Field Athletics Yokohama Tsukushino course

Adventure sports center
Fun & Games
Field Athletics Yokohama Tsukushino Course is a kids' obstacle course located in a picturesque, park-like setting. It features 4 zones with varying levels of challenge suitable for outdoor exercise. The Adventure Forest of Tom Sawyer playground and attractions like the W Freefalls, Long Tunnel Slide, and zipper-lining courses are popular among visitors. While parking is free, it tends to fill up quickly, leading to a 5-10 minute walk from overflow parking.
Aka big adventure playground great for kids. With just 800 yen entrance fee you can enjoy 50 equipments which include water-based ones. Make sure to bring change of clothes(the kids get wet, sweaty or muddy!), drink and food. Not a lot of drink and food is sold at the shop. Cotton gloves are included in the fee. Most of the equipments’ level is good for elementary schools kids and above, some 4 or 5yo can enjoy them too. There is a free parking in front of the entrance, but most of the time it gets full quite quickly after opening.
Ayaka I — Google review
It's a very nice place to go with your kids. Take time and enjoy. Things to carry: - Keep an extra pair of clothes - Lunch/bento,energy drink - Barbeque available - Recommend going on weekdays - Wear comfortable clothes.
OJAL — Google review
It was a great park, but I feel it’s more for ages 7 to adults. I feel like you need your vaccine updated if you fall into the water parts of the park.
Dana Z — Google review
Parking is free but gets full and overflow parking is a 5-10min walk. The most of the obstacle courses are not for toddlers, preschoolers, or if you have a fear of heights. There's a place to grill and plenty of picnic benches to sit and relax. Well worth the admission fee (¥3K for family of 4).
Anthony N — Google review
It's definitely fun for kids. I would recommend bringing spare clothes and shoes for the water parts. There are some tripping hazards due to the natural terrain so be cautious with smaller children
Mar鴉 — Google review
Love this place - the playground is huge with a lot of nice slides. The 50 stations with challenges are awesome for the kids and even challenging for adults :-). Prices are reasonable, parking available!
Dominik M — Google review
During my weekend visit, the park was as crowded as expected. It's a bit of a distance from the nearest train station, so if you're using public transport, be prepared for a walk. The park itself is quite spacious, covering a large area. Most of the obstacles are challenging and suitable for kids aged 7-8 and above. However, there are a few obstacles with attached slides that are designed for younger kids. It's a good idea to bring spare clothes as the ones they're wearing will likely get dirty. One notable section of the park features obstacles in a pond, which is quite popular. Overall, it's a great place for kids to burn off some energy. However, if you have a toddler who isn't as agile as others, you may be limited to just one or two obstacles.

The queue is ridiculously long on a Sat morning to noon. I think I waited for an hour where the walk could be faster and enjoyable. Sadly I can’t refund it the FreePass. If I had knew this queue, I wouldn’t have purchase the cable ticket. Oh well…

I travel a lot and been many places , many cable cars . This one is my second worst overpriced cable car after Porto in Portugal cable car. Whole little village is basically made up o car parking places with nobody there to park , with probably 50 tourists a day as whole cable car attraction is Shadowed by scam of expensive parking, difficult to get there and once you there you have to climb steep steps up for about 1km then to find out that cable car runs from nowhere to nowhere that cost ¥1120 return and only runs for 3 min. No views on going up as car surrounded by trees on both sides. Not sure bout other reviews as probably made by locals and to prove how bad there is and badly managed, place was absolutely empty . I was on cable car alone , with no tourist to bee seen anywhere as like myself who drove to the place to find out overpriced carparks and people turning around and going away. I did managed to park for free by police station and had to walk quite a bit . Even is someone decides to go there keep in mind that it is not for older people or who is unfit as getting to cable car alone takes most of your energy and whole village is ran by Micky mouse
A P — Google review
You need to get there after passing lots of stairs. It is little tiring but fun to see Japanese style shops. The signs on the stairs are encouraging and fun.

(Translated by Google) I used it just in time for the illumination season of autumn leaves. It was around 10:30 on a Sunday morning and there was a 30 minute wait. Waited 60 minutes to go down. I walked down the mountain instead of just going down, but it was a pretty steep stone staircase, so I was glad I used it for the climb. (Translated by Google) This visit will be on September 19, 2024. This is a cable car station that goes up and down Mt. Two trains are connected by a single cable, and both trains stop and depart at the same time at the intermediate station (in fact, trains in both directions stopped at Daisendera Station on both occasions). The driver's clothes looked like Aloha. It took me just over 3 minutes to get down the mountain, which I had taken a lot of effort to climb. The Ōyama-dera temple is a serene mountain retreat that boasts of stunning autumnal foliage, attracting numerous visitors annually. The structure is built entirely out of wood and has an old-world charm that captivates all who visit it. For those looking to get there, the ropeway provides a convenient mode of transportation. Located near Tokyo, this temple offers an excellent opportunity to witness the beauty of Momiji in autumn.
Beautiful experience. The temple is famous for the foliage during autumn, and its totality worth the trip. I suggest to come in the morning to enjoy the sun light.

A nice place to see "Koyou" , Autumn 🍂🍁 leaves getting colors. This year, 2024, at the middle of NOVEMBER, was a little too soon. But still a nice spot. Extremely crowded at this season, require to be in shape, it is a mountain.

Here you no need entrance tickets to go in. You can take cable car or hiking to Oyama Temple. We walk down the stairs from Oyama Afuri Shrine to reach Oyama Temple. It takes about 20 minutes. The path to walk down is not easy. You need to have strong leg and not afraid of height. We went and see the autumn leaves illumination. The autumn leaves are beautiful and is red in colour. It was crowded.
Julie H — Google review
The cable car was out of service so hiked to the top. Nice hike, well maintained with two different routes to the shrine. Very peaceful at the top during the week. Throw a clay disc through a ring hanging in the forest for luck.
Michelle T — Google review
To get to the temple, you can either take a quick cable car ride up the mountain or hike about 20 minutes. I saw a lot of people taking the hike route so that was popular. It's a hiker's paradise and great for beginners because there are lots of stairs on the hiking trail. The temple was relaxing and I loved the landscape.

We took the Oyama Cable Car to the Afuri Shrine Station, which was a quick and scenic ride. The cable car was modern and comfortable, and the staff was courteous and helpful. The view from the cable car was amazing, as we could see the Enoshima Island and the Sagami Bay below. We decided to hike down the mountain, the trail was too steep, rocky, slippery and uneven in some parts. I recommend wearing proper hiking shoes and bringing enough water. We had to be careful not to fall or twist our ankle. The Oyama Temple was a beautiful and peaceful place, with a large statue of Kannon and a row of smaller statues. The temple was also a popular spot for autumn leaves, which added to the .

The autumn leaves are so beautiful and amazing. From the website Daisenji was founded in the 7th year of Tenpyo Shoho (755) by Ryoben Sojo, who opened Todaiji in Nara. Mitsumasu Osho, a high-ranking disciple of Gyoki Bosatsu, succeeded the founder Ryoben Sojo and became Daisenji II, opening up the entire Daisen area and building temples halfway up the mountain. After that, at the invitation of Tokuichi Bodhisattva, Kobo Daishi entered the mountain as the third generation of Daisenji Temple, and many sacred places were opened. When Daishi erected his cane, a spring sprung up and became a well, and in one night he carved a Jizo deity into a rock mass with his own claws, making it a repose of the soul.

Oyama Afuri Shrine

Shinto shrine
Sights & Landmarks
Nestled on the scenic Mount Oyama, Oyama Afuri Shrine is a historic Shinto shrine renowned for its rainmaking deities. Visitors can reach the shrine by riding the new cable cars, offering breathtaking views of the Kanto plain and ocean. The shrine's young priest, 27th in a line of spiritual leaders, provides insightful guidance on the surprising history of the Oyama pilgrimage.
Oyama Afuri Shrine is a must-visit! I went yesterday, and the commute was incredibly convenient. What made the experience even more magical was the snowfall—it created such a serene and breathtaking atmosphere. The views from the shrine were absolutely stunning, and the peaceful surroundings made it a perfect place to reflect and appreciate nature. Highly recommend visiting, especially during winter!

Beautiful historical shrine dating back 2200 years! The views are spectacular and the trail the summit is so beautiful aswell! There food up here but it closes around 1700. Definitely don't hesitate this is a perfect place to visit over and over especially with family visiting!

Oyama Afuri Shrine is a breathtaking spiritual destination nestled on the slopes of Mount Oyama in Kanagawa. The journey to the shrine itself is an adventure—starting with a cable car ride that offers stunning views of the lush forest and surrounding valleys. Once you reach the shrine, the peaceful atmosphere and panoramic views of the Sagami Bay and Mount Fuji on clear days make it truly unforgettable. The shrine is rich in history and deeply connected to local culture. It’s especially famous for its association with water, as it is believed to bring blessings for rain and good harvests. The shrine grounds are beautifully maintained, with traditional architecture that blends harmoniously with the natural surroundings. If you visit during the autumn season, you’ll be treated to a spectacular display of red and orange foliage, making the experience even more magical. There are also hiking trails leading to the mountain summit for those who want to challenge themselves and enjoy more incredible vistas. Whether you’re seeking a spiritual retreat, a nature escape, or simply a unique cultural experience, Oyama Afuri Shrine is a must-visit. Don’t forget to try the local tofu dishes in the area after your visit!

A beautiful spot to visit indeed..access cost via the cable car sitting on a angle of 45 degrees..if your up for hike to the top of the mountain be prepared for some very steep scrambling on the rock stairs which meander all the way to the top. I recommend carrying a step to help you on the way..you def will feel you've done a hike the next day..
Gerard M — Google review
It is awful! It is incredible crowded. One hour waiting for the cable car. Another hour waiting for the bus. The day view and night light show is not surprising. Generally, I only recommend Oyama temple and Mount Oyama, not here!
Azreal W — Google review
What an absolutely beautiful shrine on Mount Oyama. You can hike the stairways, or save your legs and take the Cable Car (¥1270 r/t). We have been visiting Oyama-San for so many years, and this shrine is simply beautiful. There are many smaller shrines on this mountain, and those are also worthy of the visit. Make sure to walk below the tea houses, over to the waterfall shrine. Pay respects to the mountain, and her gifts. We still have so many beautiful memories and plan to make more still.
Diana R — Google review
One of the best places to visit in autumn. The vibrant colors of the leaves would really take your breath away. Going up, there are two options, hiking or riding the cable car(¥450 one way). Hiking has two options as well, Onna-zaka (easier way) or otoko-zaka (steeper way), both ways would entail walking lots of stairs! The steeper way is less crowded, hence more chances of seeing wild deers! Hiking takes about more or less than an hour depending on pace, it’s most important to take your time and enjoy! There are food stalls selling mochis, coffee, sandwiches, soft cream, noodles and even beer near the shrine. After the shrine, you can go all the way up to the summit of Mt. Oyama which takes about two hours or just get down by walking or by taking cable car. The last trip for cable car is at 5:00 on weekends and 4:30 on weekdays. Getting here earlier would give more time to enjoy and relax!

Nature & Parks
Mountains
Mount Oyama, standing at 1,252 meters tall, is a popular destination for hikers and nature enthusiasts seeking breathtaking panoramic views. The mountain has a rich history dating back over 2000 years to the founding of the original Oyama Afuri Jinja Shrine. Accessible from Isehara Station, just an hour's train ride from Shinjuku, visitors can choose to hike the trails or take the Oyama Cable Car up to the shrine.
Very nice hiking. Not the easiest one, as there are many stairs. We chose Onnazaka, and then climbed up via Miharashidai, and went down via Fujimidai. Next time I'd choose the Fujimidai path for climbing up, as it seems not so steep. For us from the Cable car station to come back (including lunch and snack breaks) it took 5+ hours.
Aurelijus Z — Google review
It is a nice hiking spot in Kanagawa which is slightly more challenging than Mt Takao but still very easy for most people. Recommend for those who want to explore hiking but don’t have the experience. There are also cable car available and bring you up all the way to Afuri Shrine if you’re just into sightseeing.
Dylan L — Google review
It took about 3 hours to hike up and down from Afuri Jinja after taking the cable car.
Ghifaroza — Google review
Beautiful place. I recommend taking the cable car, it has a nice view 😁 you can from there climb all the way to the top, but beware, its a long hard road, and if youre not in good shape, it will take even longer than 90 minutes. Just enjoy the view from the jinja 😊
Lucas W — Google review
Very nice trail, take around 5 hours up and down, many many stairs, but what a view at the end 🥳 nice temple at middle of the way up.

Gnana K — Google review
Parking around the base of Mt. Oyama is plentiful. There are several official parking lots, and many privately run lots where you can park for about 1,000 yen for the entire day. Finding a spot is rarely a problem. If you plan to reach the top, the cable car is the most practical option. Hiking from the very bottom all the way to the summit on foot would take a long time and is extremely taxing. Before you reach the cable car, you walk up a long set of steps lined with small shops on both sides. Among them is a small minced-katsu shop that I highly recommend. Their minced katsu is outstanding—easily one of the best treats on the mountain. I always stop there, either before or after the hike (sometimes both). It’s delicious, inexpensive, and an easy highlight of the trip. The mountain itself doesn’t have particularly dangerous or treacherous sections, but the combination of steepness and distance makes it a serious workout. Even if you’re generally fit, you’ll feel it the next day in your legs. Reaching the top feels like a genuine accomplishment. Compared with Mt. Takao, Mt. Oyama is noticeably tougher and more demanding on the quads and calves. The view at the summit is fine but not spectacular. The true reward is the climb itself—the physical challenge and the feeling of pushing yourself. There’s not much at the top aside from a small shelter. There are no shops, so bring enough food and water for both the ascent and descent. Overall, Mt. Oyama is one of my favorite mountains to climb. It’s challenging but still approachable for families; even my 10-year-old son can make it to the top. Just make sure to wear proper footwear and start early enough that you won’t be rushing down before sunset. The first time I went, we started too late and ended up hurrying down in the dark, which I do not recommend. There are two main routes to the summit. The standard route via the shrine or temple is shorter and gets you to the top more quickly, but it’s much steeper and requires a lot of big step-ups. The alternative route is more winding and gradual, making it less intense but noticeably longer. If you enjoy a solid leg workout, a clear challenge, and a memorable day outdoors, Mt. Oyama is well worth the trip.
Masa R — Google review
We climbed Mt. Oyama on 9th March 2024. At this point most of the upper part of the mountain is covered with snow, and sometimes it gets slippery when you encounter hard snow, be careful and be prepared. The cable car stops the operations after 5 Pm, so plan accordingly. The view from top is beautiful, and to explore more of it I hope you climb it yourself and experience the beauty 😍😍.

I love me a market & this one did not disappoint even though there were only about 30 stalls at the regular 1st of the month antique markets. It’s less overwhelming than Tokyo City Flea Market as you can enjoy a leisurely ambling pace. I walked away with a few items to take back to Sydney. The temple itself is beautiful and adds to the relaxed atmosphere of the place. Only a 10-min walk from the Machida station on the Odakyu Line. The JR Line Machida station is even closer.

I was searching for a shrine nearby where I can perform worshipping for new born baby. A person(Monk) from a buddha shrine had helped me to book an appointment here for offering prayer. You can do it on a phonecall and they speak Japanese only. Not near to station but walkable. Its a beautiful shinto shrine. Car parking is available. They also gave baby some gifts in return. If you are a foreign person then you have to wear a proper dress that can cover legs and arms if you don't have Japanese traditional dress and socks too when you are planning to perform prayer inside the shrine. I wore a suit salwar and covered my ly arms with dupatta from front to back. No need to cover head.

On the 1st day of each month, an antique market is at Machida Shrine, rain or shine! They have quite a few vendors that primarily sell antique/old things including kimono, yukata, Obi, ikkanbari, tea boxes, Edo & Meiji dishware and many other beautiful things 😻

Nice, small shrine tucked away not far from Machida station. This shrine has a cow theme, with a number of cow statues featured around the grounds. There is a small shrine shop where you can buy ema. Unfortunately there were no cow ema available when we visited but there were other designs. There’s a nice torii tunnel which makes for some good photos.

(Translated by Google) Conveniently located 2-3 minutes from the JR Machida Station terminal exit ticket gate. It is located on the 4th to 6th floors of a hotel with the long name ``Best Western Rembrandt Hotel Tokyo Machida.'' It is a magnificent library with a large inventory of 1 million books. You can view it freely, and you can also borrow it. (Even if you are not a resident of Machida City, it is OK for those living in 8 cities such as Sagamihara City and Hachioji City, but not for those living in Yamato City and Yokohama City. Even though they are neighboring cities, it is really inconvenient! I hope this will be improved. P.S.: Since June, Yamato City has finally become OK.) Borrowed books can be returned at citizen centers, etc. A desk and chair for viewing are also provided. If you have time in Machida, you can really spend a fulfilling time here. We have photo books of Ihei Kimura, Ken Domon, Henri Cartier-Bresson, etc. Every time I look at it, I'm taken aback by how detailed, flawless and beautiful the tones are. If you're tired of reading, take a coffee break at Cafe Keyaki. February 28, 2030 Lately, I have been immersing myself in the local materials section. The history of our local area is deep and fascinating. However, it is a pity that the history of Machida City pales in comparison to the history of other cities. Furthermore, while other cities place importance on history, don't you feel that Machida City is neglecting its desire to preserve its history? No matter when I visit, it's always bustling with users, and it's clear that this is a library beloved by the local community. While the study space is a little small, it's clean and well-organized, providing an environment where I can concentrate on my studies. The restrooms are also kept very clean, making it comfortable even for long periods of time. I was very surprised to discover the Japanese-style room in the back for the first time. Unlike studying in a chair, being able to study while relaxing on tatami mats is a refreshing change and likely improves my concentration. I plan to make more use of this Japanese-style room in the future. While I don't often use the book lending service, it provides an excellent study environment and is a reliable resource for supporting my exam preparation. I highly recommend this library to students looking for a similar study space. The Ghibli Museum is a delightful haven for fans of animation and art, located just a short stroll from Mitaka Station. This enchanting space pays tribute to the beloved Studio Ghibli, creators of iconic films like Totoro and Spirited Away. Visitors can immerse themselves in original artwork, enjoy exclusive animated shorts in the cozy cinema, and wander through the rooftop garden featuring the impressive Robot Soldier from Laputa Castle in the Sky.
What a lovely place to visit for Ghibli fans. There's so much history and behind the scenes of original artwork and makings of various movies. Tickets are quite challenging to come by so don't expect to just show up the day of and expect to get in as you need to book well in advance! Be respectful and do not take pictures on the inside, only outside. For those tight on time, you can do the entire museum, with short movie feature, and shopping in about 1.5 hours. Definitely worth the trip and knocked off my bucket list.

This place is magical! Every detail has been considered to make the Ghibli Museum fun for both kids and adults. Don't miss the screening for a short film that can only be watched at the museum. Photography is not allowed inside the building but outside is ok. Tickets must be purchased in advance for entry.
Dennis T — Google review
The Ghibli Museum was the highlight of my 2-week trip to Japan!! I cannot describe adequately what a fulfilling experience this was. Ticket reservations are required and getting tickets internationally is honestly based on luck when entering the queue at time of them opening. Seems like they split the population of tickets in half between international vs domestic, so if you have a friend/family who lives in Japan and have a Japanese address/phone #, you will have much better luck getting tickets due to availability. As for the museum itself, there are plenty of reviews and videos regarding the exhibitions and highlights. It made me appreciate the Studio Ghibli films even more and how much effort goes into the making of a film due to volume of frames, laying out storyboards, etc. Photos inside the exhibits are prohibited which I also think allows visitors to just be more immersed in the content and visuals that Miyazaki himself had a hand in designing. If you get a chance to go to Ghibli Museum—prioritize this among all the other places and things to do in Japan. Even my husband, who has only seen a couple films so not a full SG “enthusiast”, had a great time at this museum and thought the exhibits were fascinating :)

Loved this place! It really feels like stepping into a Ghibli movie with colorful hallways, spiral stairs, stained glass, and so many tiny details everywhere. The exhibits show how the films are made with sketches and storyboards, and there’s a monthly rotating short film you can only watch here, which makes it extra special. The gift shop has lots of exclusive items like postcards, figures, plushies, and ceramics, it’s definitely worth browsing. I also stopped by the cafe and got a chocolate cake and black tea; the cake was moist, fluffy, and not too sweet. You need to buy tickets in advance (they sell out quickly and aren’t sold at the door), and you can only take photos outside. The rooftop garden with the Castle in the Sky robot is such a lovely space.

Finally got the chance to visited the Ghibli Museum with my friend. We went there as the weather was cloudy and end up raining cat and dog. As someone who enjoys Ghibli films this is one of the bucketlist that must visit. it’s a wonderful place to explore. You can queue to enjoy the exclusive short films screen monthly, artwork, drawings, a short animation, gift shop and the atmosphere was wonderful. When you enter the museum be mindful because photos and videos are strictly prohibited. Overall, it’s a nice good experience and worth to visit especially if you are a Ghibli fan. The ticket are cheap but you have to make a reservation book a ticket a month before.

The Ghibli museum is such a magical place. The decor and exhibits were fascinating. The details of the artwork all beautiful. There is a ticket (film strip souvenir)for a short film included in the admission - the movie was so cute. There is no photography allowed indoors. You just have to appreciate it all with your eyes. We had tickets for the 4pm entry, and in November it gets a bit dark quickly for the exterior shots but it wasn't too crowded.

I enjoyed this museum very much! An indoor museum that focuses on the history and animation of Studio Ghibli. You can immerse yourself into Hayao Miyazaki’s work and explore some of the intricate details found in this museum. A lovely place to relax and get lost into the world of Ghibli! Try to visit on a weekday and first slot in the AM ^_^
The A — Google review
We visited the museum in the morning slot, and the arrival felt quite charming, even though the neighborhood we walked through beforehand was a bit less clean than expected. The museum itself is surrounded by a pleasant environment and has a cozy atmosphere. Inside, the building feels a bit dated, but the exhibitions were interesting and offered a glimpse into the world of Studio Ghibli. Some areas were mildly interactive, though I felt the museum could benefit from more engaging, hands-on elements – especially considering the theme. The space itself is smaller than I imagined and could definitely be expanded to create a richer experience. A practical note: all descriptions inside were only in Japanese, so non-Japanese speakers might miss some context, and photography or phone use is strictly prohibited. Overall, it’s clearly designed with children in mind. If you’re visiting Tokyo as a group of adults, I would not consider it a must-see, as there are many other attractions in the city that may be more rewarding. Still, it was a unique and memorable experience for any fan of Ghibli.

Inokashira Park, a 95-acre city park established in 1917, offers a serene escape with its picturesque pond, boating facilities, and scenic trails. The park is renowned for its cherry blossoms, attracting crowds to admire the majestic weeping cherry blossom tree at Rikugien Garden. It's an ideal spot for a leisurely date with attractions like swan boats, temples to explore, and opportunities for picnics.
Lovely park, an oasis of tranquility in the midst of a bustling city. We were surprised by how calm and large it is. Beautifully laid out, spotless and numerous activities. The park also contains a small zoo. The lake adds to the overall serenity. You can rent a pedalo, or a rowing boat, to admire the scenery from the water. The train station is very close to an entrance, and the park is free of charge. Afterwards cross the station to find yourself in covered shopping streets. Plenty of shops and restaurants around, including in the train station.

Such a beautiful, tranquil park with a lake in the middle. You can even hire out different boats for half an hour from a dock (row boats, Swan pedal boats) to take across the lake. I took a pedal boats with a friend. This was such a great and fun experience. There are also a few shrines around the park, and a few streets with eateries and shops to look around if you get bored. There's also a playground for little kids. The greenery is also spectacular, especially against the backdrop of the lake. I went during June but the park was still very lush. Highly recommend this spot as a nice break from the busy Tokyo city.

Wow, I was completely blown away how beautiful the park is. Clean, very well maintained, quiet and laid-back. And if you are familiar with Japanese animes and video games, you would have come across this park, and it looks exactly like how it was depicted. Inokashira Park Zoo is a family-friendly destination in Tokyo, Japan. It features interactive experiences where visitors can touch and hold small animals. The zoo is divided into two sections: one dedicated to breeding and releasing mandarin ducks into the wild, along with other indigenous animals like red-crowned cranes, Amur cats, rhesus monkeys, and Yaku deer; the other section houses various species including tropical birds.
Great zoo with so much to see and do, would recommend at least 2-3 hours to fully experience and enjoy it. They also have a cafe and small shop, and the cherry trees were starting to bloom. You also get entry to the aquatic park with the one ticket which is nice.

This zoo is great! There is a lot to see and do with the sculpture garden and history museum areas as well as a number of areas with animals. What I like about this one is it was very open and animals weren't squished into tiny pens like we have seen before (at Ueno Zoo for example). There is also a second area across the bridge to see the water birds and to walk through more of the area. It's very beautiful and nice for a relaxing day wandering around.

Beautiful little park and zoo. Like an oasis in the middle of the city. Not Tokyo. But Kichijoji. More like a town vibe. There are two parts to the zoo on either side of the road. They even have some larger mammals like an elephant. Although I haven’t seen the elephant. But most animals are badgers or squirrels. Very cute. You can enter the squirrel cage and absence them closely.

Water & Amusement Parks
United Cinemas Toshimaen is a popular cinema complex located near Toshimaen station. On Wednesdays, they offer affordable tickets for all the latest movies. The amenities are top-notch with comfortable seats and a good online booking system. They have a great selection of both foreign and domestic films, including blockbusters. Some theaters even have "loveseats" for couples. The cinema is spacious and offers various movie options, along with clean facilities and reasonably priced popcorn.
4DX is an advanced cinema technology that enhances the traditional movie-watching experience by incorporating physical effects and sensory elements that correspond to what’s happening on screen. Introduced by South Korean company CJ 4DPLEX, 4DX takes immersion to the next level by integrating the following features into movie theaters: Key Features of 4DX: 1. Motion Seats: • The seats in a 4DX theater are designed to move and tilt in synchronization with the on-screen action. These movements can replicate the feeling of flying, falling, or speeding along with the characters, providing a dynamic experience. 2. Environmental Effects: • Wind and Air Blasts: Fans and small jets of air can simulate breezes or gusts of wind, making action sequences, car chases, or open-air scenes feel more real. • Water Sprays: Fine mists or sprays of water are sometimes released during scenes involving rain, splashing, or underwater sequences, though audiences can opt to turn off the water feature if they prefer. • Fog and Smoke: Fog machines create smoke effects to correspond with explosions or misty environments, heightening the sense of immersion. • Scent: Certain scenes might be accompanied by scents that match the setting, like the smell of burning rubber during a car chase or the fragrance of flowers in a serene garden. 3. Lighting and Strobe Effects: • LED lights and strobe effects flash and change colors to mimic lightning, gunfire, or other visual elements from the movie, adding to the intensity. 4. Other Sensory Effects: • Ticklers and Vibrations: Some 4DX seats have built-in mechanisms that provide gentle vibrations or sensations, like a tickling effect on the legs, which can simulate crawling insects or enhance an action scene. • Temperature Control: Some theaters adjust the room temperature to match the environment in the movie, like making it cooler during a snowy scene or warmer during desert sequences. 4DX provides a cutting-edge cinema experience by combining motion, sound, and sensory effects, taking viewers beyond the screen. It’s perfect for those who want to elevate their movie-watching experience, especially with high-action, visually rich films. However, it may not be for everyone, particularly those who prefer a more conventional and quiet theater setting.

As a nomad that has worked in a few countries, I can vouch that this cinema is probably my favourite cinema ever, not just in Japan, but ever! Located in Toshimaen, 30 seconds walk from Toshimaen Station, the cinema is super HUGE and SPACIOUS. They offer lots of movies option, comfortable seat, clean place, good popcorn, good food, and good movie price as well. I am a regular here and I always go at least 2 times a week. Also, I am very impressed on how POLITE and NICE the staff and managers are. I am not the type to give reviews to places, but this is an exception. Currently they are selling popcorn and waffles near the escalator with very affordable price and delicious taste. Again, I am very impressed! (I recommend their caramel popcorn and chocolate waffle, taste amazing!) Don't forget to visit this cinema when you're around the area. Cheers!

This is one of my favorite movie theatres. It is less than a minute from the station. The place is clean and often has little crowds so it is a nice place to relax. There is a nice seating area aswell. It is only 2 stories as well. Compared to other tokyo movie theaters it is the most chill movie theater I've been too. There are also some good places to eat nearby while waiting for your movie to start.

Comfortable seats, good online booking system, terrible times available for new 2D movies. The amenities are largely very good. The selection of films, foreign and domestic, are generally quite good (they get all the blockbusters). It's a toos-up whether an animated film from abroad has subtitles or dubbing. Most theatres have "loveseats" for couples, but these seats are often booked out by singles. Kind of annoying, really, when you want a date night with your special movie-going someone.

I absolutely love Shakuji Park. It's located near Shakuji Koen station. Just walking distance. This was my second time visiting there, and I felt I enjoyed my day a lot. But this time also, I visited there during the cherry blossom season. It was more crowded than I expected. There was a very long line to get into the boats, so I couldn't go this time, but last time I did. Boat charges are not very expensive; as I remember, they're between 500 and 800 yen for 30 minutes. This area is the best place to go for a picnic. There is a huge playground, a kids' park, picnic areas, and a small temple. In the park, you can see various birds. What a relaxing and peaceful place. I went to the toilet, and it was also quite clean. If you want, you can go there with your own snacks, or you can buy them inside the park. This park is not too big or too small. You can ride bikes, exercise, jog, and walk there. It's really fine to go there at any time, but I highly recommend going in the spring or autumn. Shakuji Park is a fantastic place to take your children and the best place for family gatherings. If you are looking for somewhere to enjoy near Nerima , I highly recommend visiting.

It is beautiful, not too big and not too small, and just like most parks in the Tokyo area, it is equipped with everything such as walking paths, lakes/ponds that you can rent a small boat and paddle, children playground area, fishing, food/snacks bars, plenty of benches to sit and enjoy the peace and beauty, praying states and awareness spots. Very close to the Station and some shops and good restaurants around too. Will update more pictures of the amenities

Nice little park with a lake, there is a shop near by you can grab a snack or drink while staying there and enjoy the nice view. Also there is bout service so that you can enjoy nice little bout ride. As every other parks you can cycle exercise here.

Nestled in Koganei city, Western Tokyo, the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum is a sprawling open-air historical theme park showcasing a diverse collection of Japanese structures from various periods. This museum serves as a preservation site for old buildings of cultural significance that could not be maintained in their original locations due to fires and air raids since the Edo period.
Really unique experience to see so many types of homes and shops over the ages, especially if you're interested in historical architecture. It's like going back in time or going to a movie set, but one you can kinda smell. Strongly recommend you bring/wear sandals or flip flops, as most homes require you to take off your shoes. Fair and tolerable weather preferred sinces it's quite outdoor. No need to make this a part of your whirlwind three days in Tokyo, but if you are here for a while, it's worth checking out. Tickets online or in person - super affordable, no wait, never too busy. Easy to get to and from by bus from the station.

Very informative experience. My wife who is an architect loved our trip here even though it was far from where we are staying in Tokyo. I am not sure if these are replicas or relocated reconstructions because the quality is insane if it is replicas. We spent 3 hours exploring and would have probably done more if we had the time.

This was probably one of my most favorite things in Tokyo. The museum was so fascinating and there was a ton of information about each building available in English. We learned so much about the Edo period and the various types of buildings in Japan at that time. The space for the museum is also beautiful. The museum itself is a bit far away from the main Tokyo city center but well worth the subway ride and it was a really lovely break from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo.

Really lovely place to visit, would definitely recommend. We went on a tea ceremony event day, however all the same-day tickets were sold out by the time we got there, and you couldn't do advance reservation for the english speaking ones. Despite that, it was still a nice place to wander and learn about historic architecture. I walk past this museum a lot, so I'm glad I finally got to go inside! There are places in the museum serving food, which is helpful, but although they are good, I would reccomend eating beforehand, as they are very expensive...

A wonderful outside museum worth spending half a day exploring slowly. It’s not only photogenic but also a great place to learn about Japanese culture and history. Today I learned how to wrap with furoshiki here. The outdoor area is lush and peaceful, with many people sketching under the trees — such a charming cultural atmosphere.

This was a very enjoyable trip and I’d highly recommend it. It was a 400¥ for entry and you receive a map and cute ticket. The grounds and houses were really enjoyable and you could easily spend a whole day and enjoy a picnic there. I’d return!

This museum is truly amazing! I came here on a weekday, and it wasn’t too crowded. The areas are clearly labeled and easy to understand, and I could even explore inside the buildings. They also have a seasonal stamp collection for your booklet, which is super kute 🥰 Absolutely loved it!

I had wanted to see some old farm houses on our visit to Japan and this place did not disappoint. Lovely afternoon out and also some nice items in the gift store. I only had 2 hours here and I wish I had just a bit more time to see inside all the buildings. Highly recommend.

Takaosan Yakuōin Yūkiji Temple

Mentioned on

Buddhist temple
Sights & Landmarks
Takaosan Yakuōin Yukiji Temple, located on a sacred mountain in Tokyo, was established in the mid-8th century and is known for its well-preserved natural forest. The temple features tengu statues and offers a serene setting for visitors to explore. Additionally, the area surrounding the temple is designated as Meiji-no-Mori Takao National Park. Visitors can enjoy a variety of local treats from nearby shops, such as toasted dumplings with walnut miso sauce.
My photos suck compared to pro social media influencers, so don't focus too on the shoots. This is a review of both the Mountain and the temples. The mountain is about 600m high. You can easily burn at least 500 calories tracking on this 2.6km+ trail. If you don't use the non-free cable rail of course. Probably the least busiest and most quietist up here. When you reach the peak, you get to see other mountains and an overview of Tokyo city from the horizon. They even have binoculars you pay 100 yen to use but your phone might zoom in better these days. Food and drinks await half way for refreshments and laventries. And theres also an observatory up ahead too. Almost forgot about the Shinto Buddhist temples that are part of Japan's heritage now. You can trail through it to enjoy the nice healing spiritual energies as you journey to reach the top. Note they do close at 4pm though so you need to go around to reach the top. Don't stay out too late though or else it gets too dark and mosquitoes will bite you (some parts of the trail are not lit). So hike carefully as it can also be slippery at inclinations on wet days.

Recommended to do in the Autumn. Stunning red leaves add to the charm. Lots of spots to admire the Buddhist spirit and craft. Recommend going in the afternoon, it's much quieter. Enjoy both cable and chairlift rides. Only 80mins from central Tokyo. Make time to go to the Onsen at the train station.
Jean K — Google review
Had a great time, the shrines were beautiful, the climb easy (did trail 1). In the summer the cool air of the trees makes it more enjoyable. The cable car was really enjoyable, felt like I was in a Ghibli movie. It’s apparently the steepest cable car in Japan. There are 3 Goshuins to choose from (depends which counter you go to) but the red stamps are the same, only the writing changes.
Olympe — Google review
Easier to reach than anticipated because of the cable car and chairlift! Still lots of stairs but worth the hike for the views :)

A pretty cool little temple in the town at the feet of Mt Takao. Not the best I’ve seen but it’s decent and the sculptures are rather nice too.

Interesting place. Lots of walking. Stunning views.
Rina ( — Google review
Nice hike close to Tokyo about an hour from central, lots of beautiful temples and shrines and feels really good to be walking amongst nature. Family friendly, you can choose to go up and down by cable car or hike up with many different trails with varying difficulty. Going in summer can be very challenging due to the heat and humidity even on the easiest track (track 1), and is actually a bit steep. While the walk itself was nice, the view at the end was underwhelming but maybe that was because of the cloudy weather.

Beautiful colours, setting is so calm and lovely. Definitely an easy rute to climb although there are many stairs.

Mountains
Mount Takao, also known as Takaosan, is a 599-meter-tall peak located within an hour of Shinjuku station in Tokyo. It has been a pilgrimage site for over 1,200 years and offers a mix of traditional Japanese culture and natural beauty. Visitors can enjoy hiking trails, a funicular railway, and the opportunity to visit the Yakuo-in temple. The summit provides stunning views of Tokyo and Mount Fuji on clear days.
I highly recommend coming out to this mountain it offers a perfect mix of natural beauty, peaceful hiking, and cultural exploration. The views from various points are absolutely stunning, and you’ll come across several gorgeous shrines along the trails that are well worth stopping at. There's also a charming little suspension bridge that adds to the overall charm. The mountain has multiple trail options, all falling in the easy to medium range in terms of difficulty. None of them are intense, and many are shaded, making them a great choice even in the summer heat. There are also plenty of rest spots, vending machines scattered along the way, and small eating areas where you can grab a quick snack or cool drink. One of the best features is the choice between taking a cable car or a chairlift. I personally suggest doing one on the way up and the other on the way down, so you get to experience both. I especially loved the chairlift coming down—it gave a breezy, peaceful end to the hike. Just note that if you go early in the morning, the chairlifts might not be operating yet, so starting with the cable car may be your best option. Another important tip: chairlift stop running at 16:30 so plan accordingly if you're heading up later in the day. All in all, this mountain is a 10 out of 10 for me. It’s a perfect morning hike that offers incredible views, peaceful shrines, and multiple ways to tailor your experience depending on your mood and pace. A must-visit.

The perfect plan for those who like nature and enjoy walking….it’s only 1 hour outside Tokyo and a lot of things to see and eat there. We decided to take the trail 1 (the easiest) to go up and took the lift in our way down! But the cable car is also available.

Beautiful payoff for what amounts to be a 45 minute walk. Paved paths with excellent three color leaves during fall (November 2025). Some crowds but manageable. The secret to getting the coveted photo is to ensure that Mount Fuji shows clear or lightly clouded skies before hiking up here. I have some examples of potential photos below.

Absolutely take an autumnal break here from Tokyo. Simple to get to by train, less than 90 mins. Either hike or pop up Mt Takao on a funicular or chairlift. Then walk around the environment seeing all the shrines and temple. Reserve lunch with the monks and get your goishon before 4pm. Come down and spend time in the onsen at the train station. Fabulous and so doable in the day.

Sakuragi Shrine is a religious destination surrounded by woodland, featuring several shrines and cherry blossom festivities during springtime. The main shrine boasts a large Torii gate and there are smaller shrines scattered throughout the natural wooded area. Visitors can purchase Omamori and other items, as well as return their old ones. Although English is not commonly spoken, the staff are helpful even with limited Japanese language skills. It's important to research proper etiquette before visiting for the first time.

I should preface this review by saying I went in early April, when the Sakura were still in bloom (though I think just past Tokyo’s peak this year). With that out of the way, this is one of my favorite shrines. If you’re into shrines and temples, I feel like it might even be worth the trip from Tokyo, but you probably would have to be quite the shrine otaku. If you happen to be in the area, you absolutely should go. The goshuin are gorgeous and their goshuin book and pouch for the book are so pretty, among the prettiest I’ve seen. Even the parking lot is one of the prettiest parking lots I’ve ever seen.

Quite a large shrine with an impressively large Torii. There are a number of smaller shrines located in a pleasant natural wooded area outside the main shrine. The shrine sells a variety of Omamori and other items and of course you can return your old Omamori too. The staff were very helpful even with basic Japanese language skills I got on fine, English is not really spoken. If you are visiting the shrine for the first time please take the time to and look up the correct etiquette on the Internet. There is a large car park and bicycle park and the shrine has good toilet and vending machine facilities for drinks etc.

Sayama Inariyama Prefectural Park is a vast park offering a jogging circuit, barbecue area, and seasonal attractions like tulips and cherry blossoms. It resembles Tokyo's Inokashira Park with its cherry blossom views over a serene lake and even features a petting zoo. The wide sidewalks provide pleasant shaded walks, making it ideal for children to play freely in nature. Additionally, the park has food stalls selling festive treats and is adjacent to museums, cafes, and restaurants.
I went there with family during cherry blossom season 2 years ago. It’s a nice place to chill, take pictures, enjoy some outdoor activities. A spacious place. A lot of cherry trees blooming in spring.

Inariyama park was once part of Johnson military base before the land was given back to Japan. Its not as large as you would expect for a national park, but it is a nice place for a walk or picnic. It is particularly nice during cherry blossom season and they have a festival on during that time. They have a barbecue in the park and food vans during this period. Parking is free.

Smaller than I thought it Some interesting local gimmick foodstuffs. Likes to change what they sell quite a lot for seasons. They were pushing different things when I went another time. Seems to be a famous area for green tea/ Matcha!

Pausing at this service area is always a splendid notion, as it would have been a two-hour drive from Nagano, and there's still an hour remaining to reach Kanagawa. Taking a brief respite to stretch one's legs and savor their delightful ocha is quite enjoyable!

There are two playgrounds beside each other in the woods. A general playground and an athletic playground. The latter - the athletic playground - was done up late 2018. They removed all the old pieces and put in brand new pieces over a year. Its completed now. The general playground is old but functional and a big hit with kids.

Nice place for the kids, but could use a lot of refurbishment...especially the animal areas. Really run-down, weedy in some places. Admission is very reasonable, and the setting is nice. Nearest station would be Saiyama-shi, on the Seibu Shinjuku Line...from there, you should take a bus. Didn't see any place to eat, unless you bring a lunch. Parking available, if you come by car, bike, etc.

Great day trip from Tokyo with the motorbike! Motorbikes have free several parkings here and definitely is your best option for the congestion road to get in and out. The place is amazing has you can see on the videos and pictures! Lots of food vendors including Thai food, Turkish food and Chinese food. Not so pack today of people 04/09 Wednesday. Lovely place for a date with picnic. I got lucky and I saw a rainbow over the water spay in the lake. Weather was fabulous!

Nice Sakura viewing and nano hana (yellow canola) festival, you can find interesting yatai food . Very interesting. Though I cannot see the full Sakura end Mar, there are 3 cherry trees in full bloom. It’s so beautiful . If you are around this area In next few days - before 15 apr , do try to visit this park, really nice 👍
Elaine C — Google review
Thie Sakura trees on this side of gongendo tsutsumi had more trees than the east side. And they were still in very good condition. Unlike the other side trees has already 50 percent of leaves coming out. This side was only about 30 percent-ish. And some tree tops still looked like in full bloom very pretty. The festival would start on 3/26/2025 until April. Some booths were already in preparation progress. But the buds of yoshino Sakura trees seemed not really budding yet. But if the temperature kept rising they might get ready pretty soon.

Found this place by chance from an ad while I was in Tokyo in April. It turns out to be my most precious memory during my trip. It's easy to get there from Oshiage (skytree) Station. About and 1.5 (?) ride. I went on a week day and it was a few days before their cherry blossom festival ends. So not much people. Although there was not much cherry blossom left, the canola blossom field are just so beautiful! If there was sakura, you'll get that stunning pink and yellow flower combination. (Come around end or middle of march) *Check their website for flower conditions. I recommend buy some food and have a nice picnic there! But there is a local market near by. Please clean after yourself & keep the park clean. Overall, I love it and will go back when I have a chance to.

Wonderful place to visit for hanami, because it has the combination of yellow flowers, white somei yoshino flowers and blue sky. The rapeseed flowers are fragrant. All the parking spots nearby cost 1,000 yen all day long. During hanami season, there is a long queue of cars waiting to enter the parking spots.
Edelweiss47 S — Google review
There was an awesome sakura fair with tons of food stalls. Very nice ambiance. Lots to pick from. Some less good than others but overall very high quality. Some even really amazing.. the queue often a good indicator. The sakura also later bloom than tokyo...

Koga Kubo Park is a landscaped park with lakeside paths and cafes where one can enjoy the beautiful scenery of peach and cherry blossoms. The park houses various species of peach trees and provides a suitable habitat for different bird species in large ponds. There is ample free parking available, something quite unusual for hanami events, along with clean modern restrooms.
During the peach trees blooming season, the park is beautiful. A large area is dedicated to different varieties of peach trees and large ponds have been created to offer an adequate environment for the different birds. Parking is free which is quite uncommon when it comes to hanami. Clean and modern toilets are available.

羽生PA(下り)トイレ

Sights & Landmarks
Points of Interest & Landmarks
(Translated by Google) This facility tends to be crowded, so It's a blessing that even just the toilets are spread out. Best of all, it minimizes travel within the parking lot, reducing the likelihood of accidents involving people and cars. When people get off the train, their movements become disorganized, and the number of people is definitely greater than the number of vehicles. However, I believe that those who planned it had a difficult time encountering resistance, such as increased construction costs and the unpredictability of people's movements. thank you.

We did strawberry picking here. The Tochiaika were so delicious. We ate so much strawberries that we could not eat at the cafe. We bought some back and took the 11.11 am bus back to oyama station. I hope to visit the cafe again someday.

Big place with so many spots for strawberry picking. Nearby buffet restaurant was so nice and with plenty of desserts. And affordable price. Too much crowded but still they managed very well. Overall pleasant experience and must visit. Will do visit again next year.

This a great place to go strawberry picking. Be prepared to squat down several times if you’re going to do it. They also have restaurants and shops here and you can buy pretty much anything strawberry. I highly recommend this spot for the quality of the strawberries and the great experience. The strawberry jam is very good! Stop by!

If you're looking for an exhilarating outdoor experience in Japan, look no further than Forest Adventure Ohira! Nestled amidst lush greenery, this park offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in nature while tackling thrilling challenges. Unlike the often-crowded Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, here you can actually climb trees and zipline through thick bamboo forests. The adventure courses cater to all ages, making it perfect for families—kids will love the excitement, even if they feel a bit scared at times!
Went there yesterday with my 13 year old daughter. Great place. Had a lot of fun....
Michael L — Google review
We went there in January, still quite warm and very few other customers. Which is lucky since the heights and sometimes scary passages can make kids (and grownups) take it slow. The safety instructions are quite throrough and well conducted. The instructors are well trained, concerned and polite. Walking with the zipline is quite a bit of excercise but the sliding is the reward, although you have to land carefully. The parking can be a bit tricky as there are several parking lots, and the entrance can be very hard to find. And it is slighly expensive, but on the whole worth it.
Wisterian W — Google review
It was great fun for our kids! Make sure ther height is over 110 cm to participate!

We went by on an empty weekday morning. They turned us away as we did not make any reservations. Despite driving a long distance up, they did not exercise any flexibility to accommodate us even though it is completely empty.

The shrine is aesthetically beautiful and the mountain view is great. On the foot step of the mountain, you'll see a different shops sellings mochi and candies, others may find some shop selling kitsune or tengu mask. Their is also a view deck seeing the white top of Mt. Fuji; when the weather is clear and and not cloudy, you can also see some elderly folks doind some walks and they're great to talk with.

Hilltop shrine with a sacred rock. This very old shrine was established in the early Heian Period (794 to 1185) by priest Jikaku Daishi. It is the home of 42 gods and goddesses. You can drive to the top of the shrine where a free parking lot is located and a short walk to the shrine OR you can enjoy a leisurely long hike up using the stairs. The stairs are lined with hydrangeas which were not in bloom yet as of May 27th. The shrine is popular in the region with local people who come to pray for the health of their family members.
