The location is beautiful and becomes especially captivating in the evening, when it is lit up with vibrant lights. A postcard can't capture the energy here. We came for the iconic skyline but fell in love with the atmosphere. Strolling as the sun set and the city lights ignited was pure magic. The perfect blend of historic grandeur and futuristic wonder. An absolute must do.
The Bund (also known as the Waitan) is a famous waterfront and protected historical district in central Shanghai, China, known for its unique blend of historic colonial architecture and modern skyline views across the Huangpu River. The Bund features 52 buildings along a 1.5-kilometer (0.9 mile) stretch of Zhongshan Road that showcase a range of architectural styles from the 19th and early 20th centuries, including Gothic, Baroque, Neoclassical, Romanesque, and Art Deco. The historic buildings on the west bank of the Huangpu River offer a striking contrast to the modern, futuristic skyscrapers of the Lujiazui financial district on the east bank, embodying Shanghai's rapid transformation. The area is a popular destination for both tourists and locals, bustling with activity day and night. The buildings and the Pudong skyline are dramatically illuminated in the evening, providing spectacular photo opportunities. I visited The Bund a few times and it never disappoints. The riverfront promenade is wide and easy to walk, with a clear view across the Huangpu River to the glittering skyline in Pudong. The sweet spot is late afternoon into evening. You catch the sunset, the sky shifts color, then the buildings light up and reflect on the water. It makes photos look great without much effort and the breeze off the river keeps things comfortable even when the walkway gets busy.
What I like most is the contrast. On one side you have the historic facades and grand old banks, on the other you have sleek glass towers and the Oriental Pearl peeking through. It feels lively but still orderly. Street musicians show up now and then, families stroll, and there are plenty of ledges to pause and take in the view. If you want a calmer experience, go on a weekday or arrive a little earlier than the evening rush.
Practical notes. Wear comfortable shoes because you will end up walking more than planned. If it is breezy, a light jacket helps. There are a few spots with a slightly higher vantage point if you want a wider shot, and you can usually wait a minute for a clear frame even when it is crowded. Getting there is straightforward by metro, and there are lots of cafes and restaurants a short walk away if you want to sit down afterward.
Overall, The Bund is an easy recommendation for first time visitors and repeat travelers. Give it a couple of hours from late afternoon to night and you will leave with a full camera roll and the feeling that you have seen the essential Shanghai view.
Amazing skyline with the old Shanghai bund & new shanghai skyscrapers across the bund. Super crowded with tourist & photographers offering photo taking services. Place is very safe with policemen station everywhere.
A promenade along the Huangpu River with iconic views of Shanghai's skyscrapers and the Pearl Tower. Just steps away from Shanghai's bustling streets, dotted with historic European-style buildings, including the postal museum. There are plenty of vantage points to choose from, and plenty of street photographers are ready to help you snap photos.
There aren't many good places to eat here, most of the places are overhyped and overpriced with terrible taste. There is one place to eat that we tried and it is cheap, some of the menu quite good and the taste is better than some of the expensive places there. We're lucky enough because they are open until late at night.
Iconic Shanghai landmark. Stunning skyline on one side, colonial architecture on the other. Daytime is great, but nighttime views are world-class. A must-visit for every traveler.

Shanghai Museum is a massive, free museum that houses an extensive collection of Chinese art and artifacts. The museum's striking $70 million building resembles an ancient bronze cooking vessel and offers a stunning display of China's finest art. People's Square location
This is the original building, famous for its unique round-top, square-base architecture that symbolizes the ancient Chinese perception of the world. Located at 201 Renmin Avenue, Huangpu District.
Operating hours: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., closed on Mondays. Admission: Free, but you must reserve a ticket in advance.

As of April 2025, the main exhibition is "The Civilization of Ancient Egyptian" special exhibition, with many permanent exhibitions relocated to the Pudong branch ("Shanghai Museum East Campus" on Google Maps), leaving only three permanent exhibition halls at the People's Square branch.
That's why I spent most of time here on Egyptian exhibitions, the artifacts on display are very well curated with tools, sculptures, tablets, four thousand years old bread, and many historical pieces on display, visualizing the ancient civilization on many aspects.
Notes that the names of the exhibits are available in Chinese, English, Japanese, and Korean, but the full description or extended explanation is in Chinese, so make sure your translator app is ready.
I spent about an hour at the permanent exhibitions, the displays of Chinese furniture and Chinese minorities' arts and crafts were interesting, but not on the scale that I expected to see here.
The permanent exhibition is free, but I couldn't find a way to book the ticket or tell the staff that I just wanted to walk-in. I ended up booking the special exhibition for 148 CNY/person through the "上海博物馆参观预约" WeChat miniapp, just show on your phone that you booked and they will let you in the front entrance, the actual ticket validation is at the entrance of each special exhibition hall using your passport number.
Even though I did not expect to see ancient Egyptian artifacts in Shanghai, I believe the special exhibition is worth the price, but this is not the place to learn about Chinese and Shanghai history. If you happen to be in the area, the alternative ones are Shanghai Historical Museum and Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Center, both of which are in the People's Square area (disclaimer: I have yet to visit these two).

The museum is spread over 2 buildings, some distance apart. This is the one at Renmin Square.
Free to enter but you need to plan early and snatch tickets online in advance. The slots open at 12.10pm thru their WeChat account 2 wks out (recommend going in at 12nn and keep refreshing the page until it opens). All the slots were snapped up within 20 mins or so.
Level 1: A special Egyptian themed exhibit split across 3 halls - The Secrets of Saqqara, The Land of Pharoahs and The Age of Tutankhamun. On till 17 Aug 2025.
Wasn't my intent to see this, having been to Saqqara before. But this is what the locals are here for hence the tight ticket situation (cause you first need a general entry into the museum).
I paid ¥30 for an audio guide, thinking it was for the normal exhibits, only to realise it's just for the Egyptian showcase. As such, I paid another ¥148 for the ticket to the 3 exhibit halls. The audio guide only covered slightly more than half the exhibits, and with the many tour groups and crowds, it would have been more effective if the earphones are noise-cancelling.
Level 3 & 4: Free to enter. A hall on Costumes of the Minority Groups in China, another on Ming Qing Furniture and a special exhibit hall on carvings made out of Rhino horns.
The Shanghai Museum at People's Square has limited displays. During my visit, most of the rooms were closed. However, the building itself is quite impressive. I've heard that there are two or three other branches of the Shanghai Museum nearby that feature more interesting exhibits worth exploring.
If you are visiting People's Square, a half-hour visit to the museum is sufficient, and there is generally no waiting time to enter.
There's no need to buy tickets; our passports serve as admission.

I found myself lingering in the courtyards, breathing in the incense and watching locals quietly pray. Even though there were plenty of visitors, there was still a sense of calm. If you can, come early in the morning, that’s when the temple feels most peaceful.

This was a stunning temple. Was very glad to have made the trip here. The Jade Buddhas were beautiful to see and add its a working temple the monks were very active in their chanting.
A must try destination if you want to enjoy the old ancient architecture of Shanghai. It’s peaceful, quiet and beautiful in all corners. There is a free service of beverage for visitors and a souvenirs shop lying in the backyard of the temple. This temple is also famous for the Buddha gem statues which you must visit. You can book Didi or train, bike to the temple. It will be off on Monday.

The temple is huge and there are so many Buddha and god statues. And if you walk deeper down the temple, there lays the jade Buddha. They also sell vegan meal but I didn’t try since I didn’t know and already had my meal. They also sell some snacks and ice-cream.
There is also places for you to sit and relax and feel the vibe of the whole temple and calmness. I would think this is less touristy compared to the Jingan temple. A lot of people introduce me to Jingan temple but not this. I think this is underrated. What’s more this is free entrance. Highly recommend.
I like temples and this is quite a wonderful one. Unfortunately we were here on a Sunday, so it was overcrowded. Turists moved around, licals praied...a rather strange situation. However, we admired the wonderful jade Buddha statues, maybe some of the best I have seen .
Visited mid-morning on a weekend and found it quite crowded with large tour groups—likely due to the free entry. The grounds are pleasant to walk around, with plenty of informative signage that adds context to the visit. Overall a worthwhile stop, though the toilet facilities could be improved.

I’m British and I have a passing interest in urban architecture so I thought it would be interesting to visit this novel area to see how this supposed modal of a quaint British town would look.
In some ways it actually felt a little strange feeling, seeing these vague reimagining of old style British buildings and streets, but everything feeling empty and abandoned made it feel a little ghostly.
I was also hoping to see a few European style cafes and even maybe a British style pub to grab a pint, which would have added to the novelty, but sadly I couldn’t see anything that would match the theme.
It was still an interesting visit although it did take almost two hours from the centre of Shanghai taking the subway and then walking from the station.
In reality Themes Town was originally created as a residential project, not as a tourist attraction, but I think they can definitely lean more into the latter by embracing the novelty and it could become a more fun place to visit.

The town itself is a average rendition of an English town. handful of cafes and gift shops worth dropping into . Towards the lake has lovely landscape and ideal for Dates, Picnics etc.
Feel a little cheated to come all the way here and there is nothing much. It’s not really worth it unless you have a lot of time to spare in Shanghai. Or you are looking for somewhere to take wedding photo. Thames town is a residential estate so don’t expect anything to shop or even eat. Just a few eateries targeting on tourist. The place is not very big so you can finish in half an hour. A lot of couples took their wedding shots here.
I don't know where to start. At some point this was maybe a good idea but then hardly anyone moved in and those who did moved out because no commerce got started and then the weeds and wedding photography studios took over. I feel sorry for anybody like me who thought they could grab a pint in a proper local pub. I was trying the door for far too long before it dawned on me there is nobody home in Thames Town. It should be rebranded as a huge Britain-themed film lot.
Fairly interesting 'British Town' in Shanghai. Has a church, winding cobbled streets and mock tudor housing. Could be improved with 'british' cafes or even a British pub! It is a bit of a ghost town to be honest. There are quite a lot of couples taking pre-wedding photos which is nice. If taking the subway, get out at Songjiang Xincheng (Line 9) and take the bus (松江16) rather than walking the whole way, as it's quite a walk (about an hour). It's free to walk around.
Very cool place for shooting, kinda European style village. Was extremely happy to visit it. And you have to take a cab or a bus to get there, but its pretty affordable.
If you have time enough, nice to visit half a day.
Quite far from city center. There are similar towns, like Holland town but this one seemed to me the most busy and occupied.

По поводу как добраться станция метро SHESHAN, выходим и переходим на другую сторону дороги там бесплатный автобус, на аттракционы и аквапарк разные автобусы. All stars for nature. Staying in Shanghai for a long time could be oppressing. This Park could be an ideal escape from the city. You can easily use public bus with that cost only 22 RMB (have yet to count your transportation fee to the main bus station). If you are students, remember to bring student cards (even if you are from non-Chinese universities, they just check the graduation dates). The entrance tickets for students are 30 RMB (prettt affordanle for efforts to plan more trees!)
Bike renting process annoys us a lot. My friend and I are both foreigner. We only have alipay as a payment method. Eventhough the banner does show accepting alipay. Staff said they only accept Wechat pay. We could not do that as we don’t have Chinese accounts. If we want to use Alipay, we have to deposit 200 RMB for each bike, which does not apply to people who pay with Wechat Pay. Anyways, we decided to walk cause we kinda felt weird. Exploring the park by walking turns out pretty good; we will stopped by places a bit more easily.
Walking and exploring half of the park takes us around 1 hour and a half. If you bike, you can go around the park in 1 hour (that what the staff said, but probably you will not see the nitty gritty).

An exceptional experience at the Shanghai Audi International Circuit. The track is world-class, perfectly built for Formula 1, offering both thrilling racing action and an outstanding spectator experience. The organization was seamless, with clear signage, efficient entry, and easy access to various viewing areas.
tour was very nice and went to paddock, grandstands, briefing room etc. One thing missing is a track tour, like Daytona they should have trams that take you for a roundabout, but since they're resurfacing the track now maybe they will in the future. They also need to have an open merch store, and consistent schedules for tours and gokart track, which was supposed to open but never did. The AC was not on and inside it was sweltering and completely deserted with no resteraunt or anything open which is a missed opportunity. Overall it's a great and cheap way to see f1 track, but they need to capitalize on customer needs more.
Shanghai International Circuit for F1 race event.
Consider taking the metro - “Shanghai Circuit” subway station on Line 11 as traffic to the circuit is narrow (1 way in and out) and very congested during these large events.
Very well built F1 track with huge grand stand and lots of facilities. If budget is a factor the best seats are at the K stand hairpin curve. I'd give it 5 stars if those were not occupied by the F1 race in Singapore.
Amazing place to enjoy the extreme speed of F1 racing car. You will have the most lively experience with the engine smoke smell, the noise and the wind. Enjoy the race!
Got the chance to come here for a VIP race in late 2016 and it was awesome. Got to head down to track level and eat some food with the racers. Wicked time. Headed up to the stands to see the beginning of the race and then when it started raining, headed inside to get warm. Awesome event!
Excellent views of most of the circuit, that itself provides plenty of on track action. My only gripe would be some escalators to at least get up a few levels of the very high grandstand, and some better food options, and maybe some beverage outlets in the grandstand itself (on a higher level)

This museum gives you the history of automobile from invention, to adding speed elements, to modifications and manufactures.

Visited in February 22, on a Sunday. Started to get busy in the afternoon, but quiet in the morning. The museum shows great samples well preserved historical cars from different countries. It is definitely worth a visit if you like history of transportation. You also get a glimpse of what Shanghai looked 100 years ago for transport , roads and traffic.
Well curated museum and lots of information as long as you get a guide. Without a guide you're just looking at the eye candy. It's in the middle of nowhere if you are staying in downtown Shanghai so it may be a trek. If you love cars though, it's worth a visit. Although imyou may have seen all these cars before with the exception of the China specific cars.

Car museum located in the Anting Shanghai International Auto City area. Definitely a must see if you are interested in cars especially classic cars. 60 RMB for an adult ticket.
Open Tuesday-Sunday 9:30am to 4:30pm. Closed earlier in the day than expected so take note to get there earlier. I easily spent over 3 hours browsing the 3 floors of cars and information.
First floor has the history of the automobile from the wheel to the first diesel engine, auto transmission, and assembly line. Lots of cool stuff to see.
Next floor has a history of the automobile in China.
3rd floor is comprised of antique classic car collections and an extended range of miniature car models.
On the top level there is a learning and discovering area for children and adults which teaches you about how cars work and the parts of the car (engine combustion cycle, transmission, suspension, steering, etc.) All of the children's stuff is in Chinese however. Also F1 racing simulators on this level.
There is a gift shop by the entrance that sales lots of miniature car models.
Great if you can occupy yourself, not many guide options and only restroom I saw was on the top floor.
Definitely check it out for the classic cars alone.

The canal was busy with the occasional boat rides rowing past, the bridges were crowded with people taking photos, especially those who dressed up in the period dresses from the numerous shops offering this service. It was quaint & delightful to observe.

A great place to visit when in Shanghai - tourist friendly.
We booked a guide to take us before heading to the airport and they took care of everything- tickets, transport and most importantly explaining to us the many special places.
Rows of stalls offering snacks (many local cuisines) and souvenirs (including many antique shops and cat/dog cafes) on each side of the river banks.
The boat ride (Additional fee) was great to orientate on arrival.
It was a very old town but lots to see if you enjoy cultural stuff. With the clear blue skies, you will be able to capture awesome pictures with the boat and water. A cafe is there too for you to cool down but it is quite expensive. Overall it is quite an experience 😀😀😀👍👍👍
If you do not have time to visit Suzhou or Hangzhou, here is a great place to see the ancient town built along the intricate waterways. Shops are mostly the same as what you could find in a typical Chinese ancient town selling more or less the same items, so I would instead spend more time reading up the history behind the town. This is accessible from Shanghai city using Metro line 17. However, the journey could take roughly 1.5hr. So do plan your time and take into consideration the long travel time

The Zhujiajiao Ancient Water Town is an important tourist destination, about one hour drive from Shanghai city. The Town was established nearly 1700 years ago, famous for stone bridges, waterways and Ming and Qing dynasty architecture. It's also called The "Venice of Shanghai". Its very enjoyable to spend time there, walking along the waterways, taking a boat cruise or relaxing with a cup of tea.
Other places to visit is the landmark Kenzi garden established in 1912. It has a main hall, a garden, and an artificial hill. Fangsheng Bridge is another attraction, best among the 36 ancient stone bridges, It was built in 1812 and supposed to be the largest stone arch bridge in Shanghai.
The Zhujiajiao Ancient Water Town is so beautiful that one can easily spend an entire day there, but a minimum of three hours is needed to see it.

I find park and historical places more fascinating after dark so if you are into that then book a night tour from the west gate which starts around 7:30. It was slow paced and a fun experience (by fun i mean if you enjoy silence, sounds of insects after dark and warm lights)

The guide was friendly and spoke enough english to enquire deeply about the history and significance of the space.
This is right in the centre of the city. You can take line 6 to the stop named after the garden and the Suzhou Museum. Be careful — as you emerge from the metro, the first long queue is likely for the museum. You need to walk further down the alley and find the Ticket Office, where, to my surprise, they took cards, even foreign ones. This garden isn’t very big, and so it easily gets overcrowded during the weekends and especially during the summer holidays (even on weekdays).
The garden itself loses novelty if you have seen Liu Yuan (Lingering Garden), which feels less crowded and hence more relaxed. My four star review could have been 5 had the environment been more relaxed like a Suzhou garden, and had I not seen Lingering Garden. But this is still a very fine specimen.
Suzhou has many decorated gardens. The Humble administrators is one the most beautiful ones. Best visit during the week to avoid being stuck in the crowd. There are small souvenir shops inside.

This is one of my favorite places in Suzhou. The atmosphere and the surrounding are the next level! I can feel like my lunges are full of fresh air here. The inside of the building is very well organized and clean. I fall in love with this city and their culture, everything is beautiful. Important note: do not wear slipper or flipflop!!

A Must-Visit Cultural Gem in Suzhou. Visited Suzhou Museum and was genuinely impressed! The museum beautifully blends modern minimalist architecture with traditional Chinese elements. It’s not just a museum, it’s a visual and cultural experience.
The exhibits showcase Suzhou’s rich history, including intricate jade carvings, ancient calligraphy, and Ming/Qing dynasty relics. The flow of the layout makes it easy to navigate even for first-timers.
The architecture and interior design are photogenic from every angle, definitely a must-visit photo spot. The tranquil garden inside offers a peaceful escape and is very “zen”, perfect to just sit and relax.
It’s FREE to enter, but you may need to book a slot online a week before via WeChat app. I’d recommend coming early to avoid the crowd and to enjoy the calmness of the space.
The crowd control could be better during weekends, and the museum café was a bit underwhelming. Still, Suzhou Museum is totally worth a visit if you're in town, especially for those who enjoy culture, design, and photography.
You can combine your visit with nearby Humble Administrator's Garden where both are within walking distance!
I was attracted to The Suzhou Museum, because it was designed by the celebrated Chinese-American architect I.M. Pei (a native of Suzhou). The museum is more than just a repository of historical artifacts—it is a stunning work of art that seamlessly marries modernist architectural principles with the soul of classical Chinese gardens. It is an immersive experience where i find the building itself is as captivating as the collections.
What immediately strikes me is the brilliant use of the local Jiangnan vernacular: white walls, dark gray roofs, and an intimate relationship with water and rock. Pei translated these traditional elements into a contemporary language of stark white stucco and geometrical gray granite tiles. The result is pure visual poetry.
Inside, the use of natural light is masterful, creating a contemplative atmosphere that highlights the exquisite collection of paintings, calligraphy, porcelain, and jade. Though the collections are wonderful—showcasing the rich history of the Wu region—it is the architecture that truly preserves the "touch of ancient China" while feeling utterly joyful, modern and fresh.
During my visiting in mid-September it offered a quiet moment to appreciate this tranquillity, as I appreciate this piece of a true testament to the timeless elegance of Chinese aesthetics.
So hard to get tickets for this museum. You have to pre-book via their Mini Prog, opens 7 days prior at 8am. Tickets are snapped up in a few minutes! I tried for 19 Aug initially but didn't get it, made the mistake of not setting up my profile in advance so by the time I created my profile, the tickets are all gone.
Learnt my mistake and managed to secure a ticket for 24 Aug morning. The entrance is conveniently located at Metro Line 6, Exit 2. Here, you can only enter during your ticket time slot, 11am to 12nn in my case. Got an audio guide for ¥30 (one of the last few as they have limited pieces).
The main exhibit is just a small section on the 1st floor while there are other special exhibits within the building at additional cost.
This is the most scenic museum I've been to in China. Truly 园林中的博物馆, very Suzhou. The exhibits however are nothing outstanding, perhaps just the 苏绣 section, a heritage, skillful, unique embroidery style founded here. The building itself is the highlight here. This is the work of the famous architect, 贝聿铭, the same man behind the glass pyramid of the Louvre Museum in Paris.
The hexagonal windows throughout create such beautiful photos effortlessly. The outdoor garden area is where most gather and probably spent more time than in the museum itself. The route ends at the 太平天国忠王府. From the exit, one can walk to the Humble Administrator Garden and/or Ping Jiang Road.
Overall, a good 2.5 hrs spent here. Not much in terms of artefacts but still worth a visit to see the beauty of this museum.

Over 40,000 artifacts with over 250 national first-class relics should keep you busy for at least 2 hours.

A lovely place to visit with family. If walking is a problem, there is a shuttle bus that takes you to the top. But it’s really not a very difficult walk if you are able. The grounds are lovely . It is definitely worth a visit if you are in Suzhou.

Tiger Hill is one of Suzhou’s oldest historical sites, with over 2,500 years of history. Legend says that after King Helü was buried here, a white tiger appeared and guarded his tomb for three days, giving the hill its name. At the heart of the lush, peaceful complex stands the Huqiu Pagoda, a thousand-year-old tower from the Northern Song Dynasty, famously leaning about 2.3 degrees—often called the “Leaning Tower of China.” This seven-story pagoda, rising through the trees, perfectly blends ancient architecture, legends, and the timeless atmosphere that makes Suzhou so unique.
Came especially to see cherry blossoms. It does not fail! So beautiful, abeit crowded. Entrance fee rmb60. Could spend 1 to 2 hours. The leaning Pagoda was quite interesting but not allowed to enter as it's seems unsafe. One of the nicer gardens to visit in Suzhou.

A hidden gem in south Nantong.
Highly recommend visiting and climbing the stairs to the peak. Very scenic and serene views of the surrounding areas as well as the historic temples and buildings.
A lot of revegetation and environmental restoration work going on nearby which will greatly increase Langshan as a natural destination for tourists and locals alike.

Very nice place to walk around and there are plenty of food stalls and you will be spoilt for choices!
A bizarre experience. First, you were greeted with an army of “Dama”（大媽 / aunties）on a stage competing for a sponsored dance competition near the temple entrance. The music was, uh, deafening. Then you would bump into monks paying attention to their mobile phones and locals smoking inside the temple area. There was also a shopping corridor located next to the Temple, littered with run-down shops and stalls selling antiques, as well as vintage comic books and Mao badges from the 60s and 70s of the last centuries. If you were into architecture of centuries-old buildings with an authentic Zen vibe, I am not sure this is the place you are looking for. Free admission though.
