Castle of Bruchsal

Cultural landmark
Sights & Landmarks
Ornate 18th-century Baroque palace, with lavish stucco & trompe l'oeil, & famous winding staircase.
Bruchsal Palace is a former residence of the Prince-Bishops of Speyer in the Baden-Württemberg city of Bruchsal . The baroque three-winged complex was built from 1722 onwards on behalf of Damian Hugo von Schönborn according to designs by Maximilian von Welsch and Balthasar Neumann. I like the "halls" a lot of Castle of Bruchsal, upon you walked into the castle, the lobby gives an impact as a mansion should be, and when you walk up to 2nd story, the central hall not just gives you the 360 view to the surrounding environment, also it's magnificent in the way it's a residential castle.
Bill L — Google review
We can say that the place was rebuilt and took its current shape because it received a lot of damage in the Second World War. Rather than being historical, it has many places that are still actively used. In the central location of the district, one-way traffic is provided around it. We would also like you to visit the rose and tulip gardens.
Hetz N — Google review
A wonderful castle, extremely beautifully painted, has a huge collection of musical instruments, music boxes.

After a year, we visited again with our dog. A very nice place to come with your dog. The Park is big enough for all of the visitors. Come and enjoy a warm day.

One of the Castles in Germany. Nice landscaped park, entrance fee to inside the castle. But most of all I was impressed by the museum of musicalautomates. It is definitely worth seeing for everyone.

Oh wow. Totally worth the trip. Be sure to pay to get the audio tour. Amazing how much work has gone into restoring this palace. Also check out the music museum to see all the old automated musical instruments. Great, great 1/2 day adventure

The Merkur Funicular Railway is a popular attraction near Baden-Baden, Germany. It is the longest funicular railway in the country and takes visitors to the summit of Merkur Mountain, which stands at 668 meters high. At the top, there are hiking paths, a restaurant with local dishes, paragliding opportunities, and a 23-meter elevator that provides stunning views from Merkur Tower. The area also features a wildlife reserve and an adventure playground for families to enjoy.
A wonderful funicular at the edge of town. Well worth finding. €14 for a return trip for two adults was very good value compared to other funicular railways we have been on.
Neil H — Google review
A nice funicular (railway cable-car) leading to a lovely mountain top with amazing view and nice spots for a picnic. Theres ride takes a few minutes. The tower at the top offers stairs or an elevator (however even with an elevator there are a few steps to climb). There’s also a restaurant there.
Asaf F — Google review
An absolute must. We walked from central Baden Baden to the station which was initially very steep. It then levels out. (Regular buses & lots of car parking). The view and walking trails are great. The cafe is reasonably priced. Naturally we scoffed a Black forest gateau which was excellent.
Nick O — Google review
Very accessible by public transportation. The railway itself is amazing, and the view of the Black Forest from the top is stunning. An absolute recommendation!

🚠 Merkur Funicular Railway – A Scenic Ride to Breathtaking Views The Merkur Funicular Railway in Baden-Baden offers a delightful experience, combining a smooth ascent with stunning vistas. For just €7 round-trip, visitors are treated to panoramic views of Baden-Baden, the Black Forest, and on clear days, even the Vosges Mountains in France. The ride is quick and smooth, making it accessible for all ages. At the summit, the Merkur Tower provides an elevated perspective, enhancing the overall experience. Whether you’re a nature enthusiast or simply seeking a unique outing, this funicular ride is a must-do in Baden-Baden.
Keerthy N — Google review
The ride was easy, very little waiting time. The views from the top of vernicular railway were fantastic with cool breeze, sun and good clarity." I can see for miles and miles and miles and miles" came into my head! Can be fresh up there so wear appropriate clothes. Tried to cycle up to the begin point of railway but spent most of time walking with bikes so be warned!! It's steep!
Stephen A — Google review
Great way to experience the mountains of Baden-Baden. The day we went here, it was raining. So, the funicular saved our day. The ride to the top is fairly quick. Once you get to the top, the view from there is mind blowing. There's also a tower built there, which gives access to go further high up and the view keeps getting better. A must visit if you are in the area.

German Pharmacy Museum

Specialty Museums
The German Pharmacy Museum, located within Heidelberg Castle, offers a captivating journey through the history of pharmacy and medicinal practices. With over 20,000 exhibits spanning 2,000 years, visitors can explore the evolution of medicine from ancient folk remedies to modern pharmaceutical science. The museum showcases antique pharmaceutical tools, laboratory equipment, medicinal herbs, books, and historical documents. It provides a unique glimpse into the development of healthcare and is a must-visit for those interested in the history of science and medicine.
Fascinating This is a little jewel of a museum in the grounds of the Schloss Heidelberg (included in the Schloss entry fee). The displays were beautiful, and there was a lot of fascinating historical information (in both English and German) about the evolution of apothecaries and development of the pharmaceutical industry.
Suzie L — Google review
Within Heidelberg Castle is this museum, which in great detail tells the history of medicines through the ages. Many visits would be required to take it all in. The sheer number of exhibits, set out as Apothecary shops is amazing
Mick P — Google review
This is museum, that you can find in the Heidelberg castle. It has a couple big rooms, where you can find a lot of shelves with apothecary glass. It interesting. But it is a pity that you can’t buy some glass like in museum. Only one bottle there was.
Lorelin L — Google review
The museum is quite small so there's a traffic light system at the entrance in an attempt to keep it from overcrowding but, in my experience, it didn't work. Perhaps people just ignore it. I found it far too packed inside to see even a fraction of all the interesting exhibits, let alone stop to read the labels. A shame, because it's a really well curated museum and fascinating subject.
Amy T — Google review
It’s not very big, but it’s full of fascinating displays including but not limited to old jars, herbal remedies, antique tools and entire reconstructed apothecary shops. It gave me a real sense of how medicine was prepared centuries ago. I loved how detailed everything was and it made me appreciate how far science has come while still being connected to old traditions. If you are already at the castle, it’s definitely worth stepping inside. Quite informative & unique.
A. K — Google review
I found this museum very interesting as it traces the history of medicine through the ages. It's a small and well organized museum. There is verbiage that guides you though the history. It's housed inside the Heidelberg castle. The crowd management is good
Bharathi M — Google review
I think this Apothecary Museum is good place to look around because it displays old days interiors of historic apothecaries. Furthermore admission fee is included in the castle ticket so that it is better and easier, no reason not to see this. With jars, herbs, powders its antique atmosphere was good and it was also a little fun to find things or medicines that I know of. It’s good enough, but may be a better place when visiting with kids.
Francis K — Google review
No additional ticket required - it is included in the 9 Euro entry ticket. It was very interesting to see the history and evolution of medicine in the region. Would have been great if the information was in other foreign languages. You can also buy some unique products there

Heidelberg Castle, a 16th-century red sandstone fortress, stands proudly on a hillside overlooking the Altstadt and the Neckar River. Visitors can enjoy guided tours of the castle's interior and marvel at its Renaissance architecture. The castle is accessible via a steep cobbled trail or by taking the Bergbahn cogwheel train from Kornmarkt station.
We took the fernicular up and the ticket included entrance to the castle courtyard, big wine barrel and apothecary museum. If those things don't interest you and you don't mind walking a steep incline to get there, you can explore the castle grounds for free - most of the interior is not accessible to visitors, anyway. There's plenty to see outside, including beautiful views of the river and the old town.
Amy T — Google review
Dating back to the 13th century, this castle is impressive and has a unique architectural character compared with other castles. Several sections have been carefully restored, while others are intentionally kept as ruins, which adds to its atmosphere. You can visit a fascinating pharmacy laboratory museum inside, though access to the other interior areas is unfortunately restricted. The grounds include an enormous garden and provide breathtaking views of the city. Entrance fee is 11,00 € for adults. Walking through the castle and soaking up its centuries-old history was an unforgettable experience.
Evren B — Google review
Very beautiful view over the whole city including the hills, the river, and a breathtaking sunset in the horizon. The garden is sooo big and “instagrammable” with many spots for selfies and photos. The castle is not big but has a beautiful winery, restaurant, small museum, beautiful facade, but most importantly an amazing high terrace overlooking the city. The tickets include a ride on the cable tramway taking you all the way to the tip of the mountain. A beautiful ride and nice view.
Ghada N — Google review
Absolutely beautiful place! The views over Heidelberg are stunning, and the castle itself is full of history and charm. Great mix of ruins and restored areas, with lots to explore. A must-see if you’re in the area! The bergbahn is really close by too if you have tickets to go back into altstadt
Jack F — Google review
This castle truly has a mystic vibe to it! The red-brick theme, and the fact that its in ruins but still very well maintained adds to its appeal. Highly recommend visiting in fall/autumn as it looks super aesthetic with the green-yellow-red-brown leaves all around the magnificent castle! We didn't go inside but just taking a stroll around it and outside was super beautiful and makes for a good outing in Heidelberg!
Bhairavi G — Google review
Visiting Heidelberg Castle felt like stepping into a storybook. The walk up is a bit steep, but completely worth it for the stunning views over the city and the Neckar River. The castle itself has a beautiful mix of grandeur and ruin, which gives it so much character and history. I especially enjoyed wandering through the gardens and taking in the scenery. My recommendation is to take your time and just enjoy the atmosphere as well as to go before the sunset. Highly recommended!
A. K — Google review
Highly Recommend 👌👌👌 Heidelberg Castle is absolutely worth a visit! The views over the city and river are breathtaking, and the mix of old architecture and history makes it special. Don’t miss the giant wine barrel or the Pharmacy Museum. Go at sunset for amazing photos. The only problem is parking especially on the weekends, this place is crowded with visitors.
Daki S — Google review

The Old Bridge Heidelberg, constructed in 1788, is an iconic pedestrian bridge that offers stunning views of the city's landmarks. It connects the Neckar River to Neuenheim Old Town and is made of classic red sandstone. The bridge leads to the romantic ruins of an old castle that once served as a heavily fortified Gothic stronghold and later as one of Germany's most magnificent residences. Unfortunately, much of the structure was destroyed during wars in the 17th century and never rebuilt.
The old bridge of Heidelberg is one of the most rated tourist attraction and is worth the walk. The bridge is located across the river and overlooking the castle. You need to visit both in the day and in the night to experience the view of the castle. The scenery is really beautiful and picturesque. The walk to the old town surrounded by restaurants me the walk even special.

The Old Bridge in Heidelberg is simply stunning, no matter the weather. I visited on a cloudy, rainy day and it still took my breath away — the views of the Neckar River, the castle on the hill, and the Altstadt are just magical. The bridge itself has so much charm and character, with its stone arches and historic vibe. It’s a perfect spot for a quiet walk, photos, or just taking in the atmosphere of the city. A must-see if you’re in Heidelberg — it really captures the spirit of the place.

This bridge looks good and walking on the also give good view for your eyes. Not crowded. River view is really good from the this bridge. It’s paved with stone. Entrance has big towers that add on to good view. But this only on south side of the bridge. Really worth to visit this bridge. In autumn season will get nice view of castle.

Old Bridge in Heidelberg is a popular tourist spot and a great place for photos, especially near the famous monkey statue. From the bridge, you get beautiful views of the Neckar River. You can enjoy boating on the river or take a walk along the nearby garden on its banks for a relaxing experience.

Since I was a little child (and watch “Hallo Onkel Doc”) I wanted to come to Heidelberg and see this bridge and enjoy the view from there towards the castle. And it did not disappoint! Although it is covered with tourists, it spoils one with history, stunning architecture (the bridge itself as well as buildings around ) and amazing views across the Neckar.

A really beautiful place. If you aren't in shape the climb is a killer. I workout 3-5 times a week. My calves were on fire. When I got there, there were 80 year old Germans walking around like it was nothing. Hats off!

A lovely walking path up the side of a hill that overlooks Heidelberg's old town. It is steep in parts as it winds up the hill but with places to stop along v the way to admire the view, it's not difficult. The views are worth the walk.

A beautiful trail with absolutely stunning panoramic views over Heidelberg and the Neckar River – perfect for photos of the old town and castle. Parking at Parkhaus Nordbrückenkopf (P16) cost me €7.50 for 3 hours, which felt a bit pricey, but honestly it was worth every cent. There’s also a small kiosk along the way, which is convenient for a quick refreshment. Highly recommended if you want to experience Heidelberg from above.

We also enjoyed a delicious meal at the nearby restaurant — great food and very friendly service. Highly recommended for a day trip!

What a fun little hike up the hill to see the well kept ruins. We were fortunate to be the only visitors at the time to enjoy the tranquil beauty. (A school group showed up as we were leaving).

Nice views. Get there early and you will have the place to yourself unless you want to enjoy the beer garden.

This is a hard walk up to the castle with a steep incline (part of the defensive design). It offers a great view and it's interesting to have a look a round for a bit. Maybe take a picnic with you. The carparks not far away but again it a moderately hard walk to the top where you reach the outer walls, then a stairway up to the keep (if I remember my history right it a Mott and bailey stone castle design with moat but I might be wrong). I enjoyed it and spent sometime using Google translate on the limited information on the structure. Worth an hour or two, and it connects to several walks around the area. Some Disabled persons may find this too difficult, especially wheelchair users, my wife declined it, and her wheelchair said a hard no

If you wanna get a stunning view of Bühl city, then you are in the right place. You can get to the top of the ruin by climbing up the steep narrow stairs inside it. You can also take a walk along the path in the Black Forest, it'll lead you to another wonderful natural site of Bühlertal city

Museum Frieder Burda, located in the Lichtentaler Allee Park, is a modern art museum designed by architect Richard Meier. The museum's collection of about 1,000 paintings, sculptures, photographs, and works on paper focuses on Classical Modernism and contemporary art. It was established in 1998 to preserve and make accessible the personal collection of Frieder Burda.
I got to witness the Yoshitomo Nara exhibition in first person. It was a magnificent experience. I really liked the art's arrangements within the gallery and there was a lot of space to just be and take in the art. Also there was music playing, matching the artist's inspiration, and that was really great along the side. The staff was also really nice, I don't usually talk much to personnel, but here I felt very welcome. Will be back very, very soon.

Went for the Yoshitomo Nara exhibition. A very nice building and great space right in the middle of town. The shop wasn’t great though, they should definitely needs to drop all the interior decoration crap.

Great exhibition of German Impressionism with Liebermann in main focus. We enjoyed it very much, even though usually we are drawn more to abstract, surrealist and post-impressionistic pieces
Greg L — Google review
The museum is immersed in nature and it has been an amazing setting to discover the work of Nicolas Party, which is pretty much rooted in nature. The synergy with his natural landscapes and the contrast with the apocalypse and the decay of things that is a focal point of the artist has been quite magnificent. I did feel that the exhibition is rather small and restricted for the price of the ticket - although admittedly Nicolas Party created a lot of murals specifically for this museum, and I didn’t love the museum shop. I wish there were items on sale that matched the exhibition and the modern spirit of it, there were classic things on sale that you could find in any store out of this museum. I didn’t have coins with me and I couldn’t leave my jacket in the garderobe for 1 euro. I wish in the future this kind of details will be modernized. All in all a pleasant Sunday experience and I would recommend visiting if you have the chance.

The Pousette exhibition didn’t resonate with me. Feels like a market driven exhibition. The museum building’s design appears to be aging quickly and does not embody a timeless character.

Great contemporary art museum. At the time of my visit you could reserve a spot to be taken a portait by a robot arm. There were also audioguides available for 5 eur. There is not much information, and we did not take them but they could be worth it. We went with the Museumspass.

Nice looking museum in beautiful town of Baden-baden. Was nice to have visited, but the work they had on display at that moment wasn’t as cheerful and easy to appreciate as some of the more pop art like work you see on the Google review photos. Still had a nice time there.

The Baden-Baden Casino is a historic gambling establishment located in a neoclassical building adorned with ornate gilded walls, red carpet, and crystal chandeliers. Frequented by the rich and famous, it has been a source of inspiration for writers and artists throughout history. The casino offers various games such as blackjack, roulette, and slots in an elegant belle époque hall. Visitors can also enjoy dining at The Grill restaurant before trying their luck at the poker and roulette tables.
Beautiful casino. We had such a good time playing roulette. There is a dress code to enter so be sure to check the website for the rules. The dealers and other employees were quite friendly and made for an enjoyable experience. It is fully wheelchair accessible with an accessible bathroom as well.

Did the guided tour for 10€ less 1€ discount from our hotel. It really is worth doing. The casino is absolutely stunning with a fascinating history. The tour takes 40 minutes and you are allowed to take photos. A nice interlude on a cold day.

NOT GOING BACK. SERVICE NOT SO GOOD, ONLY 1-2 Tables (Roulette & something else). Didn’t see BlackJack and above all, no one there to provide any material gestures of guidance or hospitality. Actually saw the 2 tables at about 3-4PM, and was totally unimpressed. Baden-Baden yes, Casino pass it. The architecture is fantastic, and the inside quite clean. The coat-check lady was nice; but the Admissions lady was definitely not nice. I was well-dressed in a black-leather jacket, tux-white shirt and a gold-laced bow tie. The B forced me to drop €10-20 on an unnecessary jacket rental; and was a snot about it. Reminded me of my first encounters in East Germany when The Wall was coming down. They thought of everything, but the people and what they might need. Walking away, I saw the Illuminati of the Casio Bar. What could go wrong here? They had everything, but a bartender; because the 3 or 4 of them were kind of in the back corner talking. No attention whatsoever to customers. As an afterthought, a bartender appeared. WOW. For the $$$$ they were charging I worried about buying dinner. Service = 5/10. Real nice place if you want to hold your mouth open, but if you came to play Blackjack or another game—you’d have more fun by a long shot at the Tampa Seminole Hard Rock Cafe (at half the cost). Not so cool. They have a lot to learn about taking care of the client. When I turned in my Jacket, Ms. N. Admissions was supervising the coat check lady with a specious, down-the-nose look. Really Surprised as was my darling. The surrounding promenade OUTSIDE OF THE CASINO was filled with Baden-Baden interest, history, and adventure.
Adam J — Google review
The Baden-Baden casino is truly stunning: an elegant, refined place full of history, definitely worth a visit. However, what a strange idea to force men to wear a jacket in the middle of summer, with the heat unbearable and the air conditioning not really up to the task. In the end, you end up sweating more than betting… A shame that such an outdated rule slightly spoils the experience in such a prestigious venue!

Visitors can also explore a Jumbo Jet and an IMAX dome cinema. It was a fantastic visit for me and my som. There is a big variety of vehicles from historical to date including prototypes. Additionally there is a space part that can be visited to see demos of spacecrafts. Airplanes were also amazing. I think at least 3 hours is needed to see all the rooms. One can also have an experience how to work of engines. There are parts for children to enjoy.

Incredible experience! It went way beyond my expectations. I didn’t think there would be this much to see. My main reason for going was the Buran and Apollo exhibits, but I ended up really enjoying the other sections too. There are dozens of cars, motorcycles, and airplanes on display. You also get to see flown items from Apollo, Gemini, Shuttle, and ISS missions. Capsule parachutes, Shuttle parts, astronaut gear, and even a Moon rock from Apollo 15… Such an amazing collection. The Lunar Module looks almost exactly like the real thing, and the lunar suits are just as impressive. Absolutely a must-visit!

Goldener Engel | Hotel - Restaurant

Hotel
Restaurant
Cozy hotel offering classic rooms, free Wi-Fi & a restaurant serving regional cuisine.
Killer location right at historic Heppenheim market place, looking right at the old Starkenburg. Very attentive service (“Angels in action”) and delicious breakfast buffet. Rooms are renovated and well functional. We’ll be back!
Jurgen S — Google review
I was a guest in the hotel but can not recommend staying here, while the location is excellent, there is little sense of hospitality. When we arrived we asked if we could get a table for dinner. We were told they were all booked out. We did not find anything else we liked in the area, and we had our eyes on the pepper steak on the menu here so we tried our luck again at the restaurant. There was a table free outside, which said it had been reserved for 19h but at this point it was well past 20h and the table was still empty. We said we were guests at the hotel and we were promptly told we can not be seated at the table. We ended up ordering food elsewhere and sitting on the bench in the square, to eat on our lap. The entire time, the table at the Goldener Engel stayed EMPTY. Very inhospitable!!! The rooms are clean and spacious, few extras not even water. Breakfast was sparse if you could even get to it - unfortunately it's tucked into a tiny corner and there's room for one person at a time. Not an ideal stay. I expect more welcoming service from a hotel really! very unfortunate.

Traditional German Gasthof. Comfortable rooms, though the bathrooms are on the tiny side. Good food in the restaurant. The tables outside, on the central marketplace, are the BEST you can choose for a drink.

We called in our desperate need Hotel Goldener Engel, explained our situation (no Tesla Destination charger in the nearby booked Michel Hotel, while google said it was), if we please could charge a few % (we said we wanted to pay ofcourse) but the Goldener Engel Hotel said no: it was only allowed if we booked a room. While we walked around, with our two tired little children, to look for help from anybody, we saw outside that the Tesla charger at the Goldener Engel Hotel wasn't used at this moment.

Felsenmeer

Ridge
Nature & Parks
Geologic Formations
Continental-plate shift has exposed this sea of rocks that was formed around 340 million years ago.
Here is a great area for who wants to be a couple of hours out of city. You can enjoy nature, while you are entertaining your body with a small hike in a kind of green hills. I suggest you plan at least 4 hours to be there. Some hike and an hour to take a rest and gaze at its nice landscape. You can also see Frankfurt's modern buildings over there.
Azam R — Google review
Lovely place if you want to spend an active day with family and friends. The rocks are big and the entire climb can take anywhere from 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on your fitness level. But it's an amazing experience. Visit it preferably during spring. There is plenty of parking space (5 Euros per day). Make sure you carry coins. The rest of it is free. There are washrooms right at the entrance and there is a small kiosk at the top, where you can buy refreshments (they accept only cash or PayPal). You can either return the same way, or taking the longer but easier hiking path back to the parking.
Padmini S — Google review
Great hiking area for young children and elderly. If you want to skipping racing up the eroded boulders, you can also use the switchbacks to the side of the rock area.
Lars L — Google review
It's a surreal park that's fun to visit, hike, and explore. You'll find a large hill filled with broken up rock columns. The history dates back to this location being used to fabricate columns used in Roman architecture. It's not for the faint of heart as it can be a technical climb. It's a nice to visit on a warm day.
Harold P — Google review
Nice place for a day trip with kids or just the whole family in general. Make sure to wear proper shoes if you want to climb the rocks. There’s a small restaurant before you go up the mountain but you have to pay to use the restroom (even when you purchase something). You also have to pay 1€ for a parking ticket 5€ for the entire day. Other than that Felsenmeer is free. There are no restrooms once you go up. But there is one more small kiosk to buy refreshments.
Julia M — Google review
Enjoyed exploring this for what it was. A huge stone quarry used as far back as the ancient Romans. It's quite a hike if you park at the bottom and walk up to the top.
Jaren R — Google review
A really peaceful and a scenic place for a weekend get away. It’s a very good place for a small hike with family and friends. Kids would really love it and have fun climbing the rocks and going around in the woods.
Deepa S — Google review
I enjoyed the hike. We went all the way up and the weather was perfect. At the bottom it might be easier to climb. As you go up the rocks get bigger and the ridges get deeper, but yet still fun to do. Nature is amazing and can create astonishing things. You can choose the sporty way and go through the rocks or take the trail that runs along side. If u get up to the bridge your have done 2/3 of the hike. Just be careful on ur way down!!!

I visited the Landau Zoo and had an amazing experience! Despite its smaller size, the zoo is home to a wide variety of animals and has large, beautiful enclosures. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, making the visit even better. It's definitely worth the trip—5 out of 5 stars!

Nice place to bring the children. This place has a plethora of exotic wildlife to experience upclose. You can notice the staff here intensively maintaining the area and caring for the animals. I utilized Google Maps and searched this place while getting glass repair done in the area. It was well worth the visit highly recommended.
KEITH D — Google review
We visited the zoo today and found ample parking in front of the zoo. My son and I had a great time seeing the animals and only a few exhibits were empty, which may have been due to the cooler temperatures. All of the animals looked well taken care of and all of the enclosures were clean. My son loved all of the goats that he could pet. I highly recommend this zoo to anyone in the area.
Justin O — Google review
Get ready for a wild ride at this mini-zoo! It may be small, but it packs a punch when it comes to well-kept animals and healthy-looking creatures. The staff takes great care of the animals, and the zoo is spotless clean. But the real highlight of this zoo is the downtown area where you can grab a bite to eat after your visit to the zoo. It's like a safari adventure, but instead of lions and giraffes, you'll find delicious sandwiches and ice cream cones. Overall, it's a great little zoo that's perfect for a quick stop, but don't expect to spend the whole day there. With that being said, I highly recommend it!

Maginot Line Fort Schoenenbourg

Museum
Sights & Landmarks
Historic Sites
Fortification built in the 1930s as part of the Maginot Line defenses, with guided tours for groups.
Definitely a must visit. Very cool down there so bring a jacket and be prepared to walk a lot since its very big. The museum is without a guide, you have to follow the arrows 1 to 10 and it takes about 2 hours but its definitely worth it to see everything and take your time.
Vincent — Google review
Fort Schoenenbourg is the largest and best-preserved part of the Maginot Line in Alsace. You can walk through several kilometers of underground tunnels, artillery blocks, and soldier living quarters, all still in excellent condition. The fort actually saw combat during WWII, and the traces of bombardments remain visible, giving the visit a very authentic feel. With guided tours, exhibitions, and restored equipment, it offers a unique chance to understand both the engineering and the daily life inside these fortifications. A must-see destination for history lovers and curious travelers alike
Óliver J — Google review
A truly massive underground fortress, be prepared for a VERY long walk, you will be walking 1 kilometre to the last gun emplacement. Fantastic achievement by the French. So much to see and all perfectly preserved, even more tunnels not yet prepared for visiting. Easily a half day to see it all, go by guided tours or, as I did, explore it all yourself. Lots of parking.
Ewan B — Google review
For the history and time it represents it tells the story. There is some long walking but information at almost every turn. It is far from an empty shell with displays, explanations and speaking’s with realistic sounds. The feel is that the fort is ready for action at a moments notice…very well done!!
ARBBFamily — Google review
Great experience of life fighting underground in the second world War and an insight into its astonishing construction. Able to see the dormitories the kitchens and the infirmary. My husband loved the visit to the gun turret that went up and down. We liked it especially as it is self guided and all the other forts are tour only .
Debbie S — Google review
If you are interested in military history you must visit. Self guided and the fort is huge. Give yourself more than two hours and there is a lot of walking. Fascinating structure and so well designed. Just brilliant, also wear something warm and good tread on your shoes / boots.
Marki A — Google review
The Schoenenbourg Fortress, one of many sections of the Maginot Line, impresses everyone! Its size, grandeur, engineering, and organization. I use the term "fortress" wisely, as it is a huge, fortified defensive structure capable of functioning independently. We are not experts or military enthusiasts, and our visit to Schoenenbourg was intended to confirm and expand our knowledge of the Maginot Line. We fully answered these questions thanks to the fact that we were able to move freely around the fortress at our own pace. The tour trails are well-described, clearly marked to which bastion they lead. Along the way, there are numerous information boards, descriptions, historical posters, rooms, and equipment necessary for life and defense. Life-support equipment, military equipment, and transportation were important elements of the fortress. The infrastructure is incredibly impressive. I cannot help but express my respect and admiration for the people who conceived, designed, built, and served there. It's not important to us whether the building fulfilled its purpose, what matters is that it's a brilliant design. Seeing the rooms where soldiers served, the rooms where they rested and slept, and the everyday equipment, we realized how difficult service was in these conditions. After a four-hour walk, the lack of sunlight and blue sky was already taking its toll, sparking our imaginations of how difficult such service was. And if we add to this the sounds echoing across the concrete, bullets striking concrete, explosions, gunfire, ricochets, the smell of gunpowder and poison gases... it becomes an unimaginable nightmare.
Uplander G — Google review

The Worms Cathedral, known as Dom St. Peter, stands out as a remarkable example of early Gothic architecture in Germany. With its four distinctive round towers and an opulent Baroque interior, this cathedral is not only a feast for the eyes but also steeped in history, particularly linked to Martin Luther. Visitors are often captivated by the intricate details found throughout the structure and its surroundings.

Huge internal space like hangars for Zeppelins. View inside with shadows and sunbeams looks like from Angels and Desmond , da Vinci code or Diablo game. Large and Colourful window racks make it even more hypnotic. Description in German and English language. Is bit visible how was it he cathedral constructed, modified during centuries, Something looks older, something new. But look’s better than in Regensburg or Heidelberg. Parking for cars and bikes is outside, you can have probably some paid guide, old Jews cemetery near.

I was so excited to explore and just be I. The same city as this church. The architecture and history here is just stunning. Every area is very detailed and since being built around 1120 it has been maintained and kept in impeccable shape. I would suggest seeing this church. Jewish Cemetery Holy Sand

Cemetery
Sights & Landmarks
Jewish Cemetery Holy Sand, also known as Heiliger Sand, is a historic site in Worms and the oldest surviving Jewish cemetery in Europe. Dating back to 1058/59, it is often referred to as the valley of the Rabbis due to its significance as the resting place of numerous rabbis, scholars, and martyrs. Visitors can explore this beautiful yet sobering cemetery with gravestones dating back nearly 10 centuries.
Guarded by two gentlemen. They ask to show what you have in a backpack and offer head cover for men if you don't have one. All very respectfully. They protect against idiots who might vandalise the site. This peaceful place of memory is worth visiting.
Michał P — Google review
Somewhat mysterious place. Guarded and protected against morons. Think have something on your head. Oldest gravestone is on the end of this cemetery. Is from year 1100. Description is in German language so does in English. Rather without a backpack.
Ask M — Google review
At just under an area covering nearly four acres this is purportedly the oldest Jewish Cemetery in Europe and holds UNESCO World Heritage Status. In a nature setting abundant with trees and lush long grass, many graves with Hebrew epitaphed lichen encrusted headstones blend alongside more recent elaborate similarly time worn obelisks. The cemetery suffered vandal damage during the pogroms of 1615 and 1618. Although not in use since 1911 a final interment took place in 1940, ironically during the Nazi Holocaust. This is a site conducive to deep spiritual reflection in recognition of the Jewish presence in Worms since the 10th century. Whilst visiting, gentlemen are required to wear a head covering in accordance with Jewish tradition.

Hiking routes lead to the remnants of a 12th-century hilltop castle with sweeping countryside views.
I enjoy walking up to Wachtenburg. It is a fairly easy hike up the hill (maybe 20-30 minutes). Good food, friendly service, and a spectacular view of the German Wine Road. I love just sitting up on the terrace taking in the sunshine with family and friends.

One of many fine view points in the region. A steep walk to access, only small car park. Small museum. Highlight is being able to climb the tower in a caged staircase, only for those who don’t suffer from vertigo!

The 13th century castle ruin is scenically located on the edge of the Palatine Forest, with vineyards cascading down to the Rhine Plain. Food, wine and expansive views are on hand.

Easy access to the castle ruin. There are plenty of places to stop and rest during your climb. A nice pub at the top to have snacks and quench your thirst. Once you have made it there, the views are worth it!

Sights & Landmarks
The Castle of Fleckenstein is a medieval fortress located on a striking rock formation, offering guided tours and various activities. It's an ideal destination for families, with ample parking and easy access to the welcome center where you can purchase tickets, souvenirs, and enjoy refreshments. Visitors can opt for the kids challenge trail or explore the castle ruins at their own pace. The site is also kid-friendly, providing information brochures in English and German.
One of the most beautiful castles in Alsace. Partially preserved, it's one of the oldest buildings of the area, discoverable by car or by hiking. A game is proposed for kids to explore the ruins as if they were in the Middle Age period. There's a breathtaking view on the valley from the main tower worth the 100+ stairs steps. The staff is friendly and welcoming. Free parking is accessible via a shadowed forest path before reaching the castle. Many picnic tables are available close to the castle.

Nice attraction for adults and kids. Nice views and tasks for kids to do. Would recommend visiting if in the area.

Family trip on weekday! Totally worth it! So many things to discover for kids and the views are amazing. Adults €5, kids €3.

Interesting castle ruins. For the kids there is a fun adventure leading through the woods to the castle with a story and assignmenta that include a slide, climbing, bouncy nets, making music and cool figures hidden in the woods. Accessible with a dog (mention you have a large dog when buying tickets).
Rutger O — Google review
Very neat castle with great views. The walk to the castle is rather easy, but walking around the castle would be difficult if you have mobility issues. The cost to get in was only 5 euro and the food at the cafe was great. I highly recommend visiting this castle.

Excellent place to visit! Kid and family friendly—this is a place you’ll be sad you missed if you’re visiting the area. There’s ample parking for whatever sized vehicle you’ve got. My minivan had no problems. From there, it’s a short hike to the welcome center—tickets, souvenirs, sitting area, and cafe. Fair priced and quick service! Then, you either go on the kid’s challenge trail OR head directly to the ruins. Visiting the ruins is included in the cost of the kids challenge trail. For my family of 5 (with a 4, 6, and 8 year old), we did the kids challenge trail. It engages the kids as the parents get to soak in the views, and it teaches everyone the history of the area. This ends up taking you on a nature hike thru the woods, and up to the actual ruins. The ruins are amazing—you can feel the history, and are granted some spectacular views. My kids loved it, and my wife and I noted how easy it was to get there, spend a day, and never think twice about much. It’s about an hour and a half from the Kaiserslautern area. The staff speaks German, French, and a fair bit of English. 100% recommend this place!

Very nice visitors center and cafeteria... Very cool ruined Schloss with an interesting history. Had a neat set up for the kids, an interactive tour from one section of the ruins to the next. Ruins are part of a large Forrest preserve with hiking trails that lead to several other castles. 👌

What a place. Came here on a Wednesday afternoon with one other adult and my three kids ages 5,3, and 1.5 years. I wore the baby and the other two walked (with some shoulder riding from parking lot for the 3yo). We entered the parking lot at the first entrance, not realizing (or stopping to read the sign) that you can drive all the way to the end of it and be a few minutes walk closer to the trail entrance. Once at the end of the parking lot, or after the sharp turn in the road after the beginning of the lot, you’ll see a trail in the woods that runs parallel to the road (which is at this point restricted to buses or staff only). The trail took us about 10 minutes and has some cool stuff about mining to see along the way. It might have been stroller accessible for an offroading stroller, but we didn’t bring one as there is no way to use it in the castle. Once you get to the information center, you’re in a small little courtyard of sorts, with the ticket and gift shop on the left, a restaurant at the far end, a kids feature on the right (an additional fee that we didn’t purchase), and bathrooms at the entrance on the right. We purchased tickets for us adults as the kids were free (€10 total I believe) and set off to the castle, which took another 5-10 minutes of walking. Once you’re at the castle, there are tons of staircases, both paved and uneven stony ones, in and out of the castle, to explore. It feels like you could get lost in such a good way, with secret staircases and little rooms hidden off the side of halls and stairs. There are fun stories for the kids to follow about someone named Hugo discovering the ruins, and they do a great job with sighs explaining what areas were used for and images showing how it might have been used. The best part of the castle, though, is the top, where it feels like you’re in a castle in the sky. Mind blowing to thing of how they made this castle so long ago, so high on this rock formation. The views are spectacular, even if all you see is forest and other rock formations. There are apparently a few other castles in the area, presumably on a hiking route, but we didn’t have enough time or energy to continue explaining. After the castle, we had ice cream at the cafe and bought toys for the kids at the store (I was pleasantly surprised at the prices). Most of the food was pre prepared quiches and wurst and whatnot which we didn’t want. Overall, this was an amazing afternoon trip that took about 2-3 hours total, for us with about 20 minutes of walking in shade on a forest path with tons of stair climbing once in the castle, for a very reasonable price for adults.

Mainz Cathedral

Catholic cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
Nestled in the heart of Mainz, the Mainz Cathedral, also known as St. Martin and St. Stephen, is a stunning example of Romanesque architecture that has captivated visitors for centuries. With its impressive six towers reaching towards the sky, this architectural marvel was constructed starting in AD 975 under Archbishop Willigis and draws inspiration from Rome's iconic St. Peter's Basilica.
Mainz Cathedral is truly a masterpiece of Romanesque architecture and a place where you instantly feel the weight of history—and the serenity of the present. From the moment you approach its striking red sandstone façade and soaring towers, the cathedral commands attention. Yet, once inside, what stands out most is the calm and quiet atmosphere. The interior, with its high vaulted ceilings, delicate stained-glass windows, and softly lit chapels, invites reflection and stillness. Each corner offers something unique: from colorful modern stained-glass windows to beautifully preserved medieval sculptures and ornate altars. The cathedral is not only a feast for the eyes but also a deeply spiritual space, whether you’re religious or not. Sitting in the long nave, surrounded by centuries-old stone and gentle candlelight, brings a sense of grounding and peace. A small exhibit area shares more about the cathedral’s long and storied past, and there are plenty of nooks to explore if you enjoy architecture, art, or quiet contemplation. Right in the heart of Mainz, this is a must-visit spot that feels worlds away from the busy streets just outside.

A stunning landmark right at the heart of Mainz! The cathedral is massive and full of history, with its beautiful Romanesque architecture and peaceful atmosphere. Walking inside feels like stepping back in time, with impressive stonework, chapels, and artworks to admire. The surrounding Domplatz adds to the charm, with plenty of cafés and shops around. Definitely a must-visit if you’re in Mainz!
Midhun M — Google review
Impressive structure! Lots of history in the area yet, unlike other similar cathedral areas in other towns, this one feels lively amd young.. Definitely a different and welcome vibe!
Brian B — Google review
The Mainz Cathedral is absolutely mesmerizing! The moment you step inside, you’re transported to another time. The massive pillars, soaring ceilings, and the way light filters through the stained glass—it’s like walking into a movie scene. Every corner tells a story. Peaceful yet majestic, this place leaves you in awe. If you visit Mainz and miss this cathedral, you’re truly missing out! ⛪✨
Muhacir — Google review
Beautiful cathedral. Lovely garden area as you come in. I was in a bit of a hurry so I was not able to figure out how to climb the tower but I hope I can come back sometime and try. Crypt was neat to see. Fun murals of gospel scenes above the clerestory level along the nave. Some interesting sid chapels to include one of the more vibrant colored crucifixion paintings I've seen in a cathedral.
Knud H — Google review
I really like the cathedral — it’s even more beautiful than the one in Speyer. I adore the red stones and the many towers. It’s so happily situated within the rest of the city. I felt very happy in these surroundings.
Iva * — Google review
Much larger than I thought. They have a “biggest bible” page there which isn’t that aesthetic but the rest of the cathedral is impressive. Definitely worth a stop.
Ben P — Google review
The cathedral is beautiful. I came here on a Thursday afternoon and there was no wait at all and there was minimal people inside. Be careful if there is a service happening and be respectful of the space if so. There is a museum but I didn't go inside there. The architecture in the cathedral is worth the visit to come see. Be aware that as of may 2025 there is major construction happening on the outside of the cathedral so it is covered in scaffolding. Its free to enter the church but donations are welcome. Be prepared to translate most of the signage if you do not speak German. There is a wheelchair ramp going into the main section of the cathedral and the main cathedral floor is flat but all of the side rooms and passageways have steps and are not handicap accessible.

St. Stephan's Church, also known as the Catholic Parish Church of St. Stephan, is a significant religious site in Mainz with a rich history dating back to 990 AD. The church features stunning stained glass windows created by Marc Chagall and a late-Gothic cloister that adds to its allure. Despite suffering severe damage from an explosion and air raids during World War II, the church has been meticulously restored to its former glory.
A great experience. Wonderfull windows by Chagall. An ocean in blue. Lovely organ. The light in this church is something very special. A must in Mainz.

Church with amazing windows made by Schagal. A must-see in Mainz. Also the cloister next to the church is quite nice.
Jerzy J — Google review
Hidden gem of Mainz! I have been outside in the church cloistered courtyard, which is relatively small but very beautiful and picturesque, many times, however this was my first time inside the church and I was really impressed. I had no idea there was such a beautiful church in Mainz! This place is known for its unique stained-glass windows in luminous blue that were created by Marc Chagall. The light coming through the windows was absolutely stunning and created an almost unreal ambience, I felt like being under water. I have never seen such beautiful lighting in any church I have visited (visited mid-day with clear skies, so nothing was blocking the sun beams to enter the church). I also enjoyed the beautiful modern Organs near the chancel with the altar. There is a little gift shop inside, where you can buy souvenirs like postcards, books and magnets mainly with the blue window theme. Church is wheel-chair accessible and there is no entrance fee. Totally recommend to visit this church as pictures don't really do justice, you must see it with your own eyes to have the full experience. Visited in May 2022.

Nestled in the charming old quarter of Mainz, the Gutenberg Museum stands as a testament to the revolutionary impact of Johannes Gutenberg, the pioneer behind movable type printing. Established in 1900 to commemorate his 500th birthday, this museum is one of the oldest dedicated to printing and attracts visitors from around the globe.
Small museum run by strict time and appointments. We were on a local guide tour, so he did the actual printing demonstration and gave us background and insights. I'm not sure how a walk-in would have been treated. Very interesting museum and a great addition to my knowledge of Gutenberg. Give it a try.
Alan — Google review
Beautifully curated museum with several original printed books, specially 3 bibles. A very good printed demonstration, from the making of the letters to the final printed page, both in English and German with a replica of the printing machine. Negative: A very unhelpful large and seated guardian next to the interactive picture box, most interested in moving people along than in helping with the experience.
Claudia B — Google review
You are given a card that lets you activate some of the exhibits, and at the end you can print your photo in the style of block printing onto the card. There is a demonstration of printing and the presenter gave interesting facts and was very knowledgeable.
Holly M — Google review
Awesome experience of the Gutenberg museum and in excellent opportunity to see one of the Gutenberg Bibles. Actually four of them. It's absolutely amazing that these were the first books printed by the Gutenberg press. A worthwhile experience to visit this historic place. Highly recommend visiting the Gutenberg museum and seeing the original Gutenberg Bible. They are absolutely priceless books as every single one of the 47 of them are different because they were sold as separate pages and made into books by the buyers after they purchase them which we understand is the price of a home to purchase the pages back when they were newly off the press
Ed R — Google review
It's a small museum but very well done. When I visited in Nov 2025 they had the word "Moved" in the name to emphasize that it's final location is under renovation and it is just temporarily adjacent to the natural history museum. Indeed I almost wandered into the natural history museum trying to find it. The first room had a 3D table of Mainz and narrated a story of his life (both in English and German). Indeed in spite of what some past reviews said, the museum seems to have stepped up their game and most descriptions were in both German and English. The main attraction, the two original Bibles we're well displayed and surprisingly uncrowded. I was able to go back two and study them.
Knud H — Google review
1.5 hours was NOT enough. Didn't get to the demonstrations upstairs. (I visited the "Moved!" version in June 2025.) Anyone in graphic design, journalism or communications will appreciate the overarching themes and attention to detail. The Bibles themselves, and the additional works displayed alongside them, were presented very well and in an interesting manner.
E. L — Google review
The Gutenberg Museum is a fascinating and well-worthwhile visit. While I was a bit confused by the natural history aspect, I soon discovered that the main exhibition is temporarily located inside the Natural History Museum—a detail that, once understood, didn't detract from the experience at all. My primary interest was learning more about Johannes Gutenberg, and the museum did an excellent job of that. The exhibits are fantastic, especially the chance to see some of the first printed bibles up close. I also appreciated the use of modern technology to make the history more relatable, particularly the fun machine that lets you create a selfie with a printed page. My only regret is that I didn't get to see a demonstration of the printing press in action. Overall, it's a great experience and excellent value for money.
Tim B — Google review
Valuable experience! The museum is really interesting: it’s a collection of ancient manuscripts, the first original examples of a few books (including the famous Bible 42), interactive news / videos and a display of objects related to the printing machine. You can even see how the printing process was developed in a practical “workshop”. Only one suggestion: if possible add English subtitles to the short films and try to make the demonstration of the printing press also in English (at least once).

Nerobergbahn Wiesbaden is a historic water-powered funicular railway that has been operating since 1888. It stands as the oldest water-propelled railway in Germany and one of the few in the world still using this unique propulsion system. The charming cable car offers a picturesque journey to the hilltop, providing spectacular views overlooking Wiesbaden. Visitors can enjoy a ride on two distinctively colored carriages and explore attractions such as St.
I loved the experience, the outdoors scenery, and how calm and peaceful this place was. We took the little “train” shuttle there and it wasn’t a bad deal, saves you a lot of uphill walking. Make sure to bring a map or use the All Trails app because you might get lost in the trails especially if you don’t speak German and go solo. We used the premium version of all trails and we were able to go around the whole trail even without service.

The list was good, in the fact that it got you up to a view point with amazing views. But don't bother going to the fort. The exhibits are all in german, you can get a downloaded audio guide to your phone bug you need to remember you ear phones if you want to use inside. Outside you can use it around the fort but it is short. I also struggled to understand why a historical building included a casino, numerous pubs and a youth hostel, was just the most bizarre historical monument site I have been too.

Have visited Koblenz several times but first time to experience the cable car. Had limited time, sadly insufficient to take the castle tour but great views of the city and the confluece of its two impressive rivers. With atypical Germanic efficiency, access & egress to/from the cable car stations is easy & safe for all ages & abilities. Good value for money, would hope to return one day & to do it justice!

This was great fun! Glide over the vineyards in a 2 person gondola. You get nice views of the town, vineyard, and the river. Very relaxing. When at the top of the mountain, there is a huge memorial statue, and sweeping views of the area. There is also a small café where you can get a snack or very light lunch and enjoy the outdoors. We did see people walking down, through the vineyards. If you have time, it looked like fun.

What a fab few hours. Obviously if your afraid of heights you might want to go, but it's very safe and worth going. The monument at the top is massive and breath taking. Worth the trip on its own. You can bike or walk up there, but I personally wouldn't recommend it. It's over 200meter up there.

Siegfried's Mechanical Museum, located in a 15th-century manor house in Bromsherof, is a captivating showcase of around 350 self-playing, mechanical music instruments that span three centuries. Visitors can enjoy guided tours where the guides operate the instruments, allowing guests to see and hear them in action. The museum features elaborate carousel organs and self-playing violins that are sure to delight antique lovers and music enthusiasts alike.
This was just an amazing step back in time. The musical instruments were in perfect working order and a delight to listen to. The guided tour was lead by an amazing young lady, who was so passionate about the museum. It only cost 11 euros to enter, well worth every penny.

A private museum with great and unique collection of mechanical musical Instruments. A what is great that is not just exhibition, you receive a 45 minute guided tour, where you you get to know and to hear different instruments. Guides know at least 4 different languages, what is very rare also. The museum was worth every cent I paid. Just be ready that tours start every hour, so you might need to wait a bit.

Best museum I have been to in a long time. I wanted to see all of them play but understandably from a time perspective that just isnt possible. It truly is sad that we have lost so much of that beautiful craftmanship. The building itself is beautiful. The tour guides were very friendly. All in all I would honestly love to return if I am ever in the area again.

A friend of mine recommended Siegfried's Mechanical Music Cabinet Museum, even though they visited almost 20 years ago. I'm so glad I took their advice! The tour guide was absolutely superb—not only were they genuinely funny, expertly switching between German and English, but they were also incredibly knowledgeable and even good on the piano! Their passion for the collection really made the experience. It's a very niche experience, but I'm still scratching my head wondering how all those instruments play themselves with such precision. For the price, it's great value for money and well worth the experience. I highly recommend it!

What a brfilliant museum. We hjad a tour to ourselves and the museum staff allowed us to store our cases in a locked room. We had a good tour around of a number of different rooms containg lots of instruments and ouir guide gave us information about certain machines and demonstrated them. All of them were interesting and fascinating. It was so good to see so many working machines, some huge, some tiny and all producing wonerful music. There are also some very old wall and ceiling paintings in some of the rooms. Even though the tour is only 45 minutes it was good value for money

Perched atop a hill, the Niederwald Monument commemorates the unification of Germany following the Franco-Prussian War. Accessible by foot or cable car, it offers stunning views of the Rhine River and valley below. The monument features an imposing figure of Germania, symbolizing unity and strength. Visitors can take a cable car ride through picturesque vineyards or hike through beech forests to reach this historical site.
I recommend the ring tour but check the times for when the boat runs - they didn't advertise how early the boat stops running even though the tour is officially open until 7 that would never work to complete the tour. I had to take the train back to Rudesheim. The views were stunning, the ice cream and coffee delicious at the top, and the music was fun. The monument is gorgeous.

As we take a moment to reflect, it is essential to honor the brave men and women who fought valiantly for the freedoms we cherish today. Their sacrifices have paved the way for us to enjoy fundamental rights such as freedom of speech and freedom of religion. This remembrance not only deepens our appreciation for our liberties but also inspires us to uphold the values they fought for, ensuring that future generations can experience the same privileges. The Rhine River, with its stunning vistas, offers a picturesque backdrop, especially during the summer months. The lush vineyards that line its banks create a vibrant tapestry of green, while charming towns dot the landscape, each with its unique character. As you gaze upon the river, you can see various cargo ships navigating its waters, transporting goods and adding to the lively atmosphere. The scene is further enhanced by the presence of majestic castles perched on hilltops, standing as timeless guardians of history. Additionally, the region boasts a diverse array of parks, providing serene spaces for relaxation and exploration, making the Rhine a truly enchanting destination.

Wonderful cable car ride from Rudesheim, views of vineyards and surrounding countryside, very peaceful but a bit chilly in the wind. A short walk to the monument, bit of a hill, but worth it. Amazing views of the Rhine and all around, the monument is massive, really impressive and the history (to read on placards) is very interesting. Nice little outdoor takeaway for drinks and snacks, note.. you pay a deposit for proper cups. Restaurant as well but didn't use it. A place well worth seeing!!

We had a good tour up here, we got the ring tickets which included cable car through the vineyard , chairlift and boat back. The view at the monument is beautiful totally worth it and the hike through the forest to the chairlift is good too.

Impressive monument, fun to ride the gondola up there. There is a little restaurant up there. Impressive views! It's worth going up to see. If the weather is good, it is a nice day. We had poor weather so we didn't stay long. You can ride the gondola down (keep your ticket) or walk down through the vineyards.

Lovely views up here, was on a Rhine tour up through here on the way back to Frankfurt. Amazing views on a blue sky day. One of the best views to end a day

We visited on a weekend in summer holidays. Took Cable Car to top of the hill. Waiting was around 45 mins. There is also a hiking path. You can either buy cable cat tickets one way or for round trip. Hike trial takes around 90 mins One can also directly visit the spot by car. To enjoy the view cable car is more recommended.

This is a wonderful place to spend time away from the screens and connect with nature. Lots of things to see on the trail, appropriate obstacle courses for all ages, and best of all, fun. Some parts can get hot though, if you have sensitive feet. You can purchase tickets at the entrance booth or pre-purchase online and scan your QR code at the machine by the entrance. They sell food at the end of the trail/by the entrance and have adequate seating to sit and eat, which was nice. Overall, for the price, wonderful experience.

An absolutely brilliant experience for the whole family. We loved every minute of the 3.5 km trail. The variety is incredible – from soft grass to challenging stones, and of course, the famous clay pit which was so much fun! The final river crossing is a great, refreshing finish. Highly recommended for a unique day out.

A really fun experience! The park is really well kept and there is such a great variation of things to do. You go through mud, cold water and can even Wade through the river. You walk over lots of surfaces like rocks, sand and corks. And there are lots of playground - style activities. The whole family would have lots of fun here - it only costs €4 per person. My favorite part was definitely the boat across the river that your partner has to control from the shore.

This is a very nice riverside walking path that is mixture of foot sensation, obstacle course, nature education, and playground. Easily the most well designed, well maintained barefoot pad I've seen (And it's 30+ years old!) I used Google maps to direct us to this exact pin, and found clear signs for parking (large, free, paved, partially shaded lot) and then while walking, signs and Google led us through a small tunnel to the kasse, where I purchased tickets for myself and children (5 euro for adults, 3 for kids 4+ years, free for younger than 4); there was no line on this week day September 2022 afternoon. Before we entered the park, we had a snack in front of the park entrance at one of the several picnic benches, where there are also clean indoor bathrooms and bicycle parking stations. Once you enter the grounds, there is a foot washing station, lockers to rent for a 1 euro coin (which I did, and left our shoes, our snacks since I didn't know there would be picnic benches along the route), and free open cubbies if all you need to leave are your shoes. I wore the two year old, while the other two walked. You enter the path by diving in to the mud path, which is by far the best mud pack I've seen, about 1 foot deep of pure mud and muddy water, with globs of mud sifting between your toes - it was wonderful. The rest of the path is less messy, mostly different walking textures and some water features, and lots of balance beams and obstacles. The nicest surprise was the opportunity to wade through the Nahe river, which I was unfortunately unable to do as I my kids were too small. It appeared to get quite deep (knee to waist high, I'd guess), but there are two cables running across for you to hold onto to keep your balance; if you don't feel like wading across the river, there is a wooden bridge just ahead that will bring you across to rest of the path. If I remember correctly you don't miss anything by taking the shortcut provided by wading across the river (rather than the bridge) except perhaps one informational sign that was just slightly different from the rest on the path, I've posted it it in this review. The playground stations are near the end of the path, which is good because that is when my 4yo had just begun complaining. The path is indeed 3.5 km but thankfully quite flat, but VERY sunny with very few shady opportunities. It is basically a big loop, but since both directions hug the river, it feels like an out-and-back, just 50 meters apart There are many benches and picking tables throughout the course. There is a food kiosk at the end, with tables to sit, relax, and enjoy wine, beer, ice cream, or pretzels after your journey 😊. They do take cards, though it didn't work today. The path was not very crowded at all on this particular day; we never had to wait for anyone else getting stuck behind them. Bring water with or without food and hats/sunscreen if sunny, and wear clothes that you can get wet up to your knees/waist in (or a change of clothes!).

This was a fun day out however we went on a very hot day and the ground was burning our feet and some of the items were too hot to stand on. Not enough water stops to cool feet, definitely don't recommend on hot days or if your feet are sensitive as some of the water crossings were rough and hurt plus paths stoney.

A different experience for sure. Not quite what I thought I was getting myself into, but we enjoyed our afternoon. The mud pit at the beginning has quite the off putting smell, so be prepared for that. Pretty views along the walk, & we got lucky because there was a band playing today that we got to enjoy along with our beer & bretzels.

I have never experienced a barefoot park, so I was beyond excited to try it. I love how it jumps right into the clay path, as soon as you begin. The obstacles were fun and my kids were loving it. That is until my son had a piece of mulch cut his foot at the playground and I stepped on a twig that had an endless amounts of thorns on it. We continued on the path to get back to the front desk, where they had no first aid kit or bandages. I wish the mulch was substituted with something else, maybe sand for an example. The twig incident is beyond their control, clearly just bad luck on my behalf. You can walk on the grass, instead of the mulch which is what we did for a lot of the path. At the end of the course, they have snack and drink bars, and a fountain to wash up before you leave. This was like a one and done experience for my family and I. Cool experience but never again bare foot. Maybe with water shoes it would have been amazing!

"Barfuß" means "Bare foot", so as the name suggests, this is a bare foot experience where one has to walk without shoes or slippers on a walk path of around 3 km. This walk path had different parts like a part where one has to wade through around 30cm deep mud puddle, there were parts with pebble, sand and wooden Chips to walk upon. It also had different obstacles to cross like zig-zag plank, hanging logs, small wooden pillars, etc. The best part for me to wade through a knee deep river stream (off course there was two parallel ropes to hold by both hands and walk). Flat paths were covered with grass as well as stones and bricks. It was all together a different experience and exposure of feet to different surface in a short walk. For some, it could be boring, for some painful, but for some unique and exciting. I liked some parts like mud (although it was bit stinky and pebbles down felt like piercing my sole), sand pit, fresh water stream and some obstacles, but didn't like pebbles and wooden Chips parts because they were hurting more than having fun. There is a Bier Garden at the starting point of the walking path (which also is the end of it) where you can find very limited items (mainly snacks and drinks) in the menu list. There is a wonderful Public pool cum Aqua Park (Frei- und Erlebnisbad "Am Rosenberg") very near to it. One can plan the visit their combined with Barfuß to enjoy the whole day.
