A sanctuary on the top of the mountain. That's the Italian way of building churches. Created around 1200's-1500's this is the most beautiful place to pray and contemplate the beauty of the nature, fresh air, and a magnificent landscape view of cities such us Mercogliano, summomte and Avellino. That's not all, from here, you can see the naples beach and island and the volcano. Moreover, the sanctuary is full of history and beautiful images.

Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
Villa Rufolo is a 13th-century villa with Moorish influences, renowned for its stunning cascading gardens and terraces that offer breathtaking views of the sea. Over the years, it has become a significant tourist attraction, especially after hosting the first editions of Wagner's Concerts in its gardens. The Villa's international reputation grew further when it was acquired by the Provincial Tourist Board of Salerno and opened to the public.
This town has become know as the city of music. My wife and I went to Villa Rufolo and it was so beautiful. The flowers looked like something that came out of a movie. The exhibits were all nice and historical. If you are ever in Ravello you must check out Villa Rufolo.
Steven G — Google review
One of the most beauiful places ive been to. Up above the Amalfi Coast with outstanding views this small town has it all. The gardens are spectacular and we were lucky enough to have room to move having visited off season in March. The skies cleared and the only word for it is Wow. In my opinion it leaves the coast for dead, a lot quieter and a lot to see and do. Cafes are great and our hotel Lolanda was amazing. I cant stress how important it is to take a little time and go off the beaten track up to this place. Visit all the gardens at the top and you wont be disappointed.
Lisa B — Google review
Must visit, but try earlier than in the evening, as the sun goes away from 4 pm in October. Sunsets are amazing though. And in October there are not so many flowers and colors like in summer pictures, but still nice. The house is unfortunately empty, and there’s not much to do.
Arsenii K — Google review
It very beautiful up here. we visited this place in Sept 2023 during our Amalfi coast tour. It is a trek to get to but when you get here you will be greeted with spectacular views! I can get busy at peak times but it is beautiful. The gelato from the small cafe is absolutely worth the walk. Definitely recommended.
Coffee W — Google review
Extremly beautiful villa, gardens and view. The ticket was 8 euros, no line, we got to experience the place all by ourselves, maybe because it is off season (november 2025, monday). We got to see the garden with winter flowers, but still extremly beautiful.
Timeea S — Google review
Villa Rufolo was such a hidden gem here in Ravello. Really enjoyed the small room showing the videos and giving some history of the place which helped color a beautiful picture of music, history, and brilliant views. I highly recommend making a stop here if you are visiting Ravello. My best advice, take a scooter to the top of this hill instead of this bulky busses, you’ll be happy you did!

Villa Rufolo is a must - see hot spots destination for anyone visiting the Amalfi Coast. A real hidden gem on the Amalfi Coast and one of my favorite place to see it. This is nature’s artwork on display . A very impressive, stunning place with a unique color of the spirits, worth all the raves about it. Worth spending a day here soaking in the ambience, surrounded by incredible scenery, pure natural peaceful, beautiful masterpieces of gardens and magnificent spectacular breathtaking views from every corner. It’s a truly enchanting and experience visiting this beautiful place There is beauty around every bend. Serenity in every view!!! Simply breathtaking!!!

Villa Cimbrone is an elegant hilltop lodging located in a medieval manor offering luxurious rooms, fine dining, and a pool. The hotel features nineteen suites set in large gardens, each uniquely decorated with stunning coastal views, fireplaces, marble floors, and frescoed ceilings. Guests can enjoy exquisite meals prepared by a Michelin star chef at the onsite restaurant and relax by the swimming pool in the central courtyard.
This is one of my favourite hotels in the world. Sitting on top of a mountain, with stunning views of both the sea and other mountains for miles on end. Pictures don't do it justice, it has to be seen with your own eyes to be truly appreciated. Just be prepared for a short 10 minute hike with stairs to reach the hotel, since there are no direct roads accessible, but your luggage will be taken care of by the hotel porters. The walk to the hotel is a refreshing experience itself, giving you a taste of the Ravello mountain life! The staff were all polite and professional, catering to our every need. We went for our wedding anniversary, and the staff accommodated us at every moment, even opening up their helipad for our pickup during departure. Highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking to enjoy a peaceful escape far away from noise and people!
Rohaan — Google review
I was hoping to visit la Rondinaia in Ravello but, as this is not possible, visited Villa Cimbrone instead. Yes, the entry fee of 10euros per person was rather stiff and yes the lady at the ticket counter made being rude a matter of principal, her calling. We are but vulgar tourists to be tolerated if we are lucky. That being said, everybody else was thoroughly charming and wonderful. The gardens are stunningly beautiful and manicured beyond belief. It is a huge pleasure to wander through and the views are breath-taking. Just like the rest of the Amalfi coast, just more so. We came across the villa restaurant (not the Michelin star one) by chance and had the most wonderful meal of our stay in Italy! The food was amazing, the service impeccable and the view I have already written about. My wife and I can't wait to go back!
James T — Google review
Going to the city Amalfi brings you close to Ravello. When you bring a car, make the trip to Ravello. Parking is a small disaster. Stroll thought the village centre which has a nice sqaure and walk in about 10 minutes to Villa Cimbrone. Youo nly need to visit the garden. There is a beautiful view over de Amalfi coast on a terrace called Terrazza dell'Infinito. In the garden is a small bar with the famous balcony. Enjoy.
Luppo E — Google review
Villa Cimbrone has a fascinating history that blends old-world charm with modern appeal. Its first records date back to the 11th century, during Ravello’s golden era, when it was owned by noble families such as the Acconciajoco and later the Fusco. However, over time, the villa fell into disrepair and became a ruin. In 1904, Ernest William Beckett, later known as Lord Grimthorpe, discovered the property. A wealthy and eccentric Englishman, he fell in love with Villa Cimbrone and decided to restore it. Collaborating with local builder Nicola Mansi, he rebuilt the villa in a mix of Moorish, Venetian, and Gothic styles, incorporating elements from across Italy. This restoration led to the beautiful, almost dreamlike villa we see today. During Beckett's ownership, Villa Cimbrone became a retreat for many notable writers, artists, and thinkers, including Virginia Woolf, E.M. Forster, Winston Churchill, and Greta Garbo. Today, the Vuilleumier family owns the villa. They have preserved its historic beauty and transformed it into a charming hotel, renowned for its stunning Terrace of Infinity and serene gardens. Although we did not stay at the hotel and cannot comment on its services, the gardens are open to visitors who wish to explore the beautiful scenery. We enjoyed a leisurely hour-long walk around the property, which also features a café for all visitors.
Afshin A — Google review
Simply an unparalleled, life-affirming experience! The Terrace of Infinity offers the best sea + nature view I have ever witnessed anywhere in the world. It is truly an experience that words fail to capture. The entire villa grounds and park are stunning and perfectly maintained, making the whole visit an absolute must-do! and as a bonus, its a starting point for the most scenic down-hikes to Atrani (lots of stairs though)
Nika K — Google review
The villa has absolutely breathtaking views — you can see the entire Amalfi Coast from above! It’s surrounded by beautiful nature, lovely gardens, and charming little vegetable patches and flowers. Everything is just perfect and so picturesque!
Cristina P — Google review
we were just here to visit the garden. but I would definitely think about staying at the hotel too. the garden is absolutely worth the entrance fee of euro 10. there are many places to sit, enjoy, reflect and look around.
Andreas H — Google review
Absolutely unbelievable!! One of the most excellent places on the planet!! The story behind the establishment of this villa is unbearably romantic and that energy permeates the entire estate. There are places to eat at both ends of the gardens, which is great because we really did work up an appetite while strolling the gardens. We spent around 5 hours wandering through the gardens and many rooms, crypts and galleries. Really well worth the visit!!

Cathedral of St Andrew Apostle

Mentioned on
+22 other lists
Catholic cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
The Cathedral of St. Andrew Apostle, also known as the Cathedral of Amalfi, is a historic church located in the town of Amalfi in Campania, Italy. Originally built in the 10th century and later expanded into a grand Roman church with multiple porches and halls, it has undergone several renovations over the centuries. The entrance features a bronze gate from Constantinople and golden mosaics depicting Moorish life.
The Cathedral of St. Andrew the Apostle is strikingly beautiful and sits right at the center of Amalfi’s main piazza. You’ll enter by climbing a dramatic grand staircase, which makes the whole experience feel even more impressive. Inside, the cathedral features stunning marble throughout and intricately detailed painted mural ceilings. The crypt, which holds the relics of St. Andrew, is a peaceful space still used for prayer, adding to the spiritual depth of the visit. Just off the main cathedral is the Cloister of Paradise, a quiet and beautiful courtyard surrounded by elegant columns and arches. There’s also a small museum on-site with religious artifacts, including a display case said to hold a thorn from the crown of Jesus during the crucifixion. Whether you're visiting for the history, architecture, or spiritual connection, the cathedral leaves a lasting impression.
Casey P — Google review
St. Andrew’s Cathedral stands as the magnificent centerpiece of Amalfi’s main square, serving as the town’s spiritual heart. The cathedral’s stunning architecture and sacred atmosphere create an unforgettable experience, particularly the rare opportunity to venerate a relic of St. Andrew, Christ’s first disciple. The adjoining museum and ancient crypt are equally impressive, offering rich historical insights. The staff welcomes visitors with genuine warmth and helpfulness. For English-speaking visitors: the cathedral offers Sunday evening Mass in English at 6 PM during summer months. While intimate in size, this service provides a meaningful opportunity for international visitors to fully participate in worship after attending Italian-language services elsewhere. St. Andrew’s Cathedral exemplifies Christian hospitality, graciously accommodating both pilgrims and tourists with a spirit that truly reflects its sacred mission.
Neil T — Google review
Visiting the Cathedral of Saint Andrew in Amalfi was one of the most impressive experiences of my trip. The church is truly breathtaking, both inside and out. The grand staircase leading up to the entrance, the beautifully detailed façade, and the striking blend of architectural styles make it a masterpiece that immediately captures your attention. Inside, the atmosphere is equally captivating—peaceful, spiritual, and filled with artistic details that reflect centuries of history. Every corner seems to tell a story, and the craftsmanship is nothing short of extraordinary. I would recommend this place without hesitation to anyone visiting Amalfi. It is not only a landmark but also an unforgettable cultural and spiritual experience that should not be missed.
Alexandru M — Google review
Must see cathedral with incredible history and architecture spanning 4 different styles, Romanesque, Arab-Norman, Baroque, and Gothic. The church has been rebuilt and added to so many times, making it a really unique piece of history and a snapshot of the culture of the time of construction. Of note obviously is the supposed remains of Saint Andrew who is said to be interred in a crypt from the 1200’s. Not to be outdone by any of the other strange and amazing claims by European Catholic Churches, it is said that manna forms on the sarcophagus and collected from the saints bones, so that’s something. All weirdness aside, the artwork, craftsmanship, and ornate structures inside and out are so worth the price of admission.
Guineviere C — Google review
The Cathedral of St Andrew in Amalfi is a beautiful medieval church incorporating various architectural styles and dominating the central piazza of Amalfi. When we visited there was a service taking place so we contented ourdelves with the beautiful facade and the historic area around the cathedral. Parking in Amalfi was surprisingly easy since the town has a huge underground car park hollowed out of a hill which certainly saves trying to find street parking.
Bernard S — Google review
The Cathedral of St Andrew in Amalfi is worth every sweaty step up those stairs, think of it as your cardio session before the spiritual experience. The place is stunning, grand enough to make you forget your aching calves. Inside, it’s peaceful, beautiful, and full of history. Outside, it’s pure Italian drama, bells ringing, tourists posing, and pigeons doing whatever pigeons do best. A perfect mix of holiness and chaos. Highly recommend, but maybe skip leg day before visiting.
Joe ( — Google review
The Cattedrale di Sant’Andrea in Amalfi is one of the town’s most beautiful landmarks and absolutely worth a visit. The exterior is stunning, with its impressive staircase and striking façade that immediately catches your eye as you arrive in the main square. Inside, the church is just as remarkable, with ornate details and a peaceful yet solemn atmosphere. It’s also an important religious site as it houses the relics of Saint Andrew. There is usually a lot of people, so expect crowds, especially during the day, but it is still an unmissable stop if you are in Amalfi.
Rob — Google review
The Cathedral of St Andrew Apostle is one of the most beautiful landmarks I’ve visited. Its striking black-and-white striped façade and grand staircase create an unforgettable first impression. Climbing the steps gives you a sense of anticipation, and when you finally stand in front of the entrance, the intricate details of the architecture truly stand out. Inside, the cathedral is just as impressive. The combination of rich mosaics, marble columns, and golden details creates an atmosphere of both grandeur and peace. Light streaming through the windows adds to the beauty, highlighting the craftsmanship in every corner. I visited on a weekday and only waited about 10 minutes to enter, which made the experience smooth and enjoyable. The location in the heart of Amalfi adds to the charm, as you can explore the surrounding streets and enjoy a coffee or gelato after your visit. Whether you’re interested in history, architecture, or simply looking for a breathtaking spot to appreciate, this cathedral is a must-see. It’s a place where you can slow down, take in the beauty, and feel connected to centuries of tradition and faith.

The Luci D'Artista light installations illuminate the nights over the holiday season.
Lovely little park, free toilets although not very clean, and lots of tortoises! Awesome

Villa Comunale di Salerno is one of those places that you unexpectedly fall in love with and find yourself coming back to again and again. Nestled between the lively seafront and the charming old town, it’s a peaceful retreat full of greenery, elegance, and history. From the moment you enter, you're surrounded by beautifully manicured gardens, classic fountains, and lovely shaded paths lined with palm trees, exotic plants, and vibrant flowers. The atmosphere is calm and welcoming—perfect for a morning walk, a quiet break in the afternoon, or just soaking up the local atmosphere. What sets it apart is its combination of nature and art. Throughout the garden are impressive statues, busts of notable Italian figures, and plaques with historical significance. You really get the feeling that this isn’t just a park—it’s a living museum in the open air. There’s also a charming bandstand in the centre, which adds to the timeless feel of the place. The cleanliness and upkeep are worth mentioning—the gardens are very well maintained and there are plenty of benches to sit on. It’s safe, family-friendly, and never feels overcrowded. It’s also just a few minutes from Salerno’s Lungomare promenade, so it fits easily into a day of sightseeing. And if you’re lucky enough to visit during the famous Luci d’Artista light festival (usually between November and January), Villa Comunale becomes a truly magical wonderland. The entire park is transformed into a glowing fairytale, with giant illuminated animals, trees wrapped in lights, and creative displays that enchant both kids and adults. It’s one of the highlights of Salerno in winter. Overall, Villa Comunale di Salerno is more than just a park—it’s a peaceful, historic, and beautifully designed space that reflects the elegance and warmth of the city itself. Whether you’re a tourist or a local, it’s a place that invites you to slow down and simply enjoy the moment.

Duomo di Santa Maria degli Angeli, San Matteo e San Gregorio VII

Sights & Landmarks
The Cathedral of Santa Maria degli Angeli, San Matteo and San Gregorio VII is an ornate church with a rich history dating back to 1084. It has undergone several renovations due to natural disasters but has been restored to its original grandeur.
A beautiful 1,000 year old church with a fantastic crypt. The ceiling of the crypt is painted with beautiful frescoes telling many of the stories of Jesus' birth, life, death, and resurrection. I took so many photos of the ceiling that my neck started to hurt! Be sure to visit the museum as well - so many amazing works of art spanning several centuries. Totally worth the couple of hours we spent there and the small admission fee.

Not bad for 7€ per person, the audio guide tells you about the history of the place, there's more to see than just the church, we visited the church and the nearby monastery.

The Duomo di Salerno is a beautiful and historic cathedral that is absolutely worth a visit. Built in the 11th century by Robert Guiscard and dedicated to Saint Matthew, whose relics are preserved here, it is one of the most important churches in southern Italy. The entrance through the courtyard with its arches and columns already sets a special atmosphere before you reach the main interior. Inside, the cathedral is elegant and rich in history, with impressive mosaics, chapels, and the crypt of Saint Matthew, which is truly striking. When we visited in the afternoon, there were surprisingly few people, which made the experience even more enjoyable and allowed us to really take in the details in peace. A must-see in Salerno for both history and architecture lovers.

It is worth the trip. If you go to Salerno by cruise ship, take the ferry one way and take the bus another way to Amalfi. You can definitely go further places, but Amalfi was beautiful. It is an expensive place for drinks, deserts, etc. but hey you are on vacation, live a little
Ilkay — Google review
My friend and I arrived here a half hour before the crypt closed Friday night. Definitely go closer to closing as there was almost no one there and made for better photos in the ASTOUNDING crypt. For a fiver, this was SO worth it. I’ve only seen a crypt this spectacular at St Francis Monastery in Assisi. Absolutely mind-blowing Baroque work. We spent 20 minutes JUST in the crypt taking photos. The nave on the other hand is quite simple but has a gorgeous mosaic and there is also a lovely tomb right outside the crypt exit. The online guide you scan via a QR code is very helpful as there is no other info around to guide what you’re looking at.

The Duomo of Salerno is breathtaking in its mix of history and architecture. Built in the 11th century by the Normans, it holds the relics of Saint Matthew, one of the Apostles, making it an important pilgrimage site. The bronze doors are incredible, and the crypt beneath the main altar is richly decorated with mosaics and frescoes - one of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen. The atmosphere is quiet and reverent, but also very welcoming. A must-visit if you’re in Salerno, even if just for a short stroll through the historic center.

Abbey Goleto is a beautifully restored abbey with a rich historical background dating back to the early 1100s. It is located in a serene and picturesque setting, making it an ideal destination for a day trip or events. The abbey also houses Roman era spoils in its bell tower and walls, adding to its historical significance. Visitors can enjoy the calm and relaxing atmosphere while exploring this historical gem.
What an amazing place we stumbled upon after eating at an excellent restaurant nearby. Well worth a visit.

Abbey of Goleto is a beautifully maintained site that deserves much more promotion and visibility, as it is truly stunning. The abbey was founded in the 12th century by Saint William of Vercelli and became an important spiritual center in the region. The site offers plenty of information: there are detailed signs in both Italian and English, and you can even listen to the content via QR codes in both languages. Parking is easy, and entry is free. There isn’t much else directly around the abbey (apart from a café and a restaurant), but the peaceful atmosphere and the history make it well worth a visit.

Peaceful, wonderful place for walk
Janet C — Google review
A beautiful afternoon walking around the smaller lake paths. Picturesque, full of beautiful flora and fauna, and hot but lovely weather. Upon parking, we were met with a gorgeous pair of white horses ready to give carriage rides. We didn't go on a ride, but I imagine it being a lovely way to view the park. Wonderful food at the restaurant Mecca (right on the water!). The waitress was a sweetheart. The food so tasty. The white church was stunning, as the platform where the priest would stand is abutting the mountain stone. Magnificent. Although I cannot seem to find it here on G-maps, it is to see! My only complaint was that some of the pathways were destroyed by rain, and never fixed. Could be recent, might not be? No idea, but one path (below the white church), was so bad it deterred us from continuing down to a spot near the water. (That is why a star was removed.) There is an older stone church ruins, too. (further into the pathways, not right off the water)... ancient. It is gated but makes for fantastic photos. There is also a water fountain just near it for drinking and refreshing. Wow! One of the shops we visited had a lot of cute things to sell, but they were obviously dated and dusty. Yes, part of that could be because wind and dust are part of nature, but I tend to think objects have sat there a while. I still purchased some things. Worth going back to revisit, but also to explore the bigger lake! I didn't notice standalone bathrooms. Bathrooms are found in restaurants where a small purchase of water, gum, candy, potato chips would be welcome, but not necessarily required. Ask within. The walking pathways around the lakes are wheelchair accessible. There are stairs to get into the white church by the smaller lake, so not easily wheelchair accessible. The pathways down the incline by the white church are not wheelchair accessible, either. As some have said, there is a lack of maintenance in certain respects, and there are many abandoned restaurants, but they do NOT take away from the experience, in my opinion.

(Translated by Google) I went there with my family in June for a nature walk. We spent a pleasant day ... we took a tour of the lake in Pedalò, lunch in a restaurant right near the lake finally a carriage ride to visit the Lake Grande di Monticchio. Unfortunately the place is a bit "abandoned to itself" (the dirty benches as well as the little street for the walk) perhaps due to the fact that the working season has not yet started in June. (Translated by Google) For us it is a place where we meet friends who have moved to the province of Potenza. It's nice to walk in the forest air around Lago Piccolo (easy walk for everyone), admire different species of plants and wild animals. The lakes are of volcanic origin and are located in the Vulture Reserve, where Mount Vulture, an ancient extinct volcano, was located. From the small lake you can see the Abbey of San Michele Arcangelo which stands out, white, among the vegetation. In recent days it has hosted the contemporary art exhibition Omphalos by the Avigliano artist Massimo De Carlo. The path around the lake should be looked after more as well as the undergrowth. Along the walk you can find refreshment in small bars and restaurants with local specialties.

Our tour guide Francesca was great! She told us so much history about the cellars where the wine is stored and about the history of the place and the wine itself. The wine tasting and tour is only 35 euro which is a steal for everything you get. You tour the facility for about an hour then taste and discuss 4 wines of your choosing, also for about an hour. The wines are mostly reds created from the aglianico grape. The wines range in price from about 12 euro to 40 euro. Of course there are exceptions but this is the average. The wine has special mineral qualities because of the dormant Vulture volcano soil the grapes are grown in. The only sad thing, they do not ship to the US yet! Not to worry, they have a distributor. If you are in the area I recommend this tour and winery. Almost forgot, bring a jacket as the cellars are chilly. If you forget, no problem, they have jackets to borrow there!

Now back in the UK we have a great wine shop and owner that we've known for years. He also has family in the region, Basilicata. And he supplies us this wine. So we thought, let's go straight to the shop. We had a tour and some wine tasting, just the snacks, unfortunately not meats and cheese (next time). So off we went into the sellers and where the tour began. Fantastic story and explanation of what makes this wine special. We tasted two wines and loved them both. Should you gobif near, yes. The tour we took was €10 each, to be honest that's cheap and well worth the value. 👍👍🍷🍷

Just wanted to share a cantina in Basilicata for anyone heading to Matera! 90 mins north there is the Aglianico del Vulture DOC region and the Cantina del Notaio (cantina of the notary). You walk through an underground maze of about half a dozen caves from the '400-'600 built by franciscan friars to make divine wine while treating the sick. The barrels are still stored there today! We also had a chance to taste their two most popular wines: la firma and sigillo (clever names lol). Sigillo reminds me of the amarone-very rich, good with a fiorentina steak and you can taste the tannins-It takes about 4 years to bottle. La Firma was my personal favorite-2 years to bottle so a younger wine.

Cascate di San Fele is a series of picturesque waterfalls nestled in the hilly, forested terrain of the Lucanian Apennines. The Bradanello torrent gives rise to these stunning cascades as it flows through the municipality of San Fele. Visitors can explore the network of trails that connect these waterfalls, including one dedicated to lovers.
A really beautiful spot in nature, a set of around 7 waterfalls, a couple of which can’t be accessed because of landslide damage. The ones you can visit are just a short walk from the town of San Fele and are really lovely and completely free to enter. The water is cool and clear, some people were swimming but it was too cold for me!

Beautiful spot for a walk in the woods! We enjoyed a pleasant visit to the falls and viewed some wonderful fall scenery along the way. Some other Italian groups out for the same… made for a great outing! The signs are pretty old and impossible to read, so no way to “plan” the walk and route. Hence, 4 stars. Otherwise really nice!

Those of San Fele, like many other waterfalls, were formed along the courses of rivers because, in a stretch of their course, the part of the land on which they flow is less resistant to erosion than the part further upstream; over time, a difference in height is formed between the two parts and a waterfall is thus generated that can slowly grow in height over the passing of millennia…

The Museo archeologico nazionale della Basilicata, located in Potenza and inaugurated in 2005, provides a comprehensive overview of archaeological findings from the entire region. The museum is divided into two floors, showcasing exhibits in chronological and geographical order.
The admission to the museum was very reasonable. We were also pleasantly surprised when we were greeted by Valentino, who was our guide during our visit. She was an excellent guide and explained the history of the artifacts. We learned more about the exhibits than we would have done on our own. We enjoyed our visit to the museum and would recommend it to others. The artifacts are displayed very well.

The National Museum of Potenza needs no recommendation, as it houses one of the richest and finest archaeological collections in southern Italy and is a must for anyone interested in the pre-Roman past of Basilicata. The collection includes rich burial goods from the Early Iron Age, highlights such as the elaborate assemblages from the Archaic tombs of Braida di Vaglio and exquisite objects from the Lucanian phase of the region. The objects are presented with the greatest care, telling the complex history of Basilicata through the ages, and the museum is still evolving, with an extension of the Roman section in preparation. Many thanks to the whole team for making it an unforgettable visit!

Maria della Consolazione in Altomonte is a typical example of Angevin art, developed in southern Italy between the 13th and 14th centuries, whose roots are to be found in the French region of Provence. Its construction dates back to around 1336, at the behest of Filippo Sangineto, first count of Altomonte. Presumably completed in 1380, in 1443 it was granted to the Dominican Order, who founded their monastery there. The annexed Convent, commissioned by Cobella Ruffo Sanseverino, in the meantime enriched with a new two-storey building with a cloister, thus became a leading center of theological and scientific studies in southern Italy. Among its "guests", Tommaso Campanella deserves a special mention, who right here, around 1589, wrote his famous work Philosophia sensibus demonstrata. Regarding the Angevin temple of Altomonte, there is also talk of "Gothic influence". In reality, what influenced the construction of the building was its "Cistercian variant", characterized by simple shapes and austere environments. The Cistercian churches, in fact, are distinguished by a Latin cross plan with a rectangular apse, with a poorly developed presbytery. Few ornaments and decorations, exposed stone or lime plastered facades. Construction and aesthetic aspects that were affected by the particularly severe rule of the monastic order founded by St. Bernard of Clairvaux. Hence the similarity of the church of Altomonte with other Cistercian complexes scattered across the peninsula, such as, for example, the church of the Abbey of Fossanova in Lazio. However, there is no shortage of Romanesque-inspired motifs in the same structure. Its construction took place on the basis of a pre-existing structure from the Norman era, dating back to the first half of the 11th century. A structure, presumably small in size, consecrated to S. Maria de Franchis (of the Franks). Pochi ornamenti e decorazioni, facciate in pietra a vista o intonacate a calce.

(Translated by Google) We visited the Grotte di Sant'Angelo during an evening event for €5 per person, which included a glass of wine tasting: a truly evocative experience. After being closed for many years, the site has reopened to the public and now offers a well-organized tourist trail, built on metal walkways and equipped with permanent lighting, making exploration simple and safe. A visit to the caves lasts about an hour. From the small parking lot, the entrance is reached by a walk of about 400 meters and an elevation gain of about fifty meters. It's not a long walk, but it's good to know, especially if you have children or mobility issues. Parking spaces are limited, so it's best to arrive early or inquire about a shuttle service. Visits are normally guided only and reservations are required; however, in my case, the event was unguided, which made the atmosphere even more magical. Inside, the temperature remains constant at around 16°C, with very high humidity: a light sweatshirt is recommended, even in summer. It would also be helpful to bring protective helmets, as it's easy to bump your head in some places. The limestone formations, the spacious rooms, and the interplay of light offer a spectacular view. The beauty of the place more than makes up for the effort of the climb. It's a fascinating place, combining nature, history, and atmosphere. I highly recommend booking in advance, both to secure a spot and to avoid finding it closed.

Sulfur healing spa with healing mud and two swimming pools with natural spring thermal waters. One swimming pool for the kids, one for adults. Separate area with mud for healing purposes and a connected drying and washing area - all with natural spring water and mud. Beautiful natural cave is unfortunately closed due to danger of collapse in certain areas. Sanation works are expected in 2026 when it should be reopened. All in all it is a very small facility, but a nice one to spend a few hours with the family, have a snack and relax.

Information that the pool is not open is not indicated on the website, moreover, on Google maps it was indicated that the facility is open until 18:00. We drove 120 km on mountain roads one way just for this establishment. Terrible organization, there is no reliable information about the mode of operation. The place itself is wonderful.

The Museo della liquirizia "Giorgio Amarelli" is the second most visited business museum in Italy, showcasing the tools used in licorice production and marketing. Visitors praise the friendly staff and informative tours, even for those not fond of licorice. The well-stocked shop offers reasonably priced products and guided factory tours for a small fee.

A great place to visit. Super friendly staff. We had a great tour from an English speaking staff member and despite asking her lots of questions about the details of the production etc she was a "gold mine" of information. Even if you do not like licorice the factory and museum are really interesting from a historical and technical perspective. The shop is well stocked and prices are reasonable. One suggestion: could you make signs above the boxes showing what combination is in the different coloured boxes? - probably you would then sell even more!! :=) Thanks very much for an enjoyable experience. Tours last 30+ minutes (depending on questions!) and take place (in February) at 10, 11 and 16. Check the website for more - including booking because many time slots seem to be booked in advance, probably for school or tour groups. Recommended.

AcquaPark Odissea 2000 is an expansive water park featuring a variety of attractions such as slides, a water roller coaster, pools, and a lazy river. The park offers something for everyone, from thrilling rides to areas suitable for small kids. While some visitors noted that the kids' area could use improvements, they appreciated the many different pools and water slides available. The park also provides various dining options including a pizzeria and bar with reasonable prices.
Huge aquapark with many different sections. Well guarded and very crowded during the peak, especially on the weekend. The only bad thing is that there's a lot of people that pee in the pool, you can feel the smell...
Eneada S — Google review
This was our second time visiting this water park and it would be our last time. The staff are very rude. I was not allowed to go on the slide with my phone and the cover. I asked why some people were allowed to go on the slide with the goggles, the guy started to shout at me that these were the rules and he wouldn't explain the reason. Lack of education and politeness. I wouldn't recommend this place!!! I attached two pictures of the two staff.

Mid park. Wasn’t the best I would say. I just have one big complaint that I really hated. When I slide down any slide, my back gets hurt and red because where the slide parts connect there’s a slight edge! Also do NOT take the white steep slide. It’s one where there’s two next to each other and it has a green roof. That one was PAINFUL!!! It was like sliding on a cheese grater!!!

Very fun place, but your small child has to slide on her own, you can’t even help her get up the stairs. Also I wasn’t allowed to sit near the pool for some reason like in the picture 😀 The foods were awful. They heat cold food up and it tastes like it’s old. Also they allowed smoking near the childrens pool which was disgusting!

Great day with the family. Wasn’t so busy on Monday in June. Was no hot water in the shower. My only complaint 👌

Very nice park! There is a lot of attractions and places to eat. Price for the entrance go from 18 to 23 eur depending in which season you go. Prices for food and drinks inside are honest prices: a sandwich with Calabria sausage+soft drink 40ml was 5,50 eur. Coffee (espresso) 1 euro. It was Friday, end of July and it was good amount of people... Lines for the slides were very short (max 10 minutes) and there was the possibility to do slides also note than once. It is advised to go during the week (mon-fri) or not in August, otherwise there is the risk that the lines for the slides are too long and it is gonna be difficult to enjoy the park. There is both a good area for children and a good area for adults. The staff working in the park is young, very kind and helpful.

Old Town is a charming destination where life thrives around its vibrant town square, serving as a gathering place for locals to chat and connect. Throughout the year, this historic area comes alive with various events celebrating Christmas, Carnival, Easter, and numerous religious festivals honoring saints and the Virgin Mary. Surrounded by thick medieval stone walls, Old Town offers an authentic glimpse into the past that feels like stepping back in time.
Old, rusty and beautiful.

(Translated by Google) We were at the Lilio astronomical park during the Stargazer festival 2025 in Savelli in the deep province of Crotone. Even without a reservation, they immediately welcomed us with affection. We could only stay one day but we still had the opportunity to be amazed and learn a lot about the stars, some astrologers including the unknown Lilio, the planets and many myths and legends about them. At night, we entered the beautiful forest next door, a Mediterranean forest with the typical scents of the Mediterranean which holds the record for being among the darkest places in Europe. We observed some fireflies and walked together with many citizens in the forest next door trying in the silence to understand how much life there is around. Given the tiredness of the long day (18 hours), we were allowed to sleep there on site for free in a tent or van. Therefore, with this post I wanted to thank and greet everyone on the team from the bottom of my heart. I wish them all the best for a long and prosperous future. So, an invitation to anyone who's never been there to visit this place and the nearby town at least once in their lives. In the town, by the way, near a bar whose name I can't remember, there's a bakery that turns out delicious treats from the morning...

(Translated by Google) From culinary science, we now move to natural science, or more precisely, to the science of the stars. Not to the mystical and deceptive astrology, which we flee like yeast from a double-zero flour dough; here, as always, we seek quality, whether in the culture of the palate or in that of knowledge. I came here for an evening guided by Umberto and Angela, two modern-day Charons who, instead of leading souls across the Styx, ferry minds from ignorance to knowledge. And they do it with art: he, young and bold, with fire in his eyes and the precision of a celestial clock, distills explanations as clear as spring water. She, a wise siren, alternates ancient myths with scientific truths, and with voice and gestures enchants the audience on a journey between past, present, and what lies beyond. Two full hours vanished like stars at dawn, sustained by a language that speaks to all ages and a telescope capable of transforming the pages of books into vivid visions. And so the Moon, Saturn, and the Pole Star, which we thought already familiar, return today to shine with new wonder in our memories. Well done, truly well done. And as with Charon, the offering to be paid is light, almost symbolic. The only caveat, so as not to lose pilgrims: better signposting of the route, since the digital maps, that evening, seemed to have lost their bearings... perhaps they too were enchanted by the song of the stars.

(Translated by Google) RATING 3 BUT... I was here only for the SPA. I'm sorry to say that it has so much potential but maintenance should be done and above all it should be checked whether the services are efficient. There is no dedicated room for changing or rather there is a bathroom which acts as a bath, shower (not working in my case) and changing room with various lockers with electronic locks (NOT WORKING!) There is no privacy and for changing it is a bit like a prestigious number worthy of Arturo Brachetti but oh well, the maintenance in the various rooms such as: the two hydromassages both without working waterfall shower and in one even a (submerged) LED spotlight detached from the wall, Turkish bath room with some shower heads that should be replaced, the two basins in front of the bathrooms not working, then shall I say some relaxing music? No, no total silence. I would recommend putting up at least a table with the rule that if you don't use the sunbeds they should be left free because for the entire stay the sunbeds are empty but with flip flops and a towel spread out on them! A positive note is that in the end you can still relax but for the price paid I don't see why they shouldn't do the necessary maintenance so as to enjoy everything you pay for!!! Another positive note is for the very polite and nice Argentinian boy with whom I had a chat. In summary Rating 3 but if it weren't for these small shortcomings it would deserve a 5 star, too bad. (Original) VOTO 3 MA... No niente silenzio totale.

(Translated by Google) The experience has been disappointing. We expected more from a 4 star hotel. We were two couples, we did the spa and dinner. The rooms were spacious, comfortable and had good views. In the spa we were alone and the facilities were typical of a spa with decoration inspired by a cave, relaxing and beautiful. However, the food is not worth a euro of your money. Terrible quality, few options, in fact we tried the two pastas that were available and they were each worse. The sauce for the noodles was gelatinous and just tasted like avecrem. Then the gnocchi was just crushed tomato with sausage. For the main course we decided on entrecôte with potatoes, it was better not to order the potatoes because even though they looked good they were fried but raw (truly one of the worst I have ever eaten) although I think they were natural, not frozen. The meat was the best thing we ate during our stay, without being very good, it was just fine. Finally, the breakfast, thank goodness, was included in the price of the room because it was not of any quality either; it was sandwiches and things bought in a low-quality supermarket. I want to think that since it wasn't high season (we were the only guests in the hotel) they didn't have the same conditions, even so it doesn't seem like a justification to me. In short, if you want to enjoy the spa and the snow, I would recommend it, but I don't think the hotel deserves 4 stars at all given what I've seen. With this review I hope that the hotel knows how to improve its service at a gastronomic level and provides the quality that its price deserves. I just hope they know how to live up to what they sell. Finally, I appreciate the attention of the waitress Ana, a charming girl who treated us magnificently.
