Castle
Museums
Trakoscan Castle, the most renowned castle in Croatia, offers a captivating journey into the opulent lifestyle of Croatian nobility. Dating back to the late 13th century and featuring a blend of Neo-Gothic and period styles from extensive 19th-century renovations, this hilltop castle boasts historical paintings, furniture, weaponry, and priceless objects from various eras. The museum inside showcases the noble life and Draskovic family history.
An interesting castle, with great history behind! It is well maintained so you can get a peek of how the royals lived in the past. The furniture is authentic, and the kitchen still has the smell of the cooking i feel 😊 Worth visiting for sure.

Great place to spend the day. Very practical with the ones with children or even for freshly in live couples. The lake behind the castle offers a wonderful 2 hours walk through a beautiful nature. The place is majestic. There is a beautiful restaurant underneath the castle to recharge your batteries. Also s free parking. Enjoy
Vojislav G — Google review
truly one of best ways to spend a day. the castle is beautiful on the inside and out and the walk around the lake is super long but so worth it. it is definitely a 1.5 hour walk, maybe even 2 hours if you walk slow. highly recommend going here because the experience is really something if you love being in nature
Nika — Google review
It's so amazing, I love the castle and the lake is lovely too, if you have time and energy to tour around the whole lake I would definitely recommend that but it will take you 2 hours if done at slow walking pace, some 12000 steps or more. Lovely day trip, entery ticket to the castle costs 10 euro for adults, lake is free.
Matej N — Google review
A fairytale castle surrounded by forest and a peaceful lake. The interiors are beautifully preserved, giving a real sense of noble life centuries ago. The walk around the lake offers stunning views and a relaxing atmosphere. Well maintained, easy to reach, and perfect for a quiet romantic getaway or a scenic day trip.
RoBo A — Google review
Beautiful castle that is well reconstructed. In quiet region of north Croatia. For 10 € it has a lot to show visitors. Truly exceptional view from the highest floors.
Pavol B — Google review
We totally loved our visit here! Could have stayed here a lot longer but we were on a tight schedule. Beautiful on the outside as well as the inside. A must see! So much history in each room.
Jason M — Google review
Takoscan Castle is located at the north of Zagreb. It is around 75 kms from Zagreb. We took a car on rent to go to this place. It is towards Maribor from Zagreb. A quaint serene place. The entry ticket is 10 euros for the adults. There was no waiting time for taking the ticket. We have to climb up to reach the castle. The castle overlooks the lake which is a man made lake.

Very nice outlet, good prices, a bit far from the city, but definitely worth going to..
Shereif W — Google review
Driving back to Slovenia, we stopped to see the Roses Designer Outlet. It’s a beautiful place, clean and love the colors on the buildings but it has very little stores left. The ones that were opened had great deals on. Bought a super cute top from S. Oliver. It did have a small seating area restaurant open, which was nice. Great place to let the kids run around and burn off some energy!! Since it’s so empty. Open 7 days a week including the weekend from 10am to 8pm. They did have beautiful roses growing everywhere.
Cindy — Google review
It is a nice place but not very visited. No fast food restaurants and only one coffe shop/bar.
Velimir H — Google review
Most stores was closed, just few choices
Mohammad A — Google review
More than half shops are closed, abandoned... Few more are closing. The building itself is pretty old...not maintained good...
5ER 5 — Google review
The place is beautiful and clean - great.. BUT this is supposed to be an OUTLET with cheaper prices. I found things priced the same as they were in the regular store. It’s actually more affordable to wait for a sale in a certain store than drive all the way here..
Lilu Y — Google review
Roses Designer Outlet is located just next to the border between Croatia and Slovenia. We visit it with whole family to dress kids, my wife and myself. It is a great opportunity for a stop during your long journey to Adriatics or back home before long traffic jam at the border. One can go for shopping or have a lunch break in the Roses' restaurants. The Outlet has a lot of clothes and footware options to choose from: designer shoes collection, dresses, suits, jeans or sport ware are represented here from most of the trendy brands. However one should notice that shops availability quite often depends on a season and year and some of them are closed when you just need them! Thereby I am giving only four points from five to this Designers Outlet. In any case the Roses is must to visit destination with moderate prices for disigners ware) I wish you to have fun here!

When visiting Ptuj, the oldest Slovenian town, a must-see attraction is Ptuj Castle. This 12th-century hilltop fortress offers a glimpse into the town's history through its museum, which showcases historical art, weapons, and instruments. The castle's tower provides stunning panoramic views of the town and surrounding countryside. Additionally, visitors can explore exhibitions such as the rifle exhibition, musical instrument exhibition, and colorful traditional Pust masks exhibition within the castle.
Beautiful Castle in Ptuj. Contains the biggest music instrument collection in Slovenia, also a lot of pieces of the feudal life, weapons, tapestries and furniture. Definetely recomended Parking is free. 10€ entery fee for adults, 5 for kids.
Branko R — Google review
Wonderful castle with rich history and, luckily for us, many fun activities. We visited the Castle at the time of the Art Festival, where art workshops for kids were taking place. It was wonderful! At the castle you can see some interesting musical instruments, traditional masks, weapons and so on. We also enjoyed visiting the musum shop, which featured handmade products from local artists. Very worth the visit!
Alda D — Google review
This is a lovely place to explore and to view the city below; it is also home to the one of the two oldest vine plants in the world and both are in Slovenia, this particular one being in the central court yard of the Castle.

Terme Ptuj - Sava Hotels & Resorts is a relaxed resort located in Ptuj, Slovenia's oldest city. The resort offers a variety of amenities including two restaurants, two bars, and a spa with hot tubs. Guests can also enjoy activities such as tennis and access to a fitness center. Nearby attractions include the Ptuj Castle and the picturesque landscape of rolling hills with vineyards and orchards, making it an ideal destination for runners and hikers.
Went here with my family and everyone loved it. It is not as crowded as some other water parks in Slovenia. Plenty of awesome water slides, although unfortunately two newest ones were still closed at the time of writing.
Jan J — Google review
Indoor pool facilities are poorly maintained and can be life threatening. Seems like the management is completely disconnected from the business. And all it would take is a little bit of effort, but that's obviusely too much to expect. Price - Performance is a pure catastrophy. 4hours cost 60+€ for 2 adults and 2 kids (5 & 10). Won't be back any time soon.
Saso L — Google review
On a day trip to this spa we found it the most disappointing experience. It was a very hot day 12.08.2025, a lot of people. The issues we have are, not very clean quite dirty, lots of babies in nappies in the adult pools when therecare plenty of children pool spaces, and no control of kids jumping in every pool. We are staying here from New Zealand and have been to many of the Spa pools. This was the most disappointing experience.
Peter M — Google review
My review is for the pools ( aqua park) 30.06.2024 Price 20 euros for adults during the weekend and 18 rest of the week. And that is in my opinion expensive. Half slides didn't work. Red one worked half day then they turn it off. Big waiting line for the orange one. Plus you are standing on hot metal floor. Pool that is going around like river is overcrowded and slow. Olimpic pool is great and not busy at all. Wave pool sucks... It only works for 10-15 every hour or so. Plus all kids rush there and only one life guard. Pool with massagers only works like one side at the time and then other... Only 2 sides work 3 one doesn't. Plenty of parking space and more than enough place in shadows. Bring your own food and drinks. Food sucks and it cost around 10 euros price in pictures.
Luka S — Google review
Terme are good, pools etc. But don't eat there in fast food, total robbery, old food, was feeling 2 days bad when I ate there, avoid!
Myrak O — Google review
The new mobile homes at the camp are nice and well equipped, even though very close to each other. However, the pools are disappointing. It's basically a local pool with a few slides and a wave pool (which runs only like 10 minutes every hour). The lazy river is useless as it's extremely slow. The water is fairly clean, but the whole place generally looks like spraying things with a water hose now and then would keep them in a better shape. The complex is obviously rundown and barely maintained. The designers of the water slides didn't do a very good job either. Some of the enclosed slides feel claustrophobic (total darkness in large sections or it's a very narrow tube so you feel like sliding in a straw). We also got stuck a couple of times in the middle of the slides where you have to use a rubber tube. The guard just didn't care and sent other people into the slide. A fuse box on the dive tower is like 3m from water and it was open for half a day during our stay. The slides and dive tower open at 11AM, so don't expect to have fun there the day of checkout. The minigolf course looks closed and very old. I expected a better maintained facility with more attractions for the price. It's certainly the oldest and worst maintained water park I've ever been to.
Vladimír K — Google review
We booked a bungalow which was okay, albeit a little bit dirty. The entrance door looked like it got broken in once. Bathroom wasn't something special as well. The rooms seem to be in need of restoration. Staff was mostly friendly though. The Thermal Baath was a total disaster. It could be better described as local pool. There are only three warm little pools. The whole building is in dire need of renovation, as could be seen by the meany broken tiles inside and missing tile grout. The Sauna Park was just a little room with a few saunas and a cool-off pool, which was to warm for my liking. The whole sauna room was not that well separated from the main area and offered no place to relax. There should have been a huge outdoor area with many watersides and additional pools which was closed due to the weather. Problem being, that no one will tell you this in advance, so you will be disappointed at arrival. I cant tell much about the food, as we only ate breakfast there. Breakfast was okay, nothing exceptional. If you plan on spending a relaxing weekend as a couple, you will be better off somewhere else.
Florian D — Google review
Regarding the fact that Slovenia is a land of thermal baths, Terme Ptuj really undermines that. The infrastructure is very shabby, the cleanliness level are poor and the price-quality is not fair. Saunas are small and dirty and there is no ambiance. This is a good local pool and not a Thermal Park by fair. Hopefully they will redeem by renovating their services and infrastructure, because I surely won't be going back if they stay as they are.

Pyramid

Historical landmark

Geologic Formations
Pyramid is a small hill in Maribor, featuring a winding path that leads to a chapel at the top. The climb offers views of tiny vineyards and the city below. While there are few trees for shade along the way, reaching the summit rewards visitors with an extraordinary panoramic view. The hill also holds historical significance, with visible ruins of an old castle.
Piramida in Maribor is a hill (386 m above sea level) above the city of Maribor in Slovenia, which is a popular excursion spot and offers a beautiful view of the city and the surrounding countryside. The climb up the Piramida is easy and takes about 20-30 minutes from the centre of Maribor. On top of the hill stood the medieval Maribor Castle, which was built in the 12th century. The castle was destroyed in 1784 and a chapel was built in its place, which still stands there today. Today the hill is covered with vineyards, which is typical for this region of Slovenia.
Jaroslav H — Google review
One of the small hills bordering Maribor city to the north. It is called Pyramid due to its steep slopes which are now covered by a vineyard and a forest. The hill is significant for being the site of a previous medieval Maribor/Marburg fortress, the remnants of which are today an archeological site. A rather large chapel now stands at the hilltop, visible from afar. The viewpoint is excellent if one wants to look at the whole city, examine Pohorje mountain and have a glance southeast towards Croatia. I give a lower grade because the area should be maintained better with some urban landscaping and without litter around.
Vanja Z — Google review
The track offered a pleasant walking experience, with the city skyline and majestic mountains providing a stunning backdrop. The pyramid was an incredibly amusing and memorable destination to explore.
Yadun M — Google review
It's free and if you have time do hike up to the top. It's a nice view from top. The walk is about 15-20 minutes from the parking lot. The parking is free on sundays. You can not go by car all the way to the top. You have a 20 min walk to the top.
Domagoj P — Google review
Nice view over city. You walk through vineyard to the top of the hill, it’s not a long walk. I wish little light bulbs that are over vineyards are turned on in the evening, it would probably be much better experience.
Vladana I — Google review
There is a bit of hike to get there, because the shortest path is currently closed, but once you are up there you will be rewarded by a beautiful view.
Kol2388 — Google review
nice walk and view but nothing else on top. They must put something on top.more with attraction. Archeological finding looks abandoned and not completed
T G — Google review
There is a small chapel at the top of this hill, you can see it as you go up.. The path to the top is winding which makes it easy to climb without losing your breath. You pass some tiny vineyards on your way, and most of the way there is no tree cover for shade. I counted 2, and I stopped at the last tree as it was super hot.. but wherever I reached the view was amazing and extraordinary.. would have been really nice if they added some benches for people to sit and breath the air and enjoy the moment! the view is nice and you'll probably have this place to yourself, so you can enjoy some peace and quiet. Cars and bikes are not allowed, so it’s a walking distance.. if you walk all the way from the town, there’s no sidewalk on the street so.. stay safe!

Old Vine House in Maribor is home to the oldest grape vine in the world, boasting over 400 years of history and recognized by the Guinness Book of Records. Originally part of the town's defensive wall, it has become a major tourist attraction. The house serves as a tribute to the wine traditions of Maribor and Slovenia, featuring an exhibition room that showcases the country's rich wine heritage and offers tastings of exceptional wines from the Stajerska wine region.
We visited spontaniously this place in Maribor on our way bay home to Hungary. It is amazing to know that the world’s oldest living vine is about 400 years old and it is in Slovenia very close to the Hungarian border. We took part in a small wine-tasting session, too. It was an excellent program. I advise you to discover the old town of Maribor. It is super cozy and cute to take a walk there. And the Old Vine House is also very close to the city centre.
Lilla K — Google review
We almost always go here for a wine tasting whenever we are in town. Go take a stroll through the display room, before you decide what kind of wine tasting you want to have. They use a tiered approach, so you can have young wines, medium or aged wines or a mixed selection. After you've been to to display room, you can point out which ones you want to try and avoid having to go through any that won't be to your liking. Service personel is well trained and can help you out if you are not as experienced in the regional wines, so don't be shy and just ask for help when you need it.
Oliver L — Google review
Really wonderful place made better by the staff. Clement walked us through 8 wines we tasted and was as knowledgeable and pleasay as you can imagine. People come to take a picture of the oldest vine in the world. They should stay for the wine.
Mark P — Google review
Tried orange wine for the first time in Maribor, Slovenia — a peaceful spot by the world’s oldest grapevine (over 400 years old). The wine was soft with a lovely floral aroma. I really enjoyed it! The area is accessible, but the cobblestone paths make it a bit tricky for wheelchair users.

Terme Olimia D.D. offers a range of 4-star hotels in the charming town of Podcetrtek, Slovenia. Wellness Hotel Sotelia provides easy access to Wellness Centre Termalija and Spa Armonia, while Hotel Breza focuses on health and well-being with its Center zdravja facilities and Termalija Relax and Thermal Park Aqualuna swimming pools. Additionally, guests can enjoy a fitness studio for physical activities.
One of the best thermal spa experiences in Europe in terms of value for money! We’ve been here many times, and every visit has been amazing. Everything is so well-organized — clean, convenient, and beautifully maintained. The thermal areas are thoughtfully designed, and the water truly feels healing and restorative. We’re currently visiting a thermal spa in Budapest, and it made us realize once again just how much we love Slovenian spas. There’s a unique warmth and comfort here that we haven’t found elsewhere. This place is one of our all-time favorites — we keep coming back and always leave feeling refreshed. If you’re looking for a high-quality thermal experience, with real healing waters and a relaxing atmosphere — this is absolutely the place to go!
Sasha — Google review
The place is overhyped. We went there for a weekend with children and didn't have such a great time. The prices for the quality of service, available entertainment and cleanliness are too high. Swimming pools were way too warm for summertime and we had to exit them to actually cool off. Restaurant has a horrible quality of food with unspeakably low quality of ingredients. This goes for the restaurant which is accessible from the pool area, not the one in the hotel. Of course you're not allowed to bring in your own food. The whole area could use a proper cleaning because there was dust and other dirts all around the place. Purchase of family ticket is overcomplicated process because you need to make a reservation online which is then canceled upon arrival and you're issued a discounted family ticket. The family ticket isn't available online for purchase. They extra charge access to every separate area which is confusing for users and increases the price significantly, especially if you're coming with a family. There is no good road to access the location and you need to travel over Hills and country roads which have their fair share of ups and downs left and rights. Children who have sensitive stomachs will not appreciate the trip.
Goran H — Google review
Great for small kids. There's a lot of entertainment for them - various pools, small slides and kids club. Not so great for older children, over 6 or 7 years, let's say. The best thing for them are the arcade room and rock climbing wall in one of the pools. Only two slides that are on the second floor. There's a sand pool. Sounds weird but it's a lot of fun for toddlers. It's a heated shallow pool full of sand and toys for them to play. Food is great. Lots of local dishes and ingredients. They have a pizza oven so there's various pizzas every night. The staff is great. Prices are ok. We stayed at Breza hotel, which is ok. A bit older with small rooms and bathrooms. I would give it 4,5 stars if i could. I didn't like the fact that you have to leave the indoor pool to another room so you can enter the outdoor pool. There are two sand pools, one didn't work the entire time, so the water in there was really cold. You had to go through it to get to the one that was working and since they are adjacent, kids would sometimes accidentally fall in. Also, the shower for washing the feet after leaving didn't work. Those are easy fixes so it didn't bother us. Didn't visit the Orchidelia part, because it's adults only. Overall, a very fun and modern spa.
Miloš B — Google review
Here everybody can find something interesting to do - swimming, watergames, toboggans, cycling around (some ways are separated, check which), nice castles nearby, shops and caffe bars are not missing. Very nice place for famillies. Personally I prefer the new swimming pool in hotel Breza, new facilities, nice floors, 4 pools with different temperatures, clean toillets, caffe and drink machines, automatic food ordering… Check some places around - Podcetrtek willage with castle above and perfect sight, Rogatec with nice castle, Rogaska Slatina - an old famous Spa, Smarje pri Jelsah with high Calvary and nice museum below…up to your choice.
Vuk D — Google review
Very quiet, very warm and very calm experience. I will come back again for sure. Waitress is very kind and friendly, and whole experience is very positive.
Goran Z — Google review
Unfortunately, our experience with the food was far below expectations. The problems are evident already in the quality of the ingredients, which appear to be chosen at the lowest possible level. Even the coffee did not meet the most basic standard. Overall, the gastronomic offering leaves a very poor impression and significantly undermines the overall experience. I believe it is urgent to redefine both the quality and the concept of your food service in order to match the level of service and ambience you otherwise provide.

My family and I stayed at this thermal hotel last year and again this year. The quality and variety of breakfast and dinner, as well as the room service, had slightly declined compared to last year, but we still had a wonderful time. The staff, just like before, were friendly and respectful.

The most underrated wellness i have been to. Its big, beautiful and the staff is very nice. Jodi for meditation was great. Cant believe it has only 4 stars, should have much more.

Great spa but avoid the food, we had a club sandwich where the chicken smelled terrible and we had to send it back. Would go again for a relaxing day but lunch at the hotel or elsewhere.
Mark B — Google review
Great Spa experience! Price of a day pass on the weekends is 60€ per person and they provide you with a bathrobe and two big towels in a big bag so you can carry it around, I loved the bag for convenience (bring your own pool slippers!). The indoor/outdoor pool area is really nice, the water was really warm and everything was nice and clean. We were here on a Saturday and were worried that it would be crowded but that wasn't the case. The sauna area is what I enjoyed the most. With the Orhidelia pass we could also enter the Termalia spa zone. There are 5 saunas in the Orhidelia section and at least 10 more in the Termalia section. There were also a lot of organized programs in the saunas (relax program, towel whirling show) which was a nice surprise. The cold pools after the sauna were my favorite. In this whole sauna area there are no bathing suit allowed, so if you're shy this might not be the place for you, but you get used to it pretty quickly. The staff is also very polite and helpful.
Andrea A — Google review
Unfortunately very unfriendly personal at the reception. They denied us the access to the wellness center Orhidelia, unjustified, on the 6th of January because od some public Holliday in Austria. It is not obligatory to reserve wellness access upfront, particularly not on normal working week days as today in Slovenia. We drove 110km, took a day off work and bought the access to the wellness upfront online. I fell miserably and unfairly treated at the reception. Do you deny access also to your Italian, Austrian and Croatian guests? I will never return as a guest again.

The best wellness place in all Slovenia and wider. Very wide choice of saunas, specially like the adult part, no small children to anoy you. Hygiene at very high level. I highly recommend it. Its very nice for couples. My favourite one is the music pool where you can hear music while you lay in shallow water. Just amazing. For sure will wisit it again.
Darko K — Google review
The spa’s interior is beautiful but for this price is way too expensive. It has two floors but you can only use the ground with swim dresses on, the first floor is the NAKED area including the saunas and some pools. When we bought the tickets nobody warned us and this information is not available on the internet as well. Many people change to naked in front of you even on the first floor. Sorry but I don’t want to see it! The pools temperature is okey 38celsius but there is no any warmer pool not even the jacuzzi. For a 5 star, premium spa I expected more!

Located in the small village of Olimje, the Olimje Monastery was originally built as a Renaissance-style castle around 1550. Now home to hospitable Franciscan monks, the monastery boasts a 17th-century pharmacy adorned with religious and medical scenes. The monks grow their own herbs and medicinal plants on-site, offering visitors access to them. Additionally, the monastery features a Baroque church with an impressive altar and a well-maintained herb garden.
A stunningly beautiful place. The interior of the church is truly spectacular. The apothecary shop is fascinating too - cures for all ailments.

Beautiful building with an interesting history that can be read on the website. There was a wedding being hosted on the day so we weren't able to visit inside but the cafe across the street is good and do a good selection of drinks. Their homemade lemonade is worth trying, very refreshing

Beautiful church, must see if you're in the neighbourhood. The farmacy, which is within the monastery, offers a range of herbal medicine to treat whatever may be causing you trouble

Nice, well maintained monastery. It has a beautiful herbs garden, an old apothecary where the monks sold their plant based medicine, and a not-that-big church, but richly ornamented with ornaments fit for a cathedral.

Brežice Castle, located in Slovenia, is home to the Posavje Museum, boasting rich archaeological and ethnographic collections. The castle's architecture is a sight to behold, with stunning fresco-filled Knights Hall on display. The museum offers temporary and permanent exhibitions on various subjects across two floors. Visitors can admire fabulous paintings adorning the ceilings and walls of the main hall.
Excellent. The written history of Brežice Castle goes back to the middle of the 13th century, when the castrum Rain first appears in written sources, but it was undoubtedly built earlier. The original castle building was most likely a wooden fort that served the administrative and defensive purposes of the Archdiocese of Salzburg, which owned the territory in the triangle between Sava and Sotla since the 11th century.

Absolutely amazing castle, with friendly and professional staff! I performed my first European piano concert here! I will always treasure the memories! Thank you for making my dreams come true!

Small but very interesting museum, history of Slovenija in short, mostly ordinary stuff, used by ordinary people in every day activities. Informative overview of the activities of the Slovenian resistance movement in the fight against fascism during World War II.

Brežice Castle in Slovenia is an ideal destination for families and tourists. The castle has remarkable paintings and murals. The museum inside offers a look into different eras with its collection of artifacts. Although some parts are closed off, the wealth of culture and unique artistry make Brežice Castle a worthwhile visit for all.
Bertil S — Google review
It is one of the few castles in Slovenia that still looks like a proper castle inside. The main hall with the fresco walls was definitely the best. But of course it is still a museum filled with old and modern artifacts in the other rooms.
Nathaly S — Google review
The castle was a beautiful one in architecture and structure. On the 1st floor, a temporary exhibition and on the 2nd floor permanent exhibitions offered beautiful stuff based on various subjects. The main hall has fabulous paintings on the ceiling and walls. In my opinion, the beauty of those paintings was not shown obviously in the photos.

Celje Castle, located on a hill, offers sweeping valley views and a glimpse into medieval history. It was the permanent residence of the influential counts of Celje, making it historically significant in Slovenia. Visitors can explore exhibits about the castle's history and the counts of Celje, with interactive displays and small exhibitions inside. The Princely Palace in downtown Celje provides further insight into this influential dynasty. Additionally, visitors can enjoy a quaint cafe within the castle complex while taking in the beautiful surroundings.
interesting castle from 1400. Very nice history. If you have time, totally recommend it. It's better to go by car, there is a bus but having a car is really recommended. Some can hike as well from the city center.

Amazing castle with lovely views. The best part of visiting was a man who was explaining the history of print and did a preformance how in the past people were doing it. For 8€ you could get your personal cusomized souvenire! Be careful on the forest path that leads to castle - it is not as easy as they say!

Worth a visit. The ticket price is appropriate. You should go early in the morning, then it's hot, or go in the afternoon when the temperature low. The torture dungeon is interesting. The view from the tower is superb. Parking is free.

Beautiful old castle. The staff were really fun and had games etc. for the kids. They loved running around the grounds. We were there around 10am and it was really quiet. But when we were leaving (after 1.5hrs as there is so much to see) it was getting more busy. The view from the very top is incredible, the story behind the castle just as good.

Amazing museum both in magnificent building itself and museum exhibition that is representing local history of Celje from the earliest times, "in situ" presentation of remnants of the Roman times settlement Celeia, middle ages and mighty family of the Counts of Celje, but also extraordinary objects from Asia from various collections and equally interesting exhibition about famous Celje born world traveler and writer Alma Karlin and her etnographic collections from various parts of the world. Also here you'll find the famous Celje ceiling that is captivating in it's own beauty! This museum that is arranged between two main buildings is absolute must when visiting this beautiful city! Museum staff was very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable!

Celje Regional Museum has been collecting, protecting and representing the cultural heritage of Celje for over 130 years. A comprehensive view of the history and culture of the Celje region is offered in two central city exhibition venues (Prince’s Mansion and the Old Landgrave’s House) An exciting one among the permanent exhibitions is the Paths of Alma M. Karlin exhibition. Here, you can travel with the most prominent Celje-based traveller in history. In the Old Landgrave’s House, you will see the breathtakingly mysterious Celje Ceiling painting commissioned by the Counts of Thurn-Valsassina at the passage from the Renaissance to the Baroque. The Old Landgrave’s House is the second (and the original) Celje Regional Museum’s exhibition area. The Renaissance style in which it is built is evident by its vaulted outer corridors running on two floors where the original owners, the Counts of Thurn-Valsassina, once walked. Along its southern facade, the Old Landgrave’s House overlooks the Savinja River.

Must visit site when You are in Velenje area. 👌I visited some mining museums but this is totally unique experience. Guide was former miner so the interpretation was personal. Museum is part of the still running coal mining company. Do not eat before entering museum. They have very nice surprise for You. 👌

A phenomenal experience that I will remember for the rest of my life. The museum is exceptionall. It is located in a special part of an active mine. The guide is outstanding, explains everything very well, and adds extra value to the whole experience.

Really nice, authentic experience, more then 150m down by elevator. We recommend. Photo is forbidden. Path is dry, no water, no mud. Tickets is better book before, English exhibition is only few times a day. You will receive a snack too 👌

Absolutely amazing place to go! The tour was really extraordinary and I'm happy for being part of the coal miners team for a moment. It's definetely a must see place in Velenje! And nearby is the beautiful lake, so be sure you jump there too.
Karolína D — Google review
Was there twice in a week with a group of camp kids. Excellent museum, really fascinating, it gives a great look into the life of coal miners. One thing that bothered me a bit was that both guides spoke really fast and sometimes you couldn't follow their explanation. Ten to twelve people in a group is, by my opinion, maximum number for a good experience. All in all, a thing very much worth taking time for.
Niko K — Google review
Visited the Coal Mining Museum, I honestly didn’t think I would enjoy it, but I did! Once you get your tickets, your guide will tell u to get a locker and out all your belongings inside. Your bags, purses and phones. Once that is done, you’ll be asked to put on a mining jacket and a hard hat. They also give you a hotdog and juice to eat as a break. Each piece of food goes goes in each pocket. An elevator takes u down and that’s when the tour begins. Lots of walking, story telling from our guide. No pictures are allowed in the mining tour. I actually loved it. It’s so different! It’s a must see.

We visited Mozirski Gaj during the May Day holidays. The day was made for enjoyment and a relaxed walk in the beautiful park. The park is clean and well maintained. Inside the park there is a cafe for refreshments. There is an entrance fee, but it's worth a visit. There are enough parking spaces around the park. Highly recommended for a relaxed walk at any time of the year.

We visited the park yesterday and had such a wonderful time! At first it seemed a bit small, but it turned out to be a truly fun and magical experience. I imagine it’s even more beautiful in spring or during winter when it’s decorated for Christmas. The place has a fairytale charm and is definitely worth a visit. The only downside is that tickets can only be purchased with cash, as cards are not accepted. Other than that, it was an amazing experience!
Bjanka S — Google review
A very beautiful and well-maintained park. Entrance is paid, in my opinion nine euros. Only cash is accepted for payment. There are many beautiful trees and flowers on the territory of the park, everything looks very beautiful. There is a cafe on site, but payment is only in cash as well. There is an observation deck, as well as a picturesque river.

Museum Liaunig, located on the border of Carinthia and Slovenia in Neuhaus/Suha, is a private art museum housing an extensive collection of Austrian art from 1945 onwards as well as classic modern art and international artists' work. The museum's construction and its owner Herbert Liaunig's story add to its allure, which can be explored through guided tours. The exhibitions mainly feature unique one-of-a-kind objects rather than traditional canvas paintings.
Wonderful museum, both the collection and the architecture. It's worth taking a guided tour first, they do that very well.
Edwin G — Google review
Interesting collection of arts. I really enjoyed the above the ground area that reminds me of the landscape from the teletubbies show.
Ondrej P — Google review
Museum Liaunig is a striking blend of modern architecture and contemporary art, set in the peaceful Carinthian landscape. Mostly built into a hillside, the building itself is a work of art. Inside, you’ll find an impressive collection of post-1950 art, rare African gold artifacts, and beautifully curated exhibitions. A unique and inspiring place—well worth the visit!
CrazyB0 — Google review
What makes this museum interesting is the story behind its construction and the owner, and how everything came together to make it possible. You can get all this detail with a guided tour. You do have to be interested in funky, off beat 'art' pieces as there are few 'classic' canvas paintings and mostly unique one-of-a-kind objects. If you're into modern art objects and impressively constructed spacious galleries you'll likely enjoy the ~2 hour experience. The outdoor exhibition is also worth the time. There is no curator the way most museums have but the guide we had was very knowledgeable and had many stories and entertaining anecdotes to tell along the way. The museum is out of the way and requires a country drive to reach it from one of the cities in the province of Carinthia. It's located very near the Slovenian border. Pick a sunny day to stroll the grounds. The day I was there we were a large group (special arrangements) and we were also able to attend a recital put on by 3 violinists and a cellist, although you'll need to check if anything like this is on when you plan to go.

One of the most beautiful places in Slovenia) We climbed the Rivka waterfall in the spring (when it's warm and the mountain tops are still snow-capped😍) and then rested in the valley itself. Unfortunately, we didn't have bicycles with us, but we did have a scooter🙂.

An absolutely fairytale-like spot, with scenery that feels almost Swiss — at times even Norwegian. The valley is breathtaking, with sharp color contrasts and sweeping mountain views. There’s plenty of space to walk around or ride a bike, and the road leads straight to the waterfall trail, which is an easy 15-minute walk. Definitely a place where you’ll want to linger, because the views are just unreal.

10€ per car for entry. The various parking spaces within the valley are then included. Worth it if you take the time to enjoy the valley. Take the time to walk the various trails, have some local food and see Rinka Waterfall at the end, or perhaps climb further to the mountains from there. Saw some cute highland cows too.

Castles
Perched on a rocky outcrop in the heart of a picturesque plain, Hochosterwitz Castle is a medieval marvel with a history dating back over 1,000 years. This imposing fortress boasts 14 defensive gates and offers panoramic views of Slovenia and East Austria from its elevated position. The castle's walls and crenellations wind their way up the mount, leading to the formidable fortress at its summit.
It’s an absolute gem! Perched dramatically on a hilltop, it offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. The climb up through its 14 fortified gates is a unique experience, and the well-preserved architecture makes you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. Inside, the small museum and charming courtyards add to the castle’s historic charm. It’s a must-visit for anyone who loves history, stunning landscapes, and fairytale-like castles!

A powerful castle from the outside, the view is wonderful from the top. But the fee is very high for basically nothing, one room and a restaurant, even the most basic shops, we were surprised and not in a good way, we have already been to castles with a lot of investment that had something to see...
טל פ — Google review
Hochosterwitz Castle stands as a magnificent testament to medieval architecture, perched atop a 150-meter-high dolomite rock in Launsdorf, Austria. Its commanding location not only offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding Carinthian landscape but also highlights its historical significance as a strategic fortress designed to withstand sieges and invasions over centuries. Visitors often describe the journey to the castle as an integral part of the experience, with the walk up offering spectacular scenery and a sense of anticipation, although the castle can also be accessed via a funicular for those who prefer an easier ascent. The castle's defining feature is its series of 14 fortified gates, each representing a different aspect of medieval defensive architecture. These gates, which served as formidable obstacles for invaders, are a major highlight, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the castle’s rich military history. Walking through these gates not only provides insight into medieval siege tactics but also amplifies the sense of stepping back into a time of knights and battlements. The structure’s well-preserved architecture, including towers, battlements, and defensive walls, underscores its importance as a resilient stronghold during the Ottoman invasions and other historical conflicts. Inside, the castle boasts a collection of medieval weaponry and armor, as well as a museum that showcases its layered history. The interior spaces, including a castle chapel, armory, and various courtyards, reflect a blend of functional military design and past aristocratic lifestyles. The armory, in particular, is a fascinating display of medieval warfare, while the castle’s panoramic vantage points provide stunning views of the lush Carinthian landscape, emphasizing its military and scenic importance. Visitors often remark on the unique experience offered by exploring these historic interiors, which are complemented by occasional displays of contemporary art integrated into the historic setting. The history of Hochosterwitz dates back to its first mention in 860 AD. The castle was fortified extensively in the 16th century, notably under the patronage of the Khevenhüller family, transforming it into one of the most formidable military bastions of its time. The castle is set in a beautiful natural surrounding and is impressive through the number of gates you have to go through to enter it (or conquer it in the Middle Ages). The tickets are quite expensive (we paid 77 euro for a family of 3 with one-way lift access included). If you purchase 2-way lift access, they are going to be more expensive. You can also climb and descend on foot, in which case the tickets will be a little cheaper. There were 2 exhibitions in the main castle: a permanent one, which looked a bit dusty and old-school, telling the history of the castle and the family owning it. The temporary exhibition was dedicated to Leonardo da Vinci, and costed extra. There are also a restaurant serving local specialties, toilets and a gift shop. Most defense towers and gates are either permanently closed or under renovation, so they cannot be visited. You can have some amazing views of the surrounding areas from the top level.
Marius Z — Google review
Entry is a bit pricier, but the castle is totally worth it. The walk to the top is easy, no need to take the lift (except for visitors with health impairment). Adequate parking right by the gate. Restaurant at the top was a pleasant surprise, decent food and prices not through the roof. The place was not super crowded and you can comfortably buy tickets at the spot.
Tondo P — Google review
A special place where the ancient history still lives on. Could get 5 stars when the museum becomes updated. The views are stunning. The food is also good and affordable considering the location. Can however be difficult to find a parking.
Harald — Google review
The medieval castle is one of the most beautiful in Austria. You can take the elevator, or you can hike up, which takes about 30 minutes.
ЭЛЛИ Ш — Google review
Beautiful castle, free parking nearby but you need a ticket to even start walking to it. It is worth it though

Sights & Landmarks
Dragon Bridge, also known as Zmajski Most, is a pedestrian-friendly art nouveau bridge in Ljubljana, built in 1900. It is famous for its series of dragon statues that guard either side of the bridge and smaller griffins adorning its lamp posts. The bridge spans the Ljublanica river and is a popular spot for tourists to take photos due to its remarkable dragon sculptures modeled after the city's coat of arms.
We loved visiting Ljubljana and seeing the Dragon Bridge. Such a wide variety of things to do and see. Highly recommend the City Hotel and we enjoyed dining at Most restaurant.
Steve F — Google review
Ljubljana's Dragon Bridge in Slovenia is an iconic representation of Art Nouveau architecture, drawing visitors from far and wide. The bridge's four imposing dragon statues, one at each corner, command attention. Strategically located in Ljubljana's historic center, the bridge crosses the Ljubljanica River, facilitating social exchange. Fascinating local myths surround the bridge and its dragons, such as the story that the dragons acknowledge a virgin's crossing with a subtle movement. The concrete bridge has earned the colloquial nickname 'mother-in-law' from some locals, who find the dragons' fiery demeanor both captivating and intimidating. The Dragon Bridge, a masterpiece designed by Slovenian Jurij Zaninovic, stands as a testament to the city's resilience. This stunning Art Nouveau bridge was dedicated to the 40th anniversary of Hapsburg Emperor Franz Josef's reign, with the dates 1848-1888 elegantly inscribed on its side. A symbol of hope and renewal, the bridge honors the emperor's contributions to the city's revitalization after the devastating 1895 earthquake. Conveniently located, the bridge is within walking distance of iconic landmarks like Ljubljana Cathedral, Ljubljana Castle, and the vibrant Ljubljana Central Market.

The Dragon Bridge in Ljubljana is one of the city's most iconic landmarks, symbolizing Ljubljana's identity. It is located in Ljubljana's city center over the Ljubljanica River. The bridge is famous for its four large bronze dragon statues—two at each end—and sixteen smaller dragons decorating the bridge's span.
Kevin A — Google review
Definitely my favorite bridge in all of Europe, because I love dragons. And this was very close and walkable to my hotel and in the center of everything there is to do in town definitely worth a stop and it even is the site of a geocache.
Jeff C — Google review
Nothing too special on its own, but the dragon statues are iconic and symbolic to Ljubljana. Definitely worth a quick stop and a photo if you’re exploring the city.
J — Google review
Impressive dragons decorate this Art Nouveau bridge that was built between 1900 and 1901 and the first with a reinforced concrete structure in town. The story goes that the dragons are tied to the Greek myth of Jason and the Argonauts, who are said to have founded Ljubljana and slain a dragon nearby.
Seimen B — Google review
Beautiful large green dragon statues built in 1901. Locals say tshe dragons wag their tails when a virgin crosses the bridge (a fun old joke among residents).
Snippets — Google review
It's a bridge with Dragons on it. We counted at least 20. Good place for a photo. Some people may say its crowded but I'd say it has atmosphere with people stopping to take photographs or passing by as they head to the nearby cafes and restaurants.

The apartment is easy to find after arriving at the bus station. Across the bridge is The Central market and all the places are at walking distance. Lot of eating place around. Apartment is cozy, clean, comfortable and very quiet. Will definitely recommend to friends. Stay: 8-11 October 2019

Great central location, great service. The staff were very responsive to help us with any issues. The room is compact and comfortable. The kitchen is a bit of a tight squeeze but is well equipped.
Eleanor T — Google review
Great location and great price. Everything you'd need. The bedroom is separate to the main room and it has a kitchenette, it is centrally located too with a large choice of bars and restaurants close by. Even though they are close we never had any noise problems. I don't think I would go back to Ljubljana again as I think I have experienced everything it has to offer but if I did go back I would stay here again.

U will not find a better location for a city tour. Great starting place for exploring the city, especially old town. Yet, noise levels at night are very low. No problem getting sleep here. We had Appartment 2 - it had everything we hoped for.

Saint Nicholas's Cathedral, also known as Ljubljana Cathedral or the Church of St. Nicholas, is a Roman Catholic cathedral with a baroque interior featuring gilded columns and ceiling frescoes. The cathedral is an iconic part of Ljubljana's skyline and boasts an ornate bronze side door that depicts centuries of Slovenian and Ljubljana's Catholic history.
Lovely big cathedral in the heart of Ljubljana if you want to listen at mass you don’t have pay if not you must pay a small feee to enter. Highly advised to go to Sunday mass at 6pm is magical…. Photos are restricted

St. Nicholas’ Church in Ghent is really impressive! This old stone church stands tall in the city center, looking strong and beautiful. Inside, the high ceilings and big stained-glass windows are so pretty. The organ is huge and cool to see, even if it’s not playing. It’s free to enter, which is awesome, and it’s not too crowded. The history feels alive with all the old details around you. I loved the calm and peaceful vibe inside. It’s great for a quick visit to soak in some beauty and history. The location makes it easy to stop by while exploring Ghent. Definitely worth checking out!

Beautiful cathedral and beautiful pipe organ. My son got a one in a lifetime opportunity to Ply the 100 yr old organ because of the kindness of the church staff. Thank you.

This has to be one of the most beautiful cathedral in Slovenia? Beautiful paintings and the interior is superb! I was recommended by a stranger to visit and we did , entrance fee is €3 per person and definitely worth it
J — Google review
Unfortunately, we couldn't get ilas it was closed for tourists on that exact day, so I couldn't compare to other to other cathedrals. The outside architecture isn't that impressive (in my opinion), but there were some interesting ornaments and details.

Worth it for the 3 euros entry fee. Note that it is open during certain times of specific days. For Sunday's it's open from 10 to 1 and 4.45 to 8 (around that time)

What a magnificent cathedral with such rich history. The inside of the church was simply magnificent. The place also had a lot of peace, calm and serenity to offer to connect and say thank you with gratitude to whichever Gods or religion you pray to

Ljubljana Castle, a medieval fortress towering over the townhouses below, offers a captivating journey through history and culture. Visitors can ascend to the castle via a glass cube and explore its first-rate museums, including the Virtual Castle showcasing its development, an exhibition on Slovene history with insights into socialist Yugoslavia and the Ten-Day War, and the Museum of Puppetry. The stocky Clock Tower provides unparalleled views of the old town and distant Kamniske Alps.
Great castle experience! The funicular ride up is convenient and fun. Lots to explore once you’re there, with something for everyone. The puppet museum was a fantastic surprise - definitely don’t miss it. Highly recommended! The view from the clock tower is amazing.
Giacomo B — Google review
I'm disappointed. It's not worth the 15 euros. The only thing you have to pay for is to climb the flag tower. All the exhibition halls contain mostly textual information that can be found on Wikipedia. So, essentially, you can come here for free, stroll around the castle square without a ticket, and enjoy the tour. The castle grounds are also beautiful. I recommend walking up the hill instead of taking the funicular. It's a good workout! And be prepared to pay for the restrooms, even if you have a ticket. Overall, it's worth a visit, but without buying a ticket.
Roman B — Google review
The history of a fortess on this site go back to the 11th century but the castle that stands here today was built under Frederick III of Habsburg as a stronghold against the Ottoman Empire. The beautiful decorated St George's Chapel dates from this time. It was extensively renovated over decades using lots of concrete as you can see all around. There is not much to be seen of the old csstle. Left and right were some interesting details like the old prison and the small armoury. When you climb the tower via the double red winding stairs you get a nice view over the city. Entry to the castle is easiest with the funicular which is included in the ticket price.
Seimen B — Google review
A historic castle overseeing the City of Ljubljana. The view is absolutely splendid and one can have a 360 view of the whole City from the viewpoints at the castle walls. It's well maintained with little museums located within the castle. There's also a wine bar and a lovely restaurant. One can choose to walk up to the place or simply take a funicular ride to the top. There's also a small parking lot right in front of the entry door to the castle.
Haris D — Google review
Easy to get to ...funicular is a 1 minute ride. Castle is now theater. galleries, museum, restaurant plus the castle itself with nice viewing tower. Area of improvement is the signage. As the signs were not clear I just couldn't find the puppet museum which was the main reason of my visit.
John C — Google review
Great views and atmosphere - but pricey if you’re going inside! Ljubljana Castle is definitely worth walking up to, even if you don’t buy the ticket. I didn’t go inside, but the views from the outside areas, the courtyard, and the paths around the hill are fantastic for photos, especially near sunset. The castle itself looks beautiful and well-preserved, and the walk up is quick and enjoyable. The only downside is the €15 ticket price (as of Nov 2025), which feels a bit high compared to similar castles. I’m guessing it’s partly because it includes the funicular and helps support ongoing renovations and events - but still, it’s a lot if you just want a short visit. Overall, a must-see spot for views and atmosphere, even without paying to enter.
Manu — Google review
Beautifully preserved castle with stunning panoramic views over Ljubljana. The mix of history, architecture, and modern exhibitions makes it a must-see. The walk up is lovely, and the tower viewpoint is absolutely worth it. A perfect blend of culture, scenery, and atmosphere.
Cosmin P — Google review
The city's most important attraction. It's impressive. From the top of the castle tower, we can admire the city panorama. The ticket price includes entry to the tower and exhibition hall, as well as a ride down the funicular. I highly recommend it.

Prešeren Square is a bustling pedestrian hub and popular meeting place in Ljubljana, Slovenia. It holds historical significance as it was once the meeting point for several roads and an old entrance gate to the city. Named after Slovenia's national poet France Prešeren, the square features a large statue of him and hosts concerts and events during the summer.
Beautiful main square of the city centre. Truly enjoyed the bridges and the wonderful art installation of rain. Bustling with people but a lovely atmosphere. Try to get yourself a free walking tour to explain further the importance of the square and the history behind it.

This is a charming square that is the starting point for all the streets and alleys of the old city. There are lots of charming restaurants around with a relaxed atmosphere along the banks of the river. The beauty and cultural richness are evident from every angle. It's fun to wander and get lost here.
Charlie B — Google review

Prešeren Square is one of the most beautiful and lively places in Ljubljana. It’s surrounded by charming architecture and connected to the famous Triple Bridge (Tromostovje), which adds a unique and picturesque touch to the area. The square is impressively clean and well-maintained, making it a pleasant spot for a walk or a break. There are many cozy cafes around where you can sit, relax, and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere. The place is always full of life, with both locals and tourists passing by, which gives it a special, dynamic energy. Definitely a must-visit when in Slovenia!
Anđelka J — Google review
1 | Prešernov trg is the central square of Ljubljana, named after the Slovenian national poet France Prešeren, whose statue stands at its center. Surrounded by important landmarks like the Franciscan Church and Triple Bridge, the square is a key meeting point and pedestrian hub in the city. 2 | A unique attraction in the square is "The Area with Ljubljana's Own Weather." It’s a spot in the middle of the round square where it’s always raining, and there’s even a traffic sign warning you about it. There aren’t many trees or shade in the square, so it gets really hot in the summer. The city addressed this by installing a water mist system. One of the artists then placed a traffic sign next to the wet pavement featuring an umbrella and a cloud. 3 | The square also features the Statue of France Prešeren, a Slovenian poet who stirred quite a bit of controversy in the first half of the 19th century. The statue itself has also been controversial, as it includes a depiction of a bare female chest. This is visible from the church in the square, which didn’t sit well with church officials. 4 | The square is definitely worth a visit — if you’re staying in Ljubljana for a few days, you’ll likely pass through it more than once. On summer evenings, you’ll often see street performers there, and the most popular one is the guy with the giant soap bubbles.
Petr N — Google review
Plaza Prešeren is the vibrant heart of Ljubljana, always buzzing with life. Surrounded by elegant architecture, lively cafés, and the iconic pink Franciscan Church, it’s a perfect spot to soak up the city’s charm. Street performers, locals, and travelers mingle here, making it both a meeting point and a cultural hub. From the square, you can easily wander into the old town or cross the Triple Bridge. A must-visit for its energy, beauty, and central role in Ljubljana’s daily rhythm.
Dani B — Google review
Prešeren Square is the lively heart of Ljubljana, where history, architecture, and local life meet. Surrounded by landmarks like the pink Franciscan Church, the statue of France Prešeren, and Plečnik’s Triple Bridge, it’s the perfect place to start exploring. Just a short walk away is the iconic Dragon Bridge, guarded by Ljubljana’s famous green dragons. During summer, every Friday, the center comes alive with Odprta kuhna (Open Kitchen) — a vibrant open-air food market offering dishes from all over the world. In the mornings, you’ll also find fresh local fruits and vegetables for sale at the nearby central market, making it a great stop for food lovers and casual wanderers alike.

So beautiful and picturesque there is just something simple yet mysterious about this place If there is one pls d to add to your “must see before I die” list then this is it! We spent the day at Lake Bled coming off a cruise ship was its a side trip to this city and were blown away by what we saw Suggest taking a tour group to see the place for a greater appreciation of the historical significance of many landmark places here. Ours was amazing ! TRIVIA - And if you look through my photos you will find a face built into the door out of brass. It was traditional for the architect to build his own face into such structures back in the day!! Enjoy!
