Monastery
Sights & Landmarks
Historic Sites
Monastère Notre-Dame de Clémence de La Verne, also known as Moniales de Bethléem, de l'Assomption de la Vierge et de Saint-Bruno, is a beautifully restored Carthusian monastery located in the serene Massif des Maures. The 12th-century monastery offers a glimpse into the lives of the nuns through guided tours and multilingual paper guides.
Restored monastery in a very secluded chestnut forest. Difficult drive on a tiny mountain road to access the monastery, a good walk from the parking lot, but it's worth all the effort. For a fee you can visit part of the monastery, and the view is just spectacular.
Jean D — Google review
This is an amazing refurnished monastery. It is beautifully cool inside. I rode to it on my bike from Collobrières - a lovely ride of around an hour and a half (less if you're fitter than me!). The return journey downhill was lovely.
David P — Google review
Magical place. This monastery is really in the middle of nowhere. Don't be put off by the twisty roads that lead you there. Amazing, how in former times, people would build such a massive construction so far from anything else, they were really searching silence and seclusion. Equally amazing, how after a long time of neglect and decline, another generation resurrected the monastery from ruins and once again filled it with life. Worldly as well as spiritual. Take your time when you visit, this is not a place to rush through.
Joachim M — Google review
A place of profound peace and spiritual beauty. Monastère Notre-Dame de Clémence de La Verne is a remarkable sanctuary nestled in the heart of the Maures forest. Surrounded by untouched nature, the monastery offers a deeply serene and contemplative atmosphere that invites silence and reflection. The restored architecture is both impressive and respectful of its history, blending harmoniously with the natural landscape. Visitors are welcomed with quiet dignity, and the presence of the monastic community adds a sense of timeless grace to the entire experience. The small boutique offers handmade items and monastic products, allowing guests to take home a meaningful reminder of this sacred place. An unforgettable visit — both spiritually and culturally enriching.
Video T — Google review
Beautiful place! Definitely worth a visit - even if it’s a detour.

You have to do that! Most of people who visit the Gulf of Saint-Tropez miss historical sites as La Verne and others in the surrounding area.
Simon K — Google review
Unique, wonderfully redone classic French province monastery
Sergey I — Google review
Awesome place to visit. The road is narrow but in a good condition and paved to the top. I recommend traveling to Croix d‘Anselme and then to the Monastery. Otherwise, the navigation may try to take the D214 for the majority of the journey to the top but that road is not fully paved on one section. The D14 to Croix d‘Anselme and the D214 to the top is better.

Villa Carmignac, also known as Fondation Carmignac, is a captivating destination located on the picturesque island of Porquerolles. This former Provencal farmhouse has been transformed into a haven for art and nature enthusiasts. Visitors can wander through the enchanting Emmanuel Lopez Garden, shaded by olive, laurel, and palm trees. The villa hosts contemporary art exhibitions and sculptures, including works by renowned artists like Basquiat and Bruce Nauman.
A museum absolutely worth taking a boat trip to visit. Upon arrival, you are greeted with a welcome drink. The collection is rich and wonderful, featuring works by many famous artists. The garden is also worth spending time leisurely strolling through and admiring.
Tingyi L — Google review
Really worth the entrance fee. Very interesting, fun installations, very well organised, very friendly and welcoming staff everywhere. The gardens around it are also worth spending some time in. The restaurant is in a beautiful setting. Have to say the food is expensive, but it was so tasty and in a calm environment, so, again it was worth every cent.
Ruth P — Google review
A beautiful villa in the heart of the forest showcasing some wonderful artwork. I believe that the artwork changes regularly. This exhibition was all about the power of women and it was really interesting. There was something for everyone including Pablo Picasso and Roy Lichtenstein. Definitely a peaceful and relaxing experience in the heart of the forest.
Coralie P — Google review
The exhibition "Vertigo" is very inspiring. Beautiful works of art in an interesting context. The architecture is equally impressive. Must visit!
Jan M — Google review
You have to go. Beautiful place. The « Vertigo » show was excellent ! Walk through the gardens after. Restaurant looked nice but we did not eat.
Roberto P — Google review
Not child-friendly and concerning barefoot safety policy – upsetting experience Villa Carmignac sells tickets that include free entry for children under 12, so we expected a family-friendly environment. However, our 6-year-old was spoken to harshly by a guard in a way that left him in tears for several minutes. Families with babies were also not allowed to bring in nappies, drinks, or water bottles, and strollers are not permitted indoors, which makes visits extremely difficult for parents Visitors are required to walk barefoot inside, yet staff are allowed to wear shoes. Some floors and steps did not appear safe or grippy enough for barefoot movement, especially for children. As an “Établissement Recevant du Public” in France, flooring should meet safety standards for barefoot use (e.g., NF P 05-011 PN classification), and stair edges should be non-slip and visibly marked. No reassurance was given that the floors were tested for barefoot safety, no grip socks were provided, and no warnings were shared beforehand. Overall, despite admitting children, the experience felt unsafe, unfriendly, and distressing for our child. I urge the venue to clarify its barefoot safety compliance and improve staff conduct and family accessibility.
Sharif A — Google review
This is a very unique and stunning museum, 100% must visit. You have to book tickets online ahead of time. We couldn’t buy tickets at the door. It can be a bit crowded at peak hours but still worth a visit. Biggest downside is you have to take off your shoes so be prepared to go barefoot or bring socks.
AN — Google review
Wow. The place is amazing and the exposition was really beautiful. Not too long, not too short. The visit at the garden was great and there is a lot of attention to detail. The maximum is 50 ppl per half hour, so it’s never really crowded.

Deluxe C — Google review
This is a review on the boat taxi service that connects Porquerolles with the main land. I have written another review on Tripadvisor, but the reply was so inappropriate that I feel inclined to write another one here. To start with, yes, it is a 24/7 service, which is much appreciated. The service is relatively swift and convenient. Having said that, a 9 minutes ride (in words nine) costs 114 Euros. This is no joke. Note it is not the NASA shooting you into the orbit, but a boat service shipping you for a few minutes from the main land a few meters away to a small island. My reference to this astounding fact in my review was commented on by saying that the public service costs 10 Euros. And if they are lucky enough to fill the entire boat with 350 seats, it would be much more expensive. What kind of argument is that? This is called economic risk. If a single passenger happens to show up, tough luck, then the public boat will go for 10 Euros. If it is full, they make a large profit (and I have all sympathies for that). Of course you have costs and have to pay for staff, fuel, taxes, the boat and all that - this goes without saying. But please do not make a single passenger pay for all that alone. Your argument is ridiculous. Have a fair price per passenger, or make the price dependent on the number of people you ship, think of something. But again: To charge 114 Euros for 9 minutes is *obscene*. I maintain that. PS: You are cute enough to add that it would have been 99 Euros before 7pm. This is funny, since I contacted the company before 7pm, but had to wait for the boat longer than was agreed upon. Thanks for charging more then.

Nestled in the charming town of Collobrières, Confiserie Azuréenne stands out as a family-run gem renowned for its delectable marron glacés, or candied chestnuts. This bustling factory not only offers these sweet treats by the punnet but also serves up an irresistible scoop of their signature ice cream: La Veritable Glace de Collobrières aux marrons glacés. A visit here is truly a must for any food lover!
Interesting chestnut-dedicated confectionary place to drop by if you're nearby :) The ice cream was sooooo good though it was January 😂
Soohyun P — Google review
Best and absolutely delicious Marrons Ice Cream and all types of marron specialties.
Familie P — Google review
Obviously a slightly touristy experience but also a magical one. The shop and small museum are quiet and relaxing and there is everything on the subject of chestnuts. The ice cream is a favourite and probably the best in the world. Very unique product. The village itself feels slightly surreal like a film set which adds to the atmosphere. Worth a visit on the winding roads leading to the village.
Corrie F — Google review
An absolute must-visit for anyone who loves chestnuts and artisanal sweets! The quality of the products is outstanding — especially the marrons glacés and chestnut cream. Friendly staff, lovely atmosphere, and delicious local flavors. A real treat! 🌰🍬😊

Decent place but products are very expensive! I bought the marrons glaçées in Paris from one of the most famous patisseries and they were cheaper than the ones here. We tried the marrons glaçée ice cream and it was good and fairly priced. I recommend the one with cognac.

The Turtles Village of Carnoules

Zoo
Nature & Parks
Sanctuary for over 1,300 tortoises & turtles, with guided tours & an exhibit of fossils.
A fabulous place to visit. Amazing information on endless species of turtles and tortoises from all over the world. Many different species to see, a museum, films to watch and a wonderful gift shop. These people are dedicated to keeping these incredible animals protected. A must see if you are in the area. Please support them in any way you can and let's prevent any of these creatures from becoming extinct.
Pat C — Google review
The animals are well looked after, the team were really friendly. But it is just tortoises and turtles, this is not a zoo, it's a sanctuary.
Bruno M — Google review
This place was heaven for my kids. Seeing that much tortues in one place. So many species sizes colors... I never knew that we well have that much to see. The stuff wasn’t the warmest or the kindest but I really appreciate the job done in that place
The D — Google review
This team has devoted itself to the protection of turtles worldwide. This village provides an insight into the life of turtles, their evolution, the different species and their habitat. Maybe not so obvious that the Provence/Var region is home to a significant population of wild turtles. The village provides medical support to these, but also to any turtle that is found in need. It's a great visit, especially since they moved to the new location in Pignans. All explanations are in French and English. You can watch a film and the fresh water turtles in the newly built aquarium are an amazing sight. There's also a little playground as well as a kiosk and a shop.
Joachim M — Google review
A nice family trip, a lot to see, many turtles roaming around - from small to big. A small museum and indoor Informational Center complement the outdoors. A must if you love these gentle creatures.
Diana C — Google review
Lovely place. A lot of turtles to watch and some signs to find out more about the different types. It looks like they are taken really good care of. The caretakes are also really nice and are ready to answer all kinds of questions. There was even a speech held by someone about turtles.

(Translated by Google) Cours Lafayette is a pedestrian street in downtown Toulon, lined with shops, mainly Tunisian restaurants/bakeries/cafés, street markets, and entertainment, connecting the port/old town area to the upper part of the city. It is considered the city's vibrant heart, a "Provençal mall" where people stroll, where stalls, meetings, exchanges, and the daily market are held. Cours Lafayette hosts one of the largest open-air markets in Toulon, stretching for nearly a kilometer, with stalls selling food, non-food products, flowers, local produce, and more. The Cours Lafayette market takes place every morning (except Mondays), from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for food and flower products, and in the afternoon from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. for the non-food street market. The avenue is also nicknamed "the cobblestone of love": in the past, the people of Toulon came to this street to stroll, chat, and wander. The singer Gilbert Bécaud, a native of Toulon, popularized the Cours Lafayette market in his song "Les Marchés de Provence." The former bishopric of Toulon is located on Cours Lafayette. The building in its current form dates from the reconstruction of 1786, and it served successively as a bishop's palace, then for administrative, educational, and cultural purposes. The Castel-Chabre department store was an institution on Cours Lafayette: established in 1894, it was located at numbers 71-77 of the street. It lasted until 2014 (approximately 120 years). Along the Cours, there are various old fountains, for example the "Basket Fountain," dating from 1939, which adorns the side of the courtyard. Poems are inscribed on two sides of its pedestal. The Cours Lafayette has borne this name since 1830. The "Provençal mail" style courtyard stands out from the surrounding medieval fabric: its developments (alignment, esplanades, shops, pedestrianization) make it more "modern" than the winding streets of the old town. Over the decades, the Cours Lafayette has undergone renovations and urban developments to pedestrianize it, accommodate the market, and integrate its heritage (fountains, facades, etc.). Ancient remains still exist beneath the course: according to Tripline, today, when walking along the Cours Lafayette, one walks on remnants of Toulon's medieval ramparts.

Toulon Cable Car Mt Faron

The Téléphérique du Mont Faron is an exhilarating cable car experience that takes you soaring to a height of 584 meters, offering stunning views of Toulon and the Mediterranean coastline. This modernized attraction features spacious cabins with large windows and even glass floors for an unforgettable ride. The ascent lasts just under six minutes, making it a quick yet breathtaking journey.
We visited during the shoulder season and practically had the place to ourselves — no lines at all, which made the experience even better. The staff was incredibly friendly and informative, taking the time to explain the route and sights. The ride up offers beautiful views of Toulon and the coastline. We didn’t spend a ton of time at the top since we were just passing through, but we enjoyed walking around the war memorial and taking in the scenery. Watching rock climbers scaling the cliffs was a nice surprise. Definitely worth the ride if you’re in the area — I imagine it gets crowded in peak season, but we loved the peaceful experience.
Kelly B — Google review
Nice mountain to catch a bird's eye view of Toulon. Despite the overcast sky, the views were great. The queue to the cable car was rather long... took us about 2 hours to get to our turn cos there as a short lunch break for the operators. Everyone was patient though. It is best to allocate half a day for this sightseeing as the journey itself takes time. There are places of interest at the top and this could easily take a couple of hours if you want to enjoy the moment.
Dorge R — Google review
We were here early, as the queues grow fast. I would recommend coming early. Especially in a warm / hot day. Cables are smooth and fast to climb or return down mountain. Beautiful views from cable car, and amazing at the top looking down onto Toulon. Highly recommended.
Stuarty B — Google review
A cool spot! I went on Saturday, and there were absolutely no lines or crowds. The whole visit from beginning to end took about an hour, since both the war museum/memorial at the top and the restaurant were closed so wasn’t sure what else to do in there rather than to admire the view. But the ride itself was magnificent, and the scenery truly left me in awe. I also walked all the way from the city centre - it’s a bit uphill, but overall a good walk (about 2 km), very doable.
Jevgenia V — Google review
Visited Toulon via cruise ship voyager and if you choose to do anything in Toulon make this your priority! It was a 30 minute walk from the port to cable car, €9 for a return trip, the views of Toulon are absolutely stunning, if you enjoy hiking there are numerous trails from the top, we simply took the trip and soaked in the panorama on a beautiful day.

The Mountain Above the Sea – Mont Faron Rising high above the harbor city of Toulon, Mont Faron isn’t just a mountain — it’s a silent guardian that has watched over the Mediterranean for centuries. But getting to its summit isn’t a climb — it’s a glide. A bright red cable car swings gently above the rooftops and trees, lifting visitors from the busy streets to the sky. As the city shrinks below, and the sea stretches wide in every direction, the journey itself feels like a moment suspended in time. At the top, Mont Faron offers more than breathtaking views. It's a place of history, with a memorial to the Allied landings in Provence during World War II — a reminder that even the most peaceful places have witnessed moments of courage and conflict. But perhaps the real magic lies in standing still at the summit, watching the sun paint golden paths on the water below, and feeling for a moment like you're on top of the world — with all of Toulon quietly at your feet.
Mikko N — Google review
This is a fantastic value. Great views, friendly staff, and many hiking paths to explore at the summit including a zoo, chapel, and restaurant. Plus you can buy the bus and cable car pass as a combination for only 10euro. The bus drops right at the entrance with no connections required

Rade de Toulon, located on the French Riviera, offers a blend of small-town charm and natural beauty. (Translated by Google) The Toulon harbor is a harbor located on the French Mediterranean coast, in the Var department of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. It is bordered by the Toulon-Provence-Méditerranée metropolitan area and includes the towns of Toulon, La Seyne-sur-Mer, and Saint-Mandrier-sur-Mer. Used since antiquity by Greek and then Roman ships, it now houses the civilian and military port of Toulon. It is surrounded by several protective forts, such as the Fort of Six-Fours, still in use, as well as several others like the Fort of Balaguier, now decommissioned and constituting an important part of the military heritage. History Military confrontations, shipwrecks, and scuttling edit The harbor and its surrounding areas have been the scene of military clashes between France and various belligerents throughout the centuries. Notable battles include the Battle of Cap Sicié in 1744, the Siege of Toulon in 1793, and the Battle of the Hyères Islands in 1795. The harbor has also been the site of shipwrecks, such as that of La Lune, returning from a military expedition to North Africa in 1644, which resulted in the deaths of over 700 sailors and soldiers. It was also the location for the scuttling of the French fleet in November 1942, to prevent it from falling into German hands.

Nestled high above the vibrant port city of Toulon, Zoo Fauverie Du Mont Faron offers an extraordinary wildlife experience that beautifully blends nature with conservation. This unique sanctuary is dedicated to breeding and caring for a variety of big cats, including tigers, lions, leopards, and cheetahs. Visitors can also encounter fascinating creatures like wolves, hyenas, bears, and even playful monkeys in a setting that emphasizes education and awareness about endangered species.
Lovelly quaint zoo. You can see the animals so well and near. The animals look very well kept. The lion look gorgeous. Very interesting as well that it is located on the top of Mont Faron. Big forests and with a spectacular view over Toulon.
Carlotta T — Google review
The story behind the zoo is really beautiful and shows that the keepers of this zoo have a big heart for animals. Almost all the animals here are feline. The animals look very well taken care of. There is also a lot of info about the animals so it’s not only nice to see but also educational. Some enclosures however seem a little to small and could use some modernization. But they seem to have a lot of toys to play with and they all had fresh (some even streaming) water in there enclosure. Overall the animals looked very happy. I would go again if i’m ever in the neighborhood again. (Especially for cute little retired Yvonne the raccoon)

They keep good carers of the animals it was clean and fun place to wisit. Go before feeding time 15:00 it get really grounded at 14:00 lot of kids come that time cos they let kid help whit the feeding
Pyry K — Google review
Tough ride to get there and in the zoonot really enjoyable ride if you have small kids that require a buggy. It's very steep and lots of holes in the ways. Yes, very small zool - we were done in <30min, and we spent a lot of time with each animal we saw (we saw 7, including the donkey and goat). The cages seemed indeed small, and everything looked very ramped down (fences were taped with wire that they still hold 😂😂). It's definitely not worth the ride, but maybe we are just used to different experiences when it comes to zoos... On the positive note, they started to refurbish a lot of cages. All the best for the future to the team that was nice and especially the animals.
David — Google review
The cages are so tiny that I felt bad for the animals. The zoo is also in a very poor condition, but they are busy renovating right now. It took us only 20 minutes to look at everything, so 12.50 for a ticket was quite expensive. I regret my visit.
Calypso — Google review
Nice little zoo, but life seems to be boring for these cats. Also, lots of empty cages. But still, nice visit
Bern M — Google review
Fantastic zoo! Staff are really passionate and are clearly doing a great job caring for these animals. It’s important to visit as the money spent on the tickets will improvise their facility and make enclosures even better. Had a great visit!
Alex C — Google review
Fun for an hour and a half. It is very tired and is in desperate need of investment in everything. To be positive, the animals appear in good condition and well looked after. None of them looked insane like the polar bear at Glasgow zoo. My daughter enjoyed herself. The picnic tables have a great view. April 2022..back again. We had a good time. All the cats were awake and moving about.

Cascade de Sillans

Hiking area
Waterfalls
Cascade de Sillans is a stunning 42-meter high waterfall located in Sillans la cascade, on the edge of the Verdon natural park near Sainte Croix lake. The area features a short forest trail leading to a deck with views of the waterfall tumbling over a tree-covered cliff. The village also boasts a beautiful and noble masonry castle surrounded by splendid ramparts, which has been repurchased by the commune.
A dreamy waterfall 😍 Feels like something out of pinterest. Cute path that leads to it, a lot of stairs but very doable. Not crowded at all.
Mikey — Google review
Even there is enough space to park for free, they put up a barrier and you have to get on payed parking. Then you have to walk back on foot to the water fall. Distance was bigger then expected and observation dock pretty small for all the people. Some of them would like to have a photo of family with the cascade but will end having a photo with other families because the dock is crowded. The weather was very hot and a swim on water stream would be preferable. However, the waterfall is nice.
Radasca 0 — Google review
Beautiful waterfall with turquoise water. Even better in person than in photos. About a 15-minute walk, viewed from a platform. Sadly, no swimming allowed.
Karolina S — Google review
Cascade de Sillans is a beautiful and peaceful spot, perfect for a nature escape. The walk to the waterfall is very friendly for most visitors, with just a few slightly steep steps along the way. I’d definitely recommend wearing comfortable shoes, as it makes the short hike much more enjoyable. If you’re hoping to get some great photos, it’s best to go early. The viewing deck overlooking the waterfall tends to get quite busy, especially with families visiting later in the day. It’s a very child-friendly destination, and I even saw several people with buggies. While the paths are generally manageable, you’ll want someone with you to help lift the buggy at certain points – that was the case from what I observed during my visit. Near the entrance, there are plenty of food trailers offering a range of options including wraps, soft drinks, ice cream, and even a pizza trailer – great for grabbing a bite after your walk. There is parking available close to the site, but do note that it is paid parking. All in all, Cascade de Sillans makes for a lovely outing that combines natural beauty, accessibility, and a few tasty treats – just be sure to plan ahead and arrive early for the best experience.
Mani S — Google review
A pretty waterfall. If you want to hike/get closer to the water you can start from Parking du Village. However from this side there isn’t a good full view of the waterfall. When we went (on a Tuesday in August) it was really busy and kind of loud. Parking is expensive.
Samin G — Google review
Absolutely stunning . We were a little bit misled because we thought we could swim around the area but it turns out that if you want to swim in that beautiful water it’s actually about 20 or 30 minutes away. However, there is parking and it’s not that expensive at all I think it was about €3 for the few hours we stayed and they have a toilet that everyone can use and lots of vendors who serve things like hotdogs and pizza slices. If you’re travelling from abroad, be sure to try and use Google lens for your translating needs as not much is in English. Once you arrive at the car park, it’s around a 15 minute walk down a lot of stairs and some trails until you reach the waterfall. you then reach a platform like a viewing platform that holds about 10 people and you can look and take photos, a little underwhelming as you literally just stand there and take photos then leave and walk back up back to your car, whereas I thought we’d be able to touch the waterfall or explore the area nearby but you can’t it’s very much “stick to the trail” and don’t come off it. You can’t come off it because there’s actually Fences. But I’ve decided to give it four stars as it was very beautiful and a lovely little tucked away gem and all the staff that work there were very helpful. There are lots of staff along the route and it’s impossible to get lost. Would definitely recommend. We drove two hours from cannes to get there
Joe J — Google review
Beautiful hidden waterfall, simple trail to follow took about 10-15 minutes to walk to. Viewing platform was quiet, visited on a weekday in the evening.
Megan B — Google review
This is a beautiful waterfall. But we went there thinking we could picnic at the waterfall. Due to the fire risk park rangers made us move on and the very small platform for viewing it was crowded no rest area or chair. Still well worth visiting however we found a really nice picnic ground back near the bridge that you cross before you park.

Basilique Sainte-Marie-Madeleine is a Catholic basilica located in the small town of St-Maximin-la-Ste-Baume in central Var department, France. It was constructed over three centuries from the 13th to the 16th and houses historic organs and relics of Mary Magdalene. The basilica is well-preserved and worth visiting for its historical and aesthetic value, offering free entry even to the crypt during low season.
A hidden gem. From the outside it doesn't look like much, but this basilique is among the best in France. Incredible architecture, powerful organ, and beautiful art. The crypt of Mary Magdalene is beneath the church and there is an entrance accessible from inside

imposing and beautiful basilica in the old town, the largest Gothic building in Provence which houses the relics of Mary Magdalene ...

Beautiful basilique with lots of history. If you get a chance to go with a guide, I would recommend that! And don’t forget to check out the gift shop to participate in the renovation fundraising (they sell religious items but also local honey and other things, and you can pay by card). We were lucky to visit it with a friend who had done a guided tour on the journées du patrimoine and explained a lot of the history like how it was almost robbed at the revolution and that’s why a lot of the stained glass is gone but the organ player started playing the national anthem and pushed the invaders away. The story of Sainte Marie Madeleine is beautiful too, and so much more!

Another fantastically beautiful and Grand cathedral.

Wonderful place well preserved, which dates back to the beginning of Christianity The abside is really spectacular The 2000-years old crypt contains the remains of our Saint Sister Marie-Madelaine, which seems unbelievable One downside : large groups of people just stay packed inside the crypt for long periods of time, preventing other persons from accessing the tombs

Grotte Sainte-Marie Madeleine

Cave

Chapel built in a narrow cliffside cave, the supposed last resting place of Mary Magdalene.
An absolute must when visiting the area of Sainte-Baume. There are a few places to park and the walk is relatively easy, though make sure you take plenty of water in hot weather. The climb up through the pine wood is worth the effort for the views across the plateau to Sainte-Victoire mountain. The grotto is exceptional and a wonderful place to visit. There are daily masses, when some sections are closed off, but otherwise all visitors are welcome.
Neil H — Google review
The 1.3 kilometer walk up to this place is PAINFUL... the view at the top is amazing. There are similar views, however, all around Provence where the climb isn't so steep. So, unless you're going up the mountain for some specific, religious region... then I would just seek out similar views elsewhere. In fact... if you are on some sort of religious pilgrimage... you may be disappointed when you get to the top (if you didn't already know what you would see when you got there). It seems at some point during the 1950s or 60s someone saw fit to kitsch the place up with some lights pretty gaudy religious trinkets There's also a gift shop... which was thankfully closed. I was legitimately expecting just a straight-up cave... Not the little mini-chapel that was there. The giant sculpture in front of the cave is beautiful. Everything else just seems sort of tacky. I'm left to wonder what it must've looked like in the 1920s... or 1820s.

A quiet walk beneath the tall beech and oak forest of Sainte-Baume leads to one of Provence’s most meaningful sites: the Grotte de Marie-Madeleine. Tradition holds that Mary Magdalene spent her final years here in contemplation. The air feels still, almost suspended in time, and the view opens toward the valley like a slow exhale. Whether one comes for history, for faith, or simply for a moment of silence, the cave reminds us that retreat can also be a form of strength.

We visit today, October 17 2022. It was fantastic, very spiritual and inspirational. It is a bit of a hike to get up to it, but worth the hike. FYI I am 65 and in decent but certainly not exceptional shape. I stopped when I was tired but made it up. It was worth it!

Magical place. We happened to come when a Mexican pilgrimage had finished their visit and began to play guitar and sing. It was mesmerizing. The grotto itself is a special place and the view from above is nothing short of magnificent.
J. C — Google review
One of the holiest and most inspiring places you can visit. The emotion walking up to the hike is overwhelming. Mary lived many years there braving the heat and cold after Jesus died. She was a great Catholic disciple in the area and the beauty she left is unmatched anywhere in the world. Please be respectful and do not wear yoga pants.

BEWARE OF STOLEN ITEMS IN PARKING LOT we came and had an amazing time, locked the car with our suitcases and a backpack with two laptops in it. We came back to the car with no apparent issues and drove to our next hotel, only then did we realize the laptops and chargers were stolen. Even with the bags out of visible site, the car locked and a 1.5 hike, the laptops were stolen. If you come here with electronics, take them with you-it’s worth it.

A fantastic experience, unique for both children and adults! This Western-themed amusement park offers a wide range of attractions, from thrilling rides to entertaining shows, making it a perfect family outing. The atmosphere is lively and immersive, with cowboy-style decor and activities that engage visitors of all ages. Whether you're enjoying the roller coasters or watching a stunt show, there's something for everyone. It's a great place to create lasting memories with family and friends!

The western theming is excellent and the park is clean! The rides are quite close together so no unnecessary walking needed. Free and spacious parking available. Bags are checked before entry. Buying tickets was fast. We enjoyed our day and our 4yr old son managed to ride majority of rides alone or accompanied. There are a lot of new/unusual rides we've not seen before. I took one star off however due to ride times as there is only one ride operator per ride and this holds the queues up. Also, there is no shade/covers/canopies for most rides whilst queuing and it does get very hot. I would recommend the water sprays/mists around the park to take the edge off the humidity.

Spent the day at OK Corral. Rides are Ok but nothing overly exciting. Gold Rush probably the best ride out of all. Kids had fun though. Service poor at best.. see transcript of hilarious conversation with Bartender: note temperature was scorching close to 40 degrees Me: 2 Beers and a large bottle of water BT: Sir we only have small bottles Me: OK.. 3 small bottles of water then. Can I have them nice and cold? BT: No sir the fridge is not working well and water is not cold Me: Ok.. can I have some Ice? BT: No sir, we dont have ice Me: could I have the beer in some Glass glasses and not plastic cups? BT: No sir only plastic cups here Me: could I al least have a slice of Lemon? BT: we don’t have lemons here.. this is not a NY bar, this is a western bar, we have what we have.. €26 please!

We went there on a Friday in July. There was basically no need to wait for all the facilities. There were performances more or less every two hours. The actors and actresses were very very professional, and the attitude of all the staffs were very nice even when the kids kept asking for playing the same game repeatedly. Children under one meter are free, and there are many items to play. Very good experience! Great for little ones.

Great activity for the whole family. You must reserve a ride before, since they are limited with number of trolleys. Price is 45 € for one trolly. It can take 5 persons, two seats are for pedaling. We enjoyed it very much. The first part is uphill and takes little effort, then you go to the tunnel, and after that it is downhill. There is no need to peddle. Return is on the same track, but you have motor assisted pedals for returning uphill. The scenic view nis awsame. Great memories.

Superb way to spend an afternoon with friends or family. Careful! Departs only at defined hours 3 times a day. Call ahead, as reservations are required. Great fun on the way down. The way back up is tough, in doubt, spend the 10€ extra on a battery for electrical assistance. Leave your weighty friends at home as you will have to carry them uphill otherwise.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Velorail Sainte Baume is a fantastic spot for both adults and families! The experience is fun and enjoyable for all ages. The power assist feature is a great addition, making the trip incredibly easy, but you can choose not to use it if you're looking for a workout. Just a heads up, it can get a bit loud if you start going fast. One important note: it's the parents responsibility to look after their children. If you have kids that are a bit more "energetic" and don't like to sit still or perhaps fairly young children, you may want to think twice before taking them on this ride. There is potential risk of injury. They are very upfront about it and will make you sign a waiver. Overall, a wonderful outing that I highly recommend!

Covering 4 hectares, this natural attraction offers a variety of eco-friendly activities such as rope swings, climbing in tree houses, giant ball games, pedal cars, zip lines, water slides and hanging trails.
This was a truly fantastic place. Kids had a brilliant time. We were there for the entire day and still didnt quite manage to go on everything. Popular but didnt feel crowded at all, probably because it is very well laid out. Plenty of place to sit whilst waiting. And even in the heat the shade offered by the trees was really sufficient. Highly recommend, great day out.

At first we were disappointed that lots was closed due to the high risk of fires(which we totally understand of course) but the park is so big and we didn't miss anything. Kids had a blast. 10-15 yo. The big trees give lots of shade (+35°C) And all the water games made it amazing for many hours of play. The price is not much for a whole day of fun. Unfortunately lost a Orange Data card :(

A bit expensive for a family of four. They make you pay for a child starting at the age of 2 years old. There were lots of climbing activities for the kids but everything was really dusty and sandy. I made the mistake of wearing white shorts and they were completely covered in dirt. The internet was down when we arrived and we were not able to purchase tickets at the machine and had to walk over to the adjacent park to buy tickets.

Nature here is amazing. I had some difficulties to find the right path, without google maps was impossible and not always very clear. However, if you like to walk and/or hike, this place is for you. Cristal water and small beaches, we went end july and not a lot of people. Of course you need to be lucky (like anywhere) that the few people you have are not loud. We took the tellow path. This one is not suitable for kids! But hey, it’s nature!:) A bit sad that in the sea you can se a lot of boats but then the park is closed to the public. Environmentally the impact of boats is way higher then just people walking. However, it was a great experience.

This is easily one of the coolest parks I've been to. It's absolutely beautiful with plenty of well-marked hiking trails. There's also plenty of climbing areas, some of which require far-from-obvious trails that require scrambling or rappelling at times. Rarely, you'll find chains at the extremely scrambly sections.

A unique mountain that Cezanne loved to draw. It has a pointed ribbed relief. There are many hiking trails, a beautiful forest, there is a church on the top of the mountain, you can see a dam with a beautiful view. A very beautiful hike. We started from the dam and followed the blue route to the top. It was indicated this would take about two hours and this was a good estimate. At the top of the mountain you can find an old monastery that has been renovated. It was not open to visit when we were there (Friday 18th of September). Specialty Museums
Located in Aix-en-Provence, Musée Granet is a renowned art and sculpture museum housed in the former Knights of Malta center. The museum boasts an impressive collection of works by celebrated artists such as Rembrandt, Ingres, and Cezanne. In addition to its permanent collection, the museum also signed an agreement with Fondation Jean et Suzanne Planque in Lausanne to showcase modern and contemporary artworks for 15 years.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t see the Cézanne permanent collection since it wasn’t available during my visit in May 2025. But the rest of the artworks were really cool and worth seeing. The layout of the museum was clear and easy to follow — you won’t get lost. A great museum experience overall!
Deniz A — Google review
An extraordinary Cezanne exhibition covering his early to later works. Tickets only available via online portal and do expect a crowd- but it is a must if in Aix. The museum’s smaller permanent exhibition is also worth a (less crowded) visit.
Søren B — Google review
The temporary exhibition about Cezanne was fabulous however the organisation of the museum leaves huuuuuge space for improvement. The tickets can not be bought in the museum even if the next available slot is in the next 30 minutes. You have to buy online or in tourist office which is 700 meters away. The most ridiculous solution I’ve ever encountered in any other museum. You’re advised to come 30 minutes before just to stand in the queue. Instead of letting people enter on small groups they just put a mass of people to enter small space of the exhibition all together to make the small rooms super crowded. No logic at all. And the worst out of it is the stroller unfriendly policy! Nowhere at the stage of buying tickets online you learn strollers are not allowed. You learn it when entering museum. Parent must carry the child all the time. As I was nowhere before made aware of it I didn’t bring any baby carrier. They finallly made exception for me after consulting their head of security 🤯 the museum has lifts inside but first you need to make two round of stairs in front to enter the building which is a tough barrier for people with strollers or with wheelchairs. This all happens in France and touristic town! Shame and the difficulties they made for people with reduced mobility and first of all not informing the customer on the stage of buying ticket just spoils the whole experience. The staff also is not very helpful as this is a bother to have reduced mobility person as a visitor. Only one woman on the lower floor was actually nice. The rest was behaving as this is such a nuisance. Total disappointment and I’ve been to hundreds of museums before. 2 stars as the exhibition was first class but organisationally it’s a HORRIBLE place.

The Cezanne exhibit is fantastic and well worth the price! They've brought together a fantastic collection and traced it though his life to show the evolution of style and use of light. The price includes the rest of the collection, and it was well organized to get in with timed entry, keeping it not too busy inside. If you're lucky enough - catch it before Oct 16 :).
Kimberly B — Google review
Wonderful space and comprehensive Cezanne expo visited in October 2025. There was a significant queue for the expo, which is reassuring! There are plenty of us still looking for beauty and inspiration in art! Will be back!
Silvana A — Google review
The Cezanne show was a great idea. Unfortunately, it was very difficult to truly appreciate it. We had tickets for the 12:30pm time slot and while the museum staff tried their best, people with other time slots were able to get in ahead of us. The que was in a side street that was partially closed to public but somehow people were skipping the que and going in. Once in, the museum was mobbed and there were large guided groups that monopolized the most significant pieces making it practically impossible for individuals to get close. The guide giving a lecture in front of the piece and the group (some even set up folding chairs!), took over entire rooms so those of us behind couldn’t get close. I’m sure the show was great and the city deserves kudos for a great effort but the museum needs to reconsider whether they can host individuals at the same time as they invite groups. The other issue is not the museum’s fault but a rule about it might help: photography should not be allowed when the museum is this busy. People stand in front of a piece with their phone, one after another, taking pictures of artwork that has been photographed millions of times preventing those of us behind to appreciate the work. No one is ever going to take as good a picture as the one sold in the museum shop post card or found in a book. I’m happy I was able to visit this beautiful exhibit but, unfortunately, it was not a particularly enjoyable experience.

The museum houses permanent collection and temporary exhibitions, in our case Cezanne a Jas de Bouffan 2025. The temporary exhibition was nice, the permanent one was fine but didn't entice me that much.

We went to see the Sezanne exhibition. It was really nice but unfortunately totally overcrowded although they are already limiting access with time slots. It also would have been great to understand more about the father -son relationship - the explanations were too short/ shallow and seemed contradictory at times.
