A great place for nostalgia. Really good exhibits with knowledgeable staff around to guide you. Lots of things for kids to do. Coffee and cakes were good. Coffee was surprisingly tasty and sponge cake was one of the best in a snack bar. Well done staff. Tickets are valid for a year, so I will be back........ definitely!
Roger L — Google review
Making use of the £12 for a year ticket! Already been in a couple of times ( for the bacon butty ) Staff are lovely, exhibits are well presented.
Kim A — Google review
Whilst a small museum it's bigger than it looks. Lots of vintage things set about and well displayed. Place is run by volunteers all of which were friendly and nice as well as being passionate. Cafe was accommodating for gluten free and didn't make a fuss so that was also a nice touch. Some exhibits could do with a slight revamp to bring in the fresh blood but despite that it was still a cracking little museum worthy of going to visit. If you're into your vintage nostalgic cars and bikes or even just the walking back through time this is something right up your street. Really enjoyed my visit. Thanks to the staff

If you just want i little family day out, this is the place for you. Brilliant museum with old vehicles and trains and much more.

Had a great visit here the place is small but packed with different vehicles. The food was great and a good price and the staff were very friendly.
Mathew B — Google review
One of the most exciting and friendly places to go if you are into history or love classic cars, trucks and bikes. Fantastic volunteers and staff, friendly atmosphere and café inside. One time ticket purchase gives you access for a year, sometimes there are events held like the classic bike show last weekend! It was excellent.
Callam T — Google review
Excellent surprisingly large museum, well presented with fascinating range of exhibits. The enthusiasm of the team is infectious, and the cafe definitely worth a visit too. Their collections are displayed with informative notice boards, and presented such that you can readily access sections that are of most interest to you. Outside there is plenty of space for specialist marque clubs and events, which added further interest and value to us on the day of our visit.
Anton G — Google review
My family and I visited back in November and again today, as initial entrance fee is valid for the entire year. This is excellent value for money, and the volunteers have done an amazing job to make this place look great. My 2 year old daughter absolutely loves this place. Even if your not particularly into motor vehicles, this museum is still an absolute gem. The museum displays include vehicles of all kinds, shops which you actually walk into and upstairs. Our favourite sections were being allowed upstairs on the double decker tour bus, model railway (which is huge) and when it's available- using the fire engine hose to knock down targets! Well done to all the volunteers that make this place such a great day out.

Visitors can enjoy the nearby Coastguard pub, known as Britain's closest to France, offering a sea-view terrace for savoring drinks while taking in the bay scenery.
Stayed at St Margaret’s bay for the third time and we love it. The caravan we stayed in was lovely and spacious. The entertainment was good fun and the kids love it. The pool and spa are a lovely addition. And it’s nice to see they’ve added the red bikes to the park. We will definitely be back for a fourth visit at some point.

Lovely quiet place to stay we stayed for 2 weeks. We had nice walks to st margaret's bay. It's a bit hilly but you can follow the coast road right by the white cliffs. The accommodation is normal caravan holidays but ours was very comfy food in club was ok enjoyed the noodles they were tasty. swimming pools were brillant and they have adult only in the morning. The local pup the smugglers are friendly and food is A1 all in all a very enjoy able holiday would use parkdean again very helpfull
Peter S — Google review
Got there and went to my "Bungalow" the website said it had its own parking, which it did not, that was one of the reason's why I booked it. The Staff said they have never had its own parking, so god only kows why the Parkdean website said it. They did say they would get the website updated. stayed in number 50. Where to start, Apart from the leccy Bathroom Radiator been on all the time, but very small. so towel drying was a joke the Rest of them was on 2 or 4 hour timers, the front room was only 2 hours max. So you would wake up and go into a cold room, I went in Nov 2025 so not the best time of year The bedroom ones only allowed upto 4 hours of heat, so again not great Now the timer had a bright blue light, which lite the bedroom up, so that was annoying. And as blue led's are one of the most dangerous colours to the human eyes, not the greatest. And the fact both bedroom ones made some strange ticking type sound, Been Autistic I use white noise to sleep, and this ticking sound was louder than that, so that did my head in and I had to turn the heating off. The Cooker was broken the light to say it had reached temp was missing, so hit and miss. Bathroom extractor fan never worked, the sink had something missing, its like a small trap that you can lift up and down to allow you to fill the sink up or epmty it, so if you dropped something into it, you would lose it. Also you could not sit down on the Toilet without having the toilet roll and holder been in the way. Net curtains over only the windows in the front living area, NOT THE DOOR so no Privacy, had to close curtains when going out, just so people could not look in No lights on the front of the bungalow area ( yes auto light on the side) but bright LED street lamp on the back where the bedrooms are so that also came in on a night time while trying to sleep. The hedge on the way out of the site, if you had the nerve to be turing right, you had to pull out into the road, just to see past the hedge to see if it was clear, does not look bad in the picture bit it was I have never had breakfast at one of these sites, so we gave it a go, Turned up at 9:04am, told nothing cooked as they had only opened at 9:00am, which is fair enough, but then had to wait 50 minutes to get the Breakfast. The Glass was vey old and covered in marks, like no salt in the dishwasher type marks The beans where luke warm but the rest of the meal was fine On the day we left, my Son forgot his house key for where he lives, and they called me and said they would post it back to me, and said they would put it in an envelope and it would get posted back to me, which i was thinking that was nice of them but Today 6 days later, still no letter with Key and after I called the site, The woman got a bit mardy, saying that the staff only work part time and they would have to do it in their own time and also post it in their own time back to me. Which is not what I was told on the day they called me Then we went in both pools the small one has steps/ladder that are loose and moved when you stepped on them, the main pool was not much better not fixed right at all Hot water was a joke too, only enough for half a sink full, then nothing for hours while it heated up again

What a fantastic relaxing stay !! Been using Parkdean Parks for many years in Cornwall when visiting family and this is the first time we’ve stayed in a different park. I can honestly say that it is the best we’ve stayed at and was exactly what we were hoping for. Love the pools, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi. The park is quiet and very clean, with friendly helpful staff. Our caravan was really clean and in a perfect position for us. We love the park so much, we’re thinking about buying a caravan or bungalow so we can make it a more regular place to be when not working
Terry B — Google review
We stayed in October and loved the Park, a great location for exploring the coast around Dover. We upgraded to a Prestige Lodge which was very comfortable, with plenty of room for 3 people! We found the beds comfy, and it was nice having 2 bathrooms. The site was small and quiet which suited us. The facilities were good with a pool and sauna. Wish we'd stayed longer!
Mezzer B — Google review
Had a Lovely Caravan stay.Very clean on arrival. The park was in a Lovely setting for a Break and near some interesting places to visit. The staff were friendly. We had a check from the Housekeeping staff one day into our holiday to make sure we were happy with everything
Caroline W — Google review
Was quite a good serene location. Peaceful. They created activities that will make kids enjoy their stay. E.g aquajet, Waterwalker. etc. Staff member were quite helpful. Location- You can board a ferry 1 hour to France for the day. 41, miles from sandy beach. Would need to drive to enjoy your stay here Did not use gym, but looks okay. Hot tub seem quite old. Seem like a very old park. Some features looks dated, but good

$$$$affordable
Historical landmark
South Foreland Lighthouse, located at the edge of the North Downs and part of the famous White Cliffs of Dover, offers guided tours and a tearoom within its 19th-century structure. The lighthouse, built in 1843, was the first to use an electric light and played a significant role in maritime history by warning boats of dangerous offshore banks. Visitors can embark on a marked route from the White Cliffs Visitor Centre to reach this historic Victorian landmark.
Absolutely fantastic! A fun and blustery walk from the car park to the lighthouse (with views of the white cliffs of Dover and France). Gorgeous on a sunny day. The lighthouse itself is also great (complete with a cute little tearoom). There are bathrooms and places to sit and relax at both the visitors centre and the lighthouse itself. Would definitely visit again and recommend.
Hannah S — Google review
This lighthouse is managed by National Trust and as always has a lovely set of volunteers who are very polite and friendly. The lighthouse tour is one I will recommend. They provide a very informative and absorbing story telling session. Views of the English channel and surrounding areas from the lighthouse are absolutely stunning. The site has a shop, tea rooms and toilet facilities. Parking for NT members is about a mile away, but the walk is beautiful.
Swaroop M — Google review
The lighthouse is a little underwhelming, but the walk there and back from Devon is gorgeous. Grateful thanks to the NT for acquiring and preserving this spectacular coast line. Good foot path and well signposted. Its about an hour of moderate walking each way.
Lindy A — Google review
We had a great tour of the lighthouse, the current lighthouse, built in the 1840s, was the first in the world to use an electric light and a key site for pioneering wireless communication, free for National Trust members. There is only 1 way two get there, and that is two walk, but there are 2 different car parks to choose though, that is the National Trust white cliffs car park or St Margaret's village, it was a lovely walk from the National Trust car park, and don't forget to visit the 2 other great National Trust sites on the way, Fan bay deep shelter and Wanstone Gun Battery.
Pete H — Google review
Great location for a Pitstone if you walked the trail. The lighthouse itself is interesting to visit plus grabbing some refreshments and chilling with the fantastic channel views on a sunny day is just perfect.
Sam A — Google review
While hiking the White Cliffs of Dover, we made a stop in to grab a quick cuppa tea and a snack. It’s a great little light house with an amazing view! We had the cream tea service. First time for me and it was delicious! It’s a nice half way point for a great hike and a nice little stop and visit. Go check it out and meet the tea room crew!
Jason S — Google review
This hidden gem on the south coast is absolutely magnificent and I cannot recommend it enough. I love the way that you have to hike about 50 minutes from the visitor centre to get there which gives you a real sense of adventure. The tickets for the tour are very reasonably priced and you get to see all the different levels and learn about the role they played in the day to day running of the lighthouse. As well as the day to day work to ensure the safety of shipping in the vicinity, there was also pioneering work done here in the development of radio and electricity. There are fascinating artefacts, stunning views out over the channel, mesmerising machinery and passionate National Trust staff that will make sure you have a really great time. There is a cafe, gift shop and toilets, picnic benches, deck chairs - everything you might need.

The Basilica of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception at Boulogne-sur-Mer is situated in the Pas-de-Calais region, France. It is housed in the historic castle of Aumont, dating back to the 13th century and classified as a Historical Monument. The basilica's construction began in the 19th century, replacing an earlier church that was destroyed during turbulent times. Can't tell you how cool this place is. Gotta just go see it. Lots of wows all the way round. If you love history this is amazing. Even easy for the unsteady on feet. The crypt you need to pay to visit. But the church itself is free.
Paula T — Google review
Such a beautiful place. We had the opportunity to see it just before closing and it was worth it for a few minutes. Definitely will definitely be coming back soon.
Aga K — Google review
The crypt was interesting and very large. The combination ticket giving entry to it and 2 other museums is great value at 11 euros.
James F — Google review
Stunning!! So peaceful and well maintained. Could do with the information desk/shop to be at the entrance instead of the exit! No toilet facilities I have seen neither which always helps. It is lovely to visit a church that is open to the public. Something that you rarely see in England unless it is a big city.
Nancy H — Google review
The Cathedral Notre-Dame is absolutely worth a visit. The church itself is grand and impressive, with a unique and restored dome that really sets it apart from other cathedrals I've seen. What truly stood out, though, were the crypts underneath—also recently restored and incredibly atmospheric. The scale and detail of the underground chambers are breathtaking and give a real sense of the history and depth of the place. A must-see if you're in the area!

The Crypte de la Basilique Notre-Dame in Boulogne-sur-Mer is a captivating historical site that offers a unique glimpse into the past. Originally built as a church and later transformed into a cathedral, this impressive structure stands tall at 100 meters, overlooking the city. While some may find the basilica's 19th-century architecture less appealing, it sits atop ancient Roman foundations, connecting visitors to centuries of history.
Absolutely beautiful museum! Great history and all the signs were in French, Dutch and English which makes it very accessible. Very sweet staff and also nice and cool especially for in the summer. Absolutely would recommend!
Angéline — Google review
Nice place to visit, even with your children. I went there with my 10-year-old son who enjoyed discovering every corner of the crypt. This place is a real maze. It is quite dark but it contributes to the general feeling of mystery you get once inside. Some parts are really well preserved. They provide the visitors with useful and interesting information, but it is sometimes hard to decipher the texts written in different languages as several of the lamps are not working. But it is still worth the visit, especially as it is 6€ (if you have no special discount) and free for children (until the age of 18) If needed, there are toilets just outside the entrance (red door on the right side when coming in)
Nolan K — Google review
The crypt under the Basilica is a real historical gem. Very well preserved and maintained the crypt is filled with colourful murals and paintings. It is worth a visit.
Stephane P — Google review
Definitely must see please - I was surprised how good the crypt can be organized and maintained. It takes like 30-45 min to go thru but is worth any minute. Place has unprecedent atmosphere and kind of art of death. You will see wall art and catacombs painting all over, with all history descriptions you can feel the atmosphere of pre - Europe time.

Beautifully laid out with great lighting, so much to see. It's amazing that it isn't more publicised in the cathedral but we discovered it via Google!

Bio-Topia Fort-Mardyck - Dunkerque is a small and peaceful zoo located on the western outskirts of the city. It houses around 50 species of wild and domestic animals from Europe, making it an ideal destination for nature enthusiasts, conservationists, wildlife observers, and eco-conscious families. Despite its size, visitors find the zoo enjoyable with well-maintained habitats for animals. The ticket prices are surprisingly cheap considering the variety of animals present.
Brilliant small zoo. Ideal stop off on the way to Belgium and Netherlands.
Rob W — Google review
Absolutely great value for money. Only a few euros to get in, and you can easily spend an hour or so in there (if not more if you time it to see the feeding). Great place to spend extra time if you've just got off the ferry
James A — Google review
Really nice little zoo nestled within a residential area. Animal enclosures are nicely designed and obviously well looked after and the animals had a nice amount of space. Interesting selection of species, it was cool to see Jaguarundi as they aren't in many collections in the UK. You can probably walk around the whole place in around an hour but always worth walking around more to see the more elusive animals.
Dayna T — Google review
A rather small zoo, but enjoyable nonetheless. Surprisingly, on the day of my visit, it was pretty empty most of the time with very little visitors. Some of the habitats could definitely be a bit bigger, but generally, the animals do have a nice home here. Employees are friendly, but be advised that most of them speak little to no English, so you’d better brush up on your French. The ticket prices are really cheap - which actually surprises me with the amount of animals they harbor. There’s free parking, too. Overall, this is a nice place and I liked coming here.

Great zoo. Funny sheep. Slightly on the spectrum seals that just zoomed in circles. Lynx had babies and they fell off the top bit which was funny. Toilets were good.

Nice small scale zoo. Lots of different animals to see.

Excellent value zoo, great range of small to mid size animals that are well cared for. Only €5 entry and a good gift shop. The route is not do well signed but it's at the far north of Dunkirk, satnav will take you there. Great for kids.
Zoomer46 Z — Google review
Great place to visit €4 each we spent about an hour or so there but with kids I guess a while longer there's a few activities centers for them and picnic tables half way round by the unisex toilets and the gift shop at the end.

Dennlys Parc

Amusement park
Water & Amusement Parks
Theme park on the former site of a mill, with roller coasters, water slides & a kids' monorail.
Dennlys Parc is an absolute gem. We went there on a Monday with our kids and we were pretty lucky, because we did not have to wait more than 10- 20 minutes at each ride. Despite the weather being nice. I’d recommend the park for kids from 5 years on, since most rides can be used at a height of 1,10 metres. Our oldest is 9 years old and can definitely ride everything there. Eating at the park is easy and not overly expensive. Next to pizza and a restaurant serving fish and chips, there is a hot dog stand which serves good hot dogs. Ice cream , slushys and cotton candy is also available. A few staff members spoke English which was nice since we are not fluent enough in French. We paid 78€ for two adults and two kids. That is absolutely fair for the rides this park offers. We arrived at 9:45am and spend the whole day there. Some downsides we noticed are mentioned below. While these are not nice, I can definitely recommend this park. The following things we experienced are no deal breaking issues, but I still want to mention them for others. Height Requirements: The height requirements at each ride were often loosely ignored or overlooked by the staff. Small kids on a roller coaster clearly restricted for older kids, the free fall tower with little kids on it… To be honest, as parents it made us feel a bit worried. One little girl smashed her face against the restraining seat when the roller coaster (mining cart) stopped abruptly. This happened, because she clearly was too small and her head sitting too low. Rapid rides: A warning sign of getting completely soaked would have been nice. I expect to get wet on such a ride, however, all four of us had to get completely changed (underwear included). Luckily we had some spare clothes in our car. This was no exception: While we waited for our socks and shoes to dry, pretty much 90% of people leaving the ride were soaked and dripping of water. Slushys: The slushy dispenser in the shop say no sugar (sans sucre), but after confronting the staff cause we were sceptical, it does contain sugar. For a diabetic this is dangerous and misleading and should not be advertised as such. All in all I give the park a big thumps up and is worth a visit! All negatives aside :)

Great value family park, brilliant rides and good value food.

Very good family trip. Very big parking organized as there are more than 10 people working on the parking. Bring from home 2 meals at least with snacks, after you enter you can go back to car, no need to take everything at once as the parking is jus 5 min walk or less. Alot of things to do. If you want to buy food from inside its not expensive please check the photo i added. Clean WC toilette. Friendly staff. Buy the ticket online to save time be there at 9:15 to enter max at 10:00 we finished the day at 6 and did not manage to finish all games. There is que all of the games in August.

Perfect place for the kids of all ages. You can dive into the joy and you’ll need about 4-5 hours to make the whole park. There are the several places to dine in.

Brilliant. Hardly any queuing. V family friendly. Perfect for 3 to 10 year olds. Much more enjoyable than Legoland at a fraction of the price!

A last minute decision to go during our holiday and initially I thought it was aimed at very young families- in reality it caters for everyone in a wonderfully clean, reasonably priced theme park. I saw granddads and toddlers enjoying the same rides which was heart warming. A real teenager (and a wannabe teenager) found the rollercoasters to be fast and scary enough. The water ride got us all soaked and at the end of our visit we all left with great memories of the day and smiles on our faces.

Military Museums
La Coupole Centre D'histoire is a museum and 3D planetarium housed in a massive German underground bunker from World War II. It was used by the Nazis to develop V2 missile rockets. The site is located near Saint-Omer and features a seven-meter thick concrete dome built by the Germans to protect their munitions. Visitors can explore multimedia exhibits on WWII and the French occupation, as well as learn about the history of the bunker through audio tours or tablets.
Fascinating museum well worth a visit. Well laid out, very informative and covers several periods not just the V1/V2 era. Reasonable entrance price too €14 .
Mark L — Google review
The place is impressive, and worth visiting. Adding the planetarium is a must, especially if you are visiting woth kids. I missed more information about the site itself, the visit felt more like an overview of WWII. The website is also pretty outdated and hard to navigate. Tip: bring a jacket, it is very cold inside the tunnel!!!
Bernardo P — Google review
I didn’t know what to expect when visiting this museum — I went in completely blind, having done no prior research and only using ChatGPT to help plan my holiday itinerary. I was genuinely in awe when the huge concrete megastructure suddenly came into view as I drove into the car park. It was completely unexpected and an impressive sight to behold. The exhibits, supported by clear and informative supplementary information, made the visit both engaging and enjoyable. That said, a few areas felt a little empty, and additional displays could have further enriched what was otherwise a very well-presented museum. One highlight was the interactive tablet and headset experience, which elevated the visit and made the museum even more immersive. The on-site café was also a pleasant surprise, serving tasty food and drinks at very reasonable prices.
MilPoPo — Google review
Took my Band of Gamers tour group here on October 2, 2023. The site was absolutely amazing. In addition to the history of the V2 program, the site also presented information on the slave labour the Nazis used to work on this complex - very sobering. In 2019 my group visited the V3 site Mymoceques but we didn't have time to come here. I'm glad we took the time to see it this time. Highly recommend.
Rob B — Google review
If your near by and even have the remotest interest in history, or humanity, go. But bewarned it hits hard. Think about if taking small children is a good idea or not, there are some articles which will need to be explained, but then should be. Will never forget it.
Mike K — Google review
One of the best museums I've visited. As well as the sheer scale of the WW2 remains, it also tells you why, and how, and the human toll it took to build it. The audio-visio guides are superb and show you graphically how and why it was built. A superb museum, superb and friendly staff and a museum that leaves you astounded by the sheer scale. Superb.
Ian A — Google review
Its a beautiful and well preserved memory of the great and indeed insane ambitions of the Third Reich. Combine this visit with a visit to the Blockhaus or the V3 weapon and you'll see what optimism and a lot of money can do. Even though it's unfinished, you'll have a great impression of this site. The interactive tablets do a good job. Some expositions are sadly only in French and the lack of internet under earth invalidate on the fly translation apps. Pre-downloading translations helps. I'll still give it 5 stars. It will take you from 1914 well into the American space program, with a focus on WW2 in Northern France, the resistance and the eventual liberation.

Plage de Malo-les-Bains is a historic beach in Dunkirk, known for its role in the famous WWII evacuation. It's a must-visit for history buffs and offers a relaxing escape for beach lovers, sunbathers, and families. The vast white sand beach stretches 7 kilometers and features a pedestrian promenade lined with restaurants and beach huts. Visitors can enjoy swimming, sunbathing, or even play beach volleyball.
What a splendid beach this is! Huge, clean, fine sand. Even in the winter, with a little bit of sun and the salty breeze, it offers a special occasion to soak up some calmness for one's soul.
Emil S — Google review
The place itself is historic because of its relevance in WW2 Dunkirk Dynamo operation. Aside from that its overcrowded and overpriced (restaurants and bars). We had overall bad customer service everywhere. Maybe best to visit in spring or fall.
Fashionista — Google review
A beautiful beach steeped in history, with a stunning promenade stretching as far as the eye can see, lined with restaurants and bars along the seafront. For those drawn by the past, the area is filled with plaques and information boards commemorating Operation Dynamo. I walked up through Dunkirk town, past the museum and over the bridge to the beach. At the end of the bridge stands a striking monument as a reminder of what took place here in 1940, but standing on the sand and looking out over the beautiful beach, it’s hard to imagine the scenes that unfolded here all that time ago.
Jer C — Google review
Nice atmosphere. Beach was quiet. Loads of space. And a war historians pilgrimage for me. Amazing to think of all the brave souls who were here before.

Clean and huge and kilometer long beach area , very historical 1940 , as really nice to take a walk at the promenade , worth visiting for a nice ride on the bicycle , by walk or skateboard. Lots of parking possibilities , ice-cream , restaurants for nice lunch, there are toilets and showers and water to clean your sandy feet.

The beach where the allied soldiers mostly managed to make it back to fight another day from. Bit eerie but a beautiful beach.... Just couldnt help thinking about all those guys huddled up here waiting for their turn and getting attacked the whole time while they were all so close to home.....
Peter M — Google review
Huge sandy beach, but the town behind the beach was a little run down and needed a bit of reviving. Lots of building work (March 2019), so looks like improvements are happening. Went on a cold and windy day so it was very quiet and atmospheric - can imagine it being a good place to relax & enjoy the sun on a warm summer day.

One of my favorite beach in France, it's kilometers long, nice and sandy, and the water is shallow. There are bars and pubs with excellent food. I visited little time after watching the movie and I was impressed. The only thing is that the weather might be tricky in Dunkirk.

It is a very Beautiful, clean beach. I would Highly recommend to visit with family. Great ambiance with the shops around of all kinds of food. Waffles, ice cream, fries, restaurants and so many shops to rent the bicycles and mini scooters for children. There were little music groups for the entertainment. There was a full group of safe guards on the shore. There was a big wheel near the beach and many other sports like kite surfing. It was a weekend and a good weather day but still it was not so over packed.

Visitors can also enjoy Plopsaqua, a favorite among kids. Additionally, there's a hotel with delicious food and included dinner stays available for booking.
We had a brilliant day at Plopsaland, so much to do, the queues were either short or non existent even in the summer holidays (we went on a Friday). The range of rides and activities were great! We got the tram from De Panne, so easy. Highly recommend.
Amie C — Google review
Went on a Wednesday when the park was open from 10AM-10PM, and managed to get on an amazing 16 rides. Wait times were really good especially for The Ride to Happiness, with the longest queue being only 45 minutes. Food is very expensive so I recommend taking your own. Thank you to Leme at the Plopsaland Shop for being so helpful though with our visit and helping us to pick the best pin badges! Definitely will be coming back again!
Ryan W — Google review
Great the park. There are some great rides here. Mainly geared towards families with younger children (under 16), but you can not deny the presence of Ride To Happiness, which is clearly aimed at an older audience. Ride To Happiness is simply one of the best roller-coasters in the world, and it should be on everyone's bucket list.
David C — Google review
I really wanted to give the park 5 stars but some things are odd. First of all, why isn’t there any signage anywhere? Second, why isn’t there any information about waiting times? We were there on a Wednesday middle of October and it was really calm, Zero to little waiting times, even at the top rollercoaster “ride to happiness”, which is awesome! Most of the attractions are definitely for smaller kids, there are basically only three thrill rides, “happiness, Anubis and Heidi”. Would I come back just for this three rides on a calm day? Definitely! Would I come back on a busy summer weekend? For sure not.
Marco K — Google review
Loved this place and it really exceeded my expectations! We were staying in nearby de panne and it had a great transport link on the tram right into the theme park. Reasonably priced for the entry fee. We purchased the tickets the day before as this worked out cheaper than on the gate. This themepark has something for all the family and we were really lucky to not have long queues on the day we visited. Everyone loved Heidi and the Ride to Happiness. Lots of great food venues to choose from. Great theming throughout the park and decorated really well for Halloween. The parade was also fun and the whole day had a really fun, happy vibe! The plopsaland hotel looked lovely. Overall, a great day out and we would definitely return.
Kirstie F — Google review
Clean and tidy but way too busy and a ridiculous access pass system for families with younger children ! Wouldn’t say this park is value for money! The one good thing at this park is the ride of happiness which is in the top 5 coasters I have done .

We had an absolutely fantastic day at Plopsaland! From start to finish, everything exceeded our expectations. The park was beautifully clean, well-organised, and not at all busy, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, everyone we spoke to was cheerful and helpful, creating such a positive atmosphere throughout the day. One of the biggest highlights for us was “The Ride to Happiness” what an incredible rollercoaster! It’s easily one of the best rides we’ve ever been on. Thrilling, smooth, and full of surprises, we couldn’t resist going on it multiple times thanks to the short queues! Overall, we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The mix of fun attractions, friendly staff, and minimal waiting times made it a truly perfect day out. Highly recommend Plopsaland to anyone visiting Belgium, we’ll definitely be back! 🎢✨

I’ve been to this amusement park a couple of times. Overall, it’s mainly focused on small kids. The only attraction that truly stands out for adults is ‘The Ride to Happiness by Tomorrowland’— absolutely amazing and worth the visit on its own. A few downsides: queues can get really long on sunny days. Food is available at many kiosks, but it’s very basic and extremely overpriced. Parking isn’t free either. Also, expect heavy traffic when arriving and leaving the park, especially during weekends or holidays.

A really beautiful place to enjoy the nature and drink a coffee. The garden is pretty (not soo big) and well cared. For me it wasn’t a wow moment but still a visit earned and I’d visit it a second time. The price is a bit high but understandable. Must visit with children who are interested in learning history. We were hoping to finish visiting this place in couple of hours. But once we were there realised how much there is to see and learn. Beautifully managed historical place. As we started our tour the person who gave us our map was fantastic at explaining how to go about the place. We ended up spending a whole day at this site.

An incredible, well-preserved piece of history and a truly memorable experience. The tour lasts over three hours, walking through bunkers, tunnels, and open-air remains while learning about World War history. It’s fascinating to stand inside structures built so many decades ago — even before our great-great-great-grandparents were born! At the start, they give you an audio guide device that vibrates and pops up information whenever you reach a landmark;I loved that feature. The site is very well-organized, and everything is clearly explained. It’s also amazing to stand by the sea during the tour and imagine what it must have been like back then. I definitely recommend packing some snacks and lots of water or drinks, because it’s a long walk and you’ll be tired by the end. Wear comfortable shoes (open or closed), as there’s quite a bit of walking involved. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the Belgian coast and interested in history.

Came here in Oostende for holidays, and I was met with this amazing WW1/WW2 Museum. I decided to visit it with my friends and family since I love to learn everything related to WW1 and WW2, and I was not disappointed. The entry is relatively cheap for so much you can explore. We got told that a visit would take 2 hours, but we ended up exploring it for about 3 hours! You’re given a map with a route that follows a certain route. It leads you to explore the WW1 route first and then the WW2 route. You’re also given a device (a sort of phone) which is probably the most useful thing i’ve seen in a museum so far. It offers various things: - Audios: In the WW2 route, there are numbers marked on some doors where you can listen to information about that certain part -Location based information: It has some sort of tracker where, when you pass a certain area, it pops up images, maps, small videos and more information about that certain area. Furthermore, the organisation, preservation and info boards are very good. It makes reading, as well as learning, much more enjoyable. There are some areas in bunkers/underground routes, where you’re met with realistic war sounds, such as airplanes flying, bombs exploding and gunshots that give you that eerie experience of what soldiers had to endure day by day. Finally, there are some TVs with small videos that explain certain events (How people survived during bombings, how the germans used their fortifications to defend the coast, how they used math to calculate the distance of the enemy’s ship, etc..) Overall, it was a pleasant experience. As someone who loves everything about WW1/WW2, this museum is absolutely amazing and well explained. Totally recommend to take a moment to visit it and learn what the Belgian coast had to endure, as well as what happened in WW1/WW2 in general. Fantastic, will come here one day with more friends and family again!

Fantastic open air museum about the German fortifications along the Atlantic coast in Word Wars I and II. The exihibition is extremely well done, with replicas and original pieces that not only show the military aspects of the fortifications but also the everyday life of both soldiers and local citizens. We went with two kids (7 and 10) and despite the gloomy topics, the exhibition is also suited for kids, with a map and a quiz for kids to explore the area. Highly recommended!

I have always wanted to live this experience as long as I can remember (my father was para for a while and his stories of skydiving fascinated me). The team is great, naturally reassuring. My tandem was adorable and added a friendly, even downright family, atmosphere to the jump. Thank you to the team and especially to my teammate for this unforgettable moment! 🫶🏽 (Original) J'ai fait mon saut en tandem avec Jonathan (il me semble, je n'ai pas la mémoire des noms 🥲) samedi après-midi. Catastrophe!!! Trams are overcrowded and the frequency is too low. Very often you can't get on the tram at all!!! The vehicles themselves are uncomfortable and there is little space in them. I don't understand why, when replacing the tram fleet, it was not decided to use longer vehicles, since the tram stops can handle trams that are several meters longer. This is an unacceptable situation for me.

Museums
The In Flanders Fields Museum, located in Ypres, Belgium, is housed within the town's Cloth Hall and is dedicated to studying the First World War. The museum aims to convey the futility of war through historical exhibits that depict the suffering and impact on both soldiers and civilians during wartime. Named after John McCrae's famous poem, the museum does not glorify war but rather serves as a poignant reminder of its horrors.
One of the most powerful museums I’ve ever visited. The In Flanders Fields Museum is more than just a museum — it’s an emotional and educational experience about World War I. Everything is well-organized, with interactive displays, videos, original objects, and personal stories that really make you feel connected to the past. The building itself, the Cloth Hall, is beautiful and full of history. I also recommend climbing the tower — the view over Ypres is amazing. A place that makes you think, feel, and truly understand the cost of war. A must-visit in Ypres.
Ruben Q — Google review
Definitely worth a visit. Some interactive information. A number of short video presentations, either in English of with subtitles. Displays of WWI uniforms, munitions etc. Cafe and toilets on ground floor. Option to visit the bell tower, quite a number of steps, but even on a dull rainy day worth the visit.
Paul P — Google review
was here on a bus tour from brussels, entrance was included in our tour. -When we arrived our guide gave us poppy wrist bands for entrance, they also activate things. -Typical museum, different displays of uniforms, weapons, artifacts, stories and maps. There is a small theater to hear real stories from nurses during the war -Souvenir and book shop at the end of the tour. -The museum is in the largest building in town, the old town hall, so you cant miss it. -There was also a small flea/garage sale going on right outside of it. People selling random things. There was one or 2 selling war artifacts, not sure it authentic.
Adam C — Google review
One of the main museums, if not the main museum one can visit when retracing the Western Front and the WW1 trail. Located within a splendid building in the centre of Ypres. The museum is immersive with key station points for your audio guide to be activated, a very clever poppy band that also activated key points throughout the museum. Lots of videos of reenactments, great displays and lots of key information that can even make one who may know a lot, to think further. Very accessible and decently priced.
Richard P — Google review
Great museum focusing on WW1 and the surrounding battles. Take advantage of the opportunity to climb to the top of the bell tower during your visit. Allow at least 2 hours for a comprehensive visit. There is also a small cafe and well stocked book shop. Parking is usually available in the public square outside.
Phoenixpooh — Google review
Excellent museum with lots of interactive displays and videos. A brilliant telling of the experiences of the solders and civilians in the Ypres salient during the First World War. Very powerful and moving. All contained in the fabulous building rebuilt after the war.

I visited for two main reasons. First is that my Great Grandfather was a gunner with the RGA in the 3rd Battle of Ypres and not only was it a miracle that he survived but also the diary he kept of his experiences, which is a moving read. After transcribing this a few years ago, I have been researching the contents and the day I visited the museum was part of that and found it so interesting and informative. The layout is quite modern and I liked the use of videos with actors recreating the experiences, especially the medical staff. The other reason I was visiting is that my Great Uncle Charles was killed in 1915 and as he has no known grave, his name is inscribed on the nearby Menin Gate. The impact of his death, and that of his brother who was killed in action only a few weeks later, is still remembered by our family and I was also trying to find out more about his death. For both of these family members, I did manage to find out really useful additional information. Even if you are not like me and researching a specific family member, this is definitely worth visiting and is suitable for younger children with adult supervision. Our teen children found it interesting and we need to ensure the younger generation are aware of the events of 1914-18. There is an entry fee and you can pay extra for an audio tour and visit to the tower. We didn't do the latter two due to time restraints (we managed to get in for last entry time as we had had a busy day of visiting other sites which had to fit in 1 day) We hadn't pre-booked but no issues with that.

Check events going on in Square before booking! We booked the three bedroom apartment for Friday and Saturday on the basis it was nice and close to everything for our family of 4 kids and 2 adult. The apartment had plenty of room for our family although the beds weren't large but there was a concert on in the market square on the Saturday night that was very loud and continued until almost midnight. Our children were older and did manage to get some sleep, but if you had smaller, noise sensitive children or adults, you would have been quite annoyed. There is a toilet downstairs as well as upstairs, and the stairs are metal and unforgiving, but there is a lift that you need to have a key on to use. If you enter it without the key and the doors shut, you can't get out- as one of our children discovered!

Menin Gate is a significant British war memorial located in Ypres, Belgium. It bears the names of 54,896 soldiers from the British and Commonwealth forces who went missing during World War I. The gate serves as a poignant reminder of the immense human sacrifice of war. Every day, visitors can witness the moving Last Post ceremony at this iconic site.
The daily remembrance service is staffed by various armed forces, affiliates, clubs, groups, and personnel each evening at 8pm. A very moving and touching service happens rain or shine and is there to remember all those lost in conflict. Lest we forget. The names of the fallen are engraved on tablets that adorn the walls of the gate itself. There is a very beautiful garden with flowers and trees just up and adjacent to the gate that is well worth a visit too.
Brian C — Google review
A sombre place - 'a First World War memorial in Ypres, Belgium, dedicated to the missing British and Commonwealth soldiers who have no known grave in the Ypres Salient, with their names engraved on the walls of the memorial.' - I felt choked up approaching this place remembering my relatives that served here including my grandfather wounded at Passchendaele. We also saw groups of school kids, including some Indian students, and their teacher and a male and female student carried a wreath to lay remembering Indians who served as part of the British Empire.
Ultimobile — Google review
I was here twice in one day, on a bus tour from brussels. Once around lunch, and then once at 7pm to stay for the 8pm last post ceremony. -Its a large "Gate" building, the functions as a road as well except at 8pm, when police close the road for the last post ceremony. The sidewalk is also roped off, you cannot cross this gate into or out of city between 7:50pm-8:20pm, by foot or car. -You can walk up the steps in the middle to the upper parts on either side, its more walls of names. -You can participate in the last post Ceremony if you have a poppy wreath similar to theirs. You can bring from home, or Buy a wreath at the "Info shop" across the road from the gate, inside the city. The man running the ceremony said they never turn away someone that wants to participate. -The last post ceremony gets busy, we arrived 1 hour before to be sure we got front row, and we did, but it does get busy. The ceremony itself is about 10min long, with a short trumpet call, then a short speech, then people walk up and put wreaths, and then trumpets again, and its over. The guide said sometimes there is more people putting wreaths, sometimes there is more speeches, sometimes more music performances, so it could take longer sometimes. Overall it was a nice memorial to the fallen soldiers
Adam C — Google review
Have visited a few times before. Last time (2024) it was closed for restoration, all done now and looking great. There’s an office on site where they will help you locate the name of a lost family member. (Don’t try to read all the names or you’ll never find the one you want). If your schedule allows, stay for the Last Post ceremony, done every day. Right in the town centre of Ypres, a beautiful place to visit.
Bonnie E — Google review
Must visit if you are in the area. Visited 2 evenings in a row for the last post ceremony. Very emotional and a sombre occasion. Called into the CWGC shop across the road too
William W — Google review
This is a must visit site in Ypres, especially at 8pm every day when the last post is played. It is remarkable that this service happens every day of the year more than 100 years after WW1, but then it remains as poignant and relevant today as ever (sadly). We attended on two consecutive nights, one night with the Honourable Artillery Company Regimental Band playing (incredible) the next with a female choral choir. Both were very moving. I estimated about 500 people attended both nights. The four or five horn players of the last post were clearly very experienced. The gate itself is a mini-museum, and it is very impactful to see the thousands of names of lost soldiers from so many countries. Really, everyone should visit this site.
Chris B — Google review
The gate is a large memorial to the British Empire and Dominions troops that were killed in the Great War. It was built in the 1920s and has the names of 54,000 allied servicemen who lost their lives but have no known grave, inscribed on panels inside the building. It is sited on the road that the troops used to march along to reach the nearby Ypres salient, scene of fighting for pretty much the entire war. It is also where the famous Last Post ceremony takes place. We read the CWGC information boards and saw the information on the hill next to the gate and then we walked through the galleries with the names of the fallen before joining the crowds to listen to the ceremony. I was surprised at how busy it was and the ceremony itself lasted about 15 minutes but the colonnade was full 45 minutes before it started. It was a lovely ceremony with the Last Post and then two songs sung by St Anthony's Catholic Girl School from Market Weighton.

A must see experience. Lots of emotions. Make up your own mind as to a celebration of war or a monument against it! A waste of human life for a just cause or maybe a monument against war. A lesson from history about the waste of war and its leaders who send men to there death! Looking at the world at the moment, have we learned? But to those who lost their lives a very moving monument.

The Canadian National Vimy Memorial is a significant site in France dedicated to honoring the Canadian soldiers who lost their lives during World War I. Designed by Canadian architect Walter Seymour Allward, the memorial stands at the highest point of Vimy Ridge and serves as a tribute to the members of the Canadian Expeditionary Force who have no marked graves. The surrounding park preserves the untouched battlefield of the Battle of Vimy Ridge.
What an experience!! Makes me proud to be Canadian! I visited several things like Normandy and this one here is a must!! Everything is free, land was given to Canada so Canadians are sent to work there. They do tours and maintain everything. It’s an excellent experience with everything well explained! There’s plenty to see. I didn’t have time to walk the forest, but would have loved to. One can spend a solid half a day here! Must stop to see!!

What an epic monument, set in a beautiful location…. Its scale and design is awe inspiring and on a sunny day is truly epic… Those that give this monument less than 5 stars due to political or petty reasons really need to have a word with themselves… the people this monument represents are those that paid the ultimate sacrifice for the safety and security of their nation.
MilPoPo — Google review
Very important memorial for a historical battle won by the Canadians. I rented a car out of Paris and made a day trip just to see this memorial. As a Canadian I felt the need to visit, and I was very glad I did. This memorial is what is on the Canadian Twenty Dollar Bill, photo attached.

A truly beautiful and serene memorial site that offers a meaningful experience for visitors. The exhibits onsite are thoughtfully curated and provide valuable historical and emotional context. The grounds are well-maintained, with clean bathrooms and a conveniently located vending machine for refreshments. Visitors are encouraged to maintain a respectful demeanor throughout their time here, as the site honors important memories and lives. Unfortunately, during my visit, a group of disrespectful youths disrupted the peaceful atmosphere, which detracted somewhat from the experience. This is a place for quiet reflection, and those unable to behave appropriately should consider visiting elsewhere. Overall, I highly recommend this memorial for anyone seeking a moment of reflection, education, or tribute. A truly moving and dignified place.
Khad B — Google review
What an absolutely incredible site. It is so much larger than I expected, very well maintained, and full of sobering reminders of the devastation and reality of World War I. There are intact fields of no man’s land full of craters and misshapen features. The monument is significant in size and impression . When we arrived, there were many bus loads of French students here to learn about the history of this battle. It was nice to see the site so well used for education. My father-in-law’s uncle died here, and he is named after that uncle. It was an emotional experience to find his name on the memorial. One of the French teacher, teachers and student students were excited to discover this connection, and they surrounded him with cheers and hugs, and it was very emotional for everyone. The only complaint is the lack of the accessibility. My parents in law are elderly and had a very difficult time making the walk to the monument. If one improvement could be made, it is making a site significantly more accessible for the disabled and the elderly. I would highly recommend this site to anyone, especially any Canadians travelling through the area.

Unbelievable well-preserved trenches from both sides!........You cannot say that you enjoyed it, because of the horrors of what occurred here! But it is a fitting memorial where you can take a moment to actually witness in real life and reflect on the futility of the First World War and sacrifice of the poor soldiers on both sides who never came home!

The Louvre-Lens Museum is a contemporary gallery that showcases artworks from the Louvre in Paris, as well as temporary exhibits. The Galerie du Temps offers a unique and minimalistic display of art from Europe, the Near East, Egypt, and India. Unlike traditional museums, the artworks are not hung on perimeter walls but are arranged geographically and chronologically to create a three-dimensional experience for visitors.
The Louvre-Lens may not be as vast as the Louvre in Paris, but it’s a remarkable museum in its own right. Its collection is impressive, and you can’t help but be drawn in. What makes it even more enjoyable is the lack of crowds, allowing you plenty of time to observe and fully immerse yourself in the art.

We used this as a pit stop while on a road trip, and it exceeded my expectations. The museum is free and enables you to see loads of incredible art. I loved the layout in the main room, with artefacts in chronological order. The information was really useful along with some fun activities for children/adults. The museum itself is not grand, but I think that adds to its appeal. What seems quite ordinary from the outside opens up into an airy and spacious blank canvas for the art to stand out against. I don't know if we could have spent too long here, which is why I have marked it down a star. However there seemed to be cafés and other paid exhibitions which you could delight yourself with. Free parking, free museum. Excellent stuff.

The Mona Lisa has become a cruel joke. One of the most beautiful paintings you'll see but everyone has their back to it to take selfies. So you are looking at them not the Mona Lisa. This painting dominates the experience. Advantage is you get to see Liberty Leading the People and my favourite the statue and mosaics from Persia with very little crowds. I used a guide to usher us in which cost 40e but saved about 3 hours queuing so well worth it.

The bell tower of Aras, about 75 m high, is a real treasure of Gothic architecture. It was destroyed during the First World War but was accurately restored with reinforced concrete in non -visible parts. The view from the top is indescribable: you see the squares with the Flemish baroque buildings, the panoramic views of Aras, the countryside around the city. The ascent is a nice experience: you go up with an elevator and then about 30 steps on a twist staircase and thus reach the top. There it can blow quite a bit, so it takes a little attention. The bell tower was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005. It is an experience that combines history and architecture and is ideal for those who wish to look from the city.

Very good place to overlook the Hero Square. It costs entrance fee to enter. There is a very small exhibition included in the fare as well. Some stairs need to be taken to access the panoramic view. You might want to be extra careful if having bad knees.

Easiest belltower ever, its been rebuilt after ww1 and they put an elevator in! Under the belfort are historic caves.

Beautiful building with a high tower who offers wonderful views of Arras. In the coronavirus time, the tower visit costs 9 euros one person and 20 euros for a group of 3 ( same family). To visit the tower you take a lift fist and climb 43 steps to the door to get out. You have 15 minutes in total for the visit. It is a must see in Arras.

Great place to go, beautiful views from the tower

Interesting post-war architecture. All rather grand, but not to my taste. A trip up the bell tower is made a lot easier thanks to the lift! Great views, obviously.

Grand Place Hotel is a chic boutique hotel located in the center of town. The rooms and apartments are spacious and well-designed, with free Wi-Fi for guests to enjoy. The hotel also features a trendy restaurant and bar. The staff at Grand Place Hotel are exceptional, always willing to go the extra mile to assist guests. While the location is convenient for exploring central places, it can be noisy due to its proximity to the town center.
We had a great experience at this hotel. The room was lovely, service was welcoming and very helpful and breakfast was good. Hope to return again one day.

Very well located, nice design, friendly staff however ; coffee machine in room that doesn’t work. Nicely designed showers that are poorly installed. A smell of wood rot from humidity permeated the room. Not the hotels fault but there was a rave next door that kept me up all night. Booming bass making my eardrums contract. Managed to even record the bass on video. Breakfast to be desired. Another coffee machine that was broken. The flies others have remarked are still there in the dead of winter. Also saw the staff fill up the beans with decaf coffee…. Kind of need caffeine in the morning. Very contrasting experience to say the least. Maybe willing to try again…

Stayed a couple of weeks ago, had an amazing room located in the loft, it was lovely, it was somehow very grand but very cosy at the same time. Things I wasn’t so keen on were the bathroom it didn’t have a door on it, the fridge smelt terrible and although the breakfast was nice when things ran out they didn’t replenish them, not ideal when you have 2 hungry teenagers with you. However I would stay again.

Honestly I’m not sure what to think about this place. The location is surely great and the rooms are potentially nice. However, on 4 pillows we had, all of them were all full of other people’s hair (plus one was also dirty of something unspecified). We headed down to the reception to discuss this with the receptionist, but we couldn’t find anyone as it seems she was gone as soon as we checked-in. We decided to use the bathroom towels to cover the pillows as we didn’t know what to do in those circumstances and with two children very tired. In the morning, we headed down for breakfast and when opening up one of the cereal jars, this was already shattered in pieces with many glass pieces already inside the jar. A clear hazard for health and safety. We immediately called the receptionist and she of course apologised and asked if we were ok, but didn’t take away the jar, which I was wondering if could it be a danger for other potential guests as pieces of glass were inside where the cereal were. I hope she took this away later at least! Also no one was speaking English. Luckily I speak a little French (not good enough for a fluent conversation though) so communication was kinda intermittent as we couldn’t have a proper full conversation. It is an OK place for one night. However, it needs some serious cleaning improvements in relation to cleaning and food safety. Such a shame because the building is nice and the location is excellent to explore the city. There is also an underground parking lot with an exit directly on the square.

I was delighted with this hotel. My room on the top floor was roomy and stylish. Admittedly, it only had a skylight window, apart from in the bathroom, but that was fine with me. And I loved my huge freestanding bath in the bedroom! The location could not be better. I would definitely choose this hotel again.

My family of five stayed in one of the third floor apartments on our way down to the Provence. This hotel has a wonderful setting; the Grand-Place d’Arras. Our room looked over the square. The room was well appointed and modern. It had a mezzanine floor with a second double bed, and a comfortable sofa bed for two. The bathroom is semi open plan. Our children are young so showering without a door was no issue for us but for families with older children, leaving the room to avoid embarrassing the bathroom user would be needed. There is a coffee pod machine; not Nespresso though. Our room was in one of the spectacular scalloped gable-ends of the buildings which flank the Grand-Place. The overall décor of the hotel is modern and well designed. There is lots of monochrome schemes with good lighting. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. My family will certainly return to this welcoming place.

Shower is leaking towards to the door of the room which is 3 meters away. Stayed one night as a couple. Cleaned the room 4 times after shower. I did the cleaning 4 times and paid 100 euros. We could see the wood ground was damaged because of water from previous travelers.

Great place. Our duplex room facing the main square was fabulous. The staff and host were absolutely fantastic and would go extra mile to help, if needed. It is slap in the middle of town centre (mind the noise, though), so in walking distance of all central places. Parking outside is free, though not sure if it is valid on work days. Overall, if you are considering staying in Arras, I can easily recommend this place.

The Memorial Museum Passchendaele 1917, located in the historic castle grounds of Zonnebeke, offers a poignant and vivid portrayal of the historical narrative of World War I, with special emphasis on the Battle of Passchendaele. This battle in 1917 is renowned as one of the most harrowing conflicts of the war, resulting in nearly 600,000 casualties for a mere eight-kilometer territorial shift.
I have visited a number of museums and this is the best. It immerses you in the whole WW1 experience. Whether its the bunker underground or the 360% experience of what it was like, to the trench system, you can get an appreciation of what it must have been like for these soldiers. Highly recommend
Tomas N — Google review
Well worth the visit, especially, in my opinion, those with kids as they will absolutely love the immersive (recreated) dug out and trenches. An impressive making and simulation of what a trench would look or feel like. The museum is packed with information, mostly relating to the battle of Passchendale itself but also to the wider western front. The Audi guides are a great tool to have to guide you throughout and the museum itself sits in a wider memorial park area which is just beautiful. There is more parking a little further up the road if the main car park is full. Plenty of spaces to have a picnic in the surrounding parks. The museum itself probably hosts the friendliest and helpful staff you could ever encounter.

What a wonderful museum dedicated to the soldiers of WW1. The audio guide has all the information about each room and bunkers you visit. For me the most moving insight was the interactive cinema which gave an insight into the hard, difficult conditions the soldier's fought in. The underground tunnels and trenches were also an interesting eye opener into the fighting in WW1. Allow at least a couple of hours to really appreciate the whole museum

An essential visit for anyone interested in not only the military side of the 1917 battle but also the impact on the civilians. For me, this was a deeply personal and emotional visit as my Great Grandfather served the 1917 Battle and kept a diary of his experiences of being a British Gunner in the Royal Garrison Artillery. Amazingly the diary survived and therefore I visited as part of my research into his experiences and thanks to this museum I learned so much more. The trenches experience was really interesting and there is an excellent audio guide that takes you through the whole museum. We didn't buy tickets in advance but had no wait to enter. There is a shop and cafe nearby.

What a beautiful museum,ao much history of what happened at Passendale. You get to experience the underground living of the troops and has a wide selection of artifacts from the war. Some things putting things into perspective. You can also just spend time in their park which is also clean and scenic...just avoid the tour groups of children...most of them still have alot of energy from the long bus rides 😅

Cool museum, especially the recreation of the dug-outs and trenches are noteworthy. Also I suggest taking a few minutes for the immersive experience on the battle of Passendale.

Carrière Wellington, located in Arras, Hauts-de-France, is a significant historical site that offers guided tours and exhibits detailing its strategic use during the Battle of Arras in 1917. The tunnels served as a shelter for 24,000 British Empire troops awaiting an unprecedented attack. Recently renovated and reopened in November 2021, the memorial provides an immersive journey back in time.
I highly recommend visiting this site. Especially for people interested in history and for those who lost a family member on that fateful day. For me, it was an emotional day as I was walking in the footsteps of my great grandfather who lost his life in the Battle of Arras. The guide was really good, however, I would have preferred if the tour was solely in English as opposed to bilingual, I felt we missed some points.

We had a tour guide named Manon who explained the Battle of Arras and how thousands of French and Brits worked to build the tunnel. We were brought underground and it was cold and dark, a combination of videos and sounds made the experience even more vivid. North France made a perfect world war tour
Melissa M — Google review
An excellent starting point if you are going to visit the various memorials in the area. The guided tour of the underground areas and the history explanation is detailed and very sobering to see what the soldiers went through over 100 years ago.

A profoundly moving experience, the tour of the tunnels flowed effortlessly from start to finish, Merci Isabelle and our guide Mathais. A worthy tribute of rememberance to the Kiwis who worked underground to prepare for the 1917 Battle of Arras, a humbling experience that is sensitive to the memory of those men and to their living descendants. Thank you to everyone involved in preserving the history. Lest we forget.

Truly impressive ww1 tunneling site occupied by the Kiwis prior to the 1917 battle of Arras. Guided tour with an English speaking guide , the subterranean tour is fascinating, sad, and stunning all at once.

Below the city of Aras there is an extensive network of underground galleries, known as "Les Boves". These tunnels, which later became shelters for soldiers during World War I, are a unique and historic underground world. Excavated from the Middle Ages (and possibly from Roman times), the tunnels under Aras were originally used as storage areas by merchants and provided the limestone needed for the buildings built there until the 19th century. From the autumn of 1916, special tunnels were being constructed to connect the old ones to each other so that they would be ready for battle. There were 500 of them, built by the New Zealand Tunnel Company, which exploited experienced British miners, as well as the so-called "Bantam Soldiers", who were relatively short for British soldiers. For four months, the workers dug in eight-hour shifts, 24 hours a day. By the morning of the Battle of Aras (April 1917), they had completed 20 kilometers of electrically lit tunnels. The tunnels were named after New Zealand"s capital, Wellington (Carrière Wellington) and eventually turned into more than just tunnels, housing large warehouses, meeting rooms, kitchens, toilets, a hospital and a small railway network. The individual tunnels were named after New Zealand cities, from north to south, so that soldiers could find their way underground. The network of underground tunnels stretched about 20 kilometers below the city and allowed soldiers to go directly to the front lines of the war. 24,000 soldiers were underground the night before the battle. Used both as shelters and for the movement of troops during the offensive, the tunnels contributed to the success of the Battle of Aras. Despite the many casualties - an estimated 158,000 Allied soldiers and about 120,000 Germans were killed - the sudden attack in April 1917 was generally regarded as a tactical success, leading the Allies to the final victory. During World War II, the tunnels were reused by locals as shelters against air raids before being resealed in 1945 and forgotten, until they were rediscovered in 1990. In 2008 the tunnels were opened to the public as part of a new museum dedicated to the memory of those who served in World War I, with a particular focus on the tunnel workers and soldiers who lived and fought under the city.

Tyne Cot Cemetery & Visitors Centre is a significant World War I cemetery located on the Battle of Passchendaele site, housing around 11,900 graves of Commonwealth soldiers. The cemetery is known for being the world's largest British Commonwealth war cemetery and features a huge semicircular wall commemorating 34,857 soldiers lost in action.
Most beautifully maintained & best cared-for war cemetery I’ve seen anywhere in the world. This is really the gold standard. Hats off to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, funded by the UK & 6 Commonwealth countries, for so thoughtfully maintaining this. Lovely to see student groups & remembrance continuing.

The scale of this cemetery is staggering - it isn't just the number of graves but how many are unknown soldiers. I visited for several reasons. First is that my Great Grandfather fought in the 3rd Battle of Ypres and not only did he miraculously survived but so did the diary he kept of his experiences. I know that some of his comrades died and possibly buried here/named on the memorial wall so I wanted to pay my respects. There is also a memorial to the Sherwood Foresters, which several of my family members were part of so wanted to view this too. Finally my Great Uncle Charles, who was a Sherwood Forester, was killed in action locally but has no known grave. My research points to this being one of the two possible last resting places for him. It would take hours to view each grave, and we had limited time here, but I did spot a grave of an unknown Sherwood Forester and I would like to think that perhaps this is Charles and he guided me here. As with all Commonwealth War Cemeteries, this is beautifully maintained and is a fitting memorial to all those laid to rest here. There is a visitors centre along with free parking. Take tissues as you will have tears in your eyes. Free to visit.

This is the largest British Commonwealth military cemetery in the world with 12,000 marked graves and a further 35,000 names on the memorial plaques, where the bodies of the missing could not be found. Tyne Cot is the name of the German blockhouse, painted to look like a cottage, that was part of a defensive line responsible for so many deaths. It is now the base of the Remembrance Cross. The graves are very well tended by the CWGC and there were lots of visitors including two coach trips of schoolkids. We probably spent an hour in the Visitors Centre and Cemetery and also looking at the terrain that was being fought across and it was a very sobering experience. Luckily, as we left, there was a spaniel that was the happiest dog in the world so that injected some much needed positivity into the morning.
Marcus H — Google review
Tyne Cot Cemetary is the largest resting place for British and Commonwealth troops who lost their lives in WW1, especially those who fought in Passchendaele, the 3rd battle of Ypres. Its name derives from the Northumberland Fusiliers who thought the many German pill boxes looked like Tyneside workman cottages and was abbreviated to Tyne cots. My visit on 17th September 2025 was particularly poignant for me as it was on the occasion of my late father's birthday who was born in 1918 and his father, my grand-père Charles Villaret, was with the French First Army that supported the British offensive in 1917 at Passchendaele - he looked after the horses and obviously survived whereas many of his comrades and horses didn't. The cemetery, like others in Belgium, is taken great care of by the War Graves Commission and it's a special place to remember and pay tribute to the sacrifices made by British and AZTEC troops. However, it's alot to take in and probably requires more than one visit. It was busy when I went with a number of guided tours taking place.

A remarkable cemetery of those who sacrificed their lives. Beautifully maintained by the CWWGC. Have visited several times over the years. The calling of names of those who lost their lives on the route to the very small exhibition is quite profound. The exhibition has changed over the years but worth a look. Good parking. Toilets are 0.50€.

What a place. So peaceful, very well kept. You can't believe when looking out that it was the location of such devastation and loss.
Stuart B — Google review
First visit to Tyne Cot. Slightly confusing how to get in from the Visitors Centre. We did walk to this first and the display and information boards were very good. However there were no signs to say how to get into the cemetery from the Visitors Centre. The front entrance is directly opposite the car park. It’s a small gate which leads out onto the main portico of the cemetery. Note the cemetery shuts at 6pm. Once inside the sight of so many graves and names on the walls is over bearing. The enormous loss of life is so disturbing. In what was a war where life was given over for military tactic. In a place we’re not much land was taken and in some places 95 lives lost per 3 acre leaves you to question why? So much destruction in a few short years and all for land and power. The Commonwealth war graves keep the cemetery in excellent condition and the constant roll of names over the tannoy is keeping the memory of those fallen alive. Somewhere everyone should visit.
