Mountain funicular ride with Thüringen Forest views & an open-air train car in summer.
Great experience of riding this train. We took this on a Saturday and it was not crowded at all. Station is right next to the platform for the flat train. Worth doing this route one time.
Vivek K — Google review
Nice little mountain train. Runs approximately every half an hour and it’s immaculate clean. Very friendly staff. Parking available. When at the top , why not using the Bergbahn to Cursdorf sand then walk back via Oberweißbach and visit the Thüringer Glasbläser. ( glass blower)! Worth a visit.
Alex T — Google review
This wasn't as I expected. I saw some pictures of trains mounted on each other, so this is what I was expecting. In reality, it was an open train compartment to the top and there you could switch to another train. The ladies that did the info tour did make up for the disappointment.
Marlies F — Google review
So unexpected and therefore so wonderful. Love it

It was fun! Especially in the summer when there is a Cabrio Car. It is a short ride but worth it.

Panorama Museum

Specialty Museums
We hiked up from Bad Frankenhausen. Nice little Hike. This is an impressive Museum. The Painting is amazing and captures the history of this Battle really well. When we got there it was pretty empty. The Cafe closes at 4pm. Worth a visit for sure if you are in the area
Terence H — Google review
Great experience with all the background information, but especially at the entrance area unprofessional staff.
Mathias G — Google review
Magnificent piece of art and a good display putting it into context. But it is difficult to understand the museum displays if you do not speak English and you don't know much about the Reformation and the German Peasants' War. The audio guide is useful for understanding the painting. To a certain extent though it felt like the town is embarrassed by this Museum and sees it as a relic of the GDR they would rather not have. ButI do encourage you to visit and celebrate the struggles of the past for freedom and a world without exploitation and oppression. La Lutte Continua, as they say.
Martin E — Google review
Super intetesting place. Even more so if you do a little research about the whole project beforehand. Entrance fee is 8€ per adulte. I took a guided tour for 1€ extra. It wasn't bad but a little boring. Definitely worth seeing for the scale of the painting alone
Karen M — Google review
A unique experience that's definitely unlike the multitude of cathedrals and old towns in the region. The long-version audioguide is 1h 15min is outstanding and is a must to receive the full experience. While created mostly in the 1980s, it has nothing to do with the DDR philosophy, though the painting is full of symbolism and meaning. A pair of binoculars would be helpful if you happen to have it with you. Allow enough time for the visit - at least 1.5 hours.
Oleg K — Google review
If you’re an art purist then this is possibly not the place for you ... but for anyone else it’s worth making a significant detour to visit this stunning panorama. The “purist” question is why a mid 20th century painter should produce a work rather reminiscent of, say, Bruegel. Yet the work is extremely well executed, with a mass of detail in each of the several scenes that make up its enormous 14m high circle, with a circumference of 123 metres. The English language audio guide is excellent and adds greatly to enjoying the work - we opted for the shorter version, which we felt gave a good level of detail. The painting is also a fascinating piece of social history, having been commissioned by the East German Government, to present the Peasants’ War as part of the glorious legacy of their people ... yet the painting does nothing to glorify the struggle of the “Peasants”, and is full of religious imagery that would normally have been an anathema to the Government ... you have to wonder just how happy the sponsors were with the results of their commission. The museum restaurant is good (of its type!). Interestingly, its menu features some typical DDR dishes, although these are not highlighted as such. When visiting the museum, make sure you also go into Bad Frankenhausen to see the church with the (steeply!) leaning steeple. If visiting by public transport, especially in the winter season, there are several more buses on weekdays than at the weekend. Also, note that some of the advertised buses run only if requested by phone two hours in advance! However, “normal” services run to and from Artern station. If arriving by bus walk up to the “crooked church” and then either follow the road to the museum car park, or the footpath that goes more directly up the hill. In places the footpath is quite steep and not made up, but it is an attractive walk.
George H — Google review
Very interesting museum, worlds largest panorama painting. The location may be somewhat weird and far away from other sites. Nevertheless it's worth the journey if you like art. It's really impressive. Although it's created during DDR adminidtrstion the artist himself calls it a "Christian painting". Take the audiotour, it's worth every penny (EUR 1,-).
Reinier S — Google review
amazing psychedelic painting - the audio tour is 30mins and give a broad overview. the museum is huge but was nearly empty when we visited

Krämerbrücke

Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
Krämerbrücke, also known as the chandlers bridge, is a historic landmark in Erfurt, Germany. It is the longest inhabited bridge in Europe and features half-timbered houses that now house galleries, cafes, antique shops, and boutiques. This medieval bridge offers a glimpse into the city's rich history and provides stunning views of Erfurt from its cobblestone street.
This is probably the first thing you should visit as a tourist in Erfurt - it's beautiful, there's lots of cute little shops, you can get some ice cream and sit and enjoy the view of this beautiful bridge and all the people who are walking past. There were lots of tourist groups, but it was still relatively quiet. I'd really recommend coming here!
Ripple E — Google review
Amazing how they managed to build this beautiful bridge with the shops and apartments so many years ago before there was any modern machinery! The fact that it is still standing after all these decades is a marvel! I loved the whole experience!
Elmarie M — Google review
Very lovely views and lots of unique history here. Definitely worth a visit.
Christina M — Google review
Really cool that one can be walking down the street without even realizing being on the Merchant's bridge. Definitely take a moment to walk outside and see the bridge then walk back through - really cool. There are a lot of little plazas around to stop and relax with a lot of little ice cream shops within a small area.
Lisa K — Google review
The Krämerbrücke in Erfurt is the longest bridge in Europe that is completely covered with inhabited buildings. It spans the Gera River and connects Benediktsplatz with Wenigemarkt in the heart of the old town. Small shops, galleries, and artisan workshops line the bridge, giving it a charming medieval atmosphere. It is one of Erfurt’s most famous landmarks and a popular spot for both locals and visitors.
Marc B — Google review
Its okay. It is a bridge with houses build above it. Maybe it was special to many people but for me its simple

Erfurt Cathedral

Mentioned on

Catholic cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
Erfurt Cathedral, also known as St. Mary's Cathedral, is a stunning Roman Catholic church that beautifully showcases both Romanesque and Gothic architectural styles. Perched on the picturesque Domberg hill alongside the Church of St. Severus, this magnificent structure boasts intricate stained glass windows and remarkable works of art dating back to the 15th century. With its origins tracing back to 742 AD, Erfurt Cathedral stands as one of Germany's finest examples of Gothic architecture.
Erfurt Cathedral is impressive. Its architecture is very detailed which attracts a lot of attention. its interiors are very spacious and inside it is very quiet and dark. For me, the most impressive thing was the organ, it was gigantic. I highly recommend your visit, as it is fascinating to get to know this ancient cathedral.
Janik T — Google review
Beautiful cathedral and heard an organ and choir sing for Bachfest
Adrian D — Google review
What more interesting is no entrance fee. Peaceful and the architecture is truly beautiful
Meera D — Google review
Absolutely amazing architecture really beautiful cathedral. Only disappointing thing is wasn’t able to view the inside but that is because I arrived in the evening although the view of the cathedral at night is also spectacular and even from the outside truly worth a visit very nice.
Karissa G — Google review
This cathedral is massive and must have really intimidated people back in the day. I've never seen anything like it, though someone told me there's another large one in another German city. This cathedral dominates this small city. Pictures don't capture the humongous size; you have to see it in-person to get the full effect. It communicates power. The inside is beautiful, and in one area people pray and reflect, making it a peaceful place to visit.
Margaret L — Google review
This church has so many architectural details from the outside and from inside as well. The construction is huge and is a landmark for the city of Erfurt. It could be worth visiting once, however I noticed that they were closing the gates going to the inside yard of the church in the evening.
Adnan Q — Google review
Amazing cathedral, very much worth the trek up the stairs. When I visited I was also lucky enough to experience a choir sing in there as well. Was magical!
Jibran K — Google review
Erfurt Cathedral of St. Mary is an impressive Gothic church that towers above the Domplatz. Its history dates back to the 8th century, with the current structure mainly built in the 14th and 15th centuries. The cathedral is especially famous for the Gloriosa, the largest free-swinging medieval bell in the world. Inside, visitors are captivated by vibrant stained glass windows, ornate altars, and the magnificent Romanesque crypt.

The Besucherzentrum Zitadelle Petersberg, located in Erfurt, Germany, is a well-preserved Baroque fortress that offers visitors the chance to explore its underground passages and tunnels. The complex, built in the 17th century, covers 12 hectares and boasts eight bastions connected by a two-kilometer parapet wall with stunning city views.
Very specific and important place in the history Erfurt. The museum of citadel is full of interactive activities to learn about the background of Erfurt. Nice and supportive English speaking staff.
Saodat K — Google review
Very nice building, particularly in reconstruction. You can see whole city from the side of Dóm, in the other side you can walk, lie down and sunbathe ona deck chair. RealyGl good place to relax, there is also restaurant with the prospect.
RomanProks — Google review
This large complex was used as a military installation all the way up until the wall fell in Germany. Now it is but a relic and it has a couple of museums as well. The area is great for a quiet walk around the grassy hill to get a good look at the town.
Brett G — Google review
Very beautiful place. Huge thick walls! Now I want to see this place in the summer 💓🇺🇦
News Z — Google review
The Zitadelle Petersberg is a citadel situated right next to the Domplatz in Erfurt. It is an old fortress preserved very well. The fortress belongs to the time when Erfurt was ruled by the electors of Mainz. The fortress is beautiful, and once you climb it, the view of the city centre - the Domplatz, St Mary's chruch, St Severus Church, the old town and the suburbs surrounding Erfurt is really beautiful. Along with the baroque fortress, there is an antique Postbox that can be seen there. The postbox with intricate designs dates back to 1896.

Schloss Friedenstein Gotha

Castle
Sights & Landmarks
Museums & a theater feature in this stately 17th-century baroque castle set in a sprawling park.
A must see if you are a history buff and want to learn more about the Saxe-Coburg Gotha family
Scottdennis — Google review
Schloss Friedenstein is a very large castle but one only gets to see a small portion of it. The castle has seen better days and needs some serious renovation. However, what you do get to see is worth going for. Several rooms have beautiful decor and furnishing. The entrance fee is also very reasonable. There is a restaurant on the castle ground but it was unfortunately closed when we were there.
Gerlinde S — Google review
This place is like a time machine. The moment you enter you feel like you're back to the baroque era. The mesum presents an amazing and unique history of the city.
Hanan — Google review
Has some interesting exhibitions and is overall an enjoyable experience. We liked the availability of full audio guide support and the huge funny slippers you had to wear on the main floor.
Ilya M — Google review
Lovely place to visit and there's a lot more to see than I thought (wasn't my main point of visit actually) so I spent longer time than I allocated. Worth a visit. Buy tickets at the Museum Shop before going upstairs to the museum.
Christina H — Google review
An old palace where you can see a lot of Gothas History. A museum is there too.
Liburnid Z — Google review
This place is work of art 🫠 Must visit place 💯 Employees are very kind and nice🥰 Highly recommend 🌟
Nika T — Google review
Beautifully restored castle with three different museums integrated into it. The entrance fee covers the castle, museums and visiting the theater that is also part of the castle, as well as the 'Herzogliches Museum' across the street. The staff is friendly and helpful and will cheerfully share stories and history of the castle itself and it's various inhabitants. The place is a treasure trove of exhibits and history affine kids will love it. Plan to spend at least three hours to cover all that can be seen. During our stay there was a little snack bar in the castle yard that served delicious cakes.

It is a standout exhibition in an unexpected rural area. I am a passionate saltwater hobbyist, and the effort folks put into these display tanks is fantastic.

The sharks are beautiful! Small center, very high quality exhibit on the first floor, Crocodiles and Alligators on the second floor! But the Sharks, it's worth spending two hours there!

Don't miss the chance to immerse yourself in the magic of Marienglas Cave – it's an experience that will stay with you long after you've left its mystical chambers.

It's OK but nothing that will wow you. Depending on what you have seen before, you will enjoy it more or less. The Cristals are nice to see but in general it feels like being in a big warehouse...

Set high above the treetops, this scenic pathway offers a lookout platform with forest information.
The place was a surprise for us! Interesting museum, routes in the forest, hanging galleries! In general emotions and need to come again! School age children will be more interested in the museum itself and reading the information on the stands! Thank you for the place! Let's come back
Ivan G — Google review
Loved this place. It's very magical in fall when the leaves change color but don't let that deter you from going in the summer. Been there three times already and I'm so going again. also don't forget to check out the museum where you buy the tickets. P.S. the restaurant outside, near the entrance has a cool robot server.
Ummara A — Google review
It's a nice location for coming down a bit in busy times....even if it's not to full there. If it is full, than it's a bit crowded because of the limited space at the canopy walkway. But from there you have a great view into the bright green of the treetops or - depending of the level, where you're walking - across the nice surrounding. Even for children it's very interesting there, especially because of the exhibitions at the entrance where everybody will find something new to learn. But keep care to reach there near to the last time for entrance! They are very strict and even cheat a bit. So at the entrance pay desk they send you just before closing time through the forest to the entrance gate for the canopy walkway and if you reach there, they tell you it's to late....and no discussion helps, even if you came from far away.
Mario B — Google review
Lovely place to go and explore nature in the Hainich. It's very well maintained, the restaurant is great and the playground awesome for kids. Also really close to the Wildkatzen Dorf.
Robert G — Google review
Very cool day trip. We went on a cool spring day and took the bus from Bad Lagensalza, it was very easy and right next to the train station. The forest and walkways were unique and the view on top of the "lighthouse" was great. We appreciated the English translations. Don't let your kids get too close of a look at the very detailed diorama in the lighthouse- we took a closer look and had some fun noticing the more raunchy figures and situations.
Katy R — Google review
Very nice and interesting place to visit; set in the beautiful forest Hainich. Informative and well maintained visitor center (entrance fee) and the path through the tree tops is great!
Paul O — Google review
A nice experience and an interesting nature center for children, but at €11 it felt pricey compared to other tree walkways I’ve been to in Germany (Cloef and Beelitz, in particular).

Great structure, very informative. Would recommend especially for children. The ticket costs 11 euros for adults, with option for family tickets for 30 euros. There is also a Museum in the park centre. Two or three options of trails to do by walking. Some can be long, but the views are beautiful in a small part of the way.

Nice for beginner, slopes are nice but short so advanced riders will get bored quickly, but perfect for beginner

Really awesome. The Rodelbahns, when open, are amazing fun fun. Both the double slides and the railing one. Also the flight place opposite allows for last minute plane rides. Alot of fun. Strongly recommend atleast one visit in summer every year.

Great place to spend the day. more fun for kids around 12 but adults can have fun too. Was there in the summer so am not sure about the skiing but the tree climbing was pretty damn cool as well as the other activities. The food is also good too.

Restaurant
Schloss Orangerie Der Grischäfer is a charming restaurant with outdoor terrace service. The sunny location offers a beautiful view of the garden and greenery. The friendly staff provides attentive service, and the wine selection is delightful. The restaurant offers a spacious seating area, although it may not be easily accessible for all due to stairs leading to the entrance and restrooms located in the basement.
I loved this place The food is very delicious and the portion is good You should definitely try the avocado bruschetta, the Caesar salad and the waffle The beer is very good as well and they have multiple coffee options It is affordable with a very nice view

Food was okay at the event. Acustics of the place is rather bad, as when too many people are inside it is similar to being in a small bar with lots of people being loud. Service was nice, everyone was helpful.

State park
Nature & Parks
Park
Karlsaue Park, located on the banks of the River Fulda, is a stunning 400-acre Baroque park featuring water features, canals, fountains, and artificial lakes. The park is home to the 18th-century Orangery Palace and an island bursting with seasonal blooms. Visitors can explore the symmetrical Aueteich pond and the colorful flower island of Siebenbergen while taking in the beauty of this historical landscape garden.
Karlsaue Park, also known as Staatspark Karlsaue, is a vast historic and botanical park situated in the heart of Kassel, Germany. Covering approximately 150 hectares (370 acres), the park is a magnificent blend of Baroque landscaping, natural beauty, and cultural heritage, offering visitors a tranquil urban oasis filled with scenic water features, art, and lush greenery. Landscape and Design Originally designed in Baroque style in the late 17th and early 18th centuries as a pleasure garden for the Landgraves of Hesse, Karlsaue Park spreads across an extensive area with formal geometrical layouts, ornate fountains, wide canals, and tree-lined avenues. Its crown jewel is the Orangerie, an impressive late-Baroque palace famed for elegant architecture, arched windows, and beautiful illuminated terraces. The Orangerie now houses museum spaces dedicated to astronomy and physics as well as art exhibitions, enriching the park’s appeal for visitors interested in culture alongside nature. Within the park’s boundaries lies the Marmorbad (Marble Bathhouse), an early 18th-century building originally intended as a royal event space rather than a bath, decorated with delicate stucco work and paintings. Numerous sculptures, pavilions, and the scenic Schwanentempel (Swan Temple) enhance the park’s fairy-tale atmosphere and invite moments of quiet reflection. Visitor Experience and Activities Visitors praise Karlsaue Park for its calm, well-maintained paths that are perfect for walking, jogging, or cycling. The park’s large open spaces, flower gardens, and wooded areas provide diverse environments for family picnics, photography, and relaxation. Several water channels and lakes including the Island of Flowers offer picturesque spots where the natural beauty is accentuated by graceful bridges and colorful blooms, especially during spring and summer. The park integrates modern public art and sculptures along the walking trails, providing an engaging cultural layer that complements the historical backdrop. Visitors often take advantage of audio walking tours available through apps, which explain the park’s botanical diversity and artistic heritage. Karlsaue Park is also a frequent venue for events, including concerts, festivals, and the contemporary art exhibition Documenta, which has periodically used the park as an expansive cultural canvas. This blend of outdoor activity and artistic experience creates a dynamic atmosphere that appeals to nature and art lovers. Accessibility and Amenities Open year-round and free to access, Karlsaue Park is conveniently located close to the Kassel city center with good public transport connections and parking facilities. The park is largely wheelchair accessible with smooth, flat paths, restrooms, and seating areas scattered throughout. Onsite cafés and restaurants near the Orangerie and lakeshore provide cozy places to enjoy refreshments while admiring views of the gardens. Visitor centers provide maps and informative displays, enhancing the experience for tourists unfamiliar with the park’s rich history.

A large, maintained green space in the heart of Kassel was a welcome respite from the crowds in the public squares. Enjoy the peaceful trails, water ways, and swimming birds throughout. There are lots of places for picnic lunches and benches for seating.

What a beautiful park, great for a stroll or just sitting on the grass. There is a restaurant in the orangerie building and a playground close to the water.

Only a few banks to sit on, so most of the people sit on the ground, still it's really big and looks great with all the flowers plus the - let's call them a little abnormal - trees in the middle of the park.

Museum
Specialty Museums
The GRIMMWELT Kassel is a spacious museum housed in a stone building that features exhibits highlighting the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm. It provides an abundance of information about their life and works, making it an ideal destination for those seeking knowledge on this subject. The presentations are uniquely designed with creativity and cater to children's needs, ensuring family-friendly fun. Outside the museum offers captivating views adding to its charm.
A great place to spend the afternoon with the family. The museum is divided into two main sections: 'Imaginarium' and the 'GRIMMWELT'; the first is a complete interactive tour of wooden games and interesting classical figures. It is highly recommended for a family visit, children will surely love it! On the other hand, the 'GRIMMWELT' amazes with the extensive collection of pieces they have on the life and work of the Grimm brothers. Curious facts, signed letters and photographs take up the first part of the tour, then it ends with an interactive section where it is even possible to ask the classic question: "Mirror, mirror, who is the fairest?". At the end, do not forget to visit the terrace and walk around the museum, because from there it is possible to see the famous Hercules of Kassel, and enjoy a beautiful view or sunset.

Great museum about Grimm brothers. If you’re a fan of fairy tales this is the place to be visited.
Alexandre S — Google review
An enjoyable experience. For the few negative reviews I’ve seen, I would recommend that you do some browsing about the brothers Grimm so you have some idea of what they did besides collect fairy tales before arriving. We enjoyed working our way through the exhibits. I saw a review noting that conversations with a security guard was a highlight. I think we meet him, and that was fun talking to him.
Arthur ( — Google review
We took a train from Frankfurt to see the museum. Grimmwelt does an excellent job of highlighting the scholarly aspects of the Grimm brothers work. My spouse mentioned she had no idea about the amount of work the Grimm brothers were engaged in. Grimmwelt goes far beyond retelling fairy tales.
Matthew J — Google review
Very interesting and knowledgeable exhibitions ( including the special exhibition event). I thought it was going to be about the fairytales of the Brother Grimm. But it was a lot more than that! It was about the development of the German dictionary and much more!
J. — Google review
The permanent displays focused a LOT on the German language and the Grimm Brothers contribution to it. Despite a rather bland topic, the displays were neat, and I appreciate the German language a little more from it! There was also an area for the fairy tales, and a "forest," more geared towards kids. There was a special exhibition when I was there called "Imaginarium" - the extraordinary world of Czech traveling and puppet theatre. This was actually pretty AMAZING! I've never seen things like this in a museum, they were interactive, and it really made me feel like a big, happy kid, turning all the wheels, handles, and levers and seeing what each display did! This could be a very popular museum by itself and I hope it finds a permanent home! In any case, visit Grimmwelt while Imaginarium is there, if you can! Finally, the cafe was EXCELLENT! Lots of kuchen (cakes) to choose from and, quite possibly, the best cappuccino I've ever had! I tried to tell the barista, but I don't think she understood my English. Hopefully, she'll read this!

Spessart Therme

Spas & Wellness
Health spa with pools, baths, saunas & a Dead Sea salt grotto offering treatments & fitness classes.
We love it! Very salty water, but your skin will thank you after your visit! Our favourite is, of course, the small pool with hot thermal water!
Familie G — Google review
On a short quick pre Christmas visit to Germany from the U.S., the first for my 16 year old during winter, I decided to introduce her to German spa culture. Rhein Main or Taunus Therme would have been a lot closer to us, the Toskana Therme in Bad Orb popped up and came recommended by acquaintances, but all three had quite a few negative reviews. I discovered Spessart Therme when one of the reviewers mentioned it as the better alternative that is only 6 km further than Bad Orb. I was sold when I read that they have a 10% salt pool, you can float in and that Wednesday is ladies day at the sauna (no clothing allowed). I was pleasantly surprised that we could still get a child ticket for my 16 year old or a 1/2 family ticket for the two of us (17 EUR plus 14 EUR for sauna for all day). That's a better price than any of the other spas. Nice touch: The parking lot on the left is free (5 hour time limit with “Parkscheibe”). Upon arrival we found that the next salt cave session would start soon and still had availability so we decided to check it out. The reception lady was friendly & patiently explained how everything worked but charged us (wrongly) for two adults (2x 11,50 EUR). I saw later in the brochure that youth (11-16 years) is 9,50 EUR, oh well … The 45 minute salt cave session was pleasant, blankets are provided but it felt warm (20-22C) enough. It's a good time to recharge (and nap) with relaxing music. They say 45 minutes in there is equally beneficial as one day at the ocean front. We went on into the pool area next and floated around one of the main pools that is 31C. It's pleasant and has plenty of bubblers and little water jet massagers. It feels warm going in but we needed to move around a little after a while to stay comfortable. We only tested the water of the other pool with the Poseidon temple by hand - it felt noticeably cooler (my guess was about 28C, like regular swimming pool temperature) so we didn't even bother going in there. The website says that it's 33C (?!). Then we found the smaller 10% salt pool. It's very warm (36C) The water is of brownish color and there should be a warning that it might stain white bathing suits. It made the white in my black & white top look rather cream colored. Avoid wearing white! There is a sign asking for silence and not to remain in it for more than 15 minutes. When we first discovered it, people who had just completed a water aerobics session in the therapeutic pool had gone in as a group and they were chatting away. We went back again later and were all by ourselves then - a little piece of heaven to be able to float on our backs watching the changing light colors. Only music could have further enhanced this experience. This pool alone made the 1 hour trip totally worth it. Next we checked out the saunas. There is a steam bath and a 50C & 55C sauna inside and three wooden huts with 85, 90 & 100C saunas outside. We happened to arrive just in time for the infusion in the 90C sauna. We are sauna novices but wanted to give this a try. It was popular and the sauna filled up fast. The sauna master passed out menthol drops before adding ginger lemongrass fragrance & then pouring on water. It got very hot but was still bearable and we made it to the end. There are cold showers and a small dipping tub to cool off. We also tried the 85C sauna but skipped the others. They were passing out salt to use for a full body scrub & peeling in front of the steam bath which was a nice touch. The restroom & shower areas were clean, and had good water pressure. Maybe a few more hooks would be useful. There are chairs and free hair dryers in front of a long wall of mirrors just outside of the changing rooms and lockers. Overall a very pleasant visit, we will be back in the summer!

We took our management team to visit this place to try for stress free idea. The Cyrotherapy and their little Salt Cave were our good choices. This place is clean with friendly staff. However, it'd be great if cyrotherapy and salt cave can be managed to use in a row. We had to wait for almost 2 hours to use the cave although we called to arrange time with the staff before travelling. It already took 6 hours for us to visit and return to our city. Hopefully, someone can really arrange our appointment when we call next time.

Not to big but for a few hours it was great. I loved the salt bad and sauna. Unfortunality the 25 mtr Pool was closed, after a long holliday drive i would have love to swim there. But we could relax and swim a little bit in the smaller therme pool. We came by camper and a street away we could find the camper parking place for the night.

Great system for lockers / entry / changing area fair price kids price until 16 yrs (incl). Typical spa pools, wave pool outside and a sports pool plus a salt grotto which I sadly missed. Friendly lifeguard. Only con was one of the ladies at the cantine who was impatient, rude and wrong about our order, possibly racist or xenophobic as we were obviously foreign or maybe just stressed. Her colleague was friendly though.

Ronneburg Castle

Sights & Landmarks
Renaissance-era castle drawing visitors year round for themed shows, holiday markets & dining.
Been visiting Ronneburg Castle for years, it's a great experience for anyone visiting Germany and they often have events going on throughout the year. they have a cool little souvenir shop also with decent prices. the view of the surrounding area from the tower is amazing, the climb up the tower can be abit scary if your not the biggest fan of heights haha, but it isn't that bad and definitely worth the climb for the views. 5/5 stars for me it's a great castle
ButtonZ Y — Google review
Very well maintained castle. It is great to visit with kids, specially when there are medieval markets or other events. I suggest in case of castle events, to get there early as it can be difficult to find a parking spot later kn the day. The views from the high tower are awesome!!
Sergio G — Google review
It's a good place to visit with a great view from the tower and even from the ground. They have events right now and it feels like it takes you back in the medieval time. There's some shops and stores. The cafe in the Castle also offers various delicious cakes. It's family friendly, alot of activities for kids.

Been here many times. Was just something to do on a rainy day today. Historically interesting, nice views. Beer garden and restaurant.

We came here for the Christmas market and it just may be my favorite Christmas market. It's set in a medieval castle and the market expands from outside to all inside the castle. Very cool! Has a very authentic medieval market feel and lots of homemade gifts, lots of things you wouldn't find at traditional markets. Lots of people dress up in medieval attire which was also cool. Lots of really good food options as well. The market is only open certain weekends, so plan in advance!
Amanda C — Google review
The castle is highly recommended for a visit, offering a well-preserved historical site with numerous exhibits and educational opportunities. Weekend activities, including stone carving demonstrations and bird shows, are regularly scheduled. The castle also hosts various festivals and markets, enhancing the visitor experience. We advise consulting the castle's website for upcoming events and encourage a visit.
Pavlina T — Google review
We visited the medieval market at this place. The best experience was to see all the attendees wearing the medieval costumes , which gives a feel how this place would have been running during the medieval period. Big ground available for car parking. The market was also big and good place for the kids to enjoy and have fun.
Moinnak C — Google review
We really enjoyed Ronneburg Castle, especially during Walpurgisnacht, where witches, fairies, jesters, and many characters from fairy tales and the Middle Ages come to life. There was a market with a variety of goods, all stylized to fit the medieval theme. At the market, you could also taste cherry beer and sausages - there was something for everyone! You could also enter the castle and walk up the stairs, where you could eat onion soup or simply enjoy tea or coffee with cake. There were also many activities for children, such as a carousel, archery, and face painting. The tower was particularly memorable, as it offered a breathtaking view that was worth waiting in line for about 20 minutes.

Established in 1858, Zoo Frankfurt is home to a diverse array of animal species thriving in naturalistic environments. The zoo is one of the top attractions in Frankfurt, alongside other popular sights like Romerberg, Stadel Museum, and Palmengarten. Visitors can immerse themselves in local culture and explore the city's vibrant restaurant scene.
The zoo is very picturesque! Nicely decorated and great it is good for a weekend family activity. Lots of different animals from all corners of earth, but don't expect to see them all since their enclosures are very big and they often hide. The food is also great and I definitely recommend it!
Nika Š — Google review
Pretty great zoo, pretty quiet when I visited. Great variety of animals and species I had never seen before. Loved all of the birds! Pity the shops in the zoo were cash only though! But I enjoyed my time at the zoo with my photos. I would recommend but wouldnt need all day to visit!
Jeremy A — Google review
This zoo offers incredible value with prices significantly better than what I experienced at Dublin Zoo (my only prior comparison). The atmosphere was wonderfully nice and friendly. Unfortunately, my visit was constrained by a flight, which forced me to rush and prevented me from seeing the entire park. Prospective visitors should note that certain popular enclosures, like the giraffes, close 30 minutes prior to the main zoo closing time, which I missed. Overall, it was a very positive experience and a great place to visit on a Sunday in Germany.
Una — Google review
The reptile and nocturnal houses were really cool! Coming from the United States there were a lot of animals I don't see very often in American zoos. It's small-ish in size but they really pack in a lot of animals without feeling like they're in small enclosures. We got here late in the day and spent about 2.5 hours here but we could've spent another hour or two.
Jordan B — Google review
What a fantastic day at the Frankfurt Zoo! A definite highlight for me was the penguin 🐧🐧🐧🐧 enclosure. They are so charming and fun to watch as they waddle around and swim gracefully in the water. The whole zoo is beautifully laid out with so many amazing animals to see. Highly recommend it for a perfect day out! ❤️❤️❤️
Ірина Ф — Google review
It's a small zoo, do not plan to visit for longer than two hours. It's nice but definitely not a destination. Small kids would enjoy a visit, it's not too full with people and you can easily get around on foot. Make sure to bring cash though if you're planning on having a snack (they do not accept anything else. Also Beware, the coffee at the park is a crime against humanity! The dark habitat and the reptile and rodent pavilion deserve a special mention, the animals all seem well taken care of and the enclosures look adequate for the inhabitants. Absolutely worth a visit.
Inna Y — Google review
We had been so looking forward to visiting the zoo in Frankfurt. But it was a complete disappointment. You had to look for a long time for a place to buy either coffee or something to eat. Where were the giraffes? Elephants, lions and tigers. We had been most looking forward to seeing them. There were none of these animals, so definitely not worth the money. So we left very disappointed.
Liskoertz A — Google review
On the good side, there are many kinds of animals, lush and pretty easy to walk around as it’s not too large. The downside was that it’s a bit worn down and old, we didn’t see any lions, tigers and other animals. One penguin looked like it was screaming and dying. Other guests were not too respectful to the animals, banging on the glass wall and pouring water on them. It’s fine for the price though, but 1,5 hours was enough.

Frankfurt Cathedral

Sights & Landmarks
Frankfurt Cathedral, also known as Kaiserdom, is a stunning Gothic-style Catholic cathedral that boasts Renaissance frescoes and offers panoramic city views from its tower. It was once the tallest building in the city until skyscrapers like the Main Tower and Commerzbank Tower surpassed it. Dedicated to St. Bartholomew, this Roman Catholic church played a significant role in the Holy Roman Empire's elections and coronations.
Beautiful cathedral. Really enjoyed the experience. I went to the top of the tower, the staircase is really narrow steep and long so be prepared for a bit of a hike but once you are at the top it's a full 360° view of the city. The price was quite reasonable I believe it was €5 per person but I could be mistaken. 10/10 if in Frankfurt this is a great place to go. There's also lots of historical buildings in the vicinity including places to eat or grab coffee. Great place to spend an afternoon.

recently visited Frankfurt’s main square and it was an unforgettable experience. The beautiful historic buildings create such a charming atmosphere, taking you back in time with their unique architecture. What truly amazed me was the sound of the church bells – so powerful and mesmerizing that it filled the whole square with a magical feeling. I even recorded a video to capture the moment, but being there in person was beyond compare. A must-visit spot in Frankfurt, full of history, beauty, and soul.

Beautiful and awe-inspiring cathedral in Frankfurt. Majestic structure which has peculiar aesthetic finish, especially inside it. What strikes a visitor first is the marvellous collection of statues and paintings. It is not very spectacular when viewed from a distance but when you are inside you are wonder-struck at the great assemblage of rare statues and paintings. The tall columns and arches all add to the grandeur of the cathedral. The picture of St Bartholomew being flayed alive gives a shudder to you.

Frankfurt Cathedral (German: Frankfurter Dom), officially Imperial Dome of Saint Bartholomew (German: Kaiserdom Sankt Bartholomäus), is a Roman Catholic Gothic church located in the heart of Frankfurt am Main, Germany. It is dedicated to Saint Bartholomew. Quite unique as an cathedral, as the entire architecture was painted in ♥️ red; and the famous story is that all the surroundings were mostly destroyed during WWII, but not Frankfurt Cathedral.
Bill L — Google review
It's a place to be! First church here was built in 7th century! And particularly this cafedral was fully built in 1550 and saw many kings of the Wholy Roman Empire crowned! If you compare the pictures from 17 century and nowadays, you feel the importance and richness of history of this place! By the way, being here is not about Christian or whatever, this is about enriching yourself culturally! I stress it from my non- Christian background!

This wrought iron bridge was originally designed by Peter Schmick and constructed in 1868, connecting the Romerberg at Sachsenhausen neighborhood. Despite undergoing reconstructions over the years, it has maintained its original design.
This bridge is really cool, it is covered in love locks. It is pretty insane how some of these locks are all connected in ways I didn’t even think was possible. The bridge also offers beautiful views of the skyline and is pedestrian only. I recommend!

Beautiful bridge with amazing views of the river and skyline! The Iron Footbridge is perfect for a walk, especially at sunset. You can see both sides of Frankfurt and all the love locks add a nice touch. A must-visit spot for great photos and a peaceful stroll! Also covered with locks! Great place for couples to stroll by

A perfect stop for travelers exploring Frankfurt! The Iron Footbridge (Eiserner Steg) is more than just a crossing — it’s a scenic spot where history, romance, and skyline views come together beautifully. I visited around sunset, and the reflection of the skyscrapers on the Main River was breathtaking. It’s a short walk from Römerberg, so it fits easily into any walking route around the old town. You’ll find plenty of people here — locals jogging, tourists taking photos, and couples leaving love locks on the railings. It’s one of those rare places that feels peaceful even when it’s busy. Tip: Visit early in the morning or near sunset for the best photos and fewer crowds. Bring a coffee, enjoy the fresh breeze, and take in the view — it’s a fantastic spot to feel the vibe of Frankfurt!
Ravindra G — Google review
Great place to take a walk. You can start with the bridge and then go through promenade. You can get there with an elevator, so it is accessible for people with disabilities. Really fine and pleasant view. You can also go sightseeing with a boat. Pretty cool place.
Ola K — Google review
Magnificent place with excellent views. I came to know about this bridge by my favourite movie Bommarillu (Telugu/India). Got rain while I was on the bridge, but didn't affect much. There are some surrounding places good for memory.
Kini P — Google review
The iron bridge is a great sight. From the entrance to the other end, it is only a matter of a few minutes, but you will have covered an old iron bridge traversed billions of times. The bridge is a large one with wide steps leading to the entrance. Though it is a footbridge, it is wide enough for several people to walk side by side. It is also very good for photographs. It has become a landmark in Frankfurt. When we visited it, there were several other visitors proving that it is a popular tourist destination. Lovers used to leave locked padlocks on the bridge. Now there are tens of thousands of such locks on the bridge.

Stunning Views, Historic Charm – A Must-Visit Landmark in Frankfurt! The Iron Footbridge (Eiserner Steg) is not just a pedestrian bridge — it's a panoramic balcony to one of Germany’s most vibrant and modern cities, steeped in history, culture, and breathtaking riverfront views. Whether you're a traveler, photographer, or simply out for a walk, this spot is absolutely unforgettable. As you step onto the bridge, the city opens up before you in a perfect postcard scene. On one side, you see the striking skyline of Frankfurt — a rare fusion of historic architecture and glass-covered skyscrapers that make this city so uniquely beautiful. On the other side, the peaceful charm of Sachsenhausen invites you with its traditional German taverns, cobblestone streets, and warm ambiance. The Main River flows gracefully beneath, offering mesmerizing reflections of the buildings and the bridge itself. At sunset, the sky turns golden-orange and paints the water in magical hues — it’s an experience that stops you in your tracks. Whether it’s day or night, sunny or misty, the atmosphere here is incredibly serene. The bridge is also known for its "love locks", where couples from around the world have left behind tokens of love and memories. It adds a layer of intimacy and charm that makes it feel like more than just a place — it’s a symbol of connection, both physically and emotionally. Tip: It’s one of the best photo spots in Frankfurt — you can capture the river, the skyline, and the famous Frankfurt Cathedral (Kaiserdom) all in one frame. If you’re lucky, you’ll catch live musicians or street performers adding to the mood. Easy to reach, open 24/7, and completely free — the Iron Footbridge is the perfect spot for a romantic stroll, a moment of reflection, or simply enjoying Frankfurt’s dynamic blend of old and new. Highly recommended — a peaceful escape right in the heart of a busy city. Don’t miss it!

Eiserner Steg is an old iron bridge spreading across the Main river connecting Frankfurt old town with residential area on the southern bank. It's a nice historic structure now only for pedestrian traffic. I strongly suggest crossing it as it offers terrific views of entire Frankfurt, both modern and old town. Likewise many such bridges there're many love locks along it

Frankfurter Römer is a medieval building that now serves as the town hall, featuring a stepped gable facade and adorned with numerous portraits. This historical site is just one of the many attractions in Frankfurt am Main, which also boasts landmarks like Romerberg (City Center), Archaeological Museum & Garden, Frankfurt Cathedral (Kaiserdom), and Stadel Museum.
Lovely and beautiful places in Frankfurt, Germany. The buildings are designed amazingly!

It’s amazing here, many walking tours also start at this point. This is like a prime touristy spot. Many souvenir are also around and restaurant with various different culture and countries are available. There is also a shopping mall nearby on walking distance. I suggest anyone visiting Frankfurt to visit here

Beautiful historical site. The Romer still stands in Frankfurt in all its majesty. This medieval building is perhaps the city's most important landmark. In the past it was regarded as the most beautiful square in Germany. Now it is a very popular square and a very good spot for photographs. Romer is the seat of the Frankfurt city administration. There was a sizable crowd there when we went to it. There was also some preparations going on for an upcoming national event.

The Römer is absolutely stunning - a must-see when visiting Frankfurt! The old town square around it is full of charm, with half-timbered houses, cafés, and plenty of photo spots. You really get a feel for the city’s history here. It’s especially nice in the evening when the lights come on, and during the Christmas market it looks magical. Easy to reach by foot or public transport, and there are lots of restaurants nearby. A perfect place to start exploring Frankfurt!

Fine dining restaurant
Perched on the 53rd floor of an iconic tower, Main Tower Restaurant & Lounge offers breathtaking 360-degree views of Frankfurt's skyline. Guests can opt for a scenic elevator ride or enjoy fine dining with international dishes and cocktails while taking in the stunning cityscape. The restaurant, recently awarded a Michelin star, presents a modern five to seven-course menu featuring high-quality ingredients with Asian influences crafted by Chef Martin Weghofer.
The Main Tower Restaurant offers a fantastic dining experience from start to finish. Every course was exceptional, with meticulously prepared dishes that showcased attention to detail. The service was superb—attentive and professional—and the quiet atmosphere added to the enjoyment.
Kelly C — Google review
The service is absolutely perfect, the view, the experience everything is worth it but unfortunately the food is not that special. I would expect more from a michelin star restaurant. It wasn’t bad dont get me wrong, it just wasnt 1000€ good. Dubai, tel aviv and other cities with michelin star restaurants were just better food wise.
Wolfo — Google review
I found it a bit too pricey and the portions are tiny, even that it is the tasting menu. The food was very good, very artistic and service was very good, not too fancy. However, I would appreciate some local touch and use of more local products instead of constantly mentioning how their tomatoes came from the best Spanish tomatoes (where exactly in Spain lol) or some French vegetables or even more far away places. Wine by glass is too expensive too and wine pairing, consisting of 6 glasses of 100ml glasses is way too big for me, I would not be able to drink a whole bottle of wine alone.
Spot2travel — Google review
My sister and I were in the lounge and had a few drinks (Mojitos, Negroni, Espresso Martini, Macallan Whiskey) as well as the cheese selection. Everything was very tasty and beautifully prepared. The view was amazing and the staff very attentive and friendly.
Svea — Google review
Excellent cuisine with a view. The Main Tower delivers a beautifu viewl of the city and some delicious molecular gastronomy, but lacks in ambience and service. The setting is a bit austere and does not have the opulence of some other fine dining establishments. The service is typical German: to the point. The dishes were explained well, but it was all transactional. If you don't order the wine course - good luck. Cocktails and other drinks were hard to come by - my sole cocktail was never offered for a refill, water refills were also rather slow. The pace of the dinner is very slow, one truly can relax and enjoy the meal over 4+ hours with the nice sunset view of the city. All the courses were expertly crafted and very good to exceptional. Only a few, such as the quail for main course was sub-par. It is a bit pricey and I must admit the experience, while very good, just didn't have the wow factor we were looking for.
Marius — Google review
I would give more than 5 stars if i could do. Everything is perfect. Very good service. Beautiful view. Amazing creative food. Very delicious. We reserved a table for 3 course dinner for our wedding anniversary last year and this year. The price is quiet expensive. But worth it. We want to go for fantastic dinner here to celebrate our wedding anniversary every year.

"I had an absolutely wonderful dining experience here! The atmosphere is cozy yet elegant, and the staff are incredibly friendly and attentive without being intrusive. The food was fresh, full of flavor, and beautifully presented. Every dish we tried was perfectly cooked, from the starters to the dessert.

Since I live in Frankfurt (which is about 3 years) I've always wished to experience this amazing Panorama Restaurant, highlight of the city. I had luck, as I called only 10min before my arrival to book a table, and had luck to receive one (normally one needs to book days earlier, and sometimes weeks). Needless to say I was amazed with the beautiful panorama and the simple, yet sophisticated interior of the restaurant. Food was absolutely delicious. Some of the ingredients were complete new to me (as I usually stick to me personally known recepies). Every course was presented in details by the competent and very polite and professional waiter. Special thanks to the waiter Mr. Wilhelm (I hope I rememmber correctly) who made our experienced so pleasant. With regards to the price, I would not say it is expensive. The price suits the overall sensation (the spectacular view and meals) + location. Best Regards, Nevena

Sights & Landmarks
Frankfurt (Main) Hbf, the city's grand central station, is a stunning example of Neo-Renaissance architecture and serves as a vital hub for both regional and long-distance travel. Nestled in the heart of Germany, Frankfurt boasts a dynamic blend of modernity and history, making it an exciting destination for travelers. The city’s skyline is impressive, while its rich cultural scene offers diverse culinary delights to explore.
Beautiful but busy train station with vaulted ceilings and awe inspiring architecture. Some cool and fun things to note like the Frankfurt train station sign at the far end and the small toy coin operated train set. Decent food selections. Ticket booths are plentiful, but be aware that there are different ticket machines for different lines. S trains (e.g. to airport) are down below. Train times are fairly accurate. Access through the north, east, and south entrances.
Cory S — Google review
Very crowded all the time of the day. There are trains to all parts of Europe from this central station. The station is quite big and it is decently maintained. The trains I took from here were all on time. Even the S bahn can be taken from this station only

Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof is a huge, bustling station with stunning old architecture blended with modern design. It’s well-connected with trains to all of Germany and Europe, and offers plenty of shops, cafés, and food options. It can get crowded and the area outside feels a bit rough at night, but overall it’s an efficient and impressive travel hub.
Aditya A — Google review
Historic beautiful station, it is very busy with 30+ railway tracks. You can buy souvenirs even late night at the railway station
Justin S — Google review
Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof is a major transportation hub and offers excellent connectivity, quick links to regional trains, long‑distance services, suburban S‑/U‑Bahn lines, and a large selection of food outlets and shops. According to recent rankings it even borders on being one of Europe’s better large stations. On the flip side, the station and especially its surrounding district have mixed reviews: many passengers mention crowding, hygiene issues (including unpleasant odours in some areas), and a part of the neighbourhood that feels somewhat rough after dark. If you’re passing through during the day with luggage and clear destination, it’s very serviceable and worth using. At night or if you plan a long stay in the area, just be a bit cautious.
Mudassir A — Google review
Frankfurt Central Station is a large train station with attractive architecture and an impressive building. Fortunately, you can find various restaurants and services inside the station. Unfortunately, there are many beggars in the area who constantly ask for money and food. The station itself is relatively clean and organized, but unfortunately, the paths leading to the subway and lower levels often smell of urine. Also, using the restrooms requires payment, and another important point is that the platform (Gleis) for trains can change until the very last minute, so it's recommended to continuously check the platform information until your train arrives. Additionally, the DB information service is always helpful and answers your questions well, and I was satisfied with their service.
Nika — Google review
This is the main station that serves the Frankfurt city. S Bahn, U Bahn, trams and all long distance regional bahn and IC and ICE trains are staring and ending from here. Most of the officials speaks English and people are friendly. A safe location to travel solo. Always congested and full of people.

Hessenpark is an open-air museum located in Bad Homburg, showcasing over 100 regional timber-framed houses and offering insights into traditional Hessian life. The park spans a large area and features disassembled homes from various parts of the province, which are reassembled for preservation. Visitors can witness rural crafts demonstrations and historical exhibitions while exploring the centuries-old village. Additionally, there are craftsmen on-site showcasing processes like ink dying.
It's a must go if you like want to see some German architecture from 1500s to 1950s, love nature and animals, and rural crafts. It's big, so you may consider spending all least 4+ hours. There are explanation tablets for architecture and the Marketplatz is a has a good collection of it. You can enter many of the buildings, some of which are equipped with history of several inventions, like medicine or telecommunications. I couldn't see the crafts in work, only their halls. Would be nice to see someone actually performing. For crafts' workshop, you have to check their website and make an appointment prior to visiting. It might be costly, and intensive (5+ hours) There are sheep (you can pet them), pigs, goats, and other animals on the farm museum.

Beautifully decorated area with old houses. a large and beautifully decorated square with many old shops and a lot of content. You simply go back many years. Sufficient space for parking. It's really worth visiting and seeing.

I loved it! This place truely takes you to the past. Houses are beautiful, everything is well organized. You can enter in almost every house and learn about the history of this part of Germany. It took me 3 hours to tour the whole museum park. Close to the entrance you can buy coffee and pastries, even bread (only accepting cash). I tried Apfelkuchen and it was yummy. The lady was also very sweet and polite. I only didn't like the shop with souvenirs, and lady who worked there wasn't very nice. The bus stop is very close to the museum. Overall, amazing experience. Peaceful, educative, beautiful!

Perfect day for families. Often there are artisanal crafts people around where you can either watch or participate and make dies or plastic free beeswax paper for luncheons, or weave baskets. Thee are animals and traditional foods galore. And the mediaeval buildings fro all over hassia are an added bonus. We come here often with the family. Highly recommended.

Good exhibition of historical houses and buildings from Hessen area, the history of the towns and especially stories of the people living in the houses in the past, before the buildings being relocated and preserved in the park. There are also employees and volunteers presenting in random stations, either explaining the history of the displayed items, or acting, or demonstrating how the job being done in the past, such as black smith, etx. If you are a person enjoying reading the history and explanations in the exhibition, then please make sure you plan a whole day there!

Dortmund Zoo is a leafy and diverse zoo that houses around 2,000 animals from approximately 250 species on a 28-hectare property. The zoo focuses on South American wildlife and features large naturalistic habitats such as the Amazon House and the South America Meadow. Visitors can observe a wide range of animals in these settings, including the iconic Giant Anteaters, Sloths, and Armadillos.
The zoo is huge. It is situated in a forest ( or that's what it seems like 🤭), full of greenery and a beautiful walkway. You need to follow the map if you want to checkout and not miss on any animal/ bird. You can also just follow your heart and enjoy, just make sure you find the exit. As of my experience, I got to see a lot of animals that I had never seen in my life before. For being extra friendly and sweet - my best friends at zoo were a Giraffe 🦒 and a Donkey 🫏 ( Donkey simply because it's my favourite in general 🤭) Other animals that I never saw before, but did here are : Otters 🦦 , Seals 🦭, capybaras, red pandas, white owl 🦉, Alpacas, and red flamingos! Thankfully the day I visited here was pleasant and warm, which is most suitable and recommend if you are planning to visit this place. I had a great time here :) Also I got a student discount on the entry ticket, but you need to show them a valid Id proof for that.
Emerald S — Google review
I visited Dortmund Zoo on June 20, 2025, during the summer season, and it was a great experience overall. The zoo is conveniently located a short subway ride away from Dortmund’s main railway station, making it easy to reach. The entrance ticket cost €11, which I found quite reasonable for the size of the zoo and the variety it offers. The zoo is spread across a large area and features a wide range of animals from different regions around the world. It was fascinating to see so many species in well-maintained enclosures that reflect their natural habitats. There are several restaurants inside the zoo, offering a variety of food and drinks, so you won’t go hungry during your visit. I also noticed dedicated children’s play areas, which make it a great spot for families with kids. Overall, Dortmund Zoo is a relaxing and educational place to spend a few hours, especially if you enjoy being close to nature and wildlife. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone visiting the city.
Sujeewa J — Google review
This zoo is very nice! For €7,50 per adult and free parking in October the price is really low. The majority of people says this zoo is small but I disagree and think this zoo is actually pretty large. A lot of well made habitats, however I do have to agree that some look like they could use a little attention. But this zoo is based on naturalism, so I think it’s fine. A lot of opportunities to see animals from up close and take good photos. Also some (very )special species, like the black jaguar, clouded leopard and red panda. If you want to you can spend the whole day here, there’s enough to watch. Most of the animals are very active, unlike in many other zoo’s where the majority of the animals are sleeping. The only negatives were the constructions, which made it impossible to see some animals. Also, the animal information in mainly only German and mostly cash only payments at food stands. But overall, especially for the price this park is very good! There were also very little people, al though we did visit on a Monday.

Svetlana B — Google review

I nearly always enjoy the exhibitions at this gallery. They are so well displayed. Today it was 'Dress Code', about fashion and what clothes say about us. The photos are from the outside space.

The House of the History of the Federal Republic of Germany, or Haus der Geschichte, is a captivating museum located in Bonn that delves into the complex narrative of post-war Germany. Opened shortly after Berlin regained its status as the capital, this museum offers an extensive exploration from World War II's aftermath to Germany's reunification.
By the time I visited, only the exhibition about second world war was open to visitors, the rest was under construction they said. You can find sections divided generation by generation. Very informative readings, interactive medias and striking photos take you through the near history from that times’ perspective. I love the way the content presented in a very objective. Definitely a museum to visit to grasp a different perspective on that era. I only wish there were more source books also in English as well.

The exhibition atm is smaller than expected. The upper floors were under construction & the lowest floor was about Roman period. After Hilter exhibition is on the ground floor. Educates you about Germany after WWII and quite informative on historical events that remain relevant to today's unfortunate time. Their cafe is pricey but the museum's admission is free, staff are friendly, and their lounge is perfect for students or remote work - quiet and modern. I would love to come back for the other parts of the museum.

For understanding modern German history in Bonn, I think this is a great place; it presents the period from post-war years up to reunification in a clear, chronological way, plus it’s free to visit and very easy to reach. Unfortunately, when we went, the permanent exhibition was under renovation, so we couldn’t see the main display and only visited the temporary exhibitions. Still, the atmosphere and overall organization were nice; for those planning a visit, I’d recommend checking on the official website in advance to see whether the permanent exhibition is open.

I must see when in Bonn - definitely buy tickets in advance. When we were there, There was low traffic and the museum is currently being re-organised but it is definitely worth it. The café is nice. We had cake and coffee there which was a nice early afternoon / mid afternoon break And lots of history that you just were not really aware of. I must see when in Bonn

The exhibition about the second world war was open to visitors when I visited the museum. It was really interesting to learn more about antisemitism and what people experienced from generation to generation

I visited in accordance with the high rating and recommendation. A museum not on a general history of Germany, but only on the second world war and its effects. For this reason, although there were a few interesting parts, it did not satisfy me.

A really sobering exhibition, and essential visiting for anyone who considers themselves politically interested. Lots of things to think about, especially how the 'elders' of a nation holds on to ideas of the past and steer youth towards it.

I find the visit very impressive. It’s an educative place, though currently there’s only one temporary exhibition since the main exhibition is under renovation. I’m thankful that there’s English translation everywhere.

Vohwinkel

Transportation
Vohwinkel is a district in Wuppertal, known for its central station, Wuppertal Hauptbahnhof, and the iconic Schwebebahn suspension railway. The railway is a landmark of the city and offers convenient public transportation with frequent departures. It operates primarily on weekends and holidays, with replacement bus services on weekdays. The Schwebebahn provides a unique perspective of the city as it cruises above streets and residential areas.
One of its kind hanging train. The train is in service from early 1900's. An amazing engineering feat! The Bahn Route covers scenic places. It runs above river, roads. Try to occupy the last seat as it provides the best visual treat!

Amazing experience and a highlight when you are in Wuppertal. Just take a ride from one end to the other. Consider checking the schedules because the Schwebebahn is often in maintenance mode.

Only runs on weekends right now. But if you keep that in mind, it's a very affordable and unique tourist attraction. Great way to see a beautiful city. Buy the all-day ticket and hop on and off. Don't forget to learn about the famous elephant who rode the train

It was a really nice experience for us and the children that the rail way was above the river and streets

Elevatated train from 1901 is a must see. It costs €14.50 for a 3-person 24-hour ticket that includes buses.

It's a very good experience for a one time ride. The trains were nice and clean. Lines are beautifully constructed over the central canal through the city. The views of the surrounding hills are also nice. Tips: The tail end seats offer the best views. It's a bit noisy ride.

I was told about this suspension railway and recommended to try it. I joined at Kluse (one stop down from the main train station, next to the cinema) and grabbed a ticket - although cheap (only 1.70) I found the machine doesn't take credit card, so come prepared with coins. The railway isn't big - only two carriages - but they are pretty frequent so if you miss one (or it's full), you don't have long to wait for the next. The carriages have been modernised: they're brightly-lit with clean seats that don't look worn in any way. Sitting at the back gives a good view down the river and along the roads during the trip, but as I tried it last evening in winter most of my trip was quite dark. I travelled south-west all the way to Vohwinkel (the terminal stop) where it's possible to see the other carriages parked, so there's quite a few cars. I then grabbed the one on the other side and travelled back the other way. Quite leisurely, a pretty smooth ride and fairly quick, given the age of the technology. Well worth the trip!
