Merseburg is a smallish town, and the Cathedral is definitely the highlight. We attended an excellent lunchtime concert given by a fabulous organist. Hearing that organ being played in such a historic Cathedral was a really special experience. The helpers at the Cathedral were so friendly as well.

A grand cathedral loaded with historical artifacts and works of art. Wonderful sculpture and wood carving. Placed in a beautiful landscape, it is a gem of medieval architecture.

Beautiful cathedral! Unfortunately the entry fee is rather pricy for the simple opportunity of visiting a church (permission to take photos is charged extra). However, a visit is worth it as you'll be able to take a look at the impressive "Merseburg Charms". Staff are friendly and lots of interesting information is given on the cathedral, it's history and the exponates displayed.

Rotkäppchen Erlebniswelt

Food & Drink
Sparkling wine-maker with 5 levels of cellars in the rock & one of the largest wooden wine barrels.
Apologies for an incomplete review - we visited on new year's eve, they shut early and we were not in time to visit the exhibition. We did enjoy the shop and cafe however. It is a lovely and friendly place, particularly if you have a spot of ostsglia. FYI they stop selling tickets to the exhibition 90 minutes before closing. We celebrated the new year with a bottle of the trocken riesling sekt with a picture of Uta from the nearby Naumburg dom on the label, which was delicious. My son enjoyed some of the alcohol free fruit flavoured drinks and we all enjoyed the chocolates.
Alex C — Google review
We booked on-line one of the experiences. It was a self guided one . The exhibition is nice and has both useful info  and some interactive exhibits. It could be more immersive . You make an effort if you are not German because of the exclusively German panels. Shop and wine tasting areas are very nice. One glass of sekt included in the tasting.
SVC — Google review
Amazing experience. We booked the guided visit with tasting and it was great. The only downside is that you don’t see the production and just hear about it. Our special recommendation: Go to the bar and try a glass of 1856 Weißburgunder!
Das F — Google review
Amazing historical place where the Rotkäppchen send is made in Freyburg Germany. I was there for the Winzerfest festival on their 25th anniversary. It was a huge party with a lot of wine tasting. At Rotkäppchen they told us about the history going back 100 years + and showed us the classic huge barrel from the old ages. Check the pics....I would certainly recommend it. There u can get their premium champagne which can only be bought there.

The tour was conducted by a student who could not answer many questions. The visit is worth by the history and tradition. In terms of quality, they only have one line that is made with an acceptable method, so don't expect anything surprising.

Naumburger Dom

Cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
Romanesque & Gothic place of worship with sculptures by the Naumburg Master & a treasury museum.
What a beautiful place to visit. We went there in July. It was absolutely stunning to see all the flowers blooming around and walking around.
Amrita K — Google review
Unusual cathedral with two choirs and some intriguing features from as late as the 1980s. I'd recommend getting an audio guide (included with the tickets) in order to appreciate the many details, though in English at least, it is a bit pompous (hence the 4 stars). There are some fantastic gargoyles visible from the garden.
Alex C — Google review
Beautiful place to see. Take some time there is quite a bit to explore. Try some singing at the crypt. The sound is amazing.
Ilona W — Google review
A masterpiece. A breathtaking example of Romanesque architecture with treasures of gothic sculptures in it. A must visit place. My favourite cathedral in all of Germany.
Ihor Z — Google review
Felt like i went to gallery. So many details.. its like hide and seek. I could stay whole day in here. Very inspiring. Please go also the little garden. Its so peaceful.
Sori K — Google review
Extremely rich architecture. We had the privilege of a one hour guided tour and learned a lot about the history of the dome, the unusual case of the founder figures, the narrow path to paradise, why you say "Buch aufschlagen" (to "beat open a book") in German for opening a book and many more details to understand what was going on for centuries behind these walls. An absolute must visit.
Andreas L — Google review
Probably one of Germanys gem!! The world's oldest Organ is definitely a sight and sound to be enjoyed. Architecture is just amazing!!
Andy N — Google review
A very interesting church with an interesting history. The art in the church is unique and striking. The cathedral itself is worth a day trip to see this beautifully preserved 1,000 year old World Heritage Site. Sadly, the cathedral is about the only thing worth seeing in Naumburg. We were there on a Saturday and the town rolls up the sidewalk at noon except for a few cafes near the cathedral.

(Translated by Google) Very interesting exhibition about the pioneer of the Bauhaus generation, artist, product designer and architect Henry van de Velde. After an eventful history - including as a medical school - the villa of the textile manufacturer and patron Paulschulenburg, which he designed and furnished, is now a worthy work of art, not only for art connoisseurs. We had a very informative tour inside and outside. In addition to the life and work of van de Velde, the work of theschulenberg family, other students and masters of the later Bauhaus era and the current owner Kielstein were honored here. It is thanks to the latter that what is visible again today. There is also a small café on site and parking spaces next door. Of course you can also explore the house and garden independently, but the tour is of high quality.

(Translated by Google) Brilliant building! After Villa Esche in Chemnitz and Haus Hohe Pappeln, this is our third property by star architect Henry van de Velde that we looked at. Completely thrilled again! It's hard to believe that the city of Gera gave up this world-class work of art (for whatever reason). The house, designed by Henry van de Velde in 1913/14, is now privately owned. All the more pleasing that neither expense nor effort was spared to restore this architectural jewel to its former glory and almost true to the original. My respect to the owners for this achievement. It cannot be valued highly enough that this testimony to architectural history is now available to the general public. The tour of the premises moved us emotionally.

Nestled in the charming city of Jena, the Planetarium Jena stands as a testament to astronomical innovation and history. Established in 1926, it is recognized as the world's oldest planetarium, originally housing the groundbreaking Zeiss Model 1 projector. This iconic dome-shaped venue offers an immersive experience with its impressive 14-meter dome that showcases a variety of shows ranging from educational programs to captivating music performances.
Discover the treasures of Planetarium Jena the world's oldest planetarium, as it celebrates its 100 anniversary in 2026, This historic site offers a fascinating journey through the cosmos, FULLDOME presentations and history of planetariums at all. Adjacent you will find a remarkable collection of Art Deco stone clocks in the very inviting cafe/bar. Perfect Spot to relax and reflect.
Cc2 L — Google review
It was a lovely experience but given the high price, you would expect that other people would practice a certain etiquette that’s expected. Five people during the 45-minute show were talking loudly and the person behind us was snoring. I think the staff should make sure that these (very basic) guidelines should be followed and respected.
J. J — Google review
It was a great presentation on Aurora, and some space explanations, I appreciate it being in the beautiful upscale city of Jena.
Mustafa J — Google review
Watched a special short-movie screening about microbes around us. Loved the dome effect and surround sound as well. A cool science place to go for fun learning.
Dr. B — Google review
The show itself was very good. If they'd remove the spider webs in front of the digital projectors, the images would be more crisp. The lady conducting the show is an unfriendly dragon. She invites you to ask questions at the beginning of the show which she will "gladly" answer, but in reality she is annoyed and grumpy. Asked about the difference between their planetarium and the peanut-shaped ones she just disses you because you don't know the difference between small and big domes. Asked whether their planetarium can display shifts in constellations over the millennia, rather than explaining that cosmic timescales are much larger, she just says nothing happens in 10.000 years and it's no problem for their device. Not helpful if you are interested in the technology and otherwise have no idea of cosmology. In summary, great show but bad service.
Tenshi H — Google review
The Planetarium is essentially a huge dome-shaped cinema, but an amazing one at that. The oldest planetarium in the world, its dome reaches 14m providing a spectacular opportunity to see the world from every angle. Programmes are split into different categories - educational, family and music, which enables a wider variety of visitors to experience the planetarium cinema. There is a small exhibition around the outside of the cinema and a very small shop selling lots of space-themed merchandise as well as coffee whilst you wait. There is a restaurant on site, however the planetarium could do with a wider exhibition space to enable people to learn more about the technology used and the history of the planetarium.
Caro L — Google review
The show was very interesting. (In German only) During the Covid times they really care about your safety. You need to book tickets in advance, and a few seats are left empty between the groups of visitors. The selection of the buffet could be improved.
Joz — Google review
I went to see “Space Tour” and it felt like staring at Windows’ screensavers for an hour. There were very few and poor explanations written (they don’t even bother to have someone talking), some of the images didn’t even have anything to do with space (like fireworks or random explosions). There was no storyline and very little science. Very disappointing considering it’s the oldest planetarium in the world.

Gardens
Jena's Botanical Garden, part of the university, has been around since 1586 and serves both academic and research purposes. Open every day except Christmas and New Year's Eve, it offers a serene escape from the city center. For a small fee, visitors can explore its greenhouses and grounds. The garden boasts an extensive collection of plants from various regions, including tropical and desert climates. While wheelchair accessible for the most part, some narrow paths may pose challenges.
This place houses so many species (plants and animals), it's astonishing. There are giant butterflies here that land on you to say hi. But beware, piranha's are present Walking in the garden is absolutely wonderful
Ludovic G — Google review
We had great time visiting the garden and many treasures it has. I can only recommend this place!
Jelena M — Google review
Good place for a relaxing moment in the heart of the city.
Kanishka H — Google review
Nice botanical garden with a big green house section with lots of exotic plants, little frogs, a butterfly section (not so many when we visited) and quite a large outdoor area. It makes for a nice walk.
Kharuna R — Google review
Very easily accessible from the city center. Very soothing and peaceful to spend an hour or two, or longer with a book or company. 2.50€ with a student discount. There’s a free audio guide, only a 10€ deposit is needed. Quite interesting. There’s a few halls (different climates, one tropical, one desert) and a pleasant outside areas. Highlight were the couple tomato plants that could be picked. Watch out for poisonous plants, especially with kids.
Linda C — Google review
A wonderful collection and very carefully maintained conditions. Historical settings of the place also adds a lot to the atmosphere.
W T — Google review
Not expensive for a great park. One area was closed which was quite disappointing but also understandable. The rest of the park was quite impressive and well maintained. Would definitely recommend to visit!

Architectural Buildings
JenTower, a 144.5-meter-high office tower in Jena, was built in the early 1970s as a research facility for VEB Carl Zeiss Jena. Designed by Hermann Henselmann, it stands as a modern landmark with its characteristic glass facade and an observation deck offering stunning city views at 128 meters high. The cylindrical tower's design alludes to an upright telescope, symbolizing Jena's optical industries.
Visiting the top of the JenTower is definitely worth it! We purchased a 20 euro coupon that paid for a cappuccino and cake at the restaurant located on the top. It was very tasty. The views were amazing and not too busy.
Suzanne D — Google review
Nice view of the city, worth a few euros (6 per person) for entrance. The elevator gets you up in no time!
Niels G — Google review
A great place to take a look at Jena from above. Take the elevator to the 26the floor and change there for another one taking you to the 29th floor where you will find the observation platform and a very good restaurant.
Sebastian R — Google review
Great view from the tower, worth taking time day and night! Plus, this is possibly the only spot in Jena where you don't see the tower... worth appreciation indeed 😃 Be ready for wind, it's much stronger than at the foot of the tower. Take an extra jacket.
Monika C — Google review
We had a spectacular dinner in the JenTower. An elevator takes you to floor 27 and from there another elevator takes you to floor 29. The view is very nice. The food is modern and visually appealing. The quality can be described as good. The design inside is very modern, but unfortunately a little dark. A good place for a relaxing evening with friends.
Christian T — Google review
Jena Tower costs €6 and is a must for anyone visiting Jena. Elevators take you up to the 27th floor in a matter of seconds and then the observation deck is on the 28th floor (another lift). The views from the top of the tower are simply spectacular with observation points around the whole tower. Remember a coat and hat! It is quite windy up there. Would be useful to have metal plaques at the top to point out landmarks, as the paper version just flew around all over the place!
Caro L — Google review
Tallest skyscraper in Eastern Germany (I assume outside of Berlin). Went to the viewing platform on the 28th floor which gives views of the entire city and valley. Great to have it, especially in summer with everything so green. 6 eur to visit. No dogs. No wait.
Paul H — Google review
Built in 1970, JenTower is in the list of the tallest buildings in Germany. It is always in sight when you roam around Jena. You can take an elevator and go up for 6€. The view is amazing, seeing all sides of the city. Additionally, you have chance to have a breakfast or meal there at the Tower. Personally, prices are moderate.

German-German Museum Mödlareuth

History museum
Museums
Local history museum
Specialty Museums
A must visit location for any student of history who is interested in the "Cold War" as experienced in Germany. While the Berlin wall gets a lot more attention the fascinating case of Mödlareuth is one that should get a lot more attention. Here was another town literally split in two once German was divided into East and West. On site museum, gift shop, and sample of vehicles really added to the experience. Highly recommend it.
Fred T — Google review
This place is a hidden gem that whispers tales of a bygone era. This is no ordinary museum; it's a time capsule, a portal to the past, where the echoes of the Cold War still resonate through the air. As a young soldier stationed in Germany during those turbulent times, the museum and exhibits hold special significance to me. I witnessed firsthand the stark contrast between the two sides of the border, the palpable tension that hung in the air like a thick fog. I watched the hope in the eyes of those who yearned for freedom and the relief in their faces when the Berlin Wall finally came crashing down. I was there, a moment in history as I took part in chipping it away. I highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to learn about the Cold War and the untold sacrifices of the people involved in the reunification of Germany.
Anibal P — Google review
A historic site, rightly called "Little Berlin." Admission is €4 for adults. The small cinema depicts the moving history of the site, which clearly illustrates the impact of the division of Europe on life in a provincial village. The large vehicle hall, with military and police vehicles from the Federal Republic of Germany and the GDR, is very interesting. I didn't see any food or kiosks.
Thomas — Google review
We are an English family, just to be clear. This museum is an absolute eye opener. One of the best displays of the East-West Germany divide outside of Berlin. This community was divided right through the middle by the wall. The village was known as "Little Berlin". The staff were amazing and did everything they could to help us as we don't speak good German! The display of the checkpoint and wall are extremely interesting. There are a lot of monuments as well. There is also a vehicle museum. It is in a separate building up the hill, though the ticket is required for entry to all museum sections. Don't forget to check if out! There are toilets and a gift shop. Everything is disability accessible, but this is not really a great museum for a rainy day! If you like your recent history, this museum is 100% worth visiting!
Thinskin 4 — Google review
The museum grounds are vast and in outstanding shape. Everything is well maintained. The museum itself offers a movie granting a comprehensive historical / historiographical overview about the area and its meaning that is expanded on in the upper exhibitionin room. The new museum wasn't finished when I visited, so that's part of the next visit. My favorite part was the chance to climb a watchtower: the view makes clear that those towers were not used to control what the enemy was doing but to control the own population. This of course is clear to everyone but to experience it was an insightful experience.
Konstantin F — Google review
Small museum at the former border between the Bundesrepublik and DDR. Interesting to see the effects of the Cold War at such a local scale. When visiting the museum, don't skip the film which contains a lot video material from history. Very good to see it preserved this way!
Niels G — Google review
I was an American soldier stationed with 2/2 Armored Cavalry Regiment and patrolled this sector of the border during the mid 80's. I won't bore everyone with tales of what we did to the East Germans (and what they did to us) - but by the time I visited the museum with my wife and niece in 2018, thankfully, tensions had cooled, and I had a wonderful discussion with the man giving the video presentation - who had been an East German Border Guard himself during the time I had been there! Funny.....I don't remember the Gaks being that big back in the day!
Ron L — Google review
Terrific educational and historical gem of a divided town and smaller museum whose preservations are still on-going that houses different types of exhibitions (vehicles, historical accounts/photos, outside wall and watchtower, plus surrounding other facets, library). English is limited (outside placards excellent plus video). Well worth the drive out here (in this town cell signal may be lost so pay attention for when Google Maps won't load!). Ample parking and cheap €3 entrance price.

(Translated by Google) Yes, if you are looking for peace and relaxation. The bathroom is not large, but completely sufficient. The saunas are very nice and well maintained. The whole bathroom is not overcrowded. An infusion takes place every hour. Special thanks go to the two sauna masters Heiko and Peter, who always responded to the wishes of their guests. We were even given music at our request and were asked in advance before the official infusion if we wanted something on the stove. Thank you very much and keep it up!

(Translated by Google) Unreservedly recommended! I was able to enjoy radon baths and other treatments here in Bad Bramberg for two weeks and was also in the bathing and sauna area a few times. Beforehand, I also looked at the reviews here on Google. I really can't understand how you can give this one star! Regarding the price for the day ticket for the swimming area including sauna, I can only say that we are already over €30.00 in Bad Windsheim and if you consider the manufacturing costs, personnel and energy costs, €24.00 is justified in my opinion. In detail: The bathroom, which “only” has an indoor and a connected outdoor pool, is completely sufficient and – due to the lack of fun areas for children – is very quiet and relaxing. Bubble areas and water jets are available and work well. The bathroom is in excellent new, clean and well-maintained condition. The sauna area is divided into an indoor and outdoor area and is also in top condition! A suggestion for improvement (of course without deducting a star!): Since there is only a toilet inside the sauna area and you can only get from the outside to the inside via the bathing area, you have to get dressed again. Direct access would be practical here. The therapy area, which has only been redesigned in recent years, is beautifully done, the treatment rooms are modern and in top condition. You feel completely comfortable! What struck me very positively (as a guest who lived in a nearby holiday apartment) was the bathrobe room on level -2. Here you can store your belongings for the treatments in your own cupboard throughout the entire time and you don't have to carry around so much. All the staff (whom I met in a friendly manner) were very friendly, helpful and had good advice if I had any questions. I'll definitely come back.

(Translated by Google) From the bathrobe corridor from the hotel to the sauna area/bathroom, it was a bit confusing to find the actual entrance. The bathroom itself was quite cold, but clean, tidy and well maintained. Indoor bubble loungers, shallow-water swimming opportunities, and massage jets are available. A pool with a lift can also be found here. The outdoor area is very unspectacular and the hot tub loungers don't work either. According to the swimming master, austerity measures are responsible for this. In addition, 3 saunas were out of operation; according to the signs, they are only heated once a week. The indoor steam sauna is very small, but is completely sufficient. The two outdoor saunas are very large and serve their purpose. Every hour there is an infusion in one of the saunas. The relaxation area with a fireplace is also very nice and invites you to linger. Price/performance not necessarily proportionate.

The Deutsches Spielzeugmuseum is a beautiful museum showcasing toys from various periods, including dolls, tin toys, and trains. Visitors can explore the 'Thuringer Kirmes' with audio explanations in a separate room. The museum offers play corners for children and a relaxing area with vending machines for parents. It's recommended for both kids and adults as it provides an insightful journey into German toy history.

Normally not bad. But caused by the Covid 19 situation a little bit restricted. It is good for parents or grandparents to explain the old toys to their children. Hint: They have an audio guide but the person at the desk did not tell it to us, although we asked for a guided tour. When we left the museum, then a new person told us, that an audio guide was available. It was to late.

It's a great Air Show @greifvogelpark No air pollution 😝.. Nice falconry show. This Vulture Eagle made us laugh. The Griffon vulture is a rare type of vulture eagle, with an impressive size and up to a 3m wingspan, and is Europe’s second largest bird. It is an Old World vulture and a member of the bird of prey family of Accipitridae. It can be seen majestically soaring on thermal currents searching for food in the warmer, rugged parts of countries that surround the Mediterranean.

The Bayreuth Festival Theatre is a 19th-century venue with a grand stage specifically designed for the works of composer Richard Wagner. It hosts the annual Bayreuth Festival, a renowned opera celebration that attracts visitors from around the world. The city also offers a vibrant culinary scene, featuring traditional Bavarian eateries, trendy cafes, and craft beer breweries. Notable landmarks in Bayreuth include the Margrave's Opera House, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The Bayreuther Festspielhaus is for all Opera enthusiasts and culture lovers. This place is worth a longer visit. Ofcourse especially for the Wagner Opera weeks in summer. It might just a bit tricky to get tickets, just be pacient. Here are also a few very disappointing things. First of all… parking is 10€ to be paid in cash (just be aware). Also you are not allowed to bring in bags bigger than a small handbag, also sitting pillows are not any longer allowed to bring in - you need to get them inside (if you are lucky). One last thing, a small Mineral Water (0,25l) is 5,50€. - Just a pity they take such an advantage out of their guests.

Attending the Bayreuth Festival is an indelible experience for all Wagner fans and also for anyone who loves our is interested in Western culture. The productions can be uneven because of the German love of theatrical deconstructionism (Regietheater), but the music making and all the craziness surrounding the festival itself is truly something to be experienced at least once in one's life.

Beautiful opera house with amazing acoustics. The only downside is the lack of translation of the libretto… I know, many would say: ‘that’s how Wagner left it’🥹 Summer 2025: Tristan and Isolde had fabulous musical performance and Meistersinger had beautiful staging.
Gabriel B — Google review
Really enjoyed my evening here. The sound in the opera hall is really great. With every seat sold the theater was really fully packed, but even though the place was so crowded, the politeness and hospitality of the attendees and the staffs at the various venues lent to a very enjoyable and stress-free evening. I would recommend anyone to attend this venue. I watched Tristan and Isolde, the Performances, the staging, and choreography especially between the orchestra and the singers was unmatched, as this is one of the most difficult operas to coordinate. It was excellently done and a pleasure to experience.
Swede S — Google review
Just got back from seeing the entire Ring Cycle last week. If you are lucky enough to get tickets, go without hesitation. We were sat in the mittleloge (bottom row of boxes) and had an excellent view of the stage despite being the back row because the rake is excellent. The seats were cushioned & very comfy (nothing like the "hard wooden" description I was expecting! The stalls seats are less padded though from appearance, but you can borrow cushions from the theatre if necessary). Yes the direction/set was a bit whacky (so if you're a purist this may not be your cup of tea), but the sound is like nothing else you'll ever experience - world class singers, world class orchestra, perfect balance (due to the orchestra being under the stage), could hear every word (not that I understood it but no matter if you know the story the acting and music will be enough). Tasty bratwurst for the intervals, no dress code (although a lot of people dress up, I'd say don't go in your jeans!). Excellent all round.

A Must-Visit in Bayreuth - Amazing and Classy Experience An amazing and classy experience! The best music and a great opera house with the best acoustics. Bayreuth is a must-visit at least once in a lifetime. And the festival - don’t miss this experience if you have the chance!
Razvan D — Google review
I have waited more than 10 years for tickets to the Wagner Festspiel, and it was well worth the wait. I was concerned that the opera house does not have AC and the seats are uncomfortable, but it really was quite bearable. The dress is formal, and the audience remained still as a mouse for the entire two and a half hours of the performance of Das Rheingod that I saw. There are no surtitles so you need to do your homework. The singing is world-class and the orchestra perfect in all regards. The sound from the Wagner orchestra pit lives up to all the hype. The orchestra, including the brass, can play at full volume, but they never cover the singers, and every word can be understood. Amazing! A word about the Bayreuth productions, they have been described as avant guard. They certainly may not be to everyone's taste, but it is, after all, part of the Festspiel "experience." If you are fortunate to get tickets to this unique venue, give it a try. There is nothing else like it in the world.

Beautiful! Beautiful and again Beautiful place! Very affordable, interesting exposition about history of the theater. Really worth visiting. There is WC (you don't have to buy ticket for that). Note, that you can't go with your backpack and it has to be stored so keep 1 euro coin to lock the locker

From the outside you could mistake it for any other old tenement house. Inside it's the most impressive opera I have ever seen, worthy of UNESCO title for sure. The visit to the Opera is limited to ground floor seats and a view from one of the lounges (unless you go with the guide) after that it's a modern museum, which is also quite interesting and has a miniature scene with which you can play. You can't bring any bags even the smallest ones, cabinets are downstairs for 1euro you get back. I wish someday to visit a play here since it has to be magical.

Additionally, visitors can explore the place where Wagner lived and learn about his history and family.

David A — Google review
A museum dedicated to Richard Wagner, but you will learn only odd bits of information about him here. Perhaps there is an assumption that the people who visit are all Wagner devotees who know everything about him. It is worth seeing the rooms on the ground floor of the house, which have been restored to look as they did when Wagner lived there, but many items are covered up and unable to be seen. The upper floor which is supposed to describe his life is organised in a series of rooms, each of which deals with a certain period. Fine in principle, but there is no indication of where you should go to in what order. Some years appeared to be missing altogether. The actual content is scant - facsimiles of scores, copies of photos etc. Some limited information is given about Wagner on a sign in each room, but we are never told how he came to be given a house by the king of Bavaria. Or how he came to be so rich that he could have portraits and sculptures of himself and his family made by top artists, when for long periods of his life he had to move frequently because he was so poor. So much about him is left out. How was he able to build his own opera house? You won't find out here. The information on the main signs in each room is in both German and English, but the English is so poor (google translate?) that it is at times laughable. So many people come to Bayreuth for the Wagner Festival paying so much money - is it really too much to ask that some of that money could have been spent on having proper English translations? And don't bother with the audio guide. There's hardly anything on it.
Lynne M — Google review
A really in-depth museum that does great justice to Wagner! It did a good job of covering his life and gave lots of interesting insights to him and his family. Occasionally there was info only in German, and I wish there were English translations for all the info boards, but it’s still super enjoyable for a Wagner fan regardless of your language. I think the entry price is fair when compared to other museums I’ve visited around Europe so far. This was my favourite day of my Europe trip and I’m very glad I got to visit
Alice K — Google review
Great place to visit and learn more about Wagner. But ONLY if you're interested in Wagner. Basicly it's 3 museums. Wahnfried, where he lived is about where he lived and his life. Then the house next to it where his son Siegfried lived with his wife Winnifred, showing the darker side of the Wagner family history. Then there is the latest modern addition which houses an exhibition of custumes of the Wagner operas and temporary exhibitions. There is also a silent movie made for his 100th birthday. All in all very interesting and informative.
Michiel F — Google review
Enjoyed walking around Wagner's house, there was an English translation if you want one. One of the gentlemen who worked there gave me a mini personal tour in German, which was lovely. He also informed me that the Listz's house was next door. The coffee shop was good with some yummy cakes.

Way above my anticipation! I was gonna visit the liszt museum but RWM was on the way, in the end this one trumpped Liszt museum from a non-German speaker, non-Wagner fan's viewpoint. To start with, impressive collections of costumes and opera set design down the -1 floor, with helpful staff who gave me an informative explanation when my tour guide stopped working. (sidenote: its a bit sad to see the conductor wall swarming with nothing but white men) The museum buildings have been renovated in recent years in a fancy but not extravagant way. And they have the most comfortable sofa seat of all the museums that Ive been. P4 is Wagner's study/workplace, what a view!

Kloster Speinshart - Stiftskirche Maria Immaculata

Catholic church

Churches & Cathedrals
Absolutely the most beautiful church I've ever seen (ranks with Notre Dame). It isn't remarkable from the outside, but inside is a hidden treasure. I believe it was built in the late 15th century. It has been very well preserved since. This is a must see!

(Translated by Google) Just noticed it by chance while listening past. A beautiful baroque monastery, large complex with an open monastery church inn and free toilet. You can park in the inner courtyard or, coming from Tremmersdorf, there is a small parking lot at the entrance on the right. (Original) Nur zufällig beim Vorbeifshren bemerkt. (Translated by Google) The monastery village of Speinshart extends in a pentagon that is open to the south. It consists of the monastery's former farm buildings. Almost all of the buildings have been extensively restored and are now inhabited by private individuals. The north gate is the actual entrance to the complex, which is adjoined to the south by the monastery inn and finally the rectangular monastery building with the baroque church, which is lavishly decorated with stucco and frescoes. But there is also access from the south along an avenue of old trees, at the end of which you end up directly at the parking lot in front of the monastery complex. The Premonstratensian Order founded the monastery in 1145 and built the first monastery church in the Romanesque style in the same century. According to plans by Wolfgang Dientzenhofer, from the family of master builders who also worked on the Waldsassen Basilica, the current monastery church was created when the entire monastery complex was redesigned around 1700. The side altars are partly decorated with inlay work, the two front ones with stucco luster. The discreetly colored carvings on the cheeks of the church chairs, which show the instruments of Jesus' suffering, carried by angels, are remarkable. A statue of the Virgin Mary in a wreath of flowers hangs above the central aisle, which tells us that the church is dedicated to the Mother of God.

Summer toboggan run
Water & Amusement Parks
Erlebnisfelsen Pottenstein is a must-visit destination in Pottenstein during the spring and summer. It offers an amusement park experience with toboggan runs, rope courses, and a viewing deck overlooking a forested canyon. This is an ideal way to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of Franconia without extensive hiking. The park provides various rides suitable for families, including toboggan runs that offer adjustable speeds and are reasonably priced.
A day trip in Pottenstein can be fun with this experience. It has only 3 rides but all of them were funny and very kids friendly. The tickets costs 4€ for each ride. The que was very long hence buy all 3 tickets together and enjoy!
Virta W — Google review
A fun place to spend a day. You can buy a per ride ticket. That way you can buy tickets only for the rides you are interested in. There is a restaurant and a small ice cream shop inside. Washrooms are available in the premises and there is plenty of car parking space.
Padmini S — Google review
Good place to visit with kids, we have spent some nice time being there and enjoyed ourselves. Rides were good and safe for everyone. Restaurant was good but due to heavy crowd the waiting times were too high.
Hemanth S — Google review
Kids and adults both had fun here! We came here in the morning of a weekend. While the parking was quite crowded, we didn’t have to queue up for each ride. There were more people coming after lunch time though.
Don P — Google review
The site itself is lovely, the facilities are fun, the view is amazing, there is a comfortable restaurant and convenient parking. But we had an unpleasant experience. We bought 6 tickets at the ticket office - 4 for the roller coaster for all of us (a couple with two daughters) and 2 for the sleds just for my husband and daughter. After we all did the first slide, my husband and daughter went to the sled slide. The line was long but we waited patiently. When it was there turn, my husband already went in with his ticket and when my daughter tried to go up with her, it was listed as having zero balance! Even though the four used tickets were separately in my pocket. Unfortunately, they left the line and went back up. When I went up to the cashier and explained the situation, she acted like I was trying to lie to her. When I realized there was no one to talk to, I bought two more tickets. I wasn't bothered by the money but by the feeling that she didn't even think there was a possibility that there was a problem with them. When my husband and daughter went back to the line, the same thing happened to another father and son... too bad.

Fun time! Rides for all ages so bring the whole family. Best part is free admission! They charge per ride/attraction and the prices are very reasonable. Of Disney charged per ride they'd go out of business but here it's a great working model.
Philip S — Google review
It's your typical amusement park. Not too big, there are a couple of nice rides, nothing too extreme so it's ok even for someone who isn't an adrenaline junkie. The waiting lines are decent even on a weekend.

Surprisingly beautiful hilltop18th Century Baroque Catholic Church (especially the inside!) in the center of a charming small town which is itself centered among a beautiful rocky river valley geography. Plenty of nearby parking (bring €2 coins!). An important Bamburg pilgrimmage basilica built atop existing religious sites in Franconian Switzerland. Also a Pokémon Gym!

(Translated by Google) A great basilica. Together with the medieval, fairytale knight's castle, it shapes the townscape of Gößweinstein. The facade made of bright ocher yellow sandstone is clearly structured. It is dominated by a richly decorated portal and the statues of the diocese saints, Emperor Heinrich and his wife Empress Kunigunde. Inside, the baroque high altar attracts the attention of church visitors. The miraculous image, the destination of pilgrims from near and far, represents the coronation of Mary by the Holy Trinity. A powerful organ sounds during the solemn services, played by a gifted organist. A visit to the neighboring pilgrimage museum is also worthwhile.

Devil's Cave

Mentioned on

Nature & Parks
Caverns & Caves
Devil's Cave, also known as Teufelshohle, is a fascinating multi-chambered limestone cave with impressive stalactites and stalagmites. The cave earned its name from local folklore attributing the disappearance of livestock to the devil. Discovered in 1922, it revealed animal remains that had fallen into the cave. Visiting the cave involves navigating through different chambers with tight passageways and low ceilings, making it unsuitable for strollers or carrying infants.
Nice cave, a pleasant guided tour (in German). Inside the cave there are quite a few staircases, be ready you go up and downstairs quite a lot. We were there on a long weekend, it was quite crowded. You buy the ticket first and get a time slot to visit the cave. In our case slots were available in about 30 minutes. The tour lasts about 45 minutes.
Google review
We did the 40 minute group tour and found it interesting and informative. It is cold and wet inside so appropriate clothing and footwear is a must. Also, be prepared for a long walk. There is paid parking outside the caves and the max duration to park is 2.5 hours. There is a café at the exit. It also sells a few souvenirs.
Padmini S — Google review
The best place to visit near Nuremberg, amazing atmosphere, Nature at its best, chilly inside the cave with a lot of stones made of water drops over the year and one was 2000 years old. The guided tour with the German and English language and the guide was super nice. The ticket price was just 9 euros for adult, it was around 45 mins of tour inside the cave. Once in a lifetime experience for me. Deutschland Ticket works there in Schmetterling Busses. What are you waiting for?
Rahul P — Google review
It's wonderful! I'd recommend a guided tour and warm clothes. Not for disabled people. Lots of stairs and tight on several parts of the way. Absolutely worth it. Dogs are allowed.
Sabine W — Google review
We visited on a Sunday, early afternoon. It wasn't overly crowded. The tour guide also spoke in English. It was worth the trip. It was a good experience. After exiting the cave, you can enjoy a nice refreshment at the cafe, go for a hike, or visit the coaster park (up the mountain). We were very pleased.

Great fun and very unique cave! The audio- and visual effects inside were fun too - and the exit outside of the cave was almost magical! Really beautiful grassy and moss-covered rock formations and mountain cliffs. Beautiful sight, our kids had fun here!

Erlebnispark Schloss Thurn

Amusement park
Water & Amusement Parks
Virtual reality games, water slides & coasters in a family park with carousels & a boating lake.
This is our favorite park in Bavaria to take our grandchild. Everything about this park is perfect for children up to 9 or 10 years old. There is never a huge line for rides, and the shows are always good. The prices at the concession stands are always reasonable, and there is plenty of seating scattered throughout the park. A day at Schloss Thurn is always fun.
Patrick S — Google review
This amusement park was so much fun! Children and adults both had a great time. The park is really big so even if there are a lot of people, it won’t get so crowded. We went here during the weekday and didn’t have to wait for any of the rides/activities. There are so many things to do in this park and it was not possible to try everything. We’d definitely want to come back here.
Don P — Google review
It's a blast, huge, great park for a family with kids under the age of 10 or 12. It's really kitch. It is a bit run down. It has a nostalgic charm. I thought the entrance fee was a little high, compared to similar amusement parks. The food was reasonably priced. There is a portion themed for the wild west of the USA. It was super fun to spend time in a park with a section themed for where our kids were born.
Michael V — Google review
The park was pretty good, lots to do. One thing that can be done better is to, my opinion, Ban smoking in the park. As there are lots of kids there smoking should be banned as an effort for kids and nonsmokers to have a better day while in the park. Some food stands need customer service training for sure, food safety is not practiced as it was noticed. But overall the park and the rides and the entertainment was pretty Good.
Richard M — Google review
Just the best. Wonderful time. Went during the week; no wait for any bring. Just perfect.

This amusement park is ideal for a family with young children, my daughter is 3 years old, she was able to take part in all the attractions, except for two of which she has not yet reached the size. had. The park is well-kept and lovingly laid out, a bit old, a bit dusty, but definitely worth a visit for the whole family.

"City glasses"

Historical landmark

Wonderful stone old bridge crossing the river. Right by the cathedral so nice to walk along the river and admire its architecture…
Alex B — Google review
Perched gracefully over the Vils River, the Stadtbrille—literally “City Glasses”—is a late-medieval water gate and part of Amberg’s historic city fortifications. Constructed between the late 14th and early 15th century (first recorded in 1454 as the “passage over the Vils”), it spans about 46 m across the river. What makes it magical is its two semicircular arches, which—paired with their bright reflections in the Vils—form the appearance of giant spectacles hovering on the water. It connects the former Electoral Palace (Kurfürstliches Schloss) on one bank with the old armory (“Zeughaus”) on the other. In the late 1500s, additional towers and stacked upper floors were built by court architect Hans Hauck. These were removed in 1698, giving the Stadtbrille its current elegant silhouette. Uniquely, this water gate is considered the “fifth city gate”, complementing the city’s wall gates. A third central arch—long forgotten—was rediscovered and reopened in 1996 during restoration efforts. A photogenic gem, especially at night when illuminated—perfect for that iconic “glasses” reflection shot alongside St. Martin’s Basilica.

Above the arches is a kind of wall with beautiful windows. There's also a roof above the wall. Between the arches is an angular vault. Definitely worth seeing.

Swimming pool
Water & Amusement Parks
Extensive swimming & fitness facility with lagoon pools, water slides & areas for kids or adults.
Great family friendly pool with so many options for kids of all ages. They make everything easy with the cards they issue when you first arrive, allowing you to use a locker and receive a RFID bracelet to enter the facility and pay for food without needing to bring a wallet into the pool. I will miss taking my family. Recommend for any family looking for a close and fun event.
Eric P — Google review
A nice, very reasonably priced facility. We have only gone on weekdays and only to the sauna, so I cannot comment on weekends. But it's not terribly crowded. The food and drinks are good and they have a very nice selection of small saunas with one large one that has very nice hourly infusions. We visit about once a week or so for wellness.
William A — Google review
Good for small kids. Parking is no longer free. Qualifies as an underdeveloped resource which would benefit from an expansion. Recent renovations include repainted ceilings and walls to remove water stains, improved tropical plantings, and a new electronic entry system which was unfortunately poorly implemented. The spa area is approximately 50% hallway with seating similar to a waiting room. There is no swimming pool within the spa area. You will find several showers, an ice machine, and a large under-used outdoor area adjacent to several saunas. The pool+spa concept could be better integrated, which would eliminate wasted and duplicate space. Areas for very small babies, adults without children, and non-swimmers are underserved. The changing rooms require a total redesign. Floor space should be expanded. Flow between the spa, pool, bathing area, and changing rooms is very poor, resulting in wasted space. A door is needed between the rear adjustable height exercise pool and the bathing area. The empty space outside in the spa area should be enclosed and additional pools added. The designers correctly recognize that the tropical plants greatly improve the experience and have increased the size and diversity of plants in 3 to 4 locations. Visibility was reduced between the pool and bathing area, which was a good choice. Thankfully they appear to be moving away from 1980's decor towards tropical spa similar to Bade Paradies in Titisee. They should continue in this direction, at a scale appropriate for the area and budget.
Arlen S — Google review
The pool and children's area are both exceptional. The slide is particularly impressive, and the sauna facilities are outstanding.
Gasner P — Google review
I am glad I did not listen to the reviews and decided to go. It’s a nice facility with many areas for kids to go to. The two turnstiles are really not a big deal; one at the entrance and one after the lockers. You can use your pool card for them or the locker key, which you can wear as a bracelet. If parking is too expensive, you can park further down. We paid 1,40€ for the time we were there. If the “frozen/expensive” foods worry you, you can take your own and nobody will say anything. There are trashcans around where you can discard your trash and keep the area neat. The facilities are clean and you can see personnel around maintaining them. It was not freezing cold, like some of the reviews suggested. Weather outside was around 7 Celsius when we visited. Maybe it gets really cold inside when it’s really cold outside? We found a little corner with two chairs very easily. Cannot comment on the sauna, as I did not use it. Overall, a pretty good time. Will definitely be back.
Vivian B — Google review
Have been to many pools, but the quality of water and comfort are the best. A little pricey and no free parking are the downside.
Chandu J — Google review
Great inexpensive swimming with comfortable pools for the kids to learn to swim. Water slides are great for younger children as they are not extreme. Toddler area is clean. The large slide comes into a 1.3m deep pool, so place life vest on children that do not swim.
Steven G — Google review
Nice sauna-area, pool is a little old-fashioned but nothing to complain about considering it's a fairly cheap entry fee. Only thing we didn't like was that there is no option to pay with card in the restaurant in the pool-area. There's also no way of saving the tap on the wristband to pay afterwards. Unfortunately they didn't disclose this until when at the register, so definitely take cash to pay. Also parking in the parking garage is free when visiting the pool!

We got a voucher in September and already in October - on the first attempt - the trip worked in the best weather and wind with 10 knots. The balloon was in the air for 55 minutes. We covered almost 40 km. The assembly and dismantling is very interesting. The ride was fantastic. The whole team and of course the pilot are very nice and answer every question. The calm and professionalism that pilot Holger exudes makes you feel safe right from the start. Price/performance absolutely great and justified. (Translated by Google) You set off on your balloon ride with a little bit of anxiety, but then your pondering quickly comes to an end because you are asked to actively participate in the launch preparations. It quickly becomes clear: there are absolute professionals at work here who know exactly what they are doing. This also has a very calming effect. And then everything happens in a very relaxed atmosphere: the huge umbrella slowly inflates and rises above the basket. Then everything happens very quickly. Everyone involved climbs more or less nimbly into the basket and the balloon rises silently and majestically into the sky. This moment is so 'uplifting' that by now all fear has vanished. We float, moved and silent, in the light of the evening sun over the magnificent landscape of Upper Franconia and over Bayreuth and I believe that none of the balloonists will ever forget this experience. Thanks to the great team at Sky Adventure! The whole thing runs absolutely professionally, from setting it up on the ground, flying with the experienced pilot Holger, being accompanied by the Landys on the ground, dismantling and a nice conclusion at the end. The weather brings with it frequent postponements, that's probably the case with ballooning, but communication - and booking - goes great via a web portal. We really enjoyed it - and the flight was just great!

(Translated by Google) An unforgettable experience!!! Even for someone for whom getting into a hot air balloon is a challenge. The organization and implementation were simply perfect. The adventure began with setting up the balloon. You don't just get in. We all helped fill the balloon with air and then take off together. The beautiful view, the peace at the top, the small houses, meadows, forests and especially the sunset... The trip was simply a dream that you want to dream again and again!!! Many thanks to the pilot Holger and the crew. (Original) Ein unvergessliches Erlebnis!!!

Max-Morlock-Stadion

Stadium
Sights & Landmarks
The Max-Morlock-Stadion is a football stadium in Nuremberg, Germany. It was venue for the 2006 FIFA World Cup. The stadium has excellent public transport connections and is easy to reach each point of the city. The atmosphere inside the stadium is great despite its size from other stadiums I have been to. I would recommend going to a local match vs Dortmund if you're in the area.
Attended the Bundesliga 2 match Vs Hertha Berlin in October! I was blown away with the passion of both sets of fans! German football fans really are unique and proud of their teams no matter what! I managed to get seats next to the FC Nürnberg Ultras and they were fantastic throughout the whole match! What particularly amazed me how the stadium is located on the grounds of the former rally grounds & the amount of history you can explore before you attend a football match! I will hope to be back again some day!

Visited for the Nürnberg vs Arsenal match. Lively view even with the track around the pitch because the stands are elevated.

Wolfstein Castle

Centuries-old hilltop fort ruins with an excavated moat & chapel, plus guided tours on Sundays.
This is not a pile of rubble marking the ruins of a castle. It is a large complex with multiple rooms, evidence of several levels including a natural ravine/gorge that would serve a similar role like a moat and an extensive outer wall. Considering that it was in full use a thousand years ago it is a fascinating site to explore.

Wolfstein Castle (Burgruine Wolfstein) is a beautiful and peaceful spot that’s perfect for a short hike and a taste of medieval history. Located on a hill above the town of Neumarkt in Bavaria, the castle ruins date back to the 12th century and still have an impressive presence. The walk up to the castle is easy and scenic, taking visitors through forest paths and offering lovely views along the way. Once at the top, the remains of the stone walls and towers give a great sense of what the fortress once was. There's also a viewing platform that offers stunning panoramic views over Neumarkt and the surrounding countryside. It’s free to explore, and while the ruins aren’t large, they have a peaceful charm that makes it a nice place to spend an hour or so. There are also a few benches at the top, perfect for relaxing and soaking in the scenery. Wolfstein Castle is great for anyone who enjoys light hiking, history, and beautiful views. It’s a quiet, less crowded alternative to bigger tourist sites, making it a perfect stop if you’re in the area.

Took a trek right from the train station as we went there on the weekend and the buses were not operational. It took about an hour to reach the ruins but the journey was worth it. The tower was open, so I could enjoy the breathtaking view. The place takes about 30 min to explore but I would recommend a hike or trek to enjoy the place to its fullest.

It was easy to find parking right outside the little town. It was an easy 5-minute walk to the castle. The only disappointing thing was that there is very little to discover. There is only one plaque that we could find with anything written on it about the castle. And guided tours of the spire are only available on Saturdays. The rest of the castle can easily be explored in under 10 minutes. The best thing about this Castle is the view. You can see the entire valley and distinguish no less than 8 or 9 different towns. It's breathtaking.

Tours of the watch tower are only available on Sunday from 1pm - 5pm at the moment. But I grew up in the 80's and 90's playing the video game Wolfenstein 3D on a PC so had to come have a look. Really spectacular and fantastic views of the local town.

Gorgeous castle ruins on a mountain top overlooking the town of Neumarkt.

Good place for hiking (beginner level), there is an amazing view from the hill top to the Neumarkt town. Castle ruins is amazing to discover, it takes 1 hour to visit the castle with good view of the town, which is a valley surrounded by small hills. A parking space is available in the field which is free of cost.

Museum for Historical Maybach Vehicles

Museum
Specialty Museums
Automobile history museum displaying a chronological collection of antique Maybach luxury cars.
Cool luxury car museum. Learned that Maybach made much more than cars. Definitely worth checking out!
Philip S — Google review
Very interesting but the display of the cars was a bit boring, old fashioned. The artefact and the parafernalia displays were very nice. I wanted to pay with an EU debit card and at first they did not accept it. Once they realized I had no other means of payment it was okay. All by all I have learned a lot about the Maybach company.
Bonosbones — Google review
consist of one floor and includes the history of Maybach creation and the development through the years till the destruction of the workshop in 1945. the rooms are wide with informations on all the big and luxury Maybach which once existed. motor engines and collectibles are there also to see. a collection of famous express bicycles and motorcycles is there. souvenirs, cafe and a cinema is available. dont miss it.
David A — Google review
Extremely interesting collection of pre-war Maybach cars. Facilities and restaurant closed due to private party.
Marcel S — Google review
The museum is great. Anyone interested in old cars and aviation with Zeppelins has come to the right place. Entrance fee of 9.50 euros is just about okay. However, parts of the museum are not heated. Be sure to dress warmly in winter. A room temperature that was 3 or 4 degrees higher wouldn't have been bad. No credit cards accepted, only debit cards. December 2023

I guess it is over rated; though there was some nice vintage cars, but the museum is relatively small. I was expecting to see some new cars. There are some interesting facts though, about the bike industry and patents, and also the war tanks industry. The video related to the Hindenburg disaster and the crash of the Zeppelin in the US in 1937, was really touching!
Patrick K — Google review
I expected more cars. The documentary about Zeppelin was interesting.
Ana D — Google review
Although it's a nice little museum with very nice expose, it would be nice, if the lights are switched ON, as it's quite difficult to read about the exhibits in a dark room (even if it's only 2pm)
