One of the best escape games I have ever found. Without giving too much away this was excellently managed and they find a way to suit people that speak Estonian but also have English versions for those that don’t speak Estonian. Super cool that it has been built into the remnants of an abandoned prison. If you’re an escape room nut make sure you give this a try. You won’t be disappointed.
Richard L — Google review
The place itself is excellent, a real prison, but we did not like the organization of the quest. There were too many people, especially in our room, who also spoke different languages - it was a mess. Also the first room was too difficult and we couldn't pass it, but we suffered for a long time and didn't get any hints, it got boring. At the end it was a little better, but there were even more people and we could not participate in solving the puzzles. Also, there were no actors (some wrote here they had actors), only one girl as a prison guard
Alexandra G — Google review
Cool place, very realistic atmosphere ( well, a former prison premises ) Was a bit difficult to get clear in the beginning ( some hints were missing, but the staff gave help). It's a thing "must do" in Pärnu!
Olena K — Google review
Setting and place was good, but the game was not very linear and some clues were super random and even the game master could not explan it, just give answer
Lauris K — Google review
Very exciting and adrenaline-full experience! Will surely be visiting this place again when visiting pärnu! 5/5

Spa Hotel Tervise Paradiis

Mentioned on
5 lists
Hotel
Water & Amusement Parks
Tervise Paradiis Spa Hotel & Water Park is a laid-back hotel located in Parnu, Estonia's largest water park. The hotel offers a range of amenities including water slides, a spa, and even a bowling alley. Guests can enjoy massages, body treatments, and facials for relaxation. The hotel also features 2 indoor swimming pools, 2 spa tubs, and complimentary access to the water park for recreational activities.
Just came back from a stay at Spa Tervise Paradiis and loved every moment! The free pass to the water park was such a fun bonus — slides, saunas, jacuzzis, and more. The breakfast was absolutely amazing with a huge variety, fresh options, and delicious coffee. The rooms were cozy and clean, and the view from the balcony was beautiful. Friendly staff, great location right near the beach — everything you need for a perfect getaway. Highly recommend for couples, families, or a solo wellness trip. Will definitely return!
Stiven D — Google review
Very nice hotel in an excellent location. The beach is close by. The general appearance of the hotel is modern. We had a room with a balcony with a great sea view. Our beds and air conditioning were ok. The spa with a good selection of different slides was a nice experience. The customer service was good. The breakfast did not fully meet expectations due to the limited selection of warm meat dishes. Usually just small sausages and fried bacon. The shower in our hotel room was a big disappointment because of too weak water pressure. However, the overall rating is very good.
Mika K — Google review
There has definitely been a downgrade with this spa hotel. They don’t clean the rooms during your stay, even if you stay for the whole weekend. Generally the cleanness could be better! Spa area is little bit outdated, I didn’t see anyone cleaning the area during the stay. There is one bar but there is only one worker and often the bar is even empty and you have to wait for a long time for someone to come. Also - our baby got awful rash from the pools. Next day we saw that the pool in sauna area was closed.. maybe there was something in the water then. Breakfast wasn’t very good either. I wouldn’t visit it anymore, I think there are better spas in Pärnu!
Katrin S — Google review
Spa Hotel Tervise Paradiis is an excellent destination for both relaxation and family fun. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and offer beautiful views of the sea, making it a truly peaceful place to unwind. The breakfast buffet is good, with a wide variety of options to suit all tastes. The water park is a major highlight, especially for kids and families. It features four exciting slides and several fun activities, making it easy to spend hours there. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and the overall atmosphere is welcoming and stress-free. One thing to be aware of: the water park uses a high amount of chlorine. If you have any sensitivities, allergies, or skin issues, it might be something to keep in mind. I experienced a bit of a reaction myself, so just a heads-up for others in a similar situation. Aside from that, everything was fantastic. Would definitely recommend this hotel for a family vacation or a calm seaside escape.
Sri V — Google review
I really enjoyed the hotel. We had a rainy week during our stay at Parnu so the water park was extra useful. The kid really liked it. The small indoor play room was also great for the kid. The room was clean. The food in the hotel isn't very tasty. Not in the buffet or the restaurant.
Art — Google review
Nice rooms. Waterpark beside hotel is excellent. Hotel spa treatments were nice and good. Basic breakfeast. Terrible buffet dinner, price was 26e! Neptun grill was also good and fast food.
Max M — Google review
Visited spa - took sauna package with spa. Uselessly spent extra 15€. Saunas were full, small, impossible to use. Spa/water centre was full as well, with poor hygiene- floors were never mopped, dirty. Do not remove shoes! Be careful in the pools -tiles are extra slippery. For the price that we paid and gas money from LV it was not worth it.
Dace P — Google review
Convenient for families, beach front, fun waterpark, not very clean or fancy, too expensive for what it offers. I liked: 1. Big rooms, family rooms (2 connected rooms) are great for families. Big balconies. Clean, modern rooms. 2. Waterpark is very fun for kids and adults. My 4 yo loved the slides and the baby pool. 3. Location on the beach, near the bog. But a 25 min walk to the old town. 4. Big parking (but not free) 5. Dinner buffet was good quality, although not many options. But it included soft drinks and coffee. Would not get the half board option again, but it's good for families with kids, for convenience. Didn't like: 1. Cleanliness is lacking significantly. Didn't see any staff cleaning anything during our stay. It gets very dirty and messy by the evening. Aquapark is run down, old and rusty. Needs a renovation. 2. Aqua bar - just one person is serving, cashing, preparing the food. Big ques, not efficient. 3. All AquaPark feels understaffed. Nobody supervising slides. Nobody cleaning. It's a no man's world. 4. Hotel communal areas need a serious renovation, it feels like an old communist hotel. 5. Average breakfast. 6. For the huge price paid I expected a sea view room, but got rooms looking over pipes and ventilations. Very disappointing. Also very noisy at night. 7. Weird dinner hours 17-19. Inconvenient for my family. 8. Sauna world is a joke. It's very small and crowded, only has 5 saunas, a small pool and an onsen. Would not pay again, you can use saunas in locker area. Also cleaning lady came to close saunas at 21 00!! 9. Everything opens at 11, very inconvenient, especially on a rainy/cold day and closes at 21 30, although it says everywhere and on their site that closing hour is 22 00.

Cool beach to spend your summer holidays! It has a perfect infrastructure, nice sand, warm water. For us, it's the nicest beach in Europe.

Long straight beach with white sand. Easy on the feet. The water is shallow so very suitable for kids. Coffee shops and others along the shore. I traveled there in Autumn.

I love it 🇪🇪💙 so pure and crystal clear water, soft sand and large beach. There is also nice bar and very best big sweet drinks /smoothies and great music and children were dancing also friday night .

It's not quite summer, but -18°c in deep winter! There is a lot to see on Pärnu beach, the bay is frozen, people are walking and enjoying the sunset!
Mairis K — Google review
Long, clean beach. Was completely empty in September. The water is very shallow: after 20m, my ankle was not completely under water. Probably a good thing if you want a photo of you walking on the water.
Laurent B — Google review
Nice beach, the sand is clean. there are plenty of parking spots available around, There is also a restaurant along the beach, kids activities to play with, beach volleyball or soccer infrastructures are available.

Rannametsa-Tolkuse loodusõpperada

Hiking Trails
A very beautiful national park. Great wooden paths, beautiful nature, lots of water, and observation tower and it costs nothing. I definitely recommend stopping and walking the trails around the swamp. You can come with your pet, great tracks and walks for him.
Ingridele A — Google review
If you’re driving between Riga and Tallinn, make sure to stop at the Rannametsa-Tolkuse nature trail — it’s such a hidden gem! The walk is easy and super refreshing, taking you through beautiful pine forests and over a peaceful bog on wooden paths. The highlight is definitely the watchtower at the top of the dunes — the views are absolutely worth the short climb. Great place to stretch your legs, breathe in some fresh air, and enjoy the quiet of nature. Totally recommend it as a stop on your road trip!
Deniss S — Google review
If you're craving a short, charming walk to stretch your legs and immerse yourself in diverse ecosystems, the Rannametsa–Tolkuse Nature and Study Trail is a delightful option. Spanning approximately 2.2 km, this circular route takes about 1-1.5 hours at a relaxed pace. The trail is fully boardwalked, weaving through sandy coastal dunes crowned with light pine forest and descending into the lush Tolkuse bog. A variety of information boards (in Estonian and a QR code for English) mark key points of interest. The observation tower is a highlight, situated atop of one of the tallest dunes. The trail is not wheelchair friendly as it has lots of steps. It’s open year-round, free of charge. We couldn’t been happier we chose this route.
Nikita — Google review
Around 40 minutes to experience a wonderful natural area. There so many types of plants there in such a small region that it's totally surprising. Extremely interesting, free and well maintained!
SVC — Google review
Absolutely beautiful! An easy, quick way to get away from the bustle of the city. Of course you occasionally can hear the traffic from the road but that is natural considering how close it is to the road. We went for a swim also.
Jenni S — Google review
It is a very cool place! The trail is in good condition and the nature there is realy interesting. You can find many interesting and rare plants. The view from the viewing tower is absoloutly amaizing! From one side of the horizon there is swamp with forest aroud it, and from the other side is sea and you can see the Kihnu island.

It is more beautiful and interesting to visit this place by boat. A lot of natural objects to see. A great walking trail, with various environmental objects.

A beautiful 6 km trail that easily fills two hours. Calm forest paths, river views and a few small surprises along the way. Nothing too hard, just the kind of walk that lets your head breathe. A great place to slow down and enjoy the atmosphere.
Silver K — Google review
We came all the way from Tallinn to visit this place. On arrival you just have to buy a ticket and then it is up to you how far you would like to drive. This place has lovely touch of human but in the same time you can feel like deep in the forest - depends what you walk. The place has nice stairs so you do not have to climb the mud. Also awesome views to the river and really awesome tall trees. There are activities on the road, nice picnic place we found next to the river and interesting sculptures. So, if you need to gather energy but are afraid of walking to the wild forest- it is nice pick.

Kihnu

Mentioned on
4 lists
Island
Nature & Parks
Kihnu, a small island in the Baltic Sea, is a charming destination with picturesque beaches, scenic woodland trails, and cultural attractions. The island has preserved its unique character and traditions more than other nearby islands. Visitors can explore the museum and church located at the heart of the island, as well as several quaint villages and a historic lighthouse. Renting a bicycle to tour the island is highly recommended for an enjoyable day trip experience.
Visited Kihnu for the first time in July 2019. It's a lovely little island that has kept a lot of it's character and culture - more than Saaremaa, Hiiumaa or Muhu. *Sightseeing* The island is small enough to do all of the sightseeing in a single day - there's a museum and a church in the middle of the island, a couple of picturesque villages scattered around, a lighthouse, etc. *Other tourists* The island can get somewhat crowded on the weekends of July and August, but we were there Sunday - Wednesday and it was nice and quiet - started seeing bigger masses of tourists on our last day. *Getting there* I recommend booking tickets for the ferry in advance, to avoid anxiety of standing in the queue over the last 50 tickets they sell before each departure. I do not recommend taking your car across (unless you have kids <18m or people who can't bicycle). Best is to either take your own bicycle from the mainland or renting a bicycle from one of the many places on the island (10EUR/24h). Even for a novice, the island is easily bikeable (3kms across and 7kms lengthwise). Most roads are paved and traffic is slow and safe. For kids, you can rent bicycle seats and trailers for kids from 18 months or bicycles for kids from 6-7 years up. *Accommodation* We stayed in one of the many home accommodations and they're nice. The Rock City hotel is in a nice location on a sandy beach, but a quite worn. *Food* There are a few shops on the island, selling pretty much all the basics (you might not get the exact brand of cheese you're used to on the mainland, but you won't starve). There are a couple of restaurants - the Rock City restaurant was old-school 90s burger place, Aru Grill was decent pub-food. In addition to restaurants, there are numerous small stands selling homemade pastries, etc.

Lovely little museum in two floors. In October wednesday morning it seemed closed, but we tried the downstairs door, and there was a nice young man who guided us through the museum. Silver art was just amazing! Also other museums within short walking distance.

The museum’s exhibits are created by a single artist, Oļeg Auzers. These are intricate, large-scale works of art, each carrying a story with a deeper thought and meaning. A truly wonderful experience.

We extra drive there to see the museum. The museum should be open but the doors were locked. We called the number shown at the door and lady said it should be open but it wasn’t. We have been waiting for a long time and then left. With us were waiting the Finnish people and nobody couldn’t visit the museum. So be prepared that you can’t visit it.

Veczemju klintis

Outdoor Activities
Other Outdoor Activities
You go through a rough road with small and frequent ditches and after a while you park for 3.5 euros. The sand stones are beautiful, but it is depressing to see that people write and scratch into them.
SVC — Google review
Spent the weekend (Sunday) here with my family grilling. Due to it not being warm enough - we didn't have to pay for parking or table reservation which was pretty great. Super cool that almost every table has it's own grill & if you forget to take coal with you - you can take dry branches from the ground and make a fire. Overall a really good place to go to off-season because i have a feeling that during summer season it's super busy & probably won't be able to book a table for grill.
Valts K — Google review
The cliffs have their charm, although they’re not particularly spectacular, and unfortunately, in several places, they’re "decorated" with carvings left by tourists. In many areas, the beach and the water near the shore are covered in algae, which comes with an unpleasant smell and doesn’t exactly invite swimming. The access road to this place is an absolute disaster. There’s a paid parking area (€3.5) and a campground at the end of the road. I think there are nicer places to visit in the area that won’t make you risk destroying your car on the way.
Kasia C — Google review
Quite an impressive and colorful small coastline of sandstone cliffs and a rocky section of the seashore. It will take about 3 km to walk both along the coast in one direction and to reach the cliffs. There is a camping site, you can rent a table for a picnic. Parking is 3.5€ cash or card.
PJ L — Google review
Veczemju Klintis was a great experience. Visiting out of season made it wonderfully peaceful, just as we hoped. Highly recommended for nature and sea lovers!!
Kalyoner — Google review
Beautiful and unique place. Sand caves along shore, glacier boulders, small stones for kids to collect. Unfortunately parking is available only on camping site. But off season it's free as it seems.
Xenia F — Google review
Super beautiful. You must visit here if you come to Latvia.
Azadeh Z — Google review
Amazing views of the sand stone Canyon and small feeling of USA Canyons that i visited. Bad part is long (~4km) and rough gravel road.. so rough it shakes really strong.. i recommend SUV to reach it..Also very touristic place (even though it was empty at end of April, seems very busy in summer- hundreds of tables and fireplaces, huge parking, but only several wooden toilets). Sand stone/ sea shore is amazing, but not very protected from harming people coming to stay there.. stone is all carved, the clifs damaged by “pro climbers” Parking cost in spring- 3 Eur. Nice play to stay and camp/ cook some meals on camp site when it is empty 😎

Gauja National Park

National park
Nature & Parks
Hiking, boating, skiing & cycling in a picturesque setting with caves & historic structures.
A really fabulous place which is named after the Gauja River, which flows through the park and over a long time has created stunning sandstone cliffs and rock formations. Despite heavy rain the forests partially protected us and anyway it was a once in a life time walk and strangely the weather seemed to add to the enjoyment.
Ross D — Google review
One of the beautiful place in Latvia. You can walk, you can bike, you can hike, attractions etc, good food.
Andrejs Š — Google review
A very nice place to visit. It has a diverse list if places to visit: castles, valleys, rivers, caves, bridges, etc. I have visited all regions in Lithuania and I didn't expect such nice scenaries anywhere in Baltic countries. From the castle tower you can see only trees around for multiple kilometers. There is an interesting industrial village as well (Ligatne). I recommend to visit this national park.
Laurynas G — Google review
Calm nature. Deep forest. Some little cabins can be booked though. Cars pass through the park
Florian H — Google review
Nature surrounded by pine trees and with the nice River Gauja running through it. One takes the train from Riga Central Station to Cēsis, which itself is very charming with the old ruins there set in a lovely setting. There are also many buses per day, more than trains. Maybe train up and bus back, or vice versa. I did a quick 3hr walk from the town to the river, but tracks are very poorly marked. I ended up walking along an old overgrown logging or access trail, coming out accidentally onto the back of someone's property. The boundary to this property was, on one side, marked by a fence with evil looking signs saying , 'entry forbidden', in Latvian and Russian. The meaning was rather clear in any event. Was happy to leave that particular spot. I think if one takes a bit more time and finds the best trail, it's nice to do, but nothing special.

Good size museum, big outdoor space and sweet cafe. The staff is very friendly! Taking the long blue forest route was worth it; after the walk you arrive to a gorgeous beach ☀️ There also seemed to be a charging station for electric cars.

LOVE THIS PLACE. Favorite museum i have been. The suveniers are so cute, workers are very respectful.Amazing backstories about the Minhauzen.Wax figures are spot on. Will be visiting again🤍
Agate — Google review
Museum with interesting exhibition (please be attentive to details :-)) surrounded with nice activities for kids and grownups. You can find several trails around the museum as well. There are 2 options for trails through the magical forest - shorter and longer trail where longer reaches see what is absolutely a must if you like walking. Nice place to spend a day!
Dagnija S — Google review
Nice place to visit but anyway a little overrated. Price isn't worth it but to visit this place once is ok. Would be somewhat boring for really small kids. Big exhibition of lots of things, even those that are not about Münchhausen but still interesting. Lots of taxidermy animals ))) For kids would be interesting to play outside - there is for additional fee a big wooden ship made as children playground. Haven't been on wooden track - decided not to pay that crazy price just for a walk in the woods ))))
J B — Google review
Charming museum, beautiful grounds and playground with huge ship in the middle. My kids 5 and 9 had a blast there! We didn’t have time to go through the forest to the beach but wil come back!
Julija C — Google review
Beatiful small museum , well organised about Munchhausen , second in the world. Everything about Munchhausen on a first floor, wax museum of Latvian celebrities and historic figures on a second. Huge playground for kids to enjoy. Fee applies. 1 km long walk and walk to the Baltic beach with white sand. Beautiful view. Interesting place to visit.
Nadezda M — Google review
Kids playground is dangerous and run down, no maintenance done in along time, poorly made repairs possessing serious risks of injury. Forest trail has seen better days.
Emils S — Google review
Very cool! The taxidermy was really cool to look at, the staff was very nice and friendly - even had a nice chat. The wax people were a little creepy, but i loved it. Especially Hercogs Jēkabs, felt like he was lookin right back at me, looked into my soul. Overall, great experience.

Turaida Castle

Castle
Sights & Landmarks
42ha museum park about Latvian history & culture, with sculpture park, folk song events & a castle.
A visit to this castle is definitely worth it! Parking is easy and costs around 3€. Just give your license plate number at the ticket counter when buying your ticket. Entry for adults is €8, which is fair considering what you get to see. The castle itself is fascinating and full of history. The real highlight is the tower: The climb is a bit of a workout, but reaching the top is absolutely rewarding. From above, you’re treated to sweeping views of the Gauja River and the surrounding landscape. Around the castle, a small park area invites you to stroll and explore. As of September 2025, there are construction works on the grounds, but they don’t really take away from the overall experience.
Laura — Google review
A truly peaceful and picturesque place. The castle itself is modest, but the surrounding gardens are stunning — beautifully designed with thoughtful planting and a perfect harmony of colors and textures. Walking here feels like stepping into a living painting, a real moment of serenity. Huge compliments to whoever created and maintains this landscape!

We visited in November. Turaida castle is really worth visiting. When you arrive to a parking lot, there are plenty of spots to park. You can pay for it in the museum which is like a minute away and you don't have to go back to put it in your car, just take it with yourself, it costs 2€. The ticket for the castle was just 6€ which is honestly not much, we saw many castles in different countries which where not that worth as this one and were more expensive. Except of the castle you can visit many other places and building here, like the church, the souvenir shop or the jewelry shop which offers plenty of beautiful hand made jewelries. Turaida castle itself is right now in reconstruction but was really beautiful. You can go inside every door which you can find, meaning that you can see plenty of expositions with stuff found during excavations, see some photographies, old armors, go up in the tower to see the whole castle and it's surroundings. The whole place is quite wast so you can spend there hours walking around, enjoying the atmosphere.
Silvia B — Google review
Beautiful castle with stunning views from the tower. Plenty areas to explore, many old building with a person in each building to explain more details, great information too. There are parks and pathways to explore. Easy access to toilets. And we were luck as there was live music concert on the stage next to castle.
Indy R — Google review
Our group of 11 travelers from 5 countries journeyed to the castle complex Today. The guided tour from the entrance through the church as the guide told the story of Rosa de Turaida fave full delta to the castle. The small museum shows the reconstruction of the castle that allows visitors to climb 139 steps to the top for a va race point of the complex and the greenery

One of the most beautiful castle in Europe. If you want to see nice castle with beautiful park, i recommended Turaida. Look at my photos of environs. Very nice :)
Vladimir Z — Google review
Nice castle to visit plenty of info and amazing view. The exhibition carries on in all the other buildings around the park (church, little houses…) - make sure to save enough time to visit the whole park and all these different exhibitions, it’s a lot to take in but it’s worth it.
Mona R — Google review
In case you're planning to visit Turaidas Castle for the first time DO NOT follow your google maps. Instead take the parking spot on the 'mountain' (if you're driving a car) and cross the street to get tickets in the Museum entrance. You can pay by parking at the Museum register (same place where you can get tickets). Also the cost for tickets change twice a year — once in Autumn and once in a Spring.

Gutman's Cave

Nature & Parks
Caverns & Caves
Compact cave in sandstone rock displaying inscriptions dating from the 17th century.
Really interesting cave, there are lots of carvings on the walls that date back to 1800’s. There is also another smaller cave if you keep walking. The area around is also nice and a good place for lunch or a walk. Free and no ticket needed.
Rachel T — Google review
Large, old and sad. Gutman Cave is the largest cave in the Baltic States, not quite in depth (18.8 metres), but in entrance (12 metres wide and 10 metres high). The cave was formed at the end of the last ice age, when meltwater eroded its way through the sandstone some 10,000 years ago. Gutman Cave is one of Latvia's oldest tourist attractions, with inscriptions dating back to the 17th century. It is still a popular tourist destination, so it can get busy at times. It is also the location of the sad end of the Rose of Turaida. For hikers, the cave (and the entire area) is a great destination or stopover.
Koen — Google review
We visited Gutman’s Cave in the evening, and it turned out to be a great decision. There were no other tourists around, which made the experience feel calm and almost magical. We had read that the place can get very crowded during the day, so going later allowed us to enjoy it at our own pace without the usual hustle. The cave itself is interesting to see — not particularly large, but it's steeped in history and legend, which adds a special charm. The walls are covered in old inscriptions and carvings, some of which date back centuries. It’s worth spending a little time reading about the stories and myths associated with the cave before you visit. The area around the cave is part of a beautiful park with many well-marked walking trails. It's a great place for a peaceful walk in nature, and there's plenty to explore. The surrounding forest and riverside paths make it ideal for a longer hike or just a relaxed stroll. Parking near the cave (200 meter) costs €2.50, but when we went, the office was closed and the barriers were open, so we didn't have to pay. This might not always be the case. All in all, Gutman’s Cave is definitely worth a visit, especially in the evening if you want to avoid the crowds.
Nikita — Google review
Took the cable car and walked down. Wish we'd taken full day to walk and discover all the wood area before reaching the cave. It was a really sad story about the cave but what a magnificent place

It who was an interesting place, it's only a small cave with a lot of inscriptions, Dennis was a walk around the park it was not worth the one hour drive.
Joseph T — Google review
We hiked to the largest cave in Latvia to enjoy the natural formation. Sadly, several people have chosen to carve their initials or names in the stone to detract from the natural beauty. These engravings become part of the cave’s history now Worth the stop on a hike.

Cool cave and very accessible from road without any ascent or climbing. I walked here from train station, takes about 20-25 minutes with the highest staircase I've ever seen. Not far from the castle.

The Castle of the Livonian Order in Sigulda is a 13th-century castle with restored walls, offering gate and tower climbs as well as guided tours. Built by Bishop Albert of Riga, it suffered heavy damage during the 16th-century Livonian War. The stone ruins have been fitted with stairs and wooden walkways, providing a lookout point with stunning views of the surrounding river valley.
Loved wandering around the ruins and getting incredible views from the tower. Super cheap entry. Not crowded at all. Placards have explanations in English too.

A great medieval castle. We bought a family ticket for only 5€ and it was definitely worth it! The castle is a nice showcase of medieval gothic architecture. You can access two towers and one of the walls, from which there is a nice view of the town and surrounding nature. Around the castles you can find information checkpoints, which offer insight into the castles history from its founding by the Livonian Brothers of the Sword in 1207 to the most recent renovation. There is a lot of places where you can just sit and soak up the atmosphere. Staff is friendly.

This place is a must visit when in Latvia/ Riga! Easy to visit with a 1hr train ride. The walk from the train station is beautiful and much scenery to see along the way. The castles themselves are legit. Kid and family friendly. Feels as if you traveled back in time 🙏🏽

We had a day trip and were presently surprised at how near the castles were to the train station, 10 minutes walk. You get value for money here as there are 2 castles on the same site ,the old and the new. They have some lovely independent shops on site selling local ,and handmade products, do try the Hot Raw Cacao .

North of Sigulda, on a small rocky plateau that rises some 70 metres above the Gauja River valley, stands the impressive ruins of the Livonian Order Castle. The castle was built in 1207 by the Livonian Brothers of the Sword, the knightly order that was founded to bring about the conversion of the Latvians, Livonians and Estonians (by means of a crusade). These Brothers of the Sword were not the most obedient knights, as they regularly clashed with Bishop Albert of Riga (whose castle -Turaida Castle- can be seen on the other side of the Gauja River). The order was dissolved by the Pope in 1237, after only 35 years, and was incorporated into the Teutonic Order in the form of a separate branch, the Livonian Order. Since 1432 Sigulda Castle was the residence of the Land Marshal of the Livonian Order, the second highest officer of the order. In the 16th, 17th and early 18th centuries, war and destruction alternate with peace and reconstruction, until the castle is finally no longer restored and from the early 19th century it is cherished as a romantic ruin (albeit with some reinforcements and adjustments). The 20th and 21st centuries are mainly characterized by historical and archaeological research, and renovations to protect the ruin from decay. The Sigulda Medieval Castle is therefore an interesting and beautiful ruin that you should definitely visit!
Koen — Google review
Worthy a stop if you are in the neighborhood, otherwise not worthy the trip. The new castle is a modern residence, the old one partially scenic ruins used (as it was the case today) for event and cocnerts

We were in the area so stopped by. Easy to get tickets, not much of a line. It was a relaxing ride over the Gauja River. There isn't a lot to do in the other side, but we still enjoyed the peaceful setting. Had to wait a bit for the cable car to return.

A magnificent "flight"! If you want to walk from Sigulda to Turaida Castle, for example, you can shorten this walk by taking the cable car over the Gauja River. Of course, also for people who want to enjoy the fantastic view of the river valley! In seven and a half minutes you float to the other side of the valley with unobstructed, magnificent views along the way!

Expensive for the short length of return ride. Good view but not extraordinary. Don't worth it if it's crowded, Lucky we were only 4 of us in the cable car. The fake bear looks terrible and needs updating please

The Sigulda bobsleigh, luge and skeleton track is a thrilling attraction in Latvia. This 1.2 km track features 16 turns and is used by Olympians for training. Visitors can experience the excitement of descending the track on a regular bobsleigh during winter or on a wheeled bobsleigh in summer. The adrenaline rush from reaching speeds of up to 65mph/105kmh makes it an unforgettable experience for adventure seekers.
Do the bobsleigh if you can, it's an unforgettable experience unlike anything I've ever tried. Very shaky, very fast! You can pay 3 euros to just enter and go to the top. There's a viewpoint and then you can walk part of the track down to where the bobsleigh starts. The bob ride costs about 30 euros.
Hanne H — Google review
On weekends you can go in a soft bobsled or soft skeleton ride down the track. Soft bobsled ride you go about 80km/hr. Both soft skeleton and soft bobsled are 30 euros per ride. It’s a quick ride but very fun!

The Sigulda Bobsleigh and Luge Track is located in Sigulda, Latvia. It was built in 1986 and used as a training ground for Bobsleigh, Luge athletes. It's 1200 meters in length with 16 curves. From the top one can have panoramic view of the mountains. Visited it as a guided tour and walked down the track. Very interesting place to visit.
Soudamini M — Google review
€30 for a ride but wow the adrenaline is amazing, to do the actual Olympic track on a soft bob and soft skeleton was SUPERB and so worth it, obviously it was over pretty quick but that is totally to be expected.
Sarah L — Google review
I got to have a go on the summer bob and it was so much fun! Bumpy ride for sure but exhilarating! Very helpful staff which I really appreciated. Great views from the top too. I saw someone else mention that it would be great to have a small exhibition about the track/sports. I totally agree - I would have loved to learn something about it while I was there!
Laura W — Google review
Not really a huge amount to see but definitely interesting to see
Neil R — Google review
The ride itself is quite expensive and shortnand the kids said that not worth the money. But we go to to see some great sights as we were allowed to walk up to the tower along a bobsleigh track that wasn't used during the summer. The track was really impressive from the inside and views impressive bothered from the track and the tower. Just a little suggestion - try to put together a small exhibition. Even one or two rooms would cover it to give some general info about the place and the sport itself. Anything is better than just offering the ride and views only.
Janne A — Google review
Spectacular position of the bobsleigh run, and interesting to do a short walk around it, on a 'tour bus' visit. I have only given 2 stars because to do an actual ride on the bobsleigh (which runs on 'wheels' in the summer) is very expensive, at 30 euros per person for a 60-90 seconds ride... I asked if we would get 3 or even 2 rides for that money, and was told no. So I don't think it's worth making a special trip out from Riga to do a ride.

Alberta Street is one of Riga’s most beautiful and elegant streets, a true open-air museum of Art Nouveau architecture. Built mostly between 1901 and 1908, the buildings here were designed by some of Latvia’s most talented architects, including Mikhail Eisenstein, father of the famous film director Sergei Eisenstein. What makes these façades so captivating is the incredible attention to detail—flowing lines, ornate balconies, sculpted faces, floral patterns, and mythological figures all blending into a harmonious whole. This style, popular at the turn of the 20th century, reflected both the prosperity of Riga’s merchant class and the artistic freedom of the time. Walking down Alberta Street feels like stepping into a different era, when beauty and craftsmanship were just as important as function. The colors, textures, and whimsical details invite you to stop, look up, and admire every corner. ⭐ Tip: Visit in the morning for the best light for photography, and don’t forget to explore the nearby Art Nouveau Museum for more insight into this fascinating style.

The Freedom Monument, a 42-meter statue located in the city center of Riga's Old Town on Freedom Boulevard, is a striking landmark that pays tribute to Latvians who fought for independence between 1918 and 1920. Unveiled in 1935, this beautiful monument features a granite base with sculptures and bas-relief, a 19-meter travertine column, and a copper figure of Liberty holding aloft three gilded stars.
The Freedom Monument of Riga is located at the centre of old town of Riga. It was built between 1931 to 1935 to commemorate the soldiers killed during the Latvian war of independence. The monument is 42.7 meters in height, made up of granite and copper. The three stars at the top represent the historical unity of the Latvian nation. The location of the monument is walking distance from most part of Riga. The monument is beautiful and the area surrounding of the monument is equally beatiful with flowers and greeneries. Nice place for taking a walk or relaxation.

Freedom Monument – Riga We visited the Freedom Monument last Sunday on a cold, drizzling day, which somehow made the atmosphere even more powerful. Standing tall in the heart of Riga, the monument is a striking symbol of Latvia’s independence and resilience. Built in 1935, it honours those who gave their lives during the Latvian War of Independence, and remarkably, it survived both Soviet and Nazi occupations as a quiet but steadfast reminder of national pride. Even in the grey weather, the monument and the surrounding area felt peaceful and dignified. The eternal flame and the changing of the guards add a special sense of respect and history. Definitely worth stopping by—whether for the history, the symbolism, or just to take in one of Riga’s most meaningful landmarks.

A Powerful Symbol of Latvia’s Spirit The Freedom Monument is one of the most important and iconic landmarks in Riga. Standing tall and proud in the heart of the city, it’s a powerful tribute to Latvia’s independence and resilience. The sculpture is striking, and the surrounding area — especially with the canal and Bastejkalna Park nearby — makes it a beautiful spot to visit, reflect, and take photos. I’ve passed by many times but haven’t yet had the chance to attend one of the ceremonial guard changes or national events here — hoping to catch one in the future. Even without stepping closer, the atmosphere around the monument feels respectful and meaningful. It’s a must-visit for anyone wanting to understand Latvia’s history and national pride.

It's beautifully located in the city center and perfect for photos, especially at sunrise or sunset. Changing of the guard happens hourly—don’t miss it! Tip: Combine your visit with a walk through Bastejkalna Park or stop by the nearby Old Town. Benches nearby offer a great rest spot. Ideal for history lovers and first-time visitors!

Spectacular monument in the heart of Riga. The Riga sign and Laima clock is also located here. Large space to wander around.

Visiting the Freedom Monument in Rīga was a truly moving experience. Standing tall in the heart of the city, it’s more than just a striking piece of architecture—it radiates the spirit of Latvia’s independence and resilience. Nestled in the heart of Old Town, Riga Cathedral stands as a magnificent testament to centuries of architectural evolution. This medieval Lutheran church, constructed in the 13th century, showcases an impressive blend of Romanesque, early Gothic, and Baroque styles. As the largest medieval church in the Baltic States, it serves not only as a place of worship but also as a vibrant concert venue featuring its remarkable 19th-century pipe organ.
Beautiful and historic cathedral in the heart of Riga’s Old Town. The mix of architectural styles is really impressive, and the atmosphere inside is peaceful and inspiring. I especially recommend hearing the famous pipe organ if you get the chance—it's unforgettable. A must-visit when you're in Riga!

The Riga Cathedral is one of the oldest religious buildings in Latvia and the Baltic region. It was founded in 1211. The Cathedral has been rebuilt and enlarged several times over the centuries, having the architectural elements of Romanesque, Gothic, Baroque etc. The Cathedral has one of of the world's most valuable historic organs from 19th century. There is an entrance fee to visit the Cathedral, but it's worth every penny. It's truly majestic and very beautiful inside. Don't miss the cloister and courtyard area that contain a collection of artifacts and canons too. There is an option to attend organ concerts, explore the organ balcony, and take tower tours, though we didn't do any of these. Highly recommend a visit to this

Riga Cathedral is the largest cathedral in the Baltic region, located in the old town of Riga. Unfortunately, there is a fee to enter, but if you are not interested in church architecture, it may be more interesting to visit other places such as museums. Also, on some important days in Latvia, free concerts are held in the cathedral.
Hüseyn Q — Google review
Visited for the piccolo concerto, I hesitated as it was not cheap for only 20min… it was worth every penny !!!! Instantly got goosebumps when the organist started hitting the keys and pedals. Such a unique experience in a beautiful cathedral.
Mona R — Google review
You can't miss it! Everything about Riga Cathedral is big, bigger or biggest. It is the largest church in the Baltic States, the church is located on the largest square in the city and the organ was once the largest instrument in the world. The first church was built in 1211 by Bishop Albert van Buxhoeveden, the Romanesque altar is a reminder of this. At the end of the 14th/beginning of the 15th century the church was enlarged and given a Gothic appearance. The new, partly wooden tower that was completed in 1595 was one of the highest in the world at 140 meters. Because the tower had fallen into disrepair over the centuries (wooden structures were rotten), the Riga city council decided in 1775 to replace it with a smaller, "only" 90 meters high, Baroque copy. Despite all the destruction caused by fires and the Reformation, the interior has plenty of interesting things to offer: medieval tombstones, the pulpit from 1641, and the 6718-pipe organ. Riga Cathedral: you can't miss it, you shouldn't miss it.
Koen — Google review
Went for the organ concert at 12:00. It's a bit tricky to chose where to sit. I recommend coming around 15-20 minutes early to be zhere before tourist groups. Sit on the front benches facing the side of the cathedral. that way you can see the screen projectors on the collums at the front (they have a camera showing the organ player) and thr organ pipes in the back.

Lutheran church
Sights & Landmarks
St. Peter's Church is a medieval church with a remarkable 123-meter-high steeple, dating back to the 15th century. The main attraction here is the Clock Tower, offering a breathtaking panoramic view of Riga's cityscape and the charming red roofs of the Old Town. Despite its troubled history and multiple renovations, it stands tall as an iconic landmark in Riga. Visitors can enjoy various tours, including a popular walking tour that showcases the city's rich history and culture.
I would recommend this place for a good viewing point of the city. The church inside is nothing special, but the views from the point are worth the ticket price. As others have mentioned, there may be a queue for the lifts, both to go up and come down since there is only one lift in operation and takes only around 10 people each time. The views are nice when the weather is good, but the platform at the top is not too big, and as it's all outdoors, it can be a bit windy.
Ai — Google review
Beautiful church right in the heart of Riga’s Old Town. St. Peter’s Church is an impressively restored building, with restoration work still ongoing. A highlight is the elevator ride up the tower – the elevator may feel a little shaky, but it takes you safely to the top. From there you get a fantastic view over Riga and the Old Town. Definitely a worthwhile stop on a city walk.
Yo L — Google review
Really beautiful church, well worth stopping by even if not religious. The building is stunning & the architecture is immense. You can pay extra to go up in the tower, which is an incredible experience. You get panoramic views of the whole city, including the river. It's a bit scary at first as the lift opens directly out onto the tower, but definitely power through!

St. Peter’s Church in Tallinn is one of those places where history, architecture, and atmosphere all come together beautifully ⛪✨. The church itself has a calm, almost timeless feel to it—like it’s been quietly watching the city change for centuries. The high ceilings and intricate details make you feel both small and amazed, the kind of place where you whisper automatically even if no one tells you to. What I loved most was how it blends solemnity with charm. It’s not just about bricks and stained glass; it’s about stories, traditions, and that sense of being part of something much larger than yourself. And of course, like every good historic church in Europe, it also gives you that gentle reminder that your photography skills will never do it justice. 📸😂 Whether you’re into history, architecture, or just need a quiet escape from the bustle of Tallinn, St. Peter’s Church is worth stepping inside. It’s a place that makes you pause, reflect, and maybe even wish your own ceiling at home was a little more “cathedral-like.”

St. Peter’s Church in the heart of Riga’s Old Town offers an unforgettable experience, the soaring 13th-century tower provides panoramic views over the red-rooftops, the Daugava River and the modern city skyline. Inside, the blend of Gothic and Baroque architecture is impressive, and the history that echoes in the walls makes it more than just a photo-stop. A must-see when in Riga.

An absolute must-visit in Riga! ⛪✨ The towering architecture of St. Peter’s Church is breathtaking up close — truly one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. The interiors are peaceful and filled with history, and for a small fee you can take the elevator up to the observation deck 🌆⬆️ which surprised me with stunning panoramic views of the whole city — rooftops, river, bridges, everything! 😍 The atmosphere around the church is vibrant, full of cafés and street life, making it the perfect stop during a walk through Old Town 🚶‍♂️💛. Definitely worth the visit if you want to experience Riga from its most beautiful angle! 📸✨

9EUR to visit the church and do up to the tower via 3 flights of stairs and an elevator. As soon as you step out of the elevator you are on the viewing platform which can be very windy but views are beautiful especially with nice weather. Church itself is nice and peaceful.

Plac Ratuszowy, also known as Town Hall Square, is a historic cobbled market square dating back to the 13th century. Despite being destroyed in World War II, it has been reconstructed with beautiful Hanseatic architecture and monuments. Adjacent to the square stands the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia, offering a haunting glimpse into Latvia's traumatic 20th-century history under Soviet and Nazi occupation. The heart of Riga and a must-see stop. Home of the amazing House of the Black Heads and also outdoor cafes to enjoy the view and people watching. Seek out a small sculpture that commemorates the world's first decorated Christmas tree in 1510. Men from the House of the Black Heads decorated one with roses, danced around it, then set it on fire!

The House of the Black Heads, a Gothic-style property constructed in 1334, showcases medieval cellars and a remarkable presidential silver collection. Despite being bombed during World War II, the building's architectural splendor was restored in the 1990s. Its Dutch Renaissance-inspired appearance features vibrant colors and exquisite ornamentation. The adjacent municipal square was built concurrently with the palace. Visitors can admire its stunning facade and explore museum exhibits and a re-created grand conference hall inside.
An absolute must-see in Riga! The House of the Blackheads is one of the most beautiful buildings in the Old Town — its stunning facade and detailed sculptures are breathtaking. The interior is equally impressive, with elegant halls, historical artifacts, and a fascinating medieval cellar that’s the only original part of the building. It’s hard to believe this place was destroyed in WWII and rebuilt in the 1990s — the reconstruction is so detailed, it feels like stepping back in time. Staff were friendly, and the exhibits are well organized and available in several languages. Perfect for history lovers, architecture fans, or anyone exploring Riga. Highly recommended — give yourself at least an hour to fully enjoy it!

Nice to see. Impressive reconstructed fassade. Nice exhibition inside but not necessary to pay entrance and to see the view rooms. For longer stay or if you are really interested. Otherwise just enjoy it from outside

The House of the Black Heads is one of the most iconic landmarks in Riga’s Old Town. Originally built in the 14th century as a guild for unmarried merchants, shipowners, and foreigners, it has always been a center of culture and celebration. The building you see today is a faithful reconstruction, as the original was destroyed during World War II. With its striking Gothic façade decorated with Renaissance details, it is a masterpiece that reflects Riga’s rich history and vibrant spirit. Inside, you’ll find beautifully restored halls, exhibitions about the city’s past, and a glimpse into the life of the Brotherhood of Black Heads. I warmly recommend adding the House of the Black Heads to your itinerary when exploring Riga. It’s not only a chance to admire one of the city’s most stunning architectural gems but also to step into a place where history, art, and culture truly come alive.

Wonderful museum and reconstructed building. The original building was completed destroyed in the Second World War, and the present building was opened in 1999 but it's a beautiful replica as close to the original as possible and an iconic building of Latvia. The outside is spectacular and the indoor tour starts with a tour of the original foundations in the basement and historical information. The upper floors are grand hallways and stately rooms which are impressive. One of our favourite buildings in Riga.
David P — Google review
Very nice museum. I liked the way the underground exhibition was organized, with stories abot what was happening in Riga, Latvia, Europe and the world at a particular time in history. The audio guide provides good information. The other floors are also interesting and beautiful. The silver colection is amazing. Well worth the visit.

🏰✨ An absolute gem in the heart of Old Riga! The House of the Blackheads is one of the most stunning buildings I’ve ever seen — beautifully restored, full of history, and glowing with character. The exterior alone is jaw-dropping 😍 with its intricate details, bright colors, and medieval charm. And once you step inside, it gets even better — gorgeous halls, historic artifacts, and a museum that brings Riga’s merchant past to life 📜⚔️🕯️. The ambiance is magical both day and night — it’s also one of the most photogenic spots in the entire city 📸✨. If you’re in Riga, this place is an absolute must-visit. 💯 Highly recommended for history lovers, architecture fans, and anyone who wants to experience the soul of Riga ❤️🇱🇻

A stunning gem in Old Riga with a captivating façade that reflects centuries of history. Originally built in 1334 for merchant gatherings and later home to the Brotherhood of Blackheads, this landmark features ornate Renaissance-Mannerist ornamentation added in the 1600s and late‑19th‑century sculptures by August Volz. It was destroyed in WWII and lovingly reconstructed from 1996–1999 with public and city funding. Today it houses a museum and elegant ballrooms, offers multi‑language audio guides, and displays a medieval cellar dating back to the 14th century. Perfect for history lovers and architecture fans!

The Museum of the Occupation of Latvia is a historical institution dedicated to educating visitors about the period when Latvia was occupied by the USSR and Nazi Germany. With over 60,000 exhibits and an extensive audiovisual archive featuring more than 2,300 video testimonials, the museum provides a comprehensive overview of Latvia's history during this tumultuous time. It aims to remember and commemorate those who suffered unjustly during the occupations, including deportees, refugees, and those who were convicted or murdered.
Utterly incredible storytelling. Really enjoyed the unfiltered material, honest and brutal in instances. Highly recommend. If you want a full experience to read everything, take 1.5 to 2 hrs, but obvs can be done in less.

Good exhibition if you want to learn about the history of latvia during the 2nd world war and the period after until the 1990s. Would recommend the audio guide and if you are interested in reading more about the exhibits to plan in around two hours.

Be sure to allow time in your visit to Riga to tour this museum. Ideally visit when you can take the guided tour with a staff member. we did and it added so much more context to the visit. I would allow two hours if possible. Great bathrooms and lockers to make your visit even easier. no café but nearby there are many places to grab a cup of coffee afterwards and process what you’ve learned.

Dramatic museum about Latvia's traumatic recent history under the Soviet and Nazi occupations during the second world war and up to 1991. Lots to read and there are some dramatic films and exhibits. Makes you want to celebrate Latvia's independence with them by the end and wave a Latvian flag! There are lockers for bags but no cafe (there are restaurants nearby).

A super interesting collection detailing the Soviet Occupation of Latvia and the struggle of the people to reestablish their sovereign state. We did an English tour that was pretty rushed. We went back through the entire museum. It is laid out in chronological order and there is a "path" to follow. There's a cute teddy bear character that might keep kids interested with a few interactive displays. There are adult interactives also. The museum tells the tale of brave resistance fighters and you leave with a sense of the great national pride that Latvians have today, as they should !

An incredibly powerful museum with a very important story to tell. A good mix of modern interactive displays and more traditional museology exhibits that will help you understand the struggle of Latvia against several neighbours and the horrible impact of recent history, yet, their ability to persevere. A very enlightening experience for anyone.
