What a surprise. This area was absolutely stunning. The Stone building is what attracted me but exploring and hiking around was incredible. Definitely worth a trip. Even if you’re not there while the buildings are open. It is still fun to walk around. There is still a lot to see.

The combination of historical genius loci and natural beauty is truly unique. We were lucky to stumble upon a local festival and bought a baguette with regional cheese—making it a culinary experience as well. Freshly baked bread with cheese is a timeless classic… thank you!

Very interesting place. We came here to see the Corps des Gards building but found there was much more to see here. There is a dedicated parking area for motorhomes next to the car park and toilets. There is a path of about 500m to walk which is just about suitable for a wheelchair user.
John L — Google review
Beautiful place to visit with enough information to understand the area. Craft shops selling handmade gifts.

A very beautiful and impressive place to visit.

It was fantastic! I'm really in love with the Celtic architecture. The village is in a very good shape and you can visit every house. It is a really tourist hotspot. The best is the cost and it's boulder options. The kids really loved it to carefully climb the rocks. Fir those who are brave enough can go swimming, but it really depends on the weather and the water temperature. A must see!

Thats one of the best places I visited during this journey! I felt a bit like beeing in Asterix village in Gallia. So nice reconstructered old huts with all the natural massive rocks. And the handcraft shop and Bistrorestaurant. Visit is for free as parking. Inside of some huts the hustory of that village is nicly explained also a lot to discover for children. All in three languages french, english and german. Can only highly recommand this seaside unique attraction!🛖

Pointe du Van is a stunning rocky promontory located between Pointe du Raz and Cap Sizun. The area offers striking cliffs, windswept moors, and trails for hiking with breathtaking views of the ocean. It's an unspoiled and beautiful coastal stretch where visitors can enjoy walking along the beach or exploring the GR34 trail with their dogs. Unlike the crowded Pointe du Raz, Pointe du Van provides free parking and a more peaceful atmosphere.
Pointe du Van is a very special promontory in Western Brittany that extends into the Western Atlantic Coast..we reached this area from Audierne on highway D43, then D7..there are plenty of free parking spaces from which trails venture out into the granite cliffs and abundant heather..this site is quiet and not overcrowded..the local Breton name is Beg ar Vann..we had wind and rain so be prepared..

Téléphérique De Brest

Mentioned on

Transportation
Tramways
Téléphérique De Brest is the first urban cable car in France, offering a unique way to cross the Penfeld River and enjoy stunning 360-degree views of the picturesque seaside port. It's an affordable activity as it's part of the public transport system, allowing riders to use a regular ticket for one hour on buses, trams, and the cable car. The experience provides access to a renovated site with delightful dining options like Fabrik.
We stumbled upon the cable car and it had a very short line. Staff was present to help make the self service ticketing very quick and easy. Views from the ride over the river we're beautiful and the large former ship repair sure that's now a local museum, arts, activities, food & bar area was perfect as a light rain passed thru the area for about an hour.
Pat B — Google review
Careful! This is a normal transport means for the locals. It is not a tourist attraction. Therefore you can expect it to be smelly and dirty but a very cheap way of getting a complete view of the naval base down below. You go to one of the points and buy your tickets there. Take a two way ticket and you can enjoy the view.
Dr. P — Google review
It's a nice ride, but only if you stand next to the window. Make sure you enter first, otherwise you are stuck in the middle of sweaty people and can't see anything. The ticket is easy to buy at the machine on the departure platform. 2,2 per person, kids till 6 for free. On the other side of the river you will arrive right to the Atelier Capucins, a former factory building. The area is enormous and gorgeous, but still has to find it's purpose, I think.
Daria S — Google review
You should experience this. Yes, it is a short trip but it supplies you a good view
T K — Google review
Must see Brest's cable car, it is a short a ride but very nice to try.
Marmeena B — Google review
Fun little find to take our boy on, it isn't manned so can get very crowded on the cable car. But a lityle fun venture
Bekki H — Google review
I recommend to visit. Great view of the bridge and bay. Low cost (2.2 eur in two directions). Excellent view of the historical part of the city from a height.
Kirill G — Google review
4.50€ for a day ticket to ride the tram, and buses all over Brest to explore. Top it off with a (included in the day ticket) ride in the "Ski Lift" for a sky line view and the realisation that the return lift is heading straight for you - you have a few seconds to work out how they will pass each other before you descend!

Museums
Located within the historic Brest Castle, Musée National de la Marine offers a captivating journey through 17 centuries of maritime history, showcasing the strong connection between Brest and its naval heritage. The museum's impressive collection features model ships and naval installations dating back to 1748, providing insight into the city's shipbuilding traditions and ocean-going fleets. With breathtaking views of the bay and old city from the castle towers, a visit to this museum promises an enriching experience steeped in naval history.
Loved the museum. Lots of history from more than 600 years ago. I was expecting a little bit more maritime stuff. It is a beautiful castle with lots of interest things to see.
Luis D — Google review
Part of the castle which you have to enter see review of castle. The rowing museum at Henley has more exhibits. Most of what you read you could get from a book. Worth visiting for the views of the town.
Ray D — Google review
Already in the 3rd century, some fortifications, a castellum, were constructed at this site. Later, this huge castle was built and expanded through the years. Occupied by the English during the Hundred Years War, sold by the English, it became an important Naval base and part still is and off limits to visitors. There is a well signed tour you follow through the castle. There are many galleries inside with the interesting history of the place. At the end of that tour, there are some beautiful large wooden sculptures
Seimen B — Google review
Lovely place to get history a lesson on the area of Brest. The Chateau covers a huge area and housed inside is the Marine Museum. Naval history at its best! Models of ships used throughout France's conquests and exploration expeditions are on display. Plenty to keep the kids engaged. The views of the bay are fabulous as well.
John C — Google review
Excellent maritime museum with loads of displays, models, av displays and audio guide in multiple languages. Just to note that only the entrance and first floor are fully accessible. And the tour goes between inside and outdoors...just in case you're visiting on a rainy day. Allow at least two hours for a visit to cover the full exhibition and not miss out on any time periods of the maritime story. We visited as a family with a 6 and 9 year old and they both really enjoyed it as well, especially since they got their own audio guides and could seek out the next number on the tour. The audio guide is an extra €2pp but worth it.
Lisa G — Google review
The Musée National de la Marine in Brest is another significant institution dedicated to France's maritime history. Located in the historic Château de Brest, this museum showcases the rich naval heritage of France through an impressive collection of artifacts, models, and artworks. Visitors can explore exhibitions that cover various aspects of naval history, including shipbuilding, naval battles, and exploration. The museum features detailed ship models, paintings, and various maritime instruments that illustrate the evolution of the French navy. One of the highlights is the stunning views of the harbor from the castle, adding to the overall experience. The museum often hosts temporary exhibitions, workshops, and educational programs, making it a dynamic place to learn about maritime culture. If you're in Brest, it’s a must-visit for anyone interested in naval history and the sea!
ChefLaurent D — Google review
Oldest Maritime museum in Europe if not the world. Housed within a castle. Only 7euros for adults - excellent value. Good history of the castle and the dock areas in addition to the navy and the different types of ships. Get the audio guide which is free and comes in different languages.

Oceanopolis is a massive aquarium featuring three distinct zones representing polar, tropical, and temperate marine environments. It offers an opportunity for visitors to discover the wonders of the world's oceans with over a thousand species of marine animals on display. The aquarium boasts one of Europe's largest penguin pools and provides an immersive experience for all ages.
Océanopolis in Brest is the most beautiful aquarium I’ve visited! The tropical and polar pavilions are stunning and full of fascinating marine life. A fun, immersive, and educational experience. I loved it and highly recommend it to anyone interested in the ocean world!
Malak C — Google review
It is ok, but there are far better aquariums around. Admittedly, the place is currently undergoing a major renovation, so a large part of it is closed. But what we did see was mostly digital or interactive displays plus some tanks of mostly small creatures such as shrimps and seahorses. The only big animals visible were a few very bored seals in a tiny tank, swimming round repetitively. There were quite a few English translations and the staff were friendly. We stayed about an hour in total. Definitely don't travel specifically to visit, but it passes the time if you are in the area and the weather is bad. Hopefully, it will be improved when the big renovations are unveiled.
Livia F — Google review
Overall loved the aquarium, just bad timing with the renovations so didn't get to see the sharks and the penguins but really nice and educational. The restaurant has really good food.
Phoebe — Google review
Great place to visit with kids with so many learning games and activities to educate on ocean and marine life and bio diversity and how to protect it. Buying tickets in advance is recommended to avoid waiting in queue especially on weekends and public to school holidays.
Issam P — Google review
OMG worst aquarium ever ! Huge property seems abandoned. Rusted property. This place is definitely going out of business. Seals were nice. Two or three other fish tanks good. No otters in otter tank. Not one. All food places closed. Nobody here. On a Sunday. There’s no way this survives as a business. Penguins coming in October ! This whole place likely to be torn down in two years. Sad. The young women at the front were cute and funny though !
Robert — Google review
At the time we visited this place, most of the attractions were closed for renovation. It was expensive and we just saw one part of the aquarium. A bit underwhelming. I enjoyed the little thetre experience, though, it could be interesting for children especially.
Subas A — Google review
My slightly low rating is due to a number of the major attractions being closed, which we knew about before our visit but it's definitely something to consider before making your way out. To be fair to the venue the ticket price is currently reduced to reflect the reduced offering but just something to be aware off. I would also score them lowly on the food offering. The restaurant looks cool but on the day we visited, there was a limited offering and the fish and chips was not good. Coffee from the smaller kiosk was also disappointing. The main attractions open we're the Brittany exhibition which is a series of smaller tanks and can opportunity to see the seals swimming under water. You can also view the 4 seals above ground. There is also an otter exhibition with 2-3 otters. They're cute but it's a small exhibition. There are some interactive\educational areas and an outdoor play area. We visited as a family with a 6 and 9 year old and they enjoyed it and we did spend over 3 hours there. It's also easy to get to Oceanopolis by bus from Brest. If you're driving there is plenty of parking including an area for camper vans.
Lisa G — Google review
Every nice aquarium for the whole family. Lots of variety in the exhibits and when small children get restless, there are a few outdoor play areas for them to get the wiggles out. Bring your lunch - the restaurant is mediocre.

In season, prefer late morning or afternoon so as not to be overwhelmed by the waves of tourists and appreciate the beauty of the place and its exceptional side. Nestled in the charming seaside village of Audierne, L'Aquashow offers a delightful experience that exceeds expectations. This attraction features an impressive bird show where majestic birds like eagles and owls showcase their skills against a stunning backdrop. While the show is conducted in French, it remains captivating for all ages. Visitors can also enjoy an aquarium filled with fascinating marine life, including local fish and mesmerizing jellyfish displays.
The aquarium was excellent - lots of fish we hadn't seen before and a very curious octopus. We thoroughly enjoyed the bird of prey show, which lasted for around an hour. The animals were incredible and to be able to see them up close was amazing. We had some drinks at the cafe and prices were reasonable. We didn't eat as one of the party has a food allergy, so unable to comment on the food. A fun way to spend a few hours!
Michelle A — Google review
Review from an irish, English speaking family with five children aged between 7 and 16. It's reasonably priced for an attraction when you include the bird show. Firstly there are plenty of ample free parking near the premises. We chose this aquarium as it was know for its bird show. Now although only a few, I must admit the birds they had were stunning and well kept. The overall aquarium experience is short, but my children highly enjoyed it. I must warn though, that the bird show is not spoken in any form of English, so its impossible to know what's being said without knowing the language, for us that was only slightly disappointing but when thaught about also to be expected. that being said I could tell by it, that alot of information is given and several questions answered. It's obvious a lot of work has gone into training the birds and the show. I'd highly recommend it to any French speaking tourists.
R R — Google review
A large aquarium also with birds of prey. I always find it difficult to score such places as it's sad seeing animals in captivity. All the animals were well presented and appeared healthy (I'm not a vet). The sea life and tanks were interesting and all the information cards were in French and English.
Nick H — Google review
Great place and well worth the visit. It is not particularly a big place and you do get around it quickly but the birds they have are amazing. They all seem well looked after. The aquarium section is really interesting aswell with descriptions and explanations in both English and French. The staff were all very friendly and the bird show is brilliant. It is only in French ( which is to be expected) so we did not understand what was being said but you can clearly tell they really know their stuff and the birds get so close to you. Delighted we made the trip and would highly recommend.
Mike — Google review
My family and I enjoyed going here. A shame that we were unaware that the restaurant needed reservations.
Jamie K — Google review
Really good aquarium with some unusual fish. The bird display is top notch. One of the best I've seen, with some unusual additions, including fishing cormorants. Very reasonably priced as well, with a free car park.
George C — Google review
At Aquashow you’re treated to stunning aquariums and a bird show you won’t forget anytime soon. The staff is super friendly – you almost feel like a fish in water yourself. 🐠 The bird show is entirely in French… so if bonjour and merci are the limits of your vocabulary, you might look a bit lost. But no worries: the birds perform without subtitles, and that’s just as impressive. 🐦✨ The rest of the explanations are in both French and English, so you’ll be just fine. All in all: educational, fun, and definitely worth a visit!

Absolutely lovely. Well planted, well maintained, good labelling and information boards. It was very colourful. The rocks and viewpoints are impressive. Well worth visiting.

Imposing 16th-century castle occupying a tiny rocky island, accessible by boat for tours & events.
Excellent for a morning visit. We sailed from Plougasnou. The boat was busy but there was plenty of room. The initial 5 minute introduction to the castle was only in French but we were given a guide book in English and after the intro could simply explore. Most of the notices and boards in the fort were in both French and English so even with our limited French we didn't miss anything. Would definitely recommend.
Andrew K — Google review
The fort itself is pretty cool, definitely worth a visit. I found the history to be even more exciting though! 4/5 stars because there is not that much to see/do.
Andrew J — Google review
We enjoyed the boat tour and appreciated that the guide book had English wording. The trip could be enhanced by providing some basic commentary in English. On arrival at the fort we found ourselves in a big crowd listening to the tour guide speak French. We didn't want to leave as it felt rude. It would have helped if the tour guide let us know in English that the non French speakers were free to leave and to explore the fort. Overall we enjoyed the trip.
LPD M — Google review
Excellent organization of the visit from the start, with a straightforward, informative website, to picking up our tickets, to the boat shuttle. Knowledgeable staff too - and don't forget the gift shop. Quick, the last bell is ringing - don't miss your trip back to the mainland!
Gerald L — Google review
A beautifully restored coastal fort with much effort put into informing and interpreting its usage and siting, along with the history of the site. A great little self guided tour - the information boards are in both French and English - thankyou! Its worth visiting the gift shop for some unique presents too.

Renowned for its stunning architecture and rich historical significance, Locronan has been recognized as a Historic Monument, preserving its charm over the years.
Really loved this town. Only found it by accident. Because the name is similar to my own. We got some great shots here. A really old town with cobble stone streets. Lovely

(Translated by Google) It is noted as “one of the most beautiful villages in France” in my opinion it deserves the title of most beautiful village in France! We did it in the rain and yet its charm was intact. It doesn't seem "worn out" by tourism because it has made tourism a force and it's really beautiful to see. The small shops are all more beautiful than the others.

(Translated by Google) One of the most beautiful villages in France. Its preserved architecture is a delight for the eyes of this small town of character. I had the chance to meet and chat with Clarisse, who runs the small boutique "Les Sylphides". He is an incredible person, the memory of Locronan, religious buildings and the department of Finistère. Her shop is admirably kept and she will not fail to chat with little touches of humor. She will perhaps remember me and my wife, because I had the delicacy to say "Mrs. Clarisse" in our conversation, and she spontaneously replied, "phew, it's not Mrs. Claude". I ADORE. For our next visit she promised me a medal, the only one she still has. I will not fail to go see her and pay her a little friendly visit. Of course I did some Breton shopping. Phare d'Eckmühl is a 19th-century lighthouse, one of the tallest in the world, offering a breathtaking lookout for visitors who climb its beautiful staircase. Despite occasional unpleasant smells from seaweed piles, the surrounding area features charming cafes and souvenir shops. The panoramic view from the top of its 280 steps is truly worth experiencing, making it a must-see attraction when visiting southwest Brittany.
Lovely building with good summary in the free audio tour. Plenty of steps but worth it for the view.

On a warm, calm-sea day, this place is contemplation itself. Take in the lighthouses, but also the mirror-like shoreline as well, out to the furthest in the middle of the sea. Facilities and eateries available, and check out the cute church just a little further up the coastline.

Beautiful location. Lighthouse well worth climbing if you have the nerve! Unfortunately bad smell often pervades the area , not sure but possibly from piles of rotting seaweed. I stand to be corrected on that though. Some lovely little cafe and souvenir shops here too.

307 stairs to get to the observation point on top. Unfortunately, the uppermost section was not available for visits however. The view was still great. Not a long activity though. One of the things we love about trips to France is visiting the great monuments to mans dedication to God over the past centuries. I don't care what God you believe in, these massive buildings are something to behold. And to think they built them without modern technology, building methods, etc. I find them both magnificent and awe inspiring.

Additionally, they provide informative commentary in both French and English during their cruises.

We had a great cruise over the river Odet. The trip was from Benodet to Quimper and back. We saw a great amount of house/manors. My wife and two oldest children has also a boat trip with a fast boat towards several ilands to see the great nature between benodet and the ilands. They als saw seals and a lot of birds. Great trips.
Remco G — Google review
Think twice before booking the boat tour. It's not exactly cheap and we were left stranded in Quimper because we were given the wrong time for the return bus to the port by the booking office. And the bus does not hang around if you are given the right time. We arrived 2 mins late for the correct time. We rang the office for help and we were told to just get a taxi back. With 2 small children in tow and not much French language between us we are hoping to get back in time to have a full blow out with the booking office.
Richard M — Google review
TOURIST TRAP: 49 Euros per person for going to a very small island were you can walk around for about 20 to 25 minutes. Nothing there to see except 2 full bars where people are drinking beers and such. The tour was boring-- most of the Glenan Islands are little pieces of land with nothing on them. Certainly overly hyped but very disappointing in person.

We took the cruise on the l'Odet up to almost Quimper. Enthousiastic guide who explains all the sights in both French and English.

They have short cruises across the Odet that only cost a couple of Euros. They also do longer cruises to St Marie. If you don't fancy a cruise then the tourist road train picks up outside every hour. We almost bumped into this place by chance. It is well hidden in the country outside Chateau Neuf Le Faou. Park and gardens are beautiful and the building in itself is a constant memento of the true substance with which the Belle Epoque was made, it being erected at the end of 19th century. It makes you more historically conscious, if I may say so.

The Closed City of Concarneau is a historic walled island town with ramparts dating back to the Middle Ages. The town, fortified in the 14th century and later modified by architect Vauban, is situated on a small island connected by a stone footbridge. Visitors can stroll along the ramparts, taking in panoramic views of the bay, fishing and yachting ports. The city's cobbled streets are lined with half-timbered houses and numerous shops to explore.
One of the most stunning places you could ever imagine. Truly unique and beautiful
Terry H — Google review
A small, fortified city on an island at Concarneau. We arrived at low tide, and left as the tide returned. You can walk part of the ramparts but only one ruined tower. Inside, the city consists of essentially 3 streets--1 main thoroughfare & two streets along the castle walls. Most of the buildings are restaurants and clothing or souvenir shops. A lovely view of the bay can be seen on 2 sides, while the other sides show the adjoining town. Historical signs are few & in French only. We visited on a market day, so parking was a pain. We finally found spots about a mile away. Stop on the castle walls side for a less crowded lunch. A photo opp outside L'Amiral for Magritte & Dupin mystery fans. It's free to enter the close.

The Musée des Beaux-Arts de Pont-Aven is a museum that showcases the works of artists from the Pont-Aven School, a group that gathered in the village between 1850 and 1890. The collection includes pieces by well-known artists such as Emile Bernard, Paul-Emile Colin, Paul Serusier, and Paul Gauguin, featuring styles ranging from Synthetism to post-Impressionism.

It's remarkable that this impressive museum only opened its doors in 1985. In the second half of the 19th century, Pont-Aven held a considerable appeal for artists. They came here to paint, as the museum's collection attests. The term "École de Pont-Aven" only emerged later. And it wasn't exclusively French artists who came to work in this region of Brittany; artists of other nationalities also came. The museum explores various themes through artworks from 1850 to 1950. The different perspectives provide a beautiful and varied picture of this particularly artistically prolific period in Pont-Aven. A visit is definitely a must for art lovers.

Very nice museum, the current temporary exhibition is absolutely worth a visit, if you are in the general area of pont-aven. The permanent exhibition is nice, as you can visit some of the sceneries in the paintings within 5 minutes of walking along the woods and the places are definitely recognisable still.

A wonderful cycle through Brittany. The itinerary was personalised, the touring bikes excellent and perfectly maintained. The accomodation varied and fun. And the food recommendations perfect. We cant think of anything that could be improved.

This was our second time with Breton Bikes. Having done a route up to the North we chose a route South to Carnac from the wide range of options. With the overnight ferry from Plymouth we arrived quite early on Saturday but they were able to accommodate this and had our bikes and camping equipment ready. The route directions were detailed but easy to follow and we spent the week on a variety of campsites ranging from very basic to quite commercial. On the previous trip we'd had a minor problem with one bike. Geoff had been very happy to drive out to us when we phoned but in the end talked me through what was needed to fix it. No problems at all this time though. Altogether a very enjoyable trip and we are already thinking about a third.

Very, very positive experience with Breton Bikes. Great bike routes and scenery - this is rural Brittany! Wonderful accommodations - small guest houses or hotels in which we could talk with the hosts or guests. Being on our own for meals worked great - we could eat what we wanted and when we wanted. We had one small glitch with a bike and Geoff was very quick to respond and fix it. We are independent travelers so being on our own with maps worked well for us but Geoff was available if we had questions. Highly recommend Breton Bikes!

What a wonderful way to spend a week! Brittany's beauty exceeded our expectations. It was a delight to cycle through the countryside with its rolling green hills, forests, beaches and charming old world villages full of flowers and character. We were very happy that we chose to go with Breton Bikes. Geoff and Kate run a family business and are experts at what they do. Geoff assembles many of the bikes himself. There is a tour available for every fitness level and interest. We really enjoyed meeting them and we felt very well supported throughout our week. We chose the heart of Brittany Tour on regular bicycles which was a great choice for us. The bikes were comfortable and well maintained. Our longest day of cycling was 53 km (actually 63 km for us as we got a little lost) and included some hard hills. We liked that a couple of the longer days cycling were a bit challenging for us. The tour was well planned with shorter cycling days at the beginning and end and an optional rest day in the middle. We opted to cycle even on the rest day as we were having such a great time. Accommodations ranged from pretty simple to fairly luxurious. We got well fed or had good food available nearby at every place we stayed. The low price of wine, cider and three course meals almost everywhere delighted us! The bikes were great, people were friendly, scenery was gorgeous and prices were right. What's not to love? We highly recommend Breton Bikes!!

We had a wonderful cycling trip in a scenic part of France. The e-bikes were excellent and made the tough hills manageable. The accommodations were very good and the midpoint ocean stop was well-timed. We did get lost a few times and maybe the directions could sometimes have been clearer but all’s well that ends well.

I have nothing but good things to say about Breton Bikes, the owners Kate and Geoff Husband, and the glorious countryside in the interior of southern Brittany. My wife Barbara and I live in San Francisco, CA. We have been bicycling in Europe pretty much every year since 1973. In the early days we brought our bikes over on the plane, carried our gear in panniers ( We change our people, not our clothes.), and mapped out our own routes. We rarely made hotel arrangements. We would pull into town and find a place to stay. About 20 years ago we opted to hire bikes in the area in which we would be cycling. In the past few years we have “graduated” to hiring ebikes. We have never considered working with one of the high end bike group tour operators that move your bags from place to place, have a guide who cycles with you, and a sag wagon to rescue you if you have a problem. That’s not our style. Early this spring we decided we wanted to cycle in Brittany, one of the few regions in France we did not know. We wanted to find a local tour operator who could provide us with good ebikes and panniers to carry our gear, map out a route for us, and make arrangements for us to stay in small towns. My Googling led me to Breton Bikes, exactly the sort of tour operator we were looking for. We recently returned from a delightful, early June, eight day cycle tour in the interior of southern Brittany. We cycled along canal towpaths and sleepy country roads, by golden wheat fields, dairy cows, forests, and roses bushes blooming in front of most houses. Breton Bikes arranged for us to stay in small hotels and B&Bs. We particularly enjoyed our conversations with our B&B hosts all whom spoke English. I attach a few pictures. We want to come back!
Bob S — Google review
The thing about Breton Bikes cycle tours is how much you discover that there is to discover! We have done three tours over the last ten years; two on their redoubtable 'BB Specials' and one on electric bikes. These are reliable machines that carry you & your week's luggage (two large paneers and a handle bar box) comfortably and safely along your itinerary - we have never had to call on Geoff and Kate's offer of roadside assistance. Our usual choice is to go in late spring or early summer. Yes, we have been rained on sometimes but have always dried out soon after the sun is back out & all is forgiven with a glass of cider or wine in hand. If your cycling clothes are damp, the panniers have kept your evening clothes properly dry, ready to change into after a shower. Mostly though, the weather has been warm & dry. Routes are well planned, cycle friendly and diverse. I understand that Breton Bikes cycle their routes before each season to check they are up to date; they also visit their chosen accommodation to make sure expectations are realistic. Expect real contrasts in accommodation! Some are 'basic', while some are sumptuous indeed... Hosts are always glad to welcome you at the end of what they realise has been a good day's exercise. It is worth talking to Geoff & Kate before you set off and use their extensive local knowledge to help you plan how you spend each day. There is much more to do than cycling! Depending on the distance you will cover each day, you may want to buy a picnic before setting off or you may be passing a bistro at lunchtime, where you can enjoy the 'plat de jour' (in your cycling gear). If you're really lucky, you may catch a village market. So do ask and have a think about what you want to get out of your week. It's great to get back to Guarec at the end of the week with a sense of accomplishment and indulge in some well earned boasting about how fit you have become. We have never managed our stated aim to weigh less at the end of a week’s cycling in Brittany – it’s just not a fair fight with all that wonderful seafood, pastry & cheese lying in wait wherever you go!
Conrad S — Google review
We had an excellent 2 week cycle tour of Brittany. No problem at all with the bikes, & the gear provided. Really excellent set up. I highly recommend it for any wanting to explore Brittany by bicycle . The campsite at Gouarec is lovely and well equipped as well. Geoff & Kate were really helpful right from first booking. Should add they held our deposit through COVID, so we could book this year 😊🚴

Cité de la Voile Eric Tabarly, located in Lorient, Brittany, is a modern and interactive sailing museum that offers hands-on exhibits, simulators, and boat trips during the summer. The museum pays tribute to Eric Tabarly, a renowned Armorican sailor. Visitors can enjoy experiments, manipulations, 4D videos, and an impressive navigation simulator. The museum also features large submarines for tourists to explore and learn about their role in World War II.
So much more history here than I realized! Invited to see the place by a friend, and knew nothing of the German occupation, the repurposing of their U-boat manufacturing sites. The museums looked to be great, had I known they were there I'd have planned more time so as to be able to take them in! The docks were open to walk along, and the variety of sailing vessels to check out was outstanding. Certainly they are more on the cutting edge of technology here - would be excellent if there was a way to try them out as a working deck hand, though from past experience sailing in France I'd guess it would be essential to have good working fluency in French to try it! (I did not...)
Laine M — Google review
There’s like four parts to the base museum and half of them weren’t open, the submarine part is only french and for each part you need a separate ticket. Entry to just the Tabarly part was 14€ each and the clerk told us it would take about two hours. We took our time but were outside again after 30 minutes and learned pretty much nothing. It’s probably educational if you know exactly zero about how a boat works. We felt kinda ripped off and the only thing that redeemed the trip was that we “accidentally” walked through a restricted section of the k2 bunker which was pretty cool.

Great place, especially with kids. 4stars for parking as it's really terrible, had to park quite far cos local car parks were full ( we got there at11am ) and for the long wait for getting tickets - as there is a lot to do with different tickets, the staff takes a long time sharing all info with each group (it's all good info, but there only 3 staff).

The Sous-Marin Flore-S645 museum in Lorient offers a unique opportunity to explore the K1 and K3 U-boat pens, providing insight into the region's Cold War history. The well-preserved submarine holds significant historical value for the locals. Visitors can embark on a tour of the K2 section of the submarine, which is thoughtfully laid out and illuminated. The multilingual presentation ensures that guests receive comprehensive information.
A great museum that teaches you about French submarine history and the important role this base had during both WW2 and the Cold War. It was a unique experience to step inside a decommissioned diesel submarine. Arrive early for parking close to the museum.

It's best to book a time slot in advance. It's not an extensive museum but it is interesting and the walk through the submarine with audio commentary is worthwhile.

We took the English speaking tour of the K3 building and then we did the submarine museum with the walk though of the submarine and it was well worth the trip.

The exhibitions before the tour is very interesting and informative. The audio tour inside the Flore is just perfect. My two girls (18 and 8) enjoyed the museum too. It was an emotional moment for me as I did my first dive in La Flore in 1984 during military service. I feel very lucky I'm able to visit a boat I was once a crew (even for a very short time only). The other submaribe based in Lorient I spend most time on was sent to the scrapyard. I will be back to visit the base (again). Merci!

Amazing history, I didn't manage to get on the U-boat which I'm sure would have been great. Seeing the history of the port is very educational and great few hours out. Little food stalls around when you get hungry too

A great day out, visiting the submarine, museum and submarine pen. The staff are all very friendly and extremely informative, particularly the guide for the k3 pen. Would also recommend the sailing trip around the harbour. Plenty of restaurants to choose from so spoilt for choice.

We are so glad that we visited the museum and submarine itself. In the museum u can watch 3 films telling us history of Bretagne, times of WW2 and now times. To go inside of the submarine it's a great chance to dive in life of marines. I was with my son, his age is 11 and my friend with the son of the same age.
Veronika — Google review
The tour of K2 of the submarine. It was a great experience. Well laid out. Well lit. The story at the start was interesting. This part of the tour they have multiple languages preset so you get all the information. Visiting k3 and the guided tour was interesting but only available in french and to visit k3 you need a guide. The tour guide had a lot of knowledge and passion but was too fast for myself to translate and was not able to absorb the interesting history and story. K2 and sub is well worth visiting alone. Also a great way to escape when the heat gets to hot.
