Beautiful old abbaye with scenes straight out of a romantic era painting. The gardens and orchard is beautiful and makes for a wonderful visit.

Excellent experience. Beautifully maintained and with clear, well composed explanations. The building is obviously a ruin but the work done to maintain it has been very sympathetically directed. Just the right degree of renovation, but with enough decay and collapse to maintain the romantic feel. We were so pleased to find such a site that we could visit without leaving our dogs in the car. They were welcomed throughout.

A peaceful and picturesque stop. Even with a short visit, Abbaye de Beauport leaves an impression — the ruins are beautifully preserved, and the views of the sea and gardens through the old stone arches are stunning. There’s a calm atmosphere throughout, perfect for a quiet walk and some lovely photos. Well worth a visit if you’re in the area.

The ruins of this ancient abbey are beautiful. In summer, we can see fruit trees and green areas with a background view of the see and islands.
Gerardo L — Google review
Lovely Abbey in the sun or rain . The lawn on the way in to the abbey in spring is a mass of wild flowers and is beautiful. The outside walks are free , but you get into the Abbey itself costs , 7€ for adults and 4€ for concessions.(2024) The ruins are architectural and very photogenic. Inside you learn of the history, with cards in different languages and an visual display showing the day of the monks who once lived there. Just outside is starting point for the Camino de Santiago. The walled garden has many fruit trees, apples and pears , bushes raspberries, red , black currants and gooseberries.. It also has various old roses , that are truly beautiful and possibly unique. There are normally exhibitions on , and when I visited , they had tapestries of satellite images taken around Brittany. These are truly amazing. There is a cafe too , if you need a break . The staff were very helpful and do speak English , if your French is not so good .

Beautiful and magical, the castle is well kept and the garden looks magnificent. Such a great surprise for such a little cute village

Our visit to Josselin’s Castle was absolutely delightful! It proved to be a fantastic experience for all ages, offering something engaging for everyone in our family. Exploring the beautiful castle grounds with my wife, our 4-year-old, and our 6-month-old was both convenient and enjoyable. The rich history, stunning architecture, and family-friendly atmosphere made it a memorable outing. Highly recommended for families looking for an easy, enriching adventure!

We loved Josselin, one of the nicest places we have visited. The castle is in great condition with lovely grounds. Unless you have a guide you cannot visit all of it
Kathryn L — Google review
Have visited a couple of times, gardens are beautiful and views over the canal are fantastic.
Deborah P — Google review
What a lovely little town and castle, as well as gardens. Situated on the Nantes-Brest Canal in Brittany, it is the home of the Dukes of Rohan. Most of the grounds are open to the public, as well as the first floor of the Chateau and part of the basement. A bust by Rodin is in one room and one of the Dukes astride a horse in another (a prep work for a statue now in the Castle of Suscinio). The village of Josselin seems to wrap itself around the Chateau and is a lovely stroll too.
Chris C — Google review
Lovely chateau to visit. Also a lovely village. A must visit.

Lovely castle and grounds to visit! We came as a family in the summer, the castle and house has plenty to look at and see, with activities for the kids. Everything is well kept/restored to a high quality. The grounds offer lots of private paths and things to explore. Perfect places for a picnic. Highly recommended!

Nearby attractions include the fortified city of Saint-Malo, the Pink granite coast, and the medieval castle at Fort de la Latte.
Beautiful hiking area. The lighthouse is great but the most spectacular views of it and the landscape are accessible from hiking paths that start from the lighthouse. Lots of locals and tourists, big parking lot that cost 3 EUR. Reserve many hours and bring picnic lunch/dinner for best experience
Vilhelm — Google review
It is free, visitors just need to pay for the car park. It was around €3. It took us around an hour and a half to walk around. There are some portable toilets near the car park. They are extremely filthy and stinky. Cap Fréhel is a peninsula in Côtes-d'Armor, in northern Brittany, France which extends off the Côte d'Émeraude into the Bay of Saint-Malo. People come here do some exploring the iconic lighthouse, visiting Fort La Latte, hiking along the scenic trails, and observing the diverse birdlife. When we were here, there were lots of people doing birdwatching. Although it was a sunny hot day in July, it was still very windy so it is highly recommended to bring a windbreaker.
J. Q — Google review
This was one of the highlights of our trip. Fantastic landscape. Parking was 3€ but definitely worth it. We spent 2 hours walking around the coastline looking at the spectacular cliffs.
Ronald S — Google review

A very interesting place to observe the Emerald Coast. Very windy, could be crowded around 14.00, with only few parking places available. Parking is 3€

Beautiful and charming place that is worth a visit if you are in Brittany. Easy to reach, both by car and also by bus. Better than expected, was really interesting and immersive experience, the English translation was really good. Whole family loved it. Didn't get a ticket by email when I booked online but I had the payment confirmation I used at the desk.
Chris P — Google review
A very immersive experience that teaches you the interesting lore and legends of the area. Translation audio devices are available, don't forget to ask for yours before you go in. High quality experience that I would come back to again.
Jared W — Google review
Excellent animation about the forest and the myth of Brocéliande. The way the spectator goes through is very well organised and it is suitable for both adults and children. The surroundings are magnificent and the staff is welcoming. Also, it is accessible for people with disability or difficulty to stand/walk !
Clément E — Google review
A mythical spot that contains numerous shops to perk your interest and tempt the magical or skeptical side. Some shops are commercial while others are original containing natural items or unique trinkets. At the end of the road is the tourist spot for a tour and legend of the forest. This tour is recommended and gives you great information on the history of the forest before you set out and explore it on your own Like if you agree ✍️

Tour de l'Horloge

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Tour de l'Horloge is a 40-meter high tower offering breathtaking views of Dinan and its surroundings, with visibility extending to Mont-Saint Michel on clear days. Initially built as a meeting room and watchtower for fire prevention during Duke Francisco II's reign, it was later upgraded to include a clock and bell under Duchess Anne of Brittany's orders.
This is just one attraction in Dinan and a very good one it is. From its 46 meters, the clock tower offers stunning views of Dinan, its medieval town and Rance. The Clock Tower is open from April to September. Built in the fifteenth century by François II Duke of Brittany, the Clock Tower was primarily intended for monitoring Dinan. A highlight of the city of Dinan, it symbolizes the power of the bourgeoisie against the clergy and the ducal power. In 1507, Anne of Brittany installed a clock, this monument fits among the belfries. Since then is no longer the religious services that punctuate the time in the city of Dinan but the bell of the Clock Tower. The mechanism of this clock is presented on the ground floor of the tower.
Ewan B — Google review
CLIMBING THE TOWER IS HEAVY BUT AT THE END YOU HAVE A GREAT VIEW OVER THE MEDIEVAL TOWN!

Carl B — Google review
Excellent attraction in Dinan! Probably the most beautiful 360 degree viewpoint in the city! Really recommended. The ticket is also cheap. Our twins loved it. However be careful with smaller children, particularly in the upper part that is very steep.
Laura — Google review
Beautiful village. Nice and calm atmosphere near the end of July. We parked down at the bridge (viaduct, one way except for parking), and walked out way up to the old town. Quite a climb, but doable.
Milan J — Google review
The place is interesting but when it gets full they close the door without putting a notice up that says “full now, wait 10-15 minutes” so some people gave up. Also video was broken and person in charge did not know how to fix it or get it fixed. These problems are so easy to address and would make this a 5 Star visit.

(Translated by Google) Too bad, despite the sun, we didn't appreciate the organization: a lot of waiting, we spent more time queuing than seeing the entertainment. No clear signs to find the sites, especially when you don't know Dinan... and when you ask the organizers, no one is able to show you the way! The welcome booklet is not clear... and above all, it's excessively expensive for what it is! Too many people, especially with young children, it's not pleasant because the sites are so far apart. In short, we tried it randomly during our vacation, but it won't be the best memory. The welcome from the surrounding merchants was much warmer than in the city center where you feel that the event serves more for them and their profit than for the satisfaction of the spectators.

(Translated by Google) First good experience over 20 years ago. Second experience 2025: 🤔🙄😬. The few information boards don't tell you where you are, nor does the leaflet that lists squares or streets, without identifying them on the map; you have to make do with the phone (medieval atmosphere!). The information at reception is just as vague, because people are locals and it seems obvious to them... The €18 "activities" pass is downright ridiculous: apart from a rather lively tournament, for the rest, you wonder if you're early or arrived too late. The lice show, on the other hand, is successful and enjoyable but aimed more at a young audience. You have to pay €15 extra because it's not included in the pass... I'll briefly mention the parking difficulties and the excessive prices for takeout food. As for the pavane, it clearly lacks atmosphere, except for a few troupes performing, but the bulk of the parade is made up of costumed visitors who have been invited to march and who, as a result, only march. The 2 stars are for: - the medieval market, in keeping with the theme with the products on offer - the concerts on stage, also in keeping with the theme - the volunteers who are generally available and welcoming (apart from the reception) - the town, its streets, its medieval military architecture Overall, the atmosphere is lacking, it's very expensive for what's on offer, and above all, the feeling of wandering around without being sure you're in the right place.

(Translated by Google) Lots of negatives. ...the costume box office opens at 10 a.m. ...the shows start at 10 a.m. ...a 1-hour queue... The paper program... no details or schedule for the troupes' passage through the ticketed venues...you have to go to the website... The worst part: the inventory management system with terminals that volunteers have a hard time using, endless queues for a beer or a crepe. The computer registration of your name An endless waste of time at the box office. The restaurants that mainly think about selling but not serving...very average.... Les Remparts de Saint-Malo, also known as the walls of Saint-Malo, are a historic and picturesque feature of this coastal town. Built between the 12th and 18th centuries to protect the town from invasions and pirate attacks, these mighty walls played a crucial role during World War II. Walking along the 2 km stretch of ramparts offers stunning views of the old city and the English Channel.
Walking here is a fantastic experience, allowing you to observe the beautiful sea. At sunset, the walls transform into a dreamlike landscape.

Not completely overrun so far! Gives you a great understanding of old town structures and has a super nice flair! Just beat the crowd and be early there to get one of the parking spots outside of the city center.

No tickets necessary. Just over a mile to walk round. Steps up to the top of the ramparts. Beautiful views of the town and sea

Historical & Landmark Saint-Malo walls This is a great place to come and visit. It is free of charge, so all you have to do is find one of the staircases leading you to the walkway the wardens & guards would have taken to check if the enemy was not coming ;) This is also a fantastic viewpoint and it is really good to start your visit of SM here as it does give you a perspective of the whole city somehow (obviously talking here about the intramuros part). The views were great & the walk is fantastic specially on a good day. Highly recommended!

This city is just one of a kind. It’s really crowded during the weekends and you think their is enough parking but their isn’t haha. We stayed a whole week to check out everything and it was really worth it. Go their during summer or during fall if you wanna see the big waves

A very interesting place to visit. Although the narrow streets could get claustrophobic if spending too much time there. Absolutely full of restaurants. We took the wee tourist train which gives a good look round without getting lost!

The most amazing place. Do not be put off if you think you're not too interested in cars, like me. There is something for everyone. I loved the displays of model cars too. Took me back in time when our kids loved doing those model kits. Would definitely go again. The display is so big, you can't quite comprehend it! Highly recommended and not at all expensive to go in there.

Literally the biggest car museum I've been to! Amazing collection, totally bonkers section upstairs with all the mannequins, and an in-house cider bar. Totally worth the €15 - would 100% recommend.

Excellent afternoon spent here, family of 7 adults. Incredible private collection and we were lucky enough to meet the owner. Mr Hummel and some of his own manufactured cars. The whole fleet of vehicles are working usable vehicles. The raving tracks look incredible too and whilst we didn't use these there were cars going round. Something to note, no cafe unless July & August.

Chris K — Google review
6 stars if it was possible. If you are interested in cars the museum has every type, from the first 'Horseless Carriages' to modern famous Formular 1 cars and every type between. The museum is huge, on 2 floors. Expect 4 to 5 hours to see them all.

Without a doubt this is the best automobile museum that I have ever visited. The room with the 18 Formula One cars in it would be worth the trip alone. There is a huge display of vintage vehicles from around the world. Every room that you can walk into has something that will grab your attention. There is plenty of space to walk around the museum and really enjoy the vehicles. The number of race cars here is unreal, not surprising that there are three tracks outside. They also have rooms with a great number of models which are displayed very well. Upstairs there is a display of years past with models of horses, carriages and workshops among other great things. The wee gift shop here has a huge amount of items worth a look at. You leave through here, up a step and outside to the greenery. I would highly recommend a visit here, especially for those that are racing fans.

One of the best Automotive Museums I've visited in recent years. There is something for everyones taste here, with room after room of well prepared vehicles, models, engines and parts. The Engine chapel made me laugh, a fun refrence to worshiping the ICE engine, with f1 v10 noises playing instead of an organ. Certainly felt like my own tastes of 80-90s saloons and french tin where well catered for! So much more here though! Not sure how many other collections have a Renault Safrane Bi-Turbo and two Muiras but its all the better for it! F1 collection is way more expansive than just the initial room full of vehicles, great to see carbon brakes, clutch packs, v10 engines and incredible parts you dont usually get much access to! Rallycross track accross from the Museum is good to have a quick look at too, and you can stay in your motorhome/ van overnight, but wouldnt recomend unless you are intending to visit the collection. Gift shop was full of really good models and t-shirts etc, Michel Hommell himself was there too! Real petrolhead nirvana. Half a day would be best to get around everything.

The Portes Mordelaises in Rennes is one of the few remaining vestiges of the city's ramparts. Known as royal gates for their role in the enthronement of the Dukes and Duchesses of Brittany, they consist of two gates: a large one for vehicles and a smaller one for pedestrians. Surrounded by two symmetrical towers and a drawbridge, these gates served as a defense system for the city.

Parc du Thabor, also known as the "Central Park rennais," is a must-visit in Rennes. Spanning over 10 hectares, this 18th-century park features French and English-style gardens, a botanical garden with over 3000 species, aviaries housing non-native bird species, a music kiosk, and a rose garden boasting more than 2,000 varieties of roses.
A simply lovely place to visit and walk about. A great variety of plants, trees and flowers. There's a children's play area and a super collection of birds, chickens and roosters. The birds kept us captive for a better part of a half hour and the chicken entertained us for another quarter hour .

Parc du Thabor in Rennes, France is truly a delightful escape in the heart of the city. Spanning over 10 hectares, this beautifully maintained park offers a perfect blend of French formal gardens, English-style landscaping, and a lovely botanical garden. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, it’s a serene spot to relax, take a walk, or enjoy a peaceful afternoon. What makes Parc du Thabor special is its charm and diversity. The rose garden is absolutely stunning in bloom, with hundreds of varieties adding color and fragrance to the air. The tall, shaded trees and open grassy areas make it ideal for picnics or simply lounging with a book. Families will appreciate the well-kept playgrounds, and there are even aviaries with exotic birds to admire. Throughout the seasons, the park remains a lively yet calming place — perfect for a morning jog, a romantic stroll, or some quiet reflection. It’s also close to the city center, making it easily accessible and a great break from the hustle of urban life. Overall, Parc du Thabor is a must-visit if you’re in Rennes. It’s a beautiful, peaceful space that showcases the natural beauty and thoughtful design typical of great European parks.

Must visit in Rennes! Come with kids and your family and you'll find a charming French garden with pleasant greenery. In particular you need to visit the birds nest! Try to grab a stick under the surrounding trees and let parrots come up to you. Such a wonderful place to visit in summer time.

I would have liked to give 4 stars but I think it will make more impact on reducing to make sure this catch the attention. I went to this park on the 29/08/2025 and first of all this is a very pretty and lit park. It’s free to enter and I also found some ducks and chickens I think :) (correct me if I am wrong) as I went to the park and explored then I needed to use the toilet so I didn’t check if there was any other as the Google maps led me to this specific toilet but I wasn’t the only one trying to use the facility. But,I am very disappointed by the fact that the toilet facility is not looked after at all. It looks like it has been clean for weeks. I mean how can you take care of a place you opened for the general public and the tourist alike, then ignore the fact that if you are expecting them to see there and spend time they cannot have somewhere to go and satisfy their humans needs(🚽🧻🧼🧴🪣). At least do some effort. Overall it’s a great park to visit but be mindful of this when planning to go there.

The Musée Christian Dior is located in the charming seaside childhood home of the renowned fashion designer. The villa, known as "The Rhumbs," boasts a stunning cliff garden created by Dior's mother. The museum not only pays homage to Dior but also hosts captivating fashion exhibitions. Visitors can explore the beautiful surrounding gardens with breathtaking views and enjoy a delightful tearoom on-site. Additionally, there is a museum store offering unique gifts.
A visit that has been on my list for a long time, and I finally went. Personally, I loved it. The house and gardens were a joy to walk around. All the staff were super friendly. The shop has a small collection but it is not overpriced and the items are just lovely. The coffee shop was the cherry on the cake. Pardon the pun! It is not the biggest place I have visited, but it is up there with the best day trips I have made. The collections change, and I will return.

Very cute museum. There you can learn about Christian Dior childhood and see several iconic peaces made by him. The staff is super friendly and efficient. The gardens are super well maintained and beautiful.

Wonderful house with a stunning garden and view. Sometimes there could’ve been a little more translations in English, but nevertheless it was a great experience. I would advise to buy tickets before, I didn’t have to wait at all while the queue was long. The garden is beautiful with the flowers and plants and of course the view of the sea is stunning. There is an easy way down the sea as well. Can also recommend the little café in the garden.

Such a Beautiful place to Visit. Highly recommend. Great Free Gardens to walk around and also there are steps down to the beach from the garden. Also enjoyed the house and museum. Great for kids as upstairs in the museum they have a place where children can colour in some dress designs and do puzzles, whilst the adults look around.
John C — Google review
Beautiful grounds but overall a disappointing experience. The house inside had been so altered to take the displays you get little feel for what it was like. The were a lot of designs by people under the Dior name but the was little about Christian Dior and his history and development. Only one toilet so long queues
Bob L — Google review
Very interesting experience with the family on our time spent to learn about the birth place of one of the most influencing French fashion designers of the 20th century, Christian Dior. It is recommended to book. The earlier, the merrier! You may be lucky, and arrive without booking, but you will likely wait for a bit as the house can only accept a maximum of 50 visitors at the time. So make sure you stay hydrated and an umbrella may be useful in case of rain or blazing sun conditions. The design of the inside of the museum and the garden were found up to our expectations, very refined and sparkling. Just a bit of a pity, that some of the rooms are kept in the dark, which makes it sometimes hard to read notes on the walls. The visit is not suitable for people who cannot go up and down stairs. The toilets area is kept outside the museum. It may need a bit more signs for directions. But against all expectations, toilets were found very dirty and neglected (no toilet paper found in the ladies room). Except these things, it was a rather good visit.
Julien J — Google review
Interesting Musuem lots of history well displayed. And you are able to design your own dress and leave on the wall. Gardens are very relaxing. A must visit.

Porte de l'Avancée is one of the three grand doors marking the main street at Mont Saint Michel. The castle doesn't require tickets for entry, but you'll need them to access the top for a breathtaking view and to visit the current exhibition celebrating its 1000-year anniversary. While there are plenty of steps, free toilets are available inside the exhibition area, or you can use paid facilities at the entrance.
Mont Saint Michel is an amazing place. You don't need tickets to enter the castle, but you will need to tickets to get to the top - the view is amazing and well worth it. There's also a current exhibition for the 1000 year anniversary. Plenty of steps, free toilets inside the exhibition area or you will have to pay 1 Euro at the front. There's a free bus shuttle to take you from the visitors centre or you can walk, which takes about 30-35mins.

I have to say my experience at these Toilets was very appalling. My reason being that the Lady running it charged 2 Euros for me to excrete my bodily fluids. Anyways there was another Woman working there who looked like she was at the lowest point in her life even lower than the Mariana Trench (for those who have been living under a rock the Mariana Trench is the deepest underwater trench in the world). Anyways, back to the story, as I entered the sanctuary of the Mont Saint Michael bathrooms a very pungent smell came about my nostrils. To my disgust I found large splats of diarrhoea smelted across the walls (my best assumption was the Charging lady from the start as her face looked as red as my little boys cherries). Anyways, my experience at the Toilets was not only pungent and disgusting it was filling me with gratitude to the fact that back in the Brexit geezer land of the UK we have access to free toilets. - infinity/ 10. Small, inhabited island with 11th-century, Romanesque abbey & the highest tides in Europe.
Absolutely worth the day trip! It's very convenient to visit, as there is a free shuttle bus from the car park directly to the bridge. We walked up to the Abbey and explored the shops inside. On the way down, we took the scenic outer path, where you can enjoy different views of the sand and water. I highly recommend trying the omelette and the lamb chops—they were delicious!

Majestic!!!!! Town is free to enter. The abbey is a must do, its the main part of the town, get tickets in advance and dont miss the audioguide. Best we have had and nothing would make sense without the context it provides. Do the abbey in the afternoon so you can make your way up to it slowly. See the bridge at high tide, so you can see the town mostly covered in water, for photos. It rarely gets fully covered and only lasts an hour if it does. Parking is $20. There is a shuttle, but walk if you can. The walk up slowly is the best part and only takes a half hour. Give extra time to walk the fields all around it for different views and the sheep. We definitely wanted a full day. Could have done one day in the town and a second day to wander all around the outside. We rented a car from Paris for 3 days. The tolls to drive there and back cost us about $45.
Julia Z — Google review
Very impressive abbey and small village built or a rock, just off the coast. You get there via a purpose built bridge. Park your car on the "mainland" and get the free bus to the abbey. Walk through the tiny little streets that look like the Harry Potter set! Unique experience.

Georgeous place, the walf from the parking to the castle takes up to 30-40 min but it's worth. When you get there you can walk through the surroundings freely, but you need tickets (in advance) to enter the castle. It's full of souvenir stores, some restaurants, WC...

Oh gosh, that was great destination. If you ever wanna visit France, don't miss it. It's a must do location. If you'll walk up to the top of the tiny city, you'll think differently about your life, you'll be very happy and you'll understand...why it's important to walk up to the top and think about your life while you slowly look around, you'll understand in a second that we are so small and fragile ... We are all birds of God! Slow down and start feeling the meaning of real life. Here the nature will rule on you, you're small..... nature is big.

Have been fascinated with this fairytale "castle" on a magical island for a long time. Found out more about it when planning the visit. This amazing structure was Gothic abbey and prison in the early centuries. High and low tide, day and night, four seasons give this abbey different charm. Not much light up at night, except in July and August, however you're not expecting big crowd.😉
Miley C — Google review
This is a stunning place and an engineering Marvel. However. It’s a long drive from Paris and the parking lots and mandatory buss ride from the parking lot leave a lot to be desired. The bathrooms at the visitor center would take your breath, men’s and women’s. Upon reaching the island, the streets were very narrow and overcrowded, and it was Shop after shop of more or less the same souvenirs largely Chinese junk. Tried some poor quality ice cream. Unless walking on the mud / sand flats with the island in the background is your thing I wouldn’t wast my time here. There are beautiful churches everywhere in Europe. That are much easier to visit. And much prettier beaches elsewhere in France. The site as whole was a little dirty and unkept. I can’t imagine how awful the crowding would be in peak season.
Shawn S — Google review
We visited early in the morning — we were there around 7:30 AM. It was very easy to find a parking spot. Since it was early, hardly anyone had arrived yet, and we chose to use the shuttle. If you come at this hour, you can witness an incredible tidal phenomenon within about two hours and see how the sea surrounds the island. We didn’t go inside the cathedral. Even just the tide is a natural spectacle that you absolutely must see. If you want to avoid the crowds and enjoy a more peaceful experience, early morning is the best time to visit.

Historical landmark
Château de Fougères is a 12th-century military fortress situated on an outcrop, offering historical tours and interactive activities for kids. Built strategically on a high rock above the River Nancon, it served as a defense stronghold for the surrounding lands. The castle was initially constructed of wood, destroyed in 1166, and later rebuilt with stone. Visitors can explore the well-preserved castle and its medieval quarter, including Place du Marchix and St Leonards church with breathtaking views.
A truly staggering Chateau that just keeps going. I think it would take half a day to get around it all. The museum is in one of the towers and worth a visit. If you just want a look around there is half a kilometre of ramparts with great views and a waterwheel building with four working waterwheels.

An amazing place to visit. Not expensive and dominates the town and scenery. The whole town is a testament to the history of the region. There are a lot of steps if you want to walk up the towers and along the ramparts - with no alternative. It is in exceptional condition and there were free audio guides. A lot of information boards and magnificent views of the town and surrounding areas.

When thinking about this trip, we decided to stop off at more towns and villages, as we miss so much when we rush down to the Mediterranean. This medieval village certainly did not disappoint. The castle and moat jump right out of the pages of history books. The quaint little buildings, the high up church, half timbered houses, and of course the splattering of bars and restaurants. The municipal motorhome parking area soon fills up, so don't arrive too late in the day. €6.50 gets you 24 hours, which is great value. We're so glad that we stopped off here.

When it comes to themed gardens, Terra Botanica is one of a kind in Europe. With collections spanning from butterfly houses and tropical glasshouses to a 4D cinema that takes viewers into the world of dinosaurs, this park has something for everyone. The event planner business center here is well equipped, spacious, and tables can be a bit small. However, the food here is generally satisfactory aside from the main dish which was quite small in quantity and not very generous.

Sights & Landmarks
Cultural landmark
Château d'Angers is a 13th-century castle located on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Maine River. It has been an integral part of France's history, serving as a protective fortress for the kingdom. The castle boasts 17 defensive towers made of schist and sandstone, creating an imposing exterior that contrasts with its inviting interior, including rose and hydrangea gardens.
Excellent! A superb chateau with 800+ years of history, hosting the vast and impressive tapestry of the apocalypse. There is a huge moat with ornate gardens in one part, excellent views of the river and city, superb ramparts and a multilingual audio guide that gives you the details as you walk around. There are internal herb and flower gardens and even a small vineyard within the chateau!
Ian J — Google review
We used the audio guide while visiting which was well worth it for the tapestry. Which is absolutely amazing. The rest of the fortress is worth the visit. The gardens are especially impressive
Carolyn H — Google review
Great château but more of a defended fortress. Well worth the 11 euro entry fee. Coffee shop, bookshop and toilets. Most areas wheelchair friendly. Apocalypse tapestry and exhibition well worth a visit. Parking nearby suspended for resurfacing.
Sarah M — Google review
Lots of things to see: gardens, ramparts, exhibits, the Tapestry of the Apocalypse and a surprisingly nice restaurant. We just got ice cream and ate in the shade, but plenty to do. I recommend the audio guide for the Tapestry of the Apocalypse.
Nate A — Google review
Big discovery - I didn’t know this castle. If you want to see how people leaves 600 years ago this is the place to be. The visit is around 2 hours long and I recommend you see entire place. Nice Apocalypse stamp , nice story , I was impressed by what people can do 600-700 years ago.
George D — Google review
An unexpected gem of a castle! Extensive ramparts. Amazing views. Very well-preserved and presented areas, with interesting historical information. Well worth a visit!
Máire K — Google review
Fantastic chateau, a must visit, super castle, lots of history, well maintained, good value entry. Tapestry is a must see.!!
James B — Google review
There is so much to see and learn in this castle with huge walls. Already, the Romans and Gallic tribes (mainly the Andecavi) had settlements at this place. The Romans called it Juliomagus . The Counts of Anjou built a first stone fortification in the 9th century, which was expanded and beautified in the next centuries. You should visit the former palace and large chapel first as there is an exhibition on the background of the large tapestry in the special building. There is information on the apocalyptic times when the tapestry was made, how it was made, and much more. The Tapestry of the Apocalypse is a masterpiece of medieval art woven from died wool with 25 different colours. Originally, it measured 140 x 6 meters, of which 103 meters survived and is on display. It tells the story of the final book of the New Testament, the Revelations by Saint John. The tapestry is divided into sections of 2x7 scenes with a larger image preceeding a section of a figure reading the Apocalypse. You follow the scenes in each section from top left to right and then from bottom left to right. There are remarkable details in the scenes, so you take your time to appreciate it all. Furthermore, there are some nice gardens on the walls where you can also have a panoramic view of the castle and the city

Zoo de la Flèche, located in the Loire Valley, is a top-notch zoo in France that houses around 1,200 animals. The zoo's innovative viewing windows allow visitors to observe the animals up close in environments that replicate their natural habitats. One of its unique features is the accommodation options that overlook animal enclosures, providing guests with an extraordinary experience. Visitors can stay overnight and enjoy watching the animals from their lodges, such as those overlooking Arctic wolves or grizzly bears.
Beautiful zoo. Clean and contented looking animals. We enjoyed the informative shows. We are on holiday from the UK but would return and recommend it.
Diane S — Google review
A large zoo that takes a whole day to go round. The lodges are excellent with close-up views of your chosen animal. The upgraded meals are very good and worth the extra cost. The only downside was the animals in a lot of the enclosures are able to hide very effectively.
John M — Google review
Deserving of the accolades Zoo de la Flèche offers excellent exhibits with enclosures that feel appropriate for the animals—plenty of space and enrichment, and you can see that the animals are well cared for. None of the cramped, depressing enclosures you sometimes see elsewhere. Food options are very good. If you can, head for the main cafeteria rather than the snack kiosks; there’s a wider selection and better quality. Just be prepared to queue if you don’t arrive before midday. Highlights of our visit included the grizzly bears—my four-year-old loved the bear cave and could have played there all day. The seal show was a lot of fun (try to get a seat in the shade for the best experience on hot days), and the bird of prey free-flight exhibit was top notch. All in all, a fantastic day out. Highly recommended.
Martin B — Google review
A very large, beautiful and green zoo, with lots of animals in good health. The star attractions (apart from the polar bear, grizzly bears, seals, jaguarundi) are animal spectacles that are not to be missed, especially the magnificent bird show. Don't be late for the bird spectacles, as the gate is closed as soon it starts. The zoo personnels are great and take the welfare of the animals to heart, which is great to see. There are toilets scattered around the very large zoo. The zoo is kids-friendly (stroller-friendly), with several playgrounds scattered in the zoo as well as several snacks shops, picnic areas and one big restaurant. One thing to pay attention to is that the wooden boards may be a bit slippery on rainy days. We visited during the school holiday, so the queue to enter the zoo was expectedly long, so I would recommend to buy the entrance ticket online. In overall, we had a wonderful time at the zoo and would happily go back!
Angeline T — Google review
Amazing place to stay for a weekend. Lodges are really well decorated and you have a unique view from your bedroom. We were lucky to have the white lions close to us during the stay.
Julien D — Google review
Wonderful zoo about an hour from the Loire valley. Best part is they have lodges over looking the animals. We stayed at the artic wolves. I thought maybe we'd see them once. Pleasantly surprised they came several times. We sat on the veranda to eat the provided dinner and they came right to the window. The animal enclosures at the zoo were very large and landscape well so that if they animals wanted to stay hidden they could.
Winter B — Google review
My son and I drove about 40 minutes to check out this zoo. We have been to many in America, and this may be our favorite of all time. The enclosures were large for all the animals, but had sufficient viewing areas for guests. On a hot day, we really appreciated how much shade there was.

The Museum of the 24 Hours of Le Mans is a captivating showcase of the prestigious history of the Le Mans car race. With over 120 vehicles on display, including 40 race-cars that have competed in the event, this museum offers an immersive experience for enthusiasts and casual visitors alike. The collection features iconic cars like the Porsche 919, Moby Dick, and Mazda 787B. Visitors can also enjoy audiovisual displays and learn about various drivers and teams associated with the race.
Very cool museum experience, an incredible archive of automotive legends laid out very thoughtfully. We pre purchased tickets and went on a weekday afternoon and it was very quiet and enjoyable. You can appreciate all the decades of racing as you walk through the displays. Free parking across the street, the walk of the track you can probably live without unless you are a hardcore enthusiast, the museum is very cool.
J K — Google review
There is a temporary display of 10 cars ONLY. The ticket costs 8 Euros for 10 min temporary museum. They said they are working on a renovation during the summer, but of course they still charge the same exact amount as a normal day ticket. So save yourself the driving experience and just watch the photos here. THAT'S ALL. The receptionist were friendly and told us it would take 30 min. But honestly everything could be seen in 5-10 min only.
Al T — Google review
We visited the museum during an especially long red flag at the 24 hours of Le Mans race (at around midnight). An excellent decision given the rich history within the museum. It covers historical fact about some of the great names in the sport (Ford, Ferrari, Bugatti, Ickx). Shows antique cars/vehicles with some history of the development of automobiles in Europe, and then of course, decades of actual cars and championship cars from the races themselves. We could have spent more time just gazing into the vehicles and enjoying the atmosphere, but the race was restarting. This would be an awesome place to visit on a non race day just to wander and look.
Graham T — Google review
While I don't typically follow sports cars or the Le Mans tour, this museum's uniqueness is undeniable. It's packed with incredible sporting cars, showcasing vehicles from the 24h Le Mans and other races. I found it truly amazing and well worth the visit.

A dream come true for any motorsport fan! The museum is a treasure trove of Le Mans history, showcasing legendary cars and the evolution of the iconic 24-hour race. However, I’d recommend contacting the museum beforehand—sometimes there are track days, and general visitors may not be allowed on the track, only in the museum. Plan ahead to make the most of your visit!

Our Lady of Chartres Cathedral, a towering 13th-century Gothic masterpiece, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most renowned cathedrals in France. Its construction began in 1194 after an earlier cathedral was destroyed by fire. The cathedral's significance is tied to a miraculous event during the fire, which led to its intention of being one of the finest churches globally.
Absolutely beautiful inside and out and definitely worth a visit. You can spend half a day just exploring the cathedral itself but if you get tired, the restaurants just outside are also excellent and reasonably priced too. I can also highly recommend staying until after dark for the free Chartres Illuninaire show which projects a light and sounds show on various buildings throughout the town, including the cathedral itself. Better yet, have a stay for a few days as it's a beautiful place itself.
Colin M — Google review
Unbelievably beautiful cathedral! Have seen quite a few in my lifetime but this one was special. Beautifully restored and not too busy. Loved the inside even more than the outside.
Arnout M — Google review
If you are only in Chartres for a few hours spend them visiting the incredible and Architecturally astounding Cathedral. Being the first UNESCO awarded and supported further by the volume of original stain glass. If able to stay for the evening the light show on and around this Cathedral and the surrounding Chartres centre is highly recommended.
J P — Google review
Beautiful cathedral of Chartres. They made beautiful renovations, everything is really clear and neat. Even with clouds and no sunshine, the inside is bright enough to see through the painted glasses of the windows. They are marvelous piece of art. If you have the chance to be in the area, you should take the time to walk there and look for yourself how gigantic and stunning it is. What actually surprised me the most is how modern they are inside. They have contactless payment card machine for donation at each corner of the cathedral. So if you don't have coins like me, you can still use your card to pay to lit a candle or novena. The hours of the priest are written on a card board inside. The confessional is brightly litten and has a priest waiting inside for anyone who wants to confess theirs sins. This is unseen for me before today in France. There is also a treasury room which you have to pay to access it. Overall a great place to visit. I advise to park your car at the parking lot of Cathedral. There almost non existant place to park there.
Anne-Cécile — Google review
Magnificent, historic, surrounded by lots of cafes, bars, restaurants and shops and not flooded with tourists when we visited. Chartres is an utterly beautiful city well worth a couple of days of your time. BEWARE, the cathedral is atop a hell of a climb up through steeply sloped streets.
Keith B — Google review
An excellent holy place in the heart of Chartres, our lady of Chartres Cathedral is a must visit. You can visit during the day for prayer and tourism and during the night for an exquisite laser show. Enjoy...
Dr C — Google review
One of the greatest High Gothic cathedrals now reinvented with its controversial very light painting of the pillars and vaulted ceilings… it grew on me as we walked round, I concluded it’s wonderful not least by setting off the magical 13th C stained glass. We love the way it feels it’s still an active place of worship, not the case in all French cathedrals.
Andrew E — Google review
A beautiful cathedral that easily rivals the Paris equivalent. We were lucky to visit at a time where it was illuminated at night. Very impressive. However if you're visiting the crypt, make sure you are told correctly where the tour starts, as we were given wrong instructions and therefore missed it. Staff could have been more helpful here.

The Museum of Impressionism Giverny, located in the village of Giverny, is a small art museum that focuses on the history and significance of the Impressionist movement. It is open from March to November and offers collections and exhibitions dedicated to this influential artistic period. The museum provides insight into the importance of Impressionism for French and world art.
It's a wonderful place to visit. You'll definitely spend about two hours there, exploring the gardens and museum. It's definitely a great trip idea. However, the store prices were very high, which was very disappointing. I only managed to buy three postcards. Still, it was a wonderful experience.
Şimal D — Google review
Wonderful gardens, well worth a visit - however, immensely crowded, there is no limit to the number of people allowed in. Nearby are a few nice restaurants. Also the Museum of Impressionism (separate ticket). The line to enter Monet's house was too long, but we've seen it before. We prefer more time in the gardens, which in late May when we visited, were bursting with color.
Joel D — Google review
Nice museum, not a lot of Impressionism but mainly related artwork and contemporary influenced art. It’s worth the detour if you have the time. Don’t be sad to skip it. Best is the garden flower arrangements. The staff is friendly and helpful. The museum is often empty
B R — Google review
Great collection. Perfectly sized. It’s about an hour to go around all the pieces and take them in. Plus, you can go for a walk around the connected gardens. We bought an ice cream outside and went around the lawn, very pleasant.
Stuart M — Google review
It was really less than I expected. But it is a neat and good place for lovers of impressionist art. The staff was very professional and courteous. Overall, I recommend visiting and shopping at the museum store.

Fantastic Air Conditioning! Clean bathrooms! Cute boutique. Modern building! Uhhh...the art is also interesting. They have lesser known American impressionists and contemporary art. But mostly, it's quiet, cool, and a respite from the hordes at Claude Monet's house down the block.

Fondation Monet in Giverny is a must-visit for art enthusiasts and nature lovers. It encompasses Claude Monet's charming house, ornate gardens, and the artist's studio adorned with Japanese prints. The Musee des Impressionnismes Giverny, which recently celebrated its 10th anniversary, offers a romantic and surprising artistic journey. Visitors can explore exhibitions showcasing the museum's collections and American landscape artists' work during the French Impressionist period.
It was a beautiful visit! The lily pond in early October was not as stunning as in the summer time when I had first visited here. But it was probably less crowded. What an inspiring place! The town has certainly become more popular with visitors, though.
June J — Google review
Monet's house and Gardens were a must see on my trip to France. We were just there a few weeks ago (late September) and the gardens were lush and absolutely stunning. We had entry tickets at 12pm and didnt have to wait. It was a great time of year to visit, we got a mix of very colorful flowers, autumn changes starting but also a good amount of water lilies that had bloomed. Really stunning. We walked into the town of Giverny after walking through the house and gardens and it was such a quaint town. We stopped at the Giverny chocolat shop, very good! Highly recommend a stop in Giverny!
Trina H — Google review
Always wanted to visit and I wasn't disappointed. Even in mid October, the gardens are still beautiful with many flowers in bloom. The lily pond had a bit of scum on but still pretty. The house is lovely. So many original photos and paintings, though few of Monet's. Then of course there is the shop. Lots of lovely gifts and books. Plenty of free parking with free overnight campervan parking nearby.

Visiting Claude Monet’s house has been my dream, and it finally came true. The place is truly stunning and incredibly captivating from a design perspective. Every detail is beautifully crafted, and the colors are chosen to perfection. The garden is well-kept and absolutely gorgeous, with the iconic lily pond I had always wanted to see - simply remarkable. The entire estate is so well maintained, and being there felt like touching something truly sublime.
Alina S — Google review
We stopped here on our way to Normandy from Paris and were amazed at all the blooming flowers in late September. Monet’s house was a quaint cottage with beautiful views of the gardens. The restaurant food was delicious and the server was wonderful. Highly recommend it!
Ellen A — Google review
I don't know where to start! The house is a piece of art the gardens are pieces of art, the whole town is cute! Absolutely beautiful. Things that should be considered, how to get there, the season, the crowd, so that you know what to expect,I've been there twice, in June it was super hot super crowded but beautiful, and in October , chill weather less crowded, less flowers but the trees were magical
Fatin A — Google review
It was quite crowded for a rainy October day. I think it's quite difficult to get there in the summer. When you get off the train from Paris, you have two transportation options: a shuttle and a bus that resembles a children's train. Both cost 10 euros. I don't think the shuttle bus runs between 1:20 and 3:20, so keep that in mind when planning your return train. Monet's extensive Japanese collection was quite striking. The interior was quite colorful. If you don't plan to spend much time taking photos and want to explore the village, 3-3.5 hours is more than enough. There's an interesting mechanical museum in Giverny, open from 2 pm to 6 pm. Time your visit accordingly for a more enjoyable trip. Other than that, it's a typical European village.
Zeynep — Google review
Absolutely beautiful but very very crowded. The gardens are very easy to walk with wonderful displays of flowers. The lake is spectacular The house is easy to navigate and quite lovely we had approximately a 15 min queue to enter. I would advise you to buy tickets on line before hand the queues for tickets were massive. We got on line tickets so had no wait time. Parking is plentiful and free. There's a good choice of restaurants and cafes just outside the gardens they are quite pricey.

Thoiry ZooSafari is a unique destination that offers a combination of zoo, safari tours, world farm, maze, play areas and a castle with gardens. Visitors can enjoy a beautiful day out observing well-cared-for animals in spacious enclosures. The zoo features an array of animals, some of which may be unfamiliar to many visitors. There are shaded areas and picnic tables available for relaxation. The zoo also boasts playgrounds and entertainment options suitable for visitors of all ages.
We had a wonderful family day at Safari Thoiry with our two-year-old! We started with the safari by car, which was a fantastic experience. Getting to see the animals up close was amazing, and our daughter loved every moment. The safari took about an hour since there were quite a few cars, but the wait was worth it. Afterward, we explored the zoo on foot, but we found ourselves a bit too tired to cover everything. Despite this, we still managed to see a wide range of animals, which kept our little one thrilled. However, we’d recommend breaking up the visit if possible because it’s challenging to do both the safari and zoo in one day and really take it all in. Overall, it was a memorable experience, and we’d definitely recommend it to families, but with the advice to pace yourselves or consider splitting it into two visits if possible!

Well, it is not that good and not that bad. But nothing fun there, animals are sleepy/tired. Restaurants are expensive, so it is better to bring food with you. Go in the morning so you can visit the park on foot then by car at the same day. Peace!

Thoiry is undoubtedly the best zoo I've ever visited! I brought along my 2-year-old and 5-year-old, and we all had an absolutely fantastic time. The hyena and lion areas stand out with tunnels that allow you to walk through their habitats under a glass covering, providing an incredible view of the animals. Thoiry offers several playgrounds and a massive rope/trampoline/climbing area that entertained all of us, including my 75-year-old mother. What's remarkable is the spacious enclosures for each animal, which are meticulously designed to replicate their local habitats, setting it apart from zoos in the US. Though we missed the drive-through experience, we explored the entire zoo and will return during our next trip to France. I highly recommend Thoiry, especially if you have kids!
Elizabeth N — Google review
I am not a big fan of zoos bit we took our 7yr old. This is a good zoo. The layout is very nice. They have a lot of interesting species that I had never seen, also tunnels through the feline enclosures. And a drive through “safari.” It’s all a bit small but very tidy, very nice. It always breaks my heart to see the gorillas bored to death. The kids games a great. The food is absolutely disgusting, bring a picnic lunch.
James J — Google review
Beautiful day out seeing animals who looked well cared and had proper spaces cared of to live in. Lots of animals, some of them we never saw before. It is amazing to see so many of them. Lots of shadow in the zoo. Playground in the middle. Picnic tables available. We arrived at the opening and left just before the closure - plan the whole day there!! Started with walking through the zoo and finished off with the car safari - great idea as we were happy to sit down at that point!

Cathédrale Sainte-Croix d'Orléans

Sights & Landmarks
Cathédrale Sainte-Croix d'Orléans, located in the Old Town's Place Sainte-Croix square, is a significant religious building with Gothic-Neoclassical architecture. It is closely associated with Joan of Arc and features stunning stained glass windows depicting her life. The cathedral stands as a testament to the rich history of Orleans, housing relics and artworks from centuries past.
Beautiful large church with a long and eventful history. A first church was built here in the 7th century, replaced by a number of churches in the following centuries, who were all destroyed by fire, war, and the last one by Protestants in 1568. The church you see now is the result of centuries of construction that started in 1601 by King Henry IV. There is a strong connection to Joan of Arc as she prayed in the previous church when Orleans was under siege and after it was liberated on May 8th, 1429. Every year around May 8th, there are celebrations in town marking the liberation, which coincides with the end of WW2

Amazing! The outside and interior are incredibly beautiful. I'm not religious, but I love visiting churches and cathedrals, and this is a MUST visit!! The statues and wooden sculptures are amazing and there are many different saints and holy idols to look at. The small shop sells rosaries and small crosses, along with postcards and wristbands. Didn't buy anything, but that's just 'cause I was too scared to talk french with the seller lol.

In the heart of Old Orléans stands the mighty Sainte-Croix Cathedral. Amazingly, it gives me the impression of a lighter, almost floating structure compared to the more powerful Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris. Long and bright inside, generous in its dimensions, impressive in its details, well-preserved and well-maintained. I was immediately drawn to the light and dark colored floor tiles. Centuries of history were written here. In 1492, Saint Jeanne d'Arc walked through the mighty gate, on this floor, to the choir, where I also walked over it. I was touched by this thought and felt a certain power. Just at the very moment I was sitting on a bench to relax, the giant organ started playing, mightily roaring and furious! Could there be more history telling in a cathedral than at this moment?
Adrian B — Google review
Just grand. Renovated inside a few yrs ago. A jewel of Orleans to be sure to visit. Parking and kids play ground literally next to it but keep your parking ticket with or you won't be able to get back in the elevator to get back to the car underground. (They do not have signage warning you of this. Cathedrale closes,at 7pm.

Orléans Cathedral (Basilique Cathédrale Sainte-Croix d'Orléans). Another new one for me, from our recent holiday all over France. It was badly damaged in World War 2, both by the Germans and the Allies. Thoroughly restored, but my honest opinion is that it felt a little sterile. Well worth seeing of course. The next one I'm posting was a much more - to me anyway - beautiful building. Watch this space...!

Beautiful Cathedral. A bit touristy and therefore not very quiet.

Grotte de Marie-Antoinette

Marie Antoinette's Grotto, located within the private country village of Marie Antoinette, offers a unique glimpse into the life of the infamous queen. Visitors can explore the Petit Trianon and Trianon Palaces for a taste of pared-down elegance and witness the Queens Apartment, including the bed chamber where 19 royal children were born.
My favourite place when visiting the estate of Versailles. I visited the Palace of Versailles the Grand Trianon the Petit Trianon and finally Marie Antoinette’s hamlets. It really brings you into a different world and allows you to get a feeling of the more bucolic life outside of the blinding grandeur of the Palace of Versailles. The aesthetic coherency was so satisfying.

My friend and I originally went to the Versailles gardens with no intention to go tour the Trianon. However, when she said she loved Marie Antoinette I immediately searched how far it was and realized it was just a walk away. We only intended to see Marie Antoinette’s Cottage but instead we got a wonderful tour of the Trianon and don’t regret it at all. It was wonderful!

This place was beautiful! If you are going to Versailles you should definitely check this place out as well. The gardens are well kept and lovely. It's a quaint picture of farm living filled with hidden gems.

This was one of my favorite stops on the bike tour we took of Versailles. Marie Antoinette's little play village. It reminds me a lot of Disney. A pretend-land.

This is not a hoax and it does exist (see my photos). Most likely it is a constructed cave and the museum has one light in there so you can see what it looks like. It is hard find but you can do it using Google Maps. You will see some primitive paths where GPS has taken others to find it. There is a more formal trail built by the museum but it is hard to find the entrance for it. After all of that, there really isn't much to see. The most interesting thing to me is that Marie A. was interested in grotto's at all.

This is very out of the way but 1,000% worth it. I walked around to avoid paying the stupid garden ticket. The garden was barren. Why would I pay to look at a large under construction garden?

Worth a short walk from the Versailles castle or even the Hop on Hop off Bus out to visit this place.

better take some bicycle or rented car available in the palace to go yo this grotto..after walking in gardens till the end you wont have patience or interest to visit this grotto or maries estate

Hall of Mirrors

The Hall of Mirrors is a lavish 17th-century gallery located in the Chateau de Versailles, designed by Jules Hardouin-Mansart. This ornate hall features arched mirrors, chandeliers, oil paintings, and gilded sculptures, creating a grand atmosphere for royal celebrations and masked balls.
Hall of Mirrors is the most famous and beautiful room of Versailles palace. It runs along the palace main wing on the first floor overlooking the gardens. It is lavishly decorated in mirrors (as the name says), gilded statues and marvelous chandeliers. Beside its beauty the room is known as the place where the peace treaty was signed ending the WWI. We've been lucky being there on a cloudy Jan day just before the closing time with very few people, having it almost to ourselves (see the pics)

An excellent example of art of opulence, and how it's blending of the paintings, frescoes, sculptures, and mirrors makes this a grand section of the palace. Word of advice, go to the far end of the hall to get a better photo opportunity

It was magnificent. I didn't know where to look because each part was breathtaking. It was the most crowded room after the king's chamber.

An absolutely breathtaking masterpiece and one of the highlights of the entire Palace of Versailles. The Galerie des Glaces is even more impressive in person than in photos: the sparkling chandeliers, the endless mirrors, the gilded decorations, and the light pouring in from the gardens create a truly unforgettable atmosphere. Walking through the hall feels like stepping straight into the heart of French royal history. A bit of history & curiosities: • The Hall of Mirrors was completed in 1684 under Louis XIV, the Sun King. • It was designed by architect Jules Hardouin-Mansart and decorated by Charles Le Brun, the king’s favorite artist. • At the time, mirrors were extremely rare and expensive. Filling an entire hall with them was both a political message and a symbol of France’s economic power, proving that French craftsmanship could rival and surpass Venice, the world’s leading mirror producer. • The hall served as the main stage for royal ceremonies, diplomatic receptions, and major court events. • One of the most important events in world history took place here: the signing of the Treaty of Versailles in 1919, which ended World War I. • The hall is 73 meters long and reflects the gardens through its 17 windows, creating a unique play of light that was revolutionary for its time.

Nothing prepares you for the Hall of Mirrors. You step in and it’s pure gold, light, and grandeur — a place so over-the-top it almost feels unreal. The chandeliers catch the daylight pouring in from the arched windows, reflecting across 357 mirrors. And that ceiling? A heavenly opera of painted glory and divine ego. I had seen a million photos of it before visiting, but standing inside it hits different. It’s not just a room, it’s a statement — about wealth, power, ambition, and the sheer audacity of French Baroque.

Nice mirrors, terrible hospitality — they made my buddies (Müller and Bell) sign some papers here...another friend of them with cute mustache didn't like it and joined politics in Germany..!
Nitesh — Google review
The Hall of Mirrors has seen so much. It was where the Treaty of Versailles, that ended WWI and arguably started WWII was signed. It was where the German Empire started in 1871. It was where Kim and Kanye hosted their rehearsal dinner here back in 2014, arguably the most important historical event that took place here to date. The thing that stuck with me the most though on the tour here, was when the mob of peasants marched on the Palace of Versailles in 1789 and saw themselves for the first time in these mirrors. Obviously they had seen their reflections in bodies of water here and there, but this had to be the first time they’d really got a good look at themselves. That just completely blew my mind. It sent me into a full existential crisis. It got me thinking about life back then compared to now. What would life be like if we could never see ourselves? Probably much better. We’d never really worry about whether we look good or not. I’d get so much time back in the day. Could be way more productive. But then I realized I’d more than likely be a peasant, getting shafted by the French government left and right. You’d only know what they want you to know. You’d just be busting your ass on the farm all day, giving loot to the government and getting damn near nothing in return. But maybe I’d be happier? Life was so much simpler… and I am happiest in the simple times, when I’m not worried about what I could be doing to push my tech sales career forward. Who knows. I go back and forth all day. I’m eternally grateful to be born at the time I am, but maybe I’d be happier with life being so much simpler? Everything involves some sort of sacrifice. See what the Hall of Mirrors did to me? Sent me down this crazy spiral smh. IG @johnny.novo Tiktok @jnov__ Substack @johnnynovo

Palace of Versailles

The Palace of Versailles, also known as Chateau de Versailles, is an immense 18th-century palace adorned with gilded apartments and the famous Hall of Mirrors. The palace's indoor spaces are intricately linked to its gardens, all designed to glorify the monarch. Construction began in 1661 and was completed by 1682, with subsequent revisions made by French monarchs over the centuries.
This palace is iconic and a must visit while visiting Paris! This palace is so grand and huge that you start to understand why the French Revolution took off while walking around. This palace is very magnificent and gorgeous. There is so much detail put into the architecture, the paintings, garden, and rooms. You should buy tickets ahead of time while coming here and plan to spend the majority of your day here. Be aware of the massive crowds, they can be really big and you may feel like a packed sardine in some of the rooms here.

We went to see Palace of Versailles as a group. The place is beautiful. The gardens are equally impressive and massive; renting a golf. We rented a golf cart, it was well worth the money to explore comfortably. We made reservations in advance, we waited around 20–30 minutes to get inside. Everything was impressive. The negative part is the crown inside. But once in the garden it was so much better.

This was one of the most impressive places I have seen with my own eyes! I have a landscape engineering degree and the palace gardens were often referred to in books, by teachers and were always a source of inspiration. I’m really glad I got to see them in real life. My partner proposed on a boat on the canal, it was all very romantic (I said yes!). The palace interior and expositions were also quite impressive, I was in awe the whole time.

Absolutely stunning palace with a fascinating history. Highly recommend Stephanie from Paris to versailles. We booked via Viator. She was amazing, amusing and speaks multiple languages. Also recommended getting a golf cart to see the gardens and time it to see a fountain operating. Times are on Versailles site but Stephanie organised it perfectly. The fountains do not operate during colder months due to freezing pipes. Gardens close too. See my photos for golf cart hire location. The gardens would look better in spring but that’s the joy of the first ever formal garden- stunning all year round. Take your license. The most amusing part of our visit was all of the TikTokers and Instagramers. So self indulgent and very very funny.

The castle itself is amazing too, but this time it was the Versailles Opera. Small venue, but that makes it cozy and beautiful. The services in terms of infrastructure, such as the cloakroom and buffet, are minimal, only one of each. Not too good for the crowd; expect lines and queues. The rest is wonderful and beautiful as expected.

This Palace was truely beautiful and I highly recommend. As a group of four we did the tour and saw 12 rooms out of the 2,300 and a bit of history with the tour. They were very good with safety and supportive to English. You could get the tour in several languages and the rooms were amazing. Very beautiful, only downside is its huge populatarity so it was quite overcrowded considering it's Autum/Winter here in France. Good option for a tourist. Very pretty. Merci beaucoup.

We spent about a day and a half exploring Versailles and absolutely loved it. Here are a few tips that might make your visit smoother: The Passport ticket is the best value since it gives you access to everything — the main palace, gardens, and both the Grand and Petit Trianon. I had originally bought tickets just for the Trianons, but discovered you also need Musical Gardens tickets to walk through the gardens to get there. Otherwise, you’d have to walk all the way around the perimeter and hope to find an open gate. Get an audio guide or download one on your phone since the signs are in French. The guided tours start around 9:30 a.m. — just check the language. I mistakenly booked the Private Apartments tour in French but used the Google Translate app to follow along (it worked surprisingly well, though it uses a lot of data). The tour meets in the Ministers’ Building to the right of the main entrance, up the stairs. After our tour, the audio guide line was over 30 minutes long, so get it first thing in the morning. Later in the day, around 4 p.m., the crowds thinned out and there was no line. If you have limited time, start with the Grand Trianon and Petit Trianon. They’re smaller, more personal, and give you a sense of royal life away from the main palace. The Grand Trianon was the king’s retreat; the Petit Trianon, Marie Antoinette’s, is charmingly modest. It’s about a 30–45 minute walk through the gardens, or you can take the tram for a small fee. The gardens are enormous — we walked about 6 to 9 miles. You’ll see manicured trees, fountains, statues, and even a lake with boats. On certain days, the Musical Gardens feature classical music playing from hidden speakers, adding a lovely atmosphere. Bring a hat and water. There are some restaurants and a bathroom, but there can be a very long line. If possible, take a guided tour — it gives you access to areas not open to general visitors, like the King’s private study, reception rooms, and the beautiful royal chapel (where general admission visitors can only peek in from the doorway). Plan for a lot of walking and wear comfortable shoes. There are golf carts you can rent by the hour to cover more of the garden than by foot. Versailles is vast, breathtaking, and full of history — an unforgettable experience well worth taking the time to explore fully.

The Versailles Castle is a beautiful building with stunning views but if you only have a little time in Paris this is not a must see. The inside has some stunning rooms with beautiful furniture and paintings. The view of the garden from the second floor is exceptional. The gardens and lakes are a really good choice if you’re visiting with your family. The only downside of the palace are the giant crowds in the rooms and by the toilets, so you have to be patient. The tickets were about 60€ for adults and 0€ for children (Attention! The garden is not free for children, it’s 10€)
