The best city to stay and hike in the Dolomites! Buy a 6 days Val Gardena pass and you can hike most of the trails in this area! Parking is limited and the best way to stay here is by public transportation. I visited here 5 tomes already and in the past three times , I visited here by public transportation!
I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to this stunning city. It's calm, clean, and surrounded by breathtaking mountains—one reaching 2,005 meters. A cable car takes you to the top of Sëuc Mountain, while another leads to the majestic Seceda. The city center is filled with charming restaurants and beautiful churches that add to its serene atmosphere. Words truly fall short in capturing its beauty. For a peaceful experience, I highly recommend walking across the pedestrian bridge on the way to the Sëuc cable car station. It’s a perfect spot to reflect, take in the views, and feel completely at ease.
Ortisei is one of those cities that seem to have come out of an alpine fairy tale. With its colourful architecture, pedestrian streets full of wooden craft shops and landscapes of grandiose mountains around, it is simply charming.
The city is at 1,236 m altitude and is surrounded by iconic peaks such as Seceda and Sassolungo, providing stunning scenery from its centre. In addition, Ortisei works very well as a base for easy or more challenging trails, with easy access to cable cars and the Alpe di Siusi.
Ortisei valgardena !is beautiful but often overcrowded it’s a famous spot surrounded by gorgeous mountains that are definitely worth visiting. However, there are also plenty of less-crowded places to explore.
On my way back, I discovered Trentino a true gem in the Alps! Especially the Vigolana Monte Bondone with panorama view with Brenta Dolomites area, where nature feels pure and peaceful. The best part? You can easily visit both regions it’s only about 1 hour and 30 minutes from Trento to Ortisei. Accommodations in Trentino are fantastic and reasonably priced you don’t need to take out a mortgage to stay in beautiful places! From here, you can also easily visit the South Tyrol region. As a vlogger, I always like to keep an open mind and have options 💚🌱🍃Trentino truly offers that balance of beauty, comfort, and value. Now if you want and can !Ortisei is so fancy 💚great restaurant's very clean town ,is a great place to stay as well .
Amazing mountain town, we loved it here even more than Cortina!
Beautiful and charming village in the heart of the Dolomites. Huge range of accommodation available. Could be busy in summer, but in autumn, when we visited, crowds were a little quieter and the autumn colours were spectacular.

We were given tickets as part of the public transport system. I'm glad we had time to use the tickets. The cable car was an amazing experience to explore the upper region. At the top there is a short train ride, which showed us an excellent view and experience from a living in the mountains point of view.

Located just 10 min walk from the city center the cable car is one way of reaching Soprabolzano.
The views from the ride are spectacular amd it takes roughly 12 min one way.
One way ticket is 8 euros and if you buy the return you need to use it the same day, it cannot be used another day.
If you are planning to get the scenic small train from Soprabolzano , make sure to mention this when buying the ticket so they will give you a combined o ne.
You can either take the stairs to the 2nd level or the elevator. There is a coffee shop right next to it and a supermarket as well. Once you get on top you will find a bar / icecream shop in the area and a Despar amd Mpreis supermarkets.
Very busy usually in the weekends
I have mixed feelings about this cable car. The first part of the experience was bad. There is a pretty long line and the stuffed too many people into one cart. However the view from this cable car is absolutely amazing.
It first goes up and the has a long horizontal ride that seems like it was designed just so you can enjoy the view longer. Too bad we had such little personal space to enjoy the view.
The queue for the ride can be really long on a weekend, especially at 12pm. Be patient and dont join the queue. Just go for a lunch first till 1pm and the will be no wait needed to get a ride up. The long and smooth ride offers a great view between bolzano and suprabolzano.
The cable car (Funivia) takes you from Bolzano to Oberbozen (Sopra Bolzano). It's a 25 minute smooth ride with incredible and breathtaking views. The capacity is around 20 people at a time. Very recommended if in Bolzano.
Awesome way to go waaay up while using the same Mobil Card that we use for trains/buses in the region. No waiting time, smooth trip up and down and spectacular views all around!
Beautiful views! Nice restaurant and bar and a playground for kids. There are several hikes available as well.
Supranolzano is a magical place and so is this route to it. We had gotten a free Südtirol pass from our Agriturismo hosts and therefore this trip and the train trips were free!

Bolzano is one of those places that gets under your skin—a strange and beautiful collision of Italy and the Alps. German precision meets Italian charm, all wrapped in cobblestone streets, Gothic arcades, and the smell of good coffee drifting out of corner cafés. It’s a city where you can order a perfect espresso in the morning, a plate of speck and mountain cheese by noon, and a bottle of local Gewürztraminer by dinner.
We grabbed a quick bite at a café across the street before heading in—sitting outside while small birds darted between tables, bold enough to hope for crumbs. Then we crossed over to see why most people come here: Ötzi. The South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology sits in a stately old building at the edge of the pedestrian zone, and inside is one of the most haunting encounters you can have without boarding a plane to somewhere far more dangerous. Three floors take you from prehistoric tools to Roman relics, winding you closer to the reason everyone’s here: a 5,300-year-old man pulled from the ice, along with the tools, clothes, and gear he carried when death found him in the high mountains.
The displays are sharp and modern, with just the right balance of science and story. There’s his copper axe, his grass cape, his last meal still in his stomach. The lifelike reconstruction of Ötzi by the Kennis brothers is unsettling in the best possible way—suddenly this isn’t just a skeleton in a glass case, it’s a person who woke up one morning not knowing it would be his last.
What makes the place work is its restraint. No gimmicks, no cheap drama—just good storytelling and the quiet, unnerving truth of seeing someone who lived and died in the same mountains you can see out the window.
Bolzano does that—it folds the past and present together until you can’t quite tell where one ends and the other begins.

As a physiotherapist, I feel it’s important to highlight that some of the information presented about Ötzi’s ailments and pain is factually incorrect—not just technically inaccurate but clearly and potentially harmfully wrong.
Specifically, the exhibit makes claims about osteoarthritis and other health conditions that go beyond what the evidence supports. It is not scientifically valid to infer pain based solely on imaging findings of “degenerative” changes or age-related adaptations. These types of findings are extremely common in healthy people—many of whom experience no pain at all.
Presenting such changes as definitive sources of pain reinforces outdated and misleading beliefs about the human body. This can contribute to fear, over-medicalization, and unnecessary treatments in the general public, especially among people who already live with chronic pain or worry about their health.
Aside from the clearly documented issues—such as the arrow wound in his shoulder, the broken arm, and dental problems—any additional claims about Ötzi’s experience of pain are speculative at best and should be labeled as such.
Personally, I think those parts of the exhibit should be changed. I included some photos of the problematic texts.

We didn’t have a ticket in advance and so had to wait outside. It was annoying that the lady at the front couldn’t tell us how long the queue would be, luckily it was only a bit more than 20 minutes.
We visited on a tuesday afternoon mid September. Recommended to buy beforehand!
Inside there are also many school groups next to the general visitors so it is not calm or quiet.
An interesting museum dedicated to literally just one mummy. After viewing the exhibit, you realize how much information can be gleaned from such a find. My seven-year-old daughter was a bit scared; perhaps it's too early to see such exhibits. Tickets are inexpensive, but there's no parking. The restrooms are clean and comfortable. A significant amount of money has been invested in the museum; I recommend visiting.
Awesome museum! I have been interested in Otzi since he was pulled out of the ice, so when I was nearby I made sure to make a detour to Bolzano and the museum. You’re not allowed to take photos of Otzi himself as he is being preserved for research purposes. The images below show what they think Otzi would have looked like. One thing I found most interesting, (other than his acupuncture tattoos of course!) was his height - only 5 feet 3 inches. I had expected him to be taller, possibly because of my own biases, but possibly also owing to the nature of his life - mountain climbing and hunting while alone. Regardless, he was obviously a seriously brave guy. The museum dedicated to him is definitely worth a visit.

Amazing experience for beginners. The river is super clean and water is cold (perfect for hot summers). Our guide Lupa was extremely cordial and friendly, we had a lot of fun with her. The staff were very welcoming and helpful.
They even helped us plan our next hikes in the mountains after the rafting. Definitely recommended.

Had great interactions with all of the guides while we raced down the river. But our guide "carlo" was definitely the best, we made an great team.
It was so much fun, some adrenaline and wet shoes. The river was wild but not too wild, the water was nice and cool (we even went for an swim)

MUSE this place is very entertaining, educative with huge exhibition and activities. I was very surprised how interesting it actually was. Everything very organised and super clear, reception,help desk, souvenir shop, lockers, toilets, nice outside area, terrace, and exhibition zone. Plus they have this tropical area with plants where you can feel as in jungles. Completely different world. In exhibition throughout the floors you could see many animals geographical and historical facts. Touch cold ice and play multiple riddle kind of games, kids absolutely love those games. Either on screens or physical games. Simply impressive and everyone had A good good time. Would recommend anyone especially families with kids this place is specially for them. Would recommend to book in advance and get ready to spend there 2-3 hours.

The exterior looks promising but the interior and amount of content is fairly limited. In comparison the much older natural science museum in Bergamo is much more interesting and holds much more specimens. That’s being said, it’s still a good option for a rainy day.

Great place for kids, and adults too. 5 stories of natural/tech entertainment with plenty of interactive activities. You can easily spend 3h there. Booking in advance highly recommended, especially on peak season. Tickets are timeslotted, with entries every 30 mins or so. Tickets is pretty cheap and with family packages options.
Beautiful museum with lots of possibilities to learn about interconnection of nature and animals as well as impacts of day to day behavior on our ecosystem.

An excellent, medium-sized museum with a rich and diverse exhibition. It's sensibly arranged so you can explore it according to your needs—some sections in detail, others just for a quick glance. This is the most wonderful science museum I’ve ever visited. It has 5 floors of exhibitions and the last one is a terrace with great view. There is even a greenhouse with tropical plants, live birds, butterflies, fishes. There are a lot of activities for children, so they can learn, play and have fun in a museum. I love the whole idea and how it was executed. I highly recommend this museum both for children and adults.

Military route constructed in 1917 around & through an imposing rock face, with steep inclines.
This is a hike on muntains full of history and panoramic views. Absolutely recommend if you have willpower and physical condition for it. Not the easiest hike as first part of hike, about 7+ km up to rifugio Papa is all the way uphill. Some galleries are dark, so you need lamp. We did it with mobile phone flashlight. Also some galleries are steep with some slippery rocky steps, so be careful. We started to climb with 30 degrees heat and took 1 liter of water per person along. We drank it all. Temperature on the top of the mountain was much lower, under 20 degrees. The route back to start was downhill and rather easy 7 km walk by gravel road.

I hiked it at the end of June and it was easy and safe to walk throughout. It's dark inside the tunnels, so a handlamp is necessary. From the path, you can admire some truly wonderful landacapes. I highly recommed it.
A great hike with interesting history and amazing views. I went in early September at around 8am and it was rather busy but never too bad, easy to overtake others as the path was very wide. The path was rocky and unsteady, so good shoes are recommended. It was cool in the tunnels but some portions of the path were fully exposed so sun protection is important too. Pretty much all uphill but worth it. Instead of taking the same path down I went down Strada degli Scarubbi on the other side of the mountain which was slightly longer but much easier on the knees as it was a dirt/gravel trail and also offered great views (including little walks through the forest which was nice). Overall highly recommend. Not particularly difficult, just to try go early if it's hot and go at your own pace.plenty of places to sit at the Refugio or on the mountainside.
Spectacular trail through impressive war constructions. The longest gallery winds like a cork screwer through the solid rock for more than a hundred meter to overcome a steep gradient. Impressive engineering feature and magnificent landscape. Bring a torch !

Today we wanted to conquer the Strada delle 52 Gallerie. It started with a nice warm sun and ended with rain and thunder. The view is great. A bit of fitness is required.
This is a great treck with incredible views. There's paid parking available and as most strongly suggest, you will need either a flashlight or head torch as many of the tunnels are too dark to see in.
It was a great adventure. We did the hike on 25 October. The weather was still great (as it was projected by the meteo).

Only 2 kilometers, around 20 - 25 minutes from the parking. Nice hiking trails. Easy level. You can go further if you want to. Restaurant nearby is probably open only in summer. Some renovation of the trails right now. Completely empty mid-March.
Great place. If you on you motorcycle there is very nice road to go up to the very end of the path! 5€ FOR A BIKE! 15 km long next to river with lots of waterfals.
Since there had been plenty of rain, the Cascate was roaring like a freight train. Absolutely stunning.
It's a great place for a two hours to half day trip. At the entrance, we were charged 9 Euros for entering the second parking lot ( 7 Euros for the first parking lot)

Went here during the week, we bought tickets in advance so had no wait time to get entry. The best piece of this place is the views from the castle out to the lake and surrounding areas and offers some really good photo opportunities especially given the low ticket price. You need to go to the top of the tower but the space does get tighter the higher up you go so expect to wait for people to come down and go up etc. Would go here again.

It is a piece of history and worth a visit just for the view from the tower. There are special exhibitions in the castles main hall. When I was there, it was chanting mother's = video and sound playing mother's from different ethnicity singing lullabies to their babies, quite beautiful. From the tower, you'll get an awesome view of Malcesine and the surrounding areas, including the Garda Lake.
Castello Scaligero di Malcesine is absolutely fantastic and what a superb attraction and place to visit for only just €7.00 per adult.
This castle despite from the outside giving the perception of being small, is actually quite spacious once inside with plenty of different levels, rooms, towers and garden areas to explore.
Given its age, it is well preserved and its history is very well charted and presented as you work your way through the castle. The information is presented in several languages and incredibly well done as it gets all the key information over without drowning you in extensive detail.
This is a spectacular building setting out the historic challenges between Milan and the Venetians. The History of Lake Garda and Malcesine is also documented throughout the different displays.
As you’d imagine given its location, the views from the castle and especially the top of the main tower are just great. 360 degree views of the Italian Alps, Malcesine and Lake Garda are there to be enjoyed.
It would be criminal to come to Malcesine and not visit Castello Scaligero di Malcesine…. This place is an absolute must and you need to allow circa 2 hours to explore.
Beautiful views from here over the lake! You can explore all the terraces and climb up the tower but there is not really much to see on the inside apart from an art installation when we were there. Worth a visit though!
The castle is definitely worth a visit. From the top, you get a breathtaking view over the lake—absolutely stunning and perfect for photos. A great spot to explore history and enjoy the scenery at the same time.

Great views of mountains and Lake Garda. Cable cars are good. BUT, online booking didn't work so had to queue in blazing sun for 25 minutes and then join the main queue for a further hour and a half. I wouldn't bother going again.
Hiking with astonishing views on Garda Lake is amazing. Rout to Monte Baldo is not very hard but still demanding. Down is hot, up much colder. Not many tourists, no crowd. Only beautiful surroundings, nature and sun. 5 hours walk worth to make!
it is said - buy a ticket online - avoid the queue ! - but that is not true! - don’t bother! you enter the building and there is a queue for 2 hours! and everyone stands together - you can’t avoid queue at all! and it is super hot :( I do not recommend it in high season unless you have the whole day free and like waiting in a huge crowd:(
Great view over Lake Garda, you could take the cable car from Malcesine, or drive by car and then walk 30-45 min.
I loved the whole experience, went on a Monday and there weren’t lots of people so more fun and no queues incase you wanna go for biking, cable car or paragliding. Beautiful panoramic. I loved the cows 😆🥰

If you are a fan of the immortal story of two lovers, then you must visit Juliet's house. The house is constantly besieged by tourists, so think carefully about when you want to visit (preferably in the morning).
I personally like the collection of artworks in the house, and the original wall paintings are also impressive.
I recommend that everyone who visits the house also visit Romeo's home. It is completely overlooked, and only rarely do tourists stop at the memorial plaque on the site where his home once stood.
Still, this place has sadly lost some of its romance. The inner courtyard is flooded with crowds – noise, long lines to touch Juliet’s statue, and cameras flashing from every direction. There’s little real romance left; it feels more like a tourist ritual than a place of love.
The museum is interesting to visit, with Juliet’s statue and a few authentic details, but you’ll feel the true spirit of Verona much more while wandering through its charming streets than standing amidst the crowds.

Paying the ticket to see the house is much better than the experience outside. Even in low season was completely crowded to the point that the statue looked even nervous herself. This was a tourist trap. The balcony is way small and only 2 persons can fit. We did not visit the inside of the house because of the reviews on Google saying that it was nothing special. The yard was ok and we got to take pictures of the statue of Juliete and the wall of letters. There was a shop nearby that could costumise everything you wanted to by that was nice. The store inside the house has only overpriced magnets and pens for tourists.

From here you’ve got direct access to Juliet’s house, plus plenty of nice restaurants, narrow streets, and cafés all around. The atmosphere is fantastic – you could wander here all day.

This is a very cool historical adventure. The tour was worth the ticket price, the grounds are gorgeous, and we had the best time learning about the history of the owner and his life. Make sure you buy tickets at least the day before. And even if they say the tour is only available in Italian, they will provide information in other languages as well. Plan to spend about 3 hours exploring the grounds and touring the house.
Very nice place, but beware, there are LOTS OF STAIRS! So. Many. Stairs. Never-ending stairs. And even more stairs! I do not recommend anyone to try going here with a stroller, although my arm muscles probably doubled in size after lugging our stroller filled with food, drinks, and a one-year-old up and down the million stairs here. But otherwise, definitely well worth the visit, the views are beautiful, photogenic, and seeing a boat in the middle of an Italian hillside is very unusual! It wasn't overcrowded (September Sunday afternoon), and we got our tickets on the spot with no problem (although we didn't go on a tour of the house).
The park is very nice, the views of the Garda are amazing, but the museum itself tells a very superficial and one sided story about D'Annunzio. On a weekend in October it was well visited, but you never get the impression it is too full

Entry is exceptionally fast, and within the park, you’ll find food stalls and restaurants on every corner, so there’s always a place to rest and eat. Additionally, the park is technologically advanced and offers two useful apps: one for easy navigation inside the park and another for downloading photos taken on the rides, which adds to the experience and provides fun souvenirs.
The variety of attractions is indeed for all ages, but it's important to note that most rides are suited for those 100 cm (3.3 ft) tall and above. Therefore, it's wise to plan accordingly. Even so, the park provides a diverse experience for both parents and children. As mentioned, the most worthwhile option is to purchase tickets directly at the box office.
In conclusion, Gardaland is a highly recommended destination. It's a very enjoyable experience for parents and children, and it is highly recommended to take two days if possible, to have enough time to enjoy everything this vast place has to offer.

We had an absolutely fabulous day at the Gardaland! You feel like in a fairytale, and all the roller coasters are very exciting! 😍
I recommend going on a (rainy) weekday, so the queues are shorter and you manage to see everything. Feel free to skip the Jumanji Adventure ride though, it’s not quite worth a 40+ minute wait.
Another amazing amusememt park for kids and older as well. Rides get pretty busy with the nice weather, like in every resort.
I wish there was a better overview what each ride offers - we waited 90 minutes for Jumanji adventure, which was absolutely no advanture plus it was all in Italian.
Other than that, only 4 rides required height over 140, few over 130. Make sure to check these requirements before going.
Also, buying tickets outside od the official venue office is cheaper so look for those selling points in the city.
We visited Gardaland on a Wednesday and had an amazing time! 🎢 The waiting time for each ride was less than 15 minutes, which made the whole experience super smooth. The official app showing live queue times was very helpful — it helped us plan our route efficiently and enjoy more rides.
The park is clean, beautifully themed, and well-maintained. Staff were friendly and organized, and there were plenty of food options and rest areas. Both the kids and adults had a blast — from the thrilling roller coasters to the fun family attractions.
Highly recommend visiting on a weekday if possible — short queues, great atmosphere, and so much fun! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Fantastic for kiddies as there is a great balance of calmer rides with ease of motion while still holding very good production value. The adult rides too are equally fantastic. I hold the overall experience below Europa park however and wouldn't go too far out of my way to visit it.
So much fun, there's something for everyone. We also went during weekday in October, there was minimal queue and wait time even on popular rides. Absolutely recommended visiting if you have kids and are in the area.

A beautiful botanical park not far from the southern part of Lake Garda.
We visited in early June 2025. The park is lush with greenery, butterflies, and birds.
It’s highly recommended to take the small train tour that runs through the park. The ride lasts about 35 minutes and circles the entire park, giving you a sense of its size and helping you decide which areas you'd like to explore on foot.
Some of the highlights include a Japanese garden, a plant maze, an herb and butterfly garden, an educational farm, and more.
We spent about three wonderful hours there — you could easily spend even more.
Be sure to bring a bottle of water, as it can get quite hot during the day, even in June.
Convenient parking is available about 250 meters north of the park entrance, in the supermarket parking lot.
Beautiful park and great family outing
We went on a family trip to Parco Giardino Sigurtà and had a lovely day. We enjoyed a picnic in the gardens and drove around in a small golf cart, which the kids absolutely loved. The park is stunning and very well maintained – perfect for a relaxing day in nature. It is a bit on the expensive side though; we paid around 720 DKK for one golf cart for 2.5 hours. Highly recommended!
Amazing botanical garden, an absolute must see if you are in the area. Good paths to walk on, however, since the park is so big, there's also an option to rent a bike or golfkart. We rented a gokfkart, which is very convenient with small children.

The park itself is beautiful, but €46 for 2 adults and 2 kids is way too much considering the experience. Many attractions were closed, the park felt empty, and there wasn't much to do. It's a nice place to walk around, but with so little open, it should cost no more than €5 per person.
Beautiful place with amazing flowers. You can spend the entire day there. Bicycles are recommended, too bad they are not suitable for all ages.

Amazing place and the ticket price (15€) is really decent compared to other more famous palaces and given the amount of space, art and history you see. We were simply astonished. You can easily spend 4-5h and if it's raining outside, you have no reason to hurry up. We loved it, it's a must if you're in Mantova.

This was perhaps the best Palazzo I ever visited. Of course, Mantegna's work (camera degli sposi) was fab, but the building, setting, views as a whole were remarkable. I can understand why 400 years of Gonzagas lived here.
Palazzo Ducale is a breathtaking testament to Renaissance opulence—a vast labyrinthine complex of over 500 rooms, evolved from the 13th to the 17th century by luminaries like Giulio Romano, Antonio Maria Viani, and Giuseppe Piermarini . The crown jewel is undoubtedly the Camera degli Sposi, Andrea Mantegna’s illusionistic masterpiece that transports you into the heart of the Gonzaga dynasty . You’ll also discover the dazzling Hall of Mirrors, rich with mythological frescoes and regal reflections , along with sumptuous tapestries and Rubens’s “Adoration of the Holy Trinity” .
Four hours of magnificance! This palace is now one of my favourites. Starting with the bridal room and Mantegna's masterpiece - leading through corridors, rooms, passages, balustrades and gardens with some of the most stunning works ever made.
As for the gardens and collection rooms - Having visited the Met's Cloisters, brought back memories - Ducale's Palace must have been an important benchmark and inspiration.
A worthwhile visit. Bring time and a pair of comfy shoes or sandels. I walked the full stretches of Venice's palazzos, but Ducale is where I needed to rest my feet after the visit.

The castle itsef is amazing, very nice and well preserved frescoes.
A lot of different items on display, everything from sea shells, crocodiles, greek and roman sculptures, to weapons.

Very nice and extensive palace, so big that you can get lost ( or out of energy). A must if you travel in Mantova.

I would say that it is the main place you have to visit in northern Italy. The Palace is huge. Mind that you will need at least to 4-5 hours if you want to see most of it. It has a day off so either check in advance or take working hours from the info point near it.

Lots of neat artwork, but what you get to see for the €15 entry pales in comparison the the Ducal Palace complex including the San Giorgio castle (same entry fee) and museums. It was neat to check out, but if you only have time or funds for one, this is not the better choice considering offerings options and price. But it sure is worth stroll thru if you are here and interested. Different style of artwork than a lot we saw around there. Don't forget the grotto before you leave!
This is the palace built by the royal family of Mantua, as a palace of leisure, now a museum. It is richly decorated with frescoes, including those by Giulio Romano. My favorite room was The Hall of the Giants alhough others were also quite beautiful. There is a good audioguide in English and other languages.

We visited the wonderful November 2023 exhibition, and the place was in pristine condition. The infamous Sala dei Giganti e Sala dei Cavalli are not to be missed!
Staff are extremely kind, and like all other museums in Italy, they offer discounts for students, elderly people and children.
Great garden. The palace is not very big but has interesting rooms to see. Most of them were too provocative for mine taste of art but all of them were made with grace and detailed. The sun and the moon was my favourite . It was very shocking for me that every place in Montova has different working hours in every day of the week. So if you are planning to visit definitely take the working hours map from the info point.

Very impressive palace with water and a garden. Our tour guide Simone was a lovely and hilarious addition to the experience. The palace's rooms offer a very diverse selection of decorations, some of the frescoes make you wonder what kind of orgies they were celebrating. Lago d‘Iseo is a gem. It is one of those underrated northern Italian lakes that still feels authentic and relaxed compared to Como or Garda.

I made a small roundtrip around iseo even though it was raining but was worth it for me so calm to take a walk and take the fresh air out of this lake too bad i didn't saw and got the oppurtunity to take a big trip here, maybe next time. 🫡

Beautiful lago, one of the smaller but still as beautiful lakes. You can get a ferry across to mountisola where you can walk up the top, swim in the lago grab a lunch or just stroll around the island. It is beautiful a little busy at times but does bot distract from its stunning scenery. Parking was hard in a few places on the mainland as was quite busy when we went. Have to wear a ffp2 mask on the ferry which they sell with tickets.

Really cool castle experience, recommend the armory museum! I am really sad that I have forgotten the name of the female security guard who answered our questions and explained in detail about the use of different weapons and armor. She made the experience a great one. We bought the 19 Eur ticket to 5 museums on site. Recommend taking like 3-4 hours just to get the full castle experience and really go through the museums if you plan to go and see the winged victory the same day (which you have to book a time slot for but they do it for you when you buy the ticket). But back to the castle, really nice. Loved it. 10/10 would recommend.

Loved this castle. great place to spend a couple of hours wondering around the grounds of this ancient castle. The tower provided an amazing view of the city. I highly recommend stopping here and taking in a coffee in the piazza outside the castle. Parking was easy and the castle is located near many of the other historic sites.
Good for a short stop while travelling between Franciacorta and Lake Garda. The castle is beautifully lighted up in the evening and there is free parking at the base of the castle. Great spot to see the sunset and the castle’s drawbridge is very well preserved too.
Awesome Castle. The walk up is interesting, following the names of terrorism victims and the view from the top is amazing. No entrance fee either. Best thing we did in Brescia.

Lovely castle to visit for free with great views round the city. Lots of seating areas for sitting with lunch and free toilets. There are a couple of museums that we didnt have time to visit bur would have liked to. There is a ricket for 19 euris for adults that allows access to many of the main sights. Definitely worth the walk up the steps or the less steep path.

Impressive castle with stunning views over Brescia. Walk from the city centre is pleasant (a bit steep in parts but manageable). Entrance to castle grounds is free and it’s very easy to enjoy 2+ hours exploring and appreciate the views!

One of the most beautiful Cathedrals I’ve had the opportunity to visit. Make sure you look up in every vestibule !
It’s a lot of steps to go up the tower but there is something to see on each floor as well as to catch your breath. It is really worth paying to see the tower which includes access to the Baptist part. But the Tower makes you really look at the clock which is far, far advanced to anything we have still and it still works in part. Plus the great views of the city at the top. The cathedral itself is a must too including the crypt and really a great respite from the heat.
Absolutely beautiful cathedral! The architecture is impressive from both outside and inside. The atmosphere inside is peaceful and highly decorated with paintings. It's definitely worth a visit if you're in Cremona.
A fantastic cathedral. We went to mass which was incredible with voices of the choir like angels. And what a beautiful church. The art is beautiful. Plan on at least an hour for a visit. Longer if you attend mass.
This place is wonderful, the Torrazzo is the 3rd tallest brickwork bell tower in the world, was constructed in 1309. the view from the tower is astonishing
Imposing and vast, much more than you might reckon for a relatively small city as Cremona. The inside is richly decorated (many reinassance artists contributed to its beautifully preserved frescoes) and the vault awe-inspiring.
The church is free to visit - the rest of the complex, for example the bell tower, is not.
Don't miss the floor mosaics in the crypt!

Great experience to get to see this. My colleague was taking me around after dinner to pass some time- from the US and we have nothing of this historical value. The incorporation of the town around it now being restaurants and such is nice- I'm sure during the day is even more lively and beautiful!
Fantastic historic castle (moat and all!) that still contains all the original furniture and fixtures, including weaponry and armors. Ideally, visit when the weather is cooler because the interior can get pretty hot in July (which is when we visited). I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the guided tour: the docent made the castle's history come alive with plenty of historical info and many anecdotes about the castle inhabitants over the centuries...quite amazing, including the vicious plot against the Sanseverina noblewoman(don't want to spoil it here, but she is an important character in Stendhal's novel "The Charterhouse of Parma"). He is probably the most knowledgeable and entertaining tour guide I have ever met. Last but not least, this castle hides a pictorial gem by the great Parmigianino, created at the Age of 19 before he was catapulted to fame. Do not miss!
We visited this castle on a Saturday in November, so it was closed and we couldn't go inside. But the square around the castle is lovely and there are cute trattorias where you can have a coffee or a spritz.

The walk is a bit tiring for children, but you can find places to stop along the way to take a break. You can also find a botanical garden, a small museum and restaurants/bar.

Prehistory park of over 100 hectares of forest which features 30 reconstructions of prehistoric animals (including prehistoric men), about a hundred animals in semi-freedom, a botanical itinerary with marked plants, natural environments (such as: a marsh, meadows, lakes, etc.), areas equipped for picnic, bars, playgrounds, a labyrinth, fossil exhibits, etc., all along a shaded path.
Nice place for families. The park is an interesting experience if you have children. The tickets are not cheap and I would expect dinosaurs reproductions bigger than that.

This park is lovely for a long Spring walk with young kids, especially if they are dinosaurs crazy. The reproductions are good (although not perfect) and they are well spaced out. The bar served good food (although mainly fried) and the service is very fast. The playground is nice and has plenty of benches for the tired parents to sit on. The entry price is a little steep for the local market and it's a shame it does NOT include a ride on the little road train. Foreign families would not find this price that high. Finally, the maze is simple but great for younger children, who will not get lost even if they enter on their own. A nice addition.

This area is worth a visit there are plenty of bars in the village one shop we found at the top of the hill there is a free art gallery. Churches of course and 2 museums , archaeological and the castle there is a joint ticket entry for 7 euros the climb up

Stunning hilltop castle nestled in a medieval Italian borgo. The entry fee is minimal and the photos you can take alone are worth the price. The history is also quite interesting. Worth the trip.
It was a great opportunity to visit what still stands of an old castle. Tons of stairs to get to the top. Not a real lot to see. But glad I did it. Not for anyone with issues with heights. I was lucky to do this when no one else was in the building. If you are pressed for time may be worth just checking out the town instead.

The whole small medieval town is a sight for itself. We parked down in the village and walk the hill up to the castle. Beautiful buildings and architecture all the way up. And on top of course the castle, the tower and many other sights. As well as a small park with some nice views.
The town dates back to the 8th Century, but it believed to be even older. The castle itself (the "Borgo") was build in 1342, while the nearby church "Santa Maria Assunta" dates back to the 11th Century. Then there's the Palazzo del Podestà and the Bell tower and other notable buildings up there in the castle area. It was also the filming location of "Ladyhawke" starring Matthew Broderick, Rutger Hauer and Michelle Pfeiffer.
We came here on a sunday, there were some visitors, but we expected a lot more, free parking available down in the village as well. A really wonderful old town worth visiting. We didn't expect much, since we really didn't know much about the place, but were really impressed by this beautiful town.

Walking around during the roof terraces on a sunny day was terrific. The outside of the Cathedral is more interesting than the inside, but that is still very impressive. The museum was a lit more interesting than I thought it was going to be
We bought timed tickets (the timing is for the roof) before going. When I bought them, I thought they were expensive. After the visit, they seem good value as visiting all areas took the whole day.

Absolutely breathtaking! The Duomo is beyond beautiful — every detail is incredibly intricate and far more impressive than words can describe. If you plan to take the elevator to the rooftop for the view, I highly recommend booking tickets online in advance.
Lots of tourists arrive here every single day, and it’s easy to understand why. The architecture of this ancient cathedral is absolutely stunning every part of the exterior is covered with beautiful carvings and statues that reflect centuries of history and devotion.
We also visited this place during our trip to Milan, and it was an unforgettable experience. The atmosphere around the cathedral is lively, with people taking photos, enjoying the view, and admiring the beauty of the structure from every angle. I was so impressed that I went back three days in a row – both during the day and at night – and each time it felt just as magical. Beautiful place and free to explore. Walk through. I think you need a ticket for different parts and if you want a guided tour. I explored on my own which was completely fine for me. There are lots of maps and historic plaques in both Italian and English, which were both informative and interesting to digest. Good place to visit!

On a recent trip to Milan, we had the pleasure of visiting Castello Sforzesco and absolutely loved exploring this historic treasure. Admission is free, and you can walk around the grounds to enjoy the beautiful landscape and gardens. There are clean washrooms and even a few food trucks inside the premises where you can grab a drink or snacks.
This castle is wonderful for visitors of all ages and is quite picturesque, perfect for some lovely Instagram photos. You’ll need about 1–2 hours to stroll around and take in the surroundings, though you can certainly stay longer and relax in the peaceful gardens.
Chose the free option so could only walk around the grounds but still a very impressive building. I believe a lot of the rooms are little museums and exhibitions. Definitely worth a visit whether you pay or not. Dates back to the 15th Century I think. Lovely fountain in front one of the entrances.
Really great walk even if you don’t visit the castle itself. Lots of different areas, I liked the fountain and the park the most as was a good walk in the Milan weather. It does get very busy though so watch out for any pickpockets but besides that great attraction to see.
Bring water! It’s a lot of stone and no breeze at all even on a November day it’s hot. The building is beautiful and fun to read about the different times and styles people wanted to build.
(And all the holes are for scaffolding for fast and easy repairs)
Went here at around 16.00 with my boyfriend, it’s already dark and to go inside the castle is almost closed so we just spend an hour around the palace field and garden and it was Beautifuuuuuuuuul! They have a lot of information board with stories about the castles! Very interesting (and one tips is to bring your AI friends to ask them about everything you’ve been curious about) there are so many magnificent remains even outside the castle! Would love to come here again maybe in the morning to really explore inside 🤓
a lovely castle with many museums (picture gallery, Museum of Ancient art, Museum of musical instruments, Museum of decorative art and Museum o prehistory and protohistory). When I can, I go to the early period music concert which is a great quality in an exceptional atmosphere. The entrance ticket is not expensive and there are really many ancient objects to enjoy. There is a big park, Parco Sempione, just behind the castle.
Castello Sforzesco is a very large majestic castle in Milan. There are several entrances/ exits. There are both ends towers. Free toilets are also available. Outside, next to the castle is a large beautiful fountain. There is a food stall selling nice fluffy chestnuts at the entrance. Policemen on horses are awesome.

Rivalta Castle, located just outside of Piacenza in the medieval hamlet of Rivalta-Trebbia, is a privately owned castle that offers tours of its historic rooms and artifacts. The castle, which has a history dating back 1500 years, sits on a large hill overlooking the Trebbia River and provides stunning views.
This hotel is very nice and worked well for us since we were traveling on a motorcycle.
It rained for the few days we stayed so having the restaurant and lounge on site meant we didn't get wet trying to find a meal or a drink.
You can tour the old castle but you will need to book in advance if you need an English guide.
Tour packages start at 14 euro person and 35 euro for the English guide that lasts an hour and a half then the tours go up in price and substance after that.
If there is one thing I did find quite disappointing was for the price we paid to stay the breakfast was very limited and plain.
So if you want quaint and romantic this place is nice.
If you're on a budget but are thinking of spending some extra cash to stay here I would say search around the area then come sightseeing.

Getting caught up on reviews/pics from out trip to Italy in May/June 2024. What an amazing castle! The owner/family still lives there, but has opened the castle for tours. The history of the castle goes back some 1500 years. It’s on a large hill overlooking the Trebbia River, in the province of Piacenza, Italy. Many of the rooms in the castle are “as is”… as they have been for centuries. So much history there, from prisoners to royal guests from all over Europe. It really is a very cool place to visit, good for families as well!
Would be a great trip but if you are not Italian, the tour guides are extremely inhospitable and rude. They do not try to hide their xenophobia. In certain rooms they refuse to speak anything but Italian, and they will not make eye contact with anyone who does not. We were dismissed quickly and the visit was not worth the money. I agree with other reviews, the staff make this a must-miss and unpleasant experience.
This could be a fantastic experience if only the (still living) descendants weren't so selfish and exclusive. For instance: you can't take photos inside the castle; wonder why? me too! Also, the rooms and most of the castle isn't true to its origin: it's rebuilt, not restored. Not recommended.
gorgeous ancient castle. had a lovely visit, a historian took us to see some of the rooms although the family still lives there. I particularly appreciated the 17th century games and toys and the armours hall.
The location is timeless and absolutely gorgeous! The food was really really good with a great service! Absolutely delighted by the fabulous lunch that we had!
