Unexpectedly beautiful Cathedral in Telsiai. Double floor plan. Interesting.
Raimond — Google review
Relatively large cathedral located on a tiny hill in downtown Telšiai. Also notable are the historical panels emboldened on the Great Wall forming the church’s perimeter, they tell a history of the town and the country.

Small, but also large cathedral. Small of the area, but large because of two floors. Built in 1796. Main church of Samogitia bishopric

Wow one of the best and most iterating experiences we’ve had. A unique look at a soviet missile silo. You can explore throughout the structure including into the silos - it’s an underground labyrinth! Test every door as they mostly open and lead to other parts with more information. The English translation also makes it quite entertaining! Loads of parking and large cycle groups. Maybe find the online history as some of the displays and information is a bit lacking and could have improved clarity.

Felt like I stepped into a chilling chapter of history at a former Soviet Union nuclear missile site in Lithuania. Hidden deep in the forest, this once top-secret base housed missiles aimed at the West during the Cold War. Walking past the massive steel doors, fortified bunkers, and the eerie launch silos felt like stepping into a spy novel - except it was all real. It was a unique way to experience the tension, secrecy, and high stakes of the Cold War, standing right where world-changing decisions could have been made. An unforgettable blend of history, engineering, and the quiet reminder of how close humanity once came to the brink.
Hitesh S — Google review
What an amazing place. Just fascinating. We had an audio guide which gave great explanations of the main points of interest. This is a subject we are really interested in so we spent around 3.5 hours in the museum. There is a huge amount of information to take in, if you are interested. Just being in the facility is incredible when you think of all the tensions and decisions that were taken during those years. The film at the end and the "red button" is very powerful. From a practical perspective if this a subject that interests you then leave plenty of time for your visit and ensure you wear warm clothes, it is freezing down there even with 21 degrees outside! An amazing place, highly recommended.
Elaine C — Google review
Hidden deep in the forests of the Žemaitija National Park lies a former Soviet underground nuclear missile base. The base was built in 1960 in the utmost secrecy and for a long time four R-12 Dvina nuclear missiles (NATO name: SS-4 Sandal) were stationed there. With a range of 3,000 km, almost any target in the whole of Europe could be destroyed from here. Only once, during the Prague Spring of 1968, was the missile base on high alert, with the domes open and at most waiting for a launch order. In 1978, the (already outdated) base was discovered by the American secret service and soon every missile and soldier had disappeared from the Žemaitija forests. Today it houses the Cold War Museum, a fascinating and educational museum whose most impressive feature are the 30-meter deep missile silos. Highly recommended!
Koen — Google review
Truly impressive and thought-provoking. These are the very locations that once instilled fear in the West during the Cold War — hidden deep in the forests, armed with nuclear-capable rocket silos pointed toward Europe. Walking freely through these underground chambers and control rooms is surreal. Hard to imagine that not long ago, this place was part of a global standoff.
Oskar V — Google review
Impressive museum where you learn from the past that helps to explain our present geopolitical issues. The children liked it and the site is giving you an amazing grasp of the cold war. The use of the audioguide is highly recommended.
Tom P — Google review
Very unique and peculiar museum, there are free tours for visitors. However, if you want to learn more, I'd suggest just going by yourself and reading the information at the museum at your own pace.
Radvilė S — Google review
Very cool to see the missile silos and underground base. Information is also in English but the quality of the translation isn’t great and it left me with many questions. Also the route through the ten chambers is confusing despite instructions to “follow the white line”. Better take a picture of the layout when you begin .

Beautiful grounds, set in serene parkland, it was lovely to sit in the sun and watch the relaxing fountain and the beautiful flowers. The inside of the building was beautiful. It was nice to get a look around but the artwork really wasn't anything great. Overall experience of the setting is the main draw. We had a picnic and enjoyed watching the guests and wedding couple arrive for their wedding reception which was being held there.
Patricia G — Google review
Great park and flower arrangements around the museum. The history of the place and buildings in the park suggest that the owner most likely was smart, educated and interesting person. The whole town is well renovated with great church to visit or new areas well incorporated to support life in the town without destroying the interesting parts from relatively recent history.

Very special place. You will be impressed what one man can create from very heavy stones and huge woods. If you’re looking a place for meditation, for a internal reflection or for inner peace, or you want to heal your broken heart, this place is exactly what are you looking for.
Darius R — Google review
They say they are opened on their site, on Google and also on their sign at the site. But they're actually closed. There's a phone number you "can" call which doesn't work. I was quite excited to see this but we already came here 2 times and both times couldn't get in...
Tereza K — Google review
Solemn place great for meditation, lots of catholic undertones. Looks like time stood still in this passion project
Robbe I — Google review
It is sad to see how abandoned the place is . 25 years ago I was here with a school, and I remember by then a conversation of our teacher and the owners who where responsible on running the museum. Our teacher was criticising the owners of low care, that the artists works and workshops not being properly preserved, and that was already visible by that time. Today I left the museum with deep disappointment. Everything is rotten , the workshop places, the wood sculptures the environment itself feels abandoned. Maybe that is the idea of letting it go after the last creators death, but then it should equally stand a clear statement explaining why museum is in such conditions. I would definitely be afraid of taking children, and I would not feel safe of letting them walk around, as all the under stone paths, sculptures, especially where the central composition/workshop stands it doesn’t look safe anymore, the feeling is that it can collapse at any time. Strange that no one from the government, department of culture and safety do not pay attention. Missing safety, guiding, information signs. No education centre with video, sound or just basic archives. The only good was the new toilet, but is it that why visitors stop by and pay 6 Eur entry fee? It looks like that the main business there is AIRBNB, party and wedding place. I give one star for those who currently running the museum and for sure the highest respect for artist and his endless imagination and the power of holding and controlling the stones.
Martynas P — Google review
This is unique places attract and wonder passion of human. Still missing educational part to explain how and why all this happened.
Audrius S — Google review
Well, this place is more oriented to religious people, or who love stone craft - art. Many different crosses and sculptures related to religious traditions. You can find some other art instalations, but you have to understand and love arts to understand them. But overall, it is impresive to see how one man can change his environment and create this kind of place next to where he lives. For me most impresive thing was - World War II Soviet Tank. Not sutr what model it is but i gues it is “IS” series tank.
Martynas S — Google review
Absolutely worth of visit. This is mysterious place between reality, art and surrealism

Jonušai Mini Zoo

Zoo
Outdoor Activities
Have you ever pet a tiger?! Have you ever been “bitten” by a tiger?! Visit this zoo - now you will dare to tell you have experienced it all!!!! Highly recommended! A great cillectiin of rare animals!
Tony D — Google review
Some cages were empty, seemed too small or looked like they had way too many animals. But other than that, lots of tigers, lions and birds. Most were sleeping, but could still see lots of creatures. Can also pet, play with, or feed baby tigers near the entrance for an additional fee.
Ričards R — Google review
Really interesting experience. Lot of Tigers, Lions and Peacocks. You can buy some bread at the gate to feed some animals. And by extra fee it was possible to play 3 month old Tiger pups. Place looks tired or out dated but most of animals are closer than in other zoo parks. Funny feeling was to see how Tiger plays and eats the dinner.
Johanna V — Google review
The worst zoo I have ever visited in my life… It’s totally wrong to see wild animals in such a conditions. Cages for animals are quite small ,dirty, disgusting and animals seems depressed… It’s not zoo, but jail and you shouldn’t bring your kids here. P.S. If you are here just for pictures even those won’t be beautiful as the zoo is disgusting.
Pauls S — Google review
This is not a zoo - it's some medieval menagerie. Keeping animals in such conditions is unethical and simply cruel. Breeding them - even more. Just don't go there.
Natural L — Google review
An interesting experience. It would be good to build more spacious enclosures for the animals. There were an incredible amount of tigers, it was a bit surprising. There were also many other felines. The cages felt a little wobbly. In some places panthers were walking in a cage directly above us. Safety was a bit of a concern, especially with small children, because it would be possible for a small child to put his hand in the cage. The tiger cubs were incredibly cute. This is really not small, even though the name suggests so.
Anu K — Google review
Everything looks like in other cements. If you read them then you are prepared. Cash only, don't use wc. Loved baby tigers & lions. For additional 15 eur you can pet them for 10 min.
Sintija V — Google review
Absolutely depressing place. The living conditions of the animals were terrible. I have never seen zoo animals run to a human that i saw on this zoo. The animals were completely stressed and hungry. Im also in tears right now when i think about these poor animals. Look at these camels in the picture. Their humps were completely emty and they were so thin. Thats not ok.

Ragnit Castle

Mentioned on
1 list
Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
Ragnit Castle, located in the Nieman District, is a stunning remnant of Kaliningrad's Teutonic heritage. Dating back to the 13th or 14th century, this historic site showcases impressive architecture despite its current state of ruins. Visitors can appreciate the meticulous craftsmanship that went into its construction. Recently, efforts have been made to restore Ragnit Castle; rubble has been cleared away and repairs on features like the clock tower are underway.
Excursions offered add to the experience. You get to visit the inner space and the basement.

(Translated by Google) The castle is magnificent. Despite its very respectable age and the fact that the castle has been preserved in ruins, it is still clear how carefully it was built and how well it was thought out. Our tour guide Natalya gave us an excellent tour; she is based in a nearby (2 minutes walk) small enterprise, a craft restaurant and a cheese factory - by the way, I recommend it, very good. There is a separate tour of the cheese factory. Prices for excursions, as well as in the restaurant and for cheeses are more than adequate, the quality is high.

(Translated by Google) We visited in September'22. Well done for restoring it. Thank you for organizing the excursion. Ragnit Castle has now been cleared of many years of rubble, the clock tower and even the tower clock have been repaired. In the future, they plan to cover the red brick structure of the stronghold with a glass dome. It should turn out stylish.

(Translated by Google) The castle is located in the city center next to the prosecutor's office. 5 meters from the gate there is a small parking lot, at the edge of which there are the remains of a castle tower with a clock. The castle itself is in poor condition. Almost completely destroyed. The courtyard is kept clean, but nothing more. The castle has no view as such due to the complete loss of the roof and ceilings and the destruction of the main walls. The view from the windows is not interesting. But, this is my personal opinion. ) Have a nice time and great impressions.

(Translated by Google) The castle is being restored, but it is tightly closed, what's the point of traveling 120 km to look at the walls from the outside??? Take money for entry, make booklets with the history of this castle and sell them there, why not? 5 stars only because it is very well preserved, compared to the same Balga... And so, in three minutes you can walk around it, read about it on the Internet for 5 minutes, look at the devastation happening in the city of Neman and go home, forgetting the way there for another 15 years (Original)

(Translated by Google) We arrived in Sovetsk and decided to look at the Tilsit castle marked on the map, located right next to the Queen Louise Gate, but there was no castle there, only an old building of some kind of factory. We asked the locals where the castle was. We were sent from Sovetsk to the city of Neman, where there really was a Ragnit castle, this is a beautiful building of the 13th century. Of course, the view of the castle is delightful, but you can’t get inside, or even see through the windows, since all the windows are covered with brickwork, which of course was disappointing. At the moment, the areas next to the castle are being improved, but for some reason the castle itself is not being restored, in general it stands as a useless landmark, the windows were closed so that they would not climb, but nothing interesting was invented.

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Crosing the bridge named after Prussian queen Louise (1776–1810) to Sovetsk (Russian: Сове́тск), before 1946 known as TilsiT, Lithuanian: Tilžė; Polish: Tylża; German: Tilsit) in East Prussia, a town in Kaliningrad Oblast, Russia, located on the south bank of the Neman River. The Treaties of Tilsit were signed here in July 1807, the preliminaries of which were settled by the emperors Alexander I of Russia and Napoleon I of France on a raft moored in the Neman River. This treaty, which created the Kingdom of Westphalia and the Duchy of Warsaw, completed Napoleon's humiliation of the Kingdom of Prussia, when it was deprived of one half of its dominions. (And yes, it takes sometime/hours to cross the border, take it easy 😎)

Crossing by land route from Lithuania into the Russian exclave Kaliningrad (Königsberg) this former Prussian border gate in the East of the German Empire ("Reichsgrenze") is an outstanding piece of historic heritage. Before 1945 one had to cross eastwards in order to get into Russia. Since 1991, the collapse of the Soviet Union, travelers have to cross westwards in order to visit Russia

The museum survives only thanks to their enthusiasm. The guide just starts to glow if he sees your interest. Don't hesitate and go to the museum. It’s a pity that our Country doesn’t contain such places at all, but it’s only thanks to such museums that people remember their history. It’s a shame to know when you find out that the museum is supported by other countries, and our country has little interest if there is no profit. (Translated by Google) The theater opened in a specially adapted building in 1893. This building had a relatively small capacity and was significantly rebuilt and reconstructed in 1903. The auditorium was expanded and an orchestra pit appeared in front of the stage. The stage was also deepened and expanded. The theater was rebuilt in the Baroque style. The reconstruction of 1936 was carried out from the perspective of Nazi ideology; many decorative elements inside the building were removed; the outside of the building was completely rebuilt. The building acquired a more austere appearance; the sculptures of Schiller and Goethe were removed. The theater first opened in 1893, although visiting troupes had played in unsuitable premises in Tilsit before. The first performance played on the theater stage was Goethe’s drama “Egmont”. The first director of the theater was Emil Hanemann. The old theater building was significantly rebuilt in 1903, the auditorium was noticeably expanded. And in 1908, the theater was headed by Francesco Scioli. In 1936, the theater building underwent another reconstruction, the theater was named “Theater of the Border Land”. With the outbreak of World War II, the theater was closed.

Dancing Forest

Forests
The Dancing Forest is a well-known hiking destination located on the sandy Curonian Spit. The area boasts of an unusual sight - pine trees growing in unique, spiral shapes that are caused by the strong winds and sand erosion. These peculiar forms have resulted from young pine trees being buried and beaten over time, particularly during the period when Germans tested water airplanes there. While it is a great place for a romantic walk, its popularity leads to crowding at times.
It is very crowded, and you can barely explore :( Only place you can walk is the path — cannot diverge even a little bit. Hugging trees also forbidden lol ;) The smell in this place is amazing, rich of pine. Many tourists but I would still recommend.

The only place in the world where at night you think that trees are dancing at the rave party. Magnificent nature, make sure to check it.
Nikola “ — Google review
A wildly popular spot frequented mostly by the local tourists. Instead of useless souvenir kiosks they should make a proper paved parking and build some normal lavatories! Roaming around the trees is not allowed, but the locals often just don't care..
Julius P — Google review
Trees are shaped due to hazardous gas left in tankers under ground by Germans at the end of WW II. This was said at the excursion. Don't know if it's true. Can check it if anyone is interested

(Translated by Google) On the banks of the Polessky Canal there is an agrotourism farm “Horse-pony yard”. Unity with nature occurs here in the full sense of the word. The main feature of this place is the possibility of live communication with animals on the farm. Yes, exactly communication. Here you can not only look at them, but also touch them. Horses and ponies are the main favorites of guests. You can ride them under the supervision of an experienced instructor. Thank you very much for the tour @poni_koni_dvor (Original)

(Translated by Google) A stunning castle, an interesting excursion can be booked on site. It’s a pity that there are no excursion buses going there, the place is really interesting. The brick in this building is handmade. Every brick! Dear investors, pay attention to it, the building has been completely preserved. The ceilings were damaged by fire in only one part. It could be an excellent tourist attraction point.

In 1859-1860, Labiau Castle was rebuilt and has since been used as a prison. In 1948-1963, a Soviet prison was already functioning in the castle, after which the building was transferred to the Yantar prison. When it was a factory, the castle was thoroughly rebuilt: interior spaces, stairs, corridors. At the end of the 1990s, the factory was closed, after which the premises of the castle began to be rented out to various organizations. The medieval cellars have been preserved to this day. Everything was in deep repair. The first part is the castle itself, weapons in different centuries (you can hold them in your hands), in the next room there is a model in its original form and a story about the history of the castle. Part 2 - basement. 3rd - prison and cells. They are actively destroying everything around and making a show of it)) You can only visit with a tour, which lasts about 50 minutes. Tours take place every hour. (Translated by Google) Considering the fact that I have never encountered such structures before, the place is quite interesting and large-scale. Until recently, the premises that remained from the ancient castle of the 13th century (and this is 1/4 - 1 wing) and the buildings built much later around it were a prison. Moreover, various kinds of correctional organizations were located here as early as the end of the 18th century. The only surviving wing has now been restored, the remaining three have been restored in the form of external walls, together forming a large courtyard with stands, where historical reconstructions, concerts and performances are held. Tours are conducted around the historical building, the premises are gradually filled with exhibits, furniture (but from later times), a significant collection of medieval weapons is presented... There is still a lot of work to do, but even now it is already quite interesting. The castle still holds many unsolved secrets, interesting legends, and of course has its own personal ghost. In the conditions of current restorations, the main thing is to get a good tour guide. Oleg gave us a tour. It was great - very interesting, humorous, accessible, simple and understandable.

In the end - very interesting. Thanks to this wonderful family - the enthusiastic Sorokins. A few years ago, the castle was lucky - Waldau decided to rent it and restore it to the best of her ability by a family of businessmen from Belgorod. For this reason, Sergei and Nadezhda Sorokin moved to Nizovye with their children. Since then, tourists have been coming here, Waldau is gradually coming to its senses (Original) We walked along a dark alley towards the lights that illuminate the castle. There is something mystical about this. The castle does not look like a classic one with towers and loopholes. It looks more like an estate with vast grounds. We were greeted by hospitable hosts, Nadezhda, Sergey Sorokin and their boys. In the outbuilding you will be happy to make a cup of coffee or aromatic tea. I was impressed by the kitchen on the first floor and the interesting lifting device to the second floor. With its help, cooked dishes are raised to the 2nd floor in the guest room. The decor, furniture, interior dishes, tapestries, paintings - everything is ancient, atmospheric. You can enjoy your dinner here. Feeling as if you have traveled back in time. And she became the princess of this castle. Next time we will come to them for dinner. It turned out we were not the only ones who chose to spend this evening in the castle. The clock struck and invited us into the galleries, where a surprise awaited us. Majestic and solid. Huge halls, one of which has a theater area. Today we listened to the opera. Opera buffa is associated with the traditions of the folk comedy of masks (dell'arte) of Giovanni Battista Pergolesi. Performers: lyric-coloratura soprano Evgeniya Dumkina, baritone Daniil Antonov. Very gentle performance. And the plot is relevant to our time. What do we choose? Live communication, love, meetings, actions? Or talking on the phone, and now also playing games. It makes you think about how much time we spend on real life and how much time on virtual reality. 😀 A wonderful evening. Don't sit at home watching TV or phones. Seek and you will find. You will find bright and sincere people and wonderful events.

(Translated by Google) Waldau is a 13th century Prussian castle with a small museum inside. The exhibition, as they say, is all about the world - disparate objects from different times. This is what the average regional museum probably looks like. But it's interesting, worth a visit. Storks live in a nest on the roof of the main building, and nearby there is a very cool cafe “At the Beaver”. There is a sweet hostess who bakes delicious strudel and pretzels. I highly recommend stopping by. And the interior of her cute German-style house is as impressive as the museum next door :-) (Original)

(Translated by Google) The castle itself is nondescript; many things are in disrepair. But! Take a tour, you won’t regret it, you will learn a lot about the history of this place and how it influenced the history of Russia. Peter the Great himself stayed in this castle.

Spa and health club
Nessel'bek is a quirky medieval-style hotel located in a redbrick castle with its own unique culture and style. The place offers delicious food, including a good choice of home wines and beer from its brewery. The interior and exterior are well-designed down to the smallest detail, creating a spectacular atmosphere. Visitors can enjoy live music, knight performances, and even a show featuring knights and horses. It's recommended for families as there are great shows for kids as well as attractions for adults.

Great replica of medieval castle with splendidly decorated interior. Teutonic order and stuff! The gents toilet is something to see! Didn’t have a chance to dine so can’t say much on food and drinks.

We booked a spa and water in the pool was extremely dirty. Unfortunately we realised it only after we got into the water. It took only 10 minutes to get to the reception with our complanes after we entered the place but we were forced to pay for full hour! When water was dirty with some particles and nasty oil marks on the surface! I DO NOT RECOMMEND this place - staff were rude and refused to return our money back! It’s just not safe to be there!

Sights & Landmarks
Fort Donkhoff, a 19th-century fortress, is well-preserved and currently undergoing extensive restoration. It boasts a water-filled moat, earthen embankments, and inner courtyards. Visitors can join free guided tours or explore the fort independently. The location is quite remote but offers an hour-long tour in Russian. While there's only one place to eat with microwaved meals, the area is pleasant to visit.
Old German Fort is a cool place to visit! Fort No. 11 - the fortification of the citadel city of Königsberg, one of the fifteen main forts built in 1877-1881. Though, it is open to public at the same time it’s going through extensive renovation program. It’s pay to get in. Recommend

From all of the forts this one is considered to be in the best condition because it never saw real combat. It is also being restored quite extensively lately, so you might see more than in the other forts. A guide gives free tours at the start of every hour but if you wish you can wander through the fort all by yourself. There's also a cafe and a shooting range operating there but those aren't free.

Not to mention that the location is quite far from center, the fortress offers you a free tour for around an hour in the Russian language. It is interesting to know story behind. There is no proper toilet, so be aware. There is only one place to eat but they microwaved the meals (not fresh). Area is nice. Ticket is 250. Worth to visit.
