Alexandrovskaya village (Александровская слобода) is known from the XV century. From 1505 she served as the country residence of Grand Duke Vasily III, from 1564 to 1581 - the residence of Tsar Ivan the Terrible (actually the capital of the state, the center of Oprichnina). Absolutely amazing airspace museum. Some of the rarest airplanes made in the Soviet Union and Russia is here. I am highly impressed with the collection and the facts. A bit upset on the upkeep of the planes and artifacts, probably due to funding , and the lack of information and facts on some planes. Otherwise a must visit. But do come in the warm period. I visited in the winter and it was cold but still enjoyable. Would recommend to anybody. Even with children

Amazing museum. They have unique aircraft. It is possible to reach by train from Moscow, but the museum is a bit far from the Monino station. I recommend going by taxi. Not very expensive from Moscow.

It took a 90 minute train ride and walking a mile to get here, but it was worth it. Some of the most beautiful planes I'll ever see. So happy to know that the Tu-144 is getting a full restoration due to the contributions of visitors. I gladly put 100 rubles in the donation box.

For aviation fans (like me) the visit is well worth the travel time to get there from Moscow City: A large selection of Russian military aircraft from between the two world wars to current times. Most of the few indoor exhibits are only with explanations in Russian, most of the outdoor exhibits have English spec sheets, too. The TU-144 is very special to see! We had a great opportunity to enter the fuselage and cockpit of the largest helicopter of the world: A technician let us in through a side door! Impressive!! The entry fee is relatively cheap, the memorabilia shop ok. The lady there very friendly. The travel with the Russian railway from Yaroslavsky station took about an hour and didn't cost much. To the "non-aviation-enthusiast" visitor a warning: The overall maintenance of the place is not exactly outstanding, some of the exhibits are not in a good condition - I guess they're fighting budget problems.

I took the train with some friends out to the Central Air Force Museum (Moscow) to see planes. The museum has lots of older aircraft and I an glade to see they are resorting some too. The signs are small but you can find with a smartphone.

Visited here in September, 2014. This unbelievably colorful abbey (or cathedral?) is the center of the area called "Sergiyev Posad". According to what I have googled, this abbey is like a symbol of Russian Orthodox Church. You can go there by train from a station in Moscow, taking about 1 hour. It's long a little bit, but you don't have to change a train on the way, so it might be just a great chance to see beautiful sceneries of the Moscow suburb from a train window. Personally I guess those who haven't been to Russia can never imagine this country really likes something colorful, especially churches and palace, but it is not the case. Once you have come here, sort of stereotype in your mind would be changed.

This is Anton Chekhov's house. It is a great day trip from Moscow. If you enjoy acting and plays this is a worthy excursion. If you enjoy being outside in a beautiful landscape this is also the place for you. The museum offers guided tours which are great if you have a translator. I am told the lady with the fantastic hat is the best! If you don't have a translator don't fret there are well written English descriptions around the whole museum.

A guided tour starts every hour that goes through the history and facts about the animals, while the group is walking through the walled off part of the preserve, where the zubrs can be seen. The animals themselves are majestic, but on the whole a tour is not very eventful and there is a chance that the animals are far away and difficult to see. I would recommend going here if you stay in one of the nearby towns.

A place full of history, the churches, and gardens are well worth the visit. Its impressive how this place is so well maintained. You can see the cannons left behind by Napoleon. You can also see iconic buildings from Russia's history although the tourist can really only see them from the outside, yet its still very worthwhile.

This is the wrong address and it’s very hard to find this museum. To make a long story short, you need to follow the signs to Vystavochnaya (выставочная) metro station. Right before the gates, you’ll see the museum. If you still can’t find it, show locals this photo and ask them for directions.

As others have explained and we sadly did not read about until to late, it would have saved us an hour in searching, the museum is in the Metro. Good place to see although very limited displays due to not having any space. Recommended on the way it has been created. Very informal and everything is in Russian. Dr Google gets a fail here in directions.

Great little museum dedicated to Moscow's impressive Metro system. Best thing: it's free, worst thing: most of the explications aren't in English. Still, its an interesting and cheap place to visit.

On a sharp turn, we passed Kalyazin, a small town in the Tver region, known for its dramatic history of being flooded during the construction of the Uglich Reservoir in 1939-1940. This town is often referred to as the "Russian Atlantis" due to the loss of its architectural monuments and historic streets beneath the water. The most famous landmark in Kalyazin is the submerged bell tower of St. Nicholas Cathedral, which stands in the middle of the Volga River. Built in 1800 in the classical style, it was originally part of a monastery. It is 74.5 meters tall and once had 12 bells, the largest of which weighed 8 tons. When the city was flooded, the bell tower was left as a beacon for ships due to the sharp turn of the river at that location. It is said that the largest bell fell into the basement during the dismantling process, and since then it sometimes "rings" on its own, warning of disasters, such as the outbreak of the Great Patriotic War and even the Afghan War. In 2021, the bell tower was restored, the foundation was reinforced, the clock was repaired, and new bells with automatic ringing were installed.

Old Russian fortress of Dmitrov's region.only partly survived due to wooden construction. enjoy the beauty of Uspensky sobor which was appx. build in 1512 and reconstructed and renovated later. The city got lots of hills that makes great photos opportunities.

Historical place. Dmitrov's kremlin is a small one. Merchant's houses are getting fired. Somebody would like to build there trading centers. GOVERNMENT SHOULD TAKE CARE ABOUT THAT!

Great selection of animals (we've been there only in the half on the park, left hand side, didn't have time for "tropical" part). That has exceeded my expectations, nice and spacious place, well arranged. I must say we've been there on the 1st of January so it was almost empty, no visitors. At least that (I mean anything like that working on the the 1st of January) can tell one a lot ;) Nice place to take children but also quite interesting park for adults.

Magnificent zoo, with focus on birds. Many species and not only birds. The otter and the ostrich are also very nice. We visited in winter so half of the animals were hidden. But even the remaining accesible part was so magnificent! We spent several hours here and were much exhaused before we finished the first part of the park. Will be back in spring to see the rest of the animals.

On one of the most famous and largest streets in Moscow, the courtyard of the Zvenigorod Savvino-Storozhevsky monastery is hidden, built in a pseudo-Russian style with elements of modern and baroque. Previously, when walking in the center, it was hard not to notice one of the main decorations of Tverskaya, but in 1939 it was hidden from view. An interesting story is connected with its movement: the building, which weighed 24 tons, was moved deeper into the quarter at night - rails were laid under the foundation and smoothly transported to a new location. At the same time, the residents were not relocated and were not even specially warned. It is said that many of them discovered the change only in the morning, looking out of the window, and must have been very surprised at the unexpected move.

A must-see place for any tourist traveling around Moscow. But do not come here on weekends and church holidays, for crowds will ruin one's experience. If you are lucky, a monk may allow you to come up the bell tower. The view is magnificent. The sound is deafening.

Historical place. Old monastery and a church. Has coffee shop near entrance that serves good food, russian herbal drink. You can also buy lots of herbs and herbal remedies, as well as creams and tinctures. Very crowded on weekend, during weekdays more quiet.

Monastery is ok, but you will find inside the walls a pearl, a bakery shop and a café with amazing pastry,cakes,chocolates, 100% handmade and fresh. Very tasty everything. Queue of ppl to buy bread, etc... But it's worth to do it. It's cheap. Shop and café (you can eat everything you can buy in shop here) has amazing decoration, medieval style. Café is located upstairs, just in one of the towers and a door brings you directly to the walls... really beautiful place to eat/drink/rest.

The place is well-suited both for pilgrims and for tourists. They even have free wi-fi, special app for visitors available for iOS and Android as well, and the food is dietetical and tasty at the same time. As for the architecture, there are several buildings highly valuable from the historical and the aesthetical point of view. To cut the story short, just come and see it for yourself.

Great old holy place.

A magnificent replica of the Resurrection Temple in Jerusalem! An astonishing work of art, and a place that every Orthodox should visit when in Moscow! The monastery is huge, and also has a nice "Trapeza" (small restaurant) where you can have a meal. There's also a free parking just outside the main gate.

Most excellent experience. Awesome atmosophere in and out of the monastery. Most things are all open for visiting for gratis. Walking on the batllements which takes one almost right around the whole compound is must see. The cafeteria is great: quite cheap and offers the home food type of cooking. Excellent.

The newly restored historical monastery is so beautiful, especially taking into account how it looked before the restoration works rook place. It is also not overcrowded and it feels really good to spend some time on the premises. Don't forget to get empty bottles with you as the water you can get in the cathedral from the underground source is simply delicious.

Great place to visit with family and children. Territory is huge and you have real examples of different houses in different centuries. To see everything you need whole day. What is more, you can go to several master classes where you can learn how to do some things. On a territory are some places with different animals. Really sad to see hasky dogs in a cages.

Fun place. But that mostly for organized groups that book tours and kids over 8 yrs old. The cafes are ok. The Korchma with Russian-Ukranian good is supposedly one of best at this locale. Most activities and exhibits inside the general park area are at additional cost. At far above average prices.

This is my first time in Etnomir. So, definitely it is a great place. There are many architecture styles that was merged into Mir Street and hotels. I was extremely impressed by facade of the Nepal hotel. In spite of this feeling with family we were staying in the hotel of East Asia and room was clean and sweet. And as we were lucky with the weather we could visit every place in this huge area and just relax in place that out of carbon dioxide and full of the fresh air in harmony with nature

Lovely place to visit if you are interested in historical Russian architecture and ethnography. Visited with my kids and they were really excited. The area is quite big and has various types of buildings to explore.

Save your precious time and money, almost 80% things are closed due to construction work. I still decided to go, really beautiful place. Can easily reach via Bus No. 7 (use 2GIS app for bus routes and timings).

This is a definite must go if you are in the town of Veliky Novgorod. This outdoor museum provides a pretty good flavour of how Russian houses and buildings in the countryside used to look like in the past. It was also a very pleasant surprise to find out that we could enter the buildings and poke around at the various recreated scenes. Only giving it a 4 stars because two thirds of the museum was closed for restoration when I visited

So impressive with this palace. I went there on autumn 2017. Outside in the morning was so quiet and no signs for tourists where is entrance but Russian pointed over there. Ticket price is 350 rubles for adults. There are 3 floor and 1 basement. Museum keepers was so nice and always try to tell history of this place even my Russian skill is fair.

An interesting tour of the main restored halls and the gardens in the courtyard, many exhibits are replicas (which is mentioned by the tour guide), the halls themselves have standard interiors with luxury and lots of furniture. The area in front of the palace is covered with granite chips with a monument to Paul I. In the courtyard there is a monument to Alexander III with a very interesting design, it is worth a look. It's better to come half an hour before the tour to have time to see the armory and basement, since the second part of the tour involves leaving the museum without the possibility of returning.

The huge palace of Emperor Paul just started to turn into a museum. For a long time there was a naval school. Now museums are much smaller than a quarter of the building, but restoration work is underway. A special impression is left by the private chambers and the office of Emperor Alexander 3. Empress gave this palace to her lover who killed her husband, the emperor. When lover died she gave the palace to her son, who hated her and loved his killed Emperor father. Son became the emperor himself and build a brand new palace-castle where he was killed by his men. Do you still need the GoT if you have real history of Russian Empire?

A stunning and “powerful” view of the Russian border and fortress on the other side of the river. A beautiful castle which went an extensive and beautiful renovation in recent years. Many parts are accessible. A must visit in this hidden gem!

The Narva Museum easily earns a 5-star rating for its sheer historical significance and imposing presence. Set within the massive Hermann Castle, it offers not only a deep dive into centuries of regional history but also breathtaking views across the river to Russia. The exhibitions are well-curated, balancing medieval artifacts with thoughtful presentations on Narva’s complex past. However, it’s worth noting that the experience involves a lot of stairs — winding stone steps, tower climbs, and multiple levels — so comfortable shoes and a bit of stamina are a must.

A beautiful museum, you'll learn about the fortress's history, from the Swedes and Soviets to the present day. I was captivated by the exhibition about the ancient Finno-Ugric peoples, who were destroyed by the Soviets. I highly recommend it!

Nice view from Hermanni Castle yard to the border river between Estonia (EU) and Russia. On Russian side on the other side of the river is Ivangorod Castle with long walls around it. From this river the Russian border guards toke illegally away the floating border marks which were marking the border between Estonia and Russia.

Spectacular castle with great history and very cool towers and walls. Tour is usually 1 hour long, bit time flies, even with kids when going through. Be aware that during summer, it is very warm.

Very well restored in the late 19th century to its former glory. A place worth visiting, a beautiful old castle with an interesting and eventful past. I recommend the guided tour, which lasts 50 minutes.

The city of the Opera and and for those who enjoy history I recommend a visit to the city of Savolinna. The day trip was worth it especially the castle where the 1 church of Finland is. The guide tour saved us time. Though I recommend at least 2-3 days to enjoy the full hospitality of the city. Don't forget to enjoy Muikku or a glass of nice local wines while enjoying the waters at the tori. The hospitality of the city was worth the visit. It's really a summer city.

It is one of the best tourist attractions in the sea town of Kotka. Kotka is already famous as sea port of Finland and Sapokka Water Garden is added feather in its beauty. Though the waterfall looks artificial, and it’s artificial, the scenic beauty around the park is tremendous. The live fishes in the adjacent pool/lake gives it an authentic attraction. It’s not that kid’s friendly that is kids can’t move around unattended. There are some free parking spaces around. You will find some fine dine restaurants around.

Kotka's best-kept magical secret. A waterfall-fed dreamscape disguised as a public park. Feels like stepping into a Miyazaki film—serene, chaotic, natural, and oddly punk. Perfect for a quiet stroll, deep thoughts, or dramatic selfies. Bonus: ducks.

By far one of the best parks, I have visited in all of Finland. Why though? The first reason is the awesome location of the park. Very easily assessable by both, public transport and cars. The park is situated at the tip of the island and the city of Kotka. The second reason is the very beautiful waterfall and the lake where it leads. By far the best waterfall that I have seen in Southern Finland. And the third reason is the beautiful vegetation of the park. There is all from beautiful peonies to cool-looking and well in blending trees.

Well maintained place with beautiful and exotic plants and flowers. I recommend visiting while they bloom. There's big and funny looking fish swimming in the lake, it's find to spot them. There's also small animal statues around the park, the kids will like them.

A lively medieval castle with amusing theatrical presentations by hosts dressed in thematic outfits. Some of the shows are in English, some in Estonian. Very entertaining! Possible to try archery shooting, see some domestic animals. We had fun! Thanks!

Amazing medieval castle ruins. Took the bus from Tallinn just to see them. A lot of activities in the castle grounds, animals, handicrafts, archery etc so something for adults and kids.

If you arrive just before midday you will get to experience the cannon being blasted and then a different experience every half hour, including making a coin and candle, old alchemist show, brothel and more. Well worth the visit. Was so much fun, especially the torture chambers

Amazing experience for the whole family. The daily program is full of fun activities - don't miss the “Cannon Shooting” and “Mercenary Training”, the actors make it unforgettable. We also had a delicious lunch at the tavern inside the castle. The castle really gives you the feeling of being in the Middle Ages. Highly recommend.

Recommend to visit! So many personal inside working and doing it so well that you could feel you are in old times. They do very brilliant story telling. You will get great emotiations there.

Around Rakvere Linnus there are many places to sit down and enjoy the view as there are multiple outdoor theatres aswell as interconnected paths around the castle to walk on. By car, our recommendation is to drive up to the upper parking place if the narrow street up the hill is tolerable. There is also a lower parking place, but it includes climbing up stairs. Not only do we recommend the castle because of great views in, around and on top of the castle walls. There are activities for the whole familiy included in the base ticket. Our association took part in cannon firing and other medival interactive workshops/lectures.

Charming bed and breakfast spot in Porvoo. A shame we only stayed one night but the accomodations were cozy and inviting. The room we stayed in had a kitchen as well as a spacious living room. The living room had a nice view of the river. It was in the center of the town and easily accessible to the old and newer areas of Povoo. This would be a nice place for summer trip with the family.

Very cute B&B along the river in Porvoo, Finland. I stayed in the Star Room, which is a bit separated from the main property. Owner knocked on the door as I arrived. He apparently also owns the nearby restaurant Ranta-aitta, which had its commissary and bathrooms across from the property. Be aware this property and its windows all face an alley that will have fairly heavy foot traffic in the afternoon/evening hours because of the restaurant. I immediately drew all the blinds when I entered the unit. Other than that privacy inconvenience, the location is fantastic, right on the main strip of the old town of Porvoo. Inside the unit you have a nicely functional kitchen and washer/dryer (which I used and was very convenient). There's two bathrooms, one with a shower and one without. Shower is a bit small and confining, but solid. The chairs in the kitchen were not super comfortable and the wifi didn't reach the bedroom very well, so if you need to do something online for a decent amount of time the unit isn't the most ergonomic solution for this situation. There is a piano in the unit! I did not play or know if it was actually encouraged but it's something to consider. There is access to a sauna that's across the street from the main property, which I used. Its heat doesn't get much higher than 60-70ºC but with plentiful water you can get enough steam for a good sweat. Breakfast was solid.

We (two adults) stayed at Ida-Maria in Jan/2021 for two nights in ”Pieni huoneisto, puutarhanäkymä”. The room was lovely, cozy and clean. Delicious breakfast and very good service! All of this in the heart of Porvoo Old Town. Would absolutely recommend to anyone.
