Sensible footwear is important and not really suitable for people with mobility issues as lots of rocky uneven steps. The tower is in ruins and you can see some other areas, but its mostly rocky outcrop. Information boards of the history in French and English. Their is some shaded area to sit and rest and a lower walk around the base.

The tower is a "Must-see" in Gruissan, just for the great views out over the town. The climb up to the tower is slippery, so it would be bad to go on a damp day. Hold on to the railing! there is also a nice trail that goes all the way around the base of the rock.

Super great market full of locals. We came to Narbonne for the grand buffets and and spend some time here on the Sunday. The market has plenty of bars and is pleasantly not to crowded. The breakfast options are endless. Some locals have wine and cold meat platters and others cheese platters or croissants. Many come here to buy there bread and vegetables and then have food in one of the many bars. Absolutely recommended to have a wine with locals and practise a bit of french whilst test the local snacks and wines.

Beautiful cathedral with lots to look at, and information in many languages available near the front of the church. We got tickets to the Treasury and we're not disappointed. On Saturday morning the organist was warming up and it was incredible, not sure if that is every Saturday morning, but to hear that organ was incredible.

Fantastic day out for a sunny or rainy day. It is one of the largest and most impressive castles I have been to. There are loads of interactive games and animations for the children to enjoy. This castle is truly impressive and now offers translated guides and material in English and Spanish as well as French. There is a tour in French which is definitely worthwhile even if you don’t understand the language. €8 per adult and kids go free which is a bargain for the experience. A multi language audio guide would make it a five star experience.

We had a fantastic time at the Réserve Africaine de Sigean! The whole experience was very well organized and thoughtfully designed, giving us the feeling of being on a real African safari. Driving through the park in our own car was a big highlight – not only did it bring us up close to the animals in a unique and exciting way, but it was also a huge advantage with the 35°C heat. Being able to enjoy the experience comfortably from the car made a big difference, especially with kids. The staff were friendly, helpful, and clearly passionate about the animals and their well-being. You can tell the reserve is run with care and professionalism. We truly enjoyed every part of the visit – from the drive-through safari to the walking areas. A perfect mix of adventure, education, and comfort. Highly recommended for families and nature lovers!

A very nice safari parc with a great variety of African wildlife. At some point I almost felt like being on a safari drive. The zoo part is quite small compared to other zoos but has some pretty cool features. I really liked the aviary concept with free roaming birds, sharing their space with alligators. Amazing.

It was a really great experience, drive through the different parts of the Réserve Africaine and see a little of animals that you normally only can see in a normal zoo. After the tour with the car, you also have a different way where you can walk and see many animals. The food at the kiosk is pretty good. At the entrance we had to wait a bit, because they need to check the trunk before you enter and then you can buy the tickets easily at the entrance. To be honest I didn’t see a line where you could enter if you bought your tickets beforehand. There are parking, rest rooms, shops - everything that you may need after a long trip to this place. For sure this experience is worth it.

You might say I was pleasantly surprised that the Castillet was actually well curated and highly interesting. Our group was also fortunate to have the unofficial Mayor of Perpignan Lluis Colet, the great man came out of retirement for the day to be our guide. Be warned the climb to the top is a serious workout but the view from the top is worth the effort.

However, I was expecting a bit more inside — the space is smaller than I imagined, and there’s not much to explore. Still, it’s worth a quick visit for the lovely views and the chance to appreciate its significance to Perpignan.

Beautiful historic military tower located in the heart of the city of Perpignan. It was once part of the city's fortifications and now serves as a museum. The tower is a great example of medieval design, with its imposing walls and impressive gatehouse. Unfortunately, when we arrived, the museum was closed, so we were not able to go inside and explore.

At each part as you go up the stairs it goes into different rooms showcasing different pieces of history about the castle. Overall it is worth visiting as you get great views over Perpignan.

Worth a visit, the tour was good but not cheap. The wine was a little young for our liking, so we put our bottles down for a future date. Cafe is very efficient, recommend you book if you want a restaurant meal.

Beautiful way to spend a few hours. It was not busy when we went and it took us 2 hours to stroll through. Parking was ample and though dogs are not allowed in, I found it nice that they had a few kennels you could store your dog in while you visited. There is a restaurant at the entrance and we grabbed a drink to go, they let us bring it inside. As you walk in toward the abbey, there are planters filled with all kinds of herbs. That area smelled so amazing. You show your ticket to the person at the abbey entrance and they scan it. We did not buy ours in advance but you can. There are guided tours but we just wanted to go at our own pace. It's a beautiful building and the gardens are serene. We got lots of great pics. Definitely a good choice for a sidetrip.

A unique and beautiful place to visit if you are in the area. We followed directions on Google maps and found it quite easily. We arrived at 1pm on a Thursday in August and it was easy to park. Parking is free and they have toilets which are a good size and clean. There is a gift shop and friendly staff who can provide a free guide book in various languages. The shop sells ice cream/lollies but I didn't see a cafe. There is a short walk across the road for about 5-10 minutes to reach the main site, past some interesting metal sculpture, including a large dinosaur which kids will love. The main site itself is beautiful and great for photography. There is a lot of space for children to run around and explore and it all seemed safe. Highly recommended.

Beautiful place! If you've never been to places with naturally formed rock, like the grand canyon, this is impressive. There are plenty of parking spaces, right next to the ticket store. When buying tickets you will get a free flyer in the language of your choosing (I know they support at least French, English, Spanish, Catalan and Dutch). Children and students get a discount. The walk from the ticket store to the site is a little less than one kilometer. On this route there are artworks and vegetation. Unfortunately for us it was even dryer than usual, so there was no water next to the path for us. The fencing looks poorly maintained and could use some work. The site is advertised as an hour long experience (note: not an hour long walk, but a long hour sight), but if you're used to seeing sites like this and are not all too impressed by it, I can guarantee you it'll take less time.

Really worth the visit. Short walk from car park where their are picnic benches. Good for a half day visit with perhaps Castelnou in the same day. Very helpful staff make the visit complete.

5 euro entry is well worth the protection of this beautiful site. Dogs are allowed. It's an easy 10 min walk from the carpark (which has toilets!) And a good visit inside. The lady at the ticket desk was friendly and informative. Recommend visiting as 10 out of 10.

It's a beautiful site! You can take amazing photos there. I've brought my younger brother to visite (I've been there multiple times) and he loved as well! It's a quick visit, you can do this and then go sight see somewhere else! 😉

A must do visit for anyone who loves Cathar history. You can drive up fairly close but still quite a long uphill path to get to the ruins. I can attest the the steps are slippery in the rain.

We came here on a drive 2 hours away from where we were camping. The drive here in itself was worth it with some stunning views. The castle has a car park and toilets. The walk up is quite steep and gravelly and then when you reach the castle it's steps are quite steep and potentially slippery in wet weather. Phenomenal views and a very breezy site!

Historic Cathar castle in the Pyrenees

This is my favourite castle in the region and possibly the most atmospheric of any that I have visited. It was helped by going late and being alone n this forbidding environment. The climb is a challenge if unsteady on your feet but what a view and what an atmosphere. If you only visit one caste in the area then go here.

I bought a number of vinegars, including the ten -year aged one. While the flavor can't compare to what you'll find in Modena, the experience is worthwhile. The Belgian salesman in the tasting room was gracious and instructive. Well worth the visit even if France has not come even close to catching up to the venerable Italian tradition, or even what you'll find in California. I enjoyed my balsamic style vinegar drizzled on a rather good regional foie.

we wanted to try the vinagers and we surely did! the tasting was filled with all the explanations we needed, and we also had some wine tasting. We found very original gifts and discoverd flavors to take with us.

We did a vinegar and wine tasting as a group while staying in the vicinity of Lagrasse. It was a highlight of our trip, a very special experience! Cyril makes a very large range of different boutique vinegars and some very special wines. Everyone in the group ended up buying either some wine or vinegars, or both! I highly recommend stopping in if you are passing through Lagrasse, or making Lagrasse a stop if you are elsewhere in the region.

Interesting concept of an almost-exclusively vinagre store. They also have a selection of oils, mustards, jams, and snacks from local producers but their vinagrettes are definitely the star.

The abbey dating from the medieval times is a real must. So happy to have discovered this abbey after visiting St Hilaire. The old part of the abbey together with the town of Lagrasse was one of the highlights in discovering this beautiful region.

Beautiful little town with a good selection of restaurants and cafe's. Wonder through single lane old cobble streets that have independent craft shops. Its great for children as the river that runs through the town has a designated swimming area with a life guard. Take goggles to explore the river bed and fish as the water is crystal clear.

The place is really beautiful. We can see how they are trying hard to preserve the place. If you happen to be there in summer you can actually dive in the river( not so deep) just below the abbaye so make sure to take your bathing suit. We will certainly come back to visit the private sector of the abbaye. The entrace fee is affordable.

A medieval town, church and castle on top of a mountain with lots of history, well worth a visit.

It is a difficult walk in the heat but the castle is beautiful. There are great views and the option of an audio guide you can get at the office near the car park. The hikes (there are two, one to the fortress and another to the chapel) are steep and beautiful. Hiking shoes are recommended for good reason. The views are spectacular. The history is fascinating, but you'll want to find it online or through an audio or individual guide. Take water.

It’s one of the 5 ‘sons of Carcassonne’ - the great ancient castles near the amazing city. This one is in the best condition and is at the most height within its ‘brothers’. Very interesting place to have a look.

Ah nice little historical tourist trap. The drive up is a workout for your car and bike. make sure your cooling works. Its a ruin and cost 7 euro to enter. After entering its about a 1.5km hike on a small rocky path which i don't think is suitable for people with knee or health issues.

So many castles and so many views. This region is magical if you love history and nature. We walked from the gravel car park halfway back to town and it was hard work in the heat. Even the last part from the kiosk is quite a walk but well worth the effort. These are probably the best remains of any of the Cathar castles we have visited and one immense view after another. Mix this one with Queribus and a visit to Cucugnan for a fantastic day.

Very easy path to get down, take about 14 mins and you can come back in the same path or go up and around to a smaller carpark and walk back to the main car park on the road.

Beautiful place. Nice drive and walk down to the water. Fresh water for a cooling down when needed. Try to go when the sun will be overhead as it is quickly blocked out by the surrounding cliffs later in the summer days. Would definitely go again. Take a good picnic and wear swimming shoes. Kids will love it.

We had an incredible experience with Elsa canyoning in Galamus canyon. Would recommend to anyone!

Today we had a very good canyoningtrip with a group of 8 people (14-47 years old). For the most of us it was the first time canyoning. It was nice that shoes were included, so we didn't have to bring our own. Before you enter the water, you have to walk 20 minutes down the road, and afterwards you have a to climb back up for 10 minutes, so it's great you can borrow good shoes. The climbing, slides and jump were great, also for the people who were scared of hights. You could choose to jump from a high rock or to stay a little bit lower. Anthony was a great guide and he took lots of pictures. Thanks for this nice day Antony!

My son Wiebe (16) and I had a great time together with guide Philippe. It was adventurous, fun and we also felt safe in a beautiful natural setting. We loved the high jumps! It was extremely hot - but we managed well with a group of ten. Highly recommended, maybe even especially at hot days like today, because in the canyon it was cool.

An absolute highlight. The castle town is like in every childrenbook. Wouldn't be surprised, if a dragon arrives🙂. It is really like in a tale. All the towers with the roofs and the big large walls. A walk along the wall is more than 3km and take about 1 hour. Its included in the castle entrance. The cite can be freely visited all time. The castle is separate and has normal ooening hours. Entrance is 19€. But its worth it. You get a lot infos on boards with drawings about defense systems and reconstruction of the site. The cite is full of shops, bars and restaurants.An cathedral can also be visited. I recommand 2 visits. One fir castle and wall. Other in the evening for diner.

This is an amazing place to visit, lots to see. I would encourage anyone going to visit the castle and get the audio guide. So much information to listen to, both in the castle and and as you walk the walls. It really explains the history and development of the place. There's far less info on the few signs dotted about. Lots of places to eat and buy souveineers in the city and so many things to photograph.

The full fairytale experience....... As we we crossed the lovely old bridge from the lower town, we got our first glimpse of the walls of the medieval city, the walk up is quite enjoyable, passing a streets full of eateries enticing passer-by's with the local favourite.........., it is easy to spend a whole day within the walls, starting with a guided tower, visiting the basilica and learning all about the the history with enjoyable stories, next is the not missed, walking the walls/ramparts, a visit to the Medieval camp, is fun, just not for the kids, there are many restaurants, however our go to is the cite boulangerie, the bread is divine and there are many treated to be tempted with to finish the day, just walking the cobblestone streets, watching the kids with there sword and shield, wearing a helmet walking the streets sourced from the many souvenir shops. all in all a wonderful experience.

A really cool place to visit in the fall when the tourists are gone. I walked around at my leisure then took the Privilege tour which takes us in basements and other restricted areas to learn more about the history of the place. It was worth it. The only mild disappointment was the restaurants. I nearly cried when I realized that I can make a better cassoulet than what I had been served. I love cassoulet and was hoping to have an out of body experience in the birthplace of this dish. It was ok but not mind-blowing... If you like jogging, there's a nice trail around the walls where I enjoyed gorgeous views. In shoer, great place to visit but eat in town if you want to experience gastronomy.

Wonderful"village" inside the walls, free to enter, not too busy and very historic, full of food outlets, and seemed to be reasonably priced. Beware if cycling up and leaving bikes outside, we parked and there was a cut lock on the cycle stand, when we came back another couple returned and they had had their bikes stolen, seemingly a few minutes before we arrived, so ensure you have a very secure lock.

We spent a couple of days here and found it absolutely amazing. Lots to do and see. Shops and restaurants in abundance. The evening walk on the ramparts along with the light show was amazing

Very good tour through the castle with a great walk on the walls of Carcassonne. We spent here about 2 hours. The price was 19€ per person without an audio guide. But there were plenty of explanations written in English so for us no guide was totally fine.

Legendary & Epic Castle This is by far my favourite castle in France. I visited a lot but this one is special. What I like is the fact it is Medieval and so well preserved. It is very grand too. One of the largest around the world. You can feel the middle ages here and really appreciate what it must have been like to live in those days. Highly recommended to visit.

Perfect on a sunny day..... A visit to the Medieval City is not complete, without doing the walk along the ramparts/walls and visiting the museum/castle. It is well worth the cost. We went early 0930, opening time, to beat the crowds, we actually had the walls to ourselves for the first 30 minute, we took our time, and totally enjoyed the experience.

Carcassonne and its castle are must-see sites if you're visiting Occitania in southern France. The day we were there, the place was swarming with tourists from all over the place, and with good reason, because there's so much rich history there. A beautiful church in the medieval world city Carcassonne. As you enter, there are many signs in different languages requesting total silence, which is wonderful as many churches in Europe are cursed with chattering tourists, making a solemn visit difficult. As this is primarily a place of worship people were very respectful and there were quite a few people in solemn contemplation and prayer in the church.The architecture is beautiful the stained glass windows, amazing, and the spaces light and airy. A wonderful place to visit for some quiet contemplation and appreciation of this beautiful ancient structure.

Came here during the 25th anniversary of the Carcassonne board game for a weekend and had the best time. Your €13 entry fee gives you access into the Palace and also the ramparts. The construction of this protective wall and the buildings with in it is astounding. The walk on the ramp parts takes about an hour, and there are quite a few steps up and down to get to experience levels. There are also a few levels in the palace, but there are plenty of rest stops along the way. Be sure and have your camera and take your time as there is so many beautiful pictures to be had of the ancient city, but also Carcassonne and the surrounding countryside. On a beautiful day, the views are astonishing. This is a highly recommended to her to take. There are also audio guides and you can also get your own tour guide but wander around by yourself is wonderful.

Wow! Takes your breath away just wandering around the place trying to imagine it several hundred years ago. It's spectacular, really. I'd have it on par with Windsor Castle in my list of top Castles to visit.

Highly recommend visiting the city and exploring it for yourself, don’t forget to try cassoulet!

This is the most extraordinary medieval world city. It has a UNESCO world heritage listing and has been restored to a very high level of quality. Your €13 entry fee gives you access into the Palace and also the ramparts. The construction of this protective wall and the buildings with in it is astounding. The walk on the ramp parts takes about an hour, and there are quite a few steps up and down to get to experience levels. There are also a few levels in the palace, but there are plenty of rest stops along the way. Be sure and have your camera and take your time as there is so many beautiful pictures to be had of the ancient city, but also Carcassonne and the surrounding countryside. On a beautiful day, the views are astonishing. This is a highly recommended to her to take. There are also audio guides and you can also get your own tour guide but wander around by yourself is wonderful.

Wow! Takes your breath away just wandering around the place trying to imagine it several hundred years ago. It's spectacular, really. I'd have it on par with Windsor Castle in my list of top Castles to visit.

The castle within the medieval city is a must visit, it is included with the wall (ramparts), walk, there is a bit to see spread out, however, an enjoyable experience.

Fantastic to visit, well worth the price and the audio commentary is well worth paying for. Just go early (around 12 noon) as you have to return the audio guides at around 4 and there's a lot to get through

Winery visit: it is impossible to overstate the warmth of hospitality of Joe and Liz! We arrived as strangers, and left feeling like family. The winery tour was everything we could have hoped for: starting with a chilled glass of white on the terrace overlooking the hills, tasting grapes on the vine about to be harvested, a tour of the equipment, pouring wines straight from the tank and dipping a cask, with Joe telling anecdotes about the history as well as explaining how it’s done. Finally Liz’s amazing and generous cooking in their beautiful dining room, including her home-cured salmon. She even tweaked the menu to ensure that our young Asian friends got a home-cooked rice dish. Convivial doesn’t begin to describe it. Thankfully, Liz also arranged with our taxi driver to come back rather later than originally planned 😂. Practical note: it’s about 20 minutes drive from Carcassonne and they can recommend taxi drivers.

Such an amazing experience. Liz and Joe were the most gracious hosts and treated my partner and I exceptionally. With an incredibly informative tour, exceptional food and world class wine. Anything written in this review doesn't do the evening we spent with them enough credit to an unforgettable night and lovley people. If we ever have the opportunity of being in the region again, we will be returning.

We had a wonderful time at O Vineyards with Liz andJoe and a delicious dinner! After enjoying a glass of wine with Liz and Joe's other guests we were treated to a vineyard and celler tour while Liz prepared dinner. The property is beautiful and the views are breathtaking! Joe showed us where he makes the wine and explained the process of winemaking. We had several barrel and tank tastings during our tour. Dinner was fantastic and Liz is a very accomplished chef! The whole evening was so personal and so much fun! Thank you Liz and Joe for such a memorable visit!

We booked the tour of the winery and the dinner. Joe and liz were wonderful hosts, making us feel so welcome as soon as we arrived. Liz prepared us a fantastic 3 course meal and accommodated our dietary requirements. The scenery and setting was superb and the trip here was the highlight of a brilliant trip to carcassonne. We will definitely go back to this vineyard in the future and hopefully book an overnight stay there. Highly recommend.

We did an absolutely amazing tour of the vineyards here. We didn’t stay, which I now wish we had. The tour was great, very informative Joe really knows his stuff, the wine was delicious, we will definitely be ordering some, and we did the Merrymaking tour so had delicious food prepared by Liz. Joe and Liz were such a welcoming and friendly couple and we had lovely fun conversations with them too. I would recommend this tour to anyone, in fact go sooner rather than later as Joe and Liz told us they will only being doing it for another few years.

We had the most wonderful afternoon with Joe the owner of the vineyard! Learnt so much!!! Enjoyed the journey of his wine!! Then this wife served a wonderful platter of food which we ate overlooking the vineyard. Amazing two hours, highly recommend.

Wow what can I say our second visit to this amazing family run vineyard . Liz and Joe made us feel like part of the family . The food was wonderful and the wine excellent . The love and hard work that goes into making this wine really shows . We will definitely be returning so thank you Liz and Joe and see you soon .
