As Ahmad Shah was returning home after his historic victory over the Marathas in the third battle of Panipat in 1761, the Sikhs had harassed him all the way from the River Sutlej right up to the Indus Valley. When the Sikhs returned to central Punjab, they ravaged the country all around, annihilated the Afghan force in Char Mahal, drove away the Faujdar (General) of Jalandhar, plundered Sirhind and Malerkotia, defeated a force which was 12,000 strong, sent by Ahmad Shah from Afghanistan to punish them and another led personally by the Afghan governor of Lahore, and even captured Lahore, all within a short period, June-September 1761. At a general assembly (Sarbat Khalsa) of the Dal at Amritsar convened on the occasion of Bandi Chhor Divas, 27 October 1761, it was resolved to punish the agents, informers and collaborators of the Afghans, beginning with Aqil Das of Jandiala, head of the heretical Niranjania sect and an inveterate enemy of the Sikhs. Aqil Das dispatched messengers hastily to Ahmad Shah Durrani, who had in fact already entered India at the head of a large army. Meanwhile, the Sikhs had besieged Jandiala, 18km east of Amritsar. Aqil Das’s messengers met the Shah at Rohtas. The latter advanced at a quick pace but before he reached Jandiala, the Sikhs had lifted the siege and retired beyond the River Sutlej with the object of sending their families to the safety of the wastelands of Malwa before confronting the invader. Ahmad Shah, on the other hand, determined to teach the Sikhs a lesson, sent messages to Zain Khan, Faujdar (General) of Sirhind, and Bhikhan Khan, Chief of Malerkotia, directing them immediately to check and halt the Sikhs’ advance, while he himself taking a light cavalry force set out at once, covering a distance of 200 km including two river crossings in fewer than 48 hours, caught up with the Sikhs who were encamped at Kup Rahira, 12km north of Malerkotia, at dawn on the 5th of February 1762. The Dal Khalsa, comprising all of the 11 Misls and representatives of the Sikh Chiefs of Malwa, was taken by surprise. The attacks of Zain Khan and Bhikhan Khan were easily repulsed, but the main body of Ahmad Shah, much larger and better equipped, soon overtook them. Having to protect the slow moving baggage train comprising of belongings, women, children, old men and other noncombatants, the Sikhs could not resort to their usual hit and run tactics, and a stationary battle against such superior numbers was inadvisable. On the day of the attack (February 5th ,1762) Zain Khan attacked with his 20,000 men and artillery. Ahmad Shah also joined the attack with 30,000 horsemen. Sardar Jassa Singh and Sardar Charat Singh ordered the Khalsa Army to encircle the women, children and elders and keep proceeding towards Barnala as a war strategy. The Khalsa Army’s only aim was to save the Sangat somehow and fight with enemy to inflict maximum losses on their end. In this process the Khalsa Army suffered heavy casualties.

We visited the temple on a Sunday and believe me it was too crowded. We don't get to see the deity properly as the priests will literally push you away. Frankly speaking, cleanliness of the surroundings of the temple needs to be worked on...it was littered with garlands, wine bottles and Puja items. If these things are not allowed inside the temple..then it must be restricted.

Added attraction is the chirping of birds which has just about gone extinct in our concrete jungle of the city. Hugely popular for songs and film shoots of Pollywood and Bollywood. You can find innumerable species of flora in the vast space. As the name suggests this garden had 12 entrances. Parking available at many entrances. Rides and games available for children. Hugely popular in Sunday’s’ and holidays. Open air gym is also very popular with all age groups. But it needs regular maintenance. Some of the equipment are not in proper working order. Cafeteria and clean toilets available. Must visit place in the summers. There is a marked difference in atmospheric temperature as you enter this garden

Gujri Mahal in Hisar, Haryana, was built by Firoz Shah Tughlaq in the 14th century. He constructed it for his beloved wife, Gujri, who was from a local pastoral community. Reason for Construction: When Firoz Shah Tughlaq was on a hunting expedition in the Hisar region, he fell in love with Gujri. However, she refused to move to Delhi, so he built Gujri Mahal for her in Hisar itself. The palace was part of the larger Hisar-e-Firoza fort complex, which he developed to establish Hisar as a strategic and administrative center. Today, Gujri Mahal is in ruins, but its historical significance remains as a symbol of medieval architecture and Tughlaq’s devotion to his queen.

Entry ticket only Rs. 20 per adult. Opens at 09.00 hrs to 13.00 & 15.00 hrs to 17.00 hrs except Monday or Tuesday. Road side parking available at owners risk. Very nice place to visit for updating knowledge.

Beautiful Haveli with amazing fresco paintings and ambiance. Owned by a French family who bought it from the original Indian ownner 16 years back and took 6 years to restore to it's present glory. At present a caretaker manages the property and owner comes once a year from France. Entry ticket is 100rs and open from 10am to 6pm.

Amazing experience at Baisa's Adventures, grooming and riding the horse. It's a unique idea giving new riders a taster and long lost ones a reconnect. I used to ride years ago, and this was a good way to restart. Dundlod Fort was a travel back in time. Great place to stay.

Best place to visit and watch the traditional art forms of our culture in the form of painting. How rich was our culture at that time and it's the need of the hour to protect our heritage. Thanks to Podar family for preserving it.

This place is closed now as the ownership has changed but when I visited, the place was huge and very pretty. Walking wasn’t a hassle but there were a few upward slanting ways to go through before reaching the main entrance. There is also a Balaji mandir at the entrance of the fort so do take his blessings. The caretaker gave a personalised tour of the place when I visited, thank you for that. He was sweet and polite and gave info about the place. It was also neat and tidy with the paint still intact on the inside. Wish it was open now too but it isn’t. Lucky I got to see it before it closed.

I recently visited Salasar Balaji Dham, and it was a very peaceful and satisfying experience. The darshan was smooth and didn’t take much time – around 10 to 15 minutes, which made the whole visit very comfortable. The temple atmosphere is truly divine, and being in front of Balaji Maharaj felt very special. One thing I really appreciated was the parking facility. On normal days, except Tuesdays and Saturdays when the crowd is very heavy, there is plenty of parking space available near the temple. This makes the journey a lot easier, especially if you are coming with family. The temple surroundings are also well managed, and the shops around make it convenient to buy prasad or other items. Overall, my visit was memorable and left me with a sense of calm and positivity. It’s definitely a place worth visiting, whether you are going for darshan, spiritual peace, or just to experience the energy of such a sacred place. I would highly recommend planning your visit on weekdays for a smoother experience and to avoid the heavy rush.

This temple is incredibly peaceful and soothing to the mind. Located at the top of the mountain, it offers a serene experience. I highly recommend going by bike, as you'll feel the refreshing wind on your face and get to enjoy the scenic beauty of the mountains along the way, including the roundabout. The journey itself adds to the charm of the visit!

I did level 1 in december 2023. It was a really good experience. Staff and teachers are very sweet. Interesting Lectures were given by sadhvi ji and shramani ji . You will learn about way of living, thought process, about your body and its relaxation, stress management, techniques to meditate and many more life lessons. It is for every1 (young or old) and level 1 is only for 7 days. You should go for it.
