I went to this farm for Midsummer 2024. A beautiful, peaceful and lovely place. The Midsummer ceremony was wonderful and I enjoyed it. 😍 Thanks for everything

An 1000 year old Manor with a history going back to the stone ages. Beautiful gardens and excellent views. Staff are very friendly and welcoming and knowledgeable. I recommend you to visit the gardens and museums but take some time to visit like an afternoon, the whole afternoon. Walk around eat lunch and have a afternoon tea or coffee later and enjoy the surroundings . It’s so worth it.

Beautiful place and lots of history. The entrance price may seem a little expensive, but it's totally worth it as you can spend an entire day inside this place, learning, walking, eating, having a coffee, taking pictures and short tours. Definitely worth a visit if you're nearby.

Wonderful park to stroll around in and explore the various old houses collected in the region and placed here. Incredible flower arrangements, well trimmed hedges etc. a very nice park environment. If you get hungry, check out the Wärdshus which is located just outside the entrance.

Vingåkers Factory Outlet AB

Clothing store
Shopping
Expansive outlet store offering brand-name attire & accessories for men, women & kids, plus a cafe.
I bought my suit for attending a wedding here. I assumed that if I went to one of the expensive stores in Stockholm, I'd get the same kind of quality, but with a lot of consultation that I'd have to pay for with the higher prices, and wanted to try if I can find a good suit at this outlet without any consultation, but saving a lot of money this way. As someone who has never worn a suit, i had a rough idea of what to look out for and which brands were considered high quality. But after an hour i was still somewhat lost and hadn't found a great option. There are loads of suits, differing in loads of ways. And my body is not that of a fashion model, so if the shoulders fit perfectly, I couldn't close the jacket and vice versa. Surprisingly, I was approached by a young man working there who offered to help me, which I assumed was not a thing at a cheap outlet store. He went on to help me for a ridiculously long time until we had found jacket, pants and shirt that all fit me and fit together. He was super knowledgeable about the different brands, how they are cut differently and how they differ from other brands in how wide they are around the waist or the shoulders etc. Again, not something I'd expect at a cheap outlet. Overall it was a really really good customer experience, the person was very knowledgeable, and also very respectful in how he talked about the difficulties that my mid section brought about. Big recommendation.
Sebastian G — Google review
We received a USED pair of pants with tags on them... Do they usually scam people like that, because it's never happened to us before. They'll be receiving everything back with special complaints. Shame on them! It was the first and last time buying from them. The clothes also didn't correspond to their size. We bought clothes we've owned before and we're sure about the size. The packaging was also poor. I would not recommend this online... store and if I had the opportunity to rate with 0 stars I would.
Areti A — Google review
A large outlet store with clothes for all ages. There are many different brands here that I don't know. The prices are quite high in my opinion, but I managed to find training socks at a very good price. 👍 It is a bit unstructured and difficult to navigate among different garments.
I Q — Google review
The outlet is just what you’d expect plenty of clothing options at really good prices. I recommend coming here if you’re looking to buy clothes at a bargain. The factory is huge and offers all kinds of clothing for different styles and needs. However, I wasn’t too impressed with their shoe selection. I was specifically looking for loafers, but couldn’t find any. Don’t forget to check out their “Fyndtält” as well an outlet within the outlet where you can find even better deals.
Dario J — Google review
I wrote a review of this place around 3-4 years ago and it was a 1 star rating. We recently visited. Oh how much has changed since visiting last. They seem to have rearranged the shop since my last visit. The place seemed more organised and tidier. We visited the on site cafe for lunch and the food was nice and very well priced. The staff were also so friendly. Something I cannot remember from the last time we were here. My partner and son managed to buy a few pieces of clothing and shoes for a good price. Myself I just came away with a belt due to being too fussy with my clothing requirements. For me the mens clothing I looked at lacked too much in the quality department. Hence them being in the outlet for that reason I imagine. Well done to the staff there :-)
Scott J — Google review
Lots of clothes for men, women and children. The first time I saw so many jackets, trousers and suits in one place
Alex W — Google review
Made a little detour that day just to come have a look at this Outlet. We were looking for some Saki coats or jackets, which are quite pricey in our country. The Outlet didn't look like much from outside, but don't let the plain look fool you. There is a huge selection of numerous big brands. And many many at low prices. You can spend a huge amount of money in here. We got what we came for. A nice Saki coat and jacket. Both almost 50% down from our prices at home. A great Outlet. For Her or Him. There's a restaurant across the road (BBQ) or a Hot Dog / Sausage stand just at the entrance (which did fine snacks for little money).
Alex H — Google review
It has alot of good stuff but the big outlet iself is an average for finding the best prices. The fynd behind the store is usually the most interesting. At least for guys who are looking for business suits of brands like tiger of Sweden.

Very nice open air museum. Have many shops with unique souvenir
Suwichaya B — Google review
Its a great idyllic area beside the big park in our town and perfect for a place to relax and enjoy some historical buildings in a cozy athmosphere, both for tourists and locals in all ages. There is just one thing missing and that is...longer opening hours during the summer! Its way too early to close everything at 5pm in such a lovely place during high season when people are enjoying summer nights.
Johan — Google review
Gentle fun for the kids, with historical buildings to look around. Nice ice cream shop, cafe and a shop selling lots of things for kids, crystals Harry Potter stuff, some homeware. There’s a big park next to this place, with playgrounds and a water splash playground that’s free to use. Big hit in the summer! Easy parking nearby. A fun and not very demanding afternoon for the kids.
Steve C — Google review
We were out for a walk and happened to find the market that day. The atmosphere was perfect, with lots of delicious food. Although I can’t really judge Wadköping without the market, since we were so lucky to be there that day, I must say it was a very pleasant surprise. Still, the place itself is very beautiful and definitely worth a visit.
Susana C — Google review
A must-visit point in Örebro. Very lovely Swedish village open air museum. Besides cottages, there are shops, cafes, bakeries and restaurants. You can have nice time there.

Örebro Castle

Castle
Sights & Landmarks
Fortress
Örebro Castle, a riverside medieval fortress, has stood for over seven centuries as a dominant feature of the city's skyline. Originally built as a defense castle and later transformed into a royal residence, it now serves as the home of the county governor. Visitors can explore its history through guided tours and family-friendly activities. The surrounding area offers picturesque views and dining options, making it an ideal destination for an enriching day out.
I stopped just for a quick lunch in Örebro and the castle and the surroundings of the city was a great surprise. Stunning place. It was worth exploring and walking around. Louis of cool dining places, cafes, bars, restaurants around. Castle function more like arts exhibition.
Danijs B — Google review
700 years old Castle itself on the river, which is perfect for day trip or discovery beautiful cafe down there! We didn’t have time visit inside but, there’s something going on these summer days, if you check programme on their website 👍
Altansuvd A — Google review
The castle is beautiful and I like the surrounding small islands. Exhibition wise its not the best but not bad either, I think its nice that there is information about the castle’s history with some fun facts. We saw the witch exhibition as well which was very well done even tho it was not always based on facts. It had a nice atmosphere!
Réka B — Google review
Örebro castle is very good in outside view. It was really nice from outside. But once you entered to the inside, literally there is nothing to see. They had only few mini models of city, castle which has covered with glasses. Other than that a drawing area for kids and stories of witches who has been in history and was doing black magic. All stories were interested to read but they are stories which no one has proof of anything. I don't think this place deserves more stars as it only good from outside only⭐. But still good place for someone who interests with these witches related stories.
Dmm B — Google review
We enjoyed our visit to Orebro Castle. It was much better than we expected. Of course there is plenty of history on the castle and Orebro. But they also had a very well done witches exhibit. The dungeon was very cool. But be prepared for stairs. Swedish and English are both used throughout the castle.
Brian K — Google review
A night to remember for my husband and I. Thank you Candlelight! ✨ Recommend to take stage A, much better view. Will do that next time we’ll book. 🌸
Jozefina L — Google review
Dear San Franciscan, Welcome to Sweden. This is one of the drop off and pick up site for us when we are in Örebro. This is a small castle. We arrived around 5pm and must leave by 7pm. So, we only utilized this town to get dinner nearby. We went inside the castle, but it was closed and there was not lots to observe. I noticed there’s an increase of smokers in this town.

Örebro Castle is a beautifully preserved medieval fortress located in central Sweden. Overlooking the Svartån River, it offers a blend of history and charm. Gustavsvik Resorts AB

Water park
Water & Amusement Parks
Gustavsvik Resorts AB is a popular water park located in Orebro, Sweden, offering a wide range of thrilling rides and attractions for visitors of all ages. The city of Orebro itself is known for its rich history, cultural sites, and natural beauty, including the iconic Orebro Castle dating back to the 13th century. In addition to the castle, tourists can explore other attractions such as the expansive Wadkoping open-air museum showcasing traditional Swedish architecture.
This place was the most fun. It had at least six different water rides and each one was fun. Watch out for the hurricane, protect your head and you'll enjoy it a lot more. And also on the yellow and blue striped slide, river run. Try it out first in a single person tube, you have more control that way. Than if you're feeling more adventurous, try it two people. My daughter and I had the most fun there today and the aesthetic is just awesome.
Kathy J — Google review
Nice place to relax near by stockholm if you want to have good time with family and friends. Place has got basic amenities that any camping site would have. It has pool areas that are covered in accommodation packages. The attraction lost city has separate entry ticket. A one night, two day stay seems quite adequate to experience a change from my busy schedule.
Karan M — Google review
Really fun and nice, after lunch it was long queues to all the slides and quite crowded in the river, this was during the high season. Being able to checkout from the parking and money on the wrist band is more of a limit since you only pay for what you use, very convenient.
Stefan H — Google review
⸻ “The worst experience I’ve ever had was trying the highest slide — it nearly killed me. I hit the back of my head hard inside the slide and genuinely thought I was going to die. When we asked the guards if this was normal, they casually replied, ‘Yes, it happens to a lot of people.’ 😵‍💫 That response shocked me even more. How can something so dangerous be ‘typical’?” Where’s the safety!!!!
Heba H — Google review
I was negatively surprised by the safety of this water park. There is no staff to look for the rides - there are just time-based lamps. If someone is stuck inside, tge next person will crash into you. It happened to me twice during one visit!! I was riding the snake and the yellow ride and I just stopped on the flat parts. I tried quickly to push myself to go forward, but too late - the next person crashed into me. Luckily without any serious injuries, becauae the yellow ride is quite slow (altough it was an adult man who hit me legs straight), and on the snake I was lucky - he managed to kind of swing when meeting me and did not hit me so much. At the hurricane I experienced the same as in other reviews - snapping my neck at the bottom part. Then the Lost City part - I really did not understand what it was. It has rounded PAINTED CONCRETE walls. The flow takes you towards the wall, where you have the choice to hit your foot and ankle or scratch your side, because the paint is chipped in some places and in general is not the smoothest, besides the fact that it's solid concrete ?? I got some bruises trying to get down. The three top rides are fine, besides the fact that at one of them the signal lamp did not work and it said just wait 30 seconds. How would a person who just arrived know when did 30 seconds start? The areas around the pools have some stone blocks (again concrete) scattered around with sharp angles, I was genuinely scared for the kids running around. I was really surprised and I couldn't imagine such a park in Sweden. I was not too much disappointed because the price was cheap (~195sek per person on Sunday) and I did not suffer too much damage.
Ekaterina — Google review
Great activity for winter Mire suits for older kids than kids around 1-3 years old. Clean, organised, and helpful staff. I would recommend it. At least one-time visit is worth it.

Alfred Nobels Björkborn

Museum
History Museums
We find Björkborn Manor incredibly interesting and charming. The property and the displayed items and furniture are very thoughtfully curated and we did learn a lot.. Impressive highlight - the collection of wonderful carvings on a lot of the furniture. We have visited the museum on a bank holiday and had private english speaKing guide and she was exceptionally kind and knowlegable!
DESISLAVA D — Google review
Awesome experience Mr Nobel stayed here for 3 years his house is converted to a museum and saw his beautiful picture and the story around his life was wonderful to hear. It's located on very beautiful place and besides his companies and his lab. We saw all his inventions and it was amazing. It's a must visit place in karlskoga as this place was very near to his heart. The most iconic thing are the tanks.
Viral S — Google review
Very nice place! but as I got to know from the guide it’s only three summers that Alfred Nobel have been living in the place, so there is no too much to see. My favorite was the lab that he built there, I will try to put som photos.
M.B S — Google review
I expected a lot, but was very dissappointed, especially by the cost. The entrance fee is waaaaay too high for what you get, snd you have to pay extra for the fun part … the experiments. The house is nice, but not very special and the laboratory is ok, but NOT worth the entrance fee.
Tom B — Google review
Very interesting place with many fascinating stories to read about and listen to. The guides speak excellent English and signage is available in English as well as Swedish. The museum is beautifully furnished and the tour is very exciting with many stories about Nobel and his family told about different periods of his life. The laboratory building is also very well presented and has examples of the Nobel prizes and dinnerware out. There’s also a cafe available and a gift shop. Really enjoyed our visit and would recommend to anyone.
Triin M — Google review
The museum was very nice, highly recommend the tour. The guide is very knowledgeable and tells the story very entertaining. We went to the 2 pm English spoken tour 😀 The experiment area at the laboratorium was good fun as well, even for adults 😁

I didn't know much about Alfred Nobel or his family. I didn't realise how his idea for prizes was opposed by all the institutions, and I didn't realise he was so clear about peace.

(Translated by Google) Closed so food and service I can't say anything about. The place is beautifully located with a nice view down to the lake, lovely garden and benches to sit outside at. Cool architecture, with the slightly unusual design language and colorful roof. Was at the exhibition in 1992 in Seville so really nice to see the house again in this environment. (Original) Stängt så mat och tjänst kan jag inte säga något om. Platsen är vacker belägen med fin utsikt ner mot sjön, härlig trädgård och bänkar att sitta utom vid. Art gallery

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Sandgrund Lars Lerin is a riverfront gallery in Karlstad, Sweden, dedicated to the captivating works of contemporary watercolor artist Lars Lerin. Lerin is celebrated for his legendary watercolor and oil paintings, graphic arts, and mesmerizing photographs. The gallery showcases his phenomenal watercolor landscapes as well as other works such as oil paintings, drawings, collages, and photographs from his travels around the world.
I'm not a huge fan of art but visited the gallery whilst on holiday in the area whilst staying with my sister. And what a delight! I was staggered by the artist's hand, such talent and even more special knowing he's a local chap too. I've read some of the other reviews and yes, glass covers so make viewing some pictures slightly awkward because of the glare, and the spot lights do shine a bit annoyingly on others, but neither of these 2 factors spoilt the artist's effect or removed any of the enjoyment of admiring the exhibits. I was, by the end, totally in awe of Mr Lars Lerin. I understand from my sister, that the exhibits change during the course of the year to help keep the gallery interesting for those who like to visit regularly. There was an exhibition space for admire artist, oil paintings, which actually I didn't enjoy so much, because of Lars work being so amazing! I actually thought the gallery space and manner of hanging pictures on the wall with nails added to the experience. Little coffee shop incorporated is a great addition.
Tracey B — Google review

Impressive artworks by Lars Lerin, but the museum should be organized a bit better and give some info on what is displayed
Ludovica S — Google review
Love his works! Museum ok, but I wish the pictures could be hung up properly. Some artworks were just stapled directly to a shabby wall.
Line S — Google review
Very nice that Lars Lerin got his own museum, its really interesting to learn more about his life. His paintings are just not my type of art because he mostly uses very dark colours like black, grey or dark blue.
Sarah S — Google review
A lovely surprise. Modern art that I love. It has separated after different topics..and one even for gay people. Loved it very much

Although the work of Lars Lerin is very prolific and interesting, the Sandgrund gallery/museum is a total disaster in term of exhibiting art pieces. No signage, no information, no curating what so ever. The lighting is extremely bad as it looks like a basic office space, the art pieces aren’t protected, most of the time nailed directly on the wall ( damaging the paper irremediably) or placed in between bad quality glass (which is sometime broken) A ladder or some trash cans seem to be forgotten here and there, and not to talk about the horrible plywood walls where the art pieces are hanged: poorly repainted, some holes, old plaster, tape... I find it crazy to pay an entrance fee for such a poor way of showing art.

Located near the library on Sandgrundsudden, Värmlands Museum is a captivating attraction split between two distinct buildings. The museum's multimedia displays offer an immersive journey through local history and culture from ancient times to the present day, covering topics such as music, the river, forests, and textiles. With over 40,000 well-preserved artifacts and 9,000 artworks on display, visitors can explore the city's rich heritage through photographs and interactive exhibits.
Great small art museum with a permanent collection about life and artists from the region, however during my visit they had a retrospective of Jāzeps Grosvald's fascinating life drawing in the midst of WWII and an excellent exhibit of modern artist Kristina Jansson whose work was stunning.
Brent E — Google review
An ambitious and mainly well-designed museum (with all info in the historical exhibition in both Swedish and English) where a few too many spelling errors, missing props, technical issues, and vandalised signs lessen the visitor's experience. Also far, far too cold in the exhibition halls (historical artifacts may require it I guess, but why in a photo display?). Good taste in exhibition material, though.
Simon L — Google review
They should have had more about Karlstad history, I think the art museum was boring. Lars Lerin is far better

There are some art work by artists and impressive thing is each artist has his or her own place to show or exhibit what he likes to. Also museum has some clues about how life starts in karlstad.

Nice museum with very different things to see and do (for kids, go to the second floor). Library closed for maintenance (19 aug 2021). Clean toilets. Free lockers. Nice museumshop en good restaurant. Visit will take between 2 and 3 hours. Entry free of charge for people younger then 25 years.

The park features walking trails that wind through forests and meadows, leading to Naturum Varmland nature center where visitors can explore the natural environment and climb a watch tower for birdwatching.
Lovely place with lots of activities for young and old. Take the train to learn more about the park.

A big and beautiful park for all the family. You find animals, playgrounds, a fountain, café, kiosk, and restaurant. There is a beach where you can swim, or you can go for a walk in the woods. Toilettes around the park. In winter you can ice skate! You can even bring your own food and grill it 😁
Sissel D — Google review
A big park and plenty of parking spaces (free of charge). Well kept and clean. You can take a small train which takes you around the park. There are few animals and coffee places. You can also enjoy kids theatre, just make sure to check their schedule first. A nice playground to enjoy for kids under age of 9.

Great outdoor parc. With areas for recreation and fun. Nice playground for the young. Also a small zoo and nature path. Also old buildings and a "nature room" with information regarding the local nature and wild life.

Mårbacka

Historic Sites
Mårbacka, the former residence of renowned author Selma Lagerlof, is a significant cultural site in Varmland. The estate, located in the picturesque area of Sunne, preserves Lagerlof's personal decor and belongings, offering visitors an intimate look into her life. Additionally, Alsters Herrgard near Karlstad is another notable memorial estate dedicated to beloved Swedish poet Gustaf Froding.
A very nice place to spend an afternoon. The guided tour is well worth the money (English tours at 11.30 and 14.30 during the summer), and the food in the cafe was surprisingly good. An attempt to recreate the oat pancake using some oat flour bought from the shop was not a great success, unfortunately. The estate has many ramps, so should be accessible for those using wheelchairs or who struggle with steps. Some of the translations in the exhibit in the workers' building at the bottom of the estate could do with redoing, as they read rather strangely.
Adam R — Google review
We visited Mårbacken with three children 2-10 y.o. All had something to do and the place was nice, exhibition about Swedish schools in the past was interesting. If you're near enough there place certainly worth a visit.
Tim — Google review
Marbacka was a recommendation from a Swedish lady we met on our road trip through Sweden. If you plan to go there, do the tour through the main building. Otherwise you won't be able to go inside and see how Selma Lagerlöf lived there. We learned a lot about her and were impressed by her character and life. Plus the cafe offers a great snack/sandwich which we have never eaten before: a soft bread with potato salad, cucumber and tomato. It was delicious 😋
Jen — Google review

Rick I — Google review

Caroline — Google review
This is one of the places you just can't miss if you're in Värmland. It is a nice park and a building worth visiting. You can get a good cup of coffee or even a lunch here but do not miss a guided visit inside the building. The visit provides a nice introduction to the life of Selma Lagerlöf at Mårbacka but also the family history and the life of the employees at the time. Remember to book the visit in advance! During summer there are always a lot of people visiting this place.

Sliperiet konsthall & Gastronomi is a unique establishment housed in a historic wood grinding mill and pulp factory dating back to 1903. It now serves as both a restaurant and an art gallery. The food at the restaurant is highly praised, making it a worthwhile stop for lunch or dinner. While the art exhibition can be hit or miss, it offers an interesting display featuring various artists with detailed information provided.
Wonderful to see art from a world class artist in such a small Swedish town. Really recommend the visit and take the time to consume the art and be in the moment.
Albert G — Google review
The environment, both surrounding and within Sliperiet, is incredibly beautiful. The food was delicious, and the staff were fantastic. We were served by a guy named Viggo, who was exactly the kind of person you want help from and who really enhanced the experience – the right person in the right place. The children were also treated very kindly from Viggo, which was appreciated. Amenities include: * Free parking * Restrooms * Art exhibition * Wheelchair and stroller accessibility
Tina S — Google review
Nice gallery. Indeed not completely worth the entrance fee but the current exhibition was nice. Restaurant also very special.

I highly recommend Sliperiet. The food was fantastic as was the service and friendliness of the staff. Great exhibition on as well. Id go back in a heart beat.
Gavin H — Google review
The food is really good, surprisingly good actually, and well worth a stop. Go for a starter and a main course is my recommendation. The exhibition is very much a hit or miss thing, this year, for me, it was a clear miss. I do find it expensive to have to pay for it when having food there, and they should consider allowing free entrance of you have lunch or dinner there.
Fredrik H — Google review
We visited the place this afternoon. For a start you are charged 80 kr just to enter a building where there are two expositions, one on the ground floor and another on the second where what you see can be of your liking or not. In our case it was very disappointing. On the ground floor some of the paintings or photographs or whatever they were, are literally invisible because they are black. Yes. Just a big black square. According to the lady at the entrance you have to put your hands around your eyes (as if you had hors blinkers) to see them. Seriously, it reminded me the tale "The Emperor´s New Clothes" ("Kejsarens nya kläder" H.C. Andersen). Absolutely ridiculous. On the second floor we could "admire" aquarelles that according to the lady at the gate where almost as good as those of Lars Lerin which for us, after watching them, amounts to say that Markoolio´s music is as good as Mozart´s. Sorry if you love Markoolio. The prices, however, were typical of works by Mozart. If you are not rich do not even think about stepping in such a place. On top of that the food seemed to me very expensive and I am a chef myself. Honestly. I cannot recommend it.
Alfonso F — Google review
We went to see the art gallery. It was a very interesting and good display, there were several artists represented. They have a packet of information on the artists to know a bit more about them. Overall, a lot of space to look at the art, but not many pieces.

Fredriksten fortress

Fortress
Sights & Landmarks
Nestled in the charming town of Halden, Fredriksten Fortress is a remarkable 17th-century structure steeped in military history. This impressive stone fortress spans an expansive area and features various elements such as storehouses, bastions, and deep passageways that invite exploration. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape while wandering through its well-preserved rooms. The fortress also serves as a vibrant cultural hub, hosting events and festivals throughout the year that bring history to life.
A must see in Halden, a big place with history, legends and spectacular view over Halden and surrowndings. There are enough parking places, a golf spot, a museum and you can drive the car right next to the fortress. It has a lot of places to see, you can see some rooms and it is so well preserved. They organize events there.
Ralteo — Google review
Fantastic Fortress in the top of the mountain in Halden with great panoramic views of the surrounding area. It is extremely difficult to believe that battles were fought here! Even harder to believe that a Swedish king died there! Bring comfortable clothing and good shoes. The walks can be difficult and the acess to some areas hard. Good parking! Extremely recommended!
Luis L — Google review
It was early morning when I arrived here. The color of the roofs, perfectly suited for mid-October, was lovely, and the atmosphere was wonderful. I felt like a Norwegian soldier guarding the fortress, as if I had stepped back to 1807. Though it is now a symbolic fortress protecting Halden, its spirit was very much alive. It was even better because the most delicious and magnificent "Restaurant Curtisen" is also located in Halden. When I return to Halden, I will visit again and have a delicious and dignified meal at "Restaurant Curtisen". Wait for me, "Restaurant Curtisen."

Nice calm historical place. If you like abandoned castles and fortress with rich history this might be the right place with stunning views from top.
Muhammad B — Google review
The fortress is a remarkably well-preserved and impressive example of 17th-century period architecture. Built by Denmark-Norway after the Treaty of Roskilde in 1658, it carries both historical and cultural significance, standing as a replacement for the lost Bohus fortress. Named after King Fredrik III, it not only reflects the military engineering of its time but also shaped the identity of the nearby town, which bore the name Fredrikshald for centuries. Walking through its grounds today offers a unique glimpse into history, with its strong walls, commanding views, and the sense of resilience it represents. It remains a beautifully maintained site and a valuable monument to Scandinavian heritage.

Certainly! Nordby Shopping Center offers an array of dining options, from Scandinavian cuisine to international fast food chains, making it a great place to take a break and savor some local flavors or grab a quick bite. The mall is well-maintained and provides ample parking, ensuring a hassle-free shopping experience for tourists. It's not just a place for shopping; you'll also find entertainment options, like a cinema, which can be a fun way to unwind after a day of shopping. With a friendly and multilingual staff, Nordby Shopping Center is a welcoming spot for tourists seeking a mix of retail therapy and cultural exploration in the Swedish-Norwegian border region.

“Gusto delikatesseavdeling” Yesterday we bought two types of salads to try, as it was our first time buying from this place. When we got home and started tasting them, we had to immediately spit them out and rinse our mouths — the salads were clearly spoiled. Upon closer inspection, the packaging had a strong sour and rotten smell. This is by far the worst food preparation spot in the entire shopping center. It’s honestly shocking that they’re even allowed to operate while selling spoiled food. I would never recommend anyone to buy anything from there.
Brigita K — Google review
Definetly try to go here on weekdays, otherwise it's quite crowded. I recommend using the roof parking on the far side next to Maximat and shopping your food there, the "Nordby Supermarket" is not as good from my experience.
Marcus H — Google review
Pretty decent mall, its quite large and has a nice selection of stores, though it's more long than wide so you will get some exercise, but that's probably normal with a mall of this size. Has some restaurants in the middle, some fast food joints nearby or inside and a smaller food court upstairs, so you do have a lot of options. It has free parking too.

Very clean public fitness center which has indoor swimming pools with water slides, steaming room, sauna, café, gym, eating area serving pizza, burger, fries, drinks, ice cream etc. Very friendly and help staff. All areas are very clean and tidy. No bad scent and well kept place and good place for family and friends friend weekend visit. There are also available 3 hours and 1 day free parking places with permit card right around the place.
ExinMEDIA B — Google review
The slides and pools were great and fun for kids, but we felt the spa options were quite limited—especially for toddlers. Hairdryers were weak, so it's a good idea to bring your own. Sauna choices were fewer than expected, and the showers felt a bit awkward. Since we visited during the holidays, it was very crowded, and the changing rooms were often messy—understandably, as not everyone cleaned up after themselves.
Kristina P — Google review
Always nice place for a bath. The options in pools is great and should have something for everyone :) Food is also good.

Great place to spend time with family and friends. Clean water, tidy place and neat everywhere. More than 5 separate pools for different ages and activities. Jacuzzi and sauna also present. With Bigger slides for adults and smaller slides for kids. Parking, Cafeteria, advanced locker and shower area, they do sell swim suit, cap, Goggles and flipflops. But less staffs and unable to contact them at ease. Overall excellent place.
Raji B — Google review
Great place to visit with families, swing, eat, relax, spa. Much fun for the kids. Nice service. Like the new lock system. No need to bring own lock. You might have problems if you forgot something and need to exit building due to the new lock. But not a problem. The price is a bit high for a family to visit, unfortunately. Go a bit later to avoid crowded guests. Will be back☺ hope they will set the price lower for families.
Nhan A — Google review
I was disappointed to visit this swimming pool. The whole complex looks rather old, not modern at all, starting with lockers and showers, to the three tube-slides and the pool itself, with not very clean and clear water, no tiles on the walls or bottom of the pool. Lots of children visiting the pool (main one, unfortunately) and jumping into it from the springboards and the diving tower, making a lot of noise and blocking all lanes but ONE for those who want to swim. After kids are gone, still only two lanes are available for swimming. The two saunas (one dry and one damp) do work, but again, are old-fashioned and not really pleasant to visit. There is a nice warm-water small pool and a Jacuzzi outdoors, worth recommending, though.
Cyprian C — Google review
Honestly best pool for kids and grow ups, i haven't found such fun pools in Oslo area, everything you need they have, highly recommend to try at least once with family.

What a wonderful lake! There is a sandy beach near the main entrance, equipped with a diving board, a rail to help one walk into the water, and even proper bathrooms. There are areas you can BBQ/grill, several benches all around the lake, and well placed waste bins near the entrance. You'll find a beach volleyball court and an outdoor gym near the lower, larger parking lot. There is a ton of space for picnics or sun tanning on the grass around the beach itself. A beautiful main trail goes around the lake, with additional free trails in the forest area. Definitely worth a visit! 😃🐾🌳

Nice but not very bright, flashy and modern theme park for the kids and adults who are train lovers and wants to see mini models of towns and cities and trains running between them. With every ticket, kids get free waffel or hotdog. I found it was located at a bit congested location. Many visitors cannot move freely that makes the experience a bit bitter.

(Translated by Google) The historical center of the city. The modernity is mainly reminded of cars) Beautiful, interesting, unusual, atmospheric))) Frozen time. But a very small piece. Unfortunately, the museum was closed, although it should be working. But everything else was wonderful... quiet, calm, relaxing. (Ferries, a sea of ducks on the river bank, cannons sprinkled with snow, shops, cafes, parking spaces, friendly residents)...

Munch Museum in Oslo houses over 26,000 works of art by Munch along with his personal effects and tools. The city also offers a plethora of attractions including the National Gallery, smaller cafes, restaurants, and bars with live music such as Bare Jazz and Cafe Sor. Additionally, Oslo boasts various theaters like Nationaltheatret and Folketeatret where performances are usually in Norwegian.
Visited Munch Museum on a Saturday evening — luckily it’s open til late! The place is calm and beautifully designed, not too crowded, so it’s nice to just wander around and take it slow. The artworks are cool (of course The Scream!), and the view from the top floor is amazing. If you want to see all three versions of The Scream, you’ll need around two hours — they rotate the displays, so you won’t see them all at once. Totally worth taking your time though. A lovely spot to spend a quiet evening in Oslo. 🎨🌙
Fon C — Google review
I visited the old one a few times but The new Munch in Oslo feels like a living tribute to Edvard Munch’s restless spirit. The building itself leans over the fjord like it’s daring you to step inside—and once you do, the spaces give his work room to breathe and hit you in the chest. Seeing The Scream in rotation is powerful, but honestly, it’s the quieter works and the way the light falls in the galleries that stay with you. And when you need a pause, the rooftop bar and restaurant are worth the climb—floor-to-ceiling views of the city and water, cocktails that feel almost as artful as the paintings. It’s one of those museums where the experience stretches beyond the canvas, into the architecture, the food, the skyline.

A modern and spacious Munch museum with a vast collection of his work. I have discovered an unknown to me side of his artistic journey. There is one floor that guides you through his home, showcasing his possessions. The way it is designed is quite interesting. Finally, the view from the top floor over the city is great.

A fantastic Munch gallery full of awesome arts and many interesting works! The building itself is a very architectural fascination and provide absolutely gorgeous view of Oslo fjord. Multiple levels full of arts from Munch and other artists. Surprisingly there were also many interactive art you can get a hands-on with like making your own painting from wooden crafting or exploring Munch's house with a special characters! The three scream paintings display at half an hour interval each so you might need more than a couple hours to go through all the displays. Gift shop at the ground floor also have many cool little gifts you can buy to take home. There is a locker room with bathrooms close to the entrance you can store your bags for free. However the staff weren't very consistent about what size of bag you can have with you. We had a small backpack with us that was smaller than some of the other handbags people took inside while we couldn't bring ours bag in. Definitely one of my top favourite places we visited in Oslo!
Penny G — Google review
Enjoyed the great collection of Munch, allowing to immerse yourself into the artist's work. Some temporary exhibitions felt unrelated to the museum topic, hence 4/5. The building design lets you enjoy the views of the fjord and the Opera house while traversing between levels. The top floor bar offers cosy seating with view, and the ground floor cafe has nice food. The hot apple cider was great!
Grigor G — Google review
Really nice place with impressive paintings and a dreamy city view on the 12th floor. Especially want to say thank you to a warm-hearted gentleman staff who help me find my passport back. I accidentally lost my passport on the 12th without even noticing. Thankfully, the gentleman find the passport and he check around on different floors to find owner. It could be a disaster to me if he wasn’t so warm-hearted and helpful. Really unforgettable experience in Oslo.

An art museum dedicated to Norway iconic artist such as Munch and others. You are come and see all kinds of their art work, their work progression, their actual items that used to be used as well as enjoying the view point from the top of the building. Theres escalator and lift for easily accessible to each level. Its besides the art items theres not many other artifacts items for viewing. Hence if you aren't crazy or interested about art, this museum may not be the place for you
Sandee T — Google review
I came here with my mum and we had a lovely time. You are not allowed to bring backpacks into the gallery, but there are lockers at the entrance where you can securely store them whilst enjoying the exhibitions. I thought the layouts of the exhibitions were great and there was an interesting story told through the art and additional artifacts. The cafe in the lobby serves lovely coffee and baked goods and the top floor bar is a must for fantastic views over the Opera and surrounding area. The only negative we experienced was the price we had to pay for an umbrella in the gift shop when the weather unexpectedly turned wet.

The Norwegian Opera and Ballet in Oslo is a modern architectural wonder that has become a signature work for the Norwegian National Ballet. The building's spacious and airy design makes it a must-see for culture, art, and history enthusiasts. Visitors can enjoy opera or ballet performances by reserving tickets in advance, and may even have the chance to go up on the roof to capture stunning views of Oslo's port and city lights.
Beautiful architecture, surely a landmark of Oslo. You can walk up to the roof top to avail the stunning view of Oslo.

Top experience – Rusalka, 2025. The music and orchestra were so beautiful > it was beyond anything words can describe. The acoustics of the main hall were designed with expert consultation, using oak paneling and wave-like surfaces to create world-class sound. The architecture > I love how it lets visitors walk on top of the building, blurring the boundary between structure and nature.
Iryna K — Google review
Gorgeous architecture with impressive views. The building seems symbolic of the surrounding fjords and the beauty of Norway. The steps to the roof are a gradual climb with many places to stop for children or those who need more breaks. It's wonderful to see such a new building be accessible, allowing mist everyone to experience Oslo’s beauty.

Went here to watch Eugen Onegin (Russian Opera), not sure I'm a huge fan of Opera though. But I can't rate the location low because of that! It's very nice inside, spacious and feels modern yet classic! Will come back to see maybe a Ballett instead. On the downside, the seats are very straight, and offer very little legspace, for me 195cm it was hard to find a good position to sit in for the almost 3 hours the play lasted. Therefore i give this a 4 only

Akershus Fortress

Fortress
Sights & Landmarks
Akershus Fortress, originally built in the 13th century, was strategically positioned to protect Oslo from external threats. Over the years, it has evolved into a complex that includes a medieval castle, military fortress, Renaissance palace, and active military installations. The fortress also houses two military museums and hosts various events. While the castle is currently closed for renovations, visitors can still explore the sprawling complex and enjoy its historical significance.
I hadn’t really planned to visit Akershus Fortress, but I’m so glad I did. A beautiful piece of Oslo’s history with stunning views. Just make sure to wear comfy shoes—it’s not the best place for heels!

Akershus Fortress is my favorite spot in Oslo and definitely one of the must-visit places in the city. The fortress is full of history, with beautiful grounds to walk around, and it also offers an amazing view of the harbor. A perfect place to enjoy both culture and scenery in one visit.

This fortress is a cool place to walk around with a great view of Oslo harbour! Beautiful walls and buildings. Lovely garden and lots of mushroom 🍄
Penny G — Google review
Akershus Fortress is a medieval castle in Oslo, Norway, built during 1299 to protect the city. It has been a strategic fortress, a Renaissance palace, a jail and now it houses military barracks and the Norwegian Armed Forces. Historically speaking, Akershus successfully survived all sieges, primarily by Swedish forces. The immediate proximity of the sea was a key feature, wherein, the Norwegian commerce in that period, was by sea. Thus the fortress had become strategically important. So, whoever controlled Akershus fortress, actually ruled Norway. Later, however, Akershus surrendered without combat to Nazi Germany in 1940 when the Norwegian government evacuated the capital in the face of the unprovoked German assault on Denmark and Norway. The fortress was finally liberated in 1945, and was handed over to Terje Rollem. Presently, one has an option of touring the historical dungeons, Royal Mausoleum and enjoy scenic views of the city from its grounds, which are also used for events and ceremonies. We were thankfully guided by a very capable guide, upon our visit to the Fortress during July 2025. The entry is free for thr grounds but however, one has to pay for the priviledge of looking at the rest of the protected areas.
Neeru D — Google review
Visiting Akershus Fortress was one of the unexpected highlights of our time in Oslo. Perched right on the waterfront, this medieval castle-turned-fortress offers incredible panoramic views of the Oslo Fjord and harbor, and it’s only a short, easy walk from Karl Johans Gate. The grounds are open and free to explore, which makes it feel more like you’re wandering through living history than entering a formal museum. The atmosphere is calm and spacious, with winding stone paths, old ramparts, and a mix of well-preserved structures and open green areas. There’s plenty of signage in English, so even without a tour you can get a strong sense of the site’s layered history—from its origins as a royal residence in the 13th century to its role as a military stronghold and later, a World War II site. The contrast between the castle walls and the modern city skyline is striking, and it’s easy to spend an hour or two just exploring, taking photos, or finding a quiet spot to take in the view. If the weather is nice, I highly recommend visiting around late afternoon for great light over the fjord. It’s a peaceful and culturally rich stop that gives you a real sense of Oslo’s history without feeling overly touristy.

Good: ✅ The remnants of this fortress are very well preserved. ✅ The exterior corridors of this property make up an explorer’s paradise and it is completely free (no cost). ✅ The property is part ruins and part green space/park. ✅ There are many areas to enjoy the sun or shade. Walk, run, or chill—visits are easily tailored. ✅ Beautiful vistas throughout overlooking the bay. Caution: ❌ The property is both cliffside and hillside. It’s not a bad thing, just know that exploration requires the use of steps or steep trails. In summary, this is the crown jewel of downtown Oslo. There are plenty of pics to see what it is. If you’re into such, this place will deliver.

My visit to Akershus Fortress was amazing! The mix of history and beautiful buildings really caught my attention. The interesting exhibits helped me learn more about Norway's history. Please also visit the nearby Armed Forces Museum. There are old stone walls and remnants of history regarding this place and it is easily accessible.

Oslo City Hall, also known as Radhuset, is a significant administrative center and public venue in Oslo. It houses the city council, administration, art galleries, and studios. The building features an impressive art collection and is renowned for hosting the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony. Constructed between 1931 and 1950 by architects Arnstein Arneberg and Magnus Poulsson, it was inaugurated on May 15th, 1950.
what a pleasant surprise! Oslo Rådhus can be visited, and this is quite impressive. From the outside and the inside, it offers an original and unique architecture. The visit allows you to discovers exceptional interiors with quite astonishing frescoes of impressive dimensions. Several official gifts are also exposed that are worth seeing. Great visit!

Open to public, magnificent building, backing to the harbor/pier, a small garden on the side. Worth a visit and spending some time in and out of the building. In a walking distance to the Castle.
Patrick X — Google review
Oslo City Hall, located right next to the Nobel Peace Center and the waterfront, is one of the most striking buildings in the city. From the outside, its twin brick towers rise dramatically against the skyline, framed by the patterned stone plaza that leads you up toward its grand entrance. The approach alone is impressive — the symmetry, the waterfall features, and the sense of scale make it feel like you’re entering a truly important civic space. Inside, the mood shifts from monumental to unexpectedly vibrant. The central hall is vast, bathed in light, and filled with stunning murals that depict Norwegian history, culture, and everyday life in extraordinary detail. It’s both ceremonial and warm, a place that feels alive with stories. The murals are jaw-dropping in size and color — they stretch across the walls and almost overwhelm the senses in the best way. I especially appreciated how easy it is to access the building: free entry, minimal fuss, and plenty of space to linger without feeling rushed. It’s one of those sites that blends civic pride with genuine artistic wonder. If you’re visiting Oslo, this is absolutely worth a stop — whether you’re into architecture, history, or just want a moment to take in something grand and uniquely Norwegian.
Jarred F — Google review
Beautiful building with an even more amazing wall art interior! The building has free entry to visit but it can get busy so it can take a little time in the queue to get in. There is a security check before you go inside. Many beautiful art walls cover both levels of the building and in such a spectacular size! The big hall was being set up for event when we visited in the late afternoon. Nice clean bathroom just in the basement area.
Penny G — Google review
Impressive building, happened to be the 75th anniversary when we visited. Not a ton to see since there was some government meeting in action upstairs. The murals inside and the floor itself are beautiful. Even if you can't make it inside (free entrance, by the way), the architecture and fountain out front are impressive enough to rate 5 stars. Don't miss the art under the covered walks along the courtyard sides, with placards telling the story of the art relating to Norwegian/Scandinavian folklore.
Christopher C — Google review
Visited Oslo City Hall and was genuinely impressed. The artwork and architecture tell a lot about Norway’s history and values, and the building is easy to explore. A calm, meaningful stop in the middle of the city.
Andrei A — Google review
Oslo Radhus or Oslo City Hall in Norway, facing Oslofjord, was finally completed in 1950 (started in 1931 to be precise, but slowing down during WW II in the interim period) to celebrate the city's 900th anniversary. It houses the city's council, administration and other municipal organizations. It also hosts the Nobel peace prize ceremony on the 10th of December each year, being the death anniversary of Alfred Nobel. Our visit during July 2025 resulted in our guide letting us know the main happenings there, however, the insides of the building, was just envisaged by us. I loved the beautiful adornment of the colourful flowers, swaying in their beds, on the other side, while we circled behind them.
Neeru D — Google review
Oslo City Hall is such a unique and elegant building. Its red brick architecture stands out with a strong and distinctive style, making it one of the city’s landmarks. The design is both modern and monumental, yet it has an artistic elegance that reflects Norwegian culture and history. A truly impressive place to visit in Oslo

Nice and comfortable trip takes you very close to the airport and saves time and drive especially in the winter where the roads are very slippery, the views when you are on the ferry are magnificent the only thing I didn’t like is the price because I think it was a little high
M.B S — Google review
I’ve taken two trips daily, week on/week off, for the past 8 years—back to when foot passengers still had to pay. In all that time, I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve been greeted with a simple “hello” or “god morgen” by staff. That’s… impressive, in the worst way. The crew directing vehicles in both Moss and Horten seem far more interested in hiding in their shelters to smoke or having a chat out of sight than doing their jobs. Drivers often end up confused, only to be met with aggressive waving as if it’s our fault we can’t read minds. Paying customers shouldn’t feel like an inconvenience. Special mention to the guy in the white baseball cap who looks like he thoroughly can't wait to retire and forget about sea life, and also to the one who seems convinced he’s launching fighter jets off the USS Gerald R. Ford - some common cheer wouldn't go amiss! Considering the prices you charge for vehicle transport, the lack of basic courtesy and professionalism is frankly embarrassing. Word spreads—your cold attitude isn’t just noticed, it’s discussed in the travel and tourism community. Time to raise the bar.

Most of the signs in the museum are only in Norwegian and not in English, but the main reason to come are the ships anyways. It's very cool to be able to explore the ships so freely - and there the signs are all in English as well. Make sure to also visit the Narvik, which is right by the museum but needs another ticket for entry.

The biggest collection of maritime artifacts I’ve ever seen. From the beginning of the Norwegian navy to the present. Models and replicas of every ship along with artifacts from the ship. Interesting and educational. There is even a kids room for children to enjoy while parents meander at the museum. Entrance is just $10 and your questions will be answered for as long as you care to learn
