Turkansaari Open-Air Museum, situated in the picturesque city of Oulu, Finland, is a captivating attraction that offers a window into the area's rich cultural heritage. The museum, located on an idyllic island accessible by bridge, boasts a collection of over 70 traditional wooden buildings. These include a church dating back to 1694 and the historic Ylikarppa manor house completed in 1894.
A site showing some of the more recent history of Finland. The site shows a small community, including forestry huts, a church, windmill, housing, a school and other features. The site is based around the production of birch tar, and includes the boats used to transport the casks, the pits used to produce the tar itself, and the surrounding community. The site itself is spiralling, covering several square kilometres, and makes for a very nice day out because of it. Another site that is well worth a visit.

Turkansaaari outdoor museum located on three islands upstream of Oulu River depicts Finnish historical country landscape and a beautiful natural environment.
Tharaka P — Google review
It's on a beautiful island and lots of old stuff to see. You can also get in most buildings and really get an idea how it was. The English explanations were really short compared to the Finnish or sometimes even not there. Really weird and something they should improve
Martijn K — Google review
Nice museum where you can see how native people lived not so long ago.
Savo S — Google review
Interesting folk museum east of Oulu. In summer you can rent canoes also. Learn a bit about the tar industry
Alan P — Google review
Absolutely breathtakingly beautiful park. Worth seeing and exploring
Ted W — Google review
Open style museum which tells the history of tar. Not bad for a day visit.
Ajmal R — Google review
Might be a nice place to visit, but for tourists, it's almost never open. One could think it's open in the evenings as well, but no.

Pyhä-Häkki National Park

National park
Nature & Parks
Park
Ancient landscape of dense forest with a preserved farm telling the story of early inhabitants.
Pleasant path, length options to choose from (3, 6, 17km trails). Mosquitoes in the summer. Bbq shelter 2km, dry toilets, water well at entrance.
Dagmar U — Google review
Has perhaps the oldest trees in Finland available for visiting and viewing. A great park in natural state.
Antti V — Google review
This is relatively small nature park. Most of the trails have been fixed, so there are new duckboards and some parts have new gravel. Routes are overall easy and don’t require any special skills.
Jani V — Google review
A great place to enjoy the nature! There is a picnic area in the middle and a nice lake.
Bettina — Google review
Beatiful peacefully traveling place.
Mikko L — Google review
Wonderful place, pitch dark at night, no sounds, ideal for camping, hiking, or just to spend some time in forest
Jan V — Google review
Beautiful place, takes about 4 hours to do the loop
Phil K — Google review
The nature is very beautiful on the park and the trails are in good shape, easy walking. There is also a possibility to make a fire even during dry season. At least two toilets exists in the park area but one should bring their own toilet paper as there isn't any in the toilets.

Finnish Air Force Museum

Mentioned on
1 list
Army museum
Museums
The Finnish Air Force Museum is a must-visit for aviation enthusiasts, boasting an impressive collection of rare military planes from various countries including Russia, Britain, America, Sweden, Finland, and Germany. Visitors can get up close to most planes but the limited space makes it challenging to see the aircraft as a whole. The museum features English and Finnish explanations throughout its well-organized exhibits.
A place really worth visiting for anyone with some interest about aviation. Plenty with planes, engines, weapons and many more! Some are displayed as 'crashed', or with open parts so you can watch the interior, really interesting. Don't miss the huge model kit collection as well as the beautiful pictures of old planes in action.
Carlos L — Google review
i havent been before like amazing exhibiton , it is really good time travel. I recommend it to everybody who likes the plane and the history
Balázs K — Google review
Beautiful collections of military devices especially the old planes is very interesting
Andre M — Google review
Great place to visit with kids – fun and educational! Located close to Jyväskylä with easy access via the highway, it's a convenient spot for a family outing. The place offers interesting learning experiences for children and adults alike. Parking is available, making the visit even more hassle-free.
Eranga E — Google review
One of the best aviation museums I've ever visited. The aircraft are amazingly well preserved, many in their original paint, rather than being restored with new parts. There are 4 cockpits you can sit in, with many parts still working. The cafe and gift shop are small. I was impressed to see a selection of relevant aircraft kits and decals in the shop.
Adam B — Google review
This is a great museum offering detailed information about the history and development of the FInnish airforce. Owing to its location, it is best to get here by car. However, bus number 22 from the Jyvaskyla public transport takes you here. From the downtown of Jyvaskyla to the museum , the bus ride takes around 30 minutes.
E K — Google review
Very cool museum with 40+ aircraft of all uses and sizes. This is accompanied ons of models and also very informative panels about the history of Finnish aviation including interesting backstories of the blue swastika and home-made planes Tiira. Another cool feature is that you can sit in real cockpits of two real fighter jets (just the cockpit part present in this case). Part of the exhibits are outside but most of the museum is hosted indoors.
Jiří M — Google review
Awesome place for the aviation nerd 🤣 Got two and a half SAAB J35 Drakens... the half being a front with a cockpit that you may sit inside (along MiG-21 too, so you can compare the east vs. west experience). The exposition is focused on Finnish air forces alone, and is very rich, extensive and well organised. Time very well spent!

Jan K — Google review
Very basic, but fun kiddie park off the beaten path. The haunted house has some VERY cheeky characters :-)
Cy K — Google review
An absolute paradise in the middle of ...nowhere :-)... Well, at least in the middle of the forest. Compared to several Finnish and European amusement parks, this is a genuine pearl. Safe, no worries that the kids will be lost, everybody very friendly. And, even the owner can be seen. True spirit. Some machinery may be quite old, but who cares, when everybody from age of one to early teens really enjoy. And for us 50+, this is a trip to the past. Highly recommended.
Tero T — Google review
An old park with attractions for kids. Nothing fancy, expensive in relation with what you get there. Workers mostly uninterested and chatting in between themselves. Safety is under a big question
Irina K — Google review
nice! But why?
Axel H — Google review
This place is for kids only, no rides are designed with adults in mind. The "mörkömetsä" (spooky forest path) part of the park is laughably bad - the maps they hand out of it paint a picture of various funnily spooky locations, in reality what you will encounter are a few painted rocks, deteriorating plastic props and twigs. Incredibly corny. They advertise to have one of the largest retro arcades in Finland: in reality, only a handful of games are playable. If you are interested in the history of old slot machines and coin operated "payazzos" (pajatso, a traditional finnish gambling arcade game), they do have a dozen of these rare machines on display. Granted, there are a lot of rides, although most of them are really old. Free entry makes up for a lot of the shortcomings.

Museums
The Natural History Museum in Jyvaskyla offers a fascinating showcase of Finnish wildlife and geology. Despite its small size, the museum provides an educational experience with detailed explanations and images of real-scale animals from across Finland. Visitors can explore exhibits on climate change and Finnish nature, as well as a captivating underwater section. The museum's free admission makes it an accessible attraction for all, set within a natural park offering stunning city views from its tower.
It feels like a small scale of Natural History Museum in Helsinki it’s amazing place to see and learn our world

Visited on a wekend. colorful autumn flowers at the welcome entrance and staircase attracts the people of any age. Museum entrance and tower are free access. can view the scenic jyvaskyla region. restaurant facility available.
Saravanan K — Google review
Amazing and quaint museum where you can see life sized animals, birds, fish, and insects. There was lots of information on each specimen, as well as geological information on the area and across the country. Information was primarily in Finnish, but Swedish and English translation sheets were also available for each exhibit. The museum was free entry and had a small gift shop.
Jakob H — Google review
Very nice museum. It's small, but has a very interesting collection of animals from the region and explains a lot about the area, also geologically. There is a nature photography exhibition now, which is absolutely impressive. Definitely a place to see when in Jyväskylä. The entrance was free, so no excuses! There is place to park your car right in front of the museum (free for three hours) and once you're there you can also stop at the cafe and buy souvenirs or walk around the hill overlooking the city.
Andrew F — Google review
The Museum acts more like a showroom than an actual museum, but that's not big of a problem. Just bear in mind that this place in my opinion is better for school groups with little children to learn about the finnish wildlife and geology than it is to tourists who want to learn a lot. It's not a big space, only a few rooms, but since it's admission free you should check it out if you have a free 30 minutes. You can also buy souvenirs at the entrance and they are not that expensive compared to other museums.
Martin H — Google review
Amazing museum from Finnish culture and fauna history. Real scale animals from all over Finland with great explanation and pictures for top understanding. A free and very amazing place to visit, inserted in a natural park with great city landscape. Clearly an experience for foreings 👍🇫🇮

Craft Museum of Finland

Mentioned on

The Craft Museum of Finland may not seem impressive from the outside, but it holds a treasure trove of exhibits showcasing the history and development of various trades and crafts in Finland. The highlight is the workshop, stocked with diverse supplies and tools to fuel your creativity. Visitors can draw inspiration from a booklet offering suggestions or let their imagination run wild. The museum also features displays on traditional Finnish costumes, historical domestic practices like linen-making, and changing exhibitions that showcase Finnish handicrafts.
While it doesn't look like much from the outside, this museum is a real treasure. It has an amazing exhibition of the history and evolution of various trades and crafts in Finland. The best part is the workshop. Chock-full of all kinds of supplies and tools, you can let your inspiration guide you. There's a booklet with various suggestions, but these can be used as points of departure for your imagination. It's a perfect place to come with kids, especially on a rainy day as you can easily spend hours in the workshop. Kids go for free, adult tickets are 8 Euro.
E K — Google review
I'm not much of a museum person, but my Finnish wife thought this would be an interesting visit. I enjoyed it. Tickets were around 8 Euros a piece. They also had a lot of nice history with the outfits that people wore in the past as well as how they did linens and other things within the home. It took probably an hour to walk through and look at everything. A nice collection and it is displayed quite well.
Bill E — Google review
I did not plan to go there, but it was an amazing experience I don't want to miss. The exhibitions are really interesting and the workshop is something special! And the shop sells very nice souvenirs.
Erika T — Google review
Loved this little Aalto add-on. Definately recommend attending if you find yourself in the area.
Jakob — Google review
Such great history on Finland. There are many interactive features for all I
Caitlin M — Google review
Very disappointing, we went mainly for the temporary exhibition through the pinhole which seemed to have absolutely no relation to the online description had none of the things promised on it and turned out just to be a collection of photographs. The permanent exhibition was interesting if you are really into fabrics but had little information on the costumes, however the rooms are very dark to preserve the costumes and there is little attempt at interactivity also apparently the Sami do not exist in their world. There is the art museum which was rather wonderful just up the street from it which is highly recommended. (In reply to there reply) pretty much none of what you claim was available in your reply was there... I have no idea what you saw but it wasn't the same as we experienced
Wyn W — Google review
Very nice collection of handcrafted stuff. On Fridays free entry.
Antti O — Google review
Lovely place to visit. Something for every sense, the permanent exhibition has a lovely showing of Finnish handicrafts throughout history in many ways. Make sure to look at the drawers near the floor. The changing exhibitions has also been awesome every time I've been there. Cheap for what you get and lots of Finnish design on sale in the gift.

"Aalto - Work and Life," a permanent exhibition, is a fascinating overview of the lives of Alvar and Aino Aalto. It showcases their important architectural highlights and reveals aspects of their personal life. The exhibition is really thorough. Additionally, there is a temporary exhibition, "Sacred Spaces," which displays the Aaltos' design of 35 sacred spaces around the world. Highly recommended for anyone interested in architecture.
Jan R — Google review
Another amazing museum in Finland you have to visit. It’s beautifully made and arranged.

A must see museum if you travel to Jyväskylä, birth place of Alvar Aalto and Aino Aalto, legendary Finnish Architects!
Aman A — Google review

Sergey E — Google review
Very comprehensive museum about Alvar Aalto ´s work. Could do with more information about Aino ´s and Elissa ´s work. The information about his works in the city are poorly indicated Highly recommend to attend the guided tour of the experimental house
Marie M — Google review
Very interesting and nice museum if you want to know more about the great Finnish architect and designer Alvar Aalto. It also has other exhibitions like the history of Central Finland and Jyväskylä.

We were lucky enough to go the the Aalto museum on the opening day. This was an amazing experience with the new additions being a welcome connection. It was great to see all of the hand drawings and original works.

Struve Geodetic Arc, Oravivuori Triangulation Tower

Scenic spot
Sights & Landmarks
Historic Sites
Stunning place 30mins by car from Jyväskylä. There was a small parking lot at the bottom of the hill. We had ro walk for 1km to get to the tower. The road was covered with snow. Even though some parts of the hike were very steep it was fairly easy to walk up. And since we were the only one in the forest once we stop and not move there was a complete silence... Once we got up we were awarded by an breathtaking view of the frozen lake and landscapes. The weather was made for it. If you ever plan to travel to Jyväskylä this place is a must visit (but only on a day with nice weather).
Hung D — Google review
The place is beautiful, but be careful when driving there. The road signage is not very clear, and it’s easy to get lost. Make sure to follow the signs properly and avoid entering private properties by mistake.
Ellie G — Google review
Struve points are always located in such interesting places! The walk to reach it was a bit challenging but enjoyable
Raivo S — Google review
Beautiful place. Only the road to the start of the track is quite interesting - narrow and bent, with ups and downs, you have to be careful. The hiking track is well marked, the overall time from the start till the tower and then to the shore and back is about 2 hours. Be ready to sweat :)
Lelde S — Google review

(Translated by Google) What could be more beautiful than Matkaparkki next to the Vääksy canal. Even when spring blossomed and bloomed pale green. The travel park was right next to the children's playground, and from there it was about 200 meters to the canal. Nature looked its best, the weather was absolutely wonderful, temperature over 20 degrees. It was about 100 meters to the toilet facilities, there was also a disabled toilet in the building, the funniest thing was the same phenomenon as in so many disabled toilets, the mirror, there it was high compared to the high chair, otherwise the disabled toilet was good, the door was a bit heavy. On the first afternoon in the canal for ice cream, there was a Marine Guard boat or boat etc. in the canal waiting for the water to rise. On the second day, we walked the nature trail until it turned into pine trees. It didn't bother me at all, the flower was very bright and there were several trout fish. Fishing was prohibited in the area, because they would have caught it by chance. Walking and exercise came when we walked along the wide and so beautiful path along the canal. We arrived at Päjännejärvi and admired the boats that were in the harbor on the other side. I definitely recommend this travel park, it is a gem for the diversity and beauty of nature. Very nice and very Finnish place. Snow, pine trees, nothern noture and almost only Finnish signs around. Only one sign in English saying "Beware of descending boom" came into memory. Highly recomended even for those who don't know Finnish

That's just a great place for all kind of sport and recreational activities. In a walking distance you have all you need. Running indoors and outdoor, cross-country skiing, widr range of tracks for beginners and pros. Would wish that tracks are clean, I got bad scratches on my skis. Tried gym and circuit training area, running loop, swimming pool. Classes for students are good and modern. Conference rooms are good. Restaurants are good quality both cheaper and more pricy. Good pub for evening. Sleep in Fennada is of good quality. Room service need improvement, towels not changed, coffee mugs were dirty when arrived. But generally clean, has a drying locker.

Visited during autumn holiday. Finding the activities was horrendous. Web pages partly wrong, no signs, nobody to ask. The coaches were nice but they had absolutely no idea on customer value basics, and no willingness to receive feedback. Example: archery. We were told to come to a lobby of a certain building where the instructor would fetch us. Name of the building was wrong in the net and there were several lobbies. At one minute to due time nobody around. They had the participant list so they knew whom to expect. Finally found the group in a dark building 15 min late. After the class the instructor ran away to avoid feedback. You really need to work on this!

Good place to plan few days holiday for sport events. A lot of different options for all aged people throughout the year. I had been for 1 summer day and it became memorable one. Good for large groups and families. Resort offers food services according to the requirements. Its 132km far from Helsinki but really close to the nature. I recommend it.

Very good crosscountryski ( Loipe) trails ( difficult with hills, middle, easy. every morning fresh made...huge sledge hill🛷, a lot of other sportactivities possible :swimming, gym, skating, in Summer Golf, a lot of Tenniscourts outside, walking at the lakes, beachsauna, climbing Trail , and and.... Our holidayhouse had a fireplace, Sauna, barbeque Grill outside...we were happy there....we ate sometimes in the Restaurant Puhti Buffet next to the Hotel Fennada in Vierumäki.

Nice place to enjoy wintersports, although it is quite expensive overall. We had a nice cottage, fully equipped, sports facilities top notch. Rental prices for equipment are fair depending on the sports you choose. Curling for example is very expensive. Discovered new sports of Padel and used snow shoes for the first time. Everyone will find something they will enjoy here. Food on the premises is also of very high quality. Lunches in the cafe are very price worthy.

The best sport institute in Finland or the whole world. Everything within walking distance. For example, two ice rinks, two golf courses, soccer court, tennis courts, padel, gym, functional gym, courts for many indoor sports, plenty of outdoor sports, beach volleyball, frisbee golf, swimming hall and spa, premium hotel and other accommodation options, great restaurants, great staff and much more.

The Finnish Motorcycle Museum, with its recent Art Deco-style extension, is a magnificent showcase of over 100 old motorcycles and their fascinating stories. It also boasts the only Ace Cafe in the Nordic countries. Visitors praise the museum for its remarkable amount of motorcycle history and memorabilia, as well as its clean and tidy layout. The owner is described as a friendly and knowledgeable person who adds to the experience.
An interesting museum that contains quite a lot of different motorcycle models from different times.
Anastasiia Z — Google review
I gotta say, it surely is a cute little collection of mostly well kept bikes, but. What I'm struggling with, is the price of such a small collection, and with very little information about their history. I would appreciate more informative signs to read. It really isn't worth of the current price (12€) Maybe a bit cheaper ticket would also encourage people to try it out?
A T — Google review
Very small, but well kept museum. Two rooms + one exhibition room (for Honda bikes for the time being). Enjoyed it even for a pretty hefty price (14e).

Visited 5 years ago, and decided to return again, an excellent collection of motorcycles in a beautifully laid out and thoughtful arrangement, to anyone with the slightest interest please go! In addition the food was excellent!

Very nice place. Yearly changing exhibitions. About 100 bikes, this year Honda 120. Staff also friendly.

The bikes are unique, but an entrance fee of 12 Euros makes it somewhat questionable. It's not out of this world and staff mimics American culture. Good music.

Sibeliustalo, also known as Sibelius Hall, is a remarkable concert and congress hall located in Lahti, Finland. Designed by renowned Finnish architects Hannu Tikka and Kimmo Lintula, this modern wooden structure is considered one of the most significant architectural works in the region. The hall boasts world-renowned acoustics and features a stunning timber-lined auditorium connected to an older building by a cathedral-like foyer with expansive glass walls and tall pillars resembling a Finnish forest.
The Sibeliustalo is a beautiful concert hall. It has also received several international awards for its truly unique acoustics. Again: the remarkably great hospitality of the Finns - when the two janitors gave us a spontaneous tour of the house, including the concert hall which actually was not open to the public. A wonderful experience, thanks to both of you if you happen to read this.

This is the most magnificent concert hall in the world and the Lahti Symphony Orchestra are HIGHLY underrated. A beautiful setting on the docks at Lake Vesijarvi in Lahti City, Finland. The only other concert hall with perhaps as good a setting is the Sydney Opera House in Sydney Harbour Australia, but I prefer Sibelius Hall. This was the view from the steps outside the hall on the evening of Thursday 17th May 2018.

The museum's exhibits showcase a variety of old ski equipment, tools, and modern ski sports. Visitors can enjoy interactive activities such as virtual ski jumping and biathlon shooting. The museum also features a modern design and provides an engaging experience for those interested in winter sports.
The Lahti ski jumping hills are spectacular — an iconic sight and a true symbol of Finnish winter sports.

Small musem that gets out everything of the different ski sports thats possible. Nice exhibitions through the history of cross-country, biathlon, ski-jumping or snowboarding and a ski-jumping simulator and laser pistol and biatlon riffle shooting also included. Worth to see when you are at the sports centre in Lahti!

Interesting but quite small place. Aimed at people of all ages. Lots of interaction and games for kids and like minded people. Just wishes there were more sports memorabilia.
Wiley C — Google review
Very interesting place about the ski history of Finland. On of the most interesting part is activities such as virtual ski jumping and biathlon shooting (I really wanted to just to stay there :)) It would be great if audio guide will be added to the first floor as well. And the audio guide on the basement would be a bit shorter, because it's a bit difficult to consume such amount of information

Very Modern museum, giving some history about skiing in general and of cause the finish sports. And a bit of fun in the ski jump simulator and shooting Simulator, nice idee. But from my point of view the entrance fee is a bit to high for the size of the museum, maybe for somebody who is more into Finnish winter sports legends it is more worth it.

Askolan hiidenkirnut/ The potholes of Askola

Nature & Parks
Nature preserve
Geologic Formations
Really interesting natural phenomenon. Deep, max 10 m and over 1 m wide potholes or giant kettles in the rock. Almost 20 of them in rather steep slope. Also nice views from the top of the hill. Not much to walk, about 1 km, but slippery and difficult path. Especially on a rainy day. Wet rocks. Suggest to go straight to potholes and come back by the scenic path.
Esa A — Google review
Easy parking, short hike but lots of stairs and rocky ground. We went after a few days of rain so lots of muddy spots and bugs. Bring bug repellent. The views were beautiful. I would like it again. 4€ a family
Kristy V — Google review
An area well curated and preserved. Best visited when it has not been raining - some rocks that formed those glacial shapes will be visible at the bottom.
Juhani V — Google review
A very beautiful place – I highly recommend it 100%! Don’t just follow the marked points on the map, but also take the trails marked with blue ribbons, both along the mountain ridge and down below. From the bottom, you’ll get an impressive view of the cliffs.
Dace S — Google review
Really breathtaking place. The biggest sinkhole is one of the largest in the whole world. 4mx10.5m. Extraordinary place that it's a must visit. This location would need little bit care and a better campfire place, like a hut. This one that there is now, it is not so good. It gets wet easily and it's hard to grill in the winter. Not suitable for wheelchairs.
Maria K — Google review
There is an honest system to pay €2 each. I’d bring some cash. You can do a loop walk around the area, down by the river and up around the rocks.
W W — Google review
Potholes are on the steep of a cliff, you can look at all of them in 15 minutes time. The path to the potholes is through the wood on the back of the cliffs, marked with blue ribbons, and it takes about 10 minutes. The parking lot is easy to reach and wide enough.
Lelde S — Google review
A very nice little treck in beautifull natural surroundings. The views from the hillside and the deep round holes cut directly in to the rocks by nature are amazing. Many of the holes are full of water in the winter so their depth is not so apparent. Visitors with little children be advised that kids need constant supervision, however the hike itself is not challenging and there are good railings and sturdy stairs to aid visits with even small children. I would reccomend this as a very nice place to take in the outdoors.

A one stop shopping centre for most of your home needs. From restaurants to pharmacy, specs shop, clothing and DNA phone provider, just to name a few. Likely also homing the nicest cafe in Hyvinkkää town, Kulmakonditoria. Parking is plenty of going by car. And it's easy to get to from the train station. Just one warning, personally found the mall a bit confusing to navigate particularly getting to/from the back side of it.

Beautiful big shopping center with very standard mall brands. Nice place to hangout or to do the shopping. Quite big that even both Prisma and K- Citymarket both situated together. H&M, Gina Tricot and New Yorker etc cheaper fast fashion retailers available, and better premium brands such as Guess also situated here.

The Finnish Railway Museum

Museum
Historical landmark
19th-century station & engine shed setting for railway history museum with rolling stock collection.
Very nice and a well arranged place. Many train models are exhibited. Exhibits are well preserved. Sound effects in the exhibition halls are really nice. Anyway, it's bit difficult to see inside of some trains due to dust accumulation on the windows. Overall, recommended for both kids and adults. there is a special area for kids for some activities too. And a tiny train operates across the garden during the summer. You can have a ride. Just a short walk from Hyvinkää railway station. Staff is very friendly.
Rehan M — Google review
Great view over the history of the Finnish railways. Many old locomotives to see. There's also a cafe outside with a possibility to hop on a small train that rides around the park area during the summer time and when it is dry.
Juho Ä — Google review
Great half-day trip from Helsinki! The Finnish Railway Museum is perfect for families with kids. The miniature train ride in the garden is a highlight. There’s also a fun indoor play area with wooden train sets, drawing corners, and even a real locomotive they can climb into. The museum is just a 10-minute walk from Hyvinkää train station, making it super easy to reach from Helsinki. The museum grounds are spacious, with well-preserved station buildings and outdoor displays that feel like walking through a piece of history. A most to-do if you’re in Uusimaa.
Catalin M — Google review
Great museum with unexpectedly beautiful and nice renovated trains. The condition of the locomotives are very good and during my visit there was some outdoor event as well with some modern trains and a running locomotive. It was great to visit and just around the corner from where I was living.
Sander V — Google review
Great collection of historic trains. Several free entrance days, worth watching out for. Some days in the summer of steam trains running... But many more days a diesel is running. The park "ride on" train is nice, a 3min lap of the grounds for 1euro each. (Only runs in the summer)
Gabriel P — Google review
The museum located in an old locomotive depot. A lot of rare trains as steam locomotive's. Very nice place!
Mike C — Google review
I really enjoyed my visit thanks to the plurality of trains exhibited there. Despite the fact that the big hall is not heated, it was really pleasant being able to go really close to all sort of trains, and even to take look into the inside from the windows. The only negative point is that a big part of the presentation signs are only written in finnish and not translated.
Baptiste V — Google review
One of the most interesting museums in Finland. The Uusimaa area is full of quirky modern art museums so it’s exciting to visit a history themed one that provides insight into the development of not only railway but also technology and the entire country as a whole. The museum’s premise is large, with many things to see and experience.

Porvoo Cathedral

Cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
Porvoo Cathedral, located in the enchanting Porvoo Old Town, is a small 13th-century cathedral that was originally constructed with wood and later fortified with stone walls. The cathedral, an Evangelical Lutheran church built in the 15th century with some parts dating back to the 13th century, stands as one of Finland's oldest churches. It serves as the seat of the Swedish-speaking Diocese of Borga and offers a picturesque view from the nearby hill.
One of the best Cathedrals in Finland. Really enjoyed the time and peaceful environment there. The numbers on the wall, I didn't get it, was that roman chapters/verse numbers from Bible? I don't know but the place was extremely peaceful and very historical. I'd recommend this for any tourist visiting Porvoo city in Finland.
Sunny S — Google review
Located in the heart of Porvoo, this small cathedral features simple architecture and a calm atmosphere. The second floor is closed to visitors, yet the main hall still feels welcoming. At the entrance you can pick up postcards and other souvenirs, selecting the design or author you like, with an offer of your choice. I suggest visiting at least once.

Guests can enjoy delicious meals at the traditional small restaurant on-site, which has been serving for two decades. The apartment we stayed in was even nicer in real life than the pictures showed. We were very happy about our stay, and the staff was very service-oriented and accommodating to our needs. We could check in a little bit earlier than usual, and also leave our luggage for some hours after checking out, while we were strolling around in the old town before taking out bus back to Helsinki. Thank you for a wonderful comfortable stay!

Charming bed and breakfast spot in Porvoo. A shame we only stayed one night but the accomodations were cozy and inviting. The room we stayed in had a kitchen as well as a spacious living room. The living room had a nice view of the river. It was in the center of the town and easily accessible to the old and newer areas of Povoo. This would be a nice place for summer trip with the family.
Myo K — Google review
Very cute B&B along the river in Porvoo, Finland. I stayed in the Star Room, which is a bit separated from the main property. Owner knocked on the door as I arrived. He apparently also owns the nearby restaurant Ranta-aitta, which had its commissary and bathrooms across from the property. Be aware this property and its windows all face an alley that will have fairly heavy foot traffic in the afternoon/evening hours because of the restaurant. I immediately drew all the blinds when I entered the unit. Other than that privacy inconvenience, the location is fantastic, right on the main strip of the old town of Porvoo. Inside the unit you have a nicely functional kitchen and washer/dryer (which I used and was very convenient). There's two bathrooms, one with a shower and one without. Shower is a bit small and confining, but solid. The chairs in the kitchen were not super comfortable and the wifi didn't reach the bedroom very well, so if you need to do something online for a decent amount of time the unit isn't the most ergonomic solution for this situation. There is a piano in the unit! I did not play or know if it was actually encouraged but it's something to consider. There is access to a sauna that's across the street from the main property, which I used. Its heat doesn't get much higher than 60-70ºC but with plentiful water you can get enough steam for a good sweat. Breakfast was solid.

Nature & Parks
Museum home of composer Sibelius in the villa where he lived with his family from 1904-1957.
Nice. The house Sibelius lived in for more than 50 years. No theme park. Just the house with furniture and the story of their lives. Loved it

Please with this. The garden is beautiful and the place itself is a walk into a history book. The building itself is stunning and the rooms nicely kept. You can see a lot of the old ornaments and catch a glimpse of the of how people lived during this period. The garden is stunning and well kept. The cafe is also a nice place to hang out and walk around.
Rosana E — Google review
Very interesting home museum of the Finnish national composer Jean Sibelius.
Juho Ä — Google review
After seen Sibelius Monument in Helsinki, it's just natural that one wants to see Ainola, the home of Jean and Aino Sibelius where they lived some half a century and which is now open for visitors as a home museum. The ticket price is 16 euro (summer25) which sounds a bit expensive if we think that the entrance costs to Kiasma, Ateneum and other big museums in Helsinki some 20 euroa. But maybe the ticket price doesn't matter so much if one is really interested in life of Finland's most famous composer.
Hannu T — Google review
A visit to Ainola had long been on my bucket list, so I arrived with high expectations. It's easy to see how the last 20 years or so of Sibalius' productive career, could have been influenced by such a stunning place. Today, the environment is a little spoiled by the proximity of a trunk road. But the house and gardens are unchanged since those days past, and you will appreciate the beauty and calm they install within you.

Really nice buildings and park. The interior and art collection are great. And the sauna! Worth visiting even if Sibelius is not your thing!

Home of Jean and Aino Sibelius, a very interesting history. A real home, did they say 99 ashtrays....he smoked cigars.

J. L. Runeberg's Home in Porvoo, Finland was the residence of the national poet Johan Ludvig Runeberg and his family. The house has been turned into a museum, showcasing various artifacts such as works of art, hunting weapons, and porcelain that offer insights into the family's everyday life. Visitors can also explore Fredrika's garden with its fragrant roses, mock-orange bushes, and fruit trees during the summer months.
Lovely garden. Very nice guides. Worth it!

Very small, like 3 rooms. Interesting but not worth the price

The staff here is incredibly warm! They gave us brief info about Runenberg, his family and house. While leaving we asked about one exhibit and they explained it to us. The living room was decorated for Christmas! We liked all rooms except the room with killed foxes... For vegans it's very hard to see and enjoy. From giftshop we got nice Runenberg cake magnet and baking form. Thank you!

I visited Old Porvoo and decided I wanted to visit also at least one museum. Runeberg’s house seemed like a good choice. The museum is maintained pretty well, both indoors but also outside, the garden. The entrance is free if you have a museum card or are under 18, otherwise 8/6€. The staff is very friendly and polite. If you’re interested they give you a small tour with pretty interesting facts about the Runeberg family. The staff speak Finnish, Swedish and English. And maybe even more languages. At the room next to the register there is an interactive space, where both kids and adults can have fun. You can take photos pretending to drink tea, set up the table and lots more. Hint: buy some of their coffee. The flavor is great and it also makes a great gift. A huge thanks to the staff for the lovely visit.

The house was a fast visit since we arrived there 15 minutes before closing time. I have Museum Card so I was able to visit with no fee so I walked it around. There would have been a binder where no read about the place more but I decided just to look around. The Fledrika's historical (free) garden was beautiful and had a lot of different species.

Beautiful place with interesting history. They give you a guide book at entrance which contains all the information you need. The entrance fee is 8 euros for adults and 6 euros for students or pensioners.

When you are visiting Porvoo and you have spare time (while waiting for your bus back to Helsinki), the place that you should visit. There are two Runeberg museums: Finland's national Poet, Johan L. Runeberg (Father) and a famous sculptor Walter Runeberg (Son). I paid the entrance fee for 8€ for both museums and spent 40 mins in total. The museum is very near the city square and the regional bus stop.

Good, although brief experience. Interesting look into the life of Finland's national poet in his home that's maintained in its original state.

Lovely artist home. Extremely well taken care of and were greeted by very friendly staff. We were also able to pick and take home nearby wildflowers
Hannah G — Google review
A stunning location and a truly wonderful wooden house. The view to the lake is just fantastic. Very disappointed though to find that inside the house they did not have many works of Halonen on display but instead lots of paintings and works from other Finnish artists painted whilst they had been in France. I visited hoping to specifically see and learn about the person who had lived in the house. I am not sure if I would have wished to pay the rather expensive entrance fee to see works from artists who are already on display in large museums in Helsinki.

Beautiful place, wouldn't have minded staying a bit longer. Great artworks and architecture. It was very hot inside though due to sun all day and the house being black 😁.

Lovely piece of Finnish history. Pekka Halonen’s atelier home is gorgeus and offers art exhibitions with different themes fron Finnish Art Golden Age 1880-1930 throughout the year.

Science museum
Museums
Heureka is a renowned science center located in Vantaa, Finland. It features a main exhibition with over 200 interactive scientific exhibits from various fields, a world-class digital planetarium, and a science park. The center aims to spark an interest in science among children through its hands-on and interactive displays. Additionally, Heureka hosts two temporary exhibitions and has provided traveling exhibitions to numerous countries worldwide. The center's focus on making learning fun and engaging is in line with Finland's progressive educational approach.
Amazing Science Learning Experience at Heureka Science Centre👍👍 Located in Tikkurila, the Heureka Science Centre is an incredible place that makes learning both fun and effective. This Finnish museum offers a unique, hands-on experience that allows schoolchildren to explore science in an engaging and interactive way. After spending just one or two days here, students can easily absorb knowledge equivalent to two or three years of a standard school science curriculum – and enjoy every minute of it! In addition to the main exhibition, Heureka regularly features fascinating themed sections that provide even deeper learning experiences. We were lucky to visit during the Experience the World in the Last Ice Age exhibition, which focused on the amazing animals that lived during that period. The life-sized models were so realistic they felt almost alive, creating an unforgettable and immersive atmosphere that truly brought the Ice Age to life. The exhibitions are creative, well-designed, and accessible to children of different ages. Everything is built to inspire curiosity and understanding through play, discovery, and experimentation. I highly recommend Heureka to families, educators, and anyone interested in making science come alive.
Yaroslav R — Google review
We had a fantastic time at the Heureka Science Museum! It’s the perfect spot for both kids and adults who love to explore, discover, and get hands-on with science. The exhibitions are interactive, creative, and beautifully designed to make learning fun and engaging. Our favorites were ice age exhibitions and the outdoor science park, which added an extra layer of excitement. Everything is well-organized, and most exhibits are available in multiple languages, including English and Finnish. Highly recommended for families, tourists, and anyone who enjoys a day full of curiosity and wonder!

Space exhibition was definitely worth a visit. My first visit to Heureka was over 30 years ago, but it still keeps surprising and the exhibitions are always interesting. Ice age moving mammoths and other animals were also interesting as usually you only experiment those as still standing setups. Visited it this on a regular Sunday, but might be interesting to visit during the themed NOX evening, when whole place is K18 and specific themed program is available as well.
Miika K — Google review
Very nice and well executed science museum full of varied exhibits and demonstrations that take place throughout the day. The Ice Age animal exhibition was my favorite and my son really loved getting to build and test his own race car. This is a great way to spend several hours either the family! And the cafe has excellent food as well.
Kelly M — Google review
You can't but tickets online the same day, this is kind of strange. The parking is on the other side on the railroad – another oddity. The science center is huge and impressive though. Went here with two kids : 5 and 2.5. The older one was excited to try everything, however the most interesting things require 140cm of height and were unavailable for him. The small one was scared of the ice age animals but otherwise liked the museum. The cafe is extremely expensive, the buffet is mediocre. I'd recommend this place for 10+

Went there with 2 kids, aged 6 and 8. The kids were just the perfect age. They tested everything. We spent the all day there. Conveniently 5 minutes walk from Tikkurila station

Heureka is one of the must visit place in Vantaa. They havr variety of things(especially science and technology) to do and to see especially with kids, many creative, active, imaginative activities are available. But this tike they hace something special. The Ice Age Era which you can see a lot of animals from ice age, 14.000 years ago. They have some explanation about the animal, what happened to them and many more. You can see how big they are omgggg. They have a space which they train some rats to do some interesting activities, a section to know what blind people feel, a plac

Winter World in Helsinki is a must-visit for those seeking an authentic Finnish winter experience. The indoor attraction maintains a chilly temperature of -3 degrees Celsius, allowing visitors to enjoy various activities such as an ice maze, dog sledding, and interacting with friendly huskies. It's a popular spot for families and groups of friends looking for unique experiences. The venue offers different activities like skiing and visiting the ice bar and igloo.
We only had a few hours to spend in Helsinki, but we loved Winter World. The staff was amazing and it was a highlight of our Baltic Sea cruise.
Douglas B — Google review
Fun experience, though it isn't huge inside so do not expect an "all day visit" so of thing. The ice maze was cool, no pun intended. The dogs were really sweet and playful. I did not pay for one of dog sled rides but did get to interact with them and pet them.
Ashley G — Google review
Nice place to visit. Big hall with different activities (ski, husky experience, ice bar, iglo, ...) we went with a big group of colleagues and made a lot of fun. Very friendly service. Loved it!
N. L — Google review
For the price you are paying for the entrance it's overpriced and not much of activities to do there. 1 ice slide and no hills at all to use the slays or ski. You won't spend there more than 20-30 min. Vodka shot is nice, but you only can get vodka from that ice bar, nothing else, would be nice if they actually had more drinks to offer. Not satisfied...
Viktoriia D — Google review
Great idea and lovely people working there BUT the sounds of the dogs barking/crying ruined my experience. Those poor animals, they obviously aren't happy there. Would have enjoyed myself a lot more if there weren't dog slaves.
Michelle C — Google review
Beautiful, lots of new ce activities only thing I didn't like is poot dog's that are forced to run skii for all the visitors all day

Shopping
Itis is a shopping center located in the eastern part of Helsinki, accessible by a 15-minute metro ride from the city center. As the largest mall in the Nordic countries, it offers an extensive selection of shops with almost 240 different options to choose from. Alongside its wide range of retail outlets, Itis also boasts nearly 30 restaurants and cafes for visitors to enjoy.
Not so busy on the weekdays. There are restaurants and almost all brands outlets, halal meat shops. Play corner for the kids. A good number of parking places are also available here, which are free of cost. So, it is a complete package. Superb place to visit.

I went to Itäkeskus for their foods in their Kauppahalli and the foods were excellent. Great food price ratio with Chicken Gyros and the Strawberry Foam Matcha is spectacular. Unfortunately the Dubai Chocolate Icecream hit under the mark. There just wasn’t the dubai chocolate Wow-factor within it. Very basic or too basic recipe with nothing extra, which dubai chocolate has. Just ordinary chocolate sauce, green sauce that I’m not sure if it’s pistachio and kunef which all of them is too little compared to the soft serve’s amount

I recently visited Rituals Itakeskus and bought The Ritual of Jing Mini Fragrance Sticks Diffuser — it’s absolutely wonderful! The scent truly brings a sense of inner peace and calm to my home. 🌸 The store itself has such a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere — soft lighting, soothing fragrances, and a beautifully organized layout. The staff were also very kind and helpful, offering great advice on different collections and helping me choose the perfect product. Every visit feels like a little escape from the busy mall. I’ll definitely come back to explore more of their products. Highly recommend for anyone looking to bring more calm and balance into their daily life.

Today around 17:50, a clearly intoxicated and socially unstable individual, with a bottle of alcohol in his pocket, approached and started yelling at my 1-month-old baby who was peacefully sleeping in a stroller near the tables by McDonald’s (next to the escalator). As a result, the baby has been crying for hours and cannot calm down. This experience was extremely upsetting and left a very negative impression of the shopping center. I strongly do not recommend visiting this place with children — it clearly lacks proper security and family-friendly atmosphere.
Константин А — Google review
Big and bright mall. I was surprised at how bright this mall is compared to other malls in Helsinki. Very easy to navigate although it has many shops and eating places.
Domna T — Google review
My current rating are 3 stars only. Itis is currently undergoing a major renovation. Many stores are closed and the mall currently has a bit of a construction site feel. Had I known this before, I would have chosen not to visit. I'll be returning after the renovation is complete for an updated review. Plus points for the fact that at least on one of the parking sections, still 5 hours free parking is available. However, I do not recommend to park on the deck that is on the Stockmann side. The way down is extremely narrow and I had trouble to leave due to it being so tight. I am an experienced and confident driver, I usually don't encounter such situations. The guidance towards the exit lane is so tight and the curve is so sharp that I was worried I'd scratch my car. I had to maneuver quite a bit to get out unharmed. I haven't had this problem in any other parking sections in Itis.
Lilly — Google review
Itis Shopping Center is an exceptional shopping destination in Helsinki, standing out with its unique shops among popular brands. The mall is easily accessible, boasting free parking and good public transport links. Despite its size, a stroll around the various stores, including groceries and household items, will soon have you navigating it with ease. Plus, there are plenty of restaurants and coffee shops perfect for socializing or a relaxing break. With ongoing renovations, the interior may seem a bit dark, but the lively atmosphere keeps the spirit upbeat. In essence, Itis is a clean, well-organized shopping haven, inviting you back for more enjoyable experiences.
Kaveh — Google review
Good place, you got everything you need, really pretty and quite easy to navigate. Outside area is filled with smokers and has a lingering tobacco smell but itis overall is a nice place.
