Oradea Fortress

Fortress
Sights & Landmarks
Oradea Fortress, a reconstructed bastion fortress in Italian style, holds centuries of history within its walls. Dating back to the 11th century, it has evolved from a fortified monastery to a flourishing center of Renaissance culture. The fortress showcases the city's rich past with displays on its history and even offers visitors a glimpse into the disco scene of the 1970s and '80s.
Really nice place to visit in an afternoon! You can take a walk around the fortress and even climb on the bastions. There's restaurants and entertainment inside the fortress. The history side is not however the main attraction. It has more of a fare kind of vibe. You can also find all sorts of artisanal shops. There is also large public parking right across from the fortress towards the church. I also recommend walking in the park around the fortress. There's even a pond with lots of fish!

A special historical monument from the Middle Ages, but also a place to relax, find some silence amidst the noise of the city and enjoy nature. Traditional handicraft fairs and various celebrations or festivals are often held here, in this beautiful setting. Highly recommended!

Oradea Fortress offers a rare mix of historical depth and living culture. It's not just a fortified relic but a pulsating hub of heritage—where fortified walls, evocative exhibits, and lively events converge. Whether you're a history buff or simply looking for an enriching experience, Cetatea Oradea is a must-visit highlight in the city.
Razvan M — Google review
The fortress has been very well restored. The museum inside the fortress is superb—the most beautiful one I’ve seen so far. You should set aside about an hour and a half to two hours to visit it. It’s definitely worth it, and I highly recommend it!
Tiberiu H — Google review
I recommend the history museum whole heartedly, we spent 3 hours inside and didn't get bored. I'm not a museum enjoyer, but 90% of the rooms inisde were interesting and well organized
Horia M — Google review
Nice experience and very friendly local people in a place full of history, distinction and royal figures. The fortress is well kept, but I guess they still need to finish some renovation on one of the outside walls. There was an Easter fair for the children when we visited, with lots of food and drinks trucks. The prices are reasonable.
Monica L — Google review
The city of Oradea was founded by King Ladislaus (1) the Holy (1077-1095), who built in the second half of the 11th century a cathedral complex dedicated to the Holy Virgin Mary, where he was buried after his death in 1095. After his sanctification in 1192, the founder king's tomb became a pilgrimage site of European importance. The Episcopal Center in the fortress became a religious center with a special significance, being a royal burial site, a place were trials by ordeal were performed, a humanist cultural-scientific center of European significance. As it was described by canon Rogerius, the Mongolian invasion in 1241 led to the destruction of St. Ladislau's fortress. The new fortress built in the 14th century had an irregular, rounded shape and towers. The reconstruction of the Gothic cathedral and the building of the episcopal palace begun during the time Andrei Bathori (1329-1345) and Demetrius Futaki (1345-1372), were bishops. The fortress is decorated with St. Stephen's, St. Emeric's and St. Ladislau's bronze statues (1370). King Ladislau's equestrian statue was made later, in 1390, but all four of them were created by sculptors Martin and Gheorghe from Cluj. A remarkable cultural and scientific life developed in the 15th Century in the Episcopal Center from Oradea thanks to the patronage of the bishops. The court of bishops Andrea Scolari (1409-1426), John Vitéz de Zredna (1445-1465),, John Filipec (1476-1490) and Sigismund Thurzo (1506-1512) became one of the most important cultural centers of the Eastern-Central European Renaissance. It was the place where the episcopal library was built, where Janus Pannonius (1434-1472), was a canonist, where a European Literary Asylum functioned and Tabula Varadiensis was written by Viennese astronomer Georg Peuerbach, the father of astronomy. Due to the political and military changes in the late 16th century, the Principality of Transylvania came into possession of the fortress, led by the Great Captaincy of the Oradea Fortress (1557). Transylvanian princes quickly recognized the strategic military importance of the fortress, whose reconstruction began under the rule of prince John Sigismund (1540-1571). The medieval episcopal fortress was gradually transformed into a strong redout specific to late Renaissance and it was built in two stages: between 1569 and 1598, the outer redout with five bastions, between 1618 and 1650, the inner fortress, the princely palace of princes Gabriel Bethlen (1612-1629),, George Rákóczi I (1630-1648) and George Rákóczi II (1648-1657).

Great museum, lots of stuff you can admire, from prehistory to modern times, it's exquisite. The only downside is that they don't have a ramp for wheelchairs and baby strollers and I had to carry the stroller everytime we encountered stairs.

The state theater! Such a beautiful building where you can catch high quality produciton plays while in Oradea. The auditorium sounds incredible and the decor is excusite.

First of all is a beautiful historical building and is kept in a very good condition. The acoustic inside is very good and the staff is very friendly. The acces is a bit tricky with the new traffic rules and the parking may be a problem right next to the theater.

I had to walk around the building from the outside, and it looks great. You can take a great photo from the front. There is a square and a sculpture nearby. Come in, and you will like it.👍👍

Is one of the most beautiful buildings from Oradea, being in the center of the city. The theatre is in very good conditions, all the staff is very friendly. People can buy snacks while the actors are taking a brake and of course they can enjoy the meal during the play. The inside decoration and the own construction is really matching with the Budapest operetta with less seats obviously.

Attended Oscar and the Lady in Pink. Great atmosphere, had a wonderful time here. This building is also one of the landmarks of the city - central location with a nice plaza in front. We will certainly come back.

The City Hall of Oradea, a stunning neoclassical edifice completed in 1903, stands proudly at the heart of Union Square. This impressive structure features a striking clock tower that reaches 164 feet into the sky. Union Square itself has evolved since the 18th century into a vibrant hub adorned with monumental buildings showcasing an array of architectural styles including Baroque and Romantic influences.
Oradea is a city in northwest Romania, split by the Crișul Repede River. It’s known for baroque and art nouveau architecture, remnants of the Austro-Hungarian empire. Secessionist buildings line central Strada Republicii. Nearby, the neoclassical State Theater dominates King Ferdinand Square. The 18th-century Bishop’s Palace, with its frescoed rooms, is now home to the Museum of the Crisana Region.

Luckily I was able to see the changes made in approximately 1 year in the city center. It looks so good right now, yet still under construction. It will be one of the most beautiful city centers in Romania. I totally recomend a bakery that's right after the bridge as you go from the tram station. We walked around on the bench of Cris river and we bumped into 3 swans which were so beautiful. Totally worth to visit city!

It's a very nice surprise how the the city centre looks like. It's obviously that they used the money to renovate the old buildings which they look nice and gives you a very cosy feeling

I am local, and I really enjoy spending time here, it is a nice open space, for events, gatherings and so on. A place to have your morning coffee or sip your prosecco with a view. Spring offers a color show. Hope this pandemic will end soon and hope you will enjoy this place!

Nestled in the vibrant Unirii Square, the Black Eagle Palace stands as a stunning example of Secessionist architecture, completed in 1908. This architectural gem was designed by Marcell Komor and Dezso Jakab and showcases the artistic movement that emerged from Vienna. Originally a multifunctional space featuring a hotel, theatre, cafes, and shops, it has undergone significant rehabilitation since 2011.
Beautiful place year round! Restaurants and cafes inside as well as a pub and bar. Very cool decor at all times of the year. This time we walked through on Christmas and the dictations are awesome! Beautiful palace.

This is a free entry place, it's a shopping gallery, and it's an historic building for the city, quite wonderfully restored and brought back to modernity. The painted window that is on the outside of the building is new, but the one that is on the inside, that's the original one from 1907, when the building was built.
Lucian C — Google review
The Black Eagle Palace (Palatul Vulturul Negru) in Oradea is nothing short of an architectural jewel and a must-visit for anyone seeking a blend of history, culture, and elegance. The moment you walk through its Art Nouveau gallery, you’re transported into a different era — intricate stained-glass windows (with the iconic black eagle), lavishly decorated passageways, and a refined atmosphere that makes the entire experience feel exclusive. Beyond the stunning architecture, the a la carte restaurant inside offers a perfect culinary complement to the setting. Their menu is carefully curated, with standout dishes like pasta all’Amatriciana, which strikes the perfect balance between authentic Italian flavors and a refined presentation that matches the palace’s grandeur. Whether you're in for a full meal or just an aperitif, the cocktails and fresh, fruit-based drinks add a refreshing touch — perfect for lingering in the stylish gallery. The Black Eagle is more than a landmark; it’s a living space for art, fine dining, and relaxation, making it ideal for a leisurely lunch, an evening drink, or even just a quiet moment to admire its historic charm. It’s no exaggeration to say this is Oradea’s cultural and social heart — a destination that delights the eyes and the palate in equal measure.
Cristian C — Google review
Absolutely gorgeous place. It's close to being kitsch but doesn't break the border. Reminds me of galleries of Milano and Torino, but with that wonderful, crazy art nouveau soul. I couldn't stop staring and taking photos of the place. Inside the palace, there are nice restaurants, pubs, and shops.

The Black Eagle Palace (Palatul Vulturul Negru) in Oradea, Romania, is a stunning example of Art Nouveau architecture, designed by architects Dezső Jakab and Marcell Komor between 1907 and 1908. Situated in Union Square, this Y-shaped building features a glass-covered passageway adorned with intricate stained glass, including a prominent black eagle emblem. Originally serving as an inn and later a hotel, the palace evolved into a multifunctional complex housing shops, cafes, and entertainment venues. Its ornate facades, decorative elements, and vibrant interior make it a must-see landmark, reflecting Oradea's rich cultural heritage and architectural grandeur.
Gábor M — Google review
Beautiful building, you can spend some time looking at the details and do not forget about the glass mosaic, it's beautiful with the sun shining through it
Andrii — Google review
Very interesting place. The interior is really nicely decorated; it's fun to walk through even if all the cafes are closed during the day. Beautiful stained glass windows. Many great restaurants. You'll definitely find somewhere to eat. One great thing is the city center itself, a great place for attractions. Good emotions for everyone.❤️❤️❤️❤️

The Moon Church in Oradea, also known as the Assumption Cathedral, is a Christian Orthodox church built between 1784-1790. Architecturally, it combines Byzantine art with that of the Central European Late Baroque.✝️ This church was named so because of a unique mechanism in Europe, located on the church tower, which is intended to set in motion a sphere with a diameter of 1 meter, in the shape of a moon. In 1920, the "Church with the Moon" was raised to the rank of a cathedral and served as the Orthodox cathedral of Oradea for 200 years. 🌙✨ Visited November 2023

Situated in the heart of Oradea, at piața Unirii (unity square) the church with moon will not escape your notice as the beautiful baroque corner of the square, so why not go in and marvel at the beautiful frescos and inhale the incense heavy air. There is also a small museum room the attendend will gladly show you if you are interested.
Chat N — Google review
It is a very very nice church, a bit dark, worth a visit.
Luna E — Google review
Built in baroque style towards the end of the 18th century as a Catholic church it now serves as a functional Orthodox church. The main square of Oradea is thus host to an Orthodox, a Catholic and a Uniate church, a wonderful statement for unity and tolerance. The architecture is beautiful on the outside and the inside, the renovation works fully present the edifice in all its' splendor. At night it features amazing lighting like the rest of the square and it also glows beautifully at sunset. There is a small museum close by which can be visited if you ask around for the guide. Very informative and knowledgeable guide put the history of the place into perspective. There is no charge for visiting the museum but you are advised to leave a donation for the church.

Nestled in the heart of Oradea, Romania, the Oradea Zoo spans an impressive 7.5 hectares and is a delightful escape from urban life. This charming zoo is home to around 700 animals representing over 150 species, including majestic lions, playful capybaras, and even rare Siberian tigers. It's a fantastic destination for families and animal lovers alike, offering an opportunity to observe exotic wildlife in a lush green setting.
Lots of animals, wellkept. You can buy food at the entrance and feed them, which was very nice.
Alkaiba — Google review
The Oradea Zoo is a great place to visit, especially for families and photography enthusiasts. The zoo is very clean, well-maintained, and has a good selection of animals, including large species like lions and bears. The location is excellent, close to the city center, and the entrance fee is quite reasonable. However, some of the enclosures feel too bare and could be improved to better suit the animals’ needs. It is also disappointing to see that some animals that are supposed to live in groups are kept alone in their cages. A bit more attention to their natural behavior would make this zoo even better. Overall, it’s a nice place for a short visit and definitely worth the entrance fee, but there is still room for improvement in terms of animal welfare.
Joachim H — Google review
The zoo was a nice experience and is definitely a good place to take your kids to. I've definitely visited better zoos but for a small city zoo, it's within the standard. The living conditions of the animals on the other hand aren't the best. Don't expect an exotic zoo but there was a lot of animals to see.
Riško S — Google review
The zoo is ok, but the animals dont look too happy there. The enclosures are pretty small for the wild cats and the monkeys, they seem very bored. The goats and horses look very well taken care of. Loved the chickens.
Ioana-Livia M — Google review
Small Zoo but surprisingly, the animals are well taken care of. There are a couple of lions, leopards and three tigers. Kids can feed some animals and have a few options to get some popcorn or snacks.
Oana B — Google review
Very nice zoo to go with kids !
Ferrarizzi N — Google review
Beautiful zoo, very nice animals, clean and they have some space. I like the fact that you can feed some animals. One of the nicest zoo s in Romania.
Mircea A — Google review
One for children. There is nothing for adults to do here. A small place with many animals; they are not in enclosures. As for the other animals, the conditions are poor for them. You won't see anything interesting anyway, maybe just a tiger or a leopard. The amusements in the park itself are not working, and it looks like a ghost town. The ticket costs only 5.5€; if you go with children, I think the children will have fun. If you go as an adult, I don't recommend it; you will be disappointed.👎👎👎👎👎

(Translated by Google) The Water Lily Lake in the Băile Felix resort is one of the most beautiful and special natural places in Romania, a true monument of nature. Located in the heart of the resort, the lake is famous for its thermal water lilies, unique in Europe. The lake's water has a constant temperature of approximately 30 °C, which makes it possible for exotic water lilies to exist and bloom throughout the year. Among them, the thermal water lily (Nymphaea lotus var. thermalis) stands out, a protected species with delicate white flowers that float gracefully on the water surface, spreading a rare beauty. Pink and yellow water lilies also grow around them, giving the place a fairy-tale air. In addition to water lilies, the lake is home to turtles, exotic fish and even rare species of snails and birds, creating a small, special ecosystem. The view is spectacular: the clear water, dotted with the roundness of green leaves and elegant flowers, reflects in the sunlight, transforming the place into a living painting. Surrounded by alleys and resting areas, the lake becomes an attraction for tourists and a symbol of the Baile Felix resort. It is not only a place of natural beauty, but also a lesson in respect for nature, because every flower and every creature here exists thanks to the fragile balance of the environment.

I can't recommend this place for families with babies. You can use only 1 pool, and you can't sit next to your baby in the pool. You have to stand or sit on the edge of the pool. In other pools you can't bring in your child under 3. The buffet prices is okay, but I hadn't got my paid lángos, because they had to change the gas cylinder, and this took more than an hour, so we didn't wait for it. Anyway the pools are nice. There are 2 thermal pools, 1 experience pool, and 1 children's pool.
Zoltán Z — Google review
Great place to visit with family in the heat of the summer. The entry fee is not bad, the pools are nice, there is plenty of shade and the kids love the water slides. My only concern is that guests seem not to bother about where they smoke. There are designated smoking areas but people smoke almost everywhere - except the pools, of course. Although I actually saw a family having their lunch in the kids pool... Couldn't believe my eyes.
Peter M — Google review
In winter you have a pool for swimming at 27 degrees, covered with roof (25 meters). Outside only one thermal pool will be available, but usually there's enough space for everyone (I mostly go here on Sunday) - this pool is placed outside and you'll have to walk approx 50 meters to this pool trough a nylon tunnel so it's quite chilly but personally I love cold. During summer you'll most likely have outside two thermal pools, one cold pool for kids and another one for adults and of course the pool for swimming inside just like during winter. You'll have plenty of sun all day long.

Nestled in the charming town of Gyula, Hungary, the stunning Gyula Castle is a remarkable 600-year-old Gothic structure that invites visitors to explore its rich history and breathtaking views. This beautifully refurbished castle offers an interactive experience for families, making it a perfect destination for those traveling with children. As you wander through its ancient halls and narrow circular staircases, you'll discover fascinating exhibits that bring the past to life.
This is a must visit in Gyula, one of the most important landmarks of the city, rich in history and culture. We have enjoyed our time here regardless of the rain and would recommend visiting it! 😄

Pretty cool castle! Mix of both modern and new areas although more of it is renovated than original. Cool bird outside. Each room has an exhibition and I saw some pretty cool elements which I haven’t seen in other museums before. Worth the visit if you’re in the area!

Nice castle with the river next to it. There are hawks outside the entrance, which was very interesting. Around the river, if you walk, you find lots and lots of ducks and ducklings and other birds

Pleasant and unique experience, an example of how a citadel built in the 15th century, can be enhanced and provide us with a lot of historical information through the owned collections and multimedia presentations. Unfortunately, the multimedia presentations are only in Hungarian, maybe in the future they will add presentations in tune or more international languages
Calin H — Google review

This is one of the most important historical landmarks of Gyula. Visiting it is a nice experience because it's nice and it's a crucial part of the city's history that dates back to hundreds of years. This is a true medieval experience that shouldn't be missed by people coming to visit Gyula. I recommend it! 👍⭐️👏💪
Mario-Liviu G — Google review
We visited the castle with our 11 and 9 year old kids, they absolutely loved it, and so did us. We paid about 38 EUR for 2 adults and 2 kids, but the tickets included visits for the Andrássy castle too. I say it's a fair price. The castle is completely restaured, there is even a real blacksmith shop on site, where you can buy for about 3 EUR a lucky horseshoe with your name on it.
Laszlo E — Google review
Gyula Castle, located in southeastern Hungary, is a beautifully preserved medieval fortress offering a unique glimpse into the country's rich history. Built in the 15th century, the brick castle features a moat, high defensive walls, and a stunning inner courtyard. Inside, visitors can explore a well-curated museum showcasing period weapons, furniture, and historical exhibits. The panoramic view from the tower is worth the climb. Seasonal reenactments and cultural events add extra charm to the visit. Its peaceful park surroundings and proximity to thermal baths make it an ideal day trip destination. Gyula Castle masterfully blends history, architecture, and leisure.

Very well organised, beautiful museum. A great place to visit if you have kids. They have many interactive exhibitions, great for kids. We visited the castle in a Sunday afternoon and it was almost empty. If you visit Gyula, don't miss this place.

Great exhibition! We had a guide. Interesting stories. Teenagers enjoyed the guided tour. Magic mirror!
Eszter K — Google review
Wonderful, a place full of history. They preserved some parts from the original castle. The museum is very well done, organised and I like a lot the exhibition. You can buy a ticket to visit the temporary exhibition which unfortunately it is only in Hungarian, you can buy a ticket for the permanent exhibition which is amazing, everything is also translated in English, so that's great and you can also pay to go on the roof top of the castle to enjoy the wonderful view. Totally worth it! Enjoy!
Raluca P — Google review
The castle itself is beautiful inside and outside, great interactive exhibitions on a huge site, a very good value to money! The temporary Sissi exhibition however was small and less outstanding. It was also interactive though and they shared a lot of information about Sissi, but there weren't many of her clothes or furniture from her castle in Gödöllő, where I believe the original Sissi exhibition is. I have found the temporary exhibition a bit pricey, comparing it to the whole castles entry fee which is only 50% higher, but there are a lot more to see and do. The castle also has a brilliant gift shop, selling all sorts of things from fridge magnets to books and even umbrellas about the castle or the towns other sights and about the temporary exhibition. The on site coffee shop serves nice coffee in various tastes and delicious cakes. The terrace of the coffee is dog friendly and you can also smoke at the outside tables.
Emese S — Google review
The renewed building is very impressive, the staff and exhibitions are real professionals. The interactive parts of the exhibitions make it real joyful and fun to the entire family; go with your kids and all of you will enjoy the story and also the history. 😊🏰🗡⚔️🛡🙏🏼👽

This castle exceeded my expectations! It was traditional, full of history but very modern (with the newest interior decor trends) at the same time. If you visit this place, you can learn a lot about the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries’ lifestyle and how people lived, worked and behaved, what the etiquette was how the children learnt, what fashion trends were impressive at that time. It can take 2-3 hours to see everything and I am not kidding!
Lilla K — Google review
Very nicely renovated, displaying a lot of artifacts that take you back in time. New technology implemented to help visitors experience past times. Visited also a Herendi porcelan exhibition in one section of the castle, it was quite impresive. Highly recommend to visit.
Alex P — Google review
The castle itself is really nice with interactive pieces being present for the visitors. However, I was very sad when I saw a real pen with ink asking me to write my letter, yet we didn't receive any paper to write on. I still recommend visiting the museum, but be aware, that you should spend at least 2 hours just to walk through and take a look at things.

This shopping center is kinda average. It could've been better and it needs improvement. Most of the toilets are unhygienic. The mall isn't organised very well. The shops are tiny and a bit poor. Work needs to be done to improve things. Overall, I'll give it 3/5. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Hunor S — Google review
I've went to only a few shop's most of it was clothing search. In some stores staff is not interested in helping you on the other hand in others... the staff members we're too pushy but not professionaly trained. If i search for one clothing brand and i want a t-shirt of that brand that doesn't mean that you have to offer me everything from that brand (shoes, bags, hoodies) and force me to buy it. If someone doesn't need something don't get mad if they refuse to buy what they DON'T NEED. Dont force people. There were some older staff members i didn't know they work there I thought they were just buyer's... It was confusing when older granny in a black and white dotted dress asked me what kinda skate shoes I like? 😅 I was like: wait... you work here?

The webpage contains still the opening hours from the winter. I called the phone number. A man picked it up, without telling his name. I asked, that is there the projection today, on Monday? He answered: “no, but it will be on Tuesday, at 21:00.” I asked, can we visit the exhibition before? The answer was “yes”. We arrived on Tuesday at 20:00. A lady just closed the exhibition, because it closes at 20:00. And told to us, that the projection is organized only at weekends. Nobody picked up the phone then. Terrible organization, will be shortly bankrupted? We driven 100 km for that :(

Wine producer location. Nice place, great view from the top of the hill. You can stay over night, get a tour of the winery, listen to the wine making process, from the owner itself if you catch him there. Lots of types of wine. The room was clean. The breakfast is simple, omelette, eggs, various salami, cheese, fresh vegetables, cereal, coffee, tea, water. We were with a group, had dinner which you can prebook, had the tour and wine tasting. We had a series of 9 wine taste, but they have details on the webpage if interested. They have also a shop were you can buy the wines they are producing. You can buy bottled and also bulk wine.

The guesthouse is located at the base of a hill with their vineyards, so great positioning. As you climb the hill you can see up to Arad, plus the vineyards landscape. The food is good and in large portions. The service is nice. You have access to great wines and good prices directly from the cellar. The room had AC. We had a small incident regarding type of room which was quickly solved in a positive manner. The personnel is friendly. The rooms are quite basic, maybe a bit basic for the price. No fridge in the room. If you are alone at the guesthouse in small group, limited menu is available for meal.

The landscape is great and I am sure that during summer, when the terrace is open the view makes all the money. The food would be 7/10, the staff, very close to 10/10, professional and affable. Overall it was an OK experience.
Frantiuc A — Google review
This restaurant is quite a legend among locals in Arad. It is a restaurant, but most of its panache is because of the terrace during the warm season. The prices are low, the foods are great, especially the "mici" (minced meat meatballs on the barbecue), draft beers, but they also have a menu. The location is extraordinary, exactly on the Mures river bank. This is the best characteristic of this restaurant. Unfortunately, the services are not great and are always understaffed. This is already in the urban myth and it is known that when you are there, when you get to order, you must order the food, all the beers you want to drink and maybe when you receive them, you pay. Other than that it is great.
Vlad M — Google review
this place has an amazingly bad reputation with the locals. it has one of the most adored locations in the city, right by the river, and yet, the management has failed to deliver on a simple aspect in the service industry: quality waiters. apart from the fact that they are always late with any type of order, be it just a bottle of soda that just needs to be taken out of the fridge and taken to the customer, they are rude, rarely answer your calls and if you want the complain and are straight up belligerent. and if the venue hosts football nights, forget about you drinks. :)
Zsolt K — Google review
Even though the location is nice, the service is horrible with extremely rude staff, just ignoring customers. The waiters do not understand english (i.e. Redbull must be translated to Romanian) and apparently are also suffering from cerebral achromatopsia. Just save yourself some time and don't ruin your day by visiting this place.
Gabriel R — Google review
Such a shame, wonderful location, but staff incredibly rude. After waiting 25 minutes just for our order to be taken, when complained to the waitress she replied: well if you waited 25 minutes you can wait another half an hour. We got up and just left... Don't waste your time
Oana K — Google review

Cramele Recaș Store is a fantastic wine shop that offers an extensive selection of bottled wines. The store has a top brand section called Solo Quinta, which is highly regarded. Additionally, they have various fruity and sweet blends available. Although Solo Quinta may be pricier than other options, there is also a delightful coupe red wine blend that costs around 20 lei. The store provides breathtaking views of the vineyards, particularly during sunset.
Beautiful views of the vineyards, especially around sunset. Went there for a dinner and wine tasting event. The building is quite nice, a bit moldy in the basement where the dinner took place. Good wines, good food, even better landscapes around.

Very nice wine store for bottled wine, I really enjoy their top brand section Solo Quinta as well as a few other fruity and sweet blends. While Solo Quinta is more expensive than usual, the sweet, coupe red wine blend which I also loved is around 20 lei.

Place looks amazing and they have a wine shop where you can buy bottles. They offer a short tour and if you set an appointment you can be served food and drinks. For groups of 5-6 people they make the appointments only during their opening hours but for bigger groups they are more flexible with the schedule.

Absolutely wonderful, so clean and the people are so nice. Went to find a specific type of wine and the amazing lady there was so helpful! Thank you!
Alexander P — Google review
First of all, a good wine is the wine you like enough to drink. " I accept any philosophy, if it is sprinkled with a good wine." ☺️For me a good wine is a balanced wine, and in a glass of balanced wine no flavor stands out in favor of another.

Bega River, flowing through the heart of Timisoara, offers a picturesque setting with lush greenery and charming bridges. The riverbank provides a beautiful walking path where you can admire the cityscape and the Timisoara Orthodox Cathedral from afar. In summer, riverside cafes and restaurants create a lively atmosphere. Bega River is not only an aquatic lifeline but also a hub for events and festivals that celebrate the city's natural beauty.
Boat ride is only 1 lei , highly recommend!

A very nice river which pass through all Timisoara Town. To admire the places, and parks that are situated on both banks of the river you can take the public bus boat and make a short journey. The boats are new and modern. A good way of transportation!
Eugen D — Google review
Nice to have a walk on the shore, you can also take the boat bus but there are still some thinks that need improvements. Also Bega Boulevard it's a lovely event and in the summer you may enjoy a lot of restaurants on both sides.

The dirtiest and the most smelly river you can find in Serbia. To be even funnier there is no industiral waste, the main reason is that sewerage from the whole city with around 70k citizens, goes to this river, then via Tisza and Danube to Black sea where people swimming in our wastewater
Igor I — Google review
One of the nicer things about Timisoara has to be its river Bega. Recently some things have changed but here's an update : 1) the closer you get to the central part of town, the more you'll be pleased aesthetically by the river banks. 2) good place to go by bike for a ride. Nice for long strolls. A good choice for runners also. 3) you've got many options when it comes to food and drinks as far as I am concerned 4) plenty of parks near it that you can explore if you chose to do so 5) activities such as kayaking are out for now because city council has put in a new transportation system in place (small boats up to 50 people i think) that I can't be 100% objective about because some restrictions have been put in place now on water sports on the river so I'll let you make up your mind on how you feel about it. 6) fishing is possible if that's something you enjoy 7) further plans on enhancing aesthetics are in place and on going.

Nice parks and side walks. Nice for a week relaxing by the river, playground for kids. Activities in the water. It's getting better and better as time goes by.

A huge mall with a lot of shops and brands to satisfy every taste! 🥰 I loved the shop Lefties that I got to discover. I also liked the large Auchan supermarket because we have the same chain in France. They had a lot of interesting things! There’s an also a beauty salon and the mall has a big food court plus it is surrounded by a lot of restaurants outside. A mall worth discovering that’s not that far away from the city center 😉

History Museums
The Revolution Memorial Association, also known as Memorialul Revolutiei, is a museum and memorial in Timisoara, Romania dedicated to the events of the 1989 revolution that led to the end of the country's communist regime. The museum offers several exhibitions covering both national and international aspects of the December 1989 events through a collection of photos, films, and stories. Visitors can explore artifacts and interactive exhibits that provide insight into this pivotal moment in Romanian history.
A very interesting and comprehensive repository of experiences, historical context, and art installations that teach you about the Romanian Revolution and at the same time can inspire the person visiting. Has a bit of everything: immersive, documented, visual displays, and what makes it incredible truly is how detailed it is at narrating where Romania was and where it went. 100% recommend!
Joana ( — Google review

A truly enlightening experience! The Museum of the Revolution in Timișoara provides a powerful and authentic insight into the events of 1989. The exhibition is engaging and easy to follow, and the staff is exceptionally kind and helpful. Highly recommended for anyone interested in the city’s and Romania’s modern history.
Milan B — Google review
As a Hungarian, I very highly recommend visiting this place! Whether you were already alive to watch the Revolution on TV or not, this place reminds of what the communist block, and especially Romania was like, and how the people rose up against oppression. Great detail is devoted to all topics before and during the Revolution, both in English and in Romanian. The exhibit is not very interactive, but gives unparalleled insight into a major historical milestone in Eastern Europe. Unfortunately, there is also a lot of lessons to be learned about today's politics. Overall, a very impactful and meaningful exhibition, highly recommended! Without watching the documentary, we spent almost 2 hours walking around here, and I even went back to buy a photo ticket. Oh also the guy at the entrance was really welcoming and helpful, and spoke excellent English! (I'm not sure why I keep highlighting this, we never had any language trouble in Romania during our visit. ;) )
Norbert S — Google review
Must see when in Timișoara. The exhibit is both informative and presented in a way that will leave a strong impression. We can learn a lot from the Romanian people's fight for freedom.
Luka M — Google review
I didn't know what to expect from the museum and it was really hard to find as well (the entrance can be reached from Strada Paul Chinezu) but once I got in and got to meet Michael, who was working there, he really made my visit worthwile. He was very knowledgeable and willing to show me the museum around and answer all my questions. His positive attitide had a positivr effect on my visit. The museum can be done quite quickly but there is also extensive amount of text and info also in English for those interested to dive in the subject. It was cool to see actual items donated from that time and I learned so much about Romanian history and the revolution.
J-P P — Google review
Had the chance to explore the memorial and was genuinely impressed. Got a warm welcome from a super friendly staff member who explained everything clearly in great English. You can tell the team has put amazing work into setting up the place, it’s thoughtful, moving, and informative. It’s a bit tricky to find, tucked away through a strange little path, but definitely worth the effort once you’re there. A meaningful visit.
Amanjot G — Google review
I really enjoyed my visit. It’s a great reminder of what people have had to do to gain freedom, as well as the absurdity of autocracy. They have a mix of informational panels (sometimes heavy on detail), art pieces/installations, and photographs. One of the highlights for me was the photograph collection upstairs. They look like us. And kudos to the guy at the front. He put up with my 20 minutes of questions and, being a historian, he had great answers.

Roses Park in Timisoara is a serene and picturesque park renowned for its vibrant rose gardens, hosting various outdoor concerts, festivals, and events. The park's history dates back to the 1891 Universal Exposition and has undergone several transformations. With over 6000 rose bushes, it boasts one of the largest rose collections in Europe.
A beautiful park spread across more than 6 acres of land on the shore of the Began canal. The park has been an important landmark of the city since its opening in 1819. After being destroyed during the war, the park has been renovated several times, with new roses and new canopies and seating areas being added each time. Throughout the year the park is host for several cultural events while the roses bloom during spring and summer, providing an exceptional view and scent.

Beautiful park. Right next to the river. Roses did not flurish yet, when we visited, but still was very nice. Must see place in Temisoara in my opinion.

The park is big and was transformed into a huge space for the festival this week 😍 I am so glad we got to experience this beautiful cultural and diverse experience during our 5-day stay in Timişoara 🥰 There were people from all ages, families, and lots of talented artists 🤩 There were also food trucks lined up on the street before going in the park so I am super happy I got to eat more Romanian food too 🥹 The park is clean, well maintained and very relaxing for walks or runs or spending time alone or either family/friends. I highly recommend to visit it and wander around 😊

We visited in early April, which was too early for roses to bloom (but other flowers were in full bloom all across the city). Still, it was obvious that this was well designed park and popular place. The park is located just minutes from the city center, on the beautiful bank of the Bega river. Also, the street leading to the park has beautiful trees which were on full bloom when we visited.

This was one of my favourite mud holes in Romania. Personally, I’m glad they cleared away all the roses because they were likely ruining the view of all the mud. I appreciate Timisoara is known as a garden city but I’d gladly support its transition to the nations favourite building site for 2026.

It's a small park in the city center. There are lots of roses to admire, but most are small, and very few are perfumed. When you're surrounded by roses, you'd expect rose perfume.

Wide and long square where one can enjoy sitting on the bench looking at the greenery, flowers and beautiful colored facades. Like in a fairytale during all seasons! Both for kids and people of all ages. Everything seems authentic, no shining billboards like in other European cities. I’m sure to visit it again ❤️

It's a posh little square. It is lined with flowers and fountains. Benches between the flower beds are lovely to sit and take a small break from walking. It seems like there will be a big event here as there are a lot of vans with heavy equipments are being set on the ground. (Today is September 24 2025)

Built in the early 20th century, Victory Square features impressive architecture from the Secession and Neo-Romanian styles. The facades of the buildings surrounding the square are richly decorated, giving it a charming, old-European atmosphere. The wide promenade through the center is filled with colorful flowers and fountains, making it a favorite place for locals and tourists to walk and relax. It is really a beautiful place.

Cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
The "Three Holy Hierarchs" Metropolitan Cathedral is a remarkable Neo-Moldavian Romanian Orthodox cathedral located in its own park on the south side of Piata Victoriei. It is a technical marvel, able to accommodate 5,000 worshippers under its nine towers. The cathedral's design was influenced by Medieval Byzantine churches of Moldavia and features a cavernous interior without columns, made possible through the use of reinforced concrete.
We stopped by the Metropolitan Cathedral on a warm afternoon and were truly touched by its peaceful and majestic presence. The architecture is stunning, both inside and out, but what really took us by surprise was the Cathedral Museum located in the basement. It’s a must-visit – featuring an impressive collection of religious icons on wood, glass, and canvas, beautifully embroidered and sculpted sacred objects, as well as a remarkable selection of old religious books. It adds so much depth to the experience and gives visitors a real appreciation for the spiritual and artistic heritage of the area. Truly a serene and enriching place.

Old city of Timisoara, Romania, first class experience. Nice interesting old buildings reconstructed, clean streets. Everything is in a walking distance, you do not need taxis. Lots of cafes and restaurants not expensive that depends, sorry. We at at traditional Romanian restaurant which Offer Romanian cuisine, very tasty and for 2 big portion it was AUS$ 47. Again Australian $ is very low about 1€=2aus $. We travelled by car and pared it in city centr. We bought SIM card just for a day.

This is the simbol of Timișoara, the beautiful orthodox cathedral. A place that we all love and cherish. Anyways, we cannot, and should not forget that on December 1989 the clergy closed and locked the main doors and the people of Timisoara, were massacred on the stairs of the church!

The Romanian Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral in Timișoara is one of the city’s most iconic landmarks and a true architectural masterpiece. Its imposing Neo-Romanian design, adorned with distinctive mosaics and stained-glass windows, dominates the main boulevard. The interior radiates warmth and spiritual peace, decorated with beautiful icons and frescoes. The cathedral also holds great historical significance, especially during the events of 1989, making it a place of silent tribute. A visit here leaves a lasting impression and offers a glimpse into Romania’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage.

Cathedral of the Three Holy Hierarchs made me truly speechless. From the moment I spotted its soaring towers and colourful glazed-roofs, I knew I had entered a place where history, faith and art come together in one magnificent experience. For any traveller to Timişoara, this cathedral isn’t just a landmark to photograph — it’s an experience to feel. I left with a sense of having touched something much greater than just beautiful architecture: a living piece of heritage and heart of the city. You must go there. PLUS - in general Timisoara city is beaitiful and worth visiting - the city center is amazing full of interesting places. Timișoara is a masterpiece, multicultural city with a rich architectural heritage and a forward-looking spirit so if you will have time just go there.
