Outdoor Activities
La Vallée Des Singes is a unique park where visitors can observe various species of monkeys, lemurs, and apes in their natural habitats. The walk-through enclosures provide an up-close experience with the animals, especially during feeding times when they come out in front for observation. Despite some areas showing signs of wear and occasional puddles on the paths, the overall experience is worth it. The park also focuses on conservation and education efforts.
Amazing place if you like monkeys ! The animals seem well taken care of, they have loads of space and activities to do on their islands. The park and its employees take part in actions to protect wild monkeys around the globe and it is advertised in the park, making you aware of the species that are endangered and what is done to safeguard them. Overall a great experience!
Alex — Google review
A really lovely day out. Well worth the visit. All age groups will enjoy.
Noel M — Google review
What a great attraction! The animals are well kept and the keepers well informed as well as friendly. We had a great time learning about the animals and getting up close !
Jajayes — Google review
Great spectacle. A lot of different spieces in a large open area. Animals mostly looked active and stimulated. Got a close as ever been to animals. A massive improvement on traditional zoo environment. Watching the chimps and gorilla's confirmed to me we are related.
Andrew H — Google review
Have never experienced a zoo like this before. None of the monkeys were behind bars, so the experience felt more like a walking safari! The animals clearly have tons of space and are able to exhibit natural behaviours, however they are easy to spot and you can get extremely close to some. Lots of shade on a hot day, facilities excellent. It was a really enjoyable day out.
Sarah M — Google review
Great day out for the whole family ranging from grandparents to 5 year old. Plenty of monkeys to see, none of them behind bars! Would recommend a cooler day (we were there during a heat wave so 36 degrees!!) and wearing comfortable footwear. U can buy drinks and snacks/icecreams for reasonable prices, and lunch too!
Emma T — Google review
Lovely monkey reserve with over 400+ monkeys and lots of different species. Super kids friendly (please note explanations from the staff is in French). Food at the canteen is far to be amazing, I would recommend a picnic bag
Dam — Google review
An excellent day out. Plenty of space to walk around and view the monkeys of all different variations in each section. It’s very well signposted to get from place to place either in order or getting around for the feeding times. There are nice spaces to sit and eat and the feeding times are well spaced out on the map. Thanks for a good family day out. 🤙

Embarcadère Cardinaud is a professional outfit that offers guided boat rides to explore the enchanting Marais Poitevin, also known as Green Venice. The area is characterized by its duckweed-covered canals, creating an emerald hue that adds to its allure. Navigating the intricate waterways can be challenging, making it ideal to leave it in the hands of experts like Embarcadère Cardinaud.
Just the most relaxing, coolest way to spend a hot morning. Our batelier Marc was very knowledgeable and passionate about wildlife and about his work, which was delightful - we felt lucky to have him punting us about! The marais is a fascinating place and I didn't want the balade to end.
Louise T — Google review
This is a hidden gem! A boat tour along the canal with your own personal local guide :) they speak English, ask for Henry, he was delightful! We took the boat along the canal and got to see amazing nature and the beautiful small town of Coulon. You have several options, you can even get a pick-nick basket provided to you during your ride, which can be anywhere between one hour and 2 hours, I believe. The cost is about €16 per person for a more private boat ride or about €12 per person together with other people. Well worth the cost, serene ride, kid friendly, couple friendly, you can pay with a card or cash. Perfect small town French experience :)
Oana P — Google review
Amazing trip with an amazing tour guide, Philippe! We highly recommend taking the 2h trip
Paulina P — Google review
Our tour guide was well versed, with sense of humour, friendly and sails very smooth
Eunice W — Google review
We walked over from the campsite and booked this ad hoc on a rainy day. What a pleasant surprise to have the new Boatman, Nicolai, give us a wonderful tour in English. He was very knowledgeable despite just beginning and was very friendly and engaging. The boat trip was peaceful and the history of the Dutch/Flemish influence about creating wet and dry marshlands to farm and traverse was intriguing! Thank you
Philip B — Google review
We did an 3h self exploring tour of the small canals. Beautifull and more chill when you go early, otherwise it can be boat traffic jam sometime. 😁
Youri B — Google review
Had a wonderful afternoon wandering around on the waterways on a guided boat tour. 12.50euros for adults and 9.50 for children for 1 and a half hour tour. It was burning hot, maybe the hottest day of the year, and under the trees with little breezes was perfect for keeping cool. I would recommend reserving in advance because all the boats were full and reserved while we were there, so not a last minute kind of activity.
Toni M — Google review
We hired two electric bikes from here. Efficient service, bikes were well maintained, and first aid was given when I fell off! The map provided wasn't great, and some waymarkers on routes unclear ( but that's not really their fault!) Best to reserve in school holidays, and maybe at any time. Cheaper than some other bike hire places. We weren't offered helmets, so you may want to take your own.

Remy Martin Cognac

Distillery
Remy Martin Cognac offers a comprehensive experience for visitors interested in learning about the history and production of cognac. The brand's headquarters provide tours that cover the entire cognac-making process, offering insights into the region and its significance. Visitors have the opportunity to taste their cognacs and even receive a souvenir glass.
I had an amazing time on the Rémy Martin tour in Cognac, France! The tour was incredibly informative, offering a deep dive into the history and craftsmanship behind cognac production. The guide was knowledgeable and passionate, and I left with a lot of new insights about the process and heritage of the region. The tasting at the end was a perfect way to wrap up the experience. Highly recommend this tour for anyone interested in learning more about cognac!
Krystian M — Google review
The “anniversary visit” is a 1.5-hour marketing tour where you’re walked through their premises (eg I can watch an ad with Usher on my own) with a large group and no photos allowed 🙄 At the end, you get just a cocktail, and not even a tasting of their actual cognac. I would recommend Martell just 5 minutes away, they have much better explanatory tour and friendlier customer service.
Sveta T — Google review
Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and friendly and ready to answer all our questions. The tour was slick and the tasting at the end was great (nice cocktail). Not being a cognac drinker I found it an informative experience. A nice small group.
Fiona R — Google review
One of a kind experience. We took the private tour with the private lunch and it was absolutely lovely and beautiful. A very special experience with lots of history, love and great people.
Martin J — Google review
Thomas was an excellent guide. He made the experience very fun, educational and unforgettable. We came for my brothers birthday, and had the best time! Thank you for an incredible experience Thomas, and the beautiful photos! My brother and I had a great time! :)

Our Opulence Tour was an incredible experience that far exceeded our expectations. Our host/guide, Romane, was passionate and extremely informative. Undoubtedly the highlight was XO pairings.

300 th anniversary tour in English. Covering the history of the distillery House, family and the Remy Martin brand name rather than the process of the cognac production . Lasted 1hr 45 mins.Interesting talk and tour broken up with a few films. Tasting of the VSOP and XO with salty and sweet accompaniment.

Les Arènes de Saintes

Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
Ancient Ruins
Amphithéâtre gallo-romain de Saintes is a remarkable ancient site dating back to 40 AD, during the reign of Emperor Claudius. With a seating capacity for up to 15,000 spectators, it hosted gladiator fights and battles with wild beasts. The lower tier of seating and some arches are still intact, allowing visitors to envision the grandeur of the past. Despite being overgrown, the shape and form of the amphitheatre are clearly visible.
Beautiful piece of history, a stunning place to visit and wonderful scenery all around.
James G — Google review
An amazing Roman arena tucked away in the suburbs of Saintes. You can walk all around the ruins, including into the arena itself. There are information sheets available in English at the ticket office. There is limited on site parking but this wasn't a problem when we visited.
Tim D — Google review
If you are visiting Saintes then would recommend making the effort to visit. There is some parking near the entrance but there is a public car park at the church near by but it’s a bit of a walk on a hot day and hilly. The facilities are very good.
Tweedie — Google review
A fascinating glimpse into Roman history! The amphitheatre is beautifully preserved, with plenty of space to wander. Peaceful surroundings and informative signs.
Geoff L — Google review
Well worth seeing. Can walk around the perimeter and look down on it without having to pay entry fee.
Craig K — Google review
Roman amphitheatre well worth a visit. Partly reconstructed, giving you a good sense of what it looked like.
Tillmann L — Google review
Well worth a look. Your 5 euro ticket also gets you into 3 other local museum's which I unfortunately did not have time to visit. They give you an interpretive sheet to help you understand what you're seeing. It gives you the chills to think you're standing where Agrippa once stood.
Cindy J — Google review
The Gallo-Roman amphitheatre of Saintes is an amazing remnant of our long ago past. We rented the audio guides (available in English and French) and spent a fascinating 45 minutes immersing ourselves in history and architecture. Don't miss the photo exhibition on the outer wall; just follow the green line around to the back of the Accueil building. It shows photos of all the phases of the amphitheatre for the last 200 or 300 years. There is an ingenious picnic table to enable someone in a wheelchair to pull up under the top and enjoy a meal at a table. Brilliant idea.

The area also boasts two picturesque forests, the Forest of Saint-Trojan and the Saumonard Forest, offering sheltered beaches ideal for families with young children. Visitors can explore oyster farms which are a major tourist draw on the island. The castle itself is stunning and surrounded by beautiful gardens.
This was really fun! As a family of 4 (two boys 7+9) really enjoyed it. We took a picnic and spend a good 4 hours there! The boys got a pirate diploma at the end.
Milou L — Google review
Really enjoyed this. We went on a Saturday, transferring between two holiday camps. It’s basically a 30-stage pirate themed treasure hunt, set in a small but very pretty castle and its garden. The puzzles are really varied, from obstacle course challenges to problems to solve. We did it with 2x adults, 2x 6 yr olds and 1x8 yr old. Some bits were too hard for the 6 yr olds, but not too frustrating with some parental help. Most of it is well translated, but there’s the odd bit where there’s no translation or it’s done a bit strangely. Didn’t spoil it and I think there’s an app which would help, but I prefer to put my phone away for stuff like this. The staff were really helpful and we had a very jolly 3-4 hours there, including our picnic. There’s a snack bar with drinks/ice cream, a bit of food and coffee from a MaxPax type machine. That suited us fine as we’d bought a picnic and there are tons of nice shady picnic benches. Most of the treasure hunt is in shady outdoor areas, so it’s a pretty smart option on a hot day. You’re not just roasting in the sun as you would be visiting many attractions. Overall, would recommend. Maybe a bit expensive at €70 for 5 of us, but that just seems to be how much things cost.
Brand N — Google review
Fantastic children's treasure hunt in french and English. Be aware the 27 clues are spaced over a couple of miles of woodland walks which are delightful. Lovely shady walkways through mature woods ending up at the house. The clues can be tricky too, so not a complete walk over either. Best treasure hunt we have been on, here or UK. Staff delightful Only 4 stars as the food available is limited to panini...crepes...ice cream at a single place but your kids will sleep well afterwards. Well worth a trip
James T — Google review
Very beautiful chateau, but you have limited access to the interior. Signs are in English as well as French. Fun activity for all to do the treasure hunt for clues. You receive a certificate at the end.
Larry P — Google review
Lots of activities for the kids, including a rope bridge and pirate quiz. Not much for the adults.
Craig B — Google review
Enjoyable quest around the castle. Children 6 and 8 were the perfect age. Most areas with english translation which was helpful. Fairly expensive for what you get hence 4 stars
Clare B — Google review
Loved it .great fun lots of riddles and in english and french ..
Lucia P — Google review
It's amazing ! I love this place. The castle is beautiful in itself and the gardens are really nice as well. The story with the riddles is part of beauty of this place. Everyone can enjoy it even though some riddles are made for younger children (7-8 years old).

Love the place!Paid 72e(2 areas) for the family (2 adults +2kids). Had great fun for a few hours. Area with sauna is more fun. Would definitely recommend! And hopefully will be able to come back;) There is a small snack bar where you can get some snack for 9e. Absolutely reasonable. Overall highly recommended place
Ira S — Google review
My experience here was not one of the best. In the complex I had a nice day of fun and relax, but the structure needs to be revisited. First of all, we bought a ticket with access to the two areas but once inside nobody was checking and anyone could have access to both areas, Many points need to be cleaned because there is mold, And lastly, we didn't even have the time to take a last shower since the workers at 6:30 precise were just pushing us out while we were changing.
Francesco B — Google review
What a huge disappointment. I lost my bathing suit and expected a great boutique. They had one size and blamed it on a late delivery of an order, having driven a long way, cat and dog in a camping car I negotiated 7.50e for just a shower. They wouldn’t allow me to even dry my hair downstairs. Sharp screws sticking out in the disabled shower, cubicles and sink area filthy, it was worse than some dirty old council pool. Excuses for a busy day when I asked if there’s no cleaner. Being a retired swim teacher I’ve worked in some nasty establishments, this was an absolute disappointment, the pool I can’t talk about but clearly over priced needs à refurb, à clean and a safety check
Fiona — Google review
Very expensive for what's offered. Certain facilities were out of order. Competitive prices in comparison to Euro Disney, except for the awesome attraction rides.
Sebastien W — Google review
Lovely place to spend a great day on the swimming pool. Great zone with waves. There is also an slide thats very enjoyable. Will repeat for sure. very clean . 10/10
Iñaki — Google review
Loved the place, clean, friendly staff, the water is warm and it is safe for the little ones. The only negative thing I found was that there was not enough food available, the restaurant was all reserved and the sandwich place only had a few sandwiches left but nothing small for children except sweets. I highly recommend and would go again.

Very happy with my stay at the hotel. Comfortable accommodations, excellent service, The staff have been friendly and helpful. A special thanks to Perrine, for her exceptional support. Her assistance was greatly appreciated. Highly recommend this hotel!

Very warm welcome, friendly staff, small birthday gift, everything was perfect and professional. Even our dog received a personalised welcome. The only downside was that the swimming pool was out of service, which was a shame given the scorching temperatures. We forgive them, as it was a technical problem. We highly recommend this establishment.
Miguel L — Google review
Having had to postpone our original visit in August due to the hôtels AC failing, we were quite looking forward to this trip. Being a Gold card holder we were hoping for a room upgrade, but as per normal it was not forthcoming. No room at the inn. We were well received by reception upon our arrival and given a good corner room, with a couple of windows to view the port... if you strained for a look from one side of one window or perhaps stood on a chair for the other, furniture placement prevented an easy view. The room was pretty well appointed and comforting with a very pleasant bathroom. We ate one night in the restaurant, of which the fare was good and pleasing. If I have a gripe it would be concerning the 'welcome drink', during the past 12 months we have stayed at 5 Mercure, 2 Mgallery and a Novotel, on all occasions two drinks were offered as a couple, but not here, you get one and pay for you partners. After everything, a good stay and a recommended hôtel
Geoff K — Google review
Excellent spacious hotel in great riverside location with lots of green space. Friendly service and (these days very important) good air conditioning.
Laurence B — Google review
Lovely hotel, tastefully decorated and well maintained. Staff extremely pleasant and attentive. Family room an excellent size and well equipped. Great choice and quality of food and drinks for breakfast.
Hayley E — Google review
Very nice room, location and overall facilities. Very kind staff and always available and in a great mood. The highlight of my stay was on the arrival day. I've checked in the evening without having dinner and very tired. The receptionist could "read my face" and immediately asked me if i wanted to have dinner on Mercure restaurant, even though it closes at 22h.
Ana S — Google review
Exceptional , staff a real crisis to the business would definitely book here again keep it up 🥰❤️
Christine H — Google review
We paid 200 € for the Standard room and that was much too expensive for this hotel. The room is rather small, the furniture already a little used and there were stains on the carpet. The service was alright but not what you would expect in this price category. However, if you get a better price (around 120€), this is a good hotel. And the breakfast was great (a lot of homemade things and great variety).

Association / Organization
Association Hermione La Fayette is a majestic flagship that showcases the work of a boatswain. Visitors can experience the rigging by trying out the Accro-Mats, offering a unique opportunity to reach great heights. The Royal Ropery, an impressive 374m tall building, is also worth exploring. Rochefort itself is steeped in history, with reminders of Lafayette and Napoleon at every turn.
Magnifique. A great reason to visit Rochefort. Hermione is nothing else than a piece of art, a volunteering effort, a very passionate crew. Thank you all for reviving the history thru this glorious ship and letting us the visitors to enjoy it. A must see in this part of France.

Beautoful ship, too bad they were fixing it when we came so we couldn't see the whole of it. Also, everything is in French - no English translation

Disappointing! No boat! At least not that we could see. Lots of interesting sub-museums each with own entry fee > €10 Made the mistake of arriving and looking at the town first with cafe in lovely square only to find that the museums were all closing in half an hour for a 2 hour lunch! Decided to go the Leclerc and go back to the caravan. Was so good had lunch in the supermarket if that isn’t sad! Great sandwich beer and wine. Rochefort - tick!!
Stephen W — Google review
We had a wander round in the mid-afternoon, it was great to see a tall ship that had clearly been lovingly reconstructed. Unfortunately, partly due to the size of our group, the cost of guided tours were a little more than we were willing to stomach. However, just the setting it's in and the surrounding area is well worth a look.

Stunning place. The Versailles of the maritime world. So glad we made the effort to visit. The city is small and delightful. A place for a culture fix for sure.
Andreas G — Google review
Rochefort surprised me as a so historical town. At each street corner an old place reminds you Lafayette, Napoleon or other war part of French naval history. The Hermione is a so large vessel, impressive with the masts, the inside deck, .... all is so fantastic a must see... and what is you are lucky to see her taking the see
Arnaud C — Google review
An amazing place to visit, plenty to do and see and explore. Take your time and stay a whole day to explore it.

Beautiful boat, what a pity that they don't have English information. Also, they could perhaps change the tents and have some permanent building. The temperature in the tents was unbearable.

The Monolithic Church of Saint-Emilion is an underground church carved from limestone, with a towering 68-meter bell tower. It dates back to the 12th century and is said to be made from a single stone. The majority of the church is located underground, and visitors can explore it on official tours organized by the Office of Tourism. The village was named after Emilion, an 8th-century hermit who established a religious community there.
Beautiful and well preserved. Love all the history and still the roman wall. Built on eachother. Love the streets and the wine.

Amazing history and architecture! This little town was established around 800AD. Every road is cobblestone so wear flat shoes with good grip. Try to see everything in this area. This is one of the oldest wine growing regions in the world.
Jamie J — Google review
This is an absolutely wonderful piece of medieval architecture, and a real glimpse into the life of a hermit and his followers. The tour is wonderful and takes you on a journey from the small cave in which St Emilion to the mic. Church carved out of the rock by his followers and the devout. No photographs are allowed, but they’re plenty online. This is a fantastic tour and a must if you are going to st Emilion

Best thing to do/see in town + not a rip off (unlike most things in saint emilion) You get given a key from the information desk and sent on your way. They only let a few people in at a time (around 6) so it’s not crowded at all! Make sure to go up the tower when you’re visiting!
Hattie C — Google review
I recommend getting the guided tour, it is worthwhile if you are in Saint-Emilion. Guide is available in many languages and goes through 4 different sections. The underground part is quite the spectacle. The workers were helpful and very knowledgeable on the church.

Cultural center
Cité du Vin is a cutting-edge wine museum housed in a striking curved aluminum and glass structure in Bordeaux. It offers interactive displays, guided tours, and tastings to educate visitors about the history and production of wine globally. The museum's modern design reflects the swirling motion of both the adjacent Garonne River and wine in a glass. With themed routes and multimedia exhibits, it explores wine's impact on history, geography, culture, and civilization.
Extremely well done - highly informative and interactive, incorporating all of the senses! You can learn as little or as much as you'd like, but one can easily spend a few hours here. The tasting (with 13 different wines from which to choose) on the top floor with beautiful views was icing on the cake on a beautiful summer's day. There is non-alcoholic options as well! Very well air-conditioned, so going in the heat of the afternoon during the heat dome was a huge relief as well! This is a must-visit while in Bordeaux, even if you don't like wine.
E H — Google review
Hard to fault this place. I visited around 6 years ago and it’s only got better. A comprehensive tale of world wine history. A good tasting on the 8th floor featuring international wines. I tried a Swiss wine that was new to me. There are lockers to hold bags as you wander. Excellent easy to use audio guide. A good Bodega. Prices are not crazy they cater for all tastes.
Craig T — Google review
La Cité du Vin is an absolute must-visit in Bordeaux — more than a museum, it’s a full sensory journey into the world of wine. The interactive exhibits are beautifully designed, combining history, culture, and tasting experiences in a modern, engaging way. You can easily spend hours exploring and still discover something new. The architecture itself is stunning, with its flowing, glassy curves reflecting the Garonne. Don’t miss the panoramic tasting room at the top — the view is spectacular. A brilliant tribute to wine culture, innovation, and pleasure.
Natalia B — Google review
LOVED this amazing museum!! It had the most immersive experience including aroma generator technology that I did not know existed. You can smell the aromas of a myriad of scents that are produced from wines, cognac, liquors, and champagne. And the production, service, and industry is covered at great detail. Fun for everyone of all ages. And the ticket provides for two samples on the 8th floor with spectacular views! The restaurant food is excellent, with both vegetarian and meat, seafood offerings. The desserts are amazing! Love the model and the story behind this innovative museum created from a competition around 2010.
Shafi K — Google review
Cité du Vin wine museum offers a fascinating journey through the history and culture of winemaking. The exhibits are well-curated, blending tradition with interactive displays. It’s the perfect place for wine enthusiast. After the exhibits, you can go to the 8th floor to enjoy a panoramic view of the Garonne river in Bordeaux while tasting your favourite wine.
Yash V — Google review
Highly recommended to visit! They share wine knowledge in a fun and interactive way. You can easily spend 2–3 hours there without even noticing the time. A super interesting place if you love wine! We went on a Monday, and it was still fairly busy. Probably best to avoid weekends!
HYE S — Google review
It's a highly informative and beautifully interactive museum. Make sure to try the wine tasting on the top floor—the view is beautiful, but the wines are average. If you have two days or more in Bordeaux, this place is definitely a must-visit.

Whether you are a wine drinker or not. This is by far one of the most interactive museums you could go to. Well priced and super modern. It has Something for everyone. Located in Bordeaux, the Miroir d'eau is a large shallow reflecting pool built in 2006 near Place de la Bourse. Covering an area of 3450 square meters, it is one of the world's largest reflecting pools and offers stunning views of the surrounding architecture. The water's surface acts as a mirror, creating beautiful visual effects and making it a popular spot for photography.
A brilliant idea in combining a modern structure with the old buildings on the other side of the square. When there is no wind, the buildings are reflected in the water. It is very beautiful, as are the blooming gardens along the embankment. A wonderful space for walking!
Olga I — Google review
Fascinating creation right next to the river. You can see a clear reflection of people and buildings, if it is not too windy. They have two different exhibitions, a mist spray followed by about 2cm deep of water coming up from the bottom.
Michael R — Google review
The Miroir d'eau is just a playground with sprinkles. It is right next to the promenade at the river and across the street from the Place de la Bourse, not in front it, as appearing in the touristic brochures. The thin layer of water creates a reflective surface for the sky or Place de la Bourse buildings across the street. Popular water playground with children and to sit around to cool down in the warmer months or as a gorgeous, instagramable setting for pictures during the day or at night.
Gergana — Google review
An interesting location and use of water in a public space. Unfortunately the day we were in Bordeaux it was windy. The evening was calmer and allowed for some good reflections.

Such a great idea, simple that created a beautiful landscape. Reflecting the surrouding, the sky, the activities of people. Big playground for everyone especially kids 🥳

The Water Mirror in Bordeaux is deceptively simple yet magical. Its charm lies in the cyclical transformation it undergoes, the water functions as a perfect mirror, then a gentle fog is released across the surface creating a dream-like ambiance.

When visiting Bordeaux, one of the must-see spots is the Place de la Bourse. This iconic 18th-century city square is surrounded by elegant architecture and features a grand fountain at its center. The Palais de la Bourse, with its Neoclassical-style facade adorned with columns and sculptures, is a notable building to explore.
Kind an artificial pool with bunch of kids running around. Unusual and nice place - at least to see and experience this. When it gets quieter you can make amazing photos with buildings around and this part of flat water pool. Results are amazing
Kamil N — Google review
The 'water mirror' opposite of the bourse buildings is awesome! Such an excellent idea! This artist may get followers and copy cats all over the globe. The water is refreshing, makes the public happy and relaxed, allows kids to enjoy a city visit and provides poor citizens with a place where they can mingle with everyone else in a relaxed way. It also gives enough water for great flowers and the gardens/park pieces next to the water mirror. And, when quiet, the reflection doubles the grandeur of the bourse buildings. Best place of Bordeaux in my opinion.
Christy D — Google review
I visited Place de la Bourse in Bordeaux at night and it was a wonderful experience. The whole area looked magical with the lights reflecting on the beautiful old buildings and the famous water mirror. The fountain and lighting together created a peaceful and charming atmosphere. I spent a few hours just walking around, watching the reflections, and enjoying the calm breeze from the river. The place was lively yet serene — people relaxing, children playing, and tourists taking photos. It’s one of those spots where you can simply sit and take in the beauty of the city. If you are in Bordeaux, an evening visit to Place de la Bourse is a must. It truly captures the heart and elegance of the city.

A lovely zoo, bigger than expected with a wide range of different animals and birds. Animals were all out and the enclosures looked well maintained. A little pricey at 26 euros each but actually well worth it with young kids. I would definitely recommend this as a short day trip out.

Really nice zoo. At first looking at the entrance I wasn't impressed but once inside all was good. You never should judge a book by it's cover. There is a wide collection of animals. Form birds to African elephants, from tigers to rino's. And of course apes. The enclosures where spacious set up. And the walking route was clearly pointed out so you won't miss any of the animals. We took our time and our visit was around 3 - 3.5 hours

A good place to see, how people lived in ancient rural times. I visited it on weekday in September. Unfortunately almost all attration where no presentations. Which was a bit sad. Maybe ask before, when you want to see more lifelike thing. The houses are ooen and luckly the animals where there😏. Also, when you to eat there, come in the morning. In September entrance is closed from 12-13:40 o'clock. So in Afternoon Restaurant is already closed! It is a quiete big area. I spend 4 hours. There is also free guided tour, but in french. Luckly all decriptions are in different languages. This helps a lot. The small train driver -4km- is nice in old shaking waggons. But speed is slow, no worries🚂. The fee was 15€, which is fair for the size of the Ecomuseum.

Just stunning. Hard to believe the size and beauty of it. Very well set up too, good selection of cafes, shade and services before you make the climb. Really well done 👏👏 A must see if the area!

We combined a trip to Bordeaux with this so ended here at the beginning of the evening (at 18:00). We parked not at the formal entrance, but a bit down the road where we had to walk between the bushes and made a steep climb onto the dune. Challenging! But the view is amazing and coming there in the evening gives very nice pictures with the sunset (and it's not so crowded). We swam for a short while and went back before it got dark. The way down is much faster ;-)

Rising over 100 m above the Bassin d’Arcachon, Europe’s tallest sand dune and natural colossus draws nearly two million visitors each year. Families climb its soft flank for sweeping views across forest and ocean, while removable staircases and marked paths channel footfall to reduce erosion. At peak times, up to 17,000 people ascend daily, and archaeologists descend to preserve prehistoric revelations. Recognised as a Grand Site National since 1978, it is both geological wonder and leisure magnet, shaped by four millennia of wind and time.

An unforgettable natural wonder — the Dune du Pilat near Arcachon is the largest sand dune in Europe and absolutely stunning. It’s easy to access, yet feels like stepping into another world. If you want to see something truly extraordinary just beyond your doorstep, this is the place to go!
Boris B — Google review
Great views of the surrounding countryside. Be ready for a good climb if you want to reach the top though as there are plenty of steps to navigate, make sure you have some comfy footwear. The parking is €7, but that also covers the cost of the visit for as long as you want, so it was very good value for money. The parking areas are also very shaded so your car won’t be an oven when you return from your travels. It was busy when we visited, but as the fine is so large it didn’t feel overcrowded.

We passed by on our route to Bilbao - what a stop, what an impressive piece of landscape. Well organized with a beautiful wooden tourist „village“!!

If in area this is a must see! This is one long 2km dune along the coast. It seems so out of place. The view from the top of the dune overlooking the bay is stunning. There is one set of stairs to assist with your climb.
Brian K — Google review
Do I still need to introduce the majestic Dune of Pilat, the highest dune in Europe, which continues to amaze me years after years with its immensity and breathtaking landscapes ? Dominating the entrance to the Arcachon Bay, it stretches over 500 meters wide, reaches nearly 102 meters high and offers a spectacular panorama. From its summit, the view takes in the Atlantic Ocean, the Landes forest, the Cap-Ferret peninsula, the Banc d'Arguin and the bay. This masterpiece of nature, fragile and in perpetual movement, moves each year from one to five meters towards the forest, grain by grain, testifying to thousands of years of history and the incredible dynamics of the elements. Reaching this exceptional site is now facilitated by modern and well-designed facilities. A new cycle path leads to the site's entrance, and a pedestrian axis designed as a promenade crosses the reception area, inviting you to stroll before undertaking the climb. It can also be reached by bus or even by boat, making the Dune a destination accessible to all. Since summer 2023, the completely renovated reception area offers cultural and restaurant shops open year-round, and a seasonal staircase, installed from April to October, allows you to gently climb the dune from the back while preserving this natural site. Once at the top, the magic happens. At low tide, the sandbanks reveal heavenly hues, particularly the Banc d'Arguin National Nature Reserve, which stretches below. In summer, the Dune of Pilat attracts many visitors ; to fully enjoy the tranquility of the place, it is best to come early in the morning or at the end of the day. The golden hours of sunrise and sunset offer unique moments where the light enhances every detail of the landscape ! In summer, sunset walks are particularly popular for experiencing a moment outside of time. Hikes, storytelling walks, and educational workshops also enrich the visitor experience. Listed nationally and included in the Réseau des Grands Sites de France (Great Sites of France), the Dune of Pilat is exemplarily managed by the Syndicat Mixte de la Grande Dune du Pilat, in partnership with the Conservatoire du Littoral (Coastal Protection Agency). These preservation and development efforts ensure a balance between welcoming the public and protecting the natural environment. The revenue from parking is entirely reinvested in the management of the site : waste collection, naturalist monitoring and free environmental education tools ... This great lady of sand, witness to history and natural forces, continues to fascinate with its movement, its scale and the diversity of the landscapes it dominates. A visit to the Dune of Pilat is the assurance of an unforgettable encounter with an exceptional site, constantly evolving, in the heart of the Arcachon basin ...

Isturitz and Oxocelhaya Caves are a must-visit for those interested in exploring underground sites rich in nature and history. These caves offer a unique experience with stalactites, stalagmites, ancient cave drawings, and other geological wonders. The guided tours provide insight into the rich geologic history and the impressive human presence throughout time. Visitors can also enjoy locally produced snacks after the tour. The surrounding countryside adds to the overall stunning experience of these fascinating caves.
Wonderful place to visit ! It exceeded our expectations by far ! Reasonable price, great guide, a bit off the tourist track so fairly quiet. The caves have a rich geologic history ànd an impressive long history of human presence. After the visit : locally produced snacks available. We stumbled across this place online when researching archeological finds that were on display in the Abbeye d'Arthous (also worth a visit !) and are very happy to have made a small turnaround.

Very interesting. Incredibly old paintings & ancient living space, along with a cave with lots of stalactites & stalagmites. Excellent value. Tour was in French only, but guide answered questions in English & an English printed guide was also given to us - which was good. Helpful museum beforehand to explain it all. 5 minute walk from carpark through the woods. Local roads were fine in a motorhome. Recommended!

WOW!!!! This was truly a beautiful experience!! I was a bit nervous about getting a ticket because all of the reviews I read said that the tour is in French ( it is). But our tour guide was nice and asked us if we had in questions ( in English). That being said, they also have an audio tour in three languages, so that helped keep us informed 😊.

Absolutely mesmerising caves with over 80,000 years of occupation. Our guide Stephanie was excellent and she happily answered all of our questions. The caves are 14C so it’s recommended to wear a fleece or jacket. After reaching the first parking just off the main road, you can continue driving to a second parking about 300m up to save you 10’ walking.

Vue panoramique de la Citadelle de Saint Jean Pied de Port offers stunning panoramic views of the lower city and its surrounding mountains. It is known as the starting point of the French Camino de Santiago and was once the capital of lower Navarre, serving as the last stronghold of the kingdom of Navarra. Visitors can enjoy informative signs while taking in the picturesque scenery and capturing memorable photos. The spot is easily accessible, making it a popular destination for both locals and tourists alike.
It is worth the short hike here from the town centre for the great view!

It's a short walk up a kind of ramp and next to an old school. It's worth coming here for the view and seeing the hills . It's also possible to have a light picnic here, though t is busy with a lot of people taking photos.

It's very formidable. When you look towards the high mountains that you will walk over the next day, you feel deep fear. There is a secluded part up here to make love in the open, which we did before our journey. This is a recommended place for pink pilgrims.

The Biarritz Aquarium, also known as the Musee de la Mer, is housed in a stunning art deco building and offers an exciting day out for visitors. Inside, there are 20 aquariums showcasing diverse marine life from the Bay of Biscay and around the world. The aquarium features sharks, rays, coral-reef fish, and a Caribbean lagoon. Visitors can witness seal feeding times at the underwater viewing platform and observe sharks up close in a dedicated tank.
Visiting the Sea World in Biarritz was an amazing experience! Everything is beautifully arranged and full of fascinating marine life the place truly comes alive. The aquariums are wonderfully designed, making you feel as if you are diving right into the depths of the ocean. I highly recommend visiting in the evening as well, because the sunsets here are absolutely magical and add to the overall atmosphere of the place. A wonderful experience that is definitely worth it!

Fantastic aquarium, bought tickets online to safe the queue.Loved seals being fed ,one wee naughty one 😆. Well worth the money ,really enjoyed it. Perhaps a buggy park somewhere to save congestion when busy might help .
Susan — Google review
Fantastic aquarium- however we didn’t realise there was no parking at the actual a aquarium (because of where it is located) so don’t just put it into google maps without planning a car park first. The a aquarium itself was really well laid out and in two separate buildings. Some amazing fish and the jelly fish were spectacular. And my kids loved seeing the turtles and hammer head sharks. Also take time to appreciate the amazing art work and how it was created. Would throughly recommend.
Ryan C — Google review
Great museum with lots of fun jellyfish, octopus, seals, sharks and turtles as well as fun fish. Well curated, but a bit expensive at 46 eur for two adults and a kid.
Joachim V — Google review
It was a good aquarium with some very pretty jellyfish and seals. The other attractions were quite interesting too. Missing 1 star because they let too many people in at a time, we were crammed in like sardines.
Bradley A — Google review
The aquarium offers a decent variety of marine life, with the large shark tank being a highlight, providing an impressive view. I highly recommend a visit. However, the seal tank had noticeable algae growth, giving us a cloudy view. The seals are fed twice a day, once in the morning and again in the evening, so I recommend timing your visit for one of the feedings to enhance your experience.
Clinton T — Google review
My kid is almost two and he love it! Is not huge is big enough to spend 2 hours on it and is walkable for kids. They have a lot of sharks and spaces to sit and enjoy the fishes. A snack space, seals, turtles and a beautiful view. It was not super full so you can enjoy it with the stroller with not a problem.
Vero C — Google review
The only downside is that they do the seal feeding fully in French. I didn’t understand a single word. But my experience with the place was very positive. Really enjoyed the effort they put into this park. And the ticket price is worth it for sure; even it’s just to see the shark tanks, or hang out with Izar and Charlie.

Nice outcrop from the headland over a cool bridge. Was great the day we visited as it was after a storm so the seas were quite wild and waves crashing along the shore which made it more special. Not much to do there other than stroll out to it and admire the views. As your in Biarritz check it out and walk on from there through the streets to the port and palace beach

Cuevas de Zugarramurdi, also known as Cuevas de Las Brujas or Caves of the Witches, is a karst cave complex with a rich history dating back to the Inquisition. The caves were once believed to be the site of evil activities according to the Inquisition. A short trail through a wooded area leads to these monumental caves, offering diverse plant life and a small waterfall inside.
Beautiful short trail with the monumental cave. Diverse types of plants along the slope. The place is well taken care of. There is a tiny waterfall crossing the cave. You can spot some people walking their dogs. The trail is not too long to spend a little time for exercise after your heavy meal.

Great experience. Beautiful self guided walk around the town and the cave area. Gorgeous river and nature walk as well. It’s pretty steep at a few points and with muddy/rocky steps so not wheelchair accessible/friendly. I recommend getting tickets, but we got ours just a few hours before our visit so no need to get them in advance for off season. There’s a car park in town near a public toilet and a restaurant with a ten ish minute walk to the caves. There’s an accessible car spot right at the gates to the cave area.

Nestled in the Sare Valley, Grottes de Sare is a remarkable limestone massif featuring expansive caves and an intriguing museum dedicated to bats. Visitors can explore the Musee Ethnographique to delve into the rich cultural heritage and ancient history of the Basque region before embarking on a guided tour that ventures 1 km underground for a captivating son-et-lumiere show.
Lovely experience to learn about the historical and archaeological significance of the cave. The guide explained everything well and the multimedia elements added a special touch. If you are lucky, you might see some bats flying around! Remember to take something warm to put on in the cave as the temperature is around 14 degrees throughout the year. Note that you cannot take photos inside the cave.

We got a great private tour in English at the end of the afternoon. Super interesting history and insight into the Basque country and some of its extraordinary culture and language. The caves are nice, but what was really exciting was the bats nest on the ceiling. Very active bats and a bunch of young ones hanging there and flapping their wings in anticipation of food. Never saw so many bats, wild, in one place. Great! There are multiple stories told and histories found. The museum is small and features a bit of all these stories. The souvenir shop is very nice and sells gems, they own a huge amethyst! Buy tickets in advance. Closed on Wednesdays. Absolutely worthwhile. There is a lot of parking place, but not too many for campervans. Public toilet for free. I am so happy that the guide, movie and all surroundings support the importance of Natura 2000! Keep this site clean and natural, as much as possible.

The Beach of La Concha is a bustling, sandy, shell-shaped beach located on the Bay of La Concha in San Sebastian. It is considered one of the most beautiful urban beaches in Europe and among the best in the Basque Country. The elegant modernist promenade stretches for over a kilometer and ends at the Palacio de Mirar, featuring white railings and numerous large lampposts.
Fantastic Beach in Town Centre This is a great beach, it is very wide and shallow at the beginning but you get depth quite fast and you can swim very far out. The beach itself is really nice and has all the necessary amenities. What I also like a lot is that you can go to restaurants, shops etc very easily. Last but not least the view is also amazing!

I loved the size of the beach. Despite the crowds, it never felt overcrowded. If you enjoy proper swimming, you can swim long distances across the width of the beach. There are also several good restaurants within walking distance. Plus, there’s convenient access to public restrooms. I would definitely recommend it.

As far as I can tell it is no less than the most beautiful city beach or bay in Europe. Of course you have to be lucky with the weather, as on hot days it feels like the whole city is digging through the sand. The huge dimensions only become clear on a walk or a drive up one of the two hills (Monte Igueldo or Urgull). It is a little unusual that there is so little catering right on the promenade.

Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Comb of the Wind (Eduardo Chillida, 1976) is a renowned contemporary sculpture made of iron that stands in contrast to the landscape and sea. Located at the end of Ondarreta Beach in San Sebastian, this magnificent work by Eduardo Chillida consists of three rusted steel sculptures positioned on several rocks. The artist intended for these pieces to caress the indomitable Cantabrian wind, reflecting his deep connection to the area where he lived.
We stopped here for a while during a business trip to Bilbao in late 2022. This place is so relaxing. It is so calming to watch and listen to the waves crashing on the rocks. There is a hole where you can feel the sensation of the waves crashing between the rocks. It is so nice to be here even for a moment. We visited during the day and there were almost no people visiting. It was so peaceful at that time. I met a very friendly local. I asked his name at that time, but (sorry) I forgot to remember her name.. If you visit San Sebastian, you need to take some time to enjoy the waves crashing here. It was such an amazing experience. Warm regards from Indonesia, TH

Originally planned to come here for a quick visit and ended up staying a lot longer than intended as it was such a relaxing place to be. It was calming watching and listening to the waves crashing against the rocks here, plus there were some great views across the bay. This would be an ideal place to watch the sun go down on a warm summer's day and if I'm ever in San Sebastian again, I'll be sure to do just that.
