Hiking area
Sights & Landmarks
Lookouts
Passadiços do Paiva Trailhead (Areinho) offers a stunning 5.5-mile wooden walkway along the Paiva River, providing breathtaking views of the valley. The well-maintained 8km trail allows for side-by-side walking and leads to the Arouca 516m suspension bridge, although reservations are necessary due to limited availability. This picturesque route showcases untouched landscapes, crystal-clear river waters, and endangered European species.
Phenomenal views, even during rainy weather! The main drag of the trail - including the suspension bridges - is ticketed requiring purchase online. Well worth the experience. Can make a full day out of the hike and surrounding local cafes. Highly recommended.
John P — Google review
This place is amazing, absolutely spectacular. There is a small restaurant next to the car park. You can find everything you need there. Excellent food and very helpful staff. The trail is steep, long and challenging. Especially if you're doing it in 30°C. Tho well worth it. The bridge has to be booked separately. Otherwise, the trail up to the bridge is free if you want to carry on, it costs 4euros per person. Well worth it tho.
Sheislikea W — Google review
Unique experience, but an absolute must do in the region of Arouca. Totally worth to spend some time in nature. Well signed trail, parking and information on how to buy tickets. The wooden path was 2€ per person, crossing the bridge an extra 12€, but totally worth it.
Afonso G — Google review
This trail was beautiful but absolutely terrifying, if you do not like heights, I do not recommend. The pathway is mostly stairs, hanging off the cliff, high above the river. Not an easy stroll along the river.
Cassandra W — Google review
A must visit place! Get yourself comfy shoes, a bottle of/for water (they have tap water on the top), a swimsuit to swim in the river after the hike, something for picknik and enjoy stunning Portuguese nature. Loved this place soo much!
Sandra Z — Google review
Nice view from any part of the trail. Bridge is very impressive 1 km uphill from the Trailhead. Easy way to start from opposite side, but no parking on that side. You can go 4 km and back 4 km. Or take taxi back to the Trailhead. Or pickup with second car if you have.
Arie O — Google review
Really nice plan. Better go before 8 or 9 am. You gave to buy you entrance 2€ on line before . Bring comfortable shoes, tennis shoes are enough. Amazing views. Very well maintained wooden paths. Bring bath suit. You can take a taxi or a 4x4 jeep for the same price 20€ to go back to the starting point, so you don’t have to go back 9 km again .
Sonia G — Google review
It’s a really nice trail. If you book the suspension bridge you have to be at the bridge at that time because it’s a guided tour. We thought it was a time slot so we couldn’t go on there anymore. There are some nice spots to go for a swim in the river. You might want to bring water shoes because there are some sharp stones. There is a restroom about halfway. You should go there in the morning when there is still some shade (we got there at around 8:30 am).

Libraries
Points of Interest & Landmarks
Livraria Lello, also known as Livraria Lello & Irmao, is more than just a bookstore; it's a historical and architectural gem located in downtown Porto. This lavish establishment opened its doors in 1906 and boasts a stunning combination of Neo-Gothic, Art Deco, and Art Nouveau styles. The exterior features intricate woodwork and a large stained glass window with the bookshop's monogram.
Absolutely magical experience! Visiting Livraria Lello on a private after-hours tour is something entirely worth it!!! You will never see something like it before in your life, for the bookstore’s history and soul comes even more alive when you have the privilege to see it on your own with your family or friends! Make sure to take your time , to absorb each unique detail from this 1906 bookstore beautiful presented this time by Sergio. What surprising & enchanting stories fill up this place and even more when it’s team are so passionate about their work. Congratulations Lello Team for the great work.
Maria N — Google review
Livraria Lello is without a doubt a stunning and historic place. The architecture is impressive and it feels like stepping into a storybook. That said, the experience felt more like visiting a tourist attraction than a library or bookstore. When we went, it was extremely crowded, which made it hard to truly enjoy the space. It was difficult to move around, take in the details, or even browse the books comfortably. The staff seemed a bit tired or impatient, possibly because they deal with large crowds all day. Not rude, but not exactly welcoming either. I paid 10 euros just to enter, which can be used as a credit toward a book. But most of the books were priced around 13 or 14 euros, so you still end up paying extra. Yes, you get a discount, but personally I found the books to be overpriced for what they were. If you're really into architecture or literary history, it might still be worth it. But if you don’t go early, expect it to be packed. Personally, I’m not sure I’d recommend it to someone unless they go first thing in the morning and know what to expect.
Ali M — Google review
There’s no doubt — Livraria Lello is one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world. The moment you step inside, it’s hard not to gasp: the intricate woodwork, the stained glass ceiling, the sweeping red staircase that seems to float in the air — it’s pure architectural poetry. You can absolutely see why people link it to Harry Potter and call it a must-see in Porto. But — and there’s a big “but” — it’s also one of the busiest, most crowded spots in the city. The line outside starts early and grows fast. Unfortunately, the queuing system isn’t well managed — people often skip ahead, and staff struggle to keep order, which can be frustrating, especially if you’ve been waiting patiently. Once inside, the space is stunning but packed wall-to-wall with visitors, making it nearly impossible to take in the details or snap a photo without a crowd in the background. It feels more like a museum moment than a peaceful bookstore visit. That said, the magic is still real. The craftsmanship of the staircase, the warmth of the lighting, and the sheer history of the place make it worth seeing at least once. The attached bookshop sells lovely editions (including Harry Potter books with special covers) and the entrance fee is redeemable toward a purchase — a nice touch. If you go, arrive early, book ahead, and bring patience. It’s undeniably beautiful, even if the experience is far from calm.
Andreas N — Google review
Very much a tourist trap. Timed ticket entry with long queues outside and busy inside once you get in. Paid €10 ticket which you can use against a purchase of a book. Very striking interior which was supposed to of inspired JK Rowling when writing Harry Potter. Would maybe best getting the first entry time ticket of the day to fully enjoy the interior.
David G — Google review
A bit smaller than I thought, but the place is astonishing. It feels surreal to think about the history that this place has once your inside. The quantities of books in different languages it’s impressive, and the people working in there is very kind and helpful. We went in late on a Monday, so it was not too crowded, but I’ve heard it gets pretty busy and can get out of control with the amount of people because the place is small. My recommendation is plan to go on a less busy time (use Google maps as a guide) and buy your ticket in advance, then enjoy the experience. If you buy a book, the entry ticket gets deducted from the price which is great!
Manuel G — Google review
The wait is long, the inside is crowded but beautiful. A small bucket list item for us and it was worth the wait. Make sure to buy tickets online and if you want to skip the wait and plan to buy a book buy a gold ticket! Books are available in multiple languages so no need to worry about not being able to read!
Adam T — Google review
I was SO disappointed. :( You have to pay for a ticket to get in, and that money can be applied to a book if you want to purchase one. The problem is that the selection of books is so sad. Maybe if they stocked books that people would actually want to read then they would have more sales. I’m not usually this negative about stuff, but this was the worst tourist trap I’ve ever experienced. Obviously the staircase was beautiful, but this small and crowded store was a ripoff.
Tara G — Google review
The Lello Bookstore is housed in an outstandingly beautiful building in Porto. It feels as if a magical realism novel has come to life and transformed into architecture. The staircase and ceiling are absolutely incredible — true works of art. As a bookstore, however, the selection is quite limited, with only about 5 to 10 book titles available in different languages. Still, it’s definitely worth the visit for the atmosphere alone. Make sure to buy your ticket in advance — it’s a must!

Clérigos Church

Catholic church
Sights & Landmarks
Clérigos Church, a Baroque church in Porto, is renowned for its marble altarpiece and a 75-meter bell tower that has become an iconic symbol of the city. The Torre dos Clérigos, constructed in 1750 by the well-known Tuscan architect Nicolau Nasoni, stands as the tallest building in Porto's historic center. Visitors can climb 240 spiral steps to reach the top of the tower and enjoy panoramic views of the city.
great views from the top of the tower although it is a bit of a climb up narrow and steep stairs as with all olden architecture. i regret i didn't return at night to see the laser show (legs too tired by all the climbing haha). there are exhibitions of ecclesiastical art and the history of the tower inside.
M — Google review
The Igreja dos Clérigos is a beautiful church located in the heart of Porto. It features a stunning collection of sacred art in the Baroque style, and every detail — from the magnificent organ to the richly decorated main altar — is truly impressive. If you’re in good shape, don’t miss the climb up the Torre dos Clérigos; the panoramic view of the city from the top is absolutely worth it. I highly recommend visiting this iconic landmark!
Murillo P — Google review
We visited the Clérigos Church in Porto and chose the full experience, including the light and sound show — and it was absolutely worth it. The church itself is stunning, with beautiful architecture and a peaceful atmosphere that makes you pause and look around. The light and sound show added a special touch, bringing the history and details of the church to life in a memorable way. It made the visit feel even more meaningful and immersive. Overall, a truly beautiful place and definitely worth visiting if you’re in Porto.
Andre B — Google review
Very beautiful church! People mostly come here for the tower or taking a picture in front of the main gate. Yet, the church inside is very beautiful, so I would strongly recommend to visit the church as well! It is easy to walk from the city center.
Ekin — Google review
The Igreja dos Clérigos (Church of the Clergymen) is particularly striking for its 75.6-meter bell tower, visible from afar in central Porto. This Baroque church of the Brotherhood of the Clergymen was built between 1732 and 1750 to a design by the Italian architect Nicolau Nasoni. Construction of the Torre de Clérigos did not begin until 1754 and, like the monumental double staircase at the front, was completed in 1763. The Clérigos was one of the first churches in Portugal to adopt the oval floor plan common in the Baroque style. Since 2015, the church and tower have been open to visitors in the evenings.
Koen — Google review
Amazing Church. Our Lady of Sorrows, St John the Evangelist, St Andrew Avellino, Ste Anne Virgin Mary and Child Jesus all representations are wonderful. Our visit was coupled with melancolic music coming from outside... so touching moment highly recommended. Visiting the church is free. Small queue at the entrance.
A A — Google review
The Clérigos Church and Tower is a landmark in Porto. I recommend booking in advance as it can get very busy. After the Luis The I Bridge, the Clérigos church and tower are the most visited objectives in Porto. Narrow steps lead to the top of the tower. Once there, you can enjoy a 360-degree view of Porto.
Cristea A — Google review
Visiting the tower is a great experience. You walk through the church facilities and rooms which display history and info about the building. Then walk up the narrow stairs in the tower. The view at the top probably offers the best views of Porto.

Porto Cathedral

Mentioned on
+136 other lists
Cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
Perched atop Pena Ventosa, Porto Cathedral is a remarkable hilltop Romanesque structure with a fortress-like interior and Gothic cloisters. This historic site, part of Porto's UNESCO World Heritage-listed old town, showcases a blend of architectural styles including Romanesque, Gothic, and Baroque. Constructed over several centuries starting in the 12th century, it features an impressive altarpiece made entirely of silver and stunning Portuguese azulejos tiles adorning its cloisters.
The Catedral do Porto is truly a remarkable landmark and well worth a visit. The exterior alone is striking, with its historic architecture standing proudly at the heart of the city, but stepping inside reveals even more beauty. The interior is impressive — clean, well maintained, and full of intricate details that highlight its centuries of history and significance. It’s the kind of place where you can pause, admire the craftsmanship, and feel the weight of the past all around you. One of the best aspects is the accessibility of the visit. The entrance fee is very reasonable at just €3 for adults, which feels like excellent value considering what you get in return. The highlight for me was climbing the tower. From the top, you’re rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view over Porto, offering a unique perspective of the city’s rooftops, the Douro River, and beyond. It’s a perfect spot for photographs and for simply taking in the scenery. Overall, the Catedral do Porto offers both historical charm and unforgettable views at a very fair price. It’s a must-see for anyone visiting the city, whether you’re interested in history, architecture, or just want to enjoy one of the best viewpoints Porto has to offer.
Cédrik B — Google review
The cathedral in Porto feels like stepping into another time. It’s one of the main landmarks, on the hill, and you can feel the city’s history all around you. Inside, it’s calm and simple, untouched by time. The view from in front of the cathedral is one of the best in Porto. You can actually see the cathedral from almost anywhere, even from the other side of the city. Entry costs 3 euros. Best to go early before the crowd.
A A — Google review
A beautiful and historic cathedral with an amazing view over the city and the Douro River. The interior is impressive, with a mix of Romanesque and Gothic styles. The cloisters are stunning and definitely worth the small entry fee. It’s one of the best places to start exploring Porto’s old town.
Marta A — Google review
The Sé do Porto is a stunning cathedral in the heart of Porto. Its main altar features an impressive Baroque style, and the interior is beautifully decorated with traditional azulejos (ceramic tiles). The cloister, though rather minimalist, has a quiet elegance and charm. From the top of the cathedral, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the entire city of Porto.
Murillo P — Google review
the most impressive religious building in Porto - no small feat as there are churches with blue tilework on what seems like every corner. also a spot for pilgrims on the Carmino. the religious artwork is exquisite. a climb to the roof will give a great view of the city.
M — Google review
Standing proudly on one of Porto’s highest hills, the Sé do Porto (Porto Cathedral) is a masterpiece of stone and soul — a place where faith, history, and imagination intertwine. Built between the 12th and 18th centuries, it blends Romanesque strength, Gothic arches, and Baroque elegance into one timeless structure. From its terrace, the sweeping views of the Ribeira district, the Douro River, and the Dom Luís I Bridge capture the city’s essence — ancient, dramatic, and endlessly photogenic. Inside, the blue-and-white azulejos and quiet cloisters whisper stories of devotion. But beyond its sacred beauty, there’s a touch of literary magic too. Locals often say Porto feels like Harry Potter, because it was part of J.K. Rowling’s world when she was writing it. During her years living in Porto, the city’s cobbled streets, cloisters, and gothic towers — including the Cathedral — likely helped shape the imagination behind Hogwarts’ enchanting world.
Andreas N — Google review
When you visit downtown, you will not miss it. Well situation on highest place as dominant, with fantastic view to city’s surroundings. After you are done, you can walk on steep stairs down to Ribeira and see it from bottom. Nice view is offered to see cathedral from other side of bridge
Soko ( — Google review
I didn’t expect to like visiting this complex as much as I did, it was great! Out of all the religious buildings in Porto, I’d say this one is definitely worth a visit. The cloisters are pretty and you can walk up the tower. The cathedral is small but impressive.

Luís I Bridge

Bridge
Sights & Landmarks
The Luís I Bridge is a prominent arched bridge that spans the Douro River, connecting Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia. It features two levels, with the upper level accommodating trams and pedestrians, while the lower level is open to various vehicles. Designed by architect Teophile Seyrig, a partner of Gustave Eiffel, this metal arch bridge was completed in 1886.
Absolutely beautiful bridge both being on it and looking at it from below. It is awesome during the day and amazing at night. You can get fantastic views while walking across the top portion of the bridge leading you to and from Gaia. It’s hard to to come see this bridge because it is a pedestrian and train commuter highway!
Ben — Google review
This bridge is spectular!! We walked on the lower portion of the bridge to cross over and there were many people. There were teenagers jumping off of the bridge into the water! It was fun and a little wild. Many people and a fair amount of traffic. We walked on the upper portion of the bridge to get back over and it was extremely picturesque. Even with the sun beaming down, the wind was refreshing and it was lovely. Great spot to take photos. The train runs along here but did not seem to affect our experience. I would 100% recommend walking on the upper portion, but the lower portion was fun too! (Also there is a winery when you cross over that we would have missed if we didn’t walk over on the bottom.)
Rhilee E — Google review
There are many beautiful pictures of the bridge, if you're interested in the architectural structure. My personal pics are not taken from the bridge but from a lovely bar on the river with the bridge to the left of me. Well... I deserved the drink having walked through Porto to get there!
Jaci H — Google review
Amazing view regardless of weather. But just be ready to walk in the crowd. Always busy with tourists and street vendors. Also be careful when train passes by. If you want to get a good picture while on the bridge, look for asian guys with big dslr camera taking pictures of their gf or wife. They’re super skilled and professional photographers😆
Min H — Google review
Ingenious, elegant, photogenic. These are just a few descriptions of Porto's most famous landmark: the (Dom) Luis I Bridge. In 1879, the Portuguese government launched a competition for the construction of a bridge to replace the 1842 Ponte Pênsil. Due to the economic boom, this bridge, officially called the Ponte D. Maria II, could no longer handle the increased traffic. Of the nine proposals submitted, the design by Belgian engineer Théophile Seyrig, one of two by the Société Anonyme de Construction et des Ateliers de Willebroeck, was selected. (A common misconception about the Dom Luis I Bridge is that it was designed by Gustave Eiffel. This is understandable, as Théophile Seyrig, the bridge's designer, co-founded Eiffel et Cie with Gustave Eiffel in 1868.) Construction began on November 21, 1881, and King Luís I of Portugal opened the bridge named after him on October 31, 1886. Exactly two years later, the Lower Bridge was also opened. The Upper Bridge is 395 meters long and 45 meters high, while the Lower Bridge is 172 meters long and 10 meters high. Until January 1, 1944, a toll was charged for using the bridge. While the Lower Bridge has been used by (motorized) traffic since its opening, the Upper Bridge has been closed to motorized traffic since 2003, and since 2005, only light rail trains of the Porto Metro have run across it (and, of course, the many, many pedestrians who come to admire the bridge). No visitor or resident of Porto can or would want to miss this magnificent feat of civil engineering!
Koen — Google review
Lovely bridge in particular for first time visitors to Porto as you get nice views of the water and areas on both side of the river. Make sure to walk over the bridge both on lower level and upper level as well as both day and night. You get nice and different views in each scenario.

An iconic structure offering panoramic views of Porto. Well-maintained and easily accessible by metro. Perfect for sightseeing and photography. Definitely one of the city’s highlights.

Visitors can enjoy wine sipping, people watching, and dining in cozy tascas and quaint restaurants while lounging on pavement chairs. The area is alive with street musicians, vendors selling roasted chestnuts, and traditional barcos rabelos bobbing along the water's edge.
Nice views on the bridges and on the other side. Can't imagine how busy it gets in the summer months. Restaurants, stall, all can be found here along with the cruises.

Very nice placento walk and colorful in summer. A lot of restaurants

Really nice street, with amazing views of the river, the Luis I bridge, restaurants, and the boats. If you're in Porto, you must walk down here!
Arjan V — Google review
Absolutely stunning views across the river on both sides of the banks. There is plenty of life and great hustle bustle with several restaurants and live music people singing and plying guitar. There’s wide choice of restaurants and cafes on the bank and the river trips staring points as well.

Excellent walking on riverside, very touristy area and prices are higher. You pay for views of river, bridge and monastery on other side normally you go downstairs from Porto cathedral on steep stairs and refresh here. Huge choices for coffee, drink or eating out
Soko ( — Google review
Good vibes loads of restaurants and bars with the odd decent busker pity the sun wasn’t out
Ian A — Google review
Truly a stunning place!! One of my favorite spots in Porto. You can easily walk down from the center and enjoy the river view. There are many coffee shops, bars, and restaurants nearby.
Ekin — Google review
A lively promenade where you can watch people strolling from a terrace while enjoying food and drinks. A promenade perfect for a leisurely stroll and enjoying the view of the Douro River, the rabelos (the traditional boats used to transport barrels of port wine), and the port houses on the other side. These days, it's a promenade claimed primarily by tourists.

If you're exploring Vila Nova de Gaia, a ride on the Douro River Ferry is an absolute must, especially when the sun is shining. This charming ferry offers a delightful and budget-friendly way to cross between Porto and Gaia while soaking in stunning views of the iconic bridges that span the river. Whether you opt for a brief journey or combine it with a vineyard tour, you'll be treated to breathtaking sights of famous landmarks like Port Wine Cellars and picturesque beaches such as Foz do Douro.
A very quick and affordable trip across the river from Porto to Gaia. The boatmen are friendly and kind. The kids enjoyed the quick trip.

📍 Location: The ferry offers a scenic crossing between Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia, providing a unique perspective of the city's waterfront. Power Traveller +1 Mike's Travel Guide +1 ⛵ Experience: A pleasant and brief journey that allows passengers to appreciate the beauty of the Douro River and the iconic bridges that connect the two cities. 🏛️ Historical Insight: While the ride is enjoyable, it lacks informative commentary about the rich history of Porto and its landmarks, which could enhance the overall experience. 📸 Views: The ferry provides excellent photo opportunities of the city's architecture and riverside scenes, making it a worthwhile activity for visitors. 💡 Suggestion: Incorporating more interactive elements or guided information about the city's history and the significance of the bridges would greatly enrich the experience. 🌟 Overall: A delightful way to see Porto from the river, though adding historical context would make it even more memorable.

The Palácio da Bolsa, also known as the Stock Exchange Palace, is a grand 19th-century building in Porto that celebrates the city's prosperous merchants. This neoclassical landmark was once the headquarters of the Porto Trade Association and later housed the Portuguese stock exchange.
Such a wonderful place to visit in Porto. It’s so beautiful, every part of this palace is so magical. And of course the gold room is my favorite it’s magnificent. The lady who works there as a tour guide is so nice and also she’s so funny. She explained to us everything with a funny story and the people laughed and everybody had a good time. The other things I liked about it was the carpet, they had so many Persian carpets in different rooms and they were so colorful and pretty. I loved this place, so if you are in Porto you have to visit the palace. You will love it.
Sevda A — Google review
💯% worth it! If you’re questioning ‘is it worth it?’, it most definitely is! It’s a 30 minute guided tour - you’ll come to understand why, but it’s absolutely phenomenal! Thank you for the experience. I would recommend booking tickets early. The great thing the Palácio do is conduct the tours in various languages, therefore slots get booked up pretty quick, so my advice would be to book early/prior. The tour guide was very knowledgeable, saying he had only been there 3 weeks. An excellent guide. Thank you 💫
Trehan — Google review
Beautiful palace showcasing many different elements of Portuguese history of law and commerce. Tickets were reasonable and the tour was fairly informative but not overly long. Be sure to check for the appropriate time slots when visiting.
Colton B — Google review
An amazing building steeped in history that is still being used today! Tight, but informative 30 minute guided tour was worth it and I would recommend you buy the tickets ahead of time. Make sure to take lots of pictures and absorb all you can. My personal favourite was the Arabian room, simply for its grandeur and craftsmanship. I highly recommend it if YOURE in Porto!
Scott L — Google review
Stunning range of architecture and design across a series of rooms. The Arab inspired room was particularly beautiful. Note though that it is a whistle stop tour with not much time to linger. The tour guide was enthusiastic and knowledgeable, but time constraints probably meant we missed out on some of the background. Still worth the visit though.
Gareth E — Google review
beautiful palace constructed across the reign of the last king and the beginning of the republic, never a royal residence but looks fit to be one. the tour was amazing and loved the guide -- a bit pricier than other attractions but that's being a tourist for you. buy tickets in advance and you might get some discount.
M — Google review
Great! We arrived at 09:05 on a Sunday without having bought an online ticket (wasn’t available the night before). There was no queue and we could immediately buy a ticket for the 30-minute guided tour for the slot at 09:15. Our guide was great, very enthusiastic and clear. What a beautiful place this palace is, with a rich history. Only downside would be that the 30 minutes felt a bit too rushed. We wanted to listen to the guide but also look around a bit (there were some rooms that weren’t explicitly shown by the guide, but that you could enter if you wanted) Doing both at the same time wasn’t always possible. 5-10 minutes extra would be great… but I do understand that they’ve put a time limit on the tours. Our group consisted of about 20-25 people and that was perfect to still enjoy all the different spaces, listen and see the details. You would not want the space to be packed with people just hanging around. I would highly recommend to visit this beautiful place. The pictures speak for itself :)
Lauren — Google review
We took the 30 minute tour in English of this palace and it was very interesting and informative, but maybe didn’t do justice to the interesting history of this landmark. The architecture is pretty amazing and the famous blue room was spectacular to see. Our guide was very friendly and gave a good presentation, but the tour seemed a bit hurried. Spending more time here would be great. I would definitely recommend seeing this unique palace while you’re visiting Porto.

The historical baths date back to Roman times and have been frequented by emperors seeking treatment.

Lovely visit to the Thermal Spa. Make sure you book in advance by calling or popping in as they get busy especially on a weekend. We opted for the Aqva Circuito Termal with a deep and relaxing massage. In total it cost €75 per person. We got an hour in the thermal pool with jets, sauna and steam room. The massage was relaxing and the staff were lovely and spoke good English. The place wasn’t crowded we went on a Friday Afternoon there was one other couple in there. Skin felt really soft after. The town was nice to walk around and the walk along the river is lovely. Recommend a visit.

The Castle of Santa Maria da Feira is a historic stone fortress dating back to the 9th century, featuring unique towers and sweeping views from its walls and battlements. Situated on a hilltop, it offers a glimpse into the city's iconic landmarks and biodiversity-rich areas like Quinta do Castelo and Mata das Guimbras. The castle is well-maintained with easy access and parking available. Visitors can explore the castle's interior, including its towers, while enjoying panoramic views.

Visited the Castle of Santa Maria da Feira today and, although it was closed (as it is every Monday), the peaceful grounds offered a perfect opportunity for quiet photography. The castle’s impressive medieval architecture and well-preserved walls make it a striking landmark, even from the outside. Its dramatic towers and unique defensive features stand as a testament to centuries of Portuguese history, dating back to the 11th century. While I couldn’t explore the interior this time, the tranquil surroundings and panoramic views from the exterior are well worth a visit, especially if you enjoy capturing historic sites without the crowds. I recommend checking opening hours before your visit, as the castle is closed on Mondays and has specific hours on weekends. Looking forward to returning when it’s open to explore inside!

A truly amazing castle. With this castle dating back to the 10th century, it has incredible history. And for three euros per adult we felt it was a great value to visit.

Good views to have a quick walk around the castle first of all. most staff were a bit miserable unfriendly especially the man in the picture who wasn’t very understanding and we arrived half hour which wasn’t late before closing time and he was stubborn not letting us in for a short time so it waste of a journey as we travelled a long way

I paid 5€ for the Medieval fair and it would be needed 5€ more to enter the castle, so I didn't pay again for it. It is quite majestic and well kept, but I honestly think the ticket for the fair should include a short tour of the Castle.

The 'Viagem Medieval em Terras de Sta. Maria' is an annual medieval-themed event held in Santa Maria da Feira, Portugal. This festival is one of the largest historical reenactment festivals in Europe and takes place during the summer months. The city itself is known for its rich cultural heritage and hosts this fascinating festival that offers a unique experience for visitors.
Great experience to participate, everything is well organized and adjusted to give out the medieval spirit, there is no mess, everything is streamlined. The food and attractions are varied and exciting. There are parking spots at the premises that charge a small fee for the whole day. It can get very crowded so it is better to arrive early and if you are coming for one day, I'd go with a weekday and not weekend.

Cute little festival with lots to do. A bit hot through the day but much quieter and really gets busy at night. Worth dressing up for if you can and the fact that every cup is authentic and all the signage is really special

Viagem Medieval in Santa Maria da Feira is a fantastic experience for those who love history and medieval culture. The festival brings the past to life with impressive reenactments, costumes, food, and music. It’s a great opportunity to immerse yourself in the medieval atmosphere. However, the event tends to be very crowded, making it difficult to fully enjoy some of the activities. The long lines and large number of people can be overwhelming at times. It’s also important to note that this event takes place in the summer, and the heat can make it uncomfortable for some visitors. I think limiting the attendance or spreading the event across more days could make it more comfortable. Still, the event is beautiful and offers a lot of fun, especially for families.

Santa Maria da Feira is a historic city in Portugal known for its rich cultural heritage and festivals. One of the lesser-known but fascinating festivals in Santa Maria da Feira is the "Viagem Medieval em Terra de Santa Maria" or the "Medieval Journey in the Land of Santa Maria de Feira . The Viagem Medieval is a medieval-themed event that takes place annually in Santa Maria da Feira during the summer. It's one of the largest historical reenactment festivals in Europe. The city transforms into a medieval town, recreating the atmosphere, costumes, and lifestyle of the Middle Ages. Visitors to the festival are transported back in time to the medieval period, with streets and squares filled with knights, troubadours, artisans, and performers, all dressed in authentic medieval clothing. The festival aims to provide an immersive experience that gives participants a glimpse into the past. Throughout the city, elaborate scenarios are set up to recreate different aspects of medieval life, including markets, workshops, battles, and court scenes. Visitors can explore these scenarios, interact with characters, and witness various reenactments. The festival offers a wide range of entertainment and activities for visitors of all ages. There are jousting tournaments, medieval music and dance performances, storytelling sessions, theater plays, and more. Traditional crafts and skills are also showcased, allowing attendees to learn about medieval craftsmanship. Food is an essential part of the Viagem Medieval experience. Traditional medieval dishes and beverages are served at various stalls and eateries. It's a chance for visitors to indulge in authentic flavors from the past. The festival is not just about entertainment; it also has educational value. Schools often organize trips to the festival, giving students the opportunity to learn about history in an engaging and interactive way. The Viagem Medieval em Terra de Santa Maria is an enchanting and lesser-known festival that offers a unique blend of history, entertainment, and cultural immersion. It allows attendees to step into the shoes of medieval inhabitants and experience life as it was centuries ago

It was the second time I visited, and there was still a lot of new things to see since they always have a temporary exhibition. I would suggest everyone take the combined ticket for €13 to also visit the experience center, which includes their workshop. If you go with people who aren’t that much into cars, they have an entire floor dedicated to ancient art. Lastly, they have a souvenir shop with many unique pieces.

The exhibition is not made just by cars. They have other things like toys, paintings, and sculptures. For me, It's not really worth the travel if you're just going there, so pick a nice restaurant and look for other things you might wanna see. The road from Porto to Caramulo is very pretty.

Nice museum with interesting stuff to see. Top floor is a gallery. The main floor in the main building has an interesting display of ww2 cars, wagons and artillery, stamps, flags etc... In this floor you can also see old fashion toys displayed in a different room. The second building has old fashion cars from 1880 to 1940. The ticket will allow to you to visit another building displaying more ww2 vehicles. In here you also have a virtual reality experience.

Aveiro station

Architectural Buildings
Aveiro Station, also known as Estacao Ferroviaria de Aveiro, is a modern central train station located near the city center. It operates daily with various timetables for Alfa Pendular, Intercity, Regional, Suburban, and Vouga Regional trains. The new design of the station stands in contrast to the old azulejo-decorated building nearby. There are plans to convert the classic structure into a museum or regional information office.
The original station was opened in 1864 with the inauguration of the Linha do Norte (North Line). In 1916, the building underwent a major renovation, during which 59 azulejo panels were added to the façade. The tiles were designed by Licínio Pinto and Francisco Pereira and produced by the Fábrica da Fonte Nova. The tile panels follow a dual theme: those on the platform side introduce travel destinations, while those facing the city depict scenes of everyday life in Aveiro. Due to growing rail demand in the late 20th century, a new contemporary station building was added, while the old station has been preserved for its cultural and historical significance. Today, the station is served by Alfa Pendular, Intercidades, Regionais, and Porto Urban Trains, making it a key hub in Portugal’s rail network.
Seokjin H — Google review
Current station is new and so so, but there's a smaller building nearby painted with beautiful azulejo tiles depicting scenes from Aveiro, including the boats and the salt.
Chin H — Google review
This station is a gem and beautifully preserved. The classic tiles and very clean, fresh paint make this a very attractive sight. The train operations were very good, the directions to the trains easy to follow even if you do not speak Portuguese. It made my visit from Porto easy and pleasant.

The station is quite far from the city center. I walked from University of Aveiro to the station around 45 minutes. I did not see much sign to go to the station. I opened google maps to make sure that I am in a correct direction. The station is quite big and clean. You can find information from the worker. The schedule is easy to find for your trip. They provide hand sanitizer for the customers. Do not for get to wear your mask before entering the station.

I enjoyed my day trip stopping by different towns on the way from Portugal to Madrid. We stopped in Aveiro, where we took pictures, ate, and enjoyed the history.

Took a trip to Aviero, which is dubbed the “Venice of Portugal”. It’s home of Portugal’s first open air mall; one of the first in Europe… Forum Aveiro

Aveiro, often called the “Venice of Portugal,” truly lives up to its name. One of the best ways to enjoy the town is through a moliceiro boat ride — colorful, calm, and full of charm. The tour takes about 45 minutes, gliding through canals with a multilingual guide sharing local history and architecture. The boats themselves are artistic and photogenic, and the ride is smooth and family-friendly. Highly recommended for those wanting a unique and relaxing view of the town.

Aveiro is called the Venice of Portugal where the Ria de Aveiro runs thru the middle of the city. It runs from the Atlantic ocean where there are salt fields . A canal off the river is a fishing village. Definitely take one of the gondolas to see the city and the river.

The Aveiro Lagoon (Ria de Aveiro) is an exceptionally unique natural feature that fundamentally defines the city of Aveiro, earning it the moniker "the Venice of Portugal." Its most distinctive characteristic is its complex network of interconnected canals, lagoons, and islands formed by the confluence of river deltas and the sea. This intricate aquatic landscape is home to a rich ecosystem and provides the picturesque setting for the city. Unique to the lagoon are the colourful moliceiros, traditional wooden boats with distinctive painted prows. These highly decorated boats, once used to harvest moliço (seaweed for fertiliser), now primarily offer scenic tours, providing an iconic visual associated only with Aveiro. The lagoon's constant interaction with the Atlantic Ocean, its role in the region's salt production, and its rich biodiversity, including various bird species, all contribute to making the Ria de Aveiro a singular and vital natural and cultural landscape.

You must come see this amazing private collection of art from around the world. We thought we were coming for a museum about wine and boy were we pleasantly surprised by what we found. Not only were there incredible caves filled with wine but also 150 million years+ old fossils and more. You do not want to miss this fantastic museum and wine tasting.
Portia W — Google review
A Great exhibition with a lot of fascinating paleontologic wonders and world’s treasures, it was all well explained by our tour guide and at the end we tasted some of the wines from local baga grapes and sangrias:) It’s worth seeing for sure. We would love to hear more about minerals and the African part of the exhibition, it was too short to take a look of every fine bit of it. Wonderful experience, thank you!

What a hidden gem. The tour was very interesting for the whole family including 8 years old , the size of the museum is enormous and unexpected , collection is great and precious and entrance ticket is only 6 euro including easing and free for children. Definitely recommend

We didn't know that they only do guided tours at certain times.. But luckily we managed to get really nice guided tour just for the two of us with really nice and friendly guide... That was worth of 1.5 h of waiting.. Especially that we got nice lunch recommendations to spend the time.
Ingrid V — Google review
I don’t get it how this place has 4,6 stars. It’s probably the worst “museum” I’ve ever been to, in any sense. It’s not actually even a museum but just a collection of stuff this super rich Portuguese guy bought (if he really bought all of that), many random things like photos of Gandhi, African art and Portuguese azulejos, all just put there without any sense. Additionally to the ethically highly problematic questions on why he owns all that, for example 1500 years old African urns which definitely belong in a proper archaeological museum, the things are just put somewhere without any explanation. There are no plates or tags explaining the objects or even just saying what they are, they don’t even have numbers, and they are all just “from Africa”, no context information at all about from which country and which time period. But the actually worst thing was the guide. Talking and behaving like you would imagine a trump-propagandist, he was all the time praising his lord Joao Berardo for how great he was in putting this stuff together and that their wine was the best in Portugal and that all the other wine companies were just crap. Especially, presenting to us the objects in the most superficial way that I ever witnessed from a museum guide (even when answering to questions). Like we were 5 year old kids. So: ethically very problematic, absolutely no musealization concept and presented in a really disgusting way. The wine was ok.
David E — Google review
A great spot to see some cool artifacts from around the world, and taste some great snacks and sparkling wines after the tour finishes. Goncalo Costa was an excellent tour guide, he spoke fluent English and cares about history and sharing it with others. If life allows the opportunity, would love to visit again!

Bussaco Palace Hotel

Mentioned on

Hotel
Palace Hotel Bussaco is a lavish former palace with stately rooms and suites, featuring a banquet hall and a bar with a fireplace. It offers an exceptional staff and service, along with thematic decor that reflects its rich history. The hotel's location in the Bussaco National Forest provides guests with the opportunity to immerse themselves in nature, offering stunning views and peaceful hiking trails. While some guests found the food slightly expensive, they praised the attentive staff and romantic atmosphere.
Stopped here for lunch on a drive through Portugal and wow! This place is beautiful, so many incredible facades across this building. The surrounding forest is also incredible and the food was fantastic at the restaurant. Can't fault it. The scale of the place was appreciated until we had arrived either.
Jack I — Google review
The hotel is very impressive from outside and the location is amazing. But it's not a 5 star hotel, maybe 3 stars The furniture in the rooms is very old, the rooms are small and no air conditioner and no mini bar. Restorarant is very good and food is delicious.
Anatoly G — Google review
Probably the most beautiful hotel you will ever stay in. Make sure to get early enough so you can dedicate 30 min or more to walk around the palace and gardens. Also be prepared to eat in the hotel's restaurant, (there is no immediate other choice) , which is actully good, but expensive. (60 €pp with 3 courses plus a glass of wine). Our only complaint is that the bed, though comfortable, was not big enough. But the experience as a whole is great.
רם ז — Google review
Have to pay €7 just to get onto the grounds. No doubt it is beautiful. They wouldn't let us in to get something to eat at the restaurant because there was a wedding scheduled. Why do they not tell you before you spent €7 getting on to the grounds? The gardens are not nearly as magnificent as they look in the pictures. There is a lot of dead shrubs. We are all very disappointed in this excursion.
Voda V — Google review
Our visit to the forest and hotel were absolutely wonderful. The property and architecture are spectacular. The main restaurant, however, was a little lacking in service. The empregada de mesa didn’t seem to remember who ordered what, and didn’t stop by to check on us mid-meal (which would have been great as we were out of drink!). I only mention this to help set restaurant expectations. Otherwise, it was 5-stars across the board.
John F — Google review
The hotel is beautiful situated in a national forest with many trails to hike. I felt that the room was a good price but dining was expensive. The rooms do not have wifi, it's only available in the bar and lobby. The TV in the room is a Smart TV but there's no wifi so no apps. Your choices if you want to watch TV is one of the 9 Portuguese channels. There is no music playing in the bar/ lounge which would have been nice. The hotel furnishings are lovely and represent the period of when the palace was built.
K C — Google review
a wonderful fairytale place where they have preserved the historical appearance. wonderful staff, good restaurant, nice old barman and a wonderful atmosphere. we had great luck to visit the royal wine cellar. thank you very much, we will definitely come back
Furazh S — Google review
A very unique experience. We loved our stay. Is it a luxury hotel? No, it’s not. But the price is also much more affordable than if it was a true 5-star. The atmosphere is unforgettable. We loved the architecture, the decor, the people and the gardens around. We didn’t have dinner, but enjoyed a bottle of 2001 Bucaco white at the bar. The breakfast was absolutely great. We hope to come back.

Buçaco National Forest is a 105-hectare old, walled arboretum with over 250 tree and shrub species. Situated near Palacio do Bucaco, the forest features chapels, fountains, ponds, and exotic trees. Well-marked trails lead to attractions like Vale dos Fetos (Valley of the Ferns) and Fonte Fria. The Via Sacra trail passes by chapels on its way to Cruz Alta, offering stunning views.
This was a magical spot on our whirlwind through Portugal. The hiking is so lush and fern filled, the camellia trees were incredible. We spent 3 hours here, but could have spent 8. Absolutely beautiful walking paths. I was shocked by the California Redwoods, not where I expected to see them!
Kailey P — Google review
Fantastic place! Reminds me a fairytale, full of hidden paths, moss covered trees and Bible stories. Also there are huge eucalyptus trees there, 160 years old araucaria and even sequoias. It was a pity though that we were not all of to see the hotel lobby - it has magnificent interior

It feels like you are back in the time of colonoscopy. Like you, somewhere in Bolivia, and those haciendas for the trade of narco barons. Honestly, time stopped there. Talking about the hotel. The forest is impressive and a long walk.

Fantastic hike, we parked outside the park then hiked in. You can also park inside and make a shorter walk. Path’s were clear and very wide.

One of the most scenic and reinvigorating areas in central Portugal. Gorgeous forest, with a few patches of native species. It’s like entering a magic land, with fresh clean air and a lush green canopy. We spent one day with small children and it was way too little. I’ll certainly come back to explore and hike, and potentially spend some volunteering working hours at one of their many environmental actions.

Convento de Santa Cruz do Buçaco, located in Portugal, is a historic monastery dating back to 1628. Situated within the lush Mata Nacional do Buçaco forest, it offers a serene and peaceful atmosphere. The monastery features an interesting museum with a variety of exhibits including old paintings and hand-painted tiles. Visitors can explore the church and climb spiral stairs to view brass bells from the 1850s. The surrounding area boasts rare natural beauty and provides opportunities for hiking.
The Convento de Santa Cruz do Buçaco in Portugal is a special place! It's an old monastery, built back in 1628, right in the heart of a protected forest, called Mata Nacional do Buçaco. The surrounding woods are so lush and green - it feels like stepping into a peaceful, hidden world. The place is full of history and I could feel the calm of the monks who once lived here. I really enjoyed exploring it, especially knowing that it's a blend of both old history and beautiful nature!

This one is located next to Busaco Hotel. You need to pay a low admission to enter here. If you have tome, it is worth to visit this museum. Pros: 1. Entrance accessible for wheelchair. 2. The building has great architecture and design. 3. It is clean and well organized.

We were there on a rainy day with a group of 20 people on our motorbikes. We wished to enter the hotel lobby to purchase coffee and drinks. We were turned away by the hotel clerk/manager who was rude. Imagine, they had the opportunity to impress 20 visitors and a high end tour group (Edelweiss Motorcycle Tours) to possibly obtain future and repeat business, and they refused to let us in. They made us all stay out in the rain. Horrific and horrible customer service.

Very Interesting museum, with a low entrance fee of 2 euros, they actually have a lot to offer. You can see old paintings, and hand painted tiles all over, with ceillings doors and windows cladded with natural cork. Inside there is a church and we can climb some spiral stairs all the way up to see the big brass bells dated from the 1850 or so.

At the outset the surrounding is beautiful and the hotel building quite amazing. However, we experienced the hotel restaurant and got a lousy service, not at all in line with a 5 stars hotel restaurant. The convent is totally renewed, however there is no life in it, it is beautifully restored however looks too new to and impeccable to provide any emotion.

Praia da Costa Nova is a stunning beach destination that captivates visitors with its unique charm. This picturesque stretch of sandy coastline, extending over 9 kilometers along the western peninsula, is renowned for its vibrant striped houses that create a colorful backdrop against the golden sands and rolling dunes. The beach offers ample space for sunbathing and relaxation, even during peak summer months when the northern section tends to attract more crowds.
Strong winds all day, it is not very crowded, so you can feel really small compared to the ocean, walking alone on the beach, hearing big waves and wind coming past you, it feel so good.

There is a wooden path that stretches a long way next to the dunes and the beach. It is much easier to walk on the path than on sand, but both feel nice 😁

An interesting river beach with grassy areas and plenty of space to spread out your towel. There are shaded spots as well, one of them thanks to various huge trees — which makes it especially pleasant. There’s also a support bar, always a nice bonus, and even a restaurant right next door. The water is refreshingly cool, perfect for hot days. I highly recommend visiting this river beach!

The beach was nice. However seem closed. We open the gate and went in. Lay there all afternoon. But tried to go to the toilets and a guy told was closed and the area should be closed too. It's 29 celcius. On the 29.09.25. Weather supposedly to be warm for the next 10days. This should be kept open as long as people open. Even if a charge to maintain throughout the year.

I can highly recommend. Very good impression, friendly, fair and as a customer you are treated like a friend. Good communication in English, French, Portuguese and I guess Spanish. Well equipped with anything you need for Catamaran, Windsurf, Kitesurf, Wing-Foil, Opti-Sailing, SUP and Canoes. The trainers are very skilled and experienced with much patience explaining you what you need at the right time for best progress. I was very pleased with everything and enjoyed the lessons, the communications, the food and fresh drinks.

At the very last minute, I recently booked a kayak to introduce a visually impaired friend to kayaking. The set up here at Escola de Vela da Lagoa is great, lovely family owners, good value hire, great cafe for afterwards… My friend loved being on the water & I sat back & relaxed in the double kayak, while she paddled away. My sister hired a SUP at same time and was very happy with the kit provided. We’ll be back another time 🛶😊

We had a really good experience at Escola de Vela Lagoa (EVL). We first came by just asking about the wind for wing foil, and they immediately welcomed us, let us leave our gear there, and helped us every day with advice on where to go out on the lagoon. The food was definitely a highlight delicious and fresh and the spot itself is beautiful, with amazing views over the Óbidos lagoon. The whole team is young, super friendly and always smiling, and Filipe, the owner, was especially kind and helpful during our stay. We spent four great days here good food, nice people, and a wonderful place for wing foiling. Highly recommended!

The most amazing kite surfing experience!!! We spent 4 days straight at the school with a group of 8 guys who were mostly beginners, and we loved every moment of it!! It's a family run business and the whole team and family is fantastic - SO nice, encouraging and accommodating. Every instructor made it a pleasure to learn, and the atmosphere at the club is so cool! Great food, great equipment, and awesome spot on the lagoon with all the other kite surfing schools on the other side so you have all the space in the world. Cannot wait to come back!! Many thanks to Diogo, Yann, Juju, Isabel, Philippe and all the others who made our stay unforgettable, we'll be back every year for sure :)

Had an absolutely wonderful time on this sunset tour (at high tide) on the Tagus River. Our guide, Pedro (? - not sure, sorry!), was very friendly and patient. There were a couple of children on the tour, and he was always answering their silly questions and making jokes about the "trunkodiles" (trunks+ crocodiles) in the river. Their eyes wide open as they listened to what he had to say. He pointed us to many different species of fauna and flora, frequently slowing or stopping the boat so we could observe a bird, the fish or the horses. He also explained how the tides influence what happens in the river (even this high up), how the water hyacinths are endangering the river and its species, among many other things. Although the tour is called "sunset", we didn't see the sun actually set from the boat, as the tour finished at around 8:00 and in August the sun sets almost at 9:00. But you can see it from the pier, which is also beautiful. I called the company up twice because I had several questions. (I had thought about taking someone that was using crutches, but ended up going just with a friend). The person I spoke to (Rui, if I'm not mistaken) was not only quite nice, but also very accommodating to any special needs we might have. I'm hoping to repeat the tour next Spring at low tide.

Loved the extended guided boat trip. Didn't book it so no idea how it works but there were 15 of us on a boat trip which lasted a good 2 to 3 hours into the wetlands of the river where we even saw some wild horses in one of the islands.

Amazing tour! We had a great time listening to stories about the area and the fauna while cruising the river.

No words! Especially Formosa beach. No wonder that already came out several times on "Around the world" Magazine

Awesome beach to watch crazy surfers trying to ride the waves. Beach can get somewhat busy, however, it is very large and you have lots of room to find your own spot. Enjoy the sun 🌞

Spacious beach, but not very good for kids. A lot of waves, so no bathing. But good for sun bathing.

Freeport Fashion Outlet

Shopping
Located just a 45-minute drive from Lisbon, Freeport Fashion Outlet is a sizable outlet center offering a wide range of upscale boutiques, shoe stores, and gift shops. With over 100 renowned brands like Armani, Dolce & Gabbana, and Carolina Herrera, shoppers can enjoy discounts of up to 70%. The outlet also provides convenient amenities such as shuttle services to and from Lisbon, a kids' area, and various dining options.
Now that was an amazing shopping experience. An open-air outlet is so much better than an indoor mall — you get a completely different vibe.

It’s a nice and pleasant drive, but I found the prices quite similar to the ones in Norway. Took my son about 20 minutes to get an ice scream scoop with only a table seated. Hard to understand Had problems with the tax free as not all workers are informed about the rules between Norway and European Union.

Nice complex, with easy access and ample parking. Many shops but not all have the same quality products as the normal shops on town. More outlet shops… prices are competitive if you look for deals. All in all not bad

Open-air outlet with a nice layout. I was expecting more summer clearance deals, but most stores were already preparing for the winter season. Still, it’s a pleasant spot to walk around, with a good mix of popular brands.

Such a hidden gem just outside of Lisbon! I spent two full days shopping here because it’s full of designer stores at really affordable prices that you wouldn’t get anywhere else. There are also clean bathrooms and places to eat so you can spend a lot of time.

I like this kind mall, you can enjoy outside and inside shops, maybe not all shops in my budget, but some of in very good price quality balance :)

Nice outdoor shopping center. Lots of stores from famous international brands, plus numerous local shops that we not familiar with. We went on a Monday and it was not at all crowded. In fact it was quiet and pleasent to walk around.

We were lucky it was a beautiful November day when we went to Freeport. I was a bit afraid as it rained the days prior and there are no covered passages in this place. To go from shop to shop, if it's raining, you will get wet. If it's hot, you will melt. But there are a lot of great shops with good, end of collection/season deals. It's worth a visit.

Mourisca Tide Mill

Mourisca Water Mill is a picturesque spot that's perfect for capturing Instagram-worthy photos. It's one of the four remaining mills in the Sado Estuary, surrounded by saltmarsh and salterns. The area also features remnants of old boats and a stilt harbor, adding to its charm. Nearby, you can savor delicious local honey from the gardens of Convento da Arrabida, a former monastery.
Came here on the gastronomic festivity of the same name. Given it doubles as a religious ceremony, we arrived just as mass was undergoing so it was a bit head to get in but nothing irregular when festivities occur here. Food was served by the various sports and religious associations, restaurant/tapas style, and since it was still mass it still took around 150-30 minutes to get the food ready to serve which is very much understandable. Weather was also pretty mild lower them the usual 38ish°C (26°C at noon) and made it a rather enjoyable time. All in all festivities make this otherwise calm nature reserve a small hustle and bustle of mostly old people and booze one can easily get in if you know any of them, otherwise you're mostly here for the food at lunch and dinner and or some artist you like or association you support, otherwise you're not gonna enjoy it.

Cute place for a nice little walk, wouldn't recommend being there for more than 2 hours, 2 hours is good enough to relax, watching the stunning views and have a good cup of coffee by the water. Recommend going when there are birds to sight see.
Yvana — Google review
Nice and cozy, but very small, don't expect to find a nice table in the shade on the hot summer days. Better for a spring walk

Really worth the visit. The building is quite interesting and there is a nice café, but we most enjoyed the bird watching and walking around the salt fields. Bring binoculars if you have a pair!

Nice place transformed in a small museum to preserve the memory of its past, when it was important in mowing cereals by the use of tides flow… there is also a small cafe, with ideal atmosphere for a short rest stop! Overall highly recommended!

Birdwatching paradise in the Sado River estuary. When the tide goes out the wetlands become muddy with trapped fish that the birds feast on. The highlight is the wild flamingos. The Milho de maré is preserved skewing how they used the riding tide streets to turn the grist mill to grind grain. Nice coffeehouse.

Old water mill converted to a museum. Good area to relax and enjoy some drinks and food/pastries. Birdwatching nearby and also by boat tour.
