The Art of Silk Museum, located in Tsiakiri House, showcases the rich sericultural history of the region. The museum offers a detailed insight into the process of silk production, from silkworms feeding on mulberry leaves to the creation of silk thread. Visitors can also explore a shop offering a variety of silk products from local family businesses.
On a journey from Edirne to Alexandroupolis, we made a delightful stop at the Art of Silk Museum, located in a town renowned as the only place in Europe where silk is completely produced, from cultivating silkworms to weaving the final fabrics. The museum offers a fascinating, free tour available in Greek or English that comprehensively covers every step of silk production. This includes the hatching of larvae, cocooning, and the intriguing process of spinning silk with machinery. It was enlightening to see the entire lifecycle and production process firsthand. Although the tour is free, the museum features a shop where the allure of beautifully crafted silk items is hard to resist. Whether you’re interested in clothes, tableware, or other silk products, you're likely to find something that catches your eye. This museum is not only educational but also a testament to the intricate art of silk-making. It’s a must-visit for anyone traveling through the area, providing a deep appreciation for this exquisite craft

Great small museum worth a visit . Entrance fee but great info and not busy
Maria T — Google review
Very nice place. Very accessible to disable person (elevator to the 2nd floor of the museum and to the toilet as well). Very interesting and informative. The reception was very positive and helpful. It’s a small place and very welcoming. A small gift shop at the end.
Nathy L — Google review
What an intriguing museum! Your (very affordable) ticket includes a fascinating presentation by the staff on the traditional methods of raising silkworms and producing silk. Additionally, the shop offers silk at excellent prices.
Thomas M — Google review
We were taken into a very interesting and Informative tour about the historical silk production of the area, the only still active silk production in Europe. We were shown the eggs of the silk worm, the cocoons and had a demonstration of the old machinery, all Detailfull explained by a nice lady who showed passion on the subject. It is worth a visit if you're in the area.

Thank you for a nice excursion in english and greek. We were confused at the beginning with reviews here that this exposition is not so full. It has a lot to learn, explore. There were just 2 of us, we didnt book an excursion, there was a nice girl who made for us very interesting excursion, introduction to the silk production. i become much more aware not only about silk but how generally textile is produced, differences with cotton etc. A few silk gifts we bought now have a nice story to present how it was made! Thank you. I recommend everyone for visiting.
Roman S — Google review
Very small and limited no connection with today. The visitor keep with doubts if silk production is dead and the territory people does not excercise it. Very bad version of an industrial museum with a lot of photographs and videos and limited artefacts. I lost my 4 euros
Ioannis K — Google review
For it's price (3 euro admission) was fair not much to see but the employee that gave us the tour was amazing knowledgeable and very kind and professional not much to see but ask questions and you will get scientific answers back + 1 star for the great tour

Dadia Forest is situated in the heart of Evros, covering the southeastern hilly outskirts of Rodopi mountain mass. The area features smooth hills, ravines, brooks, mature pine and oak forests interrupted by clearings and pastures. It also has steep mountain sides and rocks creating a dream-like landscape. Muradiye Cami

Mosque
Sights & Landmarks
The Muradiye Mosque, originally used as a Mevlevihane, exudes a magnificent aroma of history through its valuable tiles. The remnants in its garden transport visitors back in time. This mosque is an essential destination for anyone traveling to Edirne.
(Translated by Google) In the restoration process It was built together with the bridge by Murat II in 1443. Mosques built by Ottoman sultans are called sultan mosques. 20 to 30 acres of mosque, soup kitchen, caravanserai, madrasah, bakery, warehouse, boza house and candle shop built in the form of a social complex (olive oil is dyed red so that it does not interfere with foundation property and people do not eat it). Murat II wore a loincloth around his waist and distributed food to the people, just as his grandfather Orhan Gazi did in the Iznik social complex. Uzunköprülü İsmail Hakkı Balkas states that the caravanserai fountain sold on Kurtuluş Street existed in the 1850s. It had a 20-ton water reservoir. It was the most important water source of the city, unfortunately it does not exist today. (Original) Restorasyon sürecinde 2. Murat tarafından 1443 yılında köprü ile birlikte yaptırılmış. (Translated by Google) It is the Selatin Mosque built by Sultan Murat II in 1443 or 1444. Of the mosque and its surroundings, only the mosque and a small burial area have survived to the present day. It is thought that it had the characteristics of a social complex when it was first built. Although it is written in old sources that the mosque was built with a dome, its dome was changed to a barrel roof in the repairs made in the following years. It is known that Sultan Murat II loved Uzunköprü very much. Murat II gave great importance to the city of Cisr-i Ergenene, which is the transition route between Rumelia and Anatolia, and created many works. Unfortunately, many of these works (especially the fountains) have not survived to the present day. The mosque is currently in the restoration process and I am eagerly waiting for it to be completed as soon as possible. Because, among the Ottoman mosques, there are not many works left except the mosques in Bursa, which are from the 15th century.

Mosques built by Ottoman sultans are called sultan mosques. Our Muradiye mosque is also a sultan's mosque. According to Ottoman dates and Edirne province yearbooks, the mosque is large enough to accommodate five hundred people. Sultan Murat II greatly valued the world's longest stone bridge and mosque at the time, built in the city of Ergene. At the opening of the foundation complex he created in the city of Ergene, he lit the candles of the mosque with his own hands with great humility and served the food to the guests he invited from Edirne and attended from the city of Ergene. It is also stated that there are miniature pictures showing that the Muradiye Mosque had a dome in its first construction. The front, rear and side eaves covers of the mosque are made as a flat roof. It has a single balconied minaret made of cut stone in the front right corner.

The inscription on the door of the mosque gives the year 839 (1435-36), but it is lost today. It is known that Murad's foundation charter is dated 830 (1427). The architect of the complex is unknown, but it is thought to have been built by the architect Şehabeddin. Beautiful but sad how many lives were lost Young men Hoaxed and made the ultimate sacrifice Many grave markers aged 19 I'm sure many lies about their age thou The Turkish government has maintained these cemeteries impeccably 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

It was a very rewarding day, spent on the Gallipoli Peninsula. We started in a unique way, on board a boat and approaching “Ari Burnu” (ie ANZAC Cove) from the sea - much as the ‘diggers’ did some 100 years ago. What a perspective.
Norm P — Google review
Beautiful experience and highly recommend to anyone visiting turkey. The Turkish government has done a wonderful job with the memorials for the ANZAC soldiers. A tour guide will take you around the land and show you all the important spots. Anzac cove was breathtaking and it was very moving.

Gallipoli Peninsula Historical National Park is a significant site that holds the history of the Gallipoli campaign during World War I. This location is renowned for its unconventional warfare and symbolizes valiant efforts and mutual respect between nations. Visiting this park offers an opportunity to delve into the historical impact of the war and pay homage to the bravery and patriotism displayed by those involved.
Incredibly moving and emotional place for Aussies to visit. I shed a few tears as the sad loss of life of all the young men that died here. Such a respectful place and tribute to our anzacs, the Turks and French and British and even Indians who gave their life in these battles. A must see for Aussies

Just FYI! These pictures are from the War Museum, which is 4 MINS driving from this specific location, don’t get confused! Not the best indicated, a bit confusing and less information than expected. If you drive to this specific location/building, you will not be able to enter. To go to the War Museum drive further in that road and then turn to the right when you see it indicated.

The size of this park in terms of territory and how the people of Turkey have kept history alive is truly impressive. Moreover, the cleanliness and maintenance of all monuments deserves admiration. Can really meet global criteria. It’s definitely worth the visit but give yourself at least two or three days if you want to see everything. Also beware of turtles! 🐢☺️

Great time spent here. Moment of reflection for the legendaries, braveries and patriotism of a people led by the strong faith in their heart and readiness to sacrifice their lives and souls for the future of only their people but all the marginalised and underprivileged people of the world. This peninsula witnessed a war where all the odds were against the Turks but their faith and bravery won them a legend unequalled anywhere in the history of the world.

It is a great location in the history of WW1 and Turkish history as well. It can be done on a single day from Istanbul. The presence of a good guide I think is essential, since it is difficult to be appraised of the entire history of events or their significance.

I lived in Australia and New Zealand for a few years and Gallipoli is almost a founding myth in those respective countries. It was fascinating to come here and see the place and battle(s) I heard so much about. What was really interesting was also to see it from Ottoman/Turkish perspective. What's amazing about the whole complex is how the winning side the Turks have almost dedicated it to losing side renaming the landing area to Anzac cove etc. I can't think of anywhere else where such a thing has happened. I did a tour which you almost have to do. It's a big site so walking and local buses are not a realistic prospect. It was really hot so bring water and sunscreen but most of all if you have heard of Gallipoli and have any interest in it absolutely worth a visit.

The trip of my life! I wanted to visit the gallipoli peninsula all my life. Now that I got here and I attended a tour program I get to learn all that I wanted to learn first handedly. I suppose it is the most famous tomp (there are a lot) in Gallipoli. Locals come here with a Turkish flag and attached the flag around the tomp and make a wish to hope that comes true with a prayer. If that wish comes true, they repeat the process. Whishes generally are child, wellness, house, car, etc. you name it.

The Trojan Statue is a towering steel and fiberglass sculpture of the horse from Greek mythology, famously used in the 2004 movie 'Troy.' It was gifted to the city of Canakkale, located approximately 25 kilometers from the ancient city of Troy. Situated near the sea amidst numerous restaurants and cafes, it boasts a small open-air museum showcasing a model of ancient Troy.
Such a great history this place has. If you visit the city , don’t forget to swing by here. There is no parking nearby so you need to park the car and walk here.

Hollywood History on the Harbour. This is the actual Trojan Horse used in 2004 movie Troy. A great landmark that clearly ties the modern city to the ancient history of the region. Free to visit.

You should see it once. It's amazing. A big wooden horse for the movie. The view from there is next to the pier. It's soooooo beautiful.

Was a nice thing to see. It was donated to the city after the making of the movie Troy. Nothing to write home about though...

A must-see for history buffs and movie lovers! This iconic statue brings to life the legendary tale of the Trojan Horse, a pivotal moment in Greek mythology. The scale of the statue is impressive, and it's a great photo opportunity. For those unfamiliar, the story goes: The Greeks, unable to conquer the fortified city of Troy through conventional means, devised a cunning plan. They built a giant wooden horse, supposedly an offering to the gods, and left it outside the city gates. Hidden within the horse were Greek soldiers who, under the cover of night, emerged and opened the gates for the Greek army, leading to the fall of Troy. This statue gained further fame after appearing in the 2004 movie "Troy," starring Brad Pitt. Even if you're not a history buff, the statue is a fascinating piece of art and a reminder of the enduring power of storytelling.

Museums
The Military Marine Museum is a vast indoor and outdoor venue that showcases historical sailing vessels, cannons, and other military artillery. The museum includes exhibits on the Canakkale war, Cimenlik Castle, and the Nusret Mine Ship. While admission for students is free, adults must pay 13 Liras to enter. Visitors can expect to spend around two hours exploring the fascinating displays inside the museum.
This afternoon we wandered around the city and visited Çimenlik Castle (built 1462). Over the centuries it has been one of two twin fortresses that protect the narrows of the Dardanelles. It was last used as a strategic defence position in WWI and is now a museum. It gave an account of WWI from the Turks perspective.
Norm P — Google review
The first thing to know about this museum is that the price at the gate is higher than what is posted on the official website. The website says that the entrance fee is 90 Turkish lira, but upon arrival we were informed that the price was 400 Turkish lira. We were told that we could only pay with a Turkish bank card or with cash. We were surprised and dismayed at the price difference between what was officially posted on the website and what the guards insisted that we pay at the gate. The next thing to know is that the bathroom is located outside of the museum near the cafe. There is no bathroom once you pass through the entry gates. This museum is comprised of both indoor and outdoor exhibits. You will be walking outside so plan to dress appropriately for the weather on the day of your visit. There are steps to navigate to get to the inside parts of the museum. We saw a couple struggling to get a baby stroller down the stone steps, which were uneven. This could be a difficult place to get through if you have physical mobility limitations or if you have a baby stroller. This was an interesting place to visit, but we left disappointed about the discrepancy in the listed entrance fee and what was posted on the official website. It felt like we did not get value for the money we paid.

Great place to visit in Çanakkale. The entrance fee is 400 TL for adults and 200 for students, but it's worth every penny. With the ticket you can visit both a medieval fortress, a submarine 😱, and a ship that was planting mines in WWI. Getting inside a real submarine is quite a rare experience and I enjoyed it thoroughly.

What a perfect conservation of the history. Beautifle expositions and reallistic videos. Strongly recommend to visit this museum. It is full with history about the Ottoman empire and Turkiye Republic. It is a worth to visit it.

Excellent museum with a rich collection. Çimenlik Kalesi that hosts the museum is historically remarkable and impressive. The visit takes about 3 hours including the S338 submarine and Nusret minelayer.

Nice castle, surrounded by old armaments with a lot of history, specialty form the WW1 and the Galipoli battle, You can visita a first war germany submarine, and old ship and the museum itself, full of history about the important battle.
David G — Google review
The museum is inside the Ottoman castle, Çimenlik Kalesi, which used to be our destination to spend time by the seaside sitting on a bench in the good old days. Now you get access only by buying a ticket, which is sad. Yet inside the castle, they created a great atmosphere of memories of Canakkale Battle. Inside the castle, you may spend some relaxing time even though you don't like the war stuff, because the castle is really beautiful under the dim yellow light.
Elif S — Google review
We paid 200tl even with museum cards and residence permits. It worth it. It’s not only open air area, you also can go to the castle and learn about its history. However, it’s impossible to go to the top of the castle

Kuşcenneti Milli Parkı

National park
Nature & Parks
Lakeside park with look-out tower to spot migrating birds like herons, pelicans & cormorants.
An estimated 255 species of birds visit Bird Paradise National Park at the edge of Kuş Gölü, the lake formerly known as Manyas Gölü. Loca ted on the great migratory paths between Europe and Asia, the park is a happy combination of plant cover, reedbeds and a lake that supports at least 20 species of fish. The park will delight amateur and professional birdwatchers alike, and a good field guide and some mosquito repellent will enhance the experience. At the entrance to the park, there is a small museum with displays about various birds. Binoculars are provided at the desk and visitors make their way to an observation tower. Two main groups of birds visit the lake: those that come here to breed (March–July), and those that pass by during migration, either heading south (November) or north (April–May). Among the birds that breed around the lake are the endangered Dalmatian pelican, the great crested grebe, cormorants, herons, bitterns and spoonbills. Over three million birds fly across the area on their migratory routes – storks, cranes, pelicans and birds of prey like sparrowhawks and spotted eagles. April and May are the best months to enjoy this area. Close to the main park area, there is a restaurant that serves fresh trout, and it is a good spot to break for lunch.

Probably went at the wrong time of day but barely saw some flamingos in the distance. Have to pay to get in and olits really small and you have to pay to use the telescope in the only tower. Not worth it.
James G — Google review
Lovely park, however the best view you get is from the live stream screens in the museum. The tower is a good idea, 1 lira to use the telescopes where you cannot adjust focus or zoom. Overall the live feeds were amazing, but I wish the telescopes were better and that you could walk around more
Kate B — Google review
I was there 30 years ago. My memory was a huge wild forest. It is now looks like a mansion garden. It is possible to see some pelicans and other sea birds like flamingo. Or you can visit museum and check filled birds.

Aseel A — Google review
It's a nice place to visit. There is a birds museum but it's not very big, you can see only local birds there. You can also sit in the chair and watch birds online from cameras placed over the natural park. The thing I liked most is a possibility to watch birds. You can take binoculars for free and watch birds from the Birds watching tower.
Viktoriia A — Google review
The national park is only about 20 minutes away from Bandirma but, the minibus station from which minibuses drive to the park is a little far from the city centre. There are minibus services to the park and back a few times during the day. The park itself is worth to see from my opinion as there are not many other places to visit in Bandirma. The park has a little museum in which you can find taxidermy birds common in the park. There is also a watch tower from where you can watch birds nesting, etc. You might borrow a pair of binoculars from the museum to see the birds in a better manner. The park is so quite and far from city noise pollution. So, it could be a unique experience for you particularly if you enjoy birdwatching. The villagers at the nearby village are also friendly and helpful.

Değirmen Boğazı Natural Park is a serene escape perfect for those looking to unwind in nature. With its expansive picnic areas and scenic walking trails, it offers a delightful setting for families and friends alike. The park is home to numerous friendly cats that add charm to the experience. While it can get crowded, especially on weekends, making parking a bit of a challenge, the atmosphere remains vibrant with families enjoying barbecues amidst the lush greenery.
Quiet natural place for spending time I made a long walk in this place for a picnic area it was very clean , you can also see a lot of cats it is also a nice detail about this place. I pay 20 lira for the entrence which is like 1 euro or something like that so it was cheap, I satisfied.

The Asclepieion of Pergamon, located in Bergama, is a significant historical site dating back to the 4th century BC. This ancient complex was dedicated to Asclepius, the god of health, and served as a place of healing centered around natural springs. The main complex features circular architecture with interconnected passages and tunnels, along with a partially restored theater and stoa. Visitors can also enjoy stunning views of the hilltop Pergamon site from this location.

Healing Sanctuary of the Ancient World / The Asclepieion of Pergamon was not only a center for physical healing, but also a symbolic heart of ancient Greco-Roman medical science. Founded in the 4th century BC and flourishing during the Roman period, it was one of the three most famous healing temples of antiquity, alongside Epidaurus and Kos. It functioned as a sacred place where medicine, religion, and ritual came together in harmony. Patients would undergo purification rituals, offer sacrifices, and enter the temple through a long sacred way. Inside, treatments included dream interpretation, the use of medicinal herbs, hydrotherapy, mud baths, and even sound therapy using music and theater. The sacred spring was believed to have healing powers, and the underground tunnel—used to guide patients from the entrance to the heart of the sanctuary—symbolized a spiritual transition. When we visited the site, we were truly amazed by the scale of the sanctuary, especially the tunnel and the sacred water area. Even though centuries have passed, the infrastructure was still impressive. The massive columns, the length of the healing tunnel, and the well-preserved water systems reflected how advanced and well-planned this place was. It made us appreciate how seriously healing and human well-being were taken in the ancient world. #AsclepieionOfPergamon #AncientHealing #GalenLegacy #SacredSpring #AncientTunnel #PergamonHistory

Acropolis Lower Cableway Station

Sights & Landmarks
Ancient Ruins
The Acropolis Lower Cableway Station offers a convenient mode of transportation to reach the Acropolis. However, if you wish to visit the museum located upstairs, an additional fee is required. Alternatively, you can choose not to go up and explore the area around the station instead. During such exploration, you may have the opportunity to interact with local vendors like Elif who sells delightful wild honey.
A good way to access the akropolis and then walk down. One-way ticket for foreign tourists is 400 TL, the price is steep but so it's the hill. At the top station there are shops for souvenirs and refreshments. One vendor even has frozen water bottles.
Bob C — Google review
They charge L500 each per return trip or L350 for a one way 3 minute ride. And that’s before paying to enter the Akropolis site. So we walked up (45 min) and down again through the additional places of interest for L0. You’re better to drive, walk or get a taxi.
Stephen H — Google review
There is a cable car which takes you to the Acropolis but upstairs you need to pay extra to see the museum. I honestly didnt go up. I stayed down and bonded with a local lady named Elif who was selling the most delicious wild honey so I bought two jars and we just talked.

Explanations (in the English version) were rather bad, verging on the not understandable, with major mistakes (no Athens did not win the Peloponesian war !). The collection itself is also rather underwhelming, in part due to some of the best pieces being in Istanbul's archeological museum. I must however congratulate the personnel working there for their honesty, returning to me some money that had fallen from my pocket without me noticing it.

Waterfall dropping off a sheer cliff into natural pools ringed by forest greenery & picnic benches.
A great place to visit for a short trip. There’s also a forest with camping space and a place for fireworks so you can bring something with you and chill in the quite forest area. You need to take care of kids because this place is not super safe for them. Also a wheelchair access missed but you can watch everything from panoramic view terrace on the entry. A parking space is free here.

Suuçtu Waterfall near Mustafakemalpaşa, Bursa, is a serene and scenic natural wonder. Surrounded by lush green forest, the waterfall cascades elegantly over a high rock face, creating a peaceful atmosphere ideal for a picnic or nature walk. The cool mist and the sound of falling water provide a refreshing escape from the summer heat. It’s also great for photography and relaxing by the rocks. Easily accessible and family-friendly, Suuçtu is a perfect spot for a short nature

A splendid place. Natural waterfalls, beautiful forest and, at the same time, all the conveniences such as benches, toilets and a cafe. Be sure to walk a bit down the river stream — there are less people there and the nature is more authentic. Tickets are bought at the car gates and cost 30 TL per car.

Great place and great photo opportunity but way undeserved with almost zero facilities (except to small convience shop). The toalit is located on a relatively high piece of land, very inconvenient to the less able people. The pictures are self explanatory.

⛰️Peaceful, majestic, and awe inspiring. I went here in mid March and I had the waterfall to myself. Getting here from Bursa ➡️ Go to main bus station, take bus to Mustafakemalpaşa (50L) ➡️ Taxi to suuçtu (250TL) I'm sure you can bargain for less but my taxi driver was awesome and joined me on my adventure plus the drive is 20-30 min. There's typically a bus that goes to the next town but this was off season so it wasn't available. My only option was a taxi. ✅ Free entry (at least when I went) Be careful the rocks are extremely slippery. I wish I could have went hiking but it was so muddy I wasn't able to walk very far before going back. I spent about an hour there but you can easily spend several hours if you wanted to hike.

Perfect place for nature lovers. Butterflies and birds all around. Water is cold and simply beautiful overall atmosphere. Loved it!

Simply amazing! Definitely a must see! The place is magical with the great view and fresh air. The administration did a great job organising and keeping the place clean. After you are done admiring the natural beauty of the waterfall there is even a great picnic place with tables where you can enjoy your time and if you aren't prepared for a picnic then the cafe by the road is a perfect choice.
Daniel C — Google review
Being there was like a dream. At the first time seeing I was amazed. Even my two years of daughter amazed. Suuçtu word which is Turkish means water fly. Waterfall is made of stone. All its part is stone. There are picnic ares around the waterfall. I was there week days there was not many people but weekend seems busy. My company travelistanbul.co/ may take you this lovely place and share this God creature beauty with you. Enjoy the photos.

Sardis Ancient City

Ancient Ruins
Sardis Ancient City, located east of Izmir, is an astonishing archaeological site that was one of the most important cities in antiquity. The city boasts impressive ruins including a Roman gymnasium, synagogue, Byzantine churches, and the temple of Artemis. The site is still being excavated and has undergone significant refurbishment to preserve its historical significance. Visitors can explore the well-maintained synagogue with beautiful mosaics and a glass floor over one of them.
This was the fourth of the seven congratulations in the book of revelation that we saw yesterday and it was the least expensive and best one so far, helpful staff, nice shop, and ice cold drinks out front , don't forget there is more to see up the hill in another site and your 110 Turkish £ ticket covered it, on the same day
Kevin P — Google review
The Forgotten Glory of the Lydian Empire / Sardis, once the glittering capital of the Lydian Empire, offers a remarkably well-preserved glimpse into a once-thriving ancient civilization. The Lydian Empire flourished in western Anatolia from the 7th to 6th century BCE and is credited with inventing the world’s first known coinage, made of electrum. Under the legendary King Croesus, Sardis became synonymous with immense wealth and influence. One of the most impressive structures in Sardis today is the Roman-era gymnasium, with its reconstructed two-story marble façade, soaring arches, and monumental design that showcased Roman ideals of strength and education. Just beside it lies the grand ancient synagogue—one of the largest known from antiquity—testifying to the vibrant Jewish community that lived in Sardis. The synagogue’s well-preserved mosaic floors, adorned with geometric patterns, and the standing columns create a vivid picture of religious life in the late Roman period. When we arrived, we were surprised to find so few visitors despite the vastness of the site. It felt peaceful and uncrowded, allowing us to reflect more deeply. Seeing the scale of Sardis made us realize how vast and powerful the empire must have been. We truly hope more people take the time to visit this impressive and meaningful place. #SardisAncientCity #LydianEmpire #RomanGymnasium #AncientSynagogue #Mosaics #Croesus #SevenChurches

This was such a lovely place to visit. Lots of biblical and ancient history. It’s not as big as some other sites so you wouldn’t need as much time. I enjoyed visiting.

The City of Sardis. The capital of the Lydian empire of 200,000 inhabitants. Had the largest synagogue in Asia Minor and known for its elaborate Bath system and Gymnasium. A place you must see in turkey. This place in one of the seven churches mentioned in the bibile. The letter to the church in Sardis, warns its believers to Wake-up and take their walk with The Lord seriously.
Yohan F — Google review
Visited the ruins while on group tour with members of my church. We were amazed with the excavated ruins dating back to the Byzantine and Lydian eras. The gymnasium building and synagogue mosaics were definite highlights.

Nice place in very beautiful scenery. We visited this place in May for 5 days and it was cool, but not too cold, unless it rained. The thermal bath is very unique and classic, with tall rooms and white marble stone walls. 5/5 value for money. Good and practical place for the price. A bit old-fashioned. Rooms were good and clean enough. Friendly staff. Pools are separated for men and women but you can rent a family pool. Rooms have their own bath tubs with thermal water. A lot of parking place. Rooms are warm and have air-condition.

It's a beautiful place with rich nature, clean and well kept accommodation. It's a humble place that well worth the 180 tl price tag. Although it's an old place but amazingly well kept and clean. Having said that, it's time to renovate the furniture. I recommend this place over any hotel as it offers fantastic natural setting.

(Translated by Google) DETAILED DESCRIPTION I looked at the comments before coming, but I came anyway. The facility is very nice, we stayed in B type rooms, in large nature, very clean inside, nice sheets, very clean, I paid special attention to it, the thermal bathtub is in the bathroom, the bathtub was old, I guess they don't care much because it belongs to the municipality, but we washed it and used it. The water was very nice and hot, in fact, there is a refrigerator, TV, and stove in the rooms. You need to bring things like plates, glasses, etc. when you come, if you don't want to, there is a restaurant that serves grills within the facility, there is also a restaurant for breakfast, mixed breakfast for two people is 500. Before you reach the facility, there is an alcoholic restaurant 500 meters behind. The price is very reasonable. If you come in the summer, there is a large outdoor playground and a children's playground. Apart from that, there is a small grocery store within the facility selling junk food, shampoo, bread, cigarettes, etc. There is a common thermal pool in the area for men and women. Separately, there is a children's playground within the facility. We were satisfied. We paid 3000 TL per night for a room for 3 people. The price just seemed high to us. Other than that, it was very nice. Cakiraga Mansion is a historical gem located in the charming village of Birgi, Turkey. This well-preserved Ottoman mansion has been converted into a museum, showcasing its rich history and traditional lifestyle. The wooden building features stunning hand-painted decorations adorning the walls and ceilings, offering visitors a visual treat. Nestled in a green courtyard, the mansion boasts beautiful miniatures and frescoes, reflecting the opulence of its time.
A real gem in Birgi. The best part lace to be in the cosy old town of Birgi. It is good that it’s been converted to museum. Considering that it’s a wooden building well preserved. Hand painted decorations all over the walls and ceilings are absolutely beautiful.

Ismail A — Google review
Birgi is an enchanting village in Turkiye that feels untouched by time. Known for its beautifully preserved Ottoman architecture, rich historical significance, and peaceful “slow town” vibe, Birgi offers an immersive experience into Turkish heritage and rural life. Designated as a Cittaslow, or "slow town," Birgi takes pride in preserving its traditional lifestyle and natural environment, creating a refreshing escape for travelers seeking history, culture, and tranquility. Birgi’s roots trace back to ancient times, when it was home to Phrygian, Lydian, and Roman civilizations before flourishing under the Aydinids and later the Ottomans. As a result, Birgi is a living tapestry of history, blending diverse cultures and architectural styles in a way that feels both rich and harmonious. This legacy makes Birgi a unique and invaluable part of Turkey’s cultural landscape, as well as a destination of international importance for those interested in historical preservation. One of Birgi's most striking features is its well-preserved Ottoman architecture. Walking through the village's cobblestone streets, you’ll find elegant wooden houses with intricate woodwork and traditional stone facades, many of which date back centuries. The Çakırağa Mansion, one of Birgi’s most iconic buildings, is a masterpiece of Ottoman craftsmanship. Built in the 18th century, this grand mansion features beautifully painted interiors and detailed wood carvings that reflect the sophistication and artistic talent of its time. It’s a rare example of the Ottoman elite’s lifestyle and remains one of Turkey’s most treasured heritage sites. The Great Mosque of Birgi, or Ulu Camii, is another must-visit landmark. Built in the early 14th century by Mehmet Bey, the mosque is one of the oldest in Anatolia and a stunning example of Seljuk architecture. Its wooden minbar, decorated with delicate carvings, and the unique stone design reflect the aesthetic sensibilities of the Aydinid period. This mosque is a peaceful place to reflect on the region’s spiritual history and admire the craftsmanship that has withstood the centuries. Birgi’s commitment to preserving its heritage extends beyond its architecture to its way of life. As a Cittaslow, Birgi prioritizes sustainable living and traditional culture, inviting visitors to slow down and savor the small moments. The village’s narrow streets are lined with family-run shops, artisan markets, and cozy cafes where you can enjoy locally sourced food and handmade crafts. The pace of life here is slow, allowing you to truly appreciate the surroundings and connect with the local people, who are warm, welcoming, and proud of their heritage. The local cuisine is another highlight of a visit to Birgi. Many of the dishes here are prepared with ingredients grown in the surrounding farmlands and flavored with herbs from the Bozdağ Mountains. You can savor traditional Aegean dishes, from fresh olive oils to savory gözleme (stuffed flatbreads) and handcrafted jams. Dining in Birgi is not just a meal; it’s a cultural experience that showcases the village’s agricultural roots and commitment to sustainable practices. Birgi’s natural beauty adds to its charm, with lush landscapes, olive groves, and fresh mountain air. The village is surrounded by trails that lead into the Bozdağ Mountains, offering opportunities for hiking and exploring the pristine environment. Each season brings its own beauty to Birgi, from the vibrant blooms of spring to the golden hues of autumn. The landscape itself feels like part of the village’s identity, a source of pride and livelihood for the people who call it home. For anyone interested in history, architecture, or simply finding a peaceful retreat, Birgi is a remarkable destination. Its status as a slow town and dedication to preserving its heritage make it a model for sustainable tourism. By visiting Birgi, you’re not just exploring a village—you’re experiencing a way of life rooted in respect for tradition, nature, and community.

Definitely off the beaten path but pretty impressive. They are continually excavating and unearthing the area. They have already posted signs of information. If you’re up for a short high, the view at the top is really nice. Right now it is free to visit and it closes at 5:00. There was 1 other person visiting when we arrived and there were a couple diggers in the area.

Make sure not to miss this hidden gem if you're in the vicinity. Located approximately 40 km north of Denizli, to the east of Buldan and Yenicekent Towns, it nestles at the base of a hill nestled between the Buyuk Menderes River and Yenicekent Town. The stunning natural landscape, especially the mountain views, makes it a destination worth exploring! Continuous excavation efforts are underway, revealing more of its historical treasures. Informative signs have been strategically placed to guide visitors through the site. For those seeking a brief adventure, the panoramic view from the hilltop is simply breathtaking. Admission is currently free, with closing time set at 5:00 PM. During our visit, there were no other tourists around, just a few dedicated excavators working nearby.

Hidden gem in between villages. Tripolis provides guests with a lot to look at. Thanks to the, still ongoing, reconstructions. Walk through the old streets, have a look into the remote church and even make a little break at the elevation with an astonishing panorama-view. If you're near Denizli/Aydın then plan a day-vacation! Besides, entree is free and you'll even be escorted by a companion. The cute dog will follow you and is more than happy to get some pets on his head.

The Aphrodisias Ancient City Museum, established in 1979, showcases recovered artifacts from the historic Greek city of Aphrodisias. Located in a remote Anatolian region, this site encompasses vast expanses and beautiful natural surroundings such as Roman poplars, green fields and chirping birds. It was added to UNESCO's World Heritage List in 2017 for its grandeur and scale.
While somewhat of a detour from other sites, this place is absolutely worth a visit. The site itself is phenomenal, with a largely intact greek amphitheater with a capacity of 30,000 people, an extensively restored public pool and Roman theater. You will see a lot without the crowds of Efesus or Pumukalle.

We had limited time and we were not sure if we should include this in our itinerary, but we did and we were delighted. Way less crowded than Ephesus, and from my point of view experientially deeper and easier to immerse into the history of the place without the tour busses. Though smaller than Ephesus, the 170 m long swimming pool must have been a treat, and Aphrodisias had plenty of water the gardens were reportedly magnificent. Definitely a City I may have wanted to live in back in the day…
