Selimiye Mosque is a magnificent Ottoman imperial mosque located in Edirne, Turkey. Built around 1575, it features impressive 71-meter-tall minarets and a grand dome. Designed by the renowned architect Mimar Sinan and named after Sultan Selim II, this masterpiece of Ottoman architecture showcases delicate interior decorations in typical Islamic style.
Did a drive to Edirne and had the chance to see thee excellent mosques and see what life in northwest Turkey was like

Visiting the Selimiye Mosque in Edirne was an unforgettable experience for me. Designed by the famous Ottoman architect Mimar Sinan, it’s considered his masterpiece, and I can definitely see why. The massive central dome and the perfectly balanced proportions of the structure are absolutely breathtaking. I was especially amazed by the intricate tile work and the sense of space and light inside the mosque—it feels both grand and peaceful at the same time. Knowing that Sinan built it when he was in his 80s makes it even more impressive. It’s not just a religious site, but also a symbol of artistic and architectural brilliance.
Arlind S — Google review
A great mosque, but unfortunately, when I went to visit, most of it was closed because they were working on restoration! Anyway, if you’re around Edirne, you should definitely visit it and see what the great Ottoman architect Mimar Sinan was able to design. From my perspective, this mosque is a must-visit!

Selimiye Mosque is one of Edirne’s most important iconic attraction. It was build in the 15th Century, unfortunately during our visit, Mosque is under restoration ,scheduled to complete by 2025. However we did have a good tour inside . It is beautiful, was selected as UNESCO World heritage site in 2011 Selimiye is a vast and striking Ottoman imperial mosque. It has a grand dome, accompanied by 4nos. 71m-tall beautiful slender minarets under the sky (2 of which are under restoration) For visitors, be sure to follow the customs, remove your shoes before stepping on the carpet to enter, wear clothes that covers your shoulders & knees and women must wear a headscarf. We had great time exploring inside , indeed an architectural masterpiece with ceiling adorned with floral iznik tiles and especially for its big open space enchanced by its colorful floral carpet. A must see if you are ever in Edirne !!!!

Its a beautiful mosque but right now its under major renovation. Only small portion of mosque is open for tourists.

August 1978: from Pavia to Istanbul, entering Turkey from Greece at Edirne, the ancient Adrianople. The Commander of the Turkish border post, very kind, offered us tea and gave us precious directions for the continuation of the journey. We visited the Mosque, wonderful, we listened to the songs and prayers of the Muezzin. And then off, towards Istanbul. We were, for those times, in a distant country, beautiful and very different from Italy, but we never felt like foreigners.
Roberto C — Google review
Can't say much. Another mosque that is being renovated. Maybe I've seen to many but lots of people were visiting.

Meriç Bridge

Bridge
Meriç Bridge, also known as Mecidiye Bridge, is a significant Ottoman-era bridge in Edirne. Constructed between 1842 and 1847 during Sultan Abdulmecit's reign, it spans the Meric River on the Edirne-Karaagac road. This historical landmark offers stunning sunset views and is surrounded by a former customs post and other historic buildings. Visitors can enjoy carriage rides and relax with tea at the foot of the bridge.
Meriç Bridge (Mecidiye Bridge) Built during the reign of Sultan Abdülmecid, the Meriç Bridge, also known as Mecidiye Bridge, was constructed between 1842 and 1847. Spanning 263 meters in length and 7 meters in width, it features 12 pointed arches supported by 13 piers, with a distinctive sloping design. Located on the Edirne-Karaağaç route over the Meriç River, this historical bridge is a testament to Ottoman engineering. Nearby, you'll find riverside restaurants where you can enjoy a coffee while taking in the view. The area is also home to Turkey's largest rowing course. A particularly enchanting experience is to enjoy a coffee while reflecting on the legend of Orpheus and Eurydice, gazing upon the beautiful Meriç River. The bridge is not only a functional piece of infrastructure but also a beautiful historical site worth visiting.
Aydemir A — Google review
I visited the Meriç Bridge with my wife on a Saturday afternoon, 21 June 2025. We parked our rental car for free at Polis Bahçesi Otopark, which was both convenient and close to the bridge itself. From there, we enjoyed a leisurely walk across the bridge, although it was quite busy with constant traffic in both directions. The walkway is very narrow, so we had to be extra cautious whenever vehicles passed by. Despite the crowds, we paused at the central pavilion in the middle of the bridge to appreciate its unique architecture and the tranquil atmosphere it offers. The Meriç Bridge, also known as Yeni Köprü or the “New Bridge,” stands as one of Edirne’s most iconic Ottoman-era stone bridges. It was completed between 1842 and 1847 during the reign of Sultan Abdülmecid I and features twelve elegant stone arches stretching 263 meters across the Meriç River—a major waterway that forms part of the border between Turkey and Greece. The bridge’s prominent central pavilion was historically used as a rest stop and lookout for travelers. Constructed from ashlar stone, the central arch is notably higher than the others, an architectural solution that helped the bridge withstand floods and allow river navigation, reflecting the advanced engineering of the Ottoman era. From the middle of the bridge, we enjoyed beautiful panoramic views of the Meriç River, including the marked rowing lanes, and observed several anglers fishing at both ends. The area is particularly popular for photography, especially around sunset when the river and the city are bathed in golden light. Meriç Bridge serves as both a cultural and architectural landmark, connecting the city center to the historic Karaağaç district, which is home to the old train station and Lausanne Monument. Its riverside location makes it a favorite setting for local festivals and public gatherings, and it is often featured in postcards and paintings of Edirne. Locals even refer to the bridge as a “gateway to Europe” because of its strategic position on the route to Greece. During the Ottoman period, the bridge and its surroundings were popular picnic and leisure spots for both citizens and dignitaries, a tradition that continues today. Another unique aspect of the Meriç Bridge is the natural environment that surrounds it. The riverbanks are habitats for various bird species and turtles, making it an unexpectedly good spot for casual birdwatching in addition to sightseeing. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our walk across this historic bridge and found the experience memorable. The setting is undeniably beautiful and photogenic, the atmosphere vibrant with both locals and tourists, and the structure itself an impressive example of Ottoman civil engineering. I especially recommend visiting in the late afternoon for the best light and fewer crowds. However, future visitors should be aware that the bridge can get crowded, and the walkway is very narrow, so it may not feel entirely safe or peaceful during busy times. Additional signage about the bridge’s history would enhance the visitor experience, and some areas could benefit from more regular maintenance. Despite these minor issues, Meriç Bridge remains one of Edirne’s must-see attractions—rich in history, beauty, and local culture.

Have a bite and drink in the riverside with beautiful view of bridge and Sunset. Loved the place. Near to world's largest frying pan 🥘. 🌉 🌇

This bridge spans the Meric River with elegant Ottoman stone arches. Sunsets paint the structure gold against flowing water. Locals stroll across daily, kids fish below. Nearby cafes serve strong tea and simit. History lingers in every curve. Worth the walk for photos and quiet vibes.

The Meriç Bridge, also known as the Maritsa Bridge, is a historic Ottoman bridge located in Edirne, spanning the Meriç River (known in antiquity as the Hebros or Maritsa River). It was commissioned during the reign of Sultan Abdülmecid I and constructed between 1842 and 1847. The bridge is approximately 263 meters long and consists of 13 graceful stone arches, built with finely cut stone. At its center stands a small pavilion with a dome, used historically as a lookout or resting spot. Beyond its functional role as a connector between Edirne and the western Balkans, the Meriç Bridge is admired for its elegant Ottoman architecture and scenic location. Especially at sunset, it offers breathtaking views as the light reflects off the calm waters of the river, making it a favorite spot for photographers and visitors alike. Today, it remains a vital landmark in Edirne, symbolizing the city’s rich architectural and historical heritage.

Burmalı (Three Balconies) Mosque

Burmalı (Three Balconies) Mosque, also known as Uc Serefeli Mosque, is a stunning 15th-century architectural marvel located in Edirne, Turkey. Commissioned by Sultan Murad II and completed in 1447, this mosque stands out with its unique design featuring three minarets with balconies. It was once the largest mosque in the Ottoman Empire and is renowned for its ornate domes and soaring minarets.
This place also should be in your list of visiting places in Edirne. These are very wonderful. Also let me write the name of place in Turkish which is better to write like this but the same meaning in English. Üç Şerefeli Mosque was built in 1447 by Sultan Murat II and is most noteworthy for its mismatched minarets. Three of these are beautifully ornate with patterns of red and white stone. The largest of these has the three namesake balconies and is absolutely massive.
Umed S — Google review
Since the main mosque in Edirne was closed due to construction during our visit, this was a great alternative with very few visitors.
Anna — Google review
Very beautiful mosque with very beautiful architecture, it has its significance due to the Minaret with the three balconies unlike the other three, also the dome from inside is very nice and well decorated and it’s located in the heart of the old city near all the other important places, i recommend visiting it.
Abdulrahman Q — Google review
The Üç Şerefeli Mosque (literally “Mosque of Three Balconies”) is a landmark Ottoman mosque located in the city of Edirne, Turkey. Commissioned by Sultan Murad II, its construction began in 1437 and was completed in 1447, making it one of the most significant examples of early Ottoman architecture. The mosque is named after its most famous minaret, which features three balconies (şerefe)—each accessible by a separate internal staircase, a unique innovation at the time. It was the tallest minaret in the Ottoman Empire when built and set a precedent for later monumental mosques. Architecturally, the mosque represents a transitional phase between Seljuk-inspired styles and the grand classical form perfected by Mimar Sinan in the 16th century. It features a large central dome, elegant courtyard, and four distinct minarets, each with a different design. The Üç Şerefeli Mosque not only reflects the architectural ambitions of the Ottoman state in the mid-15th century but also stands as a symbol of Edirne’s former role as the empire’s capital before the conquest of Constantinople.
Yahya — Google review
Beautiful medium sized mosque. Great outdoor garden. Adding uplights will highlight the beautiful Islamic art decorations under the dome, it’s very dark even during the day.

As a person who hates crowd, that's the reason why I deleted a star. It is crowded as hell, especially at the weekend. And the reason for other star is that it's really expensive. All shops are focused on foreigner customers and they are not thinking how a Turk could buy something with that prices. But it is well designed and historical.
Metin Y — Google review
Just a shopping center. Look almost similar to istanbul grand bazaar but just on one straight line and nothing really interesting like grand bazaar.
Mohamed N — Google review
Very lovely and historical bazaar. A lot of little shops are located there. Also you can buy handmade plates, cups, candle holders with lovely and typical turkish designs on them. As well you can find a variety of Turkish sweets.

Not as big as kapalicarsi in Istanbul, but its very nostalgic
Felix S — Google review
It is one of the places here that tottaly says "This is Turkey!". You can walk through and look through different stuff to buy. There are all kinds of shops selling clothing, shoes, herbs, instruments, jewelry, gifts you can bring home if you are a tourist and who knows what else! It even includes a few pet shops.
Hanna V — Google review
This old covered market has been built by Mimar Sinan in the 16th century. It can be considered similar to the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul. It is well preserved. By size, it's much smaller, but it is one of the best spots in the city. You can find many shops providing a various range of items.
Dimitris P — Google review
If you want to pay until the double of the normal price, do not receive a receipt or warranty, then buy gold in the Grand Bazaar of Edirne ! Some sellers are waiting for days for a naive tourist and they give the blow by selling them at a higher price with up to 100% gold jewelry! If you are a very good merchant and you have time to lose, you can hope to pay only 30-50% more than the corect price!

The Complex Of Bayezid II Health Museum, located in a historic complex, offers a fascinating insight into ancient medicine and treatment. It is the only museum that truly represents an Ottoman Darussifa today, highlighting the significance of hospitals in medical history. The museum brings to life the 15th-century medical madrasa and course environment with lifelike mannequins, shedding light on lesser-known aspects of medical education during that time.
Very interesting site, about a health advanced school, one of the most important in middle ages..
Robert E — Google review
The Complex of Bayezid II Health Museum in Edirne really impressed me with how advanced and thoughtful it was for its time. Originally built in the late 15th century as part of the Bayezid II Mosque complex, it served as a hospital and medical school. What I found fascinating was how they treated both physical and mental illnesses using a mix of music therapy, water sounds, and herbal remedies. The architecture is beautiful, with serene courtyards and domed rooms that create a peaceful atmosphere. Visiting the museum gave me a new appreciation for how holistic and humane healthcare could be centuries ago.
Arlind S — Google review
Awesome place, beautiful architecture, historical. The missing star is for restrooms present, but locked up (on a buzzy Sunday!!)

This place is very much worth the admission fee and a great place to visit in your Edirne visit. It had ample signs with both Turkish and English descriptions. Everything was thoughtfully set up and it felt like a great museum experience as good as those I’ve had back home in US. The building itself and the history is just magnificent and leaves a great impression on you

Karaağaç Train Station, also known as Edirne Station until 1971, is a historic railway station located 4 km southwest of Edirne. It now houses Trakya University's Faculty of Fine Arts. The station has a rich history dating back to the construction of the railway to Vienna in 1868. Today, it offers visitors a glimpse into the past with its well-preserved old railway and vintage trains.
nice place for a trip from nearby Edirne. A former railway station which today has been turned into a university
Drazen R — Google review
You can visit if you want to see an old train, but it is a very neglected and rusty locomotive. You could easily hurt yourself if you try to climb it. It has a large monument and a museum. I have been there twice but could not get inside the museum. The monument offers decent photo opportunities if you are into that kind of thing.
Çağrı Y — Google review
The only university in Edirne Trakya University and it's publicly open but until 18:00 if you are 5 minutes late, security doesn't allow you to enter like us unfortunately, but We came for the second time and it's actually my second in the Trakya University. It's a very good with old railway 🚂 and pair of trains of course which used a 100 years ago. This place was the last station before getting into Europe. Also borders with Greece are very close to this place less than 1 kilometers and there're wall 🧱 in the borders. If you come to Edirne you must visit this place, by the way there are a lot of foreigners from bordering countries like Greece and Bulgaria and in the streets you may see some stores written in those languages.
Umed S — Google review
The Karaağaç station (Turkish: Karaağaç Garı) or before 1971 Edirne station (Turkish: Edirne Garı) was the name of the former railway station in Edirne, located 4 km (2.5 mi) south-west of the city. Currently, it houses Trakya University's Faculty of Fine Arts. In 1868, the Compagnie des Chemins de Fer Orientaux (CO), Orient Railway Company, received a concession to build a railway to Vienna, Austria via Edirne. In 1871, the line reached Edirne but in order to avoid building a bridge across the Maritsa River, the station was built in Karaağaç in 1873. Edirne was a former capital in the Ottoman Empire, noted for grand architecture, and in 1914 the larger station was built that stands today, designed by Ahmet Kemaleddin in the Turkish Neoclassical style, similar to Sirkeci railway station in Istanbul. After the Turkish Independence War, and the signing of the Treaty of Lausanne, the Turkish-Greek border was on the Maritsa River except the Karaağaç section that remained in Turkish territory. The line was used by the Greek State Railways (OSE) until 1971 when the Turkish State Railways (TCDD) built a line from Pehlivanköy through the city of Edirne to the Bulgarian border, and OSE built a short cut-off between Marasia and Nea Vyssa to avoid Turkish territory near Edirne. This resulted in the abandonment of the station in 1971. Following redevelopment works, the railway station building was converted into Faculty of Fine Arts of Trakya University in Edirne. Opened in 1998, the Treaty of Lausanne Monument and Museum are located next to the former railway station.

I've been fortunate to ride at this riding stables regularly in the summer. The setting is beautiful, with views over the village and surrounding hills. I particularly enjoy riding in the hills as the sun sets. The horses are responsive and have really helped me increase my confidence in horse riding. The stables are able to accommodate a friend with mobility needs who has been able to ride with assistance. Staff are friendly, with a lovely family friendly atmosphere. I highly recommend the stables, and would encourage others, whether confident or beginners/nervous to visit and ride.

What a stunning place for both adults and children! The staff is highly experienced, the horses are very well looked after and great with children or unexperienced riders. Riding there is safe as far away from main roads. If you don't want to ride, while waiting for your family or friends to return from their ride, you can just sit and chill on the terrasse overlooking the village and the mountains and be entertained by hilarious mini goats and other little friendly animals! My son (who is a proper city boy) loves this place where he can wander freely and safely! He also attended the kids camp last summer and loved having art classes, building huts in the forest, and of course riding and learning about caring for a horse. We can't wait to go back and enjoy some more fun time!

Definitely add KBS to your visit list if you're in the area. Lots of activities for little ones and adults alike. The farm itself is beautiful with breathtaking scenery. The horses are excellent, well behaved and so well taken care of. Riding lessons are informative and so much fun! Not to mention the other animal, rabbits, puppy zippy 💚, pigs and 2 incredible goats that think they're dogs. KBS is just full of good vibes, guaranteed a good time when you visit. Would give 10 stars if I could.

Very well preserved, magnificent ancient villa, full of exquisite mosaic. Many artifacts are original. The tour guide's lecture is thorough, informative, providing details about the villa construction, the owners, their superstition, their habits, the legends, the symbolic meaning of images of gods and animals depicted on mosaic. You'll be submerged in ancient times as all those mythology stories will take you in a fairly tale. Amazing mountain views from the villa and the panoramic tower. Well-maintained yard for observing the nature. Big parking; facilities accessible for all ages.

Villa Armira, gives a really good image of what life was like for a very wealthy Thracian family living during the Roman rule. Contains the oldest and best preserved Roman/Thracian mosaic in Bulgaria. Even features ancient underfloor heating mechanism, the staff were also very friendly and very knowledgable.

I recently had the opportunity to take a tour of Villa Amira in Bulgaria, and I can't recommend our guide enough! They were incredibly knowledgeable about the villa's history and architectural details, making the experience both informative and enjoyable. The tour was well-organized, allowing us to explore every beautiful corner of the property. Our guide was friendly and approachable, answering all our questions with enthusiasm. If you're considering a visit to Villa Amira, definitely ask for this guide—you won't be disappointed! Thank you for a memorable experience! Ask for Vesela great guide A+++

Go there to say hello for dead souls. Here you can see that our humanity has not changed. They had hopes for the future, believed that everything would be fine and stayed together.

Absolutely fascinating place! The Thracian sanctuary near Tatul Village, is a really unique place! It is very easy accesible place just 200 m away from the village or 15 km away from Momchilgrad. The sanctuary is a massive rock structure and its top is a truncated pyramid. There are a rock sarcophagus, a rectangular bed for the main altar, and a three-metre-deep well.

Wonderful views. One the famous local sightseengs, entiant historical. There is an entrance fee but you can avoid it if you go after the working hours. They were doing some restavration the last time I went but I believe they shouldn't cause it doesn't look as it was. Be careful with small kids as it's really high. Unknown from the tourists there is also a small "cave like" which we found by coincidence. There are no guiding signs for it but if you want to see it - After the old weapon go in direction behind the water well go in straight direction little bit on the right and you will see it behind a big rock. We named it The small womb ;)

The Samara Flag Monument stands as a significant tribute to the Bulgarian volunteers who bravely participated in the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878. This impressive structure is not only a historical landmark but also offers stunning panoramic views of Stara Zagora, making it an ideal location for photography lovers. The monument's grand design and massive sculptures evoke a sense of pride and respect, reflecting its Soviet-era architectural style.
This monument is huge! You don't realize how large it is until you get right up next to it. Very nice sculptures. I really enjoyed this. The surrounding area is taken care of well. Safe steps and no trash. Worth a visit.
Jon M — Google review
Not really something to see there and not well maintained. Also no English explanations. But a nice view over the city and mountains in the background makes the visit it worth.

A must do when in the city. Stunning monument depicting the Bulgarian and Russian uprising again the Turks. This is taken from a view of history at the time. Great views across the city, definitely worth the trip. Top tip! If you are planning on walking from the city centre go in a straight line, not the way a map would suggest. There are multiple railway crossing points in a straight line walk!

The Samara Flag monument in Staro Zagora is dedicated to the events of the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878 and the Russian soldiers who fought for Bulgaria's liberation. It honors the flag given to the Bulgarian militia by the people of Samara as a symbol of solidarity and support. The monument is located far from the city center, offering a peaceful and reflective atmosphere.
Alexey T — Google review
The Samara Flag Monument, also known as the “Defenders of Stara Zagora” Memorial Complex, is a powerful symbol of Bulgarian courage and sacrifice. Located on the historic Chadur Mogila hill in Stara Zagora, the monument was inaugurated in 1977 to commemorate the heroic Battle of Stara Zagora during the Russo-Turkish War of 1877–1878. This battle was a key moment in Bulgaria’s struggle for liberation from Ottoman rule. The design of the monument is striking—it resembles a large, billowing flag, symbolizing the iconic Samara Flag. This tricolor banner was a gift from Russian nuns to the Bulgarian volunteers and became a cherished symbol of unity, bravery, and resistance. The flag was fiercely defended during the battle, becoming a sacred relic of national pride. The complex features an ossuary at its base, housing the remains of fallen soldiers, alongside an eternal flame shaped like bayonets—an enduring tribute to their sacrifice. Visitors reach the main structure by climbing a staircase of 100 steps, each marking a year since the historic battle. At the top stands a dramatic sculptural group of six Bulgarian volunteers and a Russian officer, embodying the solidarity between the two nations during the conflict. With panoramic views and deeply moving symbolism, the Samara Flag Monument is both a historical landmark and a cultural treasure. It honors those who fought for Bulgaria’s freedom and stands today as a place of reflection, remembrance, and national pride.
Vieru A — Google review
Impressive monument, worth the detour. Its significance may be complicated now given Bulgaria’s transition from socialism, but you can still appreciate this monument as a historical site celebrating Bulgarian volunteer forces. Difficult to imagine the scale of this monument until you see it for yourself Note: Google Maps brought us to the back of the monument which involves a steep dirt path up. Best to go from the front, where there are steps leading up to the monument

Nice location, nice views. Access , parking and souvenirs are cash only. Toilet is near entrance at the bottom of the hill. i recommend to buy a map from the souvenirs shops, because up there is hard to find the exit .

One of the most gorgeous places in BG! But again you are seeing how the money from the European grant are somewhere disappearing! Not enough information when you are inside, no signs and 14 BGN for this archeological treasure, water and toilet only near the entrance, and few benches on the top of the heel! But again, the place itself is incredible!

The site is great. But we bought the map the woman on site sells, which we suspect is really old, and it doesn't match anything on the site. Don't buy the map! Research in advance and if you can find one, get a guide.

Worth to visit. A site inhabited from Neolithic times to the late medieval era and each civilisation left their footprints there. A lot more is to come, because the city is only partly discovered, but every year a new piece of the puzzle is emerging from the deep forest. To combine with Tatul sanctuary and Historical museum of Kardzhali.

Perperikon is a fascinating site with a lot of history and incredibly well preserved. It seems that it is still being investigated and the majority of people there when we visited were archeologists, very few other visitors. They have recently received some money so there are good facilities and some informative signs, hopefully they keep adding more as the site is massive. Entrance is cash only so be prepared.

The Regional Museum of History Stara Zagora is a must-visit destination for history enthusiasts. Housed in a striking four-story building, the museum features an extensive collection of archaeological finds spanning from the Neolithic Age to the 19th century. What sets this museum apart is its unique construction directly above the ancient Roman street, Cardo Maximus of Augusta Trayana, seamlessly incorporating it into the building's design.
A beautiful museum with a lot of information about the ancient history as well the last two centuries. Many of the exhibits are also accessible to disabled people. The staff and tourguide were very friendly and professional. İt was my first visit but definetly not the last!

A great museum with plenty of exhibits. There are descriptions in English and enough to read to get the jist of it. Set over three floors with the basement housing a roman road and pavement. Very low entry price and enough to do and see for a couple of hours.

Ice building. A few very interesting and worthier pieces. A lot of mistakes in the titles and the objects. Does not match. So if you don’t know history you will be lost. More about ancient and Rome period. No entry possible with ISIC or ITIC cards. So we are still disconnected from the world. At the end it is a must visit. But could be better.

Beautifully made and there are a lot of artifacts from which you can learn about our and ancient history. In most museum you pay the same tax, but you have much less items to observe. For example, in Stara Zagora museum there were 4 floors full of history, meanwhile most of the museums offer maximum of 2. I strongly recommend visiting this museum!

The Antique Forum is a captivating site that showcases the remnants of Roman civilization, nestled in the heart of Stara Zagora. Visitors can stroll through these ancient ruins without any entrance fee, making it an accessible destination for history enthusiasts and casual travelers alike. While exploring, you may find yourself pondering which parts are original and which have been reconstructed, as there’s limited information available on-site. A visit to the nearby Stara Zagora Museum beforehand could enhance your understanding of this historical treasure.
When i was here there was a play going on of the life of Tsar Kaloyan. I was very impressed by the performance, the stage design and the history lesson that was portrayed there.

Lovely! there is no entry fee and no explanations are given. There is only one good article (the wiki one in Bulgarian) found about this place. Nonetheless it's definitely worth talking a look. You can admire the communist buildings in the background, makes for quite an arc over history. Not clear what is preserved from Roman times and what is reconstructed
Klaus W — Google review
Great free place to walk around. Roman ruins in the city centre.
Paul M — Google review
Beautiful roman ruins, you can walk through the forum and there is no entrance fee. Problem is just that they erected everything and didn't make clear where the originals stop and the reconstruction begins. Also there is almost no information, you just walk among the place and have to guess what it is that you are walking on, if you aren't an archaeologist or historian. Good place to visit, but go to the Stara Zagora Museum first to get informed ;-)

Geologic Formations
Group of wind-&-water eroded stone pillars that look like mushrooms & stand nearly 2.5m tall.
I recently visited the Stone Mushrooms, and they were really interesting. The rock formations truly look like giant mushrooms, and it's amazing to see them up close. The site is easy to reach and makes for a great short visit. If you’re in the area, it’s definitely worth stopping by to see this unique natural formation. It’s a cool spot for photos and a nice break from the usual tourist spots.

Sweet spot right by the road. Do stop and take photos if you are passing by. You can also buy the water purifying rock called zeolit there in small packets. When added to drinking water it greatly improves the drinking quality. I love it.

The wine tour was amazing and spectacular. We enjoyed some sparkling wine along with some traditional wines from the region. The estate was recently build and has amazing wine cellar. The guide had perfect attitude towards the group. We purchased some sparkling wine and some of the traditional wines produced by Midalidare. I have to mention that during our visit there were some activities hosted/supported by the cellar.
Iva N — Google review
I was shocked to see that this winery glorifies animal abuse with a fake bear like this right after entering the estate. Bulgaria has an absolute horrific history of “dancing bears” that “were trained with brutal methods such as hot metal plates and painful metal rings through the bears’ highly sensitive noses and jaws” (FOUR PAWS). Ignorant onlookers walk by and think it’s funny to take pictures with this fake bear in chains, and a wine estate should know better than to encourage such behaviour.

I was at a wedding dinner and party last November. The hot air system failed at 21:00 and we spent the rest of the evening at 10 degrees Celsius. Sloppy organization for the price.

Did the wine experience in Midalidare. They take you through the brewing process and the facilities. In the end we tried 8 different wines (4 whites and 4 reds) and had a cheese and bites platter. The quality of wine is really good and it’s cheap.
Georgi M — Google review
Extremely disappointing experience at Midalidare Estate. The location is undeniably beautiful, but the service and amenities were shockingly poor. Our accommodation had no drinking water, no coffee despite a coffee machine, and not even garbage bags. Considering the high nightly rates and the absence of shops nearby, the least they could have done was warn us to bring our own supplies — instead, we had to make an unnecessary trip to Stara Zagora right after checking in. Dinner at the hotel restaurant was a disaster — food arrived after a 2-hour wait, orders were mixed up or forgotten, and the staff behaved as if serving us was a burden. We were there for a family wedding, yet the staff was disorganized and unhelpful, even refusing to assist a guest looking for a restroom for her child. The outdoor celebration was almost unbearable because the area hadn’t been treated for mosquitoes. No warning, no repellent provided, and when we asked, we were told they’d run out during a previous event. To top it off, despite being told checkout was at noon, we were woken to leave at 11 a.m. because the next guests had arrived. For the prices they charge — and with their claimed experience hosting events — the complete lack of care for guest comfort is unacceptable. We expected at least a basic level of courtesy towards the bride and groom, but instead got sour faces and indifference. I am sorry to say this, but I would never return to this place again.

Brilliant museum, well worth the drive out to see from Sofia. The museum employees were extremely welcoming and very helpful, they are very happy to take the time to talk to international tourists. The exhibition and history on display was incredible to see and read. You can get very close to ancient artifacts which makes the museum better than any other I have been. I will definitely be going back.

This may be a regional museum, but its collection is stunning as is the purpose built building! The Neolithic exhibits are excellent, then the artifacts from the Thracian Tombs are superb! What a treat to see them, but how sad to have the place mostly to myself. Making the effort to see this museum (and the adjoining art museum) is well worth your time. The building was purpose built specifically for these two museums and it does not disappoint. A Modernist design with notable marble everywhere, it was a collaboration among three architects that works well to highlight both collections. Which includes a not to be missed exhibit on the luthiers of the Kazanlak region. I had no idea that high quality string instruments are crafted here, that this industry goes back to the early 20th century, that many of the craftsman have studied at prestigious workshops in Italy, and that there are now over 30 workshops here! Include this museum in your schedule!
Martha C — Google review
I was lucky enough to have the Director of the Museum describe the history and meaning behind several different sections within the museum. History going back to 4-6 century BC. There is so many beautiful items from pottery to jewellery and some from the Thracian tombs locally. I really enjoyed this Historical Museum “Iskra”.

Excellent museum. Plenty of artifacts from the surrounding area. Not a great deal in English or Bulgarian for many of the display cabinet. This museum is very well set out and shows you the history and the process of the rose oil, with old instruments, documents, bottles for storage or for the sale of the oil, different types of roses, photos, to even the stand used to exhibit in Paris and internationally. It explains how the industry started, where it came from, its growth and what it is today. What I enjoyed the most was the video about the ‘Festival of Rose’ held yearly, that was fantastic. Makes me want to visit again just for the festival, and I will!

The Museum of the Rose in Kazanlak is a delightful attraction that beautifully celebrates the region's unique connection to roses. Whether you're a history buff, a nature lover, or simply looking for a unique cultural experience, this museum is well worth a visit. It's a fragrant and colorful journey through one of Bulgaria's most cherished traditions. One of the highlights of the museum is the detailed explanation of the rose oil extraction process. Interactive displays and informative panels provide a clear understanding of how the precious oil is distilled from the petals of the famous Damask roses. The museum also features a beautiful collection of vintage bottles and containers used to store rose oil, adding a nostalgic touch to the experience. In addition to the historical exhibits, the Museum of the Rose boasts a delightful garden where visitors can see different varieties of roses in bloom. This outdoor space is a perfect spot to relax. The museum shop is another must-visit feature, offering a wide range of rose-based products, from perfumes and cosmetics to culinary delights like rose jam and rose liqueur. These make for wonderful souvenirs or gifts that capture the essence of Kazanlak's rose heritage.

The only museum in the world, dedicated to the oil-yielding plant – rose, is situated in the town of Kazanlak. The Rose Museum is housed in the old building of the Rose Institute. The rose is one of the symbols of Bulgaria. The museum is a part of the Historical Museum “Iskra” in Kazanlak. In 1967, a small exposition was created, which was dedicated to rose-picking in Kazanlak and the region. In 1969. the exposition grew into an independent museum. Nowadays. the Rose Museum stores more than 15 000 exponents related to the rose-picking and rose-production in Bulgaria.

Fantastic place! Why is Buzludzha’s heritage contested? 1. Historical symbol of communism • Built in 1981 as the House-Museum of the Bulgarian Communist Party. • Embodied the Party’s power, ideology, cult of personality, and the “bright future of socialism.” 2. Decay and abandonment after 1989 • Following the regime’s collapse, the monument was closed and deserted. • In the public consciousness, it became a symbol of the totalitarian past that many Bulgarians wish to forget. 3. Duality of perception • For some, it is a masterpiece of brutalist architecture and part of Bulgaria’s cultural heritage. • For others, it is a symbol of dictatorship, repression, and propaganda, unworthy of preservation. 4. Political polarization • The left views it as a memory of social solidarity and industrial progress. • The right and anti-communist forces see it as a reminder of repression, lack of freedoms, and dependence on the USSR. 5. European context • Within the EU, such sites are considered contested heritage — legacies that cannot be interpreted unambiguously. • The goal is not to demolish, but to interpret: transforming them into spaces for dialogue about the past, memory, and lessons of history. ⸻ Contested heritage = tension between: • Memory and oblivion (preserve or demolish?). • Aesthetics and ideology (architecture vs. ideological symbol). • Nation and Europe (local understanding vs. European discourse on totalitarianism). • Commerce and ethics (tourist attraction vs. “museum of dictatorship”). ⸻ Buzludzha is not just a ruin, but a mirror of the debate on how Bulgaria and Europe should remember the 20th century.

The Khadzhi Dimitur, listed among the world's top 10 alternative tourist destinations, boasts a history steeped in political significance. Originally serving as the meeting place for the Bulgarian Communist Party, this architectural relic now stands in a state of graceful decay atop a picturesque mountain. The journey to reach the Khadzhi Dimitur is as captivating as the destination itself, offering a scenic hike that marries natural beauty with the anticipation of exploring a unique ruin. The building's current condition adds a layer of intrigue and character, transforming it into a must-visit spot for those seeking offbeat travel experiences. Its dilapidated state, rather than diminishing its appeal, enhances the allure, offering a tangible glimpse into Bulgaria's historical narrative. This juxtaposition of natural splendor and historical decay creates an atmosphere that is both haunting and beautiful, appealing to adventurers and history enthusiasts alike. The Khadzhi Dimitur stands as a testament to the passage of time, inviting visitors to step into a space where history and nature converge in a striking tableau.

Probably one of the most controversial buildings in Bulgaria, the Buzludzha Monument is located near the city of Kazanlak and on the Hadzi Dimitar peak. Because of its communistic origin, the Monument suffers from variety of problems, such as ownership issues, lack of preservation strategy, no vision for its future. While the construction attracts hundreds of tourists every year, and even though it is considered an architecture masterpiece, the Monument is in ruins and decomposes slowly. Be mindful of the strong wind at the peak. It could get chilly even in the summer. If you visit, you can also check out the Shipka Monument nearby, as well as the incredible church in Shipka village.

Buzludzha Monument

Cultural landmark
Sights & Landmarks
Huge saucer-shaped memorial opened in 1981 & now derelict, with far-reaching countryside views.
An incredible place with a beautiful view. It's a shame that the monument has been left to decay. You can't enter the monument. The road to the dump is relatively good.

We visited the Monument during a dull and cold day, the weather was grim and the wind was cold, though we had to walk upward towards the place after our bus was stopped for the car park was closed(occupied) by media production firm. Actually, it was only the saving grace part as we enjoyed watching actors in live recording scene while they were doing the feigned fight, otherwise it would be a disappointment.

Not much to be excited up there after a long curvy drive up the mountains which seems to have taken forever we finally got there only to find an old delerect massive building which once was!!! No toilets around no coffee coffee no tourist center to guide and give information but just that! Having said that the views from up there and around were so amazing no wonder it had being picked for such once was an amazing building. Its away from everything else and l cant seeit being turned into anything exciting for many years to come.......what a waste of resources!!!
ChiShamiso G — Google review
One if not the best monument I’ve seen. The building itself is huge, way bigger than I expected, and it’s beautiful. The views and landscape around arr stunning too, I suggest you go there and the roam for a bit in the nearby forests. I just hope the bulgarian government would protect the building before it collapses
Leonardo M — Google review
The ruins of an old communist monument. Very large and impressive and the view from the top of the mountain is incredible. The road is quite curvy but it was worth it.
Yaron Y — Google review
One of the most iconic Communist Monuments in the world! If you are interested in Communist architecture, urban exploration then this is a must do. The place is stunning as are the views. Entry inside the structure is not currently permitted and there is no easy way to get in but don't let this put you off. As for getting there it is quite difficult without a car. There is NO car hire in the local town of Kazanalak and no public transport to the Monument. I would recommend either car hire from Sofia and catching the many Communist Monuments and statues on the way. Or an organised trip which sadly only seem to go from Sofia. You can get a taxi from Kazanalak but this will be quite expensive. Either way go; you won't be disappointed, obviously a sunny clear day helps!
Paul M — Google review
For me this was the best attraction in the region as it is so iconic. Difficult to get to without your own car but I do believe organised trips are available. We went in October And the weather can be bad so check beforehand. There are a number of steps to negotiate so not really good wheelchair access or anyone unstable on their feet.
Kevin M — Google review
Visited the Buzludzha Monument—an abandoned but massive structure with a unique and powerful presence. Although you can't enter the building, just seeing it up close is worth the trip. It has a haunting beauty and feels like stepping into a piece of forgotten history. The views from up there are absolutely stunning and make the experience even better. Definitely worth visiting if you're into history, photography, or just want to see something truly different.

Winery "Zagreus"

Winery
Food & Drink
Wineries & Vineyards
Definitely one of our greatest experiences during our trip to Bulgaria in 2024. The winery is easily accessible, close to the main road, you can park easily close to the entrance. The wine tour started with an overview of the winery, the history of Bulgarian winemaking and a visit to their production and storage premises. However, the best part was our wine guide who besides entertaining visitors has been involved in winemaking. Huge thanks to Grozdena for making our visit so delightful. The wine produced at Zagreus Winery is really good, so we used the opportunity to buy some from the producer and take home. The wine tasting was in an excellent atmosphere as it is presented at major countries producing high-quality wine. It was supplemented by locally produced tasty snacks. To sum up our experience – the visit to Zagreus Winery really made our day!
Ainar B — Google review
We were a group of 3 visited in the winery for a tour and tastings. We just loved the tastings (they have such great wines!) and the tour so much, the view is beautiful which adds a lot of points to the whole tasting experience. And also, the guide was fabulous and kind. Definitely recommended.
Idan S — Google review
We had an amazing experience at the winery! Not only the wines were great, but the staff were extremely kind and nice people who would spend time to take you to the process of making wine, share the love for the wine and have a friendly chat about anything really. The views are astonishing as well.
Iva M — Google review
What a great tasting we had a this winery! Take it from a wine nerd: I can assure you that the Mavrud reds are totally amazing. Our tasting host Grozdena, who is also part of the winemaking team, is simply the best. She takes time, she explains the vineyards and the winemaking process and she is a very nice host. Also, she speaks french, which is nice. Un grand merci à toi Grozdena, je te souhaite bien du succès!

We had a wonderful wine tasting experience at the Zagreus Winery. The tour and tasting was very interesting, held in perfect English (or French) by Grozdena, with a special focus on Bulgarian organic wine from ancient grape varieties. We definitely recommend it and will come back again!

Thank you so much, Grozdena! The tour was absolutely fantastic, and it was a true pleasure sharing both the wine and the wonderful discussions about it with you. We learned so much from your expertise, and your passion made the experience unforgettable. If anyone is looking for a memorable winery visit, I can't recommend this place enough—it’s a must-see for wine lovers!

Fortress
Sights & Landmarks
Centuries-old mountaintop fort ruins with a restored church, plus a terrace & panoramic views.
Well worth the visit! Parking is up top of the hill and then you walk a few steps to the office where you can purchase tickets. Then cross the road into the fortress where there is plenty steps up. Visited on a very hot days, water is recommended. We managed to walk around and climb all the ay to the top with a 2 year old so I'd say kid friendly visit!

Bachkovo Monastery “Dormition of the Theotokos”

Monastery
Sights & Landmarks
Bachkovo Monastery “Dormition of the Theotokos” is a stunning Eastern Orthodox monastery located about 30km south of Plovdiv. Established in 1083, the complex features a colorful centrepiece, the Church of Sveta Bogoroditsa, adorned with frescoes by renowned artist Zahari Zograf. The former refectory also boasts beautiful murals.
Very nice meeting monastery off the beaten path. Very well preserved and maintained. We went at night yo avoid crowds, 30 mins before closing, it was amazing to tour completely by ourselves.
Carlos G — Google review
Beautiful small monastery. Excellent traditional eateries around it. It was a hot day in Plovdiv, but pleasant at the higher elevation at the site. 4 BGN to park right outside the walls and avoid the uphill walk from lower lots. It is probably hard to do this on busy days.
T V — Google review
Hi there! We visited this wonderful monastery and we enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere and the “Vecernia”(around 6 p.m). Located ~ two hours away from Sofia, it is attracting many pilgrims and it’s worth visiting also for its unique architecture and painting - typical of Eastern Orthodox culture. Bachkovo Monastery has at least two other church buildings in addition to its main one, its own museum and later on we discovered that it preserves a significant ossuary which can be reached in a few hundred meters away from it… So, are you ready to visit one of the oldest monasteries on the Balkan Peninsula, still active (with monks) and the 2nd largest in Bulgaria? :)✌🏻
Andreea D — Google review
Beautiful location, would have been 5 stars but the museum and some of the other rooms were still closed at 9:45am and no one was sure what time they were meant to open so didn't get to see everything I'd hoped. Well worth the journey anyway though.
Hannah G — Google review
Here, nestled in the Rhodope mountains, the Bachkovo Monastery of the Dormition of the Theotokos stands as a moving testament to religious tolerance and historical continuity. Founded in 1083, it has welcomed different cultures, survived invasion and change, and still welcomes visitors of all faiths to reflect, pray or simply pause. The stone walls, the quiet courtyards and the rich frescoes speak of an era when different traditions—Byzantine, Georgian, Bulgarian—and yes, even Ottoman-era coexistence left their mark. It is a place that encourages respect, contemplation and the freedom to worship in one’s own way. A truly beautiful and humbling site.
Abdulbaki K — Google review
A sanctuary of peacefulness. Some fantastic frescoes. We ate at one of the eateries on the street leading to the monastery which was below average. They all do the same thing and all look the same quality. Recommend eating elsewhere. But the monastery is great.

A nice monastery and the nature around and the fact that in the monastery there are the graves of two people that had a major role in preventing the deportation of Bulgarian Jews during WW2

Awesome exhibition, more planes that we have expected, that are in brilliant condition. Highly recommend!
Dmytro K — Google review
Interesting open air museum, worth seeing. Especially cool that you can go into the cockpit of a helicopter for an additional fee of 4 Leva. There is a real landing capsule of a space rocket Inside the museum building. However, the lady working there chased my husband away because he sat on one of the two chars inside. She stated that these two seats are reserved only for people who are signing their book, those with kids, or tired elderly. Altough there was no one else there to use them, she asked him to get up.

I was really surprised how good this museum is. Would totally recommend it.

Nice. Shame there aren't newer planes. Most of the planes have been repainted.
Daniel W — Google review
The crown jewel of the Plovdiv Museum of Aviation undoubtedly lies in its remarkable exhibit—the "Soyuz-33" descent capsule. This iconic piece of history alone is worth the visit. However, the museum offers so much more. With a diverse collection of aircraft and artifacts, it provides a comprehensive journey through aviation history. From vintage planes to “cutting-edge” technology, each exhibit showcases the evolution of flight. The museum's informative displays and interactive features captivate visitors of all ages, making it a must-see attraction in Plovdiv. With its stellar exhibits and immersive experience, the Plovdiv Museum of Aviation earns a well-deserved five-star rating. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Nick B — Google review
This was such a brilliant place to visit! We were really impressed by the number and range of planes on display. 12lv for a family ticket was very reasonable considering the quality of the exhibits. It's just outside Plovdiv airport - an easy trip from the centre.
Nicki B — Google review
Took two three year old boys who were very happy to see planes up close. It's an outdoor museum mostly with lots of previous Bulgarian airforce inventory - soviet equipment. Interesting place to visit for anyone wanting to see Warsaw pact era planes and helicopters, but also there's a small inside museum which contains a capsule from soviet space missions (which had Bulgarian participation), and some displays of the early air force (one of the first, if not the first in the world, to drop bombs during a war). Also, at the end, a military serviceman gave us a balloon over the fence, so that was nice. Good place to spend an hour and a half.

Aquapark Aqualand is a fantastic water park with thrilling slides, tubing, and a children's pool. It's the perfect place for families to have fun together or for adults to enjoy some excitement on their own. Kids under 110cm get in free, and there are various pricing options for others. The park offers clean facilities, lounge areas, and good food and drinks.
It was my first time at such a place, it was very fun for me. I tried 3 regular slides and the snake. The queue was fast. The food wasn't good as main choices were fries and meat, pizza and sandwiches, only junk food. Despite that we had great time. It is nice that you can go with your car, they have parking, but the tickets are kinda expensive.
Габриела S — Google review
Aqualand was the reason we had chosen to stay in Akvalend Hotel. We were happy we did this. It’s a pleasent place to spend 1-2 days with kids. Not crowded, clean, not so many slides or attractions but enough to have lots of fun and find something good for every age. Better food and drinks than in aqua parks in general. Would definately recomand it, if traveling with kids/teens and have time to spend one day in a water fun manner. 10 different attractions for a full day at an entry price of 25 leva / person (10 leva/person if you stay in the hotel).
Iulia M — Google review
What a place... a child's wonderland of water rides. But why no comfort mats for hire for the loungers which were very uncomfortable. Food there was expensive.
Maeve O — Google review
Very enjoyable water park, we were there several times already, the prices of the entrance are pretty low 20 BGN (10 Euro) per person. If you arrive in the morning, at 9:30-10:30, you will pay only 12 BGN (6 Euro). The food inside is also very tasty and not expensive. The kids love this place a lot as there are a variety of slides and attractions.

I am absolutely pleased with the hospitality... Lovely atmosphere, perfect breakfast Very friendly service Thanks
Lilly D — Google review
A very fun water park with not a lot of people. Reasonably priced and good for kids of all ages. The food is not the best: overpriced and kind of meh, but the drinks are fine. For only having probably 10 slides, there's a really wide variety: a half-pipe, a flush bowl, a rocket drop thing, several tube rides, a wave pool, and a kiddy land.
Matt H — Google review
Fun place to spend a hot day. The food is affordable and the meals are big enough. It's great place for kids as well.
Ekaterina Y — Google review
Nice, open and clean city waterpark. Offers free and paid sun beds, good amount of slides and no ques mid week. Only the cobra slide had a little que, 5-10min wait. No lockers for bags, so pack light. Pool bar offers drinks and food. I saw few people commenting on bird poos ect. You do understand it is an open water park and a pair of sliders is strongly adviced? We had great time there and will be comming back.

I recently visited the Vasil Levski Museum in Bulgaria, located in Karlovo. The museum is truly exceptional, and it was a pleasure to explore it and learn so much about this national hero of Bulgaria. I was really impressed by how rich the history is and how well the museum is curated. It’s definitely worth a visit!
Gabriel D — Google review
Please don't get me wrong! The place feels and smells amazingly nostalgic, and genuine. However, somehow I didn't feel the spirit of one of the greatest (if not the greatest) Bulgarians ever lived! The museum with its exposures is the best thing to see there. Only there you could "touch" the spirit of this remarkable person. I've recently been visiting the Geo Milev house museum in Stara Zagora. Man, that was an experience! You could literally touch some of his (or his family) belongings. You could watch a short movie that is running constantly on a screen. I'm sorry if I lack knowledge of Levski, but I thought that more of what he left was preserved for the historians.

You will be given the opportunity to gain interesting information about Vassil Levski’s home, relatives and deed. Here you can see some of his preserver belongings, letters and documents as well as read about his unique destiny. It offers a great chance to get closer to what was left and reminds of the remarkable life-work of the Apostle of freedom. You can try to look deeply in the great mystery of his life: how in those difficult times of slavery his strong character, perseverance, human stamina and determination never faded away and combined with his revolutionary ideas and acts turned him into the most significant person in Bulgarian history.

House museum “Ivan Vazov”

The House-Museum of Ivan Vazov in Sopot, Bulgaria is a unique and truly memorable experience. The house itself is a beautiful and historic building that reflects the architectural style of the late 19th century. The interior of the house is filled with fascinating paintings, furniture and decorative items that reflect the tastes and style of the period. One of the highlights of the house-museum is the library which is filled with original editions of the works of Ivan Vazov and other writers. There are also personal items such as pens, notebooks and letters belonging to the great writer. Visiting the house-museum is an opportunity to gain an insight into the life and work of Ivan Vazov, one of the most influential figures in Bulgarian literature. The beautiful park surrounding the house is also a lovely place to enjoy a picnic or just relax in nature. Overall, visiting the House-Museum of Ivan Vazov in Sopot, Bulgaria is a must if you are interested in history, art and literature. The experience is truly unforgettable.

A very interesting place to visit. The lady working there was very sweet and helpful when I visited. Even though I didn't speak much Bulgarian, she really tried her best to show me things and explain what everything was. There's also a combined ticket for all the museum attractions in Sopot which was very cheap especially for students.

It’s impressive how much this place has been maintained in a good way. I remember it as a ugly one, but this year it made a good impression. Take your kinds there and tell them stories about old times and made them think about how it all changes in comparison with nowadays.
Asya C — Google review
The museum was established in 1935 in the course of a national campaign to preserve the memory of Ivan Vazov in his hometown. Over the years, it has established itself as a key center for preserving the literary traces left by Ivan Vazov in our national culture. There are four objects in the structure of the Museum: Ivan Vazov House Museum, Girls' School, Ethnographic Center "Sopotski", Dyado-Stoyanova Vodenitsa. The museum maintains attractive educational programs, develops scientific projects, enriches and develops its expositions and is actively present in the public space

Lift Sopot in Bulgaria is a unique and thrilling experience that you won't soon forget. This giant elevator shaft leads up the side of a tall mountain, providing stunning views of the surrounding area as it climbs higher and higher over the course of the trip. As you make your way up the elevator, you'll see the countryside stretching out before you, and you'll be able to take in the breathtaking beauty of the Bulgarian landscape. The trip takes about 15 minutes to complete, and by the time you reach the top, you'll have seen things you never thought possible. At the top of the elevator, you'll find an observation deck where you can take in the sights and get a better appreciation of the incredible views you've seen on your climb. You can even take a short hike to the top of the mountain for even more breathtaking views. Overall, Lift Sopot is an amazing experience that offers a unique way to see the beauty of the Bulgarian countryside. It's a thrill that you won't soon forget, and it's definitely worth a trip if you're in the area. Whether you're a thrill-seeker, a nature lover, or just looking for an exciting adventure, this is one experience you won't want to miss!
Elica C — Google review
This is a very impressive mountain lift that goes up 1000 meters and the journey from the first station to the second station which is located about 1500 meters above sea level takes over 20 minutes. In the future two more higher stations are planned and then it will probably be one of the longest in Europe, if not the longest. The view from the top is wonderful and a starting point for several routes. The ticket price is cheap and the attitude is kind and friendly. The problem is that the elevator is only activated when there is a group of more than 10 people so it is difficult to predict how long you will have to wait. At 9:00 in the morning at the opening there is usually a group and then you have to ask and find out that you won't get stuck returning. Of course, there is also a descent path of about an hour.

What a lovely experience! This will definitely become one of our regular destinations. When we visited the weather was fenomenal and we could enjoy the full experience. The staff is very friendly and the facilities are recently modernised and renovated. The safety measures are in place. There is convenient parking and outdoor cafe area. This place is used by many enthisiasts who like to camp, do mountaineering. Once you reach the top you can enjoy breathing views. Truly magical place.

Good, but it's a little bit old. Very bumpy and it stops from time to time. The second lift to the top it's not working. Hopefully they will fix and refurbish it, because it's beautiful out there.
Blagoy S — Google review
The ride itself was very pleasant. However, the staff was not helpful at all. I have mobility issues and when i asked the staff if the lift can be stopped so that i can sit and stand up from the seat (not to do that movement while the lift is moving), I was made fun of. After the ride, I tried the Gelato ice cream. It was very delicious.
