Nice modern swimming pool with 2 kids sections and 2 sections with swimming lanes. The water temp is very pleasant, warmer for the kids and a bit cooler for the swimming lanes. The kids section has several play elements of which the slide is the main highlight. The pool also includes a wellness area for those looking to relax a bit. A shop provides all the necessary swimming gear, goggles, toys ect. Worth a visit as the price quality ratio is very fair.

A little bit noisy because of children, but the very positive atmosphere. Saunas are good. We enjoyed being there, thank you ☺️
Yana K — Google review
Great place to have fun in water. Very clean and large. During weekend it was quite full but during weekday for the first 2hours there were maybe 10 people in August. Good pool for swimming. Easy slide with time measurement so you can try to beat the record. There is also a pool outside but I did not try it as it was enough fun inside.
Gabriel H — Google review
Hard to say which star do they deserve. Pools are really nice and clean BUT there are so many people with poorly behaved children. I'm not saying mostly which kids but I think we all know. Don't want to be rude. But to them everything is alowed. It's really hard to be there with small kids. We really liked the pools but sadly we are not coming back to that crowd. Mit freundlichen Grüßen.
Liam Z — Google review
The pool and surrounding area's are really clean and the slide is fun (trying to beat the fastest time). But it was too crowded and so much noise that it was hard for us to relax (as parents) and almost no room for our kids to play in the warm water pool (where they can stand). The bigger pool was not that crowded but the water was pretty cold and too deep to stand.
Patricia — Google review
Publicly operated pool. Therefore the hours are perhaps not as long at the Kärnten Therme but the prices are way more reasonable. In addition, I find pool this much better with young children than the Kärnten Therme because 1) there is more shallow water space 2) you can almost the entire pool area from every point making it easier to keep an eye on your kids 3) you don’t have to wait that long at the slide
Markus S — Google review
Great facilities for swimming. While the slide is very nice, there are no other fun things for kids to do
Bogdan D — Google review
We were visiting the town and loved visiting here. The staff were really friendly and the pool is lovely. The outdoor pool in the evening is a real treat.

Hiking area
Orrido dello Slizza is a stunning natural area featuring a boardwalk that winds through a rugged canyon, offering breathtaking views of a crystal-clear stream. It's an ideal place for a leisurely one-hour walk along the river, suitable for families with children. Starting from the monument of a soldier and taking the path on the right is recommended to avoid exhausting climbs in hot weather. Visitors suggest bringing proper shoes and starting from the parking spot down at the sign for an easier return journey.
This was a really lovely surprise, such a stunning short hike. Best to go round anti clock wise to avoid the steep steps. Just beautiful scenery and the river was so clear. Good small car park by the cycle track. Only takes about 30 mins.

This is a gorgeous walk, although very down...and then up. Steep wooden steps take you down to the valley. Lovely boardwalk along the cliff edge. Ideal swim spots and a waterfall when you come back up the other way. Nice 2 mile circular walk
Juliette S — Google review
Beautiful hiking/ walking loop trail around the gorge. The entrance is only a bit hidden and you should look out to find it but the trail is well aligned. No tickets needed and free entry.

nice freely accessible path best done anticlockwise to avoid steep climbing. park at grass parking next to a green house, go past the house and follow the route descending to the stream, turn left and enjoy the scenery of an emerald gorge.
Tadej S — Google review
An amazing place! It was so worth coming here - a nice path and the beautiful waterscapes! Free entry. Just be prepared for many stairs (more are at Tarvis monument start), so some physical condition is a must.. Have good footwear as some parts can be slippery. The path is circular and you can start at Tarvis monument going down or follow the bike path and before you cross bridge go left down at the sign. Park at parcheggio di Bardi, it's free and a brief distance to both starting/ending points. I recomment visiting, it is really lovely!
T V — Google review
This is a hidden gem (and free!). It's a beautiful hike along the gorge, and the water is stunning! There's a nice variety of trails. We brought our dog, and there were a few steel grating stairs, which wasn't always comfortable for his paws. Keep this in mind if you're bringing your dog 🐶 To reach the Orrido, you have to go down quite a few steps and then back up quite a bit. The hike itself is manageable! There's a small, free parking lot. We arrived around 10 a.m. (Thursday in September), and there were still a few spots available. Wear good/hiking shoes, as the water and pebbles can sometimes make it slippery 😉
Melissa K — Google review
Gorgeous trail by Orrido dello Slizza, a lovely stream that forms rapids and bends in so many ways. The water is crystal clear and there are several opportunitues to get close and stick your hands in - it's cold! Delightful loop trail, I recommend starting at the Napoleonic monument!

Robert H — Google review
Beautiful view of the surrounding hills and mountains. Possibility of refreshments at several providers around the church and the path from the gondola to the very top of Višarij. In the small street there are also a few shops with various souvenirs. There is also a church on the hill, which says that this is the only landmark or place where nations unite and do not separate. They are right!

Kornelija V — Google review
An amazing place for weekend skiing. Less than two hours from the airport in Ljubljana. You can leave your car at the foot of the mountain at the free parking in Camporosso In Valcanale, where you can also rent a ski equipment. If you are looking for a peaceful quiet place, it is worth staying in one of the three small hotels on the top of mountain. During winter a gondola lift is closed at 16:00. From this time only a small group of hotel guests and service stay on the top. Silence, peace, amazing views. Priceles
Mirek T — Google review
The heaven on earth. There are cafes above the mountain where we can eat while enjoying the beautiful view of the mountains. The cable car service makes it easier to reach the top of the mountain. One of the best place for skiing.

Absolutely stunning and beautifull. I went there in the summer and now in the winter and I cant decide what is more beautifull. Its perfect for skiing, walking , enjoying beautifull view and good food. I recommend to everyone to go there in summer and in winter. There is cable car in Camporosso that will take you up. Sill under the impression of that beautiful place.

Laghi di Fusine, a stunning pair of alpine lakes, is a must-visit destination for nature enthusiasts and outdoor adventurers. Nestled in the quiet wonder of the Dolomites, these neighboring lakes offer picturesque views and serene surroundings. Whether you're an experienced hiker or just looking for a leisurely stroll, Laghi di Fusine provides an ideal setting to immerse yourself in Friuli's natural beauty.
Amazing lake to visit for a day or two. It can get quite busy during the holidays but with some patience you can still get it.
Federico S — Google review
Two very beautiful lakes with a lot of hiking opportunities. The trails going around the lakes to required sure footedness and good shoes, there are a lot of tree trunks and rocks/lose stones. Dog friendly and several options for food and drinks. You pay €5 for a full day to park.
Amber D — Google review
I visited the Laghi di Fusine recently and it was one of the most peaceful and scenic places I’ve seen. The water is unbelievably clear and emerald-turquoise — you can easily see stones and plant life beneath the surface — and the whole scene is framed by the dramatic, snow-topped Julian Alps (you get sweeping views of Mangart in the background). The loop trail around the upper lake is an easy, well-marked walk (about 2 km for the circular route) with benches and viewpoints where you can stop and soak it in. In autumn the trees are changing colour, the ducks glide calmly across the water, and the setting feels quietly majestic — a perfect spot to slow down and recharge.
Naresh P — Google review
Such an amazing place!!!!! I was realy looking forward to visiting this place and it was worth all the long way. You have to pay to park there, but it is an amazing place to visit. HIGHLY recommended. You feel like in a windows desktop wallpaper.
Jennifer C — Google review
The landscape is very beautiful and you get two lakes in one visit😍 I can defenetly recomand it!
Silviu G — Google review
We planned spontaneously to visit the lake and walk around. It's always beautiful in sunny days. Nice clean water surrounded by trees. From villach it took around 38min drive. There are three parking spots. One is just before the entrance and 2 after the entrace.we paid 5eurro to entrance for our car. We parked in just 50min from entrace. And enjoy nice walk. Even if you have one hour you would manage one round along the lake. If you have more time can visit both lake.
Jyotshna B — Google review
Amazing clear blue lake in the Julian Apls with great views of the mountains and greenery all around. Brilliant view of the Italian side of Mangart. There is an entry charge to visit the lake, it's not much but we didn't know about it. Parking was easy by the side of the road next to the lake. There toilets and cafés around the lake. The views are amazing. You cannot swim in the lake!! We didn't know and there are no signs saying no swimming. We had 2 police officer type people telling us and a few others to get out of the lake, luckily they were really polite and understanding so they informed us about the no swimming rule and said it's ok this time as it was the first time. We just saw 2 other people in the lake swimming so thought it was ok. You can rest a row boat and row on the lake which is a good option. The rowing boats were pretty but made of metal which didn't feel right so we didn't do that. Good for a stop over if you are in Bovec.
Gaurav G — Google review
It is a very very very beautiful and peaceful place!!! I took a train from Trieste to Tarvisio Boscoverde and walked along the bike paths to the lake!!! Almost like 10km!! Next time I’ll try with the bike! And I thought it’s forbidden to swim in the lake, but yes you can!!! I came for the NO BORDER MUSIC FESTIVAL! If you love nature, hiking, biking, and music, 100% recommended to come!! You won’t regret! But maybe bring some water with you, because the water from the fountain is not drinkable.

Lago del Predil, a 1-square-kilometer alpine lake nestled in a picturesque valley, offers various activities such as boating and swimming. A beautiful lake situated on the border between Italy and Slovenia. You'll find a small cafe in the northern area, where free parking is also available. Along the left side of the lake, there's a path that leads to the southern end, and along the way, you can explore a small, abandoned military fort.

The scenery is great, mountains around the clean water but it lacks benches, educational tables, maybe a coffee shop and even a restaurant. That would work like crazy
Kristina S — Google review
The stunning, mirror-like Lago del Predil offers a 1-square-kilometer crystal-clear swimming spot. It’s safe as you can swim alongside the shore, with many places to stash your belongings beneath a rock or a tree - wonderful for solo swimmers. The lake is located at an altitude of 1,000 m, which lowers the water temperature to 17°C during the summer. So bring a full wetsuit. Additionally, a nice coffee shop, Chalet Al Lago, is located next to the parking lot. For more endurance sports suggestions, check out @triathlontrips on Instagram and Facebook.

Campanile della Basilica di Aquileia

Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Campanile della Basilica di Aquileia is a remarkable structure with fascinating excavations underneath its foundations, offering a unique opportunity to explore several meters below the massive stone structure. The site boasts magnificent mosaic flooring, including a beautiful depiction of the rooster against the tortoise symbolizing good versus evil. While the bell tower offers a breathtaking view extending to the Grado lagoon and ancient city remains, it's unfortunate that it's not included in the ticket price.
Beautiful clock tower in the middle. You can walk around it but I was not allowed inside to climb to the top.

(Translated by Google) The tower was closed in March 2025 for various work, but it would be very interesting in several ways: 1) It offers a great view over Aquileia and 2) You can get to the excavations in the basement via the basilica (charged entry fee) and from below you can basically see the stone base on which the campanile was built. Unique! Einzigartig!

Kiara P — Google review
(Translated by Google) With its seventy-three meters high, the bell tower of the basilica of Aquileia stands out massively over the Friulian plain. Built by the patriarch Poppone probably in conjunction with the basilica or immediately after, in any case before his death in 1042, the bell tower had exploited the quarries of building material represented by the ancient buildings in ruins, in particular the amphitheatre. It originally consisted of a simple tower with a belfry and a low four-pitched roof. Over time, the reinforcement steps were added to the base (14th century) and, in the first half of the 16th century, under the patriarchs of the Venetian Grimani family, the bell tower was rebuilt. Finally, the octagonal lantern was built with the conical roof above, which still today completes the thousand-year-old structure of the bell tower. In 1962, the excavation carried out inside the bell tower brought to light an interesting stratigraphic sequence from the medieval and modern era, relating to the life phase of the tower. Furthermore, a further portion of the mosaic floor that decorated the north hall of the Theodorian cult complex (313-320 AD) was brought to light.

I didn't climb the bell tower but they tell me that the view is wonderful and extends all around until you can see the Grado lagoon and all the remains that have so far been discovered of the ancient city of Aquileia. Sights & Landmarks
Basilica di Santa Maria Assunta is a historic site, originally built in 313AD and featuring the largest floor mosaic in Western Christianity. The complex includes the Crypt of Excavations with geometric mosaics and terracotta flooring from an earlier stage, as well as the Fresco Crypt near the altar, housing faded yet beautiful 12th-century frescoes.
Highlight of the small town. This magnificent basilica, originally founded in the 4th century, is a masterpiece of early Christian architecture. The highlight is the stunning mosaic floor, one of the largest and most intricate in the world, depicting biblical scenes and early Christian symbols. The basilica’s long history, including its role as a major religious center in the Roman Empire, adds to its significance.you should definitely download the audio guide then you can really appreciate the the stories of the mosaics.

A cradle of our faith for my country. From here the misionary work went out to the east. Glorious holly place, with a lot of history, beautiful mosaics and old architecture. Cript is amazing with lot of relics.

One of the most important church seats in this part of Italy, also for Slovenia, Austria and Croatia. Basilica is build on the 1. century Roman mosaics, that were covered in 4. century by other level of mosaics. On top of those two layers of mosaics the present church was built. The Bell tower dated from 11. century. The three naval church has leather patriarchal seat. The crypt is full of frescos from life of Jesus and the life of saint Hermagoras and saint Fortunatus. You can admire early and fine early Christian mosaics. I liked the most the one with a turtle and the big one that represents sea with boats and sailers.

The Basilica of Aquileia is a treasure that everyone should visit. The mosaic floor is absolutely stunning, and the space around the Basilica is pleasant and relaxing. The frescoed crypt is also fantastic! Absolutely recommended when passing through the FVG region!

The Basilica is a beautiful piece of architecture. Majestic with a magnificent mosaic floor and ornate wooden roof. Also fantastic is the visit to the archaeological dig area below the Basilica where it is possible to see the early roman mosaic dating back to the first century a.d. The area surrounding the Basilica is also very interesting and kept in order.

Italy is a country of historical beauties and this Cattedrale is undoubtedly one of them. As soon as one enters the building is immediately overwhelmed by history: the view of the soffit and of the floors, covered by mosaics, is truly breathtaking. When admiring this church you can “touch” the architectural, engineering and artistic ability of our ancestors: these treasures have withstood over a millennium (even more, when considering the original layers dating from B.C.). The building basement is a surprise of mosaics and there it’s really astonishing how, through small tiles, those artists were able to depict amazing subjects, such as animals, faces and various objects. Just a small suggestion: the descriptions of the mosaics made on the handrails, has it is done, is not a very clever solutions, since most of the writings have gone.

The National Archaeological Museum of Aquileia is a must-visit for anyone interested in Roman civilization. Located at the Cassis Faraone Villa, it boasts an extensive collection of ancient Roman artifacts including statues, jewelry, coins, and household furnishings. The museum's expert presentation offers a unique glimpse into classical life through archaeological finds and writings.
Really enjoyed my visit. This museum, established in the 19th century, houses an impressive collection of artifacts from the ancient Roman city of Aquileia. The exhibits include beautifully preserved mosaics, sculptures, and everyday objects that offer a deep insight into Roman life and culture. The museum's layout and informative displays make the history of Aquileia come alive. Staff was nice and let me put my stuff in storage.

A true hidden gem of a museum—what a delightful discovery! I didn’t anticipate much given its small-town setting, but it far exceeded my expectations. For anyone who appreciates history and art, this is an absolute must-visit: bright, thoughtfully curated, and filled with remarkable artifacts. Just across the road, the Basilica is equally impressive, along with the First World War cemetery honoring Italian servicemen

Aquileia was after Rome the main city of the Roman empire, so there is much to see and in very good condition! You can by a 48 hour combiticket for both basilica and all the museums, bij the tourist information!! Not by the basilica! that's all on walking distance from the cheerful camping site! It is wonderful
Rogier V — Google review
An underrated and often overlooked site, we were surprised to find hardly any other tourists during our visit. At first, we thought there wouldn’t be much to see and that we’d walk through quickly, but we ended up spending 2–3 hours exploring. The place is full of fascinating monuments and artefacts, offering plenty to discover. Highly recommended for anyone interested in diving deeper into the treasures of the Roman era. There are also many English information boards, which makes it enjoyable and accessible for international visitors.
Hajnalka B — Google review
Great presentation of the life, customs, and luxury of the ancient city of Aquileia. One can learn a good bit about the city through an interesting chronology. The exhibition leads you to discover the Austrian origins of the museum (1882) and its first acquisition as part of the Italian state (1915), and is then divided into sections: public sculpture, domestic luxury (wonderful mosaics and ancient glass!), trade and crafts, coins and jewels. The collection of tomb inscriptions, housed in the garden and being re-ordered now, is impressive. Great conclusion for a day trip in Aquileia!
GLoi — Google review
Relatively compact, but still reasonably stacked museum that is poised to give one a multilayer insight into life in Roman times, particularly 2nd century BCE to 3rd, CE. Higher society art, as well as more daily objects are well-presented, and trade links covered through respective items. 2-3 hours at leisurely pace should cover everything - don't forget the 'accessible storage' area in the back, where more nuanced and less 'thematic' course may be traced.
Dan M — Google review
Great museum that was open later than we expected (7pm). We visited on a Saturday (25 March 2023) around 430pm. We spent about 1.5 hrs but could have spent 2-3h reading more signs. 3 floors inside + outdoor area -- unfortunately the outdoor area is under renovation so you can't tour the whole thing but you can still enjoy some of it. Signs in Italian and English that gave great insight. A small gift shop of mostly books but a few other treasures. Loved learning about the city and seeing so many Roman artifacts. It'll never get old seeing back into history & daily lives like this!

Parco Junior in Lignano Sabbiadoro, Italy is a popular amusement park offering an enjoyable experience for both kids and adults. Situated in the city center, it features a range of thrilling rides, games, and entertainment options. Visitors can purchase tokens for the attractions or opt for a day pass to make the most of their visit. The park also includes a 4D cinema with various short films, making it a great place to spend time with children.
The restaurant staffs at the park we visited were exceptional! They were incredibly friendly and attentive throughout our meal. I particularly enjoyed the cheeseburger. The burgers are beautifully cooked, and you can see the brilliant, coarse ground meat. The buns are sturdy and well proportioned, glossy and sweetened. The restaurant had a great atmosphere, and I appreciated the attention to detail in the decor. The family park is a fantastic destination for families to spend quality time together. The tickets are cheap and affordable .

Very nice kids park with many different attractions for different ages. Entry is free but each attraction costs at least one coin and one coin is at least 1-3 euros, depending on how many you buy at once. You can also buy a whole day ticket but it is also expensive for the whole family. One attraction is around 3-5 minutes long. But all looked nice, but the octopus was really dirty
Patrik P — Google review
I recently visited Parco Junior with my daughter—actually, we went twice! We rode every ride and played every single game they had to offer. It was such a fun experience. The park itself is clean, cozy, and beautifully maintained, with convenient bathrooms and all the essentials you’d hope for. We had a truly wonderful time together and made some great memories. That said, I do wish they offered more games and attractions. A few of them were closed during our visits, which was a little disappointing. Maybe it’s because the season is winding down—it was September after all. Still, having more rides and open venues would have made the experience even better. Overall, Parco Jr. is a charming little park that gave us a delightful day out. We had so much fun and truly enjoyed ourselves. I highly recommend it for families, and I hope to see even more activities available next season!
Inkahustler — Google review
Great value for money, I'd recommend it rather for smaller kids (3-7) since the rides are not very intense. Do not buy coins buy the card for the whole day and ride anything you want so many times you want. No entry fee, opened from 10:30 am till 10 pm. Also we didn't have to wait at all

Great day trip event we were there already few times and it’s like a must have every time we visit Italy. Several attractions can be used and everything looks save and sound on it. Restaurant is on a good pricing and not to expensive. Whatever they do in the burger it’s very delicious. We never saw the animation show, but we saw the participants train their skills in the park walking thru the crowd and I think it’s also good for the little ones.
Enrico ( — Google review
The park is really great for younger kids. All the machines are made so that younger kids can also ride them so they were perfect for our 2 and 4 year old kids. The parking is also free if you validate your card at the ticket desk .
Niko A — Google review
Great place for our 6-year-old son for about 2 hours. We bought 13 coins for €26. One attraction is 1 coin. Our son tried all the attractions alone. 1 negative point: the parking area was full although there were few people in the Park (11:30-1:30). Clearly it is allowed for anyone to leave their car in their own parking lot, the attendant does not care. Also there is a height limit, a car with roof box cannot go in (the area is not covered, so we did not understand why there is such a limitation).

Lignano Sabbiadoro completely stole our hearts! The beach is long, wide, clean, and very well maintained. The soft golden sand is perfect for kids, sunbathing, or just enjoying a relaxing walk. There are also great beach bars serving delicious coffee and gelato, and even sports areas and a lovely promenade with shops. The atmosphere is relaxed, safe, and friendly. A very beautiful place and beach! Here you can find everything you need for a good holiday: toilets, showers, and free sports equipment. There are few parking spaces at the beach. A parking garage about a 10-minute walk away and it costs €1 an hour. There are enough umbrellas available during the week. At the weekend, reserve one day in advance if possible. It then costs €20. Did not have the chance to stay overnight, but the wine tasting experience was great! We stayed here two nights. The location is excellent, close to several wineries in a quiet town. The room was clean and functional. The breakfast was plentiful with fresh eggs cooked to order. The hostess was very nice and welcoming. We found the bed to be too hard, but understand that can be typical of this part of the world. For us it meant less than restful sleep. We had a wine tasting on the last night. Unfortunately the person doing the wine tasting was distracted by something and appeared to forget us for long periods at times. Which was a shame because it took away from the experience. Because it is harvest season we could not see the cellar. Overall the family running the place were kind and made us feel welcome.

Grotta Gigante, located in Friuli Venezia Giulia, holds the Guinness World Record for being the largest tourist cave globally. This single cavern is estimated to be around 10 million years old and boasts impressive dimensions of 280 meters long, 65 meters wide, and 107 meters high. The cave maintains an internal temperature of approximately 11 degrees Celsius. Visitors can explore this natural wonder through guided tours that provide insightful information about its geological formations in both Italian and English.
Absolutely beautiful cavern. Our guide was wonderful she gave us plenty of time to take photos and ask questions. We bought our tickets online and was given a time to tour. We took the bus from the center of Trieste bus 6, very easy. They have bathrooms and a vending machine. The stalagmites growing up and the stalagtites from above are amazing. There are several stairs to go up and down. This place is stunning but definitely not accessible to anyone with mobility issues. This is definitely an attraction not to be missed while in Trieste.

Loved this cave experience! The photos don’t do it justice and the enormity is something you have to experience. The guide was great, she spent plenty of time speaking both Italian and then again in English. She was knowledgeable about the cave. Plenty of photo ops. It’s quite a hike down and back up but totally doable. It’s a cool, wet cave so take a jacket. I did call ahead to make a reservation for that tour about 1 hour ahead of time. There are places that impress you, and then there are places that touch you. Piazza Unità d’Italia is the heart and soul of Trieste – a square that doesn’t just stand still in time, but breathes with the history, pride, and elegance of generations. Facing the Adriatic Sea, this square is both open and monumental – a rare balance of grandeur and intimacy. Surrounded by magnificent buildings and kissed by the sea breeze, it’s a place where you instantly feel present and small in the most beautiful way. By day, it shines with architectural harmony and calm Mediterranean charm. By night, it transforms into something almost poetic – glowing lights, reflections on the water, and an atmosphere that makes you slow down and simply absorb the moment. Being here with my family felt like stepping into a painting. It’s not just a place to visit – it’s a place

The square looks impressive, the buildings around it architectural masterpieces. However, I didn't get a sense of the scale and spaciousness of the square. My wife and I visited the square on the closing day of the annual regatta (Barcolana). The entire space was filled with decorations, advertising banners, and prefabricated stalls selling food and beer. It was very noisy, crowded everywhere, but fun.

A beautiful place!! A huge plus is that there weren't masses of tourists so the square was really clear. The view is immersive!! 🤩 All the buildings look amazing. 🌟

1 | Piazza Unità d’Italia is the largest square in Europe opening onto the sea, its area is over 12,000 m². 2 | The square is definitely worth a visit and can easily be combined with a walk to the pier. We were there on a summer evening when the illuminated town hall building dominated the scene. 3 | The square is lined with numerous restaurants and cafés where you can sit down and relax. What surprised me was that most grocery stores close as early as 9:00 PM.

It is a big flat old stone dock. Great to walk once or twice, be aware that there is no shade in the 37c sun and little room to sit. It was enjoyable to see the Adriatic sea and look at any big ships docked but nothing else.

A beautiful big square facing the Adriatic Sea with 3 impressive palace buildings and a fountain. This is the seat of the local government for the city and the region. The square is used for concerts and parades and large civic events. Many famous music artists have played here including Green Day, Duran Duran, Carlos Santana, Iron Maiden, Garbage, Mike and Snoop Dogg

Trieste’s Unity of Italy Square is one of the most beautiful squares in Europe — a grand open space facing the Adriatic Sea. The view is breathtaking, especially at sunset. It’s home to some elegant cafés, including a very famous one, though the prices match the view :)

Cattedrale di San Giusto Martire

Cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
Perched atop a hill, the Cattedrale di San Giusto Martire is a stunning 14th-century cathedral that beautifully marries history and artistry. Built on the remnants of a Roman temple, this architectural gem showcases intricate frescoes and mesmerizing mosaics that reflect both Byzantine and modern influences. As you wander through Trieste, this cathedral stands out among other remarkable sites like the Serbian Orthodox Church of San Spiridone and the grand Synagogue.
Cathedral of San Giusto is set atop the central hill in Trieste. On the spot you'll notice ancient Roman ruins with several columns surviving. Beside them is this very interesting Cathedral dating back to 14 century, as well the Habsburg fortress above. In those days there were actually two smaller churches. Trieste people wanted a bigger, main Cathedral there, so great efforts were made to join them together, collecting ancient stones and building materials from that Roman site due to lack of funds. Entry is free and you can admire the magnificent mosaic altar inside. Paying are the crypt and the bell tower. Pro Tips: - Park your car in the Park San Giusto garage, take the elevator to level 0 which takes you right in front of it, - you can take that elevator even as a pedestrian (if you're not by car) to avoid the steep climb on foot - it's free, - beautiful views of Trieste town and bay from the square in front
Dejan B — Google review
This cathedral, perched atop the original Roman settlement, fuses two older churches into an architectural statement that commands attention—think Romanesque grit, Gothic form, and Byzantine mosaic finesse, all with zero entrance fee. Throw in panoramic city views and ancient ruins at your feet, and you've got yourself a monument that’s strategically placed.
Abdullah R — Google review
Beautiful church with a lot of history! The interior is quite stunning and definitely worth visiting. I attended a mass and there was a choir that sang so beautifully that you could literally feel the connection to God. I also went to look for a birth certificate of my grandfather and the priests and staff were incredibly friendly and helpful.
Jonathan C — Google review
Located on San Giusto Hill, a site with origins dating back to Roman times, the cathedral was built between 1302 and 1320 by combining two earlier structures. It features a blend of Romanesque and Gothic styles, with well-preserved Byzantine-style mosaics from the 12th–13th centuries. The bell tower, built atop 14th-century Roman remains, houses five bells.

Beautiful cathedral, next to Castle de San Giusto, worth a visit. No problem if you have mobility issue coz there's a lift from parking area and electric bus too.

It is always interesting when there is something unique in all these religious temples. Here you can see from the pictures that the dome has very interesting and not so common ornaments and design.

It was truly a beautiful and peaceful experience. The architecture is stunning, with intricate details that capture the rich history of the place. Inside, the atmosphere is incredibly serene, making it a perfect spot for reflection or simply enjoying the quiet beauty of the space.

San Sabba Rice Mill National Monument and Museum, located just outside the heart of Trieste, is a profound historical site that invites visitors to reflect on its somber past. Originally built in 1898 as a rice husking facility, it tragically transformed into the only Nazi concentration camp on Italian soil during World War II. This complex served as a grim location for the detention and extermination of thousands, including political dissidents and Jewish individuals.
Very worthwhile, thought-provoking visit. I had not realised the extent of WW2 history in Italy until now. The architecture of the museum is stunningly starkly done. Several respectful school parties touring. I liked the fact that the staff are strict on decorum during the visit.
Stephen O — Google review
It is a place of pain and sorrow. But it is necessary to remember. It is well kept and respectable. Needs better directional signage before entering.
Reuben A — Google review
A really good museum, telling the story from WW2 Nazi activities in Trieste. San Sabba Rice Mill was used by Nazi Germany to extinguish enemies and unwanted persons in the Nazi regiemes view. San Sabba Rice Mill contained a crematorium oven. Findings shows around 1000-4000 people can have need kolied at this site. Today the museum is telling the story from that time. The situation in the East Italian region in 1943-45. San Sabbatn Rice Mill is worth a visit. It can he seen as a mix of a museum and a memorial (church like) site where a certain dignity and silence provides good room for thoutghys and reflection of the crual stories in the original but gently rebuild site. The entrance is free. (Gratis)
Kristen N — Google review
Be prepared to bring handkerchiefs whit you because this place not will let your eyes stay dry. Free entry to the monument which guides you through the madness and horror of the nazi activity. There is a museum part and you can walk around I different parts of the former "police retention camp". Items, journals, weapons, testimonials and buildings remembers what can happen if madness prevails instead of common humanity. There is a monument of the former chimney of the crematorium.
Pál P — Google review
Not a light experience, but I considered it as a must, visiting the nearby. Free entrance (I took audioguide for 3 Eur, but even without it, the museum provides enough information in Italian and English). This is part of history, not so long time ago.
B M — Google review
An unexpected little gem. Another sad point of reflection on WW2, and how grim it must have been. It's not a very big museum and there is a lot of reading. For me the map of the transition locations across Germany shows the systematic scale of the operation that was being undertaken. In spite of being close to the town, people did not realise what was going on until late in the war. Entry is free, but a donation is welcome.
Owen T — Google review
This is a less known, yet very important site to visit. A remarkable monument of an era that should not be forgotten. For 2 euros only you can buy an audio guide which I really recommend to do so, as otherwise you won't understand what to look at and you won't have all the background information. If you get there by car the most convenient is to park at the supermarket's parking lot nearby.

St. George's Parish Church is a historical cathedral situated on the waterfront, boasting a clock tower and incredible panoramic views from the top. Constructed in baroque style during the early 17th century, it replaced an older church dating back to 1344. Visitors can view some of the lavishly adorned interior through a metal grille while full access is granted via the Parish Museum of St George, which also features catacombs and treasury items.
A beautiful church in a beautiful location on a hill above Piran. The climb is neither long nor difficult and you can even do it with a stroller. The view is magnificent!

Beautiful church! I love how it was made into a museum. For 4€ you can have your tour in the church and visit the bell tower. For me the church wasn’t as exciting as the bell tower was. From the top of the tower you can see Croatia on the left and Italy on the right, such a wonderful view!

Very nice church on the top of a steep hill/seaside. It has a typical Venetian style Campanile next to it. You get wonderful views of Piran from the church, only beaten by the “Walls of Piran” which are about 10 minutes further up

It's certainly the landmark of picturesque Piran. It looks disproportionately huge from any point in the old town, but it isn't too tough to climb to its top. The breathtaking view from top worth every bit of effort to be there.

Amazing views of Piran! Pay €3 (as of August 2025) go up around 130 stairs, and you're there. It's definitely worth visiting if able as you can see the point of Piran and the square.

St. George's Parish Church in Piran is the town's largest and most prominent church, dramatically situated on a hill overlooking the Slovenian Adriatic coast. It also consists of an octagonal Baroque structure with a Roman-age baptismal font. Entry to the church is through a small museum containing religious relics and artifacts. The church complex also consists high freestanding tower offering panoramic views of Piran, the Adriatic, and as far as three countries.

The central monument is dedicated to Giuseppe Tartini, a renowned composer and violinist from the area. Surrounding the square are historic buildings such as the Church of St Peter and Tartini House, where the composer was born. Visitors can explore narrow streets typical of Istrian towns and enjoy stunning views from the nearby Church of St. George.
Absolutely loved this place. It was the cleanest town I've been to not a piece of litter anywhere, lots of history, lots of bars and places to eat. It has a lovely harbour which leads onto a square where you can sit and just watch the world go by. There is a place where you can see 3 countries from, Italy, Croatia and of course Slovenia. Highly recommend a visit

Sights & Landmarks
The Walls of Piran are an ancient and fortified stone town wall with several notable gates, which have been renovated since the 7th century. The walls have undergone changes over time due to the city's expansion, resulting in the preservation of three different walls and seven city gates. While some areas have deteriorated, much of the original construction from between the 7th and 15th centuries remains intact.
Even though the path to the walls is a bit more challenging, the view is definitely worth it. Mostly narrow / steep stairs, not good for people with physical handicap. Good value for money. You can pay with card.
Janali X — Google review

Viktória É — Google review
The tickets were so cheap, we had a great view of the city from the tower, a bit small for tall people such as myself but nevertheless it was great
Bálint K — Google review
Best 3 Euros spent. Not only is it interesting to explore the walls of the former fortress that protected Piran from enemies approaching it from the landslide, it also has the very best views of Piran to offer. For an obstructed view it’s best to go to almost the end of the wall and be careful on the ladders and stairs, it’s easy to hit your head !
Andreas W — Google review
The Walls of Piran are the defensive walls surrounding the coastal town of Piran, built in the 7th century. Some walls and towers can be accessed for a small entrance fee. It also offers the beautiful panoramic views of the coastal town and Adriatic sea.
Kevin A — Google review
The wall of the city of Piran, known as the “Piransko obzidje”, is one of the most famous symbols of this picturesque historic town on the Slovenian coast. Its history dates back from the 7th century to the early 16th century, serving as protection for the town against invasions, especially during the Ottoman incursions and the period of Venetian rule. Historical Facts and Interesting Details The first phase of fortification was built as early as the 7th century and originally enclosed only the oldest core of the town. As the city grew, the wall was extended several times – the second phase was added during the Venetian rule (late 13th century), and the third and largest in the 15th and 16th centuries due to the threat of the Ottoman Empire. The fortification included three separate sections of walls and seven town gates, most of which are still preserved today. The best-preserved part, with towers, is located on Morgoron Hill southeast of the center, offering a stunning panoramic view of the entire town of Piran, the Adriatic Sea, the Bay of Trieste, and on clear days, even Croatia and Italy. The wall is characterized by Venetian Gothic architecture, later with elements of the Renaissance style. Visiting the Piran Town Wall Today The wall is open to the public daily, usually from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM (summer schedule), with last entry shortly before sunset. The view of the sunset over the sea from here is spectacular. Admission is €3 for adults, less for students, and children under 12 enter for free. Dogs are not allowed. Visitors can climb several towers, but should be prepared for narrow, sometimes uneven and steep stairs. Not suitable for individuals with significant mobility issues. Sturdy footwear is recommended. Legend of Piran and Experience There’s a local legend about the “Witch of Piran,” who was said to protect the town from enemies by conjuring up storms over the sea. Walking along the wall offers not only a journey through history but also unforgettable views and the perfect spot to photograph iconic red rooftops and the turquoise sea. Piran is considered one of the most beautiful examples of a Mediterranean historic fortified town, and its wall is among the most visited places in Slovenia – a must-see for lovers of history and photography. Portorož Central Beach is very nice and well kept, with plenty of space and good facilities. The sand and swimming areas are clean, and the promenade adds to the lively atmosphere. The water wasn’t quite as crystal clear as you might see on postcards, but still pleasant for swimming. It does get crowded, especially in peak season, similar to the Italian Riviera, so expect a busy beach experience. Jama - Grotta Baredine, located in Istria, Croatia, has been open to visitors since 1995. This karst cave offers guided tours through its 132-meter deep stalactite formations and five impressive halls. The cave is home to the human fish, a unique species endemic to the area. Visitors can also enjoy vintage tractor and pottery exhibits as well as an eatery surrounded by olive trees and a vineyard.
Nice cave to visit with all the family. The guides are really gentle and they provide a lot of interesting information about the site, also in a funny way for children too. We spent there about 2 hours. Next to the entrance there is also a good bar that serves coffee, drinks in general and sandwiches. The parking is for free, so you have to pay only for the guided tour.

Very interesting cave that goes down 60 meters. Lots of stalagmites, stalactites, columns and other mineral formed cave features. The guide was very easy to understand and funny. The highlight was the human fish (Olm/aquatic salamander) at the bottom. I was able to get some great pictures of it. There is plenty of free parking and it was easy to get to from Rovinj by car. There is also a cave museum as part of the entry and a café for food and drinks. Highly recommend.

Small, but beautiful. If you're in the area, great opportunity to take some very nice photos and see proteus in person. The girl at the cash register was wonderful, going above and beyond to orchestrate our visit (2 adults with a big dog that couldn't enter) and the formation of groups so that we can go one after the other with no waiting time nor overlap, so one person was with the dog while the other was in the cave, and neither had to wait for too long. My guide (Ana) was embodiment of patience and calm, effortlessly switching between languages and answering all the extra questions. Lighting showcases the best of mineral formations (a lamp strategically placed behind one of "elephant's ears", for example, shows a streak of red pigment within the otherwise milky white mineral). Steep and wet, not good for people on wobbly legs. Temperature inside the first 3 or 4 rooms actually a bit higher than the advertised 14°C; on a hot day it felt refreshing rather than cold. Plenty of parking under the shade of trees and large covered sitting area. Bar right next to the cave entrance, serves good coffee and real homemade lemonade.

Very fascinating inside view of a very deep cave close to Poreč. The guide takes you deep down in the cave where you can even see an old. A blind axleottle like animal that lives only in the deep caves of this area.

Grotto Baredine is a cave full of stagmites and stalactites. To enter the cave you need to join a guided tour, so probably worth checking in advance for the times of tours in your preferred language. There are approximately 270 steps down into the cave as you move through each of the five chambers with your guide. The cave is pretty wide, but some of the steps/staircases are steep and wet so care should be taken. At the bottom of the cave live two olm salamanders. Worth visiting.

The wine was fine and the bruschetta was decent. The place has a nice vibe, but nothing really stood out. An average experience overall.

The popular Torre Rotonda café and bar, with sweeping views of the old town of Porec, offers a unique atmosphere complete with tempting cocktails and delicious continental snacks. The friendly staff is happy to converse in English and welcomes visitors from all over the world.
Superb place if you want to have a cockail and enjoy the view of the port and the sea. We also loved the small, private areas inside - you really can feel its 600 years. The staff is super nice (thank you Dan for showing us the gorgeous Istrian gins!) Absolutely highly recommended place🌞

Great place to grab a drink in Porec. You get a nice view from on top of the Rotunda while being able to enjoy something truly historical at the same time. There are some nice Istrian specific cocktails on the menu as well as all of the usual suspects. It is truly unique. The indoor seating would be interesting on a cooler day!

Was in Porec for an event and decided to stay an extra day, and go explore the city in the evening. I saw the umbrellas on the top of the old cylindrical building, which looks like a castle, at the port and just hoped it was a bar. It was a bar and what an amazing place. The building is really really old, the spiral stairs are narrow and steep, so fun. Even more fun coming down them after a few cocktails, luckily they are padded in key places to prevent the head from being bumped. The middle floor has the bar and booths which are embedded in the wall, would be really cosy in the winter. We were there in summer so we went right up to the roof. The view of the sunset was amazing, the cocktails were delicious, we were served by a very knowledgeable waiter who helped us chose cocktails, and the service was fast but never rushed. We liked it so much we called some friends to join us and we ordered a bottle of champagne. We went to dinner in the town and then came back again for an after dinner cocktail, it was starting to cool down so the staff brought blankets to keep the girls warm. The drinks were a bit more expensive than other bars in the town, but I had no problem with that, if it had not been, I expect we would not have been able to get in because there would be so many people there. Do t go to Porec without going to Torre Rotondo for a drink ! !

Amazing old tower with great views over the town and harbour. Lovely place for a couple of cocktails in the evening

Bar on top of an ancient tower (?)! Whatever it is, it’s very cool. No food, except the delicious bbq chips they provide gratis. Very amazing views from the top and service is so friendly. Come here and enjoy the vibes

The restaurant with fasctinating views, friendly staff, romantic music and nearl perfect cuisine. We took tartar, it was amazing - they prepared it near our table to show the process. Nice experience, quite pricy though - we paid 40 euro for light dinner with wine and coffee

This tower was built in the 15th century by the Venetian authorities. Back then it used to have a military purpose (defend Poreč from the Turkish). Now it has turned into a café. The atmosphere is delightful, you can sip a cocktail or two and you have a wonderful view. What else could you ask for? I recommend this café to all visitors.

Venezia Lines

Ferry service
Transportation
Venezia Lines offers a hydro boat service between Venice and Porec, operating from the end of April to the beginning of October. The boat departs three times a week in May and daily except on Wednesdays in July and August. A one-way ticket costs 85 per person. Travelers have praised the exceptional journey, with staff ensuring a smooth experience and comfortable ferry ride offering stunning views of the Adriatic Sea en route to Venice.
I recently had the pleasure of experiencing the Venezia Lines service, and I must say it was an exceptional journey from start to finish. The staff went above and beyond to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for all passengers. The ferry itself was not only comfortable but also offered breathtaking views of the Adriatic Sea as we approached Venice. Upon arrival, I was immediately enchanted by Venice's canals, stunning architecture, and romantic atmosphere. Exploring the narrow streets, visiting St. Mark's Square, and indulging in local cuisine were highlights of my trip. Taking a gondola ride through the canals is a must, and the Rialto Bridge offers incredible views of the Grand Canal. I highly recommend Venezia Lines for an amazing and hassle free trip to this beautiful city. Venice is a destination that should be on everyone's travel bucket list, and I'll be sure to share my experience with friends and family

Overall a positive experience. The journey is 3 hours each way and it was swelteringly hot. That said the staff were very helpful and friendly. The guides did a full presentation on what to expect, what to see in Venice. They were both knowledgeable and entertaining. There were optional extras that they successfully sold to us. €20 for a morning transfer to San Marco Plaza. This was very good. We had seat on the open air top deck for good views and again there was full commentary from our guides. €30 for the afternoon transfer was more disappointing. The water taxis are covered so there is limited view. All in all we paid €120 per person 8ncluding the 2 optional extras mentioned above and on balance we do not regret. We saw Venice, had ample time to see the key sights, the organisation was good, everything ran to time. Thankyou.

The morning started well, the shuttle and the boat arrived on time. The services offered on the ship are overpriced. Two toilets for hundreds of people is not acceptable. The ship was delayed at least 40 minutes in Venice. By the way, the organization was fine in Venice. The first major problem is getting back to the port, those who didn't take a taxi were left on their own. After a long wait at the port, they informed us that there were technical problems with the ship and that we could not go back with it. We were without information on the way back. It took at least fifty minutes for a plan B, which was to walk at least 1.5 km to the train station, no water or other drinks were provided in the heat. Several of us were sick from the excitement. We had to go by train to Trieste and then continue by bus. Again, this was chaotic organization. We arrived home three hours late and missed dinner. We did not get what we expected for the original price, the two stars are for Venice, not VeneziaLines. It was a disappointment, we do not recommend it to anyone!

Appears to be a bus company masquerading as a ferry service. Our evening ferry from Venice to Porec was cancelled. We were notified early enough (morning of the same day) and offered a refund or bus. We took the bus so we could continue our travels without disruption. Travel time was only a tad longer than the ferry would have been. But we paid for a ferry... and instead got a bus trip which could have cost us a quarter of the price if we just went and did that in the first place. With 34 people on the bus I do wonder if this is the more beneficial way for them to operate. If not, and there really was "technical difficulties" with the ferry, it must be a very dodgy ferry because there's a lot of reviews to show this happens quite frequently.

The day before our departure we read the reviews and were quite anxious for our trip with Venezia lines, San pawl. But our experience was great from start to finish. We however, did not do the trip during the high season and neither the day trip from Croatia to Venice and back. We took the boat one way, in mid September, from Venice to Rovinj. No long announcements and sale pitches. Working AC (not to cold but nice to have a sweater). It was bumpy, sure, but what can you expect from the open sea, and most people seemed to enjoy the waves. The seats were comfy and spacious. Pro tip: Bring with you a sweater and noice canceling headphones (engine is quite loud). Great way to travel as an option to bus/train/flight. Would probably do it again.

Booked ferry Porec to Venice departing 7am 3rd June 2023 - Arrived in good time ahead of the 60 minutes check in closure period to find that the check in staff arrive only 30 minutes before departure, very early start not needed! Check in staff then casually informed us that there is no ferry due to a ‘technical’ issue and that a bus replacement service would be arranged departing 2 hours later than original ferry departure. No further explanation given and no apology offered except that if we accepted the bus alternative no refunds would be offered. They have arranged for free a coffee so let’s see whether we arrive in our planned destination, Venice on time…disappointing experience so far🤨 Update - Bus arrives to collect us and fellow passengers, approx 12, there are a similar number of others on the bus when it arrives, which ferry were they Supposed to be on? We are then told we would be stopping to collect other passengers en-route to Venice. So looks like a lot of ferries with ‘technical’ issues. Fortunately we are from the UK so are very adept at identifying when we are not being told the truth, Brexit has had some benefits! So the real story appears to be that there were not enough booked paying passengers to run three ferries so it’s cheaper to hire one bus for less than 60 people and pick up from three different ports. The ‘technical’ issue with the ferry is the simplest excuse to palm us off with. Can’t wait for the reply to this, no doubt it will be full of ‘technical’ non truths!

It was/is very very cold on the boat (Rovinj-Venice). They gave us blankets but the temperature is not pleasant at all, I have never been on a cruise where all people was freezing and can't relax 😥😬. You can have all comfort from other services but not noticed if you can't enjoy it at all.

My trip from Venice to Rovinj could have been a bit nicer, but the ferry was packed to the gills. The crossing itself was pleasant enough, although getting outside for longer than just the Venice bay but I understand it's due to the speed of the boat. The seats are a little old and could use a bit of care and attention. Definitely a few need fixing as I couldn't stop my seat from reclining. My return trip a few days later was better, with less people on board. There was a little confusion at boarding when the guy taking bags on board did it prior to VIP tags being put on. This led to one of my party only getting one of his bags off of the boat when the VIP people left and having to wait for his bags at the end, leaving him a long time in line for passport control. I missed our arrival into Venice as I was asleep but I understand that the door wasn't opened to allow people on deck. That said, as voyages go, when I'm heading to Rovinj next year, I'll probably take the ferry again. It was cheap, gave me time to sleep after a tiring weekend and got me where I needed to be at a convenient time.
