Theme park
Water & Amusement Parks
Amusement park
Puy du Fou is a historical theme park that offers epic, period-specific shows such as the Vikings and Ancient Rome. The park features astonishing special effects, including dancing horses, rotating castles, and Viking longships emerging from underwater. With jousting knights, panoramic cinemas, and spectacular dance sequences, visitors are in for an immersive historical experience. Celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2017, Puy du Fou continues to innovate with an ever-increasing amount of entertainment.
I had read about this park, but nothing can prepare you for what you’ll see – it’s absolutely stunning and unforgettable! If you arrive around 9 AM and get the skip-the-line upgrade, you can catch all the shows in a day. Be aware that the roads get very crowded (our drive from Cholet took about an hour). A good tip: bring some food in a backpack and eat while watching the shows to save time. Totally worth it!
Alexandru L — Google review
It has been an unforgettable experience. The shows we attended were of great quality, including the costumes and staging. I must point out that it seemed to me that the sound was playback rather than live, and the simultaneous translation was slightly out of sync in some shows. Of course, it’s impossible to see everything in just one day, but even so, it’s well worth the visit — highly recommended for the whole family.
Lucía C — Google review
Love this park. As a family went have been visiting since 1989. We have seen so many changes over the years. It never ceases to amaze us every visit. We have a season pass as we now live in the area, so far this season we have been every week, our family of 4 and their families are avid Puy du fou fans, the grandchildren absolutely love it!. Great options for food, coffee and snacks. Gift shops well stocked with various memorabilia and various artisan shops in the medival and viking villages. Fun for all the family and all ages with not a ride in sight! A wonderful way to immerse yourself in french history and appreciate the performers enthusiasm in doing what they obviously love doing. The cinecine is something else,a must see,indescribable....see for yourself.

As you will need to walk around and spend time to line up, a detailed plan is very necessary in order to finish all the programs. Every shows are giving surprises to the audience. Very impressive. Bravo 🎉
T F — Google review
This place was incredible, we booked last minute not knowing what to expect and it did not disappoint. A lot of the shows are quite close together so we did have to run to catch them but there are hotels so you could stay for 2 days and see all the shows in good time. As a theme park it is a little pricey but this was to be expected. Make sure you take some headphones so you can translate the shows!
Robotllamas — Google review
What a place! A must do if you're looking for a unique experience with a tint of French history across the time. The well equipped parc is huge, so make sure that you wear comfy shoes! Booking in advance is a must, and depending on the time of the year you'll be visiting Le Puy du Fou, you might face waiting queues before attending the most rated shows... I strongly suggest that you download the apps, that will help you to organise your visit. We managed to watch the best shows, keeping us time to visit the parc, the villages replicas and indulge ourselves at some of the restaurants as well. Special thanks to all the dedicated staff, you are doing a great job! We had a great stay and we'll come back for sure.
Yozhyk — Google review
If you don’t speak French bear in mind you will be some what left in the dark here outside of the shows. None of the signage show any English and the shows are obviously in French but you can use the live translation if you’ve got the app. The shows however are outstanding even if you don’t know what’s being said very impressive indeed. Worth the visit.
Fionn M — Google review
We spent a few days at Puy du Fou and were absolutely blown away by the experience. The quality of the shows, both indoor and outdoor, is phenomenal. I had visited the park as a child about 20 years ago and was already impressed back then, but what it has become today is on an entirely different level. The scale and sophistication of the productions are unlike anything else. From massive sets to special effects that leave you wondering how it's even possible, every show is a true spectacle. The immersive experiences are just as unforgettable and add another layer to the journey through time. The scheduling of the shows is incredibly well thought out. We barely waited more than 15 or 20 minutes between each performance. Visiting just before the high season probably helped, but still, the whole day flowed smoothly without feeling rushed or overcrowded. Some historical events are presented with a certain angle, but that’s part of the park’s narrative style. It doesn’t take away from the fact that this is great entertainment at its finest. We truly loved our stay and would recommend Puy du Fou to anyone looking for unique and breathtaking live entertainment.

business center of Terra Botanica

Event venue
Water & Amusement Parks
When it comes to themed gardens, Terra Botanica is one of a kind in Europe. With collections spanning from butterfly houses and tropical glasshouses to a 4D cinema that takes viewers into the world of dinosaurs, this park has something for everyone. The event planner business center here is well equipped, spacious, and tables can be a bit small. However, the food here is generally satisfactory aside from the main dish which was quite small in quantity and not very generous.
(Translated by Google) Magnificent place, at the gates of the Botanical Park. I was there for a two-day seminar, it was an ideal setting for our conferences and workshops: warm, friendly and equipped to work on site. We were also able to eat there and ate very well. If I had to do it again, I would go with my eyes closed. (Original) Lieu magnifique, aux portes du Parc botanique. Château d'Angers

Castle
Sights & Landmarks
Cultural landmark
Château d'Angers is a 13th-century castle located on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Maine River. It has been an integral part of France's history, serving as a protective fortress for the kingdom. The castle boasts 17 defensive towers made of schist and sandstone, creating an imposing exterior that contrasts with its inviting interior, including rose and hydrangea gardens.
Excellent! A superb chateau with 800+ years of history, hosting the vast and impressive tapestry of the apocalypse. There is a huge moat with ornate gardens in one part, excellent views of the river and city, superb ramparts and a multilingual audio guide that gives you the details as you walk around. There are internal herb and flower gardens and even a small vineyard within the chateau!
Ian J — Google review
We used the audio guide while visiting which was well worth it for the tapestry. Which is absolutely amazing. The rest of the fortress is worth the visit. The gardens are especially impressive
Carolyn H — Google review
Great château but more of a defended fortress. Well worth the 11 euro entry fee. Coffee shop, bookshop and toilets. Most areas wheelchair friendly. Apocalypse tapestry and exhibition well worth a visit. Parking nearby suspended for resurfacing.
Sarah M — Google review
Lots of things to see: gardens, ramparts, exhibits, the Tapestry of the Apocalypse and a surprisingly nice restaurant. We just got ice cream and ate in the shade, but plenty to do. I recommend the audio guide for the Tapestry of the Apocalypse.
Nate A — Google review
Big discovery - I didn’t know this castle. If you want to see how people leaves 600 years ago this is the place to be. The visit is around 2 hours long and I recommend you see entire place. Nice Apocalypse stamp , nice story , I was impressed by what people can do 600-700 years ago.
George D — Google review
An unexpected gem of a castle! Extensive ramparts. Amazing views. Very well-preserved and presented areas, with interesting historical information. Well worth a visit!
Máire K — Google review
Fantastic chateau, a must visit, super castle, lots of history, well maintained, good value entry. Tapestry is a must see.!!
James B — Google review
There is so much to see and learn in this castle with huge walls. Already, the Romans and Gallic tribes (mainly the Andecavi) had settlements at this place. The Romans called it Juliomagus . The Counts of Anjou built a first stone fortification in the 9th century, which was expanded and beautified in the next centuries. You should visit the former palace and large chapel first as there is an exhibition on the background of the large tapestry in the special building. There is information on the apocalyptic times when the tapestry was made, how it was made, and much more. The Tapestry of the Apocalypse is a masterpiece of medieval art woven from died wool with 25 different colours. Originally, it measured 140 x 6 meters, of which 103 meters survived and is on display. It tells the story of the final book of the New Testament, the Revelations by Saint John. The tapestry is divided into sections of 2x7 scenes with a larger image preceeding a section of a figure reading the Apocalypse. You follow the scenes in each section from top left to right and then from bottom left to right. There are remarkable details in the scenes, so you take your time to appreciate it all. Furthermore, there are some nice gardens on the walls where you can also have a panoramic view of the castle and the city

Bioparc de Doué-la-Fontaine

Park
Bioparc de Doué-la-Fontaine is a unique zoo located in a prehistoric sedimentary rock quarry, offering natural habitats for its diverse range of animals. Situated in Main-et-Loire, France, it is known for housing rare species such as black rhinos and okapis. The park's 14 hectares feature various animals like anteaters, zebras, snow leopards, Sumatran tigers, and gibbons.
One of the best zoos I've visited. Huge enclosures, lots to see but also thoughtfully laid out so you hardly need to double back on yourself. It was busy in the car park but didn't feel it once inside. Initially I wasn't keen on the fact that picnics aren't allowed in the park, but it actually meant most people left to eat lunch. This meant it was never overly busy as people were always coming to and from the park. The walk through sections were excellent and the whole zoo was very clean. There were often more than one viewpoint into an enclosure to give you the best chance of getting a good look at the animals inside. Would return again in a heartbeat. Tip: You can save a few Euros by booking online in advance. However, the queue for pre booked tickets took a lot longer than paying on the door, so consider if you want to queue for 10 minutes or so just to save 3 Euros.
Steve T — Google review
Amazing time, the bird cage towards the end was the highlight. Also got lucky and managed to get a good look at the leopard, no tiger tho :/
Ricardo B — Google review
Absolutely fantastic place to visit. Well set out and plenty of rest areas as it is a big place. Food available around the zoo and a restaurant as well .Free parking all facilities are clean and well kept. Great selection of animals and good habitat with plenty of staff to look after them .
Simon D — Google review
The zoo was very nice and green, lots of trees and vegitation. Also the caves are really nice, and the animal places are good for the animals. But there are not enough places where you can get something to eat or drink, and the places they have, are all closed or have only something to drink (and are very expensive) while you are not alloud to bring your own food or drinks. They can make their guests happier and earn more money.
Laura — Google review
Outstanding! The enclosures are quite incredible and offer some of the best photo opportunities I have ever come across. I would highly recommend this to anyone interested in wildlife photography. A++
G S — Google review
This is the best zoo we have been to. It is just the right size, the enclosures look amazing, and most importantly, the animals have pups and look happy. Do not miss the feeding!

Sights & Landmarks
The Abbaye Royale de Fontevraud, established in 1101, is a monastic city and Plantagenet necropolis. The abbey comprises separate churches and living quarters for nuns, monks, lepers and repentants. Currently serving as a venue for concerts, exhibitions and artists’ residencies, the site boasts impressive architecture and picturesque surroundings. Visitors can experience the diversity of its extensive history through exhibits on display at the abbey that are worth exploring for several hours.
It is a truly extraordinary place, I have just visited for the 2nd time, the abbey is so perfectly restored, no embellishments hide the stark beauty of this building. The tombs of the Plantagenets are on display and are an amazing piece of history to see. We stayed 2 nights in the hotel, being able to wander around the abbey at night was a fantastic experience. The reception staff and waiting staff in the hotel and restaurant were kind and welcoming. I could have stayed forever. I am so grateful for the constant work that clearly goes in to maintaining these hugely important historic buildings.

We super enjoyed the visit. Truly marvelous. The architecture is amazing. The art works are fantastic. There is a lot to see and explore. We get to see the final resting place of Richard the Lionheart and his parents. We enjoyed and finished watching all the animated films. Worth the visit. Highly recommended ☺️👍🏻
Maman N — Google review
A truly beautiful location. We went for the art exhibition of Glaston Chaissac and saw so much more then we had expected. The art on the other floors of the museum was beautifully curated and full of treasures we hadn't expected to see. We went into the Abbey and wish we'd had more time. It was so quiet at the end of the day, we could wonder and discover without having a schedule and plan. We came across some wonderful installations. I would have given myself a couple of hours to visit the abbey next time. You could even spend the day in the area, there were lovely looking bars and restaurants outside the abbey. Not to mention the vineyards close by to enjoy
Nicola T — Google review
Amazing set of buildings with a uniquely interesting, royal history especially if you are English or French. First a huge abbey with royal residents and burials (English King Henry II and King Richard I 'The Lionheart' (of Robin Hood fame, plus Eleanor of Acquitaine)); then a prison; now a museum and art/cultural space. Worth an hour or two.
Mark G — Google review
it was through Google maps indicating local places to visit that we heard about the Abbey. it was definitely worth a visit. it's now also used for concerts and events and that must be wonderful in such a lovely setting the terrace cafe was reasonable with plenty of seating inside and out
Pat W — Google review
Definitely worth a visit. Amazingly restored, especially considering its long history as a prison. A lot of great info about the history of the abbey and prison. Loved the modern art that was present as well. The art museum is also worth a visit. Very broad and extensive collection.
Hanne U — Google review
It was very beautiful inside and outside. A lot of posters with detailed explanations about the church and its history. Very nice expositions.
Anna D — Google review
The resting place of Richard the Lionheart and his parents, Henry II and Eleanor of Aquataine. As you walk in you see their sarcophagi and then can mooch around the beautiful cloisters and areas of the Abbey. The Abbey was closed after the French Revolution and reopened as a prison until the 1960s. I really enjoyed visiting and they do a really decent coffee in the cafe.

Château du Rivau

Castle
Nature & Parks
Château du Rivau is a medieval castle straight out of a fairy tale, boasting enchanting gardens and a delightful restaurant. Its historic royal stables, believed to be the oldest in France, once hosted Joan of Arc. The castle's rooms are elegantly furnished and adorned with an impressive art collection and rotating exhibits. This unique destination caters to children, artists, and anyone seeking an idyllic escape.
We found this chateau to be a little gem, which we stumbled across when trying to catch a stage of the Tour de France nearby. Unlike the grander, more well known chateaux of the Loire, it is uncrowded and has a distinctly welcoming feel. You get the impression the owners really enjoy sharing the home they have refurbished and brought into public view. We took a self guided tour around the rooms, which house many items of the family's contemporary art collection, alongside items you might expect to find in a typical chateau. The gardens are lovely, relaxing and well cared for & we spent quite some time relaxing in hammocks in the cool of the trees. We recommend the café overlooking the Chateau & its tasty menu - we hope to go back to visit the restaurant too! All in all an unexpected but highly recommended addition to the typical chateaux tour of the region.
F B — Google review
We only visited the chateau. It was really lovely. We appreciated the different spin with the modern art pieces all over and the activities for the kids adapted to different ages which we also enjoyed. Nice piknik and play area for the kiddos. You can easily spend a half day here. The inside of the chateau was small but also really original and beautifully decorated. Highly recommend if you’re in the area especially with kids.
Shelly D — Google review
Visiting Château du Rivau is like stepping into a fairytale. The mix of medieval towers, art installations, and enchanting gardens creates pure magic. Every corner tells a story, from the rose garden to the whimsical sculptures. The atmosphere is creative, peaceful, and full of charm. A delightful and inspiring visit for all ages.
Roberto S — Google review
A lovely Chateau visit with some interesting gardens based on fairy tales themes with some beautiful plantings. The Chateau rooms have some interesting art work and quirky. We enjoyed salad lunches in the outside summer restaurant which were reasonably priced, very well presented and tasty. Well worth a visit
Michael M — Google review
We thought the tour was worth it but it's not. It's just about the rooms and the restaurant but nothing else. We were a party of four and none of us is happy. Make sure if you think about going for a tour in the castle for 13.50 it may be dissapointing.
Pía H — Google review
Stayed here for two nights and spent a full day painting in the gardens. The entire experience was wonderful. We will definitely return, although next time we'll probably skip the dinner at the Secret Garden (it was okay, not great).

We came to visit because of the dress up hire and it was such a paradise for the kids. The gardens are incredible and the coffee was delicious. I would recommend to families.

Chateau du Rivau is a real gem and we thoroughly enjoyed our half day visit. We found the gardens super peaceful and full of hidden spots to find solitude (even with our energetic 3yo). The chateau isnt open to view but does provide an amazing backdrop for the gardens. There's lots of chateau in the region and the insides are mostly the same - Rivau stands out because the gardens are lovingly maintained without been too contrived. We enjoyed a delicious lunch at the courtyard restaurant. A perfect visit for families with very young children as the gardens have lots of imagination and intrigue. Be warned, the cobbles in the main courtyard make pushing a stroller impossible. Highly recommended and would return.

Sights & Landmarks
Château d'Azay-le-Rideau is a stunning Renaissance palace located on an island in the Indre River, creating a picturesque reflection in the water. This fairy-tale castle is renowned for its romantic charm and exquisite architecture, blending French and Italian styles. Visitors can admire the oldest surviving staircase in France, royal tapestries, and artworks depicting French royals adorning the walls.
We truly enjoyed the visit to the chateau. Paid parking lot is a few 100 meters away, but still convenient. Tour guidebook and laminated descriptions in each room also helped, but some of the furnishings did not match the descriptions. The walk around the property was also a highlight with the Indre River flowing high today.

This is a masterpiece among the castles of France. The castle is very beautiful, there is a picturesque park around the castle. Near the entrance there is a cafe where you can have a snack and delicious ice cream. Don't forget to look into the secret garden in front of the entrance to the castle grounds. In the parking lot you can find a place on the grass in the shade of the trees.

Azay le Rideau is a beautiful, compact, château, within a few minutes walk of the village. We had no problem parking in the Chateau car park, but it was the end of September. We had a lovely meal in the restaurant at a reasonable price. The visit route takes you to the top floor first, then brings you down. We were advised, by a guide, to unhook the rope on the second floor and not proceed to the top as the stairs are much more uneven and my sister walks with a stick. I continued to the top, but she, wisely, followed the advice. I have to endorse what the guide told us; for anyone not too steady on their feet, do stop at the first floor. The rooms are furnished; particularly the ground floor which makes the chateau very homely. It is not a grand or pompous place, you can imagine a family living there! The chateau is surrounded by lovely parkland, which we didn't explore as my sister had walked as far as the day permitted and we still needed to return to the car park. Unfortunately, we hadn't realised that there was BLUE BADGE PARKING right outside the entrance where you pay to go in.

So beautiful. Should come here to visit. It’s large, the light is very good to take pictures. I feel like you can take pictures everywhere in this château it still turns out to be beautiful

A wonderful castle both inside and outside, the entrance costs €13/person. The visit was during the week at 10:00, I think that on weekends or holidays the tourist traffic is much higher. We were lucky to have few tourists. 07.05.2025

Wow. Stunning château with moat. Great for photography and much more stunning than Villandry but the gardens are no match to them
Paul R — Google review
Beautiful, small, chateau with a lot of history and a beautiful setting. I also appreciate that most of the chateaus have something to eat outside. Rideau has beautiful gardens to stroll around or by wheelchair. I always say getting there when they first open is the best because everyone else will be behind you!

Lovely gardens and very nice chateau. Not too large so a stroll around gardens and visit inside is very pleasant without being exhausting. There’s a bistro onsite which does excellent coffee (rare in France!) and a very nice simple lunch including a couple of plat du jour. Service is excellent.

Château de Villandry, a stunning Renaissance palace in the Loire Valley, is a masterpiece of architecture and history. Built in the 16th century by Jean Le Breton, it boasts beautifully restored exteriors that showcase its original Renaissance grandeur.
If you come for nothing except the gardens, come. This was a stunning display of gardening for design and sustainability. Absolutely fabulous. Clearly the Château is old and requires constant upkeep. However, the art, furnishings, and gardens were just breathtaking. You can really see how people lived there. It was one of the best experiences I had touring the châteaux in France.
Erica L — Google review
We went in late September and I was nervous about the gardens. I should not have been. They were incredible. The fresh cut flowers in the chateau were works if art themselves. The history was also Interesting. And the art exhibit at the end was incredible, I would have bought every piece, if I was as wealth as the people who own chateaus!
Sara R — Google review
We visited four chateaux while in the Loire Valley and would rank them in the following order: Villandry, Chenonceau, Chambord, Amboise. The history of Villandry, its decay and renewal, was very interesting. The best and most obvious part though are the gardens. Meticulously preserved and maintained, they are some of the best we’ve seen in the world. You can easily spend an hour walking outside rain or shine.
Kyle L — Google review
Absolutely worth a visit, it's a short drive away from Chenonceau Castle. Unlike many other castles, it is still privately owned by the last family that took possession of the castle in the 20th century about who you can learn more during your visit. The rooms are nicely set, giving you a great glimpse of the life the castle ones boasted. The gardens are a sight in themselves but honestly you get the best view of them from the actual castle!!
Elana P — Google review
Stunning gardens, well worth a visit. We cycled to the chateau following the well signposted route along the Loire and Cher with our kids aged 7 and 9. You can buy either a ticket to see the just the gardens or pay extra to see inside the house as well. We opted for the gardens only which felt extensive enough to explore. There is a lot to see from symmetrical flower beds, fountains, a play park and a maze. We even stumbled on a tennis court which had a ball lying on it for a quick game of throw and catch. You can then work your way up the walls to higher than the main chateau building with fabulous views down into the gardens and over the surrounding countryside. There is a small cafe inside but also more options just outside the gate and nearby in the town. Car and bike parking is next to the entrance.

Lovely time at the castle and gardens. Could walk in the shade in the gardens ( very hot day) also art exhibition from an artist, loved it. Coffee and ice-cream at an affordable price at the front, also a restaurant but didn't go there. Space for the bikes at the front

Water & Amusement Parks
Futuroscope is a cutting-edge theme park featuring state-of-the-art 3D and 4D cinemas, motion simulators, and high-tech multimedia attractions. One of its newest attractions, Tornado Hunters, promises an exhilarating experience with a tornado simulation on a massive circular screen with special effects. Visitors can also embark on space training at Objective Mars or take flight in Extraordinary Travel. For younger guests, Futuropolis offers an interactive play area.
We spent two days at Futuroscope in early May and had a fantastic time. The park offers a great mix of high-tech attractions and immersive shows that kept everyone entertained. We especially loved "Le Voyage Extraordinaire", "Chasseurs de Tornades" and "Danse avec les Robots", each one fun and unique in its own way. Since it was early in the season, the wait times were surprisingly short, which meant we got to enjoy way more attractions than expected without wasting time in lines. The only downside was the food situation. Most of the food counters closed around 2 PM, and finding something to eat after that was nearly impossible. This might be due to the off-season, but it's worth planning around if you visit. Overall, it was a really enjoyable visit with lots to discover, especially if you're into interactive and imaginative experiences.
Jeremy B — Google review
What a great and different theme park. We didn't know what to expect as one of the kids found it on Google Maps so we went at 5pm the same day (cheaper tickets). It was really good. You probably need the while day to get round all major attractions, I think there's 22. But we went on loads and did most of the top 10 rides (according to Google searches and AI). Plenty of food and drink places and the Cique de Soller show at 10pm was worth staying on for. A fun evening for this family of 4.
Matt- F — Google review
This was an enjoyable visit, helped by being almost deserted in the first week of October. As anyone considering going will know its more about experiences than rides, and many were good. Some however are beginning to feel a little dated. The rapid progress in computer imaging means some of the older ones are feeling a bit low res. I'd be dissapointed with many if I'd needed to wait 45mins to see them. Your French needs to be fairly good to enjoy it. There is a wifi app that suposedly allows for simultaneous translations of many if the 'exhibits', I could never get it to work. The light show at the end was fabulous, and the food available in the park is amazing. No greasy burgers here.
Karl T — Google review
Best to visit off season when it is less busy. The park is nicely laid out and very clean and tidy. The rides and various experiences are excellent. Make sure you the show in the evening as it is a spectacular display for all of the family. The food outlets are great but perhaps a little pricey. The mission to Mars and dancing with the robots are incredible. In the dancing on you are strapped to a chair and thrown about even turning upside down to music.
Bernie K — Google review
Loved it. Really chilled. No rip off prices. The park and structures are beautiful. Less in the wY of big rides and more of the 4d type experiences but some of the best we've seen anywhere. Great day out. Heartily recommend
Liam C — Google review
Cinematic universe for all the family! Not the old school huge rollercoasters us Brit’s are used to and at first I was very confused where everything actually was! Most is indoor too. Lots of great Halloween displays. Food was expensive and not of good quality. We had lunch in the park but ate outside for dinner.
Cooper M — Google review
We had tickets booked in advance. We spent one day in the park from 10 am to 11 pm. We had a very lovely time. The park has been greatly updated, and it's very cool, focused on imagining technologies. Danse with robots, chausseurs de tornades, objectif Mars, and Bermudes triangles, were among our favorites. We had cutting line tix for 5 attractions, and it was greatly appreciated and valuable. Food options were good. Some negatives: the narrative voices on movies aren't very good and often out of tone. I used a bathroom, it was flooded with an inch of dirty water. Overall, we spent an amazing day.
Geoffroy L — Google review
As an 'adult' we had a grand time here. We started with an evening arrival, grabbed a couple of rides, supper on site & was ready for the evening show at 22.45 which is the highlight of the day. The following day we ventured back in for opening at 10 & didn't leave until 7. If you go during the week & don't speak French you'll have to look at the App (which is very good) to find out what all the rides are about. They all have a science or space bent. We were there on a Tuesday - loads of school kids - there is some 'soft' learning in the background. We queued for a few rides but during the summer I would imagine a fast pass would be required of you have no patience - mine was stretched to almost breaking point. Not all rides were open but there was enough. Lunch at lunchtime, very few options open if you don't. Ice cream is excellent & most but not all staff can speak some english but it's good to have some phrases under your belt. Evening catering starts in various forms from 6.30. My advice : go....there isn't anything like it anywhere. Think sci-fi mixed with heros. If you have kids, they are well catered for. There are hotels in site but we stayed off site. Comfy shoes - we did 17k steps!!

Cathédrale Saint-Gatien is a Roman Catholic church located in Tours, dedicated to the city's first bishop, Saint Gatien. This iconic landmark boasts medieval stained glass and royal tombs, with parts of the cathedral dating back to the 12th century and featuring flamboyant Gothic style from the 15th century. Despite being hidden within the city, it is a must-visit tourist attraction with a rich history of being burnt down and rebuilt twice.
Went to Sunday mass in December and it was a lovely service. The stained glass windows were beautiful and I loved being able to walk around and look at the statues and paintings after mass. Gothic architecture at its finest!

This place was very special and of course worth visiting when in Tours. I learned from my friend (local and history enthusiastic) that the walking nave around the altarpiece was usual in cathedrals across pilgrimage routes. In that way the pilgrims visiting wouldn't disturb the priest or service as much.

Château Royal d'Amboise is a stunning 15th-century chateau that seamlessly blends Gothic and Renaissance architecture. Perched on a spur above the Loire, it offers breathtaking panoramic views of the river from its well-maintained grounds, especially at sunset. Once a favored residence of French kings, it holds historical significance as the place where Francis I spent his formative years and where Leonardo da Vinci was laid to rest in the Chapel of Saint-Hubert.
Such a beautiful place with stunning gardens. Chateau isn’t the biggest but the views and chilling in the gardens was such a fantastic experience. We were charmed by the views. Even though it was already July, it wasn’t crowded. I totally recommend, along with a walk through old city.
Anna K — Google review
Amazing castle to visit when in Amboise. The large ‘square’ on top is very refreshing with great view of Amboise and the Loire. There is enough history in the castle to keep you interested during the visit. The chapel where Leonardo’s remains are buried is one of the nicest I’ve ever seen. The exit through the horse entry tower is a nice touch to the overall experience.
Tony M — Google review
Visiting Château d’Amboise was fascinating. The location on the hill offers breathtaking views over the Loire River, and the history of the castle is truly captivating. Knowing that Leonardo da Vinci spent his last years here makes the visit even more special. A place full of history and charm.
Mirela P — Google review
The Château Royal d’Amboise is a beautiful castle with a lovely view over the town and the Loire River. The garden is also very nice. However, the visit to the castle itself is a huge disappointment. There are very few things to see, and the management seems to have tried to make up for this with Virtual Reality. After scanning an image, you receive more information about the room and its former inhabitants. You then find yourself staring at a small screen showing various historical scenes. To get additional explanations, you have to click on different people — but the text is written so poorly (at least in Dutch and English) that it’s almost impossible to understand. In short, a major disappointment. Not worth the money.
Henk S — Google review
I loved this château. The displays were beautiful, and the paper guide provided a great overview of the site. The rooms were elegantly decorated, and although the garden was closed for some reason, it didn’t take away from a truly wonderful experience.
Steven D — Google review
Its soooo difficult to go there if you are on wheelchair. Wheelchair access is behind the chateau’s garden. You will need a vehicle to reach the gate and you will have to traverse bumpy cobblestone path. LOCATION PIN does not even work. It took us such a long time to figure things out. Wheelchair access only two floors. Beautiful place and great history though. just hope they figure out how wheelchair get accessed easier.
Vanessa A — Google review
Such a beautiful chateau in such a beautiful location that captures centuries of history of France and Europe. The entry fee for the chateau when compared to others in the region is considerably high and I'd suggest exploring other chateau such as chenonceaux, chambord, amboise and even clos de Luce before going here. The chateau provides a histopad and has deferred everything including all information to a digital tour guide. Some, likely younger audience would enjoy the interaction, however the experience had limited information beyond a few sentences on each area of the chateau. The experience was lacking when it could have been so much more. Exploring how Da Vinci was involved with the chateau and the kings, how did its use change over the years, why was there a decline, what role did it play in history, and many many other questions were not answered in my mind. We ended staying for an hour (perhaps a little less) and left feeling underwhelmed, such a missed opportunity to share the amazing history of the chateau with the world.
Justin M — Google review
Great place to visit with a spacious garden around the last standing building of what once was a large castle on top of a hill overlooking the river. The tour through the building is interesting, and there are fine decorated rooms. The two cavalier towers are spectacular with their sloping ramps that allowed carriages to enter the terrace of the castle. You exit through one of them.

Château du Clos Lucé, located just outside Amboise, is a small museum set in the former home of Leonardo da Vinci. The grounds feature working models of his designs and offer insight into his life and work. Visitors can explore the house where da Vinci lived for the last three years of his life, as well as an adjacent building showcasing his drawings and inventions.
Enjoyed visiting this interesting chateau where Leonardo da Vinci spent the last few years of his life. Touring this chateau gave insight into his lifestyle and how he spent his time with artifacts, models of his inventions, and interactive installations on the grounds. You could easily spend 3 hours or more here, especially if you have an interest in invention or engineering. Though this chateau is not one of the more extravagant or finely furnished, the site and grounds are charming with a lovely view. We thought the visit was well worth the drive and the walk up the hill to get to the entrance. Parking could be challenging on a crowded day. There is a small lot with free parking and a larger lot with paid parking next to it.

While a grey and drizzling day, this final home of Leonardo da Vinci is so lovely. Having information in English and French was really helpful. Da Vinci's skill as an artist and engineer were on full display. Being from Canada I am easily wowed by historical homes. But seeing da Vinci's tools just makes him come alive.
Sara R — Google review
Such a wonderful museum showing the many genius facets of Leonardo da Vinci. It's amazing to walk right into his bedroom, kitchen or studio! To explore the goblins and admire the kitchen ware, the fine glasses or beer mugs brought from far away. You feel that even the building and the atmosphere is honored and kept alive just through the beautiful flower decorations found in every room. The exhibition is extended into the scenery garden and makes the details in the drawings and paintings more interesting. You need at least two hours to explore the many details! Just look at Leonardo's handwriting. Amazing! Can't recommend it enough.

Beautiful castle complex. You have to pay 1 ticket to be able to enter both the Donjon Fortress and the Logis Royal Castle, other than that you can roam around for free around the medieval styled city and garden. The ticket is definitely worth to pay, while exploring the Donjon Fortress they'll give you a tablet called Histopad intstalled with a very interactive application to help you explore the fortress, with Histopad your experience feels like a treasure hunt (good for kids and adventurous people!) The chateau's architecture reflects the changes in ownership and circumstances over the years, from its origins as a Medieval fortress to its transformation into an elegant residence.
This was a absolutely breathtaking castle. They have a huge history both on who built it and who stayed there. They have audio guides and live guide tours and it is not that expensive. They have various gardens around including a labyrinth in the garden which is quite big. They grow their own vegetables and a large variety of flowers that they use to decorate within the walls of the castle. Very pretty. We enjoyed the tour very much.

Beautiful Château with a long history going through different Kings and different Architecture style as well. They have a light show in the night which explain a long history -> amazing experince to listen and understand more about that😉
Quỳnh N — Google review
The various buildings abs their history is interesting and the histopad gives you the information that you would otherwise not know by just looking at them. Although inside is mostly artwork with a few pieces of furniture, again the histopad gives you that extra.

ZooParc de Beauval

Outdoor Activities
ZooParc de Beauval is a must-visit destination in the Loire Valley, offering an abundance of family fun and wildlife experiences. This renowned zoo boasts an impressive breeding program for endangered species and is home to a diverse range of animals, including big cats, pandas, primates, manatees, koalas, okapis, and tree kangaroos. Visitors can marvel at the rare giant pandas - one of only 12 places outside of China to house this species.
What an awesome place. The free assisted parking was a great start, there was no chaos. The park has plenty of shelter from the sun on hot days and wheelchair-friendly paths, and there are plenty of spots to get a drink or food. Most of the enclosures are spacious and aesthetically pleasing. There is more than enough space to stop and admire the animals from multiple angles without feeling crowded. There are so many different animals to see that we absolutely needed two days to not miss out on anything. The shows and information were (obviously) narrated in French, but the pace was slow enough for me to understand a bit. The bird show was a bit overwhelming, you should definitely not miss out on that one if you visit the park. Be sure to bring your own shade while you wait for the show to begin, as there is none. We were cooking on the concrete steps in the full sun for almost an hour in total. The cable car was a bit of a letdown. The lines were long and not all cars have a transparent floor, which makes it just a lazy way to cross the park. Even if you do get a car with a glass floor, the tracks are too high to really benefit from the bird's-eye view. Don't forget to bring your camera.

We had a wonderful family visit to the zoo! My children absolutely loved seeing the animals up close, and it was such a joy to watch their excitement. The animals all seem to be in excellent conditions, with spacious and well-maintained habitats. It’s clear that the staff take great care in providing a safe and comfortable environment for them. A perfect place for a family day out!
CHIOUKH L — Google review
This is easily one do the best zoos in the world. Whereas in many zoos you would see animals and feel sad for them given their conditions, this zoo does not make you feel this. You will see many caretakers and staff who clean enclosures, feed regularly and perfectly adapted food to the animals at regular intervals throughout the day etc. Despite going there over a hot time, the animals were still visible, yet they all had a closed enclosure in a cooler area. This zoo genuinely loves animals, and you can see it. Their two spectacles with the sea lions and the birds were really great and shows even further the care they give to all these animals. I went there on a weekday, yet there was a fair amount of people, I advise going as soon as the park opens to explore it at its finest time.
Joe M — Google review
The most amazing zoo I’ve ever been too. The experience here was next level, all of th animal enclosures are spotless and well maintained, all the animals had enrichment and plenty of space. The cable car was a fantastic addition and of course the beautiful pandas stole the show!!

Downsides: •The entrance and food queues are very crowded, with long waits, and there aren’t many benches. (Food is not bad) •Also, if you come with a stroller or have mobility issues, be prepared for quite a bit of uphill walking. Upsides: •Beautiful place with lovely paths and lots of shade. •Even though it was crowded, parking was well organized, and the animals have large areas where they seem happy and well cared for. (The views of them from different spots are wonderful.) Overall, definitely worth a visit! ⭐️
Anna D — Google review
Very nice zoo, seems to take animal welfare very seriously. Overheard some other guests complain they 'did not see the wolves very well and the Parc should cut down the trees'. Actually glad they give each animal species what they need to feel as comfortable as possible. The zoo has plenty of small playgrounds for intermezzo's with children, there are lots of restaurants and stalls all scattered around, there's a big parking lot and queuing went very smoothly... The shops are nice but diverse. Definitely recommend!
Jana P — Google review
The best zoo I have been too - both in terms of layout and variety of animals. Easy to spend a whole day here. Food options are numerous. Well worth a visit.

Great little zoo, bring your walking boots and be prepared for steep inclines. Made it round the whole zoo in a day. Highlights for us were the Giant Pandas, Koalas, Hippos and Manatee. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area and looking for something to do.

Château de Cheverny is a grand 17th-century country mansion located in the charming village of Cheverny, amidst the renowned châteaux of the Loire Valley. This captivating chateau is famous for its unique Renaissance style architecture, blending classic Renaissance and French medieval elements with influences from Italian design, courtesy of Leonardo Da Vinci. The ornate interiors and landscaped gardens, including stunning tulip gardens, make it a must-visit destination.
Chateau de Cheverny is a gorgeous chateau in the Loire Valley that has been in the same family for 600 years. The interior of the chateau was lovely & interesting. The beautiful gardens were whimsical with many fun exhibits for children & adults. We had delicious chocolate cake & cappuccinos on the terrace of the cafe. There was free parking at the chateau & when we visited the end April it was not overly crowded. This was one of our favorite chateaus.

Legendary & Iconic Castle Cheverny is one of my favorite castles as it is first beautiful but is also as this unique access to boat rides which make it really nice for families. The castle itself is just magical. This is a definite recommendation from us, we really enjoyed it!
Paul V — Google review
Beautiful castle with very nice and large gardens. Our children enjoyed seeing lego exhibitions in the castle as well as treasure hunt and a maze. Even though we visited on a Sunday in August, there were no big crowds and the whole experience was very pleasant.

Beautiful castle still privately owned and lived in. Bests part is that it still holds original furnishings to admire throughout. Many gardens to walk through and you can also visit the hunting dog kennels and watch them get fed. Gift shop available for souvenirs.
Alan Y — Google review
Hands-down, my favorite chateau in the Val de Loire. Why? Most comfortable, most welcoming, most like somewhere I could see children growing up. What else? The family that owns and still lives on the property is kind, generous and friendly.
Aubrey B — Google review
Château de Cheverny is elegant and beautifully preserved, with a warm and inviting atmosphere. The interior is richly decorated and feels very much alive, as the castle has been continuously inhabited by the same family for centuries. The gardens are also lovely, and the visit gives a true sense of refined French heritage.
Mirela P — Google review
Wonderful both the interior and the gardens. We were not lucky enough to see how the dogs were fed. The visit was on a Saturday and visiting the interior of the castle was difficult, many visitors. The ticket costs 15€/ person 10.05.2025

The castle is not very big, but it is worth visiting. And the surrounding park is huge, clean and has a lot of flowers and special landscapes. It's a shame that we didn't catch the impressive tulip cordon in May. However, I would suggest to those who take care of the castle that during visits they leave some windows open. When we visited it, it was very crowded inside and very hot. Otherwise, everything was wonderful!

Felt surreal seeing this place. The most beautiful castle I have ever visited. Inside is pretty empty, you are there for the architecture and the garden.

Mixed feeling….from one side castle is too crowded (with a lot of people playing with tablet used as travel guides)….but from the other side castle is huge and magnificent….I suggest (if possible) to visit it during not risk hours…

Beautiful castle - like from fairy tales. Very interesting show with horses - some history of the castle and France presented in a playful way. Lots of gift shops. Shops with local alcohol and charcuterie. Highly recommended to visit!
SIMPLY D — Google review
Gorgeous, breathtaking castle. It's absolutely massive. The sheer size of the castle is impressive and so is the history. Really inform yourself about it before you visit to appreciate it more. There is a room to the left as you enter the castle thah shows informative movies about it's history and architecture. I am giving it 4 stars because even with the map it was a bit of a challenge of having a cohesive visit. We kept checking the map to make sure we didn't miss anything. I would try finding creative ways of guiding visitors better in a better flow with some creative/visible signages. The inside of the castle isn't as impressive as other castles. The outside is alot nicer.
Elana P — Google review
Castle of Chambord is magnificent. The view from outside is astonishing. The inside is a bit empty but the architecture is really interesting from the outside and inside mainly on stairs. You can see the Kings' room and collections that are there. Gardens is beautiful and symetrics as french garden's specialty.

Highly recommence to spend a day in here 😍 and many steps 😂. A stunning Château with history. Take some small tour if possible, that you can go up to the latern tower which is the highest point to have great overview. Or there is a tour to explain about the history and architecture as well - by that you could enter a secret place of the Chateau.

Cathédrale Sainte-Croix d'Orléans

Sights & Landmarks
Cathédrale Sainte-Croix d'Orléans, located in the Old Town's Place Sainte-Croix square, is a significant religious building with Gothic-Neoclassical architecture. It is closely associated with Joan of Arc and features stunning stained glass windows depicting her life. The cathedral stands as a testament to the rich history of Orleans, housing relics and artworks from centuries past.
Beautiful large church with a long and eventful history. A first church was built here in the 7th century, replaced by a number of churches in the following centuries, who were all destroyed by fire, war, and the last one by Protestants in 1568. The church you see now is the result of centuries of construction that started in 1601 by King Henry IV. There is a strong connection to Joan of Arc as she prayed in the previous church when Orleans was under siege and after it was liberated on May 8th, 1429. Every year around May 8th, there are celebrations in town marking the liberation, which coincides with the end of WW2

Amazing! The outside and interior are incredibly beautiful. I'm not religious, but I love visiting churches and cathedrals, and this is a MUST visit!! The statues and wooden sculptures are amazing and there are many different saints and holy idols to look at. The small shop sells rosaries and small crosses, along with postcards and wristbands. Didn't buy anything, but that's just 'cause I was too scared to talk french with the seller lol.

In the heart of Old Orléans stands the mighty Sainte-Croix Cathedral. Amazingly, it gives me the impression of a lighter, almost floating structure compared to the more powerful Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris. Long and bright inside, generous in its dimensions, impressive in its details, well-preserved and well-maintained. I was immediately drawn to the light and dark colored floor tiles. Centuries of history were written here. In 1492, Saint Jeanne d'Arc walked through the mighty gate, on this floor, to the choir, where I also walked over it. I was touched by this thought and felt a certain power. Just at the very moment I was sitting on a bench to relax, the giant organ started playing, mightily roaring and furious! Could there be more history telling in a cathedral than at this moment?
Adrian B — Google review
Just grand. Renovated inside a few yrs ago. A jewel of Orleans to be sure to visit. Parking and kids play ground literally next to it but keep your parking ticket with or you won't be able to get back in the elevator to get back to the car underground. (They do not have signage warning you of this. Cathedrale closes,at 7pm.

Orléans Cathedral (Basilique Cathédrale Sainte-Croix d'Orléans). Another new one for me, from our recent holiday all over France. It was badly damaged in World War 2, both by the Germans and the Allies. Thoroughly restored, but my honest opinion is that it felt a little sterile. Well worth seeing of course. The next one I'm posting was a much more - to me anyway - beautiful building. Watch this space...!

Château de Sully-sur-Loire is a medieval fortress that was once the residence of the Dukes of Sully. It has a rich history, having been owned by the Dukes of Tremouille and even served as a prison for Joan of Arc. The castle features towers, a keep, rampart walk, and moats, making it an impressive sight. Inside, visitors can explore furnished interiors with paintings and tapestries on display.
Very nice castle, and despite not being one of the more famous and spectacular Loire Valley Châteaux, this smaller castle is a great choice if you want to avoid big crowds or spending a full day on one site. Especially the interiors showing the castle's different uses throughout the years, are beautifully done and definitely worth a visit.

Beautiful castle. Restaured well. Wood of the roof repaired too, in good condition. Nice to walk around in the different chambers. Entrance price is 8 Euro per person. Price worth, we can advise this trip.
Werner R — Google review
Parking next to the chateau was easy, not too busy and some spots in the shade. There was no waiting time at the entry. The family rate (22 euro for 2 adults and 2 kids) is friendly and not as harsh as the other chateaus we visited. The chateau is nicely preserved or restored. The structures inside are very interesting, especially if you consider it to be built so long ago. They did a good job in explaining the use of the chateau during the centuries. What I would like to give as a tip, make much of the French available information for kids available in other languages too. For instance the puzzle.
Frank F — Google review
The Sully-sur-Loire castle amazed me with its atmosphere: it felt like you were transported to past centuries. Inside, there are preserved halls with furniture and paintings that create a living history. The surrounding area is very well-kept, it is pleasant to walk in the park and along the Loire - the views are stunning. Here you can combine cultural acquaintance with the history of France and a quiet holiday in nature.

It's what you would image a castle should look like, including a moat. The sun was shining and making for good photos today. The inside had many beautiful and interesting slights to see. There were many stairs to climb. So, if you have trouble walking up pie stairs, you might need to enjoy some of it inside and take pleasure in how beautiful it is on the outside. There were plenty of tapestries, furniture and paintings to view. The bedrooms were wonderful. When you go upstairs you can see how they constructed the roof. All and all it was a great time. I even ran out of charge to take more photos of the last rooms I visited. Also, the outside had some stunning sites for picture taking!

Absolutely awesome cathedral that you should not miss if you ever come to Bourges. Also, the surrounding old town is worth a visit. If you are disabled, be aware that the streets are steep with a lot of cobblestones.

Impressive aquaduct that makes a safe crossing over the river Loire and connects the Canal Latéral with the Briare Canal. Once used by cargo boats it is now used mainly by pleasure boats and canal cruisers. On the sides you can cycle and walk. The aquaduct was built between 1890 and 1896 by the company of Gustav Eiffel and has a metal trough resting on 14 stone piers. With a length of 662 meter it was when completed the longest navigable aquaduct in the world. There are elaborate lamp posts at each end, reminiscent of the Pont Alexander III in Paris. It has a length

Vulcania is a volcanic-themed amusement park and museum located in the heart of the volcanic region around the Puy-de-Do volcano. The park offers a combination of interactive high-tech shows, educational movies, and thrilling rides that provide an immersive experience about the nature and mysteries of volcanoes. Visitors can explore various aspects related to volcanoes, earthquakes, chemistry, geology, and legends associated with them while enjoying fun attractions suitable for both children and adults.
Much much better and entertaining than expected. Great if you are interested in volcanoes and also astronomy, hurricanes. Special kudos to the team explaining seismology: sharp and funny. While entertaining and often suitable for children, many sets are scientifically solid such earth history, space exploration. My only quibble: very few explanations in English and I did not see any movies or experiences with English or any subtitles
Marquis D — Google review
The parc is nice with lots of 3D and dynamic activities, BUT I was hoping for more information on the actual volcanoes in Auvergne. There is 1 rather tatty display. I wanted to know how tall the volcanoes were, who lived in the area then and now, how it shapes the local agriculture, etc. This parc could be set anywhere else (like nearby a town with actual lodging and public transportation) and you wouldn't see the difference.
Sophie T — Google review
Very interesting and instructive park, the kids loved the roller coaster but also all the 2, 3 and 4D movies. Too bad some shows were not opened yet due to French holidays not having started yet.
Stéphanie D — Google review
Very informative and interesting place to learn about the earth's surface, space, volcanoes and a whole lot more. There were shows, rides, mini movies, play areas for smalln children etc
Aidan N — Google review
A pretty good family day out. You can't go out in France and expect things to not be in French, so plan for that if you don't speak French. There is an audio guide available in other languages but didn't see a lot of the numbers about, it does click in automatically on some displays but doesn't cover the shows (which are all in french, despite some indicating they are french only). Once the language stuff is out the way it's a really interesting place, covers some geology, palentology, astronomy, marine and a bit of local history - plus rides and attractions loosely themed around things people believed in before science explained volcanos and other natural phenomenon. There's a lot of reading and learning content which with my children was hard to get time to cover as there's many more exciting things to do, the shows are great - some are more interactive and fun than others, spelling Icelandic volcanoes was tough but the science demos were great. Well worth a visit if you're in the area and the planetarium (biggest in France apparently) is mind-blowing so prioritise some shows there!
Alistair W — Google review
A bit of a confusing experience, expected more. Things I liked: free parking / many activities / lots of staff. Things I didn't like: Everything is in French & French only. The signs, the explination, the instructions in person or in one of the many movies/theatres. I know you can ask an audio guide (which we did) but then it's difficult to know when to start the audio (I was 2mins out of sync in the big theatre. In the "Terre en colère" it is a great idea to have interaction with the dynamic quiz, but again, all in French & French only. Just adding English subtitles on the screens would make a huge improvement. (And I am not British but English seems like a logical choice to be as universal as possible) What I really didn't like: * the limitations for little kids. I know they pay less, but it feels like it doesn't make sense. They can go on rollercoasters from 1,00m height (in other parks I mean of course) but they cannot join you on a vibrating platform that hardly moves. For the "Réveil des géants d’Auvergne" it advertises as a minimum height of 90cm, but when we arrived at the queuing line there was a sign that stated minimum height of 110cm? (after being denied the entrance before at another dynamic animation we didn't care to queue anymore for this and just left). * the online ticket booking: when you visit the website in French you can find combo tickets, promotional packages, ... But when you choose the English version you only get the default ticket options, no price reduction for families or couples like on the French version. So I tried to book via the French version with browser translation, all good until prices suddenly change during the booking process? Ticket adult changed from 27,5€ to 31€, Ticket "enfant" ticket changed form 22,5€ to 26€, the Bambini changed form 7€ to 8€ ?? How and why? My thoughts on this park? If you are French speaking and are more than 110 or 120cm and you like Vulcanoes, then please visit, it will be fun and interesting. Otherwise, I will not advertise this park as a must do at all. From my experience, this was way to expensive for what we got.
Geert B — Google review
The museum has a very interesting and modern architectural concept, with three levels of underground experiences. However, it’s unclear whether it’s meant to be a science museum or an amusement park. As an amusement park, the attractions are quite underwhelming, most of them involve simply watching a screen. It’s also not easy to enjoy if you don’t speak French. Everything only in french. They only give you an audio guide, which is not convenient. The idea of the place is great, but the way it’s done could be much better.
Glafira K — Google review
Posting as someone who doesn't understand french. We used the English audio guides as we did for many other french museums. The audio guide was inadequate for the full experience. (1) Many experiences in the park involve live actors or narrators. That's not something that the audio guide could help. (2) some exhibits simply don't have a number for the audio guide. (3) not all shows or movies have translation in the audio guide. Some do. However, the volume of the audio guide is low. So, when there's french in the background, all four of us could not really hear the English. If this is a quiet museum, it might be fine. But with the setting, it didn't work. So, if you don't understand french, don't count on the audio guide.

Tissia — Google review
Great walk up to the top. We parked in the bottom car park which was 1h30 to the top. Started in lovely sunshine and ended up in rain clouds... But still worth the walk. Not for the faint hearted it is a 'proper' walk to the top but absolutely worth it.
BS D — Google review
Good for the exercise. There is a train for thos who dont want to walk. Going up walking is like 1 hour and a half. Beautifull nature. On the top, the view is incredible. There is a small museum. There are parachutes so you can had that adventure for 100 euros but, you have to reserve before going up. There are some cafés and rest also. Not so cheap.

Puy de Dôme is an amazing place to visit — peaceful, scenic, and full of natural beauty. Standing at the top gives you a calm, refreshing feeling, almost like the whole world slows down for a moment. The 360° views of the volcano chain and Clermont-Ferrand are unforgettable. It’s a perfect spot for nature lovers, photography, or simply relaxing in the fresh mountain air.
Ziron P — Google review
Beautiful sunrise. Takes about 45 minutes to walk to the top. Train is not working at present since there are some works going on.
Mavis B — Google review
If you come to Clermont Ferrand, visiting the Puy de Dôme is one of the 4 things I advise you to do; The other things are: - going to plateau de gergovie - having a dinner at the restaurant 1513 - if you like hiking/ outdoor activities go the "vallée de chaudefour"= beautifull landscape
Phil — Google review
Fantastic view, absolutely worth to visit
Torben H — Google review
Endless opportunities for good hikes, picnic, paragliding, snow sports(in winter) and pictures obviously. It can be pretty windy up there, so stay prepared for that. Also the slopes are mostly safe for children's play.

Murol Castle

Mentioned on

Castle
Museums
Murol Castle is a unique medieval fortress offering guided tours, including themed ones on medieval life and costumed shows. The castle provides incredible views but involves a steep climb to the entrance, making it less accessible for buggies. Visitors are advised to bring water as there are limited refreshments available. The castle features old devices and rooms showcasing medieval life, with small explanations provided throughout. Additionally, visitors can enjoy a show with horses at the site.
Unique castle with lots to bring history to life..incredible views, very exposed on a hot day, steep hill to climb to the entrance, wouldn't take a buggy as not very accessible. Toilets are porta loos and no refreshments apart from a medieval drink vending machine. Take water. Def worth seeing 2 hrs approx long enough for visit.
Alison B — Google review
I love it, and go there every year. I love the show on horses there and real life Merida-style archery and fights. I recommend !
Lifeism — Google review
Enjoyed our first time visit to this castle. Fun re-enactment with jousting and story; all in French. The tour was nice, and able to understand using tech (Google translate). Fun experience exploring on our own. Beautiful views of the surrounding area. Was worth the price. If hungry after exploring, I recommend having a pizza before leaving the area, at the Le Picotin.
Bryan V — Google review
Nice place if you have kids probably. Entrance fee on the website said €11 but it was €12,50
Anna D — Google review
Amazing experience with kids. The exposition is very well made and the decor helps you to immerse fully into medieval times. The theatre was great with music and fighting, my 4 kids loved it!
Moonatic P — Google review
Pretty unique, old castle. Lots of old looking devices (a crow cage used for torture for example) and rooms that show how people used to live during the times. There are some small explanations and not too many rooms to see, but just enough and well worth the visit. Look for the little pony and donkey near the bottom!
Loren B — Google review
Castle worth seeing (kids under 10 free adylts €9) but make sure you go on the day there is a show. Great show (45minutes) in French with horses and knights.

Animal Park Auvergne

Wildlife park
Outdoor Activities
Animal Park Auvergne is a wildlife park that offers an incredible experience for families. It's a haven of biodiversity, featuring species from around the world in spacious and natural enclosures. Visitors can come face to face with African animals, red pandas, wolves, and even participate in animal feedings. The park's layout is wheelchair and stroller-friendly with great viewing platforms for up-close encounters with tigers.
This park is beautifull the animals look well fed and healthy. I have joined in feeding sessions of the otters and racoons they gave great info about the animals. (Be aware tickets for feeding have a max of 10 tickets a day) I do recommend coming to this animal park!!! I also recommend having endurance 🤣
Rhayu A — Google review
Great day out with lots to see. The layout is very spacious and open, but easy to get around with a buggy or wheelchair. The viewing platforms are great!! Up close and personel with the tigers!! But.... 1) None of the panels included English explanations. 2) The restaurant had no bread left at 13h30 so no sandwhichs and very limited alternative options??? 3) No one available in the gift shop (18h00) to buy anything- which is a pity because they have nice little gifts for young children.
Evelyn F — Google review
Amazing experience, never expected an animal park to be this big in the mountains. I would recommend you get snacks, water and a hat for yourself. Most areas are wheel chair /stroller accessible (you can use a baby carry on). Wear good shoes. There are two kinds of feeding tickets check what suits you we did not attend any feeding. They have restaurants/coffee places.. there is a train that takes you to the top (pay additional) Keep a map with you
Chafff H — Google review
Amazing Place! So so better than Zoo. Makes you appreciate animals in something close to freedom. They have space and great areas to live in. They look happy and you can actually see them. It's also great for kids and If you don't like to walk you can even take a train to go up which might be useful (but you might skip some animals along the way). The only downside is that it is uphill.

Water & Amusement Parks
Le Pal is a unique French park that combines the thrills of an amusement park with the wonder of a wildlife sanctuary. Spanning 35 hectares, it's home to over 700 animals from more than 100 different species, including lions, tigers, giraffes, penguins, and many more. The animals enjoy spacious enclosures with natural elements like rocks and waterfalls. Visitors can enjoy a variety of water rides and roller coasters without long wait times.
We visit le PAL for the first time. It was a Friday and it was very quiet. We had enjoyed the attractions and the Animals. All Employees are very friendly. They have also a system for person with disabilities to visit the rides during the day with less stress and without stairs (exception: the steps within the ride vehicle). We had a enjoyable time in le PAL and I would recommend le PAL

Beautiful zoo and theme park. The Zoo part has very large animal enclosures. This is nice for the animals, but it can mean that you will not see the animals. The Zoo has some attractions and playgrounds. This part is so large you can easily spend a whole day here. Then there is also the theme park part which is also pretty big. With various types of attractions fot all ages. What I found remarkable is how clean the park is. The employees are kind and helpful. Another positive thing is that you don't need to buy a parking ticket for your car! A small point to improve is the speed of the chargers for electrical vehicles. My Tesla model Y only charged for 17% in 10 hours.
Stan V — Google review
Had a brilliant two days in the park. The mix between attraction and wildlife is brilliant. What is amazing (which shouldn't be) is how clean everything was was. We stayed in the lodges above the hippos and it was brillant to watch them play as if we weren t there and the accomodation was outstanding. Don t hesitate book and vist le pal you will not be disappointed.
James M — Google review
Great amusement park which combines being a theme park and a zoo in one park. The rides are attractive for a broad public as there are both simple, slow rides for younger kids and very fast rides like the Yukon quad. The animal shows (especially the bird show) are absolutely marvellous with all kinds of birds flying over your head.
Frank V — Google review
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Fantastic Day at Le Pal! We visited Le Pal on 5 July and had a great time. The animals all looked healthy and well cared for, and we especially enjoyed watching the hippo feeding. The attractions were super fun, and because of the warm weather, the park had thoughtfully arranged some activities with fresh, cold water to help everyone cool down. I’ll definitely come back again soon!

Beautiful Park and Hotel! Great Rides! Must Visit!!!

We stayed 2 days at the PAL with a family of 9 over 3 generations. We all loved it. Excellent concept. Everything is thought for easing families happiness. Attractions are surrounded by trees and vegetation. Animals are well nourished and treated. Food booths are not proposing junk food. Prices are reasonable. We do recommend the PAL.

Sights & Landmarks
Cathédrale Notre-Dame-du-Puy is a Romanesque masterpiece located in the town of Puy-en-Velay, attracting pilgrims and tourists with its unique striped facade made of volcanic rock and sandstone. This UNESCO World Heritage site was built between the 10th and 12th centuries and features a blend of Romanesque and early Gothic architecture. The cathedral houses a revered statue of the Black Virgin, which is paraded through the streets annually on August 15th.
A place of pilgramage. All roads lead to the cathedral. Over 144 cobble stone steps to the top. Not for the faint of heart. Opens up to the altar of the cathedral. Statues of Joan of Arc and Louie XIV. The black virgin Mary. The original was burned during the french revolution.

On top of the hill behind Le Puy, it’s a bit of a climb, but well worth it Quite plain inside by Euro standards but has a “vibe” that makes you think it’s something special The views back towards the town and great

Always a must see when i go to Le Puy, beautiful church with many secrets and little ally ways. There are some closed doors that if you give a little push will open right up and you will find yourself all by yourself in a new section of the church. There are great views of the city and other landmarks in the city. Do be ready to walk up many steps as this church is at the top of the hill.
Gaspard A — Google review
This is a magnificent historical Romanesque cathedral. It's location on a high point in the heart of the old town offers amazing views of the city. We were lucky as during our visit there was a Pilgrim's mass on. This Cathedral is definitely a must visit.

Couriot - Musée de la Mine

Mentioned on
3 lists
Museum
Sights & Landmarks
Couriot - Musée de la Mine is a captivating living museum that immerses visitors in the rich history of coal mining in the Saint-Etienne region. Nestled within an expansive 8-acre park, it offers picnic areas and scenic views. While the restored mining gallery is currently closed, guests can explore various exhibition rooms showcasing the life of miners and temporary exhibits at their own pace.
This is a must-visit place whether you're a tourist or a resident of Saint Etienne. The Couriot Mine is an essential part of Saint Etienne's history, and hence, this place has to be on your bucket list. If you're a student or under 25 years of age, you get free entry to the museum, but you're not allowed to go into the mining shaft. If you visit on weekday mornings, it usually isn't very crowded. I recommend visiting in the morning so that you get to see all the exhibits in a quiet and peaceful environment. Advanced booking is not necessary unless you're taking a guided tour. The guided tour is only available in French, so unless you're fluent in French, it's not worth it. At the ticket office, you can buy souvenirs like fridge magnets, postcards etc. The coffee machine at the ticket office didn't work the last time I visited.. that was a little disappointing. The vending machine doesn't accept cards as a form of payment, which is disappointing as well. Overall, I loved visiting the museum and learning about the history of mining in Saint Etienne and the Loire region. There are several exhibits and animations that explain every aspect of the mining industry and its history, particularly the Couriot mine.
Sinjini — Google review
Awesome museum ! I highly recommend doing a guided visit. You will go underground and see how a charcoal mine is. The guide was very nice and very informative.
Felipe L — Google review
Well worth a visit, and walkable from city center. The guided tour was superb, so consider booking in advance!
Kathryn G — Google review
This museum is a former coal mine. Super interesting to visit if you pass by and you are interested in this kind of stuff. If you book in advance a guided tour (organised by the museum), you will also have the opportunity to visit a replica of the mine galleries, which includes a short underground train ride (underground facilities are not open to visitors with a regular entry ticket, guided tour only). Suitable for children. Everything is in French, though.
AJ M — Google review
Very interesting place! Worth visiting for sure. Sadly we couldn’t visit the mine itself which would have been great to see.
Nadine K — Google review
Dirty, neglected, the QR codes don't work, you can't go down into the mine...

Abbaye de Cluny

Abbey
Sights & Landmarks
Nestled in the charming town of Cluny, the Abbaye de Cluny stands as a testament to medieval architecture and history. This grand Benedictine monastery boasts impressive ruins, including a majestic bell tower and serene cloisters that invite exploration. While there are no dining facilities on-site, nearby restaurants offer delightful options for a meal after your visit. For those keen on enhancing their experience, audio guides are available for rent—just remember to bring your own earphones for convenience!
We visited with group. I overheard our group head talked to receptionist and found that we can come for free (I think there is certain condition people who can come for free). So please check before you buy a ticket. The monastery is huge. Located in old town. For renting audio, it costs €3 If you have single jack for earphone, bring it! It’s easier to hear the audio and you don’t need to hold the audio like you are in the middle of calling someone :)) Unfortunately in many area there is no information at all.
Ronnie M — Google review
Beautiful Abbey. The 3D displays and movies show how splendid this Abbey has been. Audiotour recommended
Paul V — Google review
Used to be the center of Christendom. Mostly ruins, but still lots there to see. Amazing digital recreations of the Abbey. Never really understood that until the 1400's this was the largest cathedral in Christendom - much bigger than St. Peters of that day. A combination of religious politics and the reformation in France changed all that. Much of the Abbaye was destroyed during the reformation. The digital exhibit expertly guides you through the transformation of the Abbaye over time.
Dave B — Google review
Cool Abbey with a nice history. Surprised at how influencial it was over the years. Audio tour worth getting though it's a little clunky.
Cian O — Google review
Layers of history are on display, with excellent 3D displays showing past-to-present contrasts and changes. Look out for the freestanding screens placed around; move and touch them to see the hidden layers. It's cool even on a very hot day, so it offers a break from the summer heat.
Andrew W — Google review
Going there was not super planned for us on our holidays. But it absolutely was worth it! The place is spectacular. Super big with nice explanations and visuals on how it looked once it was build. We were really in the atmosphere of medieval period !
Olga V — Google review
This beautiful little town has a lot to offer if you're cruising through the back roads of Burgundy, and the Abbey is a spectacular way to spend the day if you enjoy history and ancient buildings. Besides the ruins and restorations, there are 3D films and models to dazzle you. Don't skimp on adding the Tour des Fromages toi your visit (spoiler alert - it's nothing to do with cheese). Don't be put off by the declaration of how many steps there are to climb, the view is worth it.
David H — Google review
It is unfortunate that a majority of the place was dismantled and sold off. The place is in a constant state of renovation. There was a nice film explaining the history and the audio guide helped walk us through what was left on the place. Stepping outside and seeing where the footings are represented on the ground shows the shadow of the size of the Abby at one time. So little is left that I don’t know if the money to learn about it is worth it.
