Mølen is a stunning pebble beach with a rich historical and natural significance. The area is famous for its great stone mounds from the Iron Age, which are said to number over 1000 Viking burial mounds. The beach offers panoramic sunset views and features hundreds of cairns marking ancient tombs. It's recommended to visit during stormy weather to witness the power of nature, but it's also worth exploring in all seasons.
Beautiful place. Worth a visit during all seasons. When the sea is stormy it's breathtaking. The history of the beach is interesting as well. It's easy to find, plenty of parking as well. Sunset/ Sunrise are stunning.
Melanie — Google review
When ever we visit Norway we visit MØLEN. It's such an amazing place with over 1000 viking burial mounds. Billions of stones make up the foreshore and surrounding area.
Captain E — Google review
Ancient site of grave mounds, mentioned in the Icelandic Sagas. Please 🙏 do not climb on the graves or take stones from here! Respect our ancestors and history! When we visit you, we don't steal from your holy sites, or jump up and down on your graves. The stones will roll down and disappear, I was here 20 years ago and the mounds were so much bigger. Dette gjelder norske turister også. Dette er saga-tids graver. Ikke klatre på Ynglingegravene!
Åse I — Google review
Interesting rocky beach with historical cairnes. Beautiful coastline. It became the first UNESCO Global Geopark in the Nordics in 2008.
Maria K — Google review
Very Nice place to check. Plenty of pretty rocks along the seashore. Can find very old rocks dated thousands of years ago.
Meriam D — Google review
A really wonderful place, very good for walking and relaxing. When I was there in summer I was almost all alone. There's something magical about it ... Always worth a trip!
Mel C — Google review
Amazing Beach. We were there in winter. Nobody was there. Beach of big rocks is interesting. I am curious how it looks in summer.
Barbora K — Google review
I recomend this place when its stormy weather. When ocean is calm and sun is shining; then there are so many other places to enjoy in the region (sandy beaches and cold beer).. but when weather is bad and nowhere to go then this is the place.. Here you see the power of nature. Btw, the viking history is also one reason to visit this place.. but Larvik was full of vikings all over so no reason to just go here..

A nice stroll in the park ... Squirrels that I love can also be seen. Ends up in a very pretty place where you can see the ocean and has some tables to sit and relax there. I think it's a very nice picnic spot .
Stavros S — Google review
In the 1940s this place was annexed by the German forces and turned into a bastion to defend the Oslo Fiord from allied attacks. It was fitted with French cannons taken as a spoils of war - ironically after the liberation the fort was retrofitted with German cannons, also taken as a spoils of war 😳. Currently it is a nature reserve boasting several rare species, ie montaneous flowers having adapted to the coastal climate. The bunkers are sealed and not accessible, but the trenches and cannon mounts are all pretty intact. There are also several interesting areas with fossils.
Trond S — Google review
Nice place with history from WW2. Beautifull views and lot of paths to follow. Possible to bath and relax.
John-Haakon A — Google review
Bit of a uneven path to get there but interesting visit plus there are a few picnic tables by the sea for a pause during the walk. Not much parking maybe only 6 cars.
Ian B — Google review
In theory, this place is nice to set up camp, stay the night and have breakfast overlooking the breathtaking view. Sadly this is only theoretical as we do not trespass.

We walked up from Sentrum and it was quite the uphill walk, but well worth it. A lovely little park with interpretive displays on the historical buildings that have been relocated there. The museum that is in the park is well worth a visit.

It is interesting. Old houses with brief history written beside them. You can see the whole city from up there with binoculars that are available for free. There is also a playground for kids.

The Telemark Canal, a 65-mile waterway opened in 1892, features 18 locks with a total elevation of 72 meters. The childhood home of playwright Henrik Ibsen in Skien is now a museum. Coastal culture awaits in Kragero with its rocks, fresh seafood, and beautiful beaches. Visitors can take the half-day canal ride and history/dinner program from Lunde to Ulefoss for an immersive experience.
It was a very scenic, educational and relaxing boat trip.

Maricarmen S — Google review
I can’t believe all the times in my life I have been to Norway and have never done this. This is a must do - and now will be in my permanent rotation to share with guests that come stay with us. You have a few options headed north. You can start in Skien and end in either Lunde or Dalen. Lunde is the half day trip (5 hours) and Dalen is an entire day - I think about 10 hours. There is also an option to get on in Ulefoss. That one is a three hour tour. Finally, you can get on in Lunde. The entire day gets you 8 locks, the Skien-Lunde is 6, and the Ulefoss- Lunde is 3. All the locks are amazing, but Vrangfoss is the king. The Ulefoss-Lunde gets you that, so if you’re short on time just do that. Don’t do Lunde-Dalen - it’s pretty but you miss Vrangfoss. Tips: they offer a sit down lunch on the boat. We didn’t take that and we were glad we did as we didn’t miss any of the locks. That said, we did get hungry by the time we got off in Lunde at 12:50. Bring a matpakke! (A sandwich in your bag). There is a sit down restaurant right at Lunde lock. The bus won’t leave until 1:30. You DO have time to get a quick meal there before the bus. Just let them know you’re catching the bus. Parking is free at Skien, but you need to get the paper to display in your car from the deck hand on the boat. This was an amazing trip and I can’t wait to do it again.
Chris S — Google review
Great, but no nead to take the trip all the way to Dalen Hotel. Good food on the boat.

What a great community center! There was a pool, we saw groups of kids playing Frisbee golf, an employee told me about shooting or bow classes, and I watched mountain bikers race around a course. We spent our time at the adjacent ishall (hockey arena) watching the Women's Parahockey World Challenge. The arena was beautiful but so cold. My friend brought an entire duvet in which to wrap herself.

Great indoor water park, especially for kids. Water slide, wave pool, swirl pool, warm pool, bubble bath, 1-10 diving, sauna. Also other facilities in addition to the water park.

The best entertainment in Norway WITHOUT ANY QUESTIONS. Warm water, jakuzi, sauna, waterslides, everything for only 250 ish for grown-ups. I can’t even explain how much I love this place. Huge thanks to people who established this beautiful place. I love it. 100/10.
J.J. D — Google review
Me and my family go here, but not always. Still this park is so amazing. The only thing I have been in is their swimming pool however, it's amazing. A wave pool, a swirl pool thingy that spins you around, 3 cold big pools, 2 hot pools, 1 jacuzzi, up to 15m jump I think? An obstacle course, 2 slides. 1 small 1 big. In context amazing. And the thing I have to point out is their amazing contribute to private changing. In other pools for example sandefjord swimming pool, they don't have private small rooms you can change in. But skien fritidspark swimming pool does. The only 3 bad things about it is: 1: on weekends or any day off school, it's overcrowded. Especially during the morning/day. But in the evening it's not that bad. 2: the price. It is quite expensive. My family is big, consisting of 6 people, 2 adults 2 teenagers, 1 teen, and 1 kindergarten kid. The total was around 1200KR. Which is a lot in my opinion. 3: This isn't certainly that bad, but it does come a little unexpected. If you want to buy food in the kiosk/cafe in the swimming area, you have to put money in your bracelet. This doesn't sound that bad, but it's that you have to put the money when you buy the bracelet. They should put a sign or something stating that. Because it wasn't like that before. Other than that, amazing and definitely recommend.
Khalid E — Google review
great fun for children and adults. very nice facility. the only huge downside to staying at this amusement park was that my shoes were stolen. it's good that I had flip-flops and I was waiting for a train return home. And I had Norway as a country where you don't steal ... that's why it gives you one star

(Translated by Google) So what a service!! I arrive a little stressed because the girl with diabetes is on Jomfruland and needs some equipment for her insulin pump as she had gotten too little from home. It was a bit critical and had to go out tonight. The last ferry is going to leave and they have no other passengers, no phones from any of the islands and there I arrive stressed and ask if they could drive the small but important equipment out to Jomfruland. That I was willing to pay for the return trip if necessary 😄😄 they wouldn't have anything for it and drove out without protest 😄 have always had positive experiences with Kragerø fjord boat company but this takes the cake 😄😄 it almost doesn't get better 😄 when they drove there was a grateful mother left on the pier who missed a boat trip before an hour's drive home 😄😄 and a rather relieved grandmother and grandfather on Jomfruland who got the equipment they needed 😄😄 hats off for such service 😄 it's completely unique 😄😄 (Original) Altså for en service!!

The small zoo

Zoo
Outdoor Activities
It was a very cozy place, intimate and very easy to interact with the animals as they're so close. My favorite part of the zoo was the Fish pond I found it very relaxing you could sit on the stairs, and I would recommend you take a little bit of time to sit on the stairs and enjoy watching different types of beautiful colorful fishes unfold themselves. Ofcos the monkeys the snakes and all the other animals there were also very fascinating to see them so close .
Abigail N — Google review
Small zoo where you get to come really close to the animals. I especially liked the rainforest area where you walk amongst lemurs, turtles and small monkeys without fences between you. During feeding hours you may also be allowed to offer them a snack from your hand!
Bjørn — Google review
An absolutely fantastic Zoo that is perfectly arranged for families with children. Here, most animals roam freely in dedicated areas so that you get them as close as possible! Outside there is a large play area for the children and benches you can sit and enjoy the sight of happy children playing, and easily follow what the children are doing. Here you can also sit down to eat brought or bought food and drink, and there are grills you can use. If you have special needs, they are happy to accommodate if possible. Can't wait to go back!
Signe G — Google review
We were very disappointed. After reading options on Google and TripAdvisor we were expecting small kid friendly place with a good food. The only place we got any service was when we bought the tickets. We didn't even get the map. The playing ground was OK. We couldn't see even one person working in the park (checking on animals). The park is very small, few animals. In the "part" with rabbits we were terrified how other kids treating those poor animals.... Running after them, carrying upside down. We have rabbits home so we were shocked that it was no-one to look after animals. Food we ordered was tasteless and the meat was burned. My husband ordered the burger, he asked how big was 🍔 and he got the answer 160g. The burger was extremely small and burned but we were so hungry that we didn't want to wait another 20 minutes for the new one. The whole trip was disappointment and we can not recommend this place. Please get someone to keep eye on those poor animals!
Jolanta W — Google review
Great zoo! Very kid friendly as it is in a small area, not requiering a ton of walking. Also, it has a kid playground, a gas grill that can be used to cook food that you have brought with you, free of charge, a nice, small resturant, clean toilets and awesome service. And, of course, the rainforest is incredible!
Just M — Google review
Very cozy zoo, with hands on experiences with the animals. The employees were really nice and accommodating, but also very knowledgeable. This was my 3rd time there and I'd definitely come again :)
Embla B — Google review
It.s a very small zoo, but cozy and you can interract more with the animals. It.s especially nice for kids. Large playing area for all ages too!

Dyreparken Safarihotell is a stylish and modern hotel with an animal-themed design, featuring a bar, restaurant, and conference space. Located just 11 km outside Kristiansand, it is part of a vast entertainment area that includes various parks, a zoo showcasing Nordic and endangered African and Asian animals in natural habitats, theme parks inspired by beloved children's characters, and an impressive water park.
Perfect for a weekend at the zoo. They have put a lot of effort to make this kid friendly

We got lucky to be in corner family suite so the balcony and room are a bit bigger than other family suites. It was meant for 6 people - 2 double bunk beds and 2 single bunk beds. We are 3 people. The room was perfect for us but the mattress and pillows were not good. Both felt like too soft due to too little fillings. I stacked three pillows and still too thin. I had to row up a blanket under the pillow. The sofa is more comfortable than the mattress. I had to sleep on the sofa to get a good night sleep. We did not try the breakfast after reading the reviews. We ate at nearby mcdonald in sorlandet senter. There are quite a lot of nice eating places in that shopping mall. Motti Thai is highly recommended. The buffet thai Thai is also not bad.

A unique experience, especially for children who love animals and Captain Sabeltann. The food at the hotel is very good and fresh, and the rooms have everything you need to enjoy the park, although on hot summer days there is no air conditioning and it is not advisable to stay in the room until the night air arrives. I went with my wife, my children and two dogs and it is a great help to be able to bring animals. The Captain Sabelton night show was wonderful and the kids were thrilled. The water park is a marvel for the kids as well and a very nice touch was that there were patrols offering sunscreen so you don't get sunburned.

We come to the hotel for our son's birthday and he was very happy. The room was nice, spacious, clean and the reception provide us all the informations we needed. Breakfast and dinner had a very various selection and it was impossible for the kids not put something on the plate to eat. We had a nice stay and we thank you for that.🤗

Situated 10-15 minutes drive from Kristiansand at the local zoo. The service is good. The food is even better. The hotel is crowded in the holiday season, but I strongly recommend a stay.

I normally stop here when I work at Dyreparken. Beautiful place, well themed, zoo right outside the front door. What's not to like? Restaurant is large and comfortable. The evening buffet has everything, as does the breakfast. Staff are outstanding. A lot of the staff have been there for years and know everything you need to know. The rooms are a reasonable size and the en suites well fitted. There are coffee /tea facilities in the room. The TV has several Norwegian channels but a lot of films and tv series are English anyway and it isn't dubbed. The photo shows the view from my room (303). The zoo is just across the car park.

Last stop on my Road Trip across Norway, ferry this afternoon so I stopped here. What a lovely place to stop at. Comfortable rooms, lovely buffet restaurant. I think it would be different when kids are on holidays, the amusement park next door looks like it could be a lot of fun!!

Reception is open 24/7. Warm welcome. Room was clean and of the right size. Breakfast was simply perfect: everything you want was there. After one day work, I decided to stay in the hotel for dinner. Food was OK but the "Panna Cotta" at the end was like in Italy! Surprising!!!

Aquarama in Kristiansand is a popular water park offering a wide range of aquatic activities for all ages. Situated along the sandy shoreline, this massive complex is a delightful multi-use destination that attracts both locals and tourists. The park features exciting water slides, diving boards of varying heights, a rapid river, and quieter areas for relaxation such as saunas, steam rooms, plunge pools, and jacuzzis.
One of the best water park in Norway. Clean and you don’t see any rust from metal fences etc. There are two hot plunge pools outside which is the best part. One swimming pool outdoor. And inside one gigantic swimming pool with diving platforms (1m, 5m and 10m). And there is a swimming for massage like you use high pressure water on your body. Oh the water park is perfect for all ages!
Timmy T — Google review
Highly recommend visiting Aquarama. We have been here 3 times now and enjoyed it everytime. The most convenient was when we also stayed at the Scandic hotel as its in the same building. Aquarama has a nice selection of facilities. Lots of different pools both indoor and out, 3 different water slides as well as a regular swimming pool with lanes and diving area. There is also a spa which I will definitely try next time. Staff were attentive and friendly. There is a food place inside which sells allergy friendly alternatives, but the food offered are things like pizza, burgers, chicken wings and chips etc. Changing rooms are clean and looked after, there are some hair driers but they are not powerful but there are power points and mirrors if you bring your own. The changing rooms are seperate so no family changing rooms. Parking is available onsite in the underground carpark, but it can be a bit expensive depending how long you stay.
Charlee S — Google review
An amazing facility with numerous options for leisure and active swimming. The pools are immaculate and clean and never really too crowded. More crowded on weekends than on weekdays as normal. The only issue if any is the changing room floor is very slippery and some people wear their shoes there even though not allowed making it a real mess at times. Wish they would put some anti slip on the floor and ensure the no shoes policy. Otherwise it’s a great place.
Noor S — Google review
Great fun in the pools. Large aquapark for adults and children. Friendly staff, clean, good water quality. Catering for the hungry 😀 hamburgers, pizza and more. Various programs from swimming lessons, surfing, saunas and more. Very nice destination. I recommend it to everyone.

Full support aqua center. Platforms from 3, 5, 7.5, and 10m. Diving boards for 1 and 3m. A few slides and the rocket pool which blows you around this ~50m circuit. There food court is great. Tables inside and outside. Great summer visit. It's fun for all ages.

Mineralparken

Temporarily Closed
Water & Amusement Parks
Theme Parks
The park has a great staff which is very kind and helpful. It's not a very big park, where obviously the waterpart and mineral museum is the main attraction. With some play parks for the kids. Drinks are very expensive, a softdrink cost up to 45NOK, so maybe bring your own drinks. Food is good, and a good price for the amount you get. Staff also seems to handle stress well, seeing that yesterday apparently some system crashed and people were waiting 30+ minutes for drinks and food. But they were kind to compensate with extra drink for the wait. 5/5 stars because of the staff. The park gets a 3/5.
Moffenson N — Google review
Great place to bring your kids for a day of fun. Look at all the minerals from all over the world, let the kids do the quiz with their own map and collect their reward. Go swimming or climb the blow up floating obstacle course, borrow a canoe, a SUP board or a kayak and explore the lake and its small islands. Go climbing or zipline over the lake in the adventure park... Lots do to, see and enjoy. Highly recommended it, we will go back there
Rita S — Google review
Might be fun during the high season, but please don't waste your money on it during the low season. There is nothing to do and 99% of the museum is in Norwegian. Way too expensive for what it is.
Silke S — Google review
Weird concept to combine a mineral museum with fun for the all (dinos, lot of water activities). But it works! We had a great day at mineralparken. Started with the exhibition in the morning and after lunch enjoyed the slides, beach and all the other water fun.

Good for family picknick but a little bit expensive for a park..
Warren R — Google review
We are interested by minerals, and naively we visited this place. The first (bad) surprise is that you have to pay the parking in addition to the visit fee. The second surprise is the price: very expensive, I do not remember exactly but something like 650 NOK (approx 65 euros) for 2 adults. Wow. But hey, now we are there, let pay and see those minerals. There is an exposition of minerals. It is not huge, it it is more or less interesting but anyway it does not worth the visit at this price. In addition, there are a lot of exposed stones in the obscurity because here the people apparently do not replace the bulbs that do no longer work. Are bulbs too expensive for them? In fact we discovered that this "Mineralparken" is also a place with games and toboggans in the water and a kind of lake with a beach for swimming etc. We did not care but we pay for that. We felt like abused by the misleading /unfair marketing about this park. We are interested in minerals, not in toboggan and water games. Very disappointed. Keep your money and spend it elsewhere!
Vincent B — Google review
What is this place trying to be? Exhibition, theme park, playground, campsite? What's the target group? Be aware that most things cost extra, despite the already high entrance fee. Such a weird place! But the locals seem to love it (and so did our toddler).

Lindesnes Lighthouse, a historic gem first illuminated in 1656, stands proudly as Norway's southernmost point. The current cast-iron structure, built in 1915, is not just a beacon for sailors but also houses an engaging museum that chronicles the evolution of lighthouses over the centuries. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views while strolling around this picturesque site and even spend the night if they wish.
A great place. We arrived late morning midweek June. Car park was nearly full. We didn't pay for lighthouse entry (too many people) but did the blue walk to an amazing headland with fantastic views of coast and lighthouse. You need good walking shoes and confidence and a bit of stamina to do this two hour walk. It's well worth it to get away from the crowds and those pesky you tubers and their droning.
Jeff V — Google review
Beautiful lighthouse complex on the southernmost tip of Norway. The visit into the lighthouse itself is a treat and gives you a panoramic view of the southern coastline. Several relatively easy trails start nearby. We stayed in on of original houses on the premise to enjoy the wind howling around it.

Nice place. Check the weather forecast before heading here. There are many small exhibitions and a few houses on the territory. You have to pay to enter the whole area, but seems like it worth it. Everything is clean and in a good condition 🙌🏼 Some say that the place has too many tourists, but in the middle of October there was almost nobody

Flekkefjord Line

Tours
Sightseeing Tours
Bike Tours
The Flekkefjord Line offers an exhilarating blend of natural beauty and intriguing architectural history along its 17-kilometer stretch, which is no longer operational for trains. This scenic roundtrip spans approximately 32 kilometers and typically takes around three to four hours. However, many recommend pausing after about 1.5 hours to enjoy the stunning surroundings before heading back, as the views remain consistent throughout the journey. The route features a gentle uphill climb that makes returning much easier.
We had huge fun experiencing this adventure. We had our two year old with us and were offered a car seat to transport her. That worked really great. I followed the tips of bringing a hat and a jacket for the rather cold tunnels, but for me (being actively cycling) there was no need for a jacket. Bring some snacks and enjoy the ride 😍
Natalie S — Google review
What a great adventure! The scenery was amazing. The ride was not easy, but very much worth it. The people in our time group were all so nice. Everyone helped each other turn our carts around. Two people could turn them around, but everyone said it would be easier if we helped each other. The employees were so helpful and nice, especially Ephrem. We had our luggage with us and they let us store it there while we did our ride and went to eat afterward. Ephrem even loaned me his rain pants since it was forecast to rain during our ride. He definitely went above and beyond to make sure our bike ride was great. I would highly recommend Flekkefjord Line!
Keith B — Google review
Great experience, staff are friendly and helpful. I was concerned about motorhome parking Ephrem responded quickly by WhatsApp to ensure us they had room. We went at 0800 which for us was a good choice as it was a bit cooler. As my wife has knee issues we went with the electric bike option, which for us was a good choice. We booked online. Also it can be quite noisy, so it is good for young children to have ear plugs, they had some foam ones in the office for 2 in our group. Also a headlamp or a small torch. Do we recommend ’yes’ the scenery is spectacular and was worth the pedalling.
Kiwisflythecoop N — Google review
Wow! We are a family of 5 and we had great fun. The views of the lakes are amazing and the rides in the tunnels are magical with the lights provided.

The Flekkefjordbanen was an absolute highlight of our trip! A fantastic experience with breathtaking views along the historic railway line. We got to see things we had never seen before and enjoyed such a unique perspective. The operators are incredibly friendly and made the whole adventure even better. Highly recommended!
J. F — Google review
We did the Flekkefjordbanen rail biking experience with our two young kids and had a really lovely time exploring Norway in such a unique way. We had booked the 16:00 slot, and while the start was a bit chaotic with many people arriving at the same time, the staff welcomed us with kindness and clarity. They helped everyone get their helmets and safety vests, and made sure we fully understood the safety instructions and how the trip would go. We really appreciated the clear guidance and the tips on where to stop and where to find toilets along the route. After a quick demo and checking that our belongings were secure, we were off! The tunnels were quite cold, just as we’d been told, but we had brought sweaters (especially for the kids) and were glad we did. The journey itself was beautiful. One stunning view after the other. A truly special way to see a different side of Norway. It took us just over an hour on a non-electric bike to reach the endpoint. The only downside was the wait at the end: we had about 45 minutes before we could return, and there wasn't much to do during that time. Two picnic tables were all that was available. A little café, vending machine, or play area would have made the pause a lot more enjoyable. The ride back was smooth, and we all returned with big smiles. It was a fun and memorable experience: peaceful, scenic, and great for families with young children.
Marianne E — Google review
Roundtrip of 3,5 hours (we used 3). The trip is around 32km. You will have to turn after 2 hours. I will say that it is better for most people to stop after 1,5 hour and take a nice break along the track and then turn rather than going all the way to the end. The scenery is more or less the same and I saw many was tired, I think their experience would have been better with a break. It is uphill almost all the way to the end so the tour back is really easy. If you bring kids (or passengers) they should have extra clothes, it gets cold in the tunnels.

This is a gem. Can wander and hike, bird, enjoy the animals, fantastic shoreline and to boot can sign up for 30 minute session to yourselves to enjoy and climb the wonderful lighthouse yourselves. They hand you the key to unlock and lockup. A highlight for us.

Lista Fyr lighthouse is a wonderful place to stay, an apartment that has everything you need for an extended stay and access to the Lighthouse was awesome! Comfortable living room, big dining room table & well equipped kitchen. Having a bike to borrow was very much appreciated. Wish we could have stayed longer…

Nice lighthouse great Vue worth the visit.

A beautiful part of Norway. Staying overnight at the lighthouse made it part of the magic. Ocean view, history on the hikes, nature, scenery together with being very lucky with the weather- we want to come back!
Marianna V — Google review
Nice lighthouse and some ww2 bunkers but the main attraction is the unique wetlands with scattered boulders. A nice walk g and biking path of 'vita velo' 15km starts here.
Sven B — Google review
We had the opportunity to see the field covered in flags, many norwegian flags. A great place to visit. There are some fields with animals around that will give children an additional joy. You can also sit and do some bird watching.
Ciprian G — Google review
Nice place for a walk. Did the short 1.5km official trail from the lighthouse towards the wood patches. It's ok, but not super exciting. That said, after 1.5km, there's a cute little 'port' with multiple coloured houses.
MVR — Google review
It is a nice place to stop by. Some walking tracks near. The view on the top of the light House is great. I love that cozy feeling all around. There is also info om the lokal bird info. Come to support this place !

Lysefjord is a breathtaking 25-mile-long glacial fjord that captivates visitors with its stunning landscapes, featuring towering mountains, cascading waterfalls, and lush farmland. This natural wonder is home to a thriving seal population and boasts one of the world's most iconic viewpoints, which rises majestically to 604 meters. The unique tooth-like shape of the fjord was sculpted by ancient ice movements thousands of years ago.
Amazing fjord. We did a guided kayaking tour of 3 hours to explore the fjord up close. Couldn’t be happier… saw seals twice… one was swimming another basking on the rock. Hiked the pulpit rock, which was 20minute drive from our kayaking spot.

Best place to travel near Stavanger in my opinion! Go terenie by ferry or on foot! You will made excellent Photoshop class as wallpapers!

The Lyse fjord is yet another wonder of nature is this blessed part of Norway. It is definitely a must go if you are visiting Stavanger or surroundings. The boat tour provides some stunning visuals of the formations, including a close stop by a waterfall near by.

AMAZIIIIIING!! After my 4th hiking trip to Norway, I have never seen a more stunning spot in Norway as such. Lysebotn village is very beautifully located in a very picturisque place. You can hike to Peikestolen (Pulpit rock), Flørli 4444 wooden stairs, Kjeragbolten and Kalelli. You will be rewarded with amazing untouched beauty everywhere.
Daphne — Google review
By boat from Stavanger to the Lysefjord and back again. A very nice trip overlooking the beautiful wild nature of the fjord. Takes 3.5 hours and never bores for a moment. You can stay inside on the boat and enjoy fresh coffee with a cinnamon roll or go outside on the upper deck to see everything even better and get a nice breath of fresh air.
Andrea S — Google review
Nice but over rated. Pulpit rock viewed from the bottom will be a real disappointment. Better to take the hike if you can. The cruise on a fast boat takes 3 hours. Better to go in the morning as the sun hits the rock straight on. We were lucky with a cloudless day in June but be prepared for wet raining cold day.
HC S — Google review
We went through Lysefjord on a boat cruise from Stavanger. It was very beautiful, and hard to appreciate or envision the height until seeing other boats on the water. It was worth the trip as there were several beautiful sites along the way in addition to the general scenic fjord views.
Becky T — Google review
I visited this place back in Jun 2017. It was my first ever fjord visit! I took the Rodne Fjord Cruise's Pulpit rock cruise and hike package. The weather was not on my side that day with rain and clouds. But the skies cleared as we went into the fjord and I enjoyed it thoroughly! Its absolutely beautiful.

Byrkjedalstunet

Hotel
Bed & breakfast
Byrkjedalstunet is a unique and popular tourist attraction in Rogaland, offering warm and cozy rooms in an informal country hotel. The establishment features a bakery, restaurant, and a candle factory. Visitors describe it as an experience that must be lived to be truly understood. The grotto carved into the mountainside offers a cool retreat, while the enormous gift shop provides great souvenir options. Guests can enjoy traditional Norwegian food and picturesque landscapes on the farm.
Amazing spot! Just about an hour to pulpit rock. This hotel is so cute! It has a quaint village vibe with a water wheel, grass roofs, and animals you can pet! The rooms were very very clean and surprisingly modern considering the rustic look outside. There was A MASSIVE gift shop. Probably one of the coolest gift shop buildings I've ever seen. They literally had a candle maker making candles on site. The free breakfast was also good. Just a heads up if you're coming here late, give them a call beforehand. There is nobody at reception but somebody will answer the phone and tell you the lock box code for your key. Unfortunately for us we did not have a SIM card with a phone number so we had to call extremely long distance. We were also able to charge our electric rental car.

We stopped by here on a road trip for a quick break and ended up spending 2 hours eating and walking around. Beautiful and well maintained surroundings and excellent for kids. We regret that we weren’t able to spend the night but will definitely come back again!

We have had a lovely dinner at the restaurant down at the hotel. The atmosphere was fantastic and the girl at the reception was very kind and helpful. The prices are also pretty affordable. Thank you very much!

Great place to meet after a ride in the mountains. Great pancakes and cafe style foods. Great for making candles with the kids too.

We had a lovely stay at Byrkjedalstunet! The hotel is cozy and charming, with beautiful rooms located in traditional-style cottages. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming — it really made us feel at home. We also loved the candle shop next to the hotel — such a unique and atmospheric place, definitely worth a visit! Highly recommend this place for a relaxing and authentic Norwegian experience.

This place was not expected as though. It's really amazing😍 This place feels going back in Norwegian time. Local bakery as well. Clean rooms every day, excellent food and extremely good service. In this case I want to give five starts to a person who really gives you feeling welcome! Her name is Ugne and she handle check inn/ut serving dinner and cleaning up at same time. She makes feels welcomed. 😊
Geir N — Google review
Remember to ask about the sauna and hot tub! If you are looking for true Norwegian quirk, this will fill your cup. Byrkjedalstunet is built like a little hamlet of sorts with an air of excentricity over it. Intriguing stone- and woodwork frames the place, wedged in between forest clad hills. Located at a crossroads, there's nothing else going on in the immediate surroundings, so it works good as a stop-over, but perhaps not so much like a vacation destination. The rooms have a "motel setup" with their own entrances, which adds to the miniature, Hobbit-like village experience. Room interior is a bit sparse but clean and functional. We stayed in a standard double with our dog, so maybe we didn't get the most spectacular one. Breakfast was standard: all good but no extras. No background music made the sitting a little awkward, especially since there were very few guests at the time. The staff was friendly and helpful. About being pet friendly, it was more like "pet accepting": no pet items in the room (bed, tray...) which felt like a pity. What was double extra deluxe was the gift shop! If you are looking for local crafts, delicacies, all-sorts of souvenirs and whatever knick-knacks you can dream up, you have to enter this luring maze of a shop. Give yourself at least an hour just to browse. If I was a local, I would consider having a party here, like big birthdays or weddings. As a tourist, I would stay here again sometime.

Pulpit Rock, also known as Preikestolen, is a renowned 604-meter cliff with a flat top that offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding area. Visitors can take a ferry from Lysebotn to Forsand and then embark on a hike to reach this iconic natural wonder. The hike is not too challenging, making it accessible to most people.
Amazing! It is 8.4km (going and coming back) with 500m elevation. This should be one of the unique view in the world, totally worth. Path is not dangerous or risky. It takes 3 hours more or less - not including the time spent on final destination. Top tip: To avoid the crowd, you can start hiking late afternoon (consider the return time according to the sunset - you wouldn’t want to hike in darkness) We were there on the rock at 5.30 end of the august and there was no single person.
Hakan E — Google review
Great views, hike is, on my opinion, harder than moderate. There were sections that were very steep. And to make matters worse, the wet conditions did not help with grip. Overall, I definitely would hike this place again.
Victor V — Google review
Managed to find the only sunny in between 5-6 rain days. The view, the view!!! Started at 7:30. 1h hike to the top with a nice and steady pace. Beautiful nature along the way. Very nice stony path to protect nature. Some high steps along the way. Early start meant not many people on the way up. Some people coming down after having spent the night at the top. Going down got very busy. Very busy. Funny how so many line up to take pic at “that one spot” which seemed like 3-4-5 other spots there. People telling off people for being in their photo. A bit OTT. Great day out and will do it again!
Olav H — Google review
Among the best hiking spot so far for me in Norway. The hiking trails were very well maintained and suitable for all level of hikers. With a bit of fitness preparation, it should be doable activity. Don’t forget to bring water and snacks or fruits. You should be fine there ✌🏻⛰️🍁
Zaid M — Google review
I recommend going there in the late afternoon. The hike is not that difficult as stated in other comments. I would mark it as a medium one. Just be careful at the rocks when going up/down. Definitely worth it. It took us around 4h return including stops, photos. You need to make sure you have enough water with you and some snacks.
Cristiana — Google review
We are a group of four members from India, who did this trek. We started by 9.00 from the base camp. Climbed up in 2 hrs & 30 mins. It's a moderate level tough trek. We suggest you start as early as possible. So that it will be easy while returning . Carry water with you. Nothing available in the top. There's a icecream shop & a cafe at the base camp. They will accept only cards. Have a safe and joyful trek
Star H — Google review
Awesome hike to the rock but can get busy at times. Only attempt this on good footwear (absolutely no sandals) Time 4 hours top and back plus time for rest stops. Top tip: Make absolutely sure to bring mosquito repellent in summer as they love the fresh water pools you pass on the way up!

An absolutely breathtaking view that photos can't capture. The hike is a solid workout but the reward at the top is worth every step. A must-do in Stavanger, Norway.

I only had an ice cream, which was very nice, but the atmosphere is very nice. Different parts of the restaurant have different styles, so you can choose what suits you best.

I got two scoops of ice cream, a scoop of cornflake ice cream and a dark chocolate and coconut. Then I also bought a s'mores and green tea with sesame chocolate bar. The lady was super nice, I got a taste test of chocolate bars from her. I think the things I got were very good, although not too outstanding. In my opinion the sesame & green tea bar was lacking in flavor,(still better than green tea kit kat) though the ice cream was great. (especially the dark chocolate and coconut)

We only tried the ice cream buffet - and travelled for 45 minutes each way to get here! It's worth it: the flavours are very rich and real, and the array of different ice cream and sorbet flavours is not just the normal selection. For example, Chilli & Pineapple with quite an after-kick. You won't need the sprinkles and toppings - just enjoy the true flavours.

I've been here multiple times and the owner and staff is always so polite and kind, and will usually have a small chat. I love that they also have experiences for kids like candy making! I usually drop buy and buy a unicorn bar. I love how creative and unique their flavors and designs are. Truly a hidden gem!

Theme park
Kongeparken is an outdoor amusement park that offers a wide range of attractions, including water and fair rides, climbing games, bumper cars, and even a teddy bear show. The park is designed to cater to families and kids of all ages, seamlessly blending with the scenic nature surrounding it. Visitors have praised the friendly staff who are proactive in ensuring cleanliness and sanitization throughout the park.
A great park for younger children. Only a few attractions require a height above 140cm. We went on a Friday at the end of the Norwegian summer vacation, and there was no lines except for "bobbanen". There are many tables and grills available if you bring your own food. Food is expensive like in other theme parks. Many of the staff at the entrance and food stalls seemed poorly trained and motivated, while the staff on the rides were friendly
Arild O — Google review
Great place for families with younger children. Not too crowded.
Shaun J — Google review
I visited this amusement park, and it was the worst day of my life. The staff, especially three young women, completely ruined our mood and made us cry. We are tourists, not locals, and we don’t speak Norwegian. When they explained the rules, we were standing a bit far away and didn’t hear that filming on the phone was not allowed. When we were already inside, one of the girls suddenly shouted at us to turn off the phone. I immediately turned it off. However, when we got out, they started yelling at us at the top of their lungs as if we had done something terrible. We tried to explain that we didn’t know and even showed them that we didn’t record anything at all. But they kept shouting and didn’t let us say a single word. Then they wouldn’t let us leave and made us wait for the security for about half an hour. It was an awful experience. Even at the reception, no one tried to help or resolve the situation. I can’t understand what kind of place treats customers this way screaming and humiliating them just because we didn’t hear the information. In the end, we were yelled at for absolutely no reason. We had no videos or photos, but it felt like we had broken some serious law. We left angry, disappointed, and my friend was in tears. I strongly do not recommend going there.

4,5. Great amusement on a hillplace + Much to do for kids 6+ ys. - Constant vacation queue's everywhere. 20m waiting. A bit exhaustive, some stations were closed or opening around 1100. Nice eating/drink kiosks. Need fast-track for disabled children etc.
MediaRevs D — Google review
Hello, We are extremely disappointed with the incident that occurred today, 2025-10-19, in one of your horror rooms. We were treated in a very disrespectful manner – three female staff members shouted at us and did not allow us to explain ourselves. The situation was especially unpleasant, since the issue arose only because we do not understand the Norwegian language.
Tomas J — Google review
Great place both for the family and the kids, a perfect family get away place where every age have something or else to enjoy. Build so nicely that it blends so well with the scenic nature. 😊 Very friendly staff who proactively helps everyone with a smile. I saw the staff continously sanitizing most of the rides like roller coaster seats, supet seats etc after very single ride (I am very impressed !!). Upon enquiry, I was also told that all the attractions are washed 3 times a day. Also there are 50 antibac stations, queue lines with markings so you keep a distanse, plexi glass etc. Before visiting, I was worried due to the Covid-19. So before going, I had written to the Kongeparken about my concerns and they had replied prompty. I was told that they have developed a safe park operations guideline together with the other parks in Norway and Standard Norge. Approximately 10 min drive from Sandnes. I love it 😊. I am looking forward to going there again 🤗.0
Jacob J — Google review
The kiosks had almost no food, and the hot cocoa tasted like plain water but cost 45 NOK (?). The young staff were extremely rude and neglected their work duties. If Norwegians get so offended when someone asks them a question in a direct way, maybe they should reflect on the fact that they often speak to others even more harshly — with disrespect and arrogance. They even yelled at guests and didn’t let a girl leave the room for a long time just because she didn’t hear the rules properly, as the worker had explained them in a very quiet voice. This is supposed to be an amusement park, and many tourists come here — at least repeat the information in English. Hire slightly older employees who actually know how to work and treat people properly, not teenagers who just want to laugh and take out their teenage anger on others. It was my first and probably last visit. Very disappointing experience.
