Vinski Podrum Malca

Winery
Food & Drink
Vinski Podrum Malca is a delightful winery situated on a secluded balcony, providing a peaceful and isolated atmosphere. The view of the small vineyard adds to the charm of this place. The service offered here is exceptionally polite and efficient. It's an ideal destination for wine enthusiasts, as they can indulge in tastings at reasonable prices. Visitors can also enjoy free tours, but it's advisable to contact them beforehand for English-speaking guides.
Wonderful place to visit. Vinary is beautiful and food is perfect. It was too hot outside to take a walk, but that little we saw was very nice. And service is very good 💗
Milica P — Google review
Nice winery with great food and wine tastings for reasonable prices. They offer free tours but contact them a head to be sure that there’s an English speaking guide.
Moritz F — Google review
The wines were surprisingly good, I had never heard of Serbian wines, but I enjoyed the wines I tasted a lot. And the tour around the winery was outstanding, Marijana is an amazing tour guide. She told the history of the winery in detail, explained the processes in an easy way to understand, and was also able to answer all the questions I had. Highly recommended!
Celso C — Google review
Absolutely recommend. Great experience
Đorđe V — Google review
One of the most beautiful winerys I've been to, and I belong to 7 wine clubs. The atmosphere was welcoming and warm. Unlike so many wineries with one big tasting room , there were at least 3 separate, quiet tasting rooms. Serbian house , Roman Empire house, Nemanjic house , The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. Every wine we tasted was exceptional and we purchased several,we purchased multiple bottles, the tasting fee was not waived. I think this is the first review I've ever written about anything. Malča is a very special extraordinary winery from 1904 ...unbelievable! Such a relaxed fun atmosphere amazing wines. You don't want to miss this winery. You will not be disappointed. I read some of the earlier reviews… If you looking for the best wines in the world.... Car Constantin .The wine, customer service, family atmosphere, beautiful location… near city Niš ( city airport is very close )highway Belgrade Sofia near by.It doesn't get any better.Malča Winery with restaurant is the absolute perfect place for a fairy-tale wedding. It is family owned from 1904 and they were so extremely accommodating. They made me feel like I was the only goest , they were working with even though I know they have countless weddings and events there. They opened the venue early for the wedding party ,Jelena hostess, was onsite the whole time to ensure everything was flawless. I especially loved the outdoor ceremony location (incredible pictures, very convenient for guests, and you can't hear the traffic from the freeway) and the ability to move inside if the weather didn't cooperate. They allowed us to bring in children ,we were able to securely leave vehicles in the parking lot overnight when they shut the gate. The owners even took pictures of ceremony and texted them to me the next day - they truly go above and beyond to make your day special (and it doesn't hurt that their wine is delicious :) I would HIGHLY recommend!

Food is great, we were sitting outside on the balcony and it was very nice. The balcony is isolated from the main street and it peaceful, you have a view on the small vineyard. Service was very polite.
Njuksi Z — Google review
Near Niš. vinery which could be visited, examined and explained different kind of vine production. Old Roman style, medieval, traditional and modern way. One can degustate vine and also some special produsts from vine. Restaurant offer domestic etno grill food but also European meals. Beautifull open space with view of planted wineyard and also closed room.

Great ambient, great service! Veal medallion is a bit chewy, but all in all, it was a very nice experience.

Vinarija Jovic

Winery
Food & Drink
Wineries & Vineyards
Excellent family vinery. They produce the entire pallete of vines - riesling, chardonnay, sauvignon blanc, rose, cabernet, vranac and cherry vine. Chardonnay is very, very good, one of the best in Serbia. Vranac is also very good, it is not common variety for Serbia but their is must try, not so heavy as the ones from Montenegro and Hercegovina. Other vines are also of good quality. We injoyed their hospitality and the passion and dedication for the work they do. The region has been producing vines since the Roman times, and you can see grapes and vine pots on all roman grave stellas that are still scatered throughout the landscape of Timok valley.

Excelent winery, amazing plac, nice restaurant, I recomend this place for visit or lunch, be aware booking is required in advance.
Marko T — Google review
One of the best private wineries in Serbia. Famous for their Vranac, Cabernet Sauvignon, Muscat Hamburg, Chardonnay, Rheinriesling and Sauvignon Blanc. If you’re lucky to find the owner when you visit the place, you’ll get an interesting history tour and an opportunity to for fine tasting.

Fortress Kale Momchilo's Town

Fortress
Sights & Landmarks
Historic Sites
Fortress located exactly in the center of the city of Pirot. iI you want a super relaxing walk then you have to visit the fortress, especially since there is no entrance tax and no other tax. It is very easy to reach the location, which is located in a very nicely maintained park. The park also has a playground if you come here with your child
Mitrache I — Google review
Momchilov Grad (also known as Momchilovo Kale or Pirot Fortress), according to legend, it was built in the 14th century by the Rhodopean Bulgarian ruler Momchil Voivoda. It is definitely worth a visit, although the views from it are not impressive but rather disappointing—dirty and in stark contrast to the fortress.
Albena K — Google review
2025: Back ~6 years later. Now a renovated, modern fortress, open for a few hours a day 10 - 15h, free to enter. There are even screens with videos promoting and explaining Serbian culture. I loved it. So glad things have changed for the better! Be responsible and keep it clean. 2018/9: 1*. No actual need to stop here. The fortress is OK, from the outside, but is closed permanently. The garden around it is dirty and really nothing to see. You can stop if you pass by, for 10 min or so, should be enough to walk around it. Pirot's market is a better attraction.
Marin K — Google review
I think this is the second time I come to Pirot, and the second time the fortress is closed an hour earlier than what it says on the sign outside.... not great for the single tourist attraction in Pirot...
Лъчезар А — Google review
A beautiful historical monument of old Serbia. Nearby there is a beautiful park for a walk and a picnic, a nice place to take it with the family.
Ivan D — Google review
It is a great space to explore and visit. You do not have to buy a ticket, it is free. Next to the fortress, there is a huge park. It is nice to stay there on sunny days.
Esther G — Google review
Interesting little fortress with unusual staircase. Open to public without any fee. Well worth a visit if you ever pass by
Clabbe B — Google review
The most interesting thing in Pirot! I would definitely recommend visiting this castle from 14th century. It is located near the city centre. There isn't an entrance fee. The castle is fairly big and well-preserved.

Poganovo Monastery

Monastery

Amazing and very well preserved historical and cultural monument. The monastery is still actively served and the surrounding nature is just as peaceful and quiet as the holy ground itself.
Ronny D — Google review
According to one historical source, the monastery of St. Jovan Bogoslov was built by Emperor Constantine and his mother Jelena, and according to another nobleman Konstantin Dragaš and his wife. However, the most interesting is the myth about Pop Martin and the hidden treasures of Hajduk...
Miljana N — Google review
Monastery in the Jerma River valley, built in the 14th century. Peace, tranquility and spirituality exude this place. It is an interesting fact that the monastery was never demolished and destroyed by the invaders.
Aleksandar R — Google review
Maybe the best monastery around Pirot. Monastery is good looking, with somr tradition preserved, and people there were nice. And now the nature around it, that is something you must visit and feel. It is located between two huge rocks like mountains and it has river with all green nature around it. Air is fresh, smell is perfect and it is really peaceful and calm. Definitely i will visit this at spring or summer, i know that it will be even better looking!
Nikola M — Google review
Easy access, the monastry is next to the river Erma, so closed to the border with Bulgaria-about 30km. and the town Dimitrovgrad. The road is awesome, the nature is amazing. There is free parking area. Interesting history, peaceful place, beautiful architecture and frescoes. You can buy interesting symbols and souvenirs from there, also there are hand made products like cheese, bread and dough. They are delicious. There is a good restaurant closed to the monastry.
Valia D — Google review
A must visit place even if you are not a believer - extremely beautiful surroundings, serene nature, easy to reach with a car, excellent roads.
Koycho K — Google review
Wonderful monestary that's completely restored to it's full glory. The surrounding landscape is breathtaking and the church itself has it's original paintings from 1405. Truly an amazing place and definitely a place to visit! Also there is a beautiful restaurant for the tired travelers which in itself is amazing as well!

Stara Planina National Park

National park
Nature & Parks
Rugged landscape of gorges & waterfalls, popular for swimming, hiking trails & peak views.
Threes awesome spots: Vrelo - spring Kozji kamen - viewpoint - 3.6 km hike to get there but you wouldn't miss it (The best) Slavinjsko Grlo - rocks
Katherine X — Google review
Forget "must see" and "must visit", this should be on the bucket list for anyone living within a 500km radius. Absolutely phenomenal, with so many attractions and places to visit. I've been there five times so far and plan on going many more times.
Vigor K — Google review
Plenty of nature with rural and not much developed villages. Plenty of interesting sites like beautiful waterfall or nerow gorges, but requires a lot of walk. Some sites might be 16km away so for moderate hiking lovers this is ideal place to spend a day. Have in mind that roads can be in highly challenging state. Not for large vehicles like buses. Must be careful for sudden stones or holes at road especially when crossing small bridges.
Ganimed V — Google review
If you really want to relax yourself and enjoy mother nature and her treasures, do visit "Stara planina"! You will never forget the forests the green, the parfume of fresh herbs and grass. You can also meet all kinds of animals. Last time we saw the green river crab in Toplodolska river, lots of protected fish and rare birds. This plase is called "Ogorelica" and it's perfect for a picnick and rifreshing moments in the river!

Belogradchik Fortress

Mentioned on
4 lists
Fortress
Sights & Landmarks
Belogradchik Fortress is a historic site with unique conglomerate rock formations that were once used as fortresses. Constructed by the Romans between the first and third centuries CE, the fortress features openings for guns and three bastions for cannons on its walls. Visitors can climb to the highest point of the fortress, known as the first slab, to enjoy stunning views of the 230 ft. high rocks in the surrounding area.
For Bulgaria road-trip, I voted here to be the best place I have visited. This place is the combination of nature and human creativity. It gives you serene and fabulous feelings. One day, one night is a must to be here at least. I found not so many people here that is lovely when compared as any famous and popular places.

Amazing place, the favourite place of Mr.Musk. You need to see with your eyes, so can feel the real deal. If you want to fly with the balloon, you need to be on site 6:15AM, park in front of the police station and follow the lights :)
Симеон М — Google review
Here’s a more vivid review in English: An absolutely cosmic place — the mountains look as if they belong to another planet. The landscape is breathtaking, surreal, and unforgettable. Truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Alex L — Google review
There is a parking lot right next to the entrance pf the fortress. Paid parking 2,5 euro for the hall stay. The entrance price of the fortress - 7,5 euro 🙄 But the place was okay. If you want to go to the top - there are stairs and right at the top are a lot of big rocks - so prepare the right shoes. You can enter with the dog. The souvenirs are sold right behind the cashier- big stone building.
Iliyana S — Google review
The Belogradchik Rocks in Bulgaria are a breathtaking natural wonder, with towering red sandstone formations carved over 230 million years in the Balkan Mountains. Reaching up to 200m, they create a dramatic, otherworldly landscape perfect for photography. The nearby Belogradchik Fortress, built into the rocks, adds historical depth. The trail has steep, uneven steps, so walk carefully. Bring water and snacks, as there are no facilities. Visit in daylight for vibrant colors or at sunset for a glowing sky—both are unforgettable! A must-see for adventurers and nature lovers!
Hristiyan V — Google review
Absolutely fantastic! We spent almost 2 hours exploring the fortress. There are many stairs, stone and man made, some quite steep... the views are incredible.
Scot L — Google review
Definitely worth a visit. This is one of the most beautiful places in Bulgaria, and maybe in the world. Tip: climb the steps to the top to enjoy the view, but keep in mind that for an elderly person it may be a challenge.
Dimcho N — Google review
Very interesting rocks formation within inserted perfectly the Roman empyre architecture for a fortress. Unfortunately is not well maintained from the staff, not too expensive 7,5€ but it's in a very remote region from Sofia. Better to spend one night in the area to visit also the Danube border region. They use it for events so the installation are unfortunately someway invasive.

Aqua club "Kotvata" - thermal pools & saunas complex

Public swimming pool
Outdoor Activities
Other Outdoor Activities
A completely amazing place: countless indoor and outdoor pools (regular and jacuzzi) at very different temperatures, a sea salt one, and many possible activities meant to keep you and your children busy. Moreover, decent entry prices. We just loved it.
Constantin D — Google review
We had a really nice time here. Unfortunately many of the pools were closed, one cooling pool missing was very inconvenient. Still the pools never got crowded, there was lots of space. The saunas are excellent! Lots if sunbeds available to rest. The bar has very fast service the quality is mediocre. Good choice to relax on a sunny day.
Péter P — Google review
lovely day in the mineral hot water! There are 3 separate areas with slightly similar options each: 1 big swimming pool, 1 or 2 smaller for kids, jacuzzi, 1 very hot pond and a very cold pond). There are 3 saunas + a snack bar with climbing features for kids. Enough chaise lounges and green areas. Pluses and nice surprises: We visited during Easter and they were offering free hot tea. There's no music, which I loved!! People come to rest here not to listen to shitty auto tune trap and cheap electronic remixes like in the seaside. So kudos for the management to let us enjoy the birds, the clouds, the laughter. Another plus : the fence's bushes probably have leaves in summer but now it's too early in the year and we could see the northern mountains, there are some decorations mimicking roman ruins that look great against the modern hotels. The only minuses I can think of : although there are enough ugly signs banning drinking and smoking in and close to pools, people do it anyways... And the snack bar is pretty bad. Go to the restaurant instead - you will spend the same money per person on good food. 1 of the big pools was closed unfortunately, but possibly because the venue wasn't crowded. The changing room I was assigned to was pretty small. It had only 1 tiny bench in the middle of some 30 lockers, so I wouldn't recommend waiting to leave in the last minute.
Victoria G — Google review
Great mineral pools center. Several baths of different temperature, all clearly labeled. Mostly outdoor pools, but also there is a couple of indoor including a hot jackousee. Only one sauna, and was closed when we visited - but I can not say I missed it. The variety of different temperature in pools is superb, from 13 degrees celcius to 42. There is an indoor cafe with drinks and snacks. Super friendly stuff. Towels and robes available for rent, also personal lockers.
Tatiana E — Google review
I arrived later in the day, around 5 and stayed until 7:30 in the evening. By 6:30, the pool was mostly empty and very enjoyable. I got a pizza from the snack bar and it was alright and the pool was good and clean. I don't think for just 2.5 hours, it is worth the price (20lev), but after a day of hiking, it was very much enjoyed and appreciated.
Adra A — Google review
Nice place for summer activity, but in the mountain suround. Great pools, clean and cared place. Nice staff. Parking place on the side. Food and drinks in a few bars and a good restaurant.
Juliana G — Google review
We were with three teenagers for several hours and had a lot of fun. We went from the hot pools to the colder with activities like waterfalls, hoops, climbing wall (small but nice) and ropes. The hot thermos pools were very therapeutic - felt our back improving from the hikes of the previous days. Last thing - food prices were surprisingly reasonable (e.g. 18 leva for 400 gr burger) and we were sorry we ate outside

Гейзера в Сапарева баня

Geyser
Nature & Parks
Bodies of Water
If you come here on January 1 late morning, you'll find a fun mummer/Kukeri festival
Rebekah H — Google review
I don't know who the architect of this thing is, but the overall look of the geyser - the only one in continental Europe, by the way - reminds of a public toilet. Pretty disappointing.
N V — Google review
Being the only geyser in continental Europe it was an underwhelming experience. The park around it was nice and newly renovated
Avram T — Google review
This has to be a joke. Or a scam. First of all, it is barely even promoted, even within the town. A few signs and not much else that somewhat point you in the right direction. But then, once you arrive, it is "under construction". What? it is a geyser, supposedly, it's natural, why would it need to be "under construction"? Gave me scam vibes like they were just pumping hot water from some underground man made pool or something. Don't waste your time.

It's easily accessible from Sofia by public transport or private car. The mountain provides various paths for different levels of hikers and adventurers. Vitosha Mountain is an absolute gem and a must-visit for nature lovers and adventure seekers and anyone looking to escape the city for breathtaking views and fresh mountain air. Just a short drive from Sofia, this stunning mountain offers a perfect mix of hiking skiing and panoramic scenery that feels like stepping into a postcard.
Mohamed O — Google review
Easily accessible by bus and car very close proximity to the city. All kinds of trails from easy ones to more difficult. Very quiet and peaceful during the work days less so on the weekends.
Ianaki I — Google review
Beautiful mountain, different paths, I took the Cherni Vrah path but a storm started but anyway I handled it till the end. Strongly recommend to visit the mountain and even stay there for a day or two. On weekends you can take the metro untill Vitosha station (1,6 leva) then walk straight a few meters and you will find the bus stop, I took bus 66 until Moreni hotel in which I stayed one night too(they have the cutest dog in the world and he is 17 years old!!). The bus cost is also 1,6 leva, first Bus start from 8:55 from the first station and arrived to the bus stop around 9:10 am.
Hatulitos T — Google review
Loved the hike. April start is the best time for the trek. You have a small café on the top that serves food. Don't miss thus trek if you are in Sofia.

Amazing hike, if you're a beginner it might be slightly difficult for you but worth it !!! Took me 1h50 from Golden Bridge to the top of the mountain.

We traveled by private car to Simeonovo to take a cable lift there. Unfortunately and please bear in mind that it is opertaing only on weekends during summer time. The lady at the entrance told us that there is other way by car from Aleko hut. The road is ok also for normal cars. Once you reach the place you will exprience a spectacular view and I recommend to take red track to go up.
Lukasz D — Google review
The summit it self is not very spectacular, quite flat. There is a challet there where you can buy a tea or a coffee. This mountain is better for mountai biking than for treking. The shortest route starts from the refuge Aleko where is a ski lift and a parking place.

Boyana Church

Orthodox church
Sights & Landmarks
Nestled on the outskirts of Sofia, Boyana Church is a captivating medieval Bulgarian Orthodox church that has earned its place as a UNESCO World Heritage site. This charming structure boasts stunning frescoes from the 11th to 13th centuries, showcasing some of the finest examples of Bulgarian medieval artistry. Visitors can also explore nearby attractions like Boyana Lake and the Dendarium, which offers picturesque walking paths and family-friendly facilities.
This historic monument has been well preserved and maintained. It feels calm due to the park and the trees around. You need to buy a ticket to enter inside and view the frescoes. Although they are from 1255, it's really well preserved. Once you enter inside the small church with a ticket, you have 10 minutes to admire the artwork. The basic amenities are well maintained. The only annoying thing was that there was no way to regulate the entry and one had to stand in the queue. There are quite a lot of buses that ply to the church everyday and are well connected with public transport.
Arun K — Google review
There’s not much to see at all… until you enter inside the church (for a fee)! To be honest, I don’t think I would have been able to appreciate as much the inside as well, if we didn’t have an actual tour guide to explain things. Do note that the interior of the church is small. And entry inside is timed by the caretaker to 8~10minutes per group. The main attractions were seeing the three parts of the church and the many beautiful frescoes inside which told so many different stories - interestingly, both Biblical and of the local history of the region. The small church itself is located in the compound of a botanical garden, but the garden itself didn’t seem to have anything unique about it. Boyana Church is one of Bulgaria’s 10 UNESCO Wolrd Heritage Sites.

WOW. Absolutely stunning! Talk to the kind, gentle and knowledgeable guide inside and he will explain the frescos, the history, the significance. You're supposed to only get 10 minutes, but as there was no one waiting to come in we chatted for about half an hour. An absolute gem of a place and we'll worth a short ride out of the city. The area is lovely to walk and perhaps head up the mountain too.

A must-see in Sofia! Boyana Church is absolutely stunning — the frescoes are breathtaking and incredibly well-preserved. It’s amazing to see such important medieval art up close. The setting is peaceful, surrounded by trees, and the staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. A true UNESCO gem and a highlight of my visit to Sofia!

Peaceful and beautiful monastery This monastery is truly a hidden gem – peaceful, green, and with a calming, almost spiritual atmosphere. The architecture is stunning, and the whole area feels very well preserved and serene. Just behind the monastery, there’s also a trail that leads into the forest – a perfect spot for a quiet walk in nature. Highly recommended for anyone looking to relax, reflect, and enjoy some beautiful scenery.
Eyal L — Google review
The frescos are amazingly well preserved, and some brief context is given at the start of the 10 minute viewing window. Kind of a trek out ~50 min from the historic old town/Serdika area but easy to get to with public transit. Worth going to especially if paired with the national history museum that’s a 20 min bus away. There is some uphill walking. I recommend in the morning as only ten people are in at a time, so when you arrive and buy a ticket, you then wait for however many sets of 10 mins until everyone in front of you has gone in. They make sure you have a ticket but not what time, so make sure to stand in line at the church or else others can pass you
Kat N — Google review
Even if you have only 10min inside it’s worth it! You need to experience the frescoes in person, they’re simply breathtaking.
Radoslav P — Google review
This is a short visit but an opportunity to see remaining frescoes in the church. You can see 3 transitions of the building from outside, and the grave of a notable leader.

Sights & Landmarks
Saint George Rotunda Church, located in Sofia, Bulgaria, is a significant historical site as it is the oldest surviving church in the city and one of the oldest in Europe. Dating back to the 4th century, during the Roman period when Christianity was recognized as an equal religion in the Empire, this cylindrical red brick church with a frescoed dome holds great architectural and cultural importance. It is situated near remnants that suggest there may have been another building at its location initially.
A beautiful church in the center of Sofia. This is the oldest building in the city, dating back to the 4th century. It is built with red bricks from the outside. Although it is very old, the church is well preserved. It's nicely decorated inside, but it's a bit cramped and can't hold more people at once. There is no entrance fee. Inside you can buy cheap souvenirs.
Spase M — Google review
Really interesting the way it is situated in the court yard of the government buildings. Very rich and elegant inside in spite of what it looks like outside. I would say, go if you have time, if not, you can place it lower on the priority list. So many amazing museums and art galleries to visit so plan your time well!

The Church of St. George is a truly remarkable place, the oldest preserved monument in Sofia. It is a small red-brick, circular church dating back to Roman times, set among modern buildings, which makes it even more fascinating. Inside, you can admire beautiful Byzantine frescoes from different periods, ranging from the 4th to the 14th century, well preserved and rich in detail. The atmosphere is intimate and spiritual, giving you the feeling of stepping back in time. It is easy to visit, with free entrance, and is located right in the city center, just a short walk from St. Nedelya Cathedral. An unmissable stop for anyone visiting Sofia, both for its historical significance and its unique beauty.

The oldest building in Sofia, and a miracle that it survived wartime bombing and communist indifference. Layers of history, beautiful ancient frescos and an unusual and interesting location. Free to enter, like most churches in Bulgaria. You're not supposed to take photos inside ;)

The Rotunda of St. George is one of the oldest buildings in the city, dating back to the 4th century. Its red-brick construction, circular plan on a square base and roughly 13-metre dome create a compact volume rich in history. The official office of the Bulgarian President is housed in this building and therefore the building's honor guard and the guard exchange ceremony, which takes place every hour and can be viewed free of charge (except Saturdays and Sundays). At the entrance to the building are two armed soldiers, dressed in ceremonial uniforms from the 19th century, including a hat with a feather and rifles from this period. The ceremony lasts for five minutes! There are four soldiers who are replacing two who are standing outside, with whom they can also be photographed, if they arrive before the shift begins, and there are two more who are inside the president's house. It is recommended to arrive a few minutes before a round hour.

Located in the heart of Sofia, the Church of St. Nicholas the Miraclemaker is a striking 1914 Russian Orthodox church with a vibrant tiled exterior and gilded onion domes. Designed by Russian architect Mikhail Preobrazhenski in the Russian Revival Style, it served as the official church of the nearby Russian Embassy and community in Sofia. The architecture is reminiscent of Muscovite Russian churches from the 17th century.
a spectacular church - I particularly love the gold trim. it makes it seem super ornate and beautiful. it’s very nice inside but you can’t take pictures so you’ll just have to take me at my word for it. you can also go downstairs into the crypt which is cool. also they have paintings of biblically accurate angels on the walls which is nice to see
Antonia P — Google review
If you are interested in a better angle for photos, head over to the back of the church by the park. It is less busy and more chances of you getting a solo shot. This is the more humble and smaller church in the old city of Sofia. The architecture itself is reflective of most Orthodox Christian churches with the orb cupolas which are glistening and gleaming of gold. Still a cool stop to make during your walks!

I was truly impressed seeing this church, even if only from the outside. It looks like it came straight out of a fairy tale! The Muscovite-style architecture is very rich, full of details and vibrant colors. What stands out the most, without a doubt, are its golden, onion-shaped domes, which shine brightly and stand out in the city center. It is a unique building, different from everything around it, and perfect for taking some memorable photos.

The Basilica of Saint Sofia, a 6th-century Byzantine church, is a stunning architectural marvel in the heart of Sofia. Its largely brick interior and captivating paintings, along with an underground crypt, showcase a blend of Byzantine and Bulgarian Revival styles. This historical site holds great significance to the city's history and was built on the grounds of ancient churches and a necropolis.
The Church of St. Sofia is a place full of history and charm. Walking through the ancient brick walls and exploring the ruins beneath is like stepping back in time. The underground remains offer a fascinating glimpse into Sofia’s past, making this site a must for history lovers

One of the oldest Orthodox churches in Sofia. You can sense the age of the building which was built in the 4th century. It's worth the visit since it's dedicated to Saint Sophia. Unfortunately, the only negative experience was the rudeness and hostility of one of the staff. I didn't realize there was a fee to take photos, so the man approached me aggressively to demand the fee. There's no problem, I considered it a donation but, I hope someone could talk with this staff for a more friendlier approach.
Ash — Google review
This church is one of Sofia’s most important historical landmarks and among the oldest in the region. It was built in the 6th century during the Byzantine Empire, and its red-brick architecture and imposing dome reflect the solidity and simplicity of Byzantine style. The building’s architecture is quite different from more ornate cathedrals, showing a rustic charm inside, with thick walls and narrow windows. The church’s simplicity and austere appearance create an atmosphere of serenity, calm, and contemplation, leaving a strong impression while telling centuries of history. Visiting the main church is free. For those who want to delve deeper into the site’s history, there’s a fascinating archaeological museum in the crypt. This underground section displays the church’s ancient foundations and Roman tombs from the old city of Serdica, with mosaics dating from the 3rd to 5th centuries. Entrance to the archaeological museum is paid (around 3 euros or 6 BGN).

The Patriarchal Cathedral of St. Alexander Nevsky is a renowned Bulgarian Orthodox church featuring stunning Neo-Byzantine architecture and an underground museum. Constructed between 1882 and 1912, it stands as one of the most significant landmarks in Sofia, honoring Russian soldiers who fought for Bulgaria's liberation from Turkish rule. This grand cathedral, named after a 13th-century Russian prince, is not only a place of worship but also a top photographic site in the city.
This place is stunning. The cathedral looks amazing, the entrance is free, but donations can be made, there are special boxes inside. Also, there is a small shop at the entrance, there you can buy souvenirs and candles. The place is not very crowded, we arrived in a Sunday evening and there were no issues. Definitely worth visiting when in Sofia.

Sofia’s most iconic and grand cathedral, and its size combined with its stunning architecture gives it a truly commanding presence. Construction: Built between 1882 and 1912 to honor Russian soldiers who died during the Russo-Turkish War (1877–1878), which liberated Bulgaria from Ottoman rule. Architectural Style: Neo-Byzantine, with striking gold-plated domes and intricate frescoes inside. Capacity: Can accommodate up to 5,000 people, making it one of the largest Eastern Orthodox cathedrals in the world. Features: Lavish interior with marble columns, mosaics, icons, and a massive iconostasis. Significance: Serves as the patriarchal cathedral of Bulgaria, a national symbol of faith, history, and Bulgarian liberation.

The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is absolutely stunning and definitely a must see in Sofia. The architecture is breathtaking, from the golden domes to the beautifully detailed interior. What really impressed me is the feeling this place gives you. It truly evokes emotion, reflection and a quiet sense of presence. Inside, the frescoes are exceptional, full of depth and beauty, and they make the whole experience even more meaningful. Even if you have seen many cathedrals before, this one really stands out. Iconic, impressive and full of history, it adds something special to your time in Sofia.

The Saint Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is one of those places that truly catches your eye the moment you see it. Its massive size, golden domes, and unique architecture make it stand out instantly in the city. You can’t help but stop and admire it from the outside. Once you step inside, the atmosphere completely changes. It’s quiet, spacious, and full of beautiful details. The murals, icons, and soft lighting create a calm and almost mystical feeling that makes you want to walk slowly and take everything in. One of the best things is that entrance is completely free, so visiting is very easy. The area around the cathedral is also lovely for a walk, taking photos, or just enjoying a bit of local life.

I was lucky enough to walk in during service and it was magical. There was a beautiful choir singing and the sound was spectacular. I was in tears. The building and the energy almost commands you to be present. The visitors were very respectful. A must visit. I would assume Saturday afternoon is when they have a service.

Free entry. You can either pray or visit or both. One of the most iconic landmarks in Sofia with pure golden roof finish donated by Russia long time ago. Inside, all those riches and hand painted pictures of all Bulgarian saints. Regardless of your faith, it must been seen while visited Sofia.
Krzysztof Z — Google review
A breathtaking masterpiece Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is one of those places that compels you to stop, look up, and remain silent. Its grandeur can be perceived from afar, but it is only when you get closer that you can truly appreciate every detail: golden domes shining in the sun, a majestic facade, and an almost magical feeling that accompanies every step. Upon entering, the atmosphere changes completely: soft lighting, the scent of incense, and wonderful icons that tell centuries of faith and history. Even those who are not religious cannot remain indifferent in the face of such beauty. Everything seems to speak of spirituality, art, and Bulgarian identity. I recommend visiting both during the day, to admire its architectural magnificence, and in the evening, when the lighting makes it even more evocative. A must-see for anyone passing through Sofia: it is not just a cathedral, it is an experience that remains in your heart.

Amazing! It does not take longer than 30 minutes to visit. The cave is smaller compared to others but it is definitely worth it to see. They are giving audio guides that explain and lead you through the cave. The formations are cool and they definitely bring a lot to the cave’s name.

Beutiful formations! This cave is one of the best I have visited so far. I didn't expect how huge it is! It was like a hike. So much climbing, a bit of crawling. It wasn't hard, but so much fun! Just expect there are a lot of stairs!

We had such a great time here, highly recommend! It’s fun for both adults and kids. Just make sure to wear shoes with good grip, as it can get slippery. One thing to note: there’s no English tour guide, so if you don’t speak the local language, it helps to read up beforehand. Still, we thoroughly enjoyed the experience and hope you will too!

Very interesting place for people who appreciate such things. Guide was very friendly but English is bit of a challenge. This is a must visit for people who love natural history and geology. It is also very interesting for people who enjoy dabbling in mythological history, as the caves offers a number of mythological tales and connections. The drive to the place is also very scenic. Not sure if public transport reaches the place. For some reason there are no immediately available toilets. The staff send you uphill towards the kiosks outside while kiosk operators send you to the building outside the Caves...
Kevin B — Google review
Nice place, some places could be not appropriate for big people
Alexei R — Google review
The cave itself was very interesting, however i do not think it is kept “untouched” and safe from visitors. Lots of people threw coins in places, which I do understand is part of the culture, but nonetheless- not the place to do it. Because of all of the lamps, now some plants and moss has started growing. Overall, my biggest issue was with the lack of consideration from the visitors with children - if your child shouts and runs in there and ruins the whole informational speech from the guide, maybe, it is not the best place for 2-7 year olds.
Natalia S — Google review
I recommend visiting in the winter as you can get very nice frozen structures, which can represent the much slower forming cave structures. Also, it's it's a much less busy season, and you can get a more personal tour with the extremely friendly staff. Even though it can't be proclaimed as an "untouched" cave, it has interesting history and lots to see. Be prepared for some tight passes and having to bend down occasionally.

I think the experience is worth the 35 lv price of admission. (although there was no reduced price for a 3 year old). only three complaints: - the kids pool needs some sort of shadow over at least part of it. - there was absolutely NO soap in any of the dispensers in the bathrooms. - the deers in the zoo had a very small and dry enclosure, with zero shade in the 40 degree heat. they were agitated and clearly miserable. not a good animal to keep in such poor conditions. the place would make a better impression not having deet at all.

Prohodna Cave, an 860-foot-long karst cave with two large eroded 'eye' holes in its ceiling, offers a fantastic opportunity for a daily escape from Sofia. The natural beauty of the cave is truly breathtaking and it's free to enter and quite safe, making it ideal for visitors without experience or equipment.
A Natural Masterpiece – Truly the Eyes of God! Absolutely breathtaking! Prohodna Cave is one of the most awe-inspiring natural wonders I've ever visited. The two symmetrical openings in the ceiling — famously called the “Eyes of God” — create an atmosphere that’s both spiritual and surreal. When sunlight shines through, it feels like you're being watched by the heavens. The cave itself is easy to access, with a short walk from the parking area, and there’s no entrance fee. You can walk through the whole cave in about 20–30 minutes, but take your time — it’s worth soaking in the view from all angles. Bonus: if you're into adrenaline, there's bungee jumping from the large entrance (only on certain days). Rock climbers also use the area, but even for a casual visitor, this is a must-see. Tip: Wear sturdy shoes — it can be a bit slippery, especially after rain. Definitely one of Bulgaria’s hidden gems. Don't miss it if you're in the region!

Amazing place! Visited Monday evening and there were just few people. There is another entrance from the other side and locals use that entrance since there is no hiking required at all (not sure about the road quality though). But we were the only ones who parked at Google spot. The climb is kind of steep at some places. Good shoes are the must!
Lyudmila M — Google review
Fantastic place!!! Breathtaking scenery and views! You do not have to pay or buy tickets and there is a free parking! If you have good sneakers, I suggest you visit the monastery (there are signs showing direction).
Zelionii K — Google review
A beautiful cave with high ceilings and open fresh air. Very good for people with claustrophobia, light and air are always abound. Small cave and easy to explore, a few parts of it are a bit slippery though so appropriate shoes would be advised. The highlight of the cave are the two eye-like holes in the ceiling that look like eyes, and hence the name “eyes of god” they have. Reaching the rear opening of the cave there are paths that lead downwards to the banks of a river and then theres another path that leads up the mountain,to a little monastery made of stone. Very dangerous path that one, proceed only with caution,if at all.
Ivan M — Google review
Beautiful cave, mesmerizing. Unfortunately, too many people don’t know yelling in caves is the worst idea, because the echoes amplify the vibrations and make the very unstable rocks fall
Anton G — Google review
A Must-Visit Natural Wonder Prohodna Cave, with its famous “Eyes of God,” is absolutely worth visiting — it’s one of the most impressive natural sights in Bulgaria. Walking through the massive cave is an unforgettable experience, and afterward, you can follow a path leading to a stone monastery and even climb higher for an incredible panoramic view of the surrounding gorge. It’s an easy trip with stunning scenery and a unique atmosphere — don’t miss it if you’re in the area!
Minas A — Google review
Great cave. The path continues and ends up at a guest house in the mountain with an amazing view and food at the restaurant.
Ioannis M — Google review
What a natural miracle. Beautiful place. The view from the top is breathtaking.Make sure you have non slip shoes especially if you explore the paths in the back. It's so peaceful to walk and hear the birds and the river. A must see spot.

Saeva Dupka Cave is a fascinating destination steeped in history, having been inhabited since Roman times. This stunning cave not only showcases remarkable geological formations but also serves as a unique venue for live music concerts, adding to its charm. Visitors can embark on small group tours that include the nearby Gods Eyes Cave and Glozehne Monastery, allowing for an immersive experience of Bulgaria's natural beauty and rural tourism.
Fun experience! Worth a visit! There is a parking lot. At 7pm on a Saturday there was space to park. Parking was free. There are public washrooms before the cave but they are poorly kept. The attendant at the ticket office was very kind. Once entering the caves it was cold, pants and jacket recommended. Inside the caves it was a cool experience to see all the different geology. It tool about 30 minutes to see all of the caves inside. The walkways can be strep and slippery so good pair of shoes recommended. The guide did not speak English but tried to explain as much as possible in gestures and few English words.

Beautiful! Camera/pictures can’t fully highlight the beauty! The surroundings of the cave gives the feeling of a garden park;fresh air! We arrived and parked the car in the free parking area. Then we walked for about two minutes—or even less—and reached the ticket office. The first person we saw didn’t speak English, but within 30 seconds, another man appeared who did speak English. He seemed like the manager or someone in charge and told us we could enter. We went in without paying and without a tour guide. After about 23 minutes, we came out and were then asked to pay . After paying in cash,we asked the English-speaking man if he could tell us a bit about the cave, and here is the information he shared: • The cave has 99% humidity. • The temperature inside was 8°C. • It is 250 meters long. • It features stalactites and stalagmites. • There is 1 cm of growth between them, which takes approximately 150 years to form. • The cave was opened to the public 56 years ago. • It is 3.5 million years old. • It was discovered by two brothers. FYI: 1)Close to the free parking area, there’s few covered areas to sit and eat. (2)Before entering the cave, there is toilet by the other side of the cave entrance once you pass the ticket office and come down the stairs. 3) Working hours Or 01.01. 10.30.09. 9,00am-1800(6pm) Last entry into the site 17,30(5:30pm) Or01.10.10 31.03, 9,00am- 17, 00 (5pm) Last entry into the site at 16,30(4:30pm) 3)You pay only in cash as of when we visited.

I visited a large cave recently with a guided tour at first, which was really informative and engaging. After the initial walk, we were allowed to explore freely on our own, which made the experience even more special. The cave’s size and rock formations were truly impressive. Outside the cave, there was a little box with baby chickens, which I absolutely loved — such a cute surprise! A unique and memorable adventure for nature lovers.

Stunning caves! Huge internal caverns. Visited on a Monday (am). Only a local coach school trip there and no queues. Free parking, toilets and a small shop. Well maintained paths (had been heavily raining for last couple of days but no issues). Imagine in summer it could be busy and experience longer delays. Some (optional) steep stairs inside, may not suit all.
Andrew M — Google review
A very well maintained, unique looking cave. The guide was extremely well versed and engaged with the group, sharing interesting facts.

This is one of the most beautiful caves we have ever visited. It is quite large. You can pay in euro or leva (July 2025). Definitely worth it! Keep in mind that the road to the cave is a disaster, be careful while driving! We visited it in the morning and there were a lot of free parking spots. The price is 12leva/adult and 6 leva/child.

Very nice, big, bright house with nice yard in front. Totally worth buying ticket for 5-6 houses in the city, a lot of history in it and good spirit. Second floor is very nicely decorated and cosy.

One of the most beautiful museum houses in Koprivshtica. You can buy a full ticket for all 6 at a decent price, but a thing they don't tell you is that you can pay a bit more and get a tour guide. However if you don't there is plenty of information everywhere in Bulgarian and English.

My favourite one... The unique house of Dimcho Debelyanov, frozen in time! You will feel the atmosphere of a by gone Era where the poet created, and you will enjoy the beauty and tranquility that emanates from every corner. The monument of Dimcho Debelyanov's mother, who stands frozen in anticipation of her son's return from the war, may sadden you a little, but it will also make you reflect. Highly recommend visiting it!
Moto M — Google review
My favorite house is this one, Dimcho Debelyanov's house is unique. With the entrance you will feel the atmosphere of another Era where the poet created, and you will enjoy the beauty and every details of the house. The entrance is free, you can donate money if you want, with 2 floors. You might feel a little sad atmosphere when you see his mother monument, waiting for him to come home as one of his most famous poems says. I Highly recommend to visit it.

Pleven Panorama

Museum
History Museums
This museum features a panorama depicting the Liberation of Pleven in 1877 & a rooftop viewing area.
Must see building designed to show the battle for Pleven in 1877. We visited the exhibition and the panorama with a group of Bulgarians. The guide spoke Bulgarian. The tour was perhaps a bit on autopilot but it did make all the events clear. For the non-Bulgarian speakers there are clear text boards in English. Worth the visit for the wonderful building alone.

Fabulous and beautiful painting in 360° depicting the 1877 war. Great guide talked us though the details.

The Pleven Panorama is truly a must-see. The main panoramic hall is breath-taking – beautifully crafted with incredible attention to detail. It brings history to life in such a powerful and moving way. The entire experience was impressive from start to finish. The tour was well-organized and informative, providing valuable insight into the Siege of Pleven and Bulgaria's history. A unique and unforgettable place – I left genuinely inspired. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Pleven!

Well worth a visit, the panoramic painting is impressive and nothing like I've seen before. Painted by multiple artists with 3D items in the foreground brings it all to life.

The Pleven Panorama is really impressive – both the building and the massive painting inside. It brings the Siege of Pleven to life in a way that’s easy to follow, even if you’re not a big history buff. The mix of art, dioramas, and artifacts makes it feel very immersive. Plus, it’s set in a lovely park, so the whole visit is worth it. Definitely a must-see if you’re in Pleven.
Rambo P — Google review
Pleven Panorama (Панорама "Плевенска епопея") is one of the three war museums in Bulgaria as a whole. It provides all historical stories about the battle in Pleven, involving Bulgarian, Russian and Romanian soldiers against the Ottoman armies. This Pleven battle eventually led to Bulgaria's independence from the Ottoman "yoke". The top floor has an amazing painting which is 15m high and 115m long, and done by only 13 artists within 4 months. Most impressive of all is that this museum was built purely by the Bulgarian people's donation without any government budget. The great people have created a great museum to make a history of the great battle for freedom. It is a must place for anyone who visits Pleven and indeed Bulgaria itself.

Covered Bridge

Bridges
The Covered Bridge, also known as The bridge of Kolyu Ficheto, is a charming pedestrian bridge that captivates visitors with its beauty. Built from wood and overlooking the river Osam, it stands out as a unique attraction in Bulgaria. Inside the bridge, there are various shops selling handcrafted products, including leather bags and wallets. While some visitors find the bridge enchanting and reminiscent of bridges in Florence, others feel that it lacks modern amenities or historical information.
Symbol of the greatest times of Bulgaria. Beautiful architecture and it’s kept the old spirit. A lot of small stores inside with souvenirs.

This is such a charmful bridge! Reminded me of the one in Florence. It is beautiful, but still it looked a bit outdated, lost, empty for a Sunday afternoon. There is a very small cafe inside and plenty of souvenir shops (but most of them sell same items). Would have been nice to see something of the history of the bridge or maybe little lights inside or outside, in the evening. Something was missing, but still is beautiful and worth the trip !
Alina B — Google review
It’s a place that keeps the old arts and crafts alive. It’s not big, it’s not much, but it is an interesting part of the town. The area around it is nice for a walk, especially when it’s sunny. There’s a nice cafe next to one of its entrances, but none of the places there accept card payments. Luckily, there are a few banks abd ATM’s nearby.
Gabby C — Google review
Quite a nice covered bridge. Designed and built by Kolyu Ficheto from 1872 to 1874. The best pictures are taken from the regular bridge a bit further. In the covered part of the bridge are many shops that sell the same tourist stuff. I found the atmosphere a bit desolate and it didn't make me very happy.

Devetashka Cave

Devetashka Cave, located near Lovech, is a historically significant karst cavern that once served as a shelter for prehistoric humans and later as a military site. The cave's vast interior is illuminated by natural skylights, creating a tranquil atmosphere and offering stunning views perfect for photography. Well-maintained paths make exploration easy, while diverse bird and bat species make it a haven for wildlife enthusiasts.
I highly recommend visiting this cave if you are in the area! The entrance fee is 3 BGN/adult and you can pay by card. There are some outdoor toilets (construction site type). The parking is free and plenty. We visited on a Saturday afternoon in June and there were 5 other people there. From the parking to the cave you walk for 5 minutes. Don’t worry bats won’t attack you. I only saw one and many many birds 😃
Tudor I — Google review
Ticket 1.53€. Credit card accepted. Portable toilets. Plenty of parking space. Smaller areas were all blocked off to not disturb bats.

A beautiful place to visit in hot summers to hide from the heat. The landscape and the wilderness of the caves is from another world. A relaxing walk to remember.
Legend C — Google review
Amazing! Incredible, huge (outdoor) cavern/cave complex. Visited on a Monday after some exceptional local rainfall — boots were essential, as it was very muddy (though I don’t think that’s typical). Truly stunning, with ecological importance (massive bat population) matched with a Hollywood back story. Check when visiting as some parts only accessible at certain months of the year. Portaloos available (and clean). Really reasonable entrances cost! Genuinely friendly local artist selling everything from magnets to paintings etc — with no pressure at all.
Andrew M — Google review
The cave looks stunning. In the pictures you can't really understand the size of it. We went in this weekend. It was not entirely visitable because the bats are in mating/breeding season. Definitely worth the trip. I uploaded only the pictures with the entrance. P.s. if you're sensible to bad smells, there's a section where you can hear the bats (thousands of them) but the smell is pretty bad.
Dan M — Google review
A nice cave, but nothing more than that. Entrance requires a ticket. Part of the site is closed, and there isn’t much to see inside. As expected, there are signs of vandalism, such as fire pits. If you’re already in the area, it’s worth a quick stop, but I wouldn’t make a special trip just for this.
Katy I — Google review
A nice place to visit if you’re coming from Romania for a one-day trip. 🎟️ Tickets: Cash only (in leva). The price is 5 leva per adult and 3 leva for students, but they offer discounts for large groups. We were a group of 40 students and paid just 1 leva per person!

Mountain waterfall with clear blue pools at its foot, accessed by riverside trails through woodland.
Beautiful. We came during autumn. Be careful with leaves as the trail can get a bit slippery. If you go left (blue trail) be prepared to go up on some steps, but it's doable. If you are not used to doing exercise, I don't recommend doing that trail. The second one is very easy and pleasant. I did both and it was really fun

Delightful multiple waterfalls found at the middle of a short lovely hike, not difficult at all. Walk slow to enjoy the area. There is no clear sign pointing to the waterfalls hike. Don't go up the stairs, just keep right.
Ela I — Google review
The falls are beautiful, the path's well-built (even though some seemingly interesting parts are closed since many years due to their damaged state). There is no connection between the blue and the red path, except at the beginning. BUT! They do not accept card, only cash. And only Leva, no EUR (though the prices are written in both). The highly unfriendly cashier lady does not speak any language except Bulgarian and simply leaves after an angry Bulgarian monolog.

The Monument of Liberty in Ruse is a significant tourist attraction located in a beautiful park. It was built to commemorate the liberation of Bulgaria and Ruse from the Ottoman Empire's rule in 1877. The statue depicts a woman holding a sword, facing North towards Russia, which is part of the city emblem's design. Initially, it was supposed to have a statue representing Tsar Liberator Alexander II on top, but citizens opted for one symbolizing freedom instead.
Nice monument, very central, seems maintained. Loved the lions.

My wife had a hard time convincing herself to jump even though it was a gift for her birthday. She enjoyed this experience and the professionalism of TNT Brothers enormously. From what she said, it was an unforgettable experience and she recommended this company to everyone because she felt safe throughout the jump thanks to the information and instruction she received before the jump from the instructor.

You can get the whole package here, from skydiving school - AFF, tandems and coaching for any levels and of course fun jumps all the way to 4000 meter. The staff's professionalism and dedication to safety made the entire experience thrilling and worry-free, even when the adrenaline was at its peak. Everything runs like clockwork, and the community here is simply fantastic. I highly recommend it to anyone eager to dive into skydiving!

One of the best moments so far in my life. Beside the experience that was insane, the staff there are amazing. They truly know how to prepare you before the jump. And when I say prepare I don't mean just about the equipment I mean mindset prepare. They give you the perfect feeling when in doubt. If I need to describe the experience: CAN'T WAIT TO DO IT AGAIN! P. S. It was my first time so I had my doubts. No more doubts I guarantee.
Andreea A — Google review
First things first. Do not believe people whining about delays in their jumps. Unless it's technical or weather related (both crucial for your safety) there isn't any delay. My check-in to getting on the plane was within 30 mins. Coming to the review, the location is beautiful and picturesque. Nature all around. My tandem diver Ramiro (sorry, I'm probably not using the correct name) was warm, chilled, attentive n very experienced. He had to be. This was his 12001st jump. Immediately put me at ease. Camera guy Dan was really cool too. Recorded the whole thing and more. The people there will put u at ease from the get go. Mixed emotions, definitely nervous as the gate opens before the jump. Luckily u spend less than 2 seconds at the exit point to rethink what you feel is a bad decision :)). And when you r out, Omg!!! For those brief 5-6 mins, your brain forgets EVERYTHING and is just in AWE. You get a bird's eye view of one of the most beautiful cities in the world. I was literally dancing out of pure joy when we landed. My only regret is all of it got over too soon. I wish I could feel the way I felt for longer. One thing for sure, you feel a sense of achievement over fear for achieving the feat. Will definitely come back to Tnt next when I'm in Bucharest. TNT Bros, thanks a lot you guys. I'm aabid randhar. And i jumped on 6th oct 22.
