Långe Erik, a limestone lighthouse built in 1845, stands on a small island connected by a bridge to Öland's northern coast. The area around the lighthouse includes a beach and pier at Kopingsvik with fine sand and clear water. A small village was constructed around the lighthouse to support its operation, complete with a school for the children of the keepers.

National park that ends in a light house. We cycled there ftom Byxelkrok, really enjoyed the cycle, cycke lane in good condition. Peaceful and quiet at the end of summer after most other tourists left. Picturesque nature, loved it.
Costas P — Google review
A very friendly and cool place to visit on Öland. The drive to the lighthouse is an experience in itself. The lighthouse has an interesting history as well. It's not as tall or popular as the southern lighthouse, but this just adds to the charm. Also, it sits on its own small island too. Nearby parking accepts RVs for overnight as well.

Långe Erik lighthouse on Öland is a hidden gem! The climb to the top rewards you with breathtaking views of the island and the Baltic Sea. The peaceful surroundings and picturesque scenery make it a perfect spot for a relaxing visit. The lighthouse is beautifully preserved, offering a glimpse into maritime history. A must-visit for anyone exploring Öland!
Ajay K — Google review
Lovely landmark. You can climax the lighthouse for a nice view. Not spectacular. Easy to access.
Hans V — Google review
The lighthouse itself is very pretty and the view is fantastic. There are good parking possibilities for both bikes and cars. The wait to get in was understandably kind of long as we visited in week 29, the most common vacation week in Sweden. However it was a tad too difficult to understand where to buy tickets, and the price was double that on the Öland tourism website. Price for an adult in July 2023 was 60 sek.

Borgholm Castle, located on the west coast of Öland, is a stunning 17th-century Baroque castle ruin that has been home to royalty and prisoners alike. The castle offers guided tours and hosts various events, including concerts. Originally built as a fortress in the 13th century, it was later transformed into a grand palace by Charles X Gustav in the 17th century.
Nice castle, with a free app to download for an audiotour. Great feature! Really well organised, especially for children with fun medievel games for them to play. An afternoon well spent.

Nice old castle. But there is not so much to see because only the walls are left. The museum is a small history of the castle. But there was a really nice temporary exhibition called "Forgotten places".
Tina W — Google review
In Sweden, öland has lot of places to see and this castle is definitely should be in your list of you live in Sweden. Once I went to the Örebro castle literally there was nothing. But Borgholm castle was amazing with sea view. Car parking is available. There are few small boutiques to buy ice cream and souvenir. Tickets should be buy at the entrance. They have explained history for every corner of the palace. There was a room which was in ground, mentioned as dragons world. Everything was worth to see. Deserve five stars. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Best treasure hunt ever for kids. An easier treasure hunt for the little kids, where they have to find eggs. And a more difficult one for older kids, with great riddles and an amulett. Our kids said it was the best castle and treasure hunt they've ever been to. The castle and the exhibit is really nice. We enjoyed our stay and it was absolutely worth every krona.

Borgholm Castle certainly worths a visit while one visits Öland. It's a big castle with many rooms and picturesque views. There is a permanent exhibition about the history of the castle and temporary exhibitions. When we visited, the temporary one was about forgotten places and it was very well made and fitted the mood of the castle. A negative aspect is that the café only works during on season which is very short in Sweden. It ends middle of August when many international tourists still have their holiday.

Kalmar Castle

Mentioned on
31 lists
Castle
Sights & Landmarks
Kalmar Castle, situated in the city of Kalmar in Sweden's Smaland province, is a captivating historical site that offers visitors a glimpse into its 800-year history. This Renaissance fortress boasts fairy-tale turrets, a drawbridge, and even a foul dungeon with secret passages. The castle played a pivotal role in Scandinavian politics, notably during the formation of the Kalmar Union in 1397. Guided tours are available to help visitors appreciate the significance of this magnificent relic.
There are so many things to see and learn inside the castle, it is probably one of the main tourist site you HAVE to visit while in Sweden, at least if you are fond of history and architecture. You could spend the whole day inside and never feel tired. The castle' state of conservation is truly remarkable and the depiction of life in the middle age/renaissance is astounding. It is obvious the staff worked overtime to provide such a level of precision. Don't forget to look up for the ceilings, they are beautiful. I visited the castle during the Häxor exhibit and it was both immersive and moving, even for a foreigner, I can't even comprehend the amount of work that was needed to create such a masterpiece, even the poster is a work of art. I don't know who directed it but they are very talented. When you're done visiting, climb up the walls and enjoy the view. All in all, I came back with 400 pictures of the castle, that speaks for itself. It is hands down one of the best places in Sweden.
Stanislas T — Google review
Don't miss the castle if visiting Kalmar! The mummy exhibition is both interesting and fascinating at the same time. Make sure to set aside a half day if you want to go through the castle & mummy exhibition the same day. Comfortable shoes, you will be stepping stones for hours. The park outside the castle is very nice to relax in. You can find rare trees and flowers planted there, each with a little sign of name and year it was planted. Some are very old.
TheTasteSensation — Google review
This was our second visit, and we loved it again. They have fun stuff for kids to do, and the castle itself is interesting to explore. The food in the café is good and reasonably priced. The staff all speak English and many seemed to speak German as well (and Swedish, obviously).
Deirdre M — Google review
Beautiful castle but no way worth the entrance fee. Perhaps if you want the 'included' guided tour or you have small kids to take on the challenges, or you really want to see a random Egyptian exhibition it might be worth the money, but if you want a self guided tour and learn about the history of the castle yourself it's not worth the fee. Recommendation - charge a more reasonable base entrance fee then people extra if they want a guided tour or to enter the Egyptian exhibition.
Mike B — Google review
Beautiful and well preserved castle in Kalmar with lots of interesting history. The guided castle tour is recommended as well as to visit during one of the many events in summer.
Gb — Google review
Liked: - Even though it is largely reconstructed, its exteriors are a view. - Their guided tours are nice, even if not the best. - Kids can enjoy at least for 3-4h, so it is a plus. Lacked: - A comprehensive timeline chart like the one in Borgholm slot. - A clear and chronological understanding of the exhibition of Kalmar slott history.
Omkar J — Google review
The castle was really fascinating. The souvenir shop was also very interesting but a bit pricey. Recommend visiting!

Virum Älgpark

A fantastic family experience – up close with moose! We visited Virum Moose Park a few days ago, and it was truly one of the highlights of our trip to Sweden! It was the first time we had ever seen moose so close – we even got to "kiss" them! Both our children and we adults had a great time, and we can highly recommend this place. In addition to moose, there are also goats, pot-bellied pigs, and fallow deer to see and pet, which our kids especially enjoyed. There's also a nice grill area on site, perfect for a relaxed lunch in nature. A wonderful and memorable outing for the whole family!
Matthias M — Google review
Visiting Virum Älgpark was a fantastic experience. It’s amazing how close you can get to the moose — much closer than expected! You’re given plenty of potatoes to feed them, and there’s definitely a good chance to see them up close, pet them, and even give them a kiss if you dare. The guides are great and make sure everyone gets a chance to feed the moose. A super fun and unique experience, especially for animal lovers!
Evert J — Google review
Those who bought the tickets online go through the entrance first. We chose to sit in the roof of the safari vehicle, the train moves very slowly so sitting on the roof wasn't scary. Once we arrived at the feeding zone, the attendants gave us potatoes to feed the animals, where we touched their soft horns and nose. After at least 20 mins in the enclosure, we drove out and the moses went to rest in the shadows. Afterwards, we got our sausages, barbecued them and made a sandwich. We walked on the bunny trail, bought souvenirs and left. The price is too high for what I experienced and expected. I would have loved to have more information about the history and the mission of the park.
Victoria N — Google review
Hands down the best experience we had in all of Sweden. As if the moose Safari and the fun train car caravan was not fun enough, we were able to buy hotdog and sausages to grill over an open fire. We also petted a bunch of sweet goats and got to feed them. The owners were super nice and down to earth and put a lot of love and care into creating this very unique experience. Must do! Our kids loved it and so did we.
Susan P — Google review
We had such an absolutely wonderful day at the moose park. The staff are incredibly friendly, and the park is set in a beautiful, idyllic location. The whole experience was just amazing. The moose are unbelievably gentle and sweet. I think I might just move here and become a moose keeper🫶🏻😍.

Great place. Really cool for children. Good idea the possibility to cock the sausages on the fire with sticks after safari.

Amusement park
Astrid Lindgrens Värld is a child-friendly theme park located in Vimmerby, Sweden, where visitors can immerse themselves in the world of Astrid Lindgren's beloved characters. The park features sets and characters from the author's books, live shows, and playgrounds set against the backdrop of Småland's nature. Visitors can explore Astrid Lindgren's childhood home at the nearby Nas farm.
Great overall experience. We were there on a weekday before vacation time to avoid too much crowd. Nice for both kids and adults and even though our kids are a little too young (4 and 2 years old) to be a perfect match for the theme park we all had a wonderful time. Awesome performances from the actors and really nice to stay a while AFTER each performance to meet and play with the actors, doing some small playful tasks with them or hear them sing etc... We were there two days to stress less and have time to see more of the performances. One day could work to see some shows and explore the rest, but two days are probably the best if you have not been there before and want to experience most things! Highly recommended 🙂
Ola J — Google review
If you know some of the Astrid Lindgren stories it's lovely to walk around and see all the small worlds built up. Many play areas for kids, lots of food options, green areas where you can sit and relax or have picnic. The theatre shows are wonderful, good length, well done and fun, our soon to be 5year old loved them. We felt satisfied after almost 4 hours in the park but I know a lot of people stay a whole day or even two days. We had a dog with us, they're allowed but not everywhere inside buildings and so on.
Linn V — Google review
We really enjoyed our visit with our 6-year old kid. After the first day, we even upgraded to a second day (which gives a bit of a discount) to really explore everything the park has to offer. The theaters were very well and professionally done and our kid watched almost all of them, even if not understanding Swedish. It was great that actors stay around between shows, giving live to the whole scenery, which can also be freely explored. The only downside of the park is the food, which had a quite limited choice and the price/quality wasn't perfect. But overall, we definitely enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and liked the park!
Andreas J — Google review
Lovely place but it’s just too expensive and to be honest the whole experience was moderate simply due to both tickets and things in the park being a rip off. For marginally more we could have got 7-10 days in the Mediterranean which to be honest I’d prefer. Shame with the greedconomy…
Fredrik S — Google review
Worth the money! High quality shows, with an incredible ensamble, giving their all, despite the summer heat. Interacting with the children after every show! They also used real animals in some of their shows, a horse in Pippi and a real hen in Emil (seemed happy and the horse was in the ahade eating treats). Lots of places to eat, with vegetarian options, toilets were very clean. Several places to refill water bottles and no problem finding shade on hot summer days. Also a little petting zoo, with goats and their babies, at the "Leklandan". No wait at the entrance, we were there 3 minutes after opening. About 6-7 min traffic queue. I recommend going 15-20 min minutes before opening if you want to be on time.
Nathalie — Google review
What a great experience! It's like an open-air musical / theatre festival with several short shows from the most famous Astrid Lindgren books and characters. You can move from stage to stage and dive into Katthult, Villa Villekulla, Mattisborgen to see the performances, take a look behind the stages and interact with the actors between the plays. It seems that everyone loves their jobs here and likes to create a great experience for the whole family. My favorite were the Ronja Rövardotter performances. The entrance is quite pricy but it is worth the money. The performances are in Swedish but you'll get the story anyway. Pack some snacks and clothes for all weather conditions and spend the whole day here. 😍🏰🏠🌈
David G — Google review
Astrid Lindgren's World is incredibly fun for both kids and adults. There’s live entertainment all day, and although the performances are in Swedish, they’re still easy to understand even if you don’t speak the language. A great touch is that after the shows, you can take photos with the actors, which kids absolutely love. You can also walk into the houses and sets used during the performances, making the whole park feel immersive and full of life. Highly recommended!
Evert J — Google review
Astrid Lindgren’s World is truly a magical place for children and adults alike. The park brings Astrid Lindgren’s beloved stories to life in a way that feels authentic, creative, and full of heart. Every little corner is beautifully designed, immersive, and thoughtfully crafted — it genuinely feels like stepping straight into the world of Pippi Longstocking, Emil, Ronja, and all the other characters. The live performances are a real highlight. The actors are fantastic with children, full of energy and warmth, and they recreate the stories in a way that is both fun and engaging. Kids are invited to join in, explore the scenery, and interact with the characters, which makes the whole experience unforgettable. The park is clean, well-organized, and extremely family-friendly. There are plenty of play areas, places to rest, and restaurants with kid-friendly options. You can tell that everything is designed with families in mind — safe, comfortable, and easy to navigate. What I love most is how much joy the experience brings. Children can explore freely, use their imagination, and discover the stories in a hands-on way. It’s a place where creativity and childhood magic truly come alive. If you’re visiting Sweden with children, Astrid Lindgren’s World is an absolute must. It’s not just a theme park — it’s a beautiful celebration of stories, imagination, and childhood adventure.

Sights & Landmarks
Växjö Cathedral, located in the southern inland of Småland, is a must-visit when in Växjö. Founded at the end of the Viking Age by English missionary Sigfrid, it has undergone several alterations and rebuilds over the centuries. The cathedral boasts a combination of architectural styles and modern pieces, including a new font and an altarpiece designed by a renowned contemporary artist.
It is lovely! Definitely a unique building and a charming church in Växjö, we were lucky to experience a performance by a brass band. 🎺📯

We always visit a church when we visit a new town. This one was different. A bit sober, but the organ player did very well and created a beautiful atmosphere.

Beautiful Cathedral with amazing interiors and furnishings. The glass works are just stunning, if I'm not wrong I think they were made by Swedish glass company Kosta Boda with designs by famous glass artist Bertil Vallien among other artists from different periods. Worth a visit (plus it's free entrance)

It is always great to find such stillness and peace in a city, to be able to draw near to God and feel his healing love.
Benjamin D — Google review
A must when visiting Vaxio. The cathedral provides a combination of architectural styles but what is truly attractive is the modern pieces, especially the new font and the altarpiece designed by a famous contemporary artist and which offers a full tale (front and even back!) of various religious stories and symbolism, including a very personal memory from the artist himself. The original church dates back to the XII century but has undergone many refurbishments and alteration. Its unique history and variety of styles offer tourist a depiction of the history of the city and Sweden.

Has roots in the early Middle Ages and the legend of St. Sigfrid is linked to the oldest cathedral of Växjö, who was bishop church already in the 1100s

Nice place for a family trip, especially if you have a kids. This place best suites for Kids who loves nature Those who loves nature and hiking Lots of birds and different architectures, you can find lots of viewing points around the reserve. Best time to visit this place would be in spring. They have nice binoculars.
Muthukumar T — Google review
It focuses more on the birds, and the evolution of Tåkern area. I liked the binoculars that help to observe the birds closely. The display that helps to identify the sounds of the birds is a good start for beginners. My kid loved the two short guided tours about insects living in the woods, and in the water. There are hiking trails around, their bird observation tower is large enough for a group. There was tea/coffee but some eatables would have helped. It takes quite sometime to thoroughly visit the naturrum, and take a walk around. I highly recommend it.

Brahehus Castle Ruin

Hilltop remains of a stone castle built in the 1600s, with views of the lake & farmlands below.
We visited here as when we drive through the road and suddenly saw the castle from road. It was worth it to stop for a visit. The view with the sea and castle was amazing. There is no historical things to see inside of castle. It just the breathtaking view from all the Windows of castle as inside of it mostly broken But its really worth to see it specially in summer. I will recommend you this much more than Örebro castle.Check my photos and videos so you can take a idea.

I was told about this spot from a local Swedish worker. It is a small castle with an amazing overlook of the lake. The castle is run down but was built in the mid 17th century. The views are breath taking and definitely a can’t miss spot for a fifteen or twenty minute break. You will have to park at the rest stop across the highway from the castle, but there is a walking tunnel that is a short two minute walk and there is always plenty of parking. If you are headed this way don’t miss this great view from a 1000 foot cliff with a great feel of Swedish history!

High Chaparral

Theme park
Water & Amusement Parks
Western-style park with a recreated town hosting live action stunt shows & fun learning experiences.
Very good for kids of all ages and grownups. It has something for everyone. A big plus are kid carts that you can rent at a very little cost and you can carry your kids everywhere. Won’t be bringing the stroller next time. A lot of food restaurants at decent prices
Roxana P — Google review
High Chaparral is so much more than a theme park — it’s a living, breathing memory machine. From the moment you step into the dusty streets lined with saloons and old Western facades, you’re transported to the world of cowboys, Native Americans, gold miners, and steam trains. Every little detail — the stagecoach rides, the wooden toys, the smell of smoke from the old steam engine — reminds you of legendary Westerns like The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Rio Bravo, Mackenna’s Gold, or Dances with Wolves. If you grew up watching shows like Zorro or reading Huckleberry Finn, this place will strike a deep nostalgic chord. The park brings to life the spirit of American frontier times with a Scandinavian twist — complete with exciting street performances, cowboy duels, and even a spicy Mexican food court that makes you feel like you’ve traveled from Michigan to Mexico City in minutes. It’s a celebration of cultural storytelling and imagination, filled with nods to film legends like Clint Eastwood, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, Yul Brynner, and directors like John Ford. Whether you’re a family with kids or a grown-up looking to relive old movie dreams, High Chaparral is a beautifully designed, deeply emotional, and surprisingly authentic experience.

I visited my daughter in Sweden and this is where they took me , loved it was great fun , a live stunt show and the line dancing was hilarious, the instructor was so funny , well worth a visit , lots to do also for children, it would easily fill your day
Josephine M — Google review
Wow, what a place to spend a day at. Worth spending a full day there.. Kids and adults liked it a lot. However, when we took the train, an amazing cinematic scene was done by the crew, but some of the kids got scared. It looked so real to them. A great selection of food with reasonable prices. Parking is paid
Malak O — Google review
Place is a must visit for both adults and kids. Plan the visit as per shows timings. There are few rides on payment basis like train ride etc. Restaurants also available inside premises.
Chander V — Google review
The shows are great, there are some nice restaurants. That are not overpriced so plus for that. The toy guns, hats and belts are not overpriced in the kids section. Before I come to the cons I understand that theme parks have to make money to pay for staff, maintenance and so on. But it's a bit pricey. 399kr for entry, 60kr for riding the train every singel time per person, 30kr to rent gold wash pan (you get a fake gold coin at the end so that is that). The bathrooms vary but the ones in the museum was not great and had the worse smell of sewer. Overall it's Okey, go for the shows.
Fredrik — Google review
Fantastic place to take the kids (both big and small!! 😉). Wonderful shows that don't take all afternoon (max 25 mins), stunts, singing and generally enjoyable. Shows are performed in Swedish (to be expected!) But it's OK not understanding the language as the acting makes up for it. The actors who come out to meet you after the shows do speak English as well and are all up for photos being taken. We paid extra for a second day (worth it!) As we didn't make it around for everything the first day. We went during 1 of the fellesferie weeks which meant it was really busy but we still hot to do everything and see everything so no complaints from us.
Amanda ( — Google review
Very cool park. The interactive plays are very cool for the kids. It's a shame that the train ride costs extra; the tickets to get in the park are expensive enough, but the ride was very cool.

The whole area is amazing. The building is a part of Swedish history. There's a restaurant, or if you want, you can bring something on your own and sit in different parts of the area. If you pass Torpa stenhus, you will reach amazing forests and lakes all around where it's possible to sit and just enjoy the beauty of nature.

Gorgeous historical building with a small seperate museum. The lady guiding us around was excellent! Small minus: the stone house and the museum are ticketed separately and tickets can be bought only by Swish or you can pay by card at the restaurant but there is no info regarding this. A minus if you’re coming from abroad where the payment system Swish doesn’t exist. But well worth visiting regardless 😊

This place was recommended by some friends who live in Boras and I'm so glad we came, it's like walking back in time and the guided tour was wonderful( just a heads up it's in swedish) I would definitely recommend if your planning a trip to Sweden 🇸🇪

Very interesting castle, it's amazing how well preserved it is. Staff is very friendly. The only slight inconvenience is that english guide is available only at 11am on the weekends, but an english guide book is provided, which is great - I would advice to have around 2 hours to explore the castle and read historical references. Bonus point surroundings are very beautiful.
Alina P — Google review
Very old building but well preserved. Plenty of parking available, there is a public toilet available outside close to the parking.
Wachira L — Google review
AMAZING!! I went in without a tour but a info folder that was handed to me. Mind blown! This castle that looks fairly square on the outside has many layers inside and ’in between’ areas, a dungeon (of course) and so many stone stairways. It’s like stepping back into time. You can just imagine being there back then. Great information on history and persons in every room. Go and soak up the atmosphere!! Ps: I noticed this really nice, peculiar odour throughout the castle, from top levels to the dungeon. Very consistent, no ’hotspots’ of this nice subtle smell. I asked the lady at the front outside desk what it was assuming they had placed the scent but she had never noticed. If anyone knows what it is, please respond to this. I want it in my house! Also a nice café just next to Stenhus and toilets. Enjoy!

Very beautiful castle with quite the story. They even offer guide books in english and german. Can only recommend it, the tivket price is very fair. :)

We took the English tour and were absolutely impressed. Coming from a region in Germany full of castles, we had high expectations and this one met them in every way. The guide was fantastic, full of fascinating details throughout the tour. Afterwards you can explore on your own, wander the grounds and take beautiful photos. What made it even better: our guide stuck around at the entrance to share extra tips about what to see next in the area. Highly recommended for anyone who loves history and stunning sites!

Borås Zoo is home to 65 species, featuring naturalistic enclosures for African savannah beasts and Nordic animals. The zoo offers a diverse range of wildlife from different regions. It's a great place to observe and learn about various species in well-designed habitats. Whether you're interested in the majestic creatures of the African savannah or the unique animals native to Nordic regions, Borås Zoo provides an opportunity to witness these magnificent creatures up close.
It's amazing to see some animals I haven't seen since I last was in Kenya, and some new ones. Get up-close to elephants, giraffes, bears. It's really nice. Be prepared to walk though. A nice, lovely Sunday afternoon walk viewing the wildlife.

Borås Zoo is a charming and intimate destination, ideal for families with young children. Despite its smaller size compared to Kolmården Zoo, it offers a well-curated selection of animals and a family-friendly layout that allows for easy exploration without being overwhelming. While there are fewer scheduled activities like feeding times, the zoo compensates with its relaxed atmosphere and the engaging nearby dinosaur park, which features life-sized replicas that captivate young visitors. Convenient paid parking is available, enhancing accessibility. Overall, Borås Zoo, with its manageable size and additional attractions, makes for a delightful and worthwhile day trip.

The zoo is very well maintained, and the exhibits are close together, so it was easy to get around with the kids and see a lot without long walks. During summer, plan extra time for the children’s fountain area and bring swimwear.

Well-known superstore selling diverse goods on an expansive property with a campground & hotel.
Easily my favorite outlet store in Sweden. Super big store with a lot of different products at lower prices. Not recommended for me to travel here often because it gets expensive due to cheap prices. 😅 It has a cafe, restaurants and everything one needs to spend the entire day in the store.
Joy G — Google review
Finally a store that has some - not much - mama clothes! Their kids clothes department had a good organization, there were signs where you can see the size of clothes you are looking for so you don't need to look through the whole department. On the other hand, if you download their own map over the store you can see they have marked up the store by letter+number combination. Very smart thinking but they fall half way. At the map you can also look for what you might be looking for... Maybe it's like for me mama clothes but no, it's not specified where by letter+number you can find it in the store 😐 So one have to disturb the staff everytime you can't find the stuff you are looking for. 🫤 So one could have been much more independent if one just have the information... Maybe an app over the departments if it changes a lot, could be next step? To visit early in the morning, midweek, was a really good idea. It got crowded first around lunchtime. If you are quick you can be done by lunch.
Malin S — Google review
Chaos...chaos..chaos.. The prizes are maybe somewhat lower then usual, but thats only the case when you buy in bulk and really need it. We ve scored some Legos for some kids back home, because that's the only thing that was cheaper. Because it's so big and busy, we couldn't see everything, be sure you arrive in time and take a couple of days to visit.. For us, yeah it was fun, but not sure we'll go back again..

Would 100% recommend for tourists very interesting and impressive

So many items to shop, Mind will be bombarded for first timers, Need to plan and lost down items and go to that section and buy, thats it. I felt Many items are less price compare to other place . There are 2 restaurant to eat. It worth to travel from far if you are planning to buy like more than 10k Sek..
Basavaraju N — Google review
If you need your day to day items shopping done this is a good place to be at. Especially if you need quality clothes for babies/kids without spending a fortune. But don't expect to be buying in bulk and make huge savings. The prizes are the same or just below as other budget stores in Sweden. But you will not have any problem finding what you need in the same store.
Erik J — Google review
What a store, unbelievable experience!! Never thought such a store exists in Sweden. Never have I been to such a large store with so much different things! They literally have everything, outdoor furniture, shampoo, breads and soo much more! As a tourist you have to visit this place.
Dennis M — Google review
There is plenty of parking in close proximity to the entrance. Once inside you will be greeted by the great assortment of clothes (some of which are by known brands such as Hugo Boss). There are also many other products and some restaurants. The only negative is that it’s often quite crowded, expect so wait in line at the counters for at least 10 minutes.

The Halland Museum of Cultural History, located in an ancient seaside fort, offers a glimpse into the rich past of Halland. The museum showcases human remains from the Middle Ages and exhibits on local history, including evidence of Viking settlements dating back to the 8th century. Visitors can explore medieval castles, quaint fishing villages, and learn about the region's contested history between Denmark and Sweden.
Great experience, it has information in English and Swedish. It shows a lot of history about Varberg and Halland County. It was worth it buying the ticket and helpful staff who provided us with a discount for students.

Here the remains of the old mud man mudgerd från mudbäck are displayed. You can see mud around his bones and also displayed in a special exhibition on the colours of mud. If you like mud you can by it in the museum's store. The store people can tell whatever you want to here about the purpose of this mud. Just tell them what you want to use it for, they'll repeat it then. Have fun and mud on!

Interesting and interactive museum which offers a lot to see. Temporary exhibitions, impressionist artwork, the history of Halland and the Bocksten Man are just a few of the things you can see here. This makes the entrance fee quite worthwhile.

Tjolöholm Castle

Castle
Nature & Parks
English-style castle in early 20th-century decor, with landscaped park & gardens, plus guestrooms.
Castle Visit (Not Stay) I am lucky I visited this castle and took a guided tour. The entire premises (Entrance/parking/gardens/Cafes/The Castle itself) are well maintained. The castle is in excellent shape and very elegant. Just imagining what the original residents must have felt to stay here. The guided tour is nice. Gives quick insights into the castle history. There is a nice beach behind the castle. In a summer, families can arrange a one day picnic to this place. Tourists should allocate around 3-4 hours to visit the place in its entireity. Tickets can be purchased on site. There is not much rush.
Eshant S — Google review
Visited from a cruise ship while docked in Gothenburg. Firstly it is not a hotel but a visitor attraction and museum. It took us around 30 mins on the coach to arrive at the castle but it is well worth the drive. It is now a museum as such and is very well maintained. We had a guided tour and the history was explained very well from the castles conception to the family that built it (actually a Scotsman). What I liked most was that while it is a museum walking around it still felt lived in and quite homely to me which added to its attraction. All the original artefacts and fittings are still on display and there is plenty to see. There is some great views from the windows and the gardens are well maintained. Everyone in our group thoroughly enjoyed the guided tour and I would consider it a must see attraction when visiting Gothenburg. You can get afternoon tea if you wish but unfortunately we did not have the time for that.

Right. So you get to Tjolöholm. And of course, being in Scandinavia, it's a few minutes past 5 pm, so the doors are all locked. Perfectly predictable, isn't it? A bit of a shame, but as it turns out, it really doesn't matter. Even from the outside, the place is just brilliant. My word, it's a magnificent, imposing building that looks like something out of a film. And the location? A proper triumph. Perched right there, overlooking the water. It's utterly stunning and perfectly placed. It proves that a place can be brilliant even if you can’t get inside. It makes you feel genuinely happy for the person who lived there. A proper, lucky soul.

I love visiting Tjolöholm castle, although its more like a stately home. You'd never imagine this place in Sweden, its more befitting to a victorian family in England. Not surprising as it was built as a tribute to a Scottish business man by his widow. Lots of interesting rooms to visit. It's changed since I first visited 30 years ago. Definitely worth a visit. Great cafe on-site! Car park could be closer. My sister struggled to walk to the home due to recovery from surgery but persisted.

Visited Hede Fashion Outlet recently and had a good experience overall. The outlet has a nice atmosphere-spacious, clean, and not too crowded. It's a great place to spend a few hours shopping. You'll find many big international brands, especially for dresses, bags, and shoes. Prices vary-some stores offer real outlet deals, while others feel more like regular retail with small discounts. But if you look around, you can definitely find good bargains. There's also a small selection of cafés and restaurants to take a break-like Espresso House

The place to be if you know which brands you need. It is a compact outlet centre so the number of brands is very limited. You get good deals though. The parking is huge and free. For those who get hungry from carrying all the bags: there are restaurants and bars.

This outlet is quite different from what you might know from countries like Germany or the Netherlands. It is smaller, the selection is less, and it is super empty. However, the salespeople are very nice and try to help wherever they can! Compared to the aforementioned countries, the prices are significantly cheaper. Therefore, it is definitely worth a visit to save some money.

Museums
Universeum is a top-notch museum for kids in Sweden, featuring seven floors of interactive experiences with themes like the brain, the ocean, and space. The museum boasts a huge diplodocus at its entrance and is located near Liseberg amusement park. Visitors can explore large aquariums, a rainforest with tropical birds and butterflies, life-sized dinosaurs, and even experience Swedish wilderness and space travel. Additionally, the Universeum Science Discovery Centre offers interactive experiments and a rainforest exhibit.
A fantastic place for both adults and children! The facilities are very clean and well-maintained, making it a pleasure to visit. The restrooms are spotless, and there is also a small café where you can take a break and enjoy a snack. The exhibition is divided into several themed zones, each offering something unique. The tropical zone is particularly impressive — it’s quite hot inside, so I recommend not bringing warm clothes, otherwise you’ll just end up carrying them around. While there aren’t a huge number of animals, the way everything is presented, the design, and the overall concept are truly impressive for both kids and adults. The large aquariums filled with different species of fish are especially captivating, giving you the feeling of being immersed in an underwater world. This is definitely a place worth visiting with the whole family. It combines entertainment with educational value, leaving you with vivid memories and a strong desire to come back again.

Overall, decent experience, but after visiting a few places like this around Europe it is unfortunately average. Animals are few and between, some tanks are dirty and with a lot of green algae. My child had a decent time but as a adult you would expect a little bit more.

Such an amazing place! A must visit if you go to Gothenburg There is something for everyone here- space, dinosaurs, science, aquarium, rainforest, kids place area. There is a cafe and restaurant on site too, we went to the cafe and the food was lovely we got a grilled cheese and a cookie. The place itself is fantastic, there is so many opportunities to learn things and to get involved in activities. It truly is such a lovely place that you can spend hours in! Would definitely recommend!!!

Great experience! I actually went twice during my visit to Gothenburg. I went by myself at first and spend 1.5 hours there, enjoyed it so much that I went again with my partner for another hour. So much to see and enjoy for all ages. Definitely recommend visiting. It was a bit busy when I went during the day because there were some school classes also there (a lot of kids). The second time I went an hour before closing and it was quieter then.
Sarah H — Google review
Was a bit disappointed, there were a lot of aquariums or displays « in construction » or empty. The aquarium side seemed to be a bit abandoned. There was still a lot of information given by the posters. The rainforest was very nice, with birds flying freely in the space. Again, many things were just empty. It is nice that you have other exhibitions includes with you entry (body, space, data). It’s very kids oriented. Normally I enjoy aquariums as much as kids, but for this one I should’ve skipped it, not enough fishes (no jelly fish for example, very few mantras, lack of fish in the big fish tunnel). Good thing is after 16:30 it’s only 200kr!
SB — Google review
It's nicely designed & well made, we loved it! -1⭐️ because they (currently?) have a massive spider problem! Codwebs are EVERYWHERE & you genuinely have to be careful from spiders hanging from ceilings (we had to duck under 3 & probably still disturbed some nets) It therefore looks a little badly taken care of because of that.. So be warned it you suffer from Arachnophobia haha
Schnuds — Google review
A full day of fun, learning, and exploring nature! Universeum is great for kids and families. Don’t miss the incredible Wisdome experience; the 3D universe and T.Rex shows were highlights. Be sure to ask for the English recorded machine if needed. The Aquarium and reptiles section was very good. While the Rainforest was good, we noticed many animals were missing and could only spot flamingos. Despite the missing rainforest residents, the overall experience was excellent and highly recommended.
Chakradhar — Google review
Honestly, it's a bit for kids but me and two other 40 year old men still enjoyed it. Go in, go to the elevators at the back and go to floor 7. We went in after 3pm so it was cheaper. From there there's a series of ramps and you can basically walk down through the whole building. Floor to ceiling fish tanks, reptile area, space and science area with a cloud chamber that was cool. Little screen with some cool videos. Then you can go through the hot house floors, nipping out through the airlocks to checkout the floors adjacent on your way down as it's very humid in there, breaks recommended. For us it filled a few hours and one of us needs a walking stick so highly recommend that top down route for that reason.

The Garden Society, also known as Tradgardsforeningen, is a well-preserved 19th-century park located in the heart of Gothenburg. Established in 1842, it offers visitors a chance to wander through lush rose gardens, woodlands, and admire sculptures. The park features historic buildings dating back to its establishment and a striking Palm House inspired by London's Crystal Palace.
🌸🌷🌿 Trädgårdsföreningen – A Blooming Paradise in Gothenburg 🌿🌷🌸 What a truly magical garden! 💫 Bursting with flowers in every color and shape imaginable 🌺🌼🌻—and buzzing with happy insects enjoying the nectar 🐝🦋. There are cozy benches scattered throughout the park 🪑🧺, perfect for taking a relaxing break if the garden’s size feels a bit much for one stroll 🚶‍♀️. The atmosphere is peaceful, fresh, and full of life 🍃🌞. 🍰🍦 The café is a treat—delicious pastries for grownups and refreshing ice cream for the kids. A lovely spot to enjoy a sweet break in beautiful surroundings ☕🥐 The grand glasshouse was closed when we visited 🚪❌, but honestly, the garden itself was so spacious and full of charm that we didn’t mind one bit 🌳💖

I went to this part of Gothenburg to see a concert at the Trädgårdsföreningen park in the city centre. The Garden Society building itself was being renovated so I was covered in scaffolding and wind sheets, and it was temporarily closed to the public. The park and gardens outside the building were a wonderful setting for the concert, next to the river. There was a peaceful, relaxed vibe and the Swedish city folk are friendly, sociable and welcoming. It’s an immaculately, clean city.

There're many paths running through, as well benches to rest and places to picnic or just lay on the grass. The Palm house is currently closed for renovations. We were there during ACDC concert, so it was packed with fans.

Gothenburg Botanical Garden, also known as Botaniska Tradgarden, is a sprawling and tranquil oasis that offers a serene escape from the city's hustle and bustle. Established in 1916, this expansive 432-acre garden is one of Europe's largest botanical gardens. It features over 16,000 plant species, including rare and endangered ones, housed in greenhouses with exhibitions.
Beautiful Garden with loads of different plants and trees. You can walk around and enjoy nature. It’s wheelchair accessible but the garden in total is having some steep parts. The restaurant in the garden has some really delicious food for reasonable prices. The entry is free but you can pay something if you want to help keeping the garden - amazing concept. I will definitely come back here ❤️

One of the largest botanical gardens in Europe. Free admission, with optional donations. It feels more like a vast natural park — almost like a national park — right in the middle of Gothenburg. Perfect for picnics, sunbathing, or hiking up to a small mountain that was recently cleared after being overgrown for decades. Walking here feels like stepping into wild nature. Highly recommended for stress relief.

Well kept charming botanical garden! Its so lush in greenery. Landscaping is stunning! There are plenty of walking paths as well as running. Its a green lush haven from the city. Can easily take the tram. Very much worth the visit!

Like many things in Gothenburg there is construction and/or renovation occurring and the botanical garden is no exception as the glass houses are being replaced and won’t be open until 2030. The map of the garden is a great guide but recommend going to the wild side, Smith Valley and getting to the high point with great views.drop down from here into the rock garden with the waterfall. Definitely worth the visit.

Great place for the weekend - lots of pathways, interesting and unusual plants. There is also a cafe along the way and the gift shop and restrooms. Admission is for free, with possible volunteer contribution. Really worth visiting ! Can’t wait when the greenhouse will be opened.

Really amazing this place, it's so nice and big. I need to visit it one more time in spring to see all the flowers. But beautiful to take a walk in the park.

A lovely place to enjoy nature and take in the colors and scents. Wide variety of plants and flowers. Peaceful, well-maintained. Amazing hiking trails with breathtaking city and nature views. I loved the place!
Marijana — Google review
It is a nice, diverse garden with different sections. It also goes up quite a bit, so be prepared. The mainroad is easy to walk, at some places it gets quite steep. This could be difficult for older people or people with children. Additionally, there are many side ways but there are steps most of the time, so plan accordingly. We couldn't visit the greenhouses because they are under construction (like 50% of the city at the moment, at least it felt like it)

Very clean public fitness center which has indoor swimming pools with water slides, steaming room, sauna, café, gym, eating area serving pizza, burger, fries, drinks, ice cream etc. Very friendly and help staff. All areas are very clean and tidy. No bad scent and well kept place and good place for family and friends friend weekend visit. There are also available 3 hours and 1 day free parking places with permit card right around the place.
ExinMEDIA B — Google review
The slides and pools were great and fun for kids, but we felt the spa options were quite limited—especially for toddlers. Hairdryers were weak, so it's a good idea to bring your own. Sauna choices were fewer than expected, and the showers felt a bit awkward. Since we visited during the holidays, it was very crowded, and the changing rooms were often messy—understandably, as not everyone cleaned up after themselves.
Kristina P — Google review
Always nice place for a bath. The options in pools is great and should have something for everyone :) Food is also good.
Kim B — Google review
Great place to spend time with family and friends. Clean water, tidy place and neat everywhere. More than 5 separate pools for different ages and activities. Jacuzzi and sauna also present. With Bigger slides for adults and smaller slides for kids. Parking, Cafeteria, advanced locker and shower area, they do sell swim suit, cap, Goggles and flipflops. But less staffs and unable to contact them at ease. Overall excellent place.
Raji B — Google review
Great place to visit with families, swing, eat, relax, spa. Much fun for the kids. Nice service. Like the new lock system. No need to bring own lock. You might have problems if you forgot something and need to exit building due to the new lock. But not a problem. The price is a bit high for a family to visit, unfortunately. Go a bit later to avoid crowded guests. Will be back☺ hope they will set the price lower for families.
Nhan A — Google review
I was disappointed to visit this swimming pool. The whole complex looks rather old, not modern at all, starting with lockers and showers, to the three tube-slides and the pool itself, with not very clean and clear water, no tiles on the walls or bottom of the pool. Lots of children visiting the pool (main one, unfortunately) and jumping into it from the springboards and the diving tower, making a lot of noise and blocking all lanes but ONE for those who want to swim. After kids are gone, still only two lanes are available for swimming. The two saunas (one dry and one damp) do work, but again, are old-fashioned and not really pleasant to visit. There is a nice warm-water small pool and a Jacuzzi outdoors, worth recommending, though.

Honestly best pool for kids and grow ups, i haven't found such fun pools in Oslo area, everything you need they have, highly recommend to try at least once with family.

A very, very bad, disgusting, terrible service. The entire area is run-down and neglected. They charge a lot of money. Half of the equipment doesn't work. The foot baths often don't work. There are often technical issues. Things are often closed. I do not recommend it. Very bad service.

Munch Museum in Oslo houses over 26,000 works of art by Munch along with his personal effects and tools. The city also offers a plethora of attractions including the National Gallery, smaller cafes, restaurants, and bars with live music such as Bare Jazz and Cafe Sor. Additionally, Oslo boasts various theaters like Nationaltheatret and Folketeatret where performances are usually in Norwegian.
Visited Munch Museum on a Saturday evening — luckily it’s open til late! The place is calm and beautifully designed, not too crowded, so it’s nice to just wander around and take it slow. The artworks are cool (of course The Scream!), and the view from the top floor is amazing. If you want to see all three versions of The Scream, you’ll need around two hours — they rotate the displays, so you won’t see them all at once. Totally worth taking your time though. A lovely spot to spend a quiet evening in Oslo. 🎨🌙
Fon C — Google review
I visited the old one a few times but The new Munch in Oslo feels like a living tribute to Edvard Munch’s restless spirit. The building itself leans over the fjord like it’s daring you to step inside—and once you do, the spaces give his work room to breathe and hit you in the chest. Seeing The Scream in rotation is powerful, but honestly, it’s the quieter works and the way the light falls in the galleries that stay with you. And when you need a pause, the rooftop bar and restaurant are worth the climb—floor-to-ceiling views of the city and water, cocktails that feel almost as artful as the paintings. It’s one of those museums where the experience stretches beyond the canvas, into the architecture, the food, the skyline.

A modern and spacious Munch museum with a vast collection of his work. I have discovered an unknown to me side of his artistic journey. There is one floor that guides you through his home, showcasing his possessions. The way it is designed is quite interesting. Finally, the view from the top floor over the city is great.

A fantastic Munch gallery full of awesome arts and many interesting works! The building itself is a very architectural fascination and provide absolutely gorgeous view of Oslo fjord. Multiple levels full of arts from Munch and other artists. Surprisingly there were also many interactive art you can get a hands-on with like making your own painting from wooden crafting or exploring Munch's house with a special characters! The three scream paintings display at half an hour interval each so you might need more than a couple hours to go through all the displays. Gift shop at the ground floor also have many cool little gifts you can buy to take home. There is a locker room with bathrooms close to the entrance you can store your bags for free. However the staff weren't very consistent about what size of bag you can have with you. We had a small backpack with us that was smaller than some of the other handbags people took inside while we couldn't bring ours bag in. Definitely one of my top favourite places we visited in Oslo!
Penny G — Google review
Enjoyed the great collection of Munch, allowing to immerse yourself into the artist's work. Some temporary exhibitions felt unrelated to the museum topic, hence 4/5. The building design lets you enjoy the views of the fjord and the Opera house while traversing between levels. The top floor bar offers cosy seating with view, and the ground floor cafe has nice food. The hot apple cider was great!

Really nice place with impressive paintings and a dreamy city view on the 12th floor. Especially want to say thank you to a warm-hearted gentleman staff who help me find my passport back. I accidentally lost my passport on the 12th without even noticing. Thankfully, the gentleman find the passport and he check around on different floors to find owner. It could be a disaster to me if he wasn’t so warm-hearted and helpful. Really unforgettable experience in Oslo.

An art museum dedicated to Norway iconic artist such as Munch and others. You are come and see all kinds of their art work, their work progression, their actual items that used to be used as well as enjoying the view point from the top of the building. Theres escalator and lift for easily accessible to each level. Its besides the art items theres not many other artifacts items for viewing. Hence if you aren't crazy or interested about art, this museum may not be the place for you
Sandee T — Google review
I came here with my mum and we had a lovely time. You are not allowed to bring backpacks into the gallery, but there are lockers at the entrance where you can securely store them whilst enjoying the exhibitions. I thought the layouts of the exhibitions were great and there was an interesting story told through the art and additional artifacts. The cafe in the lobby serves lovely coffee and baked goods and the top floor bar is a must for fantastic views over the Opera and surrounding area. The only negative we experienced was the price we had to pay for an umbrella in the gift shop when the weather unexpectedly turned wet.

The building's spacious and airy design makes it a must-see for culture, art, and history enthusiasts. Visitors can enjoy opera or ballet performances by reserving tickets in advance, and may even have the chance to go up on the roof to capture stunning views of Oslo's port and city lights.
Beautiful architecture, surely a landmark of Oslo. You can walk up to the roof top to avail the stunning view of Oslo.

Top experience – Rusalka, 2025. The music and orchestra were so beautiful > it was beyond anything words can describe. The acoustics of the main hall were designed with expert consultation, using oak paneling and wave-like surfaces to create world-class sound. The architecture > I love how it lets visitors walk on top of the building, blurring the boundary between structure and nature.
Iryna K — Google review
Gorgeous architecture with impressive views. The building seems symbolic of the surrounding fjords and the beauty of Norway. The steps to the roof are a gradual climb with many places to stop for children or those who need more breaks. It's wonderful to see such a new building be accessible, allowing mist everyone to experience Oslo’s beauty.

Went here to watch Eugen Onegin (Russian Opera), not sure I'm a huge fan of Opera though. But I can't rate the location low because of that! It's very nice inside, spacious and feels modern yet classic! Will come back to see maybe a Ballett instead. On the downside, the seats are very straight, and offer very little legspace, for me 195cm it was hard to find a good position to sit in for the almost 3 hours the play lasted. Therefore i give this a 4 only

Akershus Fortress, originally built in the 13th century, was strategically positioned to protect Oslo from external threats. Over the years, it has evolved into a complex that includes a medieval castle, military fortress, Renaissance palace, and active military installations. The fortress also houses two military museums and hosts various events. While the castle is currently closed for renovations, visitors can still explore the sprawling complex and enjoy its historical significance.
I hadn’t really planned to visit Akershus Fortress, but I’m so glad I did. A beautiful piece of Oslo’s history with stunning views. Just make sure to wear comfy shoes—it’s not the best place for heels!

Penny G — Google review
Akershus Fortress is a medieval castle in Oslo, Norway, built during 1299 to protect the city. It has been a strategic fortress, a Renaissance palace, a jail and now it houses military barracks and the Norwegian Armed Forces. Historically speaking, Akershus successfully survived all sieges, primarily by Swedish forces. The immediate proximity of the sea was a key feature, wherein, the Norwegian commerce in that period, was by sea. Thus the fortress had become strategically important. So, whoever controlled Akershus fortress, actually ruled Norway. Later, however, Akershus surrendered without combat to Nazi Germany in 1940 when the Norwegian government evacuated the capital in the face of the unprovoked German assault on Denmark and Norway. The fortress was finally liberated in 1945, and was handed over to Terje Rollem. Presently, one has an option of touring the historical dungeons, Royal Mausoleum and enjoy scenic views of the city from its grounds, which are also used for events and ceremonies. We were thankfully guided by a very capable guide, upon our visit to the Fortress during July 2025. The entry is free for thr grounds but however, one has to pay for the priviledge of looking at the rest of the protected areas.
Neeru D — Google review
Visiting Akershus Fortress was one of the unexpected highlights of our time in Oslo. Perched right on the waterfront, this medieval castle-turned-fortress offers incredible panoramic views of the Oslo Fjord and harbor, and it’s only a short, easy walk from Karl Johans Gate. The grounds are open and free to explore, which makes it feel more like you’re wandering through living history than entering a formal museum. The atmosphere is calm and spacious, with winding stone paths, old ramparts, and a mix of well-preserved structures and open green areas. There’s plenty of signage in English, so even without a tour you can get a strong sense of the site’s layered history—from its origins as a royal residence in the 13th century to its role as a military stronghold and later, a World War II site. The contrast between the castle walls and the modern city skyline is striking, and it’s easy to spend an hour or two just exploring, taking photos, or finding a quiet spot to take in the view. If the weather is nice, I highly recommend visiting around late afternoon for great light over the fjord. It’s a peaceful and culturally rich stop that gives you a real sense of Oslo’s history without feeling overly touristy.
Jarred F — Google review
Good: ✅ The remnants of this fortress are very well preserved. ✅ The exterior corridors of this property make up an explorer’s paradise and it is completely free (no cost). ✅ The property is part ruins and part green space/park. ✅ There are many areas to enjoy the sun or shade. Walk, run, or chill—visits are easily tailored. ✅ Beautiful vistas throughout overlooking the bay. Caution: ❌ The property is both cliffside and hillside. It’s not a bad thing, just know that exploration requires the use of steps or steep trails. In summary, this is the crown jewel of downtown Oslo. There are plenty of pics to see what it is. If you’re into such, this place will deliver.

Oslo City Hall, also known as Radhuset, is a significant administrative center and public venue in Oslo. It houses the city council, administration, art galleries, and studios. Constructed between 1931 and 1950 by architects Arnstein Arneberg and Magnus Poulsson, it was inaugurated on May 15th, 1950.

Open to public, magnificent building, backing to the harbor/pier, a small garden on the side. Worth a visit and spending some time in and out of the building. In a walking distance to the Castle.

Oslo City Hall, located right next to the Nobel Peace Center and the waterfront, is one of the most striking buildings in the city. From the outside, its twin brick towers rise dramatically against the skyline, framed by the patterned stone plaza that leads you up toward its grand entrance. The approach alone is impressive — the symmetry, the waterfall features, and the sense of scale make it feel like you’re entering a truly important civic space. Inside, the mood shifts from monumental to unexpectedly vibrant. The central hall is vast, bathed in light, and filled with stunning murals that depict Norwegian history, culture, and everyday life in extraordinary detail. It’s both ceremonial and warm, a place that feels alive with stories. The murals are jaw-dropping in size and color — they stretch across the walls and almost overwhelm the senses in the best way. I especially appreciated how easy it is to access the building: free entry, minimal fuss, and plenty of space to linger without feeling rushed. It’s one of those sites that blends civic pride with genuine artistic wonder. If you’re visiting Oslo, this is absolutely worth a stop — whether you’re into architecture, history, or just want a moment to take in something grand and uniquely Norwegian.

Beautiful building with an even more amazing wall art interior! The building has free entry to visit but it can get busy so it can take a little time in the queue to get in. There is a security check before you go inside. Many beautiful art walls cover both levels of the building and in such a spectacular size! The big hall was being set up for event when we visited in the late afternoon. Nice clean bathroom just in the basement area.

Impressive building, happened to be the 75th anniversary when we visited. Not a ton to see since there was some government meeting in action upstairs. The murals inside and the floor itself are beautiful. Even if you can't make it inside (free entrance, by the way), the architecture and fountain out front are impressive enough to rate 5 stars. Don't miss the art under the covered walks along the courtyard sides, with placards telling the story of the art relating to Norwegian/Scandinavian folklore.

Oslo Radhus or Oslo City Hall in Norway, facing Oslofjord, was finally completed in 1950 (started in 1931 to be precise, but slowing down during WW II in the interim period) to celebrate the city's 900th anniversary. It houses the city's council, administration and other municipal organizations. It also hosts the Nobel peace prize ceremony on the 10th of December each year, being the death anniversary of Alfred Nobel. Our visit during July 2025 resulted in our guide letting us know the main happenings there, however, the insides of the building, was just envisaged by us. I loved the beautiful adornment of the colourful flowers, swaying in their beds, on the other side, while we circled behind them.
