Nestled on a serene hillside just 3–5 km from Darjeeling town, Dali Monastery (Druk Thupten Sangag Choling Monastery) is an unmissable destination for travelers seeking spirituality, stunning architecture, and a glimpse into Tibetan Buddhist heritage. This Kargyupa sect monastery, built in 1971 and inaugurated by His Holiness the Dalai Lama in 1993, is home to over 200 monks and stands out as one of Darjeeling’s largest and most tranquil monasteries. While it doesn’t have a formal museum, its rich collection of artifacts, library, and cultural displays make it a living repository of Tibetan Buddhist history, earning it a spot as a must-visit.

This waterfall is truly a breathtaking beauty, away from the noise of the main road. With multiple cascading layers. Surrounded by lush greenery, the entire area feels untouched, serene, and refreshingly pure. Refreshments shops are also available at this point. Please note: reaching this spot isn’t easy. The route from the main road requires a downhill drive, It takes some patience and a bit of effort. But every moment of the journey is worth it. Once you arrive, the view, the sound of the water, and the peaceful surroundings make it worth the effort. If you enjoy hidden natural spots and don’t mind a bit of an adventure, this waterfall is absolutely worth discovering.

🌿 Rock Garden, Darjeeling – A Hidden Gem in the Hills! Visited the Rock Garden recently and it was an amazing experience! The beautifully layered rock steps, cascading waterfalls, and lush greenery make it a perfect place to relax and enjoy nature. The cool breeze, sound of flowing water, and scenic mountain backdrop create a peaceful vibe you won’t find elsewhere. There are plenty of great photo spots and places to sit and enjoy the view. It’s also a good spot for a quiet picnic or just a walk to unwind. The road to the garden is a bit steep and winding, but the journey is worth it once you reach this beautiful location. Highly recommended for nature lovers, couples, and families visiting Darjeeling. A peaceful escape from the hustle of town, and definitely worth adding to your itinerary!

This is an awesome place to visit with family and friends 😊.the waterfalls, environment, ambience, view everything is too good. If anyone goes there surely they will enjoy it. Me and my family go there twice and we like this place, especially my grandfather likes this place too much ,although he can't climb stairs but still he enjoyed it. You don't need to enter and the ticket price is also reasonable. But there was a thing that you knew before you went to visit, that is the price of everything there is 5 rupees more than the MRP.
Arzu R — Google review
Wowwww what a beautiful place,,,,The Rock Garden is a very beautiful place. You can climb very high and there are many waterfalls, but the road to get here is very bad.You have to be very careful here, the road here is very steep. Since you have to go down a lot, the road is very bad, but once you go, you are bound to feel better.
Pinki G — Google review
Okay listen—if you think this is just a cute little picnic spot with a pretty waterfall… THINK AGAIN. I went in thinking it’s a chill place. Ten minutes in, I was climbing stairs like I was in a Himalayan boot camp! 🥵💪 You have to walk… and walk… and WALK. At one point, I thought I’d need oxygen and a rescue team. My legs filed an official complaint against me halfway up. 😩 BUT—plot twist—the views? STUNNING. Like nature said, “Yeah I made you suffer, but here’s your reward.” The waterfall is beautiful, the rocks are dramatic, and the vibe is like a nature spa if you ignore the 100 people taking selfies all around you. 📷💦 Always packed. You won’t be alone unless you visit at sunrise (and even then, uncle-ji with the DSLR will be there before you). So final verdict: Great for Instagram, terrible for lazy people. Wear shoes. And if you can’t walk a lot—just look at the pictures online and save your knees. 😂

Bokar Ngedon Chokhor Ling Monastery, more commonly known as Bokar Monastery, is a sanctuary of peace and a beacon of Buddhist learning nestled in the serene hills of Mirik, West Bengal. It is a truly remarkable place. Perched at the highest point of Mirik, the monastery offers a breathtaking panorama of the surrounding landscape, including the tranquil Sumendu Lake. The clean, well-maintained premises and the quiet, spiritual atmosphere make it a perfect destination for those seeking a respite from the clamor of daily life. The air of serenity is palpable, making it an ideal spot for meditation. This monastery is not just a place of worship; it is a thriving monastic center where nearly 500 monks are devoted to studying, practicing, and sustaining the teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha. It is home to a monastic college (Shedra) and hosts regular retreats.

Bokar Monastery offers a spiritual pause, a chance to breathe, reflect, and connect—with nature and with yourself. It balances beautiful surroundings, rich culture, and a calm that soaks into your bones. Whether you’re a traveler, photographer, spiritual seeker or someone just wanting peace, this monastery rewards you. From the moment I climbed up toward Bokar Ngedon Chokhor Ling Monastery, the world seemed to quiet down. Perched atop a hill at about 5,800 ft, this monastery offers one of the most peaceful escapes in Mirik.

Beautiful place, very peaceful place, Whether you're a spiritual seeker, a lover of nature, or a cultural enthusiast, Mirik Monastery offers a soulful retreat away from the hustle of everyday life. It’s one of the lesser-known treasures of North Bengal and truly worth a visit.
Keya B — Google review
This is a very important Buddhist monastery. It is located in Mirik city in Darjeeling district, West Bengal, India. It can be reached by crossing a road distance of 46 km from Siliguri city and a distance of 13 km from Pashupatinathnagar on the Nepal-India border. Mirik is a major tourist city. Mirik Lake, this monastery, Swiss Cottage, etc. are the main attractions here. The weather here remains cool even during summer. It is a little colder during winter. Therefore, warm clothes are required here. This monastery was built four five decades ago. Before this, there was an old monastery. Here, Lamas teach children to propagate Buddhism. Tibetan medical system services are also available here. A visit to this monastery can be useful when coming to Mirik. It is located at a high altitude. It would be better to take a local taxi.

Simana View Point

Sights & Landmarks
Lookouts
Located at an elevation of 7500 feet, Simana Viewpoint is a plateau measuring 60 feet by 40 feet, providing stunning vistas of the adjacent plains, the snow-covered summits of Mount Kanchenjunga, and the small villages of Nepal. The term 'Simana' translates to 'border' in Hindi. This region marks the Indo-Nepal border, with the road being part of India while the viewing area is situated in Nepal. However, visitors are permitted to cross over to enjoy the captivating scenery.
Somnath M — Google review
🌄 Simana View Point – Beautiful Scenery, But Needs Better Maintenance 🌄 Simana View Point, located on the India-Nepal border, is truly a breathtaking destination. It’s a must-visit spot for nature lovers and photography enthusiasts. From here, you can clearly see the Nepal border, and the background is often graced with a stunning view of the Himalayan mountains, making it a perfect place to capture some memorable photographs. The view, especially on a clear day, is simply amazing. You can spot the distant hills and valleys, and the unique feeling of being so close to an international border adds to the charm of the place. However, while the natural beauty is remarkable, the cleanliness of the spot is disappointing. Many tourists, especially some from West Bengal, tend to throw garbage around carelessly. There seems to be zero civic sense, and it’s painful to see such a scenic location being spoiled by plastic wrappers, bottles, and waste. It’s a humble request to visitors: please respect nature and do not litter. Also, a quick tip for travelers — the local shop near the viewpoint remains closed on Mondays, so if you’re planning to visit, avoid that day if you’re expecting to grab a tea, snack, or souvenir. ⸻ Overall Rating: 3.8/5 ✅ Amazing mountain views ✅ Nepal border visible ✅ Great spot for photos ❌ Poor cleanliness due to irresponsible tourists ❌ Shops closed on Mondays Final Thoughts: Simana View Point is worth visiting for its scenic beauty and peaceful atmosphere. But the charm of the place can be preserved only if we, as visitors, act responsibly. Let’s keep our hills as clean as our camera rolls!

You will get a unforgettable memory... 🏔🤍

Fantastic place but the road from Tumling will be hell even in a 4x4. It's very cold (once it gets cloudy and chilly) even in October so take appropriate warm clothes. Ideal for treks. Do not mess with the yaks and the horses. The yaks might chase you thinking you have salt. Running water is a big issue here.
Pritesh C — Google review
West Bengal s highest mountain peak but it is very crowdy. Beautiful sceneries can be seen from here . Most favourite trekking attraction is sandakhfu for trekkers. You can also come this place by landrover but trekking is more adventurous.
Debraj B — Google review
One of the most beautiful place I have ever visited. I was there in the month of February 2024. It was a bit off season and at night temperature was around -5 degree. Hotel sunrise is one of the choices for staying there. But when I stayed there , there was no electricity, so as usual there was no room heater or anything to keep us warm, so in that climate condition it was a bit difficult for all the travellers. Even glass windows were frozen inside the room. But the very next day when we saw the clear sky and the beautiful sunrise , all our exhaustion had turned into joy and happiness.you can visit the place either by hiking or by car , you can reach to Manibhanjan from NJP , from Manibhanjan you can hire a guide if you want to reach the place by trekking,it’s a 4 days trek only for sandakphu , and if you want to cover Phalut , then it’s a 5 days trek. Another option is you can take the legendary Land Rover or Mahindra Marshal kind of jeeps to reach there. If the sky is clear then you can see the most mesmerising view of Kanchanjunga range. I am sharing some photos from my gallery. Keep travelling keep knowing the u know.

Reach there via Phalut. Trekked approx 21 KM. Exhausted, dwindling somehow reached the trekkers hut. But the next day sunshine gave the tranquility I craved for long

Sandakphu is the highest point of the ridge and of the state of West Bengal, India. The peak is located at the edge of the Singalila National Park and has a small village on the summit with a few hotels. Four of the five highest peaks in the world, Everest, Kangchenjunga, Lhotse and Makalu can be seen from its summit. Must visit place in West Bengal, its beauty is beyond expectation.
Souditi C — Google review
One of the most difficult terrain to conquer. ROADS are almost non existence. But adventurous. If you're looking for adventure you can definitely visit this place. View of Kanchenjunga is Mesmerising and the sunrise is just wow
Niraj B — Google review
The last 14 km trekking from Tumling to Sandakphu is totally WORTH it!! I would suggest everyone who lives in West Bengal to atleast visit this place once in their lifetime. This place is indescribable and unbelievably BEAUTIFUL! ❤️ One of the best place I've been. Very cheap, if you know the place and people. If you want to go by car, book Land rover car from the ticket counter. It will be very cheap for you. PLEASE don't allow the "Tour Guide" book the Hotels and Cars, they will charge double. The Guide will tell you Hotels/cars are not available etc... Just to fill up their pockets. Always book cars and hotels by yourself. Don't go for so called guides (dalals). People are very nice and helpful over there.. I've been to this place two times.

Very peaceful and serene place. Must visit place. It is believed to fulfill the wishes and bring good luck to the people who visit there. The bamboo trees around the temple, which are never cut, add to the mystique. Visitors often tie colorful threads to these trees to make wishes.

Nothing much to see except some pet elephants. Maybe I was expecting too much. I travelled from dbg to Kosi tapu by bike. The ticket only for two people was 700INR or 1000 nepali rupees as we were from India. It's just 100 rupees for nepalis and it was not worth that money at all for us because the elephants out of the sanctuary and hence free as they were domesticated and kept in chains.

Janakpur Railway Station is a convenient transit point for traveling between Nepal and India. The train timings are punctual, and I had a comfortable journey in the AC coach to Jayanagar, India. The ticket prices are fair, but the train stops feel unnecessarily long. Local buggies around the station are quite congested. The biggest drawback is the cleanliness—it definitely needs better maintenance. Overall, a decent travel option with room for improvement!

The waiting area was spacious and comfortable, with plenty of seating and amenities such as Wi-Fi, and clean restrooms. I also appreciated the wide range of food and beverage options available at the station's vendors, which made waiting for my train a more enjoyable experience. The station's platform was also well-maintained and clearly marked, making it easy for me to board my train without any confusion or hassle. The train itself was clean and comfortable, with ample seating and air conditioning to keep passengers cool during the journey. One of the highlights of Janakpur Railway Station is its beautiful architecture, which blends traditional Nepalese design with modern construction. The station's façade is adorned with intricate carvings and colorful murals, adding a touch of local culture and history to the overall experience.

Jaanki temple pride of mithila. It reminds us the glory of mithila, raja janak and mata sita. My nani always wanted to visit Janki temple, so we all decided to go to Janki temple. So We hired a car and went to Janki temple. Reaching there we saw the temple, a high white colored temple in which red and green colors were also used; its grandeur was spreading in all four directions. Our day was good, so we could have darshan of mata sita very easily. The attitude of the pujari's of the temple was very good towards the devotees. The temple was quite clean. We also saw the marriage place, it was also equally grand. Everything in the entire temple was very good except one thing and that was the toilet, the toilet was arranged at a distance where a lady used to sit and before using the toilet we had to pay money, without money she would not let us go inside. Due to her we and more than us our ladies faced a lot of problems.

Janaki Mandir is a major Hindu temple in Janakpur, dedicated to Goddess Sita (also known as Janaki), the daughter of King Janaka and wife of Lord Rama. It is one of the largest and most important pilgrimage sites in Nepal. The temple celebrates the sacred love story of Goddess Sita and Lord Rama, making it one of the most spiritually uplifting places in Nepal. Its bright white façade, domes, arches, and carvings make it look like a palace—especially magical during sunrise and evening lights. Colorful Madhubani/Mithila paintings around the complex reflect the rich cultural heritage of the Maithil people.

“Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery” or”Namo Buddha Monastery” is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery about 40 km southeast of Kathmandu Valley. It lies at the top of the hill in Namo Buddha Municipality. According to legend, 6000 years ago Prince Mahasatwo (also known as Ngingdui Tshenpo) discovered a starving tigress and her five cubs. To save the lives of the tigers, Mahasatwo cut his body so that the warm blood drew the tigress to him. The tigress ate the prince and left only his bones. The bones of the prince were brought back to the village and buried in a tomb which became the stupa of Namo Buddha.

During the hiking trail you would encounter a lot of local houses and their farm animals inducing buffalos, chicken, ducks and sheep. Some of the house dogs could be quite alert when other dogs pass by, but they are all friendly to humans. It is not a difficult trail but still some of the parts are quite wet and muddy. Better prepare a pair of sport shoes.

Its a trail which actually follows a wide track meant to be developed into a road in future. A good one indeed. Not very long, has some breathtaking views. Do it on a morning when skies are clear. During monsoons, there could be some narrow streams enroute, easy to cross. The hidden view point on the trail is a track bend where views are wonderful. If you start from the Northern end, hot cups of tea could be had at the end with several small eateries and restaurants.

Serene and scenic trek located near Kathmandu, Nepal — breathtaking views of the Himalayan mountain range, including glimpses of Mount Everest on clear days. This trail winds through charming hill villages, terraced fields, pine forests, and peaceful ridgelines.

Combine Nagarkot scenic panoramic trail with the Nagarkot nature trail in a two to two and a half hour circuit walk. Started at Hotel Country Villa. Followed main road north for a few hundred metres to Unkai resort. Follow the path on the left side of Unkai resort down the spur until you reach the dirt road under the high voltage electrical tower. Take a right turn and follow the track south. There is the potential for panoramic views east provided there is no smog. Visibility was poor for me. There are lots of birds to been seen along this section of the walk. When you get close to Nagarkot you will see more larger buildings. At the first fork in the road take the right fork and start climbing towards the town. You will pass the primary school and then keep climbing until you reach the main road. Follow the main road north for a short distance and you will see the secondary college on the left. The nature trail starts on the left side of the road after the secondary school. There is a sign there. Follow the nature trail in a north westerly direction for about five hundred metres until you see a trail climbing up the hill on the right hand side. Climb up this trail and it will take you back to the main road. Follow this north for a few hundred meters to arrive back at the starting point. Two hours with plenty of stops for bird watching. You can see my route on Alltrails app under the Nagarkot to Kattike Nature trail map.

Sooo, I had much expectations but at the end it's not that good. Nature is nothing crazy in that area . Although I have to say that is a excellent way to see the country side villages and people lifestyle. I have added the pictures I have done in The NICEST places. We have done the route passing by the waterfall bridge. After the bridge there's a place call coffee and resort ( it's not at all a resort and there's no coffe !!!!) but they have some food and drink , fair price. No need for gide ... Google worked for us . We took a taxi from Kathmandu untill the closest point to the panoramic hiking hill point. There's not indicators during the route !!! No tourist also . Again, Nature, honestly not worth to do if what you want is to enjoy from new nature. There's nothing different in comparison with a European forest.. (I'm spanish and my husband french ) Everything is polluted and ravish everywhere like in the rest of the country.

The Kailashnath Mahadev Statue is a towering copper, zinc and steel sculpture of the Hindu deity Shiva located next to a mountain temple. It is the world's tallest Shiva temple and boasts an impressive view. Although it may be a bit far from Kathmandu, it is worth visiting if there is time. The surrounding area is currently undergoing renovations but with the aim of improvement.
Little away from the hassling city life, a great place for spending time with friends and family with a green scenery. Most importantly, the Great Statue of Kailashnath Mahadev Statue 143 feet tall gives the perfect vibes of inner peace with natural view. Visiting the Kailashnath Mahadev Statue in Sanga, Nepal was an awe-inspiring experience. As one of the tallest Lord Shiva statues in the world, it stands majestically at 143 feet, overlooking the beautiful hills between Kathmandu and Bhaktapur. The sheer size and craftsmanship of the statue are truly breathtaking—it's a powerful spiritual landmark that leaves a lasting impression. The atmosphere around the statue is peaceful and serene, making it a perfect place for meditation and reflection. The surrounding gardens are well-maintained, and the gentle sound of temple bells and mantras adds to the divine ambiance. As I walked around, I felt a strong sense of calm and connection to nature and spirituality. The view from the hilltop is also stunning, offering panoramic scenes of the valley below. The facilities were well-organized, with clean pathways, helpful signage, and local shops offering souvenirs and snacks. I also appreciated the small temples and shrines around the main statue, which added to the sacred feel of the site. Locals and visitors alike seemed to share a common reverence and respect for the place, which created a warm and welcoming environment. Overall, the Kailashnath Mahadev Statue is not just a monument—it's a spiritual destination worth visiting. Whether you're a devotee of Lord Shiva or simply a traveler seeking beauty and peace, this site offers both. I highly recommend making it a part of your journey when exploring Nepal!

Beautiful majestic view of Kathmandu on top of sanga mahadev. With bike you can reach easily to top although 100 to 150 meters it's a straight slope may difficulty for low and cc bike. There is one uncle who is specially able he will suggest you to park bikes on the front of his shop. He won't ask for money but if you like you can tip him , I also did because I liked his honesty 🩵

Phulchowki

Mountain peak
Nature & Parks
Mountains
Phulchowki, a hill standing at 2782 meters, offers a range of outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling, and bird-watching amidst its subtropical forest and breathtaking scenic views. The journey to the top takes around 2.5-3 hours on foot or can be accessed via a motor road suitable for biking or 4-wheel drive vehicles during the monsoon season.
I recently visited phulchowki, and the experience was amazing. The nature there feels so peaceful and refreshing which is so perfect escape from the chaos of city. One of the best part is road itself for photos and videos. However at the starting point, part of the road has collapsed due to the landslide. But after that the road is road and smooth. Overall great spot for relaxing, nature and capturing beautiful moments. 🌲📸🌸
XUGUXT — Google review
Pulchoki is the highest mountain @ 2782 mtrs adjacent to Kathmandu. Although 2/3 rds of the 13 klms of road is only suitable for bikes & 4 WD vehicles, the road is an adventure in itself, with numerous hair pin bends (mostly concreted). There are view points along the way, overlooking Ktm. On a good day, from the summit, you get panoramic views in all directions. There are no eateries on the mountain, so be prepared to take your own.

There was not much to see, but the environment over there was really good and refreshing. Spending time after the full day work in phulchowki can be a short day trip. Have walk to the top rather than using vehicles.

Phulchowki is 2,791 meters (9,058 feet) tall and is the highest peak on the Kathmandu Valley rim. It's located 10 kilometers southeast of Patan. Very good place to hike inside KTM valley, but take care about safety measures and path of there, somehow 🤔😕❤️❤️🇳🇵

It features a remarkable five-tiered pagoda that reaches 30 meters into the sky, making it one of the tallest buildings in the Kathmandu Valley. Sanjay M — Google review
Rising proudly above Bhaktapur’s Taumadhi Square, the Nyatapola Temple stands as a timeless guardian of Nepal’s heritage. Its name, meaning “five stories” in the Newari language, perfectly describes its soaring structure — a five-tiered pagoda that has watched over the city since 1702 AD. Commissioned by King Bhupatindra Malla, the temple was miraculously completed in just a few months, a testament to the skill and devotion of Newar artisans. Dedicated to Siddhi Lakshmi, a powerful form of the goddess Parvati, it was built not merely as a shrine, but as a symbol of strength and balance in a world of divine forces. Legend has it that the temple was erected to tame the fierce energy of Bhairava, the nearby deity known for his destructive power. To restore harmony, the king built this towering temple for Siddhi Lakshmi, whose spiritual might could keep Bhairava’s energy in check. Beyond the myth, historical records tell of an extraordinary communal effort — craftsmen, builders, and laborers from across the Malla kingdom working together to create what would become Nepal’s tallest and most enduring temple. Even nature’s fury has tested it: earthquakes in 1934 and 2015 shook the valley, yet Nyatapola stood firm, its foundation and design proving the brilliance of traditional Newari engineering. When approaching the temple, we are immediately drawn to its grand staircase guarded by stone sentinels — wrestlers, elephants, lions, griffins, and deities — each pair ten times stronger than the one below. Climbing these steps rewards travelers with sweeping views of Taumadhi Square and the old city beyond, where terracotta roofs and bustling alleys tell stories centuries old. Though the inner sanctum is closed to the public and accessible only to priests, the temple’s exterior majesty is more than enough to inspire awe. It's the crown jewel of Bhaktapur, elegance and resilience. It feels like stepping back into a living history — a city that breathes through its temples. The climb can be steep, and qe have seen other pagoda-style temples in the Kathmandu Valley and we find the architecture somewhat familiar. But still this Nyatapola’s towering grace and intricate symbolism make it anything less than extraordinary. Today, the temple remains not just a monument, but a living emblem of Bhaktapur’s identity — a blend of faith, artistry, and endurance. Whether you come to admire its architecture, learn its legends, or simply stand in its shadow, Nyatapola Temple offers an unforgettable glimpse into the soul of Nepal.

Traditional Newari era temple, built from brick with an architecture that has really withstood 2 major earthquakes. It's an impressive structure that reminds me of some of the Jain temples in India

Built in the early era of Bhaktapur, this temple is the only temple in Nepal with 5-story structure. Massive presence and standing out as an architectural genius, this temple itself is an embodiment of our religion, culture and tradition. Bhaktapur, one of the most underrated places inside Kathmandu valley holds various structures like this in the area. Visiting here once is enough until it calls you again and again, and you will find yourself roaming around the ancient nooks of Bhaktapur every time like it’s your first time.

Nyatapol Temple is one of the most iconic landmarks of Bhaktapur and a masterpiece of Newari architecture. Built in 1702 during the reign of King Bhupatindra Malla, this five-storied pagoda is Nepal’s tallest traditional temple and a symbol of strength, balance, and cultural pride. The temple stands gracefully in Taumadhi Square, drawing visitors with its majestic tiered structure and finely crafted stone guardians—legendary wrestlers, elephants, lions, griffins, and goddesses—lined along its steep staircase. Each pair of guardians represents increasing strength, adding layers of myth and meaning to the monument. Climbing up the steps offers not only a closer view of the temple’s details but also a panoramic glimpse of Bhaktapur’s ancient cityscape. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Siddhi Lakshmi, although the inner sanctum is generally closed to the public, preserving its sacredness. What makes Nyatapol Temple remarkable is its resilience. Despite several devastating earthquakes over centuries, the structure has stood firm, a testament to the extraordinary craftsmanship of the Malla-era builders. For travelers, Nyatapol Temple is more than a sightseeing spot—it’s an experience of history, art, and spirituality blended together. Whether you’re an architecture enthusiast, a cultural explorer, or just someone seeking a peaceful moment amid Bhaktapur’s bustling squares, this temple is a must-visit.

Pottery Square in Bhaktapur is one of those rare places where culture, craftsmanship, and community come together beautifully. Located just a short walk from the iconic Nyatapola Temple, this charming square offers a glimpse into the living heritage of traditional pottery-making. Here, you can witness local artisans skillfully shaping clay into beautiful pots, utensils, and decorative items—each piece telling its own story of Bhaktapur’s rich artistic legacy. What makes Pottery Square truly special is the authentic experience it offers. Visitors are not just spectators; you can actually join a pottery class and try your hand at crafting your own clay masterpiece. During my visit, a friendly local vendor even offered me a private class at a very affordable price, possibly because it was the low season. It turned out to be a fun, hands-on experience that gave me a deeper appreciation for the patience and skill involved in traditional pottery-making. Beyond the craft itself, the atmosphere of Pottery Square is warm, inviting, and filled with positive energy. The owners and artisans are incredibly welcoming and love sharing stories about their work and heritage. Quite an interesting place to visit and spend time. The place is a historical heritage. However, the local guide who showed us around had barely any substantial knowledge or information about the place. Authentic newari architecture right next to Kathmandu. In my view, the best Durbar Square (in comparison to both Patan's and Kathmandu's Durbar Square. Don't miss the painting school a few steps away and the Poterry Square. Try one of the roof top restaurants overlooking the square for momos or just a refreshment!

I would say this is better than Durbar square in Kathmandu. Mostly because there is less traffic and less refurbishment going on. More expensive to enter though at 2000 NRP per person. Note if paying in US$ they have to give you change in US$, so would recommend having right amount in advance so you don’t have to wait.
Robert F — Google review
On the outskirts of Katmandu, a place worth visiting. Guide hired at NPR 1000/- was more about finishing off his quota of one hour. Requires a patient checking out with the map offered along with the ticket. For photography, best visited as early as possible - heard , opens at 6 am. ( Not that there are barriers anywhere to block tourists, but, during the day , guards were seen directing tourists to the tkt counter. Some sort of amalgam of the then royalty's visit to other countries ( mainly Bharath?). Wood work on structures is meticulous and elaborate. Many, damaged during past earthquakes have been restored.

Visiting Siddha Pokhari in Sallaghari, Bhaktapur, was a serene and enriching experience. The first thing that struck me was the tranquil ambiance of the place. Surrounded by traditional Newari houses and lush greenery, Siddha Pokhari offers a peaceful retreat from the bustling city life. The pond itself is quite expansive, and its still waters reflect the sky and the surrounding structures beautifully, creating a picturesque scene. Strolling along the edges of the pond, I was fascinated by the various statues and shrines dedicated to different deities. These structures, combined with the historical ambiance, offer a glimpse into the spiritual life of the local community. The presence of numerous fish in the pond adds to the lively yet calm atmosphere, and feeding them is a popular activity among visitors. The local vendors around the pond sell traditional snacks and refreshments, which provide an authentic taste of local flavors. I particularly enjoyed the experience of sitting by the pond, enjoying a cup of traditional Nepali tea while soaking in the serene surroundings. One of the highlights of my visit was interacting with the locals, who shared interesting anecdotes and historical facts about Siddha Pokhari. Their stories added a rich layer of context to my understanding of the site and its importance in the local culture. Siddha Pokhari is also a popular spot for meditation and quiet contemplation. I noticed several people engaged in these activities, which speaks to the pond’s spiritual significance. The calm environment, combined with the historical aura, makes it an ideal place for reflection and relaxation. The National Botanical Garden in Lalitpur, Nepal, is a beautiful and peaceful retreat for nature lovers. Located at the base of Phulchoki Hill, it features a vast collection of native and exotic plant species, making it an ideal spot for botanists, researchers, and visitors seeking tranquility. The garden is well-maintained, with lush greenery, themed sections, ponds, and a diverse range of flora that change with the seasons. The serene environment makes it a great place for picnics, photography, and birdwatching. The cool, fresh air and natural beauty offer a refreshing break from the city's hustle and bustle. However, some areas could benefit from better maintenance, and during peak seasons or weekends, it can get a bit crowded. The garden has basic facilities, but visitors should bring their own food and water as options inside are limited. The entry fee is affordable, making it an accessible destination for families, students, and tourists. Overall, the National Botanical Garden is a wonderful place to relax, learn about plants, and enjoy nature. Whether you're interested in botany, looking for a scenic getaway, or simply want a quiet place to unwind, this garden is worth visiting. It’s a hidden gem that offers both educational and recreational value, perfect for a day trip from Kathmandu.

This is such a nice place to just relax , look at different varieties of flowers and have picnics with your friend , it is a very fun place to go to if u are interested in flowers , plants and gardens , but the only thing that bothers me a little is that the place to have a picnic is a tad bit messy but other than it's completely AMAZING. Whether you want to spend the day alone with yourself or just grab a book and relax in nature, go here! Highly recommended as it it close to Kathmandu and you can easily get a public vehicle that leads to this garden! Another alternative is just 20 minutes bike ride from Satdobato and you’ll reach here! But if you’re snacking inside, don’t forget to carry your own waste back home as I could see a lot of Nepalese failing to do so!

Beautiful garden with lush vegetation & lovely flowers . A drive in the golf cart with my young Mom of 86 plus if one pays 200/- per head. Spread over more than a 1000 ropanies of land is a great place to picnic .. dry one . Thankfully no plastics are allowed inside and it is well checked too.Ganesh the driver of the EV car was very knowledgeable & sweet. Wish they could allow us to stop in few points and click photos… got potted plants of azaleas, wisterias & some wild flowers too. Great place for nature lovers.

The Vajrayogini Temple, nestled in the picturesque Kathmandu Valley, offers a serene and tranquil environment ideal for meditation. This sacred Buddhist temple boasts stunning views of the valley and is known for its pristine cleanliness and natural beauty. The peaceful atmosphere permeates every corner of this place, providing an excellent setting to connect with one's spiritual self. With its great spiritual vibes, the Vajrayogini Temple attracts visitors seeking solace and profound experiences.
Even though I have been living in this area for more than two decades, I came to know about this temple housing a sacred stone statue of Khacheri Vajrayogini just yesterday. Today is the 25th date in the Tibetan Lunar Calendar, which is dedicated to the Dakinis. I thought it's an auspicious coincidence to come to know about this place a day ago. Hence, I decided to set out to find this sacred temple. As the original location on Google map turned out to be off the mark, I faced little difficulty finding it, but I found it after driving around a little bit. After getting there, it was a mixed emotion as I came to know that the original temple was destroyed in the 2015 Nepal earthquake, but the statue is still intact and it is now being housed in the current new temple. It is still pretty relaxed atmosphere as it is crowded. I guess, just like me, not many people know about this temple. If you visit swayambhu for pilgrimage, you must visit this place as it is only about 20 minutes drive from Swayambhu Buddha park. I have submitted correction of the map location to Google, hopefully it will get updated. Otherwise, you can ask for Aadeshwar Mahadev Temple, Sitapaila first and once you get there, then you can ask Bajrayogini temple. It's right across on a hillside.

Her Red Body is the Passion behind Practices, Completely Shoaked under High Rajo-Guna. Her Terrible Dance (Nrutya) signifies Destruction of Temporary Results and Malefic Actions. This Dance is Completely shoaked under Tamo Guna. Her Third Eye is The Achieved state of Enlightenment and Antar-Chakshu (Inner Eyes), This is Purely Shoaked under Sattva Guna.
