Nestled on the stunning Alabaster Coast, Veules-les-Roses is a charming village that captures the essence of Normandy. Just 12 miles from Dieppe, this picturesque spot features delightful half-timbered cottages and an enchanting atmosphere steeped in history. The Veules River, known as France's smallest river at just 1,100 meters long, meanders through the village before flowing into the sea amidst striking chalk cliffs.
One of the oldest villages in the Country of Co (Pays de Caux) and the most beautiful villages in Normandy. Veul-les-Roses will enchant you with its landscapes: the charm of its seashores, rich architectural heritage and greenery along the shortest river in France - the Veul. The length of this river is only 1100 m. Walking along its banks, you will discover the history of the village (mills, resort villas, flower houses, churches) and come out to the sea with a sandy beach. You will find buildings of various styles here - from rustic wooden houses and fishermen's houses to chic villas of the early 20th century, as well as small and large gardens with an abundance of flowers, especially roses.
Hanna S — Google review
It is a small valley nestled in the Pays de Caux, between the alabaster cliffs. Between the banks of the Veules and the seafront, a village stretches out where Belle Époque villas rub shoulders with old half-timbered Norman houses. At first, painters and intellectuals from all over Europe stopped to visit Veules-les-Roses and eventually succumbed to its charms. You simply have to visit Veules-les-Roses! Stroll, stroll, stroll in this village which alone concentrates all the charm of Normandy. It is one of the most beautiful in France and one of the oldest in the region. It was built in a valley, a depression in the cliffs which gives access to the sea. Everything is there, from half-timbered houses to old mills, including Belle Époque villas and bath cabins. The smallest river in France which is 1149 meters long. This is one of the peculiarities of the village and you should not miss to walk along it obviously. You can start the walk on the waterfront to go up the path to the source of the river. You will come across old stone bridges, half-timbered thatched cottages and old hotels.

Bois des Moutiers is a popular destination in France, known for its stunning gardens and natural beauty. The park boasts an impressive collection of giant rhododendrons and the Shamrock garden hosts the largest collection of hydrangeas in the world. The area around Varengeville showcases the unspoiled beauty of nature, with the Vasterival valley offering a grandiose and intimate setting.
Varied and beautiful park,/gardens. Rhododendrons galore. Guided tours only, in french but downloadable guide in English possible. Open certain days only - check website.

Nice park-like area (not a forest), house and garden nicely tuned to each other. OK guided tour, mostly French spoken. Guide did not want to translate it all, although he spoke English.

This place was well maintained and had many beautiful floral trees. Being someone who seeks out a more natural setting though, I disliked how many tourists were there even on a weekday. You never we're able to have too much time alone since everyone follows the trail. None the less, it was a nice walk on a spring day..only a little chilly in the shady parts.
Bonnie T — Google review
Lovely gardens; over looking the sea with the most beautiful views of topery and flowers. There's also the very pretty woods full of lushous greens as well as interesting trees and jungle like plants. Pretty good place to take children to run free and have fun while parents watch the sea view. There's also a beautiful house to look around but not as good for children. Parking is also free and most staff speak fluent English. Would definitely go again and everybody should take a look if in the area.
Alex G — Google review
This is an Arts & Crafts house designed by Edward Lutyens with a garden by Gertrude Jeykll, the first of their collaborations. You can't see inside the house at the moment, but the garden is spectacular. Around the house are a series of 'rooms', which are well presented, and then you walk down a valley with mature trees, and wonderful rhododendrons and azaleas at this time of year. The weather was a bit dull, but it didn't take away at all from the sheer exuberance of the displays. Note that the garden is open for two hours in the morning, and four in the afternoon. I think you need at least two hours to properly appreciate the garden !
Jeremy J — Google review
The single most impressive garden and park I've ever seen. A true master piece! I'm not surprised to read that the British architect of the garden later designed a palace for a king in New Delhi! Budget 2 hours for the visit, the park is huge!

Chateau Musee de Dieppe

Museums
Chateau Musee de Dieppe, located in Dieppe, France, is a hilltop castle with a rich history dating back to the 14th century. Overlooking the English Channel, it has served as a military fortress, prison, and now houses an impressive museum. The museum features fine paintings, artworks, ivory carvings from the impressionist era and folding lace fans. Visitors can also enjoy stunning views of the city rooftops and waterfront from this historical site.
Simple but nice castle. The walk up to the castle is doable, the view is very pretty! We didn’t enter the museum, but looked around the castle and in the shop. If you’re exploring Dieppe, you should pay a visit to the castle! Wouldn’t take up much of your time.
Naomi B — Google review
A very beautiful place to take a walk around. Had a really great time! Can’t say much about the museum itself but enjoyed examining the old maps, boats, the château itself and the premises. Worth visiting!
Masha Y — Google review
This was great! It is free for people under the age of 25 and only 6.50 for other people. The building itself is beautifull with many great views. There is also a piano which you can play if you want to! All in all, this is a must visit if you are going to Dieppe!
Kevin Y — Google review
Pretty cool place to visit. Beautiful area with plenty to see without paying to enter museum, but worth the entry fee. Easily can spend 2 hours or more just walking around and enjoying everything. Be prepared for uphill walking. Very limited parking (5 cars at the top), but there is free parking near the beach which is about a 10 - 15 minute walk to the chateau. Defiently worth visiting.
Matthew A — Google review
A beautiful Château on the cliffs near the beach good for small hike, view from the top is beautiful and calming, you can book the ticket and visit the museum inside the castle or you can take the walk alongside the cliffs.
Arpita G — Google review
The grounds were free to enter and it wasn't expensive to get inside the castle. The view is the best from the top .

Reve de Bisons is a wonderful restaurant that offers a beautiful view of Canadian wildlife and indigenous themed decorations. The food is delicious and the service is top-notch. I highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for a delicious and unique dining experience!
Very nice place. Canadian wildlife and indigenous themed and lovely view. Highly recommend!
Vy N — Google review
We went there to eat as it was the only place in walking distance from our accomodation. The place is huge, filled with kitchy native American motives and hunting trophies. I got the buffalo antricote which was quite difficult to chew. They served us very fast, actually it was too fast, I suppose they already had the food prepared and just warmed it a bit. I would not go there a 2nd time.
Valentin S — Google review
below expectations. tour was entirely in french, which no one mentioned beforehand. even the safety instructions were in french. I liked the wolf tour, the bison tour wasn’t great. The food was average.

Booked a meal for the last night of our holiday only to find out they had no chef to cook so were closed, they had our number so could have let us know, totally useless service. I would avoid this place at all costs unless you want to be disappointed

Stunningly beautiful ‘secret’ garden. A real treasure. Well worth a visit.

I just didn't want to leave. Heavenly space, beautifully planted and designed with many texture and form combinations for the canopy, mid-height and ground cover perfect for part shade and shade. A masterpiece!
Laura T — Google review
A surprise/gem hidden way in an unassuming village in Normandy. Not big but with lots of paths and "hideaways". Not saying anymore as it would be spoilers. Go and have a view for yourself and take the time to loose yourself in this garden. Try to find a time when it will be less crowded. We visited just around lunchtime and it was perfect. When we left people started to arrive.
Lisbeth V — Google review
Last June, 2018, I went on a fabulous garden tour. Le Jardin Agapanthe was by far, one of my very favorite gardens. Although no books anout the garden were available, I managed to find a used book on Amazon. I was extremely happy. I will treasure that garden visit for many years to come. I absolutely loved it!!!
Marnie W — Google review
Both my son and I were totally enchanted with this garden. Monet's paled in comparison. Right from the rambling planting on the house, to the great trees and streams with the footpaths down the middle made of great slabs of stone to the chickens, tiny chicks and rabbit running about. Beside the Agapanthes there is a marvellous display of Hydrangeas and many more shrubs growing freely or clipped to shape. At the end coffee is served by the manager, but he made an exception for us because we were English and brought us a huge pot of tea, then sat and chatted to us. We had all our questions answered and felt we had received personal attention and great hospitality. I would recommend this place to any garden lover.
Susanna H — Google review
Very disappointed. We had fond memories of a visit some years ago but the garden has really lost its way since. It appears to be more a dumping ground for the owner's stock plants. A building shown on the map of the garden isn't even there any more.

Immerse yourself in the timeless beauty and rich history of Abbaye de Jumièges, a vast monastery founded by Saint Philibert in 654. Nestled in the picturesque Seine valley, this ancient abbey offers a mesmerizing blend of tranquility and charm. The magnificent ruins and ancient church provide an unforgettable experience, while the surrounding scenery with its ancient trees adds to the magical atmosphere.
We loved this Abbey! Worth the visit and the walk. It also has a great gift shop. The town nearby is cute as well. I would recommend buying a guide book as there wasn’t that much information available around the Abbey.
Danielle L — Google review
€7 for this fabulous 13th Century Abbey, with oooodles of history, before and after, the remaining building you see today. This huge monastic building , with its cloisters, nave, transept and 46m tall towers dominate the town. Allow time to wander, imagine times gone past, changes to the religious feelings of the days. There are information boards scattered throughout, an informative leaflet in numerous languages, and guides on site for more if wanted. We noted headsets at €5 and you can have a tour guide too. Unfortunately the monks house at the very top of the grounds was shut (no explanation). The bakery has a little display in it and is worth a walk over to it via the walled garden area. Toilets and gift shop on entry/exit. Very interesting, great value, definitely worth a stop if in the area.
Polly W — Google review
extremely beautiful ruins in a very green park with gigantic old trees 🌳. we first walked around, then hung out for a bit in a ‘beach’ lounge chair that we could move to a spot of our own liking, which in our case was a spot in the shade of a huge tree, right in between the ruins. if you're visiting on a sunny day and you need a break from driving around, bring some water and a snack and perhaps a book and plan for up to two hours here. 😌
Wouter B — Google review
Amazing place to visit and walk around these fantastic ruins. We visited on a very hot day but managed to find plenty of shade in the grounds with plenty of seating provided. Parking was also very accessible around the town, there was a long residential road opposite where we parked on the verge like most people were doing.

Ana V — Google review
On a little sign (and noted on the back of the free visit pamphlet) we found the link to the Jumieges 3D app and it really made our visit (available in English, French, German, Italian). The free basic pamphlet is available in French, English, German, Spanish, Italian, and Dutch. There is a free audio guide on the app and a function where you can view a recreation of what you would be looking at in the past. Note that guided tours are exclusively in French. You can choose to pay €5 for an audio guide tablet available in French, English, German, and Italian. There are lots of areas to sit down and the trees provide good shade on hot days. The exposition in the Logis Abatial at the back of the property featured artists predominantly from Tunisia and it was worth a (free) visit as well! We visited from Rouen by bus for a day trip and a few hours was all we needed. You can buy bus tickets to get back to Rouen at the Tourism Office because you cannot pay by card and the app doesn’t work well.
Jasmine P — Google review
Beautiful setting and much larger than first appears. There are lots of paths in the grounds to take, and the abbey ruins really are spectacular. We we're surprised that there was no cafe, and food/drinks were not on sale. There is a cafe in the town close by but this doesn't open until 12.00.
Emma W — Google review
Very old romanic cathedral, 7th century built, later in Gotic style extendet. The monastery was plundered after the French Revolution and the stones were used for local house construction. If the original monks had known this, it would have been in a drama. Very impressive to look at, nice reception and shop. The bar opposite has cold beer too!

The FORGESHOTEL - Domaine de Forges is a charming estate located in a 27-acre park featuring a lake, a beach and lush nature. The hotel boasts various amenities such as a casino, restaurant, bar and health spa. Additionally, the property offers meeting rooms for business purposes. Guests can enjoy free WiFi access and private parking during their stay. The La Table de Forges restaurant serves European buffet-style cuisine that guests will surely love.
This hotel is excellent! It's well located with an amazing spa that has no restrictions on access time from 9:00 am to 11:00 pm. Although it's a bit far from Paris, about 1 hour and 45 minutes by car, the spacious rooms and very comfortable beds make up for it. The hotel also has a bar and a fun animation timetable. The restaurant offers a fantastic buffet for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with a wide variety of options. My personal favorite was the dinner buffet, which had an array of delicious starters, main courses, and desserts. Additionally, there are plenty of activities for both adults and kids, including biking, tennis, ping pong, mini-golf, and hiking circuits right from the hotel.

Amazing hotel and services, stayed on the gourmet package while touring France on our way back to UK so this is what we needed. Everything was perfect, we were with our 5yrs old boy and we enjoyed all the activities which were amazing and included in the package swimming pool, table tennis, mini golf, tennis, playground. Both breakfast and dinners were delicious too. We will return again! Apologies if I missed out anything but it’s just so much to do at this hotel. Thank you again.

Buffet ran out of selections too quickly. The hotel lacked clear signposting from the town/main road. You need to reserve a slot at the buffet early in the servings otherwise they shrug when you are surprised there's only the worst things left.

Museums
The Rouen Museum of Fine Arts, also known as the Meeting of Metropolitan Museums (RMM), is a must-visit destination for art enthusiasts. Established by Napoleon, this museum boasts an extensive collection of paintings, sculptures, drawings, and decorative arts spanning from the 15th to the 21st centuries.
Un vrai trésor insolite! What a wonderful Sunday surprise to find a museum with free (!!) entry, no crowds, and room upon room of abundant chefs d'oeuvre from artists ranging from local stars like Bouton and Zacharie to luminaries such as Renoir, Sisley, Velasquez and Caravaggio. Cherries on top were the absolutely lovely and helpful staff (including the delightful staff member with the gorgeous earring 💜 and the coupe casquette) and the excellent selection in the shop. Also, there's a grand piano you can play surrounded by great art — what a treat!!We'll be back!

The Monet was a bucket list item. Easy to find. Friendly staff and such a pleasant atmosphere. A variety of amazing artists. There are a few paintings that just blow the mind with their size and complexity. Not sure if wheelchair friendly. The toilets were clean and tidy. Lockers for bags and a curio shop. Well located and has few restaurants in the area. The video attached of the Seine and the artists paintings along the river.

Beautiful fine arts museum; free entrance, open daily from 10 AM. It has 2 floors; some exhibitions are paid. Amazing beautiful hall at the ground floor with 3 huge pictures made by Dufy, other big pictures and many statues. The museum houses works of famous painters and sculptors; some decorations are also on display. 1-2 hours. Highly reccomended!
Carmen S — Google review
A truly beautiful and inspiring museum — one of the best in Normandy 🎨. The collection covers everything from medieval to modern art, including masterpieces by Monet, Caravaggio, and Delacroix. The layout is open and easy to follow, allowing you to take your time and enjoy each room without feeling rushed. 🖼️ What Makes It Special The balance between classical and impressionist works is perfect. The lighting and spacious halls create a calm atmosphere that lets you appreciate every detail of the art. Many of the pieces are directly connected to Rouen’s history and its influence on the Impressionist movement. 🎧 Practical Tips ✅ Free entry — a huge plus for such a quality museum. ✅ Descriptions available in both French and English. ✅ Café and gift shop inside for a relaxing break. 🚗 Parking is nearby, and the museum is just a short walk from the city center. But its very hard to find a spot! So if u find any in the way just park and walk If you love art, history, or architecture, this place is a must-see. Take your time, enjoy the silence, and let the paintings tell their stories. ⸻ For more tips follow me on Google. I have a lot of maps and places to visit all around the world 🌎 all for free for my followers on Google Maps. @Amagi.zi

One of the best well organized museums I’ve visited. Almost in every room there is a sitting area, so the visitors can take a break from walking and standing, also allow ppl to take their time to enjoy the art. The map and marks are very clear to follow. The whole experience is easy, no rush and delightful, The collections of the impressionist arts are impressive. And it’s free entrance! Highly highly recommended.

Mildly surprised by this place. Lots of stuff you normally pay to see elsewhere is on exhibit for free. Also surprised to find a Carravagio that is meant to be in Naples. A lovely place, not busy and air conditioned

The museum building is very handsome. A good section of this museum is free. The artwork and sculptures are amazing. Photo's allowed without flash. There were two staff to answer any questions.

A good surprised with great display. You can see the painting up close, see the brush stroke and smell the paint close. Great building and not crowded with traditional and impressionist arts. And it's free entry, it's a gem.

The Historial Jeanne d’Arc is a history museum located at the Archdiocese of Rouen, dedicated to the story of Joan of Arc. The museum showcases her life as a historical figure, myth, and religious icon through holographic displays. Visitors can explore the medieval buildings where she was threatened with torture and where her trial took place. The museum also features a retrial that occurred 25 years after her death.
Fantastic re-enactment tour of Jeanne's d'arcs story and trial. Very engaging well paced and interesting. They have styled the tour in side the old archbishops palace where projectors are used on the cleaned walls for aesthetic and intriguing storytelling. We needed English audio guides, which were free. Tour takes about an hour and you need to wait for the tour time to start because its video based. There is also other rooms after to look through after as well. Great view of Rouen here as well!

Well worth the time if you’re visiting. Excellent presentations of ancient events. The translation devices worked well. Two tips make sure volume is up and don’t put the receiver in your pocket. It seems to have a small aerial which you can see but the unit struggles if this is obscured. Much more knowledgeable after the tour.
Craig T — Google review
A really impressive modern exhibition about Joan of Arc’s life, full of projections, 3D visualizations, and a strong immersive vibe. The beginning feels like a historical movie you actually get to step inside. Later parts are more traditional, with documents and classic displays. Still, the whole experience holds together well — even those who skipped history class will walk away understanding why Joan remains such a legendary figure.
Michael N — Google review
Very interesting museum leading you through a retrial of Joan. Very immersive exhibits where you are lead through multiple rooms each with projections. Also set in the bishop's palace so included access to some rooms at the end with great views of the city.
Alfie N — Google review
I would have given 5 stars for this attraction about the life and death of Joan of Arc but as it’s a video exhibition in French you need to wear a headset. Whilst this doesn’t bother me you really have to have it loud to drown out the French audio on the video. Some great rooms and views of Rouen though, don’t be afraid to try doors to get into the chapel (see picture).
Lee H — Google review
Rather than a museum, it is a linear, immersive tour presented in multiple stages by means of a light/projection show while traversing up and around through the palace’s rooms and towers. The entire experience has high production value and very comprehensively explains the history of Jeanne D’Arc from beginning to end. I did not know about the place in advance so I was pleasantly surprised at the presentation. Highly recommended for those who want to learn in a more dynamic fashion.
Luis A — Google review
We luckily arrived right before a session was starting so didn’t have to wait before beginning. The concept is a multimedia presentation that takes place over several rooms that a large tour group moves through. Every session is the same, presented over loud speakers with projected visuals that were quite cool. If you want a translated audio, it is included in the price of your ticket. The headphones don’t actually sit in your ears and sometimes it was quite hard to tune out the French (especially if you mostly understand that too) to hear the translation. It was a bit of a sensory overload. In at least one quarter of the rooms there is not enough seating for the whole group, so if you have accessibility needs be sure to speak up to get a seat. It is largely wheelchair accessible although the main group takes lots of winding stairs. The story is told through actor portrayals of Joan’s contemporaries and is quite engaging. We did learn a lot, but still had some unanswered questions at the end (why was she called Joan of Arc?). Overall I think this is worth a visit if you want a different museum experience, you have kids, or you know very little about Joan of Arc. I would have been happier to pay slightly less for the experience.

Located in Rouen, the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Rouen is a stunning 12th-century Gothic cathedral with a rich history. The cathedral offers tours that include the remains of a crypt from a Roman structure on site. As you approach the cathedral from the Gros-Horloge shopping street, you'll notice its asymmetrical facade, reflecting its centuries-long construction and renovation history.
Absolutely beautiful! One of the most breathtaking churches I have been too! Walking inside takes your breath away. The ceilings are giant, the statues amazing and the stained glassed windows just wow! We didn’t have to pay to enter. It is breathtaking. Loved all the statues on the outside with the gargoyles everywhere.

Impressive, monumental cathedral in every sense of the word. With highly detailed, intricate sculptures piling on every inch of the building, it is a stunning, beautiful structure all around. There is a large tent set up in the front currently, perhaps for a reception or important event, it obstruct part of the front view. Walk around and to the back, the design continues to impress. There are cafe shops, restaurants and fast food takeout, pastries, souvenir shops nearby. The uniquely frrncg architecture, medieval looking town is so quaint and pretty to visit. Wear comfortable shoes as the town is walkable and all cobblestoned, it can be hard on the feet after a while. There are several other great attractions earby such as the large clock, Jeanne D'Arc church...all are must-see monuments. I didn't go inside the cathedral (not religious) just love European flares, history and art.

A breathtaking masterpiece of Gothic architecture — one of the most magnificent cathedrals in all of France ⛪✨. Standing before it feels like stepping back through centuries of history, art, and faith. Every detail, from the intricate façade to the towering spire, tells a story of devotion and craftsmanship. 🏛️ What Makes It Special The cathedral inspired Claude Monet, who painted it over 30 times to capture how light changes its appearance — and when you stand there, you understand why. The play of light and shadow across the façade is mesmerizing, especially during sunrise and sunset. Inside, the soaring ceilings and stained-glass windows create a peaceful, almost spiritual silence. 🕰️ Historical Importance Built between the 12th and 16th centuries, it houses the heart of Richard the Lionheart and remains one of the tallest church structures in France. Despite damage during wars and lightning strikes, it has been beautifully restored — a symbol of Rouen’s resilience. 📝 Practical Info ✅ Free entrance ✅ Light show (in summer months) — a must-see experience that brings Monet’s vision to life 🎨 ✅ Nearby cafés and shops for a perfect cultural stroll afterward A place that leaves you speechless — not just for its beauty, but for its soul. Whether you’re religious or not, standing here fills you with awe and peace. ⸻ For more tips follow me on Google. The church is beautiful and impressive! You can spend a good time admiring all the details on it. During the evening (10:30pm) they had a light show - it was SO BEAUTIFUL. It had history and beauty in the show and it was captivating. It’s for free, you just need to get around the church and enjoy the free experience. Highly recommend.

Huge impressive cathedral. Tribute to Jeanne d'Arc. Unfortunately, some parts have been distroyed in WW2, and renovated using concrete, and glass windows, instead of vitrages.

Impressive cathedral with wonderful stained glass windows and a crypte. You don’t need to be history or architecture savvy to appreciate this! The impressive tree next to the cathedral was planted in 1797 to commemorate the French Revolution.
Benoit S — Google review
Glorious cathedral both inside and out and the 10:30 light show was worth the wait. There are so many intricate designs and figures throughout the building that you could spend hours just checking them out.

Visiting the iconic Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris was an absolutely breathtaking experience. It’s truly one of the world’s most stunning architectural masterpieces. It’s amazing to see how beautifully it’s been restored after the devastating fire in 2019. The cleaned marble and vibrant stained glass made the interior glow like never before! Even with the long line (though I’m glad it moved quickly!), it was worth every second. There’s something so magical about standing inside a place with so much history and artistry. Seeing the rose windows, the stained glass windows, the sculptures, and the architecture was awe-inspiring. Notre-Dame always leaves a lasting impression. This 850 years old treasure is back and as magnificent as ever. If you are in Paris it is definitely a must see.

Château du Champ de Bataille is a magnificent 17th-century country mansion located in Normandy, often referred to as Normandy's Versailles. The chateau boasts grandeur and was built by Alexandre de Crequi Berneuille in the 1600s. The property features furnished apartments, formal gardens, and a vaulted tea house that adds to its charm.
The gardens are just breath taken! You can see that the castle was very good taken care of! Amazon aesthetics inside, I loved the ideas that they put there! The library was just wow, but I wished we could have enter more, and actually sit on a chair and explore it, but I also understand the idea of preserving it! Also the Indian part in the gardens was closed, but just looking through the window was just amazing! I totally recommend to visit this beauty!

The gardens are stunning. House is interesting but just a collection of items from the period. Give yourself a full day to see all.

We visited entirely by chance. A chateaux which was open and on our driving route. We knew nothing about it. The entry off the main road is understated, and we thought that maybe there was little to see. We persevered and continued to what is now the public carpark and entry. We could only visit the gardens because the house was open later and time was not on our side. That decision forced on us was excellent. You could spend a whole day walking through the grounds. There was so much to see, and it definitely should not be rushed. I would love to see the chateaux at night with the fountains lit and the fires lit. What an excellent place for a celebration.

A beautiful parkland golf course with picturesque undulating fairways and woodland surrounding. Some really cool par 3s including across valleys both up and down.

Not a great experience. To drive 90 minutes to & from Paris to this château isn’t worth it. They charge 27 euros to see the inside (only one of two buildings are open) and gardens and you’re aren’t allowed to take picture on the 2nd floor. (They don’t tell you this when paying which is deceitful) They literally had 2 hall monitors to make sure you don’t take pictures. People took the shots they could ! That was ridiculous. Considering you can see Versailles for 1 euro more and it’s 10x bigger, more beautiful, closer to Paris and you can take images! - it’s not worth to make the drive there and back. The gardens were ok nothing amazing. You have chateaux like Fontainebleau, Champs sur Marne, VLV etc that are closer, less expensive, more beautiful and you can take images. You can skip this château, not worth it in any sense.

Château Gaillard is a 12th-century ruined hilltop castle that offers breathtaking panoramic views of the River Seine and the lush countryside. Built under Richard the Lionheart's command in just two years, it served as a crucial stronghold until its destruction in 1603. While only the ruins remain, visitors can explore the inner bailey, upper court, and dungeon with tickets. The chateau grounds are open year-round for exploration of the outer bailey.
A perfect ruin to explore on a sunny day. We hiked up the path & it felt great to stretch our legs. The views are very nice. All Richard the Lionheart fans must see this place while wondering...maybe, just maybe, I am standing where he has stood before. Isn't that an incredible thought?

Pros: - Fantastic view! - interesting history. - very large with many spaces to walk and explore. - well maintained. Cons: - The toilet is in the parking lot so make sure you go before you head up. - the walk from the parking lot to the castle is at times quite steep and on uneven surfaces. So be cautious and wear appropriate Footwear for gravel and loose surfaces. - there are some areas where falling is a real hazard so those with young children may need to keep them close at hand.

Hello, Really nice chateau, We spent around two hours walking from one room to another inside. There are some rooms that offer a lot of interesting things to see such as the main hall, library etc., some had really just a a few things or barely anything. The chateau and some furniture had signs of "wear & tear", but they didn't spoil the overall impression. My wife and I spent around two hours for the rooms and thirty minutes for the gardens. The gardens didn't impress us as much as chateau, may be because we not in the mood. Also noticed a few buildings outside that we could visit such as "the wash house", but, as I said, the options to see something there were a bit limited. In short: we enjoyed our visit, however, bit if you have a choice - choose one that us bigger and better maintained. Best regards, Rustam.

This is a review of the event, not the castle itself. The chateau itself is wonderful. The park is well maintained and has a lot of variety. The staff is friendly and attentive. We went for the annual nocturne festival. The festival was not well organized. There were not sufficient food stalls for all the people. Queues were long. We waited for over an hour to be told that there is nothing left. The live music was chef's kiss. But the music played in front of the chateau was a disaster. Top 50 chart music that did not fit the ambience at all. Gangster rap and techno just does not match with the surrounding. Leaving the event was a disaster. We live 5 minutes away and it took 1 hour to get back home. The police was very unfriendly and told us to do a 30 minute detour to get home. They told us that another road was blocked and no one was supposed to pass. BUT, they let some people through. They chose who passed and who did not. We were told it was a prefectual order. 5 minutes after they have told us that we cannot pass, they left and there were no restrictions anymore. They could have told us to wait instead of sending us 30km away. We will not return for the festival, but the castle itself is wonderful.

A beautiful church where the monet family tomb sits just outside. The church itself is lovely, with some medieval ceiling painting . Music of momks chanting plays in the background adding atmosphere . The windows, although fairly modern in design are simple and beautiful. Outside there is also the tombs of 7 airmen who died in a lancaster crash in June 1944. The church is about 15 mins walk from monets garden and we'll signposted.

The museum provides insight into the importance of Impressionism for French and world art.
It's a wonderful place to visit. You'll definitely spend about two hours there, exploring the gardens and museum. It's definitely a great trip idea. However, the store prices were very high, which was very disappointing. I only managed to buy three postcards. Still, it was a wonderful experience.
Şimal D — Google review
Wonderful gardens, well worth a visit - however, immensely crowded, there is no limit to the number of people allowed in. Nearby are a few nice restaurants. Also the Museum of Impressionism (separate ticket). The line to enter Monet's house was too long, but we've seen it before. We prefer more time in the gardens, which in late May when we visited, were bursting with color.
Joel D — Google review
Nice museum, not a lot of Impressionism but mainly related artwork and contemporary influenced art. It’s worth the detour if you have the time. Don’t be sad to skip it. Best is the garden flower arrangements. The staff is friendly and helpful. The museum is often empty
B R — Google review
Great collection. Perfectly sized. It’s about an hour to go around all the pieces and take them in. Plus, you can go for a walk around the connected gardens. We bought an ice cream outside and went around the lawn, very pleasant.
Stuart M — Google review
It was really less than I expected. But it is a neat and good place for lovers of impressionist art. The staff was very professional and courteous. Overall, I recommend visiting and shopping at the museum store.
Mohammad K — Google review
Fantastic Air Conditioning! Clean bathrooms! Cute boutique. Modern building! Uhhh...the art is also interesting. They have lesser known American impressionists and contemporary art. But mostly, it's quiet, cool, and a respite from the hordes at Claude Monet's house down the block.
Olivia L — Google review
Even during a rainy day this place is a must-see for art / Monnet / impressionist lovers! It is a well-maintained garden in principle with a pond with a ‘Japanese bridge’ that only truly art-insensitive guest will not recognize…
Tomasz Ż — Google review
A little too many people. It is better to go on weekdays and buy tickets in advance otherwise you will stand in line for too long. It is better to come there in the morning

Fondation Monet in Giverny is a must-visit for art enthusiasts and nature lovers. It encompasses Claude Monet's charming house, ornate gardens, and the artist's studio adorned with Japanese prints. The Musee des Impressionnismes Giverny, which recently celebrated its 10th anniversary, offers a romantic and surprising artistic journey. Visitors can explore exhibitions showcasing the museum's collections and American landscape artists' work during the French Impressionist period.
It was a beautiful visit! The lily pond in early October was not as stunning as in the summer time when I had first visited here. But it was probably less crowded. What an inspiring place! The town has certainly become more popular with visitors, though.
June J — Google review
Monet's house and Gardens were a must see on my trip to France. We were just there a few weeks ago (late September) and the gardens were lush and absolutely stunning. We had entry tickets at 12pm and didnt have to wait. It was a great time of year to visit, we got a mix of very colorful flowers, autumn changes starting but also a good amount of water lilies that had bloomed. Really stunning. We walked into the town of Giverny after walking through the house and gardens and it was such a quaint town. We stopped at the Giverny chocolat shop, very good! Highly recommend a stop in Giverny!
Trina H — Google review
Always wanted to visit and I wasn't disappointed. Even in mid October, the gardens are still beautiful with many flowers in bloom. The lily pond had a bit of scum on but still pretty. The house is lovely. So many original photos and paintings, though few of Monet's. Then of course there is the shop. Lots of lovely gifts and books. Plenty of free parking with free overnight campervan parking nearby.
Gillian — Google review
Visiting Claude Monet’s house has been my dream, and it finally came true. The place is truly stunning and incredibly captivating from a design perspective. Every detail is beautifully crafted, and the colors are chosen to perfection. The garden is well-kept and absolutely gorgeous, with the iconic lily pond I had always wanted to see - simply remarkable. The entire estate is so well maintained, and being there felt like touching something truly sublime.
Alina S — Google review
We stopped here on our way to Normandy from Paris and were amazed at all the blooming flowers in late September. Monet’s house was a quaint cottage with beautiful views of the gardens. The restaurant food was delicious and the server was wonderful. Highly recommend it!
Ellen A — Google review
I don't know where to start! The house is a piece of art the gardens are pieces of art, the whole town is cute! Absolutely beautiful. Things that should be considered, how to get there, the season, the crowd, so that you know what to expect,I've been there twice, in June it was super hot super crowded but beautiful, and in October , chill weather less crowded, less flowers but the trees were magical
Fatin A — Google review
It was quite crowded for a rainy October day. I think it's quite difficult to get there in the summer. When you get off the train from Paris, you have two transportation options: a shuttle and a bus that resembles a children's train. Both cost 10 euros. I don't think the shuttle bus runs between 1:20 and 3:20, so keep that in mind when planning your return train. Monet's extensive Japanese collection was quite striking. The interior was quite colorful. If you don't plan to spend much time taking photos and want to explore the village, 3-3.5 hours is more than enough. There's an interesting mechanical museum in Giverny, open from 2 pm to 6 pm. Time your visit accordingly for a more enjoyable trip. Other than that, it's a typical European village.
Zeynep — Google review
Absolutely beautiful but very very crowded. The gardens are very easy to walk with wonderful displays of flowers. The lake is spectacular The house is easy to navigate and quite lovely we had approximately a 15 min queue to enter. I would advise you to buy tickets on line before hand the queues for tickets were massive. We got on line tickets so had no wait time. Parking is plentiful and free. There's a good choice of restaurants and cafes just outside the gardens they are quite pricey.

Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Castle of La Roche-Guyon is a stunning 18th-century manor house located in the picturesque town of La Roche-Guyon, nestled in the Ile-de-France region. Situated amidst the breathtaking loops of the Seine River and impressive cliffs, this massive mansion features an ancient tower atop chalk tunnels built into a cliff. During WWII, these tunnels were used by Rommel to store ammunition.
Not too far from the Maison de Monet, very beautiful surrounding village. The castle is enormous. They have large underground bunkers and caves for you to take a look, which are a very cool experience during the visit. Beautiful place. Worth a visit
Thu H — Google review
Fascinating place to visit, 12th century roots with a Second World War twist. Breathtaking views of Seine and beyond from top of the castle tower. But be warned - there are 250 steps, some steep, to reach top. Car park is currently undergoing refurbishment so plenty of patience required to find a place in the tight, narrow streets of the village.
David J — Google review
Undoubtedly, the crown of this visit is climbing the steep 250 steps through the cliff to get to the tower above the chateau. Once there, a few more steps to get to the very top from which you have a commanding 360 degree view of the Seine and surrounding countryside. Additionally, the storyboard about the chateau and village during WWII, with Rommel using the chateau as his HQ, is very interesting. The chateau itself has been under continuous renovation for decades, but is still worth the visit.
Mark M — Google review
Well preserved and looked after. The interior is alright but the building overall is quite impressive. If you can’t do stairs it’s not for you. Climbing to the tower is quite an endeavor and needs fitness.
Nawal Z — Google review
It's difficult to join it without car, but it costs the all efforts. 9.50 euro full tarif. They also have a discount for students. The stairs of Troglodite are absolutely must see. Unforgettable
Oksana S — Google review
Really cool spot with spectacular views and a lovely but steep hike. One of the coolest castles I've been to.
Jaya C — Google review
Summary - if this is on your route - a great spot to visit, but don’t go far out of your way. This castle which is connected into the cliff side provides a unique castle experience. While the interior is no versailles or Château Fontainebleau (the finishings are comparatively more modest), there is plenty to see and do. The highlight is of course going to the top where you are treated to a panoramic view of the Seine river and surrounding valley. Be aware - there are many steps with high variance in the step height and distance and with sharp grade. There are also some spiral staircases at the top which are tight and must accommodate both up and down traffic. So be extremely careful and skip this feature if you are unsure. If you are patient and in good physical condition - enjoy the exercise!

Very beautiful & well preserved castle! We went during the "journée du patrimoine" so ticket was only 2 euros. We also did the guided tour which was very detailed and thorough (it went over 1.5hrs and we ended up leaving early). Well worth the visit if you can!

Brilliant discovery. Play like in the good old days, no screens, no hi tech nonsense, just pure joy. The vilage 'Toutenbois' was built by the owners, all made of discarded materials and dead wood from their own property. A whole vilage was built and made interactive, the children can make the puppets move or even play music by pulling the strings. There's a whole aray of toys, bouncy castles, go carts, play tractors,... and after you take part in the treasure hunt, the owner even throws a little party, blinds down, lights on and he goes at it like a proper DJ. A big playground for big and small children, hidden gem so not crowded... children can play freely, no queues,... We had a great time with our children and enjoyed reliving our own childhood too! Definitely worth a visit!
Jessie P — Google review
Absolutely wonderful place, lots of magic for children! Lots for children and adults to do, from Bouncy castles, Go Karts, face painting and art work! The forest is full of the most amazing puppets all handmade by the owners, definitely worth a visit. The puppets are super and truly magical. The owners made us feel very welcome, great coffee, ice creams and candy floss! Fabulous place, 10/10 for us, we loved it and will come back again soon. Thank you so much!

Château d'Anet is a stunning Renaissance castle known for its exquisite architecture and historical significance. Built by Philippe l'Orme, it holds the tomb of Diane de Poitiers, the mistress of Henry II. The chateau offers guided tours that provide insights into its rich history and beautiful interiors. Visitors can explore the lovely gardens and chapel, although access to the garden may be restricted at times.
Beautiful small château with lovely gardens. It can be visited for 10 Euros. The guide was very knowledgeable about the castle. While we waited for our guided tour, we visited the chapel and the original owner's tomb.

Wonderful surrounds, and the tour guide was very accommodating in translating to English. However I do think its very overpriced for the experience. If there was a cheaper option to view the gardens and the exterior of the grounds that would be a better option.
Liesl L — Google review
Horrible experience. You aren’t allowed to take photos inside. This chateau is not the easiest to get to and to charge an admission fee and not be able to take photos is ridiculous. I wouldn’t have come. You’re also not able to view the chateau freely you have someone walking with you which isn’t my preference when visiting a chateau.

Wow Safari Thoiry

Outdoor Activities
Thoiry ZooSafari is a unique destination that offers a combination of zoo, safari tours, world farm, maze, play areas and a castle with gardens. Visitors can enjoy a beautiful day out observing well-cared-for animals in spacious enclosures. The zoo features an array of animals, some of which may be unfamiliar to many visitors. There are shaded areas and picnic tables available for relaxation. The zoo also boasts playgrounds and entertainment options suitable for visitors of all ages.
We had a wonderful family day at Safari Thoiry with our two-year-old! We started with the safari by car, which was a fantastic experience. Getting to see the animals up close was amazing, and our daughter loved every moment. The safari took about an hour since there were quite a few cars, but the wait was worth it. Afterward, we explored the zoo on foot, but we found ourselves a bit too tired to cover everything. Despite this, we still managed to see a wide range of animals, which kept our little one thrilled. However, we’d recommend breaking up the visit if possible because it’s challenging to do both the safari and zoo in one day and really take it all in. Overall, it was a memorable experience, and we’d definitely recommend it to families, but with the advice to pace yourselves or consider splitting it into two visits if possible!
Emile A — Google review
Well, it is not that good and not that bad. But nothing fun there, animals are sleepy/tired. Restaurants are expensive, so it is better to bring food with you. Go in the morning so you can visit the park on foot then by car at the same day. Peace!

wildlife park near Paris where you can drive through and see animals like elephants , giraffes, and rhinos up close ! There’s also a zoo, a botanical garden, and lots of fun for kids and families
Hassen M — Google review
The animals are stunning, and seeing them in environments that feel close to their natural habitats really made the whole experience special. 🥰 The Lion’s Den was definitely a standout. Highly recommend it for anyone who loves wildlife!
Tran N — Google review
This zoo is fantastic! I would recommend visiting the park first and doing the safari afterward. Excellent for every age.
Svetlana B — Google review
Thoiry is undoubtedly the best zoo I've ever visited! I brought along my 2-year-old and 5-year-old, and we all had an absolutely fantastic time. The hyena and lion areas stand out with tunnels that allow you to walk through their habitats under a glass covering, providing an incredible view of the animals. Thoiry offers several playgrounds and a massive rope/trampoline/climbing area that entertained all of us, including my 75-year-old mother. What's remarkable is the spacious enclosures for each animal, which are meticulously designed to replicate their local habitats, setting it apart from zoos in the US. Though we missed the drive-through experience, we explored the entire zoo and will return during our next trip to France. I highly recommend Thoiry, especially if you have kids!
Elizabeth N — Google review
I am not a big fan of zoos bit we took our 7yr old. This is a good zoo. The layout is very nice. They have a lot of interesting species that I had never seen, also tunnels through the feline enclosures. And a drive through “safari.” It’s all a bit small but very tidy, very nice. It always breaks my heart to see the gorillas bored to death. The kids games a great. The food is absolutely disgusting, bring a picnic lunch.
James J — Google review
Beautiful day out seeing animals who looked well cared and had proper spaces cared of to live in. Lots of animals, some of them we never saw before. It is amazing to see so many of them. Lots of shadow in the zoo. Playground in the middle. Picnic tables available. We arrived at the opening and left just before the closure - plan the whole day there!! Started with walking through the zoo and finished off with the car safari - great idea as we were happy to sit down at that point!

A lovely place, intelligently presented to the visitor through a very well thought-out audio guide and with a chapel that is outstandingly beautiful. You are taken through a millennium of French history as you walk around.

This was a real find as we were in the area and sort of just saw it and said lets go and have a look. So glad we did. It was great to have the audio guide so we could learn about the history of the place and BOY! Has it got some history. Interesting to see the painted glass windows that were very pretty. Only one thing I would say could have improved the experience. The gardens needed mowing and tidying and it really needs someone to go round with some weed killer before they get out of hand. I would recommend visiting if you are in the area.

I can't offer much beyond the looks from the outside and the very nice grounds. We didn't do the tour. We needed a little break and it was a Great place to just relax and rest on a blanket on the grass in the shade and look out over the city. If you are interested in the history of churches in France and French Royalty you'd be fascinated and give it a 5. The last of the Louis's was buried here after his beheading in the French Revolution. Many of his predecessors are here too.

Chapelle royale de Dreux This imposing site, located high above the city, contains tombstones / tombstones of the post-French period, on each tomb lies a stone statue - a masterpiece of the buried figure, in a characteristic position, With a book, sleeping, with a sword or even covered with a stone blanket. The building has spectacular stained-glass windows with colors (which are not clear) preserved for so many years and it is located on the fringes and under an ancient church and maintained at a high level. In addition, outside the building you can see a beautiful view of the city. If passing through the area - strongly recommended!

Not a very big butterfly enclosure but definitely worth a visit
Onur O — Google review
Nice experience, place is well organized and staff is kind. Maybe too expensive if you think about the other options of leisure. During my visit there was a bunch of kids yelling and running around, completely ruined my visit. Despite the requests from the staff, they kept the behavior. Place is small, visit can take up to 1h is you are interested in finding different species. Impossible to keep safe distance from others. Alcohol was available in the cashier, but only there. Possible to go with baby carriage, but you need to have assistance at the doors due to a sort of protection to keep the butterflies inside. Take care with babies, it can be quite hot inside. The store provides several options of plants that you can buy, prices are not that interesting, but it can be convenient with the coupon of discount (I got it at the entrance).

Musée Marcel Proust - Maison de Tante Léonie

Museum
Specialty Museums
Musée Marcel Proust - Maison de Tante Léonie is a charming and atmospheric museum that feels like stepping back in time. The house, which is featured in Marcel Proust's works, offers a perfect welcome by passionate individuals. Even for those not particularly interested in Proust, the upper-class residential building from the late 19th century is worth visiting. It's recommended to check the opening times beforehand as they can be unusual.
If you’re a Proust fan, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Very well done, great bookshop. Leave time to walk around the town and visit the church.

Not worth 7€ at all. It is better to have a look at the garden and come back. Going inside is okay if you are doing some of special research etc... otherwise read about him on the internet and you will be good. It is a very bad idea for the government to make museums so expensive, no wonder people prefer going to amusement parks or Mc Donald's instead of museums. Such exorbitant prices are elitist and discourage people to take education trips. Very disappointed.
