It is sad to see how abandoned the place is . 25 years ago I was here with a school, and I remember by then a conversation of our teacher and the owners who where responsible on running the museum. Our teacher was criticising the owners of low care, that the artists works and workshops not being properly preserved, and that was already visible by that time. Today I left the museum with deep disappointment. Everything is rotten , the workshop places, the wood sculptures the environment itself feels abandoned. Maybe that is the idea of letting it go after the last creators death, but then it should equally stand a clear statement explaining why museum is in such conditions. I would definitely be afraid of taking children, and I would not feel safe of letting them walk around, as all the under stone paths, sculptures, especially where the central composition/workshop stands it doesn’t look safe anymore, the feeling is that it can collapse at any time. Strange that no one from the government, department of culture and safety do not pay attention. Missing safety, guiding, information signs. No education centre with video, sound or just basic archives. The only good was the new toilet, but is it that why visitors stop by and pay 6 Eur entry fee? It looks like that the main business there is AIRBNB, party and wedding place. I give one star for those who currently running the museum and for sure the highest respect for artist and his endless imagination and the power of holding and controlling the stones.

Well, this place is more oriented to religious people, or who love stone craft - art. Many different crosses and sculptures related to religious traditions. You can find some other art instalations, but you have to understand and love arts to understand them. But overall, it is impresive to see how one man can change his environment and create this kind of place next to where he lives. For me most impresive thing was - World War II Soviet Tank. Not sutr what model it is but i gues it is “IS” series tank.

It gives a nice view at an old house and has a lovely view of the waterfalls. The playing card collection is very interesting and nice to see. People are also very helpful and nice.

The guide guy today was absolutely brilliant - fun, with knowledge, communicable and speaking at least 100 languages :D Free wide car parking, WC - it is there but.. hmm... The way to the caves was uneven with roots of trees - which was fine for us (with the baby on carry). The caves itself was dry - so any shoes are ok. The temperature in the caves was +8 degrees which was amazing to go to from +28 :) Caves are going from low to tight to wide and high. Recommending. If I remember right it was 8 euros for entrance. Small souvenir shop on the site at the till. Very helpful and active, friendly staff - I think 80% positiveness goes to them. Free car park. Plenty of spaces

They offer workshops for groups where you can make your own pralines. The premises are quite worn down and it's very much off the beaten path. If you're interested in chocolate, however, this makes for an excellent destination. Oh, and they have storks.

Extremly nice little castle with worldclass rooms and staff, combined with an amazing kitchen serving extremly nice food. You should absolutely take a room with fireplace it was amazing. Some improvements Dinner times were to early at only 18.00 There should be later choices. Bed very hard and noisy should be improved. Can really recommend this place🍷🙂

We have spent a couple of nights in the Barons room. The room was spacious and had a nice view. It was not very clean, but that's due to the brick floor, that you cant clean as other surfaces. Bubble bath was also not very clean, so I had to rinse it before using. Food was very good, and served in large quantities. Breakfast time starts at 9:30, quite late but perfect for vacation.

Visited the castle with 5yo child - we both enjoyed the excursion a lot! The woman who run the excursion for us was wearing medieval looking dress and fur vest. The excursion ended with her firing the real cannon (my child was impressed!). The stuff at the museum and the tavern speak Latvian, Russian and English. You can pay by card in the museum shop and in the tavern. I was fascinated by the decorations in the tavern: it was lit by real candles, one of the bouquets was decorated with the goat (?) skull and furry tail of some animal (not sure if those were real, but looked impressive and gothic). Parking near the castle has a lot of space. I haven’t stayed at the hotel. Currently (Feb 2024) the inner yard and the roof are under construction, but they promise to finish by May 2024.

At the breakfast we got only what was mentioned before in the list, plus glass of juice, even no water. It is not worth to order breakfast in the castle, it was poor. At the dinner we got fish which was very salty and not fresh. Complaint about the food to the waitress. She said she will find out. Despite that we got any clarification, apology or substitution of the dish. The chef must improve his/ her professional skills in the kitchen and not be afraid to go out of the kitchen to speak with customers. The waitress must be trained for the professional skills how to treat customers if something is going out of classic situation. There was nice, educative museum in the castle. Possible to buy some activities at the castle area.

I’m happy to see improvement, was interesting as I hadnt visited in couple years, however at first to get to tickets felt very abandoned, arrows were placed confusing, toilets were dirty. It might be nice also to consider always having some actor interaction, like for example giving tours at certain times for everyone, other than that since it was en route it was nice place to stop by, seeing how it has improved makes me hopeful this place is interested in growth :)

Here you'll find a real old locomotive, and surprisingly realistic historically looking bridges (actually consisting of only one half and going over a ditch that might look like a deep river when filled), buildings that have only facades, belonging to a big range of "age" and "function", and a fully-built ancient slavic or viking yard. The place is amazing!

We had a fantastic experience at Cinivilla Studio! The atmosphere there is truly remarkable, andI was exciting to witness the preproduction film creation process. Additionally, the studio offers convenient parking facilities. Moreover, the territory also features a cafe where you can enjoy a delicious meal.

It was the first butterfly house we visit in our life and the first opinion was that it is too small and old, but we saw a lot of butterflies inside. Different colors and sizes. After this butterfly house we are visited other in different European cities which was bigger and more expensive, but, all those other houses have only more space, but no more butterflies, even less that this butterfly house in Latvia. Recommended! P.S. time of our visit was end of July.

Visited this place after having a walk around the amazing Tervetes park. I must say that it has more potentional, but in the same time I am not saying it was bad! I think it is still great fun for the kids to see but it could be little bit cleaner inside.

A very cool place for a walk with the kids. Lots of interesting and cute things to see, including a village built for dwarves and an observation tower. Walk the park or catch a handy train that regularly drives between five stops. The park is clean, well laid out and looks amazing. If you want children to have fun exploring outdoors, I can think of few better places in Latvia.

Huge park with scenic views, castles and hiking trails. Check that the wooden castle is open before arrival if you're planning on going there. Even if not going there are many reasons to visit and enjoy the beautiful nature surrounds the trails. Don't miss climbing the hill, unforgettable view! Amazing!!! Especially if you know the story on which the park is based ( you can buy book in centre in 3 languages). Great for family's with kids, but there's a lot of walking. You need 1 whole day or even 2 if wanting to explore everything.

What a brilliant place to visit. It’s massive - we rented bikes from just outside the entrance, which were 15 Euro for a full day. We wouldn’t have been able to see nearly as much of the park without it. Dwarf village then dwarf city a good order to start. Fantastic playground, and in between we stopped at the lake for a swim as a hot August day. A full day type of place, and was a day well spent and would highly recommend!

Loved it!!! One of the best nature parks in Latvia for sure. It's big too, so easily few hours go by trying to explore it. I recommend walking it and then taking the little train around. They also rent bikes and little trailers you can use to pull the little ones on that might not be able to walk the distance.

This is a great place for younger children. My teenager and pre-teen also had lots of fun. A great walk in nature with lots of little guys and dwarf homes to play in. A nice park in one of the sections. Lots of different activities to do. We spent the whole day there. I would take a small backpack so you can carry your lunch with you but the cafes inside were reasonably priced. Our kids asked to return next summer to see what has been added. I didn’t find the petting zoo worth the cost. Most of the animals we sick and ill looking.

Amazing place! Beautiful wooden boardwalks through the bog, a scenic tower with stunning views, fresh air and peaceful silence. Especially magical at sunrise. Easy to reach from Riga. In summer, bring mosquito spray. A perfect spot to experience Latvia’s nature. Highly recommend!

This is one of those places that i was told is “all over instagram and you have to go”. Its quite a nice walk through the forest and then along the planks of wood that just keep you above the boggy water. Eventually you will reach a viewing platform where the view was amazing. Why i have rated this 4 stars is due to the public toilets. There are 4 portable style toilets at the parking and one not too much further into the forest. These toilets were a disgrace. The smell and cleanliness of these were disgusting and ruined the overall experience. Pointer….. go to the toilet before going

Little museum consentrated on different aspects of history- history of St.Trinity church, History of Jelgava and more. Museum exhibits are interactive and they have thought about children aswell accessability. Tower has elevator to move up and down. You still have to open the door to get into exhibition room and use glass staircase to get to city viewing area just under the glass roof. This may be an issue for some people. On top floor you can enjoy Jelgava city views through glass roof. Interesting place to visit. Not too time consuming unless you go through absolutely everything. Then it can take hours. Lady in the ticket office while I visited was really friendly and helpful.

The crown jewel of the city. The tower has the best city views, the story of this important Latvian city, an excellent example of a romantic cafe (the best cafe ever for my very well travelled friend) with outstanding food and service, fun interactive galleries (try wedding clothes or period jewellery!), and paintings by Latvian artists.

Not much to see there! The digital expositions are just ok. The view of the city at the top is not any great as the metal structure and the glasses disturb the view. Pictures are not worth up there, as you can see in one of my pics. Just the outside view of the tower is interesting.

I didn't expect this place to be so interesting! There are only 4 floors of thd tower open but each floor has a room with something interesting to find out. There is a floor dedicated to the city history, the church and Jelgava fashion. The 9th floor is a cosy place made of glass where you can seat and enjoy the view of the city. The 8th floor is the restaurant. The entrance fee for adults is 2.50€. There is WC and the elevator. Do spend some time in each room: it's worth it, especially the fashion room. They show a short video about fashion changing through the years. Recommended for visiting 💯%

Beautifully renovated tower. On the top you can oversee the whole city through the glass roof. On some levels exhibitions. While on the level with clocks you will find great restaurant. During lunch hours you can try simple, but very interesting lunch offers. In the evenings you can have nice dinner. Tasty choices for vegetarians. Interior fabulous.

Nice view on the observation deck of the tower on the 9th floor. Only $1 euro per person to take elevator up. We took the stairs down to visit the gallery and had lunch on the 8th floor. Beautiful decor and relaxing atmosphere. The frog legs, snails & mussels were all yummy.

Stunning orthodox church with a sad story. The church traces its history to 1710, when Peter the Great, Tsar of Russia, arranged the marriage of his niece Anna to Frederick William, Duke of Courland. The duke promised to build an Orthodox church in Jelgava (then known as Mitau), his capital, but his premature death prevented this. Anna wanted to get married in this church that was yet to be built.

Extremely beautiful temple - inside and outside! It's also nice that they let you take pictures inside, which I could not in others!!...

Lovely beach , been there many times since I live in Latvia . The only issue is that usually its really crowded but overall its really nice water is normally very warm and pleasant to swim in

The unexpected entry fee to Jurmàla put a dampener on our visit to the beach . You can’t purchase them online but you will find a vending machine before the entry ( which we missed) altogether a frustrating visit . The beach is long and nice for a walk . It’s probably lovely when it’s summer .

Nice sandy beach. Very long stretch of beautiful beach. Endless restaurants and cafes near by, parking bit of a chaos and hard to find a spot.

Well worth the €4 return train fare from Riga Central station. Some really cool old wooden houses, nice beach and cool Main Street.

Amazing beach! 👍 Apparently, 24km long! Very clean, beautiful place. A bit windy mid October so bring a wind breaker and something warm. It’s must-see in Latvia 🇱🇻❤️🥰

Visited on cloudy off season day so there wasn’t much open at the beech. But it was wonderfully peaceful and the turtle is beautifully crafted. Well worth the short walk from the town centre to see.

Great entry point to the beach activities

Amazing statue coming on/off the beach on the stairs. This large statue is very large and makes for a great shot with the kids. If you are in the area, definitely stop by. Place the kids on for a big smile.

An iconic symbol of the resort. If you are in Jurmala, don’t miss it. You will find the sculpture easily. A bronze turtle stands in front of the beach with white Jurmala letters inscription in the middle of it. The resort is rich of interesting architecture and there are many vacationers everywhere. Worth visiting to feel the vibe.

Nothing great here. Just a turtle statue with wings. People can sit on top of the turtle and take pictures. One good thing is that it overlooks the sea and there are seats around the side for relaxing.

Great place for families with small kids. A huge selection of different attractions and playgrounds accordingly to age. My 6 years old loves this place and likes to challenge himself on Tarzan lines. We been going there for years when visiting Jurmala. Highly recommended for families with kids any age.

Really nice park for families. It had a lot to offer including activities such as climbing facilities for children of all ages, free and clean toilets, ice cream, slides, electric toy cars, a watch tower and more.

Great place for kids and teenagers, loved the Tarzan zip ride attraction for 12 euros 4 different levels and various obstacles. My 9 year old niece loved it. 2 minutes away from sea side. Can purchase gloves as well. Cafe on site.

I have been there 3 times with my kids over the years and it has always been a great experience. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The water and rooms are warm, which is very important to me.

I came to this waterpark on a school trip from the neighbouring country Lithuania and i think that it truly is a beautiful water park, with a lot of attractions, BUT. I didn’t like the fact that we had to wait in line to get a floatie and then walk 4-5 floors to get to the attraction, but that didn’t bother me that much. What bothered me is that you have to find places to put your shoes or towels and they are in pretty much hidden places, so you have to search, the lifeguards/workers practically ignored me and answered really boringly, so it didn’t feel welcoming, although there was one guy which was there when me and my friend were going to the extremes and he was very nice and comforting. MY BIGGEST ISSUE is about the orange slide. It cut my friend in the back and left severe bruising, skin ripping and almost blood. Im 165cm and my friend is 185 cm, for me it was fine but for my friend her back was really bruised and hurt alot, although the slide itself doesn’t have a height range. Although the red slide was way faster and supposed to be more scary, it was more enjoyable than the orange one. I don’t know whos going to read this, but please check out the ORANGE EXTREME SLIDE. This is a very low quality photo and after some medicine. It was way worse before. If you look closely you can see the skin it ripped and the “hole” it made.

Our family had a blast here. So much fun. It wasn’t busy at all and we barley waited in line for water slides. Lots of various slides so there is something for everyone, young, old, adventerous or not. Food was a bit pricey but I expected that since it was a waterpark.

They didn’t let us in because we didn’t have printed gift cards — such an old-school policy and not exactly eco-friendly! The staff were strict and unforgiving, seemingly just waiting for a child to make one small, innocent jump or move too quickly, only to issue a warning with a cold, arrogant expression. I’m all for safety and rules, but this felt excessive. The water and air temperature were also a bit too low for our comfort. That said, the rides were great, and the food in the cafeteria was tasty!

This is a great water park, it’s expensive to get in the 3 hour option is just nuts you save about 3 euro on a day pass. There’s food and drink inside the pool, cocktails 🍸 in the pool sure no problem. Food is standard fare. You get a pre loaded bracelet with €80 on it what is used to pay for food and drink . ( when you leave you pay for what you used) There’s food slides are great, this is more for teenagers, there are activities outside for smaller children but if it’s cold there are no other real options other than wave pool and lazy river There are saunas (up to 90 degrees C) and steam room and bubble baths Kids are allowed in the sauna < 16 Overall pool is clean and warm

Went today with my boyfriend and friend and wasn't impressed. Even though most of the slides were closed due to it being low season the price was still the same but for less attractions. My boyfriend and friend went down the red horizontal slide. My boyfriend and friend tried to encourage me to go down but i was nervous. The Lifeguards were very rude radioing to eachother and laughing as I didn't go down straight away. No one else was waiting to use the slide so i wasn't holding up a queue or anything. I explained to the lifeguard i had Autism and struggled with nerves and things. He then radioed to his friend at the bottom of the slide in another language laughing. He was very blunt and said "can you swim" to which i replied "yes" and all he said was "go down then". Lifeguards should be encouraging but these two were just rude. The lifeguard at the bottom motioned to kick me down the slide, then the lifeguard at the top came towards me and put his foot behind me. I immediately stood up so he couldn't kick me down the slide and we walked away. Not really a funny "joke" to someone who's nervous and has explained they have Autism. The two lifeguards began laughing to eachother. Another lifeguard then approached us to ask why i didn't go down the slide, I explain i had Autism and was nervous and told him about the other lifeguarding gesturing to kick me down the slide. He said the lifeguard wouldn't do that anyway. Regardless of whether he would or wouldn't he shouldn't have gestured it, especially after explaining i have Autism. Very upset with the way we were spoken to and treated, asked to speak to a manager but apparently there wasn't one on site. I would not recommend this place and won't be returning. These lifeguards should not have these jobs ! 😡

Although we had a day of fun at the aqua park, anyone going there should be aware that there is a minimum height of 120cm for almost all the slides and attractions. This was quite a disappointment for our 6-year old child who was just under the minimum height requirement. The staff was also very diligent in upholding this requirement. Will also stress that we thought the entry fee was high. We paid about 150€ entry for a family of 5. All in all we spent about 200€ at the park. After the initial disappointment we all managed to have fun. The place is also in need of some TLC, especially given the high entry fee!

Enjoyed visiting the Aviation Museum near Riga International Airport, a collection of 40 Cold War-era aircraft, primarily Soviet models, founded by retired aircraft engineer Victor Talpa. MiG and Sukhoi fighter jets, Tupolev airliners, and one of the world’s largest helicopters- Mil 6 are on display. Info about each aircraft is available in Latvian, Russian and English, sometimes Victor provides informal tours. Functions on minimal staff (Victor and a few former pilots), the entrance fee is 10 Euros per person which goes toward the rent and maintenance of this quirky museum. Located 15 min by taxi from Riga Airport’s terminal. Install Bolt Taxi App in advance. Open daily. Visitors may need to call Victor for access in advance. While parents are looking around, kids can play with different toys provided by locals. Enjoy it!

This is a must see place for aviation enthusiasts. Very rare planes and helicopters are on display. The museum is open air so the weather has taken its toll. Mig-25, Tu-22, Mi-6, L-29s, Mig-21s and Mig-23s are in fairly good conditions. Don’t expect Udvar-Hazy type of environment here. Bus 43 will take you there from Riga city center.

Has some really interesting planes and helicopters, but this whole place looks more like trash dump than museum. Instead of being preserved, planes are dismantled and everything valuable is taken out. Whatever is left can most often be seen only from distance, no climbing inside or anything like that. Pretty sad view overall and 10eur ticket price is too high.

Nice museum close to the airport, it costs €10 to enter but definitely worth it!

Most stuff is not in a good shape, but still very interesting to see aircraft and trucks from the Soviet era in a very 'used' condition. Unfortunately there's nothing else to do there, no coffee, nothing to buy. It feels more like a junkyard lost in time - in a good way.

7€ might seem a bit much at first but it's definitely worth it. You can see so many Soviet era aircraft that it's breathtaking. There are even ship mines and missiles on display. The deicing or snow removal trucks together with stairs and a fire truck complete the picture. It's great to spent some 30 to 45 minutes before the flight.

We are the tourists from Lithuania. We were terryfied by museum assistant being a total "vatnik", which called a legal Latvian government "the naciks" - he was telling the propaganda about soviet era and how the independent Latvian government did not care about the old soviet airplanes. We did not speak to the owner of this museum, but I suppose, he thinks the same, as his assistant. Overall - totally dissapointed with the experience, visiting this museum - that looks more like a trash dump, not a proper airplane museum. Do not recommend it!!
