This museum is inside the Citadel, and part of the ticket price. A detailed history of lifeboats in France. The Citadel itself Larger than appeared from the approach a good example of a star citadel. Even with renovations during our visit plenty to see and learn.

Very good museum that shows the history of the East India company that includes the links to the British history of trading with China and the Orient. Don't miss out on the ancient porcelain exhibition on for the summer, Chinese figurines from the 17th century and an amazing exhibition of fans, of all things.

A really interesting place to visit and full of beautiful exhibits. Recommend getting an audio talk as most of the displays are in French. Staff helpful.

It's best to book a time slot in advance. It's not an extensive museum but it is interesting and the walk through the submarine with audio commentary is worthwhile.

We took the English speaking tour of the K3 building and then we did the submarine museum with the walk though of the submarine and it was well worth the trip.

The exhibitions before the tour is very interesting and informative. The audio tour inside the Flore is just perfect. My two girls (18 and 8) enjoyed the museum too. It was an emotional moment for me as I did my first dive in La Flore in 1984 during military service. I feel very lucky I'm able to visit a boat I was once a crew (even for a very short time only). The other submaribe based in Lorient I spend most time on was sent to the scrapyard. I will be back to visit the base (again). Merci!

Amazing history, I didn't manage to get on the U-boat which I'm sure would have been great. Seeing the history of the port is very educational and great few hours out. Little food stalls around when you get hungry too

A great day out, visiting the submarine, museum and submarine pen. The staff are all very friendly and extremely informative, particularly the guide for the k3 pen. Would also recommend the sailing trip around the harbour. Plenty of restaurants to choose from so spoilt for choice.

We are so glad that we visited the museum and submarine itself. In the museum u can watch 3 films telling us history of Bretagne, times of WW2 and now times. To go inside of the submarine it's a great chance to dive in life of marines. I was with my son, his age is 11 and my friend with the son of the same age.

The tour of K2 of the submarine. It was a great experience. Well laid out. Well lit. The story at the start was interesting. This part of the tour they have multiple languages preset so you get all the information. Visiting k3 and the guided tour was interesting but only available in french and to visit k3 you need a guide. The tour guide had a lot of knowledge and passion but was too fast for myself to translate and was not able to absorb the interesting history and story. K2 and sub is well worth visiting alone. Also a great way to escape when the heat gets to hot.

There’s like four parts to the base museum and half of them weren’t open, the submarine part is only french and for each part you need a separate ticket. Entry to just the Tabarly part was 14€ each and the clerk told us it would take about two hours. We took our time but were outside again after 30 minutes and learned pretty much nothing. It’s probably educational if you know exactly zero about how a boat works. We felt kinda ripped off and the only thing that redeemed the trip was that we “accidentally” walked through a restricted section of the k2 bunker which was pretty cool.

Very good place for amateur of sailing and for kids. Kids and adult will love it many explanation et games (simulator, videogames, winches etc..to learn how to sail. Very friendly staff. Great experience you can combine with the « sous marin » and the tyrolienne!!

Fascinating and vast. Lots of handson stuff to do for kids and the surrounding wartime submarine experience is def worth the tour. It's like a film set but real!

Great place, especially with kids. 4stars for parking as it's really terrible, had to park quite far cos local car parks were full ( we got there at11am ) and for the long wait for getting tickets - as there is a lot to do with different tickets, the staff takes a long time sharing all info with each group (it's all good info, but there only 3 staff).

This was our second time with Breton Bikes. Having done a route up to the North we chose a route South to Carnac from the wide range of options. With the overnight ferry from Plymouth we arrived quite early on Saturday but they were able to accommodate this and had our bikes and camping equipment ready. The route directions were detailed but easy to follow and we spent the week on a variety of campsites ranging from very basic to quite commercial. On the previous trip we'd had a minor problem with one bike. Geoff had been very happy to drive out to us when we phoned but in the end talked me through what was needed to fix it. No problems at all this time though. Altogether a very enjoyable trip and we are already thinking about a third.

Very, very positive experience with Breton Bikes. Great bike routes and scenery - this is rural Brittany! Wonderful accommodations - small guest houses or hotels in which we could talk with the hosts or guests. Being on our own for meals worked great - we could eat what we wanted and when we wanted. We had one small glitch with a bike and Geoff was very quick to respond and fix it. We are independent travelers so being on our own with maps worked well for us but Geoff was available if we had questions. Highly recommend Breton Bikes!

What a wonderful way to spend a week! Brittany's beauty exceeded our expectations. It was a delight to cycle through the countryside with its rolling green hills, forests, beaches and charming old world villages full of flowers and character. We were very happy that we chose to go with Breton Bikes. Geoff and Kate run a family business and are experts at what they do. Geoff assembles many of the bikes himself. There is a tour available for every fitness level and interest. We really enjoyed meeting them and we felt very well supported throughout our week. We chose the heart of Brittany Tour on regular bicycles which was a great choice for us. The bikes were comfortable and well maintained. Our longest day of cycling was 53 km (actually 63 km for us as we got a little lost) and included some hard hills. We liked that a couple of the longer days cycling were a bit challenging for us. The tour was well planned with shorter cycling days at the beginning and end and an optional rest day in the middle. We opted to cycle even on the rest day as we were having such a great time. Accommodations ranged from pretty simple to fairly luxurious. We got well fed or had good food available nearby at every place we stayed. The low price of wine, cider and three course meals almost everywhere delighted us! The bikes were great, people were friendly, scenery was gorgeous and prices were right. What's not to love? We highly recommend Breton Bikes!!

We had a wonderful cycling trip in a scenic part of France. The e-bikes were excellent and made the tough hills manageable. The accommodations were very good and the midpoint ocean stop was well-timed. We did get lost a few times and maybe the directions could sometimes have been clearer but all’s well that ends well.

I have nothing but good things to say about Breton Bikes, the owners Kate and Geoff Husband, and the glorious countryside in the interior of southern Brittany. My wife Barbara and I live in San Francisco, CA. We have been bicycling in Europe pretty much every year since 1973. In the early days we brought our bikes over on the plane, carried our gear in panniers ( We change our people, not our clothes.), and mapped out our own routes. We rarely made hotel arrangements. We would pull into town and find a place to stay. About 20 years ago we opted to hire bikes in the area in which we would be cycling. In the past few years we have “graduated” to hiring ebikes. We have never considered working with one of the high end bike group tour operators that move your bags from place to place, have a guide who cycles with you, and a sag wagon to rescue you if you have a problem. That’s not our style. Early this spring we decided we wanted to cycle in Brittany, one of the few regions in France we did not know. We wanted to find a local tour operator who could provide us with good ebikes and panniers to carry our gear, map out a route for us, and make arrangements for us to stay in small towns. My Googling led me to Breton Bikes, exactly the sort of tour operator we were looking for. We recently returned from a delightful, early June, eight day cycle tour in the interior of southern Brittany. We cycled along canal towpaths and sleepy country roads, by golden wheat fields, dairy cows, forests, and roses bushes blooming in front of most houses. Breton Bikes arranged for us to stay in small hotels and B&Bs. We particularly enjoyed our conversations with our B&B hosts all whom spoke English. I attach a few pictures. We want to come back!

The thing about Breton Bikes cycle tours is how much you discover that there is to discover! We have done three tours over the last ten years; two on their redoubtable 'BB Specials' and one on electric bikes. These are reliable machines that carry you & your week's luggage (two large paneers and a handle bar box) comfortably and safely along your itinerary - we have never had to call on Geoff and Kate's offer of roadside assistance. Our usual choice is to go in late spring or early summer. Yes, we have been rained on sometimes but have always dried out soon after the sun is back out & all is forgiven with a glass of cider or wine in hand. If your cycling clothes are damp, the panniers have kept your evening clothes properly dry, ready to change into after a shower. Mostly though, the weather has been warm & dry. Routes are well planned, cycle friendly and diverse. I understand that Breton Bikes cycle their routes before each season to check they are up to date; they also visit their chosen accommodation to make sure expectations are realistic. Expect real contrasts in accommodation! Some are 'basic', while some are sumptuous indeed... Hosts are always glad to welcome you at the end of what they realise has been a good day's exercise. It is worth talking to Geoff & Kate before you set off and use their extensive local knowledge to help you plan how you spend each day. There is much more to do than cycling! Depending on the distance you will cover each day, you may want to buy a picnic before setting off or you may be passing a bistro at lunchtime, where you can enjoy the 'plat de jour' (in your cycling gear). If you're really lucky, you may catch a village market. So do ask and have a think about what you want to get out of your week. It's great to get back to Guarec at the end of the week with a sense of accomplishment and indulge in some well earned boasting about how fit you have become. We have never managed our stated aim to weigh less at the end of a week’s cycling in Brittany – it’s just not a fair fight with all that wonderful seafood, pastry & cheese lying in wait wherever you go!

We had an excellent 2 week cycle tour of Brittany. No problem at all with the bikes, & the gear provided. Really excellent set up. I highly recommend it for any wanting to explore Brittany by bicycle . The campsite at Gouarec is lovely and well equipped as well. Geoff & Kate were really helpful right from first booking. Should add they held our deposit through COVID, so we could book this year 😊🚴

A small, fortified city on an island at Concarneau. We arrived at low tide, and left as the tide returned. You can walk part of the ramparts but only one ruined tower. Inside, the city consists of essentially 3 streets--1 main thoroughfare & two streets along the castle walls. Most of the buildings are restaurants and clothing or souvenir shops. A lovely view of the bay can be seen on 2 sides, while the other sides show the adjoining town. Historical signs are few & in French only. We visited on a market day, so parking was a pain. We finally found spots about a mile away. Stop on the castle walls side for a less crowded lunch. A photo opp outside L'Amiral for Magritte & Dupin mystery fans. It's free to enter the close.

Well maintained tourist and historical venue. Views from the rampart are great looking backwards the central part of the village.

Arrive early to access parking. You can spend hours in the many boutique shops within the walls. It is like a Tardis with a lot more inside than you would have thought. Lots of shops, Cafes, and a Museum all within the walls. Enjoy the Celtic Bretagne folk music that is often played within the walls. Outside the town has many attractions too with lovely waterfront Restaurants and seafront walks. Fab place to visit.

We almost bumped into this place by chance. It is well hidden in the country outside Chateau Neuf Le Faou. Park and gardens are beautiful and the building in itself is a constant memento of the true substance with which the Belle Epoque was made, it being erected at the end of 19th century. Renovated castle with a beautiful garden, fun family games and a lovely picnic area. The visit is not free but very reasonably priced especially for children. Wheelchair accessible and restrooms available across the domain.

Domaine de Trevarez was a delightful surprise! The gardens were bursting with color – flowers and trees of every variety seemed to be in bloom. The renovation has been amazing, the grounds are so well-maintained. And to top it all off, there's a charming little cafe right at the entrance, perfect for grabbing a coffee and pastry before you explore.

Really nice castle ! The visit was great and super well organized. Very different from older buildings yet still quite interesting. The view is amazing and the gardens delightful to walk around.

An interesting modern, turn of the 20c built chateau. Beautiful walking on mature woodland paths and gardens.The house is undergoing a major renovation but there are areas to visit. Frequent events and exhibitions take place throughout the year when café facilities are available in the old stables. Recommended.

Great place for an easy hike in the forests. The hiking trails are easily accessible through the town of Huelgoat. I recommend to visit the following places: La Grotte de Diablo, Cap d'Artus and Grotte d'Artus. I recommend to plan for at leas half a day to enjoy this place without any stresses.

Nice forest with big granit rocks, a beautiful canal and an old town nearby

One of the most magical places I've been to. The forest is quite massive and has loads of places to visit, I went for my birthday with my SO and we both had an amazing time. Heading into the forest you will see incredible natural views and even some wildlife. The fountains you find there are nothing but magical and you truly feel something special walking around in this forest.

A very interesting place to visit and walk. Take strong shoes and you will need to climb to a degree. The trip down to the Devils Cave is worth making but involves steep steps and ducking under rocks. For the not able bodied the lake opposite is beautiful and there are many cafés and restaurants nearby.

We had a great cruise over the river Odet. The trip was from Benodet to Quimper and back. We saw a great amount of house/manors. My wife and two oldest children has also a boat trip with a fast boat towards several ilands to see the great nature between benodet and the ilands. They als saw seals and a lot of birds. Great trips.

Think twice before booking the boat tour. It's not exactly cheap and we were left stranded in Quimper because we were given the wrong time for the return bus to the port by the booking office. And the bus does not hang around if you are given the right time. We arrived 2 mins late for the correct time. We rang the office for help and we were told to just get a taxi back. With 2 small children in tow and not much French language between us we are hoping to get back in time to have a full blow out with the booking office.

TOURIST TRAP: 49 Euros per person for going to a very small island were you can walk around for about 20 to 25 minutes. Nothing there to see except 2 full bars where people are drinking beers and such. The tour was boring-- most of the Glenan Islands are little pieces of land with nothing on them. Certainly overly hyped but very disappointing in person.

We took the cruise on the l'Odet up to almost Quimper. Enthousiastic guide who explains all the sights in both French and English.

They have short cruises across the Odet that only cost a couple of Euros. They also do longer cruises to St Marie. If you don't fancy a cruise then the tourist road train picks up outside every hour. Judy be careful they on Monday's they have they market so the train doesn't go to the port until the afternoon.

I don't care what God you believe in, these massive buildings are something to behold. And to think they built them without modern technology, building methods, etc. I find them both magnificent and awe inspiring.

On a warm, calm-sea day, this place is contemplation itself. Take in the lighthouses, but also the mirror-like shoreline as well, out to the furthest in the middle of the sea. Facilities and eateries available, and check out the cute church just a little further up the coastline.

Huge lighthouse, a tough, physical climb up 370 steps but the view from the top is worth the lung busting effort (I'm a severe asthmatic but I made it) Superbe!!

307 stairs to get to the observation point on top. Unfortunately, the uppermost section was not available for visits however. The view was still great. Not a long activity though. They had discount prices for kids under 10 and for students. The gift shop right besides had good looking postcards too for tourists.

We enjoyed the boat tour and appreciated that the guide book had English wording. The trip could be enhanced by providing some basic commentary in English. On arrival at the fort we found ourselves in a big crowd listening to the tour guide speak French. We didn't want to leave as it felt rude. It would have helped if the tour guide let us know in English that the non French speakers were free to leave and to explore the fort. Overall we enjoyed the trip.

Firstly there are plenty of ample free parking near the premises. We chose this aquarium as it was know for its bird show. Now although only a few, I must admit the birds they had were stunning and well kept. The overall aquarium experience is short, but my children highly enjoyed it. I must warn though, that the bird show is not spoken in any form of English, so its impossible to know what's being said without knowing the language, for us that was only slightly disappointing but when thaught about also to be expected. that being said I could tell by it, that alot of information is given and several questions answered. It's obvious a lot of work has gone into training the birds and the show. I'd highly recommend it to any French speaking tourists.

All the animals were well presented and appeared healthy (I'm not a vet). The sea life and tanks were interesting and all the information cards were in French and English.

Great place and well worth the visit. It is not particularly a big place and you do get around it quickly but the birds they have are amazing. They all seem well looked after. The aquarium section is really interesting aswell with descriptions and explanations in both English and French. The staff were all very friendly and the bird show is brilliant. It is only in French ( which is to be expected) so we did not understand what was being said but you can clearly tell they really know their stuff and the birds get so close to you. Delighted we made the trip and would highly recommend.

The main attractions open we're the Brittany exhibition which is a series of smaller tanks and can opportunity to see the seals swimming under water. You can also view the 4 seals above ground. There is also an otter exhibition with 2-3 otters. They're cute but it's a small exhibition. There are some interactive\educational areas and an outdoor play area. We visited as a family with a 6 and 9 year old and they enjoyed it and we did spend over 3 hours there. It's also easy to get to Oceanopolis by bus from Brest. If you're driving there is plenty of parking including an area for camper vans.

Very interesting place. We came here to see the Corps des Gards building but found there was much more to see here. There is a dedicated parking area for motorhomes next to the car park and toilets. There is a path of about 500m to walk which is just about suitable for a wheelchair user.

Thats one of the best places I visited during this journey! I felt a bit like beeing in Asterix village in Gallia. So nice reconstructered old huts with all the natural massive rocks. And the handcraft shop and Bistrorestaurant. Visit is for free as parking. Inside of some huts the hustory of that village is nicly explained also a lot to discover for children.
