1276 – Foundation of Kamenets on the Lesnaya River as frontier (border) outpost. 1761 – Duke Udalryk Radziwill, being in Kamenets with the Dragon regiment, observes the transit of Venus across the Sun's disk. 1837 – Ignat Kulakovski discovers the foundation date of Kamenets in the Volyn Chronicle (Rumyantsev Museum) — 1276, and he sends the first publication on Kamenets pillar to the Governor.

Białowieża Forest, located on the border between Poland and Belarus, is a vast expanse of primary forest covering 141,885 hectares. It is one of the last remaining natural forests in Europe and is exceptional for its biodiversity conservation opportunities. The forest is home to a significant population of European bison, as well as numerous other species including reptiles, amphibians, mammals, birds, and invertebrates.
Beautiful and well preserved forest, definitly worth visiting with a guide to have all info about the trees and Flora around you. Better Luck to find animals outside of the strict protected area, in the forest, we spotted beautiful bisons and wolves !

Europe's last primeval forest hosts 800-year-old oaks with distinctive bark furrow patterns. Biologists confirm 12,000 insect species within a single square kilometer. The reintroduced European bison herd displays behavioral adaptations to tourist presence. Boardwalk trails minimize ecological disruption.

Kosava Palace

19th-century estate featuring a white neo-Gothic palace with crenelated towers & a small museum.
Probably the most beautiful castle in Belarus. Amazing place, can't wait for the reconstruction works to be done.

This way castle looks in the evening. So if you are planning a trip there, be sure you visit it in the morning or during the day, because it doesn't have any external lighting.

Nice historical site. Although it's good to keep in mind that people there mostly don't speak any other languages but Russian. Not many people know that there is also a WW2 jewish mass grave nearby the palace in the forest. For some reason local authorities don't mention it, last time I was there there was no even a small sign showing the way to the grave, unless you have already found it yourself.

Beatiful palace. The museum is not so interesting, just some pictures and text, interior is not completed yet. Also there is a birthplace of Tadeusz Kosciuszko. Beautiful monument and park. Must see in Belarus.

Ružany Palace

Sights & Landmarks
Points of Interest & Landmarks
Ružany Palace is an impressive 16th-century ruin that offers a glimpse into its glorious past. The palace, currently undergoing gradual restoration, provides a rustic and authentic experience, transporting visitors back in time. The stunning views and the play of sunlight on the castle make it a great subject for photography. While some suggest renovation and restoration, others believe that leaving it in its current state adds to its charm. The palace also houses a museum which is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Amazing place! Very rustic and so much of it is original. I feel like I am transported back to early times. I love this palace. When I was a young boy, we drove by this palace and stopped by every time to walk and see it. This year I saw it for the first time in 15 years. It’s still just as beautiful. No need for restoration, leave it as is, it’s amazing.

(Translated by Google) I have long dreamed of visiting this historical place, and now it has happened. A perfectly preserved architectural masterpiece. A very rare example of medieval architecture - a defensive temple. An Orthodox church in the Gothic style. There is a legend that in these places the Grand Duke of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania Vitovt escaped from the pursuit that was arranged by another Grand Duke of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania Jagiello, during their fight for the throne of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. In memory of this, Vitovt founded a temple here and was present at its consecration in 1407. As a result, Jagiello became the King of Poland, and Vitovt the Grand Duke of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Later, having become allies, they defeated the army of the Teutonic Order in the Battle of Grunwald in 1410. Nowadays, this is an active Orthodox church, services are held, there is a parish. The church has a miraculous icon - a copy of the icon of the Mother of God "The All-Tsaritsa".

(Translated by Google) Just a gorgeous defense church with a high degree of preservation. The thickness of the walls and the thoughtfulness of the design and location of the loopholes are striking. I also liked the interior decoration of the church. Ancient inscriptions in Greek can be found on the walls, found under many layers of paint. I also liked the relic of the church - the icon of the All-Tsarina, gifted with a huge number of offerings for its healing properties. The priest is very sincere and kind, it’s a pity we didn’t get to talk longer.

(Translated by Google) CHURCH OF ST. MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL - village of Synkovichi, Zelvensky district, Grodno region, Republic of Belarus. Modern art critics and architectural historians agree that the temple was built at the beginning of the 16th century. However, restoration work showed that the building dates back to 1320, and in 1407 it was consecrated in the presence of Prince Vytautas, who rebuilt the dilapidated castle at that time into a church-fortress. In 1880-81 The roof was replaced, a vestibule and a dome were built over the apse, and the dome over the central part of the temple was dismantled. In 1891, a rubble-brick two-tier tetrahedral bell tower was erected in front of the church, reconstructed in 2007. In 1926, the church became a branch of the novitiate of the Jesuit mission in Albertina (Slonim) and the center of the Greek Catholic parish. After the establishment of Soviet power, the church was closed. Reopened as Orthodox - in the spring of 1989. By the way, some time in the middle of the 19th century. the church belonged to Catholics, who later abandoned it.

Sparrow monument

Sights & Landmarks
Monuments & Statues
Points of Interest & Landmarks
Nestled in the heart of Baranovichi, the Sparrow monument is a delightful surprise for visitors exploring the city. Erected in 2003, this charming sculpture was born out of necessity to mask an unsightly pipe that marred the main square. While it may be small in stature, its significance and story add character to the area.
(Translated by Google) The attention of tourists is attracted by the beautiful sculptures installed in squares and on the streets. These original compositions were created to decorate the city. Each of these miniature surprises has its own story. This also applies to the monument to Sparrow in Baranovichi, which appeared in 2003. The reason for the installation of the monument was a protruding pipe that disfigured the main city square. The authorities were not at a loss and hired the famous sculptor Stanislav Tselyuk to figure out how to disguise the pipe. The artist slightly changed the shape of the pipe, making it look like a decorative pillar, and placed a bronze sparrow on its top. The sculpture, which appeared by a funny accident, served as the basis for new traditions. The sparrow quickly became the city's mascot. Students began to come to him for good luck. It is believed that if you pet the Sparrow before taking the exam, you will certainly get an easy ticket. People also come to the bird to make a wish for love or wealth. It is interesting that in the whole world there are only two monuments dedicated to sparrows. One is in Baranavichy, and the second is in Boston (USA).

Holy Trinity Roman Catholic church

Catholic church
Sights & Landmarks
The Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, located in the village of Ishkaldi, is a remarkable architectural gem that dates back to the 15th century. Constructed between 1449 and 1472, it stands as the oldest unreconstructed church in Belarus. Originally founded by Mykolaim Nemirovich as a Catholic temple, it underwent various transformations over the centuries, including a period as a Calvinist congregation before returning to its Catholic roots in 1641.
(Translated by Google) Church of the Holy Trinity, erected in the 1470s. in the village of Ishkold, is an architectural monument in the late Gothic style, which has retained its original structure to the present day. The architectural composition of the temple is an interpretation of Central European Gothic forms. The history of the temple is inextricably linked with the owner of the Ishkold estate, a representative of an ancient noble family and statesman of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania - Nikolai Ivanovich Nemirovich. In the second half of the 16th century, the owner of the town, Nikolai Radzwill Cherny, became fascinated by reformist teachings, and transferred the temple to the Calvinists. But the church did not belong to this denomination for long, since in 1641 it was returned to the Catholics in a very deplorable condition. After the suppression of the uprising of 1863, the temple was closed in 1868 was converted into an Orthodox church. During the First World War, the Shkolda church was not destroyed and was given to Catholics by the German authorities and was solemnly consecrated in 1918.

She told me a lot about these places. For example, there is a dilapidated house in which, according to legend, Napoleon forgot his hat (but this is just a legend). There are a number of empty houses that were built back in the 19th century. In general, it’s an interesting village, if you’re there, talk to the locals and you’ll learn a lot (Original) Хорошее место. In 1641 he was returned to Catholicism. After the uprising of Kastus Kalinowski in 1863-1864, it (like a number of other Catholic churches) was closed and handed over to the Orthodox. In 1921, it began to function as a church again. After 1945, it was closed and stood empty until the late 1970s, when it was returned to the Catholics. According to some reports, during the Soviet rule, local people repeatedly defended the temple, some even put themselves under trucks to stop the removal of interior decorations (one stained glass window in the temple is even dedicated to this topic). It was restored in the 1980s and has been used as a Catholic temple ever since. Quite a good fate compared to dozens of other monuments. There are not so many buildings in Belarus that have come down to us since then in such excellent condition! Mir Castle, a 16th-century fortification located in the town of Mir, Belarus, is a stunning example of Gothic-style architecture. The castle has been beautifully renovated and now houses a museum with well-curated displays on the history of the Radziwills. It was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2000. Visitors can explore its impressive interiors and enjoy picturesque grounds that include an adjoining pond.
This is a really interesting castle for anyone! I am really happy I decided to go to the castle and learn more about the history of the region. It was well worth getting the audio guide! Their is too much stuff to simply read and get through. The curators did an amazing job allowing people to go through the different towers of the castle and having people explore the castle. It was really fun to climb through the different stairs and levels. Beware for the tall people the stairs were made for smaller men!

Mir Castle, located in Belarus, is one of the most prominent cultural heritages and recognized by UNESCO. This 16th century Renaissance castle is not only famous for its unique architecture but also associated with many mysterious stories and legends.

A wonderful thing about Belarus management of such landmarks, is that they turn whole area into an open museum, with all its lakes, fields, trees and animals. The place is full of history, arts and beauty of both architecture and nature.

This castle complex was by far my favorite tourist attraction in Belarus. It has been meticulously restored and the ticket covers entry to all aspects of the complex including the museum and cathedral. The signage was good and the personnel were friendly. The nearby Radziwill castle could learn about customer service from this castle. You could spend as much time as you like here and enjoy the beautiful parks surrounding the complex. I recommend at least one night in Mir to see the castle illuminated at night, at sunrise and at sunset. If I had known you can book a room in the castle I would have done that!

Lida Castle, a restored citadel dating back to the 14th century, is steeped in legends and celebrated in literature. Once a magnificent residence of Deputy Chancellor Pawel Stefan Sapieha, it now stands in ruins. Built around 1610, the stone castle featured an entrance gate and chapel surrounded by ramparts and bastions. Despite not everything being restored yet, it remains one of the most ancient castles in Belarus.
A beautiful place. Anyone who is a fan of history would love it, but even if you're not, I think the atmosphere over there is calming . Ideal if you really want a short trip out of the city.

In wintertime this was a fairly snowy castle located approximately 45mins from Vilnius very close to the Belarusian border. The castle was €6 for adults to visit, and the best attractions were in the multi-leveled castle tower museum. In the warmer seasons, you can go to the top.
Matt B — Google review
The castle was very nice. There is also a museum in the tower and the ticket costs 6€ for adult. We even got an english guidebook. You can park outside for free.
Silvia B — Google review
It was quite a surprise! It is well visible from the road. Enormous walls, slightly falling down, very good exhibition in the main tower. It must be the best castle in Lithuania — way more authentic and exciting than Trakai or Vilnius, which look like stage sets; better than Kaunas too, purely because of its spectacular austere setting, which cannot have changed much since the times of crusaders.
E. W — Google review
Castle is renovated. You can get on top of main tower. There is also museum inside main tower which is small, but pleasant. I recommend it as a weekend trip from Vilnius (~40 min drive) with kids.

Nicely preserved castle with museum situated in the corner tower, which has 5 floors and open top for nice view. Entrance fee is 6 EUR per person, free if charge for children up to 7 years. Has a big yard inside and some former prisoners keeping mechanisms. Nearby wooden church and hills of Juozapinė and Aukštoja.

Hi everyone. Last Sunday of mnth, free entry for most museums. 6€ for adults, free for kids to 7 and etc. U can take photos for free, and some profi for extra charge. Well, a lot parking space, if it was for cash would love to see more, but for free😀, very nice. Ok, seriously, if it is summer, go, don't know nothing about winter. Go with kids, they will love it and btw u got the whole room of ex-president Brazauskas trofees.

Trakai Island Castle is a picturesque turreted castle situated on a serene island in Lake Galve, just off the coast of Trakai. Dating back to the 14th century, this Gothic castle offers visitors a glimpse into Lithuania's rich history and culture. Connected to the mainland by a charming footbridge, the castle houses the impressive Trakai History Museum, showcasing an array of artifacts including chainmail, medieval weapons, embroidery, and glassware.
A Trip Back in Time at Trakai Castle! Wow, what an incredible place! If you want to feel like you’ve stepped straight into a fairytale, you absolutely have to visit Trakai Castle. The whole experience starts with a walk across a wooden bridge over the lake, and the view of the majestic red-brick towers is just breathtaking. From the moment you arrive, you get this amazing medieval feeling. We had the best time exploring the cobblestone courtyard, climbing the wooden stairs, and peeking into the old halls. You can almost hear the echoes of knights and dukes from centuries ago! The museum inside is really well done and brings the castle's fascinating history to life. It truly feels like a journey back to the 15th century. Just a friendly heads-up, the castle is currently undergoing some important restoration work to keep it looking fantastic for years to come. While this means some areas might be sectioned off, it honestly didn't affect our visit. There is still so much to see and explore, and the atmosphere is completely magical. Don't let the ongoing work put you off! This place is 100% worth the visit for its stunning beauty and incredible historical vibe. We absolutely loved it!
Kestas G — Google review
Visiting Trakai Island Castle was like stepping into a living piece of Lithuanian history. The moment you cross the wooden bridge over Lake Galvė, the red-brick towers appear in full majesty — calm, proud, and full of stories. Inside, each hall has its own character: the Grand Duke’s chamber feels royal and atmospheric, the armory impresses with real swords and armor, and the exhibition about Vytautas the Great brings the medieval world to life. I loved how well-preserved everything is — you can almost imagine knights, musicians, and nobles walking through these halls centuries ago. Helpful Tips for Visitors: Arrive early, especially on weekends — it gets crowded quickly. Book tickets online in advance to skip the queue. Take a guided tour or audio guide — it adds so much depth to the visit. Bring cash for local shops or snacks — not all vendors accept cards. Don’t miss the inner courtyard and lake views — perfect for photos. Families with kids should visit the dungeon and towers — they’re always a hit! After the castle, try the legendary kibinai at “Senoji Kibininė” nearby — the perfect finish to your day. Trakai Castle isn’t just a tourist attraction — it’s a real time machine that lets you feel the spirit of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. A must-see for anyone who loves history, architecture, or simply beautiful places that make you pause and breathe in the past.

Stunning castle in one of the most beautiful settings in the world. We were lucky with the weather as it had been raining all day the previous day. The restauration of the castle is amazing and still ongoing. Certain areas were closed because of that and because we visited out of season. But still lots to see with a huge number of period artefacts. Gives you an idea of how important trade was. Tranquil setting with nice walks in the area. Not many visitors but I can imagine it gets very busy in Summer. Good restaurants around on the lake side leading to the castle. It's a good walk from the station, about 3km, but beautiful along the lakes. The whole experience was magnificent and the on site toilets were immaculate. Access for wheelchair users a bit tricky and you need to be fairly sure footed due to the old cobbled roads and paths. But what a place. Return rail ticket from Vilnius was about €6.

A very cool medieval castle and a museum! Despite some rain and October gloomy weather, we had a great time exploring the castle. The grey skies gave the whole location a nice vibe, and the forest and lake surrounding the castle looked stunning.

Had an lovely experience visiting Trakai. Nestled in nature, the entire environment is incredibly calming and beautiful. The colorful houses and the vibrant surroundings make it a truly picturesque destination. The peaceful ambiance, especially with water all around, adds to the tranquility. And of course, if you visit, you absolutely must try the kibinai, a delicious local treat that adds an authentic touch. Absolutely worth the trip!
Joyatee D — Google review
I visited Trakai Castle in October, and it was absolutely stunning. The autumn colors made the entire island look like something out of a fairy tale — golden leaves reflecting on the calm lake, with the red brick walls of the castle standing proudly in the middle. The weather was cool but pleasant, perfect for exploring without crowds. The walk across the wooden bridge to the castle is beautiful and gives you plenty of photo opportunities. Inside, the museum is well-organized, with interesting exhibits about Lithuanian history, the Grand Dukes, and medieval life. There’s also a sense of calm and history that you can really feel as you wander through the courtyards and towers. Even though some areas felt a bit touristy (like the souvenir stalls near the entrance), it didn’t take away from the experience. I’d recommend stopping at one of the nearby cafés to try kibinai, the local pastry — warm and delicious on a chilly autumn day. Overall: A must-visit if you’re in Lithuania. Trakai Castle in autumn is simply magical — peaceful, picturesque, and full of history.

We visited a beautiful, photogenic castle situated on an island surrounded by water. During our visit, a portion of the castle was closed for renovation, which unfortunately affected the quality of our photographs. The interior of the castle is rich in history, and the local guide was very knowledgeable in sharing its stories.

The Trakai Island Castle (Trakų salos pilis) is a stunning medieval fortress set on an island in Lake Galvė, Lithuania. Reached by wooden bridges, it feels like stepping into a fairytale. The red-brick towers, calm waters, and scenic surroundings make it one of the country’s most photogenic spots. The museum inside is informative, and boat views are magical at sunset. A must-visit day trip from Vilnius for history and nature lovers alike.

The Gate of Dawn, also known as Ausros Vartai, is a significant historical and religious site in Vilnius. Constructed in the 16th century as part of the city's defensive fortifications, it now houses a chapel with an iconic painting of the Virgin Mary. This landmark attracts Catholic pilgrims who come to pay their respects and pray before the ancient artwork believed to possess miraculous powers.
You don't need a ticket to see the Gates of Dawn. Just remember to be quiet and respectful when going inside. It's a really beautiful place of worship, and I was glad I had the chance to see it. Do budget some time in your trip to Vilnius to visit the Gates of Dawn.

St Anne’s Church is the most beautiful and famous structure in Vilnius. It was constructed during 1495-1500 at Vilnius old town. The intricate design of the church makes it an outstanding piece of architecture. The exterior of the church has remained almost unchanged, though the interior has been repaired many times. The interiors of the church feature unique paintings and decorative wood carvings that are truly beautiful. Enjoyed visiting the church very much.

Today is Easter and we went into the Church of St. Anne. According to legend, Napoleon would like to place it on the palm of his hand and transfer it to Paris. But the church in the style of "Flamboyant Gothic" still decorates our city. This small and very beautiful church is often open on church holidays. And whenever we go in, we see a haze. Maybe because of this smoke, it has a light, airy atmosphere.

One of the most beautiful and epic churches I've been. Interestingly enough it has a carving of the Godess Ishtar. Which is a pagan symbol.
Maria-Christina S — Google review
This Late Gothic Church uses 33 profiles of bricks in the faccade. The History does not say it but I wonder if 33 profiles are used to represent that Christ was 33 when he was crucified. Napolen destroyed the church in battles of 1812 and was rebuilt in 19th century with a belfry of NeoGoghic style. The Soviets used it as storage and offices. Even do, the interior was revitalized in late 1990s by the monks, and the chapel is in Benedictine monk honor. We spent over an hour exploring, including a secret room with frescos and wood works under reconstruction. Take photos of the frescos that were painted over by the Soviets as the trues colors come out on photos.

Vilnius Cathedral is a stunning Roman Catholic cathedral located on the site of an ancient pagan temple, featuring 11 side chapels. It's a prominent stop on walking tours through Vilnius' Old Town, offering visitors a glimpse of the city's main attractions like Town Hall Square, St Annes Church, and Uzupis neighborhood. The cathedral's grandeur has been likened to a mix of Greek temple and Polish civic theatre.
Located in the heart of Vilnius Old Town, the cathedral is a stunning landmark worth visiting. The Vilnius Cathedral Basilica of St. Stanislaus and St. Ladislaus (Vilniaus arkikatedra) is Lithuania's main Catholic shrine and a key national symbol. Architecture: The current structure is a stunning example of Neoclassical style, designed by Laurynas Gucevičius in the late 18th century, but it incorporates elements from earlier Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque rebuilds. Key Feature: Inside is the magnificent St. Casimir's Chapel, which holds the remains of Lithuania's patron saint. Bell Tower: The free-standing Bell Tower was once a defensive tower of the city's castle. The cathedral and its tower are prominently located in Cathedral Square.

Vilnius Cathedral, officially known as the Cathedral Basilica of St Stanislaus and St Ladislaus, is one of the most striking landmarks in Lithuania’s capital. Standing proudly at the heart of Vilnius Old Town, it’s not just a place of worship but a symbol of national pride and resilience. The first thing that catches your eye is its grand neoclassical façade — white columns, statues of saints above the entrance, and the separate bell tower that dominates Cathedral Square. The architecture feels more like a Greek temple than a traditional church, which makes it truly unique among European cathedrals. Inside, the atmosphere is calm and reverent. The high vaulted ceilings, intricate chapels, and beautifully restored artwork reflect centuries of faith and craftsmanship. One of the most fascinating parts is the crypt, which holds tombs of Lithuanian nobles and historical figures, adding a sense of mystery and depth to the visit. The surrounding courtyard and square are just as impressive. It’s a large open space where locals and tourists mingle, street musicians play, and people sit by the fountains or simply take in the view of Gediminas Hill in the background. Whether you visit by day or night, the cathedral and its surroundings capture the spirit of Vilnius — elegant, historical, and full of quiet charm.

The Museum of Occupations and Freedom Fights is housed in a former KGB headquarters and prison, showcasing the resilience of the Lithuanian people during the Nazi and Soviet occupations. The museum provides insight into the country's military history, featuring exhibits and old combat equipment. It offers visitors a chance to learn about the fierce resistance of Lithuanians throughout the 20th century, honoring those who lost their lives in this historic struggle.
This was a very heavy experience. They do not sugar-coat the atrocities. This museum has so much information and history. I HIGHLY recommend buying the regular ticket AND the audio tour. If you don’t have it, it’s too much to read. There are hundreds of things to learn about and read, so the audio is awesome. They give you the player and the headphones, so don’t worry about bringing anything. Going through the entire museum took us 3.5 hours and we could have gone longer but we hadn’t eaten yet and were very hungry. The audio tour also tells you a bit more information than just reading the English signage. I’ve been quite a few places in Vilnius and this is the one place I think EVERYONE should go. Please be respectful while you’re there and try to learn as much as you can.

From my personal interest, this is one of the most fascinating museums I've ever visited. A building which was both a "home" for the Gestapo and the KGB, it is now a museum which tells the story of the people of Lithuania during decades of occupation, repression and death. The most eerie parts are the corridors of the prison cells and the execution chamber. I truly recommend this museum for anyone visiting Vilnius
Guy A — Google review
Everyone who goes to Vilnius should go to this museum... as a reminder of the suffering of the Lithuanian people in their struggle for independence and freedom. Be prepared though... it is very sad and some of the information was shocking. But it's a must do if you're visiting Vilnius.

This place is practically living history. I assume some of the people who worked here are still living. It's a pretty sinister place. People can really think of ways to make the lives of others miserable if they don't conform to their rules. It makes me think that humanity should be doomed. All of the material is presented in Lithuanian and English.

A sobering account of Soviet oppression at a telling moment in modern times. This museum is a converted former KGB prison, with detailed explanation of the horrors of incarceration and what it feels like to be culturally and politically suppressed by an aggressive hostile country. It recounts the resistance efforts of ordinary Lithuanians in the face of insurmountable odds, and reveals their heroism even in the bleakest of times.

Somber and very sobering. A must see and visit place to understand the Baltic States' history and current situation. Very detailed history of the KGB and the oppression of the Lithuanian people. It's a listed building and kept as much as it was when Vilnius returned to an independent state. Incredible lower level prison cells and interrogation rooms of political prisoners. There is an execution room but we could only last 30 seconds in there as it was to upsetting. We were the only ones there. Afterwards we went to see the names carved in the stone bricks at the front of the building. Emotional and enlightening visit.

Former KGB prison. To day a museum with a very complete documentation and very visible exhibition of the horrible and terrifying history of Latvia before- , during and after the war. Breathtaking and goothbumps for me and I thinka lot of visitors.

Best and the most substantial museum that I've ever been to. Totally worth the (cheap) price. You can learn a lot about Lithuanian 20th century history.

Gediminas Castle

History museum
Museums
Gediminas Castle Tower, a 3-story brick tower dating back to the 15th century, offers visitors an impressive 360-degree panorama of Vilnius from the top of Gediminas Hill. Before taking in the breathtaking views, visitors can explore an exhibition inside the tower that delves into the history of Vilnius as the political center of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.
The views from the top of the tower and the castle walls are gorgeous. Definitely worth the 2 euros for the one way funicular ride. The tower itself has a small museum inside. The 8 euros for entry are more for the unobstructed city views at the top of the tower from the than the exhibits. But they are instructive and geared towards families. In summary, it's best way to either start or finish your day in Vilnius.
Eric F — Google review
Free to walk up to and around the grounds for a fantastic view but you have to pay for the tower. Be careful of the stones going up to the castle or you can take the funicular for 3EUR return. Would highly recommend to visit for the beautiful scenes!
Yeesh R — Google review
Did a walk up because the funicular was closed on a sunday. It's not too bad. Saw little children hopping up and many old couples doing it too. Beautiful views. Totally worth the climb.
Paul T — Google review
Gediminas Tower offers one of the best panoramic views of Vilnius. The climb up the hill is short but rewarding, and the tower’s small museum gives a clear overview of Lithuania’s medieval history. The restored structure is simple yet symbolic, standing proudly above the city. It can get windy and crowded, but the scenery makes it absolutely worth the visit.
Dani B — Google review
Visiting Gediminas Hill was a memorable experience, worth every step. The view from the top is breathtaking, and the tower itself is a reminder of Vilnius’ roots and legends. Helpful tips for tourists: • 🚶‍♂️ The funicular is currently out of service, so you have to climb on foot. The path is steep – wear comfortable shoes. • ⏰ Best time to go is before sunset, when the city is painted in warm colors. • 🎟️ Inside the tower, there’s a museum about the history of Vilnius castles. • 👨‍👩‍👧 The climb may be challenging for kids, but the experience is rewarding. • 📸 Don’t forget your camera – the panoramic views are among the best in Vilnius.
Oksana O — Google review
Visited on our day trip to Vilnius. There was no funicular working on the day which was limiting for some visiting. The path up is part cobble (very uneven) and wooden stairs so while the renovation is ongoing if you have mobility issues it may not be for you(September25). Good Views of the city. €8 to enter. We did not go in. The whole site is limited due to restoration work but still worth the climb
Beverley B — Google review
Gediminas Castle is a great place to visit in Vilnius. It’s on a hill, and from the top, you get an amazing view of the whole city, especially at sunset. You can walk up or take the funicular if you don’t want to climb. The tower has a small museum inside where you can learn a bit about Lithuania’s history. It’s not very big. The best part is definitely the view, it’s perfect for photos and just relaxing for a while. If you’re in Vilnius, this is one of the top spots to see!

A must in Vilnius. If you visit in the winter, I recommend taking the cabin , not the wooden (slippery) stairs. Great views Worth it

Three Crosses Monument

Mentioned on

Monument
Sights & Landmarks
The Three Crosses Monument, also known as the Hill of Three Crosses, is a historic site located on one of the highest old town hills in Vilnius. According to legend, three monks erected the crosses in the 17th century to honor fellow monks who were martyred in the 14th century. The monument has undergone several reconstructions over time and offers stunning panoramic views of Vilnius from across the river Vilnele.
Maybe even my favorite sight in Vilna. The view is really beautiful, you can see so much. It's a challenge on it's own to get here. There's quite a few stairs to get up here so might not be for the elderly.
Jonatan P — Google review
Vilnius is very beautiful. We really enjoyed short walk through the forest to see this monument. The view was amazing. We really liked it. This was one of my favourite spots there.
Barbora D — Google review
This is a fantastic spot for a hike, whether you’re going with friends or just enjoying some time alone! It’s a short, easy walk—about 300 to 400 meters—up to the top of the mountain, where you’ll find the three crosses monument. As you approach the monument, you’ll be surrounded by beautiful trees in the autumn, making it a perfect photo opportunity. At the top you can witness beautiful Vilnius city.
Viranga Y — Google review
Monument itself is not interesting but its location is very Beautiful. To reach here you have to pass through the history. And you would go really back in time. Best special thing about this place is if you go up there at sunset.
Shahan S — Google review
The Three Crosses Monument (Trijų Kryžių paminklas) is an iconic landmark situated on Plikasis Hill in Kalnų Park, overlooking Vilnius. Significance: The monument is a symbol of Lithuanian national identity and resistance. It is believed to commemorate Franciscan monks who were martyred there in the 14th century. Viewpoint: It offers one of the best panoramic views of the Vilnius Old Town.
Paul T — Google review
A bit of a climb to get to the top with over 200 steps but the view is well worth it. You have to view this beautiful peaceful place to just take in the scenery.
Yeesh R — Google review
Trijų kryžių kalnas is not only a powerful symbol of Vilnius but also one of the best spots for a panoramic view of the city. The walk up is a bit steep but manageable – around 10–15 minutes from Bernardine Gardens or the stairs near the Artillery Bastion. Wear comfortable shoes, especially if the weather is wet, as the paths can get slippery. Facilities are quite basic – there are no cafés or toilets directly on the hill, so it’s better to use the facilities in Bernardine Gardens or nearby Old Town before climbing up. The area is safe and well-maintained, and in the evenings the crosses are beautifully illuminated. It’s worth timing your visit for sunset – the colors over Vilnius are unforgettable. Practical tips: • Best access: start from Bernardine Gardens, follow the marked path. • No entry fee, open all day and night. • Bring water on hot days. • Perfect spot for photos, so don’t forget your camera or power bank. • Families with children should plan extra time – kids usually love running around the open space at the top. • Great for couples too – very romantic in the evening light. Overall, this is one of Vilnius’ most iconic and meaningful places, combining history, legends, and breathtaking views. Highly recommended!
Oksana O — Google review
Very beautiful and calm place. We went to enjoy the sunset and see the city view. It was quite worth visiting the place. It was bit cooler on the top due to wind in the month of august. You need to hike on stairs for maximum 20 mins to 30 mins depending on your pace.

Great place to hike around and have a picnic
Egle ( — Google review
This stone (more like pebble) is the most overrated destination in Baltic states, maybe in the whole World. Worst stone I have ever visited. I will not attach any pictures, because I did not even bother to make one and waste precious battery energy and storage in my phone. This is not even the largest stone in Lithuania.
Artūras F — Google review
Nice place, worth of visiting and spending couple of calm hours when in Anykščiai. Lajų takas and sculpture park are close for more activities.

Hi everyone. That's true rewies. This time Puntukas stone. Going on weekend with a god weather? Go very early. Really busy, but REALLY nice.... they r selling kebabs😂😂ok that's true but am joking. Nothing to right about, but go. For 100% it's good for kids, weather, free parking (if u gonna find it). Don't take dogs, not everywhere its allowed.
Mindaugas V — Google review
Slightly worn out papers on the history of the place, and on the top of the tower over viewing the area, the words are barely readable. Other than that 5 stars
Malik — Google review
Mother of all stones. The place is massive but it could have been more interesting if they gave more history. Where they found it, how hard to put it in place and the carving of the two Lithuanian pilots, which was done in secret as Soviet Lithuania did not recognized them as heros.
Andy H — Google review
It is the second largest boulder in Lithuania. In 1943 the sculptor Bronius Pundzius completed the bas-reliefs and words from the testaments of Steponas Darius and Stasys Girėnas, the pilots that have flown across the Atlantic Ocean.

Treetop walking path and information centre

Tree-canopy trail complex with a walkway, an information center & a 34-m. observation tower.
A really nice experience – walking among the treetops offers a unique and peaceful perspective on the forest. A fun and relaxing activity, perfect for nature lovers looking for something a bit different.
I M — Google review
I’ve visited this place a few times now, the tree top walk and viewing platform are great fun. The view from the viewing platform is great, but a word of warning the floor is constructed from metal grates so you can see though it - you’ll need a head for heights. During the summer there can be lots of mosquitoes as I found out, I’d recommend wearing trousers! Well worth a visit.
Oliver C — Google review
It's a great family activity. Walking above the trees is a very interesting experience. After the trail, there are two cafes with a fairly wide selection of food, which is also nice.
Andrey P — Google review
The Tree Top Walking Path offers a unique and refreshing experience walking among the treetops with stunning panoramic views of the surrounding forest. The path is mostly flat and accessible, making it suitable for all ages. The highlight is the observation tower with breathtaking vistas and a fun 55-meter tunnel slide for some added adventure. The adjacent Adventure Forest playground is perfect for families, with plenty of activities for kids. The staff are friendly, and the facilities, including clean toilets, are well maintained. It's a peaceful nature escape with interesting birdwatching opportunities and beautiful seasonal colors, especially in autumn. A small entry fee applies, but the experience is well worth it. Highly recommended for nature lovers and families alike!

Nice surroundings in the middle of the national park but I expected longer treetrop walking path. We were in and out in about 10-15minutes (including going to the top of the lookout tower). The information center is quite nice and the people who work there are even nicer!

Great castle which now hosts a wide set of exhibits about the life of people in this area. We enjoyed the visit, thank you! Very nice personnel! The arsenal part is more focused on war events and items.

Visited recently on a day trip from Panevezys. There’s lots of free parking nearby, and a really interesting museum inside. Some interactive areas too, such as a weighted vest showing how much the chainmail vests weigh and a projected animation of how the swedes attacked the castle. Well worth a visit!

Historic Biržų pilies rūmai offers charming insight into Lithuanian nobility with restored interiors and informative exhibits. The castle grounds are pleasant for a stroll, though some rooms feel underwhelming. And yes, worth a visit.
Artas S — Google review
Beautiful castle with a large museum exhibition. Entrance is €5 per person and you get to visit the museum which has three floors and the arsenal building located right next to the castle. The exhibition was interesting. The organisation of the exhibits could have been better. Also, there’s not so much history that would be specific to the Biržai region. The video in the arsenal building is poorly made. After spending 15 min watching the film we were left with so many questions. Overall it was a great 2 hours spent wandering around the museum and its beautiful garden.
Ieva K — Google review
A cute castle in the small town of Biržai. Interesting culture venue. In addition to the nice local library, we found the Jonas Mekas’ archives, two painting exhibition, and a small museum.

Entrance ticket cost to Castle inside where is located museum- 5eur. Around castle is nice and well maintained garden with nice view to lake. The museum is old fashioned with exposition which consist almost only on all kind of old stuff and junk. Nothing entertaning. Castle interior is plain, if you enjoy architecture or interior, inside there is not nothing impressive and worth seeing. The best view and experience is exterior and garden with amazing location.

It’s a hidden gem in Latvia. The palace is in really good condition, mostly thanks to the hard work of the restorers. You can use an audio guide and access detailed room descriptions on your phone.

The Baltic Versailles! Amidst the vast fields and meadows of Zemgale (Semgallen) stands the most beautiful baroque palace in the Baltic States: the Rundāles Pils (Rundāle Palace). The palace was commissioned by Ernst Johann Biron, the lover of Tsarina Anna Ivanova who bestowed him the Duchy of Courland and Semigallia. The famous Italian architect Bartolomeo Rastrelli designed and built a palace inspired by Versailles. Since the Duke was exiled to Siberia by his political enemies in 1740, the construction of the palace took place in two phases. During the first phase (1736-40) the palace itself was built, and during the second phase (1765-68) the furnishing of 138 rooms and halls was completed. During the Latvian War of Independence in 1919, the palace was badly damaged. In 1933, the palace was restored/rebuilt when a school was established. After the Rundāle Palace Museum was founded in 1972, a thorough and long-term restoration was immediately started, which was only completed in 2015. Thanks to this restoration, the palace once again radiates its 18th century grandeur, which visitors can admire in 40 rooms and halls. In addition to the magnificent interior, the French gardens are certainly worth a visit. So all in all, Rundāle Palace is a destination that should not be missed on your itinerary!

Really glad we decided to drive and visit Rundāle Palace. If you had a car - don't skip this easy day trip from Riga. We visited on a Wednesday and bought tickets when we got there.

The Rundale Palace in Latvia was built in the 18th century. Though originally built as a palace it was used for various purposes including a school. In 1972 the palace and the surrounding gardens was established as a museum. It has 40 rooms exhibiting furniture, decorative pieces, paintings including painted ceilings. Very impressive from outside and inside, one of the most well preserved palaces in the world. The French garden adds to the charm of the palace. Ticket can be purchased together for the palace and the garden. We visited it on a "Tour and Transfer" from Riga To Vilnius. Highly recommend it.

The Palace of amazing beauty 🤩🥰 with a large French park nearby. The beginning of the palace dates back to the 16th century, although Rundale Manor is mentioned from the 15th century. To walk the main paths in the garden, inside the palace - will be about 6.2 km, and if you explore all the passages of the garden it will be more of km. 🙃 and you should dedicate at least 3.5 hours (you can run around faster, but it is better to walk slower 🙃). The price for an adult to visit all the places is 23 €, but you can also visit the garden and palace for 17 €, but then you will not enter one of the palace "wing" with another exposition. If you have already arrived at the place and have an opportunity - it is definitely worth visiting all possible places.

Ruins of a Livonian Order castle built in stages from 1443 & a later palace above the river.
Overall an incredible experience. I really appreciate my journalism credentials were honoured. It wasn’t very crowded and despite the crappy weather day, it was still a very interesting visit. Every room has English translations on a placard or a booklet. The only exceptions are the placards on the old ruins lawn outside. The whole wearing of the shoe covers was confusing at first as there was no instructions as to when they were to be put on. Amazing views from the tower.

This really old castle is located by the former main road and river. It's a very well restored location. There is still work to do but they are very far. It's more that worth to visit it. To the top of the tower is 85 steps one way. We enjoyed it very much.

Far from where tourists go but the place has a big history that's well explained. Most signs are strictly in Latvian though, some are translated into English. Be prepared to go up and down some steep stairs.

A relatively small but beautiful castle, which was built in the middle of the 15th century by the Livonian Order in this place to strengthen its influence in Zemgale. Currently, the castle has been partially restored, other surviving parts have been preserved, and a museum is open. To get around the nearby territory and inside - it was about 3.7 km.

Must to visit place, a beautiful castle located in memorising landscape. Perfect place for Instagram photos, don't miss the largde bauska photo frame in the river side. Highly recommended place to spend time.

Another beautifully restored castle with well though out presentations offering glimpse into the life of germanborn in Baltics during the fellowship centuries.

We chose not to go inside and wanted to see the castle from the outside; we were on a tour and had 45 min at this stop. It is peaceful and quite beautiful. May 2025

St.Simeon and St.Ann Orthodox Cathedral

Beautiful downtown church with a blue and white exterior and a pink and blue heavily decorated interior. When I visited on a Friday, the church was completely open and free to look around.

Absolutely stunning church. The blue domes are beautiful from the outside, but the real magic is inside... 😍 full of rich colours, gold details, and peaceful energy.

Stunning orthodox church with a sad story. The church traces its history to 1710, when Peter the Great, Tsar of Russia, arranged the marriage of his niece Anna to Frederick William, Duke of Courland. The duke promised to build an Orthodox church in Jelgava (then known as Mitau), his capital, but his premature death prevented this. Anna wanted to get married in this church that was yet to be built.

Extremely beautiful temple - inside and outside! It's also nice that they let you take pictures inside, which I could not in others!!...

Jelgava St. Trinity Church Tower

Perfect view on Jelgava FROM above on a sunny day, a bench under glass roof, but don't expect anything special

Little museum consentrated on different aspects of history- history of St.Trinity church, History of Jelgava and more. Museum exhibits are interactive and they have thought about children aswell accessability. Tower has elevator to move up and down. You still have to open the door to get into exhibition room and use glass staircase to get to city viewing area just under the glass roof. This may be an issue for some people. On top floor you can enjoy Jelgava city views through glass roof. Interesting place to visit. Not too time consuming unless you go through absolutely everything. Then it can take hours. Lady in the ticket office while I visited was really friendly and helpful.

The crown jewel of the city. The tower has the best city views, the story of this important Latvian city, an excellent example of a romantic cafe (the best cafe ever for my very well travelled friend) with outstanding food and service, fun interactive galleries (try wedding clothes or period jewellery!), and paintings by Latvian artists.

Not much to see there! The digital expositions are just ok. The view of the city at the top is not any great as the metal structure and the glasses disturb the view. Pictures are not worth up there, as you can see in one of my pics. Just the outside view of the tower is interesting.

The Jelgava St. Trinity Church Tower is a charming historical site with a lot of character. Climbing to the top rewards you with fantastic panoramic views of Jelgava and the surrounding area. The tower is well-maintained, and the staff are friendly and helpful, sharing interesting details about the church’s history. It can be a bit crowded during peak hours, but the experience is worth it for both the views and the insight into local history. A lovely spot for visitors exploring Jelgava!

I didn't expect this place to be so interesting! There are only 4 floors of thd tower open but each floor has a room with something interesting to find out. There is a floor dedicated to the city history, the church and Jelgava fashion. The 9th floor is a cosy place made of glass where you can seat and enjoy the view of the city. The 8th floor is the restaurant. The entrance fee for adults is 2.50€. There is WC and the elevator. Do spend some time in each room: it's worth it, especially the fashion room. They show a short video about fashion changing through the years. Recommended for visiting 💯%

Beautifully renovated tower. On the top you can oversee the whole city through the glass roof. On some levels exhibitions. While on the level with clocks you will find great restaurant. During lunch hours you can try simple, but very interesting lunch offers. In the evenings you can have nice dinner. Tasty choices for vegetarians. Interior fabulous.

Nice view on the observation deck of the tower on the 9th floor. Only $1 euro per person to take elevator up. We took the stairs down to visit the gallery and had lunch on the 8th floor. Beautiful decor and relaxing atmosphere. The frog legs, snails & mussels were all yummy.
