Perfect place to enjoy amazing italian pasta and seafood. I highly recommend the Linguini agli scampi. The owner Vincezo was super kind and he accommodated us even when we came last minute before the kitchen was closing. We loved so much the place that we came the day after.

Lovely find... Family run restaurant, staff are amazing, food was delicious and very reasonably priced. We asked for the house white wine, local wine was provided and it was so nice we found out where they sell it to take some back with us. We will be back for sure!

Nice place, decent food, very kind personnel. I went with their recommendation and I ordered a seafood starter and gnocchi with seabass ragù. I didn’t regret the choices. Price ok.

Great Food, great service and generally a nice place! Definitely a recommendation if you want to try local seafood.
M S — Google review
Bruschetta was a little too salty, but really tasty. Pizza was good. The price was excellent. They even charged less when you order pizza without cheese. We (German Tourists) came way too early because google said it opens at 5 p.m. but it opens at 7 p.m. We came at around 6 p.m. But they let us in and served us. The Service was lovely even though we made the mistake of coming too early .

Santuario di San Francesco di Paola is a glorious shrine to the revered saint of Calabria located over a gorge in the hills above Paola with magnificent views over the Tyrrhenian Sea.the church itself is quite simple inside but with a stunning gothic facade and a beautiful terrace and ample parking. Adjacent to the old church is a spectacular new chapel where a lot of services are held . They also allow you to view their fabulous hand carved presepi, the nativity scenes with unbelievably carved figures in glorious colours which are displayed to the public at Christmas and Easter.

Best Gelateria and cake shop in Calabria by far. Figs and nuts and also ricotta with pear were my.favourite flavours of this year. Been using this place for more than 15 years every other year and the quality of the ice cream.is of the highest degree constantly. (Translated by Google) RATING 3 BUT... I was here only for the SPA. I'm sorry to say that it has so much potential but maintenance should be done and above all it should be checked whether the services are efficient. There is no dedicated room for changing or rather there is a bathroom which acts as a bath, shower (not working in my case) and changing room with various lockers with electronic locks (NOT WORKING!) There is no privacy and for changing it is a bit like a prestigious number worthy of Arturo Brachetti but oh well, the maintenance in the various rooms such as: the two hydromassages both without working waterfall shower and in one even a (submerged) LED spotlight detached from the wall, Turkish bath room with some shower heads that should be replaced, the two basins in front of the bathrooms not working, then shall I say some relaxing music? No, no total silence. I would recommend putting up at least a table with the rule that if you don't use the sunbeds they should be left free because for the entire stay the sunbeds are empty but with flip flops and a towel spread out on them! A positive note is that in the end you can still relax but for the price paid I don't see why they shouldn't do the necessary maintenance so as to enjoy everything you pay for!!! Another positive note is for the very polite and nice Argentinian boy with whom I had a chat. In summary Rating 3 but if it weren't for these small shortcomings it would deserve a 5 star, too bad. (Original) VOTO 3 MA... No niente silenzio totale.

(Translated by Google) Disappointing experience, below our expectations. Poor quality of food and breakfast not suitable for a 4 star. The spa kit (slippers and cap) should be included in the price given the cost of entry. I recommend changing Chef. Positive note: the friendly, helpful and professional "do-it-all" guy. (Translated by Google) The experience has been disappointing. We expected more from a 4 star hotel. We were two couples, we did the spa and dinner. The rooms were spacious, comfortable and had good views. In the spa we were alone and the facilities were typical of a spa with decoration inspired by a cave, relaxing and beautiful. However, the food is not worth a euro of your money. Terrible quality, few options, in fact we tried the two pastas that were available and they were each worse. The sauce for the noodles was gelatinous and just tasted like avecrem. Then the gnocchi was just crushed tomato with sausage. For the main course we decided on entrecôte with potatoes, it was better not to order the potatoes because even though they looked good they were fried but raw (truly one of the worst I have ever eaten) although I think they were natural, not frozen. The meat was the best thing we ate during our stay, without being very good, it was just fine. Finally, the breakfast, thank goodness, was included in the price of the room because it was not of any quality either; it was sandwiches and things bought in a low-quality supermarket. I want to think that since it wasn't high season (we were the only guests in the hotel) they didn't have the same conditions, even so it doesn't seem like a justification to me. In short, if you want to enjoy the spa and the snow, I would recommend it, but I don't think the hotel deserves 4 stars at all given what I've seen. With this review I hope that the hotel knows how to improve its service at a gastronomic level and provides the quality that its price deserves. I just hope they know how to live up to what they sell. Finally, I appreciate the attention of the waitress Ana, a charming girl who treated us magnificently.

At night, we entered the beautiful forest next door, a Mediterranean forest with the typical scents of the Mediterranean which holds the record for being among the darkest places in Europe. We observed some fireflies and walked together with many citizens in the forest next door trying in the silence to understand how much life there is around. Given the tiredness of the long day (18 hours), we were allowed to sleep there on site for free in a tent or van. Therefore, with this post I wanted to thank and greet everyone on the team from the bottom of my heart. I wish them all the best for a long and prosperous future. So, an invitation to anyone who's never been there to visit this place and the nearby town at least once in their lives. In the town, by the way, near a bar whose name I can't remember, there's a bakery that turns out delicious treats from the morning...

(Translated by Google) From culinary science, we now move to natural science, or more precisely, to the science of the stars. Not to the mystical and deceptive astrology, which we flee like yeast from a double-zero flour dough; here, as always, we seek quality, whether in the culture of the palate or in that of knowledge. I came here for an evening guided by Umberto and Angela, two modern-day Charons who, instead of leading souls across the Styx, ferry minds from ignorance to knowledge. And they do it with art: he, young and bold, with fire in his eyes and the precision of a celestial clock, distills explanations as clear as spring water. She, a wise siren, alternates ancient myths with scientific truths, and with voice and gestures enchants the audience on a journey between past, present, and what lies beyond. Two full hours vanished like stars at dawn, sustained by a language that speaks to all ages and a telescope capable of transforming the pages of books into vivid visions. And so the Moon, Saturn, and the Pole Star, which we thought already familiar, return today to shine with new wonder in our memories. Well done, truly well done. And as with Charon, the offering to be paid is light, almost symbolic. The only caveat, so as not to lose pilgrims: better signposting of the route, since the digital maps, that evening, seemed to have lost their bearings... perhaps they too were enchanted by the song of the stars.

The Ducal Castle of Corigliano Calabro, located in the heart of the historical center, is a stunning example of medieval architecture. It houses historical treasures such as prisons, the Hall of Mirrors, and baron bedrooms. The well-maintained castle offers visitors a glimpse into the past with its frescoed ceilings, period furniture, and torture rooms. From its tower, one can enjoy panoramic views up to Taranto.

The Ducal Castello di Corigliano Calabro, is one of ‘the most beautiful and best preserved castles in southern Italy.’ Built as a military fortress in 1073, it was later transformed into a luxurious place of residence. In 1979, it was purchased by the Municipality of Corigliano, which completed the restoration in 2002.

The Grotte di S. Angelo are a breathtaking natural wonder that truly captivates visitors with their stunning beauty and intricate formations. This enchanting site is a must-visit for anyone in the vicinity, offering an unforgettable experience that goes beyond what photos can capture. The caves showcase a remarkable variety of colors and expansive spaces, although only certain areas are accessible to tourists. For those seeking adventure, there’s an option for more adventurous explorations with helmets and harnesses available through the administration.

(Translated by Google) We visited the Grotte di Sant'Angelo during an evening event for €5 per person, which included a glass of wine tasting: a truly evocative experience. After being closed for many years, the site has reopened to the public and now offers a well-organized tourist trail, built on metal walkways and equipped with permanent lighting, making exploration simple and safe. A visit to the caves lasts about an hour. From the small parking lot, the entrance is reached by a walk of about 400 meters and an elevation gain of about fifty meters. It's not a long walk, but it's good to know, especially if you have children or mobility issues. Parking spaces are limited, so it's best to arrive early or inquire about a shuttle service. Visits are normally guided only and reservations are required; however, in my case, the event was unguided, which made the atmosphere even more magical. Inside, the temperature remains constant at around 16°C, with very high humidity: a light sweatshirt is recommended, even in summer. It would also be helpful to bring protective helmets, as it's easy to bump your head in some places. The limestone formations, the spacious rooms, and the interplay of light offer a spectacular view. The beauty of the place more than makes up for the effort of the climb. It's a fascinating place, combining nature, history, and atmosphere. I highly recommend booking in advance, both to secure a spot and to avoid finding it closed.

Guided tours are available only, and advance reservations are required. From the small parking lot to the cave entrance, there's a bit of a climb, which becomes quite challenging in the heat. Furthermore, you can't pay with debit or credit cards. The guide was truly friendly and knowledgeable. Wow 🌌 my first ever hitchhike itinerary in western Europe after almost 3 years in the Middle East. 5 days hitchhiking and walking plus one resting at hippie-minded Rivertribe village in Laino. So much hospitality, although I'm a guy alone each five cars, one was stopping, even police helped me out. Interesting conversations at Bellavista bar in S. Domenica Talao, Antica Dimora in Viggianello, Café 007 in Terranova. Hosted by outgiving guys in Scalea before the start, Terranova after the tough hike up and down Pollino Mary's shrine hike. Thank you Antonio and Cosimo! Lake Cotugno shouldn't be missed, you can sleep on Senise side nearby the provincial highway by walking from Agip gas station. Mezzane has some stunning landscapes, unf i missed Papasidero, San Costantino Albanese and Noepoli. Buses work from Scalea to Laino to Castrovillari (Ferrovie della Calabria company). From Terranova / S Severino downhill to Senise, i took it to cross that empty, old road on Sat at 4:45pm (week last one!) for 2,30€ covering 30km. Bus was totally empty as well.

The Museo della liquirizia "Giorgio Amarelli" is the second most visited business museum in Italy, showcasing the tools used in licorice production and marketing. It houses objects, clothing, and manuscripts from the Amarelli family's centuries-long involvement in licorice trade. Visitors praise the friendly staff and informative tours, even for those not fond of licorice. The well-stocked shop offers reasonably priced products and guided factory tours for a small fee.

Simon L — Google review
A great place to visit. Super friendly staff. We had a great tour from an English speaking staff member and despite asking her lots of questions about the details of the production etc she was a "gold mine" of information. Even if you do not like licorice the factory and museum are really interesting from a historical and technical perspective. The shop is well stocked and prices are reasonable. One suggestion: could you make signs above the boxes showing what combination is in the different coloured boxes? - probably you would then sell even more!! :=) Thanks very much for an enjoyable experience. Tours last 30+ minutes (depending on questions!) and take place (in February) at 10, 11 and 16. Check the website for more - including booking because many time slots seem to be booked in advance, probably for school or tour groups. Recommended.

Water & Amusement Parks
AcquaPark Odissea 2000 is an expansive water park featuring a variety of attractions such as slides, a water roller coaster, pools, and a lazy river. The park offers something for everyone, from thrilling rides to areas suitable for small kids. While some visitors noted that the kids' area could use improvements, they appreciated the many different pools and water slides available. The park also provides various dining options including a pizzeria and bar with reasonable prices.
Huge aquapark with many different sections. Well guarded and very crowded during the peak, especially on the weekend. The only bad thing is that there's a lot of people that pee in the pool, you can feel the smell...
Eneada S — Google review
This was our second time visiting this water park and it would be our last time. The staff are very rude. I was not allowed to go on the slide with my phone and the cover. I asked why some people were allowed to go on the slide with the goggles, the guy started to shout at me that these were the rules and he wouldn't explain the reason. Lack of education and politeness. I wouldn't recommend this place!!! I attached two pictures of the two staff.
Eliana B — Google review
Mid park. Wasn’t the best I would say. I just have one big complaint that I really hated. When I slide down any slide, my back gets hurt and red because where the slide parts connect there’s a slight edge! Also do NOT take the white steep slide. It’s one where there’s two next to each other and it has a green roof. That one was PAINFUL!!! It was like sliding on a cheese grater!!!
Adrian C — Google review
Very fun place, but your small child has to slide on her own, you can’t even help her get up the stairs. Also I wasn’t allowed to sit near the pool for some reason like in the picture 😀 The foods were awful. They heat cold food up and it tastes like it’s old. Also they allowed smoking near the childrens pool which was disgusting!

Great day with the family. Wasn’t so busy on Monday in June. Was no hot water in the shower. My only complaint 👌
Oleg A — Google review
Very nice park! There is a lot of attractions and places to eat. Price for the entrance go from 18 to 23 eur depending in which season you go. Prices for food and drinks inside are honest prices: a sandwich with Calabria sausage+soft drink 40ml was 5,50 eur. Coffee (espresso) 1 euro. It was Friday, end of July and it was good amount of people... Lines for the slides were very short (max 10 minutes) and there was the possibility to do slides also note than once. It is advised to go during the week (mon-fri) or not in August, otherwise there is the risk that the lines for the slides are too long and it is gonna be difficult to enjoy the park. There is both a good area for children and a good area for adults. The staff working in the park is young, very kind and helpful.

A relaxing place, the mud really helps the skin and hair be cleaned from the oil, it leaves the skin very soft for a few days. It closes at 7pm which in my opinion is a bit early for summer. There's a restaurant and a shop nearby.

Sulfur healing spa with healing mud and two swimming pools with natural spring thermal waters. One swimming pool for the kids, one for adults. Separate area with mud for healing purposes and a connected drying and washing area - all with natural spring water and mud. Beautiful natural cave is unfortunately closed due to danger of collapse in certain areas. Sanation works are expected in 2026 when it should be reopened. All in all it is a very small facility, but a nice one to spend a few hours with the family, have a snack and relax.

Had an amaizing day ☺️would defenetly recommend and can't wait to go back!! Grazie

Unfortunately, the place was closed. And it is obvious that a long time ago, because all the buildings were closed with shutters, and the pool was drained. Information that the pool is not open is not indicated on the website, moreover, on Google maps it was indicated that the facility is open until 18:00. We drove 120 km on mountain roads one way just for this establishment. Terrible organization, there is no reliable information about the mode of operation. The place itself is wonderful.

Despite the advertised opening hours - this place is definite not open. Maybe it only operates in the cooler months? Who can tell? Perhaps that’s the mystery of this “Grotto of the Nymphs”...

Crypt of Original Sin

Mentioned on
1 list
Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
Crypt of Original Sin is a unique cave church featuring frescoes from the 8th and 9th centuries depicting biblical scenes and angels. Accessing the site can be a bit challenging, with limited lighting and some language barriers for English speakers. Visitors have noted that the audio devices for English speakers may not be of high quality, and some paintings are missing or deteriorated. It's recommended to make reservations in advance, as access may require prior arrangements.
This is a very special experience in a Rock Church, just 25 mins from Matera. But we almost didn’t go because of some bad reviews. The crypt is in a remote location, down a country road, so it is a bumpy ride but you don’t need a 4x4. It’s not as bad as some reviewers suggest. The Crypt is an amazing place where the devotion of Benedictine Monks from the 8th Century is expressed in beautiful frescos. The Flower Painter of Matera is named as the artist due to the beautiful red flowers that connect all the different areas of the artwork. The visit lasts only 20 minutes, but that is long enough to take in the wonderful artwork and experience something truly sacred. Of note: no photos are allowed in the Crypt. There is a ticked office about 750m from the entrance where we purchased our tickets. See photos. We were unable to buy online (PayPal only), but we knew that the time slot we wanted was not booked up, so we just drove there and bought the tickets on site. If you do this, be sure to check the website for availability especially in high season. We went in mid April and there were only 4 of us in our viewing. The cost was 11 euros per person. BE ON TIME - this is a scheduled visit and all visitors are taken to the crypt together. The staff were excellent - very friendly. And we also purchased the red wine they sell at their store for 10 euros, which was fabulous.

Very special place in one of oldest cave churches of Meteora. Interesting documentation about the history of the Cave.

You need an appointment. So I didn’t actually get to see it. But this bridge above it is pretty cool but not worth the drive down the sketchy road.
Nathan D — Google review
Remember to book ahead of time on the internet and arrive 30 minutes before your timed visit. Sounds a hassle but it's well worth the bother. The frescoes are wonderful.

A little mistery accompanies this location in the middle of the beautiful countryside. 10 minute drive from Matera. they show this little cave church from IX century with a light show that helps understand the representations. The language of the show is Italian but they offer audioguides with all main languages. You need to book your visit online and when you arrive to the visit centre you will need to drive to the location for 2 minutes following the shuttle. It is worth a visit

You must be hire 👍 this place is quiet & free from tourist/ This beautiful Benedictines stone Crypt of Orginal Sin is one the most beautiful and iconic rock church in Italy / You find hire wonderful frescoes dating to the VIII century .... painted by anonimous artist - "The Flower Painter " / This place is like a time capsule from Byzantine Empire

A twofold experience: the site is undisputably stunning. The paintings are unique, and well restored. Our guide was kind and friendly, he is not to blame for a slightly underwhelmed feeling after the visit. But, the whole procedure is annoying, starting from the 'no foto' policy, to the fact that you have to wait in a room of overpriced tourist stuff for half an hour before being allowed into the crypt for 15 minutes, of course seated and with a kitschy Audioguide. By the way, selling prints on gypsum slabs as "oil painting on tufo" is borderline fraud.

The "Palombaro Lungo" is a remarkable subterranean cistern located beneath the bustling Piazza Vittorio in Matera. Dating back to the 19th century, this expansive water reserve was designed to collect drinking water for the residents of "Sasso Caveoso." With a depth of 15 meters and a capacity of approximately 5,000 cubic meters, it represents an impressive feat of hydraulic engineering.
Great short visit to learn this great engineering project that provided the population of Matera with water. Great to do in a hot day to get good reprieve from the hot weather. Entrance was 3 €. Definitely recommended

We visited on the weekend, but unfortunately the place was closed and there was no option to buy tickets. From the look of things, it seems like it may no longer be operating—lockers appeared old and dusty, though it’s possible it’s just temporarily closed (I can’t say for sure), but I see people visited it lately an it was open… I wish it was open when we visited 🥹🥹🥹 That said, you can still walk down the stairs to enjoy a stunning panoramic view of the town. The entrance door is nice and the view adding it’s magic, and the historical architecture is truly beautiful and worth seeing. 🥰 Definitely a nice spot for a quick stop and some great photos! 🤩
Radia — Google review
Walked down today now queue to entre. Opening times are on the website. Was 3€ per adult and children under 18 free. Most people are down there 12-15 minutes. Stairs down are the same way back out so not for babies or people with mobility issues. No animals allowed also. The lights are beautiful and the entrance fee also included in info sheet on its history.
Gemma B — Google review
We decided to visit Palombardo Lungo on a blistering afternoon, more in need of a break from the sun than anything else. Handing over the €3 per adult felt a bit steep for what essentially looked like a stone archway. We went in with low expectations, and to be honest, the experience didn't really justify the price from a historical or cultural perspective. The name itself, "lungo" (long), gives you the most accurate description: it's a long, shaded passageway that you walk through. There's not a whole lot to see or do inside. It's a simple, well-maintained tunnel with rough-hewn stone walls and a cool, damp atmosphere. You can hear your own footsteps echoing in the quiet. However, what it lacks in visual spectacle, it more than makes up for in pure, unadulterated relief from the heat. The moment you step out of the blinding sunlight and into that cool, dark interior, it feels like a total reset for your body. It's the most refreshing few minutes you'll spend all day. So, while I certainly wouldn't recommend it as a must-see attraction on its own merit, if you find yourself walking around under a merciless sun and your energy is starting to fade, Palombardo Lungo becomes a practical, and at that moment, invaluable refuge. The €3 isn't for the historical significance; it's for the brief, beautiful respite from the heat. It's a great example of how sometimes the best part of a visit isn't what's advertised, but the simple comfort it provides from the elements.
Shanit R — Google review
This underground building is a good example how Matera residence stored water in old days. It should be able to store lots water, but now there is only little water on the bottom, maybe only for exhibition purpose, not sure if tap water is nowdays availabel in Matera. The building is well maintained, with bridges and steps for visitors to walk around. The lights inside is colorful. It is quite big structure and worthy to spend some time here.

Nice location to visit. Not very big, but cheap and interesting.

## Palombaro Longo: A Journey to Matera's Underground Secrets Palombaro Longo is more than just a cave; it's a portal to Matera's fascinating past. Stepping down into its depths is like entering another world, a world of ancient ingenuity and unsettling beauty. **A Labyrinth of Stone:** The sheer size and scale of the cave system is breathtaking. Imagine a labyrinth of tunnels and chambers carved from sheer rock. The intricate network of walkways, built by hand centuries ago, weave a story of resilience and ingenuity. The sense of history is palpable, a reminder of how Matera's inhabitants lived and thrived beneath the city centuries ago. **A Breathtaking Dive into History:** Offering fascinating insights into the lives of the Sassi people who lived in these underground dwellings. You'll learn about their unique way of life, their ingenuity in adapting to the rugged terrain, and the challenges they faced. **A Unique Sensory Experience:** The subterranean atmosphere is both cool and hushed, adding to the sense of mystery and intrigue. The lack of natural light is a fascinating contrast to the sun-drenched city above, creating a unique experience that is both unsettling and awe-inspiring. The silence, broken only by the drip of water and the occasional whisper, is a profound and contemplative experience. ** For the Adventurous:** Palombaro Longo is not for the faint of heart. It's a physical journey down into the depths, requiring some effort (😜) and a sense of adventure. But the experience is well worth it. It's a chance to step back in time, to experience a part of Matera that's often hidden from the tourist trail, and to appreciate the city's incredible resilience and history. **A few things to note:** * **Book in advance:** The tour is popular, so booking in advance is essential. * **Limited accessibility:** The tour can be physically demanding, especially for those with mobility issues. * **Embrace the darkness:** Be prepared for a bit of darkness; it's part of the experience! Palombaro Longo is recommended for anyone visiting Matera. It's a journey that will stay with you long after you leave the underground tunnels.

Casa Grotta nei Sassi di Matera is a historical site that offers a glimpse into the past with its recreated cave dwelling featuring period furnishings, tools, and artifacts. As you explore Matera on foot, you'll come across this old house inside a cave on Vico Solitario street. The Casa Grotta provides an immersive experience as it is perfectly preserved and furnished with items from the 1950s, showcasing the living conditions of peasants during that time.
I will ignore in my rating that it was mid august and totally crowded when I was there. I am sure if you go off the big holiday season that is an even more exceptional experience. You can see that they don't only make money with it, but it is kept in excellent condition just like the whole historical center itself and has very friendly staff all around. The audio guides are well done and available in many languages but I would have appreciated more information out of them. I guess especially during high season they don't want people to spend too much time in each room so they have space for more visitors. All in all I consider it a "Must do" when you visit Matera.

We visited a traditional cave dwelling in the Sassi Caveoso area, and it was definitely worth the stop. Although we had to wait a few minutes before entering, the staff was very friendly and welcoming, which made the experience feel relaxed and unhurried. The visit offers a fascinating glimpse into how people lived in these caves until the 1950s. It’s quite remarkable—and a little humbling—to see how entire families shared these spaces not only with each other but also with their animals, including chickens and even horses. The interior has been thoughtfully restored and laid out, with everyday objects and furniture that help bring the past to life. While you may have read about this part of Matera’s history, standing inside the cave really gives it a whole new dimension. It’s something else entirely to physically be in the space and imagine what daily life was like. A short but meaningful visit that adds depth to your understanding of Matera’s unique heritage.

Very interesting reconstruction of life and objects in Sassi di Matera. It is amazing that this was not so long ago. It consists of 3 parts, of which only the living room and the natural refrigerator are worth seeing. There is a paid entrance fee of 5 euros for which you get a recorded audio guide through your phone, which is quite crazy, but it is what it is.

A Fascinating Step Back in Time - A Must-See in Matera. Visiting the Casa Grotta nei Sassi was a truly eye-opening experience. It's an amazing place to discover what a traditional peasant home looked like, and it's incredible to think that families lived this way until they were relocated in the 1950s. The recreation is very well done and gives you a powerful feel for their daily life. What makes this a fantastic value is that the same ticket also gives you access to two other nearby sites: an ancient snow cave used for storing ice and a small cave church that was later converted into a dwelling. This is an absolute must-see when you are in the area. It doesn't take long to visit, but it provides incredible context for understanding the unique history of the Sassi. Highly recommended.

Casa Noha is a historic stone house in Matera that offers a 25-minute multimedia exhibit detailing the history of the Sassi. The video experience portrays the deplorable living conditions and extreme poverty that were once prevalent in the sassi, where families lived alongside their animals in small, dark spaces. Over time, the government relocated some of the population, leading to the transformation of cave dwellings into today's hotels, shops, and restaurants.
The perfect way to learn about the fascinating history of Matera and the Sassi. It's not an easy watch at times, but it is incredibly interesting and gives you a far deeper understanding of the city you're exploring.

The house is really hard to find. We had been searching for an hour to find it. And in the burning sun it was quite an experience. But our struggle was worth it. The staff were amazing, they were nice, friendly. And they spoke English very well (from experience during my stay, we struggled because of language barrier in many places so it was a happy relief :) ). The Casa Noha isn’t a big sight because of its look. You watch 4 videos in 3 rooms and they have an authentic kitchen in the 4th room. The videos are very interesting. I found them one of the best informative videos I have ever watched. The narrative is understandable, and helpful to understand how the people of Matera have lived. I think all of us came out satisfied, and with more knowledge than before. I recommend it before visiting the whole town. It gives you another perspective than just walking around in the city of ruins.

Interesting place. Basically it is a short movie about Matera history, so you should not expect to see some exhibitions apart from the old house itself. I would rather dedicate time for some cave house with preserved furniture.

The beach is amazing and well maintained, unfortunately the Resturant service is less than avarage and more expensive than a restaurant. We paid 10 euro for 5 meatballs ( normally is part of a startet at any resturant in Taranto and priced aroun d 3-4 euros) and 10 euro for some iceberg salad with some mais..... So lesson learned, next time I LL bring my own food . Answering comments from Bahia del Sol: Unfortunately the dish was not started ... 5 meatballs it's the full portion, one is broken up to show the inside .... . I even asked to the staff If this was a real portion and the lady replied: YES 5 meatballs it's the full portion . Really a pity to see this happening in Apulia.

The stunning azure Mediterranean sea and the cerulean sky of Italy's Puglia region create an enchanting atmosphere at Lido Conca del Sole. This remarkable destination offers a fantastic experience, enticing visitors to return for extended vacations. With its breathtaking views and idyllic setting, it is truly a captivating place that leaves a lasting impression. The beauty of this location is simply mesmerizing, providing an unforgettable getaway for those seeking tranquility and relaxation.
We have travelled all over the world, but nowhere else have I found a place where you can eat a delicious plate of pasta with lobster for an affordable price and enjoy the day swimming in crystal clear water before relaxing on white sand. Thanks to the staff here who made our stay with family so relaxing and memorable. In particular we enjoyed the fantastic seafood dishes (we kept coming back several days for more) - such as the fried seafood platter, pasta with mussels and traditional aperitivo. The value for money is also very good here, particularly considering its easy to find free street parking nearby. We would often get into the habit of taking a late breakfast here because it was so nice to have a coffee overlooking the stunning view. On the rocks to the south of the lido there was a great place to snorkel with lots of fish and the water quality was great.

Jonian Dolphin Conservation is a renowned marine research team that operates in the waters around Puglia, focusing on observing and safeguarding the dolphins of the Ionian Sea. Participants can join the crew aboard the 12-meter-long Lady-Hawke catamaran to engage in marine research activities using advanced monitoring equipment. This includes photographing dolphin fins, recording their sounds, and collecting oceanic environmental data.
My sister who works as a marine biologist has been recommending me to take part in this small journey for the past two years. It was incredible to discover how many beautiful creatures we can find in their amazing habitat, and the work that the guys are doing is essential in order to study the dolphins, to preserve their territory and to guarantee them a safe future. I was born in Taranto and I rarely come back to visit, but after this experience I understood that my land has a lot more to offer than I could imagine. I hope to come back to visit soon. A massive thanks to Monica and Alessandro, I really appreciated the way you treated all guests, and I'm also thankful for having seen you keeping the sea clean from potential dangers like plastic and fishing nets.

This was an absolutely fantastic experience. Initially I was worried about spending 5 hours on a boat but the time flew so quickly that we didn't even realize it. We were lucky to see dolphins, turtles, and many other species on the surface, this is not always possible though and does not depend on the crew... The members of the association were so helpful and polite, they revealed so many details of their work and were careful to answer each of our questions. I was amazed at how respectful they are in regards to the sea life. Make sure to book your trip in advance and get ready to see unforgettable sequences of marine life!

An amazing experience. It is magnificent to see the beauty, power and elegance of those wonderful creatures. It is unbelievable how close they came to our observation deck and seeing them in their natural environment and behaviour made us simply speechless. The local guides on board are very skilled biologists and they really know what they are talking about. An appropriate English translation was offered, which makes it a wonderful half-day trip also for non-italian speakers like us. We would join this trip for sure the next time we visit Puglia. A big thanks to the entire staff.

This excursion was definitely a highlight of our trip to Italy. It was well organized and highly informative. Being able to observe these dolfins in their natural habitat was like nothing I had ever experienced. The well being of these animals is of paramount importance to the staff and crew. When we would come upon a family of dolfins they would shut off the catamaran's engine and ask us to speak quietly so as to not agitate the animals. It was an amazing opportunity and one that I would highly recommend.
Cybèle D — Google review
A day that we will always remember and changed our perspective forever. We spent the day with the association on their boat with our 3 daughters (the youngest is 4), and it was amazing. We could see more dolphins that we could dream of (stripped and buttlenose dolphins), playing and jumping in front of our boat. The association members are passionate and do everything to transmit their love for cetaces' and explain how to protect them. The dolphins were never attracted by food or tracked down. If they seem shy, we just stopped following them but the stripped ones were amazingly curious. Even though everyone else spoke English, Juli was kind enough to translate everything for us, which made the tour as educational as it was impressive. Just remember that you need to bring your lunch (drinks are provided for) and sunscreen. No need for swimming equipment since it is no allowed to swim with the dolphins.

We went on the 20/7 and saw 2 large groups of dolphins (more than 50 in total). It was an amazing and beautiful experience to see them in their natural habitat. The crew is passionate and dedicated to nature preservation and they share their passion with all passengers. A wonderful way to increase awareness on how to help dolphins at individual level. Thank you for you work!

(Translated by Google) A place to have a nice picnic with family or friends. Of course it should be improved by creating some play areas for children and teenagers because the adventure trail that exists is all neglected and abandoned. Better maintenance of the trees would also be needed, removing broken or fallen ones. However, it is the only large green lung we have in the province.

Our week-long tour with Angelo (from Experience Puglia Tours) in Puglia was magical! I had never before used a tour guide for an entire trip, and could not have been more happily surprised! Every detail was arranged for, from the apartment stay in our small town, to the daily transportation. The trip was seamless. Angelo is wonderfully warm and knowledgeable, and shared the history of the region and each town, including the production of delicious regional specialties- olive oil, breads, wine and more! Our group of six were driven comfortably from town to town, where we wandered historic streets, gazed at ancient churches and learned about the rich cultural history of the region. The leisurely lunchtime meals were a highlight, with appetizers, pastas and wines all presented with local flavor and hospitality. Meals were slow and delightful, each dish that was presented was tastier than the last. Our companions from Canada and Australia made for a lively group and we wound our way around the small towns or gathered in the evening for a final toast. Bravo Angelo and thank you for the most beautiful trip! We hope to return soon!

Angelo is the perfect host. Our 6 day exploration of Puglia was very thorough and enjoyable. Highlights for me were the wonderful restaurants we visited for lunch each day including the wine pairing Angelo suggested. The personal touches of visiting a winery, a cooking class and a demonstration of mozzarella & burrata cheese making made this tour very special.

We thoroughly enjoyed a perfect holiday with Angelo! It was well paced, casual and well structured. Angelo was informative and interesting, and knew the best places to go and the best ways to see the highlights of Puglia. And the food! We enjoyed the delicious lunches every day and many other foodie experiences as well - authentic Puglian bread, cheese, pasties, cooking lessons and wine tasting. We thoroughly recommend the five day tour!

There is simply and supremely one way to explore Puglia and that is with Angelo and 'Experience Puglia'! Our experience was fully 5 stars all the way! Angelo is a native of Puglia and so proudly shares a deep love of his birthplace. The level of generosity and passion in freely sharing his immense and compelling knowledge with us made our journey so vivd and rich. Now let's talk of the extraordinary food and vino we experienced - this was a daily food and vino safari through Puglia and Angelo certainly did not hold back in sharing with us, a small group of just 6 travellers (as opposed to tourists). The journey was fully immersive with the people and culture of the region, most particularly two lunches with local people in their homes (including a cooking class in one home) - a rich and intimate experience meeting and sharing with the people who live in Puglia! Bravo e grazie mille Angelo and 'Experience Puglia'! - Trevor and Alan, Australia

We enjoy small group slow travel tours and Angelo has perfected this concept. Over six days, we were able to tour many of the important landmarks in Puglia and sample much of the local cuisine and some of the best local wines. Angelo is an experienced tour guide, very knowledgeable in the history and customs of the area. Highlights of the trip for us were visiting a working winery and talking with the owner, making and eating orecchiette pasta at a local farmhouse, and having lunch with a couple in their home and learning about life in Puglia. Six days well spent, looking forward to coming back.

Angelo gave us an amazing tour of Puglia. He was extremely knowledgeable and the pace of our tour was perfect. Each day we ended the tour eating at an outstanding restaurant and experienced delectable regional dishes. What I especially appreciated, Angelo arranged for me to see an orthopedic doctor and get physical therapy after a flare up of tendinitis. I’m forever grateful for his caring concern and help which enabled me to enjoy the tour.

Angelo’s tour was a great way to see Puglia. The days were well planned with interesting sites and delicious food. Angelo gave us lots of information and was always willing to answer questions. We saw major sites but loved how much time we spent in less touristy places and Gioia del Colle was a perfect small city to be based. I would highly recommend!

This past October, my wife Sally and I took a trip with Experience Puglia Tours and we are very glad we did! Every morning, our guide Angelo would pick us and our fellow travellers up from our apartment stay in the town of Gioia del Colle. From there, we would explore the different corners of this must-see part of southern Italy. Each day out was extremely well organized and the pace of the tour itself was comfortable. We were not too overwhelmed with excessive sights and information overload but definitely enough to have a broad understanding of Puglia's rich diversity with respect to its history, customs, architecture, art and natural bounty. Angelo, who is passionate and knowledgeable in equal parts, gave us valuable insights into all that we experienced -castles, cathedrals, olive groves, the strategic importance of Puglia and how the region was shaped by the hand of Frederick II. And so many more things besides! As for the meals themselves, food was a daily celebration and plentiful. We ate our lunches, and enjoyed our wine, in typical osterias, masserias/farm estates and wineries, in the process meeting the proprietors who took such pride in what they were offering. Dishes included, but were not limited to, a generous procession of antipasti, orecchiette in all styles, the most wonderful bread, delicious buratta and ricotta, olive oils of quality and glasses of Primitivo and Negromaro from local producers. A few words about staying in a well-appointed apartment in Gioia del Colle. Being rooted in this small town for a week gave us an authentic experience and a chance to interact with locals at bars, shops and the like . It offered us a glimpse into the relationships within a community and the rituals of life that happen there. In short, this is a trip that we will long remember and certainly treasure. Much of this is down to the magic and varied charms of Puglia itself. It is equally due to Angelo, in his role as conscientious guide/excellent communicator with an abiding passion for, and deep knowledge of, his home region. He made all of it come alive for us.

Grotta del Trullo - Putignano

Grotta del Trullo, located just outside of Putignano in Italy, is a fascinating cave system that was discovered by chance around 80 years ago. The entrance to the cave is through a trullo and visitors can explore the different caves using a deep metallic staircase. This cave was once used as a temple to honor Athena, the goddess. Visitors can enjoy guided tours with knowledgeable guides who provide clear explanations in both English and Italian.
We found this hidden gem by chance. What we experienced during our visit to the cave was incredible. Only about 2 meters deep, the ground splits into a wonderful, amazing cave. Our guide, Davide, walked us through the cave giving us all the details with complete professionalism. I will leave some photos but, I assure you, what you will see when visiting this cave, is beyond imagination. We strongly recommend you to stop and dive into the cave and you will have the impression that you are in a story. Thank you, Davide!

Very beautiful. I would recommend it instead of the bigger Castellana Grotte, as the cave is richer in stalagmites . I can’t remember the guide’s name, but he explained everything with calm and professionalism! Would recommend everybody to visit

This was an excellent place to visit while in Putignsno! It’s a guided tour of the caves and it’s not a deep cave ( 20 meters to so) so the cave is very close to the above ground! It’s a beautiful cave system and the tour lasts 30 minutes or so and has stunning formations!
Mango R — Google review
We had a fantastic visit! The cave itself is absolutely wonderful — beautiful formations and a really unique atmosphere. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and super nice, making the tour fun and interesting even for our 7-year-old. I loved that we were allowed to take pictures (always a plus!), and the guide even gave us time to stop for photos along the way. The group was small, so it felt very personal and attentive. Highly recommended for families or anyone who enjoys exploring nature and learning something new!

Is a breathtaking experience 20m under ground, there is a wine cellar (you can't drink though), amazing rock formations, rock sales and tree roots, I recommend spending 30mins down there, or pay for a specialist and do an even deeper (40m) trip.

Nice and fun experience. Tour guide was really well informed and polite during his English tour. Worth the 7 euros for 30 minutes. Free parking.

Amazing! This is so worth a visit. Only 20 mins drive from Alberobello. Spiral staircase and some ladders made this tour more interesting. But it’s prohibitive for someone with mobility challenges. Davida, the tour guide was so knowledgeable. The cave is cool at 16 degrees so take a sweater if you’re visiting in summer. €7 entry fee for adults but honestly would have paid more. Puglia’s first public cave!
