I needed to get out of the house, so I went for a walk in the park. It was so nice to be surrounded by nature and fresh air. The park was big, so there was plenty of space to spread out. It was also really quiet and calm, which was exactly what I needed. Great way to spend day

Nice area in spring for a family walk or run. The more east you go, the less touristy

Lovely natural history museum with lots of animals - perfect for the little ones with activities. Also highly recommend Daantje Bos which is a walk with nice activities for the kids.
Mieke W — Google review
The museum is impressive and the surroundings even more so. Very serene and idyllic. Fun little path for the kids in the forest. We got the English guide for small kids for the forrest path - I recommend getting the Dutch one/the one for older kids and translate it if necessary. Ours was a little difficult to use. Only drawback of the experience was that everything in the museum is in Dutch only. But google translate helped us out.
Fie B — Google review
When I was young, I already visited the museum when on holiday and fortunately it still exists. The stuffed animals (work of taxidermist Piet Bos - the former name of the museum) are partly presented in beautiful "diorama's" (artwork by Piet's son, Kees Bos). For those who want to dig deeper al lot of information is available, including a lot of birds and a movie about the craftsmanship of taxidermy.
Guus L — Google review
I only know this place due to the ride tours I have done. There is a decent and scenic road that cut the park. Somewhere at beginning and end are places for resting and eat and drink. Very nice

Ruurlo Castle

Mentioned on
1 list
Castle
Museums
Ruurlo Castle is a restored 14th-century island castle located on a lake within picturesque gardens. The castle showcases the art of renowned artist Karel Willink across multiple floors and boasts beautifully maintained grounds with lush green fields, trees, and bushes that offer privacy. Visitors can enjoy a quaint cafe near the entrance and explore the small yet impressive art collection dedicated to realism from More museum, which was added during the 2017 restoration.
Castle was restored at 2017 and now hosts part of art collection devoted to realism from More museum. The collection is small but nice. Reserve up to 1 hour for the museum. The interiors of the castle are nicely renovated with the wood paneling and tapestry. The pattern of hardwood floors repeats the pattern on the ceiling. The parking is free, but the place is popular, so parking is full on the weekends. The restaurant in the Orangery is nice and staff is very helpful.
Andrii P — Google review
Excellent and memorable exhibition. You can see the development of the artist, Carel Willink. He goes through phases of his life like the whole world did last century. This narrative becomes all the more personal for him, clearly shown through his works.
Mark H — Google review
Very refined and beautifully restored castle standing in delightful, park-like gardens. The castle is dedicated to an art gallery with changing exhibitions, and is definitely worth a visit.
Margaretha K — Google review
Beautiful gardens! And there was an exhibition about cats 🐈🐱🐈‍⬛. I used my museum card to enter. I went there by tren and it’s accessible on foot from the train station.
Jeison D — Google review
Ruurlo Castle is a place where history meets art and nature. As you approach, you are greeted by a picturesque view: well-kept alleys, ponds with water lilies, and a historic park that’s perfect for a stroll before or after visiting the museum. The grounds are meticulously maintained – colorful flower beds, neatly trimmed lawns, and quiet spots where you can sit on a bench and soak in the atmosphere. The castle itself is impressive with its elegant towers, symmetrical facades, and large windows reflecting in the surrounding water. Inside, you’ll find a museum dedicated to the works of Carel Willink – showcasing paintings, drawings, sculptures, and even some personal belongings of the artist. The exhibition is thoughtfully arranged, blending seamlessly with the historic interiors and creating an intriguing contrast between the old and the contemporary. In addition to the main collection, the castle often hosts temporary exhibitions and cultural events. The on-site café offers coffee with a beautiful view of the park, and the gift shop sells books, postcards, and souvenirs related to art and the castle’s history. This is an ideal place for a peaceful day filled with beauty and inspiration. Even if you’re not an avid art lover, the walk around the grounds and the chance to admire the castle’s architecture will leave you with lasting memories.
Мария Б — Google review
Beautifully restored little castle with modern amenities. The new wooden, inlaid floors mirror the patterns in the ceiling. Very nice grounds for strolling around. Nice collection of Carel Willink paintings. The orangerie offers great food for a very reasonable price
Cynthia L — Google review
Awesome castle with meat with a high quality museum inside. Great time.
Arne B — Google review
A nice castle, beautiful collection of Willinks work. But you're done in about an hour or so. You can have a small cup of coffee for a large price at the orangerie. The garden is lovely and well tended, but also seen in half an hour or less when it isn't too busy. The place is nice and beautiful to visit, but I expected a bit more. Maybe I should have taken the tour..

Land Jan Klaassen

Amusement park
Water & Amusement Parks
Land Jan Klaassen, located near the town of Doetinchem, is a large adventure playground with over 60 pieces of equipment for kids to enjoy. The park features a little train that runs through it and offers a water playground during the summer. Indoors, there's a bouncy castle, mazes, air monorail paddle cars, a kids disco, miniature train, and climbing area. Additionally, visitors can watch puppet shows multiple times per day in the theater.
Great amusement park for small children, they have a indoor play area with a train and a monorail and lots more, and they have a really fun puppet show. Outside they have tons of stuff to do, also a train and a big slide. The people working here are super friendly and the park looks very clean and everything looked awesome. Prices for entry but also foods and drinks are very good. My kid had a blast, gonna revisit for sure.
Eric E — Google review
A good place for a day of activities focused on (young) kids, indoor and (more) outdoor. The puppet shows (in Dutch) are excellent, the staff very entertaining and kids oriented. Everything is well maintained.
Arjan S — Google review
Very enjoyable day my daughter didn’t want to go back home. The waterfall slide was very exciting. There are also spooky house and some spooky stuff for the ones who loves scary things.
Shiva — Google review
If you (or the children) like slides then this is ok. Not much variety in things to do. Was however very busy so guess it works for some :). And the parents have to pay - when there's absolutely nothing there to do. Of course the food and drinks were also expensive - the schnitzel was atrocious. Simply put a waste of money.
Ikenna N — Google review
Good place for kids day out with lots of attractions.
Abidemi E — Google review
Awesome place to spend a family day. Attractions and installations are well kept, people are nice and the food is delicious. The parking lot is big enough so you do not have to worry about your car.
Mic M — Google review
A heaven for kids, massive playground with a puppet theater (in Dutch). Plenty of sitting place. Most are manual play with the big slide as the highlight. The only things running on electricity are the trains (outside and inside), the music at the disco and the pump for water playground. The puppet theater is a big hits for my daughter; we went to every show (three times a day at 12:00, 14:00, 15:30; different stories) during our two-days visit. The staffs are young and very friendly; they also help create the great atmosphere and experience for the kids. This kind of park is usually for kids up to 12 years of age, but the prime ages for best experience here, I think, are 4-8 years.
Dyah J — Google review
Lovely nostalgic theme park. Lots of character, and amazingly friendly and dedicated staff. Lovely well thought out lounge areas with shade and plenty of seats and bean bags. Provides an absolutely lovely afternoon out full of fun. The price makes it all the more worth it to come and visit more often!

Villa Mondriaan

Mentioned on

Museums
Specialty Museums
Nestled in the charming town of Winterswijk, Villa Mondriaan is a delightful museum that celebrates the early life and artistic journey of the iconic painter Piet Mondrian. This villa, where he spent his formative years from 1880 to 1892, showcases an impressive collection of his youthful masterpieces alongside works by both established and contemporary artists. Visitors can explore not only Mondrian's early paintings but also enjoy engaging films and temporary exhibitions that highlight various art forms.
A superb museum about Piet Mondriaan, who spent his early years in Winterswijk, in the villa he lived in. Small, but packed with his early paintings, films, but none of the later cubist style. There is a café and shop, also temporary exhibitions. Helpful staff, and right in the centre of this busy but still quaint town.
Leonard G — Google review
A very nice and informative Museum of Piet Mondriaan. Also with interesting art of other artists. The coffee /cake in the cafe is good too. Definitely worth a visit.
Johanna — Google review
Piet Mondriaan, nowadays a worldwide renowned and admired artist 👩‍🎨 spent his youth (1880 to 1892) in his parental home on Zonnebrink 4 in Winterswijk. His father had acquired a position as the Director of the School of Christian National Instruction and lived with his family in the villa directly next to the school building. Piet’s father and uncle Frits Mondriaan taught Piet basic knowledge on drawing and painting.
Witold K — Google review
Whether you're an art lover or simply curious about Mondriaan’s journey, this museum offers a personal and intimate experience that’s well worth the visit. Highly recommended ! The exhibitions are thoughtfully curated, and the staff are welcoming and knowledgeable, adding depth to the visit with their insights. The museum café was a delightful surprise—don’t miss the Mondriaan-themed cupcakes and complimentary coffee!
Lia R — Google review
I had the honour to document Michelle Son's installation here. It is a small scale museum, that part of it is dedicated to the life of young Mondriaan that used to come to this family house and draw from nature. The program is diverse and interesting! For documentation of Art inquires you can contact me .
Ilya R — Google review
Lovely history of his teen years growing up. Not so much of his later art. But a great feel for what it's like to live in this the small town
Gerald B — Google review
cute exhibitions but quite expensive considering the size of the museum. we payed 12€ for about 30 mins we spent inside looking at the whole exhibition. the artworks were nicely presented and described well.
Stella B — Google review
Very nice little museum, focusing on the early work of Piet Mondriaan. Also work of his uncle and father and the Maris family. Doesn't take too long to visit, but still a nice experience. Especially since it's not too costly either.

State park
Nature & Parks
Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord is a former metalworks site in the Meiderich district of Duisburg, Germany that has been transformed into a public park. The landscape architect Peter Latz preserved the industrial structures such as blast furnaces and chimney stacks, integrating them into the park's design.
Public park, has a lot of magnificent things to see, î visited mostly because Im a Hunger games fan and some parts where filmed there for The ballad of songbirds and snakes. They also filmed Sunrise on the reaping there. But in general it’s a beautiful place to visit, just walk around, take pictures, enjoy. There might even be some events finding place there, when I was there there was a street food festival
Geanina 2 — Google review
I recently visited Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord and was completely amazed by how an old steel factory was transformed into such a creative and inspiring public space. The combination of industrial ruins, greenery, and open access made it feel like walking through a giant outdoor museum. Climbing up the old blast furnace was a highlight – the view over the Ruhr area is fantastic! I also loved how peaceful it was despite being such a popular spot. The lighting at night is magical and gives the whole park a completely different vibe. This is a perfect spot for photographers, families, history lovers, or just anyone who enjoys exploring unusual places. And it’s free! Highly recommended if you're in the area.
Faisal H — Google review
It's a huge public park full of factories, machines, an old railway, a theater and a windmill. It just show you the history of The industrial part of the country. It's a great place for photos and sports since You'll walk a lot and climb many stairs. You can ride a bike or walk your dogs too. There's a small cafe at the entrance and some public bathrooms.
Nora S — Google review
Landschaftspark Duisburg is an amazing place to visit. It is a former industrial site turned into a beautiful park. The old steel structures look impressive, especially when lit up at night. There are many activities like climbing, walking, and exploring the old factory buildings. The park is well-maintained and has great photo spots. It is perfect for families, friends, and photographers. I had a wonderful time and would love to visit again.
Mohammad A — Google review
One of the most extraordinary things I've visited. You can walk from the bottom right up to the top of one of the blast furnaces, stopping at various levels to see how it worked. The views from the top are incredible. There is no fixed route and we just wandered around, but if you wanted an order to it, start from behind the gas tank and head for the bunkers, where you'll "find" the walkway which takes you along them, to the bottom of the visitable blast furnace. There isn't much signage, but actually that's one of the nice things about this place.
Georgina F — Google review
Day is good for if you want to climb up to the top of the factory, night for the light and spooky vibe, the evening is great for the view, i like the iron slide they have for children and adult.
Huỳnh T — Google review
How nice that people turned industrial heritage into cultural future! Nice that one can climb up to the highest point! Good view! Also the cafe is nice to have a drink or eat something...

Lovely place to walk around. There are signs to explain the different structures left from when it was a factory. Sunset from blast furnace #5 is so pretty.

Movie Park Germany

Mentioned on
+7 other lists
Theme park
Water & Amusement Parks
Amusement park
Movie Park, located in Bottrop-Kirchhellen, Germany, is a popular amusement park with a movie theme. Divided into seven Hollywood-themed zones such as Hollywood Street Set and Nickland, the park offers a variety of family-friendly and thrilling rides, live shows, mazes, and audiovisual attractions based on famous movies and TV shows. Visitors can enjoy 4D cinema experiences like Ice Age or explore mazes inspired by The Walking Dead using real sets from the show.
We were a group of five visiting Movie Park Germany on a public holiday, and we arrived around noon. Before entering, there was a thorough security check, which I found very reassuring—it made me feel safe throughout the entire day in the park. Inside, you can find a variety of restaurants, snack stands, and sweet stalls offering treats such as crêpes, churros, gummy bears, fries, and pizza slices. There are also plenty of restrooms located conveniently around the park. Movie Park Germany is a fantastic destination for families with young children, but also for groups of friends or adults looking for excitement. The park features several roller coasters, ranging from family-friendly rides to adrenaline-filled thrill rides like Star Trek: Operation Enterprise, which even launches you backward, and Van Helsing’s Factory, a dark ride coaster with sharp turns. The safety measures on all attractions are excellent, and staff are very attentive. Since we visited during the Halloween Horror Festival, we booked two of the horror houses: The Hell House and Blood Moon: The Trailer House. Both experiences were intense, immersive, and absolutely worth the extra cost. The Halloween theming across the park was very detailed and atmospheric, with actors, decorations, and special effects adding to the experience. The only downside was that the groups in the horror houses were admitted too close together, which sometimes broke the illusion and caused a bit of crowding inside. One thing to note is the parking situation: there is no payment machine directly in the parking lot. You need to purchase your parking ticket inside the park before returning to your car. As the distance between the parking area and the park entrance is not very short, it’s definitely easier to buy the ticket in advance before heading back. Overall, Movie Park Germany is a great choice for a fun day out, whether you love thrill rides, entertaining shows, or seasonal events like Halloween.
MAnA M — Google review
Very nice themed park. My kids (8, 12 and 18years old) all had a great day with the rides and shows. Not completely five stars though. The drinks are quite expensive. The food is reasonably priced. So a tip is to bring your own drinks. Further more, all rides close half an hour before closing time and some only open at 11 even though the park is open at 10. But all in all a great day out. The park is not very big in lay-out, so it is easy to go from one place to the other. Also the waiting times are not ridiculously long as in other parks.
Dave G — Google review
We had purchased the tickets at a discounted price of 29€ and visited on Saturday. We reached early at the opening time and were lucky to not face long queues at most rides. Best thing about this amusement park is that it has rides for all age groups so no one feels left out and most of the rides are super fun. We loved it to the bits and would happily visit it again.
Sweta K — Google review
Make sure you buy your tickets online and not at the gate as you’ll save about €20. Had a great day, did lots of attractions in only a few hours. Studio tour the ride was our favourite with some great theming and effects. It’s a fun park but for someone who’s done many Disney and Universal studios parks it lacks a little in its up keep but I don’t think that’s the parks fault but likely down to the guests as some of the details in the ques look quite worn down.
Cieran B — Google review
Very nice theme park in Germany. We been there with my colleagues last spring. Its not so big place but the attractions were compact and you can go in every rides for whole day. Its not also crowded and you dont need to wait for long lines to go in every attractions Also the rides are exciting and fun.
Cheryll C — Google review
We had a family trip to the movie park. It was an amazing experience. Suitable for all ages. We were. Group of adults, a 5 years old, and a 10 years old. Everyone had an activity suitable for their age. From breathtaking rollercoasters, to family shows, to kids plays. The best thing was that we didn't need to stand hours long on the queue for each ride. Highly recommend!

This is the best adventure experience I’ve ever had in my life so far. No words to express my excitement and joy. I enjoyed it a lot. I hope to go there someday soon again.

I went on a Sunday with my boyfriend and, even though it was full, it was an wonderful experience! I recommend bringing your own snacks and drinks because everything is very expensive here. One suggestion - put the maximum heights in ALL the attractions. My boyfriend is 2,06m tall and he found, sometimes after waiting 45 minutes in line, that he couldn’t fit the attraction cars (even though they didn’t have a maximum height published at the entrance).

Tiger & Turtle Magic Mountain is a captivating art installation nestled in Duisburg, Germany, designed by the talented duo Heike Mutter and Ulrich Genth. This remarkable structure resembles a roller coaster but serves as an interactive walkway that invites visitors to explore its winding paths and steep ascents. Standing at 35 meters high on a man-made hill crafted from remnants of a former zinc manufacturing site, it offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding industrial landscape.
Lovely place for an easy hike, mild breeze and a great view. Lush green perimeter and some benches to sit and relax.
SACHIT V — Google review
What a wonderful place to get exercise, see a great view of the town (I went at sunset!), and have some FUN! This is an interactive sculpture that is a walkable "roller-coaster" (minus the rollers). I uploaded a video of doing the walk on my youtube and sped it up to give it the 'roller-coaster' feel for funsies. Make sure you wear pants under your skirt! As the walkway of the sculpture is metal-mesh and not all solid. Be careful on windy days... Other than that, it's a great place to take pictures! When you enter, you can choose to go right or left. The right side is the longer way. Either way, you have to return back to the beginning going back the way you came, so it doesn't matter which way you choose first -- you can go both ways. There are gates preventing you from accessing the "upside down" part of the loop (obviously for safety reasons). At the base of the sculpture, there are a few benches to sit on. There is also a trashbin near the benches. There's a short hike up an easy incline up a hill to reach the spot from the nearest tram stop. There are also a couple "shortcuts" that cut through the wooded area -- but maybe you need a local to show you where they are... xD When you get off the tram, just follow the paved road to the top and you won't get lost. (Be sure to keep track of the tram time schedule so that you can plan your trip accordingly!) Oh! BTW it is totally FREE! Like most best things in life are sposto be.... yey. Enjoy Germany!

A very nice experience. You can take a walking trail around in nature. On the paths between the trees. When you go up there is an interesting facility like an amusement park. You can go up the stairs but you can't go down the other side. You have to go down the side you go up. Because there is a part in the middle where you can't go. At night the lights come on and you see the sunset. A spectacular sight.

Great, different, free! A walkable roller coaster, only the looping sections were blocked because you can't walk upside down! 😂 The walk up in complete darkness at first (at night 🌃) was a bit spooky 👻 but was well rewarded. 🎢💡

Free of cost.. Beautiful scenic view Lovely long walk and cycle paths of around 1.5 km to reach point once u deboard the tram.. Loop is not accessible it is upto a certain point one can go. Best time to visit is during sunset or sunrise.. look good when lights are turned on.

It was free!!! Had a great scenic experience. Would say the best time to go is just before sunset and when there aren't a lot of people (the more people...the more vibration)
Matshepo M — Google review
Nice little place to visit. It’s a 15-20 minute walk up the path before you actually reach the metal walkway structure. It has a nice feel about the place and the views are great.
Tony R — Google review
Simple yet unique and creative sculpture. Amazing integration of history and art. The views were amazing, especially during the sunset. It's definitely a must visit place with kids. There's a slope to reach there, and if you don't like walking around, there's a direct route as well, which is a sort of trek (2 mins). It's free of cost to visit. The nearest grocery store is around 1 km away. Best place to spend some quality time with oneself or with family and friends.

Zollverein UNESCO World Heritage Site

Historical place
Sights & Landmarks
Zollverein UNESCO World Heritage Site is a significant landmark in Essen, Germany. It was once the world's largest coal mine and now stands as a preserved site with monumental buildings and a museum dating back to 1849. The area also offers diverse outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling, and water sports on Baldeneysee. Visitors can explore the industrial culture of the site through guided tours, museums, and cultural events held during the summer.
The Zollverein UNESCO World Heritage Site is truly a unique place to visit. It is calm, clean, and beautifully maintained, offering wide open spaces perfect for walking or jogging. The mix of industrial history and modern culture makes it both inspiring and relaxing. Whether you want to enjoy peaceful strolls, explore its fascinating architecture, or simply unwind in a serene atmosphere, Zollverein is a must-see destination that combines heritage with tranquility.
Jan T — Google review
Enormous industrial complex that was changed into a free tourist zone. There are some events organized here, they were even getting ready for one, when I was there, so you would assume that's a perfect example of revitalization effort. Unfortunately that's not entirely true. Yes instead of a toxic plant there is a museum and a forest, however that is also all that's here. Some of the equipment was left under the sun on its own, getting rusty and overgrown, making it look quite sad. Most of the buildings are closed down and the guided tour shows just a fraction of them. There is also no possibility to go underground inside the coal mine, to explore its history. Thinking it was the biggest one is quite a shame. Overall even though the complex makes an amazing first expression the longer you walk through it the sadder it gets. Wasted potential...
Maciej P — Google review
My visit to the Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex was an absolutely magnificent experience. It is truly awe-inspiring to see how this former industrial behemoth has been masterfully repurposed into a vibrant cultural landscape, housing museums, exhibition centers, a university, and more. The vision required to preserve such a monumental piece of history while breathing new life into it is simply remarkable. The sprawling 100-hectare site has been ingeniously transformed into a verdant park, with fantastic cycling and walking paths weaving through the imposing structures. This unique blend of industrial heritage and natural beauty means you can have a wonderful visit just enjoying the park, even if history isn't your main interest. Zollverein truly offers a full day of exploration and enjoyment for the entire family. With delightful cafes, excellent restaurants, and even a casino on the grounds, it's impossible to feel a moment of boredom. I was unfortunately pressed for time and could only spend three hours there, which was barely enough to scratch the surface. I am already planning my next trip to fully immerse myself in everything this incredible place has to offer. A Special Tip: To truly grasp the immense scale of the complex, I wholeheartedly recommend exploring it by bike or taking one of the guided cart tours. It's an experience that is absolutely worth it!

So pleasantly surprised by this place, it is insta worth it on its own but don’t miss out on the Ruhr museum, worth getting the full ticket to see the special exhibits. Humongous place to see not only the story is the mines but the area, its people and work. Could easily spend there several hours and still not see everything. Pair with Red Dot design museum in the same complex!
Eki, : — Google review
Parking is free, and information offices offer maps of this former industrial area, which is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The map shows the locations of the various exhibitions and indicates a circular route that takes about an hour and a half to walk at a slow pace. On Sundays when I was there, tourist trains run in the site and there are also guided tours. The ticket offices display the prices of the different tickets. I paid €10 for the Ruhr Museum and the Portal der Industriekultur, which has a panoramic terrace. This coal mine, began operating in 1932. Together with the processing plant, it occupied an area of about 100 hectares. It closed in 1986 and began its transformation into a cultural center in 1990.
Fabio R — Google review
A beautiful place. A huge mine listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The area around the mine is vast and green, and there's even a small playground for children. There's ample parking for cars. There's a small café on the grounds where you can enjoy a coffee or snack while waiting to enter the mine. Prices are reasonable. I recommend visiting this architectural wonder.
Łukasz G — Google review
Surprisingly wonderful repurposing of an industrial site as a cultural centre. The juxtaposition of the buildings and metalwork with reclaiming nature is striking, and we could have easily have spent hours more wandering around than we had the time for during our visit. Easy to dismiss at a glance on the internt but remarkably affecting in person. Very glad we stopped to see it.
Cj H — Google review
This made for a fascinating few hours. It's all quiet now but you can imagine the noise, heat and dust when it was operating. It has been very skilfully transformed into a coal museum and there is a large area to wander around by the coking plant.

Museum Folkwang, located in Essen, is a renowned cultural institution that boasts an extensive collection of European art from the 19th and 20th centuries. Originally founded in Hagen in 1902, the museum moved to Essen in 1921 and has since expanded its collection to include masterpieces by prominent artists such as Van Gogh, Monet, Kandinsky, and Klee.
A well maintained and beautiful public museum. Apart from the permanent exhibition, there was also "Frau in blau" temporary exhibition. The highlight is Van Gogh's paintings kept in the permanent exhibition.
Prathmesh W — Google review
Enjoyable experience of modern art (the 1860s to the 1970s) with informative notes. Includes Dali, Magritte, Van Gogh among many others. I particularly liked various installations. A leisurely stroll through the exhibits took me about two hours, but I can imagine spending more time in this museum, especially because the photo collection was closed at the time of my visit. The main collection is open for free. There is a café-restaurant on the terrace next to the museum. The museum shop has gifts and a lot, a whole library worth of art books. There is also an actual library (reading room) to sit and study art books.
Natalia P — Google review
Te permanent exhibition is free. You can find art from Andy Warhol, Monet, Van Gogh, Degas, Renoir, Mondrian, etc. And many contemporary artwork. If you want to visit the temporary expositions. You can buy your ticket in the entrance :) Also, the museum shop has interesting stuff to see or buy 🤩
Gicela C — Google review
I love this place. The William Kentridge exhibition was exceptional, but the collections hold some gems too (Matisse, Gauguin, Nam Yune Paik, Rodin, Mondriaan) and well curated. We came with our 6 year old who’s not very interrested in art and still spent 3 hours! The museum shop has a great book selection.
Minke H — Google review
Architecturally the building is amazing. The permanente collection is overall pretty good, has quite a few contemporary masters and some interesting minors particularly from the Neue Sachlichkeit and I did not pay. But really need a curatorial overhaul, thematic rooms are maybe good for kids, not for a thinking adult. In particular if the themes are so abstract and the paintings do not speak with each other. Also you can’t put Braque and Picasso right beside a festival poster. I found very interesting & cool the scoring system for paintings’ provenance during WWII, to rank how clear or murky their history was. I wish the same would be done for the “exotic” pieces they have but I guess we would see a lot of red dots. The staff were incredibly friendly and the temporary exhibition was interesting and well curated.

We had already booked the tickets (adults €9) online and it was very quick at the entrance. Beautiful light events in different shapes and sizes. A great artist! You can also get mulled wine, coffee and bratwurst if you're slightly hungry. A bratwurst in a bun for €4 is reasonable. It took us about 1 1/2 to 2 hours and it was a nice trip ;-) (Original) Eine Veranstaltung die man gesehen haben muss wenn man aus dem Ruhrgebiet kommt. (Translated by Google) Beautiful light installations. Really great for 2-3 hours to walk and switch off. I would only recommend this to a limited extent with children. At the end there are lights in a park. There is no interaction to speak of. This probably makes it quickly uninteresting for children. 1 star less because there are no signposts. If you don't know your way around the park, you'll quickly find yourself in front of an exit that's not the one you came in through. That might have to be changed.

Sights & Landmarks
Villa Hügel is a significant part of Essen's architectural heritage and represents the prosperous industrialization of the Ruhr region. Constructed in the late 19th century by Alfred Krupp, this opulent 269-room mansion sits on a vast 20-hectare estate overlooking the Ruhr. The Neoclassical design reflects elegance and modernity, boasting innovative features ahead of its time. Visitors can explore its ornate interiors and stroll through the expansive parkland.
⭐To avoid being shut out after driving over, or like us, after a long transit and much walking, check the kalendar on Villa Hügel’s own website. 🍉Click into the individual dates. The opening hours are quite irregular. ⭐Wear comfortable shoes. Much walking and much standing around to read the history on the wall made my legs leaden. In a rewarding way, sure. But very much exhausted:-) ⭐No sit-down indoor cafe on the premise. Just an outdoor food trailer. This made our visit even more physically challenging. I would’ve been okay with the trailer food and sitting outside on a bench to eat. But neither trailor food nor sitting in the chill wind was my mother-in-law’s idea of relaxation. So we stayed as long as we physically could and left for bio fuel. ⭐The place is stunning. The opulence starts only when you step in. The exterior is quite pared down. Geometry, woodwork and visual illusions make the spaces interesting. The usual symbolism of western civilizations is everywhere. ⭐Appreciation of the historic value of architectural and textual archive is not endorsement of everything the Krupp family did. Just so we are clear.

Villa Hügel is an impressive testament to German engineering. The architecture and historical significance as the Krupp family residence are fascinating. A must-visit for anyone interested in technology and history!

A stunning and peaceful place filled with history. Once home to the Krupp family, Villa Hügel impresses with its elegant architecture, grand halls, and beautiful parkland. The exhibitions are well curated and give a deep insight into Germany’s industrial past. A must-visit if you're in the Ruhr area! Amazing place
Armel G — Google review
I would give it a lower rating because there are no explanations in English in the museum, just a small leaflet at the entrance. You also have an app with AR, but only in German, but luckily, I got information beforehand on the internet and I use technology so I can get by, but as a museum, at least add explanations in English for tourists? This is a problem with many German museums. Anyway, the residence and the museum itself are magnificent. The staff is friendly, the park is beautiful. I also watched the TV series about the Krupps, so it was nice to see this in live. A truly magical place. I love history and historical sites and enjoy exploring them around Germany, but many institutions don't seem to care about tourists.
Sandra P — Google review
It was nice to visit the residence of this old timey Jeffrey Bezos, the villa and the garden are beautiful. English translations were missing in the exhibitions and most staff were rude - a number of times they shouted at me or my son in German. You can’t get anything to eat except for fries (nice but not fresh) and bratwurst that was very low quality.
Minke H — Google review
This is one of the amazing places in Essen to visit. A beautiful historical building featuring rich pieces of history. The architecture and design are quite unique and breathtaking, making it very worthwhile to spend as much time going to the many various rooms and seeing artwork, classic furniture and many more. The park around the villa is also quite amazing to walk around and take a nice relaxing stroll. There is an entrance fee to the villa but it is very affordable and I would recommend a visit to this historical house. The place is on the other side of the S-Bahn station of Essen-Hügel, and there are signs to get to the villa, so you can’t really miss this fantastic sight.

The Villa is close to the Baldeneysee and the Hügel Station.

The Neanderthal Museum, situated on the outskirts of Dusseldorf, offers an engaging journey through four million years of human evolution. Visitors can explore lifelike human sculptures and interactive audiovisual presentations that vividly depict the story of humankind from its origins to the present day. The museum is located in the Neandertal valley, where the first Neanderthal was discovered over 160 years ago.
We had really great time here with kids. The museum is good bus access from train station. In the museum we will receive a headset, you can hear very detailed information in each items. You need extra few euros to visit the tower, its few minutes walking distance from the museum building, it’s worth to visit too. Play ground for kids also a high light! We spent 5-6 hours in total there! Worth to come again :)

The museum is a hidden gem, specially for expats like me or tourists from abroad, as it has plenty of text and audio in English (unfortunately not that common in Germany). The reconstructions are incredible and are definitely the highlight! But the museum actually offers very good content, with detail in the scientific disciplines involved and including important civic takeaways. It is also quite interesting for families, since the permanent exhibition includes a lot of interactive elements and an audio guide with voice acting for immersion.

Nestled in the heart of Dortmund, the LWL Industrial Museum Zollern stands as a remarkable tribute to the region's rich industrial past. This former coal mine, with its stunning Art Nouveau entrance and striking red brick architecture reminiscent of a Gothic castle, invites visitors to delve into the evolution of mining technology and its profound impact on society. Inside, you'll find an impressive Machine Hall showcasing historic machinery from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, alongside exhibitions that illuminate the life of miners.
An old mine reserved as an industrial museum. Very informative exhibition about coalmining and the miners. Very nice art-deco architecture. Plenty of good photo motives. They start to implement holographic explenations/displays

Absolutely nice place to visit. The exhibition is absolutely nice but not spectacular. It was pretty plain ... but maybe the time of the year didn't help. The architecture and set-up of the complex is a very nice pro.

Such a beautiful place, not just a museum but also a place to visit even if you don't like artifacts. Totally worthy. There is a nice restaurant inside as well, which is also very good.
Farjad N — Google review
Nice industry museum with plenty of free parking and unique architecture set in a former hard coal mine. Most buildings are accessible and one of the towers is climbable. I took the free tour with a very enthusiastic and knowledgeable tour guide who even had the large compressor in the machine hall started.
Giselmey — Google review
Huge site dedicated to coal mining at the turn of century, 1900-1930. Fabulous Art Deco buildings, the steel & glass engine room in particular. Great collection of motors & winding gear, the climb up the tower provides a good birds eye view. Excellent museum, especially of social history & hard life of the miners. €5/person, cafe, toilets (note back of toilet doors!). The sheer size of the place & what has been achieved is awesome.
Gill C — Google review
Very few people there when we visited. Extremely well presented industrial heritage museum about coal mining. The power generation and winding gear building was a big surprise because it was Art Nouveau and so well laid out. Climbing to the top of the mine winding gear was the highlight for me. The exhibition about diversity was not relevant.

Vohwinkel

Transit station
Transportation
Vohwinkel is a district in Wuppertal, known for its central station, Wuppertal Hauptbahnhof, and the iconic Schwebebahn suspension railway. The railway is a landmark of the city and offers convenient public transportation with frequent departures. It operates primarily on weekends and holidays, with replacement bus services on weekdays. The Schwebebahn provides a unique perspective of the city as it cruises above streets and residential areas.
One of its kind hanging train. The train is in service from early 1900's. An amazing engineering feat! The Bahn Route covers scenic places. It runs above river, roads. Try to occupy the last seat as it provides the best visual treat!
Vivek P — Google review
Amazing experience and a highlight when you are in Wuppertal. Just take a ride from one end to the other. Consider checking the schedules because the Schwebebahn is often in maintenance mode.
P B — Google review
Only runs on weekends right now. But if you keep that in mind, it's a very affordable and unique tourist attraction. Great way to see a beautiful city. Buy the all-day ticket and hop on and off. Don't forget to learn about the famous elephant who rode the train

It was a really nice experience for us and the children that the rail way was above the river and streets

Mateusz K — Google review
It's a very good experience for a one time ride. The trains were nice and clean. Lines are beautifully constructed over the central canal through the city. The views of the surrounding hills are also nice. Tips: The tail end seats offer the best views. It's a bit noisy ride.
Al-amin N — Google review
I was told about this suspension railway and recommended to try it. I joined at Kluse (one stop down from the main train station, next to the cinema) and grabbed a ticket - although cheap (only 1.70) I found the machine doesn't take credit card, so come prepared with coins. The railway isn't big - only two carriages - but they are pretty frequent so if you miss one (or it's full), you don't have long to wait for the next. The carriages have been modernised: they're brightly-lit with clean seats that don't look worn in any way. Sitting at the back gives a good view down the river and along the roads during the trip, but as I tried it last evening in winter most of my trip was quite dark. I travelled south-west all the way to Vohwinkel (the terminal stop) where it's possible to see the other carriages parked, so there's quite a few cars. I then grabbed the one on the other side and travelled back the other way. Quite leisurely, a pretty smooth ride and fairly quick, given the age of the technology. Well worth the trip!

Zoos & Aquariums
Nestled in the heart of Cologne, the Cologne Zoological Garden is a historic gem that has been captivating visitors since its establishment in 1860. This long-standing zoo boasts an impressive collection of over 10,000 animals representing more than 850 species. Among its many attractions are a stunning elephant park—the largest in Northern Europe—an engaging aquarium, and a lush rainforest house that transports you to exotic locales.
What a lovely day out with great friends! Weather was cooperating and most of the animals were out and about! Some we did not see because they were hiding or somewhere else but there was still plenty others to see. We loved the dinosaurs too! Stopped by the restaurant for some lunch which was also very nice. Lots of bees/wasps flying around while we were seated eating, so maybe not a great place if you are allergic, but otherwise really nice. Bathrooms were easy to find and it was easy getting in and out. Loved how playful the others were being! Thank you from the US!!

The 165th anniversary of Cologne Zoo is celebrated with evergreen content: dinosaurs. But also with a Panini sticker album. So, if you want to give your children a treat, buy the Dino kombi ticket with the sticker album. Do so online to jump the queue on site. I highly recommend to also book the Dino VR experience in advance - it is a ten minute visual aid (in coop with local VR hero TimeRide) and adds to the animatronics dinos scattered throughout the park. Otherwise, the 14 dinos add a nice distraction to the regular inhabitants of the lovely zoo. Some are animated, others really huge. One of the oldest zoos of Germany sports some nice attractions but also undergoes some considerable refurbishments. Some areas are closed off, others are currently under construction (giraffe house). But some historic buildings (old elephant house) surely add to the flavor. We paid €98 for two adults and 2 kids. So plan to bring your healthy snacks and drinks with you, otherwise better top up your Amex ;)
Stefankai S — Google review
Although zoos are not my favorite place to travel, this zoo surprised me. Animal rights were relatively respected and different and rare animals were collected in this zoo. I saw the Iranian cheetah, an endangered animal, for the first time in this zoo. It was a completely different experience from the zoos I had seen in Asia and Europe. I had it here.
Arash R — Google review
An incredibly expansive and intricate zoo, with an insane amount of different areas and habitats to visit. Definitely reserve at least a few hours to complete a full loop of the zoo! I've never seen so many of certain animals before, namely the meerkats. Gate staff are also super friendly and speak English which makes it easy.
Perth2Go A — Google review
Have been there again after a long time, it seems most animals kept well, they have more space now and look ok. Only the see through pool of the hippopotamus had an eco problem and was very cloudy, which was why they weren't fed for the public. The ant eater looked bored and moved repetitive. I liked the space of the cheetah which looked very natural. Entrance is expansive, but if you buy tickets online you get a daily free ticket for public transport
Jasmin G — Google review
The Cologne Zoo is very small. The elephant house and fake dinosaurs take up most of the space. The zoo is a dreary, bleak, and absolutely ugly place, captivating depressed animals. It's truly awful, giving an abandoned desolated and apocalyptic area. Anyone who doesn't feel pity for them probably won't feel anything else either. Every enclosure is super tiny. A lot of animals were also not there. The tropical house was closed, as well as every snack bars except one.. on a weekend.
Nini — Google review
Amazing place...a beautifully laid out zoo with so many wonderful birds and mammals to see and learn about
Donna B — Google review
The Cologne Zoo was Fascinating and I had a remarkable time looking at and watching all the different types of animals. One exception is that they could zone the animal regions so you know what animals are where based on their location they are found. My father in law, Gary enjoyed watching the penguins and the seals jump and dive into the water, Gary said “looks fun to be one”. We both had an amazing time in the Dino VR which tells you how the dinosaurs went extinct and how they lived before. It’s fascinating and a must see, the food selection could be better but overall a great zoo experience. One of the better ones i’ve seen!!🙌

The Cologne Central Station has been refurbished and upgraded to cater to local, national, and international passenger trains. The hostel adjacent to the station offers easy access to nearby tourist destinations. The rooms are well-lit with parquet or hardwood flooring and large windows providing a great view of the neighborhood. Guests can sleep soundly on comfortable single beds with individual bed headlight for checking emails while lying down.
Cologne Central Station is one of the best and most convenient train stations I’ve used in Germany. It’s very well-connected, with frequent trains to major cities like Frankfurt, Berlin, and Amsterdam. The station is clean, organized, and easy to navigate, even for travelers who don’t speak German. Signs are clear and available in English, and the staff were helpful when I had questions. There are plenty of shops, restaurants, and even halal food options nearby. The location is also perfect—just next to the beautiful Cologne Cathedral, so you can enjoy sightseeing even during a short stop. Overall, a great experience. Safe, efficient, and comfortable. Highly recommended for both local and international travelers!

Love how this central station is extremely close to the famous Cologne Cathedral. You get out of the station and voila, the main landmark is there. I went around a little bit and it's quite dirty and smells urine and all other unpleasant ones. Otherwise, I was just happy at how convenient it was located to my main destination, which is the cathedral.

I love that you can see Koln Cathedral as soon as you step out of the train station. And that you're right in the heart of old town, an easy walk to restaurants, shops, and cultural attractions. There were a few coin operated rides in the train station to keep my little boy happy while we waited. I believe there were also local cafes but I just had Starbucks this time.

Köln Hauptbahnhof is easily one of Europe's most visually stunning railway stations, thanks to its breathtaking location right next to the magnificent Kölner Dom, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The direct proximity creates a dramatic and mesmerizing view as you exit, where the modern travel hub is dwarfed by the towering spires of the Gothic Cathedral. This central location makes it the perfect gateway, not only serving as a crucial junction for high-speed ICE and international trains to Paris, Brussels, and Amsterdam, but also providing immediate access to the River Rhine, the famous "love lock" covered Hohenzollern Bridge, and Cologne's historic Old Town.

Cologne Cathedral, a stunning example of Gothic architecture, stands as a majestic landmark in the heart of Cologne. Its grand facade is just the beginning; visitors can embark on guided tours that not only delve into its rich history but also offer breathtaking views of the Rhine River. The vibrant city surrounding this iconic cathedral is alive with culture and charm, from medieval markets to lively carnival celebrations.
Majestic…. In every angle. Firstly a great place of worship. A great prayer hall, architecture, gothic at is best. The entrances from east and west are not to be missed of its details. The north with two mighty towers offers best of it. The huge windows with itched glasses depicting various holy characters are worth watching in details. It takes one full day to enjoy this place in and out.

The Cologne Cathedral is absolutely amazing and breathtaking! Its enormous size and stunning Gothic architecture make it one of the most impressive landmarks I’ve ever visited. Even though it’s often crowded, everything feels well organized, and the atmosphere remains peaceful and respectful. It’s also right next to the Hauptbahnhof (main train station), so it’s very easy to reach — perfect for a quick stop or a longer visit. The gift shop is lovely, with nice souvenirs and books about the cathedral’s history. I especially recommend visiting on rainy days — the interior feels even more magical and calming, with the sound of rain outside and the light coming through the stained glass windows. Truly a must-see spot in Cologne!

During our Rhine River Cruise, we came here to see this great piece of Gothic architecture. We came with our guide. Since they are not allowed inside, we saw it ourselves. It took more than 600 years to complete this magnificent Church. It was declared World Heritage Site in 1996. It is most visited landmark in Germany. More than 6 million tourist visit every year. It is the third tallest Church in the world. This medieval Church is continuously renovated. It is very beautiful from inside. The stained window glasses and other piece of art and paintings are magnificent. It's open from 10 to 5 from Monday to Saturday and 1 to 4 on Sundays. Minimum one hour is required to see it properly. The trolley bags and other big bags are not allowed inside.
Balkrishna S — Google review
An absolutely breathtaking masterpiece, one of the most awe-inspiring buildings you’ll ever see. Standing before it, you can truly feel the weight of centuries, the devotion, and the artistry that went into every single stone. The towering spires seem to touch the sky, and when the sunlight hits the stained glass windows, the entire interior glows with color and quiet power. It’s not just a cathedral - it’s a symbol of human perseverance, faith, and creativity. Construction began in the 13th century and took more than 600 years to complete, yet the vision never faded. Every detail, from the delicate sculptures to the massive arches, tells a story of patience and belief that beauty is worth waiting for.
Freya N — Google review
Its foundation was laid in the 13th century and it was only completed in the 19th century; it rises in the very heart of the city as one of the most impressive examples of Gothic architecture. Both the details on the exterior and the historic, tranquil atmosphere you feel once you step inside are truly mesmerizing. Just walking around in the silence, with light filtering through the stained glass and the ceilings soaring above you, is an experience in itself. It’s a landmark that’s become synonymous with Cologne and, in my opinion, a truly magnificent place that you definitely shouldn’t miss.
Cihan E — Google review
We came for the Christmas markets but were wowed by this cathedral. Absolutely stunning. It is free, which is amazing!!! We walked right in. We did pay €20 for the whole family to go up the south tower. We did not buy these ahead. It was a little tight up the stairs. 535 of them. We saw the bells and they rang when we were by them, which was cool.
Nancy P — Google review
One of the most breathtaking places I’ve ever seen. Cologne Cathedral isn’t just a building — it dominates the city. The closer you stand, the more unreal it feels: every detail, every shadow, every tower looks carved with impossible precision. Inside, the atmosphere drops into silence instantly. It’s calm, powerful, almost overwhelming in the best way. If you’re in Cologne, this is the one place you absolutely can’t skip. Truly unforgettable.

Nestled in the heart of Cologne, Museum Ludwig is a treasure trove for art enthusiasts and casual visitors alike. Once the private collection of Peter Ludwig, this museum showcases an impressive array of modern art that spans various movements including Pop Art, Abstract Expressionism, and Surrealism. As you explore its vibrant halls, you'll encounter everything from striking paintings to intricate ceramics and thought-provoking sketches.
A fantastic museum for modern and contemporary art lovers. Museum Ludwig has an impressive collection; from Picasso and Warhol to Lichtenstein and contemporary German artists. The layout is spacious and well organized, making it easy to explore at your own pace. Some temporary exhibitions are truly thought-provoking and beautifully curated. The view of Cologne Cathedral from the upper floors is a bonus also. It’s definitely worth spending a couple of hours here. If you enjoy art, don’t skip it while in Cologne.

What a lovely museum; both its architecture and its collections, they are all breathtaking… Museum Ludwig is highly regarded as one of Europe's most significant art museums, particularly for its collection of modern and contemporary art… It has diverse collection, which includes extensive holdings of Pop Art, Picasso, and works from the Russian avant-garde… The museum's architecture and spacious galleries are excellently contributing to a positive experience… Its main key aspects are as below: Extensive Collection: It boasts a vast collection spanning various artistic movements from the 20th and 21st centuries, with notable strengths in Pop Art, Picasso, and Russian avant-garde works… Renowned Artists: You can expect to see works by iconic artists such as Picasso, Warhol, Lichtenstein, Richter, Mondrian, Dali, Kandinsky, Nolde, Kokoschka, Man Ray, Pollack, Miro and many more… Well-Curated Exhibitions: The museum is well-organized and thoughtfully presents exhibitions, offering a mix of established masterpieces and cutting-edge contemporary works… Architectural Design: The building's architecture, including its spacious galleries and natural lighting, is enhancing the overall viewing experience… Location: Situated near the Cologne Cathedral, railway station and the bridge the museum's location is very very convenient… Overall: Museum Ludwig is a high-quality art institution that offers a rewarding experience… Having said all these, need to mention that some visitors suggest that the museum could improve the information provided alongside the artworks, particularly for those less familiar with modern art…

Its collection focused on modern and contemporary art is already very strong, but for me it has a special place especially because of its Picasso works. Being able to see original Picasso paintings from different periods so closely, and examine them down to the brushstrokes, is a truly impressive experience. They don’t just remain as paintings hanging on the wall – you find yourself wanting to stand in front of them for a long time and think. Alongside that, the pop art and other modern works make the museum even richer. Even if you only have a slight interest in art, it’s a place you should definitely make time for and one that shouldn’t be missed on a visit to Cologne.

I think this is one of the most important museums in Cologne and one of the main art museums in Germany. You can easily spend 2-3 hours there: it ranges from a very important modern art section with John Cage and "Five Friends" to important expressionist painters, local and international impressionists, and even some Picassos. Everything is stunning, four floors of pure art. There may be lines.

For just a small fee, you can ascend to this sky-high platform either by lift or via stairs for those seeking a bit of exercise. The experience is particularly magical at dusk when the city lights begin to twinkle below.
Great way to enjoy a 360° view of the city of Cologne. The entrance ticket costs 5€, you then take an elevator for 29 floors and arrive on the roof of the skyscraper. Unfortunately there are protection glasses so it's not easy to take good pictures. I think that the panorama give its best at night.

The ticket is just 5 euros and you go up 28 floors pretty fast. It’s just 10-15 mins walk, across the bridge. And totally worth it. Could be windy there so carry a jacket.

Fantastic 360° view of Cologne. Very cheaply priced and is open all throughout the day. Highly recommend coming here if walking up the 500+ steps to the top of Cologne Cathedral's South Tower just isn't for you.

Highly recommended! Open until 10 PM in the summer (Friday and Saturday). If you go from 9 PM until closing, you'll see it both in the morning/sunset and in the evening. This is also plenty of time, since there's no bar or other seating.

If you’re in Cologne and wanna catch the best city views, KölnTriangle is the spot for that. This place gives you a 360-degree panoramic view of the city, and trust me, it looks absolutely stunning, especially at night. The Cologne Cathedral shines like a gem, and the Rhein River just adds to the magic. It’s a chill place to just soak in the skyline and snap some killer photos. Go in the evening when the city lights up it’s a whole vibe ..! (: Ticket cost 5€

View point which gives the classic panorama of cologne including the cathedral, the rhine river and the hohenzollernbrücke bridge. Is it worth going up for 8 euro? Probably not but what else are you going to do in cologne?

This is a great alternative option to see the city from high or having to climb the steps of the cathedral bell tower. There was no queue when we arrived, 5euros for a ticket, get on the lift to the 28th floor and your free to roam around the top. Great views and really sheltered from the weather with super high glass barriers. It's a great place to get away from the noise of the city. They do not allow suitcases but were fine with rucksacks. Great value and 100% must visit.

Water & Amusement Parks
Phantasialand is a popular theme park offering a variety of experiences for visitors of all ages. Thrill-seekers can enjoy rides like Taron and Black Mamba, while cultural enthusiasts can explore themed areas inspired by China, Mexico, and Africa. The park also features live shows such as the Celebration of Nations with impressive acrobatic performances.
Unforgettable Family Day at Phantasialand! We had an amazing time at Phantasialand on our family day! Everything was incredibly well organized from start to finish. The staff were all super friendly, helpful, and made us feel welcome everywhere we went. The food and drinks were not only delicious, but also very reasonably priced — a pleasant surprise for a theme park! We really appreciated the variety and quality without having to spend a fortune. Another big plus: the facilities were spotless. The restrooms were clean throughout the day, which made the experience even more comfortable for our whole family. All in all, Phantasialand offered a fantastic day out with top-notch organization, great value, and lots of fun for all ages. We’ll definitely be back!

This park is absolutely stunning! I have been to a lot of them but this one is a true piece of art! Wherever you look it is fabulous! The rides are super fun and the food is very good. I want to come back as soon as i can.

It's a nice enough place. It's clean, in terms of no visible grime on things, but the air is filthy with cigarette smoke. The rides are long, with queues to match. I found myself exiting rides, feeling nauseous already, only to walk into a wall of toxic smoke making me feel disgusting. The only place you can go to escape it is the queue of another ride, so that's what we did. The food is on the expensive side, but there are cheaper options and we took our own snacks to supplement. Recommend doing this if cost is a concern. A number of rides were closed on our visit but the ones we did go on were good, well managed, no technical difficulties. We didn't check our small bags and they were fine to be stored while we went on most rides. Agree that the shuttle bus feels like a scam. €5 for a return trip when you have to wait 30 min for it feels excessive. I tried it, I didn't vomit, I probably wouldn't return.

Great experience, amazing times. We did spend whole day over there. Waiting time for ride was reasonable. Place was clean, staff friendly and travel from Cologne was good. I would be back for sure.

I love visiting theme park and I was intrigued by Phantasialand for a while but I was hesitant because this park has mostly thrill rides and I'm really not into it. However my Husband's is a huge fan of thrill rides so stopped for a day. I was positively surprised by the beauty of the park. The decor are really amazing and well made. I loved the vintage Germany area and the fantasy land. But everything was really gorgeous! It's immersive, well maintained and magical. My favorite ride was Maus au Chocolat which was fun and the decor were really nice. Also Geisterishka even though it's quite outdated now, I liked it. The carousel and the monorail were also pleasant. But as someone who is not into thrill rides I can sometimes be a bit bored. Thankfully the park is nice to walk around, have a sit to relax or watch a show. It was enough for a day however and I couldn't have stayed more unfortunately. I hope that in the future, more dark rides will come as it's something that's really missing here. Other than that, for the quality and the price I can't complain. This is one of the best park in Europe and I wonder why it's not more known. The park is beautiful, they care for details and they maintained it very well compare to other (more popular) parks in Europe. I will definitely come back again if I visit the area.

People are smoking all over the place. This part was a huge dissapointment. The Uhrwerk restaurant employees didnt speak English which should be a basic requirement for anyone working there. We ended up in the China parking where the spaces between the two rows were very very narrow. The whole parking should be re-planned. Overall, it is a nice park, nothing stands out in terms of extreme. It is a nice family park with family friendly attractions. The app is rubbish and the developers seems to be stupid for missing basic things like different languages…!? The price is too high for what you get. Better to go to Toverland or Efteling for cheaper, better, more organised and overall better value for your money.

Phantasialand is by far the best theme park I’ve ever visited! 🎢 The park offers world-class rides like Taron (my personal #1 coaster) and F.L.Y., both surrounded by incredible theming that completely immerses you in each area. Every detail feels thought out and alive. And don’t skip the food — it’s genuinely fantastic and way above average for a theme park!

One of the best parks I've ever been to! We've visited multiple times over the years and the quality has remained fantastic year after year. The food is great and not over priced, the park is clean and well maintained and the staff are friendly. Entrance fees can vary, but if you time it right, you can get great deals.

Cozy place with nice walks in between the houses. It take longer than you think - we didn’t have enough time. Very informative and friendly staff. Truly enjoyed our time there…

Not bad. Staff very nice. Some interesting things displayed and explained well including videos etc. Still having problems walking but refused the offer of a free (!!!) electric wheelchair. Where else do you find that?

A great place where you can celebrate your kid's birthday. Good prices and nice stuff with few activities made our daughter and her friends very happy.

Authentic atmosphere which gives you the impression to walk through a village in ancient times. There are activities for children like playgrounds or solving questions inside one of the buildings

Good open air museum, albeit still in progress, with old buildings of the Bergische Land. Restaurant and other possibilities to eat and drink.
