Castle Cannenburch

Museum
Sights & Landmarks
Kasteel Cannenburch is a charming castle with well-restored interiors and a rich history. It's only open around Christmas time, allowing visitors to enjoy the festive decorations throughout the whole castle. The interiors and paintings present the history of the people who lived there, and live pictures with masters of each room offer an immersive experience. The park surrounding the castle is also worth visiting, offering beautiful gardens and picturesque ponds where you might spot fishermen trying their luck.
Lovely pocket 500 year old castle with moat. Nicely furnished inside, very interesting history. Friendly helpful staff. Great cafe with lovely food. Plenty of car parking. Good gardens, including the vegetable garden
Marie C — Google review
We visited this castle on Monday, but unfortunately, both the interior and the nearby restaurant were closed. However, the surrounding area was open for walking, and it was absolutely beautiful. I would love to come back one day to explore the inside!
Shirin S — Google review
A charming little castle and moat with some nicely restored rooms. Not the most impressive you'll ever see but should keep you busy for an hour or so. You get the feeling that they could do more with the remaining rooms but I presume they operate on a tight budget. The stone stairways can be a bit tricky to navigate and there are quite some uneven floorboards and loose rugs/carpets to watch out for.
Wrath G — Google review
Very quiet and beautiful castle. Tastefully decorated for Christmas. Not so many visitors during weekday.
Olga S — Google review
Very interesting castle, properly restored as museum. Just a little glitch, the audio tours in English don't have all the contents available in Dutch language.
Giulio B — Google review
We visited here on a wim and just before Christmas. Tickets are available online or onsite. Lunch can be consumed in the restaurant situated in the old coach house. There were Christmas decorations throughout the whole castle. This castle is impossible to heat so they close down during the winter only opening around Christmas time so that people can enjoy the decorations. There is so much to see. Most of the castle is open to the visitors. The gardens are very beautiful and also worth visiting. These are free to enter.
Anja G — Google review
Wau.... :D The surroundings of Cannenburch Castle absolutely thrilled us! The beautiful parks, romantic trails and peaceful atmosphere created the perfect backdrop for a relaxing day out with friends. The surrounding countryside has been carefully landscaped, but at the same time retains its natural charm. A great place to walk and relax - definitely recommended!
Mirek H — Google review
The self-guided tour is not organized in a logical manner. We struggled to follow the ‘path’ in numerical order.. finally just wandered and listened as we stumbled upon ▶️ signs.. I’m sure we missed half of them. Beautiful, but could use some instructions.

The Veluwsche Steam Train Company is widely regarded as the top-notch steam depot museum that caters to both children and families. It is a place where everyone's passion for trains shines through, evident in their warm hospitality, informative explanations, and enjoyable rides. Visitors can delve into a plethora of captivating exhibits up close if they hold reverence for the presented material.
Best steam depot museum in the eyes of me and my kids My family really enjoys going here often All people have heart for what they do, and that shows in hospitality, explaining how all works and having fun at the great rides they provide!!! If you respect the material presented, a LOT is possible to see and investigate from up close If you like (steam)trains, this is the place to go / visit 🤩😃
Ad M — Google review
Really nice day out, massive and growing collection of steam trains, many working. All of the volunteers were very nice, knowledgable and helpful, even though we could only speak English. Would definitely visit again.
Aaron M — Google review
Excellent for train fans and people interested in technology. The crew is very passionate about what they do and very happy to answer your questions. Great experience and can recommend also for kids.
Georg K — Google review
Brilliant day out to see these beautifully restored steam engines in Holland. The journey was excellent and not crowded with plenty of opportunities to photograph the engines. Also a great opportunity to see the turntable in operation.
Dave F — Google review
Abusolutely lovely day trip and step back in time! Feels like a mini holiday outside Netherlands. The only tip is if you come with a baby, the child carriage won’t fit in these old steam trains. And dress up warm in autumn/winter because there is no heater inside the train.
Haishan X — Google review
Historically important, yearly event and often openings year round. Impressive collection of steam trains. People take the time to explain the origin of the machines, the state of maintenance and their functions. Allowed to come inside some of the hot and living. Note: steam and diesel (depot has many of them)
J.C. D — Google review
Fantastic working steam train to visit, 2 hour round trip with drinks and snacks available on board. You can also walk around the yard with many other locomotives in various states. On return to the yard the locomotive did a full rotation on the turntable before shunting some trucks around and returning to the engine shed allowing views of the whole locomotive.
Richard F — Google review
Great experience, you can also visit the cabin of the steam engine. The views are quite good also.

Nationaal Park Veluwezoom

Mentioned on
1 list
National park
Outdoor Activities
Nationaal Park Veluwezoom is a forested parkland that offers activities such as horseback riding, hiking, and wildlife spotting. The park features steep inclines and descents, making it a challenging yet rewarding destination for cyclists. Visitors can encounter freely roaming horses and Highland cattle during their explorations. The park's picturesque scenery includes blooming heather flowers along the purple/magenta route, with a cozy café conveniently located halfway for a refreshing break.
One hike is guided by the purple sign. It starts at the tourist information (parking and food service) and meanders up and down through the heath to Posbank (parking and food service) and back in a loop. Another hike is perfectly guided by the red sign. It starts at Posbank and leads you mainly through forest and fern to a very nice place to rest, eat, and drink (De Carolinahoeve). The hike takes you back in a loop, and there are also great views of the heath landscape. All the trails are perfectly marked by posts along the way. There is a post that shows the direction before you even start to think where to go. Unfortunately, dogs are allowed and even with leash they come too close.
Frank P — Google review
The heather fields were beautiful, even though by the end of August they were starting to fade. For the best vibrant purple views, I’d recommend visiting in mid-August. The cycling paths through the area make it a great way to enjoy the scenery. We rented bikes online once we arrive there (highly recommended during peak season). Our route was 53 → 66 → 69 → 25 → back to 53. The regular bikes were smooth, while the tandem bike was fun but a bit challenging at times since the gear setup wasn’t very efficient. Still, it was a great experience overall.
Bavantha U — Google review
Beautiful Nature. Perfect for walking. Multiple trails inside. Beautiful in August with the purple blooms. Some parts may get very slippery and muddy when wet.
Rick R — Google review
Great place to enjoy nature. They have a lot of different walking routes. You can easily spend the whole day or just a couple of hours. You'll see a variety of animals, cows, deers and squirrels. Very lovely place to go if you want to get out of the city!
Elizabeth D — Google review
My visit to Nationaal Park Veluwezoom yesterday was fantastic. The weather was perfect, which made the stunning purple flowers even more vibrant and beautiful. The scenery is truly breathtaking and a great escape into nature. The only challenge we encountered was the hiking trails themselves. The markings aren't always very clear, so you might find yourself needing to find your own path at times. However, this also adds a sense of adventure to the experience! Overall, it's a wonderful park for anyone who wants to enjoy some natural beauty and doesn't mind a little bit of off-the-beaten-path exploration.
Yecheng S — Google review
One of the most beautiful places in the Netherlands. Great National Park. Beautiful to hike, bike or to walk. Hilly slopes, forests and heathlands. Parking downside in the village of Rheden.
Bernhard H — Google review
Nice park, very beautifull nature, stunning colors, parking near by is very nice and is free, park has many good routes and have lot of benches with good views that i would reccomend spending hours sitting there.
Matthew — Google review
A highly recommended place! If you are in the vicinity, don't miss it. Or if you can, plan and visit this national park. You can spend an afternoon, or even a full day here. I have visited this place in all four seasons, and it is always beautiful. You can choose different routes and walk 5, 10, or 15 kilometres. It is also a great place for biking, with plenty of climbing opportunities, which is unusual for the Netherlands. This is one of the places in the Netherlands that is unique in its landscape. Sometimes, it can be quite crowded, but not to the point where you will be annoyed. There is a parking spot at the beginning of your route, as well as a small museum (mainly for kids) and a restaurant where you can eat. There are several restaurants in the surrounding area. Additionally, there are several playgrounds for kids of all ages.

Kasteel en park Rosendael is a grand estate dating back to 1616, featuring opulent furnishings including furniture, silver, and porcelain. The castle is situated in the Nationaal Park Veluwezoom, an expansive area of forests and heathlands with numerous cycling paths and woodland trails. Visitors can explore the surrounding natural reserves such as National Park de Hoge Veluwe and Ooijpolder.
I would like to congratulate the management for understanding the true meaning of hospitality. Mr. Anton gave us a tour in English - he was absolutely delightful, patient with all of our curious questions, and we had a wonderful time. The castle grounds are also gorgeous. We highly recommend this visit, and would especially like to thank Ms. Corinne, Ms. Danielle and Mr. Anton for their generous and kind hospitality. Ms. Danielle went above and beyond to make our visit a very memorable experience despite a rude beginning with Mr. Baartjan. We highly recommend this visit - takes you away from the hustle and bustle into the country side to a 14th century castle. Make sure to get your tickets in advance, and grab lunch at the Bistrobar Beaune up on the hill!

Nice castle close by Arnhem with a big garden with nice small waterfalls and water fountains. Quite a few restaurants in the surrounding area .
Alvaro L — Google review
It is a late medieval castle with the ponds, shell galleries, floor fountains, small waterfalls and statues in the garden. Both inside the castle and the garden are worth seeing. Great place for nature and history lovers. There are enough parking places near the castle.
Sibel Y — Google review
A charming little castle and park.
Yas A — Google review
If you, like me, are looking for castles or palaces with free entrance, this is the right place😁 to enjoy the whole mansion, you should buy a ticket. I didnt 😜 There's also a market on sundays here. The nearest train station is Velp (2.8km away)
Shila B — Google review
Lovely gardens and interesting tour around the castle by enthusiastic guide. Pity we got our back windscreen smashed in the car park.
Lesley O — Google review
An incredibly beautiful place, very close to the center of Arnhem. This castle is more than seven centuries old. It is the former residence of the Counts and Dukes of Gelre. The Rosendael Castle dates from the late Middle Ages and was built by the Count of Gelre. The characteristic donjon (residential tower) was originally about 25 meters high and has a diameter of 16 meters. This makes it the largest tower of its kind in the Netherlands. Only this keep remains of the original castle. From 1722 a square house was built on the tower, which strongly resembles an Amsterdam canal house. The Rosendael Castle collection offers a fantastic picture of how people used to live in the castles in the Netherlands . Don't miss the special collection of furniture, silver and porcelain. The surrounding landscape park is beautiful and offers many surprises. I highly recommend whether you're a nature lover or want to learn more about how the nobility lives. In addition to visiting the castle, visiting its beautiful garden gives peace of mind. The day when we visited the garden was rainy, as you will see below, we had a chance to take a picture with rainbow. maybe you can catch a similar one.
Emrah O — Google review
We went to big national park nearby to this place. On the way back we say amazing place we were like let's stop here. It wasn't a super shinny day but still it is looking like a fairtale. A part of the garden there was a wedding ceremony which felt so nice. Unfortunately we went there quite late and we couldn't go inside of the castle or the full garden part. I have took the picture which I am sharing only from outside of the castle. Castle and the garden for adults is 12 euro but there is option to visit only the garden which is 6 euro. I would go back again and see those beautiful castle and most importantly the garden. Both garden and castle close around 17 and Monday is closed. They have also nice coffee var in the garden.

Kasteel Huis Bergh is a 13th-century fortified castle located in s Heerenbergh, owned by the affluent van Bergh family who held significant positions in both the church and state. This moated castle boasts tastefully landscaped gardens and an impressive collection of medieval art, including early Italian paintings and rare handwritten manuscripts. Stumbled upon this by chance, really glad we did,it’s a lovely slice of history and one man’s vision and collection of medieval art and artefacts. Included in the price is a guided tour of the tower which is certainly worth the climb up the narrow stairs.
Andrew H — Google review
Actually it is closed because of renovation but we'll come back as soon as they open again in 2026. Nice location, good restaurant with nicely presented dishes next to the castle.
Franz H — Google review
Wow!!! I didn't expect to see here such a great collection of the middle ages art. The castle itself very beautiful, so don't forget to take camera. They also have a special audio guide with tasks (from 8 y.o.) for children. There is a cafe in the castle's yard.
Tetiana B — Google review
Very nice town and castle to visit. One of the oldest in The Netherlands. Very interesting history, especially for people interested in old coins, as it used to be owned by the family that also ran the local Mint, which is across the street. Also the place where a witch was condemned to death in the Middle Ages, which was a rare event in The Netherlands. From here it is a short drive to where the Rhine River enters The Netherlands. Worth a visit. Oh, and did I mention they brew their own beers there? Worth a try!
Rutger V — Google review
Nice old castle with an exhibition of medieval art. You can get a (free) tour of the tower with some very nice views and a visit to the weapons room. Beautiful garden as well.
Erik V — Google review
Fantastic castle. Working time was untill 16:30 so we have not managed to get inside but still being outside was impresive. There us a cafe with good offer of food and beer

What a stunning place to visit. The castle is located near the Dutch/German border in a beautiful surrounding. The castle harbours a fantastic collection, gathered by the Van Heek family. If you love ancient buildings, history, paintings and antique, you should place the castle on your to visit list.

Zoo Kleve is a delightful, compact zoo that offers a perfect outing for families looking to connect with nature and animals. Nestled in the charming town of Kleve, this family-friendly destination features an array of animals ranging from playful goats and deer to more exotic creatures like red pandas and seals. The well-maintained paths and enclosures make it easy to explore, even on rainy days.
Great place to spend some quality time. They offer a quite good variety of animals, the place is clean and well structured. They offer coffee, ice cream and small dishes. You can rent a wheelchair if you're joined by elderly family members or friends, some animals can be fed by hand and for kids there is even a playground with an awesome and secure climbing tower, so everybody at any age can have a good time there.
Stefan K — Google review
Nice zoo, a bit small but the price is good. The animals are very nearby, you can take good pictures. Free parking with charging station. The food stores were a bit limited. You can buy tickets beforehand or at the spot (the lady speaks Dutch). They also sell a box with food that you can give to the animals.
Said B — Google review
Not to big, but nice little hidden zoo, easily to miss and drive by. Spacious enclosures and has a real "parc" feel to it. Nice to spend a few hours in between shopping or something.
SGP V — Google review
Really enjoyable zoo experience! Not your common zoo animals as its more of a big farm animal zoo. Loads of goat species and different birds. An older place but very well maintained. Only downpart is: no seals anymore.
Estelle V — Google review
What a wonderful find! This place is so nice to walk around. I went with my husband but its fantastic for children. You can feed the animals and its clear which ones you can and can't feed. They have so many animals that are easy to see and such a wide variety. The animals are well looked after. A superb day out that's great value for money.
Stephanie W — Google review
Beautifully designed zoo with a great variety of animals, including red pandas, camels, horses, donkeys, cows, eagles, armadillos, and more. The place is very clean and well-maintained. You can even buy food for kids to feed some of the animals, which is a fun experience. Plenty of benches to sit and relax, and the toilets are well-kept. Highly recommended for a family visit. Four adults and a kid costs £38
Mustafa A — Google review
Really liked it here. Very friendly staff. A lot of animals which can also be visited in their areas. Not only goats but also sheeps, the prairie dogs and Alaca's. And of course not to forget about the soo cute red panda. And, yes we appreciated and used the dogs day.
Michael H — Google review
Small zoo but good value for money. Also lot less crowded then the big zoo's so enough room to have a clear view of all the animals. There's also the ability of feeding quite some of the animals when you buy a feeding pack at the entrance. 👍

Museums
LVR-Archaeological Park Xanten is a vast and impressive open-air museum in Germany, offering a captivating journey into the past. Visitors can explore full-size reconstructions of Roman houses, temples, and an amphitheater, gaining vivid insights into life in Roman Germania. The park features multiple entry points and key attractions such as the Hafentempel, Roemer Museum, Amphitheater, and ancient walls and towers.
Extraordinary place! The old Roman city is a kilometer wide and long. The Roman baths, harbor temple, coliseum and museum are very cool. The descriptions have an English translation. A friend who has been to Pompeii said this site is next best after Pompeii. We spent about 3 hours here. Xanten is a nice town to visit too, lots of character and a beautiful cathedral.
Jayne L — Google review
Great experience to relive the Roman period in Germany, from before year 0 until year 500. Seeing how the large city evolved prospered and eventually fell apart under siege from the Frankish tribes. Wander thru the Colosseum, up and down the embankment and fortified walls, stroll along the paths thousands of Romans walked before you and learn stuff in the museum. Well worth a day's visit!
Sebastiaan D — Google review
Amazing! For 11 Euros per adult and children for free, a great price. A huge, beautiful park with so much to see and do. If you like Roman artifacts and history it is a must!

I was on Xanten Archaeological Park for a first time on my life. IT was amazing experience for me. The most I enjoyend the colosseum its fantastic feeling when u are there u can feel the history:). The museum is also very good with the few floors and a lot od ancient artefakts. So when u will have oportunity to go there Just do IT as is realny amazing place for a trio.

Incredibly large area (site of a Roman city) with wonderful recreations of the buildings. The car park at the main entrance needs a parking card and is only for 4 hours - you may need more time!! Play areas (massive fort and bouncy thing) for young people.
Tim ( — Google review
A wonderful day spent in this archaeological park. Lots of beautiful reconstructions that evoke the life of the Romans in the former Colonia Ulpia Traiana. Especially the colosseum and the temple. It's huge! The reconstructions are still being done, so it's worth coming again. There's a lot to walk around. But also to see. The trees in the park are well trimmed, so there's no shade, but they will grow. The paths are the main roads of the former Ulpia. At the other end is a large and very rich and beautifully decorated museum and the remains of the thermal baths.

A History museum done right. Experimental architecture is thé best way to help people imagine the past. The archaeological Museum Xanten shows how it can be done. Even though this might not be for everyone, for those interested in history, with all levels of prerequisite knowledge, it's a great visit. The (partial) reconstruction of the houses, the amphitheater and the temple are great and I particularly enjoyed the ship building shed. The museum is a nice visit as well with information available in English, German or Dutch.

LVR Archaeological Park Xanten in Germany's largest archaeological open-air museum invites you to an exciting excursion into history. Impressive buildings such as the harbor temple and the amphitheater, residential buildings and bathing facilities provide vivid insights into life in Roman Germania. In addition, the award-winning LVR-RömerMuseum, excavations and activities to participate offer a variety of incentives to approach Roman times with all your senses. For children, the meadows and large playgrounds offer many opportunities to let off steam and discover. Good value for money and reasonably priced selection of food, drinks coffee also fair prices. Really good place for kids. Playing area very clean and beautiful 😻 my kids and other kids also really enjoyed! Thank you so much for your good maintenance.

Sights & Landmarks
St. Viktor, located in the heart of Xanten's Altstadt, is a remarkable cathedral with Romanesque origins that have evolved into predominantly Gothic architecture. The cathedral is surrounded by a walled close and stands as an imposing structure within the small town. Its interior boasts opulent and impressive decor, including numerous altars and beautiful stained glass windows to admire. Visitors can also explore the noteworthy cloister.
Without doubt one of the most beautiful churches I’ve ever seen, me and my friends lighted some candles and donated some money to the church for (the windows)? I’m not sure. Anyways, there’s a lot to see and learn in the church and I also think there was something about the Second World War in the basement. Again, I’m not sure. This is because I don’t speak German so a lot of things are hard to understand when it isn’t translated. Anyways I think this is the best place to visit in the city so I would definitely recommend it.

Magnificent cathedral built in between 11 and 12 centuries. Inside of the cathedral you will find amazing wood carved artwork and stone work that can be dated back to 18 and 19 centuries! The stone works on the outside of the cathedral also as magnificent as well. The crucifixion of the Christ with two criminal next to our Christ in the courtyard also is a master piece too! There are different languages booklet/literature that you can pickup to understand the history of the cathedral Soon as you walked into it! Also a media booth you can watch a film regarding the cathedral also. The center garden also is the place you don’t want to miss out on it.

The story of the church goes back to Roman times when a soldier named Victor and serving in a Roman legion refused to sacrifice to the Roman gods. He was supposedly executed for this and later his bones were recovered and buried in a chapel in this place. The church now stands roughly in the place where the chapel once stood. The inside has beautiful carved wooden panels with religious moitifs In front of the church are some nice sculptures

Very fun place for kids! It is quite big, with outside and inside playgrounds. There are multiple areas and lots of table options located in different halls/rooms, so you can be closest to the playground most appropriate for the age of the child. We loved the QR ordering system! So convenient, just scan a QR code at yoir table, order and pay on your phone and food and drinks get delivered to you table! Very easy. You can also order at one of the two bars as well, so no problem if you don't have a smart phone. Kids enter free after 5pm at the moment, if you are just popping in for some food. And the place closes at 7pm. Food was fine. Nothing too special, but my husband did enjoyed his spare ribs and the menu is pretty big with snacking options. I had fish and chips, our child had a boiled sausage, which we preferred much more to the deep fried ones. Plenty of drink options, including wine and beer. :) Everyone who works here is friendly and approachable. We enjoyed our evening stop and definitely recommend this place to other families with children. Kids can be entertained here for hours. There is even an arts and crafts room, which we saw, but it closes at 5pm. Fun place! We will be back.

I don't know where I can start. First of all I was on other places in Netherlands but this one I can send it's the top location in the country. Its so much sectors with so much activities. Also there is outside water activities there is mini football actually there is everything what you can and can't imagine. For me the biggest surprise was the train on second floor.Really amazing place. Also the prices are totally normal and the food it's so delicious and fast prepared.I strongly recommend!

Cool place for kids to play. However, it was very crowded. If you went there, you would think that the birth rate in the Netherlands is over 3 per woman. The baby's changing room should be cleaned more frequently. It smelled really bad inside and it's the same place to heat food in the microwave oven..

Very beautiful place. Lots of space for kids to play and delicious food for parents to enjoy.

Brilliant place for kids. They are always very happy here.
Richard R — Google review
The place is very fun for children, lots of options for safe play, so a good opportunity for parents to relax. Also, there are plenty of options for food and drinks, reasonably priced. The only thing is that every time we went it was quite crowded and loud, even on week days. So if you're thinking you can work while your kid plays, it may not be ideal.

The kids enjoy here very much. We always be here 2-3 times per month. There are different playgrounds. And the food is delicious for kids. The staff is warm hearted.

ZooParc Overloon in Noord-Brabant offers a safari park experience where visitors can encounter big cats, giraffes, and flamingoes. The hilly park allows guests to walk among the animals and even participate in feeding sessions. The zoo features a well-thought-out layout with spacious paths surrounded by lush greenery, creating a natural habitat for the animals. Visitors can also enjoy adventure paths for children and a large playground near the entrance.
What a lovely zoo! It felt very safe for the animals with visitors walking through their enclosures and plenty of places for them to hide away if they want to. Lots of lovely vegetation making it feel very natural. We spent nearly five hours here walking around as a family. Would recommend for a family day out.

Really nice zoo. Not huge, but that makes it easy to see everything without rushing. Walking between the animals is great fun, and the vibe is super relaxed. Perfect for a day out

Very nice zoo to spend a day. There are 2 places with a bigger playgrounds where kids can unwind. (Start and about half way along the route) They also have different expositions from time to time. I went to see the dinosaur and ice age onces. I preferred the dinosaur one but both are nice and a good variety to the animals running around. The animals all look very healthy and have nice enclosures. They are also in the proces of expanding with even more and better enclosures for their animals.

Wonderful family experience!! Such a variety of animals in the most natural environment for each species I have even seen!! There is opportunity to buy a day pass to be the "zoo-keeper of the day", so you go around the animals, feeding and taking care of them, while learning more about them. Unique experience!! Fully worth visiting!

The red Pandas!!!!!! OMG, I could have watched them all day. This zoo is an absolute hidden gem. Relaxed, and easily accessible with a beautiful selection of fascinating animals. Some of which I literally never knew existed, penciltail pigs! And some wonderful spider monkeys, plus oooohhh the Brazzameercat..it was awesome.

General score out of 10: 9️⃣ If you want a different zoo experience from the usual this might be it. ✅ Zoo design. It has been designed to help visitors see all the animals and experience the entire zoo by following the route from start to finish. + You don't get lost. + You don't miss any animals or attractions. + Makes for a great experience. ✅The first zoo I have experienced with zoo guides who talk about the animals for those interested. I particularly enjoyed my encounter with the guide at the kangaroos. ✅ Several Adventure paths have been placed along the route. This keeps the whole visit much more fun for kids. + Our three kids 8,6, and 4 didn't complain about tiredness the whole time. ✅There are some animals you won't find at any other zoo. Eg: Dwarf hippopotamus, Okapi, most lions I have seen in one zoo(5),etc. ✅ Suitable for wheelchairs and prams/strollers. ✅ Washrooms for all groups including wheelchair, old, baby changing, parking place for stroller or pram. Definitely a plus. ✅ The biggest playground is at the end of the route. If you have kids they won't want to skip it so have enough time for that part too😊. ✅ Soft icecream at the shop by the trampoline is really good but it too big. You may want to share with the kids instead of getting one for everyone to avoid throwing them away after having too much. + Suggested they make child portions. ➕✅Tip: Check "vakantie veilingen" to find the best discounts on tickets.

A nice and well maintaned open air Zoo with a lot of different animals to see. Setup is in different zones to seperate the type of animals and habitat. Make sure to pick a dry and sunny day, it is all open air. It big enough for spend half a day. Downside; rediculous prices for food and snacks. $12 for a simple small burger and $7 for a few fries is outrageous!

The Overloon War Museum, also known as Oorlogsmuseum Overloon, is a significant museum in the Netherlands dedicated to World War II history. It boasts an extensive collection of military vehicles and weapons, including a German Panther tank that participated in the local battle of Overloon. As one of Europe's oldest WWII museums, it offers a tangible experience for visitors to learn about the war's impact on the Netherlands.
Mainly came here to see the tanks , but it's a very big museum that it would take almost all day to look at everything . I recommend arriving when it opens. Parking next to museum has a good capacity and is free. There's an exhibition about WW2 in the Netherlands and about people who lived during the war in Netherlands + WW2 info. What I really liked was the D-Dex exhibition, it's like a simulation where you could be an American soldier and land in the beaches. I have only a few problems with this simulation... When you're waiting for it to start outside, and you put English, it simply doesn't work. It's still in dutch + add more water, because I could easily pass the water sprinklers and not get wet :) in mostly some of the parts of the museum, it's either in dutch or German. . . But if I'm sure there was an audio guide on their website for the English. Edit: Thanks for the response! When I was waiting for the D-Dex version in English, it had the British flag, so I went in and it was still in dutch. Personally I don't think it's a big problem since there was more English than dutch, but I still liked my experience here!

Toverland is a family-friendly amusement park in the Netherlands that offers magic-themed roller coasters, rides, live shows, and restaurants. It's a great destination for a holiday with children, offering an array of attractions suitable for both thrill-seekers and those seeking a more relaxed experience. The park features well-decorated surroundings and even includes indoor activities for rainy days. Visitors can enjoy various rides and games while also indulging in reasonably priced food options.
What an awesome birthday! 🥳 After years, I finally made it back to a theme park. I let chance completely decide where to go – and ended up at #Toverland in the Netherlands. Best decision ever! For the first time, I brought my camera along to take pictures of #rollercoasters. And what can I say? #Coaster-Spotting was incredibly fun! 📸 I was particularly impressed by how incredibly child- and family-friendly the park is. With the huge indoor hall, the many creative playgrounds, and the cool climbing park, Toverland is an absolute paradise for families, even in bad weather. The food was delicious, the staff was consistently friendly, and the weather showed its best side. Instead of the predicted rain, we had pure sunshine. ☀️ But my personal highlight came at the very end: the "Last Ride" on the wooden roller coaster #Troy. Since I hadn't been on a roller coaster myself in years, this last ride was really emotional for me and the perfect end to a perfect day.
MZ X — Google review
Really nice park. My kids loved it as there was so much for them to do. There was some stuff we didn't manage to do as they were happy just playing in all the various play areas. and there are some rides we couldn't ride due to height restrictions, but we will definitely be back when they are taller to ride them all. The park was very clean and tidy. The theming was really good and the little interactive elements entertained the kids. The shows we watched were good too. I liked how compact the park was as it made it easy to walk around all day no long paths of nothing to walk down. You exited one area and entered another very quickly with something new and exciting to find around each corner.
Keiran M — Google review
A lovely day out, Fenix and Troy bring the standout rides. Every member of staff we dealt with were brilliant! Excellent value for money, considering the array of rides to choose from. Had lunch at the Flaming Feather and the burger was perfect.

Really nice theme park. Not very crowded, clean and well maintained. If you like rollercoasters, this is a nice park to be. There are, at least four or five. The wooden and the Fenix ones are for adrenaline people. Awesome. We liked it a lot. It is great for kids from 4 and up.

Came a few weeks ago, honestly had the best day. We were fortunate to have blue sky's and sunshine. Definitely our favourite theme park we have ever visited. The indoor area for kids is fantastic, offers hours of fun. Never seen anything like it. There's so much to do here, one day is not enough. Fingers crossed we can come back one day!! 😁
Louisa D — Google review
This park was really good for all ages. They had plenty of rides for little ones and also had rides for bigger kids and adults. I can't say anything about the food as we took lunch with us as we didn't want to waste time waiting for food. If you plan your day right you can see the whole park in one day.
Daryl D — Google review
The main rides are alright. When we were there werent many guests so I can‘t really judge the queues. Food was good, really liked the Pasta inside the hall. Friendly staff members all around, especially the guy on the climbing activity
T K — Google review
Very nice park. Most of the attractions had a queue line under 15 minutes which obviously is ideal. Although a few rides had a very low capacity almost everything was doable. Enough spaces to rest, eat and relax next to all the thrills. And an appreciation towards the park for keeping everything clean non-stop.

Great Schloss & grounds. Schloss opened at 14.00 when we visited. Longish walk up through the grounds on gravel paths. Good cafe/ restaurant.

A place of stunning beauty! We visited on a weekend. Unfortunately, the restaurant was closed for a private event and we couldn’t enter the castle itself. However, it was nice that the entrance fee was reduced to €8 per adult instead of the usual €12. The grounds are huge — you can spend the whole day strolling around, enjoying the scenery and atmosphere. There are plenty of cozy spots to relax: benches, swings, hammocks. The botanical collection is impressive, with many rare and beautiful plants. One point to note: in the landscape park some of the plants and grass looked dry, so a bit more care and watering would make this place even better. There is also a shop on the grounds where you can buy delicious local apples — a nice snack or souvenir. Despite a few limitations, this place is definitely worth a visit. Both adults and children will enjoy it. I recommend it to all lovers of nature and beautiful views!

It was one of the worst top flight arenas to get to that I have ever been to. There was regular busses taking everyone that arrived by train from Dusseldorf going through small streets with congested traffic. It built in an absolute no man's land. (And old US airfield?). The arena itself is ok, with all the beer and brats you expect from a german arena.

Designer Outlet Roermond is situated in the southeastern part of the Netherlands, with a rich history dating back to Roman times. The city of Roermond boasts iconic Dutch architecture, traditional houses, and picturesque streets that reflect its centuries-old heritage. It is also renowned as Europe's premier destination for outlet shopping. The outlet attracts visitors from near and far, with peak hours typically occurring around 2 PM on Sundays.
Visited here Sunday afternoon. If you want to go shopping on Sunday and you are near this area, this is the place to do it. First, parking is €7 per visit. Not a bad deal if you are shopping multiple hours here. They have covered parking garage as well. Plenty of parking including EV charging available during my visit. The shops located here are superb. They have high end luxury brands as well as other well known brands offering decent discount price. Some perks: they have many places to eat, shaded places to sit down to rest, and the visitor’s center has a free water station so you can drink water for free. And washrooms are clean and free to use also. We spent about three hours total knowing which stores to visit/shop and the experience was simply fantastic. We also ate at a couple of places and the price was more on the expensive side (due to the exclusive location) while food tasted quite good. The layout of the shopping center is nicely done and “fun”, navigating around is definitely easy. And you can tell the entire place is well maintained and clean. The Sunday crowd seemed to be increasing in the afternoon, so I would think coming here early is a good idea.
Boots N — Google review
One of the best shopping outlets I have been to. There are so many stores from probably all popular brands in this complex. The layout is easy to navigate with multiple food points, coffee shops and kiosks for snacks. A decently large free of cost play area for kids, two minutes walk to the city center, very reasonable day parking fees, clean and free toilets on every corner make this outlet fantastic for shopping, eating out or just strolling through the great crowd. Highly recommended.
SACHIT V — Google review
Top top 👍👍👍 Great place to buy clothes, you can always find something with good prices and discounts. The only drawback is that on weekends it is terribly crowded, you literally have to wait in line in front of certain stores because of the excessive number of people inside at that moment. My recommendation would be to avoid visiting on weekends or arm yourself with patience, everything else 5 star ⭐️…
Daki S — Google review
Nice place good price. I surprised 50% of seller Syrian and all speaking English arabic Dutch !!! It's only 1 hour from Germany. Recommended
Fantom 7 — Google review
We parked our car in the Kazerneplein underground garage right next to the outlet, and you can walk straight to the main entrance from there. As of 2025, the 24-hour parking fee is only €6.50. It’s currently Black Friday week, and all the good-quality brands have discounts between 30% and 50%. If you’re nearby, it’s definitely a place you should visit for shopping. Street food is quite affordable, and the restrooms were free to use as well.

It is an interesting thing, soso many people, queues everywhere...go on early and not on weekend i guess? But i didnt find it that cheap, or good deals, not really outlet priced..some promotions good, but thats it. Didnt even buy anything..🤔

So many stores. Supposed to be outlet and we went there because it was said that they had extra discount at stores this week but compared to other outlets the prices were even higher. On top of that people are coming for shopping and you still the have to pay for parking, come on!!!

Very beautiful with different plants coverage. Even in November, it looks pretty. I went for a 15 k hike ...

Beautiful nature, wonderful shaded forest with clearly marked pathways to walk your dogs. Shaded parking, lovely restaurant. A magical place, lots of wild mushrooms.

We have been there 4 times and each walking route is different. You can easily spend a whole day here. The only negative is the many cyclists.

It's a great location for a walk in nature. Loads of trails and a wonderful view. I'm looking forward to our next visit. As we enjoy the outdoors and nature. This place had what we expected and more. I recommend it for the entire family and friends.

Amrath Hotel & Thermen Born-Sittard

Spas & Wellness
Airy rooms, some with balconies, in an elegant hotel offering 2 restaurants, a spa & yoga classes.
My visit was very short only for one night and it was for some business stuff at Nedcar. It was very nice, the room was wonderful and it had a small terasse perfect for a quick smoke....... The bed was very comfortable, the rooms was clean, the breakfast was perfect. Sadly I couldnt try the Spa area as it was a no-clothes day 😁 If I have another visits in the area I will gladly stay there ones more. I totally recommend it to you!

Pleasant experience overall however we had booked a luxury room and the bubble bath was not working for covid measures and it was not mentioned before we had booked it. The terms are quite nice and there the bubble baths were working which is a bit contradictory. Breakfast was ok with few warm dishes ( eggs bacon .. ) as well as bread fruits,.. and tasty. The room was quiet but we might expect something a bit nicer for a 4 star hotel.
Frédéric M — Google review
Bad service, food is horrible yet quite expensive: raw vegetables, tiny portions of the protein like a half duck breast for dinner, when ordering red bass fish you get a 5 by 2 cm piece with a small cheap thin white fish next to it to make up the lack of whatever you ordered). The fries that were to acompany these tiny portions didnt arrive at all and we needed to ask the manager. It took them one whole hour the serve the main dish after the entree (tiny bowl of soup). Even the drinks took each time about 30 minutes to arrive. Then the rooms. No ventilation except for a balcony door, which you don't want to open because of the busy highway right across this hotel. In summer it's extremely hot. The beds are hard, the pillows as soft and barely existing. When we arrived we had to change rooms because of the loud noise coming form our bathroom. The whole building looks like it's falling apart wholes in ceilings and walls, leaking bathrooms, stains on walls.it looks like someone stopped caring for it a good while ago. And the forest they claim to be situated next to does also nog exist, its farming land. Please don't waste your money.

OK up to a point. Hotel itself is nice; in need of modernising but still retains a nice charm. Bedroom is functional, again in need of some modern touches and the bathroom could do with a lick of paint and some new tiles. Restaurant service was a disgrace however. Despite there being fewer than 8 people eating that evening, it still took 2 hours for a bowl of onion soup and a chicken satay. When it did arrive it wasn't hot. Staff were apologetic but that's not the point. Personally I wouldn't recommend on that alone.
John M — Google review
This place needs renovation urgently. The room door doesn't open or close properly. Shower cabin is so tiny that your elbow keep hitting the wall/cabin. Each time your neighbor gets in or out of the room is a loud bang as I suppose their doors don't work properly. There is no lobby for people to chill while waiting for others. For the price of the hotel, it really good do with a upgrade.
Lydia T — Google review
The deluxe room is very pretty with a nice bath, only the outlets and heaters are very old and the white curtains discolered. The food in the restaurant is really good and the restaurant/bar looks cozy. The staff is kind.
Loïs G — Google review
What a beautiful place, we enjoyed a super relaxing day in your wellness palace. Everything is well maintained, nicely illuminated. Plenty of saunas and baths to choose from (indoor to outdoor pool, foot bath, hot baths with and without herbal ingredients, whirlpool, Finnish sauna, Hamam, steam room, Herbal sauna with light therapy, crystal salt sauna, cold bath, several showers etc etc etc). Decent clientele, lovely restaurant with wonderful meal options. I'd rate this facility with five stars but unfortunately after checking out we noticed that they billed all dining items extra although we chose for the 3 course menu since it appeared to be a good deal. It clearly states "3 courses of your choice" for 29,50 EUR p.p. but the check out girl said we chose something else apart from the recommended menu by the chef which is completely not true. The waitress did not even present the chef's recommendation nor interrupted us while ordering that any of those items would be extra or not included. So we had a nasty surprise while checking out. Receptionist was not very cooperative and tried to make us believe we did something wrong. Honestly we are talking about maybe 9 EUR but it's just about the way of transparency/service/complaint management. So this experience left kind of a taste which is a pity since we had a really relaxing day. So, basically I'd rate this wellness facility with five stars but due to the unpleasant surprise on our bill and the suboptimal way of dealing with our complaint I'll take off one star. *** UPDATE JANUARY 2017 *** After our second visit we experienced a text book handling with our complaint, therefore I gladly rate with five stars. Thanks a lot!

My first impressions was, this cannot be a 4 star hotel. But I said let's take a look first. Hotel it self looks ok. It was a hot day in May when we visited this hotel. The rooms were run down and there was no Air conditioning nor a fan. No mini bar, or swimming pool, just an old television that did not work because the wall outlets were broken and hanging loose. This is not a place I would like to visit again.

Nature & Parks
Mondo Verde is a 25-hectare theme park and animal park located in Park Gravenrode, Landgraaf. It features international gardens showcasing various cultures, along with attractions such as a dinosaur forest, zoo, and aviary. Visitors can enjoy family-friendly rides and explore the diverse range of animals on display. The park also offers an all-you-can-eat dining option with a variety of food and drink choices. Additionally, Mondo Verde provides a water park for summer fun.
Pancakes were nice, but would be nicer with Nutella. Slush puppies were good but they had only 1 flavour. Water slides were super fun! The gardens were interesting. Tomato soup was not edible. We will definitely visit again.

Overall, the park is enjoyable and offers a pleasant experience. The atmosphere is nice, and it’s a good place to spend time. Pros: The zoo is fantastic! There’s a wide variety of animals, and you can even interact with some of them, which makes it great for families and animal lovers. Cons: - Games: The selection of games is limited, with only a few options, so it feels a bit lacking in activities. - Food and Drinks: Unfortunately, the food could use some improvement. It lacks flavor, and the juice tastes like it’s mostly water. - The coffee was disappointing as well.
Mohamad T — Google review
I’ve read so mixed reviews until now. My kids are 12 and 9 years old, and they loved the place. They went in all the attractions, enjoyed to the most. We could see the panther, lions, tigers and kids we amazed. As a parent I do agree with some people about how small the animal’s enclosure are and that they don’t look that lively. There’s free food and it was not hard to find - it was on the map of the park. The free food is ok and there’s also free drinks, which was really nice on a hot day! The attractions could receive more attention. There many rusts spots, in some places I was almost concerned of the quality of the material. My kids loved and want to go back there and we might go back. Ah there enough places with shade and cover for rain if needed.
Jonatas D — Google review
This is one of the best value parks I have ever seen. For 25 euros we could stay there all day from 10-5, eat as much as we like and also drink. The zoo parts are very well maintained and the animals look healthy and happy. There are some incredible rides for the kids (all included), and adults! Very relaxed atmosphere, I highly recommend a visit.
Lilian W — Google review
I am shocked by how animals can still be treated like this in 2025. Wild animals exposed to noise, close to people and causing them A LOT of stress. Their environment is ridiculously SMALL for what’s truly in their nature. I actively disencourage people to come here. Too little people are aware of what is actually going, even behind the scenes. I didn’t see food, camels were eating some grass on the stones. Not shaved correctly, in a cruel state of health. I hope that animal welfare associations can have an impact on the continuity of this park. Some animals are even inside in such a small, cold cage. On the picture here below we dont see them, they hid. But very saddening.
Aurélie V — Google review
Get your tickets via social deals. Lovely place to visit on summer day. Would definitely go back again. I didn't like that I couldn't find lockers anywhere / it was wasp season and there weren't any wasp traps set up, the level was a bit intense. But besides that great small theme park/zoo/gardens/ water play
Sarah M — Google review
Not recommended: beautiful park that is overcrowded when the weather is nice and serious food safety deficiencies. Landscape park and gardens are very beautiful, nice to watch the animals. However, many animals are kept in (too) small enclosures; out of date as far as I'm concerned. A bird in a closed part of the park has a broken beak that has been duct taped together; this should of course be solved more animal-friendly. The park is not at all designed to handle the high numbers of visitors: enormous queues that Efteling does not even have. This undercapacity also undermines the all-you-can-eat concept: waiting 45 minutes for a small bowl of (over)cooked pasta is no exception. Slush puppy machines are defective, empty, or contain syrup that is too warm or ice mass that is too frozen. Most bizarre is the staff at Villa Toscane who repeatedly (!) drops sandwiches on the floor and then without batting an eyelid puts them back on the pile of food offered. Toilets are not cleaned for hours: poop is on the walls. If you ask the staff for toilet paper, they don't understand you or they can't help you. Staff at at least two attractions do not speak Dutch, English or German and do not know what to do during a disruption. Water park 'Pirate Splash' is not open in May, even when it is 26°C (this is stated on the website if you search carefully). And please note: charging your electric car here is not an option: the available charging station is “reserved for the management of Mondo Verde”.
Ewoud E — Google review
A beautiful park, well maintained, great gardens and combinations to see and to enjoy. The concept is great, many places to sit down and eat or drink something included in your ticket.

Nestled within the vibrant SnowWorld Landgraaf indoor winter sports resort, Hotel Snowworld Landgraaf offers a modern retreat for travelers seeking both adventure and relaxation. Guests can enjoy spacious accommodations with comfortable beds, although some may find the bathroom layout a bit unconventional due to its glass doors that provide little privacy. The hotel boasts an impressive dining experience with delicious meals available for breakfast and dinner at reasonable prices.
Very spacious and well lit rooms. Excellent soundproofing, everything is very clean, and the bathroom and shower are equipped with everything you need: shampoo, shower gel, etc. It takes just a few minutes to get from the ski slopes to the rooms, and you can reach them from the restaurant (first floor) with a convenient elevator. Breakfast is served at the Off Piste Self Service (1st floor). Free parking. It is certainly a bit more expensive than a hotel in Landgraaf, but the convenience justifies the cost. Highly recommended.
Dario F — Google review
Solid 3 stars overall, rooms are decent size with nice modern sink and wooden paneling, a desk, a couch. Sliding door between toilet and shower is a weird but I guess it works. Beds are a little lumpy and walls are thin, but it’s very convenient for a ski weekend. The restaurants are quite good downstairs, and you have instant access to the slopes!
C M — Google review
If you book a room at a genuinely good price and your focus is 100% on the snow activities, accepting the room as a purely functional (and somewhat lacking) place to sleep and shower, then it serves its purpose. The convenience to the slopes is truly unmatched. However, if room comfort, a good night's sleep, or climate control are priorities for you, the current state of the rooms is a bit disappointing and needs improvements. Book for the snow, manage your expectations for the room, and aim for a bargain price. You will have a nice trip ;-)
Chris C — Google review
The location is excellent, offering very convenient access to the ski slopes. Sitting in the bar and bistro areas to enjoy food and drinks is pleasant, as you can comfortably watch the skiers. The snacks here are tasty. We paid €17 per person for breakfast, but the variety was very poor. On multiple days, I noticed that the cucumbers were not washed properly, with soil visible on their skins—this was quite careless. However, the part that disappointed me the most was the condition of the rooms. When we arrived, the heating system in the hotel was completely non-functional due to a technical issue. Although they provided a heater after we called to report it—which was nice—the overall cleanliness of the rooms was unacceptable. Upon entering the room for the first time, there were clearly visible layers of dust on the floor. Cleaning was scheduled only once every three days, and after returning to the room on the third day, we found that we couldn’t enter because the cleaning staff had inserted the “Do Not Disturb” sign into the card slot. This required us to go back to the reception to get a new key. Once we managed to enter the room, we found the beds had been made, but the floors were still untouched. Worse, while the duvet was being arranged, additional dust from under the beds had been stirred up and scattered around the room. I called reception again to report this, and they promised to send someone to clean, but even by the next day, no one showed up. Another major issue was the extremely thin walls. We could hear everything from the neighboring rooms, including conversations.
Sevcan A — Google review
While the location is very good next to the indoor ski area, the rooms are awful. Beds are noisy, toilet/shower combination is not practical, no proper heating in the rooms, cleaning in every 3 days, tasteless scrambled egg every morning. In short, the hotel itself is creating a very bad experience. Update: it is getting weirder everyday, the hotel room is full of dirt just after cleaning, dirtier than before. Update 2: reception and ski center are very much disconnected. The reception sells the wrong tickets (as they don't fully understand the ski center) and you are to blame for buying the wrong tickets.
Fuat A — Google review
We booked for 2 ppl and a kid. said the kid was for free. Came to the reception and had to pay amost 45€ extra. The girl in the reception asked ”and where is she gonna sleep?!” instead of informing us. Really bad and not recommended, this hotel really charges extra for nothing!
Steven M — Google review
The flexibility of the hotel is the worst I have ever experienced in my life. I made an error in my booking and booked a night from Tuesday to Wednesday instead from Monday to Tuesday. I discovered this during check-in in Monday at 15:20 (official check-in is 15:00). I asked what are the options, i.e. if it's possible to shift my booking by one day to the front. This was denied with the reason that a room needs to be cancelled 24 hours prior they check-in day. The hotel insisted to pay the wrongly booked night for 126€ (the breakfast was taken off as a "gesture if good will") and offered me to book an additional night for 142€, since they have rooms available. This is from customer friendliness and service point of view a clear desaster. I would have even accepted a penalty of 20€ for the effort of late cancellation. Errors can happen everywhere, I admitted my error and the flexibility offered was zero. It looks more like a rip-off, since the guest in need needs to stay somewhere and this would have been a good opportunity for selling two rooms. I am sorry that I have to give my first bad review ever, but it's the truth.

The park itself is an unbelievably beautiful and one can see that tit was a huge terraforming effort. On the downside, too many animals were missing/sleeping/away/not visible or our timing was off perhaps. A few others were replaced by plastic copies (like snakes / frogs etc.) with a toddler it is an amazing full day activity. It will take you 5 to 6 hours or even hours to cover everything, including one or two meals, and perhaps some playground time
Taymour A — Google review
Really nice zoo. Maybe one of the best (together with the Arhem) zoo in the Netherlands. The environment was so natural, green, well preserve and maintained. Just beautiful. The animals were happy, well fed. There are plenty of places to have your own picnic meal. You can buy food as well. Toilets are available and many playgrounds for kids. The parking is 8.50€ per day. The entrance is cheaper in September onwards, but still a bit expensive. Not so many animals but the ones they have are super nice. My favorite area was the giraffes. They have, at least, four or five. Lovely. I strongly advise to use the Gaia zoo app to navigate the map. Otherwise the zoo paths are entangled.

It's one of the best zoos i have been to! Lots of vegetation and trees for shades. Even on hot days, it cool enough to walk around. Wide spaces for the animals and lots of small places to look at the animals for children. Also the food and drinks are good and a lot of variations.

Gaia Zoo has a nice environment, but there are fewer animals than in our own garden. The entrance fee is very high – €28 just for a walk through a pretty park. There are more snack bars and restaurants than animals. Total waste of money for the ticket.

Book Store Dominicanen, situated in Maastricht, the Netherlands, is a captivating literary destination set within a medieval church dating back to the 13th century. This unique indie bookstore offers an array of Dutch and English titles across various genres and international selections. The stunning architecture of the former Dominican church provides a serene ambiance for book lovers and history enthusiasts alike.
Walking into Dominicanen feels like entering a literary sanctuary. The moment you step inside this former church, you're struck by the incredible atmosphere - centuries-old stone walls, soaring Gothic arches, and thousands of books creating the most inspiring environment for book lovers. I spent hours here just wandering through the different sections, each level offering new perspectives of this architectural marvel. The café is perfect for settling in with a new purchase and soaking in the unique ambiance. What impressed me most was how they've managed to create a fully functional modern bookstore while maintaining the sacred, contemplative feeling of the original space. The staff clearly takes pride in this special place. Whether you buy anything or not, this bookstore offers an experience unlike anywhere else in the world. Pure magic for anyone who loves books, history, or beautiful spaces.

It amazing how the Dutch people repurposed their old church and became a such beautiful bookstore. The title of most beautiful bookstore in the world is second to none! The old church Become a bookstore is much better some of the other churches became a bar and restaurant or some became an apartments if you asked me! You can slap have a cup of coffee or something in the back of the bookstore to admire the old church of the bookstore or the book you just purchased!

Absolutely stunning bookstore inside a historic church. The architecture is breathtaking, the books are well-curated, and the little café adds a cozy touch. A must-visit for book lovers and anyone who appreciates history and design. The most impressive detail was that the figures on the ground were grave lids(ledger stones).

Boekhandel Dominicanen is truly one of the most beautiful bookstores I have ever visited. Located inside a stunning former church, it offers a magical atmosphere enhanced by colorful lighting that makes the place even more captivating. The book selection is broad and well curated. However, it can get very crowded at times, especially on weekends, likely because many tourists come just to look around, so going up the stairs can feel quite packed and a bit uncomfortable.

Such an amazing place!! It was my first time visiting bookstore that used to be a church. There are murals on the dome and beautiful, calm marble details near the bookshelves. Even though I didn’t find a book I wanted, just sitting in the cafe with a coffee and soaking in the atmosphere was a joy in itself. The café takes last orders at 5:45 PM. It looks like they only serve non-alcoholic drinks at the moment, it’d be perfect if they offer a glass of 🥂 too!

The Basilica of Our Lady, also known as Slevrouwe, is a Romanesque Catholic church located in Maastricht. It was primarily built in the 11th and 12th centuries on the site of an earlier religious building dating back to the 5th century AD. The basilica features stained-glass windows and is a fine example of Mosan architecture.
The Basilica of Our Lady in Maastricht is one of those places that quietly stays with you. Stepping through its heavy Romanesque doors, I felt like I had entered a sanctuary carved out of time itself. The dim light, the scent of candles, and the silence inside the Star of the Sea chapel create a sense of peace that’s almost sacred. It’s not flashy or overwhelming—it’s intimate, timeless, and deeply moving. A quiet corner of the city where history and faith still breathe.

The Basilica of our Lady is a beautiful and peaceful place to visit. It’s one of the oldest churches in the Netherlands and has amazing architecture. The inside is quiet and full of history, with high ceilings, colorful windows, and old religious items.
Lelanie D — Google review
A beacon of faith in Maastricht's historic center, the Basilica of Our Lady ⛪ is a magnificent example of Mosan-Romanesque architecture. Built in the 11th and 12th centuries, its formidable, fortress-like westwork was designed for defense as well as worship. Known locally as Slevrouwe (Star of the Sea), the basilica has been a significant pilgrimage site for centuries, revered for its 15th-century statue of the Virgin Mary. The dark, contemplative interior, with its ancient crypt and valuable treasury, offers a powerful glimpse into the city's deep religious and cultural heritage. The Basilica of Our Lady is a true cornerstone of Maastricht, embodying centuries of history and devotion.

Absolutely stunning. A good audio tour. It is worth the extra ticket price to see the treasury room. Some stunning relics and breathtaking architecture. The collection includes some beautiful examples of mideval embroidered religious garments..

The Basilica of Our Lady in Maastricht is a beautiful old church with a calm and peaceful atmosphere. Many visitors light candles and admire the statue of Our Lady Star of the Sea. The crypts and artwork show its long history, and it’s a quiet place to relax and reflect. It is both a spiritual and historical landmark in the city.

Beautiful church in honor of Maria, definitely worth a stop.

A church that is free to duck out of the rain. The main chapel has very pretty stain glass. There's a small chapel that's open outside of the time for the main church for a quick prayer. Museum portion is 5 euros/person and is separate (Sept 2024). Sort of eerie in a storm, not well lit.

Beautiful place to visit while in Maastricht. The shrine to Our Lady is breathtaking and provides a wonderful moment to pause and pray and light a candle. The Basilica is on a lovely square, where we stopped to have a hot chocolate and soak up the Christmas ambience.

Sint Pieter Fort

Castle
Fort Sint Pieter is an 18th-century hill fort located in a nature and recreation park between Maastricht and Liege. Originally built to defend against the French, it now offers guided tours and is connected to the famous caves of St. Pietersberg via tunnels. The caves, with a total length of 200 kilometers, feature ancient fossils and remnants from World War II.
This place is well-run. The restrooms are free with your ticket. We booked the Fort Tour and enjoyed it so much that we added on the Mine caves tour. I liked how the guide asked questions and explained the reasoning behind the design of the canon shooting area of the fort’s bunkers, for example.

The Fort and the caves are awesome! Our two tour guides explained very well and they transmit their passion on doing their job. It was a really nice visit.

Lovely afternoon out. Did a combined tour with this and the caves. Our guide Luella was very knowledgeable and friendly, we learned a lot and were entertained throughout.

Really cool place to visit as it is rich in history and you get a nice view of the surrounding areas. You can walk on your own but to be honest the best thing you can do is get a guided tour. We had a very lady guiding us and telling us the purpose of the place and how it was used back in the day. Tour wasn't very long and you can get another tour in the underground exhibit on a different theme. All in all I recommend this experience to enhance your knowledge of Maastricht.

Our excursion was in English. Although our guide was not a native English speaker, his story was coherent and interesting. It was a please listening to our guide because he was passionate about the fort’s history! I’m sorry I didn’t ask for his name. If you are interested in architecture or engineering, it’s definitely worth visiting. It might amaze you to see how smart those people were so many centuries ago!

Well worth a visit, this place was amazing. Would advise to dress accordingly as it is cool once you are underground. Our tour guide was amazing and extremely knowledgeable. The history behind these tunnels makes them almost magical and with the artwork dotted throughout makes it all the more interesting. Our tour took just under an hour and we'll worth the money. Unfortunately it did not include the vault so if you want to see that check your booking and I believe it is another 40mins.

My visit to Sint Pieter Fort and the North Caves at Maastricht Underground was truly an unforgettable experience! From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the stunning historical site and its fascinating stories. Our tour guide, Ton, was absolutely fantastic. He was not only incredibly knowledgeable but also passionate about the history and significance of the fort and caves. His engaging storytelling and deep insights made the tour both educational and entertaining. Ton’s ability to bring history to life is commendable, and he ensured that everyone in our group, regardless of age, had a wonderful time. The tour itself was well-organized and offered great value for money. We explored the intriguing tunnels of the North Caves, learning about their historical uses and the various artworks hidden within. The cool, dark caves provided a stark contrast to the sunny fort above, making for a diverse and exciting experience. Sint Pieter Fort, with its impressive structure and panoramic views of Maastricht, was another highlight. Ton’s explanations of the fort’s strategic importance and the events that took place there added depth to our visit. Overall, this tour exceeded our expectations. It was both fun and informative, and we left with a greater appreciation for Maastricht’s rich history. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the area. Don’t miss out on this gem of an experience!

It is a captivating blend of history and nature. The fortress, steeped in rich history and guided by knowledgeable experts, offers an immersive experience for history enthusiasts. What truly sets this site apart are the intriguing underground caves and tunnels, revealing the fort's military secrets. I was enchanted by the cool, dimly lit passageways, which add a mysterious charm to the visit. Surrounded by panoramic views of rolling hills and the serene Maas River, this hidden gem provides a unique and unforgettable journey through time and natural beauty. Highly recommended for a fascinating adventure.

Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery and Memorial

Military cemetery
Sights & Landmarks
Remains of 7,992 US soldiers interred in a cemetery run by the American Battle Monuments Commission.
The largest American WWII memorial in Belgium. Beautiful and educational space with each state and some territories’ seals engraved on the building. Right on a main road and worth stopping for at least a few minutes. (Note the parking seems to close earlier than the memorial; 4 vs 5pm as of Sept 2024.)

They say, “If you stand still, you fall behind.” But in a place like this, you have to stand still. To pause. To reflect. On what was lost — so many lives, taken in the name of God, of money, of ideas that lost all meaning in the bloodshed. And yet, humanity seems to have learned so little. How many more must die before we truly understand what peace means? A place filled with silence. But the silence screams.

I arrived here somewhat by accident just out on a bike ride after taking part in the Liege Bastogne Liege event and when I parked up my bike just outside I was met by a somewhat stern warden who told me I couldn’t leave it there. When I spoke to her I told her I had been to several American cemeteries including the Somme and elsewhere in Belgium. Once she realised I was genuinely interested her mood completely changed and I was actually given a place inside the building to keep my bike whilst I visited the cemetery. Like all American cemeteries here in France and Belgium this place of burial and remembrance is absolutely immaculate, sad and intriguing at the same time, a fitting reminder to all those who gave up their lives in the great wars.

Visited on a Leger Tour, incredibly beautiful Cemetery and Memorial, The largest US cemetery in Belgium.

Beautiful cemetery grounds. Peaceful and much quieter and less crowded than Normandy. Very worth a visit. Parking lot is small. There is a WC on the opposite side of the cemetery from the parking lot, just look for the sign.
Chelsea M — Google review
A deeply moving and highly impressive place, which brings home the cost of freedom paid by so many young American men so far from home. The members of staff are excellent and very helpful.

Beautiful and moving. 7,987 American Soldiers who lost their lives during WWII rest here. Humbled to have visited to pay respect.
Michael M — Google review
Very emotional visit. If you're in Belgium and can make a stop, I highly suggest visiting some of the men who gave their all for the liberation of Europe in WWII. If you're looking to visit please either have a tour group ready to help you get there or rent a car. It's probably too far to walk and the small country road doesn't have a side walk.

Bodies of Water
Lake Warfaaz, a man-made lake near Spa, was created by a dam in 1892 to regulate the Wayai River's waters and prevent downstream flooding. Covering 8 hectares with a capacity of 360,000 cubic meters, it offers various recreational activities such as pedal boat rentals and serene strolls around its picturesque shores. Visitors can enjoy picnics, kayaking, or simply take in the fresh air while admiring the natural beauty of the area.
Beautiful place for picnic. Get fresh air and freshen up.

Watercycling on the lake is no good here. For 7 euro per half hour it is not worth it. There are many fishermen along the side. Not the whole lake is accessible for watercycling.

Spas & Wellness
Located in the picturesque town of Spa, Thermes de Spa offers a blend of modern wellness and traditional hydrotherapy. The thermal bath complex provides indoor and outdoor swimming areas, steam rooms, and massages with a stunning view of the city. Visitors can follow in the footsteps of centuries-old guests to experience the reputed benefits of the spring waters, such as improved circulation, metabolism, and skin health. The facility also features saunas, hammams, and various beauty treatments utilizing the local spring water.
Quiet, relaxing atmosphere. Clean, tidy. Tasty cuisine, large portions. There were quite a lot of people, but due to the rather large territory, it was not felt and did not bother. We will come again, we liked it.
Yana L — Google review
It is a nice place but not maintained so well. The showers don’t work well, and the facilities are basic. The saunas are nice, but there are only two of them, one steam and one dry. The place is like a swimming pool with amazing view from the pool and the sauna. The pool is not so big, but definitely nice vibes and a pleasant atmosphere. We enjoyed our time there. We went by the private funicular from the hotel down the hill which was very convenient.
Ati — Google review
Had a lovely time here. Really nice naturistic area of the spa, with a sauna and hammam. There is also an area where you can enjoy the sauna with the swimsuit. The pool is quite big, and the space outside is quiet and you can enjoy the nice view. The relaxation areas are a bit small and not always quiet though. Also the areas inside the changing rooms could be a bit cleaner, and the showers don’t work super well but overall they’re okay. Didn’t have any food but it seemed a bit pricey.
Chiara C — Google review
The structure is quite old, a nice renovation would make it better. I had a massage and it was a very relaxing experience, but the rest was not so relaxing. The floor is dirty of water and lots of hair and it is mandatory to walk barefoot. Hygiene should be the priority in such a place. There should be more staff cleaning all the time, because walking on other people hair is disgusting. Not to mention that walking on this wet floor is very dangerous. Showers were also not new and clean. Honestly I would have expected more.
Giulia P — Google review
The name sounds more special than the place is. More like a public but warmer and much more quieter pool. The 'brasserie' looks good but minimal choice of meals. For the price good and large portions. Might come back, might not
Arne V — Google review
It’s truly a very peaceful place, the food is incredibly delicious and tasty, the staff are excellent, but the massage is not very impressive.
Raha K — Google review
This review is for the bath and sauna facilities as I didn’t have any treatments (massages etc). I was tickled by the idea of visiting the “OG” spa. The pool areas are enjoyable, with special little fountains and jets to self-massage in the water. Locker rooms are kept very clean by the attendants. The sauna area was small but adequate, I suppose; there was one sauna and one hammam and three different pools of different temperatures (this was the naturalist area, I didn’t venture into the swimwear-required area). The restaurant isn’t itself a reason to visit, but it does its duty as a place to refuel during a long day. The complex doesn’t feel “fancy”, more “clinical”, which is just something to be aware of. FYI, they rent robes at the reception area.
Rex P — Google review
Very nice spa, but the ladies working in the reception are very unkind, didnt gave the full information, gave us some towels, and at the end charfe us 18 euros just to use 2 towels. Felt scam and their attitud sucks. Bitter sweet experience after a nice day in spa. People just taking advantage to make money...
