The beach is located in Santa Teresa Gallura, in the north of Sardinia, and is just a few minutes' walk from the historic center of the town.
Beautiful beach with lovey white sand and cristal clear water, just paradise in good sunny weather. Make sure you have a bamboo or plastic mats with you as you are not allowed to lie just on the beach towel. Make sure to bring your snorkelling gear as there is plant to discover under water. There is few bars around if you need something to bit
Sebastian W — Google review
Beautiful beach. Soft white sand. Crystal clear blue water. Purchase beach access ahead of time. Restaurant nearby has the best pasta for lunch. The town square is fun to walk in the evening.,
Benjamin G — Google review
A beautiful beach. Easy access and with comfortable services. It is important to remember to bring your mat, but even if you forget you can buy it there.
Domenico R — Google review
Beautiful beach You have to buy your ticket beforehand to enter the beach. Cost only 💰 3.50 € per person, it's worth the price since they also have access for clean toilet, shower area The beach is accessible also for those who have disabilities.
Jean — Google review
One of the nicest beaches I've ever been to. The sea is beautifully clear and the sand clean. The beach is small and can get busy, there is a ticketing system in place but the staff helped us with the tickets and mandatory bamboo beach mat.
Peter F — Google review
This beach looks beautiful. Photo taken mid September. People still swimming, green flag out and stunning colours. Wish we had stayed longer here.
Natty H — Google review
Spiaggia Rena Bianca is stunning, but keep in mind that during the summer months, online reservation is required due to limited daily access. Also, using a beach mat (straw mat) is mandatory – if you don’t have one, they’re available on-site for €6.

Really beautiful beach! Necessary to make a reservation during peak season. Water is unbelievably clear with lots of fish!

Castello della Fava

Castle
Sights & Landmarks
Historical landmark
Castello della Fava, located in Posada, has stood for over 800 years and offers a glimpse into its tumultuous history. The castle's medieval stonework and tall tower provide visitors with unparalleled views of the picturesque surroundings. Climbing to the top requires a small fee but rewards with breathtaking panoramic views. The narrow and steep stairs leading to the top may pose a challenge, but the experience is worth it for those who appreciate historical sites and stunning vistas.
The views from the top make the climb worthwhile. Get your tickets from the 'blue house' before going to the castle entrance otherwise you'll have to walk back down. Steep ladder and small hole to climb through to the very top.
Mike S — Google review
Castello della Fava is a decent spot if you're looking for a panoramic 360° view of the surrounding area. The walk up to the castle is quite enjoyable, and the scenery along the way is lovely. Entry is €4 per person, which is fair, but the castle itself doesn't offer much beyond the view. If you have some free time and nothing else planned, it's worth a quick visit—but it's not a must-see.
Thiago Z — Google review
Beautiful quaint town with stunning views. Visited Castello della Fava and really enjoyed it. The small town is very quaint and charming, with narrow streets leading up to the castle. The walk up requires a bit of effort but it's absolutely worth it once you reach the top; the views are beautiful and panoramic. Entrance was just 4 euros, very reasonable. If you're staying in Budoni or nearby, it's a great little trip and a nice break from the beach. Definitely recommend.
J.R A — Google review
Entry fee 4 euro. Place is clean but needs more maintenance. You get a nice view of the surroundings. Getting on the roof of the tower can be tricky due to the small ladder and roof access hole.
Silviu I — Google review
Impressive view, challenging way up when it's 40°C, but it was worth it. Not so many visitors; it was quiet, and the panoramic view was stunning. A 4€ admission fee: not everyone's going to think it's worth it, but you are financially supporting the preservation of culture, so forget it; you are probably on vacation, stop counting dimes. Note, if you are bodily challenged or a bigger person, you might not fit the small trap door to the roof. Check the attached pictures.
Nathan L — Google review
Well worth the detour. Climbing the final stairs of the tower is like a rebirth as one has to squeeze thru a narrow opening.
Fabien H — Google review
Visited Castello della Fava has panoramic views. The small town has narrow cobble streets leading up to the castle. The walk up requires a bit of effort but it's worth it. Entrance is 4 euros.
Sean C — Google review
Posada is pure Sardinian magic – colorful alleys, stone houses, and the most stunning view over the valley and the sea. 🌅 Wandering through the old streets feels like stepping back in time, and once you reach the top, the panorama is unforgettable. One of those villages where you just want to slow down, breathe, and stay a little longer.

Spiaggia La Caletta is a stunning 5-kilometer long beach located near the village of La Caletta. The sand is clean and smooth, and the water is crystal clear, making it perfect for swimming and enjoying water activities. The beach offers beautiful sunrise and sunset views behind the mountains during summer. It's family-friendly with spacious areas, suitable for various activities including surfing. There are also amenities such as beach bars, showers, and toilets available in the vicinity.
Really big beach, we found straight away place for the umbrellas. The water was amazing no seaweed no rubbish. Car parking was easy too find and did not have to pay for it.
Sarah T — Google review
What an incredible beach—stretching for around 5 km! You can also explore San Giovanni by entering through the port. The sand is soft and spotless, and the water is beautifully clear. In the early morning around 7 am, the water is cold, but by 9 am it warms up nicely, and the breeze is minimal. Later in the afternoon, it can get a bit windy. It’s an ideal place to catch the sunrise, and in summer, the sunsets behind the mountains are stunning. There are a few beach bars nearby, and while showers and restrooms are available, they are a short walk from the main entrance.
Laura N — Google review
Very good beach for children perfect not deep you have to pay a working fee in high season
Dirgni “ — Google review
Beautiful white beach with deep blue sea. Perfect for on a sunny day, but still as beautiful with less good weather.
Thomas Z — Google review
Amazing beach - it’s long for 5km. You can also discover San Giovanni accessing through port. Sand is clean, smooth; water is crystal clear… in the morning at 7 am it’s cold but starting from 9 am is warmer and warmer without wind. In the late afternoon it’s windy. Suitable to watch sunrise 🌅 and sunset in the behind the mountains in summer. There are beach bars around. There are showers and toilets but not close from the entrance.
Sarah O — Google review
Nice and quier place in early morning. Nice view during the sunrise.
Lucio C — Google review
A really nice beach. White-ish sand. Really fine and soft. You will find shells along the beachfront but not so many under water. Swimming is easy even for non swimmers as the water is ahallow for a long time. No public showers but parking is free if you park near the town center or next to the harbour of la caletta. 5/5 would swim again
ImpGimp — Google review
Crystal clear water and nice wide sandy beach as long as you can see. Family friendly and when we were there in September it was spacious and pretty empty. (I'm guessing it's more crowded during summer) - For us it was perfect, we stopped by for a day. Waves looked good for surfing even.

With its 2500-meter stretch of fine sand, it's one of the longest beaches in the area. Despite some seaweed and a slight odor, the emerald waters and uncrowded shores make it an ideal spot for a peaceful day by the sea.
Super easy to get to and short one minute walk to the beach from the parking. We were there on a super windy day,so didn’t enjoy that much.
Vicky L — Google review
Beautiful beach between the sand dunes. We went on a windy day end of July and it was practically empty. Recommend to stop for a delicious polpo sandwich at the beach kiosk near the entrance
Adrienne N — Google review
Amazing place to visit and stay to relax, surrounded by dunes that recreate an amazing view. The parking is 2.5 euro per hour like in all the coast but you can get a daily for 12 euros.
Alberto G — Google review
Amazing beach, white sand, lovely water, great scenery. Definitely a must!
Diana R — Google review
Really nice beach, with loads of dunes and fine sand, clean water and not very crowded. It's really long and peaceful. One of the hundreds beautiful beaches in Sardinia, it worth it! You can find a parking at the entrance, some of them in the shadow
Pablo D — Google review
Today is August 16 which means super crowded in Sardinia. The water is quite wavy and windy but you can walk far in to the water as its nice and shallow. Parking was 10 Euros which we don't mind paying but it's so crowded here which made it not so pleasant. The sand is fine but not clean in areas.
Diane V — Google review
The beach itself is very beautiful, has emerald water and very nice sand, but there are a lot of seaweed on the shore, sand, water bottom and just floating around. It also gives off a bad smell but you get used to it. The very nice side of the beach is that it isnt crowded with people like other good beaches are. If you come on the workdays (monday to friday) you wont see much people so thats a huge plus. There are a few sea bars that are nice also. The beach itself is also very long. Theres a lot of space for you. The underwater life for snorkeling isnt that interesting. You can see a few fish here and there but nothing more.
Mykolas — Google review
Nice beach with easy access to the water, the soil it's mixed sand and big rocks, nice scenery and nice reef to snorkelling or swimming. Parking lot at 1€/hrs or 6€ full day, at just hundred meters from the sea. The whole beach is not very big, but it doesn't seems to get very crowded.

Spiaggia di Cala Spalmatore is a serene spot for swimming, snorkeling, and boating with its crystal-clear waters and picturesque cliffs. The area is part of the La Maddalena archipelago, featuring other stunning beaches and coves on islands like Spargi, Budelli, Razzoli, and Santa Maria.
I visited Spiaggia di Cala Spalmatore on a sunny and warm October weekday, and it was an amazing experience. The beach was peaceful with only a few people, making it perfect for relaxation. Parking was easy to find, which made the trip even more convenient. The crystal-clear waters and beautiful surroundings create an ideal spot to enjoy nature. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a serene beach escape.

This beach has nothing interesting outside of the view on yachts that anchor in the bay. It’s fairly small, located near the road, the water feels on the dirty side, there is not so much place and it’s not super picturesque. Overall I’d avoid this one
Alexey S — Google review
Nice beach, I think there are nicer one around the island but my partner was very fond of this one. If you are keen you can walk through the water to get to some quiet spots :) i stepped on a sea urchin so be careful!
Korina K — Google review
Wonderful place with many advantages. Great service offered there. Umbrellas and sunbeds are high quality and comfortable. Beach is located in a very quite place protected from wind. Anna Lisa offers so great support and possibility of earlier reservation. Strongly recommended

Great little beach on La Maddalena. Rock formations surround this beach on three sides, making it naturally sheltered from the wind. On the very left there’s a tiny separated part, so if you’re lucky, you can fee like you are all alone there

Beautiful beach with good snorkeling! Nice little bar although we only got drinks. Beach can get quite busy.
Ellie C — Google review
Lovely little secluded beach, very quiet and peaceful, lots of little fish in the sea

Accessible from the parking area are both Lu Impostu beach on the right and Cala Brandinchi on the left, separated by a small forest-covered rocky promontory.
Amazing place. Is a private beach so you have to pay 2 euros per person to go in and parking is 2.50 euros per hour. But worth is as is quiet and beautiful.
Ugo D — Google review
You only have to buy a ticket to access the beach in the summer, we went in mid-may and didnt have to. Only the parking was paid. There is access to spiaggia impostu and brandici from the same parking lot and surprisingly they are quite different. Brandicci had more shallow waters so you could walk fairly ahead with the water still being knee level. There is a small shed to change and use the toilet in brandicci. The water was really calm when we went.
Megna J — Google review
The beach is nothing like it is presented in the photos. The water has a lot of algae and rocks, and the seabed is not entirely fine sand as shown. On the shore, there are many branches and trash, which makes it less enjoyable than expected.

Very nice beach, parking is literally a 1min walk away from it. The beach club in front of it only opens during the peak season.
On P — Google review
We enjoy this beach. It is on the smaller side paying parking lot walking distance. We were here before the summer not as crowded. Beautiful clear water, there is a beach club walking distance for drinks food and more $$$-$$$$. If you need to use the restroom they do charge $1 Euro for to use it unless you eat at the drink bar or rent the lounge and umbrellas. This beach is good for couples, somewhat families with older children. The only downside the constant annoyance of beach sellers.
Pellon L — Google review
Amazing water for snorkeling and swimming; gets busy and crowded very quickly. The Best time is early morning. Parking is not too big, so if you come after 9.30, you might not find a car parking space. There is a small beach on the left hand side and two beaches on the opposite side. It’s very nice and definitely worth visiting!

Visited in october, after 5 p.m. so we found the place to park the car (first hour is ~2.55€/h) the beach is small but cozy, smooth sand and clear water

Brandinchi Beach, also known as Little Tahiti, is a stunning and lively beach located north of San Teodoro in Sardinia. It boasts clear, shallow waters that are perfect for snorkeling and safe for swimming. The beach offers a picturesque panorama with views of the island of Tavolara. Surrounded by a pine forest, the contrast between the green vegetation and the blue sea is especially striking from October to May.
Absolutely stunning beach. It is kid-friendly since it is very shallow. Parking is organized. In order to get it, you have to book in advance (about 48 hours prior). They have limited access. Each day at 18:00 they open booking for the second day.
Jose T — Google review
really beautiful beach, I see what all the hype is about as the sand is white and water is clear. however, given you have to pay for both entry and parking, in my opinion the coast has nicer beaches that are less crowded. still worth the experience
Antonia P — Google review
Beautiful water, wonderful view, €2/person for entry, so many people and the beach/sand area is quite narrow. No regular towels are allowed. Only microfiber, plastic or polyester picnic blankets or reed mats. The beach police will 100% check what you laying on because you cannot take sand out of the beach. Very strict rules. Basic restaurant on site, and the GPS had a very hard time to find the main entrance. You need to look for a huge rock on the side of the road saying Cala Brandinchi

It’s the 3rd time for us visiting this beach, after 2020 and 2023 and we loved it this time even more. It is just a beautiful setting. Yes it is crowded, yes it is expensive but you know this already by the need for a reservation. My advice is to go early (preferably before 10) and walk north and you won’t have a problem in finding a spot.

Good for kids as the water is shallow but gets busy because of that. Is a private beach so you have to pay 2 euros per person and parking is 2.50 euros per hour but is worth itm

Really nice beach. Most often packed. Limit is around 1470 people. Almost 400 to much. Come early, really early. After 12 its hard to find a spot for towels.

Beautiful beach with ample parking. We entered through Giardini. Make sure you make reservations in advance!

Ah, Cala Brandinchi – affectionately known as Little Tahiti, though I suspect Tahiti might file a defamation claim if it saw the place this summer. Upon arrival, I was immediately struck by the sheer vibrancy of the beach. Not the turquoise water or the golden sand, mind you, but the dazzling array of umbrellas, inflatable flamingos, and the occasional elbow to the ribs. It’s a rare talent to make one feel nostalgic for the peaceful serenity of a rush-hour subway in Milan. The beach itself is… how shall I put it… rich in texture. Every few meters you’ll find delightful surprises: an empty plastic bottle here, a half-buried chip bag there. It’s almost like a scavenger hunt curated by Poseidon himself. For marine life enthusiasts, this is the place to be. Forget aquariums — here, you can witness the majestic Sardinian shark (photographic evidence included). Truly thrilling, especially when one is still in the water. As evening approached, I discovered that leaving the beach with one’s dog can be quite an odyssey. Between the labyrinth of sunbeds and the scent of melted sunscreen, one wonders if Odysseus himself ever tried to find his way back to the car park. And let us not forget the mysterious sea creature that emerged from the depths — an elderly gentleman dressed as a mermaid. I can’t say whether he was a local legend or a performance artist, but I do applaud his commitment to aquatic authenticity. All in all, Cala Brandinchi is the perfect destination for those who enjoy chaos with a touch of mythology. Come for the crowd, stay for the confusion. Five stars for entertainment, two for actual relaxation.

Spiaggia di Cala Coticcio

Outdoor Activities
Spiaggia di Cala Coticcio, also known as Sardinian Tahiti, is a stunning beach nestled in a deep cove surrounded by rugged cliffs. Accessible via a 1.5-hour hike from a designated parking area, this hidden gem offers swimming and sunbathing opportunities. It's important to note that access to the beach and the surrounding area now requires a special permit and must be done with a local guide to preserve its natural beauty.
🏝️Paradise beach , truly stunning (specially in low season when at some point we were just in 4). Once you arrive to the 1st beach, continue for a bit more cross the rocks on the left side; you will be rewarded with an even better little Cala only accessible otherwise by boat/swimming. 🅿️ We left the car parked on one side of the road , at the beginning walk. Easy to find following google maps. 👟The walk from the road is approx 1.65km / 35-40min. It is moderate hike with many up & down hills. It can feel tougher with the heat. Strongly recommend to bring comfortable shoes & enough water. ⛱️ If possible bring an umbrella to cover from the sun as there is not much shadow in the calas. Also it’s a good spot for 🤿 ♻️ As there is no trash in the beach /parking please bring back with you all of it to ensure we keep clean the natural park.

Could be our favorite beach in all of Sardinia! Very small but easily accessible by boat and swimming in, incredible photo opps!
Shaun A — Google review
One of Sardinia’s protected beach. Only 60 people allowed per day. No boats, no shortcuts—just one hour of rocky descent (and a bit of rope-aided scrambles). We went with an official guide on a group hike. It’s not a stroll in the park. It’s a hike that earns its reward. And when you finally jump into that crystal-clear Sardinian water, every drop feels like nature’s applause. Was it worth the climb, the sweat, the steep descent? Absolutely. Would I do it again? Also yes. Coticcio is a marvel. Some places aren’t just beautiful—they’re worth earning. The list of official guides can be found in the official park website, most of which can be contacted via WhatsApp. We went on the afternoon session, which means climbing back up with the sun not in front of our face, makes it easier.
Eggya C — Google review
Really beautiful beach, but a tough trip to get there. We were quite unprepared as there wasn't much information, so I'll share some here. The entire hike is in the sun, so bring enough water! We were sweating like crazy and there is a lot of climbing and descending. There are some tough spots where you will have to descend sitting, so make sure you have your hands free and aren't heavy loaded. You should wear sneakers of some sort, because there is someone checking if you do at the beginning of the trial. She won't allow you to do the trial if you wear flip flops, and with good reason. The beach consists of two beautiful little beaches divided by rocks and the water is delightful to swim in after the hike. As the lady said, the trial is recommended for experienced hikers, and they will take about 45 min to go to the beach and another 45 to return.

Sardintrek (Park guide) Park regulations: Access is only permitted when accompanied by an authorized guide. Access requests must be made at least 7 days in advance. There are 4 shifts of 5 hours each, two in the morning and two in the evening. Online payment of a €3 ticket is required. A natural pool, an aquarium ideal for snorkeling, fantastic water, and two heavenly beaches

Spiaggia Poltu Di Li Cogghj, also known as Spiaggia del Principe, is a stunning beach nestled in a small cove with clear, blue waters and tranquil views. It was named after Prince Karim Aga Khan who favored this spot. The crescent of sand is backed by lush cliffs and adorned with large pink granite rocks. The water ranges from aquamarine to cobalt blue, making it perfect for snorkeling.
We loved Spiaggia del Principe. The best beach in our opinion, if you are looking to get away from near by beach clubs noise and civilization. There is a dirt road parking lot and it is about 8-10 minutes walk to the beach access via a dirt pathway with some level of inclines at least 1/3 of the way. Not recommended for people with hiking issues or down and up partial steep hiking. But once you get there is worthwhile!❤️

The beach is stunning itself, but be aware that it is tiny, has no public toilets or showers, and has a barely alive food and drinks track—definitely not worth the time and climbing effort to get there. Parking is available for a fee, some free spots by the road
Анастасія К — Google review
The beach is nice - it’s really beautiful with turquoise water, the sand is white and soft and clean. It takes around 10 mins of easy walk from the parking. Alternatively, a tuk tuk service is available but no reason to use it unless you have trouble moving around. This beach gets really crowded though so the best time to visit is early morning or late in the evening. Parking is likely also problematic in the peak hours. The swimming area is pretty wide but the large part of is it really shallow. There were also a bunch of seagulls which was not so nice. Water was on the colder side at the end of August. Overall I can recommend this one, it’s one of those more popular ones due to the easier access and not an exceptional gem but it’s still good and beautiful.

Spiaggia Poltu Di Li Cogghj is beautiful! There’s parking available, and it’s about a 10–15 minute hike to get there. It does get crowded, but the crystal-clear water makes it worth it. There are also people walking around selling hats and towels on the beach, which I personally found a bit annoying.

The area offers convenient accommodation close to the airport and beautiful beaches, with spacious, clean lodging featuring amazing views from patios and gardens. Visitors can enjoy well-maintained Villagio grounds with lush gardens, boat rentals for island exploration, and the opportunity to see dolphins.
Wonderful beach, it's in a more remote location but still easily accessible by car. The surroundings are wild and the views are out of this world. Absolutely stunning. The water is so crystal clear. Ideal for snorkeling, we managed to see a good variety of fishes. Highly recommended.

Gorgeous beach I found my coincidence. The road down there is unpaved and a bit rocky. Can get adventurous depending on the weather and potholes. At the beach were small paddle boat and SUP rentals even off season. Parking was free beginning of October.

Don't get me wrong, the beach must be amazing during low season. But the reality is, if you're going there during peak season, well you better choose something else as a destination. See the videos and the pictures I shared. You wouldn't even find a spot to place your beach towel. Even if you come early in the morning a massive crowd of people is gonna come after you, screwing everything up. There are much better places in Sardegna 😉
Roberto I — Google review
It’s a beautiful beach with a mix of area with sand and others with pebbles. Gets busy but you can always walk a bit more and find an empty space all for yourself. It gets really wavy when it’s windy though. We loved it, you get some shade of the trees and you can snorkel!

Definitely one of the best beaches of the island. What is really missing is a good bar. The bar is very simple. The is also an organised part of the beach with just to rows of good quality sunbeds, there is a rental of everything you imagine. The view is fantastic. The sea is very calm and the water is blue aquamarine colour. The sand is white thin and soft in the water though the sand on the beach is more pink and bigger size. Enjoy!

The view & the beach are very good. The staff however is very unfriendly. We were here with a group and we weren’t welcomed friendly. We asked questions politely and the satff ignored us or looked vey uninterested when answering. They should smile more & be polite. We pay for a nice time and service and get treated like dogs Never have I ever been on a restaurant where the water is exclusive of the menu. We had to pay extra for our beverages at dinner. The hotel itself id good but the staff should do 10 times better!!!!!

Normally I wouldn't give one star reviews, but people with allergies, some even fatal, were given food with their allergies in it in every meal. They were also lying about allergens being in the meals, they told someone who is allergic to olive (oil) on the first night that there wasn't olive oil in the salad, then on day two they were told by a different waiter that in the exact same salad there was indeed olive oil, this is correct since they had an allergic reaction the day before. They also forgot who from the group had these allergies. We also asked for water as our bottle ran out, twice over the span of 90 minutes. The only thing near water we got was when a waiter walked by us, bottle of water in hand, smirking at us, looking us right in the eye. The rooms were adequate and the location was good. Not very near a lot of things, but it was near the beach. There was also rot in some of the rooms.

Santa Severa Castle is a striking medieval fortress located on a promontory, offering stunning sea views from the Saracen Tower. The castle overlooks a long stretch of wide sandy beach, making it one of the best beaches near Rome. The beach, known as spiaggia libera, is freely accessible to all and gets quite crowded during the summer months. The castle's historical legacy is remarkable, with massive polygonal blocks visible in its walls.
This is the best place we ever stayed ❤️. Me and my family enjoyed staying in this amazing castle situated on the shore of the sea wit breathtaking view on the sea from the balcony room 😍 and soooooooooo silent, the only thing that we were able to hear was the waves of the sea 🌊 ❤️ 😍. We will remember this beautiful acomodation for ever 🥰😍 💯 recommend to everybody

We had the pleasure of staying here for a couple of nights and the location is an absolute treat. Moving around the premises is a little awkward as the place is a living museum and certain areas are off limits or require a ticket for access, but we managed. Nobody speaks english so you need to be pretty self sufficient. There is a common area for hotel guests with a kitchen, books, soda and coffee machines and free wifi throughout. If we ever come back here, I hope we can get a room with sea view or a balcony, but other than that the place is magical, I found it's truly worth the experience.

Wonderful location! You can spend sometime in the castle and also have a nice sea coast walk. A big part of the castle is free to visit. A ticket for the museums is 8 euro for adults. The museums are recommended to visit. There is an interesting private museum of alchemy in the territory of the castle (entrance and excursion is for donation). There are also hand-made masters with beautiful creations. Bar and food zone is near the castle. Also a little restaurant is nearby on the beach

A great castle right on the shore. We were surprised that this castle was more than a single building. It had an outer wall, buildings inside the wall, and then finally the large castle. We didn't stay here but I read it offers rooms to stay in for a very reasonable rate.

Lovley beach, can look busy but is still very quiet. Parking opposite is 5 euro, don't forget to exchange the ticket for a sun bed receipt at the main hut. Additional sun beds and umbrellas are also 5 euro each. Take your receipt to the beach helper guy by the shower on the beach. He will ask where you want to go and sort out your bed/s/umbrella/s and then just enjoy. Highly recommended. Only 4 stars as we didn't eat at the restaurant so can't score it. It did look nice tho! During my recent adventure, I had the pleasure of visiting the Pontile di Ostia, a charming pier that stretches out into the shimmering ocean. As I strolled along its length, I was greeted by a refreshing breeze and warm sunshine overhead. The atmosphere was lively with sunbathers soaking up rays and swimmers enjoying the inviting waters. My journey began at the Fabulous Village campsite, where we drove to Ostia in the evening to catch a glimpse of the sea.
Windy but awesome, great for wave watching

(Translated by Google) Staying at the Fabulous Village campsite, we drove up to Ostia late in the evening to see the sea. Access by car was quite easy, about 15-20 minutes. Parking was a huge problem; it was packed everywhere, and every space was taken. We arrived on a Saturday in May after 9:30 PM. When we finally managed to squeeze in and park, we were very disappointed. Heading towards the sea, all you could see were fences and railings from various restaurants and resorts, still closed at the beginning of May, effectively blocking access to the sea. We had to walk quite a distance, heading parallel to the shoreline, and were about to give up and return to the car, until we finally reached the square, at the end of which is the pier, and we could finally get our long-awaited sea view. On Saturday around 10:00 PM, there were a lot of people, mostly young people. The pier isn't very large, but it's a pleasant place to stroll and enjoy the views of the sea and coastal landscapes.

It's a bit small and a magnet for all the buskers and walk by sellers. But it does mean you can walk out for the views and not get your footwear dirty on the tufa black sand. There's a breakwater to the right with a fisherman statue .. But sadly I didn't see any context reading material as to why.

Italian restaurant
Antico Traiano is a restaurant located in Ostia, Italy, known for its late-night dinners and seafood. The menus are designed to resemble large newspapers with the history of the restaurant and a variety of delicious dishes. Visitors have praised the tender and flavorful calamari, as well as the reasonable prices. However, some have found the fried squid to be too tough and had mixed experiences with the service.
we ordered 2 pizzas and both of them were really good, except the fact that the pizza edges were a little bit burnt. the stuff is kind and reacts very quickly. the atmosphere is just so good. there are lights and (fake?) plants which made the restraint comfortable. by the way u can sit indoor or outside, and i think that both chooses are good. as a minus i wanted to add that the menu was in italian ( probably? ) and i had to guess what there is written ( my phone translator weren’t able to translate it because of an unknown reason ). to sum, i rate the restaurant five stars, but of course there are some minuses as in every other restaurant.

This was a really cool find on the coast of Ostia. We decided to visit for lunch after our morning walk through the ruins of the ancient port. It was a great decision. If anything, for the atmosphere. I really love the interior dining area with all the hanging plants. It was quite lovely. We were greeted as we walked through the terrace to the entryway. I think it had just opened for lunch because there were only a few people seated. We had our pick of tables. The seating arrangement was comfortable. The service was good. It was a little detached, and that's okay. I like to have some interaction with the server, but that's not always possible when you're a tourist in a new place. We chose this restaurant more for the varied menu. Ostia is full of seafood, and my husband is more of a land lover. He ordered the Diavola from the Pinse & Roman Pizza side of the menu. I selected the Paccheri from the Pasta first course side. We shared an appetizer of Fritto Misto while waiting for the meal. We especially loved the fried ascolane olives & supplì (filled with rice, tomato sauce, and mozzarella). These were very tasty. The Paccheri sauce (carbonara) and seafood (mussels, clams, & octopus) was absolutely delicious. The pasta was a little too al dente for me. I think it's preferred that way in some regions. I forgot to ask them to cook it longer. It's a thicker pasta, so I didn't really know. My husband's pizza looked wonderful. He appeared to enjoy it. I'll let him write his own review. I would definitely revisit if ever in Lido di Ostia again. There were so many great options on the menu with affordable prices. It appears to be a popular restaurant. There weren't many seats left indoor or outdoor as we were leaving. The cooler weather in the month of May was perfect. It was a beautiful day!

Not bad. Food was pretty alright. Pizza made fresh. House white wine could have been colder. The atmosphere was nice though. Enjoyed sitting out side and people watching while eating. Good place for groups. Pet friendly as well. The flower sellers that kept coming by were very annoying though.

Good place in town. Staffs are relatively nice, unless it is a super busy time, you might see the missing smiles. Food is dope. The only thing that was unpleasant for me was the sand in Vongole, it is perhaps inevitable but that wasn’t a good texture.
Wood W — Google review
If we’re talking about the ambiance, it’s a nice place, but… We ordered pasta cacio e pepe and pasta pomodoro e basilico. The cacio e pepe was served quite cold, while the pomodoro e basilico was really hot. The pomodoro e basilico was a miss — it tasted almost unseasoned. The cacio e pepe was just okay; I’ve had much better. I’ll definitely choose a different place next time. As for the service… the staff — especially the ladies — seemed more focused on fixing their hair and taking selfies than on attending to guests.
Jacek W — Google review
Was really looking forward to this spot but it was a disappointment. The staff were so inattentive it bordered on us being ignored even we tried to get their attention It took 20 mins to even get our drink order taken. And only as we flagged someone down. The food was ok. In our party we had gnocchi Ragu, pizza, chicken and a pasta dish. The pasta dish was forgotten, and then came out like warm about 15 minutes later, it was pretty bland. The chicken we asked for broccoli and got spinach. The plants were cool. But it was a bit of a flat let down to be honest. They also overcharged us on service too.

Park
Ostia Antica is an ancient Roman harbor city located at the meeting point of the River Tiber and the sea. It is renowned as one of Italy's most well-preserved archaeological sites, offering a glimpse into its cosmopolitan past where various gods were worshipped in its shrines. The site features beautifully preserved architectural remains such as mosaic pavements, warehouses, apartment buildings, merchants' houses, taverns, baths, and a theater.
Definitely one of the highlights of my trip to Italy. Ostia Antica is the original port of Rome situated approximately fourteen miles from the centre of Rome. This is better archaeological park to visit than the Roman Forum in my opinion, the park is bigger, better preserved and a lot quieter. There are lots of great examples of how how life was lived back in those times including a remarkably well preserved Roman amphitheatre. Highly recommend.

Great ancient place without the crowds and pleasant escape from the city of Rome. It is a marvelous example of the whole port of Ostia that existed here 2700 years ago. Definitely worth it and it’s free. You have to book the tickets online if you travel with a school and show a letter of the school with children personal data and the signature of the director of the school. It takes 2-3 hours minimum of the sightseeing, so take that into account. There is a cafe and a gift shop inside the ancient ruins 😊

A must see for any fans of ancient Rome (or ancient cities in general). You can see most of it within a day, but expect quite a bit of walking. There are toilets and fresh water points available throughout the site. Near the museum, in the norther part of the city, you can also get something to eat. The entry costs 18euro, but certain groups are eligible for a free entry. The audio guide, costs additional 7euro, but I wouldn't say it is super necessary. It gives some additional information, but there are multiple signs, both in Italian and English, across the site, that explain pretty well what you are looking at. Just be sure to get the map of the site beforehand to plan your route! Everything was giving me similar vibes as when visiting Pompei. Some things might be better preserved there, but Ostia is much more friendly to visit without a guide.

Really reccomamded!! You dive into 2000 years ago in a magical Roman Empire contest. The beauty of Roman architecture, houses, roads, harbour, thermal areas, theatre, markets. Simply beautiful. The Park is in perfect condition. A big Parking available. I reccomand to book a guide. (Sinopie).

Very cool place to visit! Easy to do if you’re in the area of the airport, lots of parking available at the entrance. Tickets are 18€ for adults which is a bit steep, however you can easily spend an entire day here if you like. Highly recommend you bring food and drinks as there is not a lot of shade. There is a cafeteria in the city, but it was closed when we visited. If you visit this with a wheelchair or baby stroller, it is possible to go through the main road. But, most of the road is old roman cobble stones. Which are not easy. Some paths are paved, we just wished they are linked together more as it would increase the possibilities for people to visit the city. Still would recommend this to anyone to visit!

Great to get the feeling you are setting foot in an ancient Roman city. Not too crowded. I felt more in tune with the history than in the Forum Romanum. It’s best to get a map, because directions in the park aren’t so clear.

Don’t tell everyone—let them all go to Pompeii, while we enjoy the fully preserved Roman town of Ostia Antica in peace. With hardly any tourists, it offers a quiet, pleasant atmosphere you can explore all day—or even for several days, since the ticket allows unlimited entry for eight days.
Eska S — Google review
We stopped at the ruins of this ancient city on our way in to Rome. This place is a massive excavation site of an old Roman city. Unbelievable that you can walk on the streets from a time so long ago. Absolutely worth the stop if you’re a history nerd like me. Give yourself lots of time, as this place is huge. We had only 2 hours and we barely scratched the surface.

Located in Bracciano, 30 kilometers northwest of Rome, the Orsini-Odescalchi Castle is a grand 15th-century fortress that offers guided tours of its lavishly decorated rooms and houses a museum. The castle sits on the shores of Lake Bracciano, also known as Lago di Bracciano or Sabatino, making it convenient to visit both attractions together.
Amazing old castle, with an authentic atmosphere. Not like anything I have seen before, where the castles are refurbished and totally redesigned. This one keeps the old atmosphere. Also, the views are incredible, the castle is surrounded by a lake. Will definitely come back and it definitely worth the visit.

I didn't know much about this place and my expectations weren't high, but my family and I enjoyed it very much. The castle has a panoramic tower that has an observation view of the entire lake. If you're around - Don't hesitate.
Tomer Y — Google review
Having visited hundreds of castles and museums this one totally blew our minds. Ten euros to get in. Use your phone to get a free video/audio guide in Italian or English or take their guided tours. And then go. Takes about 1h to 1.5 hours to visit it all but it really is spectacular and gives a real sense of what life was like. The audio guide is awesome. One tip: download the video so you can watch it on your phone as sometime you might have connectivity issues due to the thick walls. The views of the lake are also breathtaking. Wish they'd open a café on the lawn but that's just coffee addiction speaking 😂😁

Visiting Castello di Bracciano is a lovely experience, but be ready for a bit of steep walking up. After the Belvedere, you cross a small bridge and buy tickets. Tip for families: use the bathroom right after purchasing tickets! We skipped it, and when my son needed to pee mid-tour, we had to walk all the way back down to the entrance—not easy with two kids. Inside, the castle feels spacious, atmospheric, and rich in history. Don’t expect original furniture, but the recreated rooms, paintings, and especially the collection of weapons, armors, swords, and pistols kept my little one fascinated. The panoramic views from the castle are stunning and worth every step. We went on a quiet Easter Friday, with mild weather, and it was perfect—not crowded, not too hot or cold. I would recommend visiting in spring or autumn, as summer heat would make the outdoor sections uncomfortable. Overall, a beautiful visit with kids, full of history, atmosphere, and great views.

Beautiful Castle tucked away in the Italian countryside. We made this stop on our way towards Rome. We wanted to break up the trip to Rome and this stop was, so worth it. Beautiful architecture, unbelievable that we were allowed nearly everywhere inside the castle. Amazing pieces of artwork. Blows my mind the amount of history in the area.

Perched high above the tranquil waters of Lake Bracciano in Italy, castello Orsini-Odescalchi is one of the most impressive Renaissance-era castles in the country. Built in the 15th century by the powerful Orsini family, it was later inherited by the noble Odescalchi family, who still own it today. Over the centuries, it has hosted popes, kings, and generals, including Pope Sixtus IV and King Charles VIII of France. It is very well-preserved and now functions as a museum, featuring period furnishings, ancient weapons, frescoes, and artworks that offer a glimpse into noble life during the Middle Ages and Renaissance. It is also a sought-after venue for high-profile weddings, famously hosting the marriage of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes in 2006. Well worth a visit, €10 entrance, and an hour on the slow train from Rome.

Italian Air Force Museum

Army museum
Museums
Museum tracing the history of Italian military aviation, with more than 60 aircraft, plus artifacts.
Super museum celebrating the history of Italian aviation. Each hangar goes through the years to the latest fighter jets. Great to see MK805 a Spitfire originally delivered to the RAF which flew sorties at the end of WW2.
Nick R — Google review
A really cool museum worth visiting any time of the year. In the summer you can escape the heat and in winter - the rain. Entrance is 10 EUR and there are 5 hangers to visit. You can roam around freely, read the info for each aircraft (Italian and English) and really take your time. I would recommend at least 2 hours, and if you really like planes there are even more rooms to visit for free around the area (like the engine room). Please note: When you enter the area and pass the gate - on your right there is a building which IS NOT the Museum but rather the gift shop (and toilet). For the museum, continue with the road down and drive until all the way to reach the Parking. From there it isn't a 2 min walk to the museum entrance. Enjoy! 🙂
Oh G — Google review
Make sure to not miss the gift shop that’s right at the exit. As for getting there, there is an option for a 3 km walk or you can take a taxi, if you don’t speak Italian you can ask at the desk for a taxi to be called for you, there are buses that go there but it it very confusing. Make sure to try the flight simulator that’s labelled “magazino” , anyways, great museum and an awesome scenic view, cheap and nice cafe with good food, you can buy tickets there so there is no need for online booking, mostly just about getting there.

My son and Ivisited the Italian Air Force museum, and the ticket was only €10, offering incredible value for money. There're some beautiful souvenir items in the entrance front desk. The museum itself boasts an impressive collection of fighter jets, and the stunning lakeside scenery outside the museum was an unexpected highlight. The flight simulator in Pavilion 6 was exceptionally professional and enjoyable—definitely worth trying. What truly touched me was the incredible kindness and professionalism of the military personnel. My son accidentally dropped his phone into the simulator’s mechanism while using it, and the staff went above and beyond to help us retrieve it. I am deeply grateful for their assistance and patience despite the inconvenience we caused. This visit was not only fun but also heartwarming. I highly recommend it!

Lake Bracciano, located 30 kilometers northwest of Rome, is a popular destination known for its clear waters and tranquil surroundings. The lake has been supplying fresh water to Rome for almost 2000 years and remains one of the least polluted lakes in Italy. It is a favorite spot for sailing, swimming, and scuba diving. Surrounding the lake are hotels and the renowned Castello Orsini-Odescalchi, dating back to the 15th century.
A very beautiful lake you must visit. The surroundings are also beautiful with lots of activities to do such as taking a walk by the lake or swim or even paddle boarding or fishing and many other activities. There is a kids playing area in addition to plenty of affordable paid parking if you want to park close to the lake. The lake is surrounded by a number of good restaurants and bars, which add more excitement. I always go there on Sundays, and every time I go there, there is a small flea market that sells many things. Furthermore, the lake is gorgeous in September. there is nothing that spoils the lakes view and is perfect to enjoy nature and peace of mind.

Must visit; not only for the lake but also the beautiful surroundings of the lake where you can hike or stop and eat etc. The lake itself was clean and peaceful and it’s the second largest lake in the region and one of the major lakes in Italy( it’s a volcanic lake by origin) and for the first time I saw a type of rat that I’ve never seen before there eating rice😅: Nutria (Myocastor coypus), also known as the coypu. On Fridays, you have open market very close to the lake where you buy jewelry, bags etc. You can find parking space for cars but most parkings are payment(not that much) except you park for free a little away from the lake and then take your time and walk to the lake

The Palazzo dei Papi di Viterbo, also known as the Papal Palace, is a stunning example of Gothic architecture in the Lazio region. Built between 1255 and 1266 to house popes seeking refuge in Viterbo, it features decorative stonework and frescoes that showcase its historical significance. The palace's elegant seven-arched loggia and a charming courtyard with city views make it a must-see attraction.

The Palazzo dei Papi is one of Viterbo’s most important monuments, built when Pope Alexander IV (1254-1261) moved the papal curia to Viterbo in 1257 and had the former bishop’s palace expanded. The palace includes the famous Aula del Conclave, which hosted the longest papal election in history, lasting about 33 months! You and get a ticket, and audio guide, for a very reasonable €10 which gives you access to the museum, cathedral and Palazzo. The audio tour is very detailed and a map is provided which shows the main points of the locations.

The Papal Palace in Viterbo hosts an exhibition that captures the first conclave (literally "under lock and key") that was held starting in 1268AD and took nearly three years to select the new Pope. That was Gregory X, who then ordered that the conclave method be used for future selection. It's very well done, including multilanguage commentary, VR, and animation to tell the story, and a must visit for History buffs and for Catholics interested in key stages in the development of the church.

Every September, the charming city of Viterbo comes alive with vibrant festivities dedicated to its patron saint, Santa Rosa. The highlight of these celebrations is the awe-inspiring Macchina di Santa Rosa, a towering structure that stands at an impressive 30 meters and weighs over five tons. This magnificent creation is carried through the city's streets by around 100 dedicated porters known as Facchini.

(Translated by Google) The "machine of S.Rosa" is a tower with a statue of S.Rosa, protector of the city, on the top, carried on the shoulders by the "porters". It is one of the most important attractions of Viterbo which attracts tens of thousands of tourists and citizens on September 3rd of each year (transport day). It involves moving this tower along a pre-established route that crosses the heart of the city and is preceded by flag-wavers and musical bands. All in homage to the Saint as a sign of devotion. The beauty and emotional transport as well as amazement of those who see it is indescribable, therefore I invite you to see it at least once and then you will see that you will come back! For the event I advise you to book a hotel or B&B well in advance and to inform yourself well because if you don't organize in time you might not enjoy the event. Therefore I advise you to consider a holiday in which in addition to transport, you can enjoy our medieval quarter, the beauty of our churches and the Papal Palace and why not also our spas. This exquisite complex features meticulously manicured lawns, elegant hedges, and an array of enchanting fountains that create a serene atmosphere. The centerpiece is a magnificent statue crafted by Giambologna, adding to the artistic allure of the gardens.
Villa Lante, Viterbo – A Hidden Gem of Italian Garden Design Villa Lante in Bagnaia (near Viterbo) is an absolute must-visit for lovers of Renaissance architecture, stunning gardens, and intricate water features. This 16th-century villa, designed by the legendary architect Giacomo Barozzi da Vignola, is a masterpiece of Italian Mannerist garden design. The real highlight here is the breathtaking garden rooms, each with its own unique design and layout, perfectly integrated with the natural landscape. The water features are truly spectacular—flowing fountains, cascades, and carefully designed waterworks create a sense of harmony and elegance. The Fountain of the Moors and the famous water chain that runs down the terraces are particularly mesmerizing. While the villa itself is smaller than some grand palaces, the two symmetrical casini (small lodges) add to its charm, adorned with beautiful frescoes and offering panoramic views of the gardens. The entire site feels peaceful and enchanting, making it perfect for a leisurely stroll. Opening Hours & Ticket Prices (as of 2025): • Opening Times: Usually open Tuesday–Sunday, from 8:30 AM – 7:30 PM (last entry at 6:45 PM). Villa Lante is an underrated jewel of central Italy, perfect for a relaxing day trip from Rome or Florence. A true paradise for history and garden lovers alike! Highly recommended.

The garden is on constructions.. It's not that clean and organized that we were expected it to be.. You have a really big potential to be an amazing place that's for now it's not like that.. We waited about half an hour to get in it because it was really windy day and they decided to open it on time.
Rachel R — Google review
It is still being renovated and only one fountain is working but the expected time of completion is May 2026 so, for now, the tickets have been reduced to 5 euro

Has real potential but the majority is closed for renovation which is why the ticket is reduced to 5 euros. The contractors have fenced off the majority of the garden so our visit was short. I would suggest managing expectations vs the historic photos you see. You may want to wait until the work is completed before visiting. Once the work is done I’m sure it will be fantastic

Even one star is too much. Almost everything here is closed off, but they still charge you 5€ for admission. We asked at the entrance if what was left to see was wheelchair accessible. They said that the gardens were and the buildings ground floor. A bad joke. You can't even get into the two remaining open rooms or the last open plateau in the garden, with the last water fountain. We were really looking forward to the villa, since very little in Italy is wheelchair accessible anyway. I’m just sad and disappointed.

During my recent trip to the charming town of Viterbo, I had the pleasure of exploring the renowned Renaissance garden of Villa Lante in Bagnaia. Covering an area of approximately four hectares, the garden is spread across three main terraces and is considered one of the most famous Renaissance gardens in the world. The garden's most notable feature is its unique "prospect garden" design, which creates an illusion of depth and perspective through the strategic use of fountains, water features, and architectural elements. Walking through the garden, I couldn't help but be struck by the stunning beauty of the meticulously manicured hedges, colorful flower beds, and intricate stonework. As I made my way through the garden's winding paths and hidden corners, I discovered a variety of fascinating features and surprises, including hidden grottos, whimsical sculptures, and breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. It was easy to see why Villa Lante is one of the most visited attractions in Tuscia, with approximately 85,000 visitors per year. Overall, my visit to Villa Lante was a truly unforgettable experience, and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Viterbo. Whether you are an art lover, a history buff, or simply someone who appreciates the beauty of nature, the garden's stunning design, intricate details, and serene ambiance are sure to leave you spellbound.

Villa Farnese (Palazzo Farnese), Caprarola If the Sistine Chapel leaves you awestruck and exhausted by the crowds, come to Villa Farnese. This place delivers the same jaw-dropping “how did humans paint all this?” feeling—without the shoulder-to-shoulder shuffle. Room after room is wrapped in frescoes, stucco, and symbolism; you feel the years of craft in every ceiling and cornice. The highlight for me is the Map Room: a wraparound atlas of the known world that reads like a Renaissance data wall. Stand in the center and you can imagine cardinals and captains reading coastlines, trade winds, and borders—more than decoration, it feels like a political and strategic dashboard of its day. I loved spotting details like “Scandia,” “Nova Spagna,” and a portrait labeled Marcus Polus watching over the cartography—tiny windows into how they saw the world. Other moments that stay with you: the elegant helical staircase (perfectly proportioned, endlessly photogenic), the grand salons with mythological ceilings that pull your eyes upward, and the serene courtyards that reset your senses between fresco marathons. Even the approach is cinematic—the palace rising above the town like a stage set. Practical bits: it’s far less crowded than Rome’s headline sights, so you can linger and actually look. Give yourself time; every wall rewards patience. Comfortable shoes help, and a weekday morning is ideal. Bottom line: wildly underrated and absolutely bucket-list worthy. Villa Farnese is history, art, and power—painted across stone—and one of the most satisfying cultural visits I’ve had in Italy.

Amazing place of great art, culture and architecture. A symbol of the Farnese political and religious dominance in the region. Definitely worth a day trip.

Beautiful palace. The last room with the maps is a gem! Crazy to see such a good representation of the world from 500 years ago so well preserved.

Fantastic, everyone should visit Caprarola just to explore this place. No crowds when we visited. Takes around 2 -2.5 hours to explore both inside and the extensive grounds outside. Make sure to wander right to the end to see the water features and statues there. There are many rooms to wander through but the map room is certainly one to spend time in. Would highly recommend to everyone.

Parco Valle del Treja is a regional park that encompasses the wooded area around Calcata and Mazzano Romano. The park features hiking and horse-riding trails, ancient archaeological sites, and nature trails. Visitors can explore the forested slopes marked by waterfalls and ruins of ancient settlements.
Here is the miracle that i have ever encountered in life, Calcata Village, the so-called “village of artists” and many cats, a village with fewer than a thousand inhabitants and culturally active, is like jumping back into the Middle Ages. That well i see furniture restoration, leather crafts, ceramics, glass, art studios, and jewellery-making. Many quaint places sell tea and coffee, good wines, traditional or alternative foods.

Beautiful old village with scenic views at every turn. We went in August- it was very hot and some businesses were closed, but most were actually still open. Only a handful of tourists, so we had the place almost to ourselves (and the cats- they are everywhere). Take you time to see the view from every nook and overlook. CON: If you have a baby/stroller, you may need to rethink this place. I have a 5 month old and we made it work, but there was a lot of huffing and puffing on the walking trail from the parking lot to the town (lots of steps). Also, the streets are made with very rough cobble stones and it was quite rough for the little one.

Lovely. I imagine it's far more colourful from mid- February and a great cool spot in summer.

Full of American tourists taking selfies and nearly falling into the valley: Totally spoils the place. Impossible parking. Road half blocked. Angry Roman drivers shouting at each other who should pass first. Massive BMW motorbikes parked selfishly blocking pedestrians on the road in. Otherwise, ... if you can get in ... otherwise... it's very a nice place and the restaurants are great.
