We went for a walk in a park. Parking area is not that large, but the park is very picturescue. Enjoyed good 2 hours while slowly takkng in all the beauty around us. Family ticket (2 adults +2 kids) costed us 4,50 eur
Vita B — Google review
An absolutely underestimated place! We came around just to fulfill our free time, not expecting much. But there’s so much too see! And the entry fee is just 2eur! Someday we’ll book a picknick table for a larger summer event.
Uldis K — Google review
Tour (English, latviešu, русский) that will last for about 2 hours. Enjoy a walk in a park with the family. Recommended for all nature lovers and history nerds.
Artis Z — Google review
It was OK. We enjoyed the tour. Orientation game outside would have been better. Nethertheless, a lot useful information and interesting workshop made the tour enjoyable. Although the lady at the counters seemed hostile and beautiful chained dog ar the entrance disappointed me.
Eva V — Google review
Nice, beautiful place to relax, nice garden, near is cafe where you can get a drink and downstairs you can swim in Daugava

Ruins of a Livonian Order castle built in stages from 1443 & a later palace above the river.
Overall an incredible experience. I really appreciate my journalism credentials were honoured. It wasn’t very crowded and despite the crappy weather day, it was still a very interesting visit. Every room has English translations on a placard or a booklet. The only exceptions are the placards on the old ruins lawn outside. The whole wearing of the shoe covers was confusing at first as there was no instructions as to when they were to be put on. Amazing views from the tower.
Jennifer S — Google review
This really old castle is located by the former main road and river. It's a very well restored location. There is still work to do but they are very far. It's more that worth to visit it. To the top of the tower is 85 steps one way. We enjoyed it very much.
Jörg E — Google review
Far from where tourists go but the place has a big history that's well explained. Most signs are strictly in Latvian though, some are translated into English. Be prepared to go up and down some steep stairs.
Leo G — Google review
An interesting and heavily restored castle. History of the owners of the castle and their furniture, dress and military. Nice climb up the tower which gives great views of the town €4.50 for seniors
Julia — Google review
Passed Bauska for so many years 😬 and only now visited the castle - it was definitely worth it 🤩. A relatively small but beautiful castle, which was built in the middle of the 15th century by the Livonian Order in this place to strengthen its influence in Zemgale. Currently, the castle has been partially restored, other surviving parts have been preserved, and a museum is open. To get around the nearby territory and inside - it was about 3.7 km.
PJ L — Google review
Must to visit place, a beautiful castle located in memorising landscape. Perfect place for Instagram photos, don't miss the largde bauska photo frame in the river side. Highly recommended place to spend time.
Manisankar K — Google review
Another beautifully restored castle with well though out presentations offering glimpse into the life of germanborn in Baltics during the fellowship centuries.

We chose not to go inside and wanted to see the castle from the outside; we were on a tour and had 45 min at this stop. It is peaceful and quite beautiful. May 2025

Restored 18th century baroque castle with ornamental gardens & museum showcasing palace history.
It’s a hidden gem in Latvia. The palace is in really good condition, mostly thanks to the hard work of the restorers. Many rooms are open to visitors, including the duke’s and duchess’s bedrooms and bathrooms — definitely worth seeing. It’s usually not very crowded on weekdays. You can use an audio guide and access detailed room descriptions on your phone.

Perhaps the jewel of Latvia. The palace is in really good condition, thanks to everyone's hard work. The gardens are certainly kept in immaculate condition. Beautiful, rich collection, friendly staff, almost no tourists in November yet highly operational. Interesting to see powder rooms and toilet closets. Impressive collection of “ household” peaces. Wonderful cafe switch beautiful service. Food served in aristocratic dish-ware. The clock outside is restarted with beautiful music playing at each hour with the sound stretching through whole yard yard. Very happy with our visit.

The Baltic Versailles! Amidst the vast fields and meadows of Zemgale (Semgallen) stands the most beautiful baroque palace in the Baltic States: the Rundāles Pils (Rundāle Palace). The palace was commissioned by Ernst Johann Biron, the lover of Tsarina Anna Ivanova who bestowed him the Duchy of Courland and Semigallia. The famous Italian architect Bartolomeo Rastrelli designed and built a palace inspired by Versailles. Since the Duke was exiled to Siberia by his political enemies in 1740, the construction of the palace took place in two phases. During the first phase (1736-40) the palace itself was built, and during the second phase (1765-68) the furnishing of 138 rooms and halls was completed. During the Latvian War of Independence in 1919, the palace was badly damaged. In 1933, the palace was restored/rebuilt when a school was established. After the Rundāle Palace Museum was founded in 1972, a thorough and long-term restoration was immediately started, which was only completed in 2015. Thanks to this restoration, the palace once again radiates its 18th century grandeur, which visitors can admire in 40 rooms and halls. In addition to the magnificent interior, the French gardens are certainly worth a visit. So all in all, Rundāle Palace is a destination that should not be missed on your itinerary!

Amazing place! Worth the drive from Riga. We enjoyed it very much! Unfortunately rainy weather stopped us from going to their beautiful gardens. A lot of visitors even on weekday.

Really glad we decided to drive and visit Rundāle Palace. If you had a car - don't skip this easy day trip from Riga. The gardens are beautiful - and it's aways interesting to see intricate buildings preserved. Impressive! We spent about 2.5 hours here in total. We visited on a Wednesday and bought tickets when we got there.

The Rundale Palace in Latvia was built in the 18th century. Though originally built as a palace it was used for various purposes including a school. In 1972 the palace and the surrounding gardens was established as a museum. It has 40 rooms exhibiting furniture, decorative pieces, paintings including painted ceilings. Very impressive from outside and inside, one of the most well preserved palaces in the world. The French garden adds to the charm of the palace. Ticket can be purchased together for the palace and the garden. We visited it on a "Tour and Transfer" from Riga To Vilnius. Highly recommend it.
Soudamini M — Google review
The Palace of amazing beauty 🤩🥰 with a large French park nearby. The beginning of the palace dates back to the 16th century, although Rundale Manor is mentioned from the 15th century. To walk the main paths in the garden, inside the palace - will be about 6.2 km, and if you explore all the passages of the garden it will be more of km. 🙃 and you should dedicate at least 3.5 hours (you can run around faster, but it is better to walk slower 🙃). The price for an adult to visit all the places is 23 €, but you can also visit the garden and palace for 17 €, but then you will not enter one of the palace "wing" with another exposition. If you have already arrived at the place and have an opportunity - it is definitely worth visiting all possible places.

Jelgava St. Trinity Church Tower

Sights & Landmarks
Tourist information center
Churches & Cathedrals
Perfect view on Jelgava FROM above on a sunny day, a bench under glass roof, but don't expect anything special
Oleg M — Google review
Little museum consentrated on different aspects of history- history of St.Trinity church, History of Jelgava and more. Museum exhibits are interactive and they have thought about children aswell accessability. Tower has elevator to move up and down. You still have to open the door to get into exhibition room and use glass staircase to get to city viewing area just under the glass roof. This may be an issue for some people. On top floor you can enjoy Jelgava city views through glass roof. Interesting place to visit. Not too time consuming unless you go through absolutely everything. Then it can take hours. Lady in the ticket office while I visited was really friendly and helpful.
Eiliki P — Google review
The crown jewel of the city. The tower has the best city views, the story of this important Latvian city, an excellent example of a romantic cafe (the best cafe ever for my very well travelled friend) with outstanding food and service, fun interactive galleries (try wedding clothes or period jewellery!), and paintings by Latvian artists.
Mira S — Google review
Not much to see there! The digital expositions are just ok. The view of the city at the top is not any great as the metal structure and the glasses disturb the view. Pictures are not worth up there, as you can see in one of my pics. Just the outside view of the tower is interesting.
Paulo V — Google review
The Jelgava St. Trinity Church Tower is a charming historical site with a lot of character. Climbing to the top rewards you with fantastic panoramic views of Jelgava and the surrounding area. The tower is well-maintained, and the staff are friendly and helpful, sharing interesting details about the church’s history. It can be a bit crowded during peak hours, but the experience is worth it for both the views and the insight into local history. A lovely spot for visitors exploring Jelgava!
Sarah S — Google review
I didn't expect this place to be so interesting! There are only 4 floors of thd tower open but each floor has a room with something interesting to find out. There is a floor dedicated to the city history, the church and Jelgava fashion. The 9th floor is a cosy place made of glass where you can seat and enjoy the view of the city. The 8th floor is the restaurant. The entrance fee for adults is 2.50€. There is WC and the elevator. Do spend some time in each room: it's worth it, especially the fashion room. They show a short video about fashion changing through the years. Recommended for visiting 💯%
Julia M — Google review
Beautifully renovated tower. On the top you can oversee the whole city through the glass roof. On some levels exhibitions. While on the level with clocks you will find great restaurant. During lunch hours you can try simple, but very interesting lunch offers. In the evenings you can have nice dinner. Tasty choices for vegetarians. Interior fabulous.
Arvis V — Google review
Nice view on the observation deck of the tower on the 9th floor. Only $1 euro per person to take elevator up. We took the stairs down to visit the gallery and had lunch on the 8th floor. Beautiful decor and relaxing atmosphere. The frog legs, snails & mussels were all yummy.

Beautiful downtown church with a blue and white exterior and a pink and blue heavily decorated interior. When I visited on a Friday, the church was completely open and free to look around.
Matt B — Google review
Absolutely stunning church. The blue domes are beautiful from the outside, but the real magic is inside... 😍 full of rich colours, gold details, and peaceful energy.
Bintang T — Google review
Stunning orthodox church with a sad story. The church traces its history to 1710, when Peter the Great, Tsar of Russia, arranged the marriage of his niece Anna to Frederick William, Duke of Courland. The duke promised to build an Orthodox church in Jelgava (then known as Mitau), his capital, but his premature death prevented this. Anna wanted to get married in this church that was yet to be built.

Extremely beautiful temple - inside and outside! It's also nice that they let you take pictures inside, which I could not in others!!...

Ķemeri National Park, situated near Jurmala, is a vast nature reserve with diverse ecosystems and wildlife. The park boasts numerous rivers and lakes that contribute to its expansive landscape. Visitors can explore the historical Kemeri Park with Water Tower, which has been restored to its former glory after extensive reconstruction in 2021.
Just an hour’s drive from Riga is Ķemeri National Park. Established in 1997, this 381.65 km2 park, the third largest in Latvia, consists mainly of forests (57%), peatlands (24%) and bodies of water – lakes, rivers, sulphur springs and sea (10%). Two locations are definitely worth a visit: Lake Kaņieris, a Ramsar site, is exceptionally rich in waterfowl, and the lake-flecked Great Ķemeri Bog. Ķemeri National Park is a true paradise for nature lovers.

Amazing place! Beautiful wooden boardwalks through the bog, a scenic tower with stunning views, fresh air and peaceful silence. Especially magical at sunrise. Easy to reach from Riga. In summer, bring mosquito spray. A perfect spot to experience Latvia’s nature. Highly recommend!

This is for us the most beautiful place in all Latvia. Such a peaceful walk full of birds singing and spectacular nature. I could walk here for hours and not get tired of it.
Silvia B — Google review
Beautiful and peaceful. An hour long walk through beautiful forest and bog. To parents with small kids - the path is too narrow to walk with a stroller, leave it in the car.
Jānis R — Google review
A great place for a day trip from Riga or a peaceful stop along the way, offering a pleasant walk in beautiful nature. The paths are well-kept, with benches available here and there to rest, and a viewing tower to take in the surroundings.
Kasia C — Google review
Excellent walking trails. €3/hr parking is very expensive thou. Make sure you bring some insect repellents ☝️
Oleg A — Google review
This is one of those places that i was told is “all over instagram and you have to go”. Its quite a nice walk through the forest and then along the planks of wood that just keep you above the boggy water. Eventually you will reach a viewing platform where the view was amazing. Why i have rated this 4 stars is due to the public toilets. There are 4 portable style toilets at the parking and one not too much further into the forest. These toilets were a disgrace. The smell and cleanliness of these were disgusting and ruined the overall experience. Pointer….. go to the toilet before going

Ķemeri sulfur spring Ķirzaciņa (Little Lizard)

Ķemeri sulfur spring Ķirzaciņa, also known as the Little Lizard, is a popular attraction in the Kemeri resort. The spring water is said to be potable and has health benefits. Visitors can fill their bottles at the stone sculpture of the Lizard located at the mouth of the spring. A wooden carved gazebo with a small well showcases the sixth open hydrogen sulfide spring in Kemeri.
Nice park to walk around and explore. There is the gazebo that you can climb up and get a view of the area, and during the warmer months, you can go even higher (red tower is open). It does smell like rotten eggs (it's a sulfur spring after all), and the water also tastes like it according to a colleague, so try at your own risk.

(Translated by Google) 🌏The Lizard hydrogen sulfide spring is one of the most famous objects of the Kemeri resort since the end of the 19th century. Next to the spring, which was the sixth open hydrogen sulfide spring in Ķemeri, a wooden carved gazebo was built with a small well in which a spring flows. It was originally decorated with a sculpture of a boy on a dolphin, which was destroyed during the First World War. All that was left of it then was the head of a dolphin, from whose open mouth the water of the spring flowed in the 20-30s. This dolphin is immortalized on the coat of arms of the city of Kemeri. During the Second World War, the dolphin's head was lost and in 1949 the spring was decorated with the sculpture “Lizard”. As you know, Kemeri was and is still famous for its hydrogen sulfide springs. 30 springs flow into the Virshpute River. One of these springs called “Lizard” is located in the park. Hydrogen sulfide water flows out of the “lizard’s” mouth, which has a specific smell and taste. The remaining water flows into the river. P.S.: According to legend, the number of times you wash in this source will make you look younger by so many years. Don't go to the cuckoo. What is certain is that the skin softens and tightens after washing.

(Translated by Google) After the reconstruction of the park, I began to come here quite often just for a walk. Great place for a family vacation. The water spring is working. People take water with them and drink on the spot. Some people just wash their face. The smell is appropriate. In the gazebo in the well you can look at the dirt, this is hardly a planned exhibit, but alas, the reality is that we have a lot of dirt.

All day activities. Famous for flower displays. A lot off stories about history, spooky stories, only adults special trip to attic (only weekend). Good for family, good for lovers, good for pensioners. Downside, food only at far end off estate.

We were disappointed with our recent visit to Pakruojis Manor. Compared to our visit three years ago, when everything felt magical and beautifully maintained, this time it was underwhelming. The little island that used to have romantic swings, dreamcatchers, and freely hopping rabbits is now empty and lifeless. All those charming touches were gone. Despite the €20 ticket price per person, the experience didn’t live up to our expectations. Sadly, it seems the place has lost much of its former charm.
Sanita — Google review
You arrive on Saturday for an overnight stay with massages, and then you're told there's a BBQ evening and all the spots are taken — and that there's no other restaurant in the whole manor where you could get food. They just suggest you go eat somewhere else :) Yes, we did receive an email a few days before the visit saying we could reserve a spot for the BBQ evening, but it wasn't mentioned that without that, there would be nowhere else to eat. The price, of course, is sky-high, and honestly, it shouldn't be like this — you pay for a stay at a manor, you arrive, and end up going hungry. There wasn’t even a place to get a drink. The cherry on top — the Miller’s House isn’t actually part of the Pakruojis Manor territory, so if you want to visit it, you have to pay extra :) We paid, only to find out the event was already over and the area was about to close. But they told us it was fine, and we could come back Sunday and the tickets would still be valid. What they didn’t say is that the gates wouldn’t open in the morning, and half of the attractions inside would be closed. The sculpture area was also quite tasteless. The rooms were super small and nowhere near as impressive as in the photos. I don’t know — the idea is fine, but they try to squeeze money out of you at every turn. It shouldn’t be this way. We paid, went to the massages, and then spent the whole evening sitting in a tiny room eating pizza because there was nowhere else to go.

Ended up paying for the double amount of tickets to the park than what I put in the cart, because after initiating a payment via one provider I decided to use another payment service. When I returned to the cart the amount of selected tickets doubled, which I haven’t noticed due to screen layout on the phone. Contacted the Pakruojo dvaras - the reply was “sorry, we have no means of refunding the tickets”. Good thing it wasn’t a big family trip, so I only overpaid 30 EUR instead of 100+. Definitely will not be visiting this place again.
Elina J — Google review
Good service, food was ok, bad that main building was closed an in the rooms were like 15 degrees cold, for 145 per night was not expecting that, radiators were cold. Parking on hard top was full, needed to park in grass area, bad that taking more people than they have facilities.
Janis G — Google review
We visited Pakruojo Dvaras with a family group of nearly 20 people, and the experience was extremely disappointing from beginning to end. Booking activities and the restaurant in advance was unnecessarily complicated. When we arrived, the issues continued. Some of our guests were late to lunch, and even though the restaurant was nearly empty, the staff were rude and complained, which made us feel unwelcome. Due to bad weather, we chose to skip the Flower Festival performances and instead go straight to the prepaid degustation event. To our shock, the staff refused to let us in unless we purchased Flower Festival tickets, even though the last performance of the day was happening at the same time as the degustation. We had already paid close to €200 and expected to pay €150 more, but they demanded over €450 extra. They wouldn’t let us attend the event we already paid for—and kept the money. We ended up leaving early. I had guests who came all the way from France, and this was not the experience I wanted for them. The staff seemed uninterested and unhelpful, despite the venue being mostly empty. Sadly, it felt like they were more focused on squeezing money out of us than actually providing a good experience. We felt scammed, disappointed, and completely let down. I cannot recommend this place to anyone.

LVM Nature Park in Tērvete

Theme park
Nature & Parks
Family-focused park with paths through old-growth pines & sculptures based on Latvian fairy tales.
A very cool place to spend a day with kids of all ages. We stayed for about 4 hours but covered half the park only. Would recommend a full day to cover all the great things they offer. Great facilities and cafes as well.

A very cool place for a walk with the kids. Lots of interesting and cute things to see, including a village built for dwarves and an observation tower. Walk the park or catch a handy train that regularly drives between five stops. The park is clean, well laid out and looks amazing. If you want children to have fun exploring outdoors, I can think of few better places in Latvia.

Huge park with scenic views, castles and hiking trails. Check that the wooden castle is open before arrival if you're planning on going there. Even if not going there are many reasons to visit and enjoy the beautiful nature surrounds the trails. Don't miss climbing the hill, unforgettable view! E.G. the way to arrive the park recommended as well 👌

Amazing!!! Especially if you know the story on which the park is based ( you can buy book in centre in 3 languages). Great for family's with kids, but there's a lot of walking. You need 1 whole day or even 2 if wanting to explore everything.

What a brilliant place to visit. It’s massive - we rented bikes from just outside the entrance, which were 15 Euro for a full day. We wouldn’t have been able to see nearly as much of the park without it. Dwarf village then dwarf city a good order to start. Fantastic playground, and in between we stopped at the lake for a swim as a hot August day. A full day type of place, and was a day well spent and would highly recommend!

Loved it!!! One of the best nature parks in Latvia for sure. It's big too, so easily few hours go by trying to explore it. I recommend walking it and then taking the little train around. They also rent bikes and little trailers you can use to pull the little ones on that might not be able to walk the distance.

This is a great place for younger children. My teenager and pre-teen also had lots of fun. A great walk in nature with lots of little guys and dwarf homes to play in. A nice park in one of the sections. Lots of different activities to do. We spent the whole day there. I would take a small backpack so you can carry your lunch with you but the cafes inside were reasonably priced. Our kids asked to return next summer to see what has been added. I didn’t find the petting zoo worth the cost. Most of the animals we sick and ill looking.

Hill of Crosses

Pilgrimage place
Sights & Landmarks
The Hill of Crosses in Lithuania is a significant Christian pilgrimage site and a symbol of peace, adorned with over 100,000 crosses that create a mesmerizing folk art display. The tradition of planting crosses on this low hill dates back to the 1831 Uprising and peaked during the 1960s as an act of defiance against anti-religious Soviet rule. Located near Jurgaiciai, it's easily accessible with clear directions on Google Maps.
It has an atmosphere of history. Feel it something different, special. But if you want just admiring art and handcraft you can also find that. The place huge and monumental in a way. Challenge your self!

An interesting and peculiar place where it seems that there is nothing, but there is a lot there. We also left our crosses there among the others as a memory. A popular place and the crowd kept coming, but it didn't interfere at all. In the souvenir shop, we were served by a lovely and nice young woman. It was an exciting and memorable visit.

The hill of crosses is a hill covered with over 250,000 crosses of every shape, size, and constitution. Today our group of 10 explored the collection of wood, metal, fabric and more crosses, rosaries and religious symbols. Several people brought more crosses, some purchased from the gift store near the information center, again in metal, wood and in various sizes. Several large crosses still stand but a few have fallen due to exposture to the elements. Crosses, rosaries, and special intention prayers from all over the world unite. Everyone seems to agree that house once stood here and was burnt by the Russians in 17th century. People began putting crosses here in mid 19th century either to praise God or to honor those killed in mid century uprisings against Tsarist Russia. In. 1961, Russians burned wood crosses and melted down metal ones. But the Hill of Crosses survives today with people bringing more crosses for praise, petition, remembrance. Some crosses bear words asking for world peace This is a peaceful, powerful stop for people of all faiths or with no Faith. The walk through the crosses can be steep and muddy and the view can be appreciated from any vantage point. At the parking entrance, a 5 minute walk, a open air gift shop offers amber jewelry, all types of small crosses, postcards and magnets. A smaller indoor gift store offers a selection of amber and jade items. The restroom costs Euro 1.

Such a unique pilgrimage spot. Visited as part of a guided tour. Incredible to see the amount of crosses everywhere, from the more modest crafted with two sticks, to the most elegantly sculpted.
Mona R — Google review
The folk legend is that the hill started because of a man with sick daughter, had a vision of Christ asking him to place a cross at this place. His daughter got better and word got around and people started putting crosses at the same place. After WW2, USSR was controlling the country and didn't allow religious beliefs. Didn't help that the crosses were placed for people who were killed in the uprising against USSR. The place was destroyed a few times but the resilience of Lithuanians continued to put back the crosses. This place became a pilgrimage in accordance to St James after Pope John Paul II visited the place. Watch the pics for his quote about Hill of crosses.

Churches & Cathedrals
The Saint Cathedral of the Apostles Peter and Paul, located in Siauliai, Lithuania, is a significant historical and architectural landmark. Dating back to the 17th century, this cathedral showcases a blend of Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque styles. Its richly decorated arches and columns on the front facade are truly captivating.
Very interesting catholic church, which was partly destroyed during wars, but now reconstructed. Our visit target was to see church tower. Lucky, we were on the right time when lithuanian tourist group was there and guide allowed us to join them. Unfortunately, guide talking only in lithuanian language, but thanks to one girl, who was translating partly guide story. Tower climb starts with very old rock stairs, then comes reconstructed part with steel stairs. Up in the tower, placed a lot of bells. Big ones, and more than 20 smaller bells, which are unique and sings in different tonalities. Nice view over yhe city.

The Siauliai Cathedral is one of the buildings that survived the bombing of the city during two World Wars. Children noticed the bell tower as a rocket from afar. They look harmonious with the building. The cathedral is a worthy decoration of the city. It looks great in contrast with the cloudy sky. There are Soviet soldiers' burials nearby. No one is going to move it.

"“Rūtos” šokolado muziejus" is a renowned venue that offers a blend of history exhibits, a modern restaurant, and a dessert shop. Located in the central part of the city within the century-old Ruta candy factory building, it was opened in 2012 to commemorate the factory's 99th anniversary. Visitors can savor delicious coffee, various desserts, and impressive chocolate bubble desserts at the café.
We had tour + workshop on weekend. Tour was interesting with mini video at the end 1 hour is enough to check everything. Workshop was very fun and delicious, highly recommend this activity!
Gabriele N — Google review
The museum is not big, very compact. The exhibits tell how and where cocoa beans grow, the biology of plants, the history of chocolate and the factory itself. At the entrance you have a tasty ticket - a small chocolate bar. You answer questions when you get acquainted with the museum exposition and at the exit you receive a chocolate prize. The children, and then we, enjoyed watching a film about the chocolate factory. The museum offers workshops and tastings. The museum staff is deeply in love with chocolate and is happy to share their love and warmth with us. What is created not only for profit lives a long and beautiful life. In the shop on the 1st floor we bought a sweet gift for a visit, a bar of pink chocolate for ourselves to enjoy and sets of small chocolates. And in the coffee shop across the street we tried chocolate, "according to the recipe" of American Indians. No sugar, also spices and almost the standard of bitterness. And our son - milk with marshmallow.
Olga A — Google review
Chocolate museum that does a lot more than I expected. I love the fact that you receive a questionnaire that you need to fill out in order to win a prize. I did! This is a great idea as it involves you in the exploration process. The museum itself is just a single floor with history and general information about chocolate. On the first floor there is a cafe and a shop for you to enjoy their products.
DMINATOR — Google review
Very interesting! Rūta is a popular brand of chocolate in Lithuania with a very interesting and longstanding history. When visiting the museum you get a card with questions to answer, kind of like a treasure hunt, with chocolates (of course) as a reward if you do well. The history of the brand is very interesting and the presentation of it is very well done. We learned a lot! Of course there is a souvenir shop where they sell a wide variety of Rūta chocolates, including the new Ruby chocolate, which is pinkish in color but not fruit flavoured as the colour might lead you to believe. We highly recommend visiting! 🍫❤️

Great museum, shop and cafe, 3 in 1 place. The museum is not large, but quite affordable and really educates you, and also there is quiz given by staff (you receive reward in the end) which makes you learn and search for information. The chocolate itself is very good, I did not expect it to be that good and prices in the shop are very affordable. Also do not miss hot chocolate in the Cafe, the taste is superb and very rich.

Can't really say how was Rutos Chocolate Museum. Very eagerly we approached the museum with kids after 6pm, only to be told that we can't enter the museum anymore. And quote - "it's not interesting to kids anyway". Museum hours online as well as on the actual museum door lists closing time 7pm. So very big disappointment. Museum exists, but they're not expecting anyone to visit it. In fact, they turn down visitors when someone tries to visit. 😂 It would be funny if our kids weren't so disappointed. Oh well. One star for a museum that exists but doesn't expect visitors.

Panemunės pilis, a 17th-century castle located beside the Neman river, boasts a small art museum and is surrounded by a park with ponds. Constructed from red brick covered in stucco by a Dutch architect in the early 1600s, its two-tower design makes it an impressive sight among the surrounding greenery and lakes. Visitors can also enjoy stunning views from the tower during summer months, as well as regular markets on-site.
The castle is definitely worth a visit - it is nicely restored, has a very interesting exposition and overall it is situated in great location. You can visit with kids.

One of the most beautiful and tallest cathedrals in this part of Lithuania. The interior is very interesting. Wonderful wooden sculptures and compositions. https://siluteinfo.lt/en/silute-region/towns-of-silute-region/sveksna/

A magnificent and unique church. Both the exterior and the interior are full of wonderful details that please the traveler's eye. The bridge to the manor park is a particularly wonderful addition. It can be seen that the church is loved by the city community. Inside, it is decorated with handmade folk art (see photos). I recommend it.

Crosing the bridge named after Prussian queen Louise (1776–1810) to Sovetsk (Russian: Сове́тск), before 1946 known as TilsiT, Lithuanian: Tilžė; Polish: Tylża; German: Tilsit) in East Prussia, a town in Kaliningrad Oblast, Russia, located on the south bank of the Neman River. The Treaties of Tilsit were signed here in July 1807, the preliminaries of which were settled by the emperors Alexander I of Russia and Napoleon I of France on a raft moored in the Neman River. This treaty, which created the Kingdom of Westphalia and the Duchy of Warsaw, completed Napoleon's humiliation of the Kingdom of Prussia, when it was deprived of one half of its dominions. (And yes, it takes sometime/hours to cross the border, take it easy 😎)

Crossing by land route from Lithuania into the Russian exclave Kaliningrad (Königsberg) this former Prussian border gate in the East of the German Empire ("Reichsgrenze") is an outstanding piece of historic heritage. Before 1945 one had to cross eastwards in order to get into Russia. Since 1991, the collapse of the Soviet Union, travelers have to cross westwards in order to visit Russia

Nice bridge, I like to pass it quick, but sometimes have to wait till Russian border guard 💂 make their work. Once spent 8 hours in the car on the bridge. FFS.

The castle began to be built in the 14th century and had defensive significance in the Middle Ages. The castle ruins are also suitable for historical reconstruction and photo shooting. Wonderful apple orchard. Apples are delicious!) Dancing Forest

Forests
The Dancing Forest is a well-known hiking destination located on the sandy Curonian Spit. The area boasts of an unusual sight - pine trees growing in unique, spiral shapes that are caused by the strong winds and sand erosion. These peculiar forms have resulted from young pine trees being buried and beaten over time, particularly during the period when Germans tested water airplanes there. While it is a great place for a romantic walk, its popularity leads to crowding at times.
It is very crowded, and you can barely explore :( Only place you can walk is the path — cannot diverge even a little bit. Hugging trees also forbidden lol ;) The smell in this place is amazing, rich of pine. Many tourists but I would still recommend.

Dancing Forest is interesting occurrence of wood by the deformation on the ground caused by specific type of butterfly lives there. When I visited place was free to enter and there is access to deep into forest by wooden pathways. Environment is quite and clean. Moreover there is a bird tracking station in the complex.

You can see pine trees there with different shapes. It IS caused by winds and sand beating and burying young pine trees. Especially when germans builted and tested water airoplaines there long time ago. Its free and it is nice possibitlity flr a roõantic walk, If not very crowded 😃🥰 But.. toilets are really dirty and full.. so think ahead. You cannot wonder around there, walking areas are made out of wooden floors.. So no seawiews 😃

Beautiful forest, very calm and relaxing, not as many 'dancing trees' as i expected, but still an interesting and a rare site.

The only place in the world where at night you think that trees are dancing at the rave party. Magnificent nature, make sure to check it.
Nikola “ — Google review
A wildly popular spot frequented mostly by the local tourists. Instead of useless souvenir kiosks they should make a proper paved parking and build some normal lavatories! Roaming around the trees is not allowed, but the locals often just don't care..
Julius P — Google review
Trees are shaped due to hazardous gas left in tankers under ground by Germans at the end of WW II. This was said at the excursion. Don't know if it's true. Can check it if anyone is interested

It is a prison now
Igor V — Google review
(Translated by Google) We visited in September 22 - we were very lucky: the castle had only just opened for excursions after the prison had been opened, and it was interesting to see not even the castle and the history (of which there is a lot in other castles), but the prison, how everything was organized and everything together. Everything was in deep repair. The first part is the castle itself, weapons in different centuries (you can hold them in your hands), in the next room there is a model in its original form and a story about the history of the castle. Part 2 - basement. 3rd - prison and cells. They are actively destroying everything around and making a show of it)) You can only visit with a tour, which lasts about 50 minutes. Tours take place every hour.

(Translated by Google) Considering the fact that I have never encountered such structures before, the place is quite interesting and large-scale. Until recently, the premises that remained from the ancient castle of the 13th century (and this is 1/4 - 1 wing) and the buildings built much later around it were a prison. Moreover, various kinds of correctional organizations were located here as early as the end of the 18th century. The only surviving wing has now been restored, the remaining three have been restored in the form of external walls, together forming a large courtyard with stands, where historical reconstructions, concerts and performances are held. Tours are conducted around the historical building, the premises are gradually filled with exhibits, furniture (but from later times), a significant collection of medieval weapons is presented... There is still a lot of work to do, but even now it is already quite interesting. The castle still holds many unsolved secrets, interesting legends, and of course has its own personal ghost. In the conditions of current restorations, the main thing is to get a good tour guide. Oleg gave us a tour. It was great - very interesting, humorous, accessible, simple and understandable.

(Translated by Google) Waldau Castle, founded in 1264 by the Knights of the Teutonic Order - but in essence: there is NO castle. - there is a wonderful beautiful old manor with a museum inside - there was a young boy (about 11 years old) who (in the absence of adults) made us coffee, gave us knight’s cloaks, told us what he knew and provided us with an audio guide, with whom we went through the park, to the basement and to the estate (I can’t help but speak call it a "lock"). In the end - very interesting. Thanks to this wonderful family - the enthusiastic Sorokins. A few years ago, the castle was lucky - Waldau decided to rent it and restore it to the best of her ability by a family of businessmen from Belgorod. For this reason, Sergei and Nadezhda Sorokin moved to Nizovye with their children. Since then, tourists have been coming here, Waldau is gradually coming to its senses (Original)

The main Forburg houses a museum of antique furniture and a restaurant. In the western wing there is a very interesting museum of the history of the former Prussia! They will tell you how the first inhabitants lived on the territory of Prussia, they will also show you models of different cities in the region, etc. In general, the museum is really interesting and I definitely recommend visiting it! Unfortunately, the eastern wing did not survive to this day and was blown up during the USSR. But in any case, I definitely recommend visiting Waldau Castle! (Translated by Google) Rodion and I arranged a magical evening for ourselves today. We went to the village. Nizovka, to Waldau Castle, founded in 1264 by the knights of the Teutonic Order. We walked along a dark alley towards the lights that illuminate the castle. There is something mystical about this. The castle does not look like a classic one with towers and loopholes. It looks more like an estate with vast grounds. We were greeted by hospitable hosts, Nadezhda, Sergey Sorokin and their boys. In the outbuilding you will be happy to make a cup of coffee or aromatic tea. I was impressed by the kitchen on the first floor and the interesting lifting device to the second floor. With its help, cooked dishes are raised to the 2nd floor in the guest room. The decor, furniture, interior dishes, tapestries, paintings - everything is ancient, atmospheric. You can enjoy your dinner here. Feeling as if you have traveled back in time. And she became the princess of this castle. Next time we will come to them for dinner. It turned out we were not the only ones who chose to spend this evening in the castle. The clock struck and invited us into the galleries, where a surprise awaited us. Majestic and solid. Huge halls, one of which has a theater area. Today we listened to the opera. Opera buffa is associated with the traditions of the folk comedy of masks (dell'arte) of Giovanni Battista Pergolesi. Performers: lyric-coloratura soprano Evgeniya Dumkina, baritone Daniil Antonov. Very gentle performance. And the plot is relevant to our time. What do we choose? Live communication, love, meetings, actions? Or talking on the phone, and now also playing games. It makes you think about how much time we spend on real life and how much time on virtual reality. 😀 A wonderful evening. Don't sit at home watching TV or phones. Seek and you will find. You will find bright and sincere people and wonderful events.

This is what the average regional museum probably looks like. But it's interesting, worth a visit. Storks live in a nest on the roof of the main building, and nearby there is a very cool cafe “At the Beaver”. There is a sweet hostess who bakes delicious strudel and pretzels. I highly recommend stopping by. And the interior of her cute German-style house is as impressive as the museum next door :-) (Original)
