I found this to be a particularly beautiful archaeological site. It's beautifully situated in the greenery. Everything is very well preserved. Everything is well-described. Several civilizations have ruled here, a very interesting history lesson. Even though it was 40 degrees Celsius, it was still manageable, as there's plenty of shade. The entree ticket was not expensive. There was no shop with drinks on the site in our case, so maybe you should carry enough water.

The place is amazing, full of history, and it has a very unique charm. The only thing I missed was a little shop or a refreshment stand… The area is quite large, so I would have appreciated some place to buy water or a small snack😊
We visited Butrint National Park and were truly impressed – it’s a beautiful and enchanting place full of history. However, I left with the feeling that more investment is needed in the park. There’s still so much to be discovered, with some monuments partially buried or even underwater. It’s a site with huge potential that deserves more preservation and attention. I also think guided tours inside the park would be a great addition – I would happily pay to learn more about its rich and fascinating history!
I was hesitant to visit because of the summer heat, but the park is surprisingly shaded, and there's a lovely breeze from the water that keeps things comfortable. The archaeological site is fascinating, with explanations at each part of the monument to guide you through. It takes about an hour to walk around, and while some paths are a bit steep, it’s manageable, just be sure to wear good shoes. The views are stunning, especially from the acropolis. Don’t miss the walk up, it gives you a breathtaking view of the entire site.
Well worth the visit. The ancient city has a ton of history from greek, roman, ottoman and venetian times. Mix of ancient ruins and more recent castles. Unfortunately no turtles there in early October
Very interesting peninsula with many ruins of Ancient Greek, Roman and Medieval structures, highlighting the historic meaning of Butrint. The visit takes about 2-3 hours and despite the heat, it was still manageable thanks to the abundance of shade. Highly recommended to visit when you are in the south of Albania
Lovely place to walk and visit with a lot of history! As you spend some time here, would have been nice to be able to get a drink or a snack but there was no place to get at least a bottle of water. Make sure you bring something to drink or snack with you.
Fascinating place if you like history. I walked here one morning (slightly accidental as I was only supposed to stroll to the bay near my hotel but missed my turn). Spent a couple of hours wandering around the old ruins.
It’s lot bigger than I expected and well worth the 1000 lek/10€.
Traffic was gridlocked at the entrance / little ferry when I left though. Pleased I walked it despite the heat. It’s worth parking at the top in car park over looking the bay and walking the last bit

The Achilleion Palace is a 19th-century neoclassical mansion with stunning Achilles-themed interiors and beautiful gardens overlooking the sea. It was originally built for Empress Elisabeth of Austria and later purchased by Kaiser Wilhelm II as a place of relaxation. The palace has a rich history, having been pillaged during World War I but now restored to its former glory.
What a wonderful place. If you are a fan of history and architecture you will love this place ! As for today you can't enter the palace due to restoration. Its still worth it though 😌 ✨️ Magestic you can see Corfu, Greece and Albania from up there

I recommend having a tour guide give you the history of this place. The statues around the villa are awesome. Give yourself an hour maybe a little more to go through this site.
Unfortunately the Palace itself was closed for renovations during our visit. However, we were able to explore the grounds which are beautiful and have amazing views. Disappointing we had to pay full entry fee for half of the experience.
Nice gardens, spectacular views and the gardens refurbishment is looking good. The building is not much more than 100 years old and is currently closed. The building must have looked impressive in it's heyday but has been neglected for a long time so is in a really poor state of repair. I felt quite sad to see it like this and expect a lot of time, money and skill will be needed to bring it back to it's former glory. Worth a visit but manage your expectations accordingly.

The building itself is currently being updated though, so you can't go in. The Gardens and statues are absolutely gorgeous though and it overlooks the city in the distance.
The garden was beautiful. Unfortunately the place is closed due to refurbishment. But there are couple of screens set up around the gardens where you can watch history of Sissi. You have to go and see massive statue of Achilles with a stunning view that will leave you speechless. Tickets for adult was €7 (only garden)
The Achilleion Palace on Corfu looks serene under a cloudy sky. Its neoclassical walls and statues blend with the soft gray light, giving the place a quiet, timeless charm.
Beautiful location with imposing statues. The interior was closed at the time of our visit but I enjoyed seeing just the gardens for a slightly reduced fee.

Nestled on a steep promontory overlooking the Ionian Sea, Akrotiri Beach Resort Hotel offers a comfortable and hospitable stay in picturesque Paleokastritsa. Amazing atmosphere, staff and location. The beach is a gem surprisingly considering how central it is. The beach bar is perfect to hang out all day with a lot of space to chill.
Restaurant in the hotel had a great menu particularly the steak, which was perfectly cooked and presented so well. There was live music on the night as well which was perfect. The staff and service really stood out. Even reception were so helpful and inviting.

Had a great 6 nights here. Got a west-facing room and just about managed to see some sunsets (due to time of the year!). Breakfast had nearly everything you could want. Staff were excellent. Pool was nice. Location of hotel was perfect. Watch out for mosquitos at night and have breakfast inside if you can to avoid the wasps! Didn't have dinner here but the pool menu was more expensive than I expected - although similar to bars/restaurants nearby. Would return
A really good hotel with beach access, nice swimming pools and great views on both sides. I would say it is good value for money for what you get. The breakfast buffet is endless with a huge variety of good quality options (one small thing - it would have been nice to have fresh fruit juice, not concentrate).
We had a superior bay view room, we were a little disappointed with the view as it was restricted so I would recommend a sea view room instead.

Beautiful! Love the calm vibe. The hotel has two sides with equally gorgeous views. Access to the beach is down many steps so may not suit some. The Rocky beach was more secluded and great for snorkelling, access to water from a ladder! Main beach is beautiful and accessible from hotel terraces that are never too busy. Rooms are clean and love the Olivia Thinks shampoos and body lotions. Breakfast included and something for everyone’s tastes.
Excellent experience! The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, the staff extremely polite, and the stay comfortable and relaxing. We will definitely visit again. We were absolutely satisfied. The cleanliness, tranquility, and service exceeded our expectations. We highly recommend it. A wonderful place to relax and unwind. The attention to detail and the kindness of the staff make all the difference. We can’t wait to return.
Totally worth it!
Rooms are lovely and the staff is so incredibly helpful and wonderful.
And of course, the cliffside sunbathing area is just to die for. Totally lived up to the photos and hype. I was out there everyday having the time of my life. Reading and swiming in the water all day long. Playing in the near by sea caves, and snorkeling and enjoying the sea life.
The food here is wonderful! Make sure to get the half board, it's totally worth it. Also, make sure to make an appt to eat at their bar, food was phenomenal!
My husband and I rented a car while here, but there is a bus that run from the Hotel to Corfu all day long. And it hardly costs anything. We actually used it to go into Old Town so we wouldn't have to worry about parking.
The only complaint is that people will go put their towels down by the rocks, and leave them there for hours. Taking up the few sun bathing beds there are in the cliffside.
I wish the staff would oversee that area. The rest of the resort has signs that say if you leave your things in attended for 30 min, they will be removed.
People would put their towels out and disappear for 2 hours for breakfast, then for a couple hours again for lunch. I thought it was rude! I always would take my towel with me when I left and offer my seat to someone else. Trying to hog a spot seemed so awful and just plain selfish.
Especially as there were times I would come and go and the entire time the person who's spot was saved, was never there! Literally, once I noticed for 3 hours a couple didn't show up. Even though other couples came and went hoping for a spot.

Resort: The resort itself seems dated. The entry and main floor are beautiful however we were on the fourth floor and the hallway was dark and it looked like it needed a refresh.
View: Our view was spectacular, we faced the bay, where you can see the monastery in the distance. Be prepared for a lot of stairs to get to the beach.
Food: The breakfast was sufficient, we did go to the restaurant for dinner and that was a huge disappointment. The buffet dinner was €40 each and I felt the breakfast was better. Nothing at the breakfast nor the dinner stood out. For the price of this resort, they are way overcharging for what they are delivering. I had to give the room 1 star, it was for the view only.
Pool: is freezing cold. We were there at the end of May so if the pool is not heated, I guess you can expect it to be cold.
Room: When we entered our room and used the restroom, unfortunately, there was a massive poop stain under the toilet lid. I don’t think I have to explain how disgusting that is. The toilet lid was wrapped with a sash, symbolizing their seal of approval for cleanliness. I reported this to the front desk and someone cleaned the toilet, however, I lost my faith in the cleanliness of the hotel overall. The hotel did not apologize either. He simply told someone to find someone to clean it. (I have a picture that I showed the concierge, but I will not post it here.)
Overall I cannot recommend this hotel.
Old town is a must see and do, streets are beautiful. Loads of shopping and restaurants.
The views are amazing, from either side of the hotel. I had a room facing the bay, so it was a little more "interesting", even though sadly there is an abandoned hotel building in the middle of the view. You can go for a swim on either side, either from the charming "rocky beach" or from the real beach in the bay. I ended up preferring going on rocky beach, jumping in the sea directly from the steps, much less people there. What sets the hotel apart is the staff, they are all beyond nice and all give 120% - which is very rare - and I finally got an explanation on my last day as I took a transfer and my driver had worked at the hotel for 20 years, apparently they just all respect the owners so much that it creates a great work atmosphere and people naturally go the extra mile. The rooms lacked a bit of soundproofing, you could hear the music from the beach bars until quite late at night, guests in other rooms if they were a bit loud, and the mechanism of the doors closing was quite loud, slamming the doors. For the price and the 5 star rating, the rooms were small and not particularly luxurious. The food at the pool was not particularly great either. As popular as the bay is, it lacks options when it comes to restaurants, and one quickly goes around the best ones accessible on foot.

Kanali tou Erota, also known as Canal d'Amour, is a small and romantic beach cove located near the village of Sidari on the north coast of the island. It features sandy arcs nestled between rock formations, creating a picturesque setting. According to local legend, swimming through the canal with a loved one ensures staying together forever, while swimming alone promises meeting your true love within a year.
Definitely my favorite place in Corfu, the views are incredible, and a lot of view points before going to the Canal. The place is nice a little bit crowded but still space to swim and to do little cliff jumps, the water is warmer than in other places in Corfu.

swam here in October. made it over to the rocks. 15 minute swim across choppy waters... safe as long as you are a strong and confident swimmer. also swam through the cave which is a bit rough but easier if you swim with the incoming tide and not against it. my pictures were taken from the offshore rocks so unique vantage point
I LOVED this spot. I came at 5pm and it was perfect. The sun was hot, but I never needed sunscreen. The water was refreshingly cold and serene. There are many places to lay around on the rocks. I never even went down to the sandy 🏖️ beach as it was way too overcrowded. There are so many fun places to jump into the water, little caves to swim inside of or climb onto. The view is spectacular.
There is free public parking right at the entrance.
We were there at 7 in the evening. The waves were very big, and by then only a few people were swimming. The sun shines beautifully there, it’s a great spot for photos. Definitely check it out if you’re in Corfu. The water is murky for swimming, but the view from above is stunning.
The canal is really nice and worth a visit. It can get a bit crowded (as expected), but still enjoyable. I’d recommend spending a few hours here to take in the atmosphere before heading to one of the many nearby beaches.
Canal d’Amour – A Natural Masterpiece in Corfu
Visiting Canal d’Amour in Corfu was like stumbling into a dream-landscape of sea, stone, and legend. From the moment I arrived, I felt its magic — the way the sunlight strikes the sandstone cliffs, the narrow channel carved by wind and waves, the promise of romance woven in every ripple. This place isn’t just a beach; it’s an immersive moment in nature’s artistry.
First, the setting: Canal d’Amour is on the north-western coast of Corfu, near the village of Sidari between Sidari and Peroulades. The location is quite accessible by car or taxi, with nearby parking — though during the busy season you’ll want to arrive early to avoid the crowds.
What makes Canal d’Amour truly special are the rock formations. Sheer sandstone cliffs sculpted over centuries have created a channel and several small coves and caves. Natural arches, tunnels, small lagoons, all of them bathed in crystalline, turquoise water that invites you to swim, snorkel, explore. Legend enhances the atmosphere: swim through the channel with someone you love, they say, and your bond will last forever. It’s romantic, playful, maybe a little cheesy — but I loved every bit of that folklore.
The beach area itself is relatively small, which gives it charm but also poses limitations. At times the shore is crowded, towels and umbrellas packed in tightly, especially in peak summer. There’s beauty in that shared enthusiasm, but also moments when you have to compete with others for a good spot. If possible, go early in the morning or later in the afternoon when the light is softer and the crowds ease up.
Amenities are pretty good. There are sunbeds and umbrellas for rent, nearby tavernas and cafés where you can grab something to eat or drink, restrooms, places to change. It’s not ultra-luxurious, but everything you need for a comfortable visit is there.
One of my favorite moments was exploring the sea caves and the small bays. Swimming under rock overhangs, peering into caverns, feeling the water shift from calm and shallow to deeper blue as you move away from the shore. The views from above are just as striking: walking along the rock edges, looking out over the sea and cliffs, and watching the sun set — that golden hour is unforgettable.
If I had to sum it up: Canal d’Amour is more than a photo-op — it’s nature, story, and landscape fused in one place. It’s not perfect (crowds can be a downside, the beach small), but those imperfections don’t erase the wonder. I’d absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting Corfu. Go with open eyes, a spirit for adventure, and maybe someone you care about — the legend says it matters 😉.
The Canal d’Amour, or “Channel of Love,” is a famous natural attraction near the town of Sidari on the northern coast of Corfu. It consists of unique sandstone cliffs and narrow coves carved by the sea, creating small, intimate beaches and crystal-clear waters. According to local legend, couples who swim through the canal together will stay in love forever, which adds a romantic charm to the place. The scenery is striking, with golden cliffs, turquoise water, and hidden corners perfect for swimming, snorkeling, or simply enjoying the sun.

Super sandy beach on the Puglia coast with crystal clear waters. There is a walk into it, but you can avail of the shuttle and parking for €10. There is another carpark for €5 but without the shuttle. We actually walked out as there was a large crowd coming out at the time. Beautiful beach, with small cliffs to provide shade. Our kids loved it.

Crystal clear water with incredible fine white sand. We arrived around lunch time and still managed to find some space on the free beach. Bring sandwiches and water to avoid the constant queue at the only small bar. Plenty of parking with free shuttle near the beach, park in "Da Marco" €5.00 for the whole day 10 minutes walk from the beach. Bring time and peace, to relax, one of the most beautiful beaches in Puglia on the Adriatic coast.

This is one of the most beautiful beach I have ever been to. The water is so clear, the depth increases very gradually. I swam in April 2nd and the water was a comfortable temperature, not warm, but not unpleasant. The plastic garbage is unfortunate, but I guess better that it washes up than stays in the ocean. You will enjoy this beach a lot.

Va very nice beach ended. It is very difficult to find sandy beaches in Puglia. This one is one of them and I think it definitely worth it! They call it "Maldives" ... Of course it's a metaphor. Nothing is like Maldives in terms of beaches. But anyways, if you're a beach person and would like to spend some time on the beach, this one it nice!

A beautiful square with connecting little streets. This church and its surroundings are truly stunning. However, tickets are required here, which is a bit disappointing, as one wouldn’t expect it for this type of monument. Moreover, they are sold on the other side of the square.
Going into the crypt is a must. Seeing the skeletal remains is a bit scary.
The best value is the 11€ ticket that gets you into the Basilica (7€ just for this), Cathedral (this one) and 2 other churches as well. Now that is worth it and it is like a treasure hunt by following the map and getting you around the old city.

The Sant'Agata Basilica is located in the heart of Gallipoli old town which is on a small island. It is the largest building there packed in tiny streets around, so it's difficult to capture the whole beautiful Baroque facade.
The interiors are stunning - pretty dark as a result of lacking sunlight with similarly dark huge paintings on its walls. Terrific marble art work as well. Free entry

This is maybe one of the most amazing towers to visit on the southern side of Puglia, the view on top is priceles as is the fresh breeze relieving from the summer hotness!

I came to visit this tower twice during my vacation. The first time it was closed to only private visits, but to compensate they made a really interesting show in collaboration with the local dance club, I quite enjoyed it. The lesson I learned here is that one should always inform him/herself about the location to visit.
It's not too bad that you can't enter, the tower is still quite impressive from the outside too and at night it gets illuminated. During the day you can also chill on the small open pond there and enjoy the sea.

The place in general is good but the restrictions are so many that really spoil the fun for the kids.For big rides a parent needs to accompany the kid so i had to be with my 14 year old to go for the rides!!🤔 And if you have 2 kids like me I have to wait 30 minutes with one to do the ride and then wait another 30 minutes plus to go with the second...I understand safety is a priority but this really spoils the fun for the kids.The staff was really polite and the park was clean.At busy times it is crowded and you will have to wait a long time to go to the popular rides.
The water park wasn’t full but big queues on the most fun slide. Many silly rules, my kids 1 too big for some slides and the other too small and they didn’t play together . They closed the only fast food at 14:00 .
Really nice place especially on a Monday in July, there were not too many people and the kids (3 and 4) had fun. Some strange rules on the water slides, but the food was nice for being a park, kind people and fun (in house) show for the kids at the end. Not expensive. I wouldn't go on a holiday though.
We went there for my son's 7th birthday. Most of the slides were too big for him and we ended up wondering from here to there.
It was very strange to see that staff was making small children queue for the small slides area. At times the slides were empty, while the queue was becoming bigger. Didn't see the point of that.
Poor activity for such a big territory - there were no shows - just staff taking pictures that you can buy at the end for a ridiculous price (10€ or the 1st photo and 7€ for the next ones). Music was too loud as well.
On the good side we found the place very clean and they have a good variety of (Italian) food at the cafe. Lasagna was great and the aubergine as well.
Tip: Follow their Instagram account for a 3€ discount for each follower. Show this at the ticket counter when buying the tickets and they will apply the discount immediately.
All in all - I would maybe recommend the park for children above 10yo. I would not go back.
The rides are ok. The guys at the rides let you wait on purpose and the regulations are really stupid sometimes, but we can't change that. The music at the waves bath is much too loud. It's anyway nice to spend the day (if too windy for the beach).
Kids love the aqua park great value and reasonably priced inside. Lots of wadeable areas. 7 pools and slides. Nice and clean free Sun loungers and parking. Bring your own picnic and BBQ space is provided.
This is the worst aquapark , we ever been.
First of all the slides stop working for 2-3 hours at lunch time.
There is no working restaurant and the only food is chips and ice cream.
The safety measures are very expensive.
Our children are around 8 years old and there is only 1 slide for them.
Everything is above 135-150 m height.
The aqua park is in the middle of nowhere and we drive around 2 hours to there and we are very very disappointed.

Getting there is really easy thanks to the shuttle service from the parking area. It’s €8 per car per day, and that includes everyone inside the car plus parking, super convenient if you don’t want to stress about finding a spot.
There’s a small spiaggia attrezzata with chairs and umbrellas if you prefer some comfort, but most of the beach is spiaggia libera, so you can pick your own spot and enjoy the natural setting. The area is also mostly disabled-friendly, so it’s accessible for everyone, which is a huge plus.
Overall, Torre Guaceto is perfect for anyone looking for a clean, relaxing beach with beautiful scenery, easy access, and a touch of solitude if you explore a bit. Definitely a must-visit if you’re in the region!

Beautiful beaches. During the off season we were almost the only ones as you basically need a bike to get to the ones more east.
Unfortunately there is a lot of plastic everywhere but you cannot blame the national park for that...

Interesting natural reserve with lots of animals, like birds and snakes.
This is a fine example of a conservation area and yet very accessible to the public . A shuttle bus service is provided from the main parking area. There are different zones of protection , no fishing , sailing and water sport areas and swimming is not encouraged in some areas . The areas are clearly designated and the public seem to be cooperating. There is a turtle hospital not open to the public due to stress that this would cause the animals. There are long scenic , tranquil paths to walk but beware of the erosions and danger in some of the cliff tops. The beaches and bays are a haven for wildlife and the public alike this place deserves more publicity but maybe its better left to the public to discover how wonderful it is?
Sorry but calling Torre Guaceto a natural reserve is a joke... The beach is dirty, with microplastics and other waste, and due to the shallow water the dirt remains in the water almost up to the buoys. Beach is overcrowded in August as could be expected, yet it has only two toilets and not even a shower. Booking online or not makes no difference: the parking is huge and accepts anyone who pays the 5€ at the entrance, and then everyone queues up for the shuttle. But the small „train“ doesn’t bring you to the beach, instead it drops you off some 700m away... and even in peak periods there is only one "train". Queues under the scorching sun are very long for both journeys (wait at least 20 minutes). The sea is ok, but neither better nor worse than the other coves along the coast. Don‘t waste your time & money here!
Just beautiful, a bit of everything white beachside, grotto's, ruins. Love that so much of this area from Bari on down the coast isn't the over devolved beaches of Spain and France.

Located on the island of Borgo Antico, at the entrance to the bay surrounding Taranto, Castello Aragonese is one of Italy's oldest and most grandiose sights. Built between 1487 and 1492 by Ferdinand II of Aragon, it replaced an earlier Norman structure. The castle offers guided tours by the Italian Navy and features two cafes and a bookshop.
The entrance is free, it is at fixed times, it is a navy museum and the tour is guided by a navy guide. I recommend that you make a reservation so that you don't have emotions, we didn't know and we didn't, but we were still allowed access, I think it's related to the number of visitors at that time. The guide's explanations are interesting and complete, in Italian anyway, but you can still take pictures of the castle, the interior models, the surroundings and enjoy the sunset if you are at the right time.

A very nice visit at the castle. A navy official provides a guided tour for free (in Italian) every hour. The tour gives information over the history of Taranto and the castle. I found it very informative and entertaining. I would recommend doing it if you are visiting Taranto. Also I was amazed that by the sunset, they displayed the Italian flag with lights on one of the sides of the Costello while playing some anthem (I wish I knew what was it), I loved that moment.
A beautiful castle belongs to the Italian navy, but an unpleasant surprise awaited us, you must have booked a tour guide, that's the only way you can enter...!!!
It doesn't even matter so it's worth a visit. Highly recommended.

Amazing experience! We took the train from Bari and a bus from the train station + a 30 min walk from Fasano, as there was no shuttle bus during weekdays, but was totally worth it.
We did not have a car, and were planning to take the bus, but we were given a spare car, which made the experience unforgettable.
Amazing experience! One literally feeds giraffes amd zebras out of the car window. Animals are so near that it cannot be compared with any other zoo. Bring 3-5 kg Carrots and buy peanuts for the monkeys! Totally worth it for any age.
The safari tour was great but the rest more la la.. Rest is the second part of walking tour including a funny train and many closed attractions.
Also they forced me to pay extra parking 4 EUR although I paid a family ticket 140 EUR and they know the tour ends with parking and proceeding by foot once through the safari with the car🤣 . Pretty low and embarrassing 👎

Loved it! Safari from the car was definitely the best part! Bring carrots with you, animals will love it. It can get slow and crowded in the season, so have patience and enjoy the ride. Bring water with you cause it can take 2 hours to just go through the first part in car. You don’t have to buy tickets in advance, you can do it at the gate from your car when you arrive.
Great time spent with the family in the Safari and the park! The park is huge, you can see the animals very close, pet them! The animals are well looked after, there is no bad smell at all! Their territory is large, it looks like the animals are happy in the park! I highly recommend it!
Me and my family had a great time! Every penny was worth it :). The animals seemed happy and freely ran around the park. After our family went through the safari we left without knowing how much is left there,so make sure you don’t make the same mistake! It's well managed and unique (for Europe) place to see lots of exotic animals considerably free in a wide space from the close but safe approach of your car. There are many areas that you are allowed to touch and feed the animals (please don't give them junk or human food, you can buy carrots, peanuts etc. specially for them at the entrance) and areas where you need to stay in your car at all times but it's all worth it. The animals looks like the staff take good care of them which is very important for me considering other similar places or zoo parks in Europe. It's really family/kids friendly place. In the pedestrian area you can find other animals and different zones like reptiles and insects, lake with birds and monkeys where you can have a paid boat ride, there is a rail car (zoo metro) which you can take from one zone to another, a special monkey zone which you can visit with a caged safari style truck and feed peanuts to the animals through a special holes. There is an amusement park in the pedestrian area where you can find food and drinks and have some fun before you take off. Overall a great place for kids and families, we had amazing time there.

Pretty but...
I can't help feel that Polignano is a victim of its own "beauty". Certainly worth a visit, but I felt I kept on waiting for it to deliver, and it never did.
It does have an impressive setting, built above and into the shallow cliffs, and it had the typical bars and restaurants to enjoy, with a "new" viaduct where an old Roman one used to be, above THE beach - pebble and crowded, so for viewing from a distance rather than enjoying as a beach.
You also run out of things to experience pretty quickly, so give it an hour for a coffee, beer or glass of wine, and move on!
Free parking up by the station.
A special place to visit! The tall narrow houses clinging to the cliffs with the crashing waves below. Let your eyes soak up the beautiful clear Adriatic sea. Walk the narrow passages in centro storico. Experience the poetry of the little village. Dive back to Roma times.
What a charming place to stay for a long weekend. Polignano a Mare looks like it is straight out of a movie set. This part of Italy (the heel) does not suffer over-tourism so I found it peaceful. The small town is very eye catching, as it's perched precariously on steep sea cliffs. The houses have flower laden balconies and are separated by tight alleyways. You really feel like you are stepping back in time by decades. Your standard run of the mill restaurant here, would be a top class Italian restaurant at home, and the prices are great. There is a statue here dedicated to their favourite son - the famous Italian singer, composer, and actor Domenico Modugno. There is not much English spoken here, so you are better off making the effort to learn some Italian words. If you are in the Bari area, I would advise coming here for a day trip at least, it's that special here.
A very nice small city with narrow streets and fresh sea air. If you dare, you can try swimming down at the rocks because this area is always full of visitors and tourists. While walking at the streets don't miss the beautiful sea view!

The Cathedral Basilica of Saint Nicholas the Pilgrim, also known as the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta or Santo Nicola Pellegrino, is a Romanesque Catholic cathedral in Trani, Italy. Basilica is free of charge and only entry to the tower costs 5€. There are about 298 stairs to climb to reach the peak (59 m). Unfortunately you cannot go outside and it is hard to take a good photo beacues of the nets that are installed in the windows, but still it is worthy as from up there you can see the whole castle and the see and it was magical for me.
The entrance to the basilica is from the underground. There are nice frescoes in the crypt, but if you want to switch on the light to see them you must pay.
The basilica made a huge impression on me. I have never seen a church located so close to the see. I really recommend to visit Trani and basilica.

Cathedral is one of the best places to see in the region. There is a lot of history, monuments to see. Unfortunately you can not take a guide inside. It’s located in lovely area, near the park and the port. The liturgy are normally about 10 pm. Inside is a little bit cold, but it’s normal like in this kind of buildings. You can go also to the underground.

The Catholic Cathedral of Maria de Santos is famous in Trani for being made of local pinkish-white marble and its majestic presence by the sea.
A beautifully restored church — definitely worth stepping inside. Please be respectful, keep noise to a minimum, and avoid taking photos. It’s wheelchair accessible, and entry was free when we visited. We enjoyed stopping by during an evening walk along the waterfront, followed by some gelato — a lovely experience overall.

Parking is paid, as is the shuttle. There's a con man standing by the free restroom trying to take money for admission.
After parking and the shuttle, there's a ticket to the castle itself, which costs 10 euros for a tour inside the castle, which is actually quite small; it takes no more than 15 minutes to explore.
Amazing castle, stunning to look at, but not really much to see inside. Reachable only via rather questionable roads. Still a definite must see when you are in the area.
Amazing Swabian castle dating back to about 1290! It is surrounded by a forest and you only need a few hours to see everything. Bring some good hiking shoes, unless you are able to pay for parking close to the castle. We went during the week and it was not very busy. There are a few great videos inside the castle, which stays amazingly cool in the summer heat!!
We went in early November so it wasn’t too crowded. We parked in the nearby private lot for €5 but I think if you park in the lot ~2km away it’s free. The museum was great. Text panels in Italian and English and braille. Video and tactile exhibits. Audio guide in multiple languages available at an extra cost. Bathrooms on the premises. A restaurant nearby as well. Can be seen in its entirety in under an hour.

The octagonal castle is surrounded by an octagonal tower at each corner.
Mysterious and an almost inhumanly exact geometric shape, some theories claim that the octagon represented the union of the circle and the square.
The octagonal layout gives Castel del Monte the configuration of an elegant stone crown, and is present in all the castle's rooms. There are eight rooms on the ground floor, and eight on the first floor. There are eight towers surrounding the building, all with an octagonal layout and each arranged on one of its eight corners.
This obsessive recurrence of the number eight makes the fortress of Castel del Monte an esoteric place that has fascinated the best scholars for centuries. But the fortress has more mysteries for you to slowly discover during your visit. The building is accessed through the entrance portal, a large Arab-style arch with a Greco-Roman tympanum and Gothic double-arched windows.
The light colour of the limestone and white marble façades also characterises the interior, now stripped of the decorations that once adorned it. The light illuminating the ground floor comes from eight single-arched windows located on each of the eight sides of the floor plan. The same number of windows can be found on the upper floor, with one small difference: seven windows are double arched, while only one, that facing Andria, is triple arched.
You really cannot miss to visit it if you are in Apulia.

More than wonderful!! Very preserved, incredible paintings and art all around Certosa. For me, much better than the vatican museum, because besides beatiful it is a quiet and peacefull place.
Awesome monastery in the town of Padula in Salerno province. It's a standing evidence of remarkable architecture. It's huge and spread across thousands of square meter area. It also encompasses a history artifact museum where artifacts from 2nd century B.C. are put on display. These artifacts were discovered from near by areas like sala consilina during excavation around 1950s. The town and the view along with this monastery is also remarkable. The town is located on the downhill and provides a picturesque view when viewed from the bottom of the hill and also the monastery which is located at the bottom of the hill and the beginning of the town. If you are in this region and you are looking for an interesting place to visit, this must be in your list.
Lovely day out in stunning medieval Italian abbey in the countryside. Easy to reach from motorway just 1h south of Salerno. Lots of space to run around for children. Complete of its own little archeological museum with lovely greek and italic artefacts from the region. Trattoria degli ulivi nearby offers a lovely and cheap meal after all the walking around
The Certosa di San Lorenzo is the biggest cartheuse in the world. Inside, you first get introduced to monastery life by a walk through the cellars where you see multiple video sequences explaining everything you need to know. Afterwards, entering the main monastery, you get greeted by the first of three cloisters. Through the church, kitchens, meeting rooms and chapels, it all leads up to the highlight of the visit, the monumental cloister, which is bigger than a football field. Throughout the cartheuse, there are many interesting artworks and stone cuttings for the people who care. Overall, the Certosa is a must visit if you are in the region.
A beautiful place that we visited in about two hours! All spectacular from the quiet cloister, the library with the floor covered with Vietri sul Mare ceramic tiles, the church decorated with precious marble, the large kitchen, the spiral staircase, the Sala delle Campane, of the Chapter and the Treasury, the various Chapels, the largest Cloister in the world with the Carthusian Cells really a marvel !!! Despite its majesty and beauty, the place has lost that mystical and sacred dimension typical of religious places. There is a large outdoor parking cost € 3.00. In the courtyard you can admire the beautiful seventeenth-century façade in Baroque style where there is the ticket office together with the bookshop point, which is usually located at the end of the route. We wanted to buy a little book but finished in Italian language! Besides the fact that it is a unique place and therefore absolutely to visit but it could really does much more!
Carthusian monasteries are of interest to me (due to my job) so obviously I enjoyed the visit but my family loved it too. It's a well preserved example even though the monks are no longer there.
This gem was a great experience, I wish we had more time to visit everything. It deserves s visit even if short on time but plan at least 2 or 3 hours for a more relaxed experience.

I loved it here, being in prayer almost for a week, the staff knew me very well, even the priests and nuns (: It was an honor to worship and see the different Mass of languages, only wish they had English Mass though, it’s very rare. Other than that, be aware …it’s best to go early morning, when they open or when they are about to close. It can get very crowded, especially the weekends.
St. Micheal archangel favorite color is RED! Don’t forget to buy a chaplet and pray on the other part where he appeared.

8/29/2025: I am on Jubilee Pilgrimage with 37 of my fellow pilgrims. Today I saw an image... Who do you see? What I can clearly see is the rock image of 🙏 St. Padre Pio depicted on the masonry wall looking down at the entrance way of the original St. Michael the Archangel Church. I can see his eyes, eyebrows, nose, mouth, and his beard. The caretaker for 30-years never saw this image until today. I wanted to share this image to everyone in the world... God bless us all!
Definitely a must- visit sacred place. It was too crowded due to the Feast and the Jubilarian Year. Yep! Not May 8th but Sept 29th. Prepare to descend and return in stairs.
Beautiful place. There were too many tourists. I would have liked some quiet to pray, but a guide was giving a lecture to a group of tourists in the grotto. I think that was inappropriate. There should be no talking in that area.
I waited 45 minutes for them to leave and it was better when they had left. I feel there should be more respect in holy places. Definitely a good place to go. Not open early for prayer - opened at 8:30 a.m.
We participated in the procession through the town for the feast of Corpus Cristi.

The only small minus is the closing time for lunch break. I’ve visited many sanctuaries and monasteries and did a lot of pilgrimages and I’ve never seen something like that in a sacred place. Especially, as this is a destination is for pilgrims!!
Be sure to organize your trip accordingly and do not arrive during the break to ensure to have the time to visit the entire complex (museums also close for lunch break!!!)

The Sanctuary of Saint Mary our Lady of Grace is a Catholic church with a rich history, featuring three naves and altars adorned with mosaics, relics, and statues. One of our dream pilgrimage destinations fulfilled. It was a long trip coming from the Philippines then Germany and Austria. Stayed in a hotel overnight in Foggia before taking the bus to San Giovanni Rotondo. Well worth the trip. St. Padre Pio pray for us.

Went here as part of the pilgrimate tour, to see the St. Padre Pio. It was a 5-hour drive from Rome.
The church was beautiful and there’s a museum upstairs where you can see how St Padre Pio lives in the church and the cross where he got his stigmata while he was praying. They also put some pictures to describe the life of St, Padre.
There’s a big and modern sanctuary behind the church with amazing architecture and where you can enjoy a very good view of the town from the hill. Under the sanctuary, you can see the body of St. Padre Pio upclose from behind the glass. People line up and pray here.
On top of the hill there is a big hospital that were build from the donation to the church.
If you are going with the tour bus, the bus will have to park at the bus parking and then we go with a shuttle bus to the church. They don’t allow the outside bus to stop in front of the church anymore.
We are talking about a Sanctuary City high on the hills of San Giovanni Rotondo where Padre Pio, the most important Saint of this century (XX) was born and lived to cure the poor.

The new church is incredibly beautiful. Marvelous mosaics and a beatiful statue of San Pio.
But much more important than this: this church is full of grace. The energetic density is very high and can be sensed as soon as you enter the building. After two minutes inside I started to cry for no reason. This is Grace that makes the unconscious sorrow conscious. On a spiritual path this is called purification. During mass the energy level gets even higher.
So, walk inside, admire the mosaics and the statue, but know: the most valuable here is invisible! 🙏🙏

Nestled in the heart of Italy, the Royal Palace of Caserta stands as a magnificent testament to Baroque architecture and opulence. This sprawling palace, surrounded by lush gardens adorned with stunning fountains, was commissioned by Charles III of Bourbon as a rival to Versailles. Since its designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997, visitors have been captivated by its nearly 1,200 rooms filled with exquisite furnishings and breathtaking frescoes.
Amazing and impressive place; staggering the scale of it and how long it took to build, but not at all surprising when you see it. An absolute must to visit, it is the only way it can be truly appreciated. Over 1,200 rooms and about 40 metres tall! The gardens are absolutely huge and equally impressive, I recommend the minibus if you don't have so much time because you can easily spend a whole day walking around the entire property, but you do then miss out on the length of the run to the garden, especially you like taking pictures. Given the number of rooms, there's clearly a lot to see inside. Both areas contain a huge amount of creative items to see, like statues (mostly in the gardens) and paintings and other fixtures.

I think it’s one of Italy’s hidden gems. Such a lovely place with marvelous architecture and a beautiful garden. However, I believe it deserves more care and attention—the garden could be even more stunning than it currently is.
The entrance ticket to the palace was €12 as of September 2025, with the last entry at 6 PM. After 5 PM, the fee is reduced to €5. The garden has a separate entrance fee of €3 and remains open until 7:30 PM.
I highly recommend visiting this palace. It’s truly worth it!

If I was to go back I'd visit the palace one day and the gardens another. I spent a whole day from 8:30 am to 4pm and I could have easily spent a few more hours just walking around soaking the beauty of the place, but I was tired and I had to get the bus back.

The park is especially breathtaking — an endless alley with fountains, cascades, and statues stretching for several kilometers. It’s best to allow at least 3–4 hours for a walk, and if you plan to reach the Grand Waterfall on foot, reserve the whole day. You can rent an electric cart or a bike, and if you’re visiting with a group, it’s convenient to take a small shuttle bus — just €5 per person.

☕ At the very end of the park, near the waterfall, there’s a cozy café where you can enjoy authentic Italian cuisine and relax after the walk.

Grandiose structure (mostly empty) but the royal chambers (Piano nobile) are quite extensive and richly decorated and elegantly furnished. I enjoyed a 90 minute very informative guided tour in Italian (unfortunately with an excessive amount of Bourbon-era nostalgia... and no critical comment on the social costs of such bombastic projects and the sociopolitical effects of spatial distancing of royalty from the common folk in a guilded playground).
I found this Reggia more elegant and pretty than the Quirinal and some other palaces in Italy (laden with austere or disproportionate displays of Baroque or mismatched styles or unfinished or unrestored works). Many similar palaces in Germany and Austria are however more elegant and aesthetically pleasing (they have also been restored to a supreme level of splendor and decadence by exceedingly generous government allocations in recent years).
What recent administrations have done to restore the Reggia after decades of neglect is surely remarkable. The mixture of contemporary art with the original museum exhibits (after COVID) is not always very convincing: some combinations work fine but in other cases there is no real dialogue between works of art (the contemporary pieces - of differing quality and from a single collection linked to a recent natural disaster - seem put there very jarringly simply to respect the conditions of the donation, i.e. that they reach the widest public possible, and little concern for the dignity and harmony of the rooms' decor). Some works would work better in the empty exhibition spaces of the palace (even with baroque and neoclassical works included for comparison). But then you if you expand the exhibition spaces, you need to keep visitors there the whole day to visit the royal chambers and the rest of the museum. So you would need to attract families with children (with some technology exhibits, children's areas, etc.) and full day visitors (with a food court, performances in the gardens, picknic areas, horse riding...). I hope the site continues to develop into a mature and diversified tourist venue.
Not just a must see, an amazing experience! One of the most beautiful gardens i ve ever been in my life! You should definetely go there. You can skip the palace, its just another palace, but you should get to the garden! We ve made the one way on foot, and we came back with the bus. Its a reaaaaly long distance, so i would suggest you to rent a bicycle. it would be much more pleasant. If you get there at its opening time, you will have the garden for yourself!!!

Must visit! By far the most spectacular views over the 16km length of beach Pescara has to offer! I didn’t manage to catch the sunset, however, still amazed with the beauty of the bridge! Next time I’ll go earlier and get the best of both views!
I recommend to visit this iconic spot before the sunset. It’s a wonderful place for a walk, to take photos, or simply enjoy the scenery. It is the largest bicycle-pedestrian bridge in Italy and one of the largest in Europe. The architecture is modern and impressive. The views from the top are truly beautiful. You can see both the sea and the city.
