Beautifull place with nice water and rocks! In the beginning it’s really cold but if u mostly be in the water it will be less bad. Definitely reccomend!!!

An impressive place, definitely worth visiting and a person to experience their own adventure. You need aqua shoes because the water is quite cold, as well as a dry bag for luggage, they are sold in the parking lot. In places the water is deep, but everyone can explore as far as they want. They offer a variety of adventures, horseback riding, kayaks and boats on the river.

Lovely place with stunning, picturesque sites, definitely worth visiting. But the river is freezingly cold, literally could not keep my feet in it for more than ten seconds. Rafting is a must and we chose the first one to offer us this, at the very beginning of the tourist site. All in all, really well-organized, and definitely we will come again some day, just fully- equipped next time, to be able to explore more of the canyon.

The best excretion in the area... One of the best rivers to walk and swim in Greece... Really worth the visit and try some of the activities in the river like horse riding, zip line, cayak etc.... Highly highly recommended really impressed with the area...suitable for all ages from very young children

"Are you far from the river?". Our trip to the River Acheron was the highlight of our recent holiday in Parga. It is a truly extraordinary experience which I will never forget. The water is refreshingly cold and it gets so deep at points at the Gorge that you may have to swim. There is also rafting, kayaking and horse riding. There are plenty of places to eat in Acheron, beautiful open-air stores and bathroom facilities.

Life changing experience. Be prepared for cold swims and a bit of climbing. Bring swimming shoes though, or buy some before entering! Truly an incredible experience that everyone should go through at least once in their life.

A beautiful and historic bridge in Arta. Located over the Arachthos River. Dates back to the 16th century. There is a pedestrian path along the river, and a nice park to view the bridge. Also many Kafeneios and restaurants with bridge side views. I can recommend for a lovely outing while in the area. Not far from the highway and a great place to stop en route to other locations.

It is a fantastic 17th century AD stone bridge of the Arachthos River and it is the most famous sight to see in Arta. It is the most famous bridge in Greece because of its beauty and of the legend about the so-called "sacrifice of the master builder's wife" in order for it to be built. According to the well-known folk song, 1300 masons, 60 students, 45 craftsmen under the Chief Master, tried to build the bridge whose foundations were destroyed every morning. The length of the stone bridge of Arta reaches 145 meters while its width is 3.75 meters. Platanos tree on one side is considered to be around 350 years old. It is enormous.

The myth of legendary bridge of Arta. A song is written about this bridge, the myth says that all day they were building it, at at night it would fall. The first builders wife had to be sacrificed in order for the bridge to complete. Other then the myth, it’s a landmark of the city, took its final form in 1612. However, the foundations of the bridge show that in this place there was a bridge as early as classical or Hellenistic times. The last addition was made in the times of the Ottoman domination, when the pavement was raised, so the bridge took on its current appearance. Its current appearance is the culmination of many occasional additions and reconstructions of the original building. The structure itself and the way it was constructed testify to the various phases of completion of the project and lead us to the starting point of its history.

This is a MUST for anyone visiting the area of Epirus! Do not miss to make this stop at a place made by the hand of an artist! Very informative tour and guide. He really knew a lot of facts to tell us about everything and every period shown in the museum. And even knew some historical facts about the First World War in Greece. I really learned a lot from him about Greek history which I didn't knew yet.

It's definitely worth your while. The surroundings are like you're in a cave. Attention is paid to every detail, even weed growing between stones!

One of the most beautiful museums - the wax statues are so detailed you feel they are alive.set in different periods they show scenes of the most significant events in the Greek history. The building inside is cleverly designed - you go through dark corridors and see the statues behind windows in various scenes. The last part is the artist's selection of various events . No photos or videos are allowed. Don't miss it!

The personages seems not so "real" and if you are "claustrophobic " its not a good idea to go here you are in the dark and it's cold and some personages move her eyes to look at you ... you don't feel so relax and you can not take photography and if you take the security gonna follow you on your back until the end like you have killed someone or like you have do the one abominable think it's stupid and crazy because in England you have the same thing and better with all the cinema star and you can take photos and touch the personages and it's seems more real it's stupid !

Very pretty, lots to see. Beware that all the museums inside are closed on a Tuesday. The restaurants and Tavernas are open though. Old Town was pretty and the lakeside walk is very nice as well.

If you love history, spend time wandering this ancient Byzantine fortress. It's free to go inside and wander, but the museums cost money. Part of the fortress includes lived-in houses and shops! There's free parking near the lake.

Amazing history, majestic historic buildings repurposed into museums. Breathtaking views of the lake and city. Heads up: they're closed on Tuesdays. However, if you end up there on a Tuesday like me, it's still worth the stroll :)

The place is nice but the view of the Ioannina lake is spectacular ! You should let yourself drift around the alleys and see the architecture of the buildings inside the castle. There are museums, mosques and churches that are interesting for visitors to see. But the one place that was astonishing was the «Silversmithing Museum» (tip: watch all the 5’ documentaries at the screens inside the museum that demonstrate the unique silversmithing techniques of the area of Epirus)

Once you figure out where the "action" is there is a lot to see, whether you want to pay for entrance to specific things or not. The overall "castle" has many layers of history visible inside the bigger exterior walls.

Definitely worth a stroll in the afternoon. Interesting old buildings. Free entrance! There's also a nice restaurant.

Used to visit this place when I was a small child with my grandparents, and my parents a lot every time we visited Greece and Ioannina. It's a kinda nostalgic but also very special place to me.

Very nice lake! You can walk around or get in one of the boats that do tours in the lake and enjoy the calm atmosphere. It is quite big and the scenery with all the trees and the birds and swans is lovely. There are also many restaurants around the lake so that anyone can enjoy the view while having a coffee or a meal. I would visit it again.

A very beautiful place to visit.Lake Pamvotida is located in the city of Ioannina, Epirus, Greece. Around of the lake there is the castle of Ioannina which has 3.200 inhabitants inside and there are many cafe bars,restaurants and souvenir shops which have sight of the lake. You can take the ferry for a fast cruise to the island of Ioannina for a visit.It has Byzantine churches and the museum of Ali Pasa who was governor of the city during the Ottoman period.It has also restaurants and souvenir shops there.The ticket for this cruise costs 2€ per route. This is a really big lake! At night, it looks like there are islands in the middle, there are lots of camping spots around this lake. When you wake up in the morning, you will be able to see that those "islands" are tall grass. There are also lots of animals and big birds around this lake.

This was by far one of the best tours we took 😊 Olga was super responsive, with excellent communication. They arrived on time, and the equipment was top quality. They were very patient and gave the kids time to change into wetsuits. Yiannis, the guide, was very clear and explained everything to us calmly. The tea break in the middle was right on the spot! Highly recommended — I would definitely go again! My kid Adds: The Guide Yiannis was really patient and nice. He explained very well and I learned the movements of the oar. What a sight! Short hike along beautiful clear rock pools with the amazing local striated rocks. Recommend wearing sneakers if you plan to go far back. This place was great, cool in the shade. Formed through both natural and human made interventions.

Beautiful nature point on the road side to micro papaginko. Nature carved a small water way in between rock walls that are built from layers of straightstone plates. Now its end of September and there is only a very little amount of water yet it is enough to seat, listen and relax.

Imagine a landscape straight out of a fairy tale. Impressive rocks sculpted by nature, forming small, crystal-clear 'pools'. The feeling is magical, as if you're in a hidden secret of Pindos.

A beautiful game of nature in the heart of Pindos Mountains. The water made its way through the rocks the last 200 million years and made some breathtaking formations of stone. I guess in some years the water is more and in some others less, regarding how much it rained. So don't get disappointed if the water is less. Enjoy this majestical work of nature.

A beautiful landscape of successive natural pools formed within the rock by the constant flow of the stream. Hopefully it will keep on flowing.... Do respect the environment if you go. No littering, no sunblock in such delicate surroundings.

In the summer (Augest) the pools are not realy fool. There is 1 big pool that is great. Its fun to go as far as you could but at some point you need snapling equipment to continue. Its a great location sins its only 10 min walk from your car

4th of May 2022. The Averoff Museum of Neohellenic Art was opened during August 1988. It has the permanent exhibition and many others from time to time. The permanent exhibition has 250 works by the major Greek painters, printmakers and sculptors of the 19th and 20th century, like Fasianos, Egonopoulos, Lytras, Volanakis, Parthenis, Hadjikyriakos-Ghikas, Moralis and many more. Two of the paintings that we used to ‘meet’ in our books at school, there are also there. These two are: the dude eating his watermelon of 1880 (ο μάγκας που τρώει καρπούζι) from Pantazis Periklis and the burning of the Turkish flagship by Kanaris (Η πυρπόληση της τουρκικής ναυαρχίδας από τον Κανάρη) of 1873 by Lytras Nikiforos. Still life is alternating with colorful landscapes and angelic faces are alternating with sad ones in this museum full of history, that you should not miss. Of course, for those who seek the unexpected, there is the room with the modern means of expression. Take a look and enjoy. Well worth a visit. Gives the visitor an interesting perspective of revolution-era Greece. There is also a black and white photo collection at the basement, which shows how life was seventy years ago.

Very interesting museum that show all the info regarding the mill as also the procedure of grinding the seeds. Also, in the premises of the mill, there is a nice park, cafeteria, cinema.

Around Christmas this park is transformed into a beautiful theme park with lots of food, games, activities for children & not only! Negative aspects is the fact that usually is overcrowded and you should be careful with children, not to get lost, and also it is necessary to have much more toilet places and much cleaner!

This is a nice museum for a short visit and on the day we visited, it was free (may always be free, not sure?). While there are digital learning devices, there is not any real practical exhibits to speak of, that would have made it better for our son.

The Great Meteoron Monastery is an incredible place to visit and truly lives up to its name. We reached it by hiking through the forest from Kastraki, and the walk was magical – quiet, scenic, and full of breathtaking views of the rocks and valleys. The monastery itself is steeped in history, with beautifully preserved frescoes, impressive architecture, and interesting exhibits that give you a real sense of the past. The views from the top are simply unforgettable. It’s a bit of a workout to get there, but the experience is one you’ll remember forever.

A beautiful and well-preserved monastery with many authentic and original details. The real highlight is the rock formations. We visited in autumn, and the mix of colorful leaves, green bushes, and stone cliffs was breathtaking. You can see the monasteries on top of the rocks without needing drones. A truly magical place.

Calm and peacefull place with astonishing views..although its quite crowded in day time. Maybe theres less people in the morning..Dont forget to wear longpant and women - a dress covering legs and shoulders. Be respectfull for the rules inside, this is a place not for selfies or photos but fot prayer and meditation.

Great views and beautiful monastery. Went early morning as it is quite a lot of steps down & up to get to the entrance. Entrance fee was €5, as with the other monasteries. There is a nice, large gift shop here with a variety of religious gifts, honey, wines, soaps etc.

The most popular monastery at Meteora, and I can see why. Despite the many steps to get to the top, there were tons of people walking up and down. The views are incredible, they have various museums inside the walls, and plenty of art inside the churches. This one was the most complete in terms of showing you the historical way of life of the monks living there.

This is a truly surreal and stunning experience. Highly recommend at least once on your life. We took a tour bus which on total is a 11 hr day but totally worth it with no hassle. Costs £5 each to enter each mosque.

Great place for a day trip. If you are driving, you will enjoy the wide and safe road. You can go to the top by driving your car. Hiking route is also available. Overall, the scenic view is breathtaking and humans capability of building churches and residences are absolutely surreal!

An amazing experience - far exceeded our expectations. We visited St Nicholas & Varlaam monastries. St Nicholas was small with lots of steps but was fantastic. Not very busy. Varlaam was larger & easier to access. The art work in both is stunning. Having a guide to explain was useful. The views are breathtaking.

We absolutely loved the visit to Monasteries in Meteora. It was so peaceful! We visited two - one with Monks and second with Nuns. Both were equally beautiful and well maintained. Views from these locations were breathtaking!! 😍😍

I wonder who put less than 5 stars. I visited many beautiful places and I lived in Rome, but I have rarely been as speechless as here. Simply wonderful! I took hundreds of pictures from every angle. A must-see!!!

I was overwhelmed!!! The unique beauty of the area topped off with the monasteries on top of the unique rock formations was breathtaking. We hired a guide and went as early as possible. Dress code for men and woman to enter the monastery. 5€ to enter each one. A couple are a lot of climbing up stairs.

The monastery is very beautiful, and the museum is worth a visit as well. It has a dress code requiring women to cover their arms and legs, and men to cover their legs. While the rules are not strictly enforced, coverings can be borrowed if needed. Some visitors are checked more closely than others. From the monastery, you also get a wonderful view, and the stairs are easier to manage than expected.

This monastery is a must. One of the biggest and most impressive ones. It holds a church with great byzantine art, and also a very interesting museum with ancient books, customs, artifacts and even video clips showing the life in the monastery 100+ years ago. There is also the winery with its huge wine barrel and the old man operated lift. You really had to trust your friends back there... Photography is allowed only in part of the monastery.

Varlaam Monastery is one of the most impressive and beautifully preserved monasteries in Meteora. We walked from the town of Kastraki through the forest to get there, and the journey itself was absolutely beautiful – peaceful, green, and full of incredible views along the way. The monastery at the top is rich in history, with stunning frescoes, well-kept grounds, and a calm, spiritual atmosphere. The panoramic views from above are breathtaking and make the climb completely worth it. A must-visit when exploring Meteora – both majestic and deeply peaceful.

We visited only two monasteries and this was one of them. We arrived around 10 am on Saturday morning and although there were crowds it got even more crowded when we were about to leave at 11 am. It is easily accessible and there is decent amount of parking places and parking is free.

As with the other monasteries of the meteora, it is built for worship like a fort. Initally it was accessible only through the main tower with the use of a rope net. The stairway in use today is a rather recent addition. What you are about to experience is astonishing architecture upon an impossible location with view to a landscape that seems carved out of divine imagination at its best. Magnificent religious artifacts, ancient scriptures and other interesting items exhibited are a bonus. Enjoy!... but do so respectfully. This is a home and a place of prayer for people fully devoted into this way of life.

A beautiful monastery with amazing views and rich history. Entry is €5 per person (cash only), the same as at the Great Meteoron. Souvenirs here are noticeably more expensive compared to those at the Great Meteoron, but the visit itself is worth it

Extremely beautiful. Mind the dress code yes there is a dress code. It was crowded with buses but worth the wait. Incredibly beautiful.

I've been to several caves in my travels and this may be the very best. It's well laid out, easily accessible, well illuminated and the formations are close enough to the path that you can fully appreciate their beauty. Tip: Rent a bike and make this stop part of your trip around the peninsula. The terrain is flat and it's a beautiful, quiet and peaceful trip that's easily completed within a couple of hours, including stops. Perfect for relatively inexperienced cyclists.

Great place to visit. A luxury tour where we were the only ones in a cave listening to the guide from the speakers in our native language. The cave isn't big but it's totally worth it. Definitely recommend for a visit. Thank you for a wonderful hospitality!

Took about 20 or so minutes to go through the cave system. Everything was paved with concrete real well and easy to navigate. There are some steps in it and some areas are slippery with some moisture but nothing serious. Our tour was self guided as they graciously played an audio recording throughout the cave in English so we could understand the areas and the history of the cave. We were grateful they did this for people that only spoke English. The areas were all very interesting and unique in their own way. Some had water, some had more stalagmites/stalagtites than others and some had larger open areas. Very unique place to visit while up in Kastoria. Such a beautiful area!

Interesting cave. You can take a taxi going here or just walk if its a good day. One of the highlights when visiting Kastoria. It takes about 20 minutes to explore inside the cave. Very well lit and safe. They play the audio guide in different languages. Just let them know which language you prefer.

Wonderful experience. Quite long. Amazing atmosphere. Well organized.Different labirents. Well lighted. But take a strong electric torch 🔦 with you if possible. Go there by walking. The road is mesmerising also.

This was a great place to visit, the formations in the cave were beautiful. It was informative too, and you get to learn about the cave through a speaker as you walk through. You do get a limited time however, around 15 minutes before you get hurried along. I think this was good though as it's not too busy when you are in there. Would recommend when in Kastoria.

Great cave, nicely located outside Kastoria, just by the lake. A nearby cafe. The cave itself is very nice, still active stalectites!! Entrance only 6 euros, there is a guided vocal naration inside. Very recommended.

It is such a picturesque lake, sourrounded by high mountains. It realy worths to go walking by the lake's shore in the city of Kastoria, or even do the whole circle of the ake with bicycle or a car.

A great place to visit and enjoy nature. There are many cafes, and restaurants along its shores to enjoy the view. You can also drive along to a significant part of its shoreline. Famous route for jogging, walking, exercising as well as fishing. Best visit at warm periods (may~august) or even autumn to have an amazing experience.

Beautiful. In winter the lake can freeze and people can walk on it. There are swans and other birds living in it. Lovely scenery and reflections in the water.

Beautiful area. The trip to the village at the top of the mountain, through the village to the briefing hall and down to the conservatory is quite a remarkable experience. Great place little bit hidden in forests and mountains. If you’re nearby, I’d strongly recommend this little walking trip - see nature reservation with few bear just close enough for good observation. Great place run by enthusiasts people.

This was a great experience. We arrived early on a Sunday for the first tour of the day, this was great as we got the tour guide to ourselves so had the opportunity to ask plenty of questions. It was amazing to see the bears so close, they are beautiful animals. I believe you can see the wolves and lynxes afterwards using the same ticket, but unfortunately we didn't have time! There's a gift shop too which is worth a visit, we now have a cuddly bear toy named Simon, after our guide!

Interesting place to visit and to see a part of Greek history and culture. We were disappointed that the tower is closed and cannot be accessed. Also, everything is located outside and since it was raining, the visit was not ideal.

Nice castle on the outside. And also nice views on the sea. However, its interior is quite poor and of low interest. The entrance fee is 10 euros which is definitely not worth it unfortunately. It should be maximum 5 euros. Also a coffee shop with tables viewing the brilliant sea would be a good idea.

Wonderful piece of history to walk around. Has a museum that has historical objects. I personally enjoyed looking at the weight and measuring devices they used in that era. Did not like that they did not have free public restrooms inside the exhibit .

Not much but a few ruins was saved, but the view from the ancient walls is stunning. The staff is very friendly and kind. Too bad there's no possibility to climb up on the donjon.

If you are nearby, this castle is definitely worth seeing. It's a bit steeper when you climb up, but at the top you have a beautiful view of the surroundings, in addition to the historical landmark. The walls are well preserved and when you are there you feel as if you are in another time.

A beautiful and quite intact castle from the period when the Latin Empire had occupied these parts of Greece. The crusader castle was built in the period between 1204 and 1222 and it was used to control the roads connecting Macedonia and Thessaly.

The view from the castle to the sea and mount Olympos is amazing. The ticket is a bit expensive compared to the “experience”. The castle should be better maintained and the tower should be opened for visitors, than it would be 5 starts. It is worth visiting.

I am glad that I came here by walking from Litochoro for 2 hours. I didn’t take the big bus tours from Thessaloniki or Katerini, saving much money, & I am free to stroll leisurely on the lush green meadows for 2 hours. It is a good place to relax & to enjoy the charming scenery. most magnificencia is the Hellenistic theater.

Great place to visit! Within the site you can see an incredible amount of sanctuaries and remains of the old city! Take yourself round two hours to see the whole site! I agree with the lack of quality concerning the signs, that’s why I deducted one star!

Sadly, the trip here was really not worth it. The site is not well maintained, clearly there are many renovations taking place since there were tapes, tarps, fences and trucks/industrial vehicles around many of the sites, which of course we were not informed of. Some areas are very overgrown and unsafe (we came across snakes), poorly marked, no clear trails to follow and signposts with no signs in them explaining what you're looking at. The signs that are present mostly have illustrations or photos of the ruins as we can see in front of us already, as opposed to graphics showcasing what the buildings once were. It leaves a lot to the imagination and if I could give you any advice it would be to go to the museum instead, as the ticket price is actually worth it there. I can see some beautiful photos in older reviews and regret we could not see the same.

It is a really fascinating place, you feel like you’re walking through history… but for 10 Euros a ticket they really could print some new info posters. One A1 poster costs less than 10 Euros.

One of the best museums we ever visited! And we visited a lot! Presentation, location, historical significance, atmosphere! And artefacts!! Just WOW! The whole story... It's like it's all just a myth! But it's real!! And unfolding in front of your eyes - in such a unbelievable beauty, preserved like it's untouched... One of these things needed to be seen to be believed - and when you see it, it's almost unbelievable :D

I visited the site of the Royal Tombs of Aigai in Vergina and the nearby museum, which is located about one kilometer away: I started from the underground complex, where I spent an hour and a half among burial chambers adorned with frescoes and grave goods such as jewelry, ceremonial weapons, and pottery, which showcase the craftsmanship and religiosity of the Macedonians in conceiving the passage to the afterlife and a short introductory video that contextualizes the archaeological discoveries. Afterwards, I reached the separate Museum, dedicating about an hour to its exploration: the spaces are organized with essential captions and 3D reconstructions. For Italians over 18, the ticket costs 20 euros per person, while those under eighteen enter for free; the price may seem high, but it includes access to all rooms and enriches the visit with multimedia insights. Also included in the price is a museum detached from the tomb structure, located roughly 1 km away. I appreciated the cleanliness and the calibrated lighting that highlights the details of the artifacts, even though at first it may seem a bit excessive (the rooms are completely dark except for the area where the artifacts are to be admired), without causing discomfort to the eyes, and the accessible path with multilingual panels (English, Greek). I recommend inquiring privately for a guide, if you want one, because the facility does not provide it. Overall, it is a vivid and engaging

Here is the magnificent tomb of Philip II as well as the famous golden urn and other valuable personal belongings of the great King of the Macedonians. The unique frescoes like the vivid representation of the Abduction of Persephone, reveal the achievements in the arts and painting during the years of reign of the glorious Macedonian Kingdom.

Stunning place, recreated in the same underground tomb where it was discovered. Extraordinary, detailed recreation of a myriad pieces found. Perhaps the best designed museum in Greece.

Must visit! This tomb left me speechless. The museum guide made the tour twice as interesting with his attitude to the history of this great ruler and all the details he mentioned to us in addition. Thank you!

A unique experience that not only showcases in a mystic way masterpieces of ancient craft, but also takes you in a detailed journey through the burial rights of ancient Macedonians. And let’s not forget that this is the place where one of the most significant figures of the ancient world was buried and everything is connected to Alexander the Great! Definitely a must see and should be combined with the royal palace and the new museum.

Wonderful museum with incredible exhibits! The light work is fantastic and makes you see the exhibits in detail. The ticket costs 20 euros but you use the same for the Polycentric museum which is about 1 km away. It's worth a visit like nothing else!

My wife and I visited a few different museums while we were on vacation last Sept-Oct in Greece, with this one in Pella being the standout. Unbelievable interesting history, classical artefacts, beautiful historical building, and heaps of information about Pella and of course King Philip and his son Alexander the Great. As a Greek Australian this was an experience I'll never forget as I studied 'Hellenic history' at Greek School over 5 years and to now physically visit and see it with my own eyes was something else. We arrived by car from Thessaloniki mid morning with plenty of parking available. A must if your ever in Nth Greece / Thessaloniki. Highly recommended to everyone.

A modern building housing and presenting in a well planned way a stunning collection ranging from unique mosaics, over exquisite statuettes, to intricate gold jewelry and masks. You won't find impressive marble statues here (beside two dazzling depictions of Alexander the Great), but there are dozens of works of art that could make any renaissance and baroque artist blush with modesty. You don't have to be an artist yourself to be swept away by the beauty of the artifacts.

Beautiful museum with so many interesting artifacts and knowledge of Pella. We stopped at the Pella site not knowing anything about it and then entered the museum and were blown away with all of the stuff found there and the history of the site. At first the site kind of underwhelmed us but then when we learned just how big it was and what all the areas were used for, it was just insane. The museum is laid out very well and looks clean and well kept. All the artifacts were in Greek and English which we appreciated. We spent between an hour or two at the museum and pretty much read it all. There is a small gift shop and eatery downstairs which was nice after being in the hot sun at the site. Running across this museum in Pella by chance was a great highlight of our trip and I would very much recommend visiting it and learning more about Pella.

Greece has been investing a lot of money in new, state of the art museums the last few years. This is one of them, and a definitely “don’t miss.” It holds many of the artifacts found during archaeological excavations in the nearby ruins of Pella, such an important historic site for Greece, and certainly for world history. I visited while on a day tour and really needed more time. There’s quite a bit to see, and some of the best is on the second floor. Make sure you don’t skip anything! Combining this with a visit to the ruins is a wonderful way to bring Pella to life.

An excellent new museum — a beautiful, well-designed building with interestingly presented exhibits and good lighting. The €10 entrance fee is well worth it. I don’t recommend going to see the archaeological site for another €10; it’s better to visit just the museum — that’s more than enough to learn about the history of the region and ancient Pella, and to see videos and photos from the excavations.

Beautiful and family-friendly cave experience! Petralona Cave was absolutely beautiful and well worth a visit. The temperature inside is a comfortable +17°C all year round, so there’s no need to dress warmly. The entrance fee was €10 for adults, and seniors (65+) paid €5 — we visited in the off-season. Children under 18 enter for free, which was great for us since we had a baby and a 3-year-old with us. The cave itself is relatively small and compact — perfect for kids. The loop path takes around 20 minutes to complete, with many stunning formations to admire. Some parts of the path are a bit narrow, but still manageable. In front of the cave, there’s a kiosk and a picnic/waiting area with an incredible view of the surrounding area and the sea — perfect for watching the sunset! We enjoyed some ice cream and coffee from the kiosk while waiting for our tour to start. You can either take a short walk (about 800m) up to the cave or use the little transfer train from the parking area. The round trip on the train costs €3 per person, and children under 3 go free. We didn’t visit the museum (it requires a separate ticket), but overall, the service was friendly, and the experience was great — highly recommend it, especially for families!

A great change in scenery. It is a great place to take a break on a hot day - other than on a beach or inside. Things go fast even on a busy day and rather affordable (€10 for the cave, €5 for the museum and €3 for the train). Tour is 20 - 30 minutes without guide (for our group). I would recommend the museum first and cave after. Outside view is nice, too. The terrace near the entrance is a nice place to enjoy a drink.

The weather was bad so we decided to visit the caves after looking on google. The car park is a basic dirt road and we did struggle to get parked. Some cute little souvenir shops reasonably priced…again basic but fine. We got the train to the caves which took a couple of minutes and cost a few euros each. Once you are at the top to the entrance of the cave it is quite exposed with a couple of shelters, a coffee shack and reasonably clean toilets. Once we had paid there was a little wait before the last group came out of the cave, around 10 minutes or so. Once we were in the cave we were memorised!! What an amazing place! Really cleverly lit with secure steps throughout. We loved every second of it with such amazing photo opportunities. It was like being in another world. We were encouraged to stay with the group but we wanted to stay longer hehe! We walked back to the car chatting about our amazing experience!

Great fan of stalagtites/stalagmites caves, so we had to visit this one and it is definitely worth the trip. Currently, the entrance fee is 10 Euro (Oct 2025). Since we have been there close to the end of the season our group was comfortably small (I can imagine that in the summertime the visit will be very crowdy and not so quiet and comfortable). There is a parking lot (with some deserted tourist shops close by) and the possibility to be carried the 300 or so meters to the cave by a small train. Otherwise it's a 10 min walk slightly up the hill. After buying the tickets we had to wait a bit, approx. 10-15 min until enough people had gathered for the tour. The cave itself and all the formations were so amazing, I enjoyed it very much. The guide explained everything in greek and english. Whole tour is about 1 km and approx. 30 min. We did not visit the small museum with the bone collections, because we were more interested in the formations, but this would have been possible with a 5-euro fee and approx. 20 min.

This is an incredible cave and there is a great museum on site too. Both have recently reopened after significant renovation. There is s short walk uphill from the car park. Alternatively you can take the land train. There is a coffee shop and toilets outside the cave and also near the car park

A LOT of stuff to uncover. The guide who lead me and my group was very kind. He explained the history behind the cave very well and I was intrigued the entire time. Would recommend visiting if you’re in the Halkidiki area!

By far one of the best in the world, this cave amazes at every step. It’s a hidden gem of Greece and a must-see! A long labyrinth of corridors with awe-inspiring forms will leave you in wonder of the mystery of nature. Park by the shops and walk up the hill or take the noddy train. Reasonably priced tickets, discounts for children and pensioners, and a tour guide included. Thank you for such an amazing experience!

The tavern is traditionally cozy, and the food and service are excellent. The prices are reasonable and reflect the quality of the overall experience. The setting in the old town and the surrounding buzz create a typically Greek atmosphere that you will enjoy. I recommend the place and am glad we stopped by for lunch.

Everything is very nice and delicious. I have been coming to Thessaloniki for 3 years and I have been stopping by here for 3 years. The service and the quality of the employees are very good. Especially Niko, he was helpful in every way. I recommend you to follow Niko's suggestions. He has been very interested in us for 2 years. Definitely come here.

Nothing special. I expected something more impressive, but it turned out to be completely average. Lacks character, lacks feeling, and there’s nothing that would make me want to come back. I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re looking for something unique.

The food was delicious and the staff were very kind and attentive. I especially recommend the Marathos salad, which was very fresh, and the melted feta, which was the best I’ve ever had. At the end, we had complimentary ice cream. Will come back for sure!

A lovely Greek restaurant in the heart of Ladadika. It was a pleasure and I felt invited. They offered delicious meze and really tasty wine. Furthermore I enjoyed the hectic but lovely district and the area around the restaurant. A must go!

Top food and service..amazing Greek Salad, Fried Zuchini and superb Mussels in sauce...and a fantastic local Ouzo.... big portions best to share like we did.

Our hotel overlooks Aristotle Square, which is a huge public square lined by various restaurants; and which appears to be a major ‘go to’ place for locals and visitors alike. Very popular as the heat of the day dissipates.

A beautiful and lively spot in the heart of Thessaloniki! The square has lovely architecture, great cafés, and an amazing sea view. It’s perfect for a walk, coffee, or just relaxing and watching the city life. Especially nice in the evening when the lights come on. Definitely worth a visit!

Aristotle Square is a beautiful place. The crowd is quite crowded. It's close to the sea. It has its own flair. It is definitely worth a visit if you are in Thessaloniki.

Beautiful place plus you got the Kapani Market and crazy amount of gift shops to buy cute gift for everyone back home. Kapani Market is closed on Sundays.

On the one hand, you must go here when visiting Thessaloniki. It is the most famous landmark of the city and has a lot of history attached to it. On the other hand, it is rather expensive (at €8) for what is a relatively small (but interesting) museum. But I have to say that the views from the top are terrific. So Yes - go!

A wonderful place to visit! The White Tower is full of history and beautifully presented inside with clear displays and interactive exhibits. The climb to the top is easy, and the view over Thessaloniki and the sea is absolutely stunning. The staff were friendly and helpful. Definitely a must-see landmark when visiting the city!

Excellent attraction..6euro entry p.p. The walk up tonthe top with its several rooms and chambers along the way was really well worth it. You could easily spend 2 hours here going through the various write-ups & history. Some audio on English via your phone was available at key points. The views from the top are amazing. You see the length & breadth of the coast line and nearby hils. Apparantly you can see Mt. Olympus on a clear day...we were not so lucky.

This is a must when visiting Thessaloniki! The ticket is 6€ and children under 18 don't pay the ticket. This isn't just a place where you go for the view from the top (even though it's very beautiful), but it's also a museum. You have a couple of stops before you reach the top where you can learn more about the history lf Thessaloniki. You also get a free audio guide available in many languages free of charge! I couldn't recommend this place enough.

The White Tower of Thessaloniki is A MUST monument-museum-attraction to start, when visiting the city. Start with just inhaling and enjoyig from outside the spirit of the place.(White tower is a starting stop and for the Cultural line 50 - the local tourist live guided bus tour -2€ regular fee (https://www.oasth.gr/en/tourism/cultural-route). Entering inside the museum (6€ regular ticket) you can select from 13 languages in which to learn and understand better the history, culture, life, culinary, evolution of the city during your way up trough the seven levels to the top. The observation terrace is a perfect selfie's spot and also a greate way to orientate yourself in the next directions trough your journey felling in love with Thessaloniki... Enjoy!

A must place to visit if in town for the first time. The tower is multi leveled with each level having an exhibition of the city's history. It's not tiresome to climb as there are no steep steps and you have to stop to see the exhibits. At the top one can enjoy the excellent view of the city and the bay. There is also a museum shop that was not operating on the day we visited.

A nice place for tourists, a bit crowded especially during the season (July and August), there are a few beach bars that offer food and drinks for a reasonable price, but a pair of sunbeds can even reach the price of 40 euros, depending where you want to spend the day.

Lovely clear water, white sand. There are sunbeds at the hotel but areas with free space. There is a shower you can use at the hotel and your free to walk around no one bothers you.

The beach is perfect - crystal water, perfect sands. But there is no a lot of space, free zone - no comment, for two sunbeds and one umbrella - 20 Euro

One of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever been too. The water was crystal clear, very quiet beaches and beautiful atmosphere.

A great place for rest and relaxation, beautiful beaches for sunbathing on sun loungers that are combined with a bar and restaurant for ordering drinks and food. Cocktails or other drinks with food are delivered to the beach where you lie, sunbathe and drink cocktails and beer. The water in the sea is clean, warm, turquoise blue and transparent for swimming. We visited on 26 of October, even we came quite early it was overcrowded, not surprising since almost all Thessaloniki was there, including us came from abroad! We highly recommend to visit it, but please come on the service days earlier in order to find a place... I also recommend a small shop at the right corner of the church, it has much spiritual attributes, ikons, crosses, and even books! I found all the books of St Paisios only 15 Eur per one, so is the first place I recommend to visit in Thessaloniki! We definitely plan to come back again 🇨🇾🫶🏻

Don’t be afraid to put your trainers on and walk — Thessaloniki is full of beautiful churches, and the Holy Church of Saint Demetrius is definitely one not to miss! The Church of Saint Demetrius, or Hagios Demetrios is the main sanctuary dedicated to Saint Demetrius, the patron saint of Thessaloniki. Since 1988, it has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List as a part of the site Paleochristian and Byzantine monuments of Thessaloniki. The first church on the spot was constructed in the early 4th century AD, replacing a Roman bath. A Repeatedly gutted by fires, the church eventually was reconstructed as a five-aisled basilica in 629–634. This was the surviving form of the church much as it is today. The most important shrine in the city, it was probably larger than the local cathedral. Thessaloniki became part of the Ottoman Empire in 1430. About 60 years later, during the reign of Bayezid II, the church was converted into a mosque, known as the Kasımiye Camii after the local Ottoman mayor, Cezeri Kasım Pasha. The symbolic tomb however was kept open for Christian veneration. It functioned as a mosque (1493–1912). It was converted again to a church in 1912.

While the icons themselves are unique and moving, what is truly remarkable is the beautiful scent surrounding them, despite the absence of flowers. I wonder if someone could identify this unique fragrance? It’s a very welcoming space, so please feel free to stop by!

Sven took us down the coast with stops along the way to swim and snorkel from his comfortable yacht. Lots of soft drinks and sandwiches were included, and we stopped off at a beach bar where we could buy more drinks. Sven is friendly and so too were his other passengers (his boat was not over crowded and there was space to either sit in the sun or shade). Our day was enjoyable and memorable. The trip was easy to check out on the website and book through WhatsApp messaging. The trip is great value for money.

We couldn’t recommend Daysailing with Sven enough. The day was excellent from start to finish. The tour was easy to book direct on the website and Sven communicated with us via WhatsApp, which was super convenient. The weather was amazing, the sea calm and we met some lovely people. All while having a laugh and visiting some of the most beautiful swimming bays & beaches around Halkidiki. We were given our own cooler box with plenty of drinks and a lovely lunch. A SUP board & snorkel equipment was also supplied. This is a perfect trip for couples, friends, or families - highly recommend! ⭐️

We booked a sunset sailing trip with Sven in September 2025, for a special anniversary. The experience was absolutely perfect. Sven is a very hospitable and a very skilled sailor. The views of the Kassandra “leg” were great, we saw a pod of dolphins jumping all around the sailing boat “Sirena” and had time for swimming once the anchor was dropped. Then some drinks and delicious fruit, taking in a glorious sunset, before sailing back to shore. Would recommend very highly, unforgettable.

What a fantastic day! From the moment we boarded we felt very welcomed. Plenty of opportunities to swim, snorkel and attempt paddle boarding throughout the day. Not a moment felt rushed. Sven was a brilliant host, and we came away with many happy memories, including a mobile phone retrieved from the ocean floor by Olympic diver, aka, Sven 😉🤣....11/10 experience!

I joined the “Daysailing in Group” tour and had a great time. Sven really knows what he’s doing. He communicates very well and has such a positive attitude. The boat was clean, we didn’t have any issues, and everything was super enjoyable. The spots where we stopped to swim were absolutely beautiful. At one point, we went ashore with a Zodiac and visited a beach bar. 🍸 All in all, the organization was excellent. Thank to Sven and his son! 😊👍⛵️☀️🏊‍♂️🏝️

We had an amazing sailing experience with Daysailing. The captain’s many years of experience were evident in every part of the trip, and his friendly, confident manner made the whole journey even more enjoyable. We were lucky to catch a great wind, which gave us the chance to experience proper sailing at its best. The trip ended with delicious sandwiches prepared by the captain himself, adding a personal and thoughtful touch to the day. Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy both the thrill and the peace of being out on the water!

Great communication from the first minute, easy online booking, clear instructions for the meeting point, well balanced route, suitable for all ages, great secret spots for swimming and snorkeling ! Delicious sandwiches, cold drinks, served in personal cooler boxes and a lot of fun !!! We will come back for more !!

One of the most beautiful lakes in Greece. Good for bird watching, as many spieces of birds both rare and protected exist in the area. Also fish variety, beautiful forests and mountains around the lake. Boat tours are available. Local people are producing many traditional products (i.e. steaks, sausages, milk, sweets) from Buffalos which exist in the area. Good accommodation options at the nearby villages (i.e.Kerkini village).

Except nature which is beautiful, everything else looks straight out of a 3rd world country. Abandoned buildings, broken benches, poverty and a general feeling of misery. Local government looks non-existent which is normal since we’re talking about Greece.

Lots of birds a natural habitat.

Amazing place with tremendous flora and fauna. I believe there's no entrance fee as it's an open park. You can take a boat ride that will take you to a spot with most wild birds, it costs around 8 EUR per person. The place is great to visit each season. In the winter it will be full of pink flamingos and pelicans as they stay there for the cold months. In the summer there will be a much greater variety. When the waters go down, you'll be able to see the cattle. Make sure to take the camera!

Having read all of the following comments and having visited this area several times I have to say that "Despite the abandonment", which unfortunately prevails by the competent people the place is worthy of admiration !!! Why..? 1) One of the largest and most important wetlands in Greece. 2) More than 250 species of birds and not only. 3) Surrounded by 4 terms: Beles, Krussia, Hook & Mavrovouni. 4) There are over 10 activities that you can enjoy small adults, some of which are: boating on the lake, hiking, hiking. 5) Located near the town of Serres and the town of Sidirokastro. For a daily or even better two-day excursion, I would also recommend to visit: 1) Rupela Fort 2) Monastery of Agios Prodromos (Serres because there are 2 in the area) 3) Serres Town, valley & Acropolis 4) Loutra Sidirokastrou 5) In conclusion: May (We) be useless and we can not create and sustain anything, but it seems, however, that Nature itself is a struggle for survival.

I went here in the autumn, it's not the best experience I have ever had, but for a chill weekend with your family this is for sure a good place, you can have a boat trip, horse riding, etc...

A very peaceful and tranquil place to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the monastery as it must have been centuries ago. You truly realise the meaning of serenity here. Well kept, authentic, and with free admission. The Rozhen Monastery is one of the oldest and best-preserved monasteries in Bulgaria, dating back to the 13th century. You can see stunning views of the surrounding hills, mountains and vineyards. The monastery is famous for its beautiful frescoes, wood-carved iconostasis, and peaceful courtyards. Unlike some larger monasteries, it has a very intimate and authentic feel, making it a true spiritual retreat.

Very peaceful place with breathtaking views, so well preserved it looks like the time stopped at 18th century- going there is like travelling in time.

Tips for Visitors: Wear modest clothing that covers your shoulders and knees. Be respectful of the sanctity of the site. Consider making a donation to support the monastery's upkeep. Combine your visit with a hike to the Melnik Earth Pyramids for a truly unique experience.

It was interesting. A place sacred and peaceful. Worth the visit. The monks have even opened the old rector so you can see it.

By far the most calm monastery I have visited in Bulgaria. I have been here 25 years ago and now, a month ago. It is very well maintained and the interior of the church is magnificent. One of the only places I have visited in Bulgaria where the candles are self-service and one leaves money for the candle and gets the amount of candles corresponding to the left money. The young guy sitting inside the church was kind enough to explain to me why one of the icons inside the church has a donkey head in stead of human. The parking is a bit away from the main entrance in case you have mobility issues. I would definitely come back to this monastery. If you fancy buying souvenirs or local produce such as jams there are few vehicles parked on the parking area. Lovely view of Melnik hills from there.

It's a really underrated place to visit... Absolutely a must. The views are jaw dropping, the facilities are good and it costs nothing....you are not allowed to film or take pictures in the main chapel,but that was not an issue. Overall I would highly recommend ❤️🇧🇬

An absolute gem! There's no excuse not to visit this amazing natural beauty! Even if it is out of your way, don't think twice to reroute. The drive is very panoramic and you will have a chance to make your own desktop and mobile background wallpapers. The best of all, you will be met by a professional speleolog, who will guide you and explain everything about the cave. Our guide was amazing and she explained everything in English and Greek and answered all out questions. Bring some worm clothes, longsleeved, since the temperature is around 17(+/-) Celsius throughout the year. You will also have a chance to visit other points of interest in the vicinity and buy some locally made products. If you are coming from the seaside, you could even pick up some discount coupons (-2 EUR per adult) in local hotels and tourist information offices. Lastly, after you visited the cave, I do suggest to visit Alistrati village and have a meal in one of the taverns.

Very nice experience, the cave is big, the tour is about 1 hour if you keep the pace going. Wear a jacket as the temp inside is 18 celsius even if outside you got 40.

A must-visit if you’re in the area! The Alistrati Cave is absolutely stunning — a truly unique experience. We were lucky to have a great tour with Vasilis. Keep in mind that visits are only allowed with a tour guide, and tours run every hour, so if you arrive early, it’s worth the wait!

Magnificent place to visit. We went there on a family trip. Kids were fascinated with the surroundings. My eldest son made a parallel with minecraft and his fantasy ran wild from there on.

What a pefect day - Undeground - at the Alistrati Cave! When you're near Drama or Serres be sure to visit the Alistrati Cave (Σπήλαιο Αληστράτι) to see a fantastic natural wonder, a world underground with impressive stalactites and stalagmites! A guide takes you on a journey through the underworld (the path is well lit) and at the end, there is a lovely little taverna with homemade food and cold frappes. Perfect.

Well organised tour with a knowledgeable and multilingual guide into a wonderful cave full of glorious stalactites and stalagmites. Well worth a visit - wheelchair accessible and about 1km long (each way).
