Muzey Utyuga

Museum

Nestled in a vibrant old merchant's house, Muzey Utyuga is a delightful and quirky museum that showcases an impressive collection of irons. Visitors can explore this charming two-story mansion located just across from the Perslavl Kremlin. The second floor houses the fascinating exhibition, while the first floor features a shop where you can pick up unique souvenirs.
I visited the museum a while ago and was amazed by the guide. He was so inspiring and fun. I'd never thought about iron history, usage, etc but he was so passionate about that so I was all ears. It turned out all of that was quite interesting. Recommended! Not sure about English version tho

Here is a museum of Flat Irons in Pereslavl-Zalessky. There are a lot of models which we've never seen before. Hundreds irons have shown on upstairs while the ground floor is a souvenir shop.

(Translated by Google) We visited this museum on July 1st. I really liked the museum itself and the story of the guide Ksenia. We travel a lot, often go on different excursions, there is something to compare with. Ksenia not only spoke competently and answered all questions professionally, but the presentation of the material itself creates a relaxed, creative atmosphere, which, of course, is very captivating. She joked and spoke emotionally. So we recommend everyone to visit this museum and, if you’re lucky, listen to the guide Ksenia. Perhaps all the tour guides at the museum are wonderful, but we had a wonderful time with her. Moreover, there were not only adults, but also teenagers, and they also “got it.”

The exhibition is located on the second floor, on the first floor you can buy souvenirs in the shop. The history of the museum begins in 1999, when Andrei Nikolaevich Vorobyov purchased an old building that housed communal apartments. The land was bought, the mansion was restored and the museum opened in June 2002. Currently, the collection includes over 200 irons of different weights, sizes and operating principles. Carbon, steam, alcohol, electric. You can get acquainted with the whole variety of irons during a short excursion, designed for 15-20 minutes.

Museum
Historical landmark
Preserved 1500s residence of Russia's first tsar, Ivan Grozny, also known as Ivan the Terrible.
The final stop on our wonderful day tour of what is termed the Golden Ring taking in a few historic villages with a great deal of history. The Alexandrov Kremlin is also known as the Alexandrovskaya Sloboda and served as the residence of Tsar Ivan the Terrible from 1564 to 1581. It is a big complex and includes the Trinity Cathedral from 1513, the Assumption Nunnery which was established in the second half of the 17th century and the Tsar's Private Church with its unique fresco paintings and white-stone carved portal. It was a nice stop as our final sight seeing for a great day.

Alexandrovskaya village (Александровская слобода) is known from the XV century. From 1505 she served as the country residence of Grand Duke Vasily III, from 1564 to 1581 - the residence of Tsar Ivan the Terrible (actually the capital of the state, the center of Oprichnina). The Trinity Cathedral (1513), the Intercession Church (16th century, was part of the palace of Ivan the Terrible) survived.

Beautiful and interesting place!
Juan T — Google review
Alexandrov Sloboda was the residence of Ivan Grozni. Often in English he is interpreted as Ivan the terrible. However it is not accurate and what does it mean is his presence generates fear. He was someone who integrated Russia and unfortunately after him the Romanov dynasty took over the reigns of Russia. For some years he renounced his kingly power and entrusted the Kingship to some subordinate and lived in Alexandrov in silence and prayer. Later he went back to Moscow and took over power. Ivan Grozni gave a holistic foundation for Russia.

Gremyachiy Klyuch

Mentioned on
1 list
Monastery
Nature & Parks
Gremyachiy Klyuch monastery is located in a secluded area, surrounded by dense forest and has natural springs. The monastery comprises of a wooden church and a restaurant, adding to its serene environment. The beauty of this place can be appreciated through its picturesque surroundings and rustic architecture. It offers a peaceful haven for those seeking spiritual solace or simply looking to escape the city's hustle and bustle.
Founded by St. Sergius of Radonezh, located on the right bank of the Vondiga River, 500m. south of the village of Vzglyadnevo in the Sergiev Posad district of the Moscow region. On the territory of the Gremyachiy Klyuch you will find several sources of healing water, closed cabins with jets, a large immersion font, in which the sacrament of baptism is performed for those who wish. Also locker rooms, gazebos, alleys, wooden bell towers, several temples. The complex is the official courtyard of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra.
Santosh D — Google review
I stopped at this place at the same time as my visit to Sergiev Posad. I used to read a lot about sights and decided to take a look. In general, very interesting. Ancient buildings, classic Russian landscapes. The peculiarity is that those springs that gush from the mountain are very beautifully decorated, the water is very cold, crystal clear and very tasty. You can draw water for yourself for free. There is enough fonts here and you can take a dip if you want. Please bring towels and a change of clothing with you in advance. Look for the temperature outside and take care of your health. Getting to this place is easy enough. On navigation from Sergiev Posad 30 kilometers, from Moscow about 70 km. There is one peculiarity - the last 700 meters (half a mile) is a bumpy road without asphalt pavement 🤪. In general, you can overcome this part in any car, even an ordinary sedan can handle it. I was driving an SUV with high clearance so there were no problems. In rainy weather, take shoes that do not get wet, crocs-shoes will do perfectly 😜. One more way to get the destination is to leave the vehicle at the point where the asphalt ends ( in case you’re worried about damaging the underside of your car) and walk the rest of the way for half a mile. It’s pretty exciting! Many visitors do exactly like that! As an avid photographer, I have made many good shots. I rate it five stars and deduct one for the awful stretch of road in front of this sightseeing.
John S — Google review
On the territory of the saint springs "Gremyachiy", you will find several wellsprings, private booths with small waterfall, a large baptistery with locker room, and places for relax. Also, on the territory, you will find several wooden churches and bell towers which was made in ancient style of Russian architecture. !Temperature of water in wellsprings and baptistery 6 - 7 degree (~44°F) constantly!

One of the main values are portraits that belonged to the Musin-Pushkin family, including Rokotov’s painting “Portrait of Princess Ekaterina Alekseevna Volkonskaya.” There are also originals: Aivazovsky, N.N. Ge (author’s repetition) “Peter I interrogates Tsarevich Alexei Petrovich in Peterhof”, Shishkin, Popov “Troika”, Kuznetsov “Sleeping” (his daughter is depicted), Bogolyubov (the second most important marine painter) , Myasoedov, Pimonenko “The Last Ray”, Zhukovsky “Snowdrops”, Roerich “Castle”. You can independently familiarize yourself with the large collection of icons. Most of the icons are from the 18th-19th centuries; there are also exhibits from the 16th century. The origin of the icons is from estates, some of the icons are of unknown origin.

The staircase to the 2nd floor has not been washed since its foundation. The exhibits are interesting, but what condition are they in! Dust, dirt, faded photos. The art gallery looks better, there are many worthy works. Are these originals? How the temperature and humidity conditions are maintained with open windows. It's a shame that such a stunning building is being used so poorly. The money was debited from our cards, but the barcode still hadn't appeared after 20 minutes. We approached the cashier with this problem, where they rudely told us that it wasn't their problem. I agree with this, but it could have been said calmly. In the end, we bought a ticket with our own money and went into the art gallery. I wanted to take a photo, the museum attendant looked at me intently, after which she made a remark to me to move away from the painting, although the painting was 15 cm away. I moved away, the young man took another photo of me, but they didn't like this outcome either. A number of inappropriate comments were made by ALL the attendants, telling us to move away from here, not to go there, that they would call security now, although we walked like everyone else, didn't touch anything with our hands, and it was not forbidden to take photos. Let's sum it up, the museum staff is rude, they don't want to solve technical problems. The atmosphere is terrible, they constantly stare at you, as if they were not museum guards, but prison guards.

The Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra is a walled Orthodox monastery founded by a 14th-century saint, featuring church frescoes dating back to 1655. It's the main spiritual shrine of the Russian Orthodox Church and a remarkable example of Russian art. The monastic ensemble includes architectural masterpieces such as the Trinity Cathedral, adorned with icons by masters of the school of Andrei Rublev, and the Assumption Cathedral, which replicates the one in Moscow Kremlin.
This is one of the most significant monasteries in Russia and a spiritual center of the Russian Orthodox Church. It is located in the town of Sergiyev Posad, about 70 kilometers northeast of Moscow being founded in 1337 by St. Sergius of Radonezh. It is beautiful and features a stunning collection of buildings, including the Trinity Cathedral, which houses the relics of St. Sergiu. The monastery is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a major pilgrimage destination. We really enjoyed the variety of buildings and inside collections of art and icons.

Visited here in September, 2014. This unbelievably colorful abbey (or cathedral?) is the center of the area called "Sergiyev Posad". According to what I have googled, this abbey is like a symbol of Russian Orthodox Church. You can go there by train from a station in Moscow, taking about 1 hour. It's long a little bit, but you don't have to change a train on the way, so it might be just a great chance to see beautiful sceneries of the Moscow suburb from a train window. Personally I guess those who haven't been to Russia can never imagine this country really likes something colorful, especially churches and palace, but it is not the case. Once you have come here, sort of stereotype in your mind would be changed.

Holy Trinity Sergius Lavra. A historical legacy of the historical development of the orthodox church in Russia, The building is shaped like a broad fortress and inside there are several buildings such as churches, monasteries and other buildings. In this place, you will find a lot of priests coming in and out between the prayer hall and the dormitory. When you enter the church complex you will see a magnificent gate with various paintings on the ceiling. The thick walls which partly start to peel with age but are maintained and well cared for. Besides being actively used as a place of worship, this place is also a museum. If you have free time you can stop by on the left side of the entrance there is a cafe run by a church that sells typical Russian food and according to the menu, all foods sold there are also menus of priests and residents of the monastery. Inside the area, you can find several shops selling various souvenirs, complete from key chains and simple magnets to beautiful and expensive icons. If you like jewelry and crystal work you can also buy it there. If you feel hungry around there is a bread shop, cafe and fresh fruit seller in the area.

The Valenki Museum in Myshkin may be small, but it offers an interesting tour that delves into the history of felting. Visitors can learn about the process of making felt boots and even discover some unconventional uses for them, like curing a hangover. The museum showcases a diverse collection of felt boots, including some adorned with rhinestones and beads. Additionally, there is an exhibition dedicated to various types of footwear made from felt.

The city is home to the Valenok Museum, a unique museum dedicated to traditional Russian felted footwear. It was opened in 2000 after the successful exhibition and sale "Russian Valenki." The choice of Myshkin for the museum is not accidental - for over a century, the city has been a center for felt production, and local craftsmen have been renowned for their valenki. The museum features an extensive collection of valenki from various eras. Among the exhibits, you can see unusual models: boot-style felt boots, ice-skating felt boots, as well as designer options with embroidery, fur, and even in the "disco" style. A separate exhibition introduces visitors to the "sisters and brothers of the felt boot" - antique footwear from previous centuries, such as shoes, boots, and shoes. The exhibition is constantly updated, as many of the exhibited felt boots can be purchased. A distinctive feature of Myshkin felt boots is that they are made exclusively from the wool of the Romanov sheep, which gives them a characteristic gray color. The production process is completely manual: the wool is thoroughly washed, combed, and hand-felted, then boiled and dried. It takes about 2.5 kg of wool to create one pair. Interestingly, the manufacturing process has not changed for over two hundred years, and modern craftsmen follow the same techniques as their ancestors. In the past, felt boots were considered a valuable gift and were passed down through generations. In addition to their primary purpose, felt boots were also used for medical purposes, such as treating rheumatism, colds, and even hangovers. At the museum, you can learn about an old girl's divination for her future husband using a felt boot.

Nestled in the heart of a charming city, the Mouse Museum is a delightful tribute to an endearing little rodent that played a pivotal role in local folklore. According to legend, this tiny mouse saved Prince Fyodor Mstislavsky, the city's founder, which is why it features prominently in both the city's name and its ancient coat of arms. Established in 1990, this unique museum stands as the only one of its kind globally.

(Translated by Google) This is an exhibition dedicated to a cute rodent - a tiny mouse, which, according to a wonderful legend, saved the life of the city's founding father, Prince Fyodor Mstislavsky. Hence the mouse is included in both the name of the city and its ancient coat of arms. These facts prompted the creation and opening in 1990 of such an original museum, the only one in the world. So, on the coat of arms of Myshkin a bear is depicted as a totem animal from the time of the Yaroslavl principality, and the mouse is the savior of the prince. The city’s coat of arms also depicts the imperial crown. In Russia, only three cities have an imperial crown on their coat of arms - Moscow, St. Petersburg and Myshkin. The Mouse Museum itself is a unique place where you can see a huge collection of mice from different materials and countries. There are knitted mice, clay, cardboard, wooden, iron and many others. This is the world's only mouse museum, home to 13,348 mice. By the way, today there are about 6 thousand residents in the city itself. The museum is located in the wooden former house of merchant Titov, decorated with carvings. In fact, this is a museum of gifts; the collection includes exhibits donated to the museum. So, if you are going to Myshkin, take your own, original specimen of the rodent. The museum is popular, so I recommend booking in advance. The excursion lasts ~40 minutes.

Museum is along the lines of other such historic residences around Miscow area. Important difference is that children of Tyutchev decided to hand the mansion to the Soviets after the revolution, this way they avoided being plundered by the proletariat. After walking around the estate, we walked around the surrounding area.

The whole family had a great time: we went for a walk, attended 2 excursions, and tried pineapple soup. But we were a little shocked by the toilet rooms; it seemed like we were back in time. They naively believed that this problem had long been solved in museums near Moscow. The entrance to the main entrance was not found. We entered from the side of the house church. There is security there, employees will tell you how to get to the ticket office for tickets. A visit to the museum with a guided tour is a bit expensive: 400 rubles per adult and 350 rubles per child. We didn't get in because we arrived a little late, after 15-00... Delicious snack in a cafe: pancakes with jam and sour cream, pies, cutlets, etc., drinks. I liked Muranovo tea better chilled)) Nature is certainly impressive! A century-old linden alley, a grove around the estate, a river and air!!! It’s easy to imagine how people lived here 100 years ago. And you can get to the museum itself with a guided tour for 450 rubles. The museum has an old-style buffet; you can also have a quiet snack on the street. Tserkov' Tsarevicha Dimitriya Na Krovi

Museum
Sights & Landmarks
One captivating destination to explore while on a Volga river cruise is the Tserkov' Tsarevicha Dimitriya Na Krovi museum. This serene location showcases exquisite artwork and provides a tranquil atmosphere for visitors. It represents an era of adversity, referring to troubled times in history. With its historical significance and magnificent artistry, this museum offers a unique glimpse into the past without emphasizing personal encounters or experiences.
The Church of Demetrius, built on the site of the Tsarevich's death, is adorned with vivid frescoes depicting the tragic events. In 1591, Tsarevich Dmitry, the last of the Rurikids, was killed here. The official version is an accident caused by his congenital epilepsy, but the people blamed Boris Godunov, which marked the beginning of the Time of Troubles. The Church of Demetrius (1692), one of the most picturesque churches in Russia, was built on the site of his death. In general, it is a mystical place, shrouded in mystery and attraction. Many researchers are trying to understand what happened at that time and why Godunov was accused of the Tsarevich's death. It was probably a conspiracy. The interior is abundantly decorated with frescoes, paintings, icons, and pictures. There is almost no empty space, and from the entrance to the ceiling, there are images everywhere. This creates a sense of emotional overload.

(Translated by Google) The Church of Tsarevich Dimitri on the Blood was erected on the very spot where on May 15, 1591, the life of Tsarevich Dimitri, the son of Ivan the Terrible, the last Uglich prince, was cut short. The existing temple was built by order of Peter I Alekseevich; it was preceded by a wooden chapel, a cage church of the early 17th century, and a log tent church from 1630. There was a tomb in the temple, under which the very place where Demetrius’ blood was shed was preserved. The stone church belongs to the type of pillarless five-domed churches on a basement, widespread in the second half of the 17th century. The semicircle of the altar apse is located at the site of the death of the prince. The vestibule of the church was painted in the 18th century with commandment scenes. The mural was made in 1788 by master P. Khlebnikov from Borisoglebskaya Sloboda near Rostov on scenes from biblical tales. The western wall of the high part of the temple is occupied by the composition “The Murder of Tsarevich Demetrius”. This is the ideological center of the interior and a rare example of historical painting in a church. The painting was done in 1772 by the artel of the Moscow contractor Sapozhnikov. The development of the plot is read from left to right and includes several events of the fateful day of May 15, 1591, succeeding each other in accordance with the hagiographic narrative. Above is the scene of dressing in the mansion and seeing off the prince for a walk; below, near the stairs, is the episode of the murder. Above and to the right are Tsarina Marina Nagaya crying over the prince, nurse Arina Tuchkova and the Uglich residents who ran to the Kremlin at the ringing of the bell. In the center is a bell tower, sexton Fyodor beating the bell and murderers trying to break open the doors and stop the ringing. On the right is a dynamic scene of the townspeople reprisal of the murderers, above are the bodies of those beaten in the ditch and the messengers galloping to Moscow. The composition is crowned with a panorama of the Moscow Kremlin and a large image of the prince in the face of a saint. The gilded carved iconostasis in the temple was installed in 1867.

Nestled in the Yaroslavl Region, about 100 km from its namesake city, Uglich is a charming destination that boasts the impressive Uglich Kremlin. This historical site features notable structures such as the Duke's chamber and the stunning Church of Dmitry on Blood, built in 1692. Visitors can also explore the Transfiguration of the Savior Cathedral and several monasteries like Alexeevsky and Voskresensky, which date back to 1680.
Beautiful location. Carefully selected and nicely arranged exposition.

According to legend, Uglich was founded in 937 by Yan Pleskovich, an envoy of Princess Olga, to collect tribute. The first recorded mention of the city is in the Ipatiev Chronicle in 1148, where it is referred to as "Ugliche Pole." The city was an important trading center due to its location on the Volga waterway. In the 13th to 15th centuries, Uglich became the center of a separate principality. Under Prince Andrey Bolshoy (1462-1491), the city experienced a period of prosperity, with the construction of stone churches, the minting of coins, and the development of crafts. In 1491, Andrey was arrested on the orders of Ivan III, and Uglich lost its independence. The Uglich Kremlin is a historical and architectural complex in the center of the city of Uglich, located on the high bank of the Volga River. It is one of the most significant places in the city, associated with key events in Russian history, particularly the death of Tsarevich Dmitry in 1591, which was one of the causes of the Time of Troubles. The Kremlin ensemble includes several important structures, including the Transfiguration Cathedral with its bell tower, the Church of St. Demetrius on the Blood, the Prince's Chambers, and the City Council Building. The Transfiguration Cathedral, built in the 18th century in the Baroque style, stands out for its frescoes and majestic iconostasis. The Church of Demetrius, built on the site of the Tsarevich's death, is adorned with vivid frescoes depicting the tragic events. The 15th-century Prince's Chambers are a rare example of ancient Russian civil architecture that has survived to this day. The Uglich Kremlin is surrounded by a picturesque park, offering a beautiful view of the Volga River. There is also a tea shop on the territory of the Kremlin, where you can buy not only tea, but also various jams, tinctures, including alcoholic ones, cedar coffee, gingerbread, and many other products that you can see in my photos.

A local local history enthusiast convinced the authorities not to demolish the bell tower, but to turn it into a lighthouse. The bell tower never became a lighthouse, but serves as an excellent landmark for navigators. Interestingly, the bell tower, built of brick and local stone that absorbs water, tilted several degrees.

Kazansky Female Monastery

Monumental cathedral, quiet place.
Ilya R — Google review
(Translated by Google) Somehow this monastery is not well-known, and I came across it quite by accident, somewhere I saw a photo of the Kazan Cathedral. I compared it with our planned route and it turned out that we would be passing through (and spending the night) very close by: well, why not stop by. Let's go. From the highway we turn onto Siversova Street, and it’s very close there. We drive a little past the monastery and behind it there is a parking lot with information about the monastery. After what our revolutionary atheists did there, only the Kazan Cathedral has been fully restored so far. Well, the Sophia Chapel is next to it (but it is completely new, as is the sculpture of St. John of Kronstadt not far from the entrance). All other buildings are still in a sad state and require a lot of time and money. Some work is going on in the interiors of the Andronikovsky Cathedral, but when we were in the monastery (August 21, Wednesday, from 8.30 to 10 o’clock) there was no movement there and the doors of the cathedral were tightly closed. But the Kazan Cathedral turned out to be open: a large pinkish building of lush, even some kind of riotous architecture with many small details and elements. But its interior turned out to be bright, clean and calm. Classic. Filled with light. Fascinating! Interesting contrast! Well, it's deserted here for now. Apparently that’s why it’s not just allowed here, but recommended to take photographs (a rare occurrence for monasteries) and post them on the internet so that people can learn at least something about this place. Very small area. Two huge cathedrals. This also doesn't happen often. But still, now you can safely enter the territory, calmly enter one of the cathedrals and, perhaps, support the restoration of this wonderful place with at least some money.

At the site of the apparition at the holy spring, a chapel was erected for her stay, and subsequently a temple with a bell tower, where the miraculous image was located until the destruction of the monastery. By the beginning of the 20th century, the monastery became one of the largest in Russia, numbering about 1000 nuns. It had many workshops, including painting, embroidery, sewing, shoe making and bookbinding. An orphanage was organized at the monastery, where up to 250 girls were educated, a parish school, and hospices and almshouses were maintained. After the revolution in 1919, the monastery was closed and subjected to merciless destruction. The temple with the bell tower, where the miraculous Kazan icon resided, the fence, most of the wooden buildings were destroyed, the heads of the cathedrals were demolished, and their interior decoration was lost. During Soviet times, a military unit was located on the territory of the monastery. The drainage system was ruined, as a result of which swampiness returned. Constant excess moisture causes building structures to collapse. The monastery was transferred to the Russian Orthodox Church in 1991, and its revival is currently ongoing. The monastery is open daily from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm.

We met us, despite the late hour, fed us and provided us with an excellent room in the monastery hotel. They didn’t ask for money, but we ourselves left a donation in the temple in the morning. Restoration work is underway at the monastery, so we recommend that all guests of Vyshny Volochok not stay away. Donate! The Vyshnevolotsky Kazan Convent is worthy of this. The idea of self-service in the church surprised me. And of course this is a great idea. We couldn't pass by. I would like wealthy people to donate money to restore this holy place. Every believer will want to pray to the icon of the Kazan Mother of God. The beauty of this place is amazing to the core. We found ourselves on an excursion, or rather "in the auditorium" - at the benefit performance of the actress (or rather the tour guide) Yakovleva Nadezhda Petrovna. How amazingly, passionately, amusingly, heartfeltly Nadezhda Petrovna told us about the history of the origin of bells and bell ringing. How many interesting things we learned from Nadezhda Petrovna, heard how and what different bells and bells say. Thank you very much for such a fascinating excursion, for inspiration, for the amazing talent of the storyteller and actor Nadezhda Petrovna. I would like to wish everyone to meet this tour guide. Pavlovskiy Park is a sprawling 18th-century landscape surrounding a palace-turned-museum, boasting English-style gardens, water features, and classical-style buildings like the Apollo Colonnade and the Temple of Friendship. Spanning over 600 hectares, it's renowned as one of Europe's finest landscape parks. During summer, the park blooms with diverse flowers and offers families a perfect place for leisurely walks.
Magnificent place with intricate ceilings, beautiful in laid floors, spectacular chandeliers and amazing art work. Each room more grand than the other. What palace would be complete without its own theater!

A park that my family loves to walk during the summer. Our trip out this weekend was a bit early in the season and the weather was a bit chilly. During the summer that gardens are full or different kinds of flowers. There are even parts of the park where a person can go and lay out in the grass, a true luxury in Russia. Be sure and bring some nuts as there are many hungry squirrels who will gladly come get them out of your hand. This is a lot of fun for kids.

Nature & Parks
Catherine Park is a sprawling urban park that was once the estate of a nobleman. It features lush greenery, ponds, and walking paths. The park reflects the preferences of multiple generations of Romanovs, blending elaborate formal gardens with a picturesque landscaped park adorned with charming follies. Visitors can explore various attractions within the park for an admission fee, including the Grotto, Maids of Honour Garden, and Hanging Garden.
In keeping with all the opulence the Catherine Park is amazing again I am glad I did not have to fit the bill over the years. But a number of splendid features and it takes a long time to walk around. It took us a few hours to cover all the sites and take in the atmosphere.

Catherine Palace, it is a park in Tsarskaya Village, Russia, located 25 km southeast of St. Petersburg. Catherine Park gets its name from Catherine Palace, and the park is divided into two parts: the Garden and the English Garden. When you come to St. Petersburg, you should take a stroll and enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the area
C J — Google review
The park itself is nice, but the palace is super underwhelming inaccessible. You have to buy ticket for each small section of the palace, and it’s quite pricey as well. In addition, there is absolute no English translation, no English audio or tour guide, and the staff does not speak any English at all as well.
Minh N — Google review
There are a lot of beautiful places around the world where you will feel happy and relaxed yourself. And Catherine Park is definitely one of those places. I had so warm walk with my soulmate in the amazing place with incredible views just everywhere you turn your head. The perennial trees, ponds, beautiful buildings with a long history. So precious moments of life.🤍

My family's favorite park grounds. We walk the grounds at least once a year. There are lots of fun paths for kids to explore. If you bring nuts you can also sometimes feed squirrels or chickadees. Don't forget to walk behind the palace to the left and explore some lovely gardens with statues there.

Amazing gardens. There are several pavilion to visit and they all have wildly different styles, which makes it fun. Some are available to visit with a ticket (like the amazing Cold Baths, where the Agathe Rooms are located) and some can be visited for free (like the Chinese style pavilion and the Italian Style pavilion with authentic roman mosaics from the 2nd century) Just strolling around is nice, and they are more chilled than Petergof, with lots of locals enjoying the scene.

Museum "Tsarskoye Selo" is a captivating historic site that encompasses multiple imperial palaces and an extensive landscaped park adorned with beautiful gardens. I come back after 8 years. The exterior and the park are really amazing, a must see. About the interior tour, re her living zone, which I did for the first time, well, I am not sure is something to be seen... First of all you will discover that almost everything was bombed or robbed during second world war, so you are looking to a replica, which is taking away all the magic from it since......since let us be honest, interiors are unreal ugly. Too much of everthing without real balance and well thought details. And when you see it as a replica, you start to think 💬 well why to remake such a kitsch interior and not even to the end (not all the rooms have been restored until the end ). Also, the guide we had was so boring, lots of details repeating over and over... In general, the visit to the interior I won't recommend it, you won't loose anything. The park yes, that is a piece of art to be seen.
Ugo R — Google review
Beautiful. Grand. Bold. The palace is stunning and both the Catherine and Alexander parks are beautiful. I really want to visit the Alexander Palace when it opens after renovations. Which may take years sadly. The Amber Room is amazing. The post war photos of the destruction are sobering

Exhilarating experience to see so much grandeur and beauty! The interiors of Catherine's Palace are truly awe-inspiring, especially the Amber Room. Entry into the Palace always involves a longish queue, but it's worth it. If you have the stamina, don't miss out the stunning Palace gardens either. As splendid as the Palace interiors.
Sumer S — Google review
A great place just a train or a bus ride from St. Petersburg. The park is beautiful and the palace tour is nice. Be prepared to wait in line for about 30 minutes to an hour since there are a lot of visitors and due to the capacity, only certain number are allowed every 15 minutes.

Beautifully restored back to almost original greatness. Displays the crazy wealth of the Romanovs. Also a nice example of the Russian taste for gold and ornaments. Best to visit off season to avoid the largest hordes of tourists.

The Alexander Park, established in the 1770s and expanded by Emperor Alexander in the early 19th century, offers a serene natural setting for various recreational activities. Very clean and immense. I was there at the end of October. The trees are no longer leafy, there are few and for an autumn photo, you don't have the desired effect. I think it's my fault, but it'll certainly be better in winter. On the other hand, it's really beautiful.

Smol'nyy Cathedral

Russian Orthodox church
Sights & Landmarks
Architectural Buildings
Smolny Cathedral, an 18th-century Baroque Russian Orthodox church, is a stunning sight to behold with its sky blue facade and domes. Designed by Italian architect Bartolomeo Rastrelli in 1748 as a nunnery complex, it features audio tours and a belfry observation platform offering panoramic views of the city. The cathedral's beauty is especially emphasized during sunrise or sunset when the sun's golden rays gently bathe its exterior.
This blue and white Baroque-style cathedral is a real masterpiece of Russian architecture, built from 1748 to 1757. It's one of the best places I visited during my trip to Russia. A must-visit if you are in St. Petersburg. The view from the top of the cathedral is amazing, it took my breath away.
Google review
It is being renovated as when I visited, it seems like just painted white and bright blue. It is very beautiful and you can walk around. You can get inside the cathedral but cannot get inside the buildings around as they are currently the university.
Gunruthai C — Google review
The interior of the church is not so special but the design and ornaments of the building is ravishing. You can use the stairs inside the church to climb top of the building. It takes some effort but the view is worth it.
Ahmet K — Google review
Truly a "wow" from afar and inside. Probably one of the most beautiful cathedrals I have seen with the calm blue exterior and the "pure" white ( and some gold) interior. The Cathedral was founded in 1748 by the empress Elizabeth Petrovna and was consecrated on July 20, 1835. There are scheduled visits to the belfry. Around the main cathedral are several other buildings that also served as a girls school. Definitely worth a visit.
Vincent O — Google review
It's not quite like the other cathedrals in Russia. It has more elegant decorating. Though one part is still under reconstruction, you can walk inside and see white walls with golden images of the saints. Also you can take around 280 steps up to the bell tower, to see the city.
Iolanta C — Google review

It's a 4 star review as it is not easy to find the toilet (WC) and the the food court floor was way too hot. A larger WC sign would be helpful and a fresher air would enhance the eating experience. There was a short line at the toilet and, at least the one I used, was not clean: pee around the toilet seat and paper on the floor. It is not the mall's fault, so this is a message to all shoppers: Don't pee on the seat or on the floor and put the paper in the trash can. The facade is truly beautiful, adorned with statues. The Moscow train station is next to the mall.

A big shopping mall in St Petersburg, Russia. All brand shops are available in this shopping mall. Very good food court is a must visit area. There were live performances going in few areas at the mall, these were quite entertaining. It was a good shopping experience.

Modern, Stylish, and Family-Friendly – A Great Shopping Experience! Galleria Mall is one of the best shopping destinations in St. Petersburg. It’s a huge, modern mall with over 300 stores including international brands like Zara, H&M, and Michael Kors. The layout is spacious and easy to navigate, and there’s something for everyone—from fashion and electronics to beauty and gifts. What makes it even better is the variety of restaurants and cafes, including halal-friendly options, and a cinema with IMAX and 3D screens. It’s also very family-friendly, with a butterfly park for kids and clean, well-maintained facilities. Located near Ploshchad Vosstaniya metro station, it’s super convenient to reach. It can get crowded, especially on weekends, but the atmosphere is lively and safe. Highly recommended for shopping, dining, or just relaxing indoors—especially if you're traveling with family or need a break from sightseeing.

It’s a huge shopping mall at st Petersburg Russia. Most of the outlets here are ladies collection from cosmetics, fragrance, foot wear, fancy bags, clothing. It’s more of a high end mall and on the expensive side. Very few outlets for men. There are branded as well as local outlets here. Located on a busy street of st Petersburg. See lot of crowd in the shopping mall. Can see few outlets inside the mall premises with dolls and souvenirs.

The mall, situated at the heart of the city at the junction of Nevsky and Ligovsky Avenues, features an Empire style building that is a landmark in itself. Its central location near three metro stations and the Moskovsky railway station ensures easy accessibility. With over 300 stores of renowned global brands spread across five floors, as well as a variety of culinary delights at the spacious Eat Market, showcasing over 40 cuisines from around the world. Take in panoramic views of the city at the restaurants with terraces or opt for the various cafes available on each floor. On the 4th floor, the "Cinema Formula kino" takes entertainment to new heights with 10 movie halls, including IMAX and a VIP hall. The cinema presents films in their original language with Russian subtitles, follows the TheatreHD format, and even hosts sports broadcasts. Galeria stands as a multifaceted hub, seamlessly combining cuisine and entertainment, making it an excellent choice for a day out in St. Petersburg.

Cool mall, located right in the heart of the city. Has an amazing observation deck too, which is inside a restaurant.

This shopping mall is just beside beside a railway station. It’s very high class and clean surrounding. The shop is here is having discount and the food court is at 4th floor all the way to the behind. The shop some are not in Moscow. There are also a playground for kids at the highest floor and the playground is quite big and contains a lot of machine for entertainment. The overall experience I will give 5 stars. Hehe. XD

Contemporary galleries & shops in an ex-bread factory, plus cafes & a roof terrace with city views.
Very colorful and interesting place. A big variety of different small stores and street food booths that you will not find anywhere else in town. A lot of young people visiting and many shops are inspired by Japanese or Korean art/culture. They offer access to the roof terrace for a small fee, great place to hang out in summer. Also, if you need a local gift for the ones back at home, you should take a look at some of the shops here.

A very interesting place to visit. Great place to visit if you're into arts or anime. Houses wide variety of clothing stores. Great observation deck too! Cool place.

Quirky alternative and artistic mall nested in an old palace and with an accessible roof from which a different perspective of the city can be enjoyed. Born as a semi-clandestine culture center, it morphed over the years in an agglomerate of shops and bars with an artistic trendy flavor. The roof with a drink was - in our opinion - it's best feature

Visited right after it opened. We wear the first one to visit the place. We had the place on our own. The ticket costs 300RUB per person. Recommended to visit in the afternoon or the evening. It is just near the metro approximately 5 minutes walk.

Great place for artistic people! A lot of stores with a huge variety of goods. Many places to eat and relax. Also some exhibitions go there from time to time. They have a roof where one can relax and see Saint Petersburg. If you’re an artist, like movies or anime or just have some unusual views on fashion, life, ect. this place is so for you!

Interesting place to go and explore. 👏 More of a hipster area with street art. You can make photos of yourself in an old-school photo booth. 😉 There are nice variety of food places and very unique shops on the narrow street. Some restaurants also have an outside area you can relax. Love the architecture of the shops - square shape and placed so that the tip would be made from glass and you can see inside. There is also a Chinese shop there for Chinese medicine, herbs and other things. All shops there sell designed things and little out of the box versions of things. Very enjoyable to see where St Petersburg culture is and fashion is heading.

Interesting to visit, but the view from the roof is not the best.. how entrance to the roof is 150 roubles - very cheap, so you can just spend some time enjoying fresh air on the roof and lay on the huge funny cushions
