Ski resort
Outdoor Activities
Jasna Low Tatras is a year-round mountain resort known for having the largest ski area in Central Europe, making it a popular destination for winter sports enthusiasts. The resort offers a variety of activities such as hiking and climbing, in addition to skiing. With well-prepared slopes catering to all skill levels, from beginners to advanced skiers, visitors can enjoy an extensive range of options.
Really good skiing resort. Nearly 40 slopes for all levels of skiing. A lot of good free ride powder zones. Has a fun park where u can practice jumps and tricks. Although not huge it's enough. Food on slope mostly good but can be average, especially at the bar that comes first when skiing down from very top. Mostly reasonable prices. Would recommend a trip to Jasna, chopok to any winter sports lover 10/10

The ski resort in Jasna is a really great place for skiing! The slopes are varied, so both beginners and experienced skiers will enjoy it. The snow quality is great, and the slopes are well-maintained, which is awesome. Besides skiing, you’ll also find nice restaurants and après-ski activities where you can relax and grab a bite. It’s perfect for families, but if you’re an experienced skier, you’ll also find some challenging runs. Overall, if you’re looking for a solid ski experience, the ski resort in Jasna is definitely the right place to go.
Johny W — Google review
Overall an amazing skii resort. Plenty of slopes for all levels. Did get very busy after New Years though with wait times of 30 minutes to just get on the beginner B3 chair lifts though.
Josh — Google review
Super bad! Jasna today is not what it was been couple of years ago. Super crowdy. You should wait in que for 1.5 hours. There is no available pay car parking. Infrastructure is not ready to take upon that many people. It is dangerous. Very many crushes. And over all prices are extremely high. Much more expensive than Austria, Italy or even Scandinavia! Don’t go there.
Tripple T — Google review
Great place and world-class ski resort, numerous blue, red and black ski slopes for everybody, many lifts and cable cars, numerous restaurants and bistros, après-ski bars, wellness centers and good transport which are free with ski pass. If you go with a car make sure you get there before 8am otherwise you won’t find parking space. Definitely suitable for a year-round visit, you will find many other attractions here and the whole region has a lot to offer, caves, bike rentals, hikes and many more. Highly recommended!!!
Adi C — Google review
Really poor experience. They charge you 15 EUR for parking (you have to pay for a full day), even now during off season. You pay 31 EUR per adult to reach the top, just to find that the restaurant is closed. No mentions at the bottom, no mention on social channels.. we had 3 kids with us who we took the top to eat, as we knew it was cloudy so we couldn’t see much, we just wanted to take them to eat. The tiny bistro that was open instead, had no seating, no foods from their kids menu, and not surprising not a friendly service. To top it all off, you can only go down during designated hours, so we had to wait 25 minutes to go back down. 100 EUR spent between cable tickets, parking and French fries. Bad management is all I can say.
Soren H — Google review
A world-class ski resort, numerous ski slopes, many lifts and cable cars, numerous restaurants and bistros, there are no shortage of luxury hotels, après-ski bars, wellness centers and good transport. Cirrus S — Google review
One of the biggest ski resort in Slovakia with amazing tracks. I would really recommend to spend here at least 3-4 days to try all the tracks. The 4 star is because they stopped some of the elevators at 15:30 (they wrote 16) and on Monday despite the many skiers they stopped a few elevators all day. The quality of the tracks are the best before 2 PM. We will come back.

Chopok

Mountain peak
Outdoor Activities
Ski & Snowboard Areas
Chopok is a popular 6,640-foot mountain in central Slovakia's Low Tatras mountain range. It features ski slopes, hiking trails, and offers panoramic views from the top. The idea of building a chairlift to Chopok peak was conceived in 1936 by Czech expert caver Alojz Lutonsky. The first chairlifts were established in Jasna during the late forties and fifties.
Impressive views, the lifts can be crowded at times
Gergő C — Google review
Well worth the price of the lift. The views are amazing and the hikes give you an extra perspective on the area. Get here early as parking gets full quickly. There are shuttle busses from parking lots further out, so it's not a major problem.
Arthur K — Google review
Very hard hiking here from both sides (jasná or trangoška) up or down. When you are going from Dumbier or Derese, it is better. At the top great views and good spot for sunsets, but it is quite overcrowded, because it is possible go here with cable cabin.
Svetlana M — Google review
Chopok probably is the most visited mountain in Slovakia. It provides for one of the best round-views – you can see half of the country from the top. It also is the best skiing resort in Slovakia. Great choice of downhill skiing slopes, and cross-country skiing track Climb from the Jasná valley takes about 2 hours and is easy. Not to be missed!
Vladimir B — Google review
Beautiful views, although quite windy and cloudy. Amazing place to ski. Queues to gondolas are pretty short - you have to wait no more than 10 minutes. On the peak there is also a small hotel, a restaurant, toilets and a souvenir shop but it's really expensive.
Oskar K — Google review
Amazing to be here! More than 2000 meters above the sea-level! Very fresh air, beautiful view for the surrounding high mountains! Once you have to be here, just hoping a nice, sunny weather without strong wind. I live to be here and look around. It has been taken my breath away...
Ferenc L — Google review
Yet again, in winter season it’s superb place to visit. Blue tracks however are pretty narrow(although they are slow), and we prefer red but much wider
Alexey Z — Google review
Jasna skiing… everything is perfect such as slope condition, not queueing and stunning view. If you are not fully ready for ski (beginner), just hit the road for trying. Jasna is ready for you 😁

Waterpark Park Bešeňová

Thermal baths
Spas & Wellness
Relaxed family resort & water park offering simple rooms & apartments, plus dining, a bar & a spa.
Bešeňová is more than just a water park. The geothermal springs located within the complex rise from a depth of 1987 meters and reach a temperature of about 40°C. It’s a true natural treasure that positively impacts the musculoskeletal and respiratory systems. There are also a lot of attractions for kids here (for different ages). Tickets are often cheaper via the Gopass app.
Tetiana — Google review
Water park is nice, a bit dated but nice. Kids loved it. The issue with the place is that it's much too expensive, and the facility doesn't justify the price. We have been to better waterparks with better facility in more affordable prices. Price is 32 euro for kids 6-11 36 euro for 11-18 and 42 euro for adults. Other than that, it's a good place to spend a day with the kids. If the price was better I would rank it higher, due to the price I give it 3 stars. Although we might go again in the future.
Roy B — Google review
I used to enjoy and relax here from time to time but not anymore. Its too expensive and its no longer worth it. 42 Euros for a ticket? Nothing has changed in years. Plus the bathrooms aren't exactly the cleanest.
Tarin V — Google review
Fun place but needs some love. It looks like it’s straight from 2007 and it looks dated. I’m fine with higher prices but the prices in the aqua park restaurant is a daylight robbery. Probably our last visit before they fully refurbish the damn place. Thanks for having us!
Joey M — Google review
Sure! Here's your translated text in English: --- Excellent hotel, in a rural location with stunning views, a natural river, and hiking trails. Plenty of activities for children – facilities, various slides, different pools, and many restaurants at reasonable prices. The rooms are excellent – fully equipped with a kitchen, utensils, microwave, induction stove. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. There is a supermarket nearby. You can cook meals in the room. We arrived by direct train and then took a taxi for about 15 minutes. Highly recommended!
Tami R — Google review
I am sat, torn on weather to go from 5 to 4 or 3 stars and find i can't go higher than 3. The thing that let it down for me was the food. The food was tasty, however, whilst in the queue I noticed one of the main chefs carry one of the near empty food tins to the kitchen, grabbing a handful of left over food on the way and stuffing it in his mouth, then coming straight back out and using the same hand and gloves to touch other pre prepared food. To me this is totally unhygienic and not what you would expect for the price and experience. There is absolutely no way he changed those gloves, as i watched him go in to the kitchen and straight back out. Totally disgusting. Then my daughter was eating her children's chicken and mentioned one felt "chewy", only to find it wasn't cooked through and was cold in the middle. My wife complained, and they gave us more, however we really didn't want more and just wanted to highlight the food hygiene concerns. I would happily return again, but would be tempted to argue about bringing my own food, as i wouldn't trust getting it here. Such a shame, as the water park is otherwise fantastic and well worthy of 5 stars. Note that i understand they appear to outsource the kitchen to Unilever, and will write directly to them in my return home with my concerns too.
Richard H — Google review
Our visit to the water park was an amazing experience for the whole family. The place is clean, well-organized, and very well maintained, with a great variety of slides and attractions suitable for both kids and adults. The pools are spacious and pleasant, and the overall atmosphere is relaxed and fun. The staff is friendly and always ready to help. In addition, the on-site restaurants offer a wide variety of tasty food, which makes the day even more enjoyable.t’s definitely a perfect spot to spend the entire day – a wonderful mix of fun, relaxation, and enjoyment.
Lisa M — Google review
The water park is good and the lines are Ok , better for kids under 8 but everyone can find something to have fun. • Giovanni Restaurant inside the water park : We arrived at 3:00 PM. No wait for a table, but we were told only pasta was available—no pizzas, no salads. We ordered pasta for the family; 10 minutes later, the waitress returned to say pasta had also run out and only drinks were available. That’s unacceptable stock management for mid-afternoon. • wellness: Large facilities, but no age restriction meant many teenagers constantly roaming around, which made it far less relaxing. • Water Park: Fun for families, particularly best for kids under 8. Older kids/teens may find it limited.

Museum of the Slovak National Uprising

History Museums
Nestled in the heart of Banska Bystrica, the Museum of the Slovak National Uprising stands as a testament to Slovakia's courageous fight for freedom during World War II. This striking Brutalist structure, resembling a concrete bowl, houses an impressive collection of artifacts that narrate the story of the 1944 uprising against Nazi forces. Visitors can explore various exhibits featuring everything from military uniforms to tanks, all while gaining insights into this pivotal moment in Slovak history.
Very nicely done museum on the Slovak National Uprising, with various exhibits on Nazism and how the Slovake decided to rise up against the collaborators and occupiers. Musuem is pretty inexpensive to enter and has a little bookshop. Couple floors with guns, stories and uniforms. Very well done museum. Definitely worth visiting. No dogs allowed. Right in city center.

I came to see this beautifully designed building by Dušan Kuzma and was really excited to see inside of it after admiring it from the outside. For 5 euro entrance you can't see any of it? It has a two room exhibition on the bottom floor of the smaller half, I didn't even spend 5 minutes and asked that my ticket be given to someone else if possible as I'd already paid. Lady on front desk was very nice, but would have been nice to know before paying there's no ability to see the building, not even see the second floor or the other half of the building accessable. Really disappointing.
Jeff M — Google review
Really glad we found this museum. The outdoor war machines are great to stroll around. The museum itself is quite small but well organised with a great collection of guns and clothes to peruse. Most but not all information is in English. We did not use the audio guide which we thought was quite expensive. Also really dislike when museums charge a photography fee (photos we take that can promote the museum!)We came on a Sunday and fortunately it was a half price day for some reason. My recommendation for the museum would be to share more specific stories of the uprising that would bring it to life more.
T R — Google review
Stunning building, meh exposition. Just a teeny tiny classic soviet war museum, all around the same red flags, big brother help, machine guns, evil enemy so on. Worth seeing from the outside only
M B — Google review
We quite enjoyed this museum, was quite small but informative. Unfortunately you do have to pay to take pics and video. There are the planes and tanks that you can explore also a lot weapons used in the uprising too. A few hours would be plenty of time to explore the museum.

Small but amazing story about war!!

I love this place. I was here many times. This place is big part of Slovak history. There is interesting collection of armored vehicles out side and inside is realy nice museum about Slovak national uprising 1944.
Maros C — Google review
The Museum SNP is really great overall! The Museum SNP is divided into two parts, the open air fixed displays are a bit older and show their age however the payed interior main museum is new, clean and interactive. The Slovak peoples history fighting fascism throughout WWII is very important and should never be forgotten.

Museum of the Slovak Village

Ethnographic museum
Museums
The Museum of the Slovak Village is a captivating open-air museum that beautifully reconstructs a traditional rural Slovak village, showcasing an array of charming wooden buildings. Visitors can enjoy guided tours led by knowledgeable locals who share fascinating stories and insights about life in Slovakia before World War II. This immersive experience allows you to stroll through the picturesque grounds, where you can peek inside some of the historic homes and truly appreciate the architecture and lifestyle of yesteryear.
This Museum is the largest ethnological open-air exhibition in Slovakia. You would see four different regions with traditional rustic folk architecture, housing from the latter half of the 19th and first half of the 20th centuries. If you want to see everything you need at least 3 hours. Parking is free.

Great place for a trip! The Museum of the Slovak Village offers an authentic glimpse into the lives of our ancestors. Beautifully preserved wooden houses, traditional crafts, and a lovely atmosphere. Perfect for a walk and learning about history. Highly recommend!
Johny W — Google review
Very interesting museum with picturesque houses and other type of buildings. Area is divided per Slovakian regions and offers full immersion in the history. Opening hours are changing per seasons so check them in advance via Internet. There are also discounts for senior and disabled people. And the ticket includes the guided tour as well.
Katka ( — Google review
I can imagine that this place must look great in summer. I recommend to go for a commented tour with some of the ladies working at the place. No need to book anything, just wait for the tour to start when you get to the museum. With explanation of how the things worked back then and with some background stories, the visit is much more interesting than just looking around. Most of the tour or walk will happen outside, but some of the houses are open and you can peak in. Since the place has various opening hours during different months, check this information in advance. The tickets can be purchases at the place. It's possible to pay with a card, but the payment terminal is not always catching signal, so there might be a problem with that, we were told.
Jana K — Google review
Nice place for a walk, relax and learn something about living in Slovakia before 2nd WW. If there would be opened shop with refreshments I would rate it with 5 stars.
Stefan N — Google review
Very delightful experience, we didn’t expected much but we have seen and learned a lot. Every second hour there is a guided tour around the museum, I really suggest to take it. Our guide today was young lady with interesting fashion choices, but nevertheless she is really knowledgeable and could answer any of ours questions. Kudos to her. By accident we were able to see a theater piece “Gazdina Roba” set in museum background. This was a cherry on the top. I was amazed with performance of all actors and how scenes were integrated in museum locations. Only letdown is that there is no place to eat, no restaurant, not even a kiosk or snack available.
Jozef K — Google review
Probably one of the largest folk museums in Slovakia - very interesting, you may spend hours wandering between old houses, cabins or barns imagining how the countryside looked like many, many years ago. Worth visiting!

Ancient Ruins
Castle Strečno is a restored medieval fortress located in northern Slovakia, near the Váh river and the Mala Fatra mountains. It stands on a 103-meter-high calcite cliff and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. Visitors can access the castle via two routes, one steep and the other less so. Upon arrival, guests can purchase tickets for around 3-5 euros at the reception.
Castle with very interesting history. Great views over the surrounding valley, river and mountains. Our guide was very knowledgeable and pedagogical, which enhanced the whole experience. Most of this castle is in ruins, after suffering multiple attacks from Hungarians, Ottomans and the Habsburgs. But parts of it has been reconstructed, such as the chapel. Would recommend to buy tickets in advance.
Victor B — Google review
Beautiful place and being there at opening (?) day with the medieval days and theatrics really added to the experience. The place, situated as it is has absolutely stunning views and the castle is pretty well maintained while keeping the old and original. I loved going around and even though all the entertainment was in Slovak, at least we got to see the place and enjoyed the historic peasant food, saw cannons shot and owls/falcons flying on command which got our kiddos ecstatic.
Lilian C — Google review
Wow after 20 years of driving past we stopped and visited. Fantastic castle really Fantastic helpful guided tour. The cost of entry is so reasonable. At the end of the tour there is a video explaining the castle over the years thsts is really interesting and informative. I personally feel this should be at the beginning pre the tour so you get to understand more of the history. Thank you so much.

We had a really nice time visiting these conserved castle ruins. The views from the site are excellent, offering some memorable photo opportunities. Our guide was quite good; their commentary certainly helped to imagine what the castle was like in its prime. The small music break was a pleasant addition too. It's a worthwhile stop if you're in the area!

Guided tours here. You must arrange in advance for a tour in another language. Great views.

The reconstructed ruins of Strečno caste can only be visited with a guide (tickets available at the small souvenir store by the entrance). Our guide was super enthusiastic and knowledgeable (we took a slovak language tour). We had a great time discovering the architecture and history of the castle. Definitely worth it! The paid parking lot is right next to the main road, and you can get to the castle on foot (stairs! 15-20 minutes).

Námestie svätej Trojice, the town square in Stiavnica, envelops visitors as they relax by the Immaculata statue. Here, one can observe a sleepy feline perched on a medieval home's windowsill or tourists admiring intricate frescoes on ancient churches and palaces. A leisurely stroll may reveal an elderly woman ambling along the cobblestone paths towards St. Catherine's Church.

The Old Castle in Banská Štiavnica

Castles
Great castle that you can explore thoroughly. Can walk around the ramparts and climb the turrets. Housing a former jail and blacksmiths and guided tours bring this former chapel, converted into a castle.
Nyumbani P — Google review
Interesting castle. The inner keep was originally a (large) church. Nice views over the town. Lots of steep stairs if you want to see everything.
David S — Google review
The old castle boasts really great views of the city, but it does not give you access to them. The tower with the Gothic staircase leads you up only to a closed tower with no viewing platform. The inside of the castle is largely empty, although you can walk the ramparts. Overall, it is overpriced for what you are getting. They should spend more money on the main clock tower itself and allow visitors to go up. Inside, the expositions should have larger explanations as the ones near the statues were too small to read.
Tomáš P — Google review
One of the most interesting castles I've visited here in Slovakia. Amongst the many things to see within the castle grounds, it houses an exhibition of the famous Zachar Karol clay pipe making workshop, there is a breath taking series of altar paintings/sculptures of the way of the cross, and a beautiful bell tower you can climb. I thoroughly enjoyed the tour. The castle is only open once every two hours for visitors, and tickets are available for purchase by cash only.
Amanda D — Google review
Small old castle with central church and high walls. Walk the walls and climb to the towers for great views of the city and countryside, and peruse a few demonstrations of the local history and people. Worth the small fee.
Brad P — Google review
Very cool visit! Part of the visit (inside of the former church) is with an interesting commentary from the castle guide. The lady is happy to reply to your questions and offers very thorough background info re the castle, its history, the town itself and also re the history of Kalvaria. You can climb up and walk around the walls and go up to the main tower. There are placed the original paintings on wood from Kalvaria. It worth visiting and seeing them. Wear comfortable shoes as some wooden stairs are very steep and small! Toilettes available

It didn’t feel that safe but I didn’t get hurt and it was very cool it was so old that’s why it was so scary. it’s worth it buying a ticket you should go there.

Slovak Mining Museum - Mining Museum in Nature

Museum
Natural History Museums
The Slovak Mining Museum, also known as the Mining Museum in Nature, offers guided tours of mining tunnels and showcases wooden dwellings from various parts of the country. It provides a comprehensive insight into the life of a miner and the evolution of mining techniques. Visitors can walk through cold and narrow tunnels to experience what it was like to work as a miner with limited technology. English-speaking guides are available upon request for an additional fee, who offer an informative tour with amusing anecdotes.
You can buy your ticket with cash or card. The mining museum was very interesting, the guide was really cool.
Boglárka V — Google review
Interesting tour of the mine. Parking is outside via an app or payment meter. €5 for 2 hours or €10 all day. Ticket prices for the museum are €14 per adult. It can be wet inside the mine, so wear footwear that is good on wet, wooden planks....can be slippery. Given an overcoat, helmet and torch before the tour
Nyumbani P — Google review
Free parking, tour takes 70mins, guide gave speech in local language and we had English notes. Nice and cool underground. Above ground limited artefacts to view but very enjoyable. Gift shop and snacks available.
Michael B — Google review
We were just outdoor, but still a worth time we spent there. Kids had fun, there is very good exposition of rocks and minerals. The video for kids is very interesting, however, in slovak only so it has no value for a foreign visitor. Visits to the mines are scheduled every hour.
Tibor S — Google review
A bit creepy to be under ground in a place that's dark and dripping and where walking is a bit awkward because of the old mine tracks under your feet. But really well managed, with helmets and raincoats to protect you from too much damage. Unfortunately the tour was only in Slovak but the written English explanation helped. And the extra guide who speaks enough good English to explain what we asked. Great experience!
Michiel V — Google review
Nice experience for adults and kids too. Reasonably staffed (helphull ladies at shop/coffee). Wide exterior/ground exposition and intresting mine/undergroud area. Could do with coat exchange (ones you get to protect your clothes)as some are worn down.
Mimi — Google review
Fun experience. But if you are a non Slovak speaker, you will need to pay an extra €20 for an English tour guide, which is I didn't do. But go inside the tunnel is still fun to do.
Lovelinus I — Google review
One of the stop of the tour train. Take this little red train hop on hop off to watch around the old town, joyful to be bumped up and down all the way. The highlight in the town is to visit the ancient underground mine. Different from the salt mines in Poland and Austria, due to the volcanic eruption, the metal mines here are rich in gold, silver and copper, and are narrow, dark and humid. There are running water on both sides of the trail, and sleeping upside-down bats can be seen in the cave, close at hand. There are 14 levels in total, the top two levels are open for visitors, 50 meters deep, 8-9 degrees Celsius, equipped with helmet searchlights, and the whole journey takes 90-100 minutes to walk.

The Museum of Prehistoric Cave Prepoštská is located within the castle and houses a diverse collection of historical and artistic artifacts. Visitors can explore original furniture, a 19th and 20th-century artistic collection, and the national treasure - the Late-Gothic altar of Bojnice. The museum also offers access to a dripstone cave beneath the castle, which connects to a 26-meter deep well.
Definitely recommend excursion during night! Great atmosphere in the darkness lit only by the torches, feeling much more like in the stone age. I've returned there also during day to catch up on few items possible only during light (like throwing spear to mammoth or barefoot walking) and in both ways great experience for both young and old.

In overal positive experience for a visit with kids. Staff on the entrance was friendly and answered all our questions. You can find several activities for kinds on the path, small playground, shops with souvenirs were closed. There are educative boards along the path but you can't enter the cave which was a big disappointment. You are done in 1-1,5 hour. In overal the price is higher for such an experience.

Národná zoologická záhrada Bojnice

Zoo
Outdoor Activities
Zoological park with a conservation program for endangered species, keeping jaguars, bears & lemurs.
Payment by card or cash. Adult 10 cost EUR, Child +4 cost 5 EUR, Family ticket 2+2 cost 26 EUR. Big and nice zoo. Lots of interesting animals (3 elephants, tiger, bear, wolves, monkeys etc.). No problem with toilets. Children very happy. Great time spent
Jarek M — Google review
2 adults and 3 kids, 34€. Very bad signage, we didn't know where to go from the car park, more signs would definitely help. Just follow the stalls. Stalls with souvenirs and toys were expensive. Zoo was nice, good selection of animals, kids enjoyed it. Very bad attitude from the staff at the bouncy castle. Service not great.
Lucy — Google review
We visited the National Zoo Bojnice in 2021. The collection of other nearby attractions (including the castle, restaurant) made it feel connected like a theme park. There were stalls outside the castle, some where you could pay a fee to hold birds of prey. We paid 10€ for adult entry and 5€ for child entry. The zoo was originally a private collection of animals on the castle estate but since becoming public in 1949 has become one of the most visited zoos in Slovakia. It has all the expected facilities; foods and refreshments, toilets, baby changing area, gift shop, playground and picnic areas. The visitor route mostly looks outward on the enclosures, which means happily less walking and the animals have larger enclosures.
Mark G — Google review
Awesome zoo, they have got plenty of animals that I have never ever seen before ranging from birds that almost look like dinasaurs to birds from the angry birds game, fish from Finding Nemo, various turtle-fish hybrids. You can also see apes trying to use tools here and I was finally able to see a wild wolf here. Very much worth a visit!
Boris R — Google review
Nice Zoo to visit with family, child or with friends. In comparison with Bratislava Zoo smaller. Situated in a beautiful place.
Erika P — Google review
Nice walk with family, anyway during our visits many animals were not avialable. Anyway we liked it
Andrej M — Google review
Mid-sized zoo, which we have enjoyed. Unfortunately we were not able to see some of the animals like elephant, gorilla (maybe there is no gorilla in this zoo) and chimpanzee. I recommend to visit the zoo in early hours during hot summer, otherwise you won't be able to see some of the animals as they might be hidden inside. There is a bistro with some fast food. Also you can find there a coffe and ice cream stands.
Jmeno P — Google review
The Zoo is worth visiting. It is quite big and landscape around it is very beautiful. Also you have a great view on the famous Bojnice castle. We especially liked the new housing of the elephant's.

Bojnice Castle, located in Slovakia, is a stunning neo-gothic structure that has been expanded and modernized over the years. It sits atop a travertine hill above the town of Bojnice and offers picturesque views of the surrounding area. The castle is a popular tourist attraction in Central Europe, drawing visitors from around the world. The site features a museum, landscaped gardens, and even a cave for exploration.
Something not to miss if you are in the area and definitely worth travelling to see. Did the English language tour and worth repeating it was so good and informative. You get to see a lot in a short tour. Just fantastic and great value. Make sure to explore the exterior parks as a free bonus.
TJ F — Google review
Beautiful castle, but the visiting experience was disappointing. There’s only one English tour per day, right in the middle of the day, which is very limiting. We had to join the Slovak tour and got printed information in English. The tour was rushed, expensive, and we barely had time to enjoy the rooms. It really feels like something that could be done independently with an audio guide. For the price, I expected a slower, more detailed experience. I still think it’s worth coming to the area. The gardens around the castle are beautiful, and the atmosphere with the castle in the background is really lovely.
Sara P — Google review
Unfortunately the beauty of the castle is ruined by the poor organization of the guided tours. The guide was extremely rude(Lenka) as she threatened that she is locking the door if we do not exit when we were literally just for 2 mins in the Grand Hall. As I mentioned the castle was very beautiful and well maintained but just that. You can see attached in the last picture how crowded it gets and we were told that it was not even a full group
Anisia P — Google review
It is worth visiting. I pre-booked an English guided tour to the interiors (only one English tour per day at 1315). It took one hour 15 minutes & we visited many rooms, from the top floor to the basement cave, in 2 towers. The Interior is very antigue & authentic, wood is mainly used, nothing extra lavish & glittering. The Exterior of the castle is awesome. Plenty of gardens to stroll around, Bojnice town itself is also pleasant. But the train trip from Bratislava took over 3 hours, with transfer in Trnava & Luzianky, including a funny bus trip, probably due to rail maintenance work, from Hlohovec to Luzianky, & finally walk 50 mins from Prievidza to the castle. Train trip costs €8 one way. Very nice public transport exercise & day trip.
Connie W — Google review
One of the best castles in Europe I have ever visited. Around 2.5 hour drive from Bratislava so a day trip is enough. The castle is so beautiful both from the outside and inside. The outside looks like a Disney castle. And the interiors and decoration inside the building are extremely wonderful. There’s also a guided tour available which costs 16 euros for an adult but only one English tour available per day at 13:15. The tour is about 1.5 hours long and even though I didn’t understand anything from the Slovakian guide, I still think it’s worth it to go inside the castle. Highly recommend.
P — Google review
Our family was delighted with the views of the Bojnice Castle and its surroundings as well as we enjoyed the guided castle and cave tour. Our English guide told not only historical facts about the castle but also said some interesting facts as well as included some legends related to the castle. The expositions inside are interesting and worth visiting. You should check the times of English guided tours - there were just 2 of them on our visit day, the other tours were in Slovak. At the foot of the castle there is a park, souvenir shops, some eating places and the Bojnice Zoo.
Lina S — Google review
Beautiful castle from the outside. The inside tour is ok, but wasn't completely worth its €16 per person in our eyes. You cannot visit on your own, but have to go with a guided tour, while the guide only speaks Slovak.we did get a small brochure in English, but it's not always clear what part they are talking about. The group was also very big, so that sometimes not everyone could enter the room the guide was speaking in. All in all not bad, but too pricey for what it was.
Tamandua B — Google review
A beautiful old castle which was part of the Hungarian Kingdom in the past until early XX c. Unfortunately, there is no word written about the historical link to Hungary. Though, worth to see. There is a lunch break at the entrance 12 to 12:30pm :O The woman at the ticket office was very impolite when she was checking who can have senior tickets in our tourist group.

Arborétum Mlyňany SAV

Arboretum
Nature & Parks
Geographically themed tree collection set around a rural manor, plus a rose garden & woodland walks.
What a wondrous place. We made our way to Mlynany from Levice on some old field roads and arrived around 16:30. There was a lovely lady waiting to navigate us to a free parking spot close to the gate entrance where you can find one restaurant and one local pub that offer a range of beautiful food and drinks. Entrance fee was 5€ per adult, you get a little map you can follow :) Its a magical place, unfortunately we only had about an hour before the park staff started slowly closing but it was well worth it (18;00 closing time). I recommend spending at least 2,5 hours - bring some snacks and water - toilets are right next to the ticket office!

Large spacious outdoor botanical garden. We came early beginning autumn. Must be seen; enormous diversity of trees from around of world. Some 3-4 hours needed to book just for walking through the garden. Definitely we visit again; maybe lately in spring time. Note there is no refreshment service inside. Also be aware navigating inside the garden is not so clever; we were lost several times; so next time we prepare routes itinerary in advance.
Peter L — Google review
I would describe this place as an old garden. It is extensive and full of diferent types of flora and neverending walks. However, I have expected this place to be more maintained. Most of the garden have been full of bushes outgrowing into the walks and in the views of other special plants. Poor marking od the plants, which you are not able to read from the distance. Worst thing about this place are navigation boards. We have got lost multiple times, and Google maps, did not helped. Castle itself looked well taken care off, from the outside. Overall, we had 3 hours of nice walk through the gardens.
GashttoII — Google review
Very nice arboretum, lots of interesting trees. You could spend hours and hours walking around. And the silence and peace... What I was a little sad about was the chaos, the plants could be further apart to make them more clear, the paths could be better marked. This place has a lot of potential just use it 🙂
Daniel Š — Google review
This is a hidden gem, unfortunately despite all its beauty it has there are some minuses as well. Missing some restaurant or caffeterrie, garden needs to get some upgrade of pavements and etc Despite all of this, this is a huge park split to several sections based on geography. Asian gardens, american gardens and etc. Beautiful views and nice nature here. Chateau needs reconstruction for sure. Still place worth to visit and enjoy.

The castle is not only rich in heritage but also features charming shops and engaging exhibitions that enhance your experience.
Today, I visited Beckov Castle and spent about 2 hours there. The castle is very beautiful and has a lot of history. It is located on a hill, so the view from the top is amazing. You can see the village and nature all around. The castle ruins are well-maintained, and there are signs in English to explain the history. I enjoyed walking around the old walls and towers. It feels like going back in time. There is also a small museum inside with some interesting items. The place is peaceful and not too crowded, which makes it perfect for a relaxing visit. St. Michael the Archangel Church is a medieval gem with detailed frescoes adorning its walls and ceilings, some of which are created by renowned painters. The church stands on a sharp point of Tribec, offering picturesque views visible from Nitra planes to Povazie. This Romanesque building from the 11th century is a national cultural monument and one of Slovakia's oldest churches.
Moving along the blue route from the pyramid (Vysielač Zobor) we decided not to return to Nitra, but to walk to the end point of the route. The road is beautiful and not difficult. Very diverse nature. And here we got to this very old church. It is a very calm, soulful place with stunning views. Then you can go not along the route, but just go down to the nearby village.

For 70 euros, you can swim in three pools, use three different saunas, and that’s it. It’s absolutely not worth the price. If you have the chance, go to Hungary instead of this characterless spa. Even the cheap 10 euros option in Hungary is better than this.
Alex O — Google review
it is nice for sure, but the biggest thermal bath in the world is in Germany and it only costs 1€ more. This one would be a mediocre one in Germany. Definitely not worth 70€ entrence. Only one traditional Sauna, not a big variety sadly.
Yusuf O — Google review
Clean pools and facilities, staff were friendly and helpful, but not worth €70 given the limited pools available. Likely given the cost, I had most of the pools to myself most of the time, which was a plus.

Spa Irma is absolutely amazing. It was my first visit and I absolutely felt royal. The interior is so beautiful. You can have a cup of coffee, beer or any food or drink you like on their menu. They have a sitting place outside as well as inside. The gardens outside are absolutely beautiful.

Good spa experience. We had the mirror pool, mud pool and wrap. Reasonably priced at 30€.

Čachtice Castle

Castle
Sights & Landmarks
Nestled in the picturesque Carpathian Mountains, Čachtice Castle stands as a captivating reminder of the 13th century. This hilltop ruin, adorned with Gothic and Renaissance elements, is steeped in mystery, largely due to its infamous last resident, Elizabeth Bathory. The most breathtaking views of the castle can be enjoyed from the nearby village of Visnove.
Beautiful and peaceful hike up to the castle ruins! The view from the top is breathtaking, and the surrounding nature makes it even more special. Great spot for a weekend trip
Ashish V — Google review
Very nice castle, good lector with humor. For families with children you can use local turist train. Nice view of the valley. I appreciate this nice places in Slovakia.
Veronika T — Google review
calm and well preserved castle ruin with affordable entrance fee (4€/5€, cash/card), nice views to the country side, nice spots for relaxing and enjoying the views, parking 30 minutes from the castle, souvenir shop/refreshment next to the entrance
Viktor M — Google review
Parking 3 euros which is ok, you also get a tour guide in english and a small magnet. From there, it is 15-20 min easy uphill walk. Entrance to castle is 5 euros per person on weekends, which is not really worth it. There are simmilar castles nerby where admission is free. Either way, not too bad, just there are better experiences in the area.
Emir A — Google review
This is the castle of the famous Countess Elizabeth Bathory, meaning that it has fascinating and macabre history. It is worth visiting for that fact alone. Other than that, most of the castle is in ruins, however some renovation has been carried out in recent years. Still, a lot more could be done to restore the castle in its former glory (I hope that they would do that one day). It is a short hike uphill from the parking and once you’re there, the castle offers splendid vistas all around.
Nikola C — Google review
Calm, beautiful, though castle not much left but intresting history.
Demz R — Google review
Amazing. I really loved it. And the surroundings are just breathtaking.
Pandora — Google review
Beautiful medieval castle ruins with some exhibition as well. The walk up is not so hard and can be easily managed by anyone who can walk for 20 or so minutes up the not-so-steep hill. Enjoyed the views as well, there is number of spots where you can take some really nice portraits. They take a good care of the place, renovating one step at a time, and can use any money you can spare to make this piece of history nicer and nicer. They serve refreshments here as well, which is a nice bonus. You need to bring cash though 💶 Recommend, definitely will visit again :)

Amazing experience. Great atmosphere in very nice and unusuall place. Interior is beautiful with many nice details. You can sit in own separate part or big open space. Staff was kind and smiling all the time with good recommandations. We tried coffee, lemonades and sweets there and we loved it all. Apart from coffee prices are little bit higher. To make it short: great location, interior, service, sweets and coffee make it very pleasent experience and "must visit" in the city. Worth every cent. It is simply great experience

Katedrála sv. Jána Krstiteľa, also known as the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, is a significant religious monument in Trnava. The cathedral boasts a rare all-wooden altar dating back to the 17th century and is adorned with stunning wood and marble work. Its interior is richly decorated with gold accents, earning it the reputation of being the most beautiful church in Trnava, often referred to as "Small Rome.
A truly stunning Cathedral right in the heart of Trnava. A nice peaceful spot to reflect.

good swimming and good choice of pools. food is also good, large selection. we will definitely stop by again. It's better to buy tickets online and you don't have to wait in long lines.

Very nice place. However, during our visit, too many amenities weren't available (swimming pool, kid's pool, outdoor tobogans, "diving pool". Understandable, as it wasn't full season, but shouldn't be charging full price, or, at least, should inform visitors about it.
Peter S — Google review
We visited this place on the weekend. In winter, two outdoor swimming pools are in operation - a children's pool and another pool. While it's a great place to visit in winter, it's also a really nice place in summer.
JaeHyeong J — Google review
We had a little problem to find a locker because there was a lot of people and I was a bit disappointed that you have to pay extra for the slides but otherwise the overall experience was nice. We will most likely visit again in the future.
Bee W — Google review
It's always amazing spending a day in this thermal park. Over the years they have added different pools with all sorts of entertainment. Prices are very similar to all other thermal parks around Slovakia.
Jana V — Google review
It's not the first time I visited this venue and unfortunately, I have to say that my experience was often quite disappointing. The staff was generally unpleasant and seemed annoyed by the need to serve guests. The facilities themselves were also lacking. Although several pools were open during the off-season, there were too many people and not enough attractions available. To make matters worse, the pools were not particularly clean and the attractions (such as bubbles and jets) only ran for short periods of time before shutting down for extended breaks. Additionally, the venue had a multitude of rules and restrictions that were often unclear or questionable. It was difficult to navigate the facility, especially for those with mobility issues, as there were thresholds everywhere and limited signage in languages other than Hungarian and Slovak. Overall, while the venue may be relatively inexpensive and conveniently located between Budapest and Vienna, I cannot recommend it due to its poor service and lackluster facilities.
Adrian W — Google review
We were really excited to go here but then found out that the slides are only open at the weekend, the indoor pools were closed for renovation, the indoor slides were out of bounds, the lazy river wasn’t running and the wave machine only runs every 2 hours, (great when you get a 3hr ticket) and the indoor children’s pool play area wasn’t functioning. We were told none of this when we paid at the till. Very disappointing and definitely don’t recommend the place. I understand that general maintenance / safety is important but we should have been warned when we paid or had the entry price reduced.
James B — Google review
Fun for all the family, if you want to relax and unwind you can, if you want to be active you can and somewhere in between, good choice of food and drink outlets that won't break the bank. Should be even better when the new pools are finished early 2019. 👍👍👍👍

Located on a dramatic setting along the Danube, the Danubiana Meulensteen Art Museum is a world-class gallery showcasing modern art exhibitions and sculpture gardens. The museum's outdoor sculpture garden offers an invigorating experience, while inside, floor-to-ceiling windows provide a stunning backdrop of the water for contemporary art displays. The museum features works by Slovak and Czech artists such as Viera Kraicova, Vincent Hloznik, and Rudolf Fila.
Beautiful museum on an island in the Danube. The outdoor sculptures are by far the best part. They even used the roof of the museum for more sculptures. The setting is lovely. My only note would be that it would be nice if the cafe had some food besides desserts. Although the desserts were yummy!
Juli P — Google review
Danubiana is truly a gem just outside Bratislava—a museum of international class, but on a more intimate and accessible scale. What really stood out was the strong focus on local and regional artists, which gave the visit a real sense of place and identity. The mix of permanent and changing exhibitions keeps things fresh and engaging. The location is stunning—situated on a narrow peninsula (almost like an island!) surrounded by the Danube, with views of the river in full force. Don’t miss the sculpture park outside or the rooftop terrace, both perfect for a peaceful stroll and great photo opportunities. The café is another highlight. It’s a lovely spot to relax, with outdoor seating that lets you enjoy the scenery while taking a break. This was our first visit, but definitely not the last. Highly recommended for art lovers, nature lovers—or anyone looking for a special experience just a short drive from the city.
Ulrik T — Google review
This place is so awesome. Feels otherworldly. A must see, but reserve a few hours at least. Surrounded by water, art and beautiful spaces everywhere. Go see for yourself.
Matus M — Google review
It was a truly amazing experience. The artwork is fascinating, and the place itself is stunning. It overlooks either a river or a lake—I’m not sure which—but the view is absolutely charming.
Amer A — Google review
A one of kind museum in the middle of the Danube river. It was a bit far from the city but it's worth a trip, you can spend 1-2 hours here but I would recommend to go there on sunny days as a huge part of the artworks are outside in the gardens or on the rooftop. I didn't like all the temporary exhibition but they were mainly good. Best part was the photography exhibition by Rancinan. The café inside the museum was lovely.
Emilio — Google review
It is a very nice museum! For lovers of modern art and finding artists from Slovakia and other surrounding countries, this is a must in Bratislava! It is easily accessible by bus from the centre of the city (departing from Nové SND, 2 zones), and it is situated in a very beautiful place! Personally, I thought that it needed more female artists, but the pieces being displayed are very dynamic and stunning! The staff is very kind, there's also free water, portable folding chairs and a nice outside area to roam and catch some sunlight. The café is nice, and it is very well decorated! The WC is very clean and functional. The only downside is the museum shop, which doesn't contain much from the museum itself. It definitely needed more postcards with pieces being displayed and other merchandise from the exhibitions. Definitely worth a visit!!
João P — Google review

An unusual art museum, which is distinguished by its location, its originality, its concept... will be especially interesting to everyone who follows the trends of contemporary art. Every square has a monument. This one, the Holy Trinity Column, is impressive, It commemorates the end of the plague. At the base, there are skulls in the little cupola. In the plague, 4,000 people died at the time, which was about 15% of the city's population.

Oğuz A — Google review
The Holy Trinity Column is a religious column dedicated to the Christian Holy Trinity, a popular subject and theme for a monument in Czech Republic and Slovakia for celebrating the end of the Plague. Every city in this region seems to have one and Bratislava is no exception. The depiction of the Trinity is fairly standard, with a central column topped with the Holy Trinity. At the base of the column are sculptures of saints, the one unusual thing is that there are two two more sculptures of saints separate from the central column. There’s also a low wall enclosing the column The column can be found on the western edge of Bratislava Old Town, close to the end of Hviezdoslavovo Square. Take a look if in the area, but I wouldn’t go out of the way to see it.
