Rathwood is a versatile destination offering furniture, garden items, a kids' play center, and a full-service restaurant. It is located in an area with other popular attractions such as the Arboretum Christmas Village and The Santa Train Experience. Customers have praised the excellent service and timely delivery of products like the Pandora pergola. Visitors have enjoyed delightful experiences at Rathwood's restaurant for both breakfast and afternoon tea, praising the professional staff and delicious food.
Myself and my family made the visit to Rathwood from Drogheda for their Halloween event. It was fantastic. Train ride, Circus tent with amazing show for the kids, pumpkin patch maze and some amusements. The staff were friendly and helpful. I had accidentally been charged twice but Faye looked after me with refund etc. The cafe and shop area were also very nice. The only negative point for me was the soft-play area. It was extremely busy and unsupervised. Larger kids were in the area for small babies which meant that we couldn't let our child play and had to leave early, so my only advise would be to supervise/police the soft play area better.

Beware!!! Now on our second outdoor covers as they didn’t even last a year! But after ordering them back in June to replace we have had no update of when they will be delivered but happy to take our money. When calling you get put through to a call back and we are still waiting and the online portal for checking delivery no longer works. Here are some pictures of our one year old cover

I will never order from Rathwood again. This company has been an absolute nightmare to deal with. I placed an order for firewood back in February — it’s now the end of October, and I still haven’t received it. After months of silence, I contacted Rathwood in September to complain and was offered a €100 voucher as compensation. When I tried to use it, it didn’t work. Every attempt to contact their customer service since has been exhausting — over 30 minutes on hold each time, only to be told on one occasion that they couldn’t help me because it was nearly 5pm and they were finishing for the day. I was promised a call back that never came. After yet another 3o+ minute wait today, I finally spoke to Jean P., who was polite and helpful and managed to redeem my voucher. She also assured me that I’d be contacted about my delivery — though at this stage, after eight months of waiting, I won’t hold my breath. Eight months for a simple firewood order is completely unacceptable. Rathwood’s lack of communication and accountability is shocking, and their customer service is appalling. I’ll be taking my business elsewhere and strongly advise others to do the same until Rathwood gets its act together.

AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!! Like others I ordered and paid for fuel in June and arrival date was set for early Aug. Aug came and went no fuel. Dates on portal then pushed to Sept then October still no fuel. I tried ringing 30 mins on hold. Sent several emails got a one reply reassuring me that the fuel would come with no confirmed date. Two weeks ago I got through on the phone after a very long wait asked for a refund and was told they would process that. Was completely ghosted then when I followed up with emails to ask for update on my refund. They have no intention to refund me. Only way to get money back is to open a dispute with your bank. They are now operating as Rathwood Living and carrying on the same. Don't GET SCAMMED BY THEM..DONT GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY. AVOID AVOID AVOID. This goes for rathwood events also. Clearly going into liquidation.

I made an order for wood on the 12/6/25 which was due to be delivered on the 24/8/25. Please see photos below for the different rescheduled delivery dates for my order which I was not made aware of. I had contacted them and requested notification of any changes to delivery dates which they failed to do. to I have also messaged them on the portal and which they failed to do. I talked to so many people both customer service and management since August. l have ordered from this company before and had the exact same problem with delivery They gave me a €50 voucher as recompense. I decided to use it and buy on the 12/6/25. I didn't think on that date that I could be waiting practically 6 months for my order to be delivered 😡 On Friday I gave up on dealing with this company I then ordered wood from Finglas Fuels. This wood was delivered to me on Saturday afternoon. The reason that I haven't cancelled the order is that I want to actually want to see when an order made in June will actually My recommendation to anyone contemplating buying anything here is DON'T BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY. I hated giving them 1 star. It is wasted on them
Clare O — Google review
Avoid, avoid, avoid! I ordered logs using the advance order option, which is clearly advertised as separate from the wait and save option. The dispatch date was listed as October 20th. I heard absolutely nothing. I sent multiple emails and messages requesting an update on delivery, all ignored. Eventually, I managed to reach someone at a call centre, only to be told my order was delayed until mid December. I requested a refund and was assured it would be processed promptly. That was over a week ago yet still no refund. Where is my money? This is completely unacceptable and terrible customer service. Do not trust this company.
Will G — Google review
An absolute disgrace of a company. Ran by and owned by an incompetent bunch of half wits. I ordered two beds on September 13th. I waited, waited and waited some more. I called and I emailed. After numerous lies from rathwood and multiple requests from me for a refund the order eventually arrived on November 1st. The problem , only one bed arrived. I am now on hold and am number three in the queue. A position I’ve been in multiple times and each time when I get to one the phone hangs up. Edit to say I have managed to speak to someone her name is Diana. She informed me they base their customer service out of the Philippines. She further informed me her managers name is Chisom who is based somewhere in Ireland but she wasn’t quite sure where she was based ! She said she could not offer a refund for the item inspite of the fact it was not delivered
Nicola H — Google review
AVOID!! Garden furniture ordered in May for delivery end of June. This was pushed back to July, then August, then September…all with very little contact or notice from the company. Updates through notifications on portal only. We then cancelled the order, no sign of a refund. Although customer service are sympathetic (once you get through the long waiting times), they can’t assist with refunds and all done through separate team. Eventually requested a chargeback through bank and got refund processed through this.

Enniscorthy Castle, located in County Wexford, Ireland, is a 16th-century structure that now serves as a historical exhibit showcasing the castle's history and that of Wexford. The castle offers an educational journey through its three floors and provides visitors with panoramic views of the town from its rooftop. Additionally, it houses exhibits on various topics such as early phases of occupation and daily life in the castle.
Great staff, welcoming environment and a super way to spend an hour. There was a wedding party when we visited, so one floor was temporarily occupied, but we happily worked around them. Interesting location, entertaining unaccompanied tour and plenty to see. Costumes and safe weapons for kids and big kids alike.
Fluffsryan — Google review
A lovely castle in great condition in a nice setting with many attractions surrounding it. It has a fantastic entrance and is well looked after, Parking is near by and the town is worth a visit too, cheers
Michael G — Google review
They do not have an app for a self-guided tour and they do on occasion have guided tours - otherwise one is down to reading the posters on the walls to understand what the exhibition is about. You will discover the origin of the word "wallop" in the process and learn how the castle(s) that were built on this location changed hands since the 1100s (mostly by being destroyed first). There is an elevator so one does not HAVE to take the stairs to the higher floors.
Jo G — Google review
A visit to Enniscorthy castle is very informative and educational. The visit is a walk through the history. All information is set up in three floors and they let the visitors enjoy the view of the town from the roof top of the castle. There is an entry fee to this castle, but if you ask the reception, they will be able to provide you with 2 tickets, both for the castle and the rebellion center that’s few yards from this castle.

Just visited last last week. Hadn’t been there since I was a kid. Very nice & informative staff. I visited with my daughter & her friend. We live in the US so this was their first “inside” a castle experience. My daughter has seen many. We very much liked how interactive it is. It had the “please touch” type feel to it. We had a great sword fight.

Well worth a visit if you are near Enniscorthy.

Loved the castle! I went there on a Friday and it was quite empty so I didn’t have to wait to enter. For adults it is €6 and for children €3. The staff Derek and Emit are extremely friendly and helpful they new info about the site and around the site as well. Emit was nice and even took the people to the roof top. I really recommend going to this castle, it isn’t extremely big, but very nice !
Ali — Google review
Visited this place years ago was impressed with the layout and information at hand. My last visit however far out did itself in terms of information layout and general feel of the place. It was well worth the time the museum has vastly improved upon my original visit.

The National 1798 Rebellion Centre

The National 1798 Rebellion Centre offers a hands-on, multi-media experience that traces the events of the 1798 Irish Rebellion. Located 5.5km west of Enniscorthy's town center, this open-air museum provides over 9000 years of Irish history through interactive exhibits and reenactments. Visitors can enjoy a short audiovisual presentation before delving into personal stories from the rebellion era.
If you are into history, this is definitely a to-go place! This center has perfectly set out all the information one needs to know. You can read about the key figures of the rebellion, find the display of few weapons from the period, and the best part of this place is how they have set up a scene from the time of this rebellion. There is an entry fee. They have provided ample car parking space and a picnic area. The entrance to the center has fish pond on both sides which is very therapeutic to watch.

Really shouldn't be open until displays are fixed. Quite a few monitors were dead and push buttons on displays didn't work. It was 28€ for 3 and it's not that long with not many actual artifacts on display. It's a shame as its an important time period in Irish history.
Mark M — Google review
An interesting museum. A little bit on the expensive side given the museum displays are a little bit more out of date but it is a good way of spending 30-45 mins if you’re passing nearby. However I must say the video at the end of the museum exhibition was very well done!
Josh M — Google review
Visited with family as it had been recommended to us as something to do in Enniscorthy. The exhibit is rather outdated and unfortunately looks to be underinvested and unmaintained. At numerous parts of the exhibition there were missing items, buttons that didn’t work or interactivity that just did not respond. At some points it felt like a bit of a joke. The lighting was so dim or non-functional in parts that you couldn’t read the information without using a phone as a torch. There were boxes that said “look here” but nothing could be seen. Teaching history is vital to ensure the mistakes of the past are not repeated but it’s hard to take on board the historical knowledge when the technology doesn’t work. It was just a bit disappointing overall unfortunately.
Sean G — Google review
Lovely, welcoming staff. An enjoyable visitor experience and very educational. The tour itself is self-led and multimedia. Some of the audio and video was not working properly which is a pity. Nonetheless, it's well designed and, when it worked well, it worked VERY well. The storytelling and modelling was excellent. Standouts were the forge scene and the main battle event. Free parking and a busy cafe onsite are a bonus.
Fluffsryan — Google review
Unfortunately this attraction is not accessible. The staff were very pleasant at the desk. However the exhibition itself was a confusing let down. The font used on the information boards was a very strange choice. It is difficult to read script, often in colours like red, layered on top of busy photographs. Combine this with the low lighting and I basically couldn't read anything. Other displays didnt have this font problem but instead we're hanging at 45 degree angles so you have to bend your head to the side to read it. Its all just very strange. I am a wheelchair user and checked in advance to make sure the location is accessible and it says online that it is, but in reality it is not. Areas of the floor are bumpy cobblestones which I was not able to propel myself across. You have to cross them to continue so I needed another person's help just to move. The exhibits are so close together that when you press a button to hear the audio it overlaps with the people in front of you and behind into a general garbled sound. We just couldn't make out what was being said. When you want to go back upstairs you need to get in the lift one at a time. So I get in in my wheelchair and my partner has to go upstairs to let them know I want to come up (we were told the staff activate the lift). What would a disabled person do on their own? The video upstairs was better. I also was not offered a free carer ticket like at many other attractions, this is particularly disappointing considering I physically needed another person there just to be able to move across the floor. I am from Wexford and understand the importance of the information being shared so it was disappointing to see how it is being displayed. Really needs a new location or a complete redesign with the imput of someone knowledgeable of accessibility

Huntington Castle & Gardens is a historic castle with lush gardens, a tearoom, and a farm. The castle has been in the same family since it was built in 1625 and offers fascinating tours led by knowledgeable guides who share anecdotes and history. Visitors can explore the sculptural garden, take leisurely walks through the wooded area, and admire the blooming flowers. The property is also home to peacocks freely roaming in the courtyard and sheep grazing in the meadow.
I stayed there for one night. Lovely place to stay and enjoy. This castle has interesting history and lots of property to take walks and baby lambs :) breakfast was wonderful in the morning! Alexander is a great host!

We stayed in one of the rooms for a night June 2025. Alex was great to answer our questions. We walked the grounds which were lovely. The history in the castle with antiques and paintings was fascinating. Breakfast was included and the as delicious. Worth a stay, wish we had stayed longer!!

We stayed here at the b and b and also took the tour. If you want a castle stay in Ireland that is unique and authentic this is perfect. Stay in a beautifully appointed castle room, surrounded by art in a castle owned and run by the family that has been there since the 1600’s. It’s surreal! You feel as if you have the grounds to yourself in the evening with beautiful gardens to stroll. I would recommend bringing a bottle of wine to stroll through the rose garden. There are few opportunities to have authentic experiences like this one. Unforgettable. (Booked on air b and b and through their website)

Beautiful gardens. Nice tea rooms. Didn't get to do the castle tour but I'll be back.

Fantastic guided tour. The guide was so knowledgeable and answered all our questions. I can’t believe I didn’t know that such a beautiful and interesting place existed until now 🏰🌳

Loved the castle and tour, guided by the owner Moire. Only cakes with teas and coffee though, nothing more substantial to eat. Lovely courtyard with plenty of seating and tables inside and out with an abundance of peacocks!

I highly recommend the tour of the house and gardens. It is very informative. The house has character and there is quite a majestic drive up to it.

As a wedding florist, Huntington Castle is truly one of my favourite venues to work in. Every corner of this historic castle exudes charm and character, offering the perfect backdrop for romantic, intimate celebrations. The gardens are absolutely stunning — full of lush greenery, seasonal blooms, and beautifully kept grounds that make for the dreamiest outdoor ceremony or photo setting. Inside, the castle’s timeless atmosphere adds such warmth and authenticity; it’s like stepping into a real-life fairytale. From a supplier’s perspective, the team at Huntington Castle is a pleasure to work with — welcoming, professional, and always ensuring everything runs smoothly for couples and their vendors alike. If you’re dreaming of an intimate wedding in your own Irish castle, surrounded by history and natural beauty, I couldn’t recommend Huntington Castle more highly

Altamont Gardens, situated on the banks of River Slaney in Ireland, is a stunning 16-hectare landscape consisting of manicured lawns and woods. It also boasts an arboretum that houses a variety of oaks and rhododendrons. The gardens are home to an assortment of wildlife such as peacocks, swans, squirrels and wild hare that roam around the area surrounding the ornamental water-lily lake.
It's great to see the garden blooming with beautiful colours. Many trees have been cut down but this has revealed beautiful views. €2 paid parking for the whole day. Accessible and well maintained toilets and a shop with plants are a plus of this place. I highly recommend it

Hidden gem!! Absolutely lovely place to go to if you like gardens and flowers. It is beautiful, i went there yesterday, the flowers were in full bloom, it was lovely. It s very relaxing there, good energy around. They have a café with tables outside and a few games at the tables for kids. It kept mine happy for an hour. I would recommend this place 100%. It is €2 for parking and free entrance. Well done to the gardeners!! 🙂👍

Altamont gardens is my idea of heaven. I have visited several gardens in Ireland, but this beats them all so far. Everything is so well curated that the gardeners' work is seamless and every little part of it just makes sense. Also, the cards on sale at the coffee shop are handmade and truly original. Can't recommend this place enough.

Gorgeous, the grounds are an amazing mix of cultured and wild, with fabulous specimen trees... my favourite was a dead tree in the Ice Age Glen, covered in Porcelain mushrooms, and the little diver in the lake (a New Zealand Grebe?). 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️

Altamont Gardens is truly a piece of heaven. I can’t even put into words what my eyes have seen... We spent about two hours walking among these incredible plants, flowers, and trees, like they were handcrafted by God himself. Honestly, we were absolutely sure we’d spent that time on a different planet. It’s the kind of place that makes you forget everything else - just pure peace, beauty, and a connection with nature like no other. If you ever get the chance to visit, don’t think twice. Trust me, it’s an experience you’ll never forget.

An absolutely beautiful garden! Nice cafe where we had coffee and sweets and then we set off to do the river walk. We were only there for about 2 hours and could have done with a bit more time, but definitely worth this time!

An oasis of tranquility. Great place to spend couple hours switched off from modern world while enjoying colours and sounds of nature. Car park, picnic area and toilets available. Also, Altomont Gardens is a place for gardening enthusiasts as you can buy various different shrubs, flowers and trees. Visit and you wont regret.

Absolutely love altamount gardens it's definitely one of my favourite gardens to visit, you can have a picnic at the car park, it does tend to get a bit windy its a pity they got rid of all the trees as it was a bit of shelter, they could do with a bit of shelter for the outdoor seating area, they have a one way system now as well which I didn't think was greatly visible but mind you I wasn't wearing my glasses 😆 so I'll take the blame on that one, so beautiful would love to see the house open to the public

Burtown House & Gardens and The Green Barn is a historic estate with abundant flower, vegetable, and woodland gardens. The rustic cafe offers diverse and tasty dishes made with fresh seasonal ingredients from the walled kitchen garden. It's a perfect lunchtime stop off en route or a pleasant 50-minute trip from Dublin for a Sunday outing. Visitors can enjoy a stroll through the snowdrop-blizzarded gardens adorned with sculptures, sundials, and a stream.
Went for Sunday lunch with our baby. Staff were accommodating sitting us without a booking. The food was just fabulous! So delicious!! The chefs are amazing, massive credit to them producing such wonderful tasty dishes. I had the catch of the day and the fish was cooked perfectly. I was just disappointed that we didn’t have time to get dessert as we had an appointment to run off too. But it’s more reason to go back again soon! We live in Dublin City but this is worth the trip and €50 for 3 courses of great quality delicious food is good value compared to what we would pay for the same in Dublin.

We had our wedding at Burtown House and we chose it as we did not want a typical hotel wedding, and also because the food at Burtown is always excellent. It was the most magical venue, we were blessed with the weather and the gardens were stunning, the photos are all amazing. The food and drinks were delicious (as always from Burtown) and the staff were very friendly and attentive. All of our guests had a wonderful time. The icing on the cake was that our dog was allowed to be part of the ceremony. We would highly recommend it for weddings.

The Green Barn is not cheap. But oh ..lunch today was wonderful. We had the fish of the day accompanied by fresh veg from the garden right outside the window… imaginatively cooked, beautifully presented, refined and delicious. For homegrown produce and such quality I’m happy to pay extra.. Just one small thing… don’t ever again ..as long as you live … squirt fruit syrup over the creme brûlée…a delicate dessert destroyed ! Good coffee and lovely service. Top marks for a lovely afternoon

We stayed at Burtown House and Gardens for one night, a visit that was meant to be very special as my partner had planned to propose during our stay. Unfortunately, a series of issues made the experience disappointing. The day before our arrival, we received an email from the owner asking to move our dinner reservation to an earlier time, questioning how we had managed to book the original time, even though it had been arranged months earlier in April. When we arrived, we were told our room wasn’t ready and were offered a different one instead, despite having specifically booked our preferred room in advance. My partner had also contacted the owner ahead of time to arrange a few small touches in the room to help make his proposal extra special. The owner assured him this would be taken care of upon arrival, but sadly, nothing was arranged or acknowledged. Despite the setbacks, the staff at The Green Barn restaurant were absolutely lovely, warm, apologetic, and professional. The food was excellent, and they truly did their best to make us feel welcome, even though the issues were outside of their control. While the grounds and interiors are undeniably beautiful, we were left with the impression that the accommodation side of the experience isn’t given the same care or attention. It was particularly disheartening for my partner, as the situation ultimately impacted what was meant to be a memorable and joyful occasion. We had initially considered this venue for a future wedding, but given our experience, we’ve decided to look elsewhere.
Louise V — Google review
Not a bad place for lunch or dinner, but probably more suitable for those who live nearby. I don't think I'll go there again from Dublin. Also I was surprised that the Sunday menu is presented as a set menu and it is more expensive than the usual one by 6 euros. Usually the set menu is cheaper than if you take everything separately and the choice of dishes in the sunday menu is limited, no steak or burger and less starters. The food was good, the only thing is we waited almost an hour for our main course, quite a long time. I also think that the farm walk is not worth to pay the money, I advise you to skip it.

DO NOT BOOK THIS PROPERTY. This was one of the worst accommodation experiences we’ve ever had. We booked expecting a relaxing, comfortable stay at a premium rural property, but what we got was an unmanaged, overpriced, and utterly neglectful. The power went out around 11am on our first day and was still off when we checked out the next morning. We were left completely stranded with no electricity, no working kitchenette, and most importantly, no communication whatsoever from the host. They knew we were staying on-site, without a vehicle, and with extremely limited reception, yet no effort was made to check in, assist, or even acknowledge the situation. We had brought our own food to cook, only to find we couldn’t use anything. We couldn’t order transport into town or even charge our phones. It’s disgraceful that a property charging these rates left guests without even the most basic amenities or care. To make things worse, we were never given a gate code to exit, forcing us to wander around looking for help just to leave. Two separate groups of guests came INTO our room seeking answers as to why the restaurant closed early, showing that we weren’t the only ones completely abandoned. And during the night, a dog, which restaurant staff confirmed belonged to the host’s family, repeatedly scratched and cried at our door until we let her in, then barked to get out again. No one was available to assist or take responsibility yet again. We attempted multiple times to reach the host via email, Booking.com messages, and Instagram. All messages went unanswered. Eventually, the host offered a refund and asked for my bank details, but after that, they completely stopped responding. We gave up after being ignored for weeks. The most appalling part came after I left an honest review on Booking.com. The host responded publicly with outright lies - claiming they reimbursed us 50% (which never happened), that “all phone lines in Ireland were down” (also false, the property had poor service as it was rural but we were able to walk around to find spots with service), and even denying the dog was theirs. I have emails directly from the host admitting they were off-site because their children were working at a music event and acknowledging their failure to communicate rather than just blaming it on external circumstances. Their public statements are simply dishonest. This property is overpriced, mismanaged, and run by someone who refuses to take accountability. The lack of care, transparency, and integrity shown was appalling. Save yourself the stress, money, and disappointment, do not book here under any circumstances.

Overpriced mediocrity and notions like you wouldn't believe. We had lunch at The Green Barn Restaurant and explored the grounds. My party went for the 2 course lunch for €45 expecting something more than average. The food tasted great and was well presented, but Ireland has become such a food mecca that standards are high everywhere and this was something you could get at many pubs in Dublin for a more reasonable price. Maybe the edibles flowers sprinkled on top of the food drove up the price. The wait staff was incredible! They provided great customer service and attention. It was unpleasant overhearing the chef complain that we were there too long. Mind you, there wasn't a queue waiting for a table. There was such a pretentious vibe for an average place in the middle of nowhere. You were charged a fee to explore the garden, sculpture trail and farm. There are places like this all over Ireland that are more scenic and free. The grounds aren't the best for pushing around a stroller/buggy and definitely would be difficult for anyone with mobility issues. Our experience would have been better if the establishment wasn't such a money grab and if the host and chef didn't make us feel unwelcome. We only went there because it was halfway between where we lived.

DO NOT BOOK TO STAY The most disappointing Airbnb experience. Such a shame as it was a special occasion and we paid over £2,500 to stay for 3 nights. The host and the issues we encountered ruined a really special occasion. Thankfully Airbnb refunded me after reviewing my evidence of the multiple issues with my stay - after the host refused a partial refund, didn’t get back to my message and then ignored Airbnb themselves. If you are staying for a special occasion please take my advice and go elsewhere. If you stay then book through Airbnb and if have any issues then go through Airbnb and take photos of issues. The twin room was uninhabitable to sleep in with a baby - it was 27c throughout the stay (the rest of the house and the other 2 bedrooms were an ambient 18c). This was caused by the boiler overheating (located in the wardrobe of that room). It was exacerbated by the aga in the kitchen below set to MAX and the heating in the bathroom next door to the bedroom set to 27c (in July). The host tried to assist in resolving this during our stay but efforts to resolve the issue was unsuccessful and the heat remained. We wasted a whole day staying in the house trying to sort this ourselves with the host texting instructions and then later sending someone to try fix the boiler. The host when he came to see the issue acknowledged the heat was excessive and apologised. But when I requested a partial refund he suddenly claimed 27c was an acceptable temperature to sleep in (despite cool Irish weather outside and the rest of the house being cool). The bath in the master bedroom was not useable - it only dribbled cold water - the plumber said this was a pre existing issue they were aware of but it hadn’t been fixed. The tap in the master sink also had dirty water coming out of it. Disappointing we couldn’t use this feature bath tub and they knew about the issue before and hadn’t fixed. The property needs some repair which isn’t shown in photos - Furniture was broken (arm in chair in master bedroom), stair spindle broken and hanging off, kitchen floor board large splinters in one area, photos of the main bathroom are taken at an angle where they don’t show the excessive limescale on tiles - not a big issue for us but demonstrates a general point for me which is disrepair and deceptive photos. Also note if you stay with kids as broken wood hanging off furniture and stairs is dangerous. If you are travelling with children be aware there is no cot - I checked in advance and told it was broken and hasn’t been replaced. We don’t live in Ireland and I specifically booked as it said there was a cot, so we had to go buy one. There were points where we had no hot or cold water during the stay. All of these issues could have been somewhat overlooked if the host had been more conciliatory in his response, however he was anything but. The host didn’t seem concerned we spent 3 nights sleeping on the floor of the lounge downstairs (having paid over £2,500 to stay for 3 nights). He was aware of this as I requested help moving mattresses downstairs for the second night - having spent the first night on the floor. I politely requested a partial refund just to cover the cost of the one bedroom which was not inhabitable. Most reasonable of me given all the issues. The host declined, suddenly dismissed the issues he had acknowledged in person and never responded to me - he then ignored Airbnb customer services too when they contacted him. Having read some Google reviews it seems he has done this before to other people - I wish I had seen these reviews before booking! I’m so grateful to Airbnb for helping me with a refund (luckily I took photos to evidence the issue). I would never return here. The vegetable garden is beautiful, the property setting is lovely and it’s so handy to have a cafe in walking distance on site but the unreasonable response from the host and the issues with heat and water are unforgivable. The restaurant food was ok. The farm walk is a joke - save your money and go in the veg garden.

Sights & Landmarks
Rancho Reilly Pet Farm, located in Graiguecullen, is a family-friendly destination offering a variety of activities for kids. The four-acre farmland features a pet farm with ponies, miniature goats, rabbits, cows, reindeer, pot-bellied pigs and various birds. In addition to typical farm animals like sheep and pigs, the petting farm also houses snakes and bearded dragons for the more adventurous visitors.
Lots of confusion here with the name etc. So it's still rancho reilly. Rustic is gone. It's a campsite only but has its own pet farm. The old main building is gone due to a fire. We have a new sole owner the amazing Eoin whom is the host with the most. A lot of investment has gone into updating the site and its very visible. Playground loads new stuff. New cafe that doubles as a common area. Toilets are maintained throughout the day. The free frog hunt and tractor rides are a great unique touch. Eoin travels the campsite over the weekend having fun with all the guests eg playing football, tennis even raced a bunch of us and yes he won. You can't help but want him and rr to succeed and excell. We thought we would just go this once but are already planning our return. Nearest shops are 3 mins drive away. One pic is of kt fight that was put up on a big screen in the camping area (not sure whom organised but thank you). Highly recommended to all families.

Just spent 3 nights here. Overall a very enjoyable experience. Great spot for families. Kids really enjoyed it especially the animal petting farm. They loved the play ground and tractor ride. Lots to keep them entertained. Also great entertainment for adults including bingo and music in the evenings. Nice selection of hot food in the shop at a reasonable price. Staff were very friendly and accommodating to our large group. Very relaxed and friendly campsite! Toilets and showers were ok. No toilet paper or soap available which was an inconvenience but other than that we had no complaints! Will definitely be back

So glad ranchos has reopened, had a great weekend. Eoin, oisin and the team have done a great job cleaning and rebuilding it, the new cafe is a great addition and the menu is perfect and delicious. Can't wait to see what else they add. Tractor ride is great not just for kids but and its free and that includes the muddy pool they drive into.
Diarmuid W — Google review
We stayed one night as we were passing through the area. Eoin was very welcoming, the site was well laid out, good lighting to the toilets( which are a bit rustic but kept clean and tidy). The animals were a huge hit with the kids and the play area.
Deirdre S — Google review
Fantastic place to go camping with young children! You have access to the petting farm with horses, pigs, deer, snakes, lizards, rabbits etc, horse rides, tractor rides, playground, cafe and indoors play zone all included in the price you pay to camp. In the evening there is a frog hunt, fire pits, it is a really good place to visit. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was because of the water was not reliable for showers etc
Tilly's W — Google review
Visited in April 2017 with our two kids 7 and 4. Very good value - €6 per child and €3 per adult. No time limit, spend as long as you like. Has lots of attractions all free - playground, petting zoo (bunnies, snakes, lizards), donkey and pony rides, go cart track, sandpits, farm animals to feed, indoor play center and café with hot food and lots of seating with reasonable food prices but also picnic areas if you want to bring your own. Staff were very friendly. When my daughter was upset after spilling a drink the owner spent over 10 mins joking with her to cheer her up and gave both kids a free lollipop. Lots of free parking too. Highly recommended.

Great day out for family's.... All the staff are so friendly. Its great value for money and plenty activities for the kids. Wear wellies and old clothes ;-)

The owner is an absolute gent. As a venue it's a bit rough around the edges but the kids loved it. Loads of animals to interact with and a massive play ground. They even have a tractor ride.

Tintern Abbey

Sights & Landmarks
Tintern Abbey, a 13th-century Cistercian abbey located on the Hook Peninsula, is a popular destination for families. The ruins, including the nave, chancel, tower, chapel, and cloister, were partly converted into living quarters after 1541. Visitors can explore the history through information boards and enjoy walks around the site. The facility is maintained by volunteers and offers guided tours as well as a tearoom for refreshments.
It's a beautiful place with great woods to have a walk. The abbey is amazing and the birds are very friendly too. While there it worth to try the Badger and Dodo cafe. In the walled garden you can find things you never thought you will see in Ireland, like grapes hanging from the ceiling.

This is a most unexpectedly pleasant spot! Great history with medieval walks and old ruins. Informative guides or self guided tour available. Fabulous gardens with on site made apple juice and cider cafe. A stunning spot! €21 for a family ticket if 2 adults, 1 x 20 yr old and 1 x under 18. U18’s go free. There is also a trail which ends at a local pub/restaurant that serves high quality food.
Eimear O — Google review
Tintern Abbey is a breathtaking site that beautifully blends history, nature, and tranquility. Surrounded by lush woodlands and peaceful walking trails, the abbey ruins are incredibly well-preserved and atmospheric. The towering stone arches and intricate details evoke a deep sense of wonder and reverence for the past. It’s easy to imagine the monks who once lived and worked here. The guided signs and information panels enhance the visit without disrupting the serenity of the space. We especially loved the nearby bridge and the scenic walk through the forest and along the river. It’s a perfect stop for history buffs, families, or anyone looking for a peaceful escape in County Wexford.

Small but interesting abbey. Walk down to the bridge for a great view. Well worth the short walk to the walled garden. €6 for the abbey and gardens, great value.

The Dunbrody Famine Ship Experience is a top tourist attraction in the South East of Ireland, featuring a faithful reproduction of an 1840s emigrant vessel. Visitors can explore themed exhibitions, take guided tours, and interact with costumed interpreters to gain a deeper understanding of the famine emigrant experience. The attraction offers a unique insight into the resilience and courage displayed by Irish emigrants during desperate times.
Well worth the time and price of admission. The ship is a replica of the original and getting to experience the conditions and understand the desperation of the people making the leap of faith to leave the country is sobering. You have full access to explore the ship after the the presentation.

Would recommend anyone to visit. The Dunbrody ship is an exact replica of the actual famine ship. Our tour guide Orla was very knowledgeable and friendly. You have as much free time as you like to explore the museum once your tour is done. It was also my birthday and the staff kindly sang me happy birthday.
Shane B — Google review
A fantastic guided tour by Ann-Marie, I believe which is run hourly, and also the actresses who played two different characters with real names from the Dunbrody. One character from the upper first class deck and another from steerage of the ship. Both had very interesting monologues and stories! The video and exhibition space they had was also very good. O relax, I’d definitely recommend a visit.

This is a must. The story told about this ship and the people that were on it was captivating. The staff did an amazing job showing and explaining what happened and why. It's about the famine and immigration of the Irish people to America. Well worth a visit.

If you are near New Ross, this is worth stopping by. The tour happens every hour and is worth going on. The staff are very knowledgeable and it's amazing to see what a famine ship looked like.

Energetic and interactive tour, with some actors. Appeared to give a really good insight into the ship, its role of it and similar others at its time at a key point in history. Enjoyable and glad we made the detour for it. Nice cafe upstairs does breakfast and cakes etc really friendly and couldnt fault either. Small generic gift shop at the end nothing special but it doesnt need to be as its not like you want to buy a rat or able to buy a piece of the real boat 😆.

Emo Court House, a grand 18th-century historical landmark designed by James Gandon, is situated in extensive landscaped grounds which contain over 1000 different trees and shrubs from all over the world. The house boasts an impressive green dome and also has a tearoom & gift shop for visitors to enjoy. Visitors can take guided tours of the house or opt for a scenic stroll through woodlands to Emo Lake.
Lovely walks, interesting history and flora. Great tea rooms with pretty outside space. No admission charge unless you want a tour of the house which was closed when we visited.

Finally after 6 long years the house is back open to the public. Well done to the OPW for all their work and effort to restore this James Gandon designed architectural masterpiece and offer the public the opportunity to explore and bask in it's might. True to Gandon's signature style, the Rotunda of the building is it's crowing glory, it has that wow factor as everyone who participated in the tour ascertained as we gaped at its splendour and magnificene with vocal approval and appreciation. The attention to detail in both the architecture and various art pieces and heirlooms that caught my eye the most. It's amazing that the OPW put an effort into the restoration of the basement and bringing the 'servants' quarters and work spaces to life, often overlooked in grand tours. Well done to Frances for her insight and warmth throughout the tour, míle buíochas ó mo chroí. And a shout out to the dude working at the front desk, he was very courteous and friendly. The current tour offering is in its infancy, as the house is not long re-opened. There are some creases to iron out I'm sure but for a new venture on the OPW circuit of grand homes, this is a delight. Tours are offered on the hour and last an hour, covering the first floor and basement. I would have loved to get into the grand library, however restoration works are still being carried out in there. Maybe in time the upstairs will be ready too.

Gorgeous stop if you drive from Dublin to Galway. We visited the place on a miserable, rainy and windy day, but the house tour was so good and entertaining, that we completely forgot about the weather for an hour. Our tour guide, Tom was brilliant, he was enthusiastic and informative and the house is lovely: beautiful rooms and there is a lot to see. They have 3-4 types of watch and find activity sheets for children, the guided tours start at every hour, there is no self guiding option, but it`s understandable. The cafe is nice too, they have vegan and gluten free options as well.

A place worth visiting! There are free parking spots available right next to the park or a bit further away if you enjoy walking through the forest or along the main road. On-site, there are free public toilets and a small shop where you can enjoy a cup of coffee or tea and grab something sweet. You can visit the palace for a fee or simply take a pleasant free walk around the lake and surrounding grounds. A lovely spot for a peaceful day out!

Rock of Dunamase is a 12th-century castle ruin located in a serene country setting, offering sweeping views of the surrounding countryside. Managed by Tom & Marie Treacy, this family-run establishment is known for its quality food made from fresh local ingredients. The climb to the top provides panoramic vistas and ample space for exploration, making it suitable for visitors of all ages. The ruins hold historical significance as they were once home to Norman lord Strongbow and his wife Aoife.
This castle ruin is located off a main road so easy to find. It is up a hill but not difficult to walk. Definitely with the visit, especially for the views.

If you enjoy ruins then you must see this. It's an amazing set up on a hill that overlooks the countryside. The remaining ruins are set in three sections each have some hidden gems. Terrific photo opportunities as well and based on the size of the parking area (very small). Not a ton of people go there at one time. I really enjoyed the history behind it. If you enjoy history and can imagine the fortifications it's a terrific place to see.

A phenomenal ruined castle situated in a breathtaking spot high above the valley, once owned by the great medieval statesman and knight William Marshal, this should be top of your list if you're in the vicinity. Free entry and parking.

Rock of Dunamase is a fantastic little stop just off the main road. We were driving from Dublin to Killarney. I was looking for a place to stop and stretch our legs. This was perfect; better than I hoped for. There is a small little parking lot. From there you can see the ruins. It's just a short walk up the hill to the site where you can walk amongst the castle ruins. The views on top are incredible. You can really soak in the beauty that is Ireland. Free. Easy to Access. Stunning.

Very cool castle ruin to stop at just south west of Dublin on your way south to Cashel or Cork, planned it as our first stop in Ireland after the long flight. Arrived around 10:45am and it was quiet. Very few people around. Beautiful views at the top. (Slight incline up but easy enough) no bathrooms tho so find a bush lol. Plenty of parking at the bottom of the trail next to the old church. Tour busses do drop off crowds of people so go early if possible.

Beautiful gardens for a walk with the whole family, and at the same time you can learn about the interesting history of this place. Excellent playground for children. Toilets are available there. Five euros for full day of parking. House was burnt 1922 after the building had been occupied by Police so called - Black and Tans troops. The "Black and Tans" were British ex-servicemen recruited into the Royal Irish Constabulary as temporary constables to reinforce police in Ireland during the Irish War of Independence. They earned their nickname from the makeshift uniforms of dark tunics and khaki trousers. The Black and Tans were known for their brutal tactics, which included reprisals against the civilian population, in attempts to suppress the Irish Republican Army.

Beautiful woodland area with some fantastic trees. Walled garden very colourful. Would imagine other flower beds would be stunning earlier in the year, we visited in September. Also fantastic value at €5 for parking (you tap your card on the way out of the car park) and no entry fee to the gardens themselves. Well worth a visit.

Woodstock Gardens is a great place to visit whether alone or with family and friends. Lovely walks and trails around the gardens and the whole area. There's a lovely looking tea rooms where you can get some refreshments inside and outside but only open in season. Closed when we went on weekday in early September. Open weekends till October it seems. Good car park with a 5 euro fee but they accept cards.lovely playground for children as well. . Lovely way to spend a day.

Delightful place to visit and during Summer, parking (entry) is free on Wednesdays. There is a playground for children, great (well-posted) loop walks through the forest and grounds. The skeletal remains if the house is a sad remainder of a turbulent past. There are several benches where on can sit and enjoy the views from the hillside location. The garden section has many favorites and exotic plants on display. Dont miss the tree that has branches displaying two different types of leaves!

Very well-maintained and beautiful gardens including Victorian-style tea room. Large in scale and perfect for walking, with spectacular views of surrounding landscape around the very scenic Inistioge area. On a recent visit I noticed a sign outside the public toilets indicating that transport is available for disabled visitors to the tea room at set times. Great idea and very welcome. There are a number of large picnic benches adjacent to the car park and a kids play area is close by. On-site toilets are located within the car park. Entry is €5 per car payable on exit. Gardens are really clean and litter-free. During inclement weather it was nice to shelter beneath a heavy-duty marquee covering the picnic area whilst eating. Note: tea room and coffee trucks close at 5pm but gardens remain open until 7pm. However, toilets were shut by 4:30pm on my last visit.

Reginald's Tower is a 13th-century circular waterside defense tower in Waterford, Ireland. It is part of the Viking Triangle, an area that offers key attractions such as the House of Waterford Crystal and the award-winning Medieval Museum. The tower has Anglo-Norman origins and was originally part of a Viking fort, making it about 1000 years old.
We flew to Ireland to join a bus tour of Ireland. Started in Dublin, then toured the island and finished in Dublin. It was a great tour. One of the stops was Waterford where we first toured the glass factory and then had lots of time to walk around the waterfront area. Lots of history here. Reginald’s Tower is a very picturesque 1300th century tower down by the Waterfront. Busy with tourists taking pictures.

We were not sure whether to pay to go in, but we are glad we did, and found that children under about 12 are free. A really helpful and welcoming member of staff when we entered, then after climbing all the way to the top watched a really informative video about the history of the tower and Viking Triangle and Waterford. Plus good views of the waterfront through the small windows! Lots of information boards on the remaining 2 floors - plus I enjoyed the Lego models on the ground floor! There's also a canon ball from 1650 lodged in the outside of the wall. So lots of see - our kids enjoyed it. I guess we had about 30-45 mins there.

Been visiting and then living here in Waterford for years but never visited this tower. This particular day had free admission so we popped in. I would gladly pay the small admission fee though, it was so interesting. It is the root to Waterford's history and how the city began. Highly recommend joining the guided tour (approx 50mins) rather then self guided, you can ask questions and gain many more interesting fact. Unfortunately I've forgotten the young ladies name who guided us but she worked at the Book of Kells last year (I learnt more interesting facts about this too), she was charming, friendly and passionate, thank you. Any tourist coming to Waterford, do not miss this.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Incredible place where history feels alive 🏰✨ Reginald’s Tower was one of the highlights of my time in Waterford. Knowing this was the exact spot where the Vikings founded Ireland’s first city made it feel so special. The name Waterford comes from the old Norse word Veðrafjǫrðr(meaning something like windy fjord) 🌊⚔️.Standing there, I truly felt like I was in the middle of that history. The tower is small but powerful. It’s the oldest civic building in Ireland 🇮🇪 and has been everything from a Viking stronghold to a Norman fort, a mint, a prison, and more. You can still see the original stonework, and touching those ancient walls gave me a strange but amazing feeling — like I was connected to the people who stood there centuries ago 🪨🕰️. Deffo, I will go back to take more pictures 😆 My phone died.

Visitors can explore the craft studios and cafes in the area before taking a tour of the factory to see firsthand how these renowned crystal products are made.
Visiting the Glass Factory was absolutely worth it. Watching the skill of the glass blowers and cutters up close was fascinating. It’s not only a unique experience but also great value for money. Definitely a place I’d recommend visiting if you’re in Waterford!

My family and I came here in September 2025. We were a group of 7. We enjoyed ourselves. I loved the displays of beautiful crystal. I have a lot of Waterford Crystal and love looking at their new items. My husband bought a round of bubbly that was served in Lismore crystal. That was delightful! Four of us took the tour together. My husband and I visited about 20 years ago and took the tour then also. That's when I fell in love with Waterford Crystal. We loved the history and watching the people work at the different stations. This factory is where they make the specialty items, such as awards for different sporting events, the ball for new year's eve on Time Square, and many other interesting things. I highly recommend visiting here and taking the tour.

A must-do experience thanks to Bernie! Our visit to the House of Waterford was one of the absolute highlights of our trip, and it was largely thanks to our phenomenal tour guide, Bernie. Her passion and deep knowledge of the craft were evident from the start. What set this tour apart from any other we've taken was the incredible access. Bernie didn't just rush us through; she actively encouraged us to ask questions, and we had many! She answered every single one with patience and fascinating detail. The best part was the chance to see the "inside stuff." We got to go behind the scenes and speak directly with the master designers and artisans as they worked. It wasn't just watching from a distance; it was a real conversation. Seeing the intricate process up close and hearing about the inspiration from the creators themselves was an unforgettable experience. If you're in Waterford, you absolutely cannot miss this. Be sure to ask for Bernie's tour if you can. Schedule first thing in the day. It's a 5-star experience all the way!

Fascinating 45 minute guided tour learning about the history & how this world famous factory make their stunning crystal glass products. The craftsmanship & attention to detail is so admirable. Many of their products are readily available for purchase from their shop. Highly recommended & good value given the craft activities you get to see from closeup.

Waterford Treasures: Medieval Museum is a remarkable museum in Ireland dedicated to the medieval era. It is housed in a building that incorporates two medieval chambers, the 13th-century Choristers Hall and the 15th-century Mayors Wine Vault.
This museum has a fantastic mix of see, do and read. Too much reading in a museum is why people dislike them so much. This place had a wonderful array of artifacts. Staff were friendly and helpful. You really feel like you are stepping back in time as you enter. Get the Freedom pass as it is the best value.

Wonderful museum with so many treasures! From Henry the VIII’s hat to gold stitched cloaks, it’s a great museum on Waterford. If you can do a guided tour, you definitely should. Splurge for wine in the ancient wine vault.

What a marvellous place.. the people are really friendly, the collection one of a kind, with some real top notch stories. The atmosphere is wonderful and the guides know their history. In other words, a real gem to visit.. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to be there..

A truly fascinating experience! The exhibits at the Waterford Treasures: Medieval Museum are expertly curated, featuring expertly conserved artifacts that offer a stunning glimpse into the city's rich past. The staff were exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable, adding to the wonderful atmosphere. We purchased the Freedom Pass, which was absolutely worth it. It gives you access to five of the Waterford Treasures museums, making it a fantastic deal. If you're visiting Waterford, this museum is an absolute must-see!

Visited as part of the freedom pass (20euro) very nicely laid out, from the medieval wine cellar to the films on each floor giving more details about the exhibits. Enjoyed the story of the clergy clothes on the middle floor especially. The detail and craftsmanship of them is incredible!

I'd say that if you happen to be visiting Waterford this place is a must see. So rich in Irish history and lore. Give yourself about 2 hours to really take in everything, but you could rush through it in an hour. One thing I wish they'd add is a section on Irish mythology like Cú Chulainn, I feel like a lot of this has been lost to time.

Really enjoyed this museum. Great tour guide too. Lots of very historic information and displayes. Would definitely recommend a visit here.

Kilkenny Castle, located in the county town of Kilkenny, is a riverside castle with a beautifully restored interior that offers tours to visitors. The castle is surrounded by a large garden and features an art gallery and tearoom. The town itself boasts Ireland's most preserved Medieval center, along with the impressive Castle and Cathedral.
I really enjoyed visiting Kilkenny Castle. The castle is beautiful, well maintained, and full of history. The grounds are spacious and very peaceful, perfect for a walk and photos. One small issue is the parking. There is street parking right outside, but it only allows a maximum of one hour. I think that’s not sufficient, because the castle and gardens take at least two hours to fully enjoy. It would be great if longer parking options were available nearby.
Subin J — Google review
Impressive Castle, Just Be Prepared for the Crowds! A fantastic visit to the magnificent Kilkenny Castle. The building itself is beautifully restored, and the self-guided tour through the various rooms, especially the Long Gallery, is fascinating and well worth the price of admission. The sprawling parklands surrounding the castle are an absolute highlight – perfect for a walk, a picnic, or just letting the kids run around. It's a true gem in the heart of the city. The reason for docking one star comes down to logistics. We went on a weekend, and it was incredibly crowded, and we had to wait in a queue for a while to get in. Be prepared for that if you're not visiting on a weekday. The biggest challenge, however, is parking. Most of the on-street parking nearby is limited to a maximum of 1 hour, which is simply not enough time to explore the castle and grounds without constantly clock-watching. You're better off finding a car park a bit further away and walking. Overall, it is a must-see piece of Irish history. Just plan ahead for the potential crowds and parking situation to make your visit stress-free!

Beautiful, well maintained castle with lovely grounds. It was a great way to spend a couple rainy hours. There's a QR coffee at reach room so you can very more information on your phone. There's washrooms and a cafe at the castle as well. Our was about €11 to get in.

Nice castle, there are a lot of original furnitures and paintings, many languages printed guides. Enteance fee is 8 euro. You are to use one of the town parkings in vicinity. Enjoy!
Oleksandr P — Google review
We visited on a busy Saturday afternoon with tickets purchased online ahead of time. Theres a very large park connected to the castle that we walked around and explored for a while before our 4:00pm self guided tour. We spent 30 minutes inside walking around the castle taking pictures and finished our tour in the castle gardens full of flowers. We recommend the tour, though we personally enjoyed the castle from the outside more so than the inside as not much of it is original anymore.
Alex B — Google review
Ireland is overflowing with castles but this one is in much better shape than most and the staff is very accommodating. We thought a quick hour would do the trick... You'll need at least two hours to get through most of the highlights. Walking the pleasant grounds will require another 30 minutes and a good pair of shoes. The town of Kilkenny also offers a nice place to walk, dine and mingle with the very friendly locals. You can easily spend half a day here; plan accordingly.

Immerse yourself in the rich history of Kilkenny and its iconic brewery at the Smithwick's Experience. This interactive guided tour takes you through an 18th-century brewery, offering a fascinating insight into the heritage and brewing process of Smithwick's ale. Explore holographics, old machinery, and hops while being guided by passionate locals with deep roots in the brewery.
Great tour of an iconic brewery. It’s on the more “experience” end of tours, so more history and well polished exhibits. Tour guide Niamh was excellent, and answered all of our difficult and ridiculous questions. If you’re in Kilkenny you have to do it, well worth it. And definitely upgrade for the flight of beer.

This experience is well worth the stop if you are in Kilkenny. Our tour guide was fantastic (i feel terrible i have forgotten her name) and did an amazing job leading us through the history and science that is Smithwick's. The tour is very interactive and has a great production value. It is super engaging and interacting which was great as it was our 3rd brewery tour on our vacation. I highly recommend checking out the cream ale at the end of your tour. Absolutely delicious!!!

You must do this. We walked in and got a spot on a tour at noon. We brought our 5year old with us (kids <6 are free) and even he enjoyed most parts of it. Our tour guide, Simon, was absolutely excellent - full of knowledge and very well spoken on the history and story of Smithwick's. He made the experience really phenomenal. At the end, the barrel room for tasting was really great - comfortable and great service. I HIGHLY recommend this experience - and keep an eye out for the pamphlets with the 10% off QR code! They're all over Kilkenny (and ireland in general).

A solid tour of Smithwick's in Kilkenny - given by Daragh. He was both entertaining and informative! The history was very interesting, and the "picture room" was very cool. Literally moving pictures - and quite well done. The tasting experience, of the ingredients used in making beer, was a nice touch. And the beers afterwards, in the taproom, were well received and poured. Worth the visit, indeed!

We easily booked online. The guide did a good job in presenting the history of the city, brewing and business. The conclusion of the story can be unexpected, if you did not document upfront. Just a museum, not a live brewery anymore. Nice videos and interactions during the tour , it is touchy feely smelly. The price was a bit high in the end for 40 minutes of tour and one beer. The Kilkenny beer might have been the first served on that day, it was mostly foam and quite flat. Also, too cold in the tasting room and with very cold beer , hard to drink.

Joined this beer brewing tour and guided by Colin which gave us a very detail walk through history of brewing business by Smethwick family in kilkenny highly recommended if you ever visit kilkenny tour will take about 45 minutes and it comes with a complimentary beer at the end of the tour

A pleasantly surprising, educational and interactive, entertaining experience. Our young guide was funny and knowledgeable, and the modern sensory elements were delightful. The best part was smelling all the components and then getting to taste the flight of all of Smithwicks' best beers at the end!

We went on a tour with Maggie as our guide, and found her extremely warm and witty. She took time to answer questions and share a lot of information in a way that was fun and inviting. The physical tour was also well designed and we enjoyed the paddle of tasters we had at the end.

Rothe House & Garden is a well-preserved 1594 merchant's house in Kilkenny, Ireland. The complex includes stone-wall courtyards and a medieval well. It houses a genealogy center and a museum with over 2,500 artifacts, including Bronze Age items, ogham stones, and period costumes. The Burgage Garden replicates a typical 17th-century Irish merchant's garden with authentic plant types.
So much to see, the property is beautiful, especially the gardens!! Our tour guide Eleanor said she was new, but you would never have guessed it! He retelling of the rich history of the property, and the people that lived there, was interesting and fun! Absolutely worth the extra 1.5 to have the guided tour!

The gardens are beautiful. Unfortunately we were not able to take a guided tour but there are QR codes in each room for an audio tour which tell the history of the house and lots of good signage so we were still able to enjoy it. The gardens are beautiful, and the signage there is great as well, telling you about what was planted and how it was used. The whole family enjoyed this stop.

Roth House and garden is truly a secret garden in the middle of the city of Kilkenny, Ireland. It’s a very old walled garden, but you’d never know it was there unless you looked for it. It is behind a wonderful old house. This man accumulated the land and built this wonderful garden years ago, in the back of his home. Now it is open for the public to see for a small fee. First, you must go for a self-guided tour through the house then you come to this amazing walled garden. It’s not like a huge estate garden where everything is trimmed and perfect. This is more like a wild garden where plants can be natural and grow as they would like to and fall over and get entangled. There’s mixtures of so many different kinds of plants. There are some beautiful, trimmed trees and hedges and vegetable gardens and fruit trees, apple trees, a grape Arbor. It’s perfect place for birds and insects to do their thing. I was lucky to discover it on a nice sunny day and there were a few other people around, but it’s a perfect place to go and have a picnic. Here are some pictures of the house, that lead you to the garden and several videos of walking through the garden. The garden is only as wide as the house 70 feet maybe but it goes back forever several hundred feet. There is a small gift shop at the front and I believe you can buy plants there as well. A peaceful and tranquil place to visit. 🌞🦋🌻

We are so glad we did not skip the Rothe House & Garden. Ireland has a very dark history. Historical sites, such as the Rothe House help us better understand that history. The building has been beautifully restored. And now serves as a museum of sorts. While we enjoyed stepping through time during our visit at the Rothe House & Garden, we fell in love with its garden. Absolutely stunning. Photographs are great, but you really have to see this beautiful garden in person. Definitely add the Rothe House & Garden to your list of must see.

Rothe house and garden is well worth a visit. The young woman welcoming guests in the shop was a delight and we received a warm welcome and helpful information. The garden is beautiful in all seasons but we particularly enjoyed all the fall colors and textures, the herbs especially, the yellow pippins, the dried artichokes, and the many beautiful dahlias.

An old late 16th century merchant's town house and garden that has been restored to how it was originally, after centuries of reuse and later dereliction. Reasonable entry fee and the guided tour is just a little more, worth it if you like to know about the history of the house and those who lived here. Our guide Séan was very enthusiastic and an absolute font of knowledge - very impressive for a young man.

We are so glad we went to the Rothe House during our time in Kilkenny! We took a self-guided tour. The house itself was like stepping back in time, and its long history and many inhabitants tell a very interesting story about the history of Kilkenny and Ireland. In addition, the gardens behind the house were beautiful in July. It was fascinating to learn how they’ve discovered the types of fruits, plants, and flowers that would have been in the garden in medieval times and replicated it today.

St Canice's Cathedral is a 13th-century Catholic cathedral located in Kilkenny, Ireland. It is the second-largest cathedral in the country and has been well-preserved through careful restoration efforts. Adjacent to the cathedral is a 9th-century round tower with panoramic views of the city and surrounding countryside, which can be reached by climbing its 121 steps. The cathedral, along with Kilkenny Castle, forms part of Ireland's best-preserved medieval town center.
Beautiful cathedral in the heart of Kilkenny. I recommend the guided audio tour. An incredible amount of history within the Canice Cathedral. We opted for the cathedral and tower combination tour. If you are afraid of heights or have any balance/knee issues, the tower is definitely not for you.
Javier G — Google review
This medieval church is really beautiful and amazingly old! We also climbed the round tower, which was a one-of-kind experience with great views. Dating from the 9th century, it is hard to believe it’s still standing, let alone that you can climb to the top.
Annie J — Google review
A beautiful piece of history — With a Heart-Pounding Climb" St. Canice’s Cathedral is absolutely stunning, both inside and out. The architecture, stained glass, and centuries of history make it a place you can feel as much as see. We decided to climb the Round Tower — and wow, what an experience. The ladders inside are steep and narrow, and I’ll be honest, it was pretty terrifying on the way up. But when you step out onto the platform at the top, the view takes your breath away (in a much better way!). You can see the castle, the River Nore, and the countryside for miles. If you’re visiting Kilkenny and the weather is dry, don’t miss it — it’s an unforgettable combination of history, beauty, and just the right amount of adrenaline.

A highlight of our first 16-day trip to Ireland & still remaining a highlight after our second 1 week trip to Ireland! The fact you could go up to the top of the tower was awesome! What a view! It blew Kilkenny Castle out of the park for me. I even preferred Cahir Castle to Kilkenny Castle. This cute Cathedral though, with its lovely little round tower, perfection!! Sept 8, 2024.

Has to be on your list of places to see in Killkenny. We have been up to.tge castle many times and missed St Candice's. There is a small car park across the road, and a family ticket was around €24. Note you can visit just the Cathedral, or the Cathedral & round tower. I would highly recommend you don't skip the tower, but do not there are ladders and tight areas on the accent!! The cathedral itself is a a peaceful place to explore. Lots of interesting people buried in tombs, with information displayed as u explore. There are a few bits to keep the kids busy, wooden blocks to build a cathedral and some drawings. The cathedral also contains the red book of ossory. If I'm honest while it has huge historical significance, it's not much to look at 😂 The round tower is located directly adjacent to the cathedral. The enyrave is up a metal ladder. There is an attendant sitting just inside the tower, they will tell you if you if you need to wait based on who is already inside. Once u start climbing you will understand why rate limiting is so important! It's narrow/low and sometimes difficult on places. If u are a large person I'd avoid. The view from the top is great!!! Good spot to visit, don't skip it for the castle.

The Black Abbey, a 14th-century Dominican church and priory in Kilkenny, has been meticulously restored to its original grandeur. One of its most striking features is the Rosary Window, a stunning multi-colored stained glass masterpiece dating back to 1892. This impressive window is not only the largest of its kind in Ireland but also boasts vibrant colors and captivating scenes that come to life when illuminated by sunlight.
Our group wandered into the black Abbey just before 6 o’clock on a weekday evening recently. Were immediately impressed by the beautiful Stainglass windows, the dark Stone, and the field that the building gave off on this rainy evening. To our great fortune, A priest with their setting up for the 6 PM mass, and offered to give us an impromptu personal tour. Hearing the story of the Abbey, it’s historical struggles, recovery, and revitalization, was an amazing treat. This is a building that started off as an Abbey, then when English kinds invaded turned into literal barn, but with eventually returned to being a glorious church overseen by its original owners. This is the perfect place to come and sit for some quiet contemplation time, or to enjoy some beautiful art.

Over 800 years of history are hidden in the stone walls of Black Abbey. Fabulous stained glass windows (especially the Holy Rosary Window on the side nave), sculpture of the Most Holy Trinity, tell the stories of the past. And what a place to stop by, immerse yourself in the quiet of the place and reflect on life.

This is a Catholic Priory of the Dominican Order that is dated back to 1225. The abbey is maintained so well that you will get to feel how this must have been used as a place of worship by the monks in the olden times even before the Kilkenny town became what it looks like today. The stained glass window, called as the rosary window is simply magnificent. There is a lot to see in this abbey that is significant from the past.

On our travels to Durrow sightseeing the Castle and church in the square, decided to walk to Bob's bar. Strolled in on a Monday night and not a sinner in the place. Had a pint of guinness and a few snacks and walked around the pub to see the different rooms, alot of different artifacts to view, it's a bar and a museum, they do have a few TV's dotted around, nice outdoor area beside the river and located on the main street close to all amenities. My second time to visit this bar, first was in 2018 serving food for a wedding. A nice pub in a quiet town, will return.

The young lads behind the bar need abit more training on their barman skills. A bit more craic they could be. They also need to sort out the lighting, the bulbs over the bar are far too bright and glarey. Takes away from the whole pub atmosphere. Our experience of the place was just ok.

There were no staff available and minimal signage. A lot of areas were closed off due to construction, so only the long routes were available. Really nice for a romantic stroll or walk with the family. Also good for morning and/or evening exercise. Once you figure our how to read the map, you are left to hunt for the little colored arrows like Easter eggs. Again, some better signage would be great. Some of the information plaques are terribly weathered and need replacing. Had a mini photoshoot for my birthday. Pictures turned out great!

Would definitely recommend looking at the map if you're walking because it really is an expensive place. Loved the sculptures we did see, the others are kinda spread out.

Great place for a day out for all ages. Free entry and parking. Lovely staff. Walking and biking trails. Very interesting sculpture trail. Great variety of wild flowers especially wild orchids.

Great experience, they take great care of their birds. Willie was very good at explaining all about the birds, and guided us through with the Harrison hawk, it brought us great joy as the hawk flew on our arm and jumped on our head! learnt all about them. Beautiful owls and let us hold them and take great pics! 100 percent recommend. You can tell they take great pride and care for these beautiful birds

I cannot say enough great things about Willie and the Mayfield Birds of Prey experience. Willie is incredibly knowledgeable and gracious. The birds are thoughtfully and carefully cared for. And our experience flying Mikey the Harris Hawk and holding the other birds of prey was so fun and unpressured. If you are in the area, you should absolutely make a visit!

This experience was so good! Me and my parents haven’t been to a falconry experience ever before, and this truly gave me an unforgetable and fun impression on it. Willy and his son shaun guided us and helped us along the way. We took a harris hawk outside to fly, using bits of food to guide it, and took it in a big circle. Afterwards, we took pics with a few owls and throughout willy gave lots of easy- to -understand explanations and backstories of the birds, and he was very passionate about them. Really recommend coming here for a fun family, or couple experience!

Had such a personalized, enjoyable experience with Willie! He was so fantastic and made us feel extremely comfortable around the birds, which made our experience so exceptional. He was also a wealth of knowledge and was engaging with his knowledge-sharing. His passion for falconry and love for his birds makes this experience really special!

An amazing place with many owls & falcon, & baby eagles. I really enjoyed the stories of each bird from the owner who is awesome and extremely friendly. My wife and I had a fantastic extended time there.

We had the most amazing day at Mayfield Bird of Prey! From the very start, Willie went out of his way to accommodate us, and his warm, friendly nature instantly made us feel at home. My children, aged 5 and 2, were completely mesmerized. Willie has such a deep knowledge and genuine passion for these beautiful birds, and it really shows, not only in how he cares for them, but also in how much they clearly trust and adore him. The birds are so well looked after, happy, and thriving. What made the visit truly special was how Willie was able to share his knowledge in a way that was engaging for adults while still being fun and easy to understand for little ones. It wasn’t just a visit, it was an immersive experience that left all of us in awe. Thank you so much, Willie! The kids are already excited to come back next year to see the golden eagle all grown up. I can’t recommend this experience highly enough, it’s a must for families and anyone who loves wildlife!

Leap Castle, Ireland

Mentioned on

Castle
Sights & Landmarks
Leap Castle in Ireland is a 16th-century fortress that has a violent and tragic past, which many believe has left it haunted. While the castle may appear small on the inside due to its abundance of tables and gadgets, visitors should not miss the opportunity to explore the top floor for a breathtaking view and a visit to the first-floor bedroom. The castle's tour guide, Shawn, is known for sharing all of its stories with visitors.
Great experience. No entry fee, donations to support the castle restoration are encouraged. Castle owner provides a guided tour and tells the history of the castle, local area and Irish traditions. Open daytime and worth every minute you spend there. Great view from the 3rd floor.

One of the most haunted castles in Europe with a dark history. It was nice to be able to walk through and see how the owner Sean has kept it over the last 20+ years. A must see!

This is a drive up castle to get out and take pictures. I do not belive you can go inside the castle. Someone does live there. It is a nice castle.

A step back in time to a castle steeped in history. Sean, the owner has spent his life restoring the castle bit by bit. It was a shame I'd had car trouble that day, causing me to arrive only 30 mins prior to closure at 5:00. Do contact Sean in advance as a courtesy before you arrive, as it is their family home, as well as Castle. See the many videos there on You Tube about Leap Castle in advance, so you'll be somewhat aware of the history of this special place. Contact Sean by email. His contact address is on the official website, where you'll also find even further info about the Castle.

If your in to true history of castles, this may be a small one but the old guy who owns it lives there! He tells a good history story, hands you a flashlight and allows you to go up the narrow dark stairs to check it out. Must see. €6 to walk through but ring the doorbell first. A lot of artifacts to check out. Not for kids or people with small space anxiety.

Amazing castle ruin being refurbished by a true Irishman. The host was full of great historical information and even played the whistle for us. One of the best stops on our trip! Make sure you bring cash for the $6 suggested donation.

5 stars expérience. Sean was a great host and sharing is knowledge about the castle history was really interesting to listen to to. Visiting the castle was also impressive since he as done all the restoration by himself. Just make sure you knock at the door of the castle on arrival since the ring bell ain’t working.

Birr Castle Demesne is a stunning destination featuring award-winning gardens, rare trees, and peaceful rivers. The 50-hectare grounds are famous for their magnificent gardens set around a large artificial lake. Visitors can explore the castle's living quarters on tours during the summer months and learn about its rich history dating back to 1620. Additionally, the demesne houses a science center with a 19th-century telescope, offering insights into science and engineering history.
Outstanding historical site and home of Earls of Ross. Recommend half a day for this visit. The self guided museum tour is what we did and it was excellent. We went outside, walked around the gardens and saw the telescope. You need a few hours to spend in the gardens and you could do lunch there or bring a picnic. excellent educational value. Th third Earl of Ross designed built and used the telescope and the fourth Earl of Ross invented the steam turbine.

A "must see" if you're in Birr. Over 120 acres of buildings, walks, lakes and woods to explore. Entry fee is €12 pp and well worth it if you have a few hours to spare. Science Hall is a highlight as it features historical instruments on display. A really great attraction. Parking nearby.

Stopped off in Birr today and was not disappointed. A beautiful and historic place. A gardens are wonderful and the telescope, playground and castle itself are impressive. Hard to believe that from 1845-1914 this remained the largest telescope in the world! We didn’t get to sample the cafe but it looked good and the staff on reception were lovely - oh and for August children go free!!

Located adjacent to Clonmel Town Centre, the Showgrounds Shopping Centre is a prestigious retail development offering an extensive range of premier retailers and brands. With a strong focus on fashion, it features anchor tenants like Marks and Spencer, TK Maxx, and Argos Extra. The center provides a great shopping experience with ample parking facilities and a variety of shops all under one roof. Although some areas are currently unoccupied, it remains a popular destination for weekend shopping and leisurely outings.
Fantastic gig by the band Zrazy at the Vincent Hanley Summer School in the Clonmel Junction Arts Festival. Great audience, excellent all round. What a cool festival.
Maria W — Google review
Nice shopping centre with great parking facilities however its crying out for a few new shops, too many empty units. But the ones that are there are good.
Vincent B — Google review
Very sad to see the shops closed down. I use to love shopping here with the small clothes shops but unfortunately there aren't many left. Beauty shop has gone, No Name and Only are all gone along with Iceland. Need to get a few shops back in before the centre declines.
Moon S — Google review
Staff in m and s cafe very rude. I asked for my little cake to be heated for 10 seconds. Was told we don't heat them. My friend asked for her scone to be heated. They don't heat them either?? While being served by one girl interrupting her lifting up all the cake platters. Not a smile or a thank u.
JOYCE D — Google review
This is the only shopping center that you can find in Clonmel. It is okay, you have plenty of parking downstairs and upstairs, downstairs is always packed with upstairs being empty. The shopping center is in need of new shops, after many of them, including big brands like Argos and Iceland have closed up. There is a new show which has opened but there is still a lack of, and the shopping center often seems to be quiet, even during times when you expect it to be busy. There are 2 cafes here, BBs and Costa, of which Costa is better. You have pharmacies and the only 2 big shops here are Marks & Spencer and TK Maxx. There isn't much to come here other than the 2 big shops, if you don't want to go to them then you are out of luck really.

St. Patrick's Well

St. Patrick's Well is a serene and well-maintained site located in a sheltered valley near Clonmel, County Tipperary. According to legend, it was where St. Patrick and St. Declan first met over 1,600 years ago. The picturesque setting has been revered for centuries and is believed to be the place where St. Patrick converted the King of Munster to Christianity.
No picture can truly explain the feeling of peace and tranquility you experience when you stand in awe of the beautiful surroundings. The caretaker eagerly shared the history with us, making our trip so special. Will definitely be visiting again
Bernedette C — Google review
My review is effected due to the day of my visit as it was packed with school children doing what school children do and running into and out of every photo. Anyway, the location has much to admire and the old church and pond contrast each other. The statue is interesting with a lovely step entrance. I had no problem with parking and on another day I may just have had it all to myself, but on the plus side it was great to see children enjoying a site like this, it took ages to remove them all from the photos, cheers

What a amazing peaceful spiritual healing place... Met the lovely David who guided us through the pilgrim.. Sit with feet in water 20 mins then walk out to cross & around it 3 time clockwise for your intentions.. If you suffer with feet bring flip flop or light sandal. Beautiful place, donations box on site.. Horse in field beside can nip you so warning for all 😁... ❤️ 🇮🇪

Just a lovely peaceful place. But short to walk around . Worth a visit. Beautiful village nearby. Marl field with a super lake walk.

This place turned out to be a real hidden gem — a quiet, almost mystical corner near Clonmel, where you can truly feel the spirit of ancient Ireland. Walking down the steps into the valley felt like stepping back in time. In the middle of the crystal-clear spring stands an old stone cross, surrounded by the ruins of a small church and lush greenery. Legend says St. Patrick met St. Declan here, and the waters of the well are said to have healing powers. The whole place radiates peace — the sound of flowing water, the silence, and the sense that generations before you came here to pray and reflect. It’s one of those places where you simply stop, breathe deeply, and feel how special Ireland truly is.
Oksana O — Google review
We happened upon visiting this place, being referred to going by a local. I highly recommend pairing going with visiting Rock of Cashel as they intertwine. If you spot the local caretaker, Dave, on site, ask us he'll share his knowledge of the site. Dave really added to our experience. Finally, be sure to take off your shoes and walk out to cross. Circle it 3 times clockwise, then say a prayer. St. Patrick will head your plea. You can drink the water from the well. Kneel at the spring and let it flow into your water bottle. It is naturally clean due to the limestone.

Bike Park Ireland is a fantastic destination for mountain biking enthusiasts. Visitors can enjoy brilliant runs, efficient uplift services, great food, shower and bathroom facilities, bike wash, and delicious burgers for lunch. Whether you bring your own bike or hire one on site, the park offers everything needed for a great day of mountain biking including toilets, showers, cafe, bike hire, and camping facilities.
A truly exceptional day out. We traveled from London and haven’t had this much fun in ages. It was so good it’s hard to know where to start. There are trails for all skills levels, the blue jumps trail is particularly fun for beginners and intermediate riders. The army truck runs every 15 mins and collects you from the bottom of the trails (they all finish in the same place) and takes you and your bike to the trail heads. Or you can take the much harder (but very worthwhile) endurance climb to the top under your own steam. The views from the farm, particularly at the top are great. There were several people walking and relaxing while their families were riding. The cafe is great and sells very tasty goodies to keep you going. The mechanic’s shop excellent. You can use the equipment to resolve minor issues. I was amazed that the mechanic was able to repair a loose spoke and true my wheel by eye in less than 5 mins - an issue I thought was going to scupper my afternoon. In short - you have to go! This place is great. Enjoyed it so much we’re going to try and get another trip in before we go back to the UK. If that fails, we’re certain to make it the next time we’re on the right side of the Irish Sea.

Just finished our 1st time at Bike Park Ireland and had a great time. The staff are super helpful, food was excellent from the onsite cafe and not expensive. Changing rooms etc were clean and whole place was well maintained. Will def be back again soon to master the blue jumps run. Had a crack at the red jumps and the new black which was good but tough with its off camber rooted sections. Really worth travelling to go to. Gonna get a jersey soon too.

The Norman keep, standing over 30 meters high, boasts a stone spiral staircase with 101 steps leading to the top. Great stop for a good view over Nenagh, lovely park with benches for a nice spot to sit and have a coffee if the weather is good. There is beautiful gardens off to the side too. When the castle is open , it is an insightful visit that can teach you loads about the towns history. The view from the roof is great. Stairs are narrow and steep, just take them slow. The restoration work is great

Great little museum, located in the central, polygonal building of the former north tipperary prison complex. The admittance is free and the charming staff is happy to guide you through the buildings. Make sure not to miss the stories while visiting the prison cells where those who were sentenced to death spent their last days.

Stumbled upon this fantastic little museum formerly the Governor's house attached to the former prison complex in Nenagh. Free admission & would have happily paid for a visit here. Gerry, tour guide who greeted us was very welcoming & provided us a rich & compelling history of incrimination of the inmates & prison conditions along with an actual visit to the prison cells which left you with a real sense of local life experience & hardships of those times. The additional stories of certain prisoners who were wrongly convicted were also compelling. Gerry made the whole experience so worth while with his natural gift of story telling & great sense of humour. We would highly recommend a visit here.
