Khao Yai National Park, Thailand's oldest national park, is a favorite weekend getaway for Bangkok residents seeking cooler temperatures. The park is known for its diverse wildlife, including elephants, macaques, gibbons, and stunning hornbill species. Visitors can explore hiking and biking trails to discover the park's rich biodiversity and may spot rare bird species like Silver Pheasant and Eared Pitta.
A beautiful national park and my 37th in Thailand! lots of nature, I love being able to drive round at my own pace got absolutely soaked mind you but I got to see elephants in the wild so I'm happy.
Dream — Google review
Beautiful park - pristine and well worth visiting. Be mindful that as a foreigner, you will need to pay the tourist price for entry (400 bhat). Not a big deal but worth noting. Also be mindful that there are a lot of unmarked speed bumps so keep an eye out for these. Highly recommended
Attila T — Google review
The National park is very beautiful. A wide open large space with a road running all the way through it. On our visit we didn’t get to see elephants but we saw large healthy dear and monkeys carrying babies. There are amazing view points and also camping points. You can also drive right through the park to an amazing waterfall. A very worthwhile visit. 40 Bhat for local people and 300 Bhat for foreigners. Still money worth spending.
Wandering S — Google review
Huge national park with many interesting animals. I'd recommend to book a safari with a guide, because otherwise you might drive/walk straight past the most interesting things without even noticing. Also you are not allowed to walk into the jungle on your own, which makes sense because although beautiful it can also be dangerous. Also make sure you bring insect spray and leech protection socks. And don't forget to respect nature.
Viki S — Google review
Beautiful place with lots of wildlife. Although it was a very short wildlife photography trip for me, I got some wonderful photographs of wild elephant herd, sambar deers, barking deers, and pig-tailed macaques. Definitely coming back for a longer visit next time.
Om Y — Google review
It's really worth a visit. Just watch out for wildlife if you were to drive after dawn. There are so many interesting spots, day and night, to enjoy the nature. If you are not really into camping, stay on the lower areas of the park. There are many fancy hotels and houses to choose from. More importantly, it's much easier to eat with varieties of foods. Just be aware that prices may be similar to Bangkok, or some places are even priceier.
Preeyakorn P — Google review
We visit the khao yai national Park yesterday I search on khao yai national Park website the entry fees for foreigners is 200 baht even on the Internet it says 200 baht but they charge us 400 baht per person we are the group of many people so it become double the price that what we expected this is very disappointed Dual pricing scam for expats 40thb for Thai 400thb for foreigners even if you have a work permit ranger staff at the entrance told us to leave if we aren't happy paying 10 times more than locals. This is the worst experience and worst attitude we faced and we didn't see much wildlife in day time At night safari we see some but it's not worth it to pay 10× extra for that

Sights & Landmarks
Ganesha Park is a serene and tranquil religious site where devotees come to seek blessings and good fortune from Lord Ganesha, who is revered as the deity of prosperity, success, and wisdom. The park boasts of beautiful sculptures that depict stories from Hindu mythology and serve as an ode to the rich cultural heritage of the region. With no entry fee, this peaceful temple park is worth visiting while in Nakhon Nayok.
It’s very good temple to visit in Nakorn Natok. It’s good energy and vibe. People there is friendly. Highly recommended!
Ploypailin P — Google review
It is nice to see a different type of temple in Thailand. Seeing this Hindu temple is a totally different atmosphere than the Buddhist temples. It is beautiful, but to be honest we did not spend long time here and would not visit again. Nice to see though if you are in the neighborhood.
Stephen — Google review
Very few people around, and the parking area is spacious. The place is quite old, and apart from the two Ganesha statues, there’s really not much else to see.
Noktoy V — Google review
Here you’ll see two of Thailand’s largest Ganesha statues. Both very large. The statue was a little worse for wear (need of a clean/repaint) upon my visit however nevertheless impressive! Plenty of parking space and wonderful atmosphere.
Alister S — Google review
Went in and was immediately ushered to buy trinkets for 100baht and give money to the donation box before even getting to look around. Was not a peaceful experience at all. The temple had two large statues only and a set of small ones.
Tanyaporn ( — Google review
Double farang pricing at a temple doesn't seem fair and reasonable esp after living, working, paying Thai imcome taxes and social security in Thailand for 30 years.
Graeme E — Google review
Felt blessed going there.. one of the most auspicious place to pray Lord Ganesha in bangkok. If you Believe in Hindu God, Lord Shiva and Lord Ganeshji than this place is not to be missed.
Shivam J — Google review
I highly recommend visiting this place while en route to Khao Yai National Park in Nakhon Nayok. Ample parking space is available, and you'll find all the basis facilities here. Lord Ganesha, also known as Phra Pikanet, is present to bless you on your journey.

Khun Dan Prakarn Chon Dam

Mentioned on

Nature & Parks
Dams
Khun Dan Prakarn Chon Dam is a remarkable destination that showcases the beauty of nature and engineering. As Thailand's largest dam and one of the biggest concrete structures globally, it offers visitors an opportunity to stroll across its expansive length while soaking in breathtaking views of the surrounding hills and vibrant blue waters. This impressive site, part of a royal initiative aimed at supporting local farmers, is perfect for families looking to enjoy quality time together.
It's probably the number one tourist attraction in Nakhon nayok. Really busy at the top of the dam, which offers activities and great views. Buggy rides are available across the dam and boat rides on the water. Lots of food and drink vendors on site. Parking is difficult depending on the staff point where to go. There is also the area below where there are often festivals and you have views looking up. Not so attractive down below compared with above.
Grahame L — Google review
Place near Bangkok just less than 2 hrs drive for long tail boat riding into the Dam. About 2-2.5hrs trip without toilet and drinking water is not included Price: Shared 200 baht/person but need to wait for 10 people to join the ride. Private cost about 1500-4000baht depending on the period of the visit. Suggest to confirm the private boat ride price before starting Time to visit: Early morning at 6am or evening before 4pm to avoid the strong sunlight during the day and to enjoy the dawn&dusk moment 3Q : long walk through the greenery yard 4Q: Short walk but have to climb up the rocky way to see the waterfall
Tanyarat R — Google review
You can enjoy beautiful views of water and mountains, in case of rainy season you will see foggy clouds near by too. Its a big dam and they have free entry to this location but car parking might take time , it took me an hour to reach the point because of slow traffic on mountain
Shahrukh A — Google review
Breathtaking views and peaceful atmosphere 🌿 A beautiful and relaxing place surrounded by lush green mountains and calm water. The dam itself is massive, walking along it feels refreshing, especially after a bit of rain when the air is cool and misty. You can enjoy great panoramic views from both sides, one overlooking the reservoir, and the other facing the deep valley below. It’s also a nice spot for photos or just a peaceful walk with friends or family. There are small shops and local snacks near the entrance, and everything is clean and well maintained. Best to come early morning or late afternoon for the soft light and cooler weather. A perfect short trip from Bangkok if you love nature and quiet places! 🌄
Hayan . — Google review
Good view, even there’s crowded but i didn’t feel annoyed. Should take a short boat trip to go inside the dam
Naniya P — Google review
It just takes two hour drive from Bangkok .You can have an experience of nature, fresh air, hiking experience, and fun. I just have an experience of taking boat and I saw some other people are taking buggy around the dam as well.
Soe M — Google review
After exploring this dam, my perspective shifted as I discovered its unexpected beauty and tranquility. Witnessing the controlled release of water allows you to grasp both the force of nature and the ingenuity of humanity, offering a moment for thoughtful reflection. Venturing inside, I was pleasantly surprised to find a picturesque walkway reminiscent of European settings, surrounded by an expansive body of water that occasionally resembled an endless ocean. Though we missed the opportunity to take the tour boat and explore the wilder side, it serves as a compelling reason to return for another visit. ☺️ Update: Went back again on 2 February 2024 and took the boat cruise inside the dam, totally worthy 👍 search for "boat cruise to see the dam" (on the right side of this location)
Paul M — Google review
What a magnificent area in the Khao Yai district. This is a really impressive dam and is incredibly big. You can have a walk around here, or even rent a golf cart to drive around in this big area. There are a few food and tea shops here, and parking is for free. Highly recommended!

GranMonte Vineyard and Winery

Food & Drink
Nestled about six miles east of PB Valley, GranMonte Vineyard and Winery is a must-visit for wine enthusiasts. This award-winning winery boasts a passion for winemaking and produces a variety of acclaimed wines from locally grown grapes such as Durif, Verdelho, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah.
GranMonte is a beautiful Thai vineyard offering an impressive selection of wines — each with its own unique story. What makes the experience truly special is their knowledgeable wine specialist who brings every bottle to life. For example, the Midnight Harvest isn’t just about the cool label — it’s named after their unique method of harvesting grapes at midnight to preserve freshness and enhance the wine's character. The pricing is another highlight. Compared to imported wines, GranMonte offers excellent value — and in the same price range, their Thai wines often deliver better flavor and balance. Bonus point: even the security guard was exceptionally polite — something that’s surprisingly rare, even in Bangkok. A visit here is not just about wine tasting, but about enjoying genuine Thai hospitality and discovering the charm of locally-crafted wines.
Groupp L — Google review
Nice setup and views. Anything else is a waste of time… even though it was low season no extra tour was offered for our group of 9 people. Also, there are just a few open wines to taste even if you‘re willing to buy large amounts. So what’s the purpose of a winery where you can taste their wines?
Jörg S — Google review
A Countryside Escape into the Heart of Winemaking!! I had always wondered what real wine tasting would feel like and recently, I finally got the chance to experience it at GranMonte Vineyards in Khao Yai, thanks to a friend. The excitement started the moment we arrived; the lush green vines stretched out beautifully against the backdrop of the countryside. Our guide took us through the vineyards, explaining the art of cultivation, the aging process, and the different grape varieties. I was fascinated by the farming side of it all. It struck me how much patience, dedication, and courage it takes to grow grapes and nurture a vineyard. GranMonte truly let us savor the farming experience before introducing us to the wines, which made the tasting even more meaningful. The hospitality was exceptional warm yet refined, making the whole experience feel very special. Each sip of wine carried the essence of the land, and I left with a deeper appreciation for both farming and winemaking. If you’re someone who loves the countryside, farming, or simply wants to discover the art of winemaking, GranMonte is a must visit. Just a 2.5-hour drive from Bangkok, it’s the perfect countryside escape. Thank you, GranMonte, for such a remarkable and unforgettable experience.
VISHNU D — Google review
Did not stay there. Went there for lunch. It was a weekday afternoon. The place was very quiet. The view was very nice. My wife loved the wine. The meal was rather pricey. The food was good and service staff was very polite.
Ryan T — Google review
Had a great experience here! It took me a while to decide which vineyard to visit since there are quite a few in the area, but after doing some research, I found that this is one of the oldest and most reputable vineyards in Thailand. It’s also home to the country’s only certified winemaker, which made it stand out. The ticket is 590 THB for the tour and wine tasting, which is a bit on the pricey side—but you get to enjoy four glasses of wine with pairings at the end, which makes it worth it. The tour itself was excellent, led by a knowledgeable guide and the passionate owners whose stories made the place even more memorable. Personally, I think it’s definitely a place worth visiting at least once if you’re in Khao Yai!
Earn S — Google review
Looking for an immersive winery and vineyard tour, plus the scenic views? I think this is a destination you should visit. Thanks to Scents of Siam Travel and Tours Thailand for including this experience in our Khao Yai Itinerary. I was surprised on the sprawling property plus the staff are prepared for the tour. Lots of knowledge you would earn after. Also, we have a wine tasting activity too!!! Unforgettable!! Love every bit there.
Jan G — Google review
I didn’t stay with them but I go to visit vineyard and winery very nice service. Good place wonderful wine from Thailand if I available for sure will back again and again! 🫶🏻
Rattammanoon C — Google review
I did not stay at the hotel but went for the vineyard tour hosted by the fantastic guide Kayda who shared so much interesting history. Amazing story about the owners and their two daughters for their passion and vision to bring wine-making culture to Thailand 25 years ago. The wine tasting before AND after the tour was truly out of this world. I got to taste so many wonderful glasses of red, white and sparkling. Will definitely return again during the harvest season from Dec to Feb.

Restaurant
PB Valley Khaoyai Winery, located in the Pak Chong district of Thailand, is the largest winery in Southeast Asia. Established by Mr. Piya Bhirombhakdi, this 1000-acre vineyard benefits from high elevation and cool temperatures during the winter months, allowing for the successful cultivation of wine grapes such as Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Chenin Blanc.
A great experience lasting 70 minutes with 3 stations: grapes picking, brewery tour and wine tasting. Grapes were crunchy and sweet. Wines include the rose red, blanc white and red. Highly recommended.
Peter S — Google review
Absolutely incredible experience at PB Valley! I ordered the braised beef and a calamari side, and both dishes were out of this world. The beef was melt-in-your-mouth tender, rich in flavour, and perfectly balanced. The calamari was fresh, crispy, and a great complement to the meal. The restaurant is set right in a beautiful vineyard, which adds to the charm. Our group, though we didn’t drink, bought a bunch of grape juices — and they were excellent. Everyone was happy with the food, and I also tried my friend’s roasted chicken, which was delicious. The atmosphere was warm, and the service attentive and friendly. I can’t recommend this place enough — if you’re in Khao Yai, make sure PB Valley is on your list!
Samir O — Google review
Very charming winery with a lovely view restaurant. Moderate prices for great food and yummy wine. Nice gift shop and can buy wine and spirits there. Locally made products. The staff is friendly and attentive. Had no time for wine tour but will be back. Easy parking. Lovely mountains with water views of vineyard.
Denisa R — Google review
The vineyard is a gem in the Khaoyai National Park. Beautifully landscaped with several out buildings including an excellent restaurant. We also did the wine tasting. I would definitely recommend it.

Truly a new experience. Joined their 350 baht wine tour at 09.15 am time. Got to see their vineyard, grape picking, and the production line. You can also got 3 glass of wine tasting. Very worth it !
Vanessa J — Google review
Visited PB Valley Winery in Khao Yai last Saturday. The place has a great ambiance surrounded by beautiful greenery. As it’s off-season, there weren’t many grapes on the vines, but our guide explained everything perfectly about the vineyard and wine-making process. If you enjoy nature and a calm, peaceful environment, it’s definitely worth a visit.

Dairy supplier
Farm Chokchai, located in Khao Yai, is the largest dairy farm in Asia and offers a fully integrated experience on its expansive grounds. Visitors can engage in various activities such as milking cows, making ice cream from fresh milk, watching cowboy shows, and enjoying talented dog performances. The farm also offers guided tours for a deeper exploration of its operations.
I absolutely love this farm! It’s so well-kept with a warm, welcoming staff, beautiful plants, and adorable animals. It’s such great value for money, and you can easily spend 3 hours just wandering around and relaxing. Chill under the big shady tree, swing on the swings, and let the sunshine warm your skin. Feeding the animals is a blast, and petting them is just so soothing! 🚨 among all the farms I think this will be the top recommended. It’s clean and young child friendly. +Value for money. Try their banana milk and strawberry milk.

An Absolutely Unforgettable Farm Experience – We’re Already Dreaming of Our Next Visit! WE MISS THOSE ADORABLE, FLUFFY SHEEP SO MUCH! 🐑💕 Khao Yai has many farms, but this one is SPECIAL – where else can you actually STEP INSIDE a sheep barn and have dozens of eager, woolly friends munching right from your hands?! The joy is absolutely contagious! Here’s how to MAXIMIZE THE FUN (driver tips included!): ✨ **Start at the museum** (2 floors of quirky farm history – way more interesting than it sounds!) ✨ Speed through the "12 zodiac animals" – save your snacks because the REAL excitement comes later! ✨ SHEEP FEEDING TIME!** 🎉 Your driver can take you straight to the sheep & flower farm – prepare for sheer delight as soft noses nuzzle your palms! (Pro tip: Hold the food high unless you want an overeager sheep attempting a cuddle!) ✨ Bunny paradise awaits! The rabbit feeding area is MAGICAL – they’ll hop right up to you, twitching noses and all! ✨ Don’t miss cow milking – it’s hilariously hands-on and perfect for photos! This isn’t just for kids – we adults were squealing with joy the entire time!** Between the flower fields, giggling at greedy goats, and being mobbed by sweet sheep, this farm delivers PURE HAPPINESS. 10/10 would feed sheep again – see you soon, fluffy friends! 🌈🐇🐄 🐑
Charles L — Google review
Tickets are 120฿ per person — drive your own car in and explore 4 main spots between 1:30–3:30 PM. • Stop 1 is mainly for feeding animals (not photo-friendly and requires extra fee). • Stop 2 is a stunning flower field with wide open skies and constant cool breeze — perfect for photos (but bring a hat, it’s sunny!). • Stop 3 is where you can feed adorable animals. A basket of treats (milk bottles, veggies, etc.) costs 140฿ and is more than enough. After that, cool down with their 99฿ coconut ice cream cone (topped with beans!) — super refreshing, but melts fast in the wind. • There are also 4 daily buffalo shows — free to watch, though it gets crowded and hard to snap a clear pic.
Nazmul K — Google review
The farm has four exploration points. First, you get to explore a big field and interact with the sheep. You can also feed them. Second, you explore a field of colorful flowers. Third, you can milk cows, interact with rabbits, sheep, and geese, and play fun mini-games. You can also rent a bike to go around. Fourth, it is a museum where you can learn about cowboy culture and the Thai forest. Their ice cream is delicious. It has a soft gelato-like consistency and not-too-sweet flavors.

First time to Pak Chong and Farm Chok Chai was a highlight and my family loved it very much!! Huge Sunflower farm and feeding animals were nice and really made us come close to nature! Special indeed.

One of the historic farm in Thailand. We have visited this place during our journey back to Bangkok. With just 120 Baht per person we drove thru the farm by our car. We also ordered a "recommended" hamburger menu that in my idea was a bit overpriced (410 Baht) taken into account the quality and quantity compared to what usually we get in Europe.
Amir J — Google review
Visited in December 2024 for a family trip. It is a very big farm. Paid for entrance to drive in with our driver. The drive is just a small loop. Went in the afternoon as my driver said that's the time he could bring us there. Totally wrong. I suggest you go in the early morning. No cowboy show during my visit. Just some sheep and cows. They will display 2 dairy cows for you to try milking but you need to pay. So be prepared to pay at every station. I can't even go around the farm on their tractor because they claimed my ticket was not included. I wasn't even sure what was included in my ticket as I can't speak or understand Thai. I just paid what I was told and went for it. I spent only 30 minutes there and I left. A total waste of time. It only looks fantastic on advertisements but the real thing doesn't match up at all. There are better ones.

I’ve been coming to this place for many years. Chokchai burgers are fresh & juicy, the meat is delicious, recently I’m skipping the buns. The staff in the little booth is always very friendly and helpful. I’m looking forward to my next stopover

The Thong Somboon Club is a relaxed resort with a Wild West theme that offers event space, horseback rides, a cafe, zipline and log ride. It's situated in the scenic Khao Yai region and provides an abundance of fun activities for families and friends to enjoy. The village is well-built with various options for both kids and adults to partake in.
Fun place to gather with friends or just relax quietly. The theme is western and cowboy so giddy up pardner. There are free zone (games, mini zoo) and paid activities as well (zip-line, atv, etc). Highlight was the mini zoo and fussing the baby goats.

What's Good? Great view at the cafe on top with cool air during December. Not your typical theme park, but still packed with fun. Super spacious. Recommend to bring poncho along. Go for the 599 per person package. 3 hours, just nice. What's to improve? Ice-cream and drinks exchange with free token are available in the upper region only, not at entrance. More maintenance needed.

As an adult, it was a lovely afternoon and a wonderful experience. As a foreigner, the price of an MVP pass was a bit too high for what was on offer, in my opinion. Most of the things are geared more towards a younger audience. You can easily see everything in four hours. It's definitely worth a visit.
Florian — Google review
Good fun, but expensive (like you’d expect from a theme park). We went for the rainbow road luge which was a great laugh but over in a minute… 399Baht per person for a single activity, shuttle car-train to the top section of the park and a drink.

This place was is such a beautiful view and good place to travel with family! If you have children, im sure it would be very nice since they have bicycle and swimming pool! I recommend this place is best place to travel and have memories with your family, friends and relatives! I love this place!! ❤️

I had a very bad experience. If you're a foreigner you'll have absolutely no information since everything is written only in Thai. And most of the staff are not very friendly and difficult to get information. I speak Thai but still struggle because I can't read Thai. The staff weren't so helpful. Later I understand the entry plans are all joke and couldn't even play anything without paying 200 each ride. I chose 599 and my wife picked 399 and both are almost the same. Not worthy for what you the pay...

The palace complex is rich with fascinating historical architecture, including several beautifully preserved mansions. The ability to tour some of these older residences provides a tangible connection to the past, making the visit particularly insightful. The overall atmosphere is incredibly relaxing and picturesque, inviting visitors to linger and appreciate the intricate details and lush surroundings. I highly recommend Bang Pa-In Royal Palace for its significant historical value and its peaceful ambiance. It's an ideal destination for anyone interested in Thai heritage or simply looking for a serene escape from the city.

A charming and serene palace that is well maintained and clean. Visitors need to take note to dress respectfully and modestly, covering up the knees as well as the shoulders. There are buildings and architecture of different styles and from varied cultures so it can come across as a little fragmented in a sense. There are quite a few lovely landmarks in the palace and it is definitely worth a visit and your time. We even managed to have some time near the end to explore a museum full of artifacts and relics belonging to Siam's history and culture.

The restrooms are spotless, and since it’s a public facility, there’s no entrance fee — unlike many other tourist spots. There’s even a changing room where I could switch from shorts to long pants. I visited on a rainy day, and the staff were incredibly kind and attentive. They offered umbrellas during the downpour and even brought out a chair while I waited for a taxi — such thoughtful service! I also got to see the changing of the guards. You’ll need a car to get here, but it’s definitely worth the visit. I came from Ayutthaya using Grab, and the fare was very reasonable.

I love the serene atmosphere away from the city, the combination of Thai and European designs, and the opportunity to take leisurely strolls or explore by golf cart. The lake is a bonus. We were able to witness kids inside the temple I guess there was some sort of field trip. There is a dress code but we truly understand and respect it.

Bang Pa-In Royal Palace (พระราชวังบางปะอิน, the Summer Palace) is a riverside complex once used by Thai kings, located in the Bang Pa-In District along the Chao Phraya River. Well-maintained and peaceful, it felt almost private when we visited—early afternoon on a Wednesday, our tour group seemed to be the only ones there. Whenever I hear “summer palace,” my mind first goes to Beijing’s storied 颐和园 (Yiheyuan) in Haidian District, where I learned to swim as a child. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1998, Yiheyuan is famous for its hills, vast lake, marble boat, and Long Corridor. Inevitably, I compare every summer palace I visit to Yiheyuan. No disrespect intended, but in contrast, this Thai palace feels almost like a charming miniature playhouse. The Bang Pa-In palace was originally built by King Prasat Thong (1599–1655) in 1632, later fell into neglect, and was restored in the mid-19th century by King Mongkut (1804–1868). Many of the buildings standing today were constructed between 1872 and 1889 under King Chulalongkorn (1858–1913).

Beautiful palace , well kept and maintained. Mixing between east and west culture. Many buildings , compound . Now using some of the buildings as museum. Recommend a visit once in Ayudhya

The place that reflects modernization of Siamese Society and Culture. This is the place where traditional Siamese architecture plays minor roles. The palace just finished a long-time renovation and the place resumes its charms. Great place to experience history, stroll peacefully, and admire the evolution of the country.

Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon is a restored Buddhist temple in Ayutthaya, featuring stupas and a huge reclining Buddha along with smaller seated ones in a row. The temple was built during the 14th century and is the largest and most important in Ayutthaya. It houses two large chedis built in classic Ayutthaya style, influenced by Ceylon architecture.
20 bath for ticket. Very peaceful place. Go slowly and enjoy it. Have some nuns stay here. The temple not much but the atmosphere quite nice.

A well-known temple for praying for children and fertility. Many people visit to worship, and those who’ve had their prayers answered come back to offer toys and children’s clothes in gratitude. It’s lively and full of energy — one of the most charming temples in Ayutthaya.
EISUKE I — Google review
Founded in 1357, this is an active temple with resident Buddhist monks. There is a large white reclining Buddha in the temple. Many Buddhists come to pay respects at this historic site. Visitors can climb up a flight of stairs into the main temple complex where they can pray for good fortune by dropping a coin into the wishing well. The bell shaped chedi is the main attraction in this beautiful ancient temple.

This place is very beautiful. The pagoda is very big. It is an old temple. There is a big reclining Buddha and a small reclining Buddha. It is charming, shady, and peaceful. Many people come here. There is a lot of parking. There are many restaurants outside the temple. I like this place.

Beautiful and peaceful temple with great historical value. The big reclining Buddha and the main chedi are very impressive. The place is clean, well maintained, and perfect for photos. A must-visit when in Ayutthaya!

Spectacular. The Buddhas guarding the main temple are truly impressive, as are the many others surrounding the principal tower. It’s definitely worth climbing to the top to appreciate the entire complex from above.

Wat Mahathat is a Buddhist temple in Ayutthaya, known for its colorful shrines and famous Buddha head entwined in tree roots. The temple was once at the heart of Ayutthaya city but was destroyed during the Burmese invasion. Despite the damage, it remains a historical and cultural landmark. Visitors can explore the temple grounds, marvel at its impressive architecture, and learn about Thailand's rich religious heritage.
Been waiting to see this iconic image and it didn’t fall short of our expectations. The entire area is so clean and kept so well just like all tourist spots in Thailand. The crowd was amazing and everyone stood to take their photos and moved fast. On the whole it was a fabulous experience. Must see people who love cultural experiences, the entire temple has some beautiful structures and statues.

This place is full of history and has such a relaxing atmosphere. Walking around the ruins feels like stepping back in time, with every corner showing something interesting. The Buddha head in the tree roots is very unique and even more impressive in real life than in photos. It’s a beautiful spot to take pictures, learn about the past, and just enjoy some quiet moments away from the busy city. Definitely worth a visit.
Olivia — Google review
One of the most famous temples in Ayutthaya, renowned for the most photographed Buddha head encased within the tree roots. Legend has it that a thief had intended to sell the Buddha head but was either forced to abandon it at the spot or the head was too heavy for him to carry further away, and so he had to leave it there. Over time, tree roots began to envelop the Buddha's head, and hence, this peculiar and unique landmark was formed. One can pray to the Buddha Head, but you must kneel and remove your shoes to show your respect.
Julius T — Google review
A must visit in Ayutthaya City. It costs 80 baht for foreigners and 10 baht for Thai people to enter. The main attraction is the Busddha in the tree, but there are plenty of chedi, prang and other Buddha statues about. Talk a walk around Thai history and enjoy.

Nice ruins with some monks here. 80 bht entry for tourists, most ppl come to see the head in the tree. Cannot climb main large building as you can in the ruins next door.

We visited Wat Mahathat as part of a group tour to the ancient city of Ayutthaya. It is a fantastic place that is full of history. It was the capital prior to Bangkok but was completely burned down by an invasion in 1767. This place just oozes history and it is a great day trip on a visit to Bangkok. It's about an hour or hour and a half by car or there are many daily trains from Bangkok that take one hour and are very cheap. This is also where you can see the buddha head that has been surrounded by the roots of the sacred banyan tree. You should definitely try to make the time if you're in the area. There are a number of other sites only five to ten minutes away also.
Justin R — Google review
Beautiful place to visit. The Buddha head entwined in the roots of the tree is a must-see and truly a unique sight. Take your time to walk around the grounds, the peaceful atmosphere makes it worth exploring.

The remnants of the Ayutthya Kingdom. The Ayutthya Kingdom was one of the most thriving dynasties of South east asia before it was attacked by the Burmese Konboung dynasty. Wat Mahathat is one such remnant of the Ayutthya dynasty. The entry ticket is 50 baht for non thai national and dress code mandates covered shoulder and knees. There are a few gifts shops right beside the ticket counter where one can rent a scarf or trousers. The place is spotless clean and serene. One can feel the calmness and peace in the air. The place definitely lives upto the hype and is a must visit spot in Ayutthya. The Buddha head in the tree is the top attraction here. But the crowd here is well managed and everyone gets a chance to take a pic. Do carry umbrella and water while visiting. Late afternoon is the best time yo visit

Wat Chaiwatthanaram is a stunning 17th-century royal Buddhist temple located in a picturesque riverside setting. It is part of the Ayutthaya Historical Park and is renowned as one of the most Instagram-worthy temples in Ayutthaya. The temple's perfectly preserved ruins make it a must-visit attraction, along with the impressive complex of Wat Yai Chai Mongkol.
Tragically beautiful and impressive temple ruins. It’s a rather large temple complex with many Buddha statues with most of them missing their head. Our tour guide related to us how the Burmese army sacked and destroyed the temple in 1767 during the invasion. Heads of the statues were decapitated by the Burmese soldiers in search of valuables and jewellery said to be hidden in the torsos of the Buddha statues. This former royal temple truly deserves a visit.

What a truly remarkable historical site. The temple ruins are incredibly awe-inspiring and evoke a deep sense of wonder. It feels like the perfect place to capture beautiful memories and photos. Visiting here is both uplifting and soothing to the spirit. The sunlight and the boiling hot weather in the middle of the day might be the only downside of this exễprience but they also give you an umbrella to make up for that

Overall, I do enjoy everything in Ayutthaya. But just hope there are more explanations and not just a place for taking instragammable pictures. Hopefully, the authorities can make it more educational with better quality explanations. Otherwise, history will be forgotten for such an amazing place.

Part of Ayutthaya Historical Park, this ruined, wrenchingly beautiful Buddhist temple is an unseo site, with a central 115 feet prang, four smaller prangs, and eight Chedi-shaped chapels, on a rectangular platform. Some dos and don'ts: Taboos: food drink smoking climbing scratching sitting bottle of water is allowed tho. Outfit taboos: strapless tank top wide neck crop top shorts, low waist pants miniskirt No, you don't need to take your shoes off. This Temple was built in 1630 by Siam's King, Prasat Thong (1599-1655), as a memorial to his mother's residence. It was his first Temple during his reign. The name meant Temple of long reign and glorious era. Located on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River, outside Ayutthaya island, this site a major tourist attraction. Many young women (perhaps locals?) rent the traditional outfits from many shops across the street, and use the park as a background for photos. Many of our tour mates squeezed in for a show, and they politely welcomed/tolerated us.

Wat Phra Si Sanphet is a remarkable temple in Ayutthaya, Thailand. It was constructed during the 14th century and features three restored towers, with the central and eastern ones built in classic Ayutthaya style influenced by Ceylon architecture. The site also includes a viharn that houses a 16-meter high golden Buddha image coated with 170 kilograms of gold. This temple holds great historical significance as it once housed the ashes of several former Thai Kings for centuries.
What an amazing slice of Thailand's history. For 80 Bart enjoy a wonderful walk thru this magnificent place. The grounds are kept clean and tidy. If you can, try and get in early. This place is very popular and by 10:00am there are lots of people. Getting in at opening time will give you more opportunity to get those photos done.

A beautiful place for sure!! Be aware foreigners do pay way more than natives. 10 baht for Thai and 80 baht for foreigners. Also some of the parts you WILL need to dress for temple attire so no shorts and tank top. We went on a very hot and humid mid day so bringing drinks is very important. They do have umbrellas you can take to protect yourself from the sun. For the one with the very big tower (first picture) you WILL need an umbrella as there are barely any trees. Don't mind the stray dogs walking around there either.

Great place to go; a must-see place. Take a taxi or any organized trip to this place. We took an organized trip and enjoyed it pretty much. Take an umbrella with you; the sun is burning so much!

Wat Phra Si Sanphet houses the three majestic Chedis each of which houses the remains of three Kings of Ayutthya. During the Burmese invasion 2 of 3 chedis were completely destroyed. However they were restored much later. The entry tickets are 50 bahts for foreigners and they offer umbrellas for free at the gate. This is located on the royal grounds of the Ayutthya Kingdom and the construction of the temple started as early as 1365 AD. The ground is huge and takes more than half an hour to explore. The grounds, the gardens are well kept by the staff. Visit early morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the harsh sun.
Animesh K — Google review
Reputed to be the most ancient temple in Ayutthaya, Wat Phra Si Sanphet was built in 1351, and the area served as a royal palace. Wat Phra Si Sanphet was once the most sacred temple on the site of the old Royal Palace. The temple and palace ground ruins later served as a model for Wat Phra Kaew in the present-day capital of Bangkok. It is most well known for its three majestic, towering chedis.
Julius T — Google review
One of my favourites temple. You need to come and experience yourself. But I do hope for all the things in Ayutthaya. There could be more explanation of the history sites rather than just the buildings and artifacts. Hard to appreciate with depths.
JooZoo W — Google review
Exploring Wat Phra Si Sanphet was one of the most meaningful moments during my time in Ayutthaya. Standing among the ruins of what used to be the most sacred royal temple in the ancient capital, I was humbled by its history and beauty. The three towering chedis—majestic and solemn—seemed to guard centuries of stories. What made this temple different from the others was its exclusivity. It wasn’t open to monks, only for royal use. Knowing that this was once the spiritual heart of the Ayutthaya Kingdom made the experience feel even more special. The place felt quiet, reverent—despite other visitors being around, there was a respectful hush in the air. I was particularly struck by the story of the massive 16-meter Buddha statue once housed here, which was covered in gold before being destroyed during the Burmese invasion. Even in ruins, you could still feel the sacred energy that once filled this space. The best part was just slowing down and sitting on one of the steps, watching the sun hit the chedis at just the right angle. It wasn’t just a photo opportunity—it was a moment of reflection. If you plan to visit, go early in the morning or later in the afternoon to avoid the heat and crowds. Dress modestly—it’s a sacred site after all. This visit reminded me that history isn’t just about buildings or dates. Sometimes, it’s about a quiet walk through a centuries-old temple, feeling the past gently echo around you.

Visitors can explore the Pasak Basin museum, enjoy a train ride across the reservoir, go kayaking or boating, and even camp in designated areas. The dam area features shaded spots for relaxation, souvenir shops, food stalls offering Thai cuisine, and opportunities for picnicking and kite flying.

A large Dam near Bangkok makes it easy to plan a one day trip. There is an aquarium nearby with many fresh water fishes. For sight seeing, there is a trolley line along the da ridge. 30 baht for adults and 10 for kids. There is also a train rail at the water level when the dam is full capacity, up north about 20 minutes that's the place you must visit for a picture.

A good spot for a quick stop while visiting Lopburi, but not quite enough to be a main attraction on its own.

Nice view but it's quite hot here. The main road to the dam will be restricted for private vehicles until 4 PM. During day time, if you want to go inside this place, you need to buy ticket for the tourist tram. The train will go along this dam only 2 time per day, so if you want see this moment (same like many beautiful photos on Google), you should check the time carefully.

Wat Phra Phutthabat is an intricate temple from 1624, boasting a gilded tiered roof and columns. It contains a reputed footprint of Buddha and is situated atop a hill where visitors can find a cave with the Buddha statue. Additionally, there is also a Chinese Buddha where tourists toss coins into the statue's navel for good luck. The temple's spire was under renovation during our visit but the bustling market in front offered plenty of souvenirs to purchase.
The temple complex is nice and calming. Beautiful architecture of the main hall and a few pagodas around. Definitely take the time to go up the hill for an amazing panoramic view of the city and surrounding mountains.

The most sacred and beautiful temple in Saraburi. You’ll get to witness the Buddha’s footprint, and pay your respects if you wish to do so. After you are seeing and prying at the Buddha Footprint you should go to the uphill... There is a nice view point at top of the mountain which is about 7-10 Minutes walking from Buddha Footprint.. Don't forget to take some drinking water... After you seeing things at Pagoda you may go to a local market is near the carparking area and you can buy some souvenir, try local snacks and drinks...

Wat Muang

Sights & Landmarks
Wat Muang is a Buddhist monastery and temple complex in Thailand that houses an impressive 92-meter-tall sitting Buddha statue. Despite its deteriorating state, the temple's mirror design and towering Buddha make it a must-visit destination on the way to Bangkok. Believed by locals to bring good luck for work and wealth, this massive Buddha offers a unique first-time experience for all visitors regardless of faith.
Go. See. Marvel. A super huge buddha image that catches the eye from many km around. When we went they were repainting it so we saw it as a white buddha (as our photo's show). The temple is also amazing and has on display the mummified body of the hrad monk whk created this amazing temple complex.
Rian T — Google review
1. Wat Muang is a landmark temple in Ang Thong Province, located in central Thailand, about 50 kilometers from Ayutthaya. It takes approximately one hour to drive there. The temple is relatively small and easy to navigate, with an average visit lasting around 20 minutes. 2. The temple consists of five main areas: the main hall, a Chinese-style shrine, a sculpture zone, a small garden, and the giant Buddha. The layout is linear. The entrance leads to the main hall, which features a traditional Thai exterior but a rather unusual interior—silver mirrored ceiling, golden chandeliers, silver columns, and a large lotus base, giving it a distinctly eclectic style. 3. To the left of the main hall is a small Chinese-style shrine dedicated to Guanyin (the Thousand-armed Bodhisattva) and Tang Sanzang. Although modest in size, it represents the temple’s fusion of Chinese religious elements, which is common in Thai temples. 4. Between the main hall and the giant Buddha lies the sculpture zone. This area includes statues depicting Buddhist concepts of karmic punishment—such as long-tongued demons, hell guardians, boiling pots, and fire pits—mixed with figures from both Buddhist and Taoist traditions. The overall layout lacks thematic coherence and appears more like a collage of diverse religious symbols. 5. Beyond the sculpture zone is a small garden, leading to the platform of the giant Buddha. The statue, named Phra Buddha Maha Nawamin, is 92 meters tall and 63 meters wide, making it the largest seated Buddha in Thailand. It is currently under maintenance, entirely white in appearance, and the stairway at its base is closed, so visitors cannot approach or climb it. The statue can only be viewed from a distance. 6. For photography, the best angle is from the rice field outside the temple, where the Buddha can be framed with green paddies and blue sky. It’s recommended to avoid midday due to heat; early morning or late afternoon offers better lighting. 7. The temple is free to enter and generally quiet, with few tourists. The atmosphere is calm and relaxed.

The largest seated Buddha in Thailand. Currently being painted. On all my visits, it has never been possible to walk up the steps to the Buddha, like seen on many videos. Maybe that is only open on certain religious days. In any case, it is a must visit. The hell-torture statues are unusual but I wish there were some English descriptions.

This temple is one of the main attractions in Thailand, although the province is quite unknown for most tourists. The main point here is that it's the site of the largest Buddha statue in Thailand. There's plenty of space to park and it's really worth visiting. i'd recommend bringing an umbrella as the site of the Buddha statue is in the open sun, and it's really bright and hot on most days.

Visited on 20 November 2024: Excellent temple to visit. Peaceful and windy today. Not many people. Clean environment. Lots of parking spots.
Christopher L — Google review
The temple is originally a row-dug site from the late Ayutthaya Kingdom (around 2230 B.E.). It was destroyed during the Burmese invasion (around 2310 B.E.) and remained a ruin for a long time. The official name of the Great Buddha statue is Phra Phuttha Mahanawamintra Sakayamuni Sri Wiset Chai Chan. It was erected as a tribute to King Bhumibol on the 50th anniversary of his accession to the throne. It is made of concrete and painted gold, with a height of approximately 93 meters and an estimated width (foot) of 62–63 meters. Construction took 16 years, from around 1991–2008. This makes it Thailand's largest Buddha statue, the second largest in Southeast Asia, and one of the tallest in the world. In addition to the great Buddha, there is a temple and a whole series of figures that symbolize all the suffering that humans will face in hell for the evil deeds they have committed.

Architectural Buildings
Nestled in the heart of Lopburi, King Narai's Palace is a captivating historical site that transports visitors back to the 17th century. Originally constructed in 1665 with assistance from French and Italian engineers, this stunning palace complex was designed to host foreign dignitaries. As you stroll through its beautifully restored halls, gardens, and courtyards, you'll encounter a delightful blend of Thai and European architectural styles.
Great historical place and museum. The former palace of King Narai who let Siam gate open to Europe. Close on Monday and Tuesday.

A must visit when in Lopburi. It’s 200b for foreigner adults but children can enter for free, well worth the ticket price, you get an immersion of Thai history, and the grounds very well preserved. Go into the museum when it gets too hot.
Loretta C — Google review
Wonderful. It's 150baht for foreigners to enter. Free for children. Car parking is just inside the wall or there is on street parking around the outside. My 6yo daughter really enjoyed exploring the grounds and museums with me. Staff were all very friendly. Will visit again.
Phoebe J — Google review
If you've come all the way to Lop Buri, may as well see the only other main sight (apart from the zoo) and something different to the usual complex It is in large grounds and peaceful and quiet. Large amount of artifacts and a good explanatory history who was perhaps responsible for keeping away the potential colonists of France, Holland, Britain and the USA.
Carl B — Google review
Large and beautiful palace grounds. Lovely landscapes filled with green parks, tall trees (perhaps a century old), and ancient palace buildings. Some are completely intact, others are in partial ruins. It was nice to stroll through the palace and take many panoramic photos. The entrance fee cost 150 thb for foreign and 30 thb for local visitors. Kids can enter for free. We spent about 1.5 hours here.
Kumanan S — Google review
Duel pricing in place for foreigners, but I don't have a problem with that. Surprisingly good inside, big area with plenty to explore. Enjoyed the museums and would definitely recommend if you're visiting Lopburi. Added bonus, unlike many areas of the city, I didn't see one Monkey.
Geordie A — Google review
Very well worth the 30 baht entry for Thais. Parking available at the front of the museum for free. The Museum provides a lot of interesting history from the stone age and particularly concentrated during the height of lopburi influence (11th & 17th century). Lots of important artefacts that belong in much bigger museums. The palace grounds are not covered and can get very hot but still an interesting walk through the ruins. Ticket can be bought as combo with other lopburi attractions. Be wary of monkeys around on the roads outside during the late afternoons.
Pin K — Google review
For me personally the highlight of Lopburi city center. The calm atmosphere with the remainings of the palace. And also the museum with interesting artifacts. Beautiful visit.

Phra Prang Sam Yot

Water & Amusement Parks
Phra Prang Sam Yot, also known as the Monkey Temple, is a renowned attraction in Mueang Lopburi District. This ancient Khmer-style temple, dating back to the 12th century, was initially built as a Buddhist temple and later converted to Shiva worship before being returned to Buddhism. The site is famous for its three linked towers constructed from laterite and sandstone. Visitors can explore the ruins while interacting with the playful monkeys that freely roam around the area.
We went to an ancient place where mostly monkeys lived inside an ancient castle, but some of them were still on the street or by the roadside. However, most of them are aggressive, and I once saw them fight and bleed. If you go inside, the ticket price for Thais is 10 baht, while foreigners pay 40 baht. They will give you a long wooden stick; if monkeys see you carrying it, they won't come close. Don't bring any food, or you'll get attacked, just like my husband did! He bought peanuts in a plastic bag, and a monkey sneaked behind him and grabbed the bag immediately!
Rotphannee R — Google review
Great site to visit! Not super busy during the weekday. I would say, it gets really hot in the afternoon so I would suggest going early morning or late evening. Wear walking shoes because there are several steps, but you can also get dropped off at Gate 4, to avoid the long stairway. We walked the stairs up and had our driver take us back.
Donniecia C — Google review
Visited in March 2025, the ruins themselves are quite small, not much information given about them, only takes 10 minutes to walk around and glance inside (nothing of note inside). Main attraction of course are the monkeys, pretty cool to see them around the temple ruins. In my experience not aggressive at all as some have suggested, mainly ignore you or if anything are shy, tend to run away if you're within a metre of them. They give you a stick at the entrance, hope nobody actually beats them with it...
Joseph M — Google review
Cool ancient ruins of a Buddhist temple. Popular IG spot for both visitors and locals of Lopburi. Not necessary to pay the entrance fee as you can see it from the road, unless you want to pay 5x the price as locals to have a closer experience with the monkeys.
Nick R — Google review
An ancient Khmer-style temple and one of Lopburi’s most iconic landmarks. The three connected prangs represent the Hindu Trimurti — Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva — and were later transformed into a Buddhist sanctuary. Not as many monkeys as before, since most of them have been relocated by the municipality, but you can still see some around the area. It’s now much calmer and easier to walk around without worrying about mischievous monkeys. We visited around 4:30 PM, and the temple looked stunning in the soft golden light. The weather was pleasant and not too hot — it gave the place such a cozy, peaceful feeling. The entrance fee for foreigners is 80 THB. Parking is available nearby, and the site is easy to explore. Take less than 30 mins to stroll around and take a bunch of photos. A wonderful stop to admire ancient Khmer architecture, history, and serenity — especially at sunset. 🌅
Thanaporn C — Google review
The most popular landmark of Lopburi and the most lovely animal of the province, monkeys. Went there in May 2025 and they said that most of monkeys were relocated. The monkeys are really cute but they can be a little bit snatchers. You should be extra careful and listen to the officers. Keep all your accessories in your bags. All of the small and shiny things should be put away from their sight including glasses, phones, car keys, keychains, bracelet, necklace and earings. Once you loose it, you never get it back. Please love the monkeys and be kind to them.
Ekk C — Google review
One of the famous landmark in Lopburi province. It was a special place for me to visit. The weather was awesome no crowd at all. They take care of the place in a good way. The ticket price is 80THB for foreigners. A good place to visit if you love history.

Sam Chuk Market, a traditional market over 100 years old, offers a variety of familiar street-food dishes and is known for attracting Thai TV stars and celebrities. The market features old-style eateries and small alleys where visitors can purchase items ranging from straw hats to children's toys to asparagus. Once likened to the foundation of Chinese-Thai community culture, the market was originally a wooden shop house along the Tha Chin River and served as an important trading area.
Nice traditional market, a lot of foods to eat. I tried the yum bok noodles from one of the shop, so fresh and tasty meal. Only 30km from Suphan Buri town. Take bus 487 from Suphan Buri Bus Terminal at THB40. The bus will stop at the main road near the market.
Raknita — Google review
Sam Chuk Market in Suphan Buri Province has been a beloved traditional market for over a century, known for its vibrant atmosphere and street food. My wife and I visited about ten years ago, experiencing the energy, aromas of freshly cooked dishes, and local delicacies. The market reflects the region's cultural heritage with its wooden architecture and friendly locals sharing stories. Our visit evoked nostalgia and appreciation for the traditions preserved in this lively area of Thailand, leaving lasting memories of its rich cultural tapestry.

Amazing historical market! The variety of goods and food for sale was amazing!
Jamie R — Google review
Cute little market with a mix of food and toys. Most of the area is covered, but there are some parts where you're exposed to the sun. It's not particularly big, so you can easily explore the whole market in an hour or two. Several parking lots surround the market, and motorbike trailers will take you to the entrance for 5 Baht, although it's only a short walk. There isn't a wide variety of products, but the place was bustling on the Saturday afternoon we visited. The atmosphere is great, with some charming paintings on the walls around the market, and the people at the shops we visited were lovely. Definitely worth a visit if you're passing through.
Ivo N — Google review
The Local market was showing theirs life and culture a lot there. Most of the products quite similar in each outlet, including the dessert and snacks both. You may found the shop same as the next two shop. Which a little bit offers in different prices. However it was good fun to join and watched there. The food inside the market not much for us to select, there for we found some restaurants operate there compared with the price paid with local environmental and food inside the bowl. It was totally surprising. Moreover, not much choice for us to find a food kind of sit and eat.

Classic old market over 100 years old. Not very busy on weekday. Old Cafe in the corner has been opened for more than a hundred year. Owner is friendly and informative. Lovely market to visit in Supanburee. Recommend to visit an old house which is turned into a museum.

Better than most other market I’ve been to. Fairly cool to walk around. It’s not as hot and humid as some others. Lots of covered area. They have hot food, drink, cold food, snack, dry food, fresh food, bric and brac, clothing, jewellery, shoes, hats, and more. This is an old traditional market. Great walk and view. Make sure to try some food. 😊 There is a parking area near the gate 20 Baht / car. Toilet is quite clean as well. 5 Baht to use. Money drop near the sink.
Vu N — Google review
Thais use to come here to buy some old-style cookies, cakes and sweet candies. Today the market updated a bit. Now you can find toys, lot of noodles restaurants, fish (fried and dried) fish balls (very famous shop here). Nice atmosphere, even not everywhere is "originaly vintage" still definitely one of my fav places here in Suphanburi. Ps: still one old shop selling music tapes from the '80 (Thai music only).

Bueng Chawak Chaloem Phrakiet is a popular destination for nature lovers, offering a variety of activities and attractions. As a Ramsar wetland and wildlife sanctuary, it boasts diverse flora and fauna, including lotuses and various bird species. The area features an impressive aquarium showcasing native fish species, as well as vegetable farms and a local handicraft center.
I can say that this is one of the world-class aquariums and tourist attractions in the lake. There are 2 freshwater aquariums and 1 seawater aquarium. There is a crocodile farm too. Maintenance cost must be very high. I was lucky since there is no entry fee for all Thai seniors. There is a big zoo nearby as well.

Nice fresh water fishes aquarium. Good place to drop by if you have plan visiting Supan Buri. They claimed that this is the 1st Fresh Water Tunnel Aquarium in Thailand, the widest Shark tunnel in Thailand and they have Lemon Shark which you can see only at this aquarium. Well, overall, I’m impressed
Natchnon C — Google review
Reached after 3pm, no queue, but surprisingly the aquarium is nicely built .though not as modern as singapore SEA Aquarium but it's got all the fun thing for kids, touch the starfish, shark tunnel. They do have what singapore don't, tens od croc and the feeding time for a low fees of below 200baht for local and foreigner.
Chephren C — Google review
Excellent aquarium with various types of fish from small freshwater fish to sharks that overall are in healthy conditions, which are really great that despite being considerably a pretty old aquarium, there's still something new for newcomers to explore and study or simply observe multiple fish types in difference area of the buildings. Other than that, there's also crocodiles, both freshwater and saltwater, in their enclosure that you can watch their activities via metal bridges around their pen.

Randomly saw the billboard on the highway & thought we would take a look… this place was great for the price! Everything was professional, clean & well signed and informative. There were a lot of school kids groups in attendance we went but the park was so big it didn’t feel crowded. The escalators/travelators were a lovely touch going through the many fish tunnels. Would recommend this… we were there about 90-100mina and saw everything but the croc show… we left that for the kids! But definitely recommend this place for a quick day trip if in the area.

วัดจันทาราม (ท่าซุง)

Buddhist temple
Sights & Landmarks
Wat Tha Sung, a Buddhist temple complex, is a must-visit destination in Uthaithani province. The two buildings inside the temple are adorned with shining, mirrored tiles and columns that make visitors feel as if they are in heaven. The crystal glass building gives the impression of staying in the sky at night time, with twinkling stars all around. Furthermore, the golden buildings create an impressive sight with endless Buddhas lining both sides of the walls.
I just visited Wat Tha Sung, and it was absolutely stunning. The architecture and details are breathtaking, with a peaceful and serene atmosphere that makes it a truly special place. Walking through the temple grounds felt like a spiritual experience. If you're ever nearby, I highly recommend visiting – it's a beautiful spot that really leaves an impression.

One of the most stunning temple in Uthaithani. The design of the temple is unique beautiful and stunning. If you plan to come and visit you can plan to spend about 1-2 hours here. The temple has a large area walking will take more time. However, in the temple there is a small car cost20 baht per person. You can get on the car and he will bring you around the important area. However please not that most of the place will be close during 11.45-13.00 for the monk to practice. It’s one of the temple you should visit.

An absolutely breathtaking temple. Wat Tha Sung is easily one of the most stunning and unique temples in all of Thailand. The main highlight, the "Viharn Kaeo" or Crystal Hall, is unforgettable. You step inside a 100-meter-long hall where every single surface—walls, pillars, and ceiling—is covered in a mosaic of glittering mirrors. The effect is dazzling and overwhelming, like standing inside a diamond. It’s incredibly beautiful and feels both grand and deeply peaceful. This hall also contains the body of the revered monk Luang Phor Lersi Lingdam in a glass coffin. Don't miss the "Prasat Thong Kham" (Golden Castle) either. It's an enormous, incredibly intricate building covered entirely in gold that stands in stark contrast to the white and silver Crystal Hall. The entire temple complex is huge, well-maintained, and has a very serene, spiritual atmosphere despite being a popular spot for devotees. Be sure to check the specific opening times for the Crystal Hall, as it closes for a lunch break. This place is a must-see in Uthai Thani—photos truly don't do it justice!

Wat Tha Sung dates back to the Ayutthaya period. The name “Tha Sung” comes from the fact that the area was once a port (Tha = port) for transporting logs (Sung = timber) along the Sakae Krang River. In 1968, Phra Ratchapromyan (Luang Pho Ruesi Lingdam) was appointed as abbot and began a major renovation and expansion of the temple. Many of the buildings seen today date from this period. The temple contains the remains of this abbot who was of great importance to the temple.

Very pretty interior with and beware that there’s visit time, I go in around 10:45am. After my worship at the main building, there’s a mini bus 20baht per person to bring you for a tour to another building, a tour is around 30 minutes.

A park where I could clearly see locals running around and exercising. I went once during the day and once during the night and I think evening would be the best timing as it's too hot during the day and a lot of mosquitoes when it gets dark. Nice to see the huge Chinese dragons representing the city Nakhon Sawan.

Good place for relax and chill out. There are walking, running or biking lanes about 2.8 km which is around lake. There are also publish restrooms every 800m-1 km. This place is quite quiet and not many people. You can park at dragon status or side of footpath.

Extremely beautiful green lung area in the center of Nakhon Sawan. Very big dragon statues at the south entrance alongside some beautiful buildings. Locals come here especially during late afternoon to exercise and run around the lake. It’s a big park and walking around the lake will take about 30-40 minutes. A bridge connects a small island in the middle with the rest of the park. Go see it when you find yourself in Nakhon Sawan it has my best recommendations

Amazing area for sport and physical activities just in the center of the city. A large lake, a small islet linked by two bridges, a wide park with a lot of tall trees, some bats, no stray dogs, no ubiquitous motorcycles or engines inside the park. Only happy people walking or running with disciple along the proper lanes, all anticlockwise. Bycicle are the only ones allowed to turn clockwise, but into the specific blu bike lane. A fantastic free car environment which most of the Thai towns miss. Great place. Don't miss it.

This is a beautiful and somewhat unseen destination that's definitely worth a stop if you're passing through the area. However, it might not be worth a dedicated trip from Bangkok on its own. The main highlight is the journey into a massive chamber formed by a collapsed mountain. The path takes you through a cave, and the walk isn't too long. It's a fun little adventure with some minor rock scrambling, a few stairs, and some slightly slippery ground, but it's manageable for kids and active seniors. At the entrance, you'll find a small market with food stalls, a local coffee shop, and a public restroom. It’s a great place to stop, stretch your legs, and enjoy a unique natural sight.

Wat Khiriwong offers a stunning panoramic view of the city, serving as a substitute for Nakhon Sawan Tower during its maintenance closure. Though the entrance is surrounded by menacing wild dogs and a graveyard, visitors can still drive up to this temple from below and park at the front. The large temple boasts numerous attractions and opportunities for merit-making activities while providing breathtaking views of Nakornsawarn province.
Good parking. No entrance fee. Situated adjacent to the observation tower, both are a must see. They are up a steep hill. You will need motorised transport to access them. The temple has good views and is a pleasant and quiet place.

Beautiful temple on top of the hill that you can observe the entire Nakhon Sawan (นครสวรรค์) city from the top of the temple. This temple is the main landmark of Nakhon Sawan that can be seen from almost everywhere in the city, and this is probably the main or one of the really sacred temples of the city, too, as this temple located on top of the hill from the beliefs to be closer to heaven. The temple is also decorated in golden color and contains multiple important artifacts like the some remain of Buddha and his disciples alongside multiple paintings depicting Buddhism related story. If you have a chance to visit Nakhon Sawan, this temple is a must visit for any Buddhist or those who seek to learn Thai cultures and history.

Not a lot going on, women's clothes, shoes, cosmetics and a few phone shops. Walk around the back of the stalls (along the river) and you will find good food stalls the whole length of the market
Chr I — Google review
What a lot of the reviewers don't seem to understand is that this is a Night Market for Thai folks, it is not Western Tourist oriented. The bulk of the visitors to Phitsanulok are Thais and Asian Buddhists and they are there to see the famous and wonderful Phra Buddha Chinnarat. In terms of Night Markets then, this is their shopping area, while the produce and street food is located down by a train station about 700 meters away. It is for Asian folks with the usual selection of clothing and makeup, bras, jeans and panties and Tshirts, all in sizes far to small for me, fortune tellers, beer, herbal remedies and Thai style souvenirs. You will not see a lot of Westerners, in fact, I saw one other than myself on a beautiful Thursday night. To get there, just leave the train station and walk towrds the river. For pictures of Phitsanulok, visit my Instagram, Wildalaskaken_official

Waste of time. Hardly any visitors. Only selling the usual cheap clothes and souvenirs. The food areas were very quiet, and appeared to be very expensive. It looked as if this place has had its day.

A majestic and spiritually rich temple dating back to the 14th century, Wat Yai is one of the most revered Buddhist sites in Thailand. The centerpiece is Phra Phuttha Chinnarat, a stunning golden Buddha statue considered one of the most beautiful in the country. The main hall is adorned with intricate gold-and-red patterns, crystal chandeliers, and detailed murals — a breathtaking sight that reflects both artistry and devotion. It’s not just a tourist attraction but a living temple where locals come to pray and pay respect. Whether you're seeking peace, beauty, or a deeper cultural experience, this temple delivers it all. Verdict: A sacred masterpiece of Thai spirituality — timeless, tranquil, and awe-inspiring.

Wat Si Sawai

Ancient Ruins
Wat Si Sawai is a centuries-old sacred site that was originally a Hindu temple dedicated to Vishnu, later transformed into a Buddhist temple. It features three well-preserved Khmer-style towers and ornate pagodas, showcasing the mingling of Hindu and Buddhist influences. The temple's architecture reflects the classic styles of the Angkor period, with striking laterite prangs adorned with mythical figures.
Wat Si Sawai is one of the oldest temples in Sukhothai Historical Park, instantly recognizable by its three Khmer-style prangs that reveal its origins as a Hindu shrine before being converted into a Buddhist monastery. Wat Si Sawai dates back to the late 12th century when the Khmer Empire still held sway over the region. The temple was originally dedicated to Shiva, as evidenced by the discovery of Hindu artifacts such as a Shiva linga, statues of Vishnu and Shiva, and lintels depicting Hindu creation myths.

Among several Buddhist temples in a vast and amazing Sukhothai historic park, this one is a Hindu Temple. It was built in early 13 cent, included in the entry ticket

Wat Si Sawai is one of the oldest temples in Sukhothai, the temple was founded in the late 12th or early 13th century as a Hindu shrine to Vishnu and the site of the Thiruppavai ceremony. The temple is enclosed by a double rampart and a moat. Striking are the three well-preserved laterite prangs representing the Hindu Trinity. The lower parts are of Khmer origin, while the upper part is of Thai make. Each prang contains a cella, possibly a stage for a lingam or statue, and a crypt. Around the 14th century the temple was adapted to the Buddhist faith: the vihara was added to the south of the central prang.

The only Khamer style temple in the fenced Historical Park area. Well preserved/reconstructed - including most of the sandstone perimeter wall. Some Instagrammer dodging required (but possible) :-)

Perhaps one of the oldest temples in the Sukathai historic complex demonstrates strong Khmer influence, reminiscent of structures you might see in Anghor Wat. A stunningly well preserved/restored site with a great aura of tranquility and spirituality.

Wat Mahathat

Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
Wat Mahathat is an expansive complex of ruins from an ancient temple situated in a scenic, park-like environment. The New Year's countdown that took place there was a truly awe-inspiring event, and despite being small in scale, it was undoubtedly one of the most striking events I have ever attended. This was my third visit to the site in 2021 alone, primarily because I thoroughly enjoy exploring its breathtaking surroundings.
Wat Mahathat is the biggest and most important Temple in the entire Sukhothai historic park. It used to stand adjacent to the Royal palace of the first Kingdom. Considering it dates back to 13 cent, I can say it's in a pretty good condition
Dejan B — Google review
I explored a stunning 14th-century monastery in Sukhothai, surrounded by ancient trees. The aged buildings whispered stories of the past. Intricate carvings and a majestic chedi stood as testaments to skilled craftsmanship. A peaceful atmosphere enveloped the entire place, perfect for reflection. The air was fragrant with the scent of flowers. Giant banyan trees provided shade and a sense of timeless serenity. It's a must-see for anyone visiting Sukhothai.

Excellently organised. CLEAN and markers in English. Bicycle available for 30 thaibaht. Local Food available in the Park. Clean and many toilets inside. Not very large area so is manageable on Bicycle. Very friendly people. There is a Museum that I missed because of lack of time. Outside the parks there is a Buddhist Monastery. Worth a visit.

Wat Mahathat is the largest and most important temple in Sukhothai Historical Park, once the spiritual and political heart of the Sukhothai Kingdom. Built in the 13th century under King Sri Indraditya, its name means “Temple of the Great Relic.” Located at the very center of the old walled city, right beside the royal palace, Wat Mahathat was designed according to the mandala concept, symbolizing the universe. At its core stands the iconic lotus-bud chedi, a hallmark of Sukhothai architecture, surrounded by more than 200 smaller stupas, viharns, and Buddha images in a mix of Sukhothai, Lanna, and Sri Lankan styles. The temple’s grand scale reflected its role as the religious center of the kingdom, where relics of the Buddha were enshrined and major ceremonies were held.
Ben R — Google review
The central complex at Sukhothai Historical Park, Wat Matathat is a treasure trove of seated and walking Buddhas from Sukhothai. The whole area is a mass of lotus bud chedis, stupas and mondops, sometimes including stucco decoration. The complex is marvellously photogenic whichever way you look. A must-see for fans of Thai architecture and art.

Thailand is all about Wats, showing how religion has been fundamental in the country’s history. After visiting many of the ancestral buildings, for the size, number of Buddhas and the clean part of the city, this is the one I would recommend to visit. Early morning or late afternoon are the best time, usually is not crowded and there’s plenty of space to enjoy. Particularly I did in a rental bike, that’s great since you can move around easily and includes AC, which you appreciate after each stop. This is a must, despite several others, this is part of an antique city.
D C — Google review
Of the central section, the main temple where everyone goes. For sure, it impresses and cannot be missed. Go there early morning, the park opens at 06.30 ! a chance to enjoy cool atmosphere, soft lighting and have the whole temple for yourself.
Ren’an — Google review
Wat Mahathat is the most beautiful place in the whole park IMO (along with Si Phum). Spacious area with the main building surrounded with stupas and buddha statues. It's good to see it early in the morning or after 1.00 pm (when the crowd is less intense). Must be incredible during sunsets and sunrises, but didnt make it 🙄

Sukhothai Historical Park is a must-visit destination, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site that preserves the legacy of the Sukhothai Kingdom from the 12th to 14th centuries. The park features impressive ruins including temples and palaces, with notable sites like Wat Si Chum and Wat Maha That.
What an amazing place! The Sukhothai Historical Park is absolutely stunning — peaceful, full of charm, and bathed in light from early morning. The central area with its ancient temples and serene ponds is simply breathtaking. We explored everything on foot and even had time to visit a few nearby temples, all in just one afternoon. Every corner is filled with history and soul — a place that truly touches your heart. Totally worth visiting!

Excellent site well maintained. You can hire a bicycle or have a trolly car for large number. Nice food stalls very authentic Thai food. Vibrant space with boards in English and Thai Chinese explaining the history. Some function was being prepared and lot of temporary wood stalls, decoration was being put up. Nearby Market also has a Wat excellent landscaping with water pond and place for feeding fish.

Oh my word! After the hideous colour-themed, spray-painted modern monstrosities of the temples in Chiang Rai, this place is an absolute dream. So many ruins of temples, pagodas, statues of Buddha, and other religious iconography all within a beautiful natural setting. A place of serenity, peace and calm. We hired bikes for 30 baht to visit the main site and used them for the rest of the day to cycle the bicycle trail marked on the roads leading to other temple ruins in the rural outskirts. You can use your ticket to go in and out as many times as you want. We went back for sunset. Can't understand why some people moan about 'foreigners ' having to pay more than nationals. It's less than £5 to visit an incredible place where you will easily spend more than a couple of hours. Less than a fancy coffee or a pint in London!! We only paid to get into the central zone - it's got everything you'd want to see within it.

Great place to explore. Many ancient temple ruins which can keep you occupied for hours if you want to stroll around the park, or hire a bike as many do. Or you can hire a golf cart type buggy, ask at the entrance, for 2-4 people that will drive you around the park with guided commentary or there are larger 12-14 seat buses that take you round the park. So something for everyone. We spent 4 hours there on foot and see everything in the central area. Just as we were leaving the lights were coming on so the park was looking very atmospheric. Other than the central area If you hire a bike you can see the rest of the area and follow the bicycle route, plenty more ruins to find, the shops and restaurants around its perimeter, and the streets come alive in the evening with food stalls. So you can end your day with authentic Thai food and sit on the grass next to the river and relax. Great time had 👍👍🇹🇭🇹🇭

An UNESCO heritage site about 60 kms from Phitsanulok. Very well maintained and covers a vast area. You can rent a push bike for Thb 30 and also choose from the electric vehicles if you are a bigger group. The grounds are superbly maintained. Entry per person is thb 200 per person. Washroom facilities available.

This is such an interesting place. I hate to be critical but I wish they told the story of the people though… I did not get the sense of what the city had been, who lived there, what their lives were like day to day. The museum has lovely artifacts, however it also does not tell the story. Maybe every Thai knows the story but coming from a distant land without knowledge of Thailand the story still escapes me. Perhaps an audio guide would be helpful or even signage at each point. I envision something along the lines of ( Sukhothai has been inhabited since —-, this structure was originally built in —- out of—- notice —- in approximately —— the structure was transformed into a — notice ——. In the years of —- the city was abandoned because of —— it wasn’t until the year of —- that the city was rediscovered —— today ——) what I really want to understand is how people were ruled, lived, worked and worshiped across time. The place is magnificent but I missed the story of the people who have lived there and that’s why I go. You definitely get an “Indiana Jones“ feel in parts.
Cindy — Google review
We did the full circuit by bicycle so we could see everything, and it was absolutely worth it. Besides being fun, it really helps you make the most of your time and visit every corner of the site. The ruins are well preserved, and if you arrive early in the morning, you’ll not find many people around.

We enjoyed our visit over two days. We started with a day in the central area and then another day in the Northern and Western areas. Bicycles work great to travel between the Wat, there are so many to see. The central entry was 200 bat and 10 bat for a bike, very reasonable. The Northern entry was 120 bat and there was no ticket required for the western area.
