Mehmed Paša Sokolović Bridge

Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
Built in 1577, this arch stone bridge was designed by famed Ottoman architect Mimar Sinan.
What an amazing bridge!!! So cool to see such a beautiful creation in person. It’s a lovely town & there’s a great lookout at the top of a nearby hill. Highly recommend topping to admire this piece of architecture!! Cool chair at the top of the hill as well. Worth the 3 min walk.
David P — Google review
I advise you to hire a local guide to tell you the story of the bridge and this town. There is so much to hear and learn about this town and its historical facts. You have a zip line near the bridge that goes over the Drina river, there are small boats for 30min up to 2h+ tours with local guides. As expected in this country you will enjoy food and coffee ☕
Dusan T — Google review
If you're traveling toward Adriatic coast or on the way back, this is great place to stop, to enjoy unique scenary of Drina river and Visegrad with its famous bridge, which is of so much historical importance. To take a break in restaurants nearby the bridge is a real pleasure.
Maja S — Google review
It's a nice bridge but you probably need to read Ivo Andrič's Nobel prize winning novel to be able to completely enjoy and understand its role throughout history. (I didn't.)
Vera T — Google review
Really monumental! Beautiful and firm even after 400 years. Must see if in Visegrad or vicinity.
Vladimir B — Google review
Beautiful example of Ottoman architecture. The bridge was built by Mimar Sinan who is one of the greatest architects in the world.
Elif — Google review
Very nice and interesting place to visit! Especially with lokal guide, telling the huge history of this famous place. No tickets need - free entrance!

Must visit tourist attraction! Amazing views anytime of the day. Try to get views from the top of nearby hill.

Srebrenica Memorial Center - Potocari

Sometimes it's hard for your brain to get your head around numbers so while 8000 people can seem a lot when you see 8000+ headstones for as far as the eye can see it really hits home to how many people it is. Across the road from the memorial is the main museum. Hasan who oversees it all gave an in-depth talk about what happened and what he did to survive. The museum is new and very extensive and really helps you understand what happened. It must be very difficult to have to talk about it all the time but he really brought to life how it felt to live through this. If you want to do solo this is how I did it. There is 1 bus a day that goes and returns from Sarajevo. The bus leaves Sarajevo at 7:10am from platform 11 of main bus station next to the railway station. It is 39.90 marka return, about 25 one way. The bus took around 3 and 1/2 hours to arrive. The driver was friendly and dropped me right outside the memorial in Potacari. The return bus leaves Srebrenica at 4:30pm and Bratunac at 4:40pm. Bratunac bus station is actually closer to the memorial than Srebrenica so ironically there is no actual need to visit the town of Srebrenica. You will get into Sarajevo around 8pm. I really recommend visiting here if you get a chance and learning about 1 of the worst events in post war Europe.
Robert C — Google review
One of the most important places in the history of contemporary Europe. Not far from Srebrenica and Potocari. Extensive, well-structured area covered with white obelisks, which are the tombstones of the victims of the genocide of 1995. New tombstones are constantly appearing (the remains are still identified). On the opposite side of the road there are factory halls where Dutch soldiers were stationed. Today they are a photo gallery. This place is still being created and all the more so it makes a terrifying impression.
Piotr K — Google review
Getting here is a little difficult but it's a must visit if you're in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The memorial for those who were massacred by the serbian forces in July 1995. If you are coming from Sarajevo you had several options : 1)Take the bus from Sarajevo to Srebenica and ask the driver to drop you off at the memorial (you will pass it on your way to Srebenica. The memorial is about 5km from the town). There's one bus daily from Sarajevo which leaves at 0710 with the return at 1630 but it takes 4-5 hours. 2) go with private shuttle tours, which will cost around €60 per person and there's a minimum amount of passengers required. 3) drive. I did this option and I recommend the route through sokolac. Easy route to drive, but you will need to navigate through two mountains with sharp turns. Drive defensively and you will be fine. Also its a long drive through srpska territory so all the signs are in Cyrillic.

I am speechless............ and there is no STAR that I can rate this complex. I wish there were not GENOCIDE, but it did happen. Who EVER say that it didn't happen, please go to Srebrenica and feel the pain of thousands of white tomb stones standing proudly on their motherland.
Edin H — Google review
I'm absolutely speechless after seeing this place. The emotions were and are strong even if I just think about what happened here. Everyone should visit this place to understand what hate can cause, how many lives it can take.
Adéla T — Google review
I brought a small group of university students from the United States to visit Srebrenica Genocide Memorial as part of a spring break study away course covering war, genocide, peace & reconciliation. Srebrencia Genocide Memorial is not merely a museum but a living memorial, honoring the memory of thousands while imparting invaluable lessons for generations to come. In a world where the echoes of hatred still reverberate, places like Srebrenica Genocide Memorial serve as beacons of light, reminding us of the power of remembrance, empathy, and education in combating darkness. If you have the opportunity, I implore you to visit this remarkable institution and bear witness to one of history's most profound lessons. The Memorial’s design is a testament to thoughtful curation, seamlessly guiding visitors through the harrowing events of the Srebrenica genocide. Each exhibit is painstakingly arranged to evoke raw emotion, ensuring that the atrocities committed are not just recounted but felt. From photographs capturing the despair of the people, to personal belongings serving as haunting reminders of lives lost (the shoe art instillation is haunting), every artifact serves as a poignant reminder of the human cost of hatred and intolerance. In conclusion, our experience at the Srebrenica Genocide Memorial was nothing short of exceptional. If you have the opportunity, please visit this remarkable institution.

I found it's hard to hold the tears when visied the cemetery. There's also a museum across the cemetery. We did not know about it first. When we came to the building (it's an ex factory building), it's locked, although they're dispalying the opening hours. We walked to the security office and have them opened the museum. Some photos hang on the wall. About the Srebrenice tragedy. :( Srebrenica can be reach by bus from Sarajevo. There's a bus in the morning. But to come to Potocari memorial site you must a taxi.
Keluarga P — Google review
A really sad place. You experience a few minutes of what Bosnians experience in three years of war. 1992-1995 genocide of 8000 muslims in Srebrenica and about 130000 muslims in Bosnia and Herzegovina

A magical place! When we arrived, there was fog, but after half an hour it cleared. I had a complete sense of magic and mystery of this place, it is so quiet and beautiful here. We were very pleased and took wonderful photos.

Amazing nature, beautiful lake, where you can also swim, although the water is cold....
Sale H — Google review
Amazing national park- a must visit if you’re in the area. Entrance fee 4 euro per person. Some of the lake was dried up but it was still beautiful. When we were here (August 14th, with sunny weather and about 35 degrees) the water was very warm, maybe 25 degrees and you could comfortably sit in the water without being cold. However!!!! Do not swim in the lake if you are afraid of snakes. They were swimming everywhere, both big and small ones. I don’t think they were dangerous though and mostly kept their distance. But watch where you put your feet when walking into the water.

Great national with a beautiful lake. The ticket prices to enter the national park are low. We spent some time on the lake, which was beautiful. If you love hiking they have several trails here.
Kevin S — Google review
For € 3,- per person you can drive up to the lake. It’s possible to walk around it, rent bikes, a boat or kayaks. We rented a 2 person Kayak for €5,- /hr which was enough to paddle around the full lake. If you want to camp at the lake you have to pay extra. Beautiful and quiet place to spent a few hours.
Mathijs — Google review
Great trail suited for all family - nature at is best! Tickets cost 3 EUR per adult, no cost for children (also included in the yearly national park card on Montenegro). The trail have shadow all the way, nice places to stop for a picnic, but note there are mosquitoes. We were at the end of July so the lake wasn’t at his best but still everyone entered the water at the end. We took the wood boat - note its maximum 4 people including children’s in the count, it cost 10 EUR for 1 hour including life vest and it was great. Try to do it more in the late noon so there will be parts with shadow to sail to. We jumped to the lake from the boat but it was too much swinging so we did it also at the end after we gave back the boat and it was great. Highly recommend.

Maxime D — Google review
One of my favorite spots in Montenegro. The views of the lake, the forest and the hiking paths are incredibly bueatifull. I spent one night in one of those small wooden houses with my wife and it was an pleasant and interesting experience. It can be scary during night time since it's quite wild but it is also unique and definitely something to remember and to tell others about. The only down side it's the quality of the food in the restaurant, which at that time, was quite mediocre, but everything else is awesome.

Stopić Cave

Mentioned on
1 list

Caverns & Caves
Stopić Cave is an astonishing limestone cavern that features a stunning waterfall, natural bathing spots, and two halls equipped with vibrant lighting. The cave may be small in size but it is well-kept and fascinating to explore. It's definitely worth a visit as the tickets are reasonably priced and it makes for an interesting diversion. Despite having limited feedback available online, this unique location comes highly recommended and boasts a superb setting.
Visited with the kids. There is a parking for which you have to pay a 100 din/$1 fee. A 3-5 min paved walk will get you to the entrance, where you pay entrance fee and walk in the cave as long as you want. No guide, but there is an app you can download to guide yourself. No way to go with a stroller, lots of stairs when coming to the entrance and inside. It was not too cold inside in the middle of summer, so there was no need in extra cloth, but small babies might need a cover or smth.
Alex R — Google review
Nice, there is not much water in the pools and in general like there is in some of the pictures (maybe it depends on the season? We were there in September). The stalactites there look a little dry. There is a relatively small descent to the cave, inside the cave there are metal stairs that slightly spoil the appearance. Payment at the entrance is not possible by credit card, but you can pay in euros
Shmulik S — Google review
This is one of the most beautiful caves I have visited. The path to the cave is easy and can be reached in 5 minutes. The parking lot in front of the cave is large and costs 100 dinars. In the parking lot before the beginning of the path there are 2-3 souvenir shops where you can buy various souvenirs. The entrance to the cave is 400 dinars per person. The cave has a large opening, beautifully arranged paths, stairs and lighting. There is a waterfall in the cave, deep pools of water that looks like Pamukkale. This cave is worth visiting. I first visited it 7 years ago, and since then many things have changed, new stairs have been put above the pools and to the waterfall.
Spase M — Google review
Impressive and well-lit cave with stunning natural formations and easy walkways. The illuminated pools and spacious chambers make it a unique experience. A must-visit if you’re in the Zlatibor area!
Mohd W — Google review
Перед There will be a paid parking lot before the start of the path to the cave. There are no other parking lots. The cave itself is impressive, very large. I recommend coming at the opening so you can take photos without people.
Антон Щ — Google review
Beautiful cave, unique. The entrance fee is small. The only downside is that the tour is only in serbian. Arrive at the opening if you want to take nice pictures.
Viviana-Maria A — Google review
The nearest car park has a charge of 100rsd which would be fine if there was a sign, but instead I parked a car and a woman appeared out of nowhere to get the money. My car wasn’t even standing on the parking space, there were no lines but she said ,,Everything here is our car park”… Then there is a less than 5min walk to the cave through a forest, really nice views. The cave itself is not so special as the Internet hyped me. There is not much water and the light effects don’t come into expression. We didn’t even get the tickets, only the bill.
Marko ( — Google review
One of the most beautiful, stunning, marvellous, breathtaking place I have been to. This is the natural cave with waterfall and water tubs. The Google says it closed at 4:30 but it is actually open until 6, so ppl can come until 5:45 (this is the time we reached) Do not miss this place at any chance if you’re in Serbia 🇷🇸

Uvac Special Nature Reserve

Boat rental service
Nature & Parks
Nature & Wildlife Areas
Mountain park & preserve of the griffon vulture with a serpentine river & various eco-habitats.
Our journey through Serbia concludes with an unforgettable visit to Uvac Nature Reserve, a breathtaking natural wonder tucked away in the country's southwest corner. This protected area is renowned for its winding emerald river, dramatic limestone cliffs, and diverse wildlife. The star attraction is undoubtedly the Uvac River itself. Its mesmerizing meanders carve a serpentine path through the landscape, creating a series of tight loops known as "The Uvac Meanders." From the viewpoints high above, the river's bends form a stunning natural masterpiece that's straight out of a painter's imagination. The reserve is also a crucial habitat for the rare Griffon vulture. We were lucky enough to spot several of these majestic birds soaring on thermals high above the canyon. With wingspans reaching up to 3 meters, they were an impressive sight against the backdrop of blue sky and white cliffs.
Hammad H — Google review
An incredibly beautiful place with a river meandering among mountainous landscape and griffon vultures hovering high above. It totally worth a moderately strenuous hike to the top of the hill to obverve the vistas.
Dmitry — Google review
Just so you know, and this is very important when planning your trip to this site. All the spectacular images of the winding river can be seen after a paid 4-5 hour cruise that includes a stop and a not-so-easy climb to an observation deck where you can see the winding river. From those who took the cruise, it was worth it. I understand that you can also get to the river windings by renting a paid ATV.

Pure nature. The lungs of Serbia. A beautiful national park with a large number of hiking and mountain trails. Lots of content for rest and recreation for you, your children or your friends. A large number of viewpoints with magnificent views. My children especially like this clean mountain air, they panted. Come and see for yourself. All recommendations. Let's protect nature.
Srdjan P — Google review
An amazing place. Definitely worth a visit the boat ride through the canyon is especially breathtaking. If you’re comfortable to hike then hike to the top of the Gornje Lopiže peak to see some scenic beauty.
Priyanjana K — Google review
The truly unique and magnificent destination of southwestern Serbia where more and more visitors come. Untouched nature, caves, lakes, endemic plant and species and the last refuge of almost extinct birds - griffon vulture, are just some of the things you can see during a visit to this natural reserve. I definitely could sit on the hill and watch this beauty all day long. The griffon vulture eagles are so many so I couldn’t even count. It was definitely one of the highlights of my trip to Serbia.
Bryan R — Google review
We went to the top of the mountain to enjoy the view. Google maps and Waze guided us through a terrible off-road road, where we had to pave our own road with stones and pieces of wood, because the holes and ditches were so bad that it was impossible to drive through it. When we came back, we didn't want to use this road anymore and thought, whatever happens, let's go around. However, it turned out that there is a new asphalt road under construction, which neither Waze nor Google maps showed. So if the app wants to direct you off the asphalt road to an off road path, don't go and just drive along the asphalt road, it will lead you right to the free parking lot at the top of the hill. From there, you need to walk a little along the road to the viewing platform. I recommend wearing closed shoes as there were a lot of sharp rocks in some places.

Studenica Monastery

Sights & Landmarks
Sacred & Religious Sites
Studenica Monastery, a remote and sacred site in Serbia, was established in the 12th century by Stefan Nemanja and further developed by his sons. This UNESCO-listed monastery features well-preserved churches with impressive frescoes, including the Church of Lady which houses Stefan Nemanja's tomb, and the King's Church with acclaimed frescoes. Visitors describe it as a place of silence, majesty, and contemplation that exudes history and beauty.
Beautiful, peaceful, holy. This of the beaten path monastery is worth the visit especially for those of Serbian heritage. Monastery Studenica was built in the 11th century by Grand Prince Stefan Nemanja, who later become the 1st king of Serbia and the founder of Nemanjić dynasty. The interior is adorned by beautiful frescoes amongst which is the Studenica Crusifiction. A large amount of Byzantine blue paint was used for this fresco. Byzantine blue is saturated monarch purple with blue undertones. At the time, this pigment was valued more than gold. Just a few kings were adorned with capes in this color. Artists such as Raphael, Botticelli and Titian whose patrons were rich and influential were able to use this color in their masterpieces. How was a prince of a small Balkan country able to acquire this paint is still a mystery. Stefan Nemanja, St. Simeon both brothers of St. Sava as well as their mother Anastasija are entombed in Studenica.

Located in the heart of Serbia, Monastery Studenica stands as a testament to our rich cultural and spiritual heritage. Nestled amidst serene landscapes, its ancient walls echo with centuries of history, offering a profound glimpse into Serbian Orthodox tradition. Visiting Monastery Studenica is a journey through time, where every stone tells a story of faith, resilience, and artistic brilliance. From its majestic architecture to the intricate frescoes adorning its walls, each detail reflects the dedication of our ancestors who built and adorned this spiritual sanctuary. As you walk through its halls and courtyards, a sense of honor and gratitude envelops you—a tribute to those who preserved our identity and values through turbulent times. Monastery Studenica is not merely a place of worship; it is a living testament to the enduring spirit of Serbian culture, inviting all to connect with our profound heritage. Come and experience Monastery Studenica, where the past meets the present in a celebration of faith and history.

Studenica Monastery is probably the most famous, beautiful and largest monastery in Serbia, and a UNESCO heritage site. It was built in the 12th century by the rulers Stephan Namanja and his son Stephan the First-Crowned, of Nemanjic dynasty, and later expanded by other rulers. There are 3 churches (one was closed), as well as ruins of another one, monastic residences and other buidings. Churches are adorned with amazing frescoes from different periods, the most famous and well preserved one being the Crucifixion, fron 1209, in the main church. Studenica Monastery is one of the highest achievements of Byzantine-style art anywhere, and has to be visited on any tour to Serbia.
Dmitry — Google review
This is one of the Byzantine Monasteries listed on the UNESCO World Heritage site. It is an impressive fully operational Orthodox Serbian Church containing priceless Byzantine frescoes. The architecture is impressive with a combination of materials and styles that came to be known as the “Raška School”. A gorgeous doorway leads into a narthex (church entry) on the west end that contains a large baptismal font. The walls of the narthex are lined with frescoes. The nave is located through a doorway on the east end of this room and is also beautifully done. Built by Stefan Nemanja when he abdicated as king of Serbia in 1190 it has been well maintained by the Nemanjić Dynasty since its completion.

This monastery is one of the most beautiful ones I've been to so far. It's located amongst mountains and the scenery is just amazing. I would recommend coming to the monastery on a working day rather than a weekend as I assume it'd be less crowded. When we visited, there was a lot of high schoolers due to a school trip and there was quite a bit of tourtists as well.

Wonderful place and surroundings. The Studenica Monastery is a 12th-century Serbian Orthodox monastery near Kraljevo. It is one of the largest and richest Serb Orthodox monasteries.

Beautiful, very peaceful and spiritual. An ideal place to gather your thoughts and to enjoy in silence. For its value and importance for Serbian and world heritage UNESCO included the Studenica monastery on the list of World Heritage sites. Founded in 12th century by Stefan Nemanja, the first in the famous Nemanjic dynasty m, whose burial place is within the church. Here is also a burial place of his son Stephen the First-Crowned, the first Serbian king crowned by the Catholic Church.

The oldest monastery in Serbia, built in 1200. It is located in a beautiful and large natural area. It is a bit difficult to reach (about 10 km from the main road), go here if you are passionate about this kind of thing.

Kopaonik

Mountain range
Outdoor Activities
Kopaonik, the largest mountain range in Serbia, is a stunning destination that combines natural beauty with outdoor adventure. This scenic area features a national park and an expansive ski resort equipped with around 25 chair lifts, making it a haven for winter sports enthusiasts. With its breathtaking skies and panoramic views from spots like Skypenice, Kopaonik offers something for everyone—from beginners to seasoned skiers.
Well organised and safe. You can buy a few hours of lessons for beginners, hire equipment, take a guided jet ski tour or simply have a coffee while enjoying the view!

I love this mountain, we didn't ski yet but it's beautiful to drive through and over
Tam B — Google review
I would describe the resort as very family friendly. lacks a social element and places for entertainment. There are many restaurants on the slopes where lunch/dinner for two adults is around 50-60 euros. The ski slopes are ideal for beginners, but not for advanced skiers. their longest track is black and is about 3km long. There are mainly blue and red tracks. The width of the slopes is small. You can go by car to the lift, but you pay for parking about 7 euros per day. There are buses that pick up from the hotels, the price for a round trip is 5 euros. No nightlife. If you don't ski, there is nothing else to do. Overnight stays are cheap, starting from 20 euros. The lift card costs 32 euros per day. I certainly wouldn't do it again.
Kiril G — Google review
Good ski resort overall, mostly for beginner skiers. Many slopes were closed due to bad snow, restaurants are plenty and acceptable prices, however apartments are a bit expensive, hotels are stellar with astronomical prices, ski pass price is ok, but sleeping here is costly.
Andras D — Google review
Kopaonik, Serbia, is a renowned ski resort with breathtaking skies and stunning mountain views. The Skypenice place is particularly popular, offering spectacular panoramic vistas. The area boasts numerous ski slopes catering to all levels, making it ideal for both beginners and seasoned skiers. Certified instructors are available to teach both children and adults, ensuring a safe and enjoyable learning experience. After a day on the slopes, visitors can enjoy the cozy atmosphere of local lodges and vibrant nightlife, making Kopaonik a perfect destination for winter sports and relaxation.

Beautiful mid size ski resort south Serbia. Lot of services, restaurants, cafes. The ski lifts are modern and working properly (you can even do night skiing as they have lights from 6pm to 10pm). Recommended if you enjoy skiing and you are in the region.
Cedric — Google review
It's a great mountain range with some of the best sking in Serbia. It's well organized and has all facilities a tourist requires. But and this is a big but.!!!! There is not a single hospital in the area. Closest one is more than 40k. Away and in mountains that means over an hour drive and that could be differance between life and death. Also it's extremely expensive. More than travelling to France or Italy and having a holiday there.
A D — Google review
This review is about the time here in winter. After checking out the crowds in other ski resorts and slopes i must admit that crowds here are not that big 👌🏻 But... Very untidy ... No sidewalks for pedestrians anywhere around this whole place. If you walk, you walk on the roads. There's lots of snow that's piled up, it melts and turns into ice, so it's slush and then just ice. Watch your steps! It is NOT a family friendly place as some referred to it in the comments, because there are NO outdoors facilities for children, no playgrounds, no safe and fun slides equipped for children. There's only slide slopes spontaneously appeared where children choose to slide 🤷🏻 with no steps to go back up. The infrastructure is terrible, it's not thought through at all. To be honest it looks like people who run this place do not know what they are supposed to do with all the snow that they have there, how to handle it or they don't care about their guests and their outdoor comfort. The prices are high, the quality is low. But if you love skiing or snowboarding and come here ONLY to do this, then it's ok i guess. That's why i gave 4 stars. There's nothing to do, nowhere to go if you're not on the slopes 🤷🏻 Keep that in mind, that and the fact that it's allowed to smoke everywhere you go. So if you're not a smoker, this place is not friendly for you 🤷🏻 I expected more from the place. I really hope in the years to come this whole place will emprove to meet the highest standards, because it does have the potential. It only lacks good managers.

Memorial Park October in Kragujevac, also known as Sumarice Memorial Park, is a solemn site near Kragujevac, Serbia. It commemorates the 1941 massacre of around 3,000 civilians by German occupation forces during World War II. The park features a somber museum with a permanent exhibition that includes paintings by renowned artist Petar Lubarda and personal effects of the victims.
Exceptional place of Serbian WWII history. Beautiful, peaceful forest park wit monuments. Great exebition place in museum. Highly recommend.

I did not visit the hotel, but the memorial park itself, its quite magical experience, the monuments are just wonderful and the meaning behind them os quite painful. Although as a young person I just can not imagine the disaster and blood that hides behind it all and also simply cannot imagine the beautiful park to be a bloody place 🙁

I brought mine 8 y.o child in this memorial park and museum 21. October for the first time. It was very challenging how to explain horror of the Second World War and what really happened on this place so long ago. This memorial park and the Museum are places that have to been seen. Beautiful, peaceful place in Kragujevac city with lots of history behind every monument in it. Definitely worth of visiting although it left you with sadness and bitter taste.
Ivana T — Google review
A popular place for a walk with your family, friends or pets if you're in Kragujevac. Every October 21. there is a cultural show named "Veliki školski čas" where there are plays and a choir that is there to remind us of the tragic moments that our country's kids had to go through. You can catch a couple of people exercising on any other day of the year. All in all a breathtaking place everyone should visit.

Smederevo Fortress

Well-preserved, medieval fortified city with river views, now used as a park with occasional events.
I wonted to visit Smederevo Fortress since my childhood, and I did it. Magnificent build from medieval era. Worth every effort. Structure is very robust but that how it was built. Local People should do more on marketing, more on cleaning outside the building, remove run down ruins what ever it is, just bulldozer it. I know that the republic of Serbia is a poor but hang on, the structure is of very significant value for us Serbs and Europe too. It is almost in the city centre, just walking distance of about 300m away. Lots of parking spots around fortress and it is for free.
Boris B — Google review
A great place. The keep is quite large but easily seen in about 30 mins to 1 hour. It's fun to climb onto the walls and walk through the towers. There's not much in the way of a museum anywhere so maybe do some research about the site before you get there.
Chris B — Google review
The Smederevo Fortress is a truly impressive historical site and one of the greatest symbols of Serbia’s medieval heritage. Inside, there is a beautiful, well-kept park — peaceful, green, and perfect for walking while imagining what life once looked like behind these mighty walls. The view of the Danube is spectacular, especially in the evening when the sunlight reflects off the river and creates an unforgettable atmosphere. However, the fortress walls could be better maintained, as some parts look unstable and deserve more care and restoration. Despite that, the place radiates history, strength, and beauty. It’s a must-visit for anyone who loves culture, architecture, and places that tell stories of the past.
Немања П — Google review
Smederevo Fortress is impressive. I'm not sure why but I was surprised at it's size and scale. Entry to the surrounding park is free and inside the actual fortress is a mere 250rsd. If you like history, especially Serbian history, visiting Smederevo is a must.
Brenda B — Google review
Very nice views. Paid 250 RSD entry ticket. They don't have good information about how to pay parking if you can't pay via SMS (if u don't have a Serbian phone subscription u can't pay via SMS). Also the guy selling the tickets wasn't much help cause he didn't speak English..

The Smederevo Fortress is one of the largest medieval fortresses in the Balkans, located in the city of Smederevo, on the banks of the Danube River. It was built between 1428 and 1430 by Despot Đurađ Branković and his wife Jerina.
Masa — Google review
It's a beautifully preserved castle where people can spend quality time, exercise, and enjoy the beautiful weather. A 250 RSD ticket is required to enter the inner section, but the outer part is, of course, free. It's a great place to enjoy with the family. And the river view is also worth to see.

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Manasija Monastery, located in the Resava river gorge about 135km southeast of Belgrade, is a walled Serbian Orthodox complex dating back to 1418. The monastery served as a fortified refuge for artists and writers fleeing the Turkish invasion and features mammoth walls with 11 towers. Despite surviving various foreign rulers and battles over its more than 600-year history, it retains some original frescoes and a mosaic floor.
The best time to visit is on a weekday and in mild weather, so you can fully experience the peaceful energy of this ancient fortress without crowds. ✅ Why is it special? – The atmosphere is incredibly welcoming—you can even bring your dog! 🐕 (A rare exception for monasteries.) – The church is home to breathtaking frescoes, and the whole place feels deeply spiritual and serene. – The monastery shop offers unique souvenirs—I highly recommend the raspberry syrup and natural cosmetics. 🍇🛍️ 🌿 What’s nearby? After visiting, you can explore more hidden gems: 📍 Resava Cave (30-minute drive) 💦 Veliki Buk Waterfall 🌲 Eco-trail (starting from Izvor Lisine restaurant) 🚗 There’s a large parking area by the river—perfect for a picnic. And if you’re lucky, you might spot a herd of sheep grazing nearby! 🐑

An amazing castle with a rich history and stunning architecture. The structure is massive, and the details are truly impressive. Unfortunately, I visited when it was closed, so I couldn’t go inside but even from the outside, it was well worth the visit. Just standing there and taking it all in was an experience on its own.

The Red Cross Concentration Camp, situated in Nis, Serbia, is a poignant historical landmark that provides insight into the grim realities of World War II. Established by Nazi Germany during the occupation of Yugoslavia, this camp functioned as a significant detention and extermination center for prisoners of war and civilians. Despite being overshadowed by more well-known camps like Auschwitz and Dachau, it played a crucial role in the war's atrocities.
Exceptionally well preserved camp. You can really feel the atmosphere. You should plan and spend some time reading through the documentaron add it's really memorable. I only stayed there for about an hour and I felt so cold, mainly due to the moisture and lack of any isolation. Can't imagine how people survived there. So scary, indeed.
Ognian V — Google review
Neglected to be honest, love the story of the place and the lessons that you get for that happened here in the past but the place is dying slowly. They should renovate and take care of it more so we can have it through the years. Only 2.5€ and you CAN PAY BY CARD! Very important because we didn't had cash on us. No guided tour, you can just look around alone
Frederiko L — Google review
Definitely worth a vist. Very poignant and disturbing. Note the faded writing over the ticket office. Plenty of information to read and many personal stories. We spent around 2 hours there and took everything in. As a result of the visit we decided to walk up to the memorial where many of the camp inmates were executed. It's about a 40 minute walk from the camp and once there about a 20 minute walk back to the centre.
Paul M — Google review
Visiting the Nazi concentration camp in Niš was a deeply moving and educational experience. The site is well preserved and respectfully curated, offering powerful insights into the events that took place there. The story of the escape on February 12th stands out as a moment of incredible courage and hope in the face of darkness. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in history and in honoring the resilience of the human spirit.

I would highly recommend a visit if you’re a history buff like me. Walking around this place of death was eerie and cold. This place is well preserved. As you walk into the building where thousands of people were caged and tortured while waiting for execution the mind and imagination haunts you. It’s certainly changed my life having visited this place.

Some things should never be forgotten. I recommend to visit. Unfortunately, place is kind of neglected and with no true respect to all fallen victims. Cars of employees parked inside, some places turned into offices, some garbage outside. This place could be much better. It's just not enough will to do something.

A great place to visit in the city. There are many old things and buildings in the fortress that you should see. At the entrance there is a public toilet that is free, and in front of it a souvenir shop. There are two small trains here for the youngest who want to enjoy a walk through the park in a different way. A large part of the fortress is under deep shadows. The whole place is with lush vegetation and lots of greenery. Here you will see the remains of an old church, a mosque, a lapidarium, visit museums and many other things. In August, one of the most famous music festivals in the region, Nisville, takes place. It is worth visiting.
Spase M — Google review
Good park, with some attractions around. Has a place for coffee, several souvenir shops, and an open stage with events (might be available online, but I'm not sure). There was no entry fee nor ticket required, but it could be only for this visit. It has a miniature locomotive which provides a sightseeing tour, not sure if it is guided. We parked at a public payed parking, but at the end of the work time for Saturday, but we found it a bit difficult for people who do not have a local Sim card. There is an app, but requires an account which we did not bother to make. Nearly there is a bazaar which has WONDERFUL produce at EXTREMELY affordable prices. Those aromas and tastes took me back to my childhood at my grandma's house - just wonderful, highly recommend!!!

Ancient Ruins
Skull Tower, also known as Cele Kula, is a haunting stone structure in Nis, Serbia. Built in 1809 by the Ottomans, it is embedded with real human skulls. This iconic and chilling monument stands as a reminder of the first Serbian uprising against Ottoman rule. During this historic event, Serbian rebels were vastly outnumbered by the Turkish army at Cegar Hill near Nis.
Visiting the Skull Tower (Ćele Kula) in Niš was an unforgettable experience. It's both chilling and deeply moving—a powerful reminder of Serbia’s turbulent past and the sacrifices made during the fight for freedom. The structure, built from the skulls of Serbian rebels, is incredibly well preserved and respectfully presented. The museum provides detailed historical context in multiple languages, and the staff were knowledgeable and kind. It’s not a long visit—maybe 30–45 minutes—but the impact lasts much longer. This is a must-see for anyone interested in Balkan history, and a truly unique site you won't find anywhere else in the world. Highly recommended if you’re in Niš or passing through southern Serbia. Just be prepared—it's emotional, but incredibly important.
Michael K — Google review
A tower constructed from 952 skulls of 19th-century Serbian rebels. The tower was built to serve as a lesson to Serbs who wanted to break away from the Ottoman Empire and was later converted into a monument. Until 1878, the tower remained open and unprotected, leaving only 58 skulls remaining today due to weather conditions and the fact that the skulls were taken away by rebel relatives for burial. In 1892, with donations from across Serbia, a church was built by Belgrade architect Dimitrije T. Leko, encompassing and enclosing the tower on all sides.
Hetz N — Google review
A unique and moving historical site in Niš. Skull Tower is a powerful reminder of the past, well preserved inside a chapel. Entrance is 300 RSD = 2.5€, and the visit takes about 20–30 minutes. Highly recommended for history lovers
Aleksandra M — Google review
Most unique monument in the world. Built by the Ottomans in 1809 as a warning to the Balkan people to not try to do battle with them. Made of the skills of proud Serbian warriors that sacrificed themselves instead of being captured.
Brett M — Google review
Tickets can be bought in the building next to it, but there was no one to check. Around 300 dinars from what I remember. Would be nice if there were more details to the story presented, but I understand why they would want to keep it as it is. All in all, weird feeling that you get there, keeps reminding us of what humans are capable of just for power.

In Serbia, near the Bulgarian border there is this little piece of the mighty Roman Empire, back from III-IV century. The status of the ruins is awesome and you can actually see and touch the incredible details of the complex and decorations. The bricks were great conditions, amazing considering how many years have passed. The museum was closed when we visited, but nevertheless the Felix Romuliana was still worth it! I really recommend it, not only because is part of the UNESCO, but because it is hard to see such sites even in Italy. Guides are available in many languages to learn more about the site.

Felix Romuliana, or Gamzigrad, is a complex of palaces and temples built by Emperor Galerius in memory of his mother Romula. The complex, currently in ruins, is a UNESCO heritage site. The surrounding wall with towers is especially well preserved. Most beutiful mosaics from the site were moved to the local museum, unfortunately closed at the time of my visit. Staff members gave a short lecture as an introduction to the site, which was quite informative. Although this place is not as impressive as similar sites in Italy or other Mediterranean countries, a visit here is highly recommended for history buffs.

Interesting place in the middle of nothing. Entrance fee is cca 4euro per person. If you love history, you might like this place.

This is a neat site to see. The tickets are cheap, so it's worth it if you're driving through. The translations on signage are hilariously inaccurate.

A fortress so simple, yet complex, filled with culture, history and a relaxing walk through time. While there's not much to interact with, the vast area of ruins scattered across the field is quite unique. Remote location but worth the effort to spend a few hours just taking your time to learn about this place.

Fantastic archeological site, with preserved ruins of what was once at the end of 2nd century AD residence of Emperor Galerius. Impressive fortifications, towers still in place and a wast complex of interior buildings create of this site a unique occasion to understand the power, architectural ingenuity and lawishness of roman empire in its decline. Original mosaics can be seen in Museum of Zaječar just 10km away while the rest are for conservation purposes covered with send, thus invisible to public. There is one part of original artefacts including several mosaics on display in the left hand gate tower. There are guided tours in English as well, and the young and dynamic team of art historians and archaeologist are there to help you around. Absolutely a place to visit and enjoy the beauty of the nature and th magnificent mountain Rtanj on the way there. It will take you approximately 45mib of slow ride from highway exit at Paraćin to reach it. An ideal stop!

Sights & Landmarks
Belogradchik Fortress is a historic site with unique conglomerate rock formations that were once used as fortresses. Constructed by the Romans between the first and third centuries CE, the fortress features openings for guns and three bastions for cannons on its walls. Visitors can climb to the highest point of the fortress, known as the first slab, to enjoy stunning views of the 230 ft. high rocks in the surrounding area.
For Bulgaria road-trip, I voted here to be the best place I have visited. This place is the combination of nature and human creativity. It gives you serene and fabulous feelings. One day, one night is a must to be here at least. I found not so many people here that is lovely when compared as any famous and popular places.

Amazing place, the favourite place of Mr.Musk. You need to see with your eyes, so can feel the real deal. If you want to fly with the balloon, you need to be on site 6:15AM, park in front of the police station and follow the lights :)

Here’s a more vivid review in English: An absolutely cosmic place — the mountains look as if they belong to another planet. The landscape is breathtaking, surreal, and unforgettable. Truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Alex L — Google review
There is a parking lot right next to the entrance pf the fortress. Paid parking 2,5 euro for the hall stay. The entrance price of the fortress - 7,5 euro 🙄 But the place was okay. If you want to go to the top - there are stairs and right at the top are a lot of big rocks - so prepare the right shoes. You can enter with the dog. The souvenirs are sold right behind the cashier- big stone building.

The Belogradchik Rocks in Bulgaria are a breathtaking natural wonder, with towering red sandstone formations carved over 230 million years in the Balkan Mountains. Reaching up to 200m, they create a dramatic, otherworldly landscape perfect for photography. The nearby Belogradchik Fortress, built into the rocks, adds historical depth. The trail has steep, uneven steps, so walk carefully. Bring water and snacks, as there are no facilities. Visit in daylight for vibrant colors or at sunset for a glowing sky—both are unforgettable! A must-see for adventurers and nature lovers!
Hristiyan V — Google review
Absolutely fantastic! We spent almost 2 hours exploring the fortress. There are many stairs, stone and man made, some quite steep... the views are incredible.
Scot L — Google review
Definitely worth a visit. This is one of the most beautiful places in Bulgaria, and maybe in the world. Tip: climb the steps to the top to enjoy the view, but keep in mind that for an elderly person it may be a challenge.
Dimcho N — Google review
Very interesting rocks formation within inserted perfectly the Roman empyre architecture for a fortress. Unfortunately is not well maintained from the staff, not too expensive 7,5€ but it's in a very remote region from Sofia. Better to spend one night in the area to visit also the Danube border region. They use it for events so the installation are unfortunately someway invasive.

Baba Vida Fortress is a medieval stronghold located in Vidin, Bulgaria, and is considered the town's main attraction. Built in the 10th century, it consists of two concentric walls and nine towers, with three towers preserved to their original height. Visitors can explore the fortress and learn about its history through guided tours and informational displays. The site offers stunning views of the Danube River and the surrounding green landscape.
I really enjoyed exploring this fort because the rooftop view was amazing direct to Danube River, but some areas were closed for repairs, so I couldn’t go in. However, it was a bit eerie in certain spots, especially when I entered the prison area and got startled by a mannequin. But I loved seeing all the historical items on display—it was truly full of history.

I never knew how well preserved this castle was. Sitting on the shore of the Danube river provides wonderful views from the towers.

Excellent medieval fortress. Good view of the Danube River. Be careful on the worn steps. 7 BGN entrance fee

Good experience walking around the fortress. Several displays and recreated rooms. Access all areas with no safety so care needed if you have small people!!
Neil J — Google review
I went at a great time. We were able to go all over the fortress. But they need to update a few things and make it to where certain tourist and / or locals don't ruin the castle by climbing all over it . Don't get me wrong, I loved going everywhere, but to preserve it for the future, they need to do something. The hand crafted art and woodwork outside on the sidewalk are well worth your time to look .

There is a fortress in Serbia, Golubac. Serbia is not part of EU, but their fortress was well organised. Most if the “rooms” in Baba Vida fortress are empty, there aren’t lights, but there are a lot of spiderwebs, maybe they want to make it authentic 😀. The view from Baba Vida fortress is breathtaking!
Сияна С — Google review
During our river cruise , we came here in a guided tour. It is located on the banks of Danube river and it's one of the most important attraction in Vidin. It has got a very long history behind it. It was opened to the public in 1958. it is the only preserved old fortress in Bulgaria. Now days it has got a museum where medieval arms and dresses are kept which are worth seeing. The only problem inside was steep staircases and cobble pathways. It was quite difficult to walk on them.

Nicolae Romanescu Park, nestled in the heart of Craiova, Romania, is a sprawling 230-acre natural oasis and the largest park in Eastern Europe. Established between 1901 and 1903, this picturesque park boasts lush greenery, scenic walking paths, and a charming lake.
I really enjoyed every single step taken in this park. Right next to one of the entrances there is a pond with a couple of ducks, swans and birds. Very nice sculptured bird house hanging on different trees. In the heart of the park there is a very nice castle and a huge bridge. The only drawback was the huge number of crows flying and pooping around
Alexandra D — Google review
What a delight! We arrived for the Easter light festival (Sunday after Resurrection Sunday). Music, lights, more lights, a light show on the lake, food, a carousel, fun for the kids. The entire park was a collage of color and artistic wonder. So many people enjoying one another and enjoying life. Great memories.
Jeffrey N — Google review
It has a charm of its own. The park is quite clean and I felt safe walking even though the more remote pathways with barely any people around. There are stores in the centre if you happen to get hungry and free to use bathrooms. I highly recommend seeing it!
Andrei F — Google review
The Romanescu Park in Craiova is huge. It has lots of interesting areas: a double story merry go round, a zoo, a spectacular bridge, an enchanted castle, a hippodrome, a velodrome, a summer theatre, restaurants, and very impressive large trees and exotic vegetation. It spans over 90 ha of land.
Septimiu-Mihai B — Google review
The park is beautiful as always. I return here every time I get a chance. Too bad it entirely relies on the weather to maintain itself and the lack of rain is impacting it. There are no attempts to help the nature by watering the grass, the trees - there are new trees on the lake side that are already dead. Other than that, the park is clean and good to enjoy the nature even in very hot and dry weather.

Cool experience So many different fun attractions There is free parking on the left side just 100 m before reaching the mine. Never entered a salt mine by bus and that's cool too. Very clean mine and there are 2 toilets.

A great piece of history, a former salt mine converted to a tourist attraction. The access to the tunnel is provided by buses. The site offers many activities. There's a restaurant and a wine cellar, a church, a skating rink, table tennis, a souvenir shop, and a playground for kids. There's a constant temperature (15 C), which makes it the best place for activities on a hot day. I would definitely recommend the experience.

Having no previous experience of salt mines I have no compassion but as experiences go I was very impressed by the level of amenities here at this hidden gem of an attraction. Plenty to see and do within... most additional activities within occur an additional cost. This is a great place for families as there's lots to see and do for kids
Matthew C — Google review
It’s truly a hidden gem! boasting numerous amenities such as a cozy cafe, a restaurant, a playground for children, tennis and baseball field, and even a winery. The addition of cartoon watching adds an extra layer of enjoyment for kids. It’s a perfect spot for families and anyone looking for a rejuvenating experience.

Curtea de Argeș Monastery

Monastery
Sights & Landmarks
The Curtea de Argeș Monastery is a 16th-century Romanian Orthodox cathedral dedicated to the Dormition of the Mother of God. It holds numerous early icons, religious artworks, and crypts. The monastery was once the first capital of Wallachia and features essential Byzantine edifices, including the Royal Church, a 14th-century UNESCO-listed monument.
A beautiful monastery and church in the center of a peaceful park. The church exterior and some of the interior is undergoing renovations but the part you can view is stunning. This is also where the Royal family of Romania is buried.

Zarko M — Google review
It's an unforgettable experience to visit this monastery, unique in its own right and steeped in a remarkable folk legend. The presence of royal tombs there also gives the place immense significance.
Nicolae N — Google review
Curtea de Arges Monastery is one of Romania’s most iconic and historically significant monasteries. The monastery was commissioned by Neagoe Basarab, Voivode of Wallachia, and built between 1512 and 1517. Neagoe wanted a church unlike any other, combining architectural elegance, Byzantine inspiration, and local craftsmanship. The monastery quickly became a center of spiritual and cultural life in Wallachia. One of the most famous stories associated with the monastery is the legend of Mesterul Manole, the master builder. According to the legend, Manole and his team could not complete the monastery’s roof, and a supernatural force kept causing it to collapse. A voice instructed him that the walls would only stand if he sacrificed his wife by immuring her in the structure. After reluctantly following this, the construction succeeded. The legend continues that after finishing the monastery, Manole tried to escape by jumping off the roof using wings he had made, but he tragically fell to his death. This story is celebrated in Romanian folklore and poetry as a symbol of sacrifice and devotion. Inside, the monastery holds the tombs of its founders, Neagoe Basarab and his wife, along with their daughter. Later, it became the burial place for Romanian royalty, including King Carol I, Queen Elisabeth, King Ferdinand, Queen Marie, and the last monarchs, King Mihai I and Queen Ana. Architecturally, the church is known for its intricate stone carvings, Byzantine-style frescoes, and a legendary church roof that inspired stories and poems. The combination of legend, history, and art makes it a unique cultural and religious monument. Unfortunately, when I visited, the monastery was closed as it is currently undergoing renovation, but it remains a must-see if you are in the area — both for its historical significance and the fascinating legends that surround it.
Stefan — Google review
Beautiful monastery that holds 4 royal graves. The paintings on walls are divine. I was lucky enough to attend the Sunday service. Area has ample of parking as well as toilet on site charging 1 lei which is fair charge. Toilets are very clean and tidy.
Gersina C — Google review
The exterior was under renovation when I visited, but it is still absolutely stunning! Peaceful and beautiful inside, it houses the beautiful grave ledger stones of King Carol I and Elisabeth as well as an exquisite book of writings of Elisabeth.
Tammy H — Google review
The church is currently undergoing complete renovation, so a visit is not really recommended at the moment, but there is a beautiful park around it and also outbuildings that are nice to look at.
Olivier R — Google review
Is a nice monastery to visit considering it is a 500+ years old building. The legend of Manole and Ana also makes it different to other churches and worship places, not to forget that 2 of the 4 Romanian kings are buried there. A 30-60minutes stop for a piece of Romanian history and culture sure make it worth. And a prayer to God Almighty would sure make it more meaningful.

Chindia Tower

Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
Visitors to this restored 15th-century military fort can climb the tower's 122 steps for city views.
The complex is truly amazing! There is some more work to do, but the quiet vibes, the view from the tower on the top, the paintings inside the church, the walk on the bridge along the architecture, and the small museum are an awe! People who like history and Gothic things should totally give this place a try. It takes 20 lei for the entrance fee (adult), and you get to climb up to the tower to appreciate the work during Dracula's reign. 😀

If you have not been, you need not be told. GO. This place has hundreds of years of history. There is a lot to see and a lot to learn. The top of the tower view is priceless. The caves are amazing, and very cold. The ruins are super interesting. Visit on of Dracula's homes. How many can say they've seen it? The entrance see if 15RON, not too expensive for how much history this place holds. Take the kids too.

We passed by Târgoviște and the Tower on the way back home from Bucharest on Monday. It was supposed to be closed, but parking was readily available and free on the street, so we gave it a shot and surprisingly it was open. Tickets were 15RON per person, and we spent about an hour there. The tower was in great condition, and there was a little museum with written works from 100s of years ago that showcased the evolution of the Romanian language. Bathrooms were super clean too. Nice quiet historical place. Cheap tickets, easy parking. Great place to visit during a road trip break.
Diana T — Google review
By far the most interesting object for visitors inside the Royal complex. The name of the tower in translation means "Sunset tower". This imposing structure was built during the time of Vlad Dracul, the father of the famous Vlad Tepes, also known as Dracula(thanks to the famous Bram Soker novel). The function of the tower evolved from that of a bell tower in the beginning of 15th century, to that of a watchtower, refuge and defence tower during the 15th-16th centuries and the to that of a clock tower in the 17th century.
Явор К — Google review
The tower itself looks really good as it has been renovated, even though it’s not that tall you can see the whole city from it’s top. The park surrounding it is really beautiful. If you have small children you can take them to the city’s zoo which is a 5 minute walk from the tower.

Nestled in the picturesque town of Sinaia, Romania, Peleș Castle is a stunning Neo-Renaissance residence that once served as the summer retreat for Romanian royalty. Built between 1875 and 1883 by King Carol I, this architectural masterpiece boasts a captivating blend of styles, featuring German Neo-Renaissance exteriors and Italian Renaissance interiors adorned with Baroque, Rococo, Turkish, and Hispanic-Moorish elements.
Peles Castle is one of the most beautiful castles in Romania Located in the picturesque mountain resort of Sinaia, it is also known as the Pearl of the Carpathians. It is the former summer residence of the Romanian royal family and a German Renaissance-style palace, built between 1873 and 1914 by Carol I, the first King of Romania. This palace is considered one of the most beautiful of its kind in all of Europe. A ticket to the castle costs €20. The castle is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. For me, the sight of the castle in the morning with my morning coffee is a magical moment. Peace, quiet, a beautiful palace in the middle of a forest.

Peleș Castle is, without exaggeration, one of the most beautiful and fascinating castles in all of Europe. Nestled in the mountains of Sinaia, it looks like something straight out of a fairy tale — surrounded by dense forests, rolling hills, and crisp mountain air that gives the whole place an almost cinematic atmosphere. Built in the late 19th century by King Carol I of Romania, Peleș Castle combines Neo-Renaissance, Gothic and Baroque elements in a way that feels both majestic and surprisingly warm. Every angle offers something new: carved wooden facades, colorful murals, and intricate towers that make you stop and stare. The attention to detail is truly breathtaking — both outside and inside. The interior is nothing short of spectacular. Each room has its own theme and personality — from the elegant woodwork and stained glass of the Hall of Honor, to the exotic Turkish Room and the Venetian-inspired Music Hall. Everywhere you look, there’s craftsmanship, history, and art blended together perfectly. You can really feel the royal atmosphere that once filled these halls. The guided tours are well-organized and informative, though at busy times you might have to wait a bit for entry — especially during weekends or summer months. Still, it’s absolutely worth it. The guides provide interesting historical context and small anecdotes that bring the castle’s story to life. Around the castle, the grounds are equally impressive — manicured gardens, fountains, and views of the Carpathian Mountains that make for perfect photos. There are small cafes and souvenir shops nearby, and the walk from Sinaia’s main road up to the castle is pleasant and scenic. Overall, Peleș Castle is not just a tourist attraction — it’s a piece of living history and one of Romania’s greatest cultural treasures. Whether you love architecture, history, or just beautiful places, this is a destination that will stay with you long after you leave.

A fantastic castle, which is almost as beautiful inside as it is outside. This was one our first stops outside of Bucharest and it instantly made you realise just how lucky you are to be in this part of the world. It's worth mentioning the vending machine just by the bathrooms sells a coffee for roughly £1 amongst other snacks if you're in need, although there is also a nearby cafe which everyone recommends, but unfortunately we didn't get time to visit. There's also a bit of a walk up to the castle but it's not half as bad as the one headed up to Bran Castle.

We walked from railway station to Peles castle via the town & monastery was quite a long uphill walk but very much worth it to see all the old architectural houses & buildings. Also some nice shops to browse for gifts in the town we also ate in Irish restaurant (not really Irish at all) which does amazing local food & pizza (eat local food amazing) The palace of Carol 1st is amazing & the grounds are beautiful we went on October so all the leaves were turning on the trees 😍 We didn't buy tickets to enter as the castle was closed for cleaning so can't comment on internal artifacts. It's a fabulous castle/palace 100% recommend

This is an amazingly beautiful castle, both outside and inside! You should definitely visit it at least once! You can take wonderful photos there, the views are unreal. It's important to pay attention to the opening hours, as the castle's exterior is also closed after closing time. By the way, we were also lucky enough to see two foxes wandering around the street, looking for a dropped piece of food in the cafe. 😂 It's right near the castle, on the way there.

Very beautiful castle. The interiors are pretty amazing. Downside: they deserve 1 star for their organisational skills. You need to buy an individual ticket for a specific time (fair, crowd management), however their tours start exactly at the same time as the individual visit schedules. Which means everyone gets to experience being stuck in the same hall at the same time.

Sinaia Monastery, also known as The Carpathians Cathedral, is a revered complex with origins dating back to the 15th century. It is a significant landmark in Sinaia, a popular tourist destination known for its stunning royal residences and iconic monuments. The monastery, the first construction in Sinaia, reflects the town's historical identity and houses valuable religious artifacts and an impressive collection of icons.
A must-visit in Sinaia! Amazing architecture reflected in the two churches within the compound. In my opinion, the smaller and way older church in the backyard area of the Monastery’s compound is the highlight. The paintings on the walls and roof are well preserved given the age of the building. Visited on a weekday afternoon so there was practically no one else. The compound makes for a great contemplative spot so please respect the fact that it is a monastery.

Close to Peles castle we visited this site which consisted of the old and the great church. Beautiful Frescoes in the old church in contrast to the more grander feel of the great church. The gardens are very well kept, there was a lovely dahlia display on our visit. Would recommend

Great place to stop by on your way or from the palace. The monastery has some beautiful grounds. Best to wander around and see everything, you will see some very picturesque places.

Cute place to stop and take a rest and see something interesting. Interesting and preserved architecture. You have a relaxing path for walk and a few souvenir shops.

An interesting and fascinating insight into the history of religious architecture in Romania, with two churches, an older and a newer one, existing side by side and offering a proverbial glimpse into how Romanian culture changed and influenced its buildings as well. One particularly intriguing aspect that you may notice is that the smaller, older church utilizes the Cyrillic alphabet, whereas the newer, larger one incorporates the Latin alphabet, directly mirroring how the Romanian national identity evolved and sequestered itself from the neighbouring Slavic influence.

Such a beautiful monastery in Romania. BE SURE TO DRESS MODESTLY (aka no tank tops or shorts). They won't really say anything, but it's respectful. Also it is an active monastery so be aware of those attending. BEAUTIFUL to see though.

A superb place during autumn, with so many beautiful flowers. One of the most important tourist attractions in Sinaia, with a long history.

Sadly the monastery was not really visible because it was scaffolded, but I'm quite sure it's quite beautiful normally.

Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu Memorial Museum

Museum
Castle
Faux castle built in the 1890s by Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu for his deceased daughter, now a museum.
Very interesting people administrating the museum, culture lovers. The painting expo was very nice and enlightening.there is a mystical aspect felt across the building and the statue of Jesus is impressive. The park was nice too, couple of very interesting sculptures.

Amazing place to visit and have a dive into the occult. Keep in mind that this little castle was built upon Iulia Hasdeu's requests and specifications from the other side via "ouija" like sessions.

The castle is gorgeous on the outside like a miniature castle but very pretty and the grounds are quite nice with beautiful blooming roses and a vibrant green park, perfect for a nice walk. Inside the castle is unexpected but interesting. The family was very into spirits, apparitions and mysticism and there are signs of this all around, even in some of the paintings. The coolest thing was the old school camera with "photos" of apparitions which I'll leave each person to decide for themselves but it was still interesting. The museum provides an audio tour in multiple languages so that you understand what you're seeing, I just wish each item contained a description. I would have loved to go upstairs but that's not allowed. Overall it was an interesting way to spend a couple of hours.

It was at least disappointing to see this museum. Small, but clean with a lot of things closed. A small garden, a strange and unsanitized way to listen audio. 10 minutes of your life to see a place dedicated to a person that never lived there.

It is a fascinating place to visit, pretty creepy, but interesting for its history. A "haunted" place, with lots of mystical symbols, messages from "the other world" and few other surprises. Don't miss this place if you are nearby, I already saw it 4 times!

The building is in a good state and it also provide a backyard where you can find a lot of unique statues and carved wood benches. You have to pay a fee only if you want to go inside the building, visiting the backyard and the outside of the building is free.

One of the few places I recommend to visit. It's very interesting from all points of view. That architecture is out of common, especially the central part. Like walking in another world. A world of spirits, mysteries. Some say the place is even haunted. Thursday's entry is free, the fee is charged only if you want to take pictures. Each visitor receives a device that can listen to the whole story of the castle.

Interesting "mini-castle" that's really more of a house/memorial to an aristocrat's deceased daughter. It was built in the 1890's after the daughter, a prodigy who studied at the Sorbonne, died of tuberculosis. There is a small entry fee, plus an additional fee if you want to take pictures. Additionally, at the front of the house is a small gift shop, and around back there are more displays in the cellar. There is an audio tour available in English. It's worth seeing if you're in the area, but probably not worth a long detour.
