Volosko

Neighborhoods
Volosko is a charming Mediterranean neighborhood with a relaxed vibe, offering waterfront cafes and restaurants. It is part of the city of Opatija and can be reached by taking the Lungomare seafront promenade from Opatija. The village features picturesque beaches and small bathing spots along the coastal promenade, including the well-kept Slatina beach in the center.
One of the nicest fishing villages in Croatia. Take the steps and enjoy the small side streets.
Przemek V — Google review
A charming and picturesque little fishing port close by Opitija and easily reachable by public bus from either Rijeka or Lovran. I took the early morning bus from Lovran and then walked back via the Lungomare path that hugs the coastline, The route offers a myriad of lovely seascape views across the Adriatic. It took me a morning of unhurried walking and photograohy to explore Volosko's back streets and small harbour front, with a stop for a double expresso at a harbourside cafe. Very relaxing if you want to escape the crowds in Opitija - but get there early before the noisy tourists arrive!

Julia M — Google review
Honestly my favorite village on the Croatian coast. It is a tiny, tucked in, fishermans dream. It is a place you would want to rent an apartment for 3 months and write a book. Also the restaurant selection in such a tiny place is insane. Some of the best restaurants in the region are not more than 5 minutes away. on foot. Truely a hidden gem.

Small, picturesque coastal town/ fishing village is a part of the city of Opatija. Take Lungomare seafront promenade from Opatija and enjoy this unique experience. Take a cup of coffee on the waterfront and just relax.

Grad Snežnik

Castle
Museums
National museum with a broad collection of paintings & artifacts, including a 60,000-year-old flute.
Very beautiful and well-preserved castle. The surroundings of the castle with the stream and park around it are beautiful. Guided tours are available, our guide was very friendly. The interior of the castle is rich, with many original furniture and items preserved. Beautiful rooms, bedrooms and hallways. There is a wedding hall and a small souvenir shop available. I recommend the visit.
Diana M — Google review
This is such a nice little castle. Beautiful on the outside and very well taken care of on the inside. I had somewhat of a private tour since I was the only one and the girl great. Her English was great and she knew so much about the castle. Any question I had about the castle or one of the items…all answered in a split second. It was a great tour! Thank you so much (took the tour on monday 10th of July 2023 at 13.00…don’t remember her name anymore, but if you read this: you were great!)
Lia D — Google review
Romantic castle Snežnik. There are few castles that are equipped with original furniture from the 19th century. The atmosphere that dominates the castle will easily take you back to that time, when its owners used it as a summer residence. Snežnik Castle can only be visited with a guide. The tours start at every penalty hour during working hours and last a little less than an hour. ticket is €8 for adults
Damir — Google review
Since my last visit some years ago little has changed, ok there is now a cafe, but don't ask them for a nice ice-coffee because they don't have a clue how to make one. My biggest disappointment is that there is hardly any signs there where is what. Most disturbing is the lack of signs for the parking place. Someone even drove the car straight in front of the entrance of the castle, robbing every visitor of making a nice picture of the majestic castle entrance. I don't know who could be so inconsiderate to place his dirty old car just in front of it while there were signs not to drive in that alley and there were enough places between the trees further down where there should be signage for parking space. Because of its distant location from other places, to get there and see a pearl of history so neglected for so many years it hurts and makes you think that nobody in the near vicinity cares about their cultural and historical background.
Lodewijk H — Google review
Cool castle hidden in the woods. Great hidden gem.
Bill M — Google review
Snežnik Castle is a truly charming location, home to one of the most beautiful castles in Slovenia. Surrounded by peaceful nature, it also offers a lovely 20-minute walking trail that makes the whole experience even more magical.
Jure S — Google review
This castle is in a beautiful place, surrounded by nature. Guided tours are available and it's worth to visit the interior of the castle for its well preserved furniture. My partner and I took a guided tour in English on July 29th. The guide was very friendly and we learned a lot about the castle's history. The castle's furniture transport you back in time to the days when the castle was still in use by its owners. Highly recommended.

Cross cave

Mentioned on
1 list
Nature & Parks
Caverns & Caves
Križna jama, located in Slovenia, is a remarkable karst cave system featuring over 20 underground lakes that can be explored by boat. Unlike most Slovenian caves which are traversed on foot, Križna jama offers visitors the unique experience of a subterranean boat ride. The cave is devoid of electric lighting, with visitors provided with lamps and boots for their one to four-hour tour.
What an amazing tour. While in this part of the country, you do not want to overlook this great cave tour. Be sure to buy your tickets in advance, and contact them if you want to do one of the longer tours. The way to the cave is well marked, and there is some parking on site. Show up 15 minutes before your time so you can get your rubber boots and receive your tour brief before entering. Everyone will also be given a flashlight as there is no lighting in the caves. The group must travel together - led by your guide. It is truly a unique experience, walking through the darkness along a weĺl-marked path. Our guide was amazing and truly made the tour enjoyable for all ages in our group. I will also say that our group had a very large span of ages - as young as five. Thank you so much for the great tour.
Troy C — Google review
An amazing day walking the same route as prehistoric cave bears :) For a last-minute plan to visit Križna jama, we easily managed to get on the daily 1-1.5 hour tour on a Saturday. Longer tours are available but these should be booked in advance. Our tour was in English and our guide Gašper was brilliant, funny and informative. The guides' passion for the cave is evident in how they educate visitors and protect the cave from over-tourism.
Hannah — Google review
Brilliant caves, our tour guide was excellent and gave us lots of info. The boat ride was lovely. There are longer experiences available too but the basic 90 min was perfect for us but would definitely do a longer tour next time
Emily F — Google review
A visit to Krizna Jama Bear Caves is a must! Our guide, Tanja, was excellent - so informative and truly engaging. She brought the history and unique features of this unspoilt cave system to life. Learning about the bears and seeing their bones was fascinating Exploring the natural beauty, untouched by excessive tourism, was a real highlight. I highly recommend this experience for anyone visiting the region.
Jim B — Google review
I recently visited Križna Cave and took the short 2-hour tour. It was an interesting experience, but with such a short time, you only get a brief taste of the cave’s atmosphere. It’s enough to decide whether you enjoy this kind of underground adventure — the silence, the darkness, the underground river, the boat ride, the feeling of being in another world. If you really want to experience the cave and see more of its hidden beauty, I’d recommend the longer 4-hour tour. And for true adventure seekers, there’s even a 7-hour extreme tour — not for everyone, but from what I’ve heard, it’s absolutely unforgettable.
Oksana J — Google review
Your lasted for 1 hr 15 mins and the tour guide was fantastic. She was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Cave itself was amazing, our favourite part was the boat ride which despite being pretty short was still very memorable. If we went there again, we would definitely look for the longer version of a tour to the Bear Cave.
Adam P — Google review
Insane experience. We took the path to the Bear Tunnel and we could see hundreds of bear bones. Our guide Tanja was very informative and caring. She found a bear tooth in the path but respectfully hid it later as naturally it is not permitted to take anything from the cave. If you don’t have reservation, try your luck and maybe they will find a spot for you next day as we did. Cheers
Paweł U — Google review
This is the fifth time I've been to this cave. I've already done all the tours. Yesterday I was there at 9:00 a.m. I had a guide who was really great. His name is Mathaš. I highly recommend this guide. Anyone who takes a tour with him will never forget it. A very good man. Next time, I'll only take a tour of the cave with him. Remember his name, Matjaš. The best man. 😊🤟👍👍👍

Experience the thrill of zip lining over the stunning Pazin Cave, offering dramatic views of the town of Pazin. The zipline adventure takes you through the wooded cliffs and offers a unique perspective of one of Istria's most fascinating natural phenomena. The ride consists of four ziplines, with two different routes to choose from - one shorter and the other longer and faster. You can reach speeds of around 45km/h depending on your weight.
It was amazing! From the very first contact through email to the experience itself: everything was well organised and they did it with a smile. My wife and I had a blast going down the zipline. Would recommend it to anybody. Thanks again for the awesome experience!
Nick V — Google review
Great experience for young and 'old'. Well organised and great team of people. Large parking next to it at the designated adress of this experience. You just need to drive down on the LEFT side of the building. We went at opening around 10 o'clock. By 11.30 it was getting crowded and parking almost full. When paying, you are designated to a group, which also estimates the time it will be your turn. Next, the teamleaders call your group in order to equip and secure you. Enjoy and thrust the professionals 👍
Christof W — Google review
Fun and adrenaline! Exceeded our expectations. Two ziplines over the Pazin cave, amazing view as you go over it. 5 min walk back to the starting point. Fantastic team! Friendly and welcoming staff. Short waiting times and instructions in multiple languages. Staff handles everything, ensuring a safe ride for everyone. Equipment looked brand new and braking is adjusted based on your weight for a smooth landing. Parking available behind the hotel. Recommended!
Florian X — Google review
Wow! It's amazing. You are flying 100 meters over a valley. The staff was kind the waiting is short.

It was an interesting experience. I arrived late, so I only had time to join the zip line. You can book in advance to take part in other exciting activities.

Great experience. Very safe. Professional personell so you don't have fear of anything bad could happen. :) These days is very crowded becsuse of tourists. So if you can choose your time better come at the beginning of september. We had to wait 2 hours for our turn.

The zipline was a lot of fun, and the staff were very nice and informative. There are only two lines though, so the experience doesn't last long.

What a hidden gem this place is. Free motorhome parking, no services but a lovely quiet place to spend the night. The museum houses Tito's huge collection of cars. We spent a good few hours walking around. Then we enjoyed a coffee at the café just across the way.

We actually stumbled into the place by complete accident on route to our hotel. But I am so glad we did. It's really an amazing place. It's at least a 2-3 hours programme and I found all the exhibits interesting. And the best thing is, all the exhibits are a bit different theme, so everybody can find something that they emjoy. Would even like to return there sometime.

The Postojna Cave Ticket Store offers various tour options, especially during the busy summer months. Guided tours are the only way to explore the complex cave system. Visitors can purchase combined tickets with nearby attractions like the castle, although shuttle service is not included. It's recommended to visit the castle in the morning and then explore the cave due to limited bus schedules.
Service was fast. Cashiers were very helpful in guiding us.

Postojna Cave Ticket Store – A Smooth Start to an Incredible Journey Purchasing tickets at Postojna Cave was a seamless and pleasant experience that set the tone for the adventure ahead. The ticket store is located right next to the main entrance, easy to find, and well-organized. Even with a steady flow of visitors, everything moved efficiently thanks to clear signage and helpful staff. Although online booking is also available and highly recommended during busy periods. The staff were welcoming, spoke excellent English, and explained the different ticket options, including combo packages that cover additional sights like Predjama Castle. What I appreciated most was the detailed information provided at the ticket counter — they explain the tour timings, meeting points, and even suggest how to plan extra activities if you have more time in the area. It made organizing our visit stress-free. The standard cave ticket includes an exciting electric train ride and a guided walking tour. While the live guides are very knowledgeable, the audio guide available in multiple languages is also an excellent option. I found the audio guide particularly helpful for getting deeper insights without feeling rushed, and it allows you to enjoy the magical surroundings at your own pace. Overall, the Postojna Cave ticketing experience was extremely professional, friendly, and efficient. It’s clear they care about making every visitor’s experience smooth from the very beginning — an excellent introduction to one of Slovenia’s greatest natural wonders.

Prodan Tartufi offers truffle hunting experiences at their own farm, providing a unique opportunity to learn about and witness the process of finding truffles. Visitors can enjoy a truffle hunt with an adorable dog, followed by a three-course tasting experience featuring fresh truffles and Prodan Tartufi products. The hosts are described as lovely, and the overall experience includes excellent food, stunning views, and a rich history lesson.
We had an unforgettable and truly unique experience truffle hunting with our wonderful hosts, Višnja and Mirko. They were incredibly patient, warm, and knowledgeable, making the day enjoyable for all of us — including our 2.5-year-old toddler, who had super playful and gourmet experience. Our adventure began with an introduction to truffles, history of making products within Prodan family, followed by a walk through the beautiful woods, chatting with Mirko and playing with his friendly dog, Sky. Along the way, we learned fascinating insights about truffles and the art of truffle hunting. Afterward, we were treated to a delicious three-course lunch made from fresh local ingredients, each dish perfectly infused with the rich flavors of Prodan truffles. Their property offers a stunning view of the historic town of Buzet and is conveniently located near a scenic hike featuring waterfalls and untouched forests. We would love to return and spend even more time exploring this incredible region. Highly recommended!

My wife and I booked a truffle hunt in the morning and went along with our guide Igor, Sky the best truffle finding pup in the world, and with another couple. Višnja welcomed us, explained a lot about their gourges family truffle farm and prepared the most delicious eggs! We enjoyed every moment and were amazed and delighted by everything we learned and experienced there. Bought some of the products and cannot wait to try them at home. Thank you for a memoreable authentic and yummy slovenian morning!

Such an authentic truffle experience. The truffle hunting is the highlight, but the family is just wonderful.
Scott E — Google review
This morning, we rode an hour in the rain to our truffle hunting destination. We didn't know what to expect. We--well, actually I (it was a bit wet with too many tree roots and low hanging branches for my partner) went truffle hunting with Sky the dog and Igor Jekić He is married to Višnja Prodan, whose family have been truffle finders for generations. The two of them, both my son Nick's age and also engineers, left their factory jobs to run the truffle hunting business, along with Višnja's brother, Mirko, I believe. The setting was lovely. I pulled on the boots and rain jacket provided to me, and off we marched into the woods. After our successful hunt (Sky found two truffles that Igor had to snatch from Sky before Sky ate them), we came back to a truffle flavored feast that Višnja prepared, with white (rare) and black truffles on bread, in eggs, in salad, and even in vanilla ice cream, which sounded to me like a Chopped challenge, but tasted like heaven. My travel agent asked them to accommodate my no dairy preference, which they did, but I asked to try the cheese and ice cream. Well worth a cheat. Please go here and support them.

Oh my g0d, what a wonderful place. Firstly, just as a shop, secondly, as a distillery where you can learn details how the local specials are made, and lastly… you will not believe how welcoming the staff are (especially Ivanka? Or similar name which I couldn’t remember). They will ghost you like an old friend giving you all the best they have! I’ll be back.

Top place! And also top gin! We were welcomed with some liquor to taste and then we visited the distillery! Friendly but professional stuff. We also had a local gin and a light liquor and a free plate of cheese and ham was on the table in less than a second! Bravo!

Amazing experience, must visit place if you are in Croatia. This place is an epitome of hospitality. I was travelling with my family from Croatia to Germany and discovered this distillery by chance. We thought of buying some local liquor and decided to stop over. As soon as we entered there was no one selling anything or pushing us to buy, we felt like we were guest in someone’s home. We tried chocolates, Jams, we were served tasty cocktails for tasting. Ivana also gave us a tour of the distillery, my kids really enjoyed the experience. I was at the distillery in mid of June. Little late to write my review but I promised the host that I am gonna definitely write a review for this spot. I bought orange cello, local chocolates, olive oil, jam, biska and gin. Everything we bought has great quality and taste. I would defiantly visit again when I am in Croatia next time.

A Truly Memorable Experience at Distillery Aura! From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with such genuine warmth and friendliness by the staff and it instantly set the tone for what turned out to be an unforgettable visit. Everyone we met was passionate, knowledgeable, and eager to share the story behind their incredible products. We had an amazing time exploring the distillery, learning about the process, and of course, tasting! The highlight was definitely Teranino and istrian Gin, it’s truly one of a kind. Unique in flavor, beautifully crafted. We couldn’t leave without taking a bottle (or two!) home. This visit was so much more than we expected. Completely worth it! If you’re in the area, don’t miss the chance to stop by. It’s a gem!

We visited Aura destilleri and we left with loads of excellent memories. Great place, remarkable experience and excellent display of many various products. Warmth, knowledge and friendliness of all staff, but particularly from Ivana and Fernanda. We will definitely visit Aura again.

Walking into Destilerija Aura in Buzet feels like stepping into a secret world of tradition, flavor, and style. The interior is stunning - exposed stone walls, vintage details like the old cash register, glowing shelves of bottles, and even their iconic Vespa tucked inside. It’s not just a shop, it’s an experience ❤️. We were welcomed with complimentary tastings of food and drinks 😍. Platters of Istrian cheese, prosciutto, olives, and fresh bread were paired with their unique liqueurs and gins. The staff were beyond kind, taking the time to explain every flavor, and since they had time, they even gave us a private tour. Seeing the barrels, herbs, and distilling area up close added so much authenticity. The products are outstanding - the premium Pelinkovac is rich and herbal, while the famous Teranino is sweet, smooth, and unforgettable. Their Karbun gin also stood out as something special. ✨ Tip: Don’t rush. Take your time to taste, ask questions, and enjoy the atmosphere. You’ll probably end up bringing home more bottles than you planned. We’ll definitely be back!

Predjama Castle

Castle
Sights & Landmarks
Predjama Castle, located 9km from Postojna, is a 13th-century fortress built within a cave in the face of a cliff. The castle's construction spans several centuries, with most of its current structure dating back to the 16th century. It stands as an impressive and seemingly unconquerable sight. Visitors can explore restored living areas, dungeons, and even a secret tunnel while learning about its fascinating history through audio guides.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A must-see! Predjama Castle is absolutely breathtaking — a true gem built right into the side of a cliff! The combination of natural beauty and medieval architecture is stunning. Every corner of the castle tells a story, and you can really feel the history as you walk through the rooms and tunnels. The views from the castle are incredible — looking out over the valley feels like stepping back in time. It’s one of the most unique and fascinating places I’ve ever visited. Highly recommend!
Jose P — Google review
The castle is amazing, get the free audio guide and listen to the detailed history of the castle as you walk through it. We drove to the castle and parking is a bit of a hassle, some free others you need to pay for. You can drive right up and do a loop to see what parking near is available.
Chris Y — Google review
The castle always amazes me with its grandeur and power. I like that they offer an interactive guide (it's a shame that there isn't one in Postojna Cave). The downside is that they charge for the guides, which I've never experienced anywhere else in Europe - even in Postojna Cave. But I definitely recommend anyone who wants to visit a castle to visit it, you won't be disappointed.
Zumba Š — Google review
Gorgeous setting for a castle. Would have easily stayed outside of it having a coffee and contemplating rather than paying and coming in, but either way don't miss it!
Anibal M — Google review
A different type of castle, picturesque and quaint. Has been used as a backdrop for movies and TV series. The parking is a bit of a trek away from the castle. There is free WiFi, and the castle has a free downloadable audio guide, which is quite detailed and helpful. Lots of climbing up stairs involved. The view from the castle balconies is awesome.
PALLAB R — Google review
The most incredible castle in the side of a cliff! I cannot believe people are saying not to bother with it - it’s incredible! Really worth a visit, the audio guide available on your phone is convenient and informative! I was blown away, must visit!

The Skocjan Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage site, are an extraordinary subterranean network of caves and canyons formed by the Reka River over thousands of years. The 6km-long cave system features fossil-filled chambers and a river that flows into the Dead Lake before resurfacing as the Timavo River in Italy. Visitors can explore this remarkable natural wonder on a flat walking tour, admiring its unusual karst landscape and historical significance dating back to prehistoric times.
What an amazing place! A beautiful walk through the caves. At the end, you can choose one of three trails: 10 minutes, 30 minutes, or 1 hour. I highly recommend the 1-hour trail, as it gives you access to more caves and bridges. Make sure to buy your tickets in advance, and I recommend bringing a raincoat and waterproof boots or sneakers
Manuela B — Google review
The caves are worth seeing, although it is quite dark inside (for good reasons), and a lot of detail can't be seen. There are hundreds of steps, mostly going down inside the cave. Once the guided tour was completed, I took the exit to the left which includes two options, a 30 minute path or a one hour path. The one hour path was fantastic. There are so many points of interest worth capturing on camera, especially a waterfall. The end of the path was all up hill, with many elongated steps. The rest is along a road back to the parking lot. The morning was all sold out if tickets were not bought in advance. The afternoon was less busy. A free museum of how the explorers found and traversed the cave is under the information centre. A gift shop, cafe and large seating area was available inside and out.
Niki — Google review
Amazing, monumental, huge and much less commercial and crowded cave than postojna. I really recommend this one for people who want to experience one of the most amazing cave of the world. The amount of space, of the water and beauty inside is just overwhelming. Parking is free, same with toilets. The pace was just a little too fast for people who are less than average sporty. Overall 10/10 Important information: you absolutely cannot take photos inside
J ( — Google review
Grand. On one level just a large cave complex (dry side) but then the river cuts through the cave and its is magnificent and huge (and for me terrifying). Guide was good and nice to have some time for exploring. Be warned, lots of walking.
Stefan S — Google review
Stunning. We were actually unsure before the tour, and it's true you have very little choice during the tour but follow guide and group like a sheep, especially if there are many people like when we visited. But at the same time this cave system is breathtaking. Of course I would enjoy a different way of visiting, slower, with more time, less people. But if that's the only way it's still worth it! But you should be afraid of heights ;) The information at the Park are actually very poor, the information center was already closed before our tour ended, that was a bit disappointing..
Scarlett M — Google review
I absolutely love caves and visit them anywhere in the world that I can, but this is amazing. It's huge inside. Also the extra walk after the cave tour is equally as good as the cave itself. Spend the extra hour and take the extra steps to make the trip worth it.
Gabe R — Google review
Awe inspiring cave that is a UNESCO site. There is a massive gorge with a river running through it that is like something out of the Mines of Moria. This is an absolute must visit if in beautiful Slovenia. You can’t take photos inside the main caverns only on the outside areas.
Tyler G — Google review
Beneath the surface lies a hidden world of wonder. Just across the border in Slovenia, a country of breathtaking nature, mountains, and castles, you'll find a place of incredible beauty and astonishing statistics: Škocjan Caves. This UNESCO World Heritage site is home to one of the largest underground canyons on the planet. Carved by the Reka River, this massive canyon, up to 140 meters high in some places, is a spectacle to behold. The sheer scale is mind-boggling, with the incredible Martel Chamber, one of the largest cave rooms in the world, boasting a volume of 2.2 million cubic meters. Walking through the canyon, you'll cross the Cerkvenik Bridge, suspended 47 meters above the river, and witness other wonders like the 15-meter-tall "Giant" stalagmite. It's a humbling and awe-inspiring experience that reminds you of the immense power of nature. Have you ever visited a place that took your breath away? One important note for your visit: please do not use flash photography inside the cave!

Jama - Grotta Baredine, located in Istria, Croatia, has been open to visitors since 1995. This karst cave offers guided tours through its 132-meter deep stalactite formations and five impressive halls. The cave is home to the human fish, a unique species endemic to the area. Visitors can also enjoy vintage tractor and pottery exhibits as well as an eatery surrounded by olive trees and a vineyard.
Nice cave to visit with all the family. The guides are really gentle and they provide a lot of interesting information about the site, also in a funny way for children too. We spent there about 2 hours. Next to the entrance there is also a good bar that serves coffee, drinks in general and sandwiches. The parking is for free, so you have to pay only for the guided tour.

Very interesting cave that goes down 60 meters. Lots of stalagmites, stalactites, columns and other mineral formed cave features. The guide was very easy to understand and funny. The highlight was the human fish (Olm/aquatic salamander) at the bottom. I was able to get some great pictures of it. There is plenty of free parking and it was easy to get to from Rovinj by car. There is also a cave museum as part of the entry and a café for food and drinks. Highly recommend.

Small, but beautiful. If you're in the area, great opportunity to take some very nice photos and see proteus in person. The girl at the cash register was wonderful, going above and beyond to orchestrate our visit (2 adults with a big dog that couldn't enter) and the formation of groups so that we can go one after the other with no waiting time nor overlap, so one person was with the dog while the other was in the cave, and neither had to wait for too long. My guide (Ana) was embodiment of patience and calm, effortlessly switching between languages and answering all the extra questions. Lighting showcases the best of mineral formations (a lamp strategically placed behind one of "elephant's ears", for example, shows a streak of red pigment within the otherwise milky white mineral). Steep and wet, not good for people on wobbly legs. Temperature inside the first 3 or 4 rooms actually a bit higher than the advertised 14°C; on a hot day it felt refreshing rather than cold. Plenty of parking under the shade of trees and large covered sitting area. Bar right next to the cave entrance, serves good coffee and real homemade lemonade.

Very fascinating inside view of a very deep cave close to Poreč. The guide takes you deep down in the cave where you can even see an old. A blind axleottle like animal that lives only in the deep caves of this area.

Grotto Baredine is a cave full of stagmites and stalactites. To enter the cave you need to join a guided tour, so probably worth checking in advance for the times of tours in your preferred language. There are approximately 270 steps down into the cave as you move through each of the five chambers with your guide. The cave is pretty wide, but some of the steps/staircases are steep and wet so care should be taken. At the bottom of the cave live two olm salamanders. Worth visiting.

Nice cave. Not the biggest one but worth visiting. The queue for the tickets can be 30 mins long and then you can wait 2h before you go inside, but they give you exact time. You can visit tractor museum in the mean time.

Aquapark Aquacolors in Porec is the largest water park in Croatia, offering over 20 water attractions, including 13 giant water slides and a 500-meter lazy river. It can accommodate thousands of visitors daily and is suitable for all ages. The park features a beachfront wave pool, a bar, and a kids' zone. Additionally, it boasts Crocodile Bay, a newly built relaxing zone with massages and large swimming pools.
I really enjoyed this aquapark! I even managed to go on some slides twice, and it was a lot of fun. The whole place was entertaining and well worth the visit. The one thing I would improve is the opening hours - it would be great if the park stayed open longer.

From an adults perspective I'd only visit here with a child. There's alcohol and some places you can get beer from. Despite what their website says you can bring your own food and drink in. We didn't as the website said otherwise but we noticed loads, dozens of families bringing in their own shade tents, cooler boxes, beers and food. All out in the open, not snuck in by any means. Get their for opening in you want to rent some chairs under a shade umbrella, they go fast in peak season. Same with lockers. We rented a small locker for our phones and money. The park provides you with a wrist band that you make purchases with (don't lose it) and you pay at the end.
Hidden P — Google review
We spent the day here today and had a good time. There is a good variety of rides , the croc bar is very cool and the kids enjoyed the lazy river. The problem here is the lack of staff and life guards. There are no life guards or staff looking over the lazy river or the pools except the wave pool, which the guy spent the whole time on his phone. Every time we past him we didn't see him look up. There's maybe more staff on site but we barely saw any apart from the ones manning a few of the rides that they were supposed to. This then meant there were a bunch of kids going mad in the lazy river and throwing in the rings at each other and jumping off the side, and another group taking all the free rings and building a wall to try and block the water flow. I mean, 30+ rings, and were actually laughing at people trying to get in when they were going up and taking them saying haha there's non free because we have them all. This would easily be stopped if there was adequate staff. The lights in some of the rides were also not working so you had to lean over and try and see when the previous person came out the end. It's a shame, as we did enjoy the day over all. We paid as we arrived and had no queuing, the rides we also didn't have to queue too long. I would definitely recommend, but the management of the park needs to improve.

This place is awesome! We spent 4 hours here and could've stayed longer. There's slides and activities for all ages and the longest we had to wait for a slide was about 10 minutes. A couplee of pro tips.... 1. Get the fast pass to skip any lines. 2. Check out their free entry on your birthday promotion!
Chris B — Google review
Great place to spend a day, great activities (I believe they were here because of Dalmaland's Birthday but I am not sure). If you are going I suggest you get tickets for both the aqua and fun park as it's not too big and if you got to only 1 it can get pretty boring pretty quickly.
Borko N — Google review
Unfortunately, the aquapark has 10 years and it becomes to be noticeable. Some positive development is that they have added new walking path / shortcut to attractions and replaced part of the paving to light concrete so you do not burn your feet in sunny days. The lift for the largest tubes for 4 persons for Magicone attraction is still not working and you have to carry the heavy tube upstairs yourself :-( Beware that they have added additional payments for parking and sunbeds. The payment for safe deposit box is not worth it, the box no special "safe" box but is the same as the standard boxes, only smaller.

This was the first place we had food at in Porec. Very welcoming service, friendly, and delicious food. We had bruschetta and salads - it was lovely, fresh, and beautifully presented. The tartufata was amazing. Extra thanks to the waiter who was kind and made us feel very welcome!

This place is an absolute gem! From the moment I walked in, I was struck by the warm, inviting atmosphere—think cozy lighting, stylish decor, and just the right balance of lively energy and intimate charm. Whether you're on a date, catching up with friends, or enjoying a solo glass, it’s the perfect setting. The owner has clearly poured passion into every detail, curating a fantastic selection of wines that caters to both casual sippers and connoisseurs. I appreciated the thoughtful recommendations, including a few off-menu highlights that made the experience feel personalized. Speaking of service, the staff truly shines—knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely friendly and funny. They made me feel welcome without being overbearing, and their enthusiasm for the drinks and the food added to the fun. Visited during the morning and it was really beautiful with no one around. This 6th-century UNESCO World Heritage site is a stunning example of early Byzantine architecture. The basilica's intricate mosaics, particularly in the apse, are among the finest in the world, depicting biblical scenes with extraordinary detail and vibrant colors. The basilica has been a place of Christian worship for over 1,500 years, making it not only an artistic marvel but also a site of deep historical and religious significance. Half price for students. Nice view of the sea from the walls too.

Anthony's Shaft Mining Museum offers a unique and immersive experience, allowing visitors to step back in time and explore the working conditions of mercury miners in Idrija. The museum is housed within the 500-year-old Anthony Shaft, which leads to the first mine and features extensive tunnels. Visitors are provided with protective clothing and helmets before embarking on a guided tour that covers about 1200m of the mine, lasting approximately 1 hour.
It is a great and unique experience to walk this mine that gave world like 1/8 of Hg. Young tour guide lady🌹 answered all questions about air system, maintaining the mine, etc. But a bit in rush way. Before entering mine there is a 20 minutes video about mine and Idrija. Than you changes cloths and walk inside for a bit less than an hour. There is a white baroque chapel of Holly Trinity inside with statue of saint Barbara. The tube has light all the way, but it is a bit unpleasant, if there were any. So respect to all mine workers. Unfortunatelly they don't sell Hg as they did in the past, because it is forbidden. On the way you can admire just some drops of Hg.

A very interesting presentation of the 500 years of mercury mining in Idrija. The guides are very knowledgeable and tell the story well. I recommend you buy a joint ticket to visit the mine and then the Smelting Plant on the opposite side of town. Tour one, then grab a bite to eat, then tour the other. It is a great way to spend the day, especially if the weather doesn’t cooperate to spend time outdoors.

Beside them is this very interesting Cathedral dating back to 14 century, as well the Habsburg fortress above. In those days there were actually two smaller churches. Trieste people wanted a bigger, main Cathedral there, so great efforts were made to join them together, collecting ancient stones and building materials from that Roman site due to lack of funds. Entry is free and you can admire the magnificent mosaic altar inside. Paying are the crypt and the bell tower. Pro Tips: - Park your car in the Park San Giusto garage, take the elevator to level 0 which takes you right in front of it, - you can take that elevator even as a pedestrian (if you're not by car) to avoid the steep climb on foot - it's free, - beautiful views of Trieste town and bay from the square in front

This cathedral, perched atop the original Roman settlement, fuses two older churches into an architectural statement that commands attention—think Romanesque grit, Gothic form, and Byzantine mosaic finesse, all with zero entrance fee. Throw in panoramic city views and ancient ruins at your feet, and you've got yourself a monument that’s strategically placed.

Beautiful church with a lot of history! The interior is quite stunning and definitely worth visiting. I attended a mass and there was a choir that sang so beautifully that you could literally feel the connection to God. I also went to look for a birth certificate of my grandfather and the priests and staff were incredibly friendly and helpful.

Located on San Giusto Hill, a site with origins dating back to Roman times, the cathedral was built between 1302 and 1320 by combining two earlier structures. It features a blend of Romanesque and Gothic styles, with well-preserved Byzantine-style mosaics from the 12th–13th centuries. The bell tower, built atop 14th-century Roman remains, houses five bells.

Beautiful cathedral, next to Castle de San Giusto, worth a visit. No problem if you have mobility issue coz there's a lift from parking area and electric bus too.

It is always interesting when there is something unique in all these religious temples. Here you can see from the pictures that the dome has very interesting and not so common ornaments and design.

The cult bridge of Trieste. Once upon a time, it was a meeting place for merchants. The bridge itself is not impressive and special, but its historical significance when you know the connotation is.

Unity of Italy Square, or Piazza Unita d'Italia, is a breathtaking expanse that proudly claims the title of Europe's largest seafront square. Nestled in Trieste, this grand public space offers stunning views of the sea and is surrounded by impressive architecture and charming cafes. The square showcases an elegant blend of Austro-Hungarian design and modern civic pride, making it a focal point for both locals and visitors alike.
✨ One of the most beautiful and majestic squares in Europe! Located right by the Adriatic Sea, this place offers a truly unique atmosphere. The architecture is stunning — especially the city hall facade, which looks incredible, especially when lit up in the evening. The square is clean, spacious, and perfect for a relaxing walk. There are plenty of cafés and restaurants nearby where you can enjoy the view with a cup of coffee. Absolutely a must-visit spot in Trieste for photos and unforgettable moments! 🌊🏛️

There are places that impress you, and then there are places that touch you. Piazza Unità d’Italia is the heart and soul of Trieste – a square that doesn’t just stand still in time, but breathes with the history, pride, and elegance of generations. Facing the Adriatic Sea, this square is both open and monumental – a rare balance of grandeur and intimacy. Surrounded by magnificent buildings and kissed by the sea breeze, it’s a place where you instantly feel present and small in the most beautiful way. By day, it shines with architectural harmony and calm Mediterranean charm. By night, it transforms into something almost poetic – glowing lights, reflections on the water, and an atmosphere that makes you slow down and simply absorb the moment. Being here with my family felt like stepping into a painting. It’s not just a place to visit – it’s a place
Vasilka G — Google review
The square looks impressive, the buildings around it architectural masterpieces. However, I didn't get a sense of the scale and spaciousness of the square. My wife and I visited the square on the closing day of the annual regatta (Barcolana). The entire space was filled with decorations, advertising banners, and prefabricated stalls selling food and beer. It was very noisy, crowded everywhere, but fun.

A beautiful place!! A huge plus is that there weren't masses of tourists so the square was really clear. The view is immersive!! 🤩 All the buildings look amazing. 🌟

1 | Piazza Unità d’Italia is the largest square in Europe opening onto the sea, its area is over 12,000 m². 2 | The square is definitely worth a visit and can easily be combined with a walk to the pier. We were there on a summer evening when the illuminated town hall building dominated the scene. 3 | The square is lined with numerous restaurants and cafés where you can sit down and relax. What surprised me was that most grocery stores close as early as 9:00 PM.

It is a big flat old stone dock. Great to walk once or twice, be aware that there is no shade in the 37c sun and little room to sit. It was enjoyable to see the Adriatic sea and look at any big ships docked but nothing else.

A beautiful big square facing the Adriatic Sea with 3 impressive palace buildings and a fountain. This is the seat of the local government for the city and the region. The square is used for concerts and parades and large civic events. Many famous music artists have played here including Green Day, Duran Duran, Carlos Santana, Iron Maiden, Garbage, Mike and Snoop Dogg

Trieste’s Unity of Italy Square is one of the most beautiful squares in Europe — a grand open space facing the Adriatic Sea. The view is breathtaking, especially at sunset. It’s home to some elegant cafés, including a very famous one, though the prices match the view :)

This single cavern is estimated to be around 10 million years old and boasts impressive dimensions of 280 meters long, 65 meters wide, and 107 meters high. The cave maintains an internal temperature of approximately 11 degrees Celsius. Visitors can explore this natural wonder through guided tours that provide insightful information about its geological formations in both Italian and English.
Absolutely beautiful cavern. Our guide was wonderful she gave us plenty of time to take photos and ask questions. We bought our tickets online and was given a time to tour. We took the bus from the center of Trieste bus 6, very easy. They have bathrooms and a vending machine. The stalagmites growing up and the stalagtites from above are amazing. There are several stairs to go up and down. This place is stunning but definitely not accessible to anyone with mobility issues. This is definitely an attraction not to be missed while in Trieste.

It's a must see when visiting Trieste. 500 steps down and 500 up, 11 Celsius, so be prepared (warm clothes, comfy shoes, no sandals). Booking is compulsory, the guided tour was about 1,5 hours long. It was amazing and informative, special thanks to the tour guides. Parking spaces are limited but quite enough.

Loved this cave experience! The photos don’t do it justice and the enormity is something you have to experience. The guide was great, she spent plenty of time speaking both Italian and then again in English. She was knowledgeable about the cave. Plenty of photo ops. It’s quite a hike down and back up but totally doable. It’s a cool, wet cave so take a jacket. I did call ahead to make a reservation for that tour about 1 hour ahead of time. The tours start on the hour.

Portorož Central Beach is very nice and well kept, with plenty of space and good facilities. The sand and swimming areas are clean, and the promenade adds to the lively atmosphere. The water wasn’t quite as crystal clear as you might see on postcards, but still pleasant for swimming. It does get crowded, especially in peak season, similar to the Italian Riviera, so expect a busy beach experience. They proudly say the water here is among the cleanest in Europe, and overall it’s a great spot to enjoy the sea, sun, and lively coastal vibe.

Walls of Piran

Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
The Walls of Piran are an ancient and fortified stone town wall with several notable gates, which have been renovated since the 7th century. The walls have undergone changes over time due to the city's expansion, resulting in the preservation of three different walls and seven city gates. While some areas have deteriorated, much of the original construction from between the 7th and 15th centuries remains intact.
Even though the path to the walls is a bit more challenging, the view is definitely worth it. Mostly narrow / steep stairs, not good for people with physical handicap. Good value for money. You can pay with card.
Janali X — Google review
Amazing views over the sea and the town. Cheap entry, only costs €3 per person. It is well worth the walk and the visit. There are a lot of steep steps to climb the towers but the view is great and it is a unique experience.
Viktória É — Google review
The tickets were so cheap, we had a great view of the city from the tower, a bit small for tall people such as myself but nevertheless it was great
Bálint K — Google review
Best 3 Euros spent. Not only is it interesting to explore the walls of the former fortress that protected Piran from enemies approaching it from the landslide, it also has the very best views of Piran to offer. For an obstructed view it’s best to go to almost the end of the wall and be careful on the ladders and stairs, it’s easy to hit your head !
Andreas W — Google review
The Walls of Piran are the defensive walls surrounding the coastal town of Piran, built in the 7th century. Some walls and towers can be accessed for a small entrance fee. It also offers the beautiful panoramic views of the coastal town and Adriatic sea.
Kevin A — Google review
The wall of the city of Piran, known as the “Piransko obzidje”, is one of the most famous symbols of this picturesque historic town on the Slovenian coast. Its history dates back from the 7th century to the early 16th century, serving as protection for the town against invasions, especially during the Ottoman incursions and the period of Venetian rule. Historical Facts and Interesting Details The first phase of fortification was built as early as the 7th century and originally enclosed only the oldest core of the town. As the city grew, the wall was extended several times – the second phase was added during the Venetian rule (late 13th century), and the third and largest in the 15th and 16th centuries due to the threat of the Ottoman Empire. The fortification included three separate sections of walls and seven town gates, most of which are still preserved today. The best-preserved part, with towers, is located on Morgoron Hill southeast of the center, offering a stunning panoramic view of the entire town of Piran, the Adriatic Sea, the Bay of Trieste, and on clear days, even Croatia and Italy. The wall is characterized by Venetian Gothic architecture, later with elements of the Renaissance style. Visiting the Piran Town Wall Today The wall is open to the public daily, usually from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM (summer schedule), with last entry shortly before sunset. The view of the sunset over the sea from here is spectacular. Admission is €3 for adults, less for students, and children under 12 enter for free. Dogs are not allowed. Visitors can climb several towers, but should be prepared for narrow, sometimes uneven and steep stairs. Not suitable for individuals with significant mobility issues. Sturdy footwear is recommended. Legend of Piran and Experience There’s a local legend about the “Witch of Piran,” who was said to protect the town from enemies by conjuring up storms over the sea. Walking along the wall offers not only a journey through history but also unforgettable views and the perfect spot to photograph iconic red rooftops and the turquoise sea. Piran is considered one of the most beautiful examples of a Mediterranean historic fortified town, and its wall is among the most visited places in Slovenia – a must-see for lovers of history and photography. Surrounding the square are historic buildings such as the Church of St Peter and Tartini House, where the composer was born. Absolutely loved this place. It was the cleanest town I've been to not a piece of litter anywhere, lots of history, lots of bars and places to eat. St. George's Parish Church is a historical cathedral situated on the waterfront, boasting a clock tower and incredible panoramic views from the top. Constructed in baroque style during the early 17th century, it replaced an older church dating back to 1344. Visitors can view some of the lavishly adorned interior through a metal grille while full access is granted via the Parish Museum of St George, which also features catacombs and treasury items.

Amazing place for a wine tasting! 25€/person and it includes 6-8 wines they produce + snacks and tapas (local). The host/owner is a story teller with perfect English so it was nice to listen to the history of their wine making + about the wines itself.

We had an absolutely fantastic time at Lepa Vida Winery! 🍷✨ The wine tasting was truly outstanding – we got to try 9 different wines, each one delicious and unique, paired with a wonderful selection of local specialties that complemented the tasting perfectly. It was not only informative and entertaining, but also full of fun and good vibes. For just 25€ per person, it was an incredible value! We also stayed overnight with our SUV and rooftop tent on their pitch for only 10€ per night, which was super quiet and peaceful. Having access to a toilet at the winery made it even more convenient. Overall, this was an unforgettable experience – amazing wines, warm hospitality, great food, and unbeatable prices. Highly recommended to anyone visiting the area! 🌟🍇

My tasting went great. I was the only one, which was pretty cool. I still got the entire experience from start to finish. In addition to trying 7 out of 9 wines, I was also told the history in why they were named what they are, the designs on the bottles, why the bottles are how they are, and some other history. Every wine I had was great. The food provided was good and neutral, being that it went with all of the wine. They also focus on white wines, so there is only one red wine available. I got here by rental car. Plenty of parking, just don’t miss the turn into the property, it comes up very quick. Free WiFi is also available. You can also buy bottles or boxes at very good prices. As an American, it was shocking to see how good of a price it was. Funnily, the lady told me that it’s common that Americans are surprised at the prices. A great experience that I do recommend. If you have a rental, take the time to explore the area, especially soca river. I went to Tolmin gorge on my way to the tasting. It provided a great way take the not direct route from Ljubljana to the tasting and see some really nice sights.

We had a wonderfull time on board of captain Deans ship. From beginning to end it was an amazing experience for us and more importantly, our 3 year old. Our son was thought how to be a pirate and was allowed to stear the boat. The captain has an amazing and well told stories that he tells in English, Slovenian and Italian. Very entertaining. A true talent. The views were amazing, as are the stories. Extra kuddos to Carmen. Who took care of our drinks and allowed me to walk on the more quiet part of the boat to get our baby to sleep. (Small) Dogs are allowed too. We couldn't find this info on the website.

Just great! The captain is this very nice and charismatic guy who just loves his job. Great steady and smooth boat ride along the river, the captain tells a lot about the river and a funny legend that comes with it. Also amazing for kids, they get to help and steer the boat. No drinks or food allowed on board, part of their business model and clearly stated by signs before entering. Drinks are around 2,- and 2,20 euro's.
