This cathedral is really beautiful and really big. We have enjoyed this so much. Beautiful mosaiques inside. You can visit this cathedral sure for 30 till 60 minutes. The windows are incredibly beautiful. Entrance is not free. 8 eur per person. Don't miss it.
S B — Google review
Very interesting cathedral. We paid to enter €8 per person which includes audio guide. There is an old building and new building to explore. The altars are incredibly ornate.
Linda H — Google review
A fantastic treasure of architecture and art. Maybe 8 euros is a but too much but it was still worth it.
Viktor K — Google review
Las Edades del Hombre..: great way to learn about transit across sacred art… if you can, spend a few days enjoying Plasencia, the food, people and the countryside. You will truly enjoy it!

Must see if you are in Plasencia! For only 4€ you can visit this fantastic place including a very interesting audio tour. You can see the history of the old cathedral of the 14th century and the new one of the 16th century build next to each other. Impressive!!!

Trujillo Alcazaba

Sights & Landmarks
Ancient Ruins
Trujillo Alcazaba, also known as Trujillo Castle, is a medieval Moorish stone fortress with 8 towers and a horseshoe arch. Situated at the top of a granite hill in the city, it was built between the 9th and 12th centuries over an Arab citadel. The castle offers panoramic views of dusty plains dotted with smaller castle ruins and ancient walls. It has gained popularity as one of the filming locations for Game of Thrones.
Trujillo is an amazing place to visit. You are surrounded by history . You actually feel.like you are in a movie set in some historical movie . The atmosphere is something else . Trujillo has great restaurants , cafes and bars. . Everyone is very helpful and great fun the Spanish have a wonderful way of always being fun loving and engaging If you need help they are more than happy to help . Trujillo is full of history the Plaza Mayor is stunning you need to give yourself time as I'm the summer it gets VERY hot so my advice is do what the Spanish go out when they do before it gets too hot,to eat at the time they eat their main meal from 2 o'clock rest after a long lunch and go out in the evening to walk around at a leisurely phase no rushing about Trujillo is to enjoy and observe .
Zeta K — Google review
Very well maintained old castle. Not a lot to see inside the castle itself, but you do get to walk along the ramparts and a little in the sewers below. Not bad for 2€. This is the castle from Game of Thrones Season 7 used for Castelry Rock.
Kevin G — Google review
Entrance fee is €2. 30-40 minutes you need to see and to walk inside. Astonishing view from the top to the city. Arabic water storage, small chapel, many towers and stairs.
Nadia R — Google review
A really good experience. Not crowded and gorgeous views.
Brian S — Google review
Well worth the visit. Best to walk up to it from the Plaza Major in the early morning to arrive for its opening. the views are spectacular as is the place itself. The 'old town' of Trujillo, its walls and old streets takes your mind back to the time it was built and you are in awe.
Richard B — Google review
Fantastic stay in Trujillo , the architecture is truly amazing topping with a fantastic Castle.
Dave F — Google review
The Alcazaba de Trujillo is perched up on a hill. This fortified military camp was built in the 13th century mainly for defensive purposes, which is why there are no residential rooms. From what I could see from the outside is somewhat preserved. While it is on the outskirts of the old town, I do recommend going there. Unfortunately the day I went, I waited for an hour for it to open after the lunch break and it never did.
Nanita — Google review
This should be the peak of my trip to Trujillo and I kept it for last. Unfortunately, the opening times are once more wrong online. The local ourist management is sloppy enough to ruin a visit to this town. Certainly not worthy of a town that expires world Heritage status.

Parque Nacional de Monfragüe

Mentioned on

National park
Nature & Parks
Nature preserve
Parque Nacional de Monfragüe is a breathtaking biosphere reserve with stunning cliffs, rock faces, and abundant wildlife. The main attraction is the vultures, especially at Salto del Gitano near the castle where you can use binoculars to see chicks in nests. Additionally, there are walking trails and a visitor's center at Villareal de Carlos for more information. However, parking can be limited during peak times.
We came there to see and photograph the landscape and wildlife. A splendid day, black vulture, griffon vulture, Egyptian vulture, eagle, blue magpie, deer, etc. quite near by, gorges, river and brooks, ruïnes, rocks and forests, a paradise for nature lovers!
Jan D — Google review
I haven't got the statistics but I believe that Monfragüe National Park must be Spain's most visited National Park by foreign birders. It's a paradise for raptors, with Black, Griffon and Egyptian Vultures, Spanish Imperial Eagles, Golden, Booted, Short-toed and Bonelli's Eagles, as well as Black Stork, Eagle Owl, Iberian Magpie, Spanish Sparrow, Blue Rock Thrush, Rock Bunting, Hawfinch, and a whole lot more. My first visit here was with the UEA bird club back in 1985, and it hasn't really changed much in essence since then. These days I visit the park once or twice a year, usually leading birding tours for our own company, Birding In Spain, or for a British or American bird tour operator. There are more parking spaces at the Salto del Gitano, but it also gets a lot busier than it used to. The views from the Castillo are as impressive as they always were, and you can see still Eagle Owls at La Portilla, with a bit of luck. Then, just immerse yoourself in the beauty of the surrounding cork oak dehesa to really enrich the experience. Monfragüe National Park? AN absolute must-see for any visiting birder!
Steve W — Google review
Absolutely stunning. Snow topped mountains, open clean air, sunshine. Great place to drive, amazing countryside. I went to take photographs of birds. I was not disappointed. I can recommend a visit.
Jay B — Google review

recommended to avoid it on really sunny on hot days, since the park doesn't have many big trees for shade. the landscape is astonishigly beautiful and there are many paths you can follow around if you want to discober the park hiking

During the Middle Ages, it was home to a thriving Jewish community, with remnants of this heritage still visible today. The cobblestone streets and hidden squares offer a glimpse into its past. Monasterio de San Jerónimo de Yuste

Monastery
Sights & Landmarks
Monasterio de San Jerónimo de Yuste is a restored monastery, church, and gardens that dates back to the early 1400s. It was used as an emperor's retreat and is known for being the place where Charles spent his last days until he died of malaria. The monastery offers a glimpse into history with its well-preserved interiors, including the emperor's room and a beautiful chapel.
The Monastery of Yuste is known worldwide for being the last resting place of Emperor Charles V and is currently the venue for the European Charles V Award ceremony. It is a beautiful venue full of history. The entrance is €7, but Wednesday and Sunday are free after 3 PM. There are antique furniture, paintings, and statues given to the emperor. There is also one of his swords and a coffin replica which many believe was buried in a similar coffin. I recommend you to go because it is in the middle of nature, and you will also enjoy the road to get there.
Jose T — Google review
Excellent. Worth reading up on the emperor Charles v because he was so involved in English history and the lives of the Tudors. He died here and his austere little palace is well preserved. The monastery is very peaceful even when it’s busy.
Shadow T — Google review
Absolutely fantastic! Get a guided tour!!! You can buy tickets on the internet just to enter the place or pay a little bit extra and get an official guide to explain everything. All in the internet but guided tours are offered only at certain times. You need a guide or will miss 90% of the experience. In our tour there were only 4 people. There is too much history in this place.
Jimmy B — Google review
The monastery has a fascination with a huge historic fingerprint. Its a somehow remoted spot in this world with a calm appearance and wonderful view. The retired emperor choosed a spot to stay away and it is. The monastery is well prepared to give history and a understanding of Europe in some epochs. A time where Europeans were more united than devided. Ok thats because of Royal marriage Policy and less by consent from the people.
Axel S — Google review
Enjoyed this historic place. Interesting building and park area to walk around.
Fran K — Google review
Beautiful palace and gardens, well worth a visit. Check out the website for periods of free entrance.
F A — Google review
Beautiful historical monastery where Charles I spent his last days until he died of malaria. Gorgeous place to take photos, very neat to be able to visit the emperor’s room and the chairs he sat on and was carried in when he was sick, a pretty chapel and so cheap to get into compared to historical buildings in the US (Under 8 Euros for adults and half price for kids up to 16, seniors, and a bunch of other discounted groups). The audio guide is recommended, it’s well done. The grounds are spacious and really impressive, all sorts of paths to walk around and off the beaten path from the usual tourist routes.
Marta T — Google review
This monastery is by far the most beautiful, the most impossant one i have ever visited. The price is 7 euro each person. Really good that they check your stuff and safety. The three big trees oitside are jewels. The rooms inside too. What the most beautiful thing is, is the stair and wall, with all the growing and hanging treebranches that are climbing/growing to the wall.

Royal Monastery of Santa María de Guadalupe

Mentioned on

Monastery
Sights & Landmarks
The Royal Monastery of Santa María de Guadalupe is a major Roman Catholic monastery with its main church ordered by Alfonso XI in the 14th century. Located in Caceres, it's a favorite spot for birdwatchers due to its natural resources like the Monfrague National Park and Jerte Valley. The monastery, dating back to the 15th century, houses a carving of the Virgin Mary believed to be done by St. Luke.
Absolutely amazing place!!! It has a beautiful architecture and contains an amazing collection of artwork from the most famous European masters. You need to have a guided visit, otherwise you'll miss 90% of the experience. By guided I mean to hire a professional guide, The person that will accompany you during the visit is not a guide but a guard to make sure you don't nick anything.
Jimmy B — Google review
I really enjoyed the visit to the monastery. It is only possible to visit the building with a guided group tour, unfortunately only in Spanish. Even though I have a high level of Spanish, I could not follow everything. So you should be aware of this! The tour was very interesting and the virgen de Guadalupe was worth to see. You are not allowed to make pictures inside, I am not sure about it, but I can respect that. They only take cash. In total I recommend visiting this monastery.
Vincent W — Google review
I absolutely loved visiting the Royal Monastery of Santa María de Guadalupe. This UNESCO World Heritage site has a rich history, founded in the 14th century and closely tied to Queen Isabella and Christopher Columbus. The architecture is stunning, blending Gothic, Mudéjar, Renaissance, Baroque, and Neoclassical styles all in one place. The visit is only possible with a guided tour (you need to book a time) – you cannot just wander inside on your own. No photos are allowed inside, which helps preserve the sacred and historic atmosphere. Unfortunately, some visitors were very disrespectful, trying to sneak photos and even arguing with the guide and the Franciscan friar. I felt bad for them, as they were simply doing their job and protecting this incredible monument. Despite that, the tour was wonderful, informative, and well worth it. A truly special place that I highly recommend visiting with respect and an open heart.
Maria F — Google review
You cannot take pictures here, except one in the museum. I have not seen so much well preserved history. In the Church you can take pictures. For Catholics, there is a Eucharistic miracle located in the chapel of the relics. Also, you must go with a tour group that is guided, so you might want to check on times they go to the museum, so your wait is not long. We had to wait 30 minutes for our tour.
Bruce M — Google review
We arrived just in time for the €7 guided tour. So worth it. The building is amazing, but the contents in each section are unbelievable, especially the library. The guide was very pleasant and answered our questions in English, though the tour information is only in Spanish.
Jo D — Google review
The site is very original and historic. Tour is with a guide only. No English, only Spanish. It was very disappointing how quickly he hustled us through the rooms. We particularly wanted to see the embroideries and I doubt we got 4 minutes in that room. I would suggest to whoever is operating things that they raise their entry fee and hire more attendants. They seemed overwhelmed and frazzled. Same in the gift shop.
Claire R — Google review
Horrible experience. The visit only happens in groups, you have to follow your group, no slower or faster. A rude man who is responsible for the group opens a door, you see a room for 10 minutes, leaves, and go to the next room. No pictures allowed, for some reason. It's located far from all major cities in Extremadura, absolutely not worth the drive.

Loved it. What a fabulous castle and town for wandering around. The castle walls afford great views and is pretty much all intact, you can go into all the towers with no restrictions. You can easily spend 2 hours here, we did. You can even spend the night in the adjoining hotel.

The castle and adjoining hotel and palace are fantastic. The grounds are beautifully maintained with lots of manicured ares to sit and admire the scenery in the shade. The entrance to the castle is inside the Palace grounds. There is parking both inside and outside the walls. The website showed it was closed on Monday but it was open and only cost 4eu. Well worth the price of admission. There are alot of stairs with no permanent railings so if you are unsure of climbing it may be best to pass on going up. Castle is in very nice condition and has information plaques on just about everything. Highly recommend this location. Younger man at the ticket area was very knowledgeable and friendly. Spoke English as well. Small little gift shop at entrance that helps pay for the staff and buildings. If possible take a walk around the outside of the buildings for some great views.

We loved stopping here. There castle cost 3 euros per person to enter. Ha! So cheap, it was laughable. It was worth walking through. The view from the top is worth seeing.

Nice medium sized castle on the top of a hill, the staff there were the best, they are very talkative and informative , kinda feels like they are long time friends and you are just visiting their castle.

Spectacular complex of ancient caves with dramatic limestone formations & paved road entryway.
Stunning caves. Informative guide (Spanish only) and good pace to walk around. We combined with a trip to Segovia and Ávila. Definitely recommend.

Amazing, intimate caves. We basically had a one on one tour. Well preserved, well lit, with a great guide. A hidden gem! Our favorite cave so far, and we’ve visited the ones in Soplao and Slovenia.

100/10 Highly recommend. There’s guided tours, probably every hour, didn’t ask 😬 but we took the last tour that was at 19hs and it lasted 35 min. There’s restrooms, vending machines, a restaurant and souvenir shops.

I have visited this place before. The first time was around 45 years ago, the second time about 30 years ago. When I visited today, there are better facilities, e.g. restaurant, bar, gift shop. The tour is a wonderful experience where you can see the beauty of nature. If you don't speak Spanish you might struggle on the tour.

Great tour. Lots to see. Drinks available at the cave entrance and bar cafe at the base near car park. Ample free parking available. Well worth the visit

I had been told it was a worthwhile visit, but it beat my expectations by far. Really spectacular caves and formations.

The walk trough the cave is about 30 min and is a really cool atmosphere. Outside the cave there are a lot of geological posters that explain some of the history and formation of the cave. I managed this pics with an App named Cortex Cam

Nestled next to the vibrant San Agustin Plaza, Alcazaba y Huerto de San Agustín is a captivating historical site in Talavera. This beautifully reconstructed area showcases the rich heritage of the region, including remnants of Roman architecture that can be seen along its walls. The 17th-century Saint Agustin Church, designed by Fray Lorenzo of Saint Nicolas, exemplifies local Baroque brickwork and houses the Ceramics Ruiz de Luna Museum.

(Translated by Google) The castle is beautiful from the outside. It's a shame it's so neglected, because it's truly stunning. You can also see a lot of dirt around it, and if you look inside, there's a new, nondescript, abandoned building. It looks like they invested a lot of money, then pocketed just as much, only to leave it abandoned. It's a shame, really, because it would be a beautiful attraction to visit.

Nature preserve
Nature & Parks
Forests
We tried to catch a full red/orange forest but looks like we just missed it. Still, we come almost every year to hike and it’s always so beautiful. It’s like the little forest from a fairytale ☺️ Weekends they charge for entry, 6€ for a car and 2€pp. They also have nice seating in the front for a little picnic!
Nadia — Google review
Beautiful forest mainly composed by chestnut tree. Autumn is the most beautiful season, I really recommend to go in this season but, if possible, in week days, due to the fact that it is really crowded on weekends. Positive things: Astonishing nature in autumn, leaves looks like gold with their golden colour. There's also a parking for cars. Negative things: Really crowded in peak season and you have to pay.
Teresa S — Google review
After an uncomfortable 20 minutes dust road drive to the parking you get out of the he car in the midest of lush forest. You instantly feel the fresh cold air as the trees leaves block most of the sun light. The routes are easy, confortable even for kids. On weekends, there is a guide welcoming visitors to give them indications on the nature they will see and participate to take care of by not dumping trash, not collecting chestnuts and following the stablished paths. The forest is hence well preserved even though it has lots of visitors. In El Tiemblo, before reaching the dusty road there is an information post where you are stopped by forest rangers. If you want to get there with your car you have to pay 6€ for the car plus 2€ per passenger. They'll provide indications and a map.

El Bosque Encantado

Mentioned on

Playground
Nature & Parks
El Bosque Encantado is a delightful theme park that offers botanical gardens with various walking trails and living plant sculptures, including metal structures covered by plants that form different figures. The park also features a tranquil waterfall adding to its scenic beauty. It is an ideal place to take small children who find delight in exploring the hidden corners of the garden filled with trees trimmed into different kinds of animals, flowers and stones. The landscape is stunning, filled with fresh air making it perfect for relaxation and exploration.
We had a wonderful time seeing the 320 or so sculptures in the various themed areas during both the day and night. Although we are adults I found it absolutely magical at night with both the illuminations and music. They seem to have quite a few challenges to maintain the park with weather phenomenons, for example 'Storm Philomena', as well as fungus and water issues. I soon learnt too that some of the topiary that appeared to have extra growth that needs trimming is in fact being grown to repair. Given that clearly many staff are needed to run and maintain the enchanted forest as well as the cost of upkeep including walkways, I felt that the entrance fee is justified. We spent 2 to 2.5 hrs going around though could easily have spent longer. There are mist showers too to cool off a little though the shade provided by the various areas is welcome in the summer heat. There is a 5€ gift card available to buy for presents if you've visited. There is also the option to buy magnifying glasses for 5€ deposit. There is a large free car park just before the entrance. Once inside there are toilets and a snack 'merienda' area.

This is great for little children. It's small but cute. Outdoor parking. Bit of a drive to get to it, and sharp unannounced turning to get on the right path. The dining areas were all closed, only a drinks machine was available.

Very nice place ... superb location.. amid mountains and forests .. good choice for a day trip from Madrid with friends and family The scriptures made of grass and plants are world class ... fine finishing .. theme based zones and a very interesting maze Plenty of sit out area inside and Plenty of parking space outside Washroom was clean and maintained How to reach - Best way is by car On public transportation from Madrid you need to come to San Martin de valdeiglasis (small town) by Bus, and then walk up the hill (almost 2 KM) Though it’s really pleasant walk , though little tiring It takes around 1 hour and 15 minuets to reach from Principie Pio station Madrid to this small yet beautiful town Only week aspect the very few (close to no) food option, there is cafe that serve nice Coffee, beer and refreshments... though it is also (named as) pizzeria, but pizza is not always available... So high recommendation that you carry some food (or you have to climb down to town for food) Nice place to spend 2-4 hours

Definitely worth it, especially if you have children!! Totally worth the price! Parking was ample. The gardens are well kept. The only thing missing was an open restaurant (closed she we were there). There are so many sculptures, that you can't spend less than two hours there. Tip: take snacks and water just in case.

A really nice fairy tail themed place. It s a really nice place to go with your children or in couple for a romantic afternoon. The place is medium as size and if you want to see everything and also take some nice photos, the visit can go up to 2-3 hours. The exponates are nice but they could do a better job on maintenance. I also think that it could be a interesting place to visit after dark. The price is ok - fair.

Barrancas de Castrejón y Calaña

Nature preserve
Outdoor Activities
Gorges & ravines characterize this natural reserve, which offers hiking & striking views.
This place is an absolute must see, I would recommend you to spend an afternoon here if you are close to Toledo. We went here in December on a foggy afternoon and as the weather cleared out and the sun started to lighten the mountains, it really took our breath. We only see 4 people here through our 2-3 hour walk so it is not congested to say the least. We parked our car at the place which is marked on Google maps as 'Aparcamiento Barrancas De Burujón' and walked up to 'Mirador del Cambrón' which took about 15 minutes. (You probably could directly come to this point with your car if there are only a few people there. I have added a picture about the road which leads you here.) There are 3 or 4 viewing spots with barriers where you can go the edges and take nice pictures. These viewing spots are about 5-10 minutes walking distance from each other and you can see the next one from the previous one. Between the viewing spots there are no barriers on the edges of the cliffs so this could be very dangerous with children who run around unadvised, so keep your children, dog etc close to you and follow the marked road. There is a picnic possibility with tables at the last viewing spot. There is no shadow and no trees to hide from the sunshine throughout this journey which could be a problem in the summer. Some trees have already been planted but it will take years till they become big enough. Visiting in the afternoon is recommended because the sunshine will lighten the cliffs from the right angle according to other guides. Favourite moment: The whole place was undisturbed by any human activity and you could here the birds from miles away but we also heard a cowbell which we could not understand. Later we saw the source of the sound which was a goat on one of the distant cliffs eating grass. God knows how it got there. :) (I've added a picture of it if you want to check it out.)

Safari Madrid

Wildlife and safari park

Safari Madrid offers a family-friendly experience with a variety of animals, including big cats, elephants, giraffes, zebras, rhinos, and camels. Visitors can drive through the large animal area and feed some of them carrots. There's also a section where kids can feed goats. The adventure includes go-karting and panoramic views of Madrid from 80 cabins that accommodate six people each at 40 meters above the ground.
We went on a day it was raining which was unfortunate…but even then, we had a blast! Went with my 3 and 5 year old and they loved it! Will go back again for sure when the weather is better bc I’m sure more animals will be out!
Victoria F — Google review
A cool place with animals running wild while you drive through. Directly at the start you'll get visited by ostriches that pops there head inside the car looking for carrots. So be sure to buy a few bags before entering. We were also approached by goats, camels and zebras that also wanted their share of our carrots. Beware of the goats though, they will put their front hooves on the car and they will definitely scratch your vehicle. Do not go here with brand new cars as I'm pretty sure no insurance will cover safari damages. The safari also offered snakes, spiders, turtles, frogs and much more. Recommended.
Björn R — Google review
Really great with kids. You get to see and actually interact with lots of animals. If you can carry a bag load of 🥕 to feed some animals.
Stanley O — Google review
What a fantastic experience! Our car was filled with young and old, and we were laughing and smiling the whole day. The safari and animals are clearly well cared for, and there are so many opportunities to feed them. The instructions were clear, and the large restaurant area was a great bonus. You’ll need at least 4 hours to really enjoy everything. Strongly recommend!
Ramona A — Google review
Unfortunately, in the safari, there is not much control. The above shows that people independently of being told not to feed the animals in this area, people do anyway. Due to this vehicle in the picture, a traffic jam was caused, the animals got greedy, and in my case, the zebras bit my wing mirror. The animals that were said to be seen were not on the tour. The enclosures for reptiles are small.
Luis N — Google review
Big area where lots of animals like zebras, elephants , rhinos and camels run free and you can see them by car. Some you can feed carrots. Then there is a part with goats you can feed and the kids love this! Although there is a mini zoo where some are in cages :( the poor panthers there were going insane . I hope there is a good reason why they cant be in the wild. There are also crocodiles, snakes, frogs and other reptiles. There are picnic areas where they also sell some snacks.
Deborah L — Google review
We really liked this adventure Kids fed all sorts of animals. We brought carrots and lettuce with us but you can buy at front ticket gate. We also purchased tickets online ahead of time. Sometimes it sells out. Teach kids how to use their windows some animals wanted to reach in your car for more food and or just to make the kids feel safe and they have the power to control who comes close. We also stopped by the reptile house and it was cool filled with lizards, crocodiles and other animals. We brought a lunch and then kids wanted to do go carts …. I was able to go with our youngest 6 and other two were able to drive by themselves ages 8,10. It was super hot so pack water in the summer time. They did have a couple shops or snack places to purchase things
Amanda D — Google review
Short drive from Madrid, but worths the visit. This wide open green area, is more than a simple zoo. Back to Nature eye relaxing destination. It provides an interactive experience feeding the animals, that the kids were crazy about! Organized path for the cars to drive through, feeding the animals safely. Labelling the dangerous zones with clear instructions to keep the windows shut. Entry for adults 19€, 15€ for kids. No family package discounts, but 2€ discount for “kart ride” that costs 12€ for double seat car, 7€ for kids. I highly suggest buying some carrot before arriving to feed the animals. You can buy it on the spot, but it will be more expensive. And bring a lot! You will enjoy it! Check the weather before your visit and bring your lunch for picnic meal. Many available wooden tables. Highly recommended for families. I liked it much more than Madrid traditional zoo.

Sights & Landmarks
The monastery Monasterio de San Juan de los Reyes is a 15th-century Franciscan church built in the style of Elizabethan Gothic in honor of Prince John during the reign of Isabella and Ferdinand II of Aragon. It features ornate two-tiered cloisters, now run by Franciscans.
The monastery was our favourite sights to visit in Toledo. We visited on a Monday afternoon and had no wait time to enter. The price is very reasonable considering you get access to most of the premises including the courtyard and church. There are no available bathrooms, however there are free public bathrooms in the plaza around the corner. There is plenty of seating to sit back, relax and enjoy the peaceful scenery. A must visit in Toledo!

The Monasterio de San Juan de los Reyes in Toledo is stunning! I wasn’t able to go inside unfortunately, but the exterior is breathtaking. I loved the unique Gothic details and the chains hanging from the walls. It makes for a great photo stop. It’s very affordable, only a few Euros to enter. I wish I had more time! The entire surrounding Jewish Quarter is full of charm, with narrow streets and a peaceful plaza perfect for wandering and taking photos. Great place to walk through when in Toledo!

We enjoyed our visit to the monastery and found it well worth the €4 pp. The audio guide was good, not too long at each point and with good information. Loved looking at the animals on the cloister columns. We spent about 45 min to an hour here.

The Monastery of San Juan de los Reyes is one of the most beautiful and peaceful places in Toledo. The architecture is breathtaking, especially the cloister with its detailed stone carvings and quiet garden. The mix of Gothic and Mudejar styles makes it truly unique. It’s not as crowded as other attractions, so you can take your time and really enjoy the atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit!

Absolutely gorgeous monastery! I especially loved the small garden in the courtyard. The attached cathedral is also huge and impressive....especially considering that Toledo isn't particularly big. We parked near Puerta del Sol, and so it was a further walk to get here than to many of the other sights, but this was my favorite stop. Highly recommended!

The Museo de El Greco, located in the historic Jewish Quarter of Toledo, beautifully showcases the artistic legacy of the master painter El Greco. The museum, established in 1911, features two buildings with a charming courtyard and garden that provide a tranquil setting for the displayed artworks. Visitors can explore not only El Greco's pieces but also 16th-17th century Spanish artworks.
Wandering through this museum felt like stepping into El Greco’s soul! The way his vibrant "Apostolate" and haunting "Tears of Saint Peter" leap off the canvas is unreal pure emotion frozen in time. Housed in a stunning 16th-century mansion, the place oozes history, with cozy courtyards and artifacts that make you feel like you’re peeking into Toledo’s past. Did you know El Greco wasn’t truly appreciated until the 19th century when French artists rediscovered his genius? Grab a ticket for just €3 (free for under 18s or on Saturdays after 2 PM and Sundays!). My advice: take your time strolling the Jewish Quarter to get here it’s half the charm. Don’t miss the nearby Santa Cruz Museum for more of El Greco’s brilliance!

As a Greek visiting Toledo for the first time it was simply impossible not to pay a visit at the magnificent Museo de El Greco, former house of painter Dominikos Theotokopoulos. The museum was beautifully and peacefully organized where each guest could both wander on their own or be a private of a private tour. Extremely clean and beautiful all around the rooms as well as the flower-filled gardens! Congratulations to the people attending it! Don’t miss it if you ever find yourself walking in the old capital of Spain, Toledo !

Nestled in the heart of Toledo, the Iglesia de Santo Tomé is a stunning 14th-century Catholic church that beautifully showcases a blend of architectural styles, including Gothic, Baroque, and Moorish influences. This remarkable structure features an impressive Mudejar tower built from remnants of an ancient mosque's minaret. Visitors are often drawn to its interior for its striking design elements and two ornate Baroque altars.
The Iglesia de Santo Tomé in Toledo Spain is a tiny church home to the incredible El Greco masterpiece, The Burial of the Count of Orgaz. The painting alone makes it worth the visit! Be prepared to move very slowly in a line through a tight space with lots of people. They crowd is guided forward every few minutes. Tickets are required at the entrance, not expensive. This is a quick but memorable stop! Pictures and videos are allowed. Greco has become one of my top ten favorite artists after visiting Spain!

The access was only to the hall with the El Greco’s masterpiece. There is one more painting there. There was no access to the church itself (I don’t know if it is the usual practice).
Yuliya D — Google review
Worth every cent to see this magnificent painting by El Greco! What more can I say? Pure magic standing in front of it and studying it in person! I would definitely recommend purchasing tickets on line and skipping the line to purchase tickets at the entrance.

This is a must see painting. Advice leave enough time to visit the church, a beautiful contemplative space. The gift shop sells a wonderful postcard to remind you of your visit much better than photos on our phones.

We were in Toledo in October 2025 and happened to walk by so we went in to see the El Greco. Amazing painting. If you're going to Toledo, you must see this one.
Tom Y — Google review
The painting by El Greco is amazing. Unfortunately we weren’t told that the church itself was closed. So rather expensive to see one painting for €4 when the El Greco museum is just down the road.

I visited the Iglesia de Santo Tomé in Toledo — such a beautiful old church! It’s famous for housing El Greco’s painting “The Burial of the Count of Orgaz.” The atmosphere inside is peaceful, and the art and stone architecture are just breathtaking. Definitely worth a visit if you love history or art.

Catedral Primada de Toledo

Catholic cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
Catedral Primada de Toledo is a Roman Catholic cathedral in the historic city of Toledo, Spain. The cathedral is an architectural marvel, incorporating Mudejar features and modeled after Bourges Cathedral. Perched on a hill surrounded by the River Tagus, Toledo is a city with a rich history as the seat of the Court of Charles and the ancient Visigothic capital.
If you're visiting Toledo, you absolutely must visit the Toledo Cathedral. This magnificent Gothic cathedral is a culmination of history and art, and its scale and beauty are overwhelming. The admission fee is typically around 10 euros per adult, but it is well worth the cost. Inside, you'll be greeted by the breathtaking sparkle of stained glass, intricate carvings, and a grand pipe organ. Particularly striking are the detailed retablo of the main altar and the carvings of the choir stalls. You can feel the craftsmanship and passion of the artisans embedded in every single decoration. Furthermore, the treasury houses numerous valuable artworks, including works by El Greco, which are worth taking your time to admire. Climbing the cathedral's bell tower offers a panoramic view of the labyrinthine streets of the Old Town and the stunning vista of the Alcázar in the distance. It is truly a symbol of the UNESCO World Heritage city of Toledo and a place where you can deeply feel the history of Three Cultures.

This Cathedral is a must when visiting Toledo. Do not let the outside deter you. It is magnificent inside. The architecture, the art, the grandness is astounding. Do not miss the Chapter House, the Sacristy and the crypt under the Altar. Definitely recommending purchasing timed tickets on line to skip the ticket queue. The visit is worth every euro spent.
Linda B — Google review
This beautiful cathedral with its extraordinary interior has a unique atmosphere of high spirituality. The two main altars are extraordinary. The entire interior is a space of spirituality and time enclosed in unique architectural sculptures and compositions, as well as sculptural and painting works. The beauty here is very rich and justified. This space is definitely worth seeing.
Wawrzyniec R — Google review
Amazingly beautiful. It's quite large and multifaceted. There is no written guide available, including none for purchase. Once you buy the ticket to go inside, your only option is to use a lot of data to download their app. The app is useful as it gives English and other language information on various parts of the cathedral but other parts of it have no explanation.
Bethany M — Google review
This building is a beautiful structure, which took over 200 years to complete. It is the highlight of any tour to Toledo. The interior is astonishing with incredible architecture and amazing sculptures. The organs require the sanctuary of the chapels. All of these are elaborate, beautiful and richly decorated. There is a golden and silver shrine in the shape of a church spire holding the holy host, which is just amazing in its beauty and intricacy. The hole that was made in one of the domes to illuminate the back of the altar, enabling light into the chamber, where the host is prepared is mind-boggling. There is an entry fee, but it’s worth the price of admission as this is one of the top five cathedrals in the Christian world.
G M — Google review
The Toledo Cathedral is one of the most stunning places I’ve ever visited. The architecture, paintings, and stained glass are incredible—every detail feels full of history and art. I especially loved the main altar and the peaceful atmosphere inside. The audio guide made it easy to explore at my own pace and learn interesting facts. A truly unforgettable experience in Toledo!

This is a must see if you go to Toledo. The Cathedral is astounding and magnificent. You have to buy a ticket in front the entrance, in a little shop. It's I'll made, as you present yourself to the first counter, just to be told, a little curtly, that the tickets are sold at the second counter. The first one being for buying trinkets. Plus the entrance is not the obvious one, the big steps that are first seen when you arrive on the plaza. It is on the right side of the Cathedral, and we learn this by walking all around the immense building. Take into account that you will need a good hour or more to really see all the nooks and cranies of the Cathedral, with all its beautiful art. Paintings, sculptures, bas-reliefs, gilded work, icons, stained glass, stonework, enluminures, etc... There are benches inside were you can pause, for people who need to rest.
Myamoto M — Google review
This cathedral was the highlight of our visit in Toledo. The classic entrance price is 12€ which is well worth it as I spent 45min inside. The stained glasses windows were beautiful, there are some very impressive statues. There were many people but the place is huge so it is not an issue.

Mirador del Valle is a stunning scenic overlook that offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city and its surroundings. Located on the Carretera de Circunvalacion, this lookout provides an unparalleled vantage point to admire Toledo's iconic landmarks, including the Alcazar, the Cathedral, and the historic walls. Visitors can also enjoy spectacular sunset views and witness the city illuminated by orange light at night. Additionally, there are dining options and a market nearby for a complete experience.
Majestic City steeped in history. I only spent a little over an hour here on our and I already want to come back and spend a day or 2 exploring the many sites and quaint shops.

Mirador del Valle in Toledo is absolutely breathtaking. Perched across the Tagus River, it offers a panoramic view of the historic city that feels almost surreal, golden stone buildings, cathedral spires, and ancient walls glowing in the sunlight or sparkling in the evening lights. The view alone is worth the trip to Toledo. I visited with my best friend, and it was one of the most memorable moments of our time in Spain. Standing there together, overlooking the old city, we felt the quiet beauty and deep history radiating from every corner. It’s a perfect spot for reflection, conversation, and capturing unforgettable photos. There’s a peacefulness at Mirador del Valle that allows you to pause and take it all in: the past, the present, and the joy of shared experiences. The site is accessible by car, or a scenic walk if you’re up for it. I highly recommend timing your visit around sunset for the most magical lighting. Whether you’re traveling solo or with someone close, this viewpoint is a must-see. It’s not just about the view, but the feeling you get while looking at it. For us, it was pure wonder -- an unforgettable highlight of our trip.

Amazing view point to have a lovely panoramic view of Toledo city and the Tagus river that flows around it. Toledo, Spain, an ancient city known for its historical, cultural, and architectural significance. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Parking available, so you don't have to walk. Popular place, lots of tourists and locals. Great place for photography. Level terrain. Free entry. Good wheelchair access.

The Mirador del Valle in Toledo, Spain, offers a breathtaking panoramic view that is nothing short of awe-inspiring. During our family visit in January 2024, we were captivated by the stunning vistas of the historic city, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The viewpoint, easily accessible, served as an ideal starting point for our walk around Toledo. The history of the city was palpable, with its blend of Christian, Islamic, and Jewish influences evident in the architecture. We took numerous photos, each one capturing the unique charm of the city from different angles. The Mirador del Valle not only provided a scenic backdrop but also served as a gateway to immerse ourselves in Toledo's rich cultural heritage. Our experience was made all the more enjoyable by the well-maintained facilities and the friendly locals. The visit was a highlight of our trip, offering a profound appreciation for the historical significance and natural beauty of Toledo. I wholeheartedly recommend a visit to the Mirador del Valle for anyone seeking a memorable and enriching experience.

Sights & Landmarks
Puerta del Sol is a medieval gate in Toledo's old town, dating back to the 14th century. It features an arched entryway and offers picturesque city views from the walking path next to it. The gate is adorned with a medallion depicting the city's patron saint and images of the sun and moon added in the 16th century, giving it its name.
The Puerta del Sol (Gate of the Sun) is a historic city gate in Toledo, Spain, built in the late 14th century by the Knights Hospitaller. Here are some interesting facts about it: Its name comes from the sun and moon that were once painted on either side of a medallion above the arch. The medallion still remains and depicts the ordination of Saint Ildephonsus, the patron saint of Toledo. The gate was built during the Christian reconquest of Spain from the Moors and was one of the main entrances to the walled city. While the gate itself is no longer there, the entrance remains an interesting piece of Toledo's history.

History Museums
The Army Museum, located in Toledo, Spain, is a national institution that offers a comprehensive insight into the history of the Spanish military. Housed within the impressive Alcazar castle, this museum showcases an extensive collection of armor, weapons, paintings, and other historical exhibits. Visitors can explore the museum's displays spanning from the Roman Empire to modern times. While currently undergoing renovations with limited access, it remains an intriguing destination for those interested in Spanish and military history.
We visited the Army Museum and Alcazar on the advice of a blog about a day trip to Toledo. We took the first Friday morning train in mid-March so we had time to get breakfast and walk up through the town before the museum opened right at 10. Because of minor renovations, part of the museum was closed and all entrances were free. We started at the foundations then went outside to see the tanks. Inside were exhibits about Spanish military from near-prehistoric times through reconquista, colonization, and modernity. Some great armor and artwork. The best part, of course, was the Alcazar itself. You have to walk outside, within the walls of the site, to go up an incline (it's Toledo) into the old royal fortress. See a lovely courtyard and great views.
Chelsea D — Google review
It was a shame that when I visited in August the military Museum was closed, but at least the entry fee was reduced. The ancient part of the Museum is interesting and I enjoyed going through the evolution of this fort. Hopefully, the Museum will be fully operative soon.
Francesco M — Google review
A lovely new museum of military history. Don’t expect to see much of the historic building. They preserved a few pieces of the old fortress but not enough to make it worth visiting for that. The map is good, make sure you follow it. If you happen to wander off of the prescribed path it can be very difficult to get back into the exhibition. There are many interesting items on display and they are well organized. They are all displayed in white display boxes with a small sign in the corner. You must follow the path through the white boxes as you cannot see anything other than what is directly in front of you and the back side of other while boxes. All indications that you are in a historic building are hidden There is one open area where the ancient foundations are visible which leads to the patio and garden where some larger items are displayed If you are a weapons buff or Spanish military supporter this is for you

The Army Museum in Toledo is a fascinating destination for history enthusiasts and anyone interested in military heritage. Located within the historic Alcázar of Toledo, the museum offers an impressive collection of artifacts and exhibits that span centuries of military history. The displays are well-organized and informative, covering various aspects of Spain's military past, from ancient times to modern conflicts. I particularly enjoyed the sections dedicated to 18 century. The museum's setting in the Alcázar adds to the experience, providing stunning views of Toledo and its surroundings. The building itself is a piece of history, adding an extra layer of depth to the visit. Overall, the Army Museum is a well-curated and educational experience that offers valuable insights into Spain's military history. It's definitely worth a visit if you're in Toledo!

Free on Wednesdays, when we visited. Pristine and interesting exhibits but the museum seemed disjointed to us. We had a difficult time following the themed paths. We wish it had been chronologically organized so a better view of Toledo’s history could be understood. It was difficult to follow and we missed understanding more about the Spanish Inquisition and the Franco regime. But cannot complain as it was free. Bathrooms abound and a lovely terrace to look over the city. Lockers available.
Linda B — Google review
Definitely worth the ticket price. This place is packed full of history which was a real treat. The whole family really enjoyed this place. It took us 3 hours to walk the whole place and check out all the beautiful things. The Staff here were pretty awesome and full of knowledge. We basically got a private tour just by asking questions as they were very forthcoming with information and behind the scenes knowledge. Overall if your looking for a great place to explore pick here

Samurai in Toledo: The Army Museum’s Identity Crisis Museo del Ejército, Toledo The Army Museum in Toledo begins not with banners waving or cannons booming, but with stone. You descend into the Alcázar’s underbelly and find yourself in the company of Romans: arches, walls, and foundations whispering in Latin. It feels less like a military museum and more like an archaeological dig, as if the whole fortress has been peeled back layer by layer to show its bones. Then the escalators arrive. Dozens of them. Long, gleaming flights carrying you up, down, sideways, through concrete and glass. By the time you’ve ridden what feels like forty-seven of them, you start to wonder if the escalators are the true exhibit, a kinetic sculpture of endless motion shuttling visitors through centuries. At the top of this electric pilgrimage, the small rooms appear. Collections of swords and spears line the walls, armor stands at attention, medals wink behind glass. The galleries are tight, almost modest compared to the vast foundation halls, but they hold their own charms. And then, without warning, you stumble on Japan: samurai armor lacquered like beetle shells, katana blades curved like crescents. No explanation, no apology, just another twist in the museum’s identity crisis. Step outside and the contradictions fall away. Toledo unfurls across the hills like a Renaissance painting, the Tagus River looping lazily below, rooftops glowing terracotta and gold. The view is not just terrific; it is the moment everything makes sense. Verdict: The Museo del Ejército is less about the Spanish Army than about the strange journey of history itself. First the Romans, then forty-seven escalators, then swords, samurai, and finally the view that conquers them.

At the beer festival in Madrid, no chance to try a beer. Pay and take your luck. Sorry, but this is not the form at a beer festival. I will not drink their beer again. Perhaps it is good, but if I can't try it how do I know? I would encourage this brewery not to attend future beer festivals as they clearly don't understand the culture of beer. The Soto Park in Mostoles, Spain, is a peaceful green space that offers a tranquil lake area where ducks and geese can be observed. It also features picnic tables and walking paths for visitors to enjoy. Located on the outskirts of Mostoles, next to the Iker Casillas Football Pitches, this urban park provides opportunities for running, walking, picnicking, and observing wildlife.
It is a nice park with lake and a river. Picking, doing sport, playing games, walks, sunbathing, anything you fancy. Very pretty place. May be some flowers would bring more colour. We need to protect it and keep it clean.

This “urban” park is located in the outskirts of Móstoles, Spain. It’s next to the Iker Casillas Football Pitches. It’s a wonderful park to go for a run, a walk, have a great picnic or just watch geese and ducks swim by. There is a lake in the middle of it and you can also find a stream that run through the park. This stream eventually joins the Guadarrama River about 3 km from El Soto Park. Recently, the Móstoles town council have pushed for and established “El Camino de Guadalupe” or the Guadalupe Way. It starts from the town center and there are several markers indicating the distance in KM to Guadalupe, Spain.
