Popular salt mine known for therapeutic cures for respiratory infections & chapel carved from salt.
Great for visiting and for health benefits this experience For kids and adults appropriate Lots of activities inside the mine You have to go down a few hundred stairs from the bus drop off to the mine Bus is available on the hour and half past . Tickets available from bus station Can pay cash or credit card
Billy B — Google review
Actually I think is a great place for kids, they have many activities for them, for adult not much to do, only walk around and go the church is there it's a mass. The line to buy a coffee was quite long and slowly, my daughter enjoyed playing some games. Obviously she had a lot of fun, entry was 50 Ron per adult 30 Ron per kid.

I love that there's so much to do underground in a salt mine!! We left Brasov at 9am, arrived about 11.30am. The main car park was full so we found another, 20 lei for the duration. Pay in advance but we agreed to pay on return as had no cash on us. We went to the ticket office and bought tickets. The toilets here were clean in case you needed them after a long drive. You then go on the bus to go down the mine. They cram the bus. The drive is 5 minutes odd. They drop you off and you go down further steps. You then enter the old salt mine. Inside there is so much - activity frames (go ape style), ping pong, arcades, swings, see saw for young kids, a coffee shop, souvenir shops, toilets, first aid and information kiosk. There were lots of people there but it didn't feel overwhelming. You can pay by card. We spent approximately 2.5 hours there. It was fun. Website isn't great, we thought the salt pools were there, but they're in another part of Praid.
Ayala S — Google review
The location is a great place to visit at least once. Now, there are some good things, but also things that are not so great. Good: There is a great place for climbing. There is a variety of tracks with different difficulty levels. There are places where you can play ping pong. Many swings for kids or families. A place with grains of salt instead of sand for kids to play. There are also some slides for kids Some places for souvenirs and some places to eat. The bad: There is a playground for kids with jettons. We tried to use an air hockey but it was a mess, the puck was not gliding as it was severely damaged and the table qas not pushing air through it's holes strong enough for it to glide, so it was a waisted time and money. Apart from this, you need to pay only with cash, and the only place that will take credit cards didn't work (last year, it had the same issue). I wonder why :-). They don't try to improve things. I've been here every year for the last 4-5 years, and each time, I like it less and less. When we were exiting the salt mine, we were always giving us a treat - usually Kürtőskalács. In these 4-5 years, the prices trippled, but we can't say the same thing about the prices, inflation, or fuel price. Also, the taste is not nearly as good as the ones from the Red Lake. So I would say expensive and below expectation. It's hard to find a place to park your car and is as expensive as in Bucharest, which again doesn't justify high prices. There's a ton of parking signs, but nobody will give you a receipt for overpriced parking. Again, wonder why? 25 lei for parking is a bit too much. If you are lucky, you can find a place at the main parking place with 5 lei per hour, though, again, it is still not a fair price. I'll probably have to skip this place next year. Nevertheless, if you haven't been here before, then go. Otherwise, I would reconsider. It could be one of the best salt mines in the country (probably it is the largest one), but without the right management, it will die soon, as probably the entire village, as probably tourism is their main source of income.
Palade M — Google review
The view from the observation post is spectacular! You can also find here a church, a restaurant, a small exhibit presenting the history of the salt mine and lots of fun places for children (adventure park, planetarium, swings, etc). There are also a lot of sitting areas to enjoy a cup of coffee and admire nature's underground beauty.
Crisstrix — Google review
30 lei / adult Be ready for a crazy ride with the bus inside the mountain! 🙈 Very nice place to relax and spend some time far away from the outer world. The most surprising thing was that you have 3G phone signal inside!!!
Ninjandy — Google review
The longest salt mine I have ever been! The bus took us from the ticket station ( price for adults is 50 lei) and drove around 2-3 minutes! The mine is perfect for people who have allergies( you can feel the air difference+the humidity which is 60% usually). Inside you can find a lot of recreational places, a church!!, restaurants, and swings! Worth a visit if you are nearby (or even far away!)
Gabriela — Google review
It is ok for a walk around it and a coffee at the bar, but not many things to do as an adult, except for the adventure park. As a kid there are plenty of activities.

Mocănița Sovata

Mentioned on

Tours
Sightseeing Tours
Mocănița Sovata offers a delightful journey back in time aboard a charming steam train that dates back to 1949. This historic locomotive operates on a scenic stretch of the former narrow gauge railway, which once connected Targu Mures and Praid. Although the line closed in 1997, it has been revived for tourism since 2011, allowing visitors to embark on an enchanting 14 km ride during the summer months.
This is a must do if you are in the area on the days it operates. (Friday-Sunday), three times daily. It is a magical journey through the woods and several valleys and bridges. On the way back, you might even be asked to sing a song! The staff were wonderful and accommodating. The steam locomotive was in great condition, and uniquely burns a mix of coal and wood. During the layover, the crew give can tours. At the end of the ride, I was even given a brief footplate ride back to the fueling depot in Sovata. Overall, a 11/10 experience. It's not too long, not to expensive, and a fabulous way to spend 2.5 hours or so. I've heard they sell out of tickets early but I was able to get two tickets on the 1700 train about 1630 with no issues, but this probably depends on how many people are visiting the region on a given day. I only wish there was a way to buy tickets online!
Brennan W — Google review
It was a nice experience to try because the view during the entire trip is lovely and they also provided a guide that told a story which made the trip a bit nicer. However, I think the ticket was overpriced (70 lei) for what it provided and you should also be prepared to inhale some smoke and for some small pieces of burning coal, ash and bugs flying around and landing on your clothes. :D
Lorena B — Google review
Very nice experience. The staff is friendly. I recommend going when it opens to buy tickets, there are 3 rides during the day, at 10, 13.30 and 17. It is recommended to be there 15 mijutes earlier. The ride takes about two hours round trip and it is indeed an awesome experience.
Mihaela A — Google review
while mainly an experience for children, this historic train line is a rare steam locomotive treat that's in very good operation and gives the rider a glimpse of life in the old days 100-200 years ago especially what is was like to ply through rugged terrain of the forest. the train route goes out one hour to the middle of nowhere for a short 20 minute break and watching the locomotive switch tracks to pull the passenger carriages from the other end which is an interesting operation. at this rural point, a few vendors set up stands selling corn & juice. (it's too bad there's not an old village or settlement here or somewhere along the route that would be more interesting as a stop over, there are no facilities until you get back to you Sovata).
Dusty — Google review
Nice experience, not to miss if you are in the surroundings. In the season tickets are selling fast, so it's better to come at the opening of the selling office.
Costin O — Google review
Very nice trip with the old train in an experience of 2 hours. The tickets sell fast so in the first part of morning must be bought for that day only. There are 3 rides per day (at least in the last year) at 11 am, at 14 pm and 17 pm. The price per ticket is 40 Ron. At the break point after 1 hours must be found some locals who sell their product there. I recommend this experience like many other you can make in Sovata! You can enjoy some feelings like you are in the fairy tails. Is wonderful.
Irina — Google review
For a complete marathon of Mocãnite you shoud definitely not miss this one: Sovata Mocanita. I arrived late and I took advantage of having the view only for myself :) Buy tickets directly there, the road trip last around 2 hours, and you got the change to see local villages and traditional houses. Enjoy the trip!
Gabriela — Google review
Lovely ride with the steam train, staff is very kind and helpful expecially Carmen who give us some good information abaut the steam train the history of it and the ride and quite entertaining as well. With time would be nice some more shadows and benches in the main station. Thanks guys for a lovely ride and probably see you next year!

Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Clock Tower, a 14th-century iconic landmark in Sighisoara, served as the main gate to the city's citadel and controlled the entrance to the half-mile-long defensive wall. It stored the town's treasures and is part of a collection of towers that fence the citadel. The tower stands near other notable structures like The House of Vlad Dracula and The Venetian House.
The Clock Tower is a very impressive structure of Sighișoara. Highly worth get there (it’s not that hard) and take a nice and easy tour. You can also climb to the Tower (we didn’t). While we were visiting, they had already prepare for Halloween, and it was so beautiful.
Nissim C — Google review
There's a small museum scattered through each level of the tower as you make your way to top the panoramic viewing platform. The platform gives you an unimpeded 360° view of the city. There's not a lot other than that. As well as the fact that nothing is translated through the museum, making it much harder to take an interest in the few items available for viewing. Despite what the signs say, the cost is 20lei to enter. I was in and out in less than 30 min.
Kyra — Google review
Student tickets for 5 lei is incredibly cheap, and the view was beautiful! Really neat seeing the clock mechanism and some historical artifacts on the way up. It got a bit tight in some places going up as people were also descending the same stairs, just watch your step.
Lia P — Google review
The Clock Tower is one of the only fully-visitable towers of the citadel. It's staircase and floors have been transformed into a small museum that houses exhibits from the medieval history of Sighișoara. The clock itself is still functioning and the bell sounds every 15 minutes.
Liviu-Cristian M — Google review
The castle district is huge and worth taking the time for long walks. Amazing views, buildings and architectural heritage. Spend af least a day here.
Levente C — Google review
Very beautiful landmark. Walking alongside this beautiful tower is a sight to behold. You can go up to get a great view of the city for really cheap.
Renata H — Google review
The day I visited the Clock Tower, the museum was closed. The architecture looked unique and stunning. Wherever you walked in the town, the tower was partially visible.

Vlad Dracul Restaurant

Restaurant
Vlad Dracul Restaurant, located in the historic Casa Vlad Dracul, is a must-visit for tourists eager to experience the birthplace of Vlad Dracula. Despite its fame, the restaurant offers high-quality traditional Romanian dishes that satisfy visitors' cravings. From tomato soup with croutons to beef goulash and cabbage rolls with minced meat, the menu showcases a wide variety of authentic flavors.
Surely touristic place. Having been for a weekend in Sighisoara couldn't have miss it. Reading so-so reviews didn't expect much from a good in the restaurant. But we were positively surprised. The goulash we ordered was very tasty. Definitely recommended. On the downside - "Dracula room" upstairs for an extra 15 lei/person is not worth it. Better not to go there, nothing to miss.
Andrew O — Google review
Delicious is a small word, incapable to express the taste, the flavour and the aspect of the dishes... And the cherry on top was that we could also bring our little wiener dog with us. And even better, the service was impecabile!
Claudia K — Google review
I’m a big fan of Vlad Țepeș so of course I had to come and eat at his house the food was delicious and I bought a souvenir pound of coffee I still don’t know if I’ll drink it.

very good service, delicious food, good flavors and a magical atmosphere of the time
Sebastian M — Google review
Great food! Awesome location to visit! Worth the time. After vusuting many locations this was the obvious location to stop and eat. The beef snitzel and Hungarian potatoes was great, and the Dracula's kiss, and papanasi which it was two big like donut filled with cream, delicious!
Elizabeth G — Google review
Trip advisor says it shuts at 23:00, Google says that it shuts at 22:00, the sign on the entrance door says that it shuts at 22:00. I was very rudely refused service at 21:15. Hence, I did not spend any of my money here during my three nights in Sighisoara. I should have heeded the advice of the ‘Rough Guide to Romania’ which comments that the restaurant is, “tacky, and not particularly good”. I can add that it is also unfriendly and that the staff are rude and lack any customer service skills
Brian R — Google review
The food was excellent, very authentic, and well-priced considering it was served in the most touristy location in the city. The server was attentive (compared to most servers in Romania) and I would have eaten there again, but I wanted to try as many different restaurants as possible. I would highly recommend the goulash (pictured in my pics) and the outdoor seating area, even though it’s not as scenic as in inside dining room. They have a bar inside as well as a souvenir area. The “room where Dracula was born” is one floor above the restaurant, and it’s a must-see if you’re in the city.
Travis M — Google review
Good food and service. Supposably the birthed place of Vlad the impaler and surely his father's (Vlad Dracul) house. It has a nice upper floor prepared dracula style. Definitely a landmark in Sighisoara, and the fact that the food is good is a welcomed bonus.

Spoonman's Shop

Mentioned on

Craft store
Museums
Art & Crafts is a souvenir shop in Romania that stands out from the rest due to its unique and tasteful offerings. The owner, a skilled craftsman with a passion for traditional Romanian symbolism, has created an oasis of good taste in Transylvanian crafts. Unlike other kitschy souvenir shops, this store offers handmade items from Sighisoara that are sure to impress.
Great little craftsmanship's shop in Sighisoara! I hesitated to come to Sighișoara, but when I saw that they had this little shop, I decided to go and I was very glad to. They have all kinds of objects, all handmade in Romania (either in the region or in other places). The man is of course known for his handmade spoons (most of them for decoration, but we can use the white ones in the kitchen), but they also have a lot of other objects including wooden egg cups, little handmade houses of the region and other regions (for decoration), wooden money boxes (most of them in the shape of cute animals), little handmade houses to put a candle in it, pottery (plates, bowls, cups, ...), little decorated signs for the house keys, religious paintings, etc. During my trip in Romania, this is the shop where I spent the most money, because they are the ones who have the most beautiful handmade objects ;) Best shop in Sighisoara and for me also of Romania (although I only went to four places/cities). If you are in the region, make sure that you go there and don't forget to check the opening hours before (very important!).
Céline — Google review
An absolute gem of a store with works from a world renowned artist. They always have some fantastic hand made items and beautiful drawings and other objects. The shop is small but it has a large number of items without being crowded.
Michael P — Google review
Fantastic shop in Sighişoara. Ceramics, wooden items, art. The craftsman was in the shop when we visited and was able to tell us about the items we purchased, which I love!
Karen W — Google review
Amazingly well crafted sculptures and paintings from local craftsmen. The owner happily shares the tales of the gallery's origins in Romanian, English, German and Dutch. You're able to buy the displayed tools and art pieces to a good price. Very professional presentation and a secret tip for travelled!
Stefan F — Google review
We were so happy we walked into this shop! Different local artists have their wares, ceramics, and crafts on display and the merchant kindly offered information about the different art styles and motifs. Definitely go visit!
Lia P — Google review
They should do something about the glass door at the entrance in the shop. This morning j bumped my head into it quite hard and i still have headaches.its 9 pm now. The girl at the counter inside the shop didnt even flinch to come and see if i was ok. She heard everything from inside but didnt say a word. What if the glass broke and i cut myself? What if another foreigner tourist would have harmed themselves in the door and would have made an official complaint about it? Or even sued the owner? I seriously damaged my wellbeing, due to the incompetence of the owner, staff for not marking that door. but i walked away instead. It should be marked with a caution advertisement, since its dangerous and future accidents may happen again
Andrada B — Google review
Most of the time when I see a souvenir shop (both in Romania and in Europe, too) I get an uneasy feeling of: brace yourself, kitsch is coming! Oh, but not here, not in this shop. The owner is a very talented craftsman, super passionate about Romanian traditional symbolism and this shop is an oasis of good taste Transylvanian crafts. You want a nice handmade item from Sighișoara? This is the place to get it.
Maria M — Google review
A wonderful trip into Romania’s craftsmanship tradition! Marc, Raluca and Noemi are so knowledgeable and very welcoming. I’m looking forward to my next visit to Sighisoara. Pity my luggage can’t fit this time everything I wanted to buy from them! Thank you for making this special little corner available to us!

The Covered Stairway

The Covered Stairway, also known as Scara Acoperita, is a historic and picturesque feature in the medieval town of Sighisoara, Romania. Dating back to 1642, this Gothic architectural marvel consists of timber steps sheltered by a vaulted roof. As visitors ascend the narrow and winding passage, they are protected from the elements while enjoying scenic views.
Such a nice experience to go up the Covered Staircase (Scara Acoperită), a wooden structure with 175 steps, that leads to the Church on the Hill and the old cemetery.
Lamis G — Google review
One of the main sightseeing spots in Sighișoara Citadel. Carries a history going back to 17th century, when it was constructed to protect pupils from adverse weather and not allow them get in visual contact with the cemetery.
Dimitris G — Google review
One of the most picturesque and unusual places in the Sighișoara citadel is the Wooden Stairs, also known as the Scholars’ Stairs. Built in the 17th century, these covered wooden steps were designed to help students reach the School on the Hill, especially during winter or bad weather. The atmosphere is truly special: the old, well-preserved wood makes you feel like you are stepping back in time. The climb, though it may seem challenging at first (over 170 steps), is an authentic experience that leads you to one of the most beautiful panoramic points in the city, right next to the Church on the Hill. For tourists, the Wooden Stairs are not just a practical pathway but also an attraction in their own right. They offer a glimpse into the medieval spirit of the citadel and into the daily life of its former inhabitants. The light filtering through the planks, the coolness of the wood, and the echo of footsteps on the stairs create a unique atmosphere. Tip: Take a few minutes to climb slowly, touch the wooden railings, and look back toward the citadel – you’ll be rewarded with a wonderful view. This is a must-see stop for anyone visiting Sighișoara. ⭐ My rating: 5/5 – A place full of history, charm, and medieval authenticity. And a place where you can take incredibile photos if you can wait for the perfect light!
DAN C — Google review
For the first time I counted 175 steps, and after that just have discovered that there are 176 . Interesting way of the locals, for hundreds of years, to protect their children, on winter or rainy weather , on their way to school. And professors, too.
Ibolya I — Google review
From what I understand the stairs and roof covering was built for the school children and possibly a dry walk up the hill during bad weather. The walk isn’t too difficult but depending on your physical condition. There are a few steps in need of repair so pay attention where you place your foot. The whole structure is wood so up keep is always an issue with woodworking. There is a Church at the top with a 10 lei entry fee. Also, a beautiful cemetery to explore and find secluded areas to relax.
Nick P — Google review
The Covered Stairway is one of Sibiu's true hidden gems. This beautiful passage isn't just a way to get from the Upper to the Lower Town—it's a journey through history. Walking down the cobblestone steps under the arched stone roof, you can truly feel the centuries of history in the walls around you. It’s an incredibly atmospheric and photogenic spot, connecting you to the heart of Sibiu's medieval past. The stairway is a must-see for anyone exploring the city. It's a peaceful and picturesque escape from the main squares and offers a unique perspective on the city's layout and fortifications. It’s an essential part of the Sibiu experience!
Gilad Y — Google review
Very nice but some steps need to be aligned. These stairs is actually a way to school, thus students need to climb every day up

Biserica din Deal, also known as the Church on the Hill or Sf. Nicolae, is a prominent landmark in Sighisoara that offers more than just religious significance. The Gothic architecture and guided tours provide insight into its historical and cultural importance. As a museum, it showcases valuable exhibits like 15th-century altar pieces and remarkably preserved murals dating back over 500 years.
Probably the most beautiful evangelical church in Sighisoara. The church is situated on the top of the Citadel Hill, standing there from the IV century. Inside there are some impressive paintings, restored in 2004. It's one of the must see objectives from Sighisoara
Gabi G — Google review
This beautiful church was my favorite stop on a whirlwind tour of Romania. Yes, it is a long walk up the covered stairs. The admission to the church is inexpensive, and when we went, the man and woman working there were wonderful and friendly. We were treated to an excellent presentation on the church's history and the area. There is so much rich history and they were able to provide so many details.
Marc C — Google review
The Church on the Hill is one of the largest Gothic churches in Transylvania and it's located on top of the highest hill in Sighișoara, at about 429 meters above sea level. The church can be visited for 15 RON (~€3) per person and the price includes a small printout that contains information about the church's history and most important exhibits that can be seen inside, including a small crypt.
Liviu-Cristian M — Google review
Unfortunately, the church was not as interesting as we expected. Like some other churches we’ve visited, the renovations have erased much of its historical character, leaving it looking more like an amusement park than a heritage site. The ladies at the ticket counter, who also hand out printed information, were unable to tell us where the memorial to the German soldiers (located next to the church) was — we had to find it ourselves. Overall, it didn’t meet our expectations. And to be honest, if you’re short on time and don’t want to tackle a long climb through a tunnel with many stairs — which is quite demanding even for a fit person — I would not recommend it.
Nina M — Google review
After you climb 170 stairs and get all hot, you can get inside and cool off😂 Inside it the temperature is lower than outside and feels nice. To get inside you pay a 10 Ron ticket. There are 2 persons responsible there, and they tell you stories about the paintings from the walls and legends related to it. Is very nice. You can also visit the crypt. There is an old coffin visible there. Worth a visit!
Andreea D — Google review
Well restored Lutheran Church (originally Western Christian / Catholic) with older medieval lower church serving as crypt. The personnel at the door was very helpful, an information sheet with several languages is available. Some frescos. Some of the wooden aktar panels (e.g St Martin) and the choir stools are quite beautiful. The acoustics is great (I was encouraged to sing from the altar...).

This was a beautiful gothic representation of the Saxon church. The surrounding are beautiful especially in the fall. The cemetery is just as interesting if not more so. I feel I spent more time walking through and enjoying the cemetery more than the church itself.
Chris R — Google review
Well worth the climb up 176 steps. The church is magnificent inside, and visiting the crypt is just creepy enough to send shivers down your spine. The guy collecting the entrance fee was very friendly and told me a little about the church. It was used the the saxon (German) residents in the area, but most of them have moved away for some reason, so today this lovely building rarely sees a service.

The Fortified Church of Biertan

Mentioned on
+9 other lists
Lutheran church
Sights & Landmarks
Nestled in the heart of Transylvania, the Fortified Church of Biertan is a stunning example of late Gothic architecture dating back to 1522. This UNESCO World Heritage site boasts impressive defensive walls and towers that once made it unconquerable. Inside, visitors can admire Renaissance art and an ornate sacristy lock with 15 bolts that can be simultaneously activated. The church also has a unique Prison Tower where couples seeking divorce were held for two weeks in an attempt to reconcile.
The fortified church is located in a traditional Transylvanian village, with an amazing view over the surrounding hills. The visit starts with a climb through the covered staircase. Once you reach the top of the stairs you can walk around the fortifications and the towers and also you can visit the church. Inside we found a lovely lady, which gave a very good overview of the history of this place and also she shared some interesting stories about it.
Viorel I — Google review
The church is on a hill with walls and tower. From the outside, it looks very modest. But from the inside you could see a beautiful altar, orgel and paintings. The ticket can be bought at the small bookshop at the entrance. Then, you climb the roofed stairs up to the church. The little infamous house for couples is located at the back of the church. The story goes, in the past couples before getting a divorce, would be "locked up" there, where they should spend time together in the small room. At some point, many of the couples were said to stay together.
Deepblue S — Google review
Amazing place. The walls around the church, the courtyard and the church is fascinating. Not to mentions the craftsmanship of the lock on one of the doors. The place is still waiting for a big renovation, but it's still well worth a visit.
Musulin P — Google review
It's nice, you can pay by card but the price is high considering what it offers.
Acoran R — Google review
Worth the trip! I visited the Biertan fortified church and was lucky enough to have the place almost to myself This 15th-century Transylvanian gem is perched on a hill, surrounded by not one, not two, but three defensive walls (clearly, they took "do not disturb" very seriously back then) Fun fact: they even had a "marital prison" to help couples reconcile 😂 Entrance Fee: 20 lei (updated 08.05.2025)

One of the most beautiful fortified churches in Transylvania, part of UNESCO world heritage. Tranquility, medieval atmosphere, wonderful view. Must visiting!

Zoo Tîrgu Mureș - Marosvásárhelyi Állatkert is a vast zoo with diverse animal exhibits, green spaces, and food options. It's an ideal spot for families visiting Targu Mures, offering entertainment for both kids and adults. With over 80 animal species to see, including birds and felines, the zoo provides an extensive area for leisurely walks. Ticket prices are reasonable, with special deals available for groups and families.
The zoo is the perfect spot to spend some time with the kids. The automated ticketing machines are easy to use and you can avoid spending time in queue. Also an app is available for tickets and information through the visit. The animals are looking good, and their areas provide plenty of space. The parking area could get crowded in weekends.

Such a fun place! The capybara stole the show 🥰. All the animals look happy, lots of space and shade, and plenty of stops for ice cream, waffles, and coffee. Perfect for families—don’t miss it!
Tanya B — Google review
I visited the Târgu Mureș Zoo with my family and we had an amazing experience. The zoo layout is perfect, well-organized, and has a wide variety of animals. It was my first time seeing lions, tigers, elephants, which was unforgettable. Unlike other zoos I’ve visited in the past that had very few animals, this one had plenty of animals with plenty to see. Tickets were approx $25 for 3 adults. Perfect deal for a tourist. A must visit for adults and kids!
Moharam I — Google review
We enjoyed our visit to the Zoo. Many of the enclosures are spacious and there are not many signs of distress amongst the animals. The bird enclosures were very small which is why I removed a star. Price wise, it is extremely good value.

**Great day out with the kids at Zoo Târgu Mureș!** We had a wonderful family visit to the zoo. The kids were absolutely thrilled to see so many different animals up close. The highlights included: 🦌 Bison - impressive and majestic 🐹 Capybara - the kids loved these gentle giants 🐪 Camel - always a favorite with children 🐅 Tiger - powerful and beautiful to watch 🦁 Lion - the king of the zoo! 🐘 Elephant - amazing to see such magnificent creatures 🦒 Giraffe - the kids were amazed by how tall they are The variety of animals made it an educational and exciting day for the whole family. Would definitely recommend for families with children!

Nice big zoo. The aninals have large cages, plenty of room. The bears are well taken care of and share a laaaaarge area with the wolves. Plenty of animals and you can put your small kid in a cart if it gets tired.
Alexandra C — Google review
Laying on a very large land close to the forest you can take a walk along and see many kind of animals. For some of them you can walk through them, of course without petting or disturbing them which is quite interesting feeling. Well done and taken care of Zoo, i recommend this place, it takes around 3 hours to visit, but it worths it.

Sights & Landmarks
Târgu Mureș Fortress is a well-preserved walled fort complex with origins dating back to the 15th century. Originally built as a castle in 1492, it underwent restoration in the 1960s to reclaim its initial form. The fortress features a church, barracks, and a grassy park within its walls. It now serves as a museum with exhibits on its history and that of the city.
Beautiful venue and amazing place to spend during a Sunday stroll.

That's a nice find. I was really impressed by the place. When we arrived, there was a flower festival with beautiful settings. Nice and warm people. The city center is clean and not crowded by the cars. I like it a lot.

Katalin S — Google review
A stunning fortress, beautifully restored and lovingly maintained by the locals. It has a charming interior garden and an impressive church. During our visit, there was a concert with guitarists performing, it was truly an amazing experience.
Blaga A — Google review
There is a small problem with the toilets in combination with ignorant people who do not "want" to know how to use them! Other than that you can have a nice walk in the middle of nature, surrounded by the silent and well- preserved ruins of the fortress there are many benches to seat on, or you can have a seat on the grass to watch the concerts that are held here. You can take the furry member of the family for a walk there, but only if kept on a leash and of course "please respect nature" or love it, therefore I kindly ask you to protect it!
Donna E — Google review
Beautiful place. We caught a dog show so I got pictures of cute puppers also!
Xaara N — Google review
It's a large fortress integrated into the city. It's in very good shape, but with the exception of 2 small museums and a couple of bars, there are little activities for tourists. The institution for marriages is here, so on a Saturday, you'll see lots of brides.
Andrei M — Google review
Visiting this place almost everyday As soon as you climb the stairs or enter through the food court wing you are greeted with a peace and quietness between these walls. Unreal, yet deep inside the central district. It's open from 9:00-21:00. Daytime / night time - anytime is a good time here. You can explore the ramparts and see the city from within them, chill on benches scattered throughout the fortress grounds and have a bite to eat at the tables in the food wing.

The regally decorated concert hall and display rooms showcasing local history and art are included in the entry price.
Beautiful building with interesting stories and legends. Impressive art collection with famous national pieces I did not expect to see there. Too bad they close so early on Sundays. I will come back to savor those works properly.

Must see if you're in town. The stained glass in the Hall of Mirrors is world-class and the rest of the building is great as well. The Romanian and Hungarian art galleries are well worth a visit (good art in both, but the Hungarian galleries in particular had a wonderful set of rooms), an interesting temporary exhibition when we visited and also a great room for children to interact with the art and create their own.

Beautiful Church that can be seen from far away. Definitely the main point of attraction in Medias. It is one of the eldest churches like this in Romania and full of history. Unfortunately, when we visited, it was closed for renovations, but you could see it's beautiful from the outside, and from photos taken in it on the internet, it would be worth visiting when it's open again. It was built during medieval times (14th century), and has many buildings. It is the main tourist attraction of the town of Aiud 👌🏽
Alex D — Google review
Quite scenic walled fort in the center of the town. Some of the buildings inside have been renovated and repurposed though. Unfortunately not too taken care of at the moment, and could be renovated - good to visit and see the imposing walls as a stop if driving through the area. No tickefs needed you can just walk in as it is living part of town.

Aiud Citadel (Cetatea Aiudului in Romanian) is located in the center of Aiud, and was built during medieval times (14th century), comprising many buildings. It is the main tourist attraction of Aiud. The citadel is fairly small, with a perimeter of 350 metres, and it is in the form of an irregular pentagon. The earliest documented evidence of the citadel extant today dates from 7 November 1293, a privilege issued by King Ladislaus IV - King of Hungary (1272–1290), but local tradition holds that the first stone watch tower was finished during the Mongol invasion of Europe in 1241. Other important events for the citadel: the serfs uprisings from 1437; the conquest of Michael the Brave; the Habsburg attack in 1704 and 1717; the Christian uprising - Religious war in 1758 - 1761; the peasant movement from 1784 and the Revolutionary wave of 1848 - 1849. Alex and Claudia are just awesome people, very happy, extremely helpful and very knowledgeable about their Romanian history 🤩 This was the most amazing adventure on a bike I have ever experienced and would highly recommend it to anyone who loves riding. Action packed from beginning to end with great bike rides mixed with cultural stops and great meals. We will definitely be back again to try some more of the many tours they offer.

Flew out to Romania from the UK for our friends wedding and he recommended these guys to rent some bikes off. Honestly Claudia (The manager) took great care of us and helped us plan out our 1000km route around centre Romania. It had to have been the best ride we have ever been on, I would HIGHLY recommend these guys to anyone looking to rent a bike. We will be using them again for our next trip. Again thank you for the bikes, the experience was a memory that will stay with us!

Myself, living in Ireland, and a friend from England, rented bikes for 4 days in late April. Arranging this was made very easy because of the professionalism of Claudia and Alex. They're very helpful , nice people and are a pleasure to deal with. We rented BMW 650gs bikes and they were clearly well maintained and were easy to ride for long periods, and the price was very reasonable. If you're thinking of riding in Romania, then I can't recommend it highly enough.

I would highly recommend. Not only were the bikes we used (3 x BMW GS650) in great condition and ideal for our trip, but the other bikes in the garage looked immaculate too. Add in the more personal touches (i.e being extremely well looked after from start to finish), and I was most impressed.

Salina Turda is a fascinating salt mine located in the Durgau-Valea Sarata area of Turda, Romania. Dating back to medieval times, it has been repurposed into an underground theme park with a mix of history and entertainment. Visitors can enter through an old entrance and walk along a long corridor leading to the main part of the mine.
Turda Salt Mine is absolutely amazing. The sheer size of the underground space is incredibly impressive. The scenery is truly unique — at least it was for me. Simply breathtaking. I do agree with other reviews that more information or explanations would enhance the experience, but overall, it's just an astonishing place.
T. M — Google review
Not as impressive as some other mines i've seen but the setup inside is quite unique and still worth a visit and a good short trip from Cluj. The lighting and the lake were unique aspects of this mine. I spent a total of 1.5 hrs in the mine at a relaxed pace it's enough to see everything. Easy directions from Cluj: Take the Fany bus from Pod Traian (search it in Maps). Buses depart thrice an hour and cost 14 lei. Upon reaching Turda you can walk 20 minutes to the old entrance (search Salina Turda old entrance on maps). Once you get into the mine from the old entrance note that there is a 8 minute walk through a long passageway to get to the central part of the mine. When returning from Turda to Cluj you can catch the Fany bus back at "Fany bus (Turda Centru)" in Google Maps. It's at the northern edge of Piata Republica.
Kevin A — Google review
This was my first mine experience, hence for me it was awesome and a must see experience in Romania! I recommend going on off season as it can get very crowded on summer. There is only one lift, then you can imagine the waiting time if you don’t want or can’t get the stairs.
Lilian R — Google review
Amazing place! We payed around 13€ and it was definitely worth it. A lot of places to sit and enjoy. There is a big line for the elevator up but the stairs aren’t that bad at all. The only problem is to get back to Turda without car, but there is a bus few times a day.
Lea T — Google review
Soooooo coooooool. I was skeptical at first but it really is a unique experience worth going to. If you’re not able to use stairs, be prepared to wait in longer lines for the elevators but I didn’t experience any wait for any stairs. The placards provided tons of great history but if you’re not into that, the pure awe of the open air subterranean mine is sure to intrigue your sensibilities nonetheless. There are plenty of activities for the little ones and I enjoyed the rowboats best. Free parking on the road before the entrance if you don’t mind walking about five minutes. Highly recommend visiting and then going into Turda for some food and shopping 🤗
Ben S — Google review
Definitely one of the most unusual attractions I’ve been to in Europe, Salina Turda is definitely worth a visit if you’re in the Cluj area. The site is an easy walk from Turda town centre, although it was raining when we visited so we took a cheap taxi (I believe there is a shuttle bus too). You have to walk down quite a lengthy walkway to get to the main chamber of the salt mine - bring some warm clothing with you because it’s quite chilly once you’re in there. The sheer scale and magnitude of the main chamber are quite overpowering and provide an atmosphere which is rather eerie and daunting. There are lifts down to the bottom, but stairs are also an option. Boats can be rented on the lake, for an additional cost.
William I — Google review
A unique and impressive underground attraction. Clean, therapeutic air, beautiful salt formations, a lot of stairs and fun activities like a Ferris wheel and boat rides. A must-see in Romania!
Burghelea O — Google review
Impressively large mine and well maintained for tourists. The photos and videos speak for themselves and this is worth a visit. We exited at the 'wrong' exit, at the end of the 750 meter tunnel and ended up on the other side of the village, which was a long walk back.

Cheile Turzii, a stunning natural reserve in Cluj County, is a must-visit for outdoor enthusiasts and families alike. This breathtaking gorge features well-marked trails that meander through lush landscapes, crossing charming streams and sturdy bridges. With its rich history dating back to the Roman Empire—evidenced by various artifacts—the area was designated as a Natural Reserve in 1938 and later recognized as a UNESCO natural monument.
Cheile Turzii Gorge is absolutely breathtaking! The hike alongside the river with the towering cliffs on either side was an unforgettable experience. I saw diverse bird species and the views were simply stunning. The trail was easy to follow, and the natural scenery was out of this world. Definitely a 5-star destination!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ An unforgettable experience at Cheile Turzii! The landscapes are breathtaking and the trails offer both adventure and peaceful moments in nature. We enjoyed tasty traditional food, especially the grilled mici, and relaxed on comfy chairs under umbrellas with stunning views around us. Friendly atmosphere and good services — I highly recommend visiting this place!

Great place to visit. Some parking place are cheaper than others. We found for 15 ley. The valley is amaizing. Many different lanes, but be carefull, not every lane are perfectly singed. There are even mosstakes, becouse they dont care this to much. Its free, so no care.

Beautiful hiking trail. I recommend using hiking gear if you plan going further and explore. You have plenty of spots where you can just sit and admire natura, besides other activities such as supervised rock climbing and cave finding(only small caves)

Went on a Monday, out of season, found the parking free. The place is amazing, I never imagined one day I will see something so beautiful. Worth the trip there. The entire gorge has spectacular views all along the path.

Historical landmark
Bánffy Castle, located in the commune of Bonida, Cluj County, has been in the possession of the Bánffy family since 1387. The current palace showcases a blend of architectural styles from different periods. Despite its state of decay, dating back to the 1400s, it is unique due to its combination of Transylvanian Renaissance, Baroque, and romantic influences.
The place is definitely advised for visiting. The building is in pretty good shape, even though they're doing some renovations right now. The area is quite large, with a pond and places to relax outdoors. There's also an indoor cafe where you can buy ice cream, coffee, and other things. They really take care of the grounds here. At the entrance, there's a ticket office where you can buy tickets and explore the building. You can also go inside to see some interesting historical exhibits.
Oleg V — Google review
A beautiful castle that lasted centuries only to be left to rot by the Communists and be left to crumble. 50 years of comunism turned this gorgeous castle into crumble. It is now being renovated now, thanks to European funds. ❤️ 🙏
M. R — Google review
Another castle of Banffy family. It's partially renewed after having been left abandoned. It's a jewelry and the municipality should find the funds to completely renew it as a historical monument. It's worth a visit, you can walk through the park, and find out about this noble family who lived there during the past centuries.

This stunning complex is getting little by little uplifted and brought back to life thanks to Electric Castle festival. If you like electro and dance music, check it out, or, simply pop by and pay a visit, as even though it has a long way to go, it is still soooooo impressive
Doru C — Google review
A little underwhelming, probably because it's being renovated at the moment. The history ilof the place is wonderful, but it's kinda lost. Hopefully they will be able to restore it to it's former glory!
Lucian C — Google review
For 5 days a year it is the venue for Electric Castle but for the rest of the year it's a very quiet escape from the city. 10 lei (~2€) entrance fee and you can read materials about the history of the place all around the castle and the yard. Partially refurbished but it's an ongoing process. Great work so far

The "Lucian Blaga" National Theatre in Cluj is a stunning architectural gem with its Neo-baroque style and grandeur, making it a standout in the cityscape. The building offers a bohemian atmosphere inside and is adorned with beautiful Christmas decorations. While the uncomfortable seating may be a downside, the theater hosts varied shows throughout the year, featuring talented actors performing both international and Romanian plays.
A wonderful building with a fantastic architecture. It is one of Cluj's architectural gems. I went many times to the theatre and to the opera and I loved every experience. The actirs are great and the plays are well written. I always feel like in a fairytale when I am inside. It would be great if funds are found in order to renovate it.
Ana M — Google review
My partner and I attended a performance at the Lucian Blaga National Theatre, and it was a remarkable evening. The building itself is a beautiful example of neo-baroque architecture, giving the event a grand and historic feel. Many visitors praise the quality of the performances and the professionalism of the staff. The theater is a cultural landmark in Cluj and hosts a variety of plays and operas throughout the year. I felt immersed in both the artistic atmosphere and the rich history surrounding the venue. The acoustics were excellent, and the stage design really enhanced the storytelling. Whether you are a theatre lover or just looking for a unique night out, this venue offers a chance to experience Romanian culture at its finest. It’s also very centrally located, so you can easily combine it with a dinner nearby.

[EN] The building has a pleasant Neo-baroque style architecture, being built/completed in 1904. The inside though is looks stunning, offering thus a bohemian/exquisite air to all the atmosphere and the Christmas decorations are really gorgeous. Unfortunately the chairs are really uncomfortable, plus bad luck if someone really tall sits in front of you! The National Theater has a all year round varied shows (with a short summer break). The performances are good to very good, with talented actors starring in both internationally and Romanian plays. The sound is pretty good. The staff usually is a bit bored and unfortunately they won't take your coat if it doesn't have a hanger, neither your backpack will be taken unless you strongly ask to be put on your own responsibility somewhere down!!

Right in the center of the city, the National Theater offers all year round (with a short summer break) a variety of shows. I have seen very good performances with the talented actors starring in both internationally and Romanian plays. Also, the building itself looks stunning after renovation and the Christmas decorations are really beautiful.

Teatrul Național Lucian Blaga from Cluj-Napoca, Romania is one of the most prestigious theatrical institutions in Romania. The theatre shares the same building with the Romanian Opera. I've seen opera, theater and amazing shows like Balet on Ice from Saint Petersburg here. Very nice design and cozy place.
KriSZ — Google review
The three star rating is for the venue itself. The shows and concerts I've seen here were all 4 to 5 star material, but the theater is in desperate need of a renovation and many of the seats are very unconfortable. Tip: whatever you do, do not choose the seats at the balcony unless you are a very small person. :)

The Alexandru Borza Botanical Garden, part of Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, is a sprawling 14-hectare masterpiece founded in 1920 by Professor Alexandru Borza. This historical monument houses over 10,000 plant species from around the world, organized into distinct sectors like ornamental, phytogeographical, systematic, economic, and medicinal. The garden's rich history and architectural allure make it an enchanting oasis for relaxation and exploration.
Beautiful botanical garden, plenty of things to see and really big. There are huge exotic plants in the greenhouse and the atmosphere near the little river is amazing and calming. The price is fantastic , mostly for students and kids. My inly critique is that there are a couple broken bridges and wooden structures that should be repaired and fixed up. But still a great place, one could easily spend two hours here, even half a day if someone wants to study or relax in a calming environment.

Amazing! An impressive and peaceful place where nature, history, and science come together. The garden covers about 14 hectares and includes over 10,000 plant species from around the world. Highlights include the beautiful Japanese Garden, the Roman Garden with ancient artifacts, and the tropical greenhouses filled with exotic plants. There’s also a tower offering a panoramic view. Well-organized, educational, and relaxing — definitely worth a visit if you’re in the city!

Calm & nice place to visit for a reasonable price. Huge collection of different species. Most ways are easy to walk, but not always wheelchair/ stroller friendly. Must check timings and dates beforehand in order to be able to visit the glasshouse too! Check the website in advance, contains all useful info. Toilets: could be more/ at frequented places. Definitely worths a visit.

The imposing stone and bronze Matthias Corvinus Statue, erected in 1902, is a must-see attraction around Christmas time. Visitors can enjoy the festive atmosphere with Christmas music, brightly lit wooden storefronts selling handmade goods, hot chocolate and tea, a carousel ride amidst historic buildings and monuments. The aroma of hot chimney cakes cooking over a fire adds to the magical ambiance along with the sound of people laughing on the outdoor skating rink.
A must see when you are in Cluj Napoca. The monument is impressive by size, but when you get the cathedral in the background it gets to be even more impressive.

The city is part of the hungarian and romanian common history. Both of the nation can be proud of the architecture, the universities culture and the mostly youth population how is eager to add more and more to this town. The only downside I have experienced was the traffic and parking situation. Other than that I trully recommend to spend some time here.

An absolute gorgeous are to visit around Christmas time. Christmas music playing, little wooden lodes ( store fronts) all lit up selling hand made goods, mugs of hot chocolate and tea, a carousal, Historic buildings and Monuments, hot chimney cakes (hollow cakes covered in cinnamon sugar, cooked over a fire), and the sound of people laughing on the outdoor skating rink. When we went in 2014 Coca Cola and Santa Clause also happened to be there. Literally the most perfect "hallmark Christmas" you can imagine.

If you are in Cluj, take break to visit this place Mathias Rex, beautiful architecture behind the church. You will also find good restaurants near the monument. Take a break and have a visit to Mathias Rex. The church is guarded by a statue of Matias Corvin, a prominent ruler of the Hungarian Kingdom.
Beautiful church, the main square for tourists Lots of attractions nearby

The construction of this superb church was begun probably in 1316, financed partly by the citizens, partly from the income of indulgences. The first related document, dating back to 1349 and signed by the archbishop of Avignon and fifteen other bishops, grants the indulgence for those contributing to the illumination and furniture of the Saint Michael Church. The construction was completed between 1442 and 1447, the old tower being built between 1511 and 1545. It is really a sight to see!

A nice, peaceful and holy place. It is very peaceful inside. I like the structure and the detailed walls. If you visit Cluj this is one of the places where you must go!
Forarzo — Google review
Usually I find it strange to review a church, because it is the house of God and I go there mostly for praying. However, this is filled with history, I'm sure I didn't hear all of it, but I will share with you what I know. The ornaments from the entrance which sustain the vessels with the holy water are actually rose stumps from 700 years ago. One has an acorn carved at the top (right) and the other has a bird without its beak unfortunately and a squirrel. Jesus Christ on a cross when you enter on the left it's also a representation since 700 years ago along with the paintings - what could be saved of them on the walls of the church. The trees with the red fruits in the garden of the church are old almonds. Also, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday you can visit the tower, entrance free. As I know from a friend, some years ago you could've gone higher than the tower bell, but now we stopped at it's level. It's a splendid view which made me dizzy, especially when looking at the abrupt roof top of the church. It was worth every second there, even for prayer. There were monks (I think) there singing acapella. It was a reverent space they created through their voice and soul-uplifting. Thank you!

During my visit last week, there were some events (live music, DJ) happening near the fountain. It was amazing vibe. It was a lovely park, very clean and very green. There were water drinking fountains, outdoor exercise equipment available. People could hire pedal boards. Additionally, there were plenty of seats available. It was a surprise to see people hanging hammocks on the trees and relaxing in them. Trees looked sturdy enough to hold the extra weight. This park is great for exercising or going for a walk, relaxing alone or with friends and family.

Nice park to get a city view.it is better to go during evening time.. Lots of stair to climb..If you follow the Google map is the wrong destination to see the city view. After you have come out from the small little tunnel you can immediately turn left and you will see the cross. If not before you reach the small tunnel there is a turn (small shop which I think is no longer in operation) which directly bring you to the lookout..

Amazing views from up the hill. Be careful to take the concrete stairs if you are not resistent or if you want a more "civilised" outcome, the back stairs that are right near the bridge over the Someș canal are kind of a hike, not gonna lie, especially during the hot summer and when it's slippery and muddy in winter. Otherwise, enjoy!
