Val Thorens is a ski resort located in Europe, established in 1971. It sits at the highest altitude and offers top-notch ski slopes, terrain parks and modern lifts. The town is considered as the hub of skiing in Europe, with a variety of ski runs that cater to different preferences. Visitors can choose their speed, turns and scenic view before hopping on one of the high-tech lifts available.
This ski resort had so much to enjoy from a skiing perspective and a general good time. There are lots of different runs, ski schools and places to eat on the beautiful mountains. I was unlucky enough to require medical assistance but even that didn’t disappoint, everyone was super great and very friendly.
Siobhan B — Google review
Amazing ski destination – whatever you’re looking for, you’ll find it here! From easy, chill slopes to wild, uneven runs. The views of the surrounding mountains are absolutely stunning, and the snow conditions are excellent. I did miss having more trees around, as the landscape is very open and a bit desolate – though some people might actually prefer that. If you’re into partying, the town has some great spots – especially if you’re Danish! Just head to Café Snesko – you’re going to love it.
Thomas G — Google review
A very good ski resort. From beginners to advanced skiers, you can find good trails that will suit you. Also a very nice apres ski. Lots of hotels offers ski-in ski-out. Val thorens offers ski options when other ski resorts are already closed for the season.
Sigal S — Google review
Val Thorens has a great vibe, there are lots of amazing hotels and bars/restaurants. Shopping is easy with lots of convenience stores and also lots of specialist winter sports stores for all your skiing and snowboarding needs; though be prepared to pay a small (5-10% in my experience) resort premium on purchases here versus high street prices. Internet shopping is clearly the best option before arriving to make sure you get the best prices on equipment. Aside from the great bars and eateries, Val Thorens also has one or two slopes that you can ski and board on. Being a part of 3 Valleys it's a part of the largest ski resort in the world with hundreds of kilometers of groomed slopes. I love the ease of navigating around the resort using the many many lifts. There are runs for all levels, though if you're a complete beginner you may lack variety as there are relatively few green runs compared to other resorts. That being said, there are plenty of blues that are very manageable for beginners. Being at altitude I've found the snow quality and quantity to be better than other resorts in the area, including the 3 Valleys resorts of Courchevel and Meribel. Being lower they can often suffer with either slushy or icy conditions much more so that Val Thorens seems to. Final observation is that Val Thorens is an all ages resort. It doesn't matter if you're a family, young, old, or anywhere in between, Val Thorens has something for everyone, and all coexist peacefully.

The Perfect Destination for Skiing and Relaxation I recently visited this mountain, and I can confidently say it’s a paradise for ski and nature lovers! The area boasts an impressive number of ski slopes, suitable for all levels – from beginners to advanced skiers. The slopes are wide, well-maintained, and offer a safe skiing experience, making every moment on the mountain truly enjoyable. They are impeccably groomed daily, and the snow quality is excellent, no matter the weather. Beyond the slopes, the resort features cozy relaxation areas. The comfortable cabins, cafés with breathtaking views, and heated terraces provide the perfect spot to unwind between ski sessions. Whether you’re passionate about winter sports or just looking for a peaceful retreat in nature, this destination offers the perfect combination of adventure and relaxation. I highly recommend it!

Val Thorens – Where the mountains are majestic and the buildings… aren’t Let’s be honest: Val Thorens is like dating someone with a stunning personality and a questionable wardrobe. The mountains? Absolutely breathtaking. Snow-draped peaks, endless ski runs, and views that make you forget your Wi-Fi password. Nature here is working overtime. And then… there’s the village. The buildings? Imagine 1970s concrete met a ski resort brochure and said, “Let’s do brutalism, but make it beige.” It’s like someone tried to stack shoeboxes in a snowstorm and called it urban planning. Charming? Not exactly. Functional? Sure. Photogenic? Only if you crop aggressively. But hey – you’re not here for the architecture. You’re here to ski, après-ski, and maybe pretend you’re in a Bond film while sipping overpriced vin chaud. And for that, Val Thorens delivers. Just don’t look too hard at the hotel façade on your way down the slope.
Steve M — Google review
Great skiing area. Really enjoyed it. Not pretty in the villages but well makes up for that with the slopes.
Michael D — Google review
At 2350m, snow is not yet an issue. The station is geared towards skiing and cater mainly to an international clientele. British and Dutch mainly. It has the trappings of a small French town with fresh breads, some cafes for drinks and meals but remains a very touristic area. Perfect for skiing. Going to the piste is relatively easy.

Spas
Grand Hotel Besson is an upscale mountain hotel offering a rustic-chic bar, spa, and complimentary breakfast. Guests have praised the hotel for its skiing facilities, room service, fitness center, and restaurant. The staff's exceptional service has been highlighted by many visitors who also appreciated the arrangements made for medical assistance when needed. Additionally, the hotel features a pleasant pool and sauna area. Its spa services have received high recommendations from guests for providing an enjoyable experience with friendly staff.
Not only is the hotel a nice place to relax, with good food but the staff were amazing and very kind. I was taken ill whilst skiing and they arranged a doctor without fuss. Can't recommend it enough.
Ed S — Google review
On the positive side the Grand Hotel Besson has a very nice bar with great alpine views. The mattresses and bed linen was also good quality and notwithstanding delivery issues our food was excellent. Mattresses aside the hotel however had a low standard of accommodation for a 4* rating and price. This included poor noise insulation, outdated bathrooms in need of renovation, no hotel or guest info in room and no personal tea/ coffee making equipment. We also had disturbed sleep until late on three nights due to DJ/ disco including ‪one night until 3:00 am‬ (and our room was relatively far away from the  music). With some notable exceptions in addition there was a generally low level of service for a 4* hotel at this price. This included waiting 45 minutes for food one night, our first three choices of wine not being available and the bar area being completely reserved with no seating for half board guests on 2 nights without being told in advance. Finally we were overcharged extras by over €100 euros at checkout. In summary I’d say it is a hotel with a 4* bar and restaurant supported by at best 3* accommodation and service with some issues we wouldn’t expect in any hotel. Given the above sadly we would not recommend the hotel to others for the price.
R P — Google review
Very nice pool and sauna. Recomend for evryone that will go to Sauze d'Oulx to go there even if you are not stayimg in hotel.

Great little place, lovely picturesque village, hotel close to centre.
Declan D — Google review
Fabulous place to stay, Great Staff, Brilliant Service
Conor R — Google review
The hotel is four star... What a joke, three stars and that's at best. The good: excellent position, nice(ish) bar area, some good staff. The bad: hotel is very very tired, the breakfast is terrible, the breakfast manager is aggressive, the showers are so small you can't pick up the soap if you drop it, yet the bathrooms are big! As I said, should be downgraded to a three star, if not a two.

Beautifull place, perfect for campers with a lott of camp spots all around.

A stunning French/Italian mountain pass with views to die for on the Italian side. The huge reservoir at the top is crystal clear and fed by several cascading mountain streams. Apart from the wonderful natural scenery there are also some marvellous buildings, old and new, including the wooden church.
Peter T — Google review
Very beautiful road! Altitude 2085 m. The term "Mont Cenis" could be derived from mont des cendres ("mountain of ashes"). According to tradition, following a forest fire, a great quantity of ashes accumulated on the ground, thus the name. The path of ashes was found during the building work of the route.
Kestutis V — Google review

The Tibetan Bridge

Sights & Landmarks
Bridges
The world's longest, this Tibetan bridge is suspended high in the air amid a scenic mountain valley.
Fantastic! First of all, the gorge is beautiful, and even more from above. There is a short walk to the first bridge, where the guide takes the coupon and shows you in. The bridge felt very safe and stable (as much as a suspension bridge can...). Adrenaline is there all the time, but even a height-phobic like me gets used to it and steps up. My 8-year-old did it smoothly, but I needed to help him with the carabiners, because the safety cable is high. Price is reasonable, surely recommend
Yuval M — Google review
Great fun and best value for money I have experienced for a long time. Sure you should not be afraid of hights 😉. The via Ferrata was my personal challenge but manageable. Sometimes I felt a little extra leg length would have been helpful ( I am 1.63m) but the last leg was rewarding and much easier than the entrance. However the judgement of a ferrata can be quite personal. I would definitely do it again 😁. Nice and friendly staff.
Sandra S — Google review
An amazing experience. We went to Italy for 6 days just to walk the bridge and believe it was worthwhile .The staff were very friendly and helpful. And the bridge itself was very well looked after and felt safe. The views when you walk on the bridge are amazing. Not the sunniest day, but did not distract from the great views. The whole experience is fantastic. Fully recommend it.
Rudit B — Google review
This place is quite far away from anyplace and one might pay more for road and tunnel tolls than for the attraction itself but the experience is worth the trouble, just to tick it off the bucket list. Briançon town with its vauban made a good base to be able to reach here early in the day ( they open at 9 am) and Frejus tunnel had no delays at noon to go through after finishing up at the Ponte Tibetano. Coming after 10 am may resulting waiting for long queues of people to pass in front diminishing the view and the enjoyment. The promotional video on the website does not show the slopy loose gravel paths that one has to walk through to reach the bridges. Good hiking shoes recommended. There is a safety briefing at the beginning and one gets to practice how to clip and unclip the double harness to the metal ropes . Minimum height of 120 cm to go on the bridges but preferably over 140 cm to go on the via ferrata which looked indeed tough and we couldnt do as our child was only 130 cm. In any case not suited for anyone with fear of heights or those with balance issues. Clean toilets available near the ticket/reception counter for use at beginning or end of the walk. Large free parking. And the gorge is beautiful and relatively cool even in hot weather.
Krithika M — Google review
Great introduction to via ferratta! Very friendly and helpful lstaff we had a fantastic time.
Samuel P — Google review
Such a great experience!! At first it seems a bit scary because of the hight but you get used to it in time. The best part is the climbing of the wall. Had so much fun and bested my fear of hights.
Eduard B — Google review
un esperienza meravigliosa! impegnativo ma bellissimo è fattibile per molti grazie alle precauzioni e alle misure di sicurezza! Awsome experience! Challenging, but not too difficult. I think many people can do it, also because of the high safety precautions it is not dangerous at all... if you don't suffer heights.
Bogdan A — Google review
Enjoyed the view while crossing the hanging bridge(s). Too bad we couldn't climb the walls as the weather was bad also going down was a little bit dangerous as the mountain is a little steep. All in all it was a nice experience!

Beautiful backdrop for an amazing international Jazz concert with the European Jazz Companions! What à day 🥰 I'll be back soon to visit the rest of the fortifications !
Richard F — Google review
Fantastic fortress built by Vauban from 1693, one of the 12 major Vauban sites listed in 2008 as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Behind his pink marble walls, we can see the barracks where the soldiers of Louis XIV lived, the scalable on the pic where they watched, the powder maker, the arsenal where they kept weapons and powder. It is also also an unusual village where 170 inhabitants live, like everyone else, but in an extraordinary setting of southern sun, dazzling snow, silence and stones steeped in history. From the rampart, observe the strategic node of valleys : the Mountains of Queyras with a thousand hikes, the ski resorts of Vars and Risoul, the glaciers of the 4,000m of the Ecrins massif !

So much to see, an incredible fortified town overlooking some great scenery. Friendly staff and plenty to eat/drink in picturesque streets.
Harry C — Google review
Looks amazing but never got in as I ran out of time sussing the place out. What you need to know. There are two parking areas. 1 at the bottom of a hill with a steep climb to the village (round trip 1.25 hrs) the other is at the top with about 10 mins flat walk to the entry point. Neither are well signed from the road. Refer to Google maps for better guidance before setting off.
John P — Google review
A beautiful historic town with stunning scenery, lots to see and do. The fortifications, ramparts, church, main street, and cheese making were impressive, and fascinating.
Geoff D — Google review
Interesting historic place. Worth visiting. Great location
Alina M — Google review
A bit disappointed, since the reviews were good and the site looks very pretty from a distance. Arrived on Sept 2, on a warm sunny day, in time for a guided tour, but that was unfortunately only in French. You would not expect this at a Unesco site. Lots of signing about craft shops but absolutely nothing was open. I guess they're not interested in sharing it with the public. Very little places to eat, just a few places where you could get some ice cream. Overall, unwelcoming and underwhelming.

Great service from Mr. Fabien ARNAUD! He helped us to find the accommodation, answered all our questions a.s.a.p. and provided us with confidence that, once there, we will be able to ask for and receive assistance if needed. Amazing breathtaking scenery...

It's a great ski area. Plenty of runs, across the full spectrum of difficulty and terrain, served by a good lift system. The people are friendly, the mountains are high and the food is good.

Wonderful place to go for winter sports! If the weather is good then you can take the télésiège to the top of Serre Chevalier where you can get some amazing pictures. However if the weather is bad, there are many local activities to take part in. In terms of restaurants, there is a large selection of local restaurants from pizzarias to crêperies. At the bottom of the Villeneuve slope there is also an amazing Après-ski restaurant with kind staff members who tell funny jokes! 5 stars from me. Joyeux 80 ans !

MUST SEE!!! What a wonderful lake here. I came here twice. The second time was in Fall season. Wowww the landscape was amazing with beautiful color. There is a story about this lake I would like to share. Long time ago, when the local farms were dry, people out of water. They decided to made the way for the water go through from the Alps to all the local farms there. And on it's way there was a village. People left their village to let the water go through. This exhilarating adventure includes bob rafting, speed luge, bob racing, and guided high-speed runs. Descending the track in under 2 minutes is an amazing feat, whether you choose to ride in a padded tub-like bobraft or try the adrenaline-pumping speed luge. The affordable prices make it accessible for everyone to enjoy these mind-blowing rides.
The bob racing option (the one in a real bobsled with a pilot) is a must do if you're ever in La Plagne, and even if you're not, you just have to come here and experience it. Easily one of the most exciting things I've done in my life, you just don't know what's coming in every turn, the ride is rougher than seen in the Olympics and the down pressure you feel when turning is incredible. SPOILER: at one point you'll feel like you're almost upside down :)

Great experience. Very exciting ride, you just do not know what is coming around the next turn. The ride is rougher and the pressure you feel on the turns is incredible. A great activity at the Olympic venue. It reaches an average speed of 80 km per hour and the ride takes just under two minutes. At the end it is possible to purchase the video - 29€. If you are nearby, do not miss it.

Great experience the staff were also really good I had someone not able to come and they offered a refund if I had a medical cert . Fantastic service..... Sometimes there can be a little wait at the end waiting for a lift up but drastic

Amazing, proper bucket list item ticked off my list. I first saw this in the mid 90's but was too late in the season to do it then. It's taken me this long to get back here and I wasn't disappointed. Would do it again in a heartbeat! Worth every penny!

Had an awesome experience doing the bobsleigh run. We managed to forget our bag afterwards, but Amandie (we think that’s her name) went above and beyond with her service, dropping it off on her way home to us. Thank you!

Reservations are just an approximation, they don't honor them. They are very poorly organized. Expect delays and sub-par customer service treatment :/ The ride itself is interesting-to-exciting, but very short. However when you get treated so poorly in the beginning it spoils the entire thing. If you choose to go, I'd recommend lowering your expectations and assume you'll wait at least 30-45" past your reservation time.

I would like to thank all the Oxygene ski shop Team & also the Instructors for there efficient, friendly service that me & my family had over this Christmas period. Not only did we get fantastic ski & snowboard equipment but my wife & son also had several days of group ski & snowboard classes which they loved 👏🏼 Oxygene is for sure the best in La Plagne & now in a lot of other resorts across France. I recommend also trying the Electric Snow Bikes as I went with my son & the tour was a blast & the guide was super friendly & Profesional. Once again thanks to Oxygene Ski Snowboard bike for a great vacation 🤝 100% Recomended 🤙

Amazing Ski School! Our family have had the best experience with Oxygene. Christelle taught our daughter to ski at 2 years old with both group and private lessons, Now she skis confidently on the blues at 3 years old. Christelle and lea make the ski lessons fun whilst prioritising safety. I had a adult private lesson with Morgan too which helped me rectify a few bad habits. 👏👍🏻

My daughter had 6 private lessons with Guillaume and it did not disappoint. The improvement and progression for her was remarkable with the 1-2-1 coaching. So much so we have booked the same again in April to continue her coaching with the same instructor

I took private lessons with Oxygen and it went very well! Big thank you to the instructor Alex, he helped to increase my confidence in skiing, as I am a beginner. It was the first time for me to go all the way down from the top of the mountain, amazing experience! As a big advantage was the free shuttle from Aime 2000 to the school.

I went skiing for the first time last week so joined the discovery group for 6 lessons. We had a fantastic experience with our ski instructor, François! He was incredibly patient and took the time to explain everything clearly, making sure both myself and my partner felt comfortable every step of the way. His friendly and encouraging approach made the lessons enjoyable, and we both made great progress. Highly recommend François for anyone looking to improve their skiing skills!

My children (14 and 16) had a fantastic week with Pierre in level 3 adults class. He was very enthusiastic and friendly, with perfect English and great teaching skills. The picnic he brought on the last day was highly appreciated by the group. I highly recommend Oxygene and Pierre for lessons in La Plagne

We booked private lessons for our two boys, ages 4 and 7, with Christelle. I was so nervous, particularly about leaving my youngest who can be a handful, but she was so reassuring and immediately had a great rapport with the children. I felt that the children were really safe in her hands. They progressed so much and they absolutely loved her! She also sent me lots of photos and videos of them in their lessons. We will definitely book again with Oxygène if we come back. We will request Christelle!

Spas & Wellness
Les Grands Bains du Monêtier is a 4,500 m2 thermal leisure center that offers a relaxing experience with stunning views of the snow-capped mountains. The naturally warm waters are ideal for unwinding after a day of mountain activities. There are several pools, hot tubs, saunas, and hammams.
Very nice place to relax. Hot water in winter is something unusual especially when you see others ski around. We came with kids and they also enjoyed it. All went perfectly. As a negative, since we came in winter, the hairdryer was not working properly blowing cold air. We usually revisit this place every year...
Daniel G — Google review
This is probably a very nice thermal bath, and one of the few in France with an informal, family feel. Kids only allowed in the mornings. But I have to give it minimum score because the website says that there is availability, all hourly slots, but then when you actually try to add a reservation to the shopping card it fails. When we went there it was closed for non-reserved guests. So the evening before I expected to be able to come at any time. It said 10:00, 11:00, 12:00 etc (earlier in the week I only saw a few slots later that day). In the morning at 8:30 I expected to be able to come at 10. When I actually went to book at 9:00 I couldn't. When I showed up at 10 there was a big sign saying that nobody is allowed in without a reservation. So no bathing. They need to get their reservation system sorted to avoid people planning their day and then getting bumped.
Michael B — Google review
No admission with anything but speedos, and this policy not visible on the website while making the booking and paying for it. Only possible to buy the swimwear on location and refund of reservation not possible. At least the overpacked human soup outside looks nasty enough!
Tio — Google review
We came to this place for the bains, we have been refused access as our swimsuits were beach shorts. I bought it as a swimsuit and I have never been neglected access for this reason. I asked for an explanation, they told me it is the policy. (I tried to understand the policy from the Internet, I think it does Not make any sense).

ATTENTION to all foreign tourists (especially those who are not from the EU)! They stole money without actually providing the service! We came to this spa specifically from another city. We paid for entry, but they did not let us inside the spa. The staff did not like my husband's swimming shorts. We got dressed and left after 10 minutes. Then we demanded a refund at the reception for the service that was not provided. 4 different managers spoke to us in turn and under various pretexts simply ran away from resolving the issue of returning the money, while deliberately switching to French to lead the dialogue to a dead end. There was no information on the official website about clothing restrictions. It is surprising that in 2025 such non-customer-oriented places exist. Disgusting, worse than ever. The day was ruined. We do not recommend it to anyone!
Екатерина Д — Google review
Basic facilities, below average service and rather old building. There is a huge scam allowing only lycra swimsuits and nothing else! No lycra swimsuit, you will have to pay another 20 euros to buy one and get in.... Ridiculous policy as an excuse to make extra money.

Lovely baths! Not particularly luxurious, but very relaxing and pretty good value (€23 for 2 hours or €32 for 3 hours)

Great place to relax and enjoy the mountain view, you have a choice of several swimming pools + steam, sauna, super hot, medium and super cold bathtubs, the best is the jacuzzi with open view to the snowy mountains (if you come during winter). The changing rooms & showers are pretty basic.

Located near the lake of the same name, Animal Park Serre-Ponçon offers an engaging experience for families. Visitors can observe a variety of animals including marmots, foxes, Alpine goats, wolf dogs, and raptors presented by passionate caretakers. The park features feeding sessions with explanations and an impressive birds of prey show set against the stunning backdrop of Lac Serre Poncon. While some find the entrance fee a bit expensive, many agree that the bird show alone makes it worthwhile.
Great place to visit for the family. Bit expensive especially the restaurant but the feeding sessions with explanations were interesting and you get to see the animals from close by. The birds of prey show is just awesome, as you see the birds using the warm air currents from the lake and then shoot inches over your head. The american eagle is very impressive as are the various sizes of owls.

Great small Zoo worth of every single penny. Amazing aero show with 🦉 and 🦅. It’s just a unique experience to be able to see the animals so close in a open space. We totally enjoyed the atmosphere and the show. Only bad thing is that the show is only in French. But the eagle made it worth it. Also all other animals are well fed.

Brilliant place to visit not just for kids. Helpful staff who do speak a bit of English which helps. The bird show is just fantastic with the perfect backdrop of Lac Serre Ponçon.
Leon D — Google review
I absolutely do not recommend this place. This "parc animalier" is NOT a wildlife park by any means, which would suggest that animals roam freely in spacious enclosures. Instead, it resembles a zoo from the 1980s. The animals are confined in alarmingly small cages and pens, making us feel very uncomfortable and uneasy. The poor red fox looked particularly sad, constantly pacing around in his pen. The wolf was also a sad sight. We saw birds of prey locked in tiny cages, their cries sounding like pleas for help. I was shocked by the conditions. We stayed for about 15 minutes before we couldn't take it anymore and left. I wish I had never visited this place.

Magic Ski and Snowboard School Val Thorens is highly praised for its exceptional ski instruction. The small group and person-centered approach of the instructors have led to significant improvements for many participants. The professionalism, experience, and kindness of the instructors, such as Michel and Luca, have left a lasting impression on the learners. Private lessons catered to various age groups have resulted in great progress and confidence building.
Michele and Christine are the most friendly, patient, and professional instructors I have ever met. Brought me and my family from absolute beginners to Level 2 in just 6 days. Truly gems, could not recommend Oxygen Ski enough!

We enrolled our 6-year-old child in the Oxygen ski school for a week and were very pleased! Our main goal was for her to improve her skiing, and the progress was simply amazing. Compared to other schools we've tried, the results here were significantly better—she became much more confident and skilled on the slopes. Huge thanks to the instructors! A minor downside was the lunch arrangement. Meals were served in a different hotel, and for young kids, carrying their gear and getting there wasn’t the easiest. They were likely assisted, but it still felt a bit inconvenient. Also, the food selection could be a bit more varied. Despite this, if we visit again, we’ll most likely choose Oxygen again—the quality of instruction here is truly outstanding!

Extremely Disappointing Experience – Would Not Recommend This was our first season trying snowboarding, and we were really looking forward to a new and exciting experience. Unfortunately, our time with Oxygene ski and snowboarding school nearly ruined what should have been a special holiday. Despite spending a significant amount of money on lessons, the service we received was appalling. The instructor assigned to us, Daniel, was not only rude and condescending but also completely unprofessional. He was very impatient. Constantly mumble and utter something rude under his breath when me or my daughter fall over, when we didn't hear or understood his instructions. Understandably, we got nervous as it is our first time on the slopes. What’s most upsetting is that he used inappropriate and unacceptable language towards my 12-year-old daughter when I wasn’t present. This is beyond disappointing — it’s infuriating. We call it a quit after the second lessons. I had hoped this company would provide supportive, family-friendly instruction, especially for beginners, but that could not be further from our experience. I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel strongly that others should be warned. There are many ski and snowboard schools out there — I strongly recommend looking elsewhere. We went with Prosneige Ski School to continue with our lessons. They are far more better than Oxygene. Their customer service is top notch and the instructor that assigned to us was superb.

Great ski school with fantastic instructors. Small groups guaranteed and of the numbers get slightly high, they add another instructor which is win win! Enzo, FX and Edison were all individually brilliant! They move you up midweek if you improve and the spontaneous hot chocolates were an unexpected bonus! Will be back next year, thanks Oxygene!

We used the Oxygene Ski School in Val Thorens for kids and adults group classes. The classes were brilliant and we improved over the week. The instructors were patient and Francesco was amazing on the first day helping us all settle in. Our kids loved the classes and are keen to return next year. The kids still talk about their sessions and their instructors Enzo and Oscar.

I just got back from a ski trip, and wow, what a turnaround! I've always thought skiing wasn't for me after a pretty rough experience a few years back. But when my friends planned this January getaway, I was hesitant but decided to give it another shot. As soon as I arrived at the hotel, the receptionist mentioned this company called Oxygène . She raved about how they're a small business that genuinely cares for their clients, and I figured, why not trust her? So, I booked a class with Enzo, my instructor for the entire week. On the first day, we tackled a blue slope, and I was amazed at how much my confidence grew. By the end of that first class, I was actually conquering my fears! The second day was even better; I was already navigating blue slopes and starting to feel like a skier. Enzo was incredible—his support and encouragement made skiing feel effortless. Fast forward to the last day, and I found myself zooming down blue and red slopes with my friend, feeling like a pro! It's all thanks to Enzo’s tips and tricks that helped me build my confidence. I can't recommend him enough! If you're on the fence about skiing, give it a try, especially with someone like Enzo guiding you. You might just surprise yourself!

Booked a 4hr off piste guided lesson, our instructor was Daniele, and I can't rate this experience highly enough, everything was covered from general improvement of our techniques, off piste runs and equipment, plus some freestyle tips and lessons. So much time was taken to explain everything, and how it all effects the way you move the board. A lot of emphasis was put on the fact that this is a bidirectional sport and the improvements that can be made by being bidirectional, which really opened the idea up for more us. 11/10 top class day!

Amazing experience. Super approachable, professional, flexible and professional instructor. Really accommodating office staff. Both myself and my 12 year old son took private lessons. He was encouraged and pushed to grow in confidence, being able to go up and down the nursery slops and use the ‘magic carpets’ fully independently by then of the second lesson. Thank you Luca. Can’t wait to keep on learning next year!

-Great experience for Ski bootfitting thanks to Cedric craftmanship and expertise. Got a pair of Fisher RC4 Pro MV130 which have been a pleasure to ski with the whole 2 weeks. THANK YOU. The same feedback from my sister-in-law with a pair fitted by Jeremy. -Great experience with the purchase (for our whole family) of several ski jackets, underlayers, gloves, helmets, goggles, ect. Thank you for Guillaume and Sandrine super sweet character and immense kindness. Top lads ! -Super poor experience with the purchase of 2 pairs of premium skis (Buttner Heida and Nordica Enforcer 96). When one buys 2 pairs for more than 3K Euros, he expects no drama. The Buttner were having faulty plates and the Enforcer were mounted with the bindings going sideways by more than 4mm. ProsNeige changed both after realizing these were having some obvious issues and I am very grateful for the same. Overall, I recommend PRONEIGE for anyone looking for a proper bootfitting and great ski apparel. Both teams are great professionals. For ski purchase, I was not convinced for obvious reasons unless I was very unlucky to have both pairs mounted by the same amateur (...)

Was disappointed with the ski club for my 3 y/o son. I can't complain for the quality of ski lessons. It was more or less ok. But we signed him in for the whole week - full 6 days. They skied 2 hours in the morning and 2 in the afternoon. Rest of the time they mostly spent in this tiny room with one set of lego and couple of other toys. Toilet - adult size only. It's fine for couple of hours ski lesson, but not for the whole week. At the end of the ski course, everyone was suppose to get a medal. I was passing ESF at the time of the medal ceremony - the photographer, medals and ski book for each child. When I came to pick up my son, I expected the same. Most of the people were gone, we had to ask for the medal (which is a big deal for my LO) and the ski book. Disappointing experience. Will choose club Piou Piou next time again.

Awesome ski resort. With the ski pass we had free access to the swimming pool, ice-skating! We are very lucky because this year we have great snow (more than 2m!), so we can enjoy the great snow, and the great weather also! The ski station is great, with little shops and small supermarkets. Great to stay in family for a week or so. Richard

Beautiful ski resort, good for children and families. Lots of well maintained ski slopes. The resort has games on the snow, husky rides, several restaurants on the slope. The slopes are not very demanding, few black slopes.

My experience with ESF was horrible. I took an adult beginners class and since I'd never been on skis before, I needed the very basics, like how to balance, stand, etc. Instead of starting on a flat surface to practice, they put us on a small slope and just said, "okay, ski down". I fell every time and the instructor was clearly annoyed with me, even made fun of me in front of the whole class. Before class started, the meeting area was chaos - there were more than 50 or so people standing around, trying to figure out which instructor they were supposed to go with. I told them I needed an English-speaking instructor and they said "follow so-n-so", but they don't have their names on their jackets so it was impossible to tell the instructors apart. I ended up with someone who doesn't speak any English, which is okay because I speak some French. But from what I could tell, I was just being insulted the whole time; never given any real instruction nor any encouragement. The experience has made me very wary to ever ski again but I will try again with another ski school. Maybe the experience is different for those who speak French fluently.

Super resort, a lot of things for kids over 3 years old. Half of slopes are for beginners, ideal again with kids but you find galore reds and blacks.

Col du Galibier is a famous paved alpine road and a stage of the Tour de France, reaching an impressive 8,678 feet in elevation and featuring a tunnel. Situated near the UNESCO-listed fortifications of Vauban, it is surrounded by legendary mountain passes like Izoard and Lautaret. The area offers a serene green setting, making it an unforgettable destination for visitors.
my second time here. Fantastic view from the bike, climb this col via Col du Lautaret.

The most amazing mountain views from the top and some small animals to see on the way down.

If you've ridden from St Michel de Maurienne you know. What can I say about this iconic cycle climb it's rock hard but boy the views are well worth the pain.
Chris T — Google review
Breathtaking landscape and view! We drove up the Col du Galibier, which was kinda scary at some point bc the street is incredibly narrow. As we drove up the mountain you would see many bikers struggling to get up this mountain, they of course made it! We stopped the care midway and hiked the remainder of the mountain. As we got on top we probably took about 30 min to take in this view. It was an incredible journey and totally worth it!!
Dalem — Google review
Ride up here with your bicycle! Stunning views on the top as a reward. Additionally, a spectacular descent on mostly very good roads.
Michel S — Google review
As a cyclist this is one of the highlights of my trip to France. It's a bloody hard climb, but so rewarding at the top for the views. I rode it in October, at the top it said 1c of my Wahoo so it made the descent quite cold.
Jonny B — Google review
Top of a Tour De France climb. Well worth the effort to get there. Views are spectacular and the descent is awesome. Give it a go.

Southern part of the French Alps (Graic Alps). Dream Pass for a biking challenge. 43 kilometers, over 2,000 meters of altitude difference and 2,642 at the highest point. Snow stays there all year round, the air is crisp that you want to climb up and you need only good weather to admire the three thousand meters around (Grand Galibier, Pic des Trois Eveches, Arves massif). The mountain pass is the highest point of the Tour de France .

Rooms are small but cozy. The views are spectacular, however service is really poor. You have to bring, replace and return sheets yourself, there is no soap, dishwashing liquid, dishwasher tablets, toilet paper, shower gel, cotton swabs, shampoo, nothing at all, you have to buy everything. The knives and cups are old and very poor quality. The shower hose also was partly broken.
Matas G — Google review
Great chalet for wintersports, close to the piste and a short walk or bus ride to the centre of Valloire. The appartment was roomy and clean. Furniture was on the old side but still very usable.

Enjoyed our time in this apartment complex. The check in was somewhat organised in the French way. We had to wait far to long. After that everything was good. Nice warm swimming pool. Ski piste was on the backside of the appartment. From there a few minutes to the telecabin. Perfect spot.

Other Outdoor Activities
The French Ski School (ESF) is open to children aged 3 to 12 and offers two snow gardens in the village and at the satellite center la Daille. They follow the French national ski program, ensuring consistent levels and progression for kids who have skied with ESF in other resorts. Children above 13 can join adult groups. The school provides morning lessons in English, with small group sizes and friendly instructors like Thalassa who go the extra mile to help students improve.
I had two private lessons with Antoine, and I couldn’t have asked for a better instructor! He is incredibly patient, knowledgeable, and always encouraging. He provided a lot of useful tips and techniques, making the learning process both effective and enjoyable. Even as a beginner, I felt comfortable and confident on the slopes, and I saw noticeable improvement after just two sessions. On top of that, the lessons were a lot of fun! I highly recommend Antoine and the ski school to anyone looking to improve their skills.
Miglė S — Google review
Fantastic Experience with ESF – Highly Recommend Booking Early! We had an amazing experience with ESF, and our biggest tip is to book early! We originally wanted group lessons for our 5-year-old daughter, but they were completely booked up. Luckily, we managed to get one-to-one lessons, which weren’t much more expensive and turned out to be a fantastic decision. Clem’ – A Brilliant Instructor! Our daughter had never skied before, and to be honest, she can’t even roller-skate, so we were a little unsure how she’d get on. She was also quite nervous about meeting her instructor, but within 30 seconds of meeting Clem’, she was completely at ease. Clem’ is an absolute star—friendly, patient, and fantastic with kids. We booked six days of one-hour private lessons, and the progress was unbelievable. Clem’ gave us brilliant advice, not just for our daughter but for us as parents—things like letting her figure things out independently rather than jumping in to help too soon. By day three, she was flying down the kids' slope (like a little bullet!), and by day four, she was confidently using the button lift and skiing down all by herself. Clem’ also gave us tips for next year, recommending a group session, as kids often improve faster when learning alongside others. A Few Tips for First-Timers Book early – Group sessions fill up fast, and one-to-one lessons can also get booked up quickly. Confirm the meeting point – If you’re new to the area, it can be a bit confusing. To get to the lesson area, you need to take the Lobster Pot lift up to the main ski area. The meeting point is by the restaurant near the Signal lift, but after the first day, we met directly at the kids’ ski area, which was much easier. Do not go to the office as that's in the village below. Don’t hover too much – Clem’ encouraged us to drop our daughter off, go ski for an hour, then come back. It worked brilliantly, as she got to learn independently while we enjoyed our time on the slopes. Stick around for the ESF Show – On Thursday evening, ESF put on a fantastic ski show with fireworks, featuring 300+ instructors doing incredible performances. The best way to watch? Grab a table at a restaurant, have some drinks, and enjoy the show from there rather than heading up the mountain. Just wrap up warm—it gets freezing up there! Final Thoughts Honestly, we couldn’t rate ESF highly enough. From the way instructors help out on the lifts to their expertise in teaching skiers of all levels, the entire experience was top-class. Even if you're an intermediate skier, I’d still recommend booking a couple of private lessons—I saw one-to-one lessons happening, and the level of improvement was seriously impressive. And finally—a massive shoutout to Clem’ for making our daughter’s first skiing experience fun, confidence-boosting, and genuinely unforgettable. She’s an absolute credit to ESF, and we’ll 100% be booking lessons again next year. If you're planning a ski holiday, get on their website and book early—you won’t regret it!

Jerome is the best ski teacher I have ever met. He was so motivating and brought my self confidence back. With his leadership we were a great team and it is great to know he will never leave you behind. And one of the most important thing is his English fluency especially if you are a beginnner. Jerome showed an empathy that how you feel while learning. He was my chance.

Me and my brother had 3 hours of private lessons with Chris B. and it was amazing. In just a few minutes we were able to improve our technique with all his tips and calm explanations. Thank you very much for everything Chris, for sure we will come back and ask for you in our next lessons!

My experience with ESF at Alpe D’Huez was brilliant. I booked on to Adult Beginner Ski School for a week in March. 6 mornings on the snow, learning basic snow ski skills, using lifts and having fun. The Instructor, Thalassa, was great, supportive and encouraging. I would highly recommend booking with ESF, and if you can ask for Thalassa!

I had 6 days of ski school with a French instructor named William. He was very professional, incredible at explaining the theory, and he was super kind. He surely created a great atmosphere in the ski school class. I give William and ESF my warmest recommendations.

Insanely good lessons with Antoine ( hope I spelt correctly). Very simple explanations of fundamentals of ski technique and muscles used which really connected the dots for me. I have only done 3 seasons and somehow he’s got me confident with reds and I have now safely and in controlled completed 3 blacks runs using the techniques he taught me which was a bonus as never expected that! I have never felt so chilled skiing Thankyou!!!

Such a good ski school. I have booked lessons for my two daughters and for myself. Little girls absolutely loved it and completed their weeks course with theirs fabulous ski instructor ladies. My instructor was Ettiene and he was so patient and engaging. I haven't completed mine, missed three days as I was unfortunately ill on holiday and didn't have any energy to get up that early every day,but will be definitely recommending this to everyone.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fantastic family fun – even without the snow! We visited Les Sept Laux (Les Adrets) in the summer and had the best day! Even without the skiing, the resort has so much to offer – and those mountain views are absolutely breathtaking. There were loads of activities for the whole family. We raced down the brilliant Wiz Luge, the kids had a blast playing crazy golf, riding the pedal go-karts, and bouncing around on the trampoline. We enjoyed delicious drinks and refreshing sorbets at Chez Victor, and to top it all off, the kids got to go wild at a super fun foam party – total highlight for them! Everything was really reasonably priced, the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, and there was such a good variety of things to do. Highly recommend Les Sept Laux as a summer destination – perfect mix of fun, scenery, and value. We’ll definitely be back!

I've been skiing there in february, to me it is the best ski resort in France. the landscape is amazing, the slopes are steep and well prepared. you can admire the vue on the chairlift because they are quite slow, i managed to eat entirely my whole big american sandwich in the eterlou, it was great. The ski rescuers are so nice and handsome, I can’t stop thinking about Thibault and his beautiful curly hair and when I do i wet my pants.

Nice MTB downhill park during summer with well equipped trails. Complete stupidity is the lift access. Alternately by the day the short or the long lift is open. The longer lift access the same tracks as the smaller one but if you come on the wrong day (which you do not know as tourist) you pay the same daily price for 50% of the area. When you are thrilled by the tracks like I was, staying another successive day does not benefit at all. And at the end of the day there is no machine or desk open to return the key card with 3,- deposit, feels like theft to me.

Located in the elegant Place des Elephants, the Fontaine des Éléphants is a must-see monument in Chambery. Built in 1838 to honor General Benoit de Boigne, a local hero, this fountain features four elephants spraying water through their trunks. The unique sculpture combines a fountain, a column, and a statue representing the elephants joined at their hindquarters. This distinctive feature has earned it the nickname "Les quatre sans cul."
Beautiful fountain with a nice area around it to sit and chill out. There are some nice shops around here too! If you come to Chambéry we really recommend the walking tour around the city! There are little bronze elephants on the pavement that you can follow around and get to see all of the sights. It's a beautiful 1-2 hour stroll with lots to see and freedom to stop or skip during the "tour".

3.5🌟 we reckon. On the way back from Annecy to Grenoble, we decided to stop in Chambery. It was still early. We were pleasantly surprised that the town has lots to offer too. We parked near the main square. As usual, there are lots of restaurants, cafes, ice-cream parlours at the square. Decided to stroll further after our evening drinks. We arrived at the fountain. Most fountains in larger towns we have seen are always grand and somewhat of a center piece. This one is no different. The elephants have their backs again the fountain, which is of course a defensive posture. As if to tell everyone, they are protecting the fountain. Walking further, we were greeted by several other monuments within the town. A worthwhile stopover with many sights to see.

La Fontaine des Éléphants in Chambéry is a true gem. The beauty of the sculpted elephants is simply breathtaking and the attention to detail is amazing. The fountain is surrounded by lush greenery, making it a peaceful and serene place to relax. The atmosphere is peaceful and calming, and it's a great place to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city. I highly recommend visiting La Fontaine des Éléphants for anyone looking for a peaceful and beautiful oasis in Chambéry. Whether you're a local or a tourist, this stunning fountain is not to be missed.
Kermit P — Google review
The elephant heads with the steep mountain slopes in the background reminded me of Hannibal's army, climbing the Alps to conquest the ancient Rome. However, these elephants look like Indian elephants which is intriguing, as the ones used by Hannibal in the war against Romans were most probably African elephants (with much larger ears). Then I learned that the monument is actually dedicated to a French mercenary born in Chambery, who made his fortune in India (General Count de Boigne). Interesting monument, anyway! It's the symbol of the city and not to be missed if you're around.

A big castle... and a big disappointment I decided to visit this castle after reading countless glowing reviews online. A majestic fortress, they said... a must-see, they insisted. Well, they clearly saw something I didn’t. At first glance, it looked promising — the outer walls, the imposing gate, and the bastions are undeniably impressive. So far, so good. I opted for the guided tour, which also promised the “complete” experience. That’s when things started going downhill. A large portion of the original structures has been destroyed over time. In their place, new buildings have been erected — and they don't fit in at all with the old buildings. These new buildings now serve as administrative offices. Translation: over 75% of the complex is closed to the public. So much for the “complete” tour. The castle was entirely renovated in the 20th century — and yes, it shows. For example, the interior of the "Treasury Tower" (the only tower we were actually allowed to visit) looks like a set from a cheap movie . What did the guided tour include? The fortified gate (which, fun fact, you can visit for free anyway) The chapel, half-empty The treasury tower, almost empty A cellar, entirely empty The guide did his best and shared plenty of historical facts. But unless you're already passionate about the Duchy of Savoy, the whole lecture might feel more like a podcast you didn’t mean to start. In conclusion, two things worth noting: Many of the pictures associated with this tourist site have little or nothing to do with the actual castle. Likely uploaded by people hoping to score a few social media points. Several reviews mention a “panoramic view of the city.” I’ll post a picture and let you judge whether that view was worth the hype.
Catalin H — Google review
Outside it is a nice Castle, however you can’t go in to see the whole place without a guide tour. Guide tours are mostly on weekends and just in French. You have to book the guide tour in the tourist center of the city. By the way, you can visit the museum of the castle for free.
Alejandro C — Google review
Savoy is a former state that included Genève, Turin and Nice a few centuries ago. It's hard to believe nowadays that these famous cities from Switzerland, Italy and France were part of the same country, which doesn't exist anymore. Even more strange: the capital of this state was, for about 250 years, the little town of Chambery. This is what the museum is all about: the history of the Savoyard State. We took the free tour and enjoyed it a lot. The description of the artifacts is in both French and English, so there's not really need for the guided tour (unless you don't speak anyone of these languages). In addition to the historical Savoyard exhibits, the visitors have the opportunity to take some instagramic pictures from the top level terrace: the old town rooftops look great at sunset with the Alps in the background.

Bonnat Chocolatier

Chocolate factory
Shopping
This family-run maker of premier chocolates offers an elegant retail store.
Bonnat chocolatier has been an institution in Voiron for decades. Beautiful shop with great variety of high quality chocolate. I am a dark chocolate lover and their 100% cacao bar is the best I have ever tasted. Not cheap : 9E for 100G but it is totally worth it. You can also get some free tasting.

This chocolatier gets only 4 stars cause it’s really pricey. I spent lots of euros there and felt like I was buying a cat in the sack cause I could not taste the flavors. The shop is exquisitely arranged and Flavia spoke English and explained what the different types of chocolate are. I ordered a sphinx dessert and it was absolutely delicious. The pastry rates equally amongst other fine patisseries I’ve eaten at.

Lovely store, but pricey. Good chocolates and lots of other goodies. Consummate salespeople, you could walk out with stuff you never intended to buy! Our son was always treated well with lots of little free candy.

The staff were so friendly and we managed to understand each other despite the language difference. I can wait to try the chocolates and the croissant was amazing!

Just received a package in Greece, with the following chocolates, as seen on the photo. I have just tried the yellow one and I can not describe how I felt. First of all, you do not bite it, you just let it melt in your mouth. After I had a couple of pieces by jaw went numb and the hair in my body stood up. It has been now 10 mins later and the feeling is still there. This is the reason I HAD to write this review. Everyone should taste this and experience true chocolate bliss. I can not describe the feeling and the sensation. After you try Bonnat chocolates, all other chocolates feel like a very cheap imitation.

Simply the greatest chocolatier in the world! The staff is always friendly and helpful. Plus, they infuse Chartreuse into some of the desserts. Bonnat is a must-have.

Quite simply the best chocolate you can buy anywhere. One of a few chocolate makers that make their chocolate from cocoa beans directly and not from couverture. 20 or so single origin chocolates. The factory shopfront near Grenoble is a charming tea room and pastry shop. Their cakes are fantastic: Sphynx and Succès the top specialties.
